Speaker 1 (00:08):
The lt at Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ Newedleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margatta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four two.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
One seventy nine oh one.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
And now the creator and host of the Fastest Hour
and Radio, Todd Bailing.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Nice to have you on the program. We are honored
that you're with us. Actually, and as we usually are,
we're spread out just a little bit. Todd Bailing in Greendale, Wisconsin.
Sunny warm, Greendale, Wisconsin, joined by my three partners, starting
with Brian Schmid up in Utsburg, USA.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Hey, mand morning, Yes, we go drafting today.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
If you like wrecked cars and not.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Seeing cars cross the finish line under green you might
see that.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Yeah. Maybe that other female voice you may have just
noticed is our own PJ Noodleman on the other side
of the state over there in trim below.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
Hey.
Speaker 6 (01:18):
Hey, yes, about to get drafty with the Cup series.
But I'm also excited because local racing is really starting
to come alive and we'll have those results later in
the show.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Isn't that a fact. Speaking of local results, it's the
season opener at the Slinger super Speedway, and our own
Dan Margetta will be uh, I guess what are you
doing today? Are you running a camera or.
Speaker 7 (01:41):
What I'm doing? All kinds of stuff. You can hear
the race cars on the racetrack in the background as
practice and started. I like the drafting that goes on
in Talladay a lot more than a drafting that went
on in Green Bay this week, So hopefully have a
decent race there.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Oh, come on, we like offense. We have too many
damn defensive pick and anyway, that's another story completely. It's
great of you to join us here as we're getting ready,
as Brian mentioned, to go to Talladega. It's on Fox today,
Fox six Milwaukee forty seven in Madison. Green flag is
(02:14):
at two twenty this afternoon.
Speaker 8 (02:17):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
It's supposed to be a pretty good race whether anyway.
Eighties is the is the forecast high? However, there is
that looming twenty percent chance of precipitation that we'll have
to deal with. Stages are at lap sixty and one twenty.
It is a one hundred eighty eight lap event, five
(02:40):
hundred miles on that two point six six mile super
duper speedway. And wait a minute, as we used to say,
is this a typo? Zane Smith is on the pole
one hundred and eighty two point one seven four which
sounds slow, but remember it was single car laps fifty
(03:04):
two point five sixty five seconds to get around that place,
and Zane Smith for the first time, will be starting
from the pole position. Now he has been progressing. Let's
face it, he has been progressing. Is has he progressed
enough to actually win at Talladega? Well, as we have
learned from watching Talladega races over the years, nobody can
(03:29):
be counted out for this one. So when we make
our picks later for which I'm going to take Kyle
Busch again, just give you a sneaking, you know, because
he did qualify second, Not that that makes a damn difference.
You got to be there, You got to survive the
res you know, That's what it's all about at Talladega.
And we'll hope that he's around at that time. They
(03:52):
did race here already this weekend. The ARCA race was
early yesterday. The outlaw lawless Allen was your winner, Brian.
You saw that at least the ending on that thing. Huh. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
They had a one lap race for the wind Arca
does they don't do the green white checker thing, and
I think they took the green and they went into
turn one and a bunch of cars behind them started
spinning and wrecking, and lawless Allen was just a wee
bit ahead of bad Moffat and picked up the win
that way, I guess, I said, I this stuff, I
(04:28):
don't know.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
I mean, it just it's hard to it's hard to
think that you.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Got to use, you know, cameras and photo tags, their
photo stamps and all this stuff trying to figure who
wins a race.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
And it happened twice yesterday because in the Exfinity race
Connor Zillach. By the way, I am a believer in
Connor's village. I was before here he goes to Talladega.
Dan was that the first time he raced to Talladega?
Speaker 7 (04:56):
I think so. And to be in content for the
win like that in the last laugh, he has impressed
me as well. I heard he's a pretty good road racer.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
I knew that.
Speaker 7 (05:05):
I didn't know how he do on the ovals, but
after watching him in that Excity series, now for a
couple of weeks. I think this kid is the real deal.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
And yes, I would agree with that. He did get
touched and crashed on the last lap and they had
one of those finishes. Like Brian was describing time stamps
and pictures and photos and opinions, that's what we don't
want when we're talking about who wins a race. But
under NASCAR's opinion, Austin Hill was the winner. He was
(05:34):
declared as three cars sat at the start finish line
waiting for NASCAR to make up their mind. Boy, that's
really You wonder why there's negative publicity towards racing these days,
And that's got something to do with it, I'll guarantee it.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
Well, and that just fueled the tinfoil hat wearing folks
that think that Childress is in NASCAR's backpop.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, well you know he's he is one of the
old timers. It doesn't really I don't think that it
played into the decision at all. No. I believe that
it's hard for me to say because I didn't have
all the resources that NASCAR had to make their decision.
But old Jeb Burton to me, looked like he wanted
(06:23):
He believes he wanted, and yet it doesn't matter what
the opinions are. NASCAR's opinion is the only one that matters,
and Austin Hill wanted yesterday. Kletus McFarlane ran in that
arc race yesterday. He's quite a personality. He's that character
(06:44):
whose real name is Garrett Mitchell, not to be confused
with the brewers oft and now injured center fielder. However,
he did a pretty good He ended up tenth yesterday.
I didn't watch the whole race. I watched pieces of it,
and I don't know how he ended, especially since apparently
he had some sort of major issue with the car.
(07:06):
All he did was hang on right.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
He had a valvespring that was like bent, so he
was kind of getting or done with not as many
cylinders as everybody else had gone.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Really, when you're talking Talladega and you get in in
the draft, apparently you only need seven cylinders to finish
in the top ten, at least in the ARCA series.
And that's what happened yesterday. This is always an exciting race.
We can agree on that. For you know, we we've
(07:38):
talked about this in the past, that the fringe fans
will go out of their way to watch because and
they're going to wreck some stuff at Talladega today. Yeah,
well they usually do. And there's that there's that fringe
fan that likes to watch reck them time, smash them
up time, And that's pretty much what we're going to
get here. And that comes after probably many laps of
(08:02):
follow the leader time, although sometimes follow the leader can
be two wide and that's more exciting, and then they
can possibly be three wide, and you talk about excitement,
that's that's damn right breathtaking. And then occasionally we have
four wide, and then it's pretty much hang onto your bootstraps,
we're going around. Oh, here comes the wall. And that's
(08:24):
how the racing goes at Talladega.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
What do you think the percentages that we get a
green flight finished today? It seems like stricter play race
or plate tracks runn you want to call them now,
Scooper speedways. They always tiny to end under yellow. It
seems like it's been a trend.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Yeah, less than twenty percent.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
I say, oh, it's gonna go even less than that declared.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
It's declared, and and how many green white checkers will
there be? You know, they can be real good they
you know, we got to be around at a hundred
lap one hundred eighty eight. Yeah, but the problem is
that on lap hundred eighty eight, everybody's brain just goes
right out the window. It's mash touch and hope that
you don't crash. And and that apparently is a good recipe.
(09:09):
Because it's not on FS one today, this has national
implications and everybody loves to watch it, and it's on
the big network on Fox, so that's what we get
to see.
Speaker 7 (09:20):
So do you think we'll see them just like they
did that Daytona run, you know, three wide around half
throttle for most of the race and then all hell
breaks on the end. Or you think we'll maybe see
some of the more different can you do that at
they happen to tell it like it did it Daytona?
Or is this a different because its a bigger track?
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Boy, that's a good I mean, you can, But then
I think there's a better likelihood you're going to see
the single file thing. You know, either way they're going
to want to see it well because that's that's the
strategy to win these races and that's what they have
to do.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
I think you're going to see more aggressiveness because there
are way younger guys now in the Cup Series that
don't have any fear.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
They haven't crashed hard yet and maybe they need to
do that.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Maybe it could happen today.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
It's very much good. We're very happy that you're joining
us today for our Talladega rates. We had some deaths
in the family of racing, which we'll talk about after
we come back from our first break and stand by.
We'll be back.

Speaker 14 (12:58):
This is the Herd Wow Wow Wow.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
With Colin Cowherd.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
I think the way they treated him is bushley.
Speaker 15 (13:05):
You either treat people right in life or you don't,
even if they're leaving the conflict. Aaron Glenn right now
is not a CEO. He doesn't know what he's doing
because that's not how you treat me. That's just not
how you do it.
Speaker 7 (13:18):
And Aaron, you're inery, You're out, bro.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
This is the Herd.
Speaker 14 (13:21):
The Herd with Colin Cowbert week days at eleven on
Fox Sports nine.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Yeah, it's never good when you have deaths to report,
and we have a couple of them. Jeff Schwister passed
away this week at the age of sixty two. He
is Bill's son, Mike Schwister's brother. I didn't realize because
it must have been well, I was before my time
at Slinger Speedway, which was, you know, some forty years
(13:51):
ago that he raised that Slinger, which I didn't know about.
But so he was the first name that came up,
and I'm wow, that's crazy. Then we hear doctor Jerry Petty.
He was no relation to the Petty family, the royalty,
the NASCAR royalty family, but he was the go to
(14:11):
doctor for NASCAR for fifty years. Think about that. I mean,
it's crazy. So those two notable. But the one that
caught me yesterday, Freddie Nielsen passed away at the age
of ninety. If you don't know the name He was
(14:33):
a very prolific short track car owner that had some
absolutely spectacular drivers and success. Dave Watson drove for him
in the seventies, which I didn't realize till I talked
to Dave earlier this morning. But he won a bunch
of races together. And then, you know, when I started
(14:56):
in the sport, it was that thirty six and it
was it was very fun to watch Joe Sheer driving
for Freddy Nielsen. My god, what a team they made.
And then, for one reason or another that I to
this day don't really know that that relationship ended and
(15:17):
he hired Matt kents At, a young up and coming
driver who had been driving his own equipment and then
driving for Mike Butts for several races. Now he drove
for Mike Butts pretty exclusively, I think, but Dan did
he race the Butts car at Slinger. I know he
did at Madison and Cocanna.
Speaker 7 (15:36):
Yeah, sometimes I think that was after the Nielsen deal.
I remember Matt when he when they first won the
Slayer Nationals in ninety four, that was in Nielsen's car,
and I just remember the victory lane on there, spraying
the champagne and being there and seene that that's a
memory for me, and then the other one for Freddy
Nielsen to do with Joe Sheer won the ASA race
at Milwaukee. I think it was nineteen ninety three. I
was helping out on the national Letwerk broadcast, being a
(15:58):
spot and the camera stand and everybody. Sheer wasn't the
guy that ran the full ASA series, so he was
kind of not like an outsider, but you know, everybody
knew that the REGULARSA guys like Mike Eddie and Bob Center,
hered of the TV people want something like that. It
was like, oh, who's this guy. I'm like, Oh, she's
a pretty big name. I remember having to like tell him, like, this.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Guy's no fluke.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
You know, he's gonna probably shot the winness thing. And
then they kind of went and stopped him on that race.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
That's pretty cool. And I don't really know when he,
you know, ended his time as as a car owner,
but it must have been in the early two thousands somewhere,
and I don't know who his last driver was, but
either way, a very prolific. It was always rumored that
(16:41):
he wore boots. A lot of guys wear boots all
the time, but It was always rumored that he had
a gun in his boot, and you know, that's what
I remember about him, even though rich Pickle told me
yesterday was more of a rumor than anything else. But whatever.
I heard another story that he kept a gun and
his air cleaner in his truck too. For those, you know,
(17:04):
off shootouts that we might have here and there, we
want to make sure you're prepared for it, I guess.
But a real character. He owned Nielsen Motorsports, which was
a snowmobile dealer in northern Illinois. Passed away yesterday at
ninety nice long life. If you'd like to participate in
this program, we wouldn't mind you calling us.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
At four to one, four, four to.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Two, one seventy nine oh one, many Dan. We're getting
calls people wanting to know if Slinger will be televised
today online.
Speaker 7 (17:39):
Yeah, there is no streaming platform today. They are changing
companies and they'll be one on the eighteenth. If we
can put something together, maybe they'll put some lot as
a race to start. We're kind of working on that,
but as far as a streaming platform right now, there's
no official one for today. Ye come here and watch
the race.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
That's right, and it's a perfect day for it. Carcount
is good, some pretty I see Lowell Bennett has a
late model. He's going to race today. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 7 (18:05):
Yeah, there's a couple of guys in him. Little Bennett's here.
Tennis Prunty has a late model. He showed up today.
Is the black forty two out there? I know where
that came from. I only had a super late but
now he's got a late model too. Now there's a
lot of lot of cars here. Kendall Cryer. I saw
out there, Noe Eisenhower from Thedel's. It's a really strong
car count and you shouted come out because it's a
great day to see it in pretty decent racing.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
That and it's the first of the All Start Challenge.
Speaker 7 (18:29):
Right Yeah, this is round one and that he drives
a lot of cars for it. So what a way
to kick off that season that slinger. I think it's
a pretty good deal.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Time trials get under way about noon and the racing
begins at two o'clock this afternoon, so plenty of time
to get out there and enjoy yourself. The big news
this week, and I almost hate the touch on it
right before break time, but Rodney Childers got fired. You
(18:58):
know it is there is no one in the sport
that really exactly knows what happened except Rodney himself and
the folks that Spire. That's being talked about over the
garage area. What the hell happened there? Because if anybody
was a hot property after getting let go from Harvick's
(19:19):
team and then ended up, but he was a guy
over there for the fore car for several years and
many races, and boy, I think about how Ed just
loved Rodney Childers. He knew what he was doing. They
moved him over to Spire. It was going to take
that the whole operation to the next level. And what
(19:41):
we're hearing is that there was some sort of bad
blood between himself and ownership. You for success on the racetrack,
you think you could get over this little pissing match,
but apparently they couldn't do it. So we're glad you're
tuned in and we'll talk talk a little more about
that when we come back.

The Doug Gottlieb Show. Okay, let's start with this right.
Speaker 14 (22:23):
Finally nailed at Gottlieb.
Speaker 16 (22:24):
I do feel like people wanted Rory to win. He
hadn't reached like Phil level of popularity.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
Then he misses upon at eighteen. Then the second time
around in.
Speaker 16 (22:36):
Eighteen he hits a birdie Like, is he now clutch?
I'm just struggling with what is clutch and what is
not cluching.

Welcome back to WELTM. We have an anonymous caller from Burlington,
so I'm going to assume it's Tony Romo.
Speaker 17 (23:00):
Hello caller, No it's not Tony Romo.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Oh all right, welcome to the program.
Speaker 17 (23:07):
A great friend of Freddy Nils and the number A
three modified not the number thirty six.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Late model Johnny Reimer.
Speaker 17 (23:16):
Johnny Rymer won more races than the other guy I
ever thought about winning.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
So he raced at Hale's Corners.
Speaker 17 (23:26):
Then huh Johnny Rymer.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Uh, Freddy Nielsen and Johnny Rymer.
Speaker 17 (23:33):
Yeah correct, Okay, raised them se circa except for Slinger
because he was champion down at Wilmont.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Okay, okay, interesting, yeah, see, Uh there's a lot I
didn't know about Freddy's uh past. But he started out
with the modified the.
Speaker 17 (23:52):
Rue Freddy Nielsen, yes.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Okay, and then he decided to go pavement racing at
one time, and I did I don't know this, so
I'm asking did Johnny Raymer race with him on pavement
or no? No dirt, dirt only all right? So who
was his first pavement driver? Was it Dave Watson?
Speaker 10 (24:18):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Okay? All right? Interesting? Well, thank you very much for
adding to that much. I feel like I should have
known more about Freddy because I knew him, but I
didn't ever ask about his history.
Speaker 17 (24:32):
So I think the best driver ever had with Johnny Yer.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
There you go, and he's had some good ones. Well,
thank you for the call, mister anonymous. Yeah okay, And
if anybody else wants to call the program of course
four one four four two one seventy nine oh one.
We were talking about Rodney Childers, who ed used to
(24:57):
call Childress back in the day. U. You know, you
wonder sometimes how something that is supposed to have been
with so much promise can suddenly go away and during
during the week I saw the words team dynamic written down.
It has to do with that and how they got
(25:19):
along and all that other sort of thing, and maybe
the team dynamic just wasn't as good as we would
have hoped.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
Well. I think a lot of it comes down to
just relationships with drivers and drivers being different. I mean,
you think of a great crew chiefes till till this
is a great crew chief. He's got a great track record.
You can prove it. You want a bunch of Kevin Aurec.
Look at remember when Wana Wilson went with Darrel Waltrip
back in the late eighties. That was supposed to be
a super team that just didn't pen out like everybody
thought it would. Dallyman didn't have as much success with,
(25:49):
you know, Terry Lebonni as he did with Richard Petty.
I think a lot of it is just driver crewchief
combination together and that relationship plays so much into it
that you just got to find the right mix, and
it probably wasn't the right mix there.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
Interesting apparently it's the buzz in the garage, everybody talking
and nobody really coming up with very big answers. Apparently
there's this rumor that he didn't get along with Spier execs.
And there's another rumor that he will be hired by
(26:22):
Kevin Harvick Incorporated KHI to help one of their development
drivers PJ. Maybe they have one guy in mind.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
I'm thinking Keel and Harvick hands down.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
I mean, the kid already ran his first pro late
model race and he is barely a teenager.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
If even I think, is he twelve? I think he's twelve.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
That's the number one.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
Yeah, so he hasn't even become a teenager. But I
could certainly see Kevin wanting to have Rodney be that
driver coach for him, because sometimes, even though Kevin could
probably do it, a kid will listen more to somebody
other than their parent, Right, So I can see Kevin
been wanting to have someone that he respects be that
guiding voice.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
For his son.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Makes it makes a lot of sense, and also it
would take I mean, there is a certain amount of
pressure that comes with being a crew chief in NASCAR,
and you know, Justin Haley wasn't winning races. Yes, he
had a couple of good runs this year, but for
the most part, you know, they probably said, okay, look,
(27:29):
we've the management. This is this is the Spire management talking.
We have spent enough money and brought in the right
people where we should be winning or at least running
up front consistently, and we're not doing that. Just exactly
what is the problem now when you deal with that
kind of pressure, some people are good at it and
(27:52):
some people are not. And perhaps it's you know, that
extra pressure is not exactly what Childers needed. And the
fact that he could work with Kevin Harvick and at
a very relaxed pace, albeit probably a lot less money.
Speaker 6 (28:09):
Well, and it's personalities. I mean, it's a big piece
of it, you know. I don't think that Justin Haley
wasn't even involved in any of the discussions. He didn't
find out until after the fact. But it's just I
think it's just a way of approaching things is very
different between Rodney Childers and the Spire Group. And I
said this earlier that there's my stylist. My hairstylist actually
(28:34):
has a sign up on her mirror that says I'm
a hair stylist. I'm a beautician, not a magician. And
I think that that still applies to every job. I mean,
you're a crew chief, you're not a magician, right. I mean,
if you don't have all the right pieces in place
and people aren't willing to take the input and use it,
(28:55):
your hands are tied. So I think it's probably a
good thing that Rodney's moving on to something else.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Chemistry. Yes, if the chemistry isn't right, you have to
make a move. And it's a lot easier fire and
a crew chief than it is to fire the driver.
Let's find something other than the driver to blame on
our lack of performance. So that's pretty much what it is.
We do have a caller Rotten out in New Berlin
(29:23):
on the phone.
Speaker 18 (29:24):
Hi, Ron, Yeah, I got something to complain about. Oh boy,
yesterday they just never shut up. My close caption can't
even keep up with it? Anybody with me?
Speaker 6 (29:36):
The announcers yesterday couldn't shut up? He said, the close
caption couldn't keep up.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Oh yeah, I heard that. Well.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
I think that's kind of a broadcast thing. Some people
in broadcasting understand that there is a time and a
place for what we call dead air.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
It's okay.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
Other people get so nervous that they just feel the
need to fill every single space with something, and it's
unfortunate when they do talk too much like that.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Interesting, you know, you don't know.
Speaker 18 (30:12):
The announcers. I do like is the truck race when
you have Kevin Brad and Joey. Those guys are very informative.
Those guys I can listen to. But the other guys
pose caption if anything.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah, no kidding, I agree to you. It's the same thing,
that chemistry thing we were just talking about. Yeah, it's
the same. What blows me away is when I watch
social media and there are people There was a pole
I think Kenny Wallace put a pole up the other
day about who's the best announcing team on television and
(30:49):
the pole said NBC, You've got to be kidding me.
Fox is so far and away better than any other network,
any other group that there is in my opinion that
I don't even know how you could even guess that.
But stuff. But we appreciate the call and we'll be
(31:09):
back hanging there be.
Speaker 9 (31:11):

bring down Barry Bonds or Lebron.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
It's just a great achievement.
Speaker 20 (33:42):
The Dan Patrick Show and then and you The Dan
Patrick Show week days at eight am on Fox Sports nine.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Yeah, we're jumping right into the short track racing season.
The Sheboygan County Fairgrounds actually opened yesterday. Our friend Bill
Winag is here and what you know, it's a kind
of a hit and miss with the weather this time
of year, isn't it. Bill?
Speaker 8 (34:11):
Yeah, I was pretty nervous last night going in with
the cold and it's been wet all week and what
are we going to have? And we ended up we
had a really good crowd that ate and drank a lot,
so it was well worth not canceling and made it worthwhile.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Having.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
Yeah, exciting season coming up this week or this year,
Bill and a Shmorgas Board of Cars again this year
at Plymouth. Looking at your schedule, of course, the big
event this year that everybody's been talking about and we've
been waiting for for over twenty years is the return
of the World of Out Lost Sprint Cars on June sixth.
How are ticket sales going on that and how excited,
are you for that?
Speaker 8 (34:47):
Well, it's great to have these guys back after twenty
years of not having them. Ticket sales have been going really,
really well from the date we announced it. I think
it was like five hundred or something like that the
first couple of weeks, and we've at least tripled that now.
So should be a great night of racing with them.
And with the three nights and the High Limits off
(35:10):
that weekend, I expect a lot of those High Limits
guys to stick around and race with us too.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
And then looking at your schedule Late Models this year,
nine different nights, you're gonna have Late Models at Plymouth.
You have the Super sixth series, which I see they
must have built in a rain day because they are
actually seven races, and then the two Dirt Kings events
at the end of the year. Good to see some
Late Models back there again.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
People love those.
Speaker 8 (35:33):
Yeah, yeah, you know, it got to be kind of
it was hard with having them every week, and those
guys liked tour and everything, and the Dirt Kings kind
of affected us. So going to this six, six, seven
nights of the Late Models has really helped out. It's
also opened us up to having other classes in with
the A Mods are coming in the street Stocks. Last
(35:55):
night we had the Legends and a variety of different things,
which brings a whole new group of people out of
the track and a whole different audience. So it's worked
out really well for us.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Yeah, I saw that on the schedule.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
On Saturday night, August sixteenth, which is an off night
for one forty one, you're bringing the A Mods in
and it's been I mean, they're there for the Watson Race,
but to have them on a night when there really
isn't anything else going on, that should be pretty cool.
Speaker 8 (36:19):
Yeah, looking forward to that. I believe last year we
had them and it was a rain out night, So
have them back this year and it'll be interesting. The
street Stock guys, they've been at us for a couple
of years now, of hey, we need to be there
every week and it's hard to run five classes every night,
so we'll mix them in as much as we can.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Another cool thing this year is Brad Miller putting on
that the Dirt Devil Grand National Tour. I saw your
car cat last night for Grand Nationals was really really
good and that wasn't a dirt Dirt Devil night, so
expecting a lot of those cars back this year.
Speaker 8 (36:51):
Yeah. We did a couple shows over the off season
and they had a lot of good feedback from beaver
Dam drivers and over one forty one is no longer
running the Grand Nationals on Saturdays, so that opened it
up and I think we had twenty five twenty six
of them last night. Unfortunately, Justin Miller total went out
(37:12):
with hitting the wall on the front straightaway, so we'll
see how quick they can get a car put back together.
But yeah, it should be a great series. And thanks
to Brad for putting that whole dirt little thing together.
It's really going to help us out too.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Another big thing that Plymouth is noted for is their food.
I mean if you go to a racetrack. I mean
I've been to racetracks all over the country and there's
nobody that does food as good as Plymouth. Steak sandwich
thing they have going made to order there. All that
stuff is back again for this year.
Speaker 8 (37:43):
Yep, everything's everything's back. We've expanded a few things here
and there. Food prices, I think the steak sandwiches have
went up a whopping quarter this year, but everything else
stayed the same. So I always say come hungry when
you're coming to Plymouth, because we'll feed you and if
you can find something good by us. You're a very
distinctive kind of food critique.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
They had those stakes sandwiches. They're fantastic, no doubt. So
what time would somebody want to go up to Plymouth
and watch the whole show? What time should they get there?
And what time you start racing?
Speaker 8 (38:17):
Right now? For the month of May until I think
the thirty first, we're going to go back to regular time,
but we're starting an hour earlier, so gates open at
four on track, stuff will happen at four point thirty
and then the racing will start around five o'clock. So
be there early, get your food, get your seat, and
enjoy a great night.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
That's the luck to you this year, my friend.
Speaker 8 (38:40):
We appreciate that. And one other thing we have going
is the Road America Challenge IndyCar Weekend, where the IRA
will be in town and co promoting with Road America,
and that has worked out good the past few years,
so we're going to keep it rolling on IndyCar this year.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Well, a couple of names out there for us, would
your bill, what's that through a couple of names out
there we might see.
Speaker 8 (39:03):
Well, supposedly for the Outlaws, Cassey Kane will be in,
Tollen Rico has come in. You know, all the standard
world outlaw guys will be here. The Road America Challenge.
I've heard interests from a couple of Indye car guys
of jumping over and hopping in a sprint.
Speaker 7 (39:21):
Car that night.
Speaker 8 (39:23):
You have like Ferrucci has raced and Catherine Legg they've
both raced midgets now. So we'll see Connor daily as
a possibility. It'd be great to see him in a
sprint car.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Bias. That's fantastic. Bill weinog be our guy up at
Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth. Thanks for being on good
best of luck to you this season, my friend.
Speaker 8 (39:44):
All right, Thanks a lot, guys, and appreciate you having
me on.

Now the LTN Hour Presidents Turn on the Dirt with
Brian Schmidt.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
We're kicking into high gear and the dirt track racing
across the country. Friday night, we had a lot of
rain in Wisconsin that wiped out all the racing in
the tracks that were supposed to open up around the
area here. But Sapulpa, Oklahoma ran Friday night the Creek
County Speedway for the Power Eye Wing sprint Cars. Tanner
Thorson Wizz Your Winner, Jacksonville, Illinois, the World of out
Law and Noss Injured Drink Sprint Car Series. Kyle Larson
(43:01):
dropped in and Kyle Larson took their money grabbing the
win on that race.
Speaker 4 (43:05):
It was he had to work for that one.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
If the box scorel show a four second win, but
if you watched it, there was a lot of laugh
traffic and a lot of dicing he had to do
to get that win, and he was pretty thrilled. You
don't see him get overly excited about winning anymore. He
was pretty excited after winning that. One Friday night, Georgetown, Delaware,
the Lucas Oil Late MODELERT Series twenty thousand dollars to win.
Devin Moran picked up the win there. Last night, Plymouth
(43:26):
opened up their track. As we just talked to Bill
Wynog and the winners in the MSA three sixty sprints,
Ben Schmidt Grand Nationals went to Jake Richards and the
Legends went to Adam Zelmer. One forty one Speedway at
Francis Creek. They had another whopping two hundred and six
cars in five divisions up there. It's just every week
it's incredible. The IMSA Modified's Todd Dart Wozie winner and
(43:47):
the IMCA Stock Cars was Cole Sarneski over at New Richmond, Wisconsin,
Cedar Lake Speedway. In the late Models it's Chad and
Mader Modified, Dylan Gettle and USRRY Limited Lates went to
Corey Rissy. Rice Lake opened up their season linelast night
and the was Soda Modified's Blake Adams.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
Was your winner.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
I looked him up a little bit. He's from Cameron.
I think he's the son of Buzzy Adams, who we
always mentioned winning all the time up here. So like
fatherlike Sun, it looks like there. I was at Beavertam
last night for the Glenn Hefner Memorial for the IRA
sprint Cars. Jake Newman was your winner. That was an
interesting race. I mean, you want to talk about dicing
in sprint car racing. They went thirty laps after early caution.
(44:24):
They went NonStop through there and it was like that
was jet fighters in the gymnasium. Dan, you were watching
that with me.
Speaker 4 (44:30):
That was some pretty breathtaking racing that was going on there,
especially with Travis Aarons.
Speaker 7 (44:34):
That was and especially when the leaders caught traffic, I
mean here in lab traffic trying to figure out where
they're going to go and then have to try to
take the lead with Aarons and Newman. They they a
couple of times. I was up on edge of my
seat thinking they ain't gonna make this, and they pulled
it off and had a pretty good deal.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
And afterwards and it was down in Victory Lane talking
with Travis Aarons, He's from Sheboygan here, so I know
him ro well. And I shook his hand and I said,
boy I said, you scared the heck out of me.
You guys are nuts. And he just has a huge smile.
He goes, that was fun. I'm like, wow, definition of
fun and others are two different things. I guess that
was those something else. Badger Midgets. Parker Jones was your
winner and the Dirt King Late Model Series went to
Nick Anne. The Link Pure Illinois Last Night to Mars
(45:09):
Dirt Car Series five thousand, ninety eight dollars to win.
Ryan Unsucker was your winner. Cocomo, Indiana for the YUSAK
National Sprint Cards. Jacob Denny was your winner. Knoxville, Iowa
for the four ten sprints. Rico Abrew was your winner.
In the three sixties, it was Aaron right Soul Freemont, Ohio.
The All Star Circuit of Champions is back in action
this year after taking a year off.
Speaker 4 (45:27):
Caleb Henry was your winner.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
Hobstat, Indiana the Tri State Speedway for the World of
Nos Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
Speaker 4 (45:33):
Sheldon Heldenschild got the win. Hagerstown, Maryland.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series twenty five thousand
dollars and win that went to Ricky Thornton Junior. And
finally the big money racer the weekend wasn't Talladaya, Alabama.
It was supposed to be a two day show for
the World of out Laws. Storms knocked him out Friday night,
so they only ran last night for the Alabama Gang
one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to win, and Bobby
Pierce took home the money.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
There that is everything for this week.
Speaker 6 (45:56):
Onto the asphalt side of things. We already kind of
touched on the action at talladeg got Arco winner was
Lawless Allen and the Xfinity winner was Austin Hill in
the photo finish freeze frame scoring loop clamination.
Speaker 5 (46:09):
Yes, but we'll go on to the short tracks.
Speaker 6 (46:12):
Then Grundy County Speedway roaring into action, big stut big
eight style late models. Your winner was Michael builderback just fy.
John Reynolds Junior was involved in a nasty wreck in
that one. I believe I heard he was okay after.
Speaker 7 (46:28):
Yeah, he's here at Slinger of a different car. The
white cars here.
Speaker 6 (46:31):
Wow, impressively glad to hear that. Jefferson Speedway had their
opener last night. Late Model winner was and fast time
Jason Ericson In atoby Car five Flag Speedway had the
Pro Late Models in action last night for race number
one in the series. Jake Finch was the winner the
Zmax Cars Tour last night as well. The Pro Late
(46:53):
Model two fifty winner was Luke Baldwin. The Late Model
Stock Car two fifty winner was Jared Fryar. Also of note,
the World Racing League was at Road America. Josh Bullicky
picked up that win yesterday and he'll be winning again today.
Speaker 5 (47:07):
Are be hoping to win again today. And then just
some upcoming notes.
Speaker 6 (47:11):
ASA Midwest Tour opener will be next Sunday with the
Joe Sheer Classic at Madison International Speedway. Mark Martin will
be there as well, not to race, but to be
signing autographs and just kind of rubin elbows with everybody.
And then of course the season opener for Slinger is
tonight Jerry Bear Preaschkin Memorial and the All Star Challenge
(47:32):
Series with twenty five hundred dollars to win. That'll be
happening today tonight, qualifying at noon, racing at two and
Dan Margetta is out there just kind of watching the practice.
Speaker 7 (47:45):
Yeah, practice is going pretty well. They've got a lot
of cars here right now. The sports and cars are
on the track, but late model practice is pretty clean.
Had one minor incident, Zach Fronnie spun after getting into
a little bit with the three car Harmonica, but I
think that was a fluid on a racetrack. They clean
it up, no harm, no foul, no damage. We're ready
to roll and well it's gonna be great to come
on out pretty.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
Great here in race cars out there at this time
of year when we're here, we're finally ready for it, right.
Speaker 7 (48:12):
Oh yeah, and that's always yeah, this is official start
of spring, but it's specially start a summer for me.
This is time to open up the summer home on
top of the roof, and every Sunday here watching the rates.
It's not nothing better.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
I had a note from our friend Gwen Shill who
let Matt know that Whitey Harris was another driver for
Freddy Nielsen over the years. So between Johnny Chimer and
Whitey Harris, he had a couple of pretty prolific modified
drivers drive in form. The one thing we can say
about Freddy Nielsen he always had great drivers and a
(48:48):
lot of success, a lot of winning going on there.
So that's pretty cool stuff for sure. Also, we mentioned
about childrens getting fired from over there at the seven
car by your seven car, Justin Haley failed the pre
race inspection twice, which means the car chief was ejected,
(49:10):
they lost their pitstall selection. These are all kind of
important things at Talladega. Of course, one of those things
is enough to make you lose the race. What's that then?
Speaker 7 (49:19):
No, but a lot of things going on there with
that team. You think about it, Okay, the children's left
the Uh the thing happened at the tech today with
the carrier. The other car chief before went to the
fifty four car week ago, and their whole pit crew
went to the five teams. There's a whole bunch of
things going on there. Everybody but the driver right seems
like it. Yeah, well it's somebody else's fault.
Speaker 1 (49:42):
Whatever it is. I never saw the great attraction and
apparently I just don't know what I'm watching. Justin Haley
is so highly regarded that makes me wonder.
Speaker 7 (49:55):
Well, I think it was because he drove that rick
Ware car last year, that fifty one car, and actually
his finishes are a lot better what that car was
supposed to be capable of. Me took some pretty mediocre
equipment and had some pretty decent finishes with it, and
they got a lot of people saw, and that's kind
of what had him high on them.
Speaker 1 (50:10):
There you go, We're gonna sneak away and be back Freezing.
Speaker 21 (50:15):

Speaker 19 (52:57):
Talking about Alex Ovegkins scoring record being more impressive than
Lebron's all time record in scoring and Barry Bond's home
run records instead of celebrating Ovechkin, then you have to
bring down Barry Bond or Lebron.

It's just a great achievement.

days is eight am on Fox Sports nine.
Speaker 1 (53:25):
Man, welcome back. Nice of you to join us here.
Sunday morning be a great day to go out to
the racetrack for sure. As a matter of fact, let's
let's go ahead and make our picks today just for fun.
At Talladay guy I already mentioned, I thought it was
going to be Kyle Busch. He cannot go the rest
of his career without winning. I'm sorry, and for a Slinger.
(53:48):
And remember, if there's any picks that you know that
I make my team here, you guys can agree with
me and tell me just how brilliant I really am.
But I think it's going to be a Zach riddle
at Slinger today in that, by the way, knowing there's
some pretty damn good guys that are gonna be racing
in the late models, let's see, Brian.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
I'm going with Joey Lgano today at Talladega.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Okay, Slinger, Uh, I don't know much about it, think
about all right, Jesse Burraggan maybe.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
Okay, that's good. Drick, all right, uh Daniel.
Speaker 7 (54:25):
All right, I'm gonna go for Talladega. See the guy
crashes his indy car, wins in a sprint car. It's
in his head. He can't run on a super speedway ever,
he says, but he breaks that streak today. Kyle Larson, Oh, okay, Slinger,
I'm gonna go with the Black forty two of Dennis Fronty.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
Hmm all right, Well, if anybody knows this a way around, Slinger,
it's gonna be that guy. All right. PJ.
Speaker 5 (54:48):
Well, I'm gonna go with Ryan Blaney for Talladega.
Speaker 6 (54:52):
And I'm just not really sure about Slinger, But what
the heck, I'm gonna throw Ryan Gutnick out there.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
Interesting. He gets a round, Slinger as good as anybody does,
that's for sure. All right, very good. There's a couple
of TV shows that are coming soon to a streaming
device near you. Netflix has this Full Speed Now I've
never seen that? Is that the one, uh PJ, that
(55:20):
that you and I found ourselves on by accident a
couple of years ago?
Speaker 5 (55:24):
Netflix?
Speaker 1 (55:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (55:26):
Yeah, If you and I both have T mobile and
they give it to you for free. So yeah, we
both have no.
Speaker 1 (55:30):
No, I meant we were in the actual the filming
of that.
Speaker 5 (55:33):
Oh yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:36):
So that's good. Now that starts up in May, and Brian, uh,
Prime Network has got a pretty good one coming here. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (55:45):
I don't know a whole lot of the details about
that one. I know about about the one that's gonna
be on Netflix they talked about. Yeah, but Prime is
starting something up as well that you're going to be
able to see as the season goes on. So Prime
is gonna starting with the Coke six hundred. They will
be doing the six races for it, and.
Speaker 7 (56:01):
They have an Earnhardt documentary series coming up that starts
on May twenty second. That'll be on Prime. The one
on Netflix is the one that follows the last and
last so many Races of last year, kind of a
reality type so kind of based after that Formula one
Netflix series. That's one on Netflix. The one on Prime
is the one on earth Heart, which looks really good.
It looks like a lot of footage that people haven't seen,
(56:21):
like some home video footage and stuff like that, So
looked pretty.
Speaker 1 (56:24):
Cool, interesting stuff. Hey, when you were picking Kyle Larson.
A couple of minutes ago, you mentioned briefly that Kyle
Larson crashed this week. He's had quite a week as
any you think of the versatility of that guy in
his Indy car, he crashed in a practice at Indianapolis.
(56:45):
I did not see the crash. How bad was it?
Speaker 7 (56:49):
Well, bad enough to destroy the hit the car. He
kind of went wide off the corner and pancake the wall,
and of course that just destroyed that side of the car,
came down across the track, went back across the speedway,
wrecked the car. But he hit it flush enough to
not spectacular crash and get hurt, so enough to really
damage the car. But right after that, uh, to Kumasado,
who's a two time Indy five hundred winner and a
(57:09):
really good guy at Indianapolis, just crash and destroyed his car.
He backed his car in and really wrecked that thing
about the same spot.
Speaker 1 (57:17):
So boy, well, uh, and imagine, here's here's Larson crashing
an Indy car, kicking everybody's behind in a sprint cart.
Was that he was a sprint car Brian right?
Speaker 7 (57:27):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (57:28):
World of Outlaws, Yep, Oh my god, that's and you know, oh,
by the way, Uh, he's racing at Talladega today. Uh
talk about versatility. Yeah, you know there's I can't believe
that people actually jump on a bandwig and that that
that gives him a bunch of bs about crashing at Indianapolis.
Not like he's the only guy that that scrapes the
(57:49):
wall and practice at Indianapolis.
Speaker 7 (57:51):
You know, do it in April and not me, And
that's that all comes from. You know, everybody says he's
the greatest driver. There were some comments about comparing him
to Max for stopping in Formula One, and I think
he had alluded to that. Maybe he was thought he
was better than Max for stopping on an oval slid.
A lot of that for that comes up when something
happens it doesn't go his way, it gets a lot
(58:12):
of attention, just like could he talked to Kevin Harvick's
as I run the X menu racist like and let's
stop the field or something like that.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
Now, as far as versatility, Max verse stap and wouldn't
do squat in any car other than a Formula car
or maybe an Indy car. But the fact of the
matter is, look at the diversity and rhydes that Kyle Larson,
it's absolutely spectacular. We're really happy you joined us today
(58:38):
as or we're getting ready to race in Talladega. Don't
