Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into the J and K Security Solutions Basketball postgame show.
I'm your host Dave Gasper, joined by Nick bruce Witz.
The winning streak comes to an end at seven as
Wisconsin falls to UCLA eighty five eighty three. You can
join the conversation with us on the hotline six eight
three two one thirteen ten. John Ton, Jay and John
(00:22):
Blackwell combined for forty seven points and the Badgers made
things very interesting at the end, but ultimately the Bruins
held on to snap this winning streak for eighteenth ranked Wisconsin.
They had a five point lead at the half. Nick,
I think a large part of the reason for this
Badger's loss here tonight, Well, it was just the inability
(00:42):
to get stops on the defensive end when they needed
the most down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, and it was the I think X factor, maybe
the ace up the sleeve of UCLA. And that was
a die mera Mara underneath the bucket. I mean, this
is a guy that averages four points per game. He's
a seven foot three animal.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
How does he average four points a game?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
He just doesn't play. He didn't play in their last game,
not one second. And he was kind of the difference
for them today. He has a career high twenty two points.
He was seven to seven from the field, eight to
eleven from the free throw line. Like, he is a
very talented player and there's a reason why he is
in the States playing basketball and on a program like UCLA.
(01:32):
But he's raw and they had to lean on him
a little bit and it worked out for them. And
that mixed with the ability to get to the bucket
over and over and over again on the offensive end
for Sebastian Mack down the stretch and number twelve for
UCLA really had an impressive performance in the second half
(01:52):
was where he kind of sunk his teeth into the
Badgers defense. Fifteen points on five of seven shooting. It
was a good game for Wisconsin's offense and it was
a kind of frustrating one for their defense. And there
were so many fouls on both sides. I think Wisconsin's
defense got called for a foul on seven straight possessions
(02:15):
for UCLA or something.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Absurd along those lines.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
It just really became a far different game and far
from what Wisconsin wanted it to look like.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
As the game went.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
On, Yeah, it wasn't really even about you know, possessions
and shot taking down the stretch because there's so many whistles,
so many fouls that it was just all about getting
to the free throw line and making your free throws
in and Wisconsin made theirs eighteen of twenty one, eighty
six percent. They made it, had a better clip, had
a better percentage than Ucla. But UCLA shot more, they
(02:47):
got more attempts at the free throw line, and that's
really where where the difference came.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
In in this game.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
But yeah, the fouls were were definitely a problem on
both sides. Then you get, you know, the technical fouls
that are getting assessed on both sides. You get the
intentional foul called on Carter Gilmour there I believe it was,
or no Jack Chanicky yep, at the end of the
first half, and that completely changes the whole momentum there
as they're going in halftime. You know, it could have
(03:14):
been a seven point lead for Wisconsin at the half.
Instead it's five, and the momentum kind of swings. It's
a couple extra points going UCLA's way because that really
probably shouldn't have been an intentional foul on Janicky, but
phil that's what was called. And that's that's how this
game ends up going. But yeah, Ide, Mara came out
of nowhere. Mara and Mac off the bench. These guys
(03:36):
are off the bench for Ucla. They weren't even starters
for the Bruins, and they come in and they're playing
and Mara's got twenty two points, Max got nineteen, and
they were just all over the place down the stretch
for UCLA and Wisconsin couldn't stop him.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
Mara.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Yeah, he's raw, but he's seven foot three. I mean,
you can't teach seven put three. He's got plenty of
height on Crow. And he outdueled Crow in this one.
And that's something too that we've seen a really strong,
aggressive Stephen Crowe these past several weeks. And Crow today
(04:15):
eleven points, four to six from the field, five rebounds,
but Mara just Crow had no answer for him.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Yeah, to a degree, Dave, You're right.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
And the problem for Wisconsin was what we saw in
the first half was how they wanted it to look,
which was living at the perimeter and beating Ucla from
the perimeter ten of eighteen from deep. Wisconsin's game was
not back to the bucket. They weren't taking twos and
so Mick cronin at halftime, he makes that adjustment, right.
So you saw Mara play seven minutes in the first half,
(04:49):
second half he plays fifteen minutes, right. So he said,
if you're gonna yin, I'm gonna yang.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
If you're gonna zig, I'm gonna zag.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
And they went down to the bucket and they put
the batcher's in a position where they had to adjust
on the fly.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
And Steve didn't play poorly, but he didn't do enough.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Right, You're talking about a raw second year player coming
in from Spain versus Steve who's in his fifth year
with Wisconsin, and you gotta rely on him a little
bit more.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
You gotta find a.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Little bit more consistency on the defensive end for Big Steve.
But the reality tonight was that UCLA just had I
saw someone tweet that that UCLA wanted it more. I
don't think that's a fair assessment.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Wanted it more.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
But they were in a position where they were gonna pull,
you know, some trick out of their sleeve. They had
some sort of second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth different idea
for how they could attack Wisconsin, and.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
They pulled out. They didn't hold back anything I mean, and.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
That they were aggressive, I think is the word we're
looking at. They were aggressive and also seeking out fouls
and drawing fouls from Wisconsin. Wisconsin's doing the same thing.
They recognized. Okay, Hela's in some foul trouble. We're in
the bonus here. Let's try and draw some fouls. And
John Blackwell did a really great job of that today.
Twelve free throw attempts for Blackwell, ten of twelve in
(06:12):
this one. And that's where Wisconsin needed to take more
advantage of because UCLA attempted seven more free throws. They
made just three more than Wisconsin, but Wisconsin lost by two.
And that's that.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
The hell of a job on Taj too in the
second half, right, So John goes into the break with
sixteen points, five of five from deep, and he'd had
a free throw as well. He missed one of two
free throws in the first half, which is surprised, god
has miss free throws, but for what it's worth.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Sixteen points at the break.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Then he comes into the second half and he doesn't
have a shot attempt until Wisconsin is down seventy to
sixty three, and he makes his shots eight of nine
on the day he hits that, you know, step back
side step three in the closing moments, sixty seven from
Dantaja had zero in the win over USC twenty four tonight. Right,
(07:04):
So Blackwell and Tajay, as you've already highlighted that forty
seven points combined, right, that is what Wisconsin can almost
count on is that they're gonna get production from those
two Tanjay and Blackwell.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Outlier last time out.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
They won anyway one by fifteen over USC when they
got zero from Tajy. But reality is Tajay and Blackwell
are gonna get theirs. The rest of the team never
really found much of a rhythm. You saw Max Klesman
make a couple of timely shots here and there, eight
points on the day of two to five shooting. Big
Steve we've referenced eleven points, four to six shooting, but
he just didn't get much from the rest of the squad,
(07:38):
which is to be expected when you play a team
of the caliber of UCLA.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Yeah, and Nolan Winter is someone who is who has
done a lot more offensively we've seen the season than
he's done tonight. Just five points here and he's kind
of it almost seems like he's been slowing down this
last couple of dames.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
We'll get more to.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
That on the other side. We also got fun facts
with Dave on the other side as well.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Later on the show.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Nick Osen from twenty free seven Sports he's out there
in Ucla. He's going to join us, give us his
thoughts on the game that he saw. That's all coming
up next. Badgers fall to Ucla eighty five eighty three.
You're listening to the Jank Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
I throw to Carter Gilmore, rotate to the Tanja left
of the circle. Lets it go for three?
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Yes, sir?
Speaker 6 (08:29):
Five threes are the first half for John Tanjay thirty
five thirty Wisconsin with two oh wait left till halftime.

Dave Guessper here with you along with Nick bruce Witz
after this Badger's loss to the UCLA Bruins eighty five
eighty three. Here on a Tuesday night, we are approach
(09:00):
Wednesday morning, but not quite there yet. Nolan Winter in
this game for the Badgers just five points two to
four from the field, and he's someone who I mean,
coming into today, he was averaging around ten and a
half eleven points per game this season. Has he's had
an increased role in this Badgers lineup. He's been a
(09:22):
starter this year, getting a ton of minutes, and we've
seen a lot of production out of him. We've seen
him have more production than Stephen Crowell in a lot
of instances.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Yeah, but over this.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Past little stretch here, it seems like Nolan Winter's been
coming back down to earth a little bit, and he
seems like he's really been struggling, at least on the
offensive end to put the ball in the basket.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Yeah, it's been an increase in production from Crowell and
a decrease from Nolan Winter over the last few games here, and.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
That's to be expected.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
As long as one of the two seven voters is
producing at a high level, Wisconsin's in a good spot.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
It's hard for us to.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Really quantify Nolan's impact solely based off of stats. He
is a floor stretching big. He does make things interesting
for the defensive approach. I'd expect Nolan to have some
better games ahead But had we come into this season
and I said through the first and I'm just gonna
(10:24):
name a number ten games, who would be the better
big man? You would have said, oh, Steven Kroll. Nolan
went through get a little bit better this season just
his second year. Reality was, Nolan was the better big
man and he was playing really well. Kind of reverting
to what it should be, regressing them to mean, at
this point, Steve should be.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
The guy that you count on.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
What you get from Nolan should be positive and as
the season goes out, hopefully he gets comfortable, a little
bit more comfortable again and he gets on a roll.
But right now, it's not like he's taking bad shots.
It's not like he's putting the team in harm's way.
It's just the reality is his production is for sure,
only four shot attempts Tonight in a game that was
pretty close.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
He played nineteen minutes.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
And one rebound, and yeah, they had to go away
from him with how UCLA was attacking them, Right, you
saw a lot of Carter Gilmour tonight.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Gilmour plays twenty four minutes.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Yeah, it was definitely a flip in the minutes there
getting a lot more action with Carter Gilmore than Gilmour
gets himself in some foul trouble. Then yeah, Nolan Winter
five points. Carter Gilmore also five points, but he hits
a three. Carter Gilmore's really added that to his game there.
But yeah, Wisconsin falls eighty five eighty three to UCLA.
(11:40):
Mara and Mac off the bench, the two leading scorers
for the Bruins. Billodeh sixteen points as well. Clark added twelve,
but Eric Daily Junior averages twelve points a game held
to just four. That was I think pretty big for
Wisconsin being able to hold him down. Kobe Johnson also
just three points. He ends up fouling out as well.
(12:02):
So Wisconsin did some good things, you know, shutting down
some some good players and big parts of their offense,
but they didn't have answers for Mac and Mara off
the bench. Uh, and that's what ultimately cost him this game,
which isn't fun. It's it's never fun to to lose
a game. But that doesn't mean that we don't have
some fun facts here on fun facts with Dave.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Hey, have you ever heard me? Here's the term fun fact.
I got a couple of fun facts here because I
have a fun fight you have a fun fact.
Speaker 7 (12:33):
I do.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
First time in history this has happened in eight games,
five turnovers, and he's recorded thirty five assists.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Spent a long time since we've seen a game like this.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
The fun out here, This game's fun. Okay, I don't
know if that fact is fun?
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah? Are you fired up for fun facts with David?
Speaker 5 (12:55):
All Right?
Speaker 1 (12:55):
We got some fun fare for this Badger game against Ucla,
and they are more.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Fun after wins.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
But we're going back in history a little bit and
bringing out some facts from the history book.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
That's right, ding that bell, let's go. That's how we do.
Going back.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
This series University Wisconsin and UCLA. These two schools have
not played at either school's home site since nineteen seventy two,
when UCLA beat Wisconsin ninety four to fifty three out
in Los Angeles, Wisconsin. Back in nineteen seventy two, not
(13:36):
that great, you know, those were kind of the dark
ages of Wisconsin basketball going through that whole stretch and
now this whole series against UCLA, Wisconsin has lost six
straight against the Bruins.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
It's just eight meetings between these two schools.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Wisconsin won the first two nick Without looking up the answer,
do you know when those wins were?
Speaker 8 (14:06):
When?
Speaker 1 (14:07):
When the last time Wisconsin beat UCLA.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Was nineteen sixty nine.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
No, you're gonna have to go further than that.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Nineteen forty nine was the last time Wisconsin beat UCLA.
They beat him in forty eight and forty nine, and
they have not beat them in the six meetings since
sixty two, sixty six, seventy two, ninety five, and then
twenty seventeen when they played against the UCLA in the
(14:43):
Hall of.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Fame Classic, Hall of Fame Classic.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
I tell you you know, UCLA's a legacy program. They
are a blue blood, the whole John Wooden, multiple decades
of dominance.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Yeah, playing against those teams in nineteen seventy two, UCLA powerhouse, Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Not so much.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
But however, in some more fun parts of these fun
facts last time though, prior to tonight, the Badgers had
won six straight games in the city of Los Angeles,
the last time the Badgers played out there, excluding this
trip and facing usc the other day the twenty fourteen
(15:30):
and twenty fifteen NCAA Tournaments in the West Regional Finals,
where Wisconsin famously won their games to head to the
final four Wisconsin taking down Baylor in the Sweet sixteen
in Arizona and the Elite eight in twenty fourteen, and
then taken down North Carolina and Arizona at the Staples
(15:51):
Center in LA in twenty fifteen. So there we go,
ding that bell is that celebrating Wisconsin's final four runs
And that was the last time they were out there
in Los Angeles prior to this trip.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
So it's been a while.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Yeah, and it's crazy, right, So this is gonna become
more real, more consistent battle regularly out there in the
same conference. And I know coming into it, you want
to go to and zero And obviously Wisconsin's a high
caliber football excuse me, not high caliber football team right now,
(16:32):
high caliber men's basketball team at this moment, and they
just couldn't get it done. So one in one, you
come home from California, it's a tough road trip. You're
facing two really solid programs, UCLA the better of the
two right now, and you couldn't get it done. But
you leave losing by two, a lot to build off
of and you're only halfway through the season.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Yeah, and they had opportunities to win this one, which
is what makes it frustrating because you were right there.
But Wisconsin did not get out class in this game,
which is also a very good sign because being the
eighteenth ring team, you.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Don't want them to be outclassed in this one.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
But yeah, they played, They played tough, but just not
quite able to get enough done. Nick Osen of twenty
four to seven Sports, he's gonna join us on the
other side. We're gonna get his thoughts on this Badgers game,
as we do after every single Badgers game this season
that's coming up.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Don't go anywhere.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
This is the JANK Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
Goes inside, the crowd, goes up and gets it and
want to drive them up around Marago Good got us
on rebunk, back up and the prow staying with it.
Seventy three sixty nine, UCLA four thirty seven remaining.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Welcome back to the Jank Scuredy Solutions Basketball postgame Show
from home Security at Automation Jay and Ksecuredy Solutions. Has
you covered? Go to jksecurity dot com more info. Dave, guys,
we're here along with Nick Brucewitz, and we are joined
now by Nick Osen of twenty four to seven Sports.
As we do every single postgame show here after this
(18:12):
Badger's eighty five eighty three loss to the UCLA Bruins,
and Nick, this ade Mara cat really kind of seems
to have come out of nowhere twenty two points for UCLA,
seven of seven from the field.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Seven foot three, a little bit young.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Still kind of maybe kind of like a baby giraffe
out there, but the Badgers really seem to have no
answer for him tonight.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
And Nick has dropped off his.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
You'd his feelings to Yeah, apparently, you know, a Diemara
is a guy that I have to imagine he's gonna
blossom into one hell of a player, and you can't
beat yourself up too much considering the fact that he
is going to be a very successful college basketball player.
He's a guy that you can count on moving forward
(19:04):
if you're a Bruins fan. I just wish that his
coming out party wasn't against us and he could have
waited maybe one more game.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
To show up like he did.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Always would have been nice to have wait one more game,
right as we have nicoson it now back joining us
here on the on the hotline, right Nick.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
Yeah, you know, absolutely, guys, this was one so I've
watched a decent amount of UCLA actually this year, and
you know, he's shown flashes, really but you look at
his game log, only two other games in double digits, right,
one just barely ten points, and then his career high
or at least season high sixteen way back in November.
(19:43):
So you look at kind of his minutes, four minutes,
eight minutes, three minutes, and so I'm not sure if
Cronin was just looking for a spark, I mean, the
game was obviously still pretty close at that point, or
if he just felt that this was kind of a
game where he would really be able to kind of
find some success. And you know, I think he has talent.
(20:05):
The size as obvious. Lamara certainly has to put on
some more weight and muscle going forward if he wants
to continue to be a really you know, successful college
basketball player. But it just felt like he kind of
had the height well over Crowell, maybe had some mobility
or some luck I guess over winter. I mean, I
think we can speak to it, and we will that
(20:26):
a couple of the guys just weren't as mobile as
they needed to be defensive right tonight would certainly hurt.
But you know, sometimes you just run into games like that,
just like others have run into forty points showings from
John Tanjre and so on, where you know there may
be stars, but maybe not everybody ready for them yet,
just some tough luck tonight, really with Marrow you.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Touched on tanj I'm going to touch on I might
coin the phrase now John squared John Blackwell and John
Tonja forty seven points tonight, eight of nine from the
field for Tod six to seven from deep Blackwell, five
of fourteen, but ten to twelve from the free throw line.
He leads the Badgers with twenty three points, obviously after
(21:09):
Tanja's twenty four. My question is, though, like when the
game is in its final moments, when the Badgers are
in a must get a bucket mentality, the balls in
Blackwell's hands and it wasn't Blackwell's hands almost exclusively in
those moments.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
So is John kind of now that guy on offense
in Blackwell? I'm referencing me ibe shuldn't use John.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Nick, you know, I feel like because of the way
that Blackwell is pretty consistently played this last few weeks, Like,
I get it, I have no issues with it. I
totally understand it, and I think that he's pretty good
at drawing contact. I actually need to go back and
watch it, but I know that Tanjay had a look
(21:58):
in that moment maybe could have kicked out to him.
I need to see kind of some better angles. I
don't blame you know, certainly not the staff or Blackwell
really at all. I mean, he's been the guy, but
I don't think it should just be capped with him,
if that makes sense. Like I feel like if Tanja
is really hot in the second half, and clearly he
(22:20):
was early. I mean he barely missed any shots obviously
the leading score. Like you mentioned, he can also draw contact,
so I think I'd like it with him. Sometimes, you
guys know, I still think if you need like a triple,
I still think very highly of pleasant maybe if it's
a tie game. You played through the post, so I
get your question. I think there are still several options
(22:41):
really in my eyes. But yeah, recently it has been Blackwell,
and I have no issues with that, but I do
think there maybe was a better look or two that
late in this one tonight.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Nick Nolan Winter is someone who's had a really kind
of a breakout sophomore season, but we've seen him kind
of slow down here a little bit in the last
couple of weeks. Five points against Rutgers, eight against Minnesota,
four against Ohio State. He had a pretty quiet thirteen
points against USC but another kind of quiet game offensively
for him. Five points here tonight. What have you seen
(23:14):
from Nolan Winter? Is this a little bit of regression
to the mean? Is he maybe getting a little you know,
tired as we're in the dog days of the college
basketball regular season.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Here, Dave, I don't think it's really been regression to
the mean in my eyes, just because I do think
that what we have seen from him is really the
player he is, if that makes sense. I think he
is the eleven twelve, thirteen point six or seven boards
type of guy, like I think he's at that point,
but on a trip like this with kind of some
(23:47):
weird matchups, like I kind of outlined. Within this UCLA team,
I mean, there's a reason that people thought UCLA could
contend really for winning this Big Ten conference. I think
they just a lot of talent over there. They've got
you know, good windspan, height, length, post work. So I
(24:07):
just feel like it's a bit of a tough stretch.
Dave and I think that Winter can find more success
against the team like Nebraska coming up later this week.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Nigga, I had one quick one out the door for you.
As you know, we're late in the night here. Badgers
will go ahead their next four matchups, next three in
particular Nebraska, Maryland, Northwestern. Those are teams that are five
hundred or below in conference play. You know, how important
to you is this upcoming stretch before the Badgers kind
of launched into a tough group of games.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
Makes it incredibly important. You know, some fans were down
obviously on my board, understandably after a loss, and you know,
I broke something down and I said, I see this
Wisconsin team winning four out of their next five. So
I think that even though you mentioned some of those records,
a team like Northwestern still can be scary. You know,
Iowa a lot of offensive talent. But personally, I'm with you.
(24:57):
I'd pay four out of five and certainly getting at
least two out of those three.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
My friend Nickos in twenty four to seven Sports. As always, man,
we appreciate chopping on.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
Thank you, guys, I talk to you real too.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
All right, there, he goes nickoson of twenty four to
seven sports joining us here and uh coming back. We
will have a head coach, Greg Guard as he talked
with Brian Butch after this game that's coming up next.
Don't go anywhere. This is the Jankse Curty Solutions Basketball
postgame show.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
Left right, not a Blackwell, Blackwell for three straight on
straight in Blackwell a cold blood a triple eighty one
to eighty UCLA fifty five seconds trenaming.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Welcome back to the Janks Curty Solutions Basketball postgame show.
Janekse Curty Solutions can give you the power you never
thought possible. Learn how jank can integrate your world. Visit
jksecurity dot com. Badgers fall to the Bruins eighty five
eighty three, had coach Greg Gard met with our Brian
Butch after the game.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
Moments go Brian Butch caught up with Badger's head coach,
great guard coach.
Speaker 8 (26:08):
Let's start here. Obviously, a really tight, physical game on
the road. What do you take away from it? Well,
defensive late, Brian, we you know, we had a plan
coming in and we we didn't get the paint shut
off enough and obviously I thought.
Speaker 7 (26:22):
We guarded and fouled too much. That We're putting them
at the line twenty eight times, and that's what they
if you look through when they've had success, they've gotten
to the line a lot, and they haven't relied a
lot on three point the three point shot. It's been
at the rim points in the paint, and and then
obviously the free throw line. And I thought we never
completely got that under control. As much as we worked
(26:44):
on it, as much as we talked about it. You know,
we were able to score, but you know, we can
never string and then we got six stops the second half,
four rebounds in two turnovers, and you can't. You can't
be on the road and get into one of those.
Speaker 8 (26:58):
Where we're trading baskets when you look at obviously offensively,
though John Blackwells second half really continued to get to
the basket, played through the contact. It was one of
those physical games. Offensively, what do you take away from them?
Speaker 7 (27:09):
I thought we did a lot of good things. You know,
we shot twenty one free throws. We probably could have
shot twenty one more. I mean, it was real physical,
which we knew it was going to be. We knew
that it was gonna be that type of game. Specifically,
U C LA plays like a Big ten team, even
though they're new to the league. They've always played like
a team in our league, and we knew it was
going to be that, and we had to play through.
(27:30):
I think we took care of the ball, you know,
we turned it over, you know, five times early in
both halves. Then I felt just gave them confidence, you know,
the four point possession at the end of the half
with the intentional file see what the league says about that.
But I just thought we just didn't do enough things.
Obviously defensively, we got to be able to get stops
(27:51):
and string that together. And in defensive rebound we gave
up ten defensive or offensive rebounds to them, and that
gave them life and gave them confidence.
Speaker 8 (28:00):
When you look at this league, it keeps going constant.
You guys, got another one coming up against Nebraska, obviously.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
A tough one.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
Some teaching points to move forward, but when you look
at it, kind of what you got to do to
get yourselves ready for that.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
What does that look like for you guys? Well, I
mean we bounce right back.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
You know, it's been over a month since I've had
to have a talking like this in the locker room.
So we'll learn from it, just like we've learned from
the others. And you know, there's no rest for the weard.
You really get Nebraska team coming in on Sunday, So
we got to, you know, get our travel back tomorrow
and get rested up and then ready to prepare for Nebraska.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
All right, there was Badger's head coach Greg Guard talking
with Brian butch Nick final thoughts on this loss for
Wisconsin on to the.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Next long season.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Still fifteen and four Badgers got Nebraska at home on Sunday,
licking their chops.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Yeah, it is not great. Yeah, but you never know.
They can always be dangerous.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
But that game will be at the Cole Center's Badger's
return home pipoff is that noon pregame coverage.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
We'll begin right.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Here at eleven AM, and then of course we will
have the Jane K. Scurty Solutions Basketball postgame show afterwards,
so stick around for that as well. For our producer
Casey James, for Nick Brucewitz, I'm Dave Gasper.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Thank you for listening. Once again.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
The final score UCLA eighty five, Wisconsin eighty three. This
has been the Jane Ksecurty Solutions Basketball postgame.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
Show, and that Clark with the second he missed intentionally, Alesmik.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Grabs it too late.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
It's Ober and UCLA wins it by two. How's the
heck of a college basketball game tonight? But the Badger's
fall two point short here at Paul Pavilion
