Speaker 5 (00:39):
Hello everyone, and welcome to Wisconsin Bangers Women's hockey.
Speaker 6 (00:43):
In a season filled with accolades, awards, and honors of plenty,
the Bagers have climbed every single mountaintop save one. On
top that summits with the ultimate prize, the one they
have worked all season to win, the one that eclipses
all others on NCAA National Championship and standing in their
way are the same people who've opposed them in the
previous two national championship games, the Buckeyes of Ohio State.
(01:05):
We're out in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the beautiful Ritter Arena,
and in just a few short hours we will find
out if Wisconsin could reach the loftiest heights that college
hockey has to offer. Thanks so much for joining us
here on an ten seventy the game. My name is
Zach sea Lost and Hall of Famer Paul Brown will
be joined by Wisconsin goalie coach Mark Greenhall in just
a few minutes for the call of the game. The
Badgers earned their chance to play for the title by
(01:26):
defeating the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
Let's recap that game.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
In the sixth matchup of hockey's two biggest rivals, the
Minnesota Golden Gophers played host to Wisconsin Badgers to determine
who would face off Ohio State in the NCAA Championship.
The game got off to a violent start with Abby
Murphy delivering a high, late, horseful elbow to Badger captain
Carolyn Harvey. No call was made on the ice, but
coach Mark Johnson challenged for a major penalty, to the
(01:51):
chagrin of Minnesota fans. Murphy was assessed to five minute
major for elbowy. To the chagrina Wisconsin fans, she was
not assessed to game missconduct or dis qualification.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
Despite a few good.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
Chances for Wisconsin, Minnesota's defense held during the entire five
minute penalty, and Murphy returned to the game with zero
still on the scoreboard. That penalty kill seemed to boost
the Gophers, and four minutes after the penalty expired, Minnesota
broke the stalemate on an even strength goal from Peyton
Hemp to make it one to zero. The capacity crowd
composed in the main of Badger fans was at a loss,
all the more so when with this three twenty four
(02:22):
left in the period, Abe Murphy was called for hooking
and Minnesota went to the power play. With the prospect
of a two to ozho Gopher lee looming. The Badgers
never wavered. They maintained their composure, looked for their opportunities,
and when one presented itself, you couldn't have picked two
better players to jump on it. Just forty five seconds
into the penalty, Carolyn Harvey stole the puck in the
Badger zone and sent a killer passed to Casey O'Brien
(02:44):
in neutral ice. As O'Brien gained the Minnesota blue line,
Leila Edwards trailed behind her and was in perfect position
when O'Brien executed a no look dropped pass edwards.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
Towdrag passed to Minnesota defender.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
Right into the slot and rifled a shot past Tannah Clark,
scoring the shorthanded goal and bringing the Badgers even.
Speaker 7 (03:01):
That won won.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
The fans, who had previously been so nervous for their team,
now exploded in joy at ever it It's score, and
the momentum going into the intermission was all on Wisconsin's side.
That momentum paid dividends early in the second when Carolyn Harvey,
who had then so violently sent to the ice in
the first period, skated herself open and buried the score
just two fifty two into the period, giving the.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Badgers a lathe would not relinquish.
Speaker 6 (03:24):
Kirsten Sims out at the next door on a beautiful
shot from the bottom of the left circle, but Minnesota
retaliated quickly, scoring just forty five seconds later. With the
score at three to two. The remainder of the second
was close to a stalemate, but then the goal that
seemed to finish the Gophers off came with just two
seconds left in the period, as Lacy Eden and Ella
Hubert chased after the puck behind the Wisconsin net. Heeding
(03:45):
got positioned on Hubert, whose attempts to stick with Bed
led to her colliding with the net and helicopter into
the ice. Minnesota, apparently believing that a penalty was coming,
stopped pursuit of the puck, but with no whistle sounding,
Wisconsin played on. Lady Potter moved the puck up to
Casey O'Brien, and the captain called her own number at
the other end of the ring, beating Hannah Clark and
making it four to two Wisconsin just as the period ended.
(04:07):
In the third and final period, Leila Edwards decided that
amongst all the statistical categories the Wisconsin controls, they should
have the league's leading goal scorer as well. Edwards came
into the game with thirty one goals, second only to
Minnesota's Abbe Murphy.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
While Murphy did not.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
Score on Friday's game, Edwards put together a hat trick,
with the final two goals coming in the third period,
including an empty and edner to.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Close things out.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
With that, she took over sole possession of first place
in the NCAA for goals scored, and the Badgers defeated Minnesota,
improving their record against the Gophers this season to an
incredible six to zero and for the first time in
team history, taking the lead in the overall series with
fifty eight wins against fifty seven losses and sixteen ties
over the incredible run of the Border Battle. As I
(04:48):
said at the top, the Badgers have earned all manner
of honors this season. They currently have two hundred and
seventeen goals scorer, tied for the most of any UW
team in the season.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
They also have thirty.
Speaker 6 (04:58):
Seven wins, again tied for the most of any UW team.
Ava mccontton has tied with Kristin Campbell for the most
wins in the season with thirty five. Layla Edwards has
the most goals in the NCUBLEA and scored her one
hundred and fiftieth career point last night. Carolyn Harvey has
scored more points this season and in her career than
any UW.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Defender in history.
Speaker 6 (05:17):
And then we come to KC O'Brien, the Badger's fifth
year captain, has more points than anyone in UW history,
more assists than anyone in UW history. She has the
most assists of anyone in a season in NC doublea history,
and she has been selected as a first team All American,
First Team All WCHA, the WCCHA Forward and Player of
the Year, and yesterday she was named the twenty twenty
(05:38):
five Patty Casmier Award winner as the best women's college
hockey player this season. And yet still with enough hardware
to make John Lennard blush, the Badgers are not finished.
Everything they have done this season has been in service
of their ultimate goal, bringing a national championship back to Madison.
They will have to face the Ohio State Buckeyes to
accomplish that goal. The Buckeyes sent them home without a trophy.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
Last year in a very tight one oh game.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
The Badgers repaid them in the past in twenty twenty three,
defeating the Buckeyes one zero in the National Championship. Now
it is time for the rubber match in twenty twenty five,
as it's Wisconsin versus Ohio State. Ohio State the only
team to hand Wisconsin a loss this season.
Speaker 5 (06:18):
Thank you so.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
Much for joining us. We've got all the action for
you here on AM ten seventy of the game. We've
got an interview with coach of here, Mark Johnson coming
up on the pregame show Stay tuned to Wisconsin Badger
Women's Hockey presented by Goodman the Diamond Store of Madison.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Back in the pregame shows, Paul Brown with Mark Johnson
and Mark and Leslie are the owners of a Goatfe ranch.
To learn about their story, what they do, how to
visit the ranch, volunteer, donate to a worthy cause, go
to a gotfe agape ranch wi dot com. And the
Golf Audies coming up in June. Guys, gals, get your
(06:59):
tea time so it'll be a fun event first week
in June. Mark Casey O'Brien yesterday, I've heard a lot
of speeches like that. That one was Alec quint.
Speaker 8 (07:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (07:11):
I mean it's fun when they, you know, can put
something together and it's really from the heart. And she
covered a lot of different things and thanked a lot
of people and understood that. You know, she had a
lot of support, a lot of great teammates along the way,
and I was happy for I mean, she had a
great season last year, could easily won it last year,
(07:31):
took it upon herself to come back and have her
best season ever. And you know, she's rewritten our record book,
which is hard to do and it was very worthy,
So I'm very happy for I'm very proud.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Of her and some more accolades coming in, including for
all Americans.
Speaker 9 (07:45):
Yeah, I mean, you know, when you have a good
season and your players play the way the people are
playing and do it consistently over for over the year,
they're going to get recognized. And all of them are
very deserving. That's why we're still talking. It's the last
game of the season and we're all in it because
of those kids.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
And those four are Harvey, no surprise there, Edwards Sims
zen O'Brien mark I was reading some comments from Nadine
Muzzerol about this game and she said it's a game
of contrasting styles. Their club she describes as blue collar, tough,
(08:22):
don't quit, relentless, hard workers. That pair assessment on her partners.
Speaker 9 (08:27):
Yeah, I mean, if people watch the game against Cornell,
you know, it's a good description.
Speaker 7 (08:31):
Of what they look like and what they.
Speaker 9 (08:33):
Try to do and so and they're like, you know,
one of the teams that has been consistent for the
last three or four years, and one of the reasons
they've been in this game, like us for the last
three years, they've done opportunity to win it a couple
of times, and so a lot of similarities though within
the two teams as Barsica Pete level, and so it's
like contrast the styles. But who's going to make plays
(08:56):
on the big stage. Who's going to you know, have
a day for themselves. That's what we're going to find
out in the next couple hours.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
How would you describe the Badger's style overall?
Speaker 9 (09:06):
Well, it's it's I mean, we're fortunate, we've got a
lot of high end skilled players that like to score
and like to get offensive chances. So it's probably more
of a puck possession game, create opportunities as you pick
up speed through the neutral zone. And then as I
found when I was a player, it's a lot more
enjoyable playing when you have the puck. They always trying
to chase it around. So enjoy the part that we're
(09:27):
able to do well. And you know, let's see if
we can get to four or five today.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
And if you and I were talking afterwards and hopefully
that a title is there, what would you have done
well in this game as.
Speaker 8 (09:37):
A team, Well, it would be the start of the game.
Speaker 9 (09:40):
And they're notorious for coming out and they're really playing
aggressive and you know we've seen that in the games
we played, we've watched them. Can we exit our zone
in a high percent and then not let them do
what they do well? And so if we're able to
exit the zone and then create some of the opportunities
and capitalize on those, especially early in the game, you know,
(10:01):
it's we get to ten minutes that second media time
out and if the scores zero zero, that's probably a
good thing for us.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Mark, I'm want to break this down two ways and
then we'll close it out. Can you put into perspective
You've been through this at a lot of different leables
a number of times. Put into perspective for the day,
for the players. What's just all about?
Speaker 9 (10:24):
Well, it's you know, the final piece to the puzzle,
and you know, I be able to put it in there,
then it becomes whole and you can look at it,
you know, five ten years from now and you know,
reflect on the experience you have this year.
Speaker 7 (10:38):
It's been a great season.
Speaker 9 (10:39):
I mean, there's a lot of great things that have happened,
and this is you know, the last piece that needs
to go into it to make it a whole and
so it's it's an opportunity to reflect. It's just an
opportunity to settle your mind down and do what we've
done all year. You don't want to change anything or
try to do too much. It's just about competing. It's
about going on the ice and playing to win. And
(11:01):
they're able to do that then, you know, my biggest
concern is, you know, if we play well and it's
not enough, you know, then we walk out there with
our heads up. And so my big thing is to
play the way we played all year and if we
do that, we have a real good chance to win.
Speaker 10 (11:13):
It.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Is it the same perspective for the coaches, Well.
Speaker 9 (11:16):
Just yeah, it's a nerve wracking You're always trying to
figure out, you know, have we done enough? And you know,
as I say, the table sets, then it was going
to be served. Let's get to the table and eat it.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
And how about the fans overall? They got to be
very gratified regardless of the outcome.
Speaker 9 (11:30):
This has been a great Yeah, it's it's just fun
to see the developing growth of our fan base. And
I know two years ago into luth we had a
great crowd that championship game and our students get used
to it. So we're on the road, we have, you know,
fans that follow us, and you know, you can't say
enough about the base and the people that travel around
and watch us play, and you can't thank them enough
(11:52):
because it really does mean a lot, and it shows
that the players have had an impact on our community
and the community is willing to support us and cheer
us on. And if we win, it's great. If we lose,
they still cheer us on.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
And speaking of thanks, I personally want to thank you
very much for putting up with me all season long.
This has been a lot of pun I hope.
Speaker 8 (12:11):
So I mean it's a long journey. And let's say
when we get the last one to wait.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
Well, welcome back everybody.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
Very big thanks to coach Mark Johnson, who, has Paul
Brown said, has been a wonderful asset to us on
these broadcasts throughout the season. He's been very gracious with
his time to do interviews with US. Coach Greenholl's just
getting a headset on here and I'm joined by Paul
Brown as well as we get ready for the call
of the game. Got about ten minutes until we get started,
and Paul one of the things that Coach Johnson mentioned
(12:39):
at the very end of that interview.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
That I think is really worth pointing out here.
Speaker 6 (12:43):
We've got a nearly full house, very few empty seats,
and boy, there's a lot of Wisconsin jerseys, Wisconsin t shirts,
Wisconsin hats out there.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
The fans have really traveled to support this team.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Yeah, the frog could be around thirty five hundred to
four thousan or soul and you just hear that cheers. Now,
the Wisconsin Badgers are coming out off too. The Ichier
and the Buckeyes of Ohio State will follow them, but
by oh maybe nine out of ten people in the
(13:15):
building I think are definitely Wisconsin fans.
Speaker 6 (13:19):
The Badgers with a big advantage in the crowd. But
all the matters is what happens on the ice. And
as we mentioned that the intro of this game, the
Badgers so far thirty seven to one and two on
this season, that one loss game from Ohio State and
one of those two ties games from Ohio State. This
is a team that knows how to be even this
incredibly good Badger team with all of the accolades that
(13:42):
have come to the Wisconsin Badgers, the.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Fact that people forgot about the fact the Badgers are
undefeated in their last twenty six games. They haven't lost.
They started the season at twelve and allo they've won
twelve in a row again. But as you said, and
the coach of the buck Eyes pointed out exactly what
she said. She said, Wisconsin is a very good team.
(14:07):
But when you look at that record, that one loss
and one of the two ties that was inflicted by
our club, Greedy, it should be a great match up
here today. Oh boy, Ritter, Rita is full of energy
right now.
Speaker 7 (14:20):
And you are correct. There's a lot of Badger band
sweaters out there, a lot of red that I think
it's Wisconts the red that Ohio state.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
You've been involved with the program for a number of
years now. The Badgers have won seven national championships. And
I know the season isn't over, it will be after
the game here today. But overall, how would you evaluate
in this clumb This is my eighteenth year and this
has got to be right up there.
Speaker 7 (14:49):
Near the top with you know right there, you just
starting on the top and you go down and it
doesn't drop off. We've got four solid lines, You've got
solid golfending.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Our defense, it's better great and they just and they
get a lot. It's credit cut. What are the best,
here's the chance of let's go Badgers. Here's act. It's
really an exciting environment here right now.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
This is a wonderful place to play.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
And you've said it to the University of Minnesota, the
Golden Gophers, who have created an environment to have the
close of core and that is just perfect. You couldn't
ask for a better time to have a hockey game
and a better place to do it in.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
And in terms of the actual game coming up, Mark
said it on the pregame show, he is concerned about
one thing and that's shack Ohio State Stores. Through then
he said, it's a whole different ballgame. And if Wisconsin
(15:50):
can get that lead and then use the rotation and
the four lines and that kind of thing, he thinks
they could be in pretty good shape. But the buck guys,
they've got to have a feeling that nobody's really appreciated
the season they've had, and I suspect we're going to
(16:10):
get them on all eight cylinders here today well.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
Very much so.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
Despite being the defending national champs themselves, they really haven't
been in the conversation guy as much they are living
somewhat in Wisconsin shadow so far this season, as far
as the media is concerned.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
And you know with coach David.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
Rosel, she's the kind of person that takes exception to
that and that uses that as fuel.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
You know, her players do the same, and they're going
to come out hungry and ready to fight.
Speaker 7 (16:38):
Yeah, you can tell it at it.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
She's got them jacked up for sure. And they're introducing
the Buck guys starting lineup, no surprise, end goal. It's
steely and back eventually for the Buck guys. They're going
to have a show on one shide and unker on
the other shides. And her forward line is going to
(17:01):
be McKenna Webster. Listen to the crowd on the introduction
of the Wisconsin Badgery. Amones will open up that center
and done on the left side in the nets, it's
Ava Nick Nutton for the Wisconsin Badgers standing out to
the blue line on our right side. Back defensively. The
(17:22):
opening pair will be Vivian Jungle Zombie Dyna Minnesota and
pick Ky Harvey, who was named an All American along
with three of her teammates yesterday. Eden will be on
the left wing on that side, and a couple of
more All Americans and the Teddy Katzmeyer Award winner Kacy
(17:45):
O'Brien has just been introduced and Kirsten sim On. Their
right wing will open up for the Wisconsin Badgery Wisconsin
thirty seven one and two to their the coach of
the Year in Mark Johnson. Now we're gonna have the
(18:06):
singing of our national anthem and then we'll get underway
with the play by play action Bise who are twenty nine,
seven and three and this matchup for the NCAA Championship.
We're back after this time out.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Gotta go the seven time NCAA champion Wisconsin Women's Hockey
is on the air and.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Wisconsin Stores on the power play game speed.
Speaker 7 (18:35):
Going down the left wing and just the net bango
right up off the crossbar and in.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Now with the call of the game, here's the Hall of.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
The rob Rita Arena shot in Minneapolis.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Welcome to the Frozen four Championship game, which features the
Wisconsin Badgers thirty seven one and two taking on the
buck Eyes of Ohide seven and three three East to
this game. As far as the coaches and the players
are concerned, what are you coming up with the fifty
(19:13):
to fifty.
Speaker 11 (19:13):
Battles to the team just so evenly matched and have
regarding the hut winning post.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
Off for the fuck in front of us, you know
at the blue lines standard stuff.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
I would say, those fifty fifty battles and pace off
which has gone for a law dimensions.
Speaker 7 (19:30):
She's playing good for them Trajectory's good that she's really
becoming complete put braining her shifts.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
I love the progress where she improved the most of
you thinks, I would say in the patients and.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
It, Wisconsin Badgers are dressed in their wide degrees with
fants and the red numerals. They will be skating from
our right to our left here for the opening period.
The Buckeyes of Ohio State are dressed in their red
with black pants and white numerals. They are coached by
(20:05):
Nadine Mazarol in her nintier two hundred and twenty four wins,
who are a credit and the Wisconsin Badgers are coached
by Mark Johnson in his twenty second year six hundred
and sixty six wins to his credit. He's the winningest
coach on the campus to the University of Wisconsin and
(20:26):
he's a five time National Coach of the Year and
at ten times WSCCHA Coach of the Year.
Speaker 6 (20:38):
We'll we'll go a sorry one quick thing about coaching
Dean motherall I was reading before when she came to
Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
They had their previous season before she.
Speaker 6 (20:47):
Started on campus ten twenty five and one, they were
not really a factor in winn to talking if she
has built them into a championship programs and we're.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Ready for that opening face off to come up, and
the fuck guys, I think the Badgers as well. They've
been targeting this game all season long because of the
one to nothing loss in last year's championship game.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
You will put up the radio today.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
So it's going to be Eden, O'Brien and Simms against Dunn,
Amos and Webster for Schule and Uniker back defensively against
Jungles and Harvey. And we're underway as KK drives it
down in behind the goaltender Keeley of Ohio State and
the play comes back out over the center ice, be
(21:41):
setting it up in the neutral zone of the near boards,
plays it down in the corner and going back over
to pick it up as Swiderski Badger's pinned Sims in
prompt tried to go to Eden, but it was cleared
from her stick in the buck eyes moved hop Ice
Webster comes in ofto the line. Webster try to pass
to the far wing and the Badgers look to bring
(22:02):
it out of the zone. That center eye sims with
it in of the line, dragging her toe keeping on side.
Was Egan laid behind the net's going to be cleared
out by swid Ersky on the lead over to Bouglione.
That boogleone passes around over the disher disher head matting
it up the left side, trying to hit mcaina Webster,
(22:24):
but it got past her. Wisconsin tries to work it
down in the near corner to bring it out of
their own zone. Back goes Potter in behind. Cassie Hall
will pick it out, haul up to boards on the
near side. Tried to lead it to Gorbatanco and whistle
and actions going to be stopped.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
That one brushed out of play as it went up
the sideboards near the benches. So we'll get a face
off neutralized just outside the back.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Of zone just underway eighteen minutes and fifty seconds remitting
in the first period, face off coming up at the
blue line of Wisconsin. Gorbitenko, Hall and Edwards are out
for Wisconsin back defensively. It's Kadlowski and Venusio and that's
going to be played back in behind Ava McNaughton, who
cut it off played it away from the back wall.
(23:10):
Leila Edwards thirty four goals in the year, leading the
country picked it up back on the play over the
Venusio who works it up the wing on the near side.
Ohio State trying to chase it down and moving it
in hal with a drive and the save is made
by a FeelA and Wisconsin tried to hold the zone
(23:31):
the Badgers Edwards with it. Adwards turns and plays it
back in and going back over to set it up.
The Buckeys have it with Unker off on the play
far wing. They lifted in over the blue line of
the Badgers, chasing it down as Petrie along with Venusio.
Badgers hustle in behind it at they work the far
wing to come out of their own zone to center Rize.
(23:53):
The play is intercepted by Webster. Webster looking for help
from Joy Dunn. Badgers come back in over the line.
They move it in shot and the save is made
by Amanda Feely.
Speaker 7 (24:07):
So you see that Lasnewski picard and head right line
coming at it hard like they have that all year.
I'd like to see that good shot on that by.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Why good pace here so far in the early going,
you know, Wisconsin with three shots on goal, Ohio State
with none, face off coming up back in the Buckeye zone,
Ohio State at full strength and Amos in the face
off circle against O'Brien. Old player's not exactly getting set
(24:35):
like they're supposed to be.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
They'll take amooss.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Out and put in done. Everybody pinching into the circle
a whttle bit, trying to cheat a little bit for
Ronald No farshade over to pick it up, coming up
vice with it as Webster through the neutral zone, carries
the puck head out of the Wisconsin line, fired it
behind that at Harvey is there to bank it off
(24:59):
the bull wards Ohio State trying to hold it in.
Webster tried to move to the net. The Badger's clearer
to the near corner. Seventeen twenty six remaining, still no
score in the game. They're wondering about that first goal.
Who gets it? It could be huge in this game.
We will get in shot glove say by Ava McNaughton
(25:21):
as Webster Weekly got off a shot. Dad, we'll have
the face off comeing up. Gorbatanco is out, Kadlowski and
Murphy and Hall and Edwards all out of the ice
for the Badgers. Get it up to the right side
of Ava mcnuttin back in the Wisconsin's own ready for
the face off in the draw on the far side,
(25:42):
holding it in as the Buckeyes turn and Zannon is
out with Buglioni and Matthews. Wisconsin moves it up ice.
Leila Edwards cuts in over the line and fired a
shot wide. Orbitanko in the corner on the near side
over to try and pick it up. It's played by
Dick Sure right out in front shot and why Murphy
(26:04):
she had a corner with the net but pushed it
wide on the draw and it's going to roll all
the way back down to the Badger's zone and Zannon's
skating back. But we'll have an icing called had a
face off coming up.
Speaker 6 (26:18):
Two very solid plays by Leilah Edwards on that one
brought it in, got the shot off and then was
in the position on the slot to take a shot
puck bounced over her stick and wasn't able to make
contact with great effortats it.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
Yeah, I like to see her try to put the
puck on net. The wore she shoots it, the better face.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Off will come up to the left side of McNaughton.
They had the face off circle. It's Amos of the
Ohio State and the play Amos draws it toward the slot.
Badger's in her set. They come up ices Levitch comes
in over the line. Was Nevitch down in the corner?
Who watched Neavich and ride in per card. They call
(26:54):
it the hustle line, the energy line. Three love playing
together and they've got a.
Speaker 7 (27:03):
Lot of speed and quickness.
Speaker 6 (27:06):
You never get less than a two hundred foot efforts
And so wasn't She's So's right there.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
Centerates the shots, generates the offense.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Its on base off sixteen thirty one remaining in the
first period, no score, face off come up back in
the Buckeye Zone, Ohio State in Wisconsin for the National Championship.
Down deep along the boards, Wisconsin tried to play it
to the point, but it's broken up and control by
Ohio State and Matthews losing control of the puck. Badgers turn,
(27:35):
they carry it back, but somewinkle angles it around the
boards and Ohio State tries to work it out of
their own zone. Badgers back at the blue line. They'll
carry it in over the line, controlling it oh and
watch Navih and Pericard collide. They lose control of the
puck in Backos jungles to regroup for Wisconsin jungles behind.
(27:57):
Then at poor checking pressure coming from Baxter of Ohio
State also coming into the zone to help out his Petrie.
Badgers work it up the wing and they'll try to
drive it. They kind of lag that wing back to
see if they could get the break. Yeah, because they're
trying to work against the Ohio State pinging them in. Yep,
traded chip it up on the wall and passed of
(28:21):
that pressure. Fifteen forty one remaining Ohio State out of
the ice. They've got done along with Amos and Webster. Defensively,
it's Fragman base off to the right side of a
Naunton on the play around on the far side over
(28:41):
to Eden. Aden is tied up along the wall by Webster.
But the Badgers turn and they'll work it up Ice
on the brake was Nevitch trying to skate it down.
Ohio State's a shoal with it off on the farboards
over the Done. Done drops the pass over to Weymouths.
They move in and shy and shot goes wide and
(29:01):
high Badgers, and they move it right out in front
with a backhander in front of the goal. Was Joy Done.
Can't leave her alone, She's one of their better players.
Right about its out Yeah, and the play just outside
the blue line of Wisconsin. They try to work it loose,
their three four players trying to work it away from
(29:22):
the boards coming over to pick it up. Unker clears
it around on the play on the lead over the
Baxter in over the Wisconsin line. Right in behind that
wrap around in front of that's going to be cleared away.
Good pressure by Ohio State. Fourteen forty one or many.
Badger's moving it up ice potential two one one, Edwards
(29:43):
moving it in and trying to get off the shot
with hotter and going to tackle back goes Minnesota or
Ohio State the other way. Dexter with a drive and
the save is made back in the zone of Wisconsin.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
Up and down action.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
We're going to break. This is Wisconsin Badger women's hockey.
We're back at Rheta or Arena on the campus of
the University of Minnesota, and gentlemen, I think we got
exactly what we were looking for. You've got two quality teams,
(30:19):
the number one and two ranked teams in the country,
and they're putting on a show here in the early going.
Speaker 7 (30:25):
Yeah, everybody's going hard right now. There isn't a fan
being cheated today.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Oh for sure that it is a sellout crowd here
at Ritta or Arena. They're kind of scraping the ice,
getting rid of some of the extra ice, and we
should be ready to go here momentarily. So how do
you see the first period so far?
Speaker 7 (30:45):
Well, I like what we're doing. We're getting a couple
of shots on net to shoot wide.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
You know, we want to hit that net. If you
look statistically at Sealy, she can be beaten, you know.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
So I think it's just in our favor to just
get that pug Don Thatt as often as we can.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
The shots are only three to two in the game
so far, with fourteen twenty five remitting face off is
going to come up to the right side of Ava McNaughton.
It's amos in the face off circled against O'Brien. She
wins almost sixty percent of her face off. Yeah, she's
good in the circle and that's good. That one played
(31:23):
back around on the far side over to try and
pick it up. Badger Simms out along with O'Brien and
Eden on the forward line and coming up ice controlling it.
It's going to be played ahead, Golling get in. Here's O'Brien.
It's cook checked the way as Sims and O'Brien tried
to set it up, moving it in. Eden off over
to O'Brien and she's fell down. Minissot controlling at Ohio State,
(31:49):
coming up ice here at the Minnesota Rink Ritter Arena.
Played around the boards on the near side all the
way back to the neutral zone. Unicer with it, trying
to pick it up in Vivian and going back is Venusio.
Venusio with it angled it off the glass on the
far side. No penalty's called in the game thus far.
(32:12):
Wisconsin plays it on the near side, trying to lead
it out over the Gorbatenko play loose. Gorbatanco tried to
bounce the box, whistles blocksides called that's the Ohio.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
State blue plane. Well, sarahs Wooderski of Ohio State.
Speaker 6 (32:28):
I'm pretty sure saved the goal on that play with
a leave but very effective Pope check against Casey O'Brien,
although I see had a teenage I'm off Wayne wide open.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Yeah, that was a heck of a defensive play and
it's going to be played ahead and going in over
the line. Zannon with it with a nice play after
the face off, worked it down in the corners. Xanon
shuffles it back to the point, there's a drive and
then went off the boards in the near corner. Wisconsin
back in their own zone. Thirteen oh nine remaining in
the period and no score in the game, and there's
(33:00):
a shot into the glove of Ava McNaughton, who made
the save, and Ohio State's did a change up their
line coming out. Webster's out of the ice, Amos is
out of the ice along with Dunn and zumwinkles back
defensively along with Gregman.
Speaker 7 (33:20):
I don't know if you guys saw that Cornell Ohio
State game, but Webster was their best player in that game.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
She's a water buck now't know where she is, and
she used to play at Wisconsin along with Maddy Wheeler,
two former Badgers on the Buckeye team. Co out of
the far side over the try and pick it up.
Bagner's coming out of their own zone, hop ice with it,
coming get over the line, busting to the net and right,
but it steered away n right Picard and was Nevich
(33:49):
out for Wisconsin for checking his per card and was
Nevitch to try and hold the zone. Ohio State backs
it up and they'll go back in behind their own goaltender.
Bring with it and they start out coming up the
right side on the plate of Baxter. Baxter's skating through
center ice, controlling the puck into the Wisconsin line down
(34:10):
on the corner of the right side. Little given go.
Ohio State tried to work in front of the Badger net.
We're down to twelve thirteen remeding in the period. Wisconsin
turns and back they come. O'Brien comes in over the line.
O'Brien trying to work around Swideherski and the Ohio State.
We'll try to bring it out. Badger's holding it in.
(34:30):
O'Brien down in the corner, trying to work her way loose,
tried to center at the Sims with a bucket hole
and Perkinada was Eden but down beneath that pile of players.
And now we've got some pushing and shoving going on
between Sims and also done.
Speaker 7 (34:50):
Got it if Eden could have got that pucked up
because Neely had a right pad outside.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
I'm seeing the referee pointing here. I think they might
get Jordan Peatree for a She delivered two of them
well after the whistle, and they are the send the
patry to the box. That will be a Badger power player.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
You've got to love that. That penalty comes at.
Speaker 12 (35:10):
Eighth nine into the first period and Wisconsin will go
on the power play where they lead the country.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
They have thirty six power play goals, converting them just
under thirty five percent of their power play opportunities. They
are led by Eden with eight. Edwards has seven, six
for Harvey out on the ice the number one unit
that is Edwards, Harvey, O'Brien, Eden, and Sims face off
(35:45):
coming to the right side up Tealy and a chance
for the Badgers to take a one to uping lead
with the power play situation book leone of Ohio State
against O'Brien and the face off cir goal. The crowd
coming alive here. Now can Wisconsin score on them? Power
(36:05):
play advantage? The draw went forward, done with it, Don
goes around to the far side. John working at past
O'Brien carries it all the way in over the Wisconsin line.
Speaker 7 (36:16):
When we get in with a back hitter and a go.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Joy Gon went solo from the picking up the park
behind the app States through the Wisconsin Badgers had scores
on her twenty ninth goal of the year at Ohio State.
Has a want and nothing leave us A shorthanded by.
Speaker 7 (36:39):
The buck guys him the yelded that got somebody caught
flatfoot it along the way. There she went the floor
light of the ice.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Done did took it in and scored. Wow, so exactly
what Mark had been talking about has happened here. A
shorthanded goal scored by Gune and had to play in
minutil zone over to try and senter. Badgers move in Edwards,
(37:12):
Edwards put a deal tender.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
It comes right back.
Speaker 7 (37:17):
And Edward scores the goal.
Speaker 13 (37:20):
Her thirty goal of the year, and the Prodgers score
a short time later.
Speaker 7 (37:28):
Edwards got it back quickly here and wow.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
That was that stick handly received from La Edwards all season.
She's got someone on the right wing. She fakes the past,
beats the defender that drags to the good side of
Tealy to put it past her.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
A beautiful score from the ultimate captain for the Badgers.
Speaker 7 (37:46):
Yeah really probably thought that took an hour and a
half trying to wait.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
That's hard to be patient. Edward scored that goal comes
a grand total of twelve second after Ohio State had stored.
Speaker 7 (38:00):
Wow, we needed that like that boy big time? Yeah,
big time.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
So we're tired. A one holy back cover has set
it up on the play on the near side, it's
going to be dump back down of the corner. That
could have been a huge momentum builder. And Wisconsin turns
in back bay cub with a puck. They stayed in
under the line. Watch novitch dump againt came off the
(38:31):
back wall.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Fly had to cover up.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
And play is going to be stopped.
Speaker 7 (38:36):
That was a good play by Wazir to throw it
in hard on the end wall.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
It comes back real lively. There's only a few beats.
Speaker 7 (38:44):
You know, behind that goal line and net back to
the end wall here and it's alive. It's just live
end wall. Dan o'man we got one. Hare All's going
to take the Drawdad.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
Wisconsin, He's got a goal. The power play goal was
scored by Leile Edwards. Both goals were unassisted, and it's
going to be played back down in the corner over
to try and pick it up and play along the
poords along the back wall in Ohio State zone, trying
to work it away at a chant and from the Badger.
Speaker 7 (39:23):
Crowd of one, we want more.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Dad playing it up ice on the far side, trying
to state it down and the Ava Murphy with it
turning and it's played back down to the Badgers are
going to change up there. The intensity level in this
game is tremendous. Look to that port check by Gerba Tako.
Speaker 7 (39:44):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
Kelly is so big.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
She uses a size there to get positioned on the
Ohio State defender and forces a face off of the
offensive zone.
Speaker 5 (39:53):
Outstanding work in this off line.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Yeah, she just pinned her to that cage almost.
Speaker 7 (39:58):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Ailie Edwards made a heck of a play and everybody
keeps talking the coaching staff. All she's got to do
is realize how good she exactly yeah, and give that
one hundred percent effort in every game, and she can
be something very very special.
Speaker 7 (40:15):
Yeah, she's hard to stop.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Yeah, and we're going to have an icing called and
the draw will come back in the zone of Wisconsin.
One thing that the House State is doing on every
single face off is just abusing the center for Wisconsin.
They immediately deliver a couple of hood shots and the
scout is going to have to assust to that physical style. Yeah,
they all do it. Googlioti does it now, Bax is
(40:36):
going to do it. O'Brien trying to win the face off,
and the puck is going to be played behind the net.
The route over to pick it up. Eaton is out
with Sims and O'Brien on the play by Ohio State
on the farm wall at center ice. It's going to
be dumped down in on Ava McNaughton going back as
Harvey just set it up. Harvey comes out from behind
(41:00):
the goal on the near side, fires a pass rink
wide as she tried to lead it. O'Brien tried to
chase it down. The Badgers hold it in and O'Brien
centered it with a backhanded pass, but nobody home in
front of the slot backup ice goes Webster. Webster comes
in over the line, played down in the corner and
(41:20):
fired wide of wiscon the Badgers O'Brien. Here's O'Brien working
it up ice, coming in over the line on the
drop pass to Eden, back to O'Brien and back door Simms,
and Simms was checked from behind. We've seen more physical
contact in this game ready than some games all season.
(41:41):
You'll be back after this time out. This is Wisconsin
Badger hockey.
Speaker 7 (41:59):
Try to get the rest of this stuff the ice here,
make her clear surface so we'll have a face off
for the right of feely here in our Badger office.
Result and hopefully we can make something out here on
the steps.
Speaker 5 (42:13):
Shift that enry Mile O'Brien.
Speaker 6 (42:15):
When she dropped it off, he'd played on the right
wing side and instead of cutting to the net, she
dropped the pass. I thought, hey, what's she doing? She
immediately placed him the thought on the divine given goal.
It was a beautiful play and they weren't quite able
to get a mess Telly.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
But to make you two of that Tho wasn't going
to fall for him. Yeah, real good play taking it
to the net again. The goal scoring came at eighteen
twenty two of the period, on a nice play by
Joy Dunn. As she picked up the face off, went
behind the goal of Ohio State, went two hundred feet
(42:49):
in length, hearing a part and fire shelf drew a
couple of Badgers, scored a knoll a shorthander, and twelve
seconds later the Badgers come back and shore power play
goal on Laile Edward's thirty fifth goal of the year.
And I'm controlling it now. Ohio State working at center ice,
Badger's trying to pick it up, Leila Edwards trying to
(43:11):
work it loose pat Ohio States pacchil with it, paschill
ahead on the pass over to zannen Zad and tried
to chase it down. Murphy a round over on the
play over to Edwards play a little with it, got
it tied up at her skates, take it away. The
Buckeyes down to the Badger's zone, worked the wing on
the far side, Matthews fired it behind the out of
(43:32):
Wisconsin Badgers look to clear it out. They play at
the Gorbatankle who will back handed down in the corner,
chasing it down his disher and play it around over
to Bregman. Frangman coming up the right side and neutralized.
A pass goes in over the line to Don Done,
fired it wide of the goal, right side in the corner.
(43:53):
Ohio State trying to set it up in the Badger's zone.
Both team's full strength shots are seven to three scores
one apiece and Potter with it back heads it around
over there Wasnavig She turned and we'll play it back
down in the corner and no icing call there and
Ohio State dinching for sull with it. Badgers look to
(44:15):
hold it in. Wasnavitch in the corner on the play
over to Enwright. Back of it there Wasnavitch for card
pick it all up in the corner. Badgers try to
pick that up. They play it behind the net or
out of the far side. Done tried to work it
out two on two. Ohio State coming back. Amos comes
in over the line. Whither is Webster and they fire
(44:37):
it in on McNaughton. Badgers turn on the near wing.
We'll work it all the way back down to the
Buckeye zone. And we've got an icing call and the
Ohio State fans are giving some applause. Yeh calling icing.
They were hoping that would have been called on, that
it would be a swing down the ring, but not quite.
(44:59):
We as on coming up back into Badger's zone. Here
at Ritter Arena, it's almost entirely red plan in attendance course.
Ohio State has got the color red too, but the
majority of the people here are Wisconsin fan I think
got the safe call. Paul around and they try to
move it right through the slot and that one just
(45:20):
deflected wide of the goals. They kept it loaded the
ice Venusio goes down behind the net. The chan of
let's go rend back to the point on the right side.
There's a drive would say deflected in traffic saved by
McNaughton played the center ice Wisconsin over to pick it
up and moving it up ice and with it is Potter.
(45:42):
Potter is checked and away from the play back comes
Ohio Stike Unicer Unicare with it, comes Unicare with it.
We'll play it back in behind Ava McNaughton who swept
it around on the far boards over to Wheden. Ohio
State holds it in shot and blocked by McNaughton behind
then out of the badger's pressure. Petrie is there. Back
(46:03):
to the point on the plate to Baxter. It goes
around on the far side, six forty two remaining in
a one to one game in the first period. On
the play comes along the boards. Gan Ohio State controls
it in the Badger zone. They give it off over
to Matthews or Webster in front and around the boards,
(46:23):
and the play Wisconsin turns and up ice. They come
with it as Sims Sims stick hand of.
Speaker 6 (46:29):
The puck, moving it through and it's going to be cleared.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
Come in front of the nut.
Speaker 5 (46:33):
She went down.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
No penalty call back comes Ohio State. They come in
over the Wisconsin line. Gun had it cleared from her stick.
Webster tried to pick it up in the corner, back
in behind Venusio, tying up one of the Buckeyes. As
Wisconsin tries to get possession of the puck, they angle
it off the near boards, clearing it out towards center
(46:55):
eyes coming in over the line, Eden pulls up with
the puck, fires and over to Venusio with her lost
controlled Badgers dump it down of the Buckeye's own and
it's going to be played along the wall on the
near side. Garbatanco tries to hold it in for Wisconsin.
It comes off over to Edwards moving it in shot
(47:16):
and it's a fluck it up in the air, but
trickled away from the net. Nice play by Edwards, yeah
it was. And it comes back over to Gorbatanko goorba
tanko comes in over the line and a check there.
Back over to Edwards the plane. Look out, here's a
two on one the other way.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
Shove the door.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
As Matthews HiT's the upper corner of the nap her
knife gone of the air and Ohio State takes the
tuna one leave sell of a gun. She come down
the west wing there, she's a right hander. S was
at her off wave and she had a partner with.
Speaker 7 (47:52):
It making a two on one and she wished herself
right into the goal on the long side over the
Globba babra mcguyck of.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
A shot, pack of a shot. Ninth goal of the
year for Matthews, and Ohio State leads the Badgers.
Speaker 7 (48:10):
Yet Matthew said a lot on that one.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
Release liquid about the left got well the last time
they scored. Twelve seconds later, the Badgers scored around on
the part side over to try and pick it up.
Play in the neutral zone, drive to control it and
coming back at center Ice Badgers in herself, but try
(48:36):
to play it ahead and coming over to try and
control it. Wisconsin will back ended along the boards on
the near side and down deep in the zone in
the corner. Was Nevitch over to pick it up. Faz
Nevitch works the board and right coming over to try
and help out for card is on the eyes for
Shoal with it for Shoal and the Buccaneyes, we'll play
(48:58):
it out toward the blue line. If was Hnsen blocked
there and in the neutral zone, take it away at
Baxter carries it in over the line. Baxter down to
the corner of the near side. Four minutes and thirty
seconds for men in as they have a little scrum
going on in the corner and they let them play.
Wisconsin will turn and try to bring it out.
Speaker 5 (49:20):
They do.
Speaker 3 (49:21):
Here we go on the wing near side. Sims comes
in over the line, drop pass over the well, Brian
leading it through a shot save Harvey Young the rebound
and action's gonna be stopped. Wow, Badgers set it up
very nicely, but Tally made the save.
Speaker 6 (49:37):
I could not believe she got pipe to pipe on
that when the Badgers had a perfect move on somehow
she's able to make the person get to stop.
Speaker 5 (49:44):
That's the goal ninety nine times out of one hundred if.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
You tended to a man.
Speaker 5 (49:48):
The feeling on that, I agree.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
We take break. This is Wisconsin bat here women's hockey.
We're back little arena on the campus of the University
of Minnesota. Rad Burke back in the studio of ten
seventy of the game taking care of the broadcast technically
(50:11):
Zack sela Off and Mark Greenhall here with yours truly,
Paul Brown, where the Buckeyes have a two to one
lead over the Wisconsin Badgers with four o eight remaining
in the first period, and very unusual, all three goals
are unassistant goals. That is rare.
Speaker 6 (50:29):
You know, this team has been played so much in
the transition phase, just pumping down the ice back and forth,
back and forth. And that's how I know with those
unassistant goals of extremely high speed first period.
Speaker 3 (50:42):
Yeah, both clubs are working on all cylinders with it. Yeah,
we got full Actually today there's no chuckalut going on
around here. Face off coming up to the left side
of Dealey back in the zone of Ohio State Badgers
(51:02):
need an equalizer here and the play comes back of it.
Upon he work on the far side down in the corner.
Ohio State will jam it along the back wall. They
play it to the near side and try to work
it out intended for dun Wisconsin tried.
Speaker 5 (51:18):
To pick it up.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
Ohio States with it and it was cleared ahead by paschol.
They back it out and with it now is unicare
unitcare back in the play over the Paschule. They work
it to the Wisconsin line. Sims takes it away, trying
to work her way loose. We'll drop it deeper in
the zone. The Badger's on the play to Edwards. Edwards
(51:41):
and O'Brien try to chase it down. Ohio State banks
it around the boards on the near side. Matthew's with
it on the turn. The lead to Don who fired
it down on the badger's zone. McNaughton whipped it on
the wing nearside three point fifteen remitting and it's two
to one. Ohio State ten six Badgers and Ohio State
(52:03):
in the badger's zone. Wisconsin tried to clear it away
from out in front around the boards down in the
corner right side the Buckeyes try to hold the zone
of Wisconsin. Both teams at full strength and they do
hold the zone and fire it and went off the
glass Ohio State at the right point Badger zone. Trying
(52:25):
to hold the puck there, it scoots out the center
ice and turning with it, driving it back in behind
McNaughton who whipped it on the wing near side Ohio
State with pressure trying to hold it in the Badger's zone.
They come back to their own blue line around on
the plate to Maddy Wheeler, another former Badger, laid back
down back in behind in behind the net over to
(52:48):
try and control it off on the wing on the
far side. The puck is going to be played there
and both teams at full strength. They work at a
head to Lailah Edwards. Laylah banks it off the trying
to skate it down as Cassie Hall it's turned back
coming up, pis in over the line with it. Webster
off on the wing. They flip it in behind mcknaughton
(53:11):
and the play comes around on the near side, trying
to pick it up and come out of the zone.
Badgers come back for card with it skates in oto
the blowline for card looking for the outlet, carries it
right out in front and it's going to be cleared
back of ice stones Ohio State in over the line.
It's Bregman with it, Bragman and Dunn and they can't
wick that passing combination. Badgers in their own zone control
(53:35):
it and they try to lead it to Eden, Eaton
trying to state it down and the Badgers getting their
first what they call the icing. Yeah, I thought Eating
being to the puck the game.
Speaker 7 (53:49):
Absolutely, he hustled and won that race, but to no avail.
Speaker 5 (53:54):
Latha did have a quick question for the referee about that.
She felt the same way yeast icing the call.
Speaker 3 (54:01):
We have a two to one lead minutes or here
at the home of the Minnesota Go for women's team
is the Ritter Arena on the campus. It's the Ohio
State leading Wisconsin by a goal, and O'Brien will be
in the base off circle against Matthews and who wins
(54:24):
that draw, The Badgers will for out of the far
side back of the jungles over the Harvey fired it
ahead on the lead to Eden. Eden tried to hold
the zone to play it center ice on the far
boards from where we are and it's going to be
played back by Tealy in behind her own net. Badger's
(54:44):
pinch and try to hold it in along the far wall.
Eden is out with Sims and O'Brien, Jungles in Harvey
and it's going to be cleared and at the point
it's held in by Jungles one minute remitting in the
period behind in the net for Shoal with it around
on the far side. They angle it off the glass,
working it up ice Buglione coming in over the line
(55:07):
along with Xannon and Booglione. Harvey forrester Y and they
can get off the shot. Harvey around on the far
side and it's going to be played by Simms looking
for the outlet on the pass. Down to thirty four
seconds you're mining and with it Bringman Rangman played it
in over the Wisconsin line and Dunn holds it in.
(55:29):
Dun's got one of the two goals for Ohio State,
Matthews the other. It's played right out in front shot
at the shave and Dunn had an open net there.
Speaker 7 (55:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
Wow, that was a break. Less than thirteen seconds. You're
minting now in the period pressure back in behind as
Ohio State turned and fired it right out in front,
going back of the NAT, back out on top. There's
a shot, and we come to the end of the
first period of play. Green your thoughts on period number one.
I'll tell you you can't take a shift off.
Speaker 7 (56:04):
You know, if somebody gets the fuck and they're after
the races, you gotta have somebody better better be with them.
Are they gonna get Like you said, I'm a sister.
Speaker 3 (56:11):
Go We'll take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger women's hockey.
Back during the intermission, Paul Brown with an old friend
that I used to see on the men's side of
broadcasting hockey, Dave Fisher, who probably for what about seventeen
(56:32):
years involved with hockey up in Michigan Tech Dave.
Speaker 8 (56:35):
Yeah, seventeen great years. Still have a lot of fund
members and friends and now twenty at USDA Hockey. So
it's been a real blessing PB and fun to be
with you today.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
I tell you what, We have fun reminiscing about those
days of college hockey though it was a lot of
fun on a lot of different levels, wasn't it. And
quality hockey.
Speaker 8 (56:56):
Yeah, I can remember being back being a young guy
and my first ever WHA game when I was at
Michigan Tech, was on the road with the old Dame
County Coliseum, and I just looked up and saw the
sea of bread and the Badger band playing the Bud
song and all the celebration. I thought to myself, Wow,
how cool is this is a young kid, this is
my job in PR at Michigan Tech, and here we
(57:18):
are a lot of years lay here and still celebrate
the great people in Wisconsin and all the fun energy celebration.
And then when I came to USA Hockey, got to
meet all the volunteers that help you hockey go across
(57:38):
the state in there, just like the people I met first,
including Coachell or yourself and Bill Broki and many others
at UW. So it's been a fun journey and fun
to see the Badgers back in the National Championship Game
again for a third straight year.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
Well with chat about that in a little bit, But
you were here in the Twin Cities are deeply involve
director of Senior Director of Communications for USA Hockey, but
also in charge of the Patty Kasmi Award. That was
a classy event and I don't think it sound realistic
to say there had to be three four hundred people
(58:14):
there today.
Speaker 8 (58:15):
Oh yeah, at least, I mean it was said for
four twenty seating and it was standing room only, so
all the seats were filled and there was plenty of
people standing around. So a great great for USA Hockey
Foundation to celebrate the women's game in USA Hockey as
a whole has always been a champion of the women's game,
kind of the caretaker, dating back many many years, as
(58:36):
Patty Kasmira started in nineteen ninety eight. Is a way
to celebrate the game through accomplishment and give more visibility
to it when it was at a different time. Obviously
it's come a long way since that time, but in
the USA Hockey ran and started the first women's collegiate
National Championship back in the day before the NCAA took
it over. So fun to see it continue to tick
(58:58):
along and kind of on you ual to have all
three of the finalists from one school, but definitely deservedly
so this year.
Speaker 3 (59:05):
The other time was Minnesota goes back a number of years.
They were forty one to er that year and I
was I don't think you would disagree. I'm sure the
presentations of the past were also outstanding. I thought O'Brien's
presentation and accepting the award was pretty special today.
Speaker 8 (59:24):
Yeah, what a classy and talented kid, Casey is. She
just composed and I enjoyed it. It was, you know,
three minutes and she got done and all as I
could do a smile. I'm sure, just like you, and
good for her. It was fun listening in the room
as we were getting ready for the event, listening to
(59:46):
various groups talk and the pundits of who should win,
and prevailing opinion was her from all the various conversations
I heard. And that's certainly no discredit to Carolyn Harvey
or Leila Edwards because their sensational players in their own right.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
We're chatting with Dave Pischard, Senior director of Communications for
USA Hockey. From your perspective, what's state of women's hockey?
How's it growing?
Speaker 8 (01:00:09):
Well, it's really remarkable and you've seen it too over
the years, PB, and just the level of athlete in
their skill level today from you know, I can harken
back ten years ago, fifteen years ago, twenty years agoing
to see where it's competent. Just to watch you just
(01:00:30):
shake your head at these kids and how good it is.
And I you know, obviously in the United States, you know,
we've done a great job and continuing to develop it
across the country, and you know, obviously in Canada they've
done so as well. We just needed to continue to
flourish more across the globe at the Olympic level, World
(01:00:52):
Championship level, THEECH checkie and now they've done a nice
job coming along. But in our country, a lot of
credits is you know, and again it starts at the
grassroots level and volunteers across the country that help kids
like these kids that we have had the pleasure to
watch in the Frozen four here. They all started in
(01:01:12):
a small community somewhere in this country with local volunteers
helping them and really that's the foundation of USA Hockey
and something we always harken back to and can smile about.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
Now you're also involved with the US Olympic teams. I
think four or five of them you've been involved with,
and there's an Olympic year coming up next year and
that kind of thing. I know, no final decisions have
been made, but they're going to change around a little bit,
right They're not going to take a team and establish
them for the whole season. Any idea potentially how all
(01:01:43):
of this is going to work on the men or
the women's side in particular.
Speaker 8 (01:01:47):
Yeah, it's a good questions. On the women's side, it's
going to be different than what we used. Of course,
the first Olympic winner games to include women's ice hockey
was nineteen ninety eight and igin know, the good old
US OFA won the Earth gold medal. And every year
we have had what's called a residency program, and so
(01:02:08):
we take a group of players just twenty eight or so,
and from typically from middle of August or September through
the Olympics, they're together, they train and play games, and
then go over and play in the Olympics. This year now,
as the sport has continued to progress, and of course
I'm sure listeners are familiar with the PWHL Professional Element
(01:02:29):
Hockey League in their second year up and going so
as to not totally interrupt their season and coming up
with a hybrid model that can work, and of course
with the college hockey community as well. I think what
we're going to see is where we'll name a group
of players somewhere in that same neighborhood I mentioned, probably
(01:02:53):
this summer. Sometime they'll get together in August, per camp
the beginning of September, beginning of October, the beginning of November,
beginning of December, and then go over and play in
the Olympics. I think it'll go something like that, may
not be exactly, but so the college kids will play
(01:03:14):
within their team, which is unlike any past Olympic here
on the women's side. So it'll be periodic and back
and forth between the national team. So we'll see how
it goes. Obviously, we want to be good citizens within
the hockey world overall, both in the college and professional
front and I think this is a new frontier and
we'll see how it goes this year. But the good
(01:03:35):
news is it's great for women's hockey because you see progress,
and it's great to see what's going on in the
PWHL as they continue to evolve. And obviously college hockey
is as strong as ever, and.
Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
We know that no final decisions have made. But I
want to begin in one more thing before we end
the interview, and that's paraplegic hockey. That's become an important
thing and people would be surprised how good it is.
Speaker 8 (01:04:00):
It is and It's one thing again we can feel
proud of in the hockey community is our commitment to
the hockey is for everybody of sorts is a phrase
that we used, and we have six different disciplines of
disabled hockey within USA Hockey to give and provide opportunities.
It's very therapeutic in many cases for a lot of
those athletes, which is so cool and I think probably
(01:04:22):
fans know on flud hockey probably predominantly in our team
is well, it's just going to serve us in the world.
By far, we've dominated the Paralympics and we're right there.
I mean, the best player in the world, Deklan Farmer
is from Florida. The success and to watch again those
athletes and our good pound Jatsaur used to coach your team.
(01:04:44):
God rest his soul and contributed so much to that
after he was done coaching collegiately, and it really is spectacular.
Warrior hockey is one of our newer disciplines blind hockey.
It's amazing to just watch and witness and see that
again just like on the able bodies. Aside the joy
that it brings to the participants and families and fans,
(01:05:07):
so it's a great part of our sport, and I
encourage those of you that don't know much about it
to go to yos hockey dot com and you can
click on the disabled hockey section and learn more about it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
Dave, thank you for your time. I can hear it
in your voice, the passion continue to do the good
work you're doing with the USA Hockey.
Speaker 8 (01:05:24):
Right back at you, PV. Great to be with you,
Thanks much.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Welcome back.
Speaker 6 (01:05:30):
Everyone's that's be Off alongside Paul Brown a Ritter Arena
in Minneapolis, where the Badgers trailed the Ohio State Buckeyes
two to one after a wild and Hi sbeed first
period and Paul so much to talk about in that period,
but in the end it all ends up with the
Buckeyes with a one goal lead.
Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
You bet then it's going to be interesting to see
how the Badgers come out in the second period, and
if they happen to get down another goal, that would
be a pretty big mountain to climb show to speak here,
So hopefully I Wisconsin'll put a couple up on the
board here in the period.
Speaker 6 (01:06:03):
It does feel like the next goal is going to
be decisive, and as we have a couple of minutes
here before we get back into the period.
Speaker 5 (01:06:09):
We've been talking about it all season.
Speaker 6 (01:06:11):
This is the final game, one way or the other
of this twenty twenty four to twenty five season goals
for a here dot org is the website we've been
promoting all season to raise money for Alzheimer's research. Out
of our forty thousand dollars goal, we're already up over
thirty four thousand for the season, hoping we can make
that final push to get to the end.
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
Yeah, we'd have.
Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
Four sportscasters in Madison that have been or are dealing
with the disease, and Mike Keller along with Brian Posik,
Matt Lape and myself, and all we wanted to do
is we went to the Initiative to end Alzheimer's organization
and the ADRC, which is the Alzheimer's and Dventure Research
Center at the hospital, and we're doing an educational campaign
(01:06:50):
just saying heads up, this is a very serious disease
and if they don't find something in the future, it's
going to affect a lot of people. And I can
tell you emotionally, mental, physically, financially it does. So we
decided just to do an educational campaign through the season
on both hockey broadcasts and at the same time, if
we could raise some money. One hundred percent of the
(01:07:11):
proceeds are going to the Wisconsin Initiative to End Alzheimer's
and it's a match you run. We got twenty thousand
out prompt and we're at about thirty five now or
maybe thirty six thousand. So if people want to contribute,
we thank you for doing it. It doesn't matter how
much you want to get. Ten bucks, hundred Bucksure to
(01:07:33):
be great, go to goals for eight heure goals for
ecure dot org, and there's information about the disease there
in a way for you to donate, and again, thank
you very much if you do it.
Speaker 6 (01:07:47):
Every dollar you give right now is double pencil that
twenty thousand dollars matching contribution goals for a year dot
org as the website. The teams have hit the ice
and we've got about twenty seconds ago. Markreen Hall at
Tech without Coach. What if you hear in the locker
room of having I.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Said, well, there's a couple of things, you know, get
our peep Google, they're a quick cransitioning seat.
Speaker 7 (01:08:06):
Don't get hitto the corners. You know, if you got
up in the corner, send it to the live side,
or get it out front. But keep bo peep ubing.
Speaker 3 (01:08:14):
We'll be ready for the quick threads greedy. When you
talk about getting don't get pinched in the corners. Can
that mean passed to an area?
Speaker 7 (01:08:23):
Yeah? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
So let's say one of the offensive zone, we're going
for a bucket. We're in the corner there, we get
in you know, helps the help mountain. So maybe a
lot of wing or pass it to an area, yup, yup,
get it free, get it out of the death slone there,
all right. The Badgers will be skating from our left
to our right. Here at Ohio State, from right to
left and they clearic down look out potential two on one,
(01:08:48):
they move it in. They had a man or a
person in the slot. Amos right there, shot and goal
at Ohio State scores ten s. It's into the period
and they take a three to one lead over the
Wisconsin Badgers. On the goal by pashol Wow.
Speaker 7 (01:09:08):
Just the plot from the top of the left circle.
She rips it on the long side. The score over
the blue hand or on the wide side.
Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
Hello. Eight fall of the year. For her and even
strength goal and the Badgers are down by two in
two Ohio State and it's played back down in the corner,
going back over to pick it up. Petrie got the goal.
(01:09:43):
Petrie got it, not show, but Petrie got the goal.
And it's going to be played, you know they change it.
It's Pa show. It's yeah, that's what I thought, but
I wasn't sure that you called it right o initially.
And Webster got an assist on the goal, played back
(01:10:03):
in behind around on the far side, over to pick
it up. In a three to one game Ohio State,
and the Badgers will come out with it as Cassie Hall.
Hall cuts in over the line, shot and wide and
it comes all the way back in the zone of
Wisconsin going back of it to set it up. Now
the Badgers come out of their own zone. Gotta give
(01:10:23):
Ohio State a lot of credit here, and Wisconsin moving
it up ice control to get through neutral. They come
in over the line. Was Nevitch down in the corner.
Was Nevitch around the boards on the play the movie,
get up Ice and it's going to be dumped back
down in the corner. Chasing it back, goes Potter over
to pick it up around the boards back in behind
(01:10:44):
the nap. Wisconsin will turn and out they come as
the Ohio State looks to hold the zone. Three to
one Buckeyes here in the second period of play, Wisconsin
comes out of their own zone to get control of
the puck, but on the poor check Amos holds it
in along with Fresher from dune and Done gets the
(01:11:07):
puck moving it in shot blocked out front. Done is
dominating in this game. He's moving and there's a drive
right on in the shot and the save is made.
Speaker 7 (01:11:21):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
We got to get rolling here.
Speaker 6 (01:11:26):
There's a little lot of surf on that last play
between the stoppages. Wouldn't hold the puck in the zone
and then have real trouble clearing it.
Speaker 5 (01:11:32):
I would need to get the passes a little tighter.
Speaker 3 (01:11:34):
Yeah, bas Off coming up to the right side of
Ava McNaughton. In a three to one game Ohio State
out in front. Shots are now the Buckeys with eleven
and the Badgers with ten. And the draw went forward
and Harvey with it behind the nat A round over
(01:11:56):
to Sims and O'Brien one touch on the past going
to Eden backed over to O'Brien. O'Brien plays it in
over the line and just inside the blue line of
Ohio State and Sims try to back end at centering pass.
That's intercepted. Bad old buck, guys. We'll fire it down
back in behind Ava McNaughton around on the break Wisconsin
(01:12:20):
coming out of the zone on the plate to Eden
backhanded pass intended for Sims. Sims down deepen the zone
in the corner over to Wheden. Ohio State will come
out of their own zone controlling it here at Ritter Arena.
They dump it down in behind McNaughton, watching the traffic
hustling around. Was Petree to pick it up back to
(01:12:42):
the point on the plate to Paschil. Praschil with it,
shuffles it around on the far side. O'Brien takes that away,
drops it to Harvey. Harvey skating up the left side,
comes in over the line on the plate of Whedon.
Try to give and go behind that at the Harvey,
but Ohio State tried to break it up, and they
do and they work it around the boards and Unicare
(01:13:03):
comes up Ice and we'll back in at a head
on the brake, moving it in here's Maddie and a
shot when it just went wane of a goal by
Matty Wheder, and it comes back on the play around
out they try to go back door around on the
far side and Wisconsin's Gorbatenko. We'll play it back down
in the corner over to pick it up. Boy. The
(01:13:26):
crowd is trying to encourage the Badgers.
Speaker 5 (01:13:28):
They are very loud.
Speaker 3 (01:13:30):
Here and coming back through the neutral zone. Leylay Edwards
pension trying to hold it and it's going to be
controlled by Donne. The Badgers break it from in front
of their own net. Jungles fires it off the glass.
Leilay Edwards picks it up. Edwards move it in with Hall.
Edwards with a drive tried to center. It hit the
side of the cage. Haul back in behind the ad
(01:13:53):
out in front shut by Edwards, and the puck game
moves around on the far side. Leila Edward, we'll hold
it in around on the play over the Gorbatanco the
drive into the globe of the goaltender.
Speaker 6 (01:14:06):
Theory, that was a great possession, almost entirely on the
part of Leila Edwards. He got a couple of good
shots in the great job tracking rooth puck's huge effort
from the junior Ultimate captain.
Speaker 7 (01:14:17):
Yeah, I'd like to see her to continue to shoot
the puck just like she did on that ship.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
She has the goal of the game for the Badgers,
her thirty fifth goal of the year leads the country
in goal scoring base off coming to the left side
of they who on the years twenty wins, six losses
in two ties with the goals against average of two
point one point five basof in the zone of the
(01:14:42):
Ohio State they have the lead Badgers down by a
couple of goals. They work it around in behind, n
set it up and at the point controlling it there
is uh Lannie Potter who drove that toward the goal,
but it deflected in the corner that Ohio State will
turn and they'll come up ice. Controlling it through neutral
(01:15:03):
and back was Ava Murphy defensively and it's going to
be picked up by Xanna as she hustled into the corner.
Zannon plays it around look out in the slot. There's
a drop and the save is made as they had
the unicare right out in front with a point blank
range shot. Wow, big.
Speaker 7 (01:15:26):
Range on the shot.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
That was what we got to get to that initial
puck suitter ball. You know we're gonna take it. We
gotta get that great We'll be back after this time out.
This is Badger women's hockey, big d by right yeah,
the burrough bright oh hot Ohio State holding the play
(01:15:48):
in the Badger zone, Wisconsin turning trying to come out
edwards on the play over the Harvey coming in. Harvey
on the wing drops it back of the Sims had
to move there the shot by deal E the reb
in front over to.
Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
Harvey shadow.
Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
Caroln. Harvey gets the goal for eighteenth to the air
and the Badgers are down now three to two. What
a shot on the pass, but I think ship that
was a great play well, sim since took.
Speaker 6 (01:16:21):
The shop of the stave by tee he together their
own rebound got knocked down, went to the ice and
with one hand swatted it over to soon or excuse
me to Harvey on the other side from the hash
mark she berries in high great.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
Score one timer, bingal.
Speaker 7 (01:16:37):
Gotta love that.
Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
We got to see more of that big goal right
there for the Badgers. Man it's gonna be played back
down of the corner, back of the potter. Potter behind
the that over to pick it up. Fourteen twenty five
were metting in the second period. The Badger's coming up
by Tea comes in up the lions, Aiden controlling the pot,
(01:17:00):
laid down around on the far side and Wisconson over
to try and pick it up. Then it's good to
be played on the far side, controlling it gassy hall
back and holding on the far wing, trying to keep
it in the zone of Ohio State. The buccan Ice
turn and with it is Xani Zannon around on the
far side. Xana comes in of the line with it.
(01:17:22):
Matthews with a drive when wide of the goals around
on the far boards. It's going to be played just
along the near side. Katt Lowski around of the far
side over the jungles. Jungles coming through center ice will
lift it down in the corner, chasing it down as
Waznevich behind the gold in the corner coming over to
(01:17:42):
pick it up. Big scrum, a little going on there
in the near corner. Badger's working hard, trying to hold
the zone that Ohio State will turn and out they
come Webster with it, skating through center ice. Webster controls
that take it off her stick, but it's driven round
the boards on the far side, over to Murphy quickly
(01:18:03):
ahead and back d it in on the goaltender theely
and that's picked up by Zumwinkle and Ohio State will turn.
You'll come up ice on the near boards, getting up
the left side, coming in over the line. Is Amos.
Tried to lead it through to Doun. The play comes
and trying to bring it out of the zone. Is
(01:18:23):
Leila Edwards on the pass over the Sims. Sims on
the drop over to Potter. Potter goes behind the net,
turns and tried to center and deflect it in on
Tialy and play is going to be stopped. Good idea
there by Potter sending.
Speaker 5 (01:18:40):
That puck out into the slot. Sim's got blown up
by Riley bring him. At the end of that play,
no call from the officials, and the Wisconsin ban.
Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
Not happy that was unnecessary. After the whistle, Fay played, man,
we'll take a break. This is Wisconsin Badger women's hockey.
We're back here at Litter Arena where it's a buck
eye lead three to two over the Wisconsin Badgers. But
(01:19:10):
listen to the Badger crowd to her by trying to
encourage Wisconsin has k K. Harvey got her eighteenth go
over the year with the assist to Leiley Edwards, her
thirty sixth of the year and the forty seventh assist
of the year for Hirston Simms. That Wisconsin trails three
(01:19:32):
to two. The crowd is showing their appreciation and applause,
trying to generate some action by the Badgers. Here. I'll
tell you what this has been entertaining, asn't it? This
is all you want in the national debut.
Speaker 5 (01:19:52):
But you great teams playing great hockey tea.
Speaker 7 (01:19:55):
Yeah, no, hungry man.
Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
Shots are thirteen to twelve, the edge to the Badgers,
but the lead for Ohio State. Edwards is out, Simms
is out, O'Brien is out. Both teams are at full strength.
May Sam coming into the left side of Tealy, Ron
swiderski with it, turns and lays it ahead. On the break,
(01:20:20):
it comes to Don done through center ice. Don skates
center of the line, drops it. There's a drive and
that's block shot in front came loose, saved in the goal.
I think Potter may have made that save of the goal.
I think she made the last one. Yeah. Around on
the car side, she was backing into the goal and
(01:20:41):
I think she blocked it coming up ice, controlling it
coming through the neutral zone comes Potter. Potter comes in
of the line, carries it right out in front and
a shot clear to the wing on the near boards.
Twelve minutes remaining in the second period, Harvey is coming
out on into the ice. They got action going on
(01:21:01):
down in the corner. Both teams trying to get control
of it that Ohio State will bring it out on
the break they come through center ice, Amos comes in
over the line. Amos try to get the return pass
out a Xannon and along the near boards. Harvey trying
to work it loose and she shuffled it out on
the break over to Edwards. Edwards and Harvey on the
(01:21:23):
rush that come in over the line. Here's a shot
to save the raybound big Revano swept away. Good set
up on the part of the badgery. Ohio State turns
and back toward neutral life and we're at fifteen thirteen
in shots three to two. Ohio State in the second
hearing the halfway mark of the game and knocking it
(01:21:46):
down his Booglioni. Wheeler is out of the ice on
the playoff along with Petrie coming in over the line
is Hall. Hall works the wing down in the corner,
chase down along the boards on the near You can
certainly see why these teams are one two in the
country and won an awful lot of games between them
(01:22:08):
and the play down deep in the zone in the
corner again the crowd trying to get the red going.
You'd think you were playing at levonn oh and it's
going to be played ahead, then over trying to pick
it up, back over to Busio clears it to the
boards on the near side. Ohio State tyrannically trying to
get a thick coming over the line. They got Baxter
(01:22:30):
and Wheeler and it's going to be played back on
chasing it down, going over to pick it up is Unicare.
Unicare carries it in over the Wisconsin line. Unicare trying
to beat Venusio. The shot went behind the act around
the boards in the near side. It's going to come
all the way back over to Baxter. Baxter ahead at
(01:22:51):
center ice back handed in over the line by Dishler.
Wisconsin goes back in their own zone to regroup. Play
along the board. It's near side, Ohio State setting it
up and they'll dump it in behind the net and
done is tied up by Kotlowski and also Amos comes over.
Wisconsin's was nevish back around chipped away by Kodlowski. Juanusio
(01:23:16):
picks it up and we'll work it up ice and
the play comes all the way back down to the
Badger's own. Ohio State hustling back. They tried to center
it to Webster in front of the net, turned fired
it into the pad, whistle and actions going to be stopped.
Speaker 6 (01:23:32):
Who let's give credit to two underclassmen on that possession,
Emma Venusio and Lady Potter. Potter, as you guys mentioned,
half the block inside the Badger.
Speaker 5 (01:23:41):
Goal kept it on the minute Nusio broke up that.
Speaker 6 (01:23:44):
Two on one pass into the flood. Tremendous effort from
the two young defenseman.
Speaker 3 (01:23:48):
Yeah, Usio on that one, and we'll be back. This
is Wisconsin Badger women's hockey are not here in Inneapolis, Minnesota,
on the campus for the UWE Minnesota, and it's a
(01:24:10):
three to two game. Ohio State is leading the Wisconsin
Badgers and we are seeing a good one. Grady.
Speaker 7 (01:24:19):
We are nobody's getting cheated today. Both teams are given
it a full effort. Shots are almost even here, high
field by both teams. Great efforts, and.
Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
We've only had a couple of penalties called in the game.
The four goals are shorthander of power play and three
even strength goals. Pretty clean games. Yeah, McNaughton, we'll go
back in Nappes. She's down to our left. Ohio State's
got done along with Aimless and Webster odo the ice
(01:24:54):
back Defensively, it's for Shoals and Unicare. Simon says out,
trying to win and O'Brien and Edwards to try to
get it going here and get that tying goal up
on the board. Back in behind the net, lay along
the wing near side. Ohio State works it on the
(01:25:14):
near side and Paschol with a shot from the point
put away by Aba McNaughton.
Speaker 6 (01:25:22):
Wide open. Look for Apa mcdonton. She can see the
shot coming all the way. She's never going to miss
that safe.
Speaker 3 (01:25:26):
Great love and the face off again and back in
the faceoff circle is O'Brien against Amos. Yeah, this is
an area we could improve on. First period, he only
had thirty eight percent face off with Hias and the
draw going to be set up and it's going to
be dump back down in the corner over trying to
(01:25:47):
control of both teams at pull strength. Potter is out,
O'Brien digging forward down in the corner, the Patty Kasmier
Award winner with two hundred and seventy four points in
her career, more than any other high hockey player. There's
a drive by Doune into the glove of McNaughton to
make the same toad reenholl you can.
Speaker 5 (01:26:07):
Talk to this more, but I heard you all the
but quick say once. If you're trying to react to
the shot, you're too late. We've seen it on there,
gloves and position before that SHOT's even the least.
Speaker 7 (01:26:16):
Yeah, she's given herself in the right spot in all
the proper down hands out front.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
It sure makes through your.
Speaker 7 (01:26:21):
Work a lot easier.
Speaker 3 (01:26:23):
And the face off the Badgers back in their own
zone with Vivian Jungles are out of the far side,
Eating will back at it down the ice and the
whistle and an icing will be called and it'll come
back in the zone of Wisconsin. Vivian Jungles and Harvey,
they've been paired defensively together all year. Basically eating and
(01:26:46):
south changing up a little bit more levitch and haul
around normally group a tank who was over there, man
coming over to pick it up, eating along the boards
on the right side, laid back down on the corner,
eating back of it to try and pick it up.
Play back in behind the net was Nevitch digs it
out back to the point on the pass over the jungles.
(01:27:08):
Jungles with a drive cleared from in front. Ohio State
back in their own zone, trying to get something going
to work it out and Donald carry it out then
fire it up the far wall and Jungles intercepts. That
was navig lost control, comes in over the line. Here's
done with a backhanded centering pass whipped out of the slot.
(01:27:28):
P Shul with the drive and that's cleared to the
wing in the corner Jungles from Harvey. Harvey turned and
passed it out. That's broken up by Swiderski Badgers at
center ice and coming in over the line with it
is haul. Scannal is out for the Badgers, maybe their
first shift for Scannal and it is back down on
(01:27:49):
the corner on the far boards. Seven forty four remitting
in the period Ohio State leading in the game three
to two down. Play down along the boards near side Wisconsin.
You trying to get that time goal here. They lift
it out and n Right blocks it with her skates,
carries it in over the line. N Right with a
show right on and the rebound came all the way
(01:28:13):
back down in Wisconsin's zone. There are some rebelds out
of the platter out there. I wish we'd doe keep
all pass from Kodlowski over the pacard picked up by
en right shot tip Scannon was right in front of
the net. Couldn't tip it. I write that on the
far side. Ohio State will turn up the far wing
on the right side. They come and they control the
(01:28:34):
puck down on the corner. Venusio trying to force the player.
Badgers work on the wing at the left point. It's
held in by the Buckeyes. Dump it in behind the
app and going over Kotlowski looking for help to try
to clear it out of the zone. Venusio, we'll work
it and oh Down goes the defender and Venusio's.
Speaker 5 (01:28:55):
Going to the penalty.
Speaker 3 (01:28:56):
Bond boy. I'd like to see a replay on that,
but they're going to give Nucio.
Speaker 6 (01:29:02):
Two minutes Canusio comes in. She's playing the puck and
I'm not sure if they're going to get her for
a trip here. She really disagrees and some of these Badger.
Speaker 3 (01:29:11):
Fans thirteen twenty at the time of the penalty, Wisconsin
going to the buck, they called.
Speaker 5 (01:29:17):
Her for a rough and so they extended the hands
and they got her for.
Speaker 7 (01:29:21):
Ruffer up the.
Speaker 3 (01:29:24):
Sohio State, who has a very good power play themselves,
twenty nine conversions on one hundred and eighteen attempts to
twenty four percent and a chance to take a two
goal lead. Thatdrew's Avish Cup situation here, down three to
two in the game, back around in behind the net,
(01:29:47):
went over to try and pick it up around on
the far side. It's going to be played back down
in the zone of the buck. Guys Wisconsin on the
fore check and whistle, and play is going to be
stopped and they'll bring it back in the zone of
the pill.
Speaker 5 (01:30:02):
Well going, oh.
Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
That's what I thought. The brand pulled up back over
to Abra Murphy and it's going to be driven back
down in the corner back in behind. O'Brien went one
way to puck the other and it's going to be
turned away. Coming up ice in the neutral zone. O'Brien
couldn't control it, comes in over the line. Ohio State
will work the wing on the near side, trying to
(01:30:24):
control it and at the left point, and it's going
to be set up with it done this line of done.
Amos and Webster have been very effective. Yeah, and we're
down now to one oh five minute of the penalty time.
Ohio State states through neutral life Hoe down he went
(01:30:44):
and no penalty call there, Thank you. Back to Amos,
taken back by Leilea Edwards and Eden and Layla with
it on the wing, comes in over to Harvey moving
it end shot. Good shot and that was deflected or
pushed wide. Back comes over Ohio State. They carry it
through center ice, coming to the blue line of Wisconsin.
(01:31:04):
Back Booglione with it fired it on the wing, intended
for Amos behind the at Ohio State plays it to
the point around over to Dunn back out on top,
controlling it still with the powerplay advantage. There's a drive
right on and that shot fired by Dumbwinkle Pot of Excelsior,
(01:31:27):
Minnesota coming home to play in the National Championship.
Speaker 6 (01:31:31):
Tremendous penley build by the Badgers to start with, Ohio
State didn't get anything set up in the Bedgi zone.
It's thirty seconds left on the penalty. There's only twenty
one seconds to go.
Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
Now, five minutes left in the second period. We've got
two goals in this period. It was two to one
Ohio State after one. Ohio State ten seconds into the
period made it three to one on a goal that
was scored by Pashul, her eighth of the year, and
Harvey came back with their eighteenth of the year at
(01:32:00):
five twenty seven of the period, an even strength goal.
And that's where we stand at the buck Ey's three.
The Badgers two shots are eighteen sixteen edge to Wisconsin
based off coming up to the right side of Aba McNaughton,
back into Wisconsin's own Zannon there for Ohio State. Murphy
(01:32:24):
of Wisconsin on the draw to the point it's held
in by Doune Don circles back out on top. They
go to Pashole give and go back to Dunn. Fired
it high and wide of the goal that it's played
around down on the corner on the near side. Wisconsin
over to try and pick it up. Behind it at
and back at full strength to Wisconsin Badgers. In behind
(01:32:48):
that app goes around over the potter, Potter with it
lifting a little shot that looked as she intended to
go to sims, but they cause an icing because it
doesn't connect.
Speaker 7 (01:32:58):
Yep, I'm glad we killed that pedally, amen.
Speaker 3 (01:33:02):
I was getting a little greedy.
Speaker 7 (01:33:04):
I was hoping we'd turn the tides and get a
short hander like they did on us earlier today.
Speaker 3 (01:33:08):
That was the first goal of the game at age
twenty two into the period. And yeah, and we scored
to by Joey Dunn, her twenty ninth goal of the year.
But twelve seconds after that, Leila Edwards scored and the
Badgers had tied it at one one and the fuck
is going to be played just inside the line, there's
(01:33:29):
a shot that would up and over the last era
and we'll have a stoppage of play.
Speaker 7 (01:33:35):
Yeah, Sim's got a stick on that one. We kind
of block its way out there by the point, set
it up higher.
Speaker 3 (01:33:42):
Four minutes, fourteen seconds remaining and they're going to take
the official time out. We'll keep it here. And I
tell you what, this is a very good matchup between
two quality teams.
Speaker 7 (01:33:55):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 5 (01:33:56):
They're going absolutely blow for blowing.
Speaker 6 (01:33:58):
After what it felt like a little lopsided this at
the end of the first period, in the very start
of the second period for Ohio State has come back.
Speaker 5 (01:34:06):
In Wisconsin's favorite.
Speaker 6 (01:34:07):
That penalty kill was outstanding from the Badgers, and as
we saw with Minnesota where they killed off that five
minute major to start the game and got a goal
off of that, I feel like the energy's rising from
Wisconsin here.
Speaker 7 (01:34:18):
Later a second, yeah, little the metal.
Speaker 3 (01:34:23):
So they'll clear the ice here and we'll continue. During
our second intermission.
Speaker 5 (01:34:29):
We're going to have a live interview.
Speaker 3 (01:34:30):
With Sis Paulson Well. Thish is working for the Minnesota
Frost of the Women's Professional Hockey League here in the
Twin Cities. She's also going to be involved with the
Olympic team and has done a lot of national and
international competition, and she talks about Britta Curl. We're going
(01:34:53):
to ask her how she's doing. Played with the Badgers
last year and as I'm here in the Twin Shage,
she's got to talk a little bit about the Olympics
and I'm sure she'll have some impressions in this game.
She was the all time leading scorer on defense for
Wisconsin with one hundred and thirty two points until ka
K Harvey took it away from her. Tak K's now
(01:35:16):
got one hundred and thirty six points. But Sis also
worked in the hockey office for a number of YEP,
she's got a lot of a lot of stuff. He's
a multi teled lady. Round back down in behind the net,
going over to try and pick it up. We have
four minutes and eight seconds remitting here before the second intermission.
Play along the boards, coming over trying to control it
(01:35:39):
at Ohio State. We'll work it around on the far
side and they move it in. There's a shot McNaughton
looking for it, puck came Lewis and Wisconsin trying to
get it out. Ohio State plays it around, everybody trying
to get control of it there. I guess both teams
at full strength for sure, with it at the left
(01:35:59):
point for Ohio State around back in behind, then coming
over to trying to pick it up play in the corner.
Ohio State controls it back to the point trying to
control it as Bregman, Wisconsin will turn and try to
bring it out of the zone. Then that drive is
blocked moving it in shot safe. Amos was turned away
(01:36:21):
by McNaughton as she stole that buck right in front
of the goal. Back the other way comes Hall, Hall
comes in over the line, Hall going in backhand or
knocked away.
Speaker 7 (01:36:33):
There's that rebound together. I wish we had somebody charged
and let the capitalize that.
Speaker 3 (01:36:37):
Three minutes remainting in the second period, Badger's down by one,
goes around on the wing near boards, coming over to
try and pick it up and play back of the Badger.
Net's going to be brought out. Badger's on the break,
O'Brien is out, Edwards is out, Murphy is out of
the ice, and they go to O'Brien, but an offside
(01:36:57):
is going to be called on the wiscon Badger.
Speaker 5 (01:37:01):
How about Ava mcconne. She's got effectively a one on
one that she turns away, but earlier.
Speaker 6 (01:37:06):
In the sequence to puck got caught under Vivian jungles
when it sported loose.
Speaker 5 (01:37:09):
Ohio State immediately fired the Sean unit can't put it in.
When mc gun got over to the pipe and blocked.
Speaker 3 (01:37:15):
With two big saints, Yeah, we don't need him to
score another one face off coming up shots are close
nineteen eighteen up and down action, very few penalties. Back
to the setup and it's controlled in the neutral zone.
Ohio State works it in over the line. They're offside.
(01:37:36):
Thank you. Oh so we'll have the face off coming
up just outside the blow line of Wisconsin. You're in
the last couple of minutes of the second period.
Speaker 7 (01:37:53):
I can't think of anything to give this crowd more
of a lifted.
Speaker 3 (01:37:56):
If the Badger's scored next, what do you guys say? Amen? Absolutely,
I love to see.
Speaker 5 (01:38:00):
It, and the fans with too.
Speaker 7 (01:38:01):
Oh boy.
Speaker 3 (01:38:03):
The ride is out with Pericard and was neverage monters
it back defensively for Wisconsin, along with Vivian jungles So
they're mixing things up, maybe double shifting a little bit,
or that's Venusio pardon me know it is Jungleship and
playing it up on the far side, trying to control it.
(01:38:25):
Padris come back over to set it up and in
their own zone. They'll skate behind the net. They come
out on the brake over the per card, back ended
pass on the lead, comes in over the line, trying
to state it down and control it behind the net.
Badger throw it out front nobody home, moving it up
by the Ohio State comes back into the Wisconsin line,
(01:38:47):
ad with it as Baxter and their check behind the
that Wisconsin will turn out. They come, they try to
lead it on the break to was Nevig intercepted by
Paschol Paschol rink on the pass comes back over and
it steered away from Petrie, Wisconsin out of their own
zone to center ice. Up and down we go, and
(01:39:10):
it's going to be an offside call there.
Speaker 7 (01:39:12):
Puck went off the body of one of the players
there and Edwards couldn't do anything about it.
Speaker 6 (01:39:17):
I'm gonna keep calling her number because she's having a
great game. Landy Potter Vivian Jungles carried that puck in
in the way to Ohio State sees deep behind the.
Speaker 5 (01:39:24):
Net, Potter drifteen years.
Speaker 6 (01:39:26):
Center Ice able to play defense when that buck suddenly
spirted out and offensive charge.
Speaker 7 (01:39:30):
Yeah, she forced the player to go wide. Didn't get
even a shot off at all.
Speaker 3 (01:39:35):
One thirty five remaining in the period. Three two score
Ohio State and it's Harvey with it around on the
far side over to Venusio drove it down in the
corner on the far boards. Badgers shot a pinch and
hold it in here look to try to get that
equalizing goal and coming up Ice controlling it in the
(01:39:59):
new Trill zone and it's done and moving against Harvey
done circles through out on the far side, drove it
to one of the net and played down in the
corner as Wisconsin will turn and bring it out.
Speaker 5 (01:40:13):
There's a potential to one one.
Speaker 3 (01:40:15):
It's simp and O'Brien moving it in shot and it
went high and wide of the goal and Venusio back.
Badgers come back into the line. Here comes Harvey behind
the net centative right out in front. Nobody home for
Wisconsin and it's going to be played back. Venusio controlled
(01:40:36):
Nucio where it drives it ahead, that's intercepted, went right
to the stick of one of the Buckeys. Comes in
of the line, boogleone over the don down is McNaughton.
Puck came loose and it gathered in on mcnutts on
her back.
Speaker 7 (01:40:52):
Venusio made a heck of a job in the slot
there to keep it out of the net too.
Speaker 5 (01:40:56):
She did, and I'm glad she did because I was
a bad giveaway and sound right.
Speaker 6 (01:41:00):
He used up at four on two for Ohio State
as they came back all of a sudden the Badger's
badley out numbered.
Speaker 7 (01:41:05):
Yeah, that was a tape to tape for the wrong team.
Speaker 3 (01:41:11):
Coming into the time where we're going to have the
end of the second period. Only twenty six seconds are
minting and winning that face off, jamming it right on
the goal, was Matthews. Badgers almost looked a little careless
there on that face off. Yes, we did there twenty
seconds left. You got to play to the end, especially
(01:41:35):
in Eurodam. You know states are high. They sure are.
The national championship on the line. These two teams have
met in the last two tournaments. Wisconsin won and then
last year Ohio State one.
Speaker 7 (01:41:51):
Both games were won to nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:41:54):
Ohio State beating the Badgers got in New Hampshire. And
here they are in Minneapolis, playing for the third consecutive
year in the championship game and controlling it. It comes
to Pashole paschol played it back in over the line
and McNaughton, we'll gather it in and stop the play
(01:42:16):
and we're down to about eight second trimnting here in
the period. Don't want to give one up here in
your own land, though, with that short period of time.
Speaker 7 (01:42:29):
Need everybody to do everything they can right now to
just get this possession of a puck or get it
up and out of the zone.
Speaker 3 (01:42:35):
And googleone will move in and for the face off
and the draw. And if googleone tried to take a
drive and the Badgers, we'll just play it along the
wall here and kind of freeze it up and whistle
and play is going to be stopped. And that's the
end of the second period. Your fot screen.
Speaker 7 (01:42:55):
Well, I'll tell you I'd love us to slight it
up more shots on neck. Shots are even right now,
light Peter Peace. But we're behind by a goal. We
got to get put that data up.
Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
That all right, mister green Greening our buddy Mark Greenhall
and we'll be back after this time out. This is
Wisconsin Badger women's hockey that we're back here at Ridge
Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota and
the Twin Cities after two period to play at Ohio State,
(01:43:29):
leading the Wisconsin Badgers by a score of three to
two and joining us now is Chis Paulson Sis played
four of the Wisconsin Badgers and then worked with Mark
Johnson and the staff for a number of years, Sis
was the all time leading scorer defensively until KK Harvey
took that title away from you this year. But I'll
(01:43:51):
tell you what, I know, you don't feel bad about
that because she's a great player, isn't she?
Speaker 10 (01:43:56):
Oh Man's at player to watch. She's a great person
as you're a gonn are off the ice, you know,
with with Wisconsin and then the tv USA as well,
and she's a great.
Speaker 14 (01:44:07):
Person and nobody in terms of more than her she
works at tail off.
Speaker 5 (01:44:11):
But just really fund the match of that.
Speaker 3 (01:44:13):
Just what do you remember about your time in Wisconsin,
both as a player and then working on the staff.
Speaker 14 (01:44:19):
Well, obviously as.
Speaker 15 (01:44:20):
A player, you know, we didn't we didn't have an
eighth or eleven team NCAA tournament, so we never actually
went admitted to the tournament.
Speaker 14 (01:44:27):
So it's awesome to see how much that it's grown
since since I played.
Speaker 16 (01:44:31):
And you know, I'm looking back as a staff member.
You know, if you missed all the players, you missed,
the miss the people, you missed the staff members, and
it's just great, you know, you just you you meet
so many great people.
Speaker 5 (01:44:42):
You know, there was a small community.
Speaker 14 (01:44:43):
And you know, now I you know, I worked with
coach Johnson and now I work with a sun printer
at the Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (01:44:48):
Puff So it's just it's awesome you and I have chatted.
We were chatting about this for people that don't know
a year ago last August. Every year in early September,
Wisconsin does their in duction into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall
of Fame, and that's up at Eagle River, and Cis
was inducted into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame, and
(01:45:08):
that's where we got an opportunity to know each other
a little bit. And that was a nice of work
for you too, right.
Speaker 15 (01:45:15):
Yes, Oh, it was unbelievable, you know, growing up in
Wisconsin and playing hutockey all the way through Old Claire
and then coming and play at the University of Wisconsin,
and just to get recognized in the Hall of Fame
with with some of the legends that are in there.
Speaker 14 (01:45:27):
It's very surreal.
Speaker 3 (01:45:28):
But you talked about what you learned and how much
you enjoyed your experience with the mark and the staff.
He In fact, Key sheid, you guys used to just
sit and talk and a lot of times you didn't
even talk hockey. You just talked about what the heck's
going on in the world.
Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
Huh correct.
Speaker 15 (01:45:47):
Yeah, you know when I worked there, and I worked
there for seven years, and every day for at least
twenty thirty forty.
Speaker 14 (01:45:53):
Minutes, you've come down in my office or I go
down in his office.
Speaker 3 (01:45:56):
And we just we just to chat, you know.
Speaker 14 (01:45:59):
I mean, you talked about we talk about hockey, talk
about his.
Speaker 15 (01:46:01):
Family, talk about my family, talking about what my brother's
team is doing, and you know, just I mean, just
such a mentor for me, you know. And it's been
it's been an unbelievable friendship that we've established with him
and his wife, Leslie, and all the kids and all
the grandkids and stuff.
Speaker 14 (01:46:16):
So it's been a really really unique relationship.
Speaker 3 (01:46:19):
Man, You've got a unique opportunity and decided.
Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
To take it rightfully.
Speaker 3 (01:46:24):
So now working here in the Twin Cities with the
Minnesota Cross the new Women's professionally kind of give us
a summary of what's going on there.
Speaker 7 (01:46:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:46:34):
So there's six teams we started last year and it's
been great.
Speaker 15 (01:46:39):
I mean, the fans have been unbelievable, you know, our
tendance has been great. We play out of the Excell
Energy Center, which is where the Minnesota Wild play Autum.
Speaker 14 (01:46:47):
We practice out of Trio, which is where the Wild practice.
Speaker 15 (01:46:49):
Autum and the Wild have been great partners with us,
and the league has just blown up.
Speaker 14 (01:46:54):
It's been great.
Speaker 15 (01:46:55):
You know, people come out and they support women's hockey
and women's sports, and it's just been incredible to be
a part of.
Speaker 3 (01:47:00):
Got some Badgers on that team, don't you Yeah, we
got to have their Badgers, So there's there's a close
relationship with those kids.
Speaker 14 (01:47:06):
And I shouldn't say kids, they're they're grown women now,
and and uh, it's just it's been really fun. You know,
you work with them, You work with them at the
University of Wisconsin, and you.
Speaker 15 (01:47:15):
Work with Gladdell's players, you know, Badgers golfers Ohio State
with the team USA as well, and and just to
get them all in the same room and now I
work with them at cross.
Speaker 14 (01:47:23):
It's it's really cool.
Speaker 3 (01:47:24):
Tell us about currently a couple of the Badgers that
are on that team.
Speaker 15 (01:47:28):
Yes, we have that will put fine Lands coming back
who came back from last year.
Speaker 7 (01:47:33):
We have pretty cool Cirl.
Speaker 14 (01:47:34):
We have Melissa Channel. So those those three, they always
keep it light there.
Speaker 15 (01:47:39):
We're always joking around, you know, we have a bunch
of Gophers and some Island State players on the.
Speaker 14 (01:47:44):
Team too, so I'm sure there's some side that's going
on this afternoon. But they've been great. You know, they're
great people. So it's just gone to work with great people.
Speaker 3 (01:47:52):
And also you have opportunities in the past to work
in international hockey and the Olympic and that kind of thing.
And if I'm not wrong on this, you're going to
be involved with the Olympics, right.
Speaker 15 (01:48:05):
Yes, Yeah, I've been asked to go back to to
the twenty twenty six Olympics, which is such an honor.
You know, we I've worked for Team USA for profitly
on don't all five to six seven ears. I can
can't keep count.
Speaker 14 (01:48:17):
But I had the opportunity to go to the Olympics
in Beijing, which obviously was over COVID.
Speaker 15 (01:48:21):
So just getting the opportunity to be asked back again
and to go to twenty six when we were hopefully
not gonna let the Amama Olympics is going to be
It's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 14 (01:48:30):
I'm super excited.
Speaker 3 (01:48:31):
But yet it's almost like a new experiment the way
they're going to do it. Dot kind of just briefly
go into that.
Speaker 7 (01:48:36):
For us, well, we don't.
Speaker 15 (01:48:38):
Really know our schedule point yet, but it sounds like
we're not gonna what we would call centralized, So we're
not going to take you, you know.
Speaker 14 (01:48:44):
Thirty players and put them in one spot and practice
all year long. It sounds like we're gonna.
Speaker 15 (01:48:49):
Let each each players play with their perspective there their
respective college team or EWHL team or whatever it may be,
and then bring them together. I don't know if it's
going to be once a month, once over a couple
of months you have some practices and have a little
camp or what it has a pictually iron up, but
it sounds like it's gonna be a little bit different game.
Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
And it will be a different situation.
Speaker 7 (01:49:12):
Will it?
Speaker 5 (01:49:12):
I want it?
Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
But you can kind of understand why they're doing that, actually, yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:49:17):
For sure, because you know, I mean, we usually centralized
in the past because there was no professional league, so
I don't think that wasn't in college really didn't have
any competition any any way to practice every day.
Speaker 14 (01:49:28):
So now that we do have this women's professional league,
which is awesome and we'll hopefully continue to grow here.
Speaker 3 (01:49:34):
Now that we have that, we those players.
Speaker 14 (01:49:36):
Can get in shape and they can be playing every day,
so it's not like they're looking for competition.
Speaker 15 (01:49:41):
So they have that normally, and then you pull them together,
whether it's once a month or once every two months, however,
it's going to.
Speaker 10 (01:49:47):
A playout, you know.
Speaker 14 (01:49:48):
And then then we pull all those college kids in
and it's going to be a really usigue.
Speaker 7 (01:49:51):
It's going to be more like an NHL version of.
Speaker 3 (01:49:55):
What they do with the Olympics. For someone like yourself
that obviously have the passion for this work out, what
do you see in the growth of women hockey overall?
Speaker 7 (01:50:05):
Well, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 15 (01:50:06):
I could not make this Wisconsin Badger team or this
Ohio State team right now.
Speaker 7 (01:50:09):
I really tell you that.
Speaker 14 (01:50:10):
So that just the talent level has gone up so.
Speaker 15 (01:50:14):
Much, you know, the attention to detail as far as
you know, the on ice stuff, the office stuff in
the weight room, the nutrition stuff that was.
Speaker 14 (01:50:23):
Very you know, I mean flexible stick. I mean we
got the right dated stick and that's the way you went.
Speaker 1 (01:50:28):
You know.
Speaker 15 (01:50:28):
So just the technology of everything and how everything has evolved.
It's it's just been really great to be a part
of and see how it.
Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
Has grown since we played well and I know you
you're you're a strong Badger backer. We sit here, all
of us rooting for Wisconsin, and we look up and go, oh,
the buck guys are leading three to two. What are
your thoughts so far on this game?
Speaker 9 (01:50:54):
Try.
Speaker 1 (01:50:54):
I think it's back and forth.
Speaker 14 (01:50:56):
I think Wisconsin has you know, I think controlled were
children play a little bit more than Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (01:51:02):
Ohio State jumped.
Speaker 15 (01:51:03):
On to two great opportunities in the first period in
this sport, and Wisconsin responded a little bit.
Speaker 17 (01:51:09):
And there's all asleep there in the first half of
the first top of the second period there, but you know,
again responded again.
Speaker 14 (01:51:15):
So I think this is a big aperience. You know,
obviously the next role is going to be big. But
I'm confident. I think they're gonna come out. I think
you can jump on.
Speaker 3 (01:51:23):
I love that enthusiasm. But Ed, I'll tell you, it
really has been a fun game to watch you. As
you said, there's a lot of talent going up and
down there this year.
Speaker 14 (01:51:32):
Yeah, for sure. And it's it's on both sides. You know,
It's not like one team is way better than the other.
Speaker 7 (01:51:37):
Is a team really really.
Speaker 14 (01:51:38):
Good to the team?
Speaker 3 (01:51:39):
You know, and you look at the Wisconsin team and
all of the stuff that's happened. It's hard to keep
up with all of it. You have three Patty Kasmier finalists,
O'Brien wins it. You have four All Americans. You have
a team that's only lost one game. You have eight
players that were part of the w c CHA All
(01:52:00):
Star teams at per second and third and rookie and
that kind of thing. It's a just an unbelievable season
for him. Oh yeah, you know.
Speaker 14 (01:52:09):
And I think with that, with that roster comes a
little bit of pressure too. You know, maybe you have
that pressure to will perform. And I think these drills
are up to the task. I think they can. You know,
if they come out right away and they put their
minds to it that they want to get it done.
You got to get it done.
Speaker 3 (01:52:23):
No, this is what you hear for. All right, you're
in charge of the third period. I love that enthusiasm.
Thanks for stopping by, Thanks for having me. Appreciation. Take care.
That's this Paulson, former player for the Wisconsin Badgers. We'll
be back after this time out. This is Wisconsin Badger
Women's hockey.
Speaker 6 (01:52:49):
Welcome bash everyone. After the second period, it's Ohio State
breed Wisconsin too.
Speaker 5 (01:52:54):
As we get ready for.
Speaker 3 (01:52:55):
The third and final period of.
Speaker 6 (01:52:57):
This NCAA Championship game, You're read out in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I'm joined by Paul Brown and Wisconsin goalie coach Mark
green Hall and Paul a lot of action in that period.
Ohio State gets that scary quick goal just ten seconds in,
and boy, it felt like Wisconsin had a good edge
other than that, but unfortunately Ohio State maintains their leave
because of that score.
Speaker 3 (01:53:18):
Well, and let's hope that that does not happen here
in the third period in greenies back, as you mentioned
from the locker room, what was the discussion down there?
Speaker 7 (01:53:26):
Mark, Well, he just said, you know, hey, we got
twenty minutes. Let's have our best period we've had all year.
What do you say we're capable of it? You know,
nothing to be left in the bar. Let's go and
don't pass up shots. Put the fuck on that play
our goals.
Speaker 3 (01:53:41):
From here we go and they are certainly capable of
doing that. Yes, Paulson's she's still okay. She goes, they're
gonna be all right, They're gonna be all right. She's
loved that faith, love that faith. In that attitude, I'll
tell you what show. And she's as honest as they come.
Speaker 7 (01:53:57):
So if she didn't take it, leave attitude.
Speaker 3 (01:54:01):
Yeah, the Badgers are coming back out onto the ice
here Wisconsin, needing a goal to tie the game and
then hopefully adding another one or two more whatever's needed
to win the game. I think the crowd which is
(01:54:23):
predominantly Wisconsin, a vast majority of it is Wisconsin. But
anybody that's been in this building will probably leave today
saying regardless of who wins, Wow, is that a hockey game?
Chis Poulson made the comment, and she was dead serious.
She said, I couldn't make the team on either one
(01:54:45):
of these roster.
Speaker 7 (01:54:46):
Isn't that something?
Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
That's what she said?
Speaker 7 (01:54:49):
Wow, she goes, I would not be on the team.
Speaker 3 (01:54:51):
That's how much the women's game has improved.
Speaker 7 (01:54:54):
And she was a heck of a player. Yeah, the
evolution is just an exput that fors upply down when
you feel most.
Speaker 6 (01:55:01):
Cooly when you see two teams like this playing each other,
Ohio State number two with stumping number one.
Speaker 5 (01:55:05):
And which is one of the best Hobbey games, US
beam and along outside.
Speaker 3 (01:55:11):
Okay, here we go. The Badger's stating from right to
fill up. Both number one lines in the pairings are
the same, and we'll get underway and the Buckeyes go
back in their own zone. They fire it out on
the brake, go to the Webster. Webster goes in of
the line and he'll dump. She'll dump it down back
(01:55:31):
in the corner on the far side. Harvey tried to
work it loose, add Vivian jungles over to pick it up.
Jungles with its lotting it out of the break over
the Sims who is tied up. But they get it
to Edwards. They come in over the line, O'Brian cutting
it on the right wing. It's going to be taken
away by pashol at Ohio State will dump it and
(01:55:52):
it rolls all the way back down on the badger
zone at Ohio State getting there to maintain possession of
the pocket the right corner and they try to work
it loose and Wisconsin will come out with it. O'Brien
fires it around over to Edwards. Edward states in of
the line. O'Brien tried to break to the net, went
(01:56:12):
in behind the goal and they play it around and
Harvey holds the point flipped it up off the glass
and rolls back in behind that and Ohio State will
turn Boogleone tried to pick it up with it as
Potter Potter on the wing. They come cross ice on
the play like the quick transition there, and it's played
(01:56:33):
back down in the corner, both teams at full strength.
Potter with it was Neevich and also Eden. Eden is
bumped along the wall down she goes. Was Nevich comes
over to try and work it loose. Ohio State has
got it pinned along the back wall in their own zone.
Eden gries and does get it free, but they play
(01:56:53):
it past Murphy and pick it out towards center ice,
hustling back Potter to force the play in the worner
on the far side. Great joby Potter, and the shots
are nineteen apiece. We're in the third period, Ohio State
leading by a goal and going back over. Murphy with
it comes around on the play over the Potter who
(01:57:13):
turns and up the near wing comes Wisconsin. N Right
is bumped along the wall in front of the bench
and it's going to be Ohio State playing it back.
Kott Lowski back quickly out to neutral head on the
play over to Enright. She was tied up from behind,
lost control of the buck ad it's loose in the
neutral zone and played in behind Ava McNaughton, who cut
(01:57:37):
it off. Kot Lowski back to pick it up. Now
seventeen thirty seven are remitting in the third period. N
Right plays it in over the line, Scandal hustling in
with Picard and with it to the point. On the pass,
Venusio round over to Harvey, back across to Venusio tried
to take a shot but couldn't get a solid one away.
(01:57:59):
Hio state and lifting it high in the air. Brangman
with it, but the Badgers bring it back in over
the line, Sims and O'Brien. Here's O'Brien moving it in.
O'Brien back to the point on the left side. Badgers
hold his zone. They play it down in the corner
on the near port, skating out in front with Sims
(01:58:20):
and they gravel around the net.
Speaker 7 (01:58:23):
Yeah, I don't know if that was necessary.
Speaker 3 (01:58:26):
That's boogleone and play is going to be stopped. Sixteen
fifty eight remaining in the third period. Wisconsin has Leila
Edwards out on the eye, Sims is out, O'Brien is
out Harvey and jungles against the line of Zannin, Booglioni
and Matthews Haasaf coming to the circle. They kick out
(01:58:50):
O'Brien and put in Sims to win the draw, and
somebody got hurt at Boglioni may have gotten her getting
up very slowly. She lost control of her stick.
Speaker 6 (01:59:05):
I think she called a steep layler, not escape lane,
excuse me, a stick to it laid. Yeah, they've been
wrestling so aggressively on the face offs, and I think
she got one kind of up above the breezer but
below the chess pat.
Speaker 3 (01:59:22):
They're going to look at it and potentially see if
there's a penalty there.
Speaker 7 (01:59:29):
That would be what we need.
Speaker 3 (01:59:31):
Yeah, that's not what is needed. Well, we got a minute.
Just mentioned one more time that if you'd like to
help us the cause of donating to Alzheimer's disease, we
would certainly appreciate it. One of the money goes to
the research department at the UW, and we had a
(01:59:54):
match of up to twenty thousand dollars and we're at
about thirty five thirty six. I'mwhere in that category and
whatever you get fifty bucks, it needs one hundred go
to Goals for a Cure Goals for E here dot
org and you can donate there. There's also a lot
of information about the disease of Alzheimer's and I could
(02:00:17):
just say to each and every one of you that
are listening to this, I hope you would never have
to be involved with it.
Speaker 7 (02:00:25):
Yeah. I want to just thank goals A contributed there
are participating in that well well deserved charity, and I
just want to thank all the fans, the mad.
Speaker 3 (02:00:37):
Of fans as well. You know.
Speaker 7 (02:00:38):
I'll end today and that includes some family and friends
back home with the Thirsty Turtle, all the fans that
drove up here to be a rinter arena to see
this live. We've had three support all year.
Speaker 3 (02:00:49):
Oh yeah, this is fabulous, So turnout up here. Ridder
holds about thirty seven hundred. Yeah, they said this game,
as was the game with Minnesota. Yeah, it was sold out.
Speaker 7 (02:01:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:01:01):
I just really appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (02:01:03):
You know, you get the UW band up here, you
get all these bands back, and it just creates such
a wonderful amosphere for all of our participants.
Speaker 3 (02:01:10):
To anybody else, it's depending the event and what a
tribute to we were talking briefly a couple of minutes
ago to women's sports, and she was genuine about it.
Paul MS, Paul's been watching it. She goes, seriously, I
couldn't play on the Rockston. That's the one of these
teams today, isn't that See? Yeah, yeah, we'll take ten
(02:01:34):
seconds for station identification. This is Wisconsin Badgers Women's hockey.
Speaker 1 (02:01:42):
Number one on your car radio preset hand and new
and improved Ihard radio apps medisine. We are ten seventy.
The gang free never sounded so good.
Speaker 3 (02:01:53):
Back with Zach self and Mark Greenhall, I'm Paul Brown,
and we're just remarking they took a long time to
look at this. You get a little nervous when they
take that long to look at it. But I'm sure
they're thinking, we got to get this right. So we'll
see what they're going to come up with here about
with the verdict here all right? No penalty on the play,
(02:02:18):
thank you. That's good news.
Speaker 5 (02:02:22):
I thought it was just a little bit of the replay.
Looking over at the ESPN unger here, it didn't look
like anything to me.
Speaker 3 (02:02:28):
I can see why as you came up and jered
or hurt. But they want to take a look.
Speaker 5 (02:02:32):
But it looked clean to be.
Speaker 7 (02:02:33):
Yeah, that's good.
Speaker 3 (02:02:35):
It's good to choose, okay, and it's good that it's
no penalty. Leila Edwards was chatting with the schole. Obviously
there's a great rivalry going here between these two teams.
Speaker 6 (02:02:50):
I mean, we talked about the border battle so much
because that was Oz and sixth Famer of Wisconsin. We're
actually going to take this one outside of the Ohio
State's own But this Ohio State livry has developed into
the major rivalry.
Speaker 3 (02:03:01):
In college hockey based on coming up just outside the
blue line. Well, I think they've felt like they were
not receiving the credit they deserve this year. Their coach
calls them blue collar, hardworking, tough kids, don't put very
resilient and underappreciated. And it's going to be played up
(02:03:28):
Ice controlling it coming. Webster will try to skate it
down back over the Harvey works it around the boards,
as Ohio State will play it back down in the corner.
Badgers turn and try to bring it out of their
own zone, and they play it Ohio State does just
inside the blue line of the Badgers, chipped away by
O'Brien and O'Brien trying to chase it down in the corner,
(02:03:52):
beating O'Brien to the puck. There was amos and Ohio
State will come out of their own zone and they
lifted eye in the air. That's Unicare, but that's broken
up by Wisconsin. They quickly fire it back to sim.
Sim's trying to skate it down on the corner, but
back goes Bringman Frangman behind her own net and Ohio
(02:04:13):
State turns and out they come shots nineteen a piece,
Ohio State leading in the game three to two. Were
in the third period with fifteen minutes remaining and fifty
four seconds here in the period, big shot there along
back in behind. Badgers need a goal to tie the game.
This place of go nuts if they score that goal.
(02:04:35):
Played back down on the corner on the far side
over to try and control it, and that's worked around
the boards, going back over trying to pick it up,
coming up ice with it and Lele Edwards and she
played it to the blown out of Ohio State. Pashil
gloved it, played it to the ice to Swydirsty who
drove it in on wide of McNaughton. Badgers on their
(02:04:58):
own back wall with it Laney Potter. Potter looking for
help to come out of the zone. The Badgers will
work it out. On the break, tried to lead it
to Halls. Nevitch, tried to chase it down, turning coming
back as Baxter. Badgers take that away. Fuck played at
neutral ice, trying to control it. Wisconsin over to set
(02:05:20):
it up. They come through neutral Ice controlling it and
haul with it, drives it around in behind the Depp
played on the wing. On the far side. Ohio State
plays it out. Move it up ice. Here's Webster, Webster
coming in over the line along with Amos down in
the corridor far side against Kotlowski for the Badgers, and
(02:05:41):
they'll work a Wisconsin tried and Ava McNaughton will cover
it up and Amos put a push on Kotlowski who
fell on top of McNaughton.
Speaker 6 (02:05:53):
Another day, played from the freshman defender Emma Pinusio. She's
playing against Kenna Webster, one of the best players on
the ice.
Speaker 5 (02:05:59):
Forces are the She neutralized you well the far wall Dad.
Speaker 3 (02:06:03):
We'll take a thirty second time out. This is Wisconsin
women's hockey back in the Trent City. Dat Brita Arena
along with brad Berg back at the studios of Ben
seventy of the game, Zack ze Loff and Mark Greenhall. Here,
(02:06:23):
I'm Paul Brown fourteen thirty one remaining in the third
period the championship game of the Frozen four for women,
Dad Ohio State leading the Badgers by a score of
three to two. It was two one Ohio State after
long in the second period, wolf Clove scored a goal.
(02:06:44):
So that's where we stand at three two. The Badger
goals have been scored by Leile Edwards, your thirty five
to the year, and by KK Harvey her eighteenth of
the year. Layla's was a power play goal. Ohio State's
first goal was a shorthanded goal, and we've got eat
three even strength goal. Besom to the right side of
(02:07:08):
Ava McNaughton as she looks out from goal and pulling
it up down around on the far side Badger's Harvey
strips the puck, Kearns Harvey coming up, Ice comes in
over the line. Man she centered it. Tried oh when
the past got deflected held in by Jungles at the
point Jungles controlling it a little given Gold trying to
(02:07:29):
go right on in the front Pacard along with n
Right and Edwards, and they play it back to the
point Harvey can't hold his zone. It tried, She got
to back it out and Wisconsin's got to clear the
zone and ride back over to Layla. Laila tried and
did get some help to chase it down along the boards.
Pacard tried to hold it there, but Ohio State will
(02:07:51):
slide it all the way back down on the badger.
The Buckeyes drawing the face off in their own zone.
Speaker 6 (02:07:56):
Great sequence from Wisconsin, got a couple of good shots,
nice listing on the puck and good support when the
first shout was fanned. And Paul is right behind following
to keep things going on offense.
Speaker 3 (02:08:06):
Yeah, another layer there to make stuff happen. Sims is
out along with O'Brien, and now they've got kott Lawski r.
Gorbatanko out and on that particular line changing things, looking
for a combination shot block here, trying to get that
big body you have Gorbatanco in front of the that
(02:08:28):
exactly Paul. She does a great job of taking the
goalie's eyes away. Not a brading hang in that greasy
area right in front of the blue paint.
Speaker 6 (02:08:35):
And you can see how much Ohios Tay respects Kirsten Sims.
When she found a way into the slot, all four
defenders dragging lambs on her, they realized she had a good.
Speaker 3 (02:08:42):
Look at the net. Yeah, so Gorbatanco is now playing
with O'Brien and Shims.
Speaker 7 (02:08:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:08:48):
The Murphy along with Landy Potter out of the ice
yet of moving it up through the neutral zone trying
to skate it down, Badgers worked the wing on the
near side to control it and Wisconsin will go back
and Landy Potter with it. She can rush the puck.
She comes out of the zone, controls it and works
through center ice, carries it in over the line down
(02:09:12):
in the corner behind the net on the wrap around,
and that's luck and O'Brien turned and tried to.
Speaker 7 (02:09:18):
Put it out from the rebound and try to make it.
Speaker 3 (02:09:21):
There's Landy Potter again and that's cleared off her stick,
but covering is O'Brien. O'Brien with a puck around on
the wing near sign over to Abra Murphy the cloud going.
Now let's go red twelve fifty one remaining in the
third period and whistle and play it is going to
be stopped.
Speaker 6 (02:09:40):
That was weird, and Ohio state states well right near
the blue line. I'm really surprised that that icing phone.
Speaker 7 (02:09:47):
Yeah, me too.
Speaker 3 (02:09:49):
I don't think they've been very consistent in this game.
I don't know about you, guys.
Speaker 5 (02:09:55):
The icings have been a little bit unusual tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:09:57):
Ialue with you on that. And we're at one of
the blue lines and they've missed a couple of offsides
on the blue lines too. Twelve forty nine a remitting
here in the period comes around on the pass over
to Swiderski, laid it back in behind the net and
again Potter with it turned, tried to lead it out
over to Kirsten Simms, but it's picked up by Swiderski.
(02:10:21):
They try to lead it ahead, Badgers try to skate
it down with scannel scandal and Eden in the front
backhander has swept away. Then they cleared it out by
the Buckeyes. Nicely done there.
Speaker 7 (02:10:34):
Yeah, deal was scrawled too.
Speaker 3 (02:10:36):
There was some net to work with Wisconsin coming through center.
Ice still work it back down on the corner over
to try and control it, hustling after it. Den giving
all the efforts she can back to Venusio at the
point around on the play of the Harvey tried to
jam it in toward the slot.
Speaker 7 (02:10:54):
Dad.
Speaker 3 (02:10:54):
The Badgers will have to skate back to pick it up.
Shots are twenty two, twenty one, three to two Ohio
State third period, eleven fifty remitting in it here at
Ritter Arena, played back down in the corner, coming in
all alone. Try to get off a backhander was Matthews,
but it's turned away, then reintercept it. Here's Puglioni with
(02:11:17):
a drive high and wide of the goal. Boogleone tried
to pick it up and down. She tried to play
it ahead. Badgers come through center ice and it's going
to be played by Waznevitch. Ohio State back quickly to
move it up ice coming through the zone back handed
in behind Vivian Jungles over to control it. Jungles comes
(02:11:41):
around on the wing on the breakout and right back
hand to get down in the left wing corner. Dad
will have an icing called against the Wisconsin bad Dude.
Speaker 5 (02:11:51):
Really like that shift from Maggie Standel. She hasn't seen
it on the ice time today, but she has. She
kind of changed the game for the Beantas gave him
a little extra course.
Speaker 7 (02:11:58):
Got them up and stun She's affected.
Speaker 3 (02:12:04):
Hate a doll to tie the game. Here with eleven
o nine remaining in the period, it's backsho in the
face off circle for Ohio State. The draw. The shot
from the point by Peetree went wide. Ohio State holds
it in with swiderski Wisconsin behind their own net. Vivian
Jungles skating it down on the far side, lifts it
(02:12:25):
out over to Enright and Right coming in on the
right wing. Enright pulls up, passes it off to Ava Murphy.
That shot was blocked. The puck loose in the slot
cleared by Ohio State as they lift it high in
the air and Baxter will play it all the way
back in the Badger zone, Jungles angles it off the
boards intended for Leiley Edwards. She lost at Ohio State.
(02:12:50):
They move into the Wisconsin zone and try to set
it up. Both teams at full strength behind the net.
Goes O'Brien on the play over to Words Drink wide
pass intercepted, turned back into the line, controlling it as
amost that shot good pressure there. Wisconsin trying to skate it.
They got done out on the ice with Webster. Badgers
(02:13:13):
come out of their own zone in the break, Edward's
trying to backhand it on the lead to O'Brien bad
Ohio State plays it back down on the far side
of the Badger's zone, jungles quickly on the play, pulling
up and with it as Murphy. Murphy trying to avoid
the check of Amos, fired it out to center ice
(02:13:33):
whistle and action's got to be stopped.
Speaker 5 (02:13:37):
We're inside of ten minutes ago. Less than half of
this period remains.
Speaker 6 (02:13:40):
The Badger's working hard to find that equalizer, but Ohio
State's for checking especially has been very, very good.
Speaker 7 (02:13:46):
Yeah, we got to make sure we connect on these
passes and manage the puck as we're coming up out
of our own end and in the nutra zone.
Speaker 3 (02:13:52):
We're going to take another break. This is Wisconsin Badger
women's hockey. We're back here in the Twin Cities at
the side of the women's Frozen four, the tournament for
twenty twenty five and the number one and two teams
in the country battling it out here. Wisconsin rank number
(02:14:16):
one all season long, and they only lost one game
all year. That was to Ohio State and a couple
of ties, and one of the two ties was to
Ohio State. Badgers have a twenty six game on Beaton's
string on the line here, but more importantly they're looking
(02:14:38):
for the championship, that's for sure. Boy.
Speaker 6 (02:14:43):
Third match in a row National championship between these two
teams Wisconsin and twenty three Ohio State last year twenty.
Speaker 5 (02:14:49):
Four, both one to oh games. A lot more scoring
in this one.
Speaker 3 (02:14:53):
Bad face off coming up just outside the blue line
of the Badgers and the draws down. Wisconsin over to
try and pick it up, and Eden with it turned
in back hand of it in the corner. Was Nevich
hustling back to try and pick it up. Will Brian
comes over to help out was Nevig and they bank
it back to the point over the Harvey comes around
(02:15:14):
over to Venusio with a shot tip and was Nevitch
behind the goal. They got Eden out in front. Was
Nevitch in front of the goal, and there's a pile
up of players and beneath it somewhere lies the buck
but not in the goal.
Speaker 7 (02:15:28):
But that's what we got to do, is just get
tucks to the neck all that traffic, capitalize out a
rebound because it'll be what eventually.
Speaker 6 (02:15:36):
Got shot from the new field from the point in
a hand of an outstitched hand for the hill Stay
defender and fluttered towards the games just just live nine
one remaining.
Speaker 3 (02:15:47):
Both teams had full strength and the face off and
Ohio State will angle it off the far wall at
center Ice trying to knock it down and control place.
Play by Potter that was and it comes in over
the line and the Badgers are offside at the blue line.
Speaker 6 (02:16:05):
I voted just a moment ago for the All Tournament
seam and Lady Potter was one of my choices for
defense for this game. She has had a phenomenal game
for the Badger She's keeping them alive and Center Ice
ended the defense it zone do a.
Speaker 3 (02:16:18):
Lot of good things today at number twenty two and
the face off coming up, well, we need somebody to
light the lamp to tie the game. And with it,
here's a shot by Sims went off and wide back
in behind the hall. Played it off the back wall
and Badger Sims along with Edwards trying to hold the zone.
(02:16:40):
Ohio State will carry it up Ice with it dun
comes in of the line moving with Webster with dun
down in the corner, forcing the play wide. Edward's back
in behind over to Ava Murphy. Ava proovals up and
then fires it out. On the break up. The near
wing comes haul in over the line, all looking for
(02:17:01):
it and played it in on the goaltender. That's steely
and she casually put it away.
Speaker 7 (02:17:06):
In the glove.
Speaker 3 (02:17:09):
Well, Zach, you were putting out lady Potter. She just
did a great job at taking that bungay wide and
depended it all the way to the wall.
Speaker 5 (02:17:17):
She's playing like way more than a sophomore in this game.
Really with an experience.
Speaker 7 (02:17:20):
We get that right.
Speaker 3 (02:17:22):
O'Brien eden out now and Wisconsin was Nevitch is out.
They are really changing things around, looking for something to
work here, playing it up Ice trying to control it.
They come in over the line and it's going to
be broken up and Ohio State at center Ice turning
(02:17:42):
and Booglione played it in behind Ava quickly out on
the break near boards, badgers through center Ice. O'Brien is
tied up and bumped away from the play coming in
over the line, It's was Nevitch. Was Nevitch cutting tried
to center it. Nobody home Harvey at Tom at the
point controlling the puck, pulls up band on the drive,
(02:18:04):
comes around on the play and Ohio State turns and
they'll play it up the ice, flip down on the
corner on the far side and chasing it there as
wheeler wheeler in the corner, trying to get something going.
The Badgers work it but for Schul with it down
on the corner on the far side, goes around to
(02:18:24):
the near boards, controlling it for sure with it, and
then they play it behind that and moving it in.
There's a drive and then win why Wisconsin works the
near wing in their own zone, trying to get something
set up to bring it out. They go rinklat on
the play, coming through center ice with it, Scannal trying
to pick it out. Scannal does, but it's held in.
(02:18:47):
Now off over to en right. Scandal whipped it toward
the front of the gold turned back coming up ice
in over the line with it is done, done and
the Badger's forced to play with n ride great along
the boards on the far side. Six fifty two remitting
in the third period back over to try and control it,
trying to work it out of the zone. Play at center,
(02:19:10):
Ice over to pick it up. Ohio State controls it
and the scoreboard three to two and whether it is
for card for card with a fuck turn, tried to
play it ahead, back in behind Wisconsin around over trying
to control it behind the that over to pick it up,
and it goes right in on Ava McNaughton, who covered
(02:19:32):
it up and we're down to six twenty three remaining
in regulation.
Speaker 6 (02:19:36):
Claire Enry with a phenomenal backtrack earlier in that Steve
Wentz to get back and then play defense for the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (02:19:42):
For his work.
Speaker 7 (02:19:43):
Yeah, that was a great play.
Speaker 3 (02:19:46):
Three to two Ohio State six twenty three remainting in
the third period and the crowd doing everything they can
to encourage the battery. You can see a lot of
worried faces on the part of the Cardinal and white
in the building. And it's going to be played around
(02:20:07):
on the far side over to try and controlled it
and the play along the far boards the Buckeyes back
in behind the back over to Lannie Potter. Potter works
it up Ice on the break in the neutral zone,
broken up by Ohio State in front of the Badger bench,
Wisconsin trying to control it. Ohio State does with Amos.
(02:20:28):
They come in over the line shot and went off
the glass of the stick of Amos. Badgers will work
it out toward the blue line of Ohio State back
over to control that is brigman Off on the far wing.
They come to the blue line of Rasconda. Great job
by Sims and O'Brien. O'Brien find Sims in the high slot,
so with Eerski gets her back.
Speaker 7 (02:20:48):
And I like it when I see Sims O'Brien coming
in that I have hope for something good to happen.
Speaker 3 (02:20:54):
Eden is out with sim Zion base Off coming up.
The crowd really coming alive. Luccio, I think we have
a time out here. The referee signaling timeout. That time
out has been whistled. We'll take our lesk. This is
Wisconsin Badgers women's hockey. You've played forty hockey games so
(02:21:17):
far this season, you've lost only one, You've been ranked
number one all season long, you've won numerous postseason awards,
and you got five minutes to tie the game.
Speaker 7 (02:21:32):
Yeah, you want to who's up here? This is the
time to do it, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:21:40):
Ohio State's at that time out.
Speaker 5 (02:21:42):
They wanted to set up their defense.
Speaker 6 (02:21:43):
I think because the face off is coming in their zone,
the Badgers will never have a better opportunity than right
now to use the damage.
Speaker 3 (02:21:50):
So we'll see who's out. Heaton is out, Harvey's out,
Jungle's out, Sims and O'Brien. Let's the de this comedy
going into that. Three all Americans out of the ice
and the dra goes forward around on the far side
over to pick it up. Harvey back down on the corner,
(02:22:10):
Aiden trying to hold the zone. Ohio State turns and
up ice. They come on the right side. Dodgers try
to control it in the neutral zone. Harvey tried to
advance the puck and that's broken up. Back in over
the line of Ohio State, Eden along with Sims and
O'Brien try to get something going googly. One turns it
(02:22:30):
around and she'll play it back in over the Wisconsin line.
Wisconsin turns that back. Here comes O'Brien in over the
line and it's going to be played. O'Brien deep to
set it up behind the app also there as Sims
and Eden in frop. Sims and Eden and O'Brien try
(02:22:51):
to control it, but she's going to be played up
the ice and chasing it down is done down over
to pick it up. She hustled to the puck. There
was a got almost tipped out front. Received there four
minutes remitting in regulation time. Badgers need one to tie
the game, and the puck is loose along on the
near side down on the zone of Wisconsin.
Speaker 5 (02:23:13):
The here go Badgers. The fans doing.
Speaker 3 (02:23:16):
Everything they can to encourage the cardinal in white turning
with it and come it over to pick it up.
Comes in over the line with it as Harvey. Harvey
tried to work it through back over to and the
drive taken. Ohio State breaks that up. Badgers try to
hold the zone, play along the boards on the far side.
Wisconsin holds his own over to Harvey, back over to Layley,
(02:23:40):
Edwards back going over met me with the drive. The
puck loose clear to the corner on the near side,
coming up ice controlling it its wheeler comes in over
the line. Mattie Wheeler will dump it in behind the
Badger net three minutes and ten seconds amitting it regulation time.
It's Ohio State by a goal scandal picks it up
(02:24:01):
for Wisconsin, skating through neutralize back getting it down to
the corner on the left side. Unitare back drove over
to try and pick it up for Cart holding the
zone for Card will cycle it around over the Scannel
who had her stick held up around the car side.
Wisconsin trying to control it down in the corner. Play
(02:24:21):
as Wisconsin works it back to the point over the Waver,
Murphy with a drive. The puck team loose along the
boards on the near side. Two thirty five, remitting it
regulation time. Back's over to Waver Murphy around on the pass.
Murphy gets it back, Murphy fires a shot, it's blocked.
Murphy controls it between the dots out on top and
(02:24:43):
a drive there and it's going to be cleared by Zannon.
Zannon tried to work it down to the corner. Badger
change it up. Two fifteen remitting coming out on the ice.
Is O'Brien around on the car side. Shot kicked the way.
They get Sims and O'Brien back out on the ice.
We're down to two minutes remaining in regulation time. We'll
(02:25:03):
watch the sea when Ava mcdotton goes off, her Shims
comes in over the line trying to control it for
Ronald to play over to O'Brien back out on top
over the Venustio dad whistle.
Speaker 18 (02:25:16):
And why is going to be stopped six? Six too
many skaters against Ohio State. Yeah, they've got six on
the ice right now. Packers are going to the power playing.
Speaker 3 (02:25:28):
One minute and fifty sack as remaining, the Badgers are
going to get a power play opportunity. Wow boy, wow,
this is huge.
Speaker 7 (02:25:45):
Without a doubt, great opportunity to capitalize on something here
to notch it up for the minute.
Speaker 6 (02:25:50):
Fifty to go talk here. What an effort by the Padgers.
And how about Maggie Scannell. We talked about players playing
up to their experience.
Speaker 5 (02:25:58):
She picks up a puppet center ice an open look
to head right in instead her teams season She cuts
all the way across to the opposite.
Speaker 6 (02:26:05):
Side, gets her team enough time to get on the
ice that support her once she's in, leads to sustain's
own time, which stead leads to the too many skater battleman.
Speaker 3 (02:26:13):
Yeah, she wisely dumped it in and.
Speaker 7 (02:26:15):
Then sports that card down the.
Speaker 3 (02:26:16):
Ree games and that you know, guys, Mark Johnson set
before the game. If we play a complete game and
we don't win, I'm okay with it. Obviously you want
to win, but he said, if we can look in
the mirror and say we gave it our best stafford
and game off short, that's all part.
Speaker 5 (02:26:38):
Of the sport in that ten.
Speaker 3 (02:26:39):
Do you think this kind of game that sat category.
It's pretty close.
Speaker 7 (02:26:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:26:44):
I don't think the guys is gonna be too unhappy
with the efflic they've put out in this. We've seen
so many players contributing.
Speaker 3 (02:26:50):
They're just facing an.
Speaker 5 (02:26:51):
Extremely up team in Ohio State. But it is not
done yet. Minute fifty ath power playtime fort Council.
Speaker 3 (02:26:59):
So here we go the last one minute and fifty
second and Mark is chatting with his team. I'm trying
to get him to get that time goal. And let's
see who's out. I'm it'll be Sims along with O'Brien, Harvey,
Eden and Leyley Edward. Let's see that company that's the
(02:27:22):
number one goal power play unit. And if you haven't
gotten still a net one fifty remedtican pregnantication time and
the fum's back to the point it gets past Harvey's
and going back down is Aba mcnugan, wh'll sweep it
around on the far side. Badger's one thirty seven remaining here,
(02:27:42):
they'll play it up ice and controlling it. It's Wisconsin
losing patrol of the puck and they'll don't put back
down on his zone. One twenty seven Remedican regulation time.
Badger's on the power play, down by a goal, they'll
try to move it through center ice, im over the line,
and Ohio State will jump it out of the zone.
(02:28:04):
Down to one fourteen reminting in regulation time. Wisconsin works
throw center eye. O'Brien comes in over the line, pulls
up on the plate to the point, but not on
the pass to Sims. Extra attacker out in the ice
with it a Sims back over to O'Brien. O'Brien de
Laylee Edwards in front, trebble a shot and it's clear
(02:28:27):
to the corner on the far side. Forty eight seconds
remitting in regulation time. Badgers need a goal, they give
it to Harvey n Harvey tried to go back to
Leylee Edwards had a chance thirty seven seconds to go.
Speaker 7 (02:28:43):
The goalie doesn't have a.
Speaker 3 (02:28:44):
Stadgers go to set it up because she's playing without
a stick. O'Brien with a shot, it's down in the corner,
back over to Layle Edwards. We got twenty five seconds
remnting she's playing without a stick shot oh and was
ever had a change to lift it over the pad
and she couldn't do it as their goal Cander was
(02:29:07):
playing without a stack man. What shook the weave on
and it went off the fight and then they really
got it.
Speaker 7 (02:29:15):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (02:29:17):
The shots from Layla Edwards was perfect and as he said,
whilest Nevis charged dadd was bouncing.
Speaker 5 (02:29:22):
She ticked it up high enough, but it was just
off angle left pop the iron.
Speaker 6 (02:29:26):
It kicked out. Jeely was hopeless in that situation. She
had no chance to get it, but the iron says
the Buckeyes. And I believe now we may have a
challenge from coach Johnson because earlier in that sequence, Layla Edwards.
Speaker 5 (02:29:39):
Was pointing at the goal making the goal signal like
a referee would. It's possible they're going to challenge her
goal earlier in.
Speaker 3 (02:29:45):
The sequence and she if that.
Speaker 5 (02:29:50):
Will take a look, boy, that would be something else.
I don't see if that is, that's what the referee said.
Speaker 3 (02:29:56):
They're gonna challenge, so we'll get in. They'll take a
solid look at this one. The Badgers have eighteen seconds remaining. Leila,
Edwards and Harvey and I don't know what Layla's saying
to the official, but maybe telling her something to look
(02:30:19):
for right that she saw.
Speaker 5 (02:30:21):
Possibly, Yeah, Layla was behind the net on that sequence.
And as soon as Teely's spelled.
Speaker 6 (02:30:26):
Out this was before the Lognmbers pass. Yeah, Layla started
signaling that the buck was in. She clearly felt like
a toc off the.
Speaker 3 (02:30:33):
Line, so we'll get a break.
Speaker 7 (02:30:37):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:30:38):
One of the better games in a long time. All
I'll tell you, if.
Speaker 7 (02:30:42):
You're looking to see a close pabtest, don't.
Speaker 5 (02:30:45):
Get any higher than this.
Speaker 3 (02:30:47):
Regardless of the outcome. It's just a great, great hockey game, fight,
wonderful team. They're going to take a number of looks
at it, yeah, to see what the outcome of this
could be. If it is not a goal, the Badgers
will have eight eighteen point nine seconds remaining on the
(02:31:13):
power play.
Speaker 5 (02:31:15):
Well, from the standpoint of strategy, I think this makes
all the sense in the world. You have the time
out to spend.
Speaker 6 (02:31:20):
This works in effect of the time out, you get
the time to recoop with your team. Anyway, why not
go for the goal and if you don't get it.
You're all set to these last three.
Speaker 7 (02:31:27):
Two point on why stay have a time out? Let
it rat the bar? Get you know otherwise.
Speaker 3 (02:31:32):
Exactly so they're still looking at it over there. This
is up three to two is the score. Ohio State
score to eight twenty two of the first period, I
assisted and the Buckeyes got the lead off guns stick
(02:31:52):
or twenty ninth goal of the year. That was a shorthander.
At eight thirty four of the first period, Leylee Edwards
got our thirty fifth goal of the year, Eaton got
an assist on it. You're thirty third of the year,
and then Ohio State scored at fourteen forty four of
the period and getting the goal with Matthews for her
(02:32:14):
it was her ninth of the year. In the second period,
Ohio State took a three to one lead and getting
the goal was for Shoal her eighth of the year,
one assist going to Matthews and if I. Twenty seven
of the period, kk Harvey scored her eighteenth goal of
the year, and Layla Edwards got an assist her thirty
(02:32:36):
sixth of the year, and Kirsten Simms her forty seventh.
Speaker 7 (02:32:40):
Of the year.
Speaker 6 (02:32:41):
Less agis the crazoe number thirty fourth for Ohio stages
over in the Zamboni tunnel, and she has a look
of the screen.
Speaker 5 (02:32:47):
She's been giving thumbs up to her teammates.
Speaker 6 (02:32:49):
But I don't know what to make of back. But
right now she's not saying anything as the repsican ready.
Speaker 3 (02:32:53):
To come back.
Speaker 7 (02:32:56):
They're taking quite a while here. Yeah, it must have
word has taken a good want to look at obviously.
Speaker 5 (02:33:02):
Musty close whatever it is, we're allowed to get the call.
Speaker 3 (02:33:07):
Yeah, we're gonna get it here, come it up.
Speaker 5 (02:33:16):
It's a good girl. It's a good girl for the Madgers.
Speaker 3 (02:33:20):
Whoa, it's a tie game.
Speaker 6 (02:33:25):
No, excuse me, it's a penalty shot. It's about to
be a penalty shot for Wisconsin. Oh my goodness, Oh
my gosh, who do you pick for?
Speaker 3 (02:33:38):
Oh geez, let's see who's gonna take it. We've got
a penalty shot coming up.
Speaker 6 (02:33:44):
So it must have been that a Ohio State skater
got on top of it in the crease Robert there
to generate the penalty shot for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (02:33:53):
Man, it's gonna be is it gonna be Shims? It
might be Shims or O'Brien. See it's gonna be one
of those two.
Speaker 5 (02:34:02):
They're putting their heads together.
Speaker 3 (02:34:05):
And O'Brien is chatting with Sims and telling her what
to do. It's gonna be Kirsten Simms with an opportunity
to tie this game for the Wisconsin Baners. Kirsten Sims
stitting back in the zone. She's gonna pick up the
fucket sent her eyes and she comes in all alone
(02:34:27):
against the goaltender. Ears. Kirsten Sims, will we get in
shut the downs?
Speaker 2 (02:34:34):
She scares and tied the game. She scares and ties
the game for the Wisconsin Rogers.
Speaker 7 (02:34:42):
Undeliverable.
Speaker 3 (02:34:44):
Kirsten Sims put a unique and a nifty move on
the goaltender and she ties.
Speaker 2 (02:34:51):
The game at three praise.
Speaker 5 (02:34:54):
She has my eyes going in circle.
Speaker 8 (02:34:56):
There.
Speaker 6 (02:34:56):
What a bit of stickingling by Sims forces heeling's a
fight on the blocker side, takes the pack off side.
Speaker 5 (02:35:03):
For the score.
Speaker 13 (02:35:04):
She could have candles packed and I'm pushing a broom
closet with that boom sheet.
Speaker 3 (02:35:13):
The hole. Never have it sain hug. Yeah, I don't
vot deely because I'll tell you wow. And now there's
still nineteen seconds left in the game. Yeah, Yeah, it's
not over yet. She did well.
Speaker 6 (02:35:27):
And this is the thing I was considering, so that
that Kenny shot the infection occurred well before eighteen point
nine because we kept playing for Puato Wanta after that.
Speaker 5 (02:35:36):
I wonder if we're going to reset the the BAC
a little bit here.
Speaker 7 (02:35:39):
Well, I'm wonder too, do we still any play with
a man a badagains as well?
Speaker 6 (02:35:43):
When I believe you exactly this kenany shot to not
was not related to the.
Speaker 11 (02:35:48):
Earlier team in the skater path, Vanna is still in
the mach for the lucky So wow got eighteen point
nine seconds style, which like shames as you said, Chad
that either way, I didn't play in the bounce of
the game regardless of I'm a type with.
Speaker 7 (02:36:04):
A person advantage.
Speaker 3 (02:36:08):
The unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (02:36:10):
This is a flash.
Speaker 3 (02:36:11):
I'll tell you. All of these fans came for the
entire seat. They only need the edge. What a game.
Speaker 7 (02:36:17):
I can bet the folks mat Coba and Kirsty Turtle
are enjoying this.
Speaker 3 (02:36:21):
My goodness. Wow man, it's three three up on the
board as Kirsten Sims got the goal. Man them, they're
twenty fourth goal of the year. So we're move You're
out of position. Our votes for the All.
Speaker 5 (02:36:40):
Tournament team were two before five minutes at the end
of the third period, I would like to go back
and make exiens and put Preston sives on.
Speaker 3 (02:36:48):
There's something there and Wisconsin Ohio State has four players
out of the eight the Badgers have. O'Brien is out,
Eaton is out, Edwards is out, and Simms is out. Yeah,
wouldn't this be something else?
Speaker 7 (02:37:06):
Well?
Speaker 5 (02:37:07):
All four Patty casts off ten finalists.
Speaker 3 (02:37:10):
Yeah, coming up and the Badgers could they score again
and win the game? We'll find out. They'll play it
back down to the corner. We got fifteen point nine
seconds reminting. Wisconsin goes back over to pick it up.
They try to head met it out over the centerais
seven seconds remaining in the game. Wisconsin will work at
(02:37:30):
their trying to lead a path through Centeraise make sure
and we've come to the end of regulation time. But
it's tied up at three three Oh god, as the
Badgers get a heavily shot and score at the nineteen
forty one mark of the period. Man oh man, I'll
(02:37:53):
tell you who's a boy. I never seen anything like
get this though.
Speaker 6 (02:37:59):
How many sports movies have you seen where something like
this happens and.
Speaker 5 (02:38:03):
You're like, well, it's a movie, said where we are
for real?
Speaker 6 (02:38:06):
A penalty stove which is nineteen seconds ago. Christenson's equalizes.
Speaker 5 (02:38:11):
She's the matches hope for the national championship A lile.
Speaker 3 (02:38:15):
Yeah, the Buck guys are stating off the ice and Wisconsin.
They're going to take a break and then we'll be
coming back. We'll keep it here, Zach, and it's going
to be an overtime, it sure is.
Speaker 6 (02:38:35):
Coach reenholl has got to go down and talk with
his sulfender, Apra mcdonne, and she has had a phenomenal game,
absolutely incredible, tremendous ian to talk to you from the
Badger's sophomore goaltender.
Speaker 3 (02:38:50):
We're going to bring in Paul Cappy Bianco, easy side
and communications guy for Badger Hockey, works with Ryan Posk
on the air. Very welcome to Paul. Have you ever
seen anything like this that was pretty crazy?
Speaker 1 (02:39:06):
Ending there?
Speaker 7 (02:39:07):
Manders have scored on five times and then a penalty
shot on.
Speaker 19 (02:39:10):
A review with a hand on the podcast.
Speaker 3 (02:39:12):
Amazing. Yeah, this is one.
Speaker 20 (02:39:15):
Hopefully the outcome is good and you're gonna remember this
one for ever ever.
Speaker 3 (02:39:20):
I've never seen anything like that.
Speaker 19 (02:39:23):
Yeah, and then even the penalty shot there.
Speaker 20 (02:39:26):
I think Ohio State was interesting to make sure Sins
was going forward the whole way we watched replay, she
moved forward.
Speaker 19 (02:39:31):
That was a heck of a move to finish it off,
and she's basically an empty net. But pre desire a
relief here, for get a little fifteen minute.
Speaker 3 (02:39:38):
Break and you see what you can do in overtime
and just reset. It's a new game. You work on
the men's shot with a Badger men's program in that,
but you get an opportunity. What are your thoughts from
the overall game? You're fall I mean, this is outstanding game.
Speaker 19 (02:39:54):
You know, the Badgers have so much skill all year.
Speaker 3 (02:39:56):
You see them.
Speaker 20 (02:39:58):
Just dominating teams in this Really how they score the
rushow on mont Ohio State is that is that team.
They're the one team. And when the Badgers make mistakes,
they can take advantage of it. And you've seen that
a couple of times tonight, and so you know it
was all out here. Look like coach Johnson was rolling
in just a couple of lines deep. Yeah, you wonder
here's your different combinations?
Speaker 3 (02:40:17):
Yeah, are mixing it up.
Speaker 20 (02:40:18):
So you wonder how much light with the lights are
going to be life with the Badgers, and over time
to wonder if they're going to stretch the bench a
little bit and just.
Speaker 14 (02:40:26):
Kind of roll through there and get back to.
Speaker 19 (02:40:27):
Their rolling four lines.
Speaker 3 (02:40:28):
But we'll see. This is this is something some kind
of game.
Speaker 6 (02:40:32):
I have a friend to Virginia, good friend of mine
who lives out there and now who's watching the game live.
If you just texted me to say this game is
taking years off his life, and it's film very much
the same way.
Speaker 5 (02:40:43):
But how about these Badgers. This has been a very
difficult game for them in the game where they've played from.
Speaker 6 (02:40:48):
Behind almost the entirety of those sixteen minutes, they've never
given up. They've kept playing the game, and they are
rewarded with a chance of overtime, a chance with can win.
Speaker 7 (02:40:58):
The good teams find a way.
Speaker 19 (02:41:00):
I mean, you've seen the drama they've had in the
wha the winner.
Speaker 5 (02:41:04):
Or right for the game to pass off.
Speaker 20 (02:41:07):
But through the legs out in the slot like those,
the good teams find a way and they find a
way to get it tied.
Speaker 19 (02:41:12):
Obviously there's still one more to get here. But yeah,
this is fun for share Paul, and you work.
Speaker 3 (02:41:18):
In sports information communications and that kind of thing, and
you look at the whole year that the Badger women's
team has had and from your job is you're part
of the promotion of it and that kind of thing.
Have you ever seen a year where so many things
have been awarded one team? It's amazing.
Speaker 20 (02:41:39):
You know, it makes somebody like in my line of work,
and it makes it really easy because every week there's
something to.
Speaker 19 (02:41:43):
Talk about, and you know, it's just it is amazing,
like you have that much dominance on your team.
Speaker 20 (02:41:49):
You got three pidt of Cosmayer finalists and obviously it's
happened one other time back from Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (02:41:55):
I mean, the talent the batter's has incredible.
Speaker 20 (02:41:57):
It's so much fun watching Kake Harvey playing and leay
L Edwards and Casey O'Brien and it's yeah, I mean,
there's no word you can.
Speaker 5 (02:42:05):
Say it again.
Speaker 20 (02:42:07):
The one thing is if you do get he pulled
us one out, like that's the way you want to
finish this off.
Speaker 3 (02:42:12):
That's the way you want to win it.
Speaker 19 (02:42:12):
You want to win it memorably. And again it's not
they still need a historic goal here.
Speaker 3 (02:42:17):
It could go the other way.
Speaker 5 (02:42:18):
But if you're gonna win.
Speaker 3 (02:42:20):
It, this is how you want to do it to
make it memorable. And Paul give us a recap of
the men's program this year.
Speaker 20 (02:42:27):
Yeah, I mean, obviously it was a slow start for
the Badgers. It got kind of got things going right
before Christmas time and kind of rolled in.
Speaker 3 (02:42:34):
The second half of the year.
Speaker 20 (02:42:35):
Got had some pretty big wins, shut out Number one
Michigan State, shutout at Michigan.
Speaker 19 (02:42:40):
Kind of got things going and then you know, I
had a little hiccup towards the end. Daniel Watch went out.
Uh he was a huge part of the team, so.
Speaker 2 (02:42:48):
That kind of hurt a little bit.
Speaker 19 (02:42:50):
And then you know, Quinn Finley was carrying a big
part of the team in the.
Speaker 20 (02:42:54):
First half of that top line and he kind of,
you know, kind of hit the wall.
Speaker 19 (02:42:59):
A little bit, just kind of started struggling, couldn't put
the buck in the end.
Speaker 3 (02:43:02):
And you know, the Badgers there.
Speaker 19 (02:43:04):
Were so many, so many close games, they were in
so many games.
Speaker 20 (02:43:07):
Just one of those years, like you know, a little
bit more like again you watch the women's team here tonight,
they found the way at the end.
Speaker 3 (02:43:13):
The Badgers on the men's side, they weren't able to.
Speaker 20 (02:43:16):
Find a way all year, but it's encouraging, like a
lot of those guys, important players come back. The recruiting
class that coach Chasings has coming in is outstanding.
Speaker 5 (02:43:26):
Talked about him every day.
Speaker 20 (02:43:28):
You look at the numbers and this guy at a
hat trick, this guy set a record in.
Speaker 19 (02:43:31):
The Western Hockey League, this guy at a hundred points.
Speaker 20 (02:43:34):
They are there's some great talent coming in and so
it's going to be an exciting year next year.
Speaker 3 (02:43:39):
Yeah, Mike's gonna be solid. First time in what twenty
six years he's had a losing season. That's amazing. It's
just absolutely amazing when you think about it.
Speaker 20 (02:43:48):
Yeah, I mean he obviously he's had an amazing success
throughout his career.
Speaker 19 (02:43:53):
Obviously not the season that he wanted to have or
has ever experienced.
Speaker 5 (02:43:57):
Like you said, if I have a feeling he's such
a good.
Speaker 20 (02:44:00):
Coach and he's proven it over time that with the
men's team will be back at it very soon.
Speaker 3 (02:44:06):
Paul helps out Brian Poschik doing the games on the
men's side, and there's a quality guy and Brian and
I'll tell you what he's doing. His passion and that's
play by play hockey. I hope he sticks around a
long time. It's got to be. He's doing a great
job with a mended program.
Speaker 5 (02:44:22):
I mean he obviously he's.
Speaker 3 (02:44:23):
Been doing actually he's been doing it back.
Speaker 20 (02:44:24):
Since the Stevens Point games as a student with the
hockey and winning championships there.
Speaker 5 (02:44:29):
He makes it so easy to work with.
Speaker 3 (02:44:31):
I mean, he's pre preparation is amazing.
Speaker 20 (02:44:33):
After every game on the way back, he's already three
quarters away through.
Speaker 19 (02:44:37):
The next game for the next week.
Speaker 7 (02:44:38):
And he just is nonstopping.
Speaker 20 (02:44:40):
Practice, knows things back and forward, inside and out names,
and he's just I mean, he's he's great at this job,
and he's a great guy too.
Speaker 3 (02:44:49):
Hey, thanks for feeling us out. You know, we're a
lot of commercials and you understand what we're doing here, right, buddy,
sure do.
Speaker 14 (02:44:55):
Thanks for having me on.
Speaker 3 (02:44:57):
Thanks ball, take care and Zach Sheelauf and I are
just kind of filling time here. The clock is show
at eight forty eight remitting before we get under way again.
We couldn't take a break if that's out of the
post game. I don't know if Brad would let us
do that or not. He says.
Speaker 5 (02:45:16):
One thing I do want to highlight before we go.
Speaker 6 (02:45:18):
To break here the seniors and fiftiear players who are
in their final game.
Speaker 5 (02:45:22):
We're in the Cardinal White.
Speaker 6 (02:45:24):
Quinn Foods the goalie, a transfer from Ohio State, the
back of goltzender this year, Lacy Eaton.
Speaker 5 (02:45:29):
Alternate captain Mary N.
Speaker 3 (02:45:31):
Patard, who's the Jackie Robinson.
Speaker 5 (02:45:32):
Nominee this year.
Speaker 6 (02:45:34):
Sarah Waznevitch on the energy line we've talked about all game,
Katie Kotlowski the defender, and of course the Patty Casmi
Award winner amongst so many other accolades, the Gattin, Kasey O'Brien.
The Badgers will miss each and every one of them,
but what a way to conclude their careers with Wisconsin
here at Rita Arena tonight in Minneapolis.
Speaker 3 (02:45:52):
You know, I'm just thinking about this. I've been around
this game an awful long time, and I've never seen
anything like what we just witnessed here. I've never seen
anything like that.
Speaker 6 (02:46:03):
A video review to determine it was Maddy Wheeler that
was assessed the delay of game penalty. As I look
at our score sheets here to generate the penalty shot
Kirstin Simms that discussion. I hope I see Dave Dave
Suka of the Wisconsin Badger's photographers.
Speaker 5 (02:46:20):
Right behind your left shoulder there.
Speaker 6 (02:46:21):
I hope you got a picture of Casey O'Brien and
Kirsten Simms with their heads literally together talking about the shot.
Speaker 5 (02:46:28):
What an image to represent the bond that those two
have and the tremendous.
Speaker 3 (02:46:33):
Work they have done for this team over the years,
and that the way she got her out of position
was absolutely incredible with that penalty shot in the goal
and kept the Badger hope. She's alive and now they
got a chance to win it all. And we'll take
a break. This is Wisconsin Badger Women's hockey.
Speaker 6 (02:47:00):
Welcome back everyone. We're at Ritter Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
After three periods complete, the store is three to three
thanks to a Kurston Sims penalty shot with eighteen point
nine seconds to go. During a crazy sequence to continue
past this point, Maggie Wheeler at some point covered up
the puck in the crease, guilty of delay of game,
but it was not called on the ice.
Speaker 3 (02:47:21):
After the puck was.
Speaker 6 (02:47:22):
Frozen with eighteen point nine to go, Mark Johnson challenged
the call, The referees awarded the penalty shot, and Kirsten
Sims equalized on the penalty attempt.
Speaker 5 (02:47:32):
It was incredible.
Speaker 3 (02:47:33):
We have that audio for you.
Speaker 5 (02:47:34):
Let's go to that now.
Speaker 3 (02:47:36):
Kirston Shim stitting back in the zone. She's gonna pick
up the puck and shet aarag and she comes in
all alone against the goaltender. Here's Kirsten Shims, will we
get a shut.
Speaker 2 (02:47:50):
She scores and tied the game. She scores and ties
the game to Loisconson badger up the word the game.
Speaker 5 (02:48:00):
You're going to have to forgive me.
Speaker 3 (02:48:01):
I got a little over.
Speaker 6 (02:48:02):
Excited there and shouted she scored at the end of
the call. I have never seen anything like this. And
what's howbout.
Speaker 3 (02:48:09):
Kristen sins And that obviously will be one of the
highlights of her hockey career, no matter how many years
she plays. And Nadine Mazarel is being escorted back out
onto the ice. They got to cross the ice with
their shoes on. Each one of the coaches kind of
gets an assistance.
Speaker 7 (02:48:29):
And yeah, what was it like?
Speaker 3 (02:48:32):
Very calm? I would imagine down in the locker room,
nothing going.
Speaker 7 (02:48:34):
On down there.
Speaker 3 (02:48:35):
Well, you'd be surprised. Del Mark stays pretty even keel.
The room was real quiet, and he just said, hey,
he's a compligated dog.
Speaker 7 (02:48:43):
It's simple. Let's get it out, let's get it in deep,
don't pass up shots. Here we go to play smoke.
Let's go finish a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:48:50):
You know, I mean he just sounds like her her
brooks Ye keeps it pretty basic, you know, doesn't want
to pollute their minds with distractions.
Speaker 5 (02:49:01):
You know, one of those also favorable lots in a
playoff game.
Speaker 6 (02:49:05):
I can remember listening to this team. This was twenty nineteen,
maybe in twenty eighteen, and my wife and I were
rather josh wit three National Park, Ohio State had played
in the earlier seventy five, gone.
Speaker 5 (02:49:15):
To Hote, the Madgers went to lot. We got out
of the park lade and put the game.
Speaker 3 (02:49:20):
Must have been done.
Speaker 5 (02:49:21):
My wife says no, it says it's still at OT.
Speaker 3 (02:49:23):
Went to three overtimes against I believe it was cold game,
and the.
Speaker 5 (02:49:27):
Coachy fellow and had third overtime Reed Magnum had that call.
Speaker 6 (02:49:31):
Was a fantastic game. As you said, the Madgers do
want to go that far and lit one and get
the puff seat, get it.
Speaker 20 (02:49:37):
On that.
Speaker 3 (02:49:39):
And the Badgers come on on to the ice here
left by Abe mcnaughey. He's going to be back in goal,
and the buck guys of Ohio State at re entered.
Speaker 7 (02:49:53):
But we will have ten seconds cheval power play yeah,
to start the period as well.
Speaker 5 (02:50:00):
Plays carry over into the overtime.
Speaker 6 (02:50:01):
So Mas with a good opportunity to start things off aggressive.
Speaker 7 (02:50:08):
And go ahead and ball.
Speaker 3 (02:50:12):
We'll set it up once we'll see who's coming out
on to the ice. The officials have called the captain's over.
Harvey and Bucleoni have gone over and the officials are
going to be talking to them. Ohio State will be
to our right here in the overtime period and Wisconsin
will be to our left. Dating from our left to
(02:50:34):
our right. Sims is out of the ice, O'Brien is out,
also out as Watson Evitch. Harvey's going to be out
as well, and I believe Jungle yep, that'll be the
starting lineup for the Badgers here in the overtime period.
They cooked twenty minutes.
Speaker 7 (02:50:56):
Up on the board.
Speaker 3 (02:50:58):
Bocleoni and our are chatting is they both go back
to their bench areas.
Speaker 7 (02:51:07):
This has been a classic boy, I'll say.
Speaker 3 (02:51:13):
One for the archives. Yeah, you don't see many like this. Yeah,
it's still this is unique. There we go Buglioni against
O'Brien and the draw set up by Harvey plays along
the boards on the right side, chasing it down goes
O'Brien behind the that over to pick it up. The
play comes around, the Ohio State is back at full strength.
(02:51:36):
The penalty time is over. The Buckeyes come in over
the line, busting to the nat is zanon but they
play it behind the that. Xannon trying to control the
puck and Ohio State back to the point on the
left side with a drive in front. Over there, they
got it away from in front pressure by the Buckeyes
(02:51:57):
and they had Amos in front of the that back
to the point on the right side. They're moving in
Webster around the boards. Is going to be taken away
by Simms out on the brakes over to Wahnevitch Poznavit
skates in over the line on the right side, going
back over to control. Ohio State turns and they start
out of their own zone. The puck is going to
(02:52:20):
be played by Edwards in over the line. They got
Cassie hol Well, we get in shots. We've eaten shot high.
She had an opportunity to put it away, and the
puck has played along the boards back around on the play.
Here goes Murphy with a drive in front. It's going
to be cleared away the puck back to the point
(02:52:41):
at Ohio State and the neutral zone and Wisconsin over
to pick it out and it comes all the way
back down to the Badger zone. Murphy over the control,
Murphy on the lead. Wisconsin comes in over the line,
haul on the plate to Eden, given go to Edwards.
Edwards shot it's fucked and knocked on and covering it
(02:53:01):
off his steel leaves and love that.
Speaker 5 (02:53:04):
Sequence from the Badges. Two opportunities in Ohio State zone.
Speaker 3 (02:53:08):
They found the open.
Speaker 5 (02:53:09):
Skater and they attacked the rebound feely.
Speaker 3 (02:53:11):
All night.
Speaker 5 (02:53:11):
We've been talking about it, difficulties with rebound control. The
Badgers are trying to pounce on that.
Speaker 3 (02:53:16):
Yeah, face off coming up to the right side, back
in the zone of Ohio State. Pacard is out and
right is out. Harvey is on the ice, Scannal is
on the ice and jungles He's gonna toss for card
and put in scandals to trying to win the face off.
Speaker 7 (02:53:38):
She went.
Speaker 3 (02:53:39):
She wins the draw and Picard tried to take the
shot in behind the at over to try and pick
it up. They center right out in front Stark and Wisconsin,
trying to play it along the boards on the near
side down in the corner. Lots of hustle on the
part of percard forcard centers at nobody home. Jungle's over
(02:54:00):
to pick it up, jungles down along the boards. It
goes over to Scandal Harvey slamming her stick in the ice.
They try to center it around on the far side
that it's going to be dumped out in the zone
that's an ice and going back over. We'll have an
icing call of the pace coming up back in the
zone of Ohio State. Some good pressure by the Badgers there.
Speaker 7 (02:54:22):
I like that. I like what I'm seeing out of
the gates here.
Speaker 5 (02:54:25):
I want to see a Maggie Scandal there continuing to
do work as a pressure.
Speaker 3 (02:54:29):
She's got a back of every ship she's had today.
O'Brian sims Eden Potter at one point at Ohio State
Eaton down in the corner trying to hold it there.
Murphy and Potter are the defensive pairing Eaton looking for
the fuck, trying to free it along the back wall.
Ohio State turns and tries to bring it out. Google
(02:54:52):
One plays it past the Badger defense, but back goes
Potter to pick it up and fire it out on
the break and the stuff elected along the boards. On
the near side with it is Aba Murphy on the
lad due Eden Aiden cutchin over the line, moving to
the neck shot rebounds, give my son.
Speaker 2 (02:55:14):
For the Wisconston backers.
Speaker 21 (02:55:17):
Herberston Shives gets her second, gets checked a go and
the Wisconson doctors have won the cars and Carns Champion
chef in overtime.
Speaker 5 (02:55:31):
This place absolutely exploited. This box is the only space
for Wisconsin staff to the end.
Speaker 6 (02:55:36):
There's a half dozen people up here jumping up and down,
the players up against the glass in front of a
huge the digital fans and just what we talked about.
Speaker 3 (02:55:45):
They get a rebound off the.
Speaker 5 (02:55:47):
Lacy edie Jack Sims crashes in the first attempt, doesn't
know a second attempt is good?
Speaker 7 (02:55:52):
Yup.
Speaker 3 (02:55:52):
Deally was leaving fop salanches out there on the rebounds.
Who made it finally come for the backers.
Speaker 7 (02:55:58):
Beautiful gold films on the rebound off of Eden shot.
Speaker 3 (02:56:02):
I don't know what to say.
Speaker 5 (02:56:03):
I'm speechless.
Speaker 3 (02:56:04):
Thank you, gentlemen for everything which is unreal. Well let's
say it this way.
Speaker 22 (02:56:09):
Two thousand and six, two thousand and seven, two thousand
and nine, two thousand and eleven, two thousand and nineteen,
two thousand and twenty one, two thousand and twenty three,
and now two thousand and twenty five.
Speaker 3 (02:56:28):
That's eight.
Speaker 7 (02:56:29):

Speaker 3 (02:56:32):
I can't even explain it.
Speaker 7 (02:56:34):
This is unreill Oh I'm Wisconsin and on and out again.
Speaker 5 (02:56:39):
Oh, three halls, it's so good working with you this season.
Thank you for joining our feathery process.
Speaker 2 (02:56:44):
And Paul, I can't take you up.
Speaker 5 (02:56:45):
With all the backup fans, the thirty foot of.
Speaker 3 (02:56:48):
The team, I love it. You gotta go out on
the ice. Wow, unbelievable, unbelieve and cursed and sit ups
the Badgers. Some of the Ohio state players are gathered
in front of their bench area. They're hugging one another.
(02:57:10):
They're actually crying. But listen to the Wisconsin Badger fans
appreciating the efforts of Wisconsin winning their eighth national championship
in hockey.
Speaker 6 (02:57:24):
I see him and the Telly over here at her bench,
her parents comforting her.
Speaker 3 (02:57:29):
Then I know this float.
Speaker 5 (02:57:30):
He'll take this thing away. But she has absolutely nothing
to be unhappy about.
Speaker 7 (02:57:33):
What she played.
Speaker 6 (02:57:34):
A phenomenal game for the Ohio State Buckeyes toenaias.
Speaker 3 (02:57:41):
I tell you what. While they're getting ready for the
presentation here, Op Brad, if you've got the highlights of
this game, do you want to play them at this time?
Go ahead and do it.
Speaker 6 (02:57:54):
As we see the Badgers jumping up and down, Lady
partner Patsey Hall.
Speaker 5 (02:57:58):
Give him a w five.
Speaker 3 (02:57:59):
The fans Fucky.
Speaker 6 (02:58:01):
Badgers on seed, and the coaches are on seed. Sims
and O'Brien embrace what a performance. Let's listen to all
those wonderful highlights from this game. This is Wisconsin Badger
Women's hockey on AM ten seventy, the game.
Speaker 3 (02:58:24):
For Shull and Uniger back defensively against Jungles and army,
and we're underway as KK drives it down in behind
the goaltender Heeley of Ohio State and the play comes
back out over the center ice. Be setting it up
in the neutral zone of the near board, plays it
down in the corner and going back over to pick
(02:58:44):
it up. Is swiderski doctors moving on on ice protection.
Two one one, Edward moving it in and trying it
off the shot with was Conner and going to tackle
back gos Minnesota or Ohio steak the other way. Texter
with a dry having to save his ma in.
Speaker 7 (02:59:02):
The zone of Wisconsin. I'll turn down action.
Speaker 3 (02:59:05):
John working at past O'Brien carries it all the way
into the Wisconsin line.
Speaker 7 (02:59:10):
We'll we get in with a back hitter and a goal.
Speaker 3 (02:59:15):
Joy Don went so on the picking up the park
behind the apps, stats through the Wisconsin Dodgers and scores on.
Speaker 2 (02:59:25):
Her twenty ninth goal of the year at Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (02:59:30):
Has run it up and leaves Doncers move in, Awards
shook it at shot.
Speaker 13 (02:59:36):
Emwards put a deep about tender and comes bright that
and Ede scores the goal her thirty tep goal of
the year, and the backers score a short time later.
Speaker 2 (02:59:51):
Look up, here's a two one one the other way.
Speaker 7 (02:59:53):
Shut the door.
Speaker 2 (02:59:56):
As Matthews hits the Aford cover over an app her
night all of.
Speaker 3 (03:00:00):
The year at Ohio State.
Speaker 7 (03:00:03):
Takes a two to long lead.
Speaker 3 (03:00:05):
They move it in. They had a man or a
person in the slot. Amos right there shotting the goal
at Ohio State scores ten seconds.
Speaker 2 (03:00:15):
Into the period and they take a three to long lead.
Speaker 3 (03:00:19):
Over the Wisconsin Badgers. Harvey on the wing drops it
back of it. The Sims had a move there the
shot by Peel. He the rebound in front over the
Harvey shadow. Ken Harvey gets the goal for eighteenth to
the year and the Badgers are down now.
Speaker 5 (03:00:39):
Three to two. It's a good girl. It's a good
goal for the Badgers.
Speaker 3 (03:00:51):
Wow, it's a tie game.
Speaker 5 (03:00:56):
No excuse me, it's shots. It's a got to be
a penalty shot for Wisconsin.
Speaker 7 (03:01:05):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 3 (03:01:07):
Kirsten Sims skitting back in the zone. She's gonna pick
up the fuck that's sent her eyes and she comes
in all alone against the goaltender. Ears. Kirsten Sims, will
we get in shut the door?
Speaker 2 (03:01:20):
She stares and ties the game. She stares and ties
the game for the Wisconsin Badgers.
Speaker 3 (03:01:29):
Up the road of the sure and we've come to
the end of regulation the time, but it's tied up
at three three. Old god as the Badgers get a
penalty shot and score at the nineteen forty one mark
of the period. That old man and it's deflected along
(03:01:51):
the boards on the near side with it is Aba
Murphy on.
Speaker 7 (03:01:54):
The lead to Eden.
Speaker 5 (03:01:56):
Eden pucks in over the line, moving to the net.
Speaker 3 (03:01:58):
Shots Badgers.
Speaker 21 (03:02:09):
Must Shims gets her second good chef, get it go,
and the Wisconsin Badgers have won the Person Farm Championship
in overtime.
Speaker 5 (03:02:23):
That's the tale of the tape. Four to three in overtime.
Speaker 6 (03:02:27):
But I'll tell you, as wonderful as those highlights were,
they don't.
Speaker 5 (03:02:31):
Give you any sense of what kind of a game
this was if you've.
Speaker 3 (03:02:34):
Just joined us.
Speaker 6 (03:02:35):
The Badgers had defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes four to
three in overtime, trailing for almost the entirety of the game.
With ten seconds to go, Mark Johnson initiated a coaches challenge.
Speaker 5 (03:02:48):
The referees assessed the delay of game tunneling.
Speaker 6 (03:02:51):
Against Maddy Wheeler for covering the puck in her home crease,
which led to a penalty shot by Kirsten Simms. After
a series of incredible stick handling moves, she left poor man, that's.
Speaker 5 (03:03:01):
Deely laying out on the wrong side of the net.
Speaker 6 (03:03:04):
Sims put it in to tie the game, and then
how appropriate was it that she put in the game
winner in overtime off a big rebound from lazied and.
Speaker 3 (03:03:12):
I was watching Ohio State who graciously stayed and waited
for the Badgers to celebrate. And one young lady that
was crying was Mattie Wheeler. So she was with Wisconsin.
Ye got her eligibility was up. She potentially had another year,
but they didn't have any aid for her. Mark said,
(03:03:34):
you got an opportunity go there, and you can imagine
what she's thinking right now. That doesn't take away from
anything Ohio State did in this game. They really gave
the Badgers a challenge.
Speaker 6 (03:03:47):
Ohio State is a phenomenal hockey team and as you said,
great sportsman at the end of her very huge credit
to them, especially coach Didi Louzerole and all of the staff,
but organized their players and they played a tremendous game.
Speaker 5 (03:04:02):
You could not ask for a better national championship.
Speaker 6 (03:04:04):
If you're simply a hockey band, you don't need to
be a fan of either of these teams to have
enjoyed this game.
Speaker 5 (03:04:10):
This was an incredible, big showcase of hockey.
Speaker 3 (03:04:13):
And some of the parents are working their way down
onto the ice and that type of thing. The Badgers
are getting their hats and they're taking pictures. That's obviously
what's going to be going on here. And Jason King
is hugging Jackie Crumb, who's one of the assistant coaches
along with Dan Cook and Mark. He's just kind of
(03:04:36):
standing at the blue line taking it all in. The
ten time Coach of the Year, five time National Coach
of the Year, and now eight championships for Mark Johnson
as head coach of the Badger Women. They finished the
year with a twenty seven game on beaten streak. They
(03:04:58):
won their last thirteen in a row. They finished the
year at thirty eight one and two. What a fabulous season.
That's the most wins.
Speaker 5 (03:05:12):
For the team.
Speaker 3 (03:05:13):
There's a couple of other things, right, yep.
Speaker 6 (03:05:16):
Most wins for the team. So that was win number
thirty eight, the house of any team in UW history.
Speaker 3 (03:05:20):
I've about mcnonton, yep or Aba mcconton.
Speaker 5 (03:05:22):
That's win number thirty six.
Speaker 6 (03:05:23):
She was tied with Christi Gambell coming into this game
at thirty five. She now has thirty six, the most
wins by UW goaltender in history.
Speaker 5 (03:05:31):
We've talked so.
Speaker 6 (03:05:32):
Much about Casey O'Brien, Leila Edwards Carolyn Harvey and the
incredible stats that they have put up, the.
Speaker 5 (03:05:38):
Awards that they've earned.
Speaker 3 (03:05:41):
This is a team that you have to say.
Speaker 5 (03:05:44):
I did not start watching this team until twenty fifteen.
I came to it when I moved back to Wisconsin
for Virginia about ten years ago, so I didn't see
the early years.
Speaker 6 (03:05:53):
But boy, for my money, for the teams I've seen play,
and I've seen some Husby great players come through, this
was the That's Wisconsin's team I see.
Speaker 3 (03:06:02):
And I wonder if Markles say that now that they've
won the championship. I wouldn't be surprised if he would say, Yes,
this is probably the best team we've.
Speaker 6 (03:06:11):
Ever had, an absolutely incredible effort from an absolutely incredible
group of young women, and purely from a fans standpoint.
For myself, we mentioned the seniors and fifth year players.
I want to do it again real quickly. Quinn Food's
from Ohio State being to Wisconsin, Lacy Eden, Mary Am
Pacard Star with evistdy Kevousi and Casey O'Brien.
Speaker 5 (03:06:32):
You hate to lose any of those folks, but that's a.
Speaker 3 (03:06:35):
Lot of talent coming back who are not graduating, and
I'll tell you what, folks, obviously you're not here to
see it, but we are at the home of the
Minnesota Golden Golphers in the Twin Cities. The home rink
is Ritter Arena for the Golphers. It's full of Badger
fans right now and they're celebrating a championship in a
(03:06:55):
Minnesota building. That's kind of cool too.
Speaker 6 (03:06:58):
It's absolutely couldn't ask for anything better. And now the
presentation of the championship trophy. Casey O'Brien, Lacy Eden, Carolyn Harvey,
and Leyla Edwards, the captains are the first to hoist
the trophy for Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (03:07:13):
And I'll tell you what. All the votes had to
be in for the All Tournament team with five minutes
left in the game, I tell you what. I would think.
There would be some changes if you could pull those back,
but it is what it is. The most important thing
right now is that trophy is in the air. The
Wisconsin Badgers are all gathered around one another. The flares
(03:07:37):
are up, the smoke is coming out of three four
spots in the building. Sparklers are flying, and the championship
belongs to the Badgers for the eighth time.
Speaker 6 (03:07:50):
It feels like there's almost nothing left to say this.
Speaker 3 (03:07:53):
That's exactly where I'm at.
Speaker 5 (03:07:54):
I know this has been an absolutely.
Speaker 6 (03:07:56):
Incredible season for these young women. I'm so glad that
we got the two to broadcast these games. Thank you
to everyone out there listening to us, to hith and
who's listened to us throughout the season.
Speaker 5 (03:08:06):
Thank you for being fans in the state team.
Speaker 6 (03:08:08):
Thank you for your assistance to people living with Alzheimer's
and owther dementias. Lsborgear dot org has benefited tremendously from
the incredible fan base that this team has. They've been
so generous with their wallets donating to research.
Speaker 1 (03:08:21):
And now.
Speaker 5 (03:08:23):
It's time for the singing of our time honored varsity And.
Speaker 3 (03:08:27):
With that we'll say so long for brad Berg. Back
at the studio, Sean Preeble who helped out all year
along with Zach Seloff and Mark Greenhall, Paul Brown saying
thank you for joining us. It's been a lot of fun,
and the Badgers win it in overtime. They're eight frozen
(03:08:47):
four Women's Championship. So long from Rheta Arena
