Hello and welcome to Wisconsin Banger Women's hockey. Thanks so
much for.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
Being here on this very exciting afternoon. That's the number
one Wisconsin Badgers play host to their longtime rivals, the
number three Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
My name is Zach Sieloff, and it's a pleasure to
be with.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
You on a gorgeous Saturday here in Madison as we
get ready to celebrate Senior Night. With today's series being
the final regular season home game for the twenty twenty
four to twenty twenty five season, Paul Brown and Mark
green Hall will have to call for you when the
puck drops at two PM. But before then, let's recaps
last weekend's action. The Badgers were on the road in
Duluth taking on the number six Bulldogs, a great team
with an outstanding goaltender at v Gascon. Both games were
(01:15):
tight affairs, with neither team able to solve the other's goalie.
Has mentioned, v Gascon had an outstanding weekend in net
for und making an incredible eighty six saves over the
course of the weekend. In Game one, each team scored
only one goal in regulation, with Maryann Picard striking for
Wisconsin and Gray Sadura potting one for Duluth. However, in
the overtime period, it was Kirston Simms, the junior from Plymouth, Michigan,
(01:38):
who came through huge for Wisconsin with her second straight
game winner. Laid into the ot period, she and Casey
O'Brien charged up the ice with a two on one opportunity.
O'Brien slid the puck over to Simms, whose first shot
was stopped by Gascone. The rebound came right back to her,
but she swung over the top and didn't connect, sticking
with the play as she was falling to the ice.
She tried for a third time and was able to
slip the puck past the stretching pad of game, getting
(02:01):
the score and earning the win for Wisconsin. Then on Saturday,
the Badgers faced a situation they have encountered very and
frequently this season. They had to play from behind. At
seventeen thirty in the first period, Olivia Mobley found the
back of the net for the Bulldogs, and d Luth
would carry their one oh lead into the third period.
Although the Badgers looked slightly off their game in that
first period, in the second frame, they outshot d Luth
(02:22):
thirteen to four, but were unable to put one past
the wall that was v Gascon and net. As the
third period began, the Badgers began to buzz and the
opportunities started coming more quickly. The dam finally broke at
six fourteen into the third with a tic tac TOAs
that of passes went from Carolyn Harvey to Lacey Eden
and on to the NCAA's leading score Leila Edwards. Edwards
had nothing but empty net to look at and buried
(02:43):
the shot to tie things up for Wisconsin. Five and
a half minutes later, it was the anchor of the
energy line, Sarah Waznvitch, who got a pass at the
top of the near circle and sent a sniper shot
to the top corner of the net, beating Gascon on
the gloves sign and giving the Badgers the two to
one lead that they would carry to the final horn,
taking five of six WCCHA points.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
On the weekend.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
Along with goalscorers, the Wisconsin goaltender was just as instrumental
in the effort, with Davin McNaughton playing a pair of
great games, allowing only two goals while making forty five saves.
Her efforts all month did not go unnoticed, and the
WCCHA recognize them by naming her Goaltender of the Month
for January, her third such award this season, and then
just a couple days ago, she was named the semifinalist
(03:23):
on the HCA's list of goaltenders of the Year. The
way things stand out, the Badgers have sixty five points
in the WCCHA and the Golfers have just forty eight. However,
since Minnesota has six games left to play against the
Badgers four, they are still theoretically in the hunt so
long as they win all their games outright. And Wisconsin
loses all of their games outright. I don't know about you,
but I think these seniors are going to have something
(03:45):
to say about that this afternoon, and we could finish
up the night with Wisconsin crown the WCCHA regular season
champs once again. Before we've got that, We've got plenty
more for you on the pregame show, including an interview
with the winning as coach in University of Wisconsin history

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Back on the pregame show Paul Brown with you w
women's hockey coach Mark Johnson One Time of the Year.
Now Minnesota in town and Mark from your days as
a player and a coach, Rivalry games, border battle and
that kind of thing. Is it really something special or
in most cases another regular series.
Speaker 7 (05:33):
It's actually both. But you know, you look at your
schedule and you know all the different people that we
play and travel and play around. You know, I think
the games against Minnesota, you know, sort of stick out.
The last several years Ohio State have stuck out just
because of the meaningful games that we've had to play
each against each other, whether it's in the regular season
(05:53):
and the playoffs or in the national championship tournament. So
anytime you play against somebody that you're playing meaningful games,
it creates a rivalry. And you know, it's been that
way for twenty two years that I've been coaching. On
the women's side, it was that way when I played.
It was probably more intense on the men's side when
I played than we are right now, just because so
(06:14):
many of the players get a chance to play with
each other, you know, on national teams and I'm under
eighteen teams, so they know each other. But it's still
it's fun, the fans get excited. What I like about
it is, you know, these type of games make you
better as a team because it's going to force you
to get out of your comfort zone to play at
a real high level. What do you tell your team
(06:35):
in a week like this, Well, today's game and even
tomorrow's game, it's about enjoying it. I mean, the place
is going to be packed, there's going to be a
lot of excitement. It's senior Day. I mean, a lot
of great things and you don't get many opportunities to
play in this environment. So you know you've done what
you need to do to get ready for the game.
The big thing is to enjoy it. Sometimes I think
kids don't enjoy the moment they're in, and you know,
(06:58):
that's part of life. You got to enjoy what you're
doing in So it's going on, you know the ice today,
I wanted to, you know, put a smile on your face,
enjoy the three periods. Before you know it, it's going
to be gone and you may never get a chance
to have this experience again. So make the most out
of it.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
And when you get into a week like this. Over
the years, I've heard coaches say a lot of times
you play like your practice. What kind of week is
it there?
Speaker 7 (07:21):
It's been good. You know, we we're playing Saturday Sunday.
You know, you have an extra day in there, you
utilize it or you take a day off. So we practiced,
you know, Monday and Tuesday, and then took Wednesday off,
which was good. It's that time of year where you
know a day off here and there can be really
beneficial for kids that are banged up. We were a
little bit banged up coming out of Duluth. But you know,
(07:43):
the energy level was good in yesterday's practice, and so
I'm anxious to see how we start because Minnesota is
notorious first starting quickly and creating chances fast. So you
got to be ready to play against them because they
come out of the gates flying.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
I was just going to ask you about that breakdown
the Minnesota the current team, maybe on the next question,
but on this one. Traditionally when you play Minnesota, what
do you normally get. I know it's different from year
to year.
Speaker 7 (08:10):
Well, it's like most other games. I mean, they see
us on the schedule and we see them, and it's
so excites the players. I mean, the coaches get excited
for the week because the players are you know, getting
in a position to you know, play at a real
high level. And you know, both teams get excited to
play against each other, whether it's up at Ritter and
usually the crowds up there the last several years have
(08:30):
been really big, and when they come down here, as
we see today and tomorrow, you know, there's a lot
of energy in the building, and so it's great from
a spectators standpoint that hey, they get entertained and treated
some real high level hockey.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Minnesota loves to go though. Do you try and play
a style maybe a wing back or something like that.
Speaker 7 (08:48):
Well, you just have to be aware. Obviously, Murphy's a
you know, a big time tour and she's got speed
that can break away, so you have to be aware
when she's on the ice. But you know, this time
of year, you die in and doing things you need
to do to be successful. And those are the things
we'll focus on because if we're playing at a real
high level, then we become challenging to play against.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
And you talk about you mentioned the name Abby Murphy.
She is a great player. She's also somebody that kind
of would you call her an agitator or something.
Speaker 7 (09:20):
Like that, that's probably one term you could use more.
But she gets under the other players again and you know,
drives the referees crazy at times. But you know, she's
a competitor, you know, and when she's going, she's as
good as anybody in the country. I mean, she doesn't
do a lot of goals in her career, and you
have to be aware when she's on the ice, especially
with her speed, because she can break away from people
(09:42):
and create breakaways and outnumbered situations. So definitely a threat
for them, and hopefully, you know, our defensive core and
the people that are on the ice are going to
be aware of it. So she doesn't have the puck,
she can't do much so that we're in the family
box right now. We've seen that before too. But the
big thing is to, as I told the team, let's
be consistent from shift to shift today and see if
(10:03):
we can get sixty minutes of that.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
And talking about the Badgers, you did some line combination
switching last week. Anything work or do you go back
to what was normal for most of the year.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
Well, I mean at times, you know, in particular games,
something that might not be working. So you know, do
you make a change, do you move people around? And you
know we did that and to loot a couple of
different scenarios. But then you get back into practice and
it's like, well what works well against you know, this group.
So we're i'd say we're pretty back to normal of
what we've done the last month and a half. And
(10:34):
so you know, it comes down to the individuals going
out and executing and you know, playing their best hockey,
and we do that collectively, then then we have a
pretty good chance to win it.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
One more point wins the league, but there's so much
more to be accomplished yet, right.
Speaker 7 (10:49):
Well, yeah, I mean that's that's the big hurdle.
Speaker 8 (10:51):
Now.
Speaker 7 (10:51):
It's you know, it's a game where you know you
have a chance to do something special. I mean, it's
it's it's a tough trow for you win. You have
to be consistent for twenty eight games against really high
level competition. And you know we're able to do that.
Be a feather in our camps, but you know, you
still got games going on, and so you got a
midgie and then you know you got the playoffs and
(11:12):
then you got NCA tournament. So we're just getting our
feet wet right now. And the nice thing is there's
light at the end of the tunnel. It's not like
it's two, three, four months away and it's a long
grind to get there. It's it's right around the corner.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
And one final question, we're going to let you go
on tomorrow's broadcast. During the intermission, Mark is going to
go through all of the seniors and talk about them individually.
But that's another thing not to forget here for this weekend,
and they're going to be honored during their after this game.
Speaker 7 (11:39):
Yeah, you take time to recognize them. Some have been
there four years, some have been here five years, and
so you know they've done a lot of great things individually.
Collectively Disason group, they've been very powerful. They've got a
chance to win some championships, and so it's a small
way to show our appreciation and thank them for what
(12:00):
they've done here at Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
And Otia and thank you for the time coach best.
Speaker 7 (12:04):
All right, enjoy.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Welcome back everyone.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Those were the thoughts of Mark Johnson before Senior night
here and Paul. We just saw the introduction of all
the seniors, Lacey Heaton and Marianne Picard, the Sarah Wisnevich,
Katie Kilowski, Casey O'Brien, and Quinn Cooin's a lot of
great players and they're playing their final home regular season
series tonight. That's always an emotional time and an exciting time.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Yeah, when you talk to them, they reflect a little
bit about what their memories are of having played now
for a number of years for the Wisconsin Badgers. The
friendships that they've made, a lot of them will be
long lifetime friendships. That and then of course the aspirations
and several of the cases of the seniors to go
(12:51):
on and play hockey and that kind of thing. A
couple of the other ones, I've had a great college career.
Now I'm going to get on with my life and
that kind of thing. And all of them reflect is
talk about what a great experience that's been, what a
good program it is above the city. A lot of
them love living here and that kind of thing, and
overall it's just a wonderful experience for it sure is.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
I don't want to be too instrumental about it or
put the car before the horse, but you look at
this team, the seniors that they're losing. We mentioned Heaton, O'Brien,
Kolowski was Nev's pccart and who's Those are all great players.
But you think of all the players that I didn't
mention who are coming back next season.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
This is a relatively young.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
Team that they're having so much success needs this season.
You wonder, although next year is an Olympic here, what
they'll be able to do next year with another year
of experience.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Well, potentially a couple of the seniors that have been
introduced potentially have one more year and could come back, right,
Ayden could come back, Pricard could come back. But I
think they're evaluating their situations and that kind of stuff.
And that's the college world today, right. Absolutely, I see
coach Greenhall here. I'm gonna have the headset off, have
(13:59):
a great broadcast and go Badgers. All right, The Badgers
are being introduced, no surprise. Ava McNaughton will be the
goaltender for the Wisconsin Badgers. Back. Defensively, it'll be Vivian
Jungles paired with Caroline KK Harvey. And upfront it's going
to be Shims along with O'Brien and Edwards. The better
(14:20):
show to Golden Gophers and the Wisconsin Badgers. The rivalry continues.
We'll be back after this time out. This is Wisconsin
Badger Women's hockey.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
And now with the call of the game, here's the
Hall of Famer Paul Brawn on ten seventy the game.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
From La Ponderina. Good afternoon everyone. It's the Wisconsin Badgers
twenty seven one and two against the Golden Gophers Minnesota, who.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Come in with a record of twenty.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Two six and one. This is the one hundred and
twenty eighth meeting between the Gophers and the Badgers. Minnesota
has a slight edge as Wisconsin has only one fifty
four they have lost fifty seven and sixteen games have
ended in a time. A belated happy birthday to my
(16:44):
broadcast partner Greeney. Happy birthday there, my friend.
Speaker 11 (16:48):
Well thanks a lot. You know what they say, it's
a matter of mind. If you don't mind, it don't matter.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
That's the way I looked at it. You're about forty now, huh,
well I will. Oh. It should be fun.
Speaker 11 (16:59):
It's a big weekend, of course, just a huge contest
between these two teams, no matter what rink, no matter
what the records are, no matter what time of year
it is.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
And the Minnesota Golden Gophers they have five players who
are not in the lineup when these two teams met
for the last time up in the Twin Cities, and
they also have a new goaltender Hannah Clark, and she's
kind of the staple for the Minnesota Golden Gopher. Yep,
(17:29):
she's solid and Aba McNaughton will be in net. No
surprise for the Wisconsin Badgers twenty six one and two
in the year per save percentage better than ninety four percent,
her goals allowed is only one point sixteen. Minnesota will
start with Connor on the left side, Hubert at center,
(17:51):
and Abby Murphy on the right side. Back Defensively, it's
premore Anno along with Morrow and as we mentioned, Clark
and gold The Badgers getting from right to let Well
back handed down to the corner. Minnesota back over to
pick it up. They turned and cut a brake. They
(18:11):
come in over the line. It's a tie and she
just missed the owner than that, Sims tried to hold
it in. Minnesota works it out over the center eyes
over to Murphy with a drive and that's blocked. Defensively,
Jungle's over to pick it up and they play it
up the boards at center ice. The golphers break it up,
whistle and we've got blaze stop and let's ye here.
(18:35):
I'm not exactly sure the puck go out of the rink.
Some object fell on the ice. There we go, so
we'll have a face off come up in the neutral zone.
Out as hampful. How many men on the ice for Minnesota.
Too many players for the golfers. So the Badgers are
going to go on the power play. Thirty eight second
into the period.
Speaker 11 (18:56):
They just got a bad ship change evidently, and that
enables us to have a person advantage here for two minutes.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Huh. The Badgers have converted on thirty one of eighty
one power play opportunities thirty eight percent. That leads the league.
And out is Edwards along with Eden and uh, it's O'Brien,
Simms and Harvey. Harvey with a puck got on top
over the Sims. Sims back on the near side over
to O'Brien cross ice. It's going to be tipped away
(19:25):
defensively by Minnesota. Badgers go back to their own blue
line to regrow O'Brien with it comes in over the
line to Edwards on the play over to Eden. Back
in Sims had an open net and it was turned
away by Hannah Clark. Outstanding, say, great shot, great Steve.
Here's O'Brien back out on top over the Harvey. Harvey
(19:48):
with a drive deflected down of the corner back on
the wing. It's the Badger setting it up at the
point and controlling the puck with it is O'Brien down
back over to Edwards in the corner. They try to
give it off over to Edon and diving out his
hand of Clark to put it away.
Speaker 11 (20:05):
Man, that was a great way back door shot by
Sims coming across the creeks from O'Brien and just Clark
made a bit spectacular save and.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
We'll have the face off coming up to the right
side of Clark back in the Minnesota zone out now
is scandal for the Badgers. It's Jungles defensively along with Potter.
We've got Gorbatanko and Cassie Hall out on the ice
face off in the drama, Matt the power play for
Wisconsin turning it around the Minnesota drives it out of
(20:38):
the zone and they'll clear it all the way back
down and Aba McNaughton, we'll play it behind your net.
Badgers come back to regroup one a minute, reminding the
power play through center ice comes Wisconsin get over the
line played back down in the corner. Badger set it
up Potter who shot it wide of the goal and
around on the far side, and Potter working the wing
(21:01):
trying to hold it in, and it's going to be
driven back down in the corner. With eighteen minutes remitting
in the first period, no scores, shots too, Gophers none,
power play for Wisconsin. Thirty three seconds remnting coming up
ice convenient over the line, Potter with it down on
the corner on the left side, back door on the
(21:21):
play to Corba Tanco and it's going to be driven
out of the zone and the Gophers will dump it
the length of the ice and the Badgers go back
down to fifteen seconds, remainting of the advantage. Minnesota's killed
off the power play opportunity. They come on the lead
the per card and she'll play it down to the
corner of the right side. Wasnevitch is out of the
(21:42):
ice per card and the Minnesota is back at full strength.
Wisconsin does not convert on their first power play opportunity.
Gophers and Badgers full strength. Puck is loose Bnusio back
in the Wisconsin zone, up the boards on the near side,
and it's going to come back to the Gopher zone
skating back over to pick it up. Is Kasaba casabat
(22:06):
around on the far side and and right in front
of the net. Couldn't control the puck Gopher's back. They
come to the Badger line and the puck is loose.
Wisconsin plays it out the center eyes in the neutral zone.
A Minnesota will turn. They'll play it to the right
wing at center ice. Controlling it his hemp worked it
in over the Wisconsin line down in the corner. Badgers
(22:29):
go back and Nusio shuffles it around over the Edwards
skating up the right wing and she flips it down in.
It rolls all the way over to the left corner
where O'Brien comes over to try and pick it up.
Lay to the point Badger's trying to work it along
the boards near side gopher zone and that center ice
is going to be turned away Wisconsin Edwards. She drives
(22:52):
it back down on the corner of the left and
going over to pick it up. His moral defensively on
the play for Minnesota held it at the point by
Harvey works the wing over to Edwards back over to Harvey.
Hopped off her stick, Harvey got it back. Harvey moving
it in in the back door.
Speaker 6 (23:07):
Sh Edwards Harvey.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
And Edwards gets her twenty seventh goal of the year.
Assist to Harvey and the Badgers.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Take a one to nothing lad What a.
Speaker 11 (23:23):
Great pass from Harvey on the left side across the
slot over to Edwards on the other back door.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Hard even sear throw all.
Speaker 11 (23:31):
That traffic and Edwards got the perfect pass from Harvey
for the goal.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Beautiful, beautiful play four oh one into the first period,
the Badgers out in front. Thirty fourth assist of the
year for Harvey and the goal for Edwards, her twenty
seventh goal of the year. Great puck movement, Wow, love it. Yeah,
(23:56):
you're on the boards on their side. It's one nothing.
Minnesota Gophers don't goal breaking it inn moving it in backhander.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
Yeah a room, Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
And they didn't shut or nothing late over the Minnesota
Golden Gophers has etens the opportunity and the Badgers strike
eurly was that determinations displayed by eating there.
Speaker 11 (24:26):
She just carried the puck and then she was getting defended.
She outscated that person and then she beat Clark and
met with a beautiful deep for our second.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Goal of the day. Oh, what an effort. What an effort.
Let's keep it going hot, oh Man four twenty five
the time of the second one twenty four seconds apart
the Badgers strike against the Gophers of Minnesota. Look at
the energy in this building point It is fabulous. And
(24:57):
the play down in the corner. The Badgers need one
to win the league championship. That means a tie in
their last four games of the year. I think they're
gonna get that greeny. We'll see.
Speaker 11 (25:09):
You know, we're gonna have to earn it, but you
know the Gophers will give us everything.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Oh yeah, this is far from over.
Speaker 11 (25:15):
I gotta say, in that penalty kill or powerplay rather,
we had created some good chances, but the best penalty
killer was the clerk in net for him.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
And it's gonna be played down in the corner on
the left side, back in the Badger zone. Wisconsin trying
to bring it out of their own zone. The energy
is up on the part of the cardinal and white.
You can see it.
Speaker 11 (25:35):
Yeah, that band in here too. I love that UW
Badger band played.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Down on the corner. On the near boards. We have
fourteen thirty seven are remenning in the first period, Badgers
back in their own zone over to try and pick
it up. Wisconsin around on the far side. They'll bring
it out and coming through neutral zone and controlling the
puck in Cassie Hall fires it down. The puck comes
around of the wing on the near court to the
(26:00):
point on the left side. Badgers look to hold it
in to nothing. Wisconsin fourteen thirteen, remitting in the first period.
A little scrum going on along the near boards. Badgers
hold it with McCarthy Beckander taking out of the goal
and Wisconsin's fourth line Halverson, Scandal and McCarthy are out
(26:22):
and playing it back down in the corner. Katilowski, one
of the seniors, goes back in behind picks it up.
Badgers will turn and come out of their own zone.
Here's Bnusio playing it in front of the Gopher bench.
Then Minnesota turns it back into the Wisconsin line. That's
Abby Murphy. She's got over fifty points on the ear.
Abby Murphy controls the puck, went down, tried to shuffle
(26:46):
it on the near side. Whistle and play is going
to be stopped. I think they're going to get a
tripping call yep on the Badgers, and that's gonna send
Minnesota on the power play opportunity.
Speaker 11 (26:59):
Now, I'm not saying and that was the wrong call
by any means, Paul, I'm not wearing stripes, but I
think in addition to being a heck of a hockey player,
Murphy went to acting school.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Tool she is knowing for that.
Speaker 11 (27:10):
She'll embellis a little bit, but we're gonna nonetheless, we'll
go on the penalty kill here for two minutes.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Jungles, Yeah, Jungles picked up an assist on that last goal.
Sorted glober tanco her twentieth of the year on the
twentieth goal of the year for Lacey Eden and Minnesota
with the power play opportunity. The Badgers lead a two
to nothing and O'Brien with a nice play back, hands
(27:36):
it down in the corner on the right side. O'Brien
over to pick it up, plays it around the boards
on the right and the Badgers will back it out
to cent our eyes. They'll work it behind. Harvey goes
in behind her own net. Harvey with it will lift
it out and a potential breakup ice is. Eden chases
it down. She gets there first. The Badgers, with O'Brien
(27:57):
working the wing on the near side over the try
and control that Eden in the corner going back or yeah,
they're working hard. Put to nothing Wisconsin Minnesota with them
on one minute twenty seconds remitting in the power play,
Gophers come out of their own zone and they'll work
it in into the Wisconsin line. Gophers down by a
(28:18):
couple of goals, but with a man advantage here. The
Gophers try to worry to take it away by Harvey.
She turns and kilps it down the ice. Great defense
play Hervey and chasing it in the corner over to
pick it up on the near side. Wisconsin down in
the corner on the wing, trying to control the play.
We're down to twelve twenty three remitting in the period.
(28:39):
The crowd appreciating the efforts of the penalty killing unit
of Wisconsin. Coming up i ice through the center zone
goes Lindsey. Lindsay in over the line, pulls up and
she's checked. Potter took it away after she checked her
stripped round over the waiver Murphy and it's played out
towards center eyes and it's going to be controlled. Back
in of the whisky. Huntson line is lighting it and
(29:02):
the Badgers are looking at the penalty clock twenty five
seconds remitting before the strength coming up ice. Wisconsin comes
in of the line, Edwards moving it in. Shot back
oh man, Paul, What a move by Edwards.
Speaker 11 (29:16):
Fully in the human pretzel interceptor by Potter.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Here's Potter back in of the line, Potter moving it
in around behind the goal on the far side. The
buck comes loose and the Badgers for card picks it up.
Oh great, back in of the line and with it
is n right n Ride working the wing on the
near side. Badgers in the neutral zone look to pick
it up and it's going to be played back. Wisconsin
(29:42):
is back at full strength. Minnesota doesn't convert on the
power play. Badgers lead it two to nothing in the
first period. Around on the far side, going back over
his end, Ride around the boards on the wing and
sims over to try and pick it up. Minnesota down
on the corner. The buck is loose, buts there to
try and pick it up. Lay along the boards, Badgers
(30:04):
in their own zone. Gophers shot to get control of
the pump and they'll set it up. There's a shot,
then there's blocked out in front of a Java McNaughton
around over the Simms played ahead on the brake, go
to uh and Ryde who drives it back down to
the Gopher zone. They change up. Minnesota comes up the
right wing and they drive it in over the Wisconsin
(30:24):
line and Hubert trying to shot the goal. What a
play on the part of Hubert to get the goal
on the break. Her tenth go to the air in
Minnesota trails two to one. We'll be back after this
thirty second time out.
Speaker 12 (30:40):

Speaker 2 (31:11):
We're nearing a halfway mark in the first period of
Minnesota scorers and it's say two to one game. The
Badgers out in front. Out of Minnesota's goal was scored
by Huber, with the assist going to Morrow and also
Premarano and coming back up Ice Heres Goorbatanco trying to
(31:32):
skate it down. Garba Tankle with a buck and one
arming the pass out right out in front. It's going
to be steered away, going back over to set it
up as Huber got that goal on a nice play Greennie,
that was a yep it played.
Speaker 11 (31:47):
She had a perfect pass and she just got behind
our defenseman enough and ripped a nice wrist shot from
the left circle.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
And you're going back down and over trying to control it.
O'Brien is out for the Badgers that the crowd a
little bit here and play along the boards on the
near side. I'm gonna pick it up with it as
sims back on the play, it's going to be chipped
away and the Badgers go back Aba Murphy turn trying
to clear it out. It's held in and control Lindsey
(32:15):
with it down on the corner on the near side.
Shots are six to two in the game Minnesota, with
the two Badgers with the lead at two to one,
turning with it as O'Brien. O'Brien on the lead cuts
in over the line and with it his sims off
over to Edwards shot and that went high and came
all the way over to the point on the near side.
(32:35):
Minnesota works the wing and lights and in with it,
turning trying to bring it out, and they'll fire it
back down to the Badger's zone and we'll have a
nice and call.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
Here.
Speaker 11 (32:46):
We'll tell you a pretty fast pace so far out
the gate here sure is oh Man, some great penalty
killing by the Badgers and just some good hustle by
both teams. I noticed they have faster skaters than I've
been seeing in a while.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Based off coming up back in the zone of Minnesota
to the left side of Hannah Clark, the goaltender. Both
teams are at full strength and with it is hamp
hamp On the league coming up bice with it as
Lindsay plays it back in behind Ava McNaughton quickly on
the brake of it of a venusio. She can't tried
to bring it out bad pass Wethington holds it in
(33:25):
shot blocked and diving out of Ava McNaughton to make
the say we're gonna take a break. This is Wisconsin
Badger women's hockey.

Sure, we are at Lebon Arena on the campus of
the University of Wisconsin here in Madison, along with Jack
Selas and Mark Greener Hall, I'm Paul Brown. It's Minnesota
and Wisconsin, eight thirty two remaining in the first period.
The Badgers struck first at four one of the period
(34:58):
Layla edwards their twenty seventh goal of the year, Harvey
the assist, and twenty four seconds later Wisconsin made it
two to nothing on Eden's twentieth goal of the year,
and Hubert came back from Minnesota nine to twenty five
to cut the deficit to two to one. That's where
we stand now. Come up Byce and right comes in
(35:19):
over the line and right drive. When wade of the net,
it's held in by Harvey. Harvey moving the puck over
to Jungles. Jungles angles it off the boards and right
down on the corner in behind the net was Nevitch
along with Picard out for the Badgers, and it's going
to be paid played back to the Badger blueline picked up.
Harvey comes in over the line on the pass back
(35:40):
ender Picard with a turn tried to center. It was
Nevich over to Harvey, Harvey pulls up with a drive
and that went high and wide and whistle and play
is going to be stopped.
Speaker 11 (35:52):
A lot of golphers stacked up there in front of
the trees there in the slot.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Tough to get it through. That's the block, shot up
and out of the ring. Base on will come up
back in the Minnesota zone. In the first period. The
Badgers have outscored their opponents fifty eight to twelve on
the year, the Badgers with one hundred and sixty two goals.
They've allowed thirty four. There's a drive and Gorbatanco in front.
(36:18):
The puck went away from her those she couldn't get
a stick on.
Speaker 11 (36:20):
It enough redirects there. I didn't know it was going
to find its way in.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Maybe around on the far side of Minnesota, trying to
pinch and play it down. Badgers in their own zone
look to bring it out with Gorbatanco light in over
the line, chasing it. Eden down on the corner on
the left side, pulls up, works the backside wing and
there's a drive and that went up against the Natigan.
Play is going to be stopped, you know, Paul, I
(36:44):
don't think you could find two players that work harder
than Eden and O'Brien water their feet never stopped moving. Yep, Bob.
A nice interview with O'Brien. Awesome Casey the captain of
the Badgers talking about her career Obi. And one of
the other intermission we will have Mark Johnson talking about
all six of the seniors. He talks about an individual
(37:05):
that's that's wonderful and coming over to try and pick
it up and Gorbatank or pardon me, Katilowski the Badger's
right out at front, O'Brien, Simms and Edwards out and
controlling the puck. It's moving ground on the left side
over the jungles, jungles with it, plays it around to Edwards,
Dack down in the corner over to O'Brien. Adam Minnesota
(37:27):
is going to turn and bring it out. They move
it up ice, Lindsey comes in over the line. Milan
Kobu out on that line with Hemp and Lindsey and
the Badgers will turn and they work it up Ice
on the put in over the line with it as
Leila Edwards pulls up at the airpoint, try to cycle
it in the corner intended for O'Brien or Sims, Harvey
(37:47):
comes in and holds the zone, lay deep on the
far side over to try and pick it up. The
Gophers with it, and they'll move it out of their
own zone through center ice, and it's going to be
driven by Lindsey in on mc naunton. Wisconsin turns and
back they come, and they'll work it up the wing
on the near side, playing the neutral zone. Harvey's skating
(38:09):
back over to control it. Harvey shuffles it around on
the far side Wisconsin, Venusio with it, angles it around
the boards. It comes to near wings, Minnesota for checking
in the Badger's zone, trying to hold Wisconsin there. Back
is loose, picked up by Harvey, Harvey slides it across
and Badger's regroup. They'll carry it through center ice. Eden
(38:31):
with it, trying to chase it down as Gorbatenko along
the back wall dug out by Eden comes over to
Venusio can't handle the pass. Got to back it out
and clear the zone with it. Harvey on the wing
Badger's Cassie Hall intended for Eden and played away from her.
Minnesota turns and they come to center ice. Badgers will
(38:51):
dump it back into the line eating on the near side,
trying to control it along with Cassie Hall played around
back in behind the net, down on the corner, over
the Hall to pick it up, shovels it along the
back wall. McCarthy overskated the buck and turning in. Minnesota
will turn and try to come out on the zone.
They go to the blue line of the Badgers where
(39:11):
it's played in on Ava McNaughton and chasing the puck.
It was Connor Connor along with Huber and Murphy out
of the ies. Badgers work it through McCarthy trying to
play it away from Raham there Badgers down in the corner.
Scandal holds his zone back over to Potter. Potter comes
around on the left side. Wisconsin works it to the point.
(39:33):
Botter with it across ice, around on the boards on
the paths over the Jungles back in behind the net,
and Wisconsin tries to work it loose, but it's the
Gophers who play it to center eyes four thirty four
forty three remaining in the first period two to one.
Wisconsin play along the boards, Jungles down in the corner,
(39:53):
Scandal over to pick it up, Jungles dug it out.
Jungles carries it behind the net. Gets trying to get
some help on the play from Helberson, but it's gonna
be turned away and this is Abby Murphy, Abby coming up.
Bis played it to the Wisconsin line. Badgers break that
up two to one. Badger shots are eight to four.
Wisconsin comes in over the line. Helberson off. There's a
(40:16):
shot by and why fired by Scandal. She's got a
nice freshman year going with ten goals. Yeah, and it's
gonna be played back in over the Wisconsin line. Wisconsin
will turn and Scandal will jump it down on the
corner on the left side. The Gophers go back of
it to pick it up Minnesota in their own zone.
No I was tipped away by per Card as she
(40:38):
held the zone. The Gophers are pressured, Badgers hold his
zone and per Card with a drive was Nevitch picked
it up down in the corner was Nevichen. Per Card
dug out to the point on the play over the
venusio over to Harvey. Harvey moving it around back over
the venusio, shot right off Bock rebound gets the goal.
(41:04):
Hur eighth goal of there with jus leads it quite
a one.
Speaker 11 (41:10):
What a great goal there, just a bomb from the
right point from Venuzio. Initially the goalie makes us save.
There's a rebound to work with a couple of whacks
at it, and eventually Picard banged it home. Great heaven
people right on the net, right in the blue pain
practically and the hard shot from the point that originated
that whole play.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Beautiful goal sixteen twenty eight. The time of the goal
where the Badgers get it call and a three to
one score and the eighth goal of the year. Four
Poocard and wisconcert with it. They work it around on
the far side over to Edwards, slips it down on
the corner on the left. Gobrian comes in on the
fore check along with Sim's trying to hold his own.
(41:51):
They do. They pick it up on the left side,
back over to Edwards, back out on top on the pass,
it comes to Jungles, Jungles on the play over to
a Brian behind it, ad over to Sims centered and
it's gonna be cleared from in front of the that
Gophers turn. They'll carry it out over to center ice
and drive it back down on the Wisconsin zone. With
two fifty seven are remitting in the period. Wisconsin comes
(42:14):
out of their own zone. Controlling the puck. They slide
it to O'Brien at center ice and she lost it
at the blue line, but it's picked up and driven
in Wisconsin will change up two forty two remeding in
a period coming up by near wing, Minnesota down by
a couple of goals, carry it in over the Wisconsin line. Hubert,
Murphy and Connor are out for the Gophers, right out
(42:37):
Old Troy. They try to center. It's gonna be cleared
by Aver McNaughton. Whoa that one got a little hairy
thore too close for comfort.
Speaker 11 (42:47):
Yah hey man right there in the doorstep free puck
and a Gopher picks it up and Ave was there
to shut the Doorznevitch picked up.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
One assister eleventh of the year and got an assist
her eleventh of the year on that last goal. Five
on five, Badgers leading shots eleven to five. They lead
in the game at three to one, and that was
great seeing the Nuzio sea bomb boy, she worked so hard, yep,
(43:18):
and coming over to try and pick it up to
play in the neutral zone. It's going to be gloved
and knocked down by Casso bowl and Wisconsin comes back
into the line, and there it's held by Bnusio. Banusio
and Potter paired defensively. Bonusio right on, and it's getting
up by Clerk and to play in the neutral zone.
(43:41):
Badgers hold it in. They'll play it down to the corner.
It goes around over to Weedon eating with it goes
back to the point on the pass and Potter will
skate back for the Badgers to set it up one
remitting in the period play in the neutral zone. The
Badgers go back over to pick it up. Oh, and
they have covered up in their own zone, got away
(44:02):
from Waz. They're just a few beat from our own goal.
Harvey has tied the school record for points by a
defenseman in the season with forty four. I'm just curious
who who she tied with right there? Who shot it
up with thereon? There we go.
Speaker 11 (44:20):
Now that one goes back a while one and she
just got inducted into the UW Sports Hall of Fame
last summer. That's nice, Nicholson, Did I think thanks for
the note there, mister Seatoff, helping.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
Us out here coming on and controlling get coming in
over the line and the Badgers turn and they'll fire
it and prit guard back in and get toward the goal.
One ten remedgan the period. Badgers with the two gold
cushion here as the golden Gophers, but coming back in
over the line. That's him. We'll we get in him
taken down and no officials on the whistle. We play continues.
(44:56):
Badgers had sent our eyes, lose control of the puck,
driven back down on the zone, coming over to pick
it up. Wisconsin through center ice with it as Sims
sims over to pick it up and turns around over
to Layley Edwards and she'll play it down in the corner.
Rolls in behind and over there is Moro to pick
it up. Badgers Sims on the fore check with Edwards
(45:18):
and O'Brien. Gophers handle the pressure. They move it up ice.
They come in over the line. Wefington lost control of
the puck coming back is pre Murano and it's going
to be played back down and deepen the zone in
the corner. Back goes Kotlowski around on the play over
to Bnusio. Gopher's show right on man white blank range
(45:40):
by Wethington is the blast banged it off the bats
of McNaughton and the play continues. With five seconds of
making the period back in over the line, Binusio with
a shot, the gloves saved at five less than a
second remaining in the period. Well, I tell you, Paul,
it's been an act in filled period, that's for sure.
Speaker 11 (46:02):
I tell you they're all what's your evaluation to play?
Just a great pace, a good effort by both teams,
and you know, just got to get the puck on
net as much as possible, O'Brien.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Id have to shoot this into the net? Yeah? Shoot there.
It is the end of the period and the Badgers
will stake to the locker room. The shots are thirteen
to seven, the edge to the Badgers. Goals by Edwards
or twenty, seventh by Eden or twentieth and by per
Card or eight that they lead Minnesota three to one
(46:42):
after a period. This is Wisconsin women's hockey.
Speaker 14 (46:48):

Speaker 5 (48:50):
Welcome back to the Levanter and everyone. The Badgers lead
the Minnesota Golden gopherst three to one in this quorder
battle and final regular season home stand for the Badgers
Senior Day, and what a day for these seniors. It
is three to one Wisconsin as we head to the
first intermission, and we are joined now by w CCHA
Commissioner Michelle McAteer, thanks so much for being with us.
Speaker 17 (49:10):
Thank you so much for having you.
Speaker 5 (49:12):
It's wonderful to have you. We had you very early
in the season. And this is, if I'm not mistaken,
this is your first season in the in the commissioner
role for the WCCHA. What a season that's been for
the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Speaker 18 (49:23):
Yeah, it's it's been unreal and I'm really excited to
be back this weekend because this is my first time experiencing.
Speaker 3 (49:27):
The border battle on this side of the border, and
it's delivering.
Speaker 18 (49:31):
I mean, the fans are are here and they're loud,
and they're excited, and it's you know, you know, two
of the top two of the top teams in the
country going.
Speaker 3 (49:39):
Out it so we can't get better.
Speaker 5 (49:40):
You and I were talking off air during the break
about how well the WCCHA is doing this season. Five
teams in the top fifteen, Wisconsin at number one, Minnesota
number three, Ohio State at number two, Delude at number six,
and Sincloud State at number eleven. That level of success,
I don't think there's any other conference than women's hockey
that enjoys.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
That level of success.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
Oh, I don't think so and and uh, it's been.
Speaker 18 (50:03):
Consistent all season and you know I say it a lot,
but it just continues to be true.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
You know, any team can beat.
Speaker 18 (50:09):
Anyone, and I think that's the strength of our league.
We have, you know, obviously the major stroud runners with
Restaontson in Minnesota and Ohio, but uh, you know every weekend,
you know, teams like Saint Thomas and Saint Cloud and
men Cato really force everyone to be on their toes
and play their best hockey.
Speaker 3 (50:27):
So it's it's iron sharp and iron in this league.
Speaker 18 (50:31):
And hopefully they'll play off in March for us.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
You mentioned as well off air we're talking.
Speaker 5 (50:35):
We're here at Lebonn, this beautiful purpose built arena that
women's hockey gets to enjoy here Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
You mentioned Saint Thomas has an.
Speaker 5 (50:41):
Arena, come in a lot of really wonderful facilities throughout
the league. And that's as someone who's been involved in
women's hockey for a long time seeing that develop as
has kind of been really rewarded.
Speaker 17 (50:51):
It's been exciting.
Speaker 18 (50:51):
Yeah, Saint Thomas, I toured their their construction site right now,
but there their rint goal open in the ballunteing to
be a beautiful elite facility for their men's in hockey
and basketball programs.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
And it's exciting for Saint Thomas. They just named their
head coach, you.
Speaker 18 (51:07):
Know, Bethany Grauson, a former golfer alum, and that's really
exciting that we now have five female head coaches in
our league. We have four alums who are now head
coaches in our league.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
So it is as a former player and a former.
Speaker 18 (51:21):
Coach in the WHA to see now women who played
are now part of the group that's leading.
Speaker 17 (51:29):
It is really exciting as well.
Speaker 5 (51:31):
One thing I've gotten to see since I've been at
all these games for the season part of the radio broadcast,
there are a lot of young kids here and especially
young girls, And I think as a fan, I just
didn't notice the composition of the crowd quite as much,
but sitting up here in the press box, you see
lots of little kids coming kind of the next generation
of hockey, and it feels like women's hockey has really
worked to build that up, especially on the girls side.
Speaker 3 (51:52):
Yeah, and I think the players recognize that.
Speaker 18 (51:54):
You see that Mela rec is handed pucks out after
warm ups and they're making a point to give knuckles
to all those young girls and young boys who are really.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
Looking looking up to them.
Speaker 18 (52:07):
And and they're helping grow the game. So it is
it's exciting that they are they're playing such a realite
level and they're really inspiring the next generation.
Speaker 5 (52:15):
One thing I wanted to talk about with that in
terms of the elite level, we have the p whl
HL now the Professional Women's Hockey League. That league has
gone to a style of play that is much more physical,
a lot more contact being allowed. In your role as commissioner,
I know you deal with officiating and decisions around how
the game will be called and talking about that, what's.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
That been like through the course of the season.
Speaker 5 (52:36):
What are those discussions been like an around contact penalties
all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 18 (52:40):
There's been some discussion, you know, if we have a
national coordinator, official data secretary, rules editor and the ones
who governed the rule book and you know, so they
have a lot more input in the direction that the
actual rules go. But as a league, I think we'll
really fee with the way that the game is being
play now. It's it's it's physical, but it's not excessive.
(53:03):
It's and it's not we don't want it to be dangerous.
We don't want to get to a situation where we
have open ice hitting.
Speaker 17 (53:09):
I think that's that's.
Speaker 18 (53:10):
Been a little problematic at that level where you know,
these players aren't growing out with body contact and.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
So the introduce would be a danger major adjustment. So
player safety is number one that as a league and
as coaches and officials we all put agree on.
Speaker 18 (53:29):
So we like that we played top in the w CJ.
We that we like that it's physical, but we don't
want it to be dangerous.
Speaker 5 (53:36):
We've gotten to see some of the interesting rule variations
that are newer to hockey, newer being in the last
ten or twenty years. But one thing I've seen a
couple of times this season that I've always enjoyed, but
I wonder what your take on it is the three
on three overtime. I feel like the ice opens up,
the game becomes almost crazy, as you know, the puck
flies up and down, players ot skater rushes.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
You know, everything like that. How do you feel about that?
Speaker 5 (53:57):
Having played through a lot of different versions over time
over the course of your time in POP, it's a.
Speaker 18 (54:02):
Lot of fun, it's exciting. It really showcases teams and
players will give a lot of skill, we can handle
the pop and can control it. So I think it's
really entertaining. I think the players love it, and I
think you know you want you want you play overtime
to get a result, so and it generally produces one,
(54:23):
So you know, I think it's.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
It's been a good thing.
Speaker 18 (54:25):
But I don't think we definitely.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Want to see that in playoffs.
Speaker 18 (54:28):
I think we all would rather see things be decided,
you know, five on five when it gets down to
the playoffs at NCAATERNMS.
Speaker 5 (54:36):
Then that was the second thing I was going to
ask you. I know shootouts are controversial amongst hockey fans.
There's a contingent that loves them. I think they're strankly
a larger contingent that does not. I enjoy them, but
we've seen a couple with the Badgers. But yeah, in
terms of that regular season versus playoff distinction, what's your
feel about shootouts generally and then over the course of
the competition.
Speaker 18 (54:54):
Yeah, shootouts are exciting for fans, but for for when
you have a stake in the game, it's only a
good thing the team.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
But then it'll be up in Duluth for the for
the final face off, tell us all about the purpose.
Speaker 18 (55:05):
So are three three teams of clinched hole ice with Wisconsin,
Minnesota and Ohio clinching and uh and then there's one
more home home up for grabs this which should be
settled too. And then the winners of the play semi
final games on cars ourch eight and by the best.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
So you know, in some ways our w c could be.
Speaker 18 (55:23):
A better tournament than the n CUAA tournament because of
the quality of teams that are that are in our league.
So you know, we certainly hope our fans will will
make the trip and and we know that they won't
be disappointed because Daluth is a great it can be
a great host.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
They're they're super excited. But uh, you know you'll you'll.
Speaker 18 (55:40):
Get to see four of the the best teams of
the w c J battling out for that automatic bits
and the NA tournament.
Speaker 5 (55:46):
Well, and finally we talked about you being the commissioner
and the ditrussers of the playoffs and where the w
c h A is relative to the other leagues. Is
there a little bit of bragging rights for you that
you're gonna definitely put a number of your teams into
the n C doubale A playoffs.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
They talk by the other.
Speaker 18 (56:00):
Commissioners absolutely, and you know there's a lot of fumble brags,
but I think it's you know, the league speaks for itself,
the team speaks for themselves, and it's, uh, you know,
everyone knows this is this is where. This is the
best collegiate hockey uh at the Division one level.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
And and we're proud of that. And I'm happy to
brag about that because these players, these coaches, you know,
they they deserve it. And so you know, I hope
we can. I hope there will be an all w
c a J Final four. That would be incredible. So yeah,
I'm certainly.
Speaker 18 (56:35):
Optimistic that we're gonna earn a good number of bids
and and and they all can be a threat once
that turned out begins.
Speaker 5 (56:43):
All righty Well, Commissioner of the w C a J

Speaker 5 (58:57):
Welcome Beckful of Bothering to everyone. In the first sooner mentioned,
the Badgers lead the go first three to one in
this battle of number one Wisconsin versus Number three Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (59:06):
My name is Zach Sieloff. It's great to be here
with you.
Speaker 5 (59:08):
We're here with Paul Brown as we have about two
minutes to go before we dropped the puck on the
second period. The Badger's scoring three times in that first period.
As I mentioned. First, at four to oh one in
the first period, Laila Edwards, I'm an assist from Carolyn
Harvey getting the even strength goal five on five, the
Badgers led one to nothing. Just twenty four seconds later,
at four to twenty five in the first period, it
(59:28):
was Lacey Eden Strung on a breakaway. Some defensive zone
passing between Kelly Gorbtenko and Vivian Jungles get the lead
pass out to Lacey Eden at the Minnesota blue line.
She beats the defender and then beats the goaltender to
get the score. Twenty four seconds and the Badgers had
a two to nothing lead. But at nine to twenty
five in the first period, Minnesota struck back and it
(59:50):
was number twenty six Ela Hubert, one of their captains,
with assists from Sydney Morrow as well as Chloe Primarona
to get the goal and make it two to one.
Then at sixteen twenty eight in the first period the
net mouse scramble. Marianne Piccard got the score after the
puck was fired in by Venusio with an assist as
well from.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
Carolyn Harvey that made a three to one And.
Speaker 5 (01:00:10):
That assist from Carolyn Harvey was her forty ninth point
of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
That ties Megan.
Speaker 5 (01:00:15):
Michelson's single season record for a Badger defender with forty
nine to one more and she will take sole possession
of that record. In addition, with her next point, she
will tie second place all time for defenders with Sis
Paulson one hundred and twenty four points.
Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
In Sis Paulson's.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
Career one hundred and twenty three Currently for Carolyn Harvey,
the Badgers are hitting the ice.
Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Coach Greenhall is year.
Speaker 5 (01:00:37):
I'm going to turn you over to him and Paul
Brown for the second period. It's Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey
on Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
Thank you, Jack, and we're running for the second period
to get on her way here and Wisconsin against the
Minnesota Golden Gopher jar fifteen five and four in their
last twenty four games. They won the last siction in
a row. So despite the fact in the overall series
between the two teams, the Gophers have the edge. Recently,
(01:01:07):
Wisconsin has had great success against Minnesota Greeny. Yeah. Down
in the locker room, the discussion was.
Speaker 11 (01:01:13):
What, well, primarily, don't get caught in the gray zone here,
like right around the blue line, if you know, if
you don't have anything to dump it in deep, force
them to play uphill, get it down behind their goal.
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
What was the environment like down there? I'm curious after
the kind of performance that got in the first period.
Speaker 11 (01:01:30):
Pretty good energy, you know, is that pretty good energy?
Speaker 2 (01:01:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:01:32):
We were going to be without the services of Ava Murphy.
Uh her, I think, I don't know what her stomach
or something is bothering her, but she'll be out of
the lineup. So for the balance of the day, I believe,
so that, you know, we'll have to make up that
difference there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
That was something we didn't plan on, you know, all right, Yeah,
just bluing you in there on that little change and
coming on ice on the near side. It's going to
be played back down on the corner, right, but defensive
eight paired with we got Potter, so we'll see what
happens there on that back over to try and set
(01:02:08):
it up. The buck is loosen the neutral zone. The
Badgers turn and out they come with it as sims
and over the line intended for O'Brien and Wisconsin sets
it up edwards with the drive comes around the far
side over the Jungles. Jungles carries it behind at fired
it up in front, but it was deflected to the nearboards.
(01:02:29):
Jungles holding it in. Jungles playter high school hockey up
in the dynam Minnesota breaks it up and they'll come
up ice. They'll come in over the line, coming in
off the wing, trying to get off. A drive was
steered away from Abby Murphy great te by Harvey on
Murphy and coming back over two premiere players Jolly Chockey
(01:02:49):
and Abby Murphy and Lewards Ronald the far side, coming
over the control of Jungles, turns out towards center eyes
light in an with it, dumps it back down in
the corner over to control it. It's Harvey with it
around the far side of the break. Wisconsin will turn.
Jungles are partner on defense Harvey and then she'll get
(01:03:12):
the puck, flips it around on the boards, trying to
break it out of Minnesota at the right point, holding
it in it's taken away. Cassie Hall trying to pick
it up and coming over as Gorbatanko. Gopher's turn and
with it they control it. Coming back in over the
line on the left side is Milan Kobu lays it
back in behind. Harvey flips it around of the breakout,
(01:03:34):
Wisconsin moving it up. I Seeden trying to skate it
down Aiden chasing it, but we'll have an icing called
against the Badgers drawing the face off in the Wisconsin zone.
I was hoping that it tipped off of Eden's stick
there to negate this icing, but I guess not, and
the Gophers will look to come up with a couple
(01:03:55):
of goals that they need. They're down three to one
in the game. Badgers in the second period have outscored
their opponents fifty two to fourteen. Trying to win that
face off. Coming up is going to be Franco, who's
out with O'Hara and Wessington for Minnesota. Back defensively, it's
Kasabud and Graham. The officials over and we're going to
(01:04:18):
get set to play here, and the face off goes
to Potter. Potter flipping it around the wing, Badgers trying
to bring it out of their own zone. They'll play
it up the far boards and skating back over to
try and pick it up. Another icing will be called
and we'll have the face off coming up. What do
(01:04:39):
we got here with some people coming on or off?
Speaker 11 (01:04:42):
I think the officials are a little concerned with that too.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
Okay, everything's okay.
Speaker 11 (01:04:48):
Yeah, yeah, we have to face it off in our
defensive end to the left to Avin McNaughton.
Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
Here Gorbatanko out for the Badgers. Cassie Hall is out
along with Lacey Eden. Badgers added up Gorbatanko over to Eden,
who tipped it off her stick and then tried to
chase it down around on the far side. The Minnesota
works the far wing, the Badgers look to hold it in.
Look out, here's a three on two and over the
(01:05:13):
line controlling it as O'Hara shot, and that went into
the glove of Aba McNaughton. Then she covered up and
made the say good.
Speaker 11 (01:05:24):
Defensive playback there to force that go for to go wide.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
Badger basketball by the way down in Iowa City, Badgers
took it to the Hawk guys good. They beat them
by nine points, I believe seven or nine. I'm not sure,
but most importantly another win.
Speaker 11 (01:05:40):
Yeah, that's huge. It's not easy to win it down
there in Iowa City.
Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Well they handled them also in Madison. Yeah, face off
coming up to the left side and the draw just
inside the blueline. Minnesota turning, trying to set it up,
and they try to go off over to Hubert. It's
going to be turned away. That comes Edward. Edward skates
over the line, comes in on the wing, pulls up
on the right side. Tried a little give and go
(01:06:05):
to Potter, played back down in the corner, down the
play in behind Potter trying to hold it. Potter is
checked down her knees. Flip the puck around on the
far side. Gopher's turn. Edwards will hold the zone and
the past comes out of the zone. Badger's got to
chase it down and Venusio to Edwards to the blue
line of was a Minnesota tipped away by Edwards and
(01:06:28):
Edwards on the pass and over the line O'Brien, but
an off side between Sims and O'Brien.
Speaker 11 (01:06:34):
Yeah, the fuck kind of stuttered around the blue line there,
and Sims preceded it into the zone. I can't blame
her for that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
You know what, if the Badgers could get docked just
maybe one more, you feel a lot more comfortable for
that league championship. It'd be nice to get that next goal.
Paul was correct. You are correct, buddy. How many times
over your career have you heard, especially like from Bill Howard? Yeah,
bybe the next gold is a big one. Yeah, this
is a big goal, and he was usually right on. Yeah,
(01:07:03):
you got it right around on the far side, coming
back over to pick it up and control back over
to Harvey, played back down on the corner in behind
the ad around on the wing over to Kanlawski. They
will work the right side, both teams at full strength.
Bak is loose Minnesota's z own, Harvey over to pick
it up, shuffled it back and the play goes to
(01:07:24):
En right En ride down in the corner, Badgers trying
to maintain possession of the puck, and there's a drive
laid along the boards on the near side. Badgers have
won a lot of the loose scrambles for pucks in
this game very aggressively, some pretty aggressive fore check and
some good hustle moving the feet. Played back down in behind,
(01:07:45):
Harvey works it around the wing on the breakout. Wisconsin
coming on fise light in over the line and skating
back of it to pick it up. Is Casabad and
Minnesota turns. They come out of the zone that is
Consabad to the Gophers turn on the far side. There's
a drive it lode of the net comes all the
way around. Badgers will turn and they'll control it, moving
(01:08:09):
it up. Ice Scandal trying to pick it up in
the zone looking for help, and it's played deep in
behind Avia McNaughton who worked that big stick and fired
it out on the break. Wisconsin picks it up. Scandal
state center of the line. Scandal in the Minnesota zone
on the far wing or back around over to Halverson.
Alberson in the corner works it back out on top
(01:08:31):
on the far side, over the jungles in the corner
pass McCarthy picked up by Scandal. They work the wing
near side Badger's point on the right side. Potter holds
it in down She went yep and no penalty call.
Speaker 11 (01:08:47):
Still playing live.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
I saw another player go down too, and back in behind,
comes around back over to McCarthy, back to the point
on the play over the jungles on the right side
of the Potter, they try to go back horse.
Speaker 4 (01:09:02):
Store by channel.
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
Scannel gets her eleventh. The Badger's laid at portal one.
Speaker 11 (01:09:11):
That was great to see her make that pass through
the slot diagonally.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Call it the scandal banged in on the back door
on what would be the right side.
Speaker 11 (01:09:20):
Oh, just a great puck movement there. We stayed with it,
keeping it down in our offensive end. Make him play
up here, all right, Paul?
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
You bet? And how about that? In a big game
like this, the freshman line comes through. Uh, they worked hard.
Alverson ono a Diyna, Minnesota. Another freshman, Maggie Scannal. Wow,
she's from out.
Speaker 22 (01:09:50):
In New York.
Speaker 4 (01:09:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
And uh, then you got Finley McCarthy who's from Whitefish, Montana.
Speaker 4 (01:09:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
So good hus Man, Minnesota and Montana on that goal,
covering the whole United States here, way back down on
the corner on the fire side. Fourteen forty nine remitting
four to one, Badgers one point wins the champions.
Speaker 4 (01:10:15):
Shot and a ball out.
Speaker 11 (01:10:17):
Did that stay out?
Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
They had Gorbatanco trying to backhand it into an open net.
Speaker 11 (01:10:22):
Out Did that stay out? I don't know who took
the initial shot, but it was a nice hard one.
And then Gorbel was on the doorstep give it a
backhand back, but Clark was there to shut the door.
Hannah Clark and net for the Minnesota Golfers.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
Minnesota has six games left after this or including they
have two more additional games than the Badgers have to play.
They will have four left after this weekend series. The
Badgers only have two games left after this weekend. They're
off next weekend and then they wind up the season
(01:10:56):
in Bimdji, Minnesota. But all they need is one point
to clinch the championship. That's the equivalency of one tie
in their last four games to win the league title
and the regular season titles. For Mark Johnson and his staff,
this would be number ten of his career. We're getting
(01:11:18):
ahead of ourselves and that thought, but just overall making
the point. That's all they need is one point in
their last two weekends of competition. So it's in within reach.
You're saying, yeah, it's a struggle.
Speaker 23 (01:11:31):
But they may get there.
Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
We hope to get with this team. That would be
unbelievable if they didn't get a point. And they got
three goal lead in this one, so all is good,
but let's hope it continues for the rest of the game.
Laid back down on the corner on the far side,
round over to pick it up outam Minnesota will turn
and out if they come and back in of the line,
(01:11:54):
controlling it down in the corner. Pulling up on the
play was Lindsey back in behind its hemp from Minnesota
looking to help out his milling kobu, milling kobu. She's
out of the Czech Republic and it comes back over
on the wing on the near side over the try
and pick it up, and there's a drive and played
on the along the back wall, moving it right out
(01:12:17):
in fox shot right on there. Man.
Speaker 11 (01:12:20):
She did a wrap around right and tight.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
Yeah, she serily did, Lindsey, and nobody picked her up.
She worked it around on the far side and it's
going to be controlled by Edwards. Edward's in over the
Minnesota line. Played back down in the corner Badgers and
the Gopher's full strength around the far side over to Sims.
Sim's controlling the puck. Banks it off the boards over
to Edwards, who fired it back to the point on
(01:12:44):
the plate to Potter. They come over to Venusio back
out on top with it. Potter with a drive and
that went off the glass in the corner. Wisconsin trying
to hold his own Edwards with it, moving it in
shut with her second goal of the game or over
the year, and was catching laidsit now five one.
Speaker 11 (01:13:10):
What a shot by Edwards. She comes around the top
of the left circle. She the right hander, took her time,
saw what nut she had. We whistled a rocket wrist
shot in for fourth goal of the game or fifth
excuse me, great shot by Leila Edwards and.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
A timeout has been called. We'll take a break. This
is Wisconsin Badger Hockey.
Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
Hi.
Speaker 13 (01:13:36):
I'm Brandon with Genesis X Tiers. Like our great hockey players,
our energy efficient windows, durable siding and strong roofs are

better materials, a stronger warranty, Genesis X Tiers.
Speaker 12 (01:13:50):
Life has its moments, times to remember and share. Make
the most of those special occasions by visiting Goodman Steelers
at two twenty State Stream. We're here to help and
make that perfect selection.
Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
The best is that Galva wasn't on the ice. No,
We're back here at Lebon Arena where Wisconsin has taken
a five to one lead over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
(01:14:26):
Here and we're at the thirteen oh two mark of
the second period. Leile Edwards exactly was that career high
for points now, Leilea Edwards just set a new high
for career points. And she's got two goals now today
and twenty eight on the year, and in total points
(01:14:46):
she's got fifty seven. She's a great player, that young lady.
Speaker 11 (01:14:52):
Hey, when she hits the net, that was a perfect
example of it. She can fill the net because her
shot no goalie can catch up with it. It's set
in the right spot, six.
Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
Feet tall, a lot of Columbia Heights, Ohio. The rocket
ristshot coming over to try and pick it up and
coming back down on the Badgers zone is Venusio back
around on the play back of it to Potter. Potter
works the wing on the near side, coming over trying
to pick it up. There's a backhander by Hubert gathering
it in and play is going to be stopped. Dad,
(01:15:21):
we'll have a face off coming up. I think they've
changed the assist now. They hadn't went up for Abra Murphy,
but now I think they're good to Potter. That makes sense.
That's the nineteenth assist of the year for Potter, and
(01:15:42):
Sim's getting an assist on the goal her thirty fourth
of the year.
Speaker 11 (01:15:48):
Casey hallwins a drawway to go and.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
It comes back to the point and trying to get
off a backhander. Wisconsin will move it out of their
own zone. Gophers with twenty two wins on the ear
and trying to play it comes in over the line
to eating with a drive and she ripped it one
of that she gave a tank over to try and
control it. Five or four different Badgers have scored. Leila
(01:16:12):
Edwards has two, Eden has won, and Picard has won
and Soda Scannal all scoring in this game here this afternoon,
same two teams tomorrow at noon. Back over the jungles
with a drive and it comes back all the way
in the Wisconsin zone. Shots on goal or twenty ten
(01:16:35):
the Badgers with the lead. They average almost forty shots
a game throughout the year. There's a drive, but it's
going to be kicked out and Minnesota comes back in
of the line, controlling it on the wing and moving
it in morel with it five and that went wide.
Hamp over to pick it up Badgers back along their
own boards trying to control it. Wisconsin backhands it out
(01:16:58):
on the break. They'll move it up ice and dump
it down in the corner, chasing it down and Wisconsin
out with McCarthy along with Scannal and Helberson the freshman
line along the boards on the near side and controlling it.
Here Scandal moving it in backhander just wide. She just
went for the upper corner on the backhander and just
(01:17:19):
above the net in a little wide laid back down
in the corner and coming back is Venusio. She shuffled
along the boards on the near side, and Wisconsin skating
out with it as Scannal Scandal comes in over the
Minnesota line off on the plate of McCarthy. McCarthy working
the wing, played down on the corner on the right side.
(01:17:39):
Ten minutes forty seven seconds remaining in the second period,
five one Wisconsin. Here's Venusio getting control of the puck
in the corner on the far side of the Minnesota zone,
coming over to help out his in right for card
taking a look. Can one of the three jam it
out They do to Potter on top. It goes to Harvey.
(01:18:02):
Harvey little give and go around on the far side.
Harvey gets the puck, moving it in with a drive
and that's blocked. Badgers hold the zone. Comes back over,
there's a shot bucked it in and out of the
glove of the goaltender. Lay behind it at Minnesota looking
to try and get it out of the zone. Badgers
hold it in. Good job. They control it with it
(01:18:24):
as Harvey up on the wing on the right side
of the potter in front slid right through the crease
down to Minnesota. They blow the whistle and stop the action.
Speaker 11 (01:18:34):
That line really worked hard and created a lot of
situations for us here. Good ones at that wise and card, We're.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
Gonna take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.

Up here we go, I hobe he's going to take
the draw.
Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Is talking about Casey O'Brien, who will be one of
our guests tomorrow afternoon on our broadcast. During the intermission
the other intermission, Mark Johnson I did a special interview
with him that will air and he talks about all
six of the seniors talks about him individually and the
contributions they've made to the program. Coming back into the
(01:20:38):
line and setting it up and control to get the
Tarvey down to the corner of the right side. Harvey
shuffles it in behind the that badger down, goes headwards,
Jungles holds it in and it's going to be played
back down along the boards on the far side. And
during our second intermission today we are going to talk
with Leslie Johnson.
Speaker 11 (01:20:59):
Oh wow about the horse rant. Yeah, a goffy ranch.
Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
We're not gonna what what do you call it? It's
called a goffy ranch and moving it in. There's a
shot just why of the goal. It's a long time
dream of Leslie's and it's gonna be uh apparently ready
to go next summer. Setting it up and we might
talk a little hockey, but we're also going to talk
about horses. Be on a hockey brud.
Speaker 11 (01:21:24):
We're a well well rounded group here.
Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
Coming back over his Harvey to set it up back
in over the line with it as edwards back over
to Harvey, shot right on and it's played along the boards.
Oh and there's a check man and taking Harvey down
was that check throwing by who I think it was,
(01:21:49):
and it's yeah, surprise, surprise around on the far side
we're talking about Abby Murphy and Wisconsin over to try
and set it up and control it back out on top,
over to Kowlowski, laid back in behind the at around
over to Gorbatanko. On the play, there's a drive and
(01:22:09):
that was deflected one of the goal around trying to
control it and to play along the boards. Wisconsin over
to try and set it up, laid back down in
the corner and whistle and play is going to be stopped.
Eight minutes in one second remaining here in the second
(01:22:29):
period of play. The Badgers put up three in the
first period, two more here in the second period, and
the face off will come up to the left side
of Hannah Clark back in the Minnesota's own out his
haul for the Badgers, Eden is out, Gorbatanco is out
(01:22:50):
and back. Defensively, it's Venusio and Kotlowski the Badgers playing
with five defense because Ava McNaughton a little under the weather. Murphy,
I'm sorry, yeah, yeah, not mixing. You can mix up
Davis pretty easily, but we don't want mcnonton out of
the game all time, No going back over to control
it back in behind Wisconsin over to set it up.
(01:23:13):
They come on the wing on the near side, controlling
get Aiden comes in over the line, played over the
gore batanko Aiden tried to skate it down. Aiden comes
around on the wing on the far side. Badgers look
to set it up. There's a drive and nice saved
by the goaltender. Panta.
Speaker 11 (01:23:28):
Clark love that one nice shot.
Speaker 2 (01:23:33):
Face off face not the same as the first period,
but not bad. Huh. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:23:38):
You know, when you have that interview with Mark about
the six seniors, I think you're gonna probably discovered or
it's already known, but just what good people they are,
and they air hockey ability.
Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
Coming back to set it up and control and around
on the far side over the jungles played back down
in the corner and a couple of them on the seniors.
They could come back for another year potentially. Eden is
one of them, and what she's going to explore her options. Yeah,
there's no doubt about that. And now they have that
(01:24:10):
pro league.
Speaker 11 (01:24:11):
You know some of them consider although these girls don't
major in basket weaven, they're pretty good students.
Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
Also around on the far side coming up ice. Minnesota
down five to one in the game and play in
the neutral zone. Chase back down in the corner and
over to try and pick it up. The play comes
to the point Minnesota with it, regroups, comes up Ice.
They come in over the line and a nice drop
path from him shot went in behind Aba McNaughton. Around
(01:24:40):
on the far side, over the jungles out of the break.
Wisconsin turns and up ice, McCarthy skating it over the line.
McCarthy with a puck turned and tried to one arm
a tour to that. Gophers back and they have a
little trouble getting it out of their own zone. Around
on the far side, Badgers hold it in, comes over.
There's Harvey with it. Harvey sticking it with a puck,
(01:25:02):
trying to get off the drive. Play it Harvey along
the wing trying to control it. Minnesota will break it
out down to moving it through neutral ice. It's going
to be backhanded in on Ava McNaughton and she'll glove
it and stop the player.
Speaker 11 (01:25:18):
We're doing a good job, Paul, of courcing them to
play in their own end for a good chunk of
this period, you know, like market, hope and four checking
just getting it in deep and coming up with the
buck and making stuff happen.
Speaker 2 (01:25:30):
In the rankings, Wisconsin has been number one all season long.
Ohio State is still number two, Minnesota number three, the
top three teams in the rankings from the WCCHA. Then
it's Cornell and Colgate out east. Both of those clubs
have got twenty two wins and six losses. Those are
(01:25:50):
the top five in the rankings. As you get near
the end of the regular season, then you start thinking
playoffs and pairings and those kinds of things. Played back
in the neutral zone over to pick it up and
going back over Wisconsin trying to pick take it away
from Minnesota, but coming in over the line, Wethington with
it for the drive that one hit the side of
(01:26:12):
the net. The Badgers will clear and they come up
ice in the neutral zone with it. Venusia and the
rush carries it in over the line one against four,
tried to shuffle it back to the point and the
Minnesota regroups. They turn and come back into the Wisconsin line.
And that was taking off the stick there of Murphy
(01:26:32):
and Murphy can escape, I'll tell you, yeah, she can
really motor. She's a fascinator and it's Sims where it
comes in over the line on the drop over to
a Bryant show my own line. She hit the upper
corner of the NPT or nineteenth of the air and
(01:26:55):
it's now sick one Wisconsin.
Speaker 11 (01:27:00):
That was arguably the most beautiful goal I've ever seen.
She's a left hander, she's.
Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
Coming down the right wing.
Speaker 11 (01:27:07):
She whips a rock a frist shot far side, just
inside the corner to score the sixth goal of the game.
What a great shot by Casey O'Brien.
Speaker 2 (01:27:17):
Another assist for Sims or second of the game and
thirty fifth of the year. Man, what a beautiful goal.
Who I love it? Sending a message to the quarter
battle opponent. Yeah, coming over to set it up here
in a six to one game in the second period
(01:27:38):
and play down to the corner back of the Cassie
Hall around on the far side. Eden over to try
and pick it up. Gorbatenko is there four forty three remaining.
I would think this score around the league, a few
people are going to be no, whoa, whoa, what's Oh
there's a collision there. We got somebody down. I think
(01:27:59):
it's pottered. Yeah, coming over to try and pick it
up the official. Let's see if they called anything.
Speaker 11 (01:28:05):
She's on her skates now, Paul, but she's slowly bent
over here and taking her time to go to the bench.
She's going right down the hallway there with the trainer
right now. That's Potter.
Speaker 2 (01:28:17):
That wow, that would be a big lots. She has
had a tremendous sophomore season.
Speaker 11 (01:28:22):
Yeah, I hope she's all right, You know, Paul did.
Last time we played him up there, we won five
over the first game and the next day we were down
three to up that we came back to win.
Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
Four to three. So you just never know exactly. Yeah,
it's going to be played back in on McNaughton. Who
will knock it down and plays it around over behind
the at it's Harvey where it played it up the
boards on the near side and coming through centaur eyes
and picking it up. Gorbatanco try to come off the
wing over to control it. Play on the near boards,
(01:28:56):
Badgers around on the far side, jungles with it, fired
it into the glove of the goaltender. That's Clark bad
We'll have a face off coming out. Badgers are going
to change up a bit here. Yeah, get the last
change six one Wisconsin.
Speaker 11 (01:29:16):
It'll be interesting to see Paul if Potter comes back
to play within the period here, the trainer is gone,
yeah yeah, and occupied with Potter right now, I believe,
face off and off the boards on the far side
over the try and control the.
Speaker 2 (01:29:31):
Badgers at the point it's going to be played. Whistle
and went up out of play here down to three
point fifty five or menic in the period, So.
Speaker 11 (01:29:42):
We're gonna have to see a few extra minutes out
of some of these other defensemen. And so far forward
they've been answering the call real well from kott Lewski
and Venuzio and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (01:29:51):
If they were concerned, I'm not saying they were, but
if there was any concern about how the Badgers were
going to play today, you can put with that one
to yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:30:01):
The depth is paying off for a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
No doubt. Three minutes forty seven seconds are manning. Badgers
will be off next weekend. Then they'll finish up the
season up in the midge later around the boards in
the far side, and then of course they'll get ready
for the first round of the playoffs, which they will
host obviously. Yeah, we'll have a face off coming up.
(01:30:23):
You know, if you've noticed, Bamidge's games are tighter regardless
of their opponent. They're getting better and better as the
season goes on. So but the Badgers, they're they're gonna
they've been number one all year in terms of the
rankings and stuff. I would think they'll obviously host I
would think, don't you No, I think you are correct.
And the final five face off will be in Duluth
(01:30:45):
this year. Normally it's that Ritter in the Twin Cities,
but Ritter is not available, so this year the final
five will be back up.
Speaker 11 (01:30:52):
Where we were last weekend. And that's a nice rink.
Speaker 2 (01:30:55):
Yeah it is, Yeah, it is nice, nice facility. And
then of course the Frozen four there's an advantage there.
If the Gophers could make it, it'd be in their
own building.
Speaker 11 (01:31:08):
Yeah, it isn't Ritter, you know, this year in Minneapolis.
Speaker 2 (01:31:11):
Back over to set it up, three oh five are
manning in the period, played back down on the corner,
going back in behind over to control it. Worked around
the boards on the far side, and Wisconsin will break
it out. Here's Venusio one against two comes in and
on the left look wrong. Venusio with the puck, played
it behind the net. Nobody there but a gopher for
(01:31:31):
Minnesota turning and trying to bring it out. Was Nicholson
and play gets in. Her eyes picked up and Sims
turned and back comes Minnesota. That's Hubert in over the
line and Hubert shot into the glove of Ava McNaughton.
We haven't heard a lot about Abby Murphy.
Speaker 11 (01:31:49):
In those games, No, we really haven't. And I'll level
with you. I thought, you know, she might get some
points on the boards.
Speaker 2 (01:31:55):
She still could.
Speaker 11 (01:31:56):
Yeah, she's just a fast player every shift and she
logs a lot of minutes diffic two.
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
She's their top spur with fifty points. She's also third
in the country averaging one point seven point two points
per game. She's a heck of a player. Ella Hubert
trying to win the face off, and with it is
Abby Murphy along the boards on the near side and
trying to play it away, moving it in. Connor with
(01:32:22):
it back in or kick out. Nice saved. The Badgers
come out of their own zone, coming up by O'Brien
comes in over the line, off on the wing, trying
to move it in. A shot and a collision goaltender
bumped into her own goal. Action continues. Gophers carry it
back into the line. They move it in trying to
get off a back end or kicked away. Baba McNaughton
(01:32:45):
off on the drive from Primorano and set up and
controlled with it as Moral more around on the far side.
Minnesota setting it up. They try to move it around
Moral with a shot in traffic and Harvey takes it away.
Here's Harvey moving it up. I slides it on the
brake intended for Sims. Sims cuts in over the line,
(01:33:07):
back on the plate of Edwards went off the back
of her skate. Wisconsin controls Kotlowski and over the line.
Then corbdenko keed it up. Couldn't get off of solid drive.
Badgers hold the zone. They control it on the right side,
plays it deep in the zone and Cassie Hall around
in behind to Eden. Eden try to come back out
(01:33:28):
on top. Badgers hold his zone, but Osio tipped in
the corner to Eden. Eden centered it nobody home for Wisconsin,
turned away by himp Hams pass ahead coming in over
the line in Minnesota with it and it went off
the stick there of Milan Kovu around on the far side.
One minute remaining in the period. Badger's up six to
(01:33:51):
one in the game. As we close it out here
in the end of the second, and it's played in
the corner over to try and pick it up. Badger's
back around the board, over to try and control it,
moving it up ice and the play over the line
and with it is eating eating, with it down in
the corner on the near side, thirty five seconds remitting
(01:34:11):
in the period. Harvey with it, Harvey down in the corner,
tried to center it around the boards. Harvey in the
corner over to pick it up. Harvey works the wing.
It goes to Gorba Tankle with the drive. Twenty two
seconds rmitting in the period, over to try and pick
it up and bring it out of the zone. And
it's going to be played back in the Wisconsin zone.
Back over. Jungles flips it around over to end right
(01:34:34):
and right banks it off the wall. Gophers break that up.
They come back into the line, Frankle with it, plate
it along the boards. Jungles turns comes out with them
right trying to control the zone. You're comments, mister Greeney, Well,
we did a lot of things correctly there.
Speaker 11 (01:34:51):
You know we force them to play a lot of
that period in their own end, just getting it in deep, poor,
checking hard, and that we got bucks in the.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
Neck and got some goal as a result. Twenty minutes
away for some postseason awards. If you will coming up
here in a little bit, we'll be back. We're going
to take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger Hockey.

We're back at Lebon Arena. Here, we're after two periods
of play. The Wisconsin Badgers have a six to one
lead over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, and it's a pleasure
now to interview Leslie Johnson. Leslie, thank you for joining us.
Before we were going to talk about the horse ratch,
which is a passion to yours, but we got to
(01:37:35):
talk a little hockey year. This is pretty exciting and
it certainly looks like Wisconsin is well on their way
to picking up the tenth regular season title for Mark
and the Badgers here.
Speaker 17 (01:37:45):
Oh, it's so exciting. I'll tell you what is. You
never get tired of good hockey. So we're excited to
be part of this, and I'm excited for the full
crowd here. Everybody gets to have a good entertainment and
markets hopefully get another win for the WJA.
Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
You know, when you talk about that, Leslie, six hundred
and fifty seven, if he wins here, the all time
winning is coach in any sport at the history. I
did not know that you did not know that.
Speaker 17 (01:38:15):
No, I got don't know who I'm married to. He
doesn't tell me any of those kind of things. And
I'm busy with a lot of grand kids, so I
don't keep up on it.
Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
He's sass, Jeff Seller, Now fifty seven wins. No other
coach in the campus has won that. Other than that,
just seven national championships. Let's see, there's ten regular season titles,
ten playoff championships, and that kind of thing. From your perspective,
as you sit back and look at all of this
(01:38:44):
and reminisce about it, and it's not over yet, obviously,
what comes to your mind.
Speaker 17 (01:38:49):
Well, honestly, what comes to my mind is how good
our God is, because when the doors close, other doors
open up. And I remember when Mark originally told me
he was thinking and looking at the women's program. I
had nothing against him coaching in the women's program. I
just wanted to make sure he feel it was a
challenge enough for him because he was in the men's song.
And when he didn't get the men's job and he
(01:39:09):
took the women's job, it was funny. One of the
first things he said is, well, the only person I
have to convince is my wife. And people thought I
was like worried about being around a lot of young women,
and I'm like, no, has nothing to do with that,
has everything to do with him just feeling like this
is a good fit and has just been a godsend.
It's just been these women work hard, they're great athletes,
they listen, they want to learn. It's just it's just
(01:39:32):
been such a privilege and we just are very thankful
that we've had this opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
Yeah, and he's pretty humble about things too. When I
bring it up on the pregame show, he goes, oh,
that's nice. I don't want to but basically he doesn't
even want to think about that.
Speaker 17 (01:39:45):
I'm not even sure he really even knows some of
the things that the records and things like that, because
sometimes I'll ask him something to go oh really, and
I'll be like, well, that's why other people they'll ask
me questions. I'm like, you know, I don't really know
find out. So I appreciate it when you tell me
something like that, because I I did not know.
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
Let's talk about something that's obviously a passion for you.
Speaker 7 (01:40:05):
Tell them.
Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
Tell me about the horse ramp.
Speaker 17 (01:40:07):
Well, this is something that we've been praying and dreaming
about for a long time. Just a real quick short
story on it. I grew up in the horse world,
in the hunter jumper world. Never had my own horse.
I couldn't afford it, but I worked at many barns
and became pretty proficient at working horses that were troublemakers
because I got a free ride and I could show
horses that other people would pay my way for me
(01:40:29):
to ride their horses in different classes. So I always
kind of had the desire to own a horse for me.
And then as I got older, I started doing some
different things where I'd bring other people to the barns
that I would work at, and I would love to
watch how kids would come into our barns and just there.
Sometimes they would be sad or afraid of the horse,
(01:40:50):
and they just would get a new confidence when they'd
be able to when we would teach some things and
they would learn that they could handle things. I think
that's what really helps kids a lot, is when they
can feel confident and what they're able to do, and
horses have a unique way of doing that. So I
read a book about ten years ago about a woman
who started without even meaning to, started a ministry. She
(01:41:10):
herself had trouble when she had a father who served
in the war and who had some PTSD. He ended
up shooting her mother and then killing himself. She and
her two sisters were raised by her grandmother, who got
them a pony, which helped her heal. You passed forward
twenty years and she's married to a youth pastor, architect,
landscape guy, and they wanted to buy some land. All
they could afford was some really barren property ten acres,
(01:41:34):
and they got a couple of horses that were abused,
and they were rehabilitating the horses, and so she brought
some one of the girls from the youth group that
her husband was a youth pastor at who hadn't spoken
in five years. In the process, they were filled putting
some fencing, and her name is Kim Meader. Kim said
to the girl, let's go and have hot chocolate, and
the girl, you know, just kindly said no, you know,
kind of shook her hands, said she wanted to stay
(01:41:55):
with the horses, without actually using words. So Kim is
looking at her from the window and seeing her talk
to the horse, and she thought to herself, oh, my goodness,
this is what helped me feel. And now this girl
is talking to a horse when she hasn't spoken in
five years. This is where I'm meant to be. Long
story short. Twenty five years later, she's got one of
the most successful rehabilitation places in the country and vent Oregon,
(01:42:17):
Mark and I. I read her books and I said, Mark,
this is where God wants me. I love horses, I
love God, and I love kids. This is where I
can put my kind of energy now that my kids
are older and I'm not a busy mom anymore. So
we went to this clinic and vent Oregon in a
five day clinic and learned a lot of dudes and
don'ts in the business, and we still have a lot
(01:42:38):
to learn. We don't profess to have all the answers,
but we're super excited that we can make a difference
in our community helping kids find out that our mission
statement says, you know, helping kids find God's lovely animal
land and people. We're going to mentor a child and
get hope to the family. And so none of us
are a therapists, but we're going to put the horse
is the therapist. But we're going to have eighty acres
(01:43:01):
We have a barn that's going up this spring and
by the fall we should be running out having kids
come and it'll be free. They won't have to pay
a penny. So I'm not really worried. It's just we
have to We have to fund raise. That's the biggest
challenge for me. It's not that we're giving up our money.
It's not really our money. It's God's money, and we're
going to take the money that God isn't trusted to
us to be able to give it back to the
(01:43:23):
community where kids can come and find out they'll get
an hour and a half of free mentorship. Put out
of that hour and a half, I believe they need
to give back to the ranch so they feel like
they're part of the process. And kids need to know
they're needed, so they'll have to do some kind of
chore for half an hour while they're there. Oh, so
we're really excited. We're looking forward. I've got a wonderful
team of people on my board who are keeping us,
(01:43:46):
you know, in the straight and marrow, making sure we're
moving forward. We're doing a golf out in June second
at Pleasant View, so we're looking for good sponsors who
are willing to come alongside of us, you know, maybe
help give some money to Mark and I are she
paint for the barn and the land because it's on
our property. We want that to be in our hands.
But all of the running of the prop that, you know,
(01:44:06):
the cost of the vets, the food, the trailer, the tractors,
all that will be owned by the foundation.
Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
So when does all of this become official and how
can people find out about it?
Speaker 17 (01:44:18):
Well, we have a website www. Dot a gove Ranch
WI for Wisconsin. A got a gobe is God's unconditional
love so kids can come. They don't have to love God.
I mean, because I love God doesn't mean that they
have to. But I believe God gives us animal landing
people to help each other. He gives us a job,
and he gives us gifts. And this is where and Mark.
(01:44:41):
The thing that's really cute Paul is Mark. Everybody has
something that they love to do as their kids. Mark
loves tractors and stuff like that. Oh my goodness, he's
such a little kid, and you think about it. He's
excited to be the guy who fits his defenses, who
you know, drives a tractor, you know, so he'll be
very I told me he's going to be busier in
his retirement.
Speaker 2 (01:45:01):
In a different way.
Speaker 17 (01:45:03):
A lot of people think we're crazy starting something in
our sixes.
Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
Oh no, I get it's got to be. You can
see it in your eyes and hear it in your voice,
what a passion this is, and how good this is
going to be for you.
Speaker 17 (01:45:15):
I think it'd be really good for me, it'd be
good for the and I'm excited for the volunteers who
will come, because I know for myself, if I wasn't
the one doing this foundation, I would want to come
with my grandkids and go work for a day at
a farm and you know, take a chicken coop and
clean it out and get eggs and take them to
different people, or go to the garden and get a
pumpkin for kids to cough, and you know, just having
(01:45:36):
kids learn. I think that's a lost art for many
kids in our society. They aren't needed. But kids are
going to be needed. And if we're not going to
have enough space for everybody who.
Speaker 2 (01:45:45):
Wants to come, that's wonderful.
Speaker 17 (01:45:47):
We will have space for volunteers to come. And you know,
if you're under a certain age, you'll have to come
with us an adult, but come and work. And people
who come and work will get just as much out
of it as the kids who. So we're really looking
forward to what God's going to do in this whole process.
Speaker 2 (01:46:01):
When I first heard about it, and I talked to
Mark about it, and he said it very nicely. He said,
you know what, Leslie's followed my dreams all of these years. Yeah,
and now it's time for me to follow her dream.
Speaker 17 (01:46:16):
And he's been really good. And it's and you know,
and when you say that when you love people, I
like hockey, but I love my family, and my family
loves hockey. So I love hockey because the people I
love love hockey. And I think that's how it is
for Mark with this. He does enjoy all of this
kind of stuff, but he loves me, and so he
wants to do something that well, you know, he knows.
It's where I've been gifted. I've got willing. That's how
(01:46:38):
I feel about this whole thing.
Speaker 2 (01:46:39):
I kidded him a little bit, though, I said, Mark,
it's kind of hard to picture you though, wearing a
cowboy hat and cleaning out of barn.
Speaker 17 (01:46:45):
Oh, he looks sick. Actually, the funny thing is there
a couple of barns that I've worked at in the past,
and one front of mine right now is he's been
meeting some people to do some barn work. Bark comes
with me almost weekends and helps me clean out this
barn still because he really he actually likes the manual labor.
He says, he makes a lot of decisions every day
and it's always somebody met at him no matter what.
(01:47:05):
Even when you're on a winning team, someone doesn't play.
He says, it's really nice to go and just get
some real labor done and not have to think.
Speaker 2 (01:47:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:47:13):
So I think it's like from Mark he likes to
go for a walk when he's making big decisions. This
is kind of the same kind of thing. That's where
nature helps. I mean, I do believe there's something that
nature and being out in fresh air getting an exercise,
which is what this branch is going to be offering
to a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
Well, I admire you guys for doing it, and I
can see the passion and the desire and the will
and that kind of thing, and I wish you guys
the best, and sincerely thank you for stop good bye.
Speaker 17 (01:47:41):
Well, thanks for having me, and then what a great
It's really fun to be able to talk to him.
We're winning six months.
Speaker 2 (01:47:45):
Yeah, and I think we'll see a presentation after the
third period.
Speaker 17 (01:47:49):
You have a beautiful thing. Yeah, we're really feeling very blessed.
Another good year. Every years, you can never get tired
of it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
Take care. Lastly, thank you so much for having me. Okay,
we'll be back after this time out. This is Wisconsin
Badger Hockey. Hi, this is Paul Brown. I lost my
wife Karen to Alzheimer's disease, and I can tell you
from first hand experience that emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially

Speaker 19 (01:48:34):
You and the design team have outdone yourselves.
Speaker 2 (01:48:37):
Are you talking about the one collection? Those rings?
Speaker 4 (01:48:39):
Day?
Speaker 19 (01:48:40):
You are the one and they say it symbolically describe
the symbols.
Speaker 22 (01:48:44):
Every ring in the one collection should be presented with
a special ritual.
Speaker 6 (01:48:48):
What would that ritual be?
Speaker 22 (01:48:49):
You pick up her left hand and you place a
kiss on her ring finger.
Speaker 19 (01:48:53):
Rick, you never told me about that part.
Speaker 22 (01:48:55):
Then you show her the tiny red diamond flush mounted
inside the ring will forever be in contact with her finger.
Why is it red, Because that's when the giver says
to the one, wherever you go, my heart goes with you.
Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
I give you this kiss, I give you my heart.
Speaker 19 (01:49:11):
The red diamond is a secret symbol of that sacred moment.
The center diamond on the outside of the ring is
for the whole world to see.
Speaker 22 (01:49:18):
What the tiny red created diamond inside the ring is
only for the two of them.
Speaker 20 (01:49:23):
The one collection of Engage rings is available exclusively at Kessler's.

Sponsored by the Wisconsin Army National Guard, aired by the
Wisconsin Broadcasters Say in this station.
Speaker 1 (01:50:01):
This is ten seventy the game.
Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Back in Lebon Arena on the campus of the University
of Wisconsin. It's a festive and fun afternoon going on here, folks.
The Wisconsin Badgers are leading the Minnesota Golden Gophers by
a score of six to one. They need one point
to win the regular season WCCHA Championship. They've won nine
(01:50:29):
under Mark Johnson's leadership. And if they get the point,
or if they win the game, they get three points
and the presentation of the regular season title will be
done here at Lebon right after the game. How was
it down in the locker room there, Greeny, Well, we
were real pleased with that last period, and he said,
(01:50:50):
just stick with that, you know, get it in deep, make.
Speaker 11 (01:50:53):
Them play in their own end. We did a nice
job of that. Put bucks on the right and smart parts.
Speaker 2 (01:50:56):
Of the ring. You know. By the way Hols Potter.
Speaker 11 (01:51:01):
Ac her shoulder, is you gonna pet she won't be
playing today and we'll see about tomorrow, you know, with
things that's take and then a two week break shun
be out of the game tomorrow to year that would
make sense, but that would make sense.
Speaker 2 (01:51:14):
Yeah, nineteen forty four remedic in the third period, Wisconsin
moving it up ice, controlling it, coming in over the
line with it a Sims, Sims off shutting the goal.
Oh my goodness, sim is an O'Brien.
Speaker 1 (01:51:31):
Second of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:51:33):
Twentieth of the year. O'Brien and the Badgers with a
seven to one lead. Man. That was perfect timing by
Sims's the right hander. She came down the right side
a little bit and just time it throws the goalie
slides it over to O'Brien in the slot. Boom, right
in the neck. What a great combo, great play, Nice
(01:51:53):
job Sims and O'Brien. Third assist of the game and
thirty six of the year for Sim. That was great man.
Those two playing together are just unbelievable telepathy And uh yeah,
they switched the goalie the go Ford coming back over
to pick it up. Fan control in the nets. Now
(01:52:15):
is Johnston and Johnson is in the goal. Oh Nic
said to get up fan control. There's a drive Ava
playing without a stick. No, she's got her stick back yet,
and back out at center ice the Wisconsin Badgers O'Brien
from Simms and Laylea Edwards also got an assist on
(01:52:38):
that goal. I think that's a pretty good college hockey line. Yeah,
they got over five hundred points between the three of them.
Comes into the line control to get the play down
to the corner on the far side seven to one.
Wisconsin Badgers back in their own zone over to try
(01:52:58):
and pick it up in the play is going to
be set up by Minnesota. They try to move it
in block nicely by Jungle. Yeah, and laid right down,
kept it out of there and with it is Heyden
in the corner over to try and pick it up
along the boards, going back over to set it up
and bring it out of the zone. They flip it
ahead and it rolls back down in the corner, going
(01:53:20):
back Minnesota over to set it up. Kasabody with it
on the play tip down over the center eyes Edwards four.
Wisconsin comes back in the wing. Wisconsin comes through Centerace
Harvey in over the line and it goes Tonevitchznevich with
the puck along the boards, cycled it down deepen the
(01:53:41):
zone in the corner back of it to wind right
down right over to pick it up the Badger's control
and it comes out of the zone. Harvey, you'll back
it up over to Edwards. She'll skate back in the
Wisconsin zone and play it around over to Harvey. Here's
Harvey moving through Centerrice weeds her way in over the line,
tried to flip it towards the high slot. Pope checked
(01:54:02):
the way. Badgers though, hold it in back over to Harvey.
Harvey with it back out on top over to Edwards
around on the play moving it in. Shot went wide
of Johnson. Yeah, n shot and coming over to pick
it up and controlled Harvey with it. And it comes
on the play over the scannal there and there's a
(01:54:23):
man that was a rifle shot right there right off
the crossbar. Man order to try and set it up
and whistle and play is going to be stopped.
Speaker 11 (01:54:33):
Just that thing had like flames coming off it like
a laser.
Speaker 2 (01:54:38):
Yeah, yeah, no kidding.
Speaker 17 (01:54:41):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:54:41):
It's nice to see that this fourth line out there
and they're doing smart things with the puck. They did
last period two. They had some good shifts. It's just
neat to see that. I would think this one's a
bit of an eye opener, you know what. Yeah, yeah,
it is coming over to set it up in the
neutral zone, Controller gets going to be played back. Minnesota
cuts in over the line. Shot a goal, boy, Moro,
(01:55:04):
rip that one.
Speaker 11 (01:55:04):
You sure did, right off the on the side of
the crossbar.
Speaker 2 (01:55:08):
Her tenth goal of the AAR And Minnesota gets a goal,
and it's now a seven to two game here. Yes,
that was a heck of a shot. Three to zero
six the time of the goal in the third period.
Who is that by Morow Morrow?
Speaker 17 (01:55:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:55:27):
Yeah, the heck of a shot by her, a hard
wrister right off the underside of the crossbar.
Speaker 2 (01:55:31):
Fifteenth goal of the ear for her. Yeah, And the
face off coming up bad neutral ice. A couple of
twenty six is in that face off circle, and the
Badgers go over to try and pick that up, and
the Gophers will turn and they come back into the
Wisconsin line with it as Huber plays it back down
on the corner over to Abby Murphy throwing a check
(01:55:53):
along the back wall. Badgers turning out they come coming
up by Sims comes in over the line, Sims controlling
it on the plate of an Ussio who pulls up
and then back ends it in the corner around over
to Sims on the far side. A little given go
moving it in shot by O'Brien looking for the hat
trick got deflected up over the glass and out of play.
(01:56:17):
It's nice to see we got Zillish in here playing
a little d which is nice, and give her an
opportunity and she's out of Appleton, Wisconsin. The junior Mikayla
Zilch seven points in her career, got a couple of
assists this year. Gorbatanco out for the Badgers. Dad O'Brien
(01:56:37):
is out and the Badgers try to pick that up
with Sims and Jungles behind the attic. Rug goes around
over to Gorbatanco, who skates it down on the far wall.
She tried to play ahead of minnesotable turn and Puppy
with it. Puppy coming in over the line. Poppy played
it past Zilich there and the play goes back down
(01:56:59):
deepen the zo in the corner, back in behind the
death Badgers try to work it out of their own
zone with it as Sims she's got three assists in
the game. Here coming up Ice controlling it. Badger's got
a couple of players with two goals apiece, that is
Edwards and O'Brien. O'Brien comes in over the line back
under by sims round on the far side. Badgers look
(01:57:22):
to try and control it. Minnesota will turn and bring
it out over to center ice and it's broken up.
Gophers at their own blueline with it play it down
on the Wisconsin zone going back as Eden Aiden skates
in behind. Aba McNaughton fires it out on the break.
Badger's regroup. They come to Edwards near side, who played
it off the sidewall. Badgers controlled it, come in over
(01:57:46):
the line with its Eden between the docks and they
have a penalty call here coming up so and it's
we'll be back thirty seconds. This is a Wisconsin Badgers
Women's hockey.
Speaker 13 (01:58:00):
Strong Genesis Strong from energy efficient windows to siding and roofing.
We built for Wisconsin's toughest weather, ready to upgrade called
Genesis X tiers, career craftsmen, better materials, a stronger warranty,
Genesis Xteriors.
Speaker 23 (01:58:14):
If you have land you want to keep safe for wildlife,
Forever Contact the Wildlife Land Trust, part of the Humane
Society of the United States for more than a decade.
Call one eight hundred seventy nine save one eight hundred
seven to nine sav.
Speaker 2 (01:58:28):
E Badgers on the power play. They are let in
power play goal scoring by Harvey along with Eden and
Edwards with sex apiece will we get in a shot
went off and a glass and comes all the way
back down on the Wisconsin zone. In the third period.
The Badgers have outscored their opponents fifty one to eight
(01:58:49):
coming into this period on the year, Wisconsin with over
one hundred and sixty goals up and Wisconsin comes in
over the line and haul and Gorbett Tanko on the
far side trying to pick it up. Little Gibb and
go out his scandal on the forward line as well.
Minnesota turns and out at center eye. Scannel blocks it
(01:59:10):
and knocks it down. Scannal's got her eleventh goal of
the year in this game. Badger's come through center eyes.
Play comes to the blue line and the Gophers get
it there and they'll move it. Huber with it played
it in over the line and move it gets shot
when wide by Abby Murphy around on the far side.
Wisconsin cuts in over the line. Scannal lost her stick.
(01:59:31):
Gorbatanco try to knock it down and poke it in,
comes in the circle, fires it and that's blocked. Whoa
and the player who blocked that that is Abby Murphy
and she's playing with it. She's hurt and she's playing
without a stick. Around on the far side. She's going
to pick up her stick and she is hurting it.
(01:59:52):
You could definitely see it. Her right leg or ankle
is just killing her yep. And she's having a tough
time staying up. Yeah, and she's going to skate off
the eye of the bench. Yeah. I hope she's all right.
I don't like to see anybody get hurt. And going
back over to try and control it. Thirteen thirty remitting
here in the period, coming up Ice controlling it coming
(02:00:14):
in over the line on the wing is was nevi
going man. Was Nevige around in behind around over to
and right and Percard out on that forward line. They
have the puck at the right point. They come around
over to edwards back over on the far side over
the per Card. Pericard skates along the back wall, trying
to work her way loose thirteen oh five, remitting Minnesota
(02:00:37):
gets out of the penalty situation. Badgers don't convert in
the power play, but it's still seven to two Gophers
on the short end of it here and Wisconsin will
get an icing that they'll bring the face off back
in the Minnesota zone for a face off coming up.
Speaker 11 (02:00:55):
Yeah, it looks like we got Leila Edwards spending a
little time on defense now and then.
Speaker 2 (02:00:59):
Here to kind of again shifting around. Yeah, shore up
our shortage on d today we had two players. Murphy
right a little under the weather, so she's not playing
and now Potter out yep, So Layla decides, well, I'll
play there too. Yeah, we'll go there. I'll go wherever
you want me to go. Played down in the corner
and Simons O'Brien move it to the wing. O'Brien one
(02:01:23):
of the six seniors honored here in the pregame activities
round down. She's had a wonderful career at Wisconsin. Yes,
she has over two hundred and forty five points coming
into this game. Played back down and go trying to
get the backhander and then to play the sims. Simms
has got three assists in the game. Badger set it
(02:01:45):
up with it as O'Brien, little Gibb and go, here's
Sims moving it in in front. Was Jungles trying to
get off a shot and it's going to be picked
off by Jungles who carried its goal and wiscont some goal.
(02:02:06):
Pardon me man for Jungles and it's now eight to two.
What a great shot, man, a beautiful goal. She's a
left hander. She ripped it from about the left dot
and beat that goalie over the.
Speaker 11 (02:02:20):
Blockers side, which was the short side, just under the crossbar.
You know, she plays in goalie world. And I tell
her shoot the buck man, you got a nice shot.
This is you know, pretty accurate too with that. That
was proof of it there. Great goal by Vivian.
Speaker 2 (02:02:34):
Jungles, eight two Wisconsin. Unbelievable.
Speaker 11 (02:02:42):
I didn't expect that, no way, really.
Speaker 2 (02:02:44):
No way. I thought the game could be three to two,
two to one, something like that. Yes, and it's going
to be played in the neutral zone over to try
and set it up. Minnesota is playing without three pretty
important people who are not in the lineup. Boving is
one of them.
Speaker 11 (02:03:02):
For sure, and well we've got a pedal the Year
Harvey I think you're no scandal went to the box.
Speaker 2 (02:03:11):
So we're going to have a power play for Minnesota
cross check by scandal for two minutes, eleven minutes, forty
eight seconds. You're metting in the third period, Badgers eight
to two, thirty one to fifteen in shots. They needed
a point. They're going to win the regular season championship
(02:03:33):
with the WHA would mark Johnson and the Badger's tenth
regular season title. And it's going to be picked up
along the boards. The presentation is going to take place
after this game, Greeney, I suppose you'll be down there
on the ice. I'll join another festivities. You bet.
Speaker 11 (02:03:50):
I like a trophy as much as anybody coming over.
Speaker 2 (02:03:53):
To pick it up and coming back over to control it.
Good four check by wise there Hunter coming up ice,
controlling it, coming through neutral ice, laid back in Minnesota
over to set it up, trying to move in shot
block rebound shine. They had an open net on the
follow there. Yeah, wow, Premorano had an opportunity been missed
(02:04:13):
it on the open net. That young lady's a good
player too. Yes, she was the premier recruit for Minnesota
last year. Yeah, unjustifiably sold you know they got a
good team, Yeah, they do, and it's going to be
played ahead, trying to pick it up and control going back.
We're nearing the halfway mark of the third period and
(02:04:35):
fifty two seconds you'remitting in a penalty. Time to scandal
coming up ice controlling it. It's going to be played
back down in the corner and Edward's out over to
pick it up. Edward's off on the wing on the
near side and to play in the neutral zone, coming
over to pick it up. Here comes O'Brien in over
the line. Shot on the follow a rebound, Amal it
was block. Yeah, Well, Brian is playing like it may
(02:04:59):
be one of her last appearances here. No kid comes
in over the line and the back is Abby Murphy.
So she's back out on the ice. That's good to see.
Comes around on the right side and the drive there, boy,
she got a solid one off there. Yeah, and it's
going to be controlled. David Murphy may have got hit
(02:05:20):
with a sticker a shot, I'm not sure she's that
kind of hobbling a bit, yeah, laid along the boards
on the right side, over to try and control it,
and the play comes back over. We're down to nine
for two remaining in the period. Wisconsin over to set
it up and they'll work it up ice on the
far boards. Minnesota will turn and they'll be back it
(02:05:44):
up in their own zone. On the play ahead loose
down on the corner on the right side, Kadlowski goes
back and Butnusio touching the puck and play is going
to be stopped there. Yep. See if we can win
this offensive zone face off, create another scoring opportunity, perhaps
(02:06:05):
Eden and assists got a goal and Sims has got
four assists in this game.
Speaker 11 (02:06:12):
Yeah, they're they're racking them up today. Oh all won
that draw cleanly.
Speaker 2 (02:06:19):
And writing myself a quick note.
Speaker 11 (02:06:22):
Here back to the body, Busio.
Speaker 2 (02:06:25):
Around on the far side, controlling it, Badgers and the
Minnesota both at full strength and picking it up. Sims
around on top. It comes on the play back of
it to Venusio shot it, got it through, went wide around,
played down on the corner, and Wisconsin over to try
and control the play at centerrise, backing it up, Wisconsin
(02:06:47):
over the Venusio. Venusio cuts in over the line, played
back around the boards on the far side. Thirty three
to seventeen in shots and the Gophers come through center ice,
trying to control it, working the wing down on the
right side, controlling that as Hubert in behind the net
out with Connor and Murphy, Gophers hold the point right side,
(02:07:11):
shot went off, Ava McNaughton picked up and Abby Murphy
with it. Abby Murphy skates between the dots, then backs
it out towards the blue line and flips it in
the corner back over to Hubert. Hubert and Sims go
over to try and pick it up. Abby Murphy with
it and turned and tried to center it, and the
play went tomorrow who got the goal here in the
(02:07:32):
third period, their second of the game. And they'll work
it around over to try and set it up back
door shut in a posts. Oh Connor had an open
net and drove it right at the post and it
caramed out.
Speaker 11 (02:07:46):
An ocean a net and they didn't score, and I'm
thankful for that.
Speaker 2 (02:07:50):

Speaker 2 (02:09:03):
Bondering them where It's eight two and Zach Seloff telling
us Wisconsin's biggest win against the Gophers eight too.
Speaker 11 (02:09:11):
Yeah, I don't recall a mark, and it's up their
bible and then one Saturday up there that was.
Speaker 2 (02:09:19):
Those eight have been put up to a piece for
Edwards and O'Brien man and Eden has a goal, Jungles
has a goal, Scannon has a goal in Picard have
one apiece, and the Badgers with a six goal lead,
and we're down to eight minutes in one second Raymantic
(02:09:39):
in the third period around on the far side, Edwards
is back out on the ice. That's good to see
and trying to come through traffic over to try and
set it up. There's a shot block rebound fin and
trying to poke it in was Eden and whistle and
play is going to be stopped. The play, Yeah, they
got to scramble going on between Abby Murphy and Gorbatanco.
(02:10:04):
He's holding up to one another.
Speaker 11 (02:10:05):
Yeah, Bourbatanko lost her helmet, So that's why play was
whistled dead.
Speaker 2 (02:10:12):
The fuck was still live.
Speaker 11 (02:10:13):
I couldn't believe there was a compilation of bodies there
around the side of the net, but the buck was
still loose.
Speaker 2 (02:10:22):
Seven minutes and thirty six seconds remaining in the third period,
and the same two teams will play tomorrow. That game
time is twelve o'clock here at Lebon for Game two
of this series and Greenies. Zach's taking off. He's going
on vacation for a week. Oh are you He's going
(02:10:43):
to sit in the Land of the Sun. He's dumping
us for a broadcast.
Speaker 11 (02:10:46):
We are you aheading Florida or something or who knows?
Speaker 2 (02:10:49):
Oh waste? Yeah, okay, just down the street. He's just
decided I'm not going to do the game.
Speaker 11 (02:10:55):
I'm going on vacation, leaving us hanging.
Speaker 2 (02:10:57):
Yeah, nice guy, hunh yeah, thanks a lot. Sn weo.
We get in trying to control it and play back
in behind the Minnesota ned in an eight to two game,
Badger's out in front. Gophers turn and trying to come
out of their own zone, and they'll played all the
way back. Harvey's skating back in a hurry to pick
(02:11:17):
it up around on the far side. They turned and
tried to break it out. The puck is loose at
the point, played back down deepen the zone in the
corner seven of in its ten seconds, tremitting in the
third period, and Wisconsin trying to get it out of
their own zone. They'll come up ice through the neutral zone.
Scandal on the plate to Harvey. Harvey a little given
(02:11:39):
goal that pass deflected. Minnesota works the near wing to
come out of their own zone and control the puck
up ice with it Lindsey. Lindsay skates into the line.
Looked like it was offside on the backside wing, but
no call. The Gophers controlled it back to Graham down
on the corner on the lap. Graham controlling the puck,
will angle it back in behind Ava McNaughton, who watches
(02:12:02):
it go by. Badgers nearboards in the corner, coming up
ice through neutral with its scandal fired it down in
and it passed bounce past Johnson, the goaltender. They took
out Clark here at the third period Badgers hall in
n right. They stack over to Percard, tried to slide
it through, got blocked in traffic out on top. There's
(02:12:25):
a shot maul that deflected one of the goal. Wisconsin
in the corner on the near side. Continue to set
it up. They play it to the point, driven back
in behind the net, around over to en Right, en Right,
slanting it back to Jungles. Jungles around on the far
side on the play and it's given to Zilich, who
worked it around the wing. Yep, Wisconsin turn tried to
(02:12:48):
clear it at center ice. Minnesota will have to skate
it back in their own zone with Graham. Graham plays
it around on the right sown on the break to
Coasabad and they'll play it up ice and Brousio will
go back and we'll have an icing call. Down to
five thirty three remaining in the third.
Speaker 11 (02:13:09):
Well, I tell you the Gophers are still, you know, playing,
but uh it looks like I don't know, they're.
Speaker 2 (02:13:16):
Shorthanded a little. They are. They run out of gas
those four lines. How many games have we seen that? Yeah?
Where were the three sets? Of course today we don't
have the total rotation and go on defense.
Speaker 11 (02:13:27):
Right, but we still get the four boards.
Speaker 2 (02:13:30):
And the draw around on the far side over to
pick it up on the far boards, coming over trying
to control it, played back along the boards on the
right and Gorbatanco dumps it down in the corner. Five
minutes twenty seconds remaining, the Badgers looking for their twenty
eighth winn of the year against one loss and two ties,
their only loss to the Buckeyes of Ohio State Wisconsin
(02:13:55):
coming out of their own zone, controlling it with its
sims with four systs on the day, she controls the
puck and the neutral ice slides it around over to Bnusio.
Banusio jammed it around the board, so O'Brien a couple
of goals, trying to hold it in. It comes back
to the neutral ice area. Bnusio fires it to Gorbatanko,
(02:14:16):
who shuffled it around to the far side, over to
Kadlowski and she'll play it down in behind Johnson. Johnson
cut it off and on the wing near side over
to try and pick it up. Play in the neutral zone.
Badgers back at their own bulleline. Whether it comes sims
or sims in over the line to O'Brien, that play
(02:14:36):
is taken away and Hubert bumps it out to center
her ice back Carvey to cover over to McCarthy and
Minnesota trying to pick it up. Harvey shuffles it around
over to Edwards, held in by Connor on the play
over to Abby. Murphy shot it off the glass. That
pass come. Their shot comes all the way back in
the Gopher zone. Lighten and to set it up for Minnesota.
(02:15:01):
As the Gophers flip it out on the brake four
minutes remitting in the period, they try to hit Abby
Murphy right wing boards, Badger's turn come back in of
the line and the play is turned back out of
the zone by Minnesota. Ice with it. Lindsey to the
Badger line, intercepted there, Jungles, Jungles playing it back in
behind the net, pulls up and then fires it off
(02:15:23):
the boards, intended for McCarthy held in. Badgers along the
boards near side trying to pick it up, and the
Gopher zone lighten and control and in the neutral zone
it's going to be set up. Minnesota comes in over
the Badger line. Lindsay with a drive kicked out i
Ava McNaughton and the Badger's turn in a hurry back
(02:15:44):
in of the line on the play. Cassie Hall with
the drive and that's blocked. Badgers try to pinch and
hold it in and Right comes over and Right hustles
over and picks up the puck and ride with it.
Slides it back, intended to come out toward the point,
but it's passed all the way back in the zone
of the Badgers. We've seen far less of those mispasses
(02:16:08):
out of the zone in this game than we did.
Speaker 11 (02:16:10):
Smarter puck management today very much.
Speaker 2 (02:16:13):
Paul controlling it and it's gonna be Venusio with two
forty seven or menting somebody playing without a stick moving
it up ice coming through that was scandal. She had
to pick up her own stick. Halverson with it. They
had a Minnesota there and they turn and they try
to lead it up ice, but the Badgers Aba McNaughton
with the big goalie stick plays it off. Wisconsin will
(02:16:36):
turn and start out two minutes and twenty five seconds
away from winning the league regular season title. Here's Gorbatanko
with it, comes in over the line off on the play.
Badgers look to set it up, played back on the
boards way down in the corner, and with it is Harvey.
Harvey with it back out on top, controlling it play
(02:16:58):
in the neutral zone, coming over. This set that up.
Two minutes remaining. Here Minnesota goes back along the board.
The score is eight to two Wisconsin. Yeah, with a
minute fifty left to goal and Badger's still playing hard
with this per card whistle and action's going to be saved. Yeah, Well,
(02:17:20):
the regular season title is goal number one. There's much
more that can be accomplished by the end of the
year between the playoff championship yep, and then the regional
and then maybe the big Enchilada, which should be nice.
Huh yeah.
Speaker 11 (02:17:37):
A treat to get to the Frozen four if possible, you.
Speaker 2 (02:17:40):
Know that said Ritter Arena in the Twin City, around
on the far side, over to set it up and
controlling it. Final five of the WCHA and Minnesota Dulute
lay down in the corner, Badgers go back in behind
around on the far side over to set it up.
One thirty three remitting in the period and with it
(02:18:01):
as Harvey back out on top over to Layley Edwards, Bake.
The drive pulls up circles and Blake comes to Harvey.
Harvey with it coming in off the wing, moving it.
Tried to go in the slot to per Card, back
out on top over to Edwards, comes around over to Harvey.
Came off her stick Harvey controlling it back over to Edwards,
(02:18:22):
back out on top between the dots. They give it
to Harvey. Oh she's slid off her stick YEP. Here
we go and down to one minute remaining in regulation
time and Gorbatanco comes in over the line. Gorbatankle with
a puck comes around on the far side. Badgers look
to control it and Goorbatanco lost it, forced out of
(02:18:44):
the zone, Jungles with it. Jungles turns and fires it
down in the crowd coming alive, knowing that they're going
to win the game and the regular season title. They're
starting to stand here to appreciate the efforts of a
team that's going to be twenty eight one and two
in the year. Laid back down in the corner with
(02:19:04):
twenty five seconds remaining here and it's played around the
boards on the far side. Wisconsin over trying to pick
it up. Oh, and it's going to come to neutral ice.
With fifteen seconds reminting in over the line, Eden backed
over to McCarthy, pulled the whole boy, deflected away eight
seconds away. The regular season title, the tenth under Mark Johnson,
(02:19:28):
and it's going to belong to the Wisconsin Badgers, equaling
the total of ten playoff championships in the regular season
with an eight to two win over the Golden Gophers
of Minnesota. Greedy quick comment.
Speaker 4 (02:19:41):
Then we'll let you go.
Speaker 2 (02:19:42):
I'll tell you you mentioned it here. In the third.
Speaker 11 (02:19:44):
But we did a lot of things wisely with the
puck today and it paid off dividends. You face the
team that's good and you beat him by a six
pool margin tells you you got to did a lot
of things correctly.
Speaker 2 (02:19:55):
And the coaches exchanging the handshakes. Minnesota lining up, greedy. Thanks,
we'll see again tomorrow and we'll be back after this
time out? Is Wisconsin bad your hockey?

Speaker 5 (02:21:13):
Welcome back everyone. After three periods complete, the Madgers defeat
the No. First Number one over number three eight to
two in regulation, a tie with the greatest march in
the victory the Badgers have had and the greatest number
of goals they have had against this team from Minnesota.
They beat them vice the same score eight to two
back in December of twenty sixteen. I'm joined with Paul Brown.
(02:21:34):
Paul so many accolades from today. But the w CDCHA
regular season title is back in Madison once again.
Speaker 2 (02:21:41):
What are the size of that trophy? Is like? It
looks like the Stanley Cup. It is a big, big cup.
Speaker 5 (02:21:49):
The Badgers slam against the end line boards here sharing
a moment with the crowd, and there there's I'm pretty
sure that's bigger than the Stanley Cup. Bigger than this
might be fully four feet tall of a cup from
the WCCHA and what a way to win it for
the Badgers. You I heard you talking offline with Coach
(02:22:09):
Greenhall when we were at a break that you guys
were expecting, you know, two to one, three of two specially,
and I had the same thought, especially given how well
Minnesota's done since we played them earlier in the season.
Speaker 2 (02:22:20):
Boy, did the Bangers ever come to play the lot
And they without a doubt, if there was any concern
about mentally with where they were at and what kind
of a game they were going to play, they answered
all of those questions here today they very much did.
Speaker 5 (02:22:35):
The Badgers getting to win eight to two. We had
two different players with two goals, each of those being
Casey O'Brien and Layla Edwards. Layla Edwards also added two
assists for her trouble Casey O'Brien an assist of her own.
Kirsten Simms had four assists on the name. Carolyn Harvey
had two assists, which tied her for the school record
for points by defenseman in a season at an incredible
(02:22:56):
forty nine. She ties Megan Michelson in that regard.
Speaker 2 (02:22:58):
One more point and she'll the outrights title for that.
It's just an amazing game. Three.
Speaker 5 (02:23:04):
The freshmen had points, Maybe scandal had a score. Emma
Venusio and Hannah Halverson both had assists.
Speaker 2 (02:23:11):
Let's see who's gonna lift it is? It gonna be
Harvey and they're gonna carry They may have to carry
it together. The two cats.
Speaker 5 (02:23:17):
They are the two captain Carolyn Harvey and Casey O'Brien
hoisted up as the teammates joined one.
Speaker 2 (02:23:24):
Another and putting their hands on the cup.
Speaker 5 (02:23:26):
The Badgers with an incredible victory to seal the WCHA.
They needed one point in these last four games. Instead
they get three points tonight against their bitter rivals, the
Minnesota Golden Gophers from across the border.
Speaker 2 (02:23:41):
And a lot of the crowd has stayed here to
watch the presentation. But I tell you what, Jack, you
get the feeling that there's more to come. Potentially. This
is a very talented team. Now they're gathering around where
they're going to take the photo of the team and
put the coaches in there and that kind of thing,
and everybody in on. There'll be another plaque up on
(02:24:03):
the wall or a big picture here at Lebon Arena.
As you see the tournament NCAA tournaments, there's a banner
up for that frozen four appearances National Championships WCCHA regular season.
They're going to have to take that one down and
put it up another year, and we'll see about the
(02:24:24):
playoffs which will still come up.
Speaker 5 (02:24:26):
And the various seamstresses for the uw women's hockey team
will have a lot to do.
Speaker 2 (02:24:30):
Sewing in some new numbers on all these banners. As
the Patchers get an enormous victory.
Speaker 5 (02:24:36):
They improved to twenty eight to one and two on
the season. Yep, I mean one loss, two ties. One
of those a shootout win, one a shootout loss. As
you hate to use the word right because you strive
for it though you know, you know, achievement. But this
season has been very close to perfect. They have been
so good throughout.
Speaker 2 (02:24:55):
So much of it well, and the word is out
obviously around the country for people that follow women's hockey
and that kind of thing. I was talking to the
Minnesota play by play guy, and he's a great guy.
He talked about the year that they went undefeated. The
golfers did have an undefeated season. They won every game
and he said, you know what, if I'm honest about it,
(02:25:18):
he thinks this team has more talent than that team
had in terms of total depth and ability to play
so many different people. Well, and boy, is that ever
saying something?
Speaker 5 (02:25:29):
You talk about a team that goes undefeated, and if
you look at another team and say, I think they
might be better. Yeah, But as I look at this
team too, the thing that strikes me is not only
are they incredibly talented, but there are very few points
in their game that you would say are genuine weaknesses.
They have four forward lines that can all play, three
depairs that can all play, an outstanding goaltender who is
(02:25:51):
backed up by another outstanding goaltender, and quin hoots. We
know Chloe Baker has talent, she just hasn't had the
chance to demonstrate it as much. Their special teams are phenomenal,
number one in the country powerplay percentage and penalty killing percentage.
There's just no weaknesses on this team now to exploit
if you're an opponent.
Speaker 2 (02:26:08):
They're having fun obviously, So all right.
Speaker 5 (02:26:12):
Well we're gonna take our final break. We'll be back
with final thoughts and a recaff. The Badgers win the
game against the Minnesota Gophers eight to two and they
win the WCCHA regular season titles. Stay tuned to the
postgame show here on AM ten seventy the game.

We've got highlights of all eight of these goals. You're

Speaker 1 (02:30:05):

Speaker 2 (02:30:06):

and the Badgers with a seven to one lead. Moving
it in in front. Was Jungles trying to get off
a shot and it's going to be picked off by
(02:30:26):
Jungle who carried it in the show. Frondost the goal
her first goal and was common get after scond goal.
Pardon me man for Jungles, and it's now eight to two,
eight seconds away the regular season title, the tenth under
(02:30:47):
Mark Johnson, and it's going to belong to the Wisconsin Badgers,
equalling the total of ten playoff championships in the regular season.
With an eight to two win over the Goal and
go for seven Minnesota gritty quick comment, then we'll let
you go.
Speaker 11 (02:31:03):
Well, I tell you you mentioned here in the third,
