Speaker 1 (00:00):
Take Farm Center in Champagne, Illinois, alongside Brian Butch, our
engineer Dave McGannon, Kelly Freeman back at a Network studio.
This is Matt Lapay. We welcome you to Wisconsin basketball
Game two of the Big Ten Conference season. Wisconsin ohen
to one in league play eight and two overall against
the Illinois Fighter Alanai, Illinois also to one in Big
(00:21):
Ten games six and two overall. Before we get started,
let's pause ten seconds for station identification. Ten for an ID.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field Well Butcher. Both
teams trying to get on the board here in Big
Ten play. But you know, one of the things that
the coaching staff they've been talking about is we were
getting on the plane yesterday. They like what they've seen
(00:41):
out of this team on the practice floor. In the
last couple of days. I've lost couple in a row.
It was frustrating. On Saturday. They were uncharacteristically high with
the turnovers, very leaky defensively. But they also know that
you got to turn the page pretty quickly, and it
seems like at least on the practice floor, they've done that.
And now they're up against the Illinois team that looks
(01:02):
a lot different from a year ago, but still very
very talent.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Yeah, you've had two really good tests against a really
good Michigan team and then against a really good Marquette team. Well,
this is also a really good Illinois team. See, you've
got another test. But you've you know, your awards have
come out a little bit as far as what are
some areas that you need to correct. The beautiful thing
about the game of basketball is you don't have to
wait that long to have another opportunity to fix the
(01:28):
things that are all fixable. And that's what this team
has done. The coach staff showed them areas to improve.
Now they've got the opportunity to go out there and
put it on tape and say, coach, we're listening to you,
we're listening to what you're showing us, and we're fixing it.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Oh, the schedule was released. I think this was this
four game block that jumped out to me. I mean, obviously,
the Arizona game is big, the Marquette game is always big.
You know, ended up playing Pitt at Greenbriar. That was
that was obviously a significant win for Wisconsin. But this
block with Michigan, Marquette Illinois. Although Butler did lose tonight
(02:01):
to North Dakota State that Modus still has a nice
looking team. This is where you do answer. You find
out things you can get away with. Lapses against some
of these opponents maybe that you face in the b
U Y the bye games not so much now. So
they look to gain a lot here in this block
of four games, without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Well, you learn, and that's the biggest thing that you
can take away from it is you learn. You you
look at UTRGV, you close game, you win, do you
really listen? I'm trust I'm sat in the seats like yeah, sure, yeah,
but you're dozing off during film session, Like you get
through it. Okay, we weren't great, but we still went well.
(02:44):
There's no dozing off after the last two games. Now
it's hey time to put it out there. Tie up
the sneakers a little bit tighter, and you know, you
gotta find a way to get.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
One to night Big Ten game number two out of
twenty and yeah, even with the eighteen team conference, it
remains a twenty game Big Ten schedule. Your officials for
ten nights match up Jeffrey Anderson, Brian Dorsey and Rob
Riley as the Badgers will come out of the traveling
Cardinal Unis and the white trim Illinois in the home
white and the orange in blue trip. Yeah, Jeffrey Anderson.
(03:15):
So for those who watch college basketball, the Highees alert
and the Highees Alert. And if you don't know what
we're talking about, well, as Prosy would say, Google.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
I'll tell you in one day exactly is out about though.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Thomas slav I, Shen Stephen Krowe ready to jump center,
and it's the Badgers and the Alini about to get going.
And it's this series really has swung. Wisconsin owned Illinois
winning fifteen straight and now Illinois would turn of the
favor the Alini eight in a row, winning in Madison
(03:52):
last March, beating Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
Two very entertaining, high speing games were real. Lloy just
made the plays down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
And last year was a little bit of booty ball
for Illinois. Going to be three get to the rim,
so different style.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Ryan Dorsey ready to put the ball in the air,
ivasit Shin Kraw ready to jump center, toss and tap
to Wisconsin and from our vantage point, by the badger's bench.
Wisconsin moving to our right, and we are underway. Illinois
straight up defensively clesman off the crowd, ball screen and
a throw up back the crowd. Three in the air
left of the circle. Back on you no good tray
white the rebound for Illinois. The a line I moving
(04:29):
to our left. In the first half of play, the
Yaka Shonas will set the floor throwing to Colin Boswell
at the mid court logo. He's with Klesman Boswell on
the left wing, throwing two humberk cows trying to three
left of the circle of brick to the right, long
rebown to Blackwell, pushing front Ford for Wisconsin, drives to
the rim and the layup is good for Blackwell taking
(04:50):
at the distance for the first points.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Good easy bucket and transition early on there for.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Josh Kylin Boswell off the evisitch screen, stops right elbow,
turns it out the ch Shonas kicks at the Boswell
shakes and walk trying to juke left, then move right
around kraw turnover Illinois.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
And initially defensively Wisconsin. Much tighter as far as driving angles. Yes,
you're gonna get in the middle, but it's tighter, so
now all of a sudden they've got to kick that
back out much more right.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Quite a minute into the game too, nothing Wisconsin. John
Tanjay at the top of the circle against Trey White
Tanja right Laneline throws it up high off the glass,
around the rim and in for Tanjay and it's for nothing.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Wisconsin getting downhill, getting to the paint early and off
the good thing here.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, shonas S dribbling and it's not the way. A
steal from kraw sends it ahead to John Blackwell. Another
Illinois turnover. There's Klesman on the left wing and the
Badgers set the offense. Blackwell left of the center circle,
throwing to Noel in Winter. He's with Evasich high on
the right. One dribble. Winter turns, throws to kraw crowl
(05:54):
against Tomer Kows gives off the Blackwell curls around a
crow screen tend on the shack block. Blackwell bounces the
crow Stevie left of the lane, starting to back backing,
single covers left shoulder, turn up right hand short, no good.
EVAs HiT's the rebound for Illinois and had forty five
gone by for nothing Wisconsin. Biswell off the Evison screen
left of the lane or whips it to Tray White
(06:15):
open three right corner is good. White just his fifth
hit from distance this season. In sixteen trones four to
three Wisconsin, were two minutes in Crow outside rights bounces
the Blackwell baseline right, White defending Blackwell starts to back
turns baseline, throws it out that Tom Jay ran out
(06:37):
of room the Blackwell step on the baseline turnover Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
And there was nothing there on that initial rip through
that he had. Kick that ball out, get it swung,
get the ball back. But those are the areas where
John gets those turnovers that he just doesn't need.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Man John had a handful of them, four of them
in the Marquette game, but did score seventeen points. Still
still growing in the different role for John this year
as opposed to his freshman season two fifteen gone by
four to three Wisconsin. Yakut Shonas driveling right of the lane,
feeds Boswell tries a three left with the circle. Good
(07:11):
for Caylon Boswell, who has been struggling from three. Not
unlike MaTx Klesmand, there's a body of work that will
tell you still got to respect there's long shooting ability.
Illinois leaves six to four a little more than two
and a half minutes gone by Proud right of the
circle throws the winter left of the wheel, clips at
the Klesbant curls with the dribble. Nice leave try to
(07:32):
get it in the winter is deflected taken away. Yaka
schonas on the push a pull up three right of
the circle rattles out no good rebound tipping the air
pulled down by klesban for Wisconsin about three minutes in
six to four the aligne h Winter out front for
the Badgers. Throwing at the black Well, it's three yakut
shonas baseline left out the Nolan tries a three left
side left it short, no good yaka shonis. The rebound
(07:55):
out let the Boswell long bounce to Humry cows left
quarter three snap it off, missed it. The rebound Evasich
at the right block against Crow pivots to the baseline,
throws it back out to Colin Boswell Boswell off the
evasage screen driving on Krow right in the lane goes
through the paint. He's Trey White low on the right
spits through the feathers up and edit counts of the fowl.
(08:16):
Crowl and Winter were there, contact coming. It's an an
one and the foul of Cesma Stephen Prow the game's first.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
And then on Topville was one of the keys rebound
in the bass one. You see BIGS team coming out
now because again gives up the offensive rebound and then
on top of it, he gets hitting with a foul
yep because of it, and that's just you got to
clean those up. You can't give this align It team
extra opportunities. They're tough enough to guard the way they are.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Carter Gilmore coming in for crow as White hits the
free throw and he has six early points for Illinois
averages seven a game, so a nine point run for
the ALIGNI nine to four Illinois, three and a half
minutes gone by Pater Gilboy outside left throwing the NXT
plesband around of Winter screen plesband right lane, line looks
at the Gilmore turns at the tanja Tanja to the
(09:03):
line Tanja and the lane inside feet caught by Gilmore
low and left and a crab mustles it up and in.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Such a great job of gathering a little bit of
a shot fake, then goes explodes through the body.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Nine to six. Illinoy and I'd quite four minutes gone
by boswell round the Evasit screen backs up beyond the
three point line, sizes up. Winter takes a three straight
away off the back of the rim. No good offensive
rebound Tray White, he's at the boswell. Another second chance
here for Illinois. Evasitch against Gilmore, backing single coverage in
(09:36):
the lane, goes up left hand back rim, no good rebound.
Winter for Wisconsin out let the blackwell up the left
side line of the front door for the Badgers, I
throw the Nolan Winter right of the circle, wits the
klesban outside right around a screen from Winter, throws to Gilmore.
He'll try a three left of the circle. Bucket Carter
Gilmore with five quick ones and we're tied at nine.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
And he came off five from Marquette as well. Same
energy he brought in that Marquet, an energy that was
needed right now.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
He had six rebounds and five assists in that game
as well. Yaka Shonas dribbles to the free throw line.
Feeds even said he'll try a three left of the circle,
bots it down over a black well. He's better than
thirty eight percent from three is the seven to one
softbore from Croatia. Twelve nine Illinois. Tanja throwing a quarter
Gilmore high on the right, turns at the Winter left
(10:22):
of the circle. Five minutes in Illinois of three Winter
a hand off the Tanja. Tanja on the left side
being dogged by Boswell, left of the lane inside feed
Winter lower the right, goes up and he'll finish.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
John did a good job of getting into that defender's
body then throwing that lob up, but he just created
a little bit after extra seconds that the defender had
to help up. So that's why Nolan was a wide open.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Twelve eleven, Illinois, about five and a half minutes gone
by yakut Shonas against Tonjay driving stops right block, turns
it out to Tray White. White on the right wing,
bounces Yakahonas took a look. Tanjay covers him up and
now backed off a little bit and then a soft
path stolen away by Klesman on the run. He's got
Boswell tried a little euro step to Klesman and just
lost his balance. Lost the ball. Turnover Wisconsin. Here's Boswell
(11:09):
finds Yaka shonas dries the lane. The lay up is good.
First points for yakat shonas It's fourteen to eleven in
Little Old fourteen oh five left of the first half,
John tanjay around at Gilmour, scream and rolls off the
left wing, steps back three in the air off the rim.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
No good.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
The rebound of Boswell thirteen fifty five left, first half,
fourteen eleven I Little Ois Boswell, the former Arizona Wildcat
turns it out. Hummerk hows he'll flip a three right wing,
bangs off the rim.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
No good.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Nolan Winter tips and then secures the rebound. A quick
out let the Blackwell gliding to the front court trying
to spin move with a dribble, and it was knocked
out of bounds. But it belong to Wisconsin, as we
have our first time out of the night to Night's

left to the first staff in literally fourteen Wisconsin eleven.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field, Wisconsin Basketball brought

Thirteen thirty nine led to the first half in Littali
fourteen Wisconsin eleven.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
I think early offensively for Wisconsin, when they're able to
turn the corner, get to the paint. It had some
really good looks. A couple of threes that didn't love
Jon Tanjo with a step back three. You can get
that set at any point. Keep moving that ball around.
Then defensively you got clear on the boards. Have you
given up two offensive rebounds early on here?
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Both Brad Underwood and Greg Guard going to their bench.
Jack Jenicky on the floor for Wisconsin, Kamari McGhee as
well and bounce past to Stephen Krow High the right
Xavior Amos Also in the game, Crow and Blackwell round
out the five. Blackwell feeds Amos high on the right
or to JANICKI on the right way. Janick slips it
into Amos long on the right goes to the rim
and got fouled. Hexavier Amos will go to the free
(13:13):
throw line and it's one of the young ones for Illinois.
Mores Johnson, a mister basketball in the state of Illinois,
had a riverdale. He has called for the foul under
what's talked about wanting to get Johnson and Will Riley,
fellow freshman in the lineup a little bit more on
the floor, a little more. Both are out there right now.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah. Johnson junior averages two and a half offense rebounds
of games. So one of those areas on that side
of the floor, on the offensive side, you got to
make sure you know where he's at. Xavier did a
really good job and that last ball screen action rolling
to the basket harder and faster. That's why the defense
was late getting over there. So when you set that screen,
you gotta roll hard. Good things are gonna happen. Right now,
Big Steve a little sometimes is a little slowganing down there.
(13:54):
The faster you go, the better opportunity you get to
get in that little pocket passage you can get to
the free throw line.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
And Xavier Amus pays it off by knocking down the
first as well as the second Badger's within one and
Gibbs Lawhorn in the game right block feeds Yakazonas back
out the Gibbs Longhorn. Lawhorn tries a three on the
right side, no good and he goes Dallas called they'll
get Jake Davis transferred from Mercers sixty six sophomore out
(14:21):
of a Cordsville, Indiana and the Badger's back on offense
thirteen oh eight left of the half, fourteen thirteen of them.
Lois Kamari McGee out front, got Pachonas defending. Now krowd
flips to Janicky dribbles to the free throw line in
the lane, slipping in the crowd. Lower on the left
goes up and end. Nice delivery from Jenicky to set
up Big Stevie and.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
That offensive side of the ball the pick and roll action.
They're hitting that big on the roll a lot.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Here Gibbs Lawhorn throwing a will Riley outside left. Janicki
defends doctor Gibbs Lawhorn right side off the yaka Shonas
screen to throw the Yakatzonas at the top left hand
ribble left elbow out. The Gibbs Longhorn refeeds Yakatshona driving
in a reach in foul is called Blackwell getting in there.
And then we'll go against John Blackwell, who's father Glint
(15:07):
and played down here for the align. I back in
the eighties.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Sawmon the stands, always wearing a Badger shirt. Oh yeah, absolutely, yes.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Sir, proud of his son who's carving his own niche
the collegiate level. Yakazonas a block inbound past to Johnson,
gets it back to Yakazonas at the top of the key.
I flipped the Davis back out to Yakazonas past the
bobble gathered by Davis, hands off to dra Gibbs Walhorn
right side out the Yaka Shonas took a look, drives
(15:36):
left the lane inside feet Johnson lower the right has
ripped away by Jack JANICKI what work on the interior
from JANICKI up the left sideline for Wisconsin twelve ten
left and a half fifteen fourteen Wisconsin. Where's Blackwell spinning?
Drives to the cup, hangs in the air and threw
it away, wanted Janicky. And there's one of those unforced
turnovers you get caught in the air, and there was
(15:58):
nothing John could do. Had been just kind of created
his own turnals.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
You said it as whenever you said it up in
the air. Usually good things don't happen when you say
up in the air.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
And that was a great example of he left his feet,
didn't know where he was going with the basketball. It's
going to result in a turnover ninety percent of the
time that could shown.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
This comes out Colin Boswell back in twelve minutes left
and the half Badgers up one. Will Riley ride elbow
feeds Davis. He'll try three on the left side. That's
off the right side iron no good whistle inside foul
called this will go against Dray Gibbs lawhorn Well, Illinois
will have the under twelve media time out. America Family
Insurance is the official insurance partner of UW Athletics. Because

available in your grocery's freeze or eleven fifty two left
in the first half. Wisconsin fifteen a little only fourteen,
and you're.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Looking early on in this game. Wisconsin only four three
point attempts, but there's six of ten from two from
the floor and a lot of it's been that rolling
action by the Bigs. Xavier scored on one, Steve scored
on one, So putting pressure at the rim, he either
won three is or putting pressure at the rim. Scotts's
up by one because they're putting pressure a thrim.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
And you got Kamari McGee out there with Xavier, Amos Jacks, Nicky,
Max Klusma, Stephen Crowe with he throwing a clubman out
between the arts Kyl and Boswell the defensive screen from
prow A throw it a. Xavier Amos tries at three
on the left side, hits the right side iron and
out good, and the rebound comes down to Ivasitch of
Illinois Island Boswell at the point for the Alina Kills.
(18:08):
The dribble bounces the Mores. Johnson flips to Riley to
the line. Riley a step in the lane, flipped it
back out the Boswell sends to Riley outside left. He'll
fire a three over Kraal Bank that Miston rebound McGee
going up, tipped it gathered by Jack Jenicky where it
comes Jenicky four Wisconsin with the front core. He'll feed
Klesby wide open three right side and nailed it. Max
(18:29):
Klesband hits six of them on Saturday against Marquette, sticks
his first triple tonight.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Well. It starts about rebounding the basketball in the first
three minutes the game not good ever since Wisconsin's been
really good.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Eighteen fourteen Wisconsin ten fifty five. First half. Evasitch single coverage,
Xavier Amos now a dig from Klesman, who knocked it
away and out of bounds. It'll belong to Illinois with
thirteen on the shot clock, ten fifty two left to
the first half, eighteen to fourteen Wisconsin and Boswell, who
(19:02):
had nine assist against the Badgers last year when he
was with Arizona. That came out in Tucson. In bounce
pass to Morez Johnson at the top, hands off the drake,
gibbs law Horn on the right wing and a reach
in foul there. Max Klusband from behind taking a swat
at it, and that'll be the first foul on.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Next Yeah, just one. You didn't need to if it's
just you don't mind being aggressive, but that's just not
a smart fought.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Well teams with three fouls in bounce past Boswell baseline
right to Johnson at the top of the circle, chance
at the Riley right lane line, kicks to gibbs law Horn,
cuts off the right wing and the lane fadeaway eight
footer will dance out no good, the raboun Morez Johnson
on the left up no good and the tip in
on the other side the right side from Will Riley.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
And you gotta find Johnson because I mean he's averaging
two and a half offensive rebounds at game.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Max was when the left side throws the Stephen crowd
eighteen sixteen Wisconsin, ten twenty left and the half. Here's
Amos for three left side splash it. Exavier Aimus with
five twenty one sixteen Wisconsin ten ten left.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
Of the first half.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Joe'illy with a basketball out between the arcs against Amos.
Back's in a dig from McGee knocking loose. Boswell's there
left the Lingos to the goal, hanging up, got it
counted and a foul. Jack Janicki trying to fly in there.
There's goal for the foul. It's an a one for
Illinois as the Badger's leaders cut to three. Jack Nick
(20:35):
John Tanjay Nolan Wincher coming back in a four Wisconsin
Tylan Boswell will go to the free throw line sixty
one percent at the foul line. Twenty one, eighteen Wisconsin.
Halfway through this first half of play, Boswell six points
(20:55):
and five rebounds. In their conference opener add Northwestern. The
free throw is good for Boswell. He has six he
averages nine a game. Twenty one to nineteen Wisconsin. Amary
McGee out there with Winter. You've got Plesbant Crowl and
Tanja rounding out the five crowd right of the circle
with it inside and the pass goes through Tanjay picked
(21:16):
off by Trey White down the lane to the rim
slam dunk off a live ball turnover. We're tied at
twenty one. The passer went right through the hands in
an easy money opportunity for Trey White, Gilmore in for
Crow Blackwell will check in for Wisconsin, in for Kamari McGee.
(21:41):
So the five on the floor, you got Gilmour along
with Blackwell, Klesban Tanja, and Nolan Winter. Tied at twenty one.
Nine left to the first half ordered Gilmore outside left
throwing the Winter right of the circle interfeats klesmant Max
turns in the lane one pump of the fade away
ten foot will dance in for Klesby the s five and.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
That ballstreen action. Wisconsin is getting whatever they want. They're
either getting that driver or they're getting that pocket pass
to the big.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Tyland Boswell up top for Illinois. Boswell the free throw
line feeds Tray Whites, White gets it out to Humriy
Cows along the right sideline gives off the riley feeds
White and a turnover for Illinois. You know there's a
dribble handoff there the foul called on the Will Riley.
(22:29):
That'll be his first.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
That's why it's so important. When you do have that
dribble handoff, you got to come to a jump stack
pointing down. They're looking for it and they're gonna they're
gonna get you out.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
Riley out Yaka Shonas is back in twenty three to
twenty one Wisconsin, with nine oh eight left of the
first half. Up the flour is black Well, full of
the Badgers. They Carter Gilmour outside left, Gili with five
points here in this first half, a passer, Max Klusber
right Laneline shovels it into Gilmour. Reverse layup is good
going left or right, and Carter Gilbmotor has seven.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Great vision by Max.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
It's twenty five twenty one Wisconsin, eight forty eight left
in the half. Here's Bisewell out the Yakazonas left of
the link kicks to Boswell for three straight on in
and out. No good Blackwell the rebound a whistle though in.
A foul is called. This will go against Wisconsin and
they run. They get Carter Gilmore Gilo that'll be his first.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
But I'm fine with a foul like that, Matt, like
when you talk about offensively and defensively what you've been
doing offense. Illinois been getting the majority of their stuff
off of offensive rebounds. So if you get a fil
like that because you're seting the tone of you're not
gonna get any open looks and offensive rebound opportunities, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Yaka shonas baseline right well in bound of White white
against Kilmore in the right wing four point leave Wisconsin
eight thirty five left in the first half. Evisage Todd
of the circle checked by Nolan Winter her hand off
the yaka Shonas whips it, the hummery cows on the
right side, takes it off the wing, blot it out
the yaka chonas good look at the three left side
off the rim. No good offensive reb down Eva sich
(24:01):
nfoul call here against Wisconsin. Other offensive rebound.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
They're gonna call on John Blackoo. John was engaged there.
That could have easily gone the other way.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Yeah, I mean, you've.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Got a guard just because it's a seven footer, is
John was engaged. I've trusted plenty of times when the
guard hasn't been engaged, you can't call that, but John
was engaged there and.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
That's two fouls on Blackwell. But Gee is in for
him inbounds pass. Humber House feeds White, he'll flip a
three right side back rihim. No good, y'all. Gatt shown
us the rebound, another chance, extended possession for Illinois. Y'all Gatt.
Shona stops right. Illbow feeds Boswell inside feed Eva six
catches big against McGee. Pass goes through White, turnover Illinois.
Here comes Max Klus went up the left sideline of
(24:45):
the front court for Wisconsin. Eight minutes left of the break.
Twenty five twenty one. The Badgers Gilmore turned down the
three dribbles into the lane, backing, try to slip it
in the winter, Pass goes behind him. It's loose, Gilmore
to the floor. They get to tie up and the
arrow belongs to ILLINOI. As we have the under eights
media timeouts. FS Envision ced Corn and FS High Soy

WPPA dot org for recipes and information. Seven fifty two
left to the first half was CONSINT twenty five Illinois
twenty one.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
You talk about Wisconsin and only having a four point lead,
it's really I mean, they've got six turnovers and they've
given up six offense rebounds. This should be about a
ten point game. Defensively, they're doing a really good job
except for closing out possessions.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Doctor Jonas into White kickout ev Since tries the three
left side rattles out no good or ebound another offensive
rebounds seven of them for Illinois. Boswell running in the lane,
whis so on. They'll get a block on Klesman.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Oh second, yeahcause he had that yep, cheap one reaching behind.
And that's why when you have those cheap ones, that's
why he said it's just not a smart fole, because
that's a tough one. You try to get a charge. Nowadays,
with the rules, you're not gonna get a charge. But
you're in a position where that's all that you can do. Now,
that's your second.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
So he's on the bench with two. John Blackwell is
on the bench with two. Jack ja Nicki is out
there for Wisconsin along with McGee, tan Jay Winter and
Gilmour one and one for Kylin Boswell on team found
number seven and Boswell connects on the front end. How
he earns the bonus. So now it was seven and
a half minutes left in the first half, and how
(26:43):
does guard tandem with two foul I.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Was gonna say, how does Wisconsin weather this? That's the
question we saw when John Tanja picked up his third
against Marquette. How did they handle that? Not real? Well?
Now what have they learned?
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Let's find out. Boswell hits both three throws. Twenty five
twenty four, Wisconsin, seven point thirty left in the first half.
Famary McGee throwing the carter Gilmore flipped Jack Janicki at
the top quick pass. Tanja cuts off the left wing.
Tanzi and the lane he pivots almost lost it and
he ended up blocking with the ball turnover. Wisconsin got
bothered in the Paints did Tanjay that got him out
(27:19):
of sink.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
So seven turnover left, seven offense rebound, seven turnovers and
they're still up by two.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Boy, give them only eight of twenty four for the field.
Three of fifteen from three. Here's Yaka Shonas goes into
Boswell and he lost the handle. It's loose. Boswell trying
to dig it out of there. He does. The humbley
Couse feeds Yaka Shonas left hand Ribbel kicks to Evisis,
swoops off the left wing, kicks at the humbley Couse
on the right side. Gilmore covers them up. The give
(27:47):
off the Boswell floats on the left side to Yakachonas
bobbing against Nolan Winter. A little dig from Janicki deflected
the pass. It's loose, it's out of bounds and the
belonging to Wheel and Oi. With seven tenths of a
second left on the shot clock.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Think they're gonna go. I think they're gonna change this.
This should wiscott sabasketball. Let's see, yep, they will change Yeah,
that should be. It will be Wisconsin ball. There's six
fifty two.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
That's it. Brad Underwood will Uh yeah, work on the
acting skills and make it differ. There's right in front
of us. It was the correct class. Here's Winter throws
a McGee out the carter. Gilmour hands off the Kamori
McGee on the left side, takes it off the wing.
Now retreats at the top of the circle. Gives off
the Nolan. Winter. He'll hand it to Tanja twelve with
(28:35):
the shot clock Tanja right of lane Beryl and try
to push it up. Knock the way, got it back
low on the right, gets it out of there to McGee,
whips the Gilmour takes the three. Now takes the three
left side. It's off the rim. No good either. S's
three bound for the A line on six twenty left
and a half two point lead. Wisconsin. Tyland Boswell hits
the brakes at the top of the circle with the
shot fake, gives off the tray White White past deflected
(28:57):
stolen by Kamari McGee again. The badger with the act
of hands and then the gee trying to wiggle out
of a trap is found by Trey White.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
That'll be his first Wisconsin on the defensive ends. I'm
gonna use the word and lead here because they have
been ye. Now, as far as closing out the possession,
I'm gonna use the word because of the offensive rebounds,
but what they've done and how they've closed out, and
how they've limited threes and made the three point shot
for Illinois really tough to make. Like they've been flying
(29:26):
all over They've been there have been deflections, you name it.
They've played together, they've been tight for when the driving
lanes have been there, and then they've sprayed out to
the shooters.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
It's been really good turnover count. Even it's seven. Xavier
Amus in there throwing a tan Jay feeds Stephen Krow
six oh three left of the half twenty five twenty
three Wisconsin. Tanjay had the left hand on the left side,
right hand to the left elbow. Feach crowd, good, look
at a three ryu of the circle. That's short. No good,
y'all get shown us the rebound for real at all,
and they'll push it up the floors. Throwing the tray
white at the top of the arc off the evsit screen.
(29:56):
Left of the lane is white, got cut off by Krow.
Left lane line. A pass for Yakachona steps back, He'll
try a three and it's good. It contested three over
kraw Yakachona's his first triple twenty six, twenty five of
the Norse. But he goes into kraw single coverage Iva
Sitch at the right block and a foul is called
(30:16):
and they will get it on Evamislav Iva Sich. That'll
be his first and team found number six.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
You just wanted to get his full name and didn't you? Yeah,
just you were practicing. How many days were you practicing?
Speaker 1 (30:30):
About three?
Speaker 2 (30:31):
I was gonna say, how many times do you think
you've said his name? A lot?
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Here's Kamari McGee goes into Kraw Ivasitch defending single coverage
Alow on the right, turning right shoulder, left hand flip
from Kraw is off the mark. No good wonder out
for Wisconsin, and.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
That's where just Dee rulls hard. He doesn't even have
to make.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
A post move yakaonas he's Evasis clean look at a
three straight away, left it short and the rebound white
saved to Will Riley cuts to the rim and the
layup is good again. The second chance points time out
greg guard. Illinois leads twenty eight to twenty five. There
is Illinois with eight offensive rebounds, and they have a
(31:13):
nine to nothing lead in second chance points. Thirty second
timeout taken by the Badgers with five h five left
to the first half, twenty eight twenty five the a
Lini and Matt.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
They're just killed themselves right now. I mean, that's really
what it comes down to. You're not cleaning up defensively
in the half court set. You're doing what you need
to do offensively. I talked about his steep rolled hard
to the basket. He's catching that on the rim. He
doesn't need to them make a post move. He doesn't
roll far enough down he catches that ball, needs to
make the post move, misses it short. What happens, Illinois's
(31:48):
out running. Now you're scrambling. Now you give up the
offensive rebound, and now you're down by three.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Illinois thirty seven percent of the field in just four
of seventeen from the three.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Point That's what I mean. Like they're doo Like they're
guarding the three point line really, really well right now.
They're hurting themselves in other areas.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
I mean, the Badgers will play on without Max Clesman
and John Blackwell both on the bench with two fouls.
It's McGee Amos croud Tanjay and Janicki on the fourth
for Wisconsin, they'll give it the front port throwing a
kraw kraw light of the circle. Need some help, They'll
flip the Amos at the top. You'll feed McGhee Famuri
sens it to Tanja twelve to shoot Kanj off the
(32:30):
screen from kraw at three on the way is off
the left side eye are no good Ivasis.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
The rebound for Illinois.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
The Madger's not lighting it up from the three point
line either three out of ten ya could shown us
out between the circles off the screen from the Evasich.
I'll throw out the visage on the pick and pop
dries at three rattles out. No good Tanjay. The rebound
for Wisconsin four twenty five left to the half twenty
eight to twenty five Illinois Kanj throwing at Amos. He'll
flip the Janicki on the left wing. The cons past
(32:58):
crowd top of the circle now holds now one dribble
pops at the Amos, turns it to McGee high on
the left, curls to the line across the lane, feeds
krawd back to Kamari baseline right scoots through the lane
eight to shoot Ton jay a three is in the
air left of the circle. That's no good. Eva sits
the rebound. With four minutes left of the half, three
(33:18):
point lead. Illin oil a nine to seven point run.
Will Riley Slotin's right of the lane, flips to Ivasitch,
gets it back to Riley baseline right, stops, eats Ivasich
in the lane, goes up, missed it rebound Amos for
Wisconsin three point forty left of the first half. Badger's
still down three. Janicki feeds Krawd top of the circle,
(33:39):
Ral finds Kamari McGee high on the left, looks around
a crowd scream chased by yakachonas ok to Stevie for
three left side and Money's big bucket.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
Yeah, and it's a big bucket because maybe it gets
big Steve going here.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
A little bit tight at twenty eight with three twenty
he left in the first half, just the third three
point hit of this season for crowd. Yakachona's outside left
isolated on Xavier Amos. He'll try a three, and that's good.
Yakacona's is second three and it's thirty one twenty eight
Illinois with three h five left in the half.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Yeah, it's just a tough shot, now you good? Is
really good?
Speaker 1 (34:17):
The Xavier Amos left of the lane, throwing the crowd
prowl out of the circle. Had a look but turned
it down. Kraal throws her back out the Amos Dray
gives Walhorn back in there on Amos now picks up
Agee on the switch chot clock at tenth. Jeniki dribbles
off the left wing in the lane one Pump bounces
crowd low on the right, turns and scores with the
right hand.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
That's good job of Steve to get in there. And
then ceil and sit on the legs.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Thirty one thirty Illinois with two thirty left in the
first half. Cost Paris Yakachonas will set the floor for Illinois.
Hop between the circles, off the white screens, puts the
white screen and roll to the rim, flip it up
and then it counts and a foul. We'll get crowd
inside and and one for the as a league.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Three.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Now for Illinois we have the under four media timeout.

Final Front Piscataway as Rutgers holds off Penn State eighty
to seventy six, bout five minutes left for the first half.
JIMMYD Classic Michigan thirty six, Arkansas twenty five to twenty
two left to the first half. Here in Champagne, Illinois thirty,
Wisconsin thirty.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
And I think what you've seen so far, there's Wisconsin team.
They've come out, They've answered the questions that I've had
on the defensive end, Matt. As far as being tighter,
playing together as a unit, we haven't seen straight line drives.
No right like what you saw against Marquette. You haven't
seen what you've seen our turnovers, offensive rebounds, that's it.
That's how Illinois is getting their their offense. And his
(36:25):
last play, you get a cut. Steve's late on the
help over there and then that's why he picks up
the foul. And Illinois at the free throw line with
an and one opportunity.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
For that's two fouls on prows or prow clesbon In
Blackwell with two fouls, no Illinois player with more than one.
Trey White at the free throw line, put together a
heck of a first half and he connects on the
free throw.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
And you look at Wisconsin their bench. They've come in
and they've given Wisconsin that's pop twelve points from their
bench too.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
Thirty four to thirty. Illatois two fifteen left in the
first half. Amos throwing to tan Jeck Tanjay on the
right side, White trying to dog him, stopping right blocks
puts to defender's reverse layup is good. Tanjay going right
to left.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
Well, we've seen Big ten play a little bit too.
That foul that was called earlier in the season is
not being called. There's two hands there. He had to
fight through it.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Two point lead Illinois fade away mid range right of
the lane, good for Yaka shown's thirty six thirty two
Illinois one fifty left in the first half. The e
to the front court right side for Wisconsin. Boswell defense.
McGhee left, all on extended flips to Janicki, throws it
back to Kamari, brings it out left wing, rips the
Winter at the top of the circle. I hand off
(37:36):
the Tanjay Tonjay versus White. A screen from Winter Tanjay
right lane line pushed it up in traffic way too hard,
no good or Evon Morez Johnson out let the Boswell won.
Twenty five left in the half, Illinois up four, Boswell
left Andervil of the free throw line lifted it out
the White good look at the three on the right
side is good and Trey White has fourteen first half points.
(37:57):
He has doubled his scoring average coming into this game.
Thirty nine, thirty two Illinois one ten left of the half.
Here's Xavier Amos feeds Winter. He'll try a three right
on the circle backrim no good rebound tap gathered by
Riley with Janicki back of feed y'all cant chonas down
the lage jop blocked inside by Amos, kept it in
play and ton Jay comes up with it. Oh, terrific
(38:17):
work by Xavier Amis. And then Tonjay got tripped up,
lost his balance, tapped at the winter right foul line
extended with forty eight seconds left to the half, Janicki
for three right side, got it, Jack Janicki with a
big triple thirty nine thirty five, villain all what a block.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Right, that's where it starts, like Xavery is able to
get the block. Now, come down, get a bucket. You're
sitting at a four point game. Get a stop here
and the.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
Time out taking my brad Underwood with thirty one point
three in the game clock, twenty on the shot clock.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
It's a huge turn of this game, sir, that moment
that was a big time rejection by Exavier Amos and
keeping it in play.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Keeping it in play all day. Bove. I mean, you're
you're looking at a situation where it's forty one one
thirty two yep, heading into half. Now you're sitting here
thirty five thirty nine. If you can get a stop,
you're gonna have eleven seconds to come back. If you
can get the off. If you can get the defensive rebound,
you get eleven seconds, get the stop, get a bucket.
You're looking at a two point game. You go from
nine to two. That's a huge point in this game.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
And you mentioned those offensive rebounds. You said Illinois is
very good at it was was fourteen, yeah, and was
not against Northwestern. But it's eight to one on the
offensive glass in favor of Illinois, nine to nothing with
second chance points. So thirty one point three left in
the half, twenty on the shot loock thirty nine thirty
(39:38):
five Illinois Bill O'Reilly Rushburn from Canada, Ontario, Canada, very
highly regarded player. In bounced pass Yakachonas twenty eight seconds left.
Now Ivasich against Carter Gilmour back up top Yaka Shonas
picked up by Gilmour on the switch. Is Yakachona's retreat.
Twenty seconds left and that shot clock at eight. Yaka
(39:59):
Chona drives a lane flipped up left hand, lasting room
no good offensive rebound, Tray White and a whistle. He
walked with a ball to Trey White after grabbing the
offensive rebounds. Now the Badgers can have the final opportunity
thirteen point eight seconds left in the half. Thirty nine,
thirty five Illinois. Here comes Camari McGee with ten seconds
the Ghee front court left against Coylin Boswell with six.
(40:21):
With five, McGee driving into Gilmour Low on the right,
throws it up, missed, it tipped in the air. No,
and the rebound of Whites in the first half has
come to an end. Entertaining first half here in Champagne,
Illinois will take a four point lead into the locker room.
There's the Badgers surviving foul trouble just.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Because say you've weathered it. You're forty. You haven't played
I mean, I think defensively played good, but your offense
you've given up way to the offense rebounds. You've feared
the ball over too much. You've had foul trouble down
for your You're fine.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Hit halftime here in Champagne, wiscons To Basketball, brought to
you by UW Health Sports Medicine, the healthcare team for
the Badgers and proud sponsors of UW Athletics. At the half,
Illinoy thirty nine, Wisconsin thirty five, we're back with a
halftime report presented by Culver's. This is Badger basketball from
lear Field. We're ready for the second half of afside
Bryant Butcher. I'm Matt Lapey. Badger's down fourth to break
(41:15):
thirty nine thirty five, Max Clesband, John Blackwell, Stephen Crow
each with two fouls. They're back in there to start
the second half. But Butch, as you said, they're fine
without those guys for a significant minute, especially Blackwell and
Klesband to be down just four and you're doing okay here.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Well, and it goes back to that series where you
look at Xavier Amos gets the block and then Janiki
drills the three. That's a big turning point, you know,
in this game.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
And Wisconsin will at the first possession of the second half.
Moving to where I left him. We're underway. Manx Clesmond
against the Yakut Shonas throwing to John Blackwell, checked by
Trey White, a fee to Stephen Crow top of the art.
He'll send it to Max Klesbet Plesband on the right hand.
Ubile stops with the right elbow. Some health pivots gets
it back out the Blackwell shot clock at ten. Blackwell
(42:04):
wants a screen from Winter, gets it, moves to his
left seven a shoot Blackwell left of the lane. He
stops and the crowd with three d shoot with two
with one up right handed. Stevie rolls off the right
side of the rim. No good and the rebound of
Yaka Jonas of Illinois and me why and I will
move to our right. In the second half, Boswell outside
left off the Evesi screen. I'll throw to the left
(42:27):
corner and Ben henrick House hits a triple thirty seven
percent for three coming into the game, and that's his
first pit of the night, his first points, seven point
lead Illinois. Klesbant feeds Winter on the left side, out
the crowd, top of the circle. Trout of the pass
for Klesbet kicks the Winter. He'll try a three left
of the wheel, right back at you, Nolan Winter a
(42:48):
triple forty two thirty eight Illinois.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
He wanted the first three. He gave it up.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
He ball came back to it. As soon as he
touched it. I knew what was going in. It is
going up. Minuted fifteen gone, second half. Colin boz Well
dribbles off the left wing. He'll throw it a white
fourteen first half points for Trey White in the lane
and then bounced it to nobody. Nobody available there in
the left corner. It goes out of bounds turnover Illinois
(43:13):
Trey White fourteen points of the first half, two out
of three from distance five of six from the field,
Winter to the front court. The pass for Klesbant cut
around Yakachonas drops at the Nolan takes the three left
of the lane, drives.
Speaker 2 (43:25):
To the goal.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
Reverse layup is good for Nolan Winter forty two to
forty Illinois.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
I really think he needs to be more aggressive, even
more in the second half.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
I mean he has the advantage here was Yakachonas goes
inside Ivas. It's low on the left, easy money with
the left hand five for Evasich. He averages sixteen.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
Per forty four to forty Illinois.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
About two minutes on second half, the Winter out high,
ivasitch the fens Nolan for a pass for crowd. He's
with the humbered cows. He's off the klesband Max in
the left wing out to Stevie. Took a look, turned
it down to Winter high and the right ten to shoot.
Winter on the right wing says the Blackwell baseline right.
Reverse layup right to left is good for Blackwell. He
(44:07):
is four forty four forty two Illinois seventeen forty remaining
trading buckets. Here in the early going second half, Boswell
off the high screen a mid range jump left wing,
danced off the rim. No good, whistle inside foul called
on Illinois. They'll get Trey White. That'll be his second,
his second entry. You see, if the Badgers can secure
(44:30):
some defensive rebounds. It was a problem, to say the
least in the first half to get the foul there
on White. And here comes Wisconsin down too early in
the second half. Crowd bounces to tanje tonj baseline left
around Boswell, Low on the left, pushed it up and
it bounced off the rim. No good, a whistle and
a foul called. This will go against Illinois. It will
(44:52):
go against humrick House. That will be his first.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Per team second.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
Second team foul on Illinois seventeen sixteen, remaining forty four
to forty two. The Ilini Blackwell baseline right in bounced
to tanjay Ton. Jay matched up with Kylin Boswell, Dunton
inside klesmt Low on the left. He'll catch him finish
and that was there.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
Illinois is playing the top side all he needed to
do is cut back door, and that's exactly what Max did.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
Sight at forty four, three minutes on second half. In
second half, Boswell ripples to the free throw line, bounces
yakachonas high on the left since to Boswell at the top,
crosses over right to left in the lane nicely. EVAs
it's low on the left for the finish.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Oh, that's a straight line drive. The first time all
game that we've seen that. So that's just one on
one defense has to be better there.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
Forty six forty four Illinois, sixteen forty remaining klesbant baseline right,
and he got found by Yaka shonas his klesman was
taking him off the bounce. Yaka Schonas with his first foul.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
Fell Illinois number thirty.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
Forty six forty four Illinois was sixteen minutes and thirty
nine seconds remaining three teen fouls on the line. Nine
Blackwell baseline right, will inbound for Wisconsin. Blackwell looks and looks,
try to get it into Stevie and that's knocked out
of bounds by Evasich in the right corner.
Speaker 2 (46:12):
Now where the balls out of bounds, it's a tough
firm end line out of bounds. It's the deep corner.
So if you're Wisconsin, you're still gonna run your normal
end line out of bounds here, but you've got to
really execute and screen.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
End bounce past the Winter open for three. He'll let
it fly, and mister Short got his own rebound and
the lay pushed it up in and one. Lord Nolan
Winter doing a little work here early in the second half,
and we are tied in forty six.
Speaker 2 (46:40):
We're gonna say it again, but he's gotta be more aggressive,
even more, yes, sir, because he's got the advantage here
right now, the way they're guarding, I mean, whether he's
at the five or the four. Offensively, he has what
he wants in front of him.
Speaker 1 (46:54):
Trey White guilty of the foul. That's his third. The
free throw is good for Nolan Winter. A White will
come out. Will Riley is in forty seven forty six, Wisconsin,
about three and a half minutes gone by in the
second half. Trey White had the electrifying first half, but
now in some foul difficulty on the bench. Here's Yakachona's
(47:17):
high screen ivisit you throw out the Humrick House high
on the left just to Boswell left quarter three is
good island Boswell with eleven and it only gets the
lead back forty nine forty seven.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
I think we're gonna be going back and forth the
whole bunch of rest the rest of this half.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
There's Tom Jay flips it indo Nolan Winter and walk
to the ball turn over a Wisconsin Famari McGee will
come in full of the Badgers replacing Blackwell or as
Johnson in for Ben humrick House.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
But I didn't mind that action. Again, it's that side
pick and roll. They had this short role. That's where
Nolan just guy has to play off two feet a
little bit better.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
Forty nine forty seven. The ALIGNI was sixteen to ten
remaining Yakachona's left side line of the front court against
Kamari McGee. Eva Sis ready to set a screen. Y'all
cochonas we'll use it, tosses the Boswell out front off
the Johnson screen. Boswell dribbles in the lane to the
rim and the lay up is good.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
And they started sidekicking mobile Boswells all the way up
to half court. And then he came down with a
full head of.
Speaker 1 (48:16):
Team four point lead Illinois and Eva sits with a
foul going over the back. They're in an entry pass
to Stephen Crowell and Eva Sich picks up his second
foul as we have a break in the action here
in Champagne. Badger Extra is the best website and mobile

Tanjay's Canson with nine turnovers. Likewise, Illinois Yaka Schonas for
(49:41):
three on the right side. Off the left side iron
no good and our foul called inside and again the
Badgers are unable to get a seal and you get
John Tanjay with a foul his first.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
And that's on John Johnson, Junie down there is a
lower is a load to you. Gotta make sure you
find bodies. And this is where John's gonna you know,
John Tanjay's got to understand it. You're not gonna get
that call the top in Big ten play, it's a
little bit more physical right.
Speaker 1 (50:10):
Now, Ian prowl are out morez Johnson gets the bounds pass,
feeds Yaka Shonas acting on Kamari McGhee Yackett Shonas left
lane line lost it got it bad now a scramble
for it. And it will roll out of bounds. It
will belong to Illinois with nine on the shot clock.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
Matt, that ball took a full second to roll out
of bounds and Nolan Winter had his hands up like
it came off his back, hands hands up, and it
was it just kept rolling and rolling and rolling in
slow motion.
Speaker 1 (50:39):
Yes, Yaka shonas baseline left in bounds to Riley. Riley
against Blackwell, moving in low on the left, goes up
this but a foul. It's on Blackwell and that's three
on John Blackwell.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
Now with as much contact on the other end that one.
If you're John, what else do you do? Right, your hands,
your chest, You did everything, Yes there was conch but
on the other end you got John Tanjay driving the
lane with a lot of contact on both sides though,
So that's a tough one, gives him, trying to say
a tough one for John Blackwall. He is you know
it's third file.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
There Will Riley at the free throw line and no
good with the first sixty seven percent.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
He is coming into the game.
Speaker 1 (51:17):
Jack Janicky will come in for Blackwell, who sits with
that third foul. Fifteen oh seven to play fifty one
forty seven of the oil. Will Riley with the second
free throw good. The freshman is freshman his debut game.
He had thirty one points against Eastern Illinois, Coy. How
easy is this? It's college basketball, top rated prospect from Canada.
(51:40):
What's the free throws? Fifty two to forty seventy line
I five minutes god second half, Kamari McGee puts it
in the knole in the wins hurt right block out.
The McGee feeds Carter Gilmore in there for the Badgers.
Now Klosba right hand ribble finds Winter, goes to Gilly
on the left side, sends it to Janicky rows up
with the circles to McGee with ten to shoot, McGee
kicks shooting a three. Winter around it out no good
(52:02):
whistle inside foul called on humrick House as he and
Carter Gilmore battling for the rebound. Humrick House the foul
his second and already six on Illinois with fourteen forty
five remaining.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
That's where Wisconsin just has to go. Only two free
throw attempts in that first half. They've got to find
a way to get to that free throw long and.
Speaker 1 (52:21):
Now it's past the Winter near the left corner throwing
the Max Klesman and a whistle. A foul is called.
Jeffrey Anderson on the call. They're gonna get Kyland Boswell.
That'll be his first and team foul number seven. So
with fourteen minutes and forty two seconds to play, the
(52:41):
Badgers are in the bonus. Illinois leads fifty two to
forty seven.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
That's that's that's huge.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
Yes, I mean it really is. Badger's average about twenty
three free throw attempts per game, but you mentioned just
a couple opportunity. He's there in the first half of
three for three in the game. Mash Kleesman gets a
one and one. The front end is no good. Winter,
the rebound knocked away, but absolutely and back to the
foul line goes Winter. That's team found number eight, as
(53:13):
Humriy Cows has now picked up his third foul Jake Davis.
Jake Davis coming in for Humrick howsssban a ninety percent
free throw shooter, missing the front end of the one
and one. Winter won of one at the line here tonight.
Ten points for Nolan, eight of those here. Early in
(53:34):
the second half, He's fifteen to nineteen for the foul line.
The front end is good for Nolan. He is one
more coming as the Badgers are within.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
Four, and I just think this is a game that
he can continue to get what he wants. I know
he's only one to five for three, but he's gonna
have those looks. Got twelve points right.
Speaker 1 (53:51):
Now in the night so a good free throw good
fifty two forty nine the Aliini fourteen thirty five remaining.
Yekshona is throwing to Boswell and the left. Boswell puts
it on the deck and left and lane a bump,
a play on, throws it up, No good, he got
his own rebound, throws it up and in Boswell with
two more fifty four to forty nine. Illinois fourteen to
(54:12):
twenty remaining. Gilmore throwing the Winter who says to Janicki
on the left side. Janicki took the look, feeds Gilmore
shot fake from three up top and now to McGee.
The game of the pass for Klesban covered up by
Yakachonas and Klesband A low pass too low for Nolan Winter.
It rolls to the left corner. Boswell picked it up
and then walk with the ball. He got bothered by Klesban,
(54:34):
so the Badgers get it right back off the Illinois
mistake fourteen oh five remaining fifty four to forty nine
be a line I then down as Max Klesban. We'll
throw it out to Kamari McGee and Dee feeds Carter
(54:55):
Gilmore throw it at Klesband with fifteen to shoot Plesbant
drives the lane up right hand too hard off the glass.
No good Boswell. The rebound for Lenois up the middle
of the front part is Colin Boswell Arizona transport. A
yak could shonas back out to Boswell right wing moving
in on McGee. Kick out, y'all could show us at
the top of the circle you're more digging in defensively
(55:18):
to pass inside the boswell out of Riley three in
the air left side halfway down, pop got y'all could
shown us the rebound low on the left back up
and in more second chance points for the ALIGNA fifty
six forty nine Illinois thirteen twenty five remaining pleasment at
the top of the circle throwing the noel in the
winter dreads Kamari McGhee off the right wing. McGee and
(55:40):
the lane. The float are too long, no good rebound
tip to the McGee lowering the right goes up, gets
fouled and fouled hard. Tomori McGee with a tough landing.
When the need a moment, he'll go to the free
throw line for Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
And Nolan Winter keeps that ball alive. Tamar is able
to get that with two hands. But that's the aggressiveness
that I want to see more of from Nolan. I
know I've talked a lot about it, yeah, but I
just I feel like he's brought some really good energy
to this game, created second chance opportunities. Offensively, he's scoring
the ball, but the area that he needs to improve
(56:14):
on is cleaning up the glass down there. Now, the
last couple offens rebounds have been from the guards. The
guards have to block out, They have to find a body.
Speaker 1 (56:25):
Lamari McGee missing the first free throw. You got prow
Amos and Blackwell coming in up four. Wisconsin, Winter, Gilmour
and Klesban come out.
Speaker 2 (56:40):
I think they might get some chickens. Yeah, a little
on the line here.
Speaker 1 (56:44):
McGee missed the first free throw and the seconds on
the way and he missed that. Nuggets for everybody. Brez
Johnson and the rebound and the Badgers really all starting
to scuffle at the fouline. Five out of eight best
free throw shooting team of the country coming into the
game with Lioi up seven thirteen minutes remaining, Yaka Shonas
(57:05):
dribbling right of the lane, steps through on crowd, so
it gets it to Davis back that Yakachonas trives a
three left corner. It's good. Yaka Shonas with fifteen to
ten point lead Illinois, the longest of the night for
the Alani and time out taken by Greg Guard.
Speaker 2 (57:22):
Is Illinois on a run.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
A seven point run and Greg Guard trying to turn
things around. This will be a full time out. US
Bank is a proud partner of Wisconsin Athletics. Together, There's
nothing as powerful as the power of US US Bank
Equal Housing lender member FDIC twelve forty three remaining Illinois
fifty nine, Wisconsin forty nine. This is Badger basketball from
(57:45):
lear Field force power to amplify your willpower, capability to
kick start your courage, their standard and built pod tough
four trucks and adventure ready Ford SUV's visit your Wisconsin
cot store today. A seven point run for real there's
the Illini leading Wisconsin fifty ninety nine, twelve minutes and
forty three seconds remaining mine though Illinois has nine fouls
(58:09):
to just two four Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
So you have to stay aggressive. You have to stay aggressive.
Speaker 1 (58:15):
JANICKI inbounding, it goes through Blackwell in the back court.
He'll retrieve it. There was no contact in the front
court from John and now the Badgers will start the offense,
so past the klebs, but he'll snap off at three.
It's off the rim, no good, and they'll get Crow
over the back trying to get the offensive rebound. And
that's three on Stevie.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
Brown.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
I had the thirteenth foul on Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (58:38):
And I'm fine with threes, understand it. That one. I
would have loved a little bit more action, a little
bit more flow. Continue to attack again. Illinois has nine
thous He just talked about being aggressive.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
Yeah, I get shown this throwing to Will Riley right
of the lane, stop by Coraw and to the ball,
your freshman, seeing big Stevie right there helping force that turnover.
Twelve twenty two remaining fifty nine to forty nine Illinois,
and there's John Blackwell out there with three fouls. He
has but four points taking just two shots so far.
(59:10):
Tonight the pass the week savior, Amus beats Klesman inside
feed the crowd. He got tied up and fouled by
Morez Johnson at the right blocks and now the Badgers
are in the double bonus. That's the second personal on
Mares Johnson. Team found number ten.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
And there's different ways of being aggressive, right, Like that's
just a screen to get the big into the post.
That's an aggressive cut.
Speaker 1 (59:36):
First free throw for Crow is good. He has eight
points in his first point of the second half.
Speaker 2 (59:40):
And especially when a team is on a run, especially
when a building's behind you, how do you stop that run?
Get to the free throw line? You cut hard to
force a whistle.
Speaker 1 (59:49):
Second free throw is good fifty nine fifty one Illinois.
So that stops at a line. I run. Badger's still
without a bucket coming up on four and a half
minutes twelve oh seven to play Shonas high on the left,
Jenicki defends Yakachonas can get screen from Johnson. What's a
pass to Gibbs lawhorn left side three? No good week
side rebound. Jake Davis his second chance here for Illinois
(01:00:11):
Davis for three on the left side. That's off the rim.
No good Johnson and tip, no rebound fought for, and
Xavier Amos finally comes up with it. For Wisconsin, there
is Jack Janicki throwing at Amos right side for Klesband
Max dribbles off the wing, feeds Cloud left the circle
three on the way and that's way off the march
short hairball out of bounds to Illinois. As we have
(01:00:34):
the under twelve media time out, the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation reminds you to always drive sober zero in Wisconsin.
Together we can save lives. Learn more than zero in Wisconsin.
Dot go eleven thirty six remaining Illinois fifty nine, Wisconsin
fifty one. This is Badger basketball from lear Field eleven minutes,
(01:00:57):
thirty six seconds remaining in Champagne only fifty nine, Wisconsin
fifty one. Thellinois football team recognized at the half Brett
Bean them, I got quite the war of.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
The crowd here at the State Farm.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
Said it was good to catch up with Brett for
a couple of minutes. Badgers, by the way, UH have
their new offensive coordinator, Jeff Grimes coming from Kansas. Mark
Towsier taking time out from counting its money because they
sat down sat down with coach about he did you.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Know, I presume there was a pickup ball game somewhere
calling his name.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
It's like five in the morning he played.
Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
It's like my work. I was five am to yeah,
we missed you.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
We missed you again in the fitness down there early,
oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
Before before I had to work. I got down there
five am, nice in early. It should have done. Every
equipment should have had a little bit of sweat on
it for you. That's all.
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
I didn't notice that you did. Illinois basketball up eight.
Here's Yakachonas with on the four ivasitz Yakachonas in the
lane around winter and flipped it in with the right hand.
Sixty one fifty one Illinois with eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
Twenty remaining, he said, eleven twenty remaining. John Blackwell has
two shots. He's two of two.
Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
There's Tanja off the right wing to the rim and
he'll lay it up and in sixty one fifty three
he'll little Oi eleven h five remaining. Yakachonas throwing the
Boswell off the evasitch screen on the left side, a
pass for Yakachonas at the top of the circle, hard
left hand ribble in the lane and tried to get
it out to Gibbs. Lawhorn deflected, but got there working
(01:02:37):
against Klesband in the paint up with the right hand
good Dray GRIBs dra Gibbs Lawhorn with his first bucket
sixty three fifty three of the only ten forty remaining.
Here's Plesband against Yaka schonas he's through the lane, Feeds
Tanja tries a three right corner and that popped out.
No good Ivas. It's the rebound gives law Horn on
(01:02:58):
the run, he'll turn it. Tows tries at three right
corner off the rim, no weak side rebound, Nolan Winter
and it goes to Blackwells Lolling's to the front court,
working up the middle, now left of the lane. Blackwell,
the tough bounce gets a Gilmore Feeds Winter open three
straight on and that's in and out. No good Blackwell.
The offensive rebound flipped it up and in Blackwell was
(01:03:19):
six sixty three fifty five ill On.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Now being aggressive means, you know, going to the offensive board.
But I'm like, at some point that drive go up
at score class.
Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
Sir ten minutes remaining. Badger's down eight yak had shonas
left lane line hits the brakes, sends the Boswell bounces,
Evasich dries with that right hand flip. No good, Nolan
Winter the rebound and now here's Blackwell through the center
circle of the front court for Wisconsin. Blackwell left of
the wheel the bounce for Gilmore at the left elbow.
Here's off the Klesmer Max he knock loose, got it back,
(01:03:51):
beats Gilmore.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
He'll throw it.
Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
The Winter high on the right, sends to Gilmore twelve
to shoot. Blackwell throws off the left wing, driving in
the paint to the room. Make powers it up and end.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Thank you John.
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
There he goes, churning up the assertiveness sixty three fifty
seven the Eliani nine eighteen remaining. Biswell off the evasige screen,
tries a three no rebound Gilmore Wisconsin, and here comes Blackwell,
left side of the front court for Wisconsin. Blackwell left
wing gives Walhorn defense to throw the Gilmour at the top.
(01:04:25):
Gilly and it said to the floor was pleasant. And
they're gonna get a foul called. Oh, they they're gonna
get Tanja.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
And they will huh okay, And I did see it
because there was about six bodies over there. Yeah, this
Pleas Max Pleasbant was the one that fell on the ground,
So I don't know where that was.
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
Nine oh three remaining, sixty three fifty seven Illinois. There's
Yakachonas to the front court, Yaka Shonas cutting in the
lane and he lost it as he went up. He
goes out of bounds to Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
There's still a run in this Wisconsin team right now.
Oh yeah, I mean there is.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
There's Klesband left side. Max fulps into the lane now
a feed inside. Tanjay goes up, got foul. We're cant
as send it down with authority. Tanjay, well go to
the free throw line, ivasich the foul. That's his third
and for the first time tonight John Tanjay, who averages
nearly nine free throw attempts per game, He'll get there
(01:05:34):
tonight for the first time, shooting six points tonight. Tanjay,
a ninety three percent free throw shooter, best in the country.
First attempt is straight through. I mean it's sixty three
p fifty eight Illinois with a forty five remaining, or
is Johnson coming in for Thomas lov Ivesich the orange crush,
(01:06:02):
chanting six more years.
Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
That's pretty good. That's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
Second free throw is good for John Tanjay, one of
any number of sixty year players in college basketball. And
you can get seven, you can get eight. That's quite
sure how that all works. Here's hungry Cows on the
left side. He'll feed Boswell. Badgers have pulled it within
four Boswell baseline left cuts to the lane, passing intended
for Johnson, knocked away by Winter, and no one to
(01:06:28):
the floor comes up with it. He'll get it ahead
to Max Pleasant up the right side line of the
front court for Wisconsin. Pleas good heads Winter at the
top turns of the black Well cuts off the left wing,
goes through the lane, feeds Max open three right side,
and that's over everything. Winter, you're trying to save cannot
out of bounds to the belonging to Illinois. Badger stayed
(01:06:48):
down four with eight thirteen remaining.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
And Max's feet weren't set on the initial catch. He
tried to get him down real quick, and as soon
as he had that hop it just looked like it
threw that whole shot off.
Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
And here comes Jakachonas Illinois. You know a scoring drought
approaching three minutes. Yakazonas against Klesba to throw to Johnson
left side. Eight minutes to play. Badger's down four. Yakachonas
goes cross court clear looking at the three byes Well
that clipped the rim. No good rebound. John Blackwell for
Wisconsin sixty three fifty nine the Alni Blackwell against Jakachonas,
(01:07:23):
throwing the Winter top of the circle. Winter with a
flip for Gilmore right of the wheel. He'll get it
to Blackwell. Blackwell left handed, lid of the free throw line.
Now it's Gilmore. It took a look, turned it down,
feeds backs tend to shoot. Well has drives of the
gold lay up, no rebound. Tray White of Illinois, another
empty possession for Wisconsin. White on the push for the
ALIGNI against Gilmour drives in the lane, goes, I've got
(01:07:46):
foul Gilmore and Winter we're there. We'll have the under
eight media time out. They'll get caughtter Gilmore with his
second foul and they have a break in the action. Well,
the Badges have battled back into it. Now down by
just four seven minutes in twenty four seconds to play.
Illinoly's sixty three Wisconsin fifty nine. This is Badger basketball
from lear Field. The Badgers not long ago trailed by ten.
(01:08:10):
They scored the last six points. We have seven twenty
four to play. Sixty three fifty nine Illinois leading Wisconsin
Trey Whites, who will go to the free throw line.
He was fouled by Carter Gilmore going into that media
time out. Second foul on Gilly the fifth on Wisconsin.
White with fourteen points all in the first half, six
(01:08:31):
seven junior out of Dallas, transfer from Louisville. First free
throw is too long, no good for Louisville last year
he averaged twelve points a game, had six rebounds. Second
free throw coming up for White. He missed the first
(01:08:51):
as the rim. Second free throw is good, so it
was split for White, sixty four to fifty nine. In
the A line on Gilmore, Blackwell, tons, Klesman and Crow
the five of the flour for Wisconsin. Blackwell sets the offense,
throwing the Crow, hands it back to Blackwell. Blackwell left
elbow out to Stevie, took a look, turned it down,
(01:09:13):
holds gets at the Gilmour lips at the Blackwell baseline left,
probes John in the lane, turn shoots, missed rebound, Humry Cowson,
Crow tie each other up arrow Illinois. So all the
Badgers have gone cold here from the field. No bucket
(01:09:33):
over the last two and a half minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
Well that's where you can see, I mean Illinois. No
field goals over the last four almost right like defensively,
it's tightened up.
Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Yakaconas outside right gets a screen from Johnson. Yackacona's left
elbow cut off by Crow a throw. The Whites. White
try to back down on Blackwell in the lane off
balance up miss, but they'll get Blackwell for the foul.
And that's four on John Blackwell with six forty two
remaining sixty four forty nine Illinois, and Kamari McGee will
(01:10:06):
come back in four of the Badgers shoot shoot in
the meantime, Trey White back at the line.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
And he did. He baited John Blackwell into that threat
into that foul.
Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
First free throw is good for White. As McGee comes
in for Blackwell, now six point lead.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
Illinois, you know, faced up, little shot fake and then
kind of leaned into him and then went to go
shoot and go through the body and there there wasn't
enough contact for a foul call there, but I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:10:40):
Second free throw is good. Illinois gets the lead back
to seven sixty six fifty nine with six forty remaining.
Lamari McGee up the floor for Wisconsin. It's a screen
from kraw a throat at Gilmore left of the circle
as to go inside, bounces at the crowd against Johnson
left of the lane. Backing is Stevie backing snow backing
which the Gilmore fakes. The three picks the Klesman left
(01:11:02):
of the circle tend to shoot. Max drives the paint
up in traffic halfway down, popped out by a foul.
Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
How many of those have you had to it?
Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
It feels like a walk.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Mean, there's been at least three of them in his
last two minute chunk of time. Here, John Tanja with
the three, you had, Nolan Winter with a three that
rolled in and out, and then now you've got this
when that rolled.
Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
In it out Island Boswell with his second foul. Max
Klesband will shoot two. Max with seven points tonight oh
of one at the free throw line, with twenty eight
to thirty two from the line so far this season.
First free throw for Max or round it out? No good? Yeah,
it is a meat on the bone.
Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
I was just gonna say you without saying that. You
said it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:47):
Wisconsin nine out of thirteen at the foul line. Here,
second free throw for Klesband is good. Sixty six sixty
Illinois six point twenty to play. Yakachonas will bring it up.
He has seventeen points for the Alani tonight and.
Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
It's still only a six point game.
Speaker 1 (01:12:05):
Yeah, Yackaconas, left hand ribble, left foul line, extended retreats
over the three point line. He and Humbery cows play cats. Now,
Yacachonas are three, it's good and one. Now we saw
a couple of those in the Marquette game. And we
see a four point opportunity here as Max Plesman has
just picked up his third found.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
Now we saw one of those last time by Max. Yes,
against Marquette. You can't file the jump shooters. There's just
there's some that you just cannot have.
Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Racachonas with twenty points in the game, Winter in fow
sits down.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
And whether that's because you're late because of a lack
of communication, a lack of talk, a lack of whatever
it is. But if you're late, you're late. You can't
make it worse.
Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
Big four point play there, seventy to sixty Illinois is
Yaka Chan has hit the free throw and the Badgers
find themselves down double digits again. Plas but outside left,
puts it on the deck, drs to the line, to
the lane and he is sent to the floor hard
and he felt that remissing a bit. Kyland Boswell called
for his third foul. He's Max gingerly walking it off here.
(01:13:27):
He'll gather himself and shoot a couple of free throws.
With six minutes to play, and Illinois leads seventy to sixty.
Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Max Klem had the line for the Badgers.
Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
Both Rob Riley and Jeffrey Anderson over there to check
on Max. It's like a home plate umpire. Uh, the
brush out to the plate, you know, Oh, brush up
to the plate. Talking to the fans. They're talking to
fans and say zipping free throw for Max is good.
One more coming tell us Ivasitch coming in for morez Johnson.
(01:14:07):
Second free throw coming up for Klesban Nine points for
Max here tonight, seventy to sixty one, Illinois, six minutes
to play, second free throw with a senior out of Nina,
Wisconsin straight through seventy to sixty two Illinois, six minutes
(01:14:30):
to play in Champagne, Yakkachonas up the floor for the
Alani whips it right handed, Ivasitch back out the Yakachonas
between the Yarks, hooks it past Ivasich and Yakachona's play
catch Yakachona's outside right. Evasi's trying to get the post
on McGee. Good Luckkamari. Here's three White isolating on Gilmour
backing with ten to shoes up. No good rebound Gilmour.
(01:14:52):
Good defense from Gilli. And here it comes Klesman up
the right side line of the front court or Wisconsin
gouples off the right wing, stops in the lane, Pivots
goes up and and it's off the rim. No good
even it's the rebound. Five twenty five to play. Badger's
still down by eights. Yakachonas, with twenty one points to night,
has the basketball on the right with the Yakachonas top
(01:15:14):
of the circle. Winter defending Yaka shown us a step
back three little heat check. No good Tanjay the rebound
for Wisconsin five zero five to play. Badger's down eight
and here's John Tanja trying to go to work. Left
of the lane stops lowing the left shot blocked from
behind by Trey White. Out of down to the belong
to Wisconsin as Jack Janicki, we'll check in for Max Klesban.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
John Tanji did a good job. He played off with
two feet shot fake. Now Trey Young or Trey White,
excuse me, was the one to come with the backside
help there. But other other than that, like better job
in the paint there.
Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
Kamari McGee baseline left the inbound four fifty eight to
play a little in lead seventy to sixty two, and
Kamari can't find anybody open and they have to burn
and time out. So the Badgers will have but one time.
I'm out remaining thirty second time out taken there with
four point fifty eight to play seventy to sixty two.
(01:16:08):
The Illinois just a mix up there in the inbound
pass break guard doing some barking at his guys.
Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
Right, he should have, Yep, he should have. You're putting
the moment, whatever it is, you got to execute. Yep,
you got to execute the moment. Can't be too big.
I mean, you're sitting here. It's an eight point game.
There's four fifty eight luck in this game. You chip
away here and they can there's still a sitting earlier,
(01:16:37):
there's still a run. Like Illinois is a great defensive team.
You're gonna be able to get some stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:16:44):
Badger's just eight of twenty three here for the field
in the second half, one of eight from three they
got in the bonus earwing in the second halfter. Ten
to fourteen at the line for the half, twelve to
sixteen for the game.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
You can only shoot twenty seven percent from right. Still,
you make a couple of threes, But right now, just
execute the inadline out of bounce.
Speaker 1 (01:17:08):
Don Jay and White doing a little jostling.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
White's been talking ever since again, Black mows fourth. You
could just see it. That's why I didn't love that
foul call, because they baited John into.
Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
It McGee and bounced past the Tanjay working on Whites
right in the lane. Tanjay can't get loose. Those are
out the Gilmour in a nice catches. Carter had to
go up and get it. Gillmore outside left feeds Kamari
McGee off of gilmour screen. Comori drives the lane, pushed
it up and then off the window. First points for
McGee's seventy to sixty four Illinois four thirty eight remaining.
(01:17:41):
Here's Yaka shonas right hand toss evasitch back to Yaka
Shona's being chased by McGee. I throw the bozewell at
the top of the circle, rotates the white baseline right
to the rim, goes up, missed, but a foul, I
mean they're a little tardy, was Carter Gilmore. And that'll
be three on Gillia Carbiore in free throw coming up
for Illinois eighteen found number eight on Wisconsin. Trey White
(01:18:05):
been spending some time at the foul sure has Illois
five of six to nights.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
He's only been there fourteen times on the year, and.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
He's having himself a night. A former Louisville car cardinal
beg your pardon for his free throw is good. Seventy
one sixty four Illinois career nights for Trey White as
(01:18:37):
he hits both free throws, all career highs in ALINAI
the twenty nine in the game against Clemson in a
Louisville uniform in January seventy two sixty four, Illinois four
fifteen to play. Tonjay tries a three and he buries
it from right of the circle.
Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
You're still sitting here at a five point.
Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
Game seventy two sixty seven, Illinois, four h five remaining
Yaka Schonas off the Evasi screen or throw out the evasitch.
He'll try a three out of the circle. Bangs off
the rim. No good rebound tipped into the hands of Gilmore.
Out Let Jack Janicki up the right sideline of the
front court for Wisconsin. You know, Richard Freshman throwing to
Gilmour between the circles. Carter picked up the dribble. Need
(01:19:18):
some help, finds Winter right of the wheel, bowling a
couple of dribbles on the right side. Evasich de fense
a hand off the Tanjay that's off the right wing
to the elbow. Ten to shoot a pass for Winter
against EVAs. It's five to shoot baseline jumper Winter off
the rim. No good rebound. Gilmore took it away from
humrick House. Oh, big time work by Carter. Gilmore three
(01:19:40):
twenty five to play.
Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
And this possessed John Tanja has to have the ball
with the balls.
Speaker 1 (01:19:44):
Janicki on the left side takes it to the top,
feeds Gilmore High on the right to flip to McGee
come ari right of the lane, four to shoot, three
to shoot, a feed of Tanjay Low on the left
up in traff Fick knocked away shot clock violation and
tan Jay got it in his hands, but in a
bad spot. Not much he could do there. As we
(01:20:05):
have a break in the action. Three minutes eight seconds
to play, the Badgers are battling, taking this down to
the end three to zero eight remaining Illinois's seventy two
Wisconsin sixty seven. This is Badger basketball from lear Field.
I'm trying to pick tonight's Old Divinion's best in the game,
brought to you by Old Divinion freight Line, Old Dimnion freightline.
Where he's hard to be the best in the game.
(01:20:26):
It is proud to be the official freight carrier of
Wisconsin Athletics. Carter Gilmour to seven points, four rebounds. That
only tells you a part of the story is he
just continues. You hear that line, Starr in your role
and he is he just it's my teammates love him.
He just he does a lot of gritty stuff. There's
really helping stabilize things here tonight for wisconcert Well, Yeah,
(01:20:48):
and you look.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
At the early foul trouble in that back part of
that first half. He was in there and he scored
seven points there. Found ways just to kind of keep
this team involved and engaged in it now because that
you're sitting at only a five point devastate with three
on eight to play like you're in this game. You've
you've got it right in front of you for you
to take. It's gonna have to be some defensive stops
(01:21:11):
and an offensive execution. You're gonna have to have it
on this end. But you've got John Tanji, John Blackwell,
maclusban All on the floor.
Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
With three minutes left, Yahkaconas will slow jogg into the
front court for Illinois high screen ivasitch. Yahkachonas drives a
Laane Fe's Eva Chi rowing the left slam dunk either
Sich big bucket there for Illinois's seventy four to sixty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
The line on that's that middle pick and roll which
they're gonna go to.
Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
And there's Gilmore throwing a club with at the top
of screen from Winter Max webbing the lane out the
Nolan clean look at a three straight on straight in
for Nolan Winter Badgers within four two forty to play.
Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
That's part of being more aggressive. I just I've loved
what Nolan has done this game.
Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
Seventy four to seventy Illinois, two thirty two remaining. Yakachona's
the screen from evasit yacka shonas right lane line one pump,
two pumps, fades, flips off the left side eye are
no good Eva Si the offensive rebound back up, no
tech dout trade White Man the time I'm taken by
Brad Underwood with to twenty one to play or second
(01:22:12):
chance points here for the Aliini. It seems like it's
worse than it is. Fourteen to eleven, but that was
a timely put back dunk from White seventy six seventy
Illinois with two twenty one to play.
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
The first half it was bad. There's just no ifs handser.
But the first half it was bad. Now the second
half it's been the.
Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
Timing of Yeah, Gray White with nineteen points in this games.
Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
Into our house, unleash the it should be luck.
Speaker 1 (01:22:55):
It's sixteen to eleven. Probably in the second chance points here.
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Yeah, but you look, it's the timing of that, so
you give up the offensive rebound. It's still a six
point game offensively. You know Brett Underwood calls that time out.
But what does allow It allows Greg Bard to draw
up a play here, which with two twenty. Once you
saw that Michigan game didn't necessarily end that game the
right way offensively, this is a bonus for Wisconsin have
(01:23:20):
a draw.
Speaker 1 (01:23:20):
Playing up here by Greg Gregg, still last one time
out of their little two fifteen to play. Here's Blackwell
the front court, Badgers down six seventy six to seventy.
Blackwell up the Winter screen. Blackwell had it knocked away,
got it back, almost through it away. Yakachonas unable to
save Wisconsin ball fifteen to shoot two oh six, remaining
seventy six to seventy Illinois and.
Speaker 2 (01:23:40):
Wisconsin ran in white for action there, Illinois switched to everything.
That's where Nolan Winter could have just slipped and had
a layup. But again you just got to play a
little bit more.
Speaker 1 (01:23:47):
Retail Ton Jay sideline ride and bounds to Blackwell. White
defending Blackwell outside right takes the dribble right of the lane,
cuts through the paint light to left each Klesman tough
three left corner and that's off the mark.
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
Good.
Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
We'll winter the offensive rebound out the Blackwell for three
straight on bangs off the rim, no rebound. Yakachonas of
Illinois with one forty seven to play, seventy six to
seventy the A line on it was Boswell out between
the circles. I just played for the stop here bobbing
off the high screen from EVAs. Boswell bobbled it, got
(01:24:21):
it back left wing, rose it back to Yakachonas. Shot
clock at ten one thirty to play. Yakachonas back out
the Boswell kicks to Yakachonas open three right side, halfway
down out. No good foul called here. Against Wisconsin, they
get Carter Gilmour with his fourth and the team's ninth,
(01:24:44):
with a minute twenty three remaining, Yakachonas and stepping to
the free throw line for three.
Speaker 2 (01:24:58):
You do everything. It's a des out offensive ref. You
do it all right, except you didn't end with the.
Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
To someone who is an eighty seven percent free throw shooter.
First free throw, Yah could show us.
Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
Is good and that's two times that you file the
jump shows yeah, in a critical situation.
Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
And now with a minute twenty three left, you're down
seven second free throw good. They're down eight seventy eight
to seventy Illinois, one minute and twenty three seconds remaining. Well,
ya could show us every bit as advertised. There's no question,
and he makes all three seventy nine or seventy the Alini,
(01:25:42):
one twenty three remaining, there's black Well full Wisconsin, left
side of the front court. They'll drive it left of
the lane to the rim up missed, but a foul.
Blackwell will shoot two. With a minute sixteen remaining, they
get Evasitch. That's his fourth four one sixteen remaining, seventy
(01:26:02):
nine to seventy the Aliini Camari McGee set to re
enter for Wisconsin. The first Blackwell will get his two
free throws. Eight points for Blackwell Tonight four rebounds. First
free throw will bounce in for John and now McGhee
will come in for Winter as Greg guard looking for
(01:26:24):
speed and defense. Ears he can create a turnover, So.
Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
You're gonna look for initial right after the mad free
for here you look for maybe a quick trap and
then you're gonna have to fil that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:36):
Order, second free throw around and out. Trey White gets
the rebound for Illinois. Now Boswell in the back court,
checked by Klesmand want to wait to play. Boswell breaks
the mid stright and Illinois perfectly willing to bleed the
clock here And.
Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
Now you're not gonna know because there's ten of the clay.
Speaker 1 (01:26:54):
As well blasting into the lane. Loston got it back
low on the right and then trying to get the
tie up was Blackwell. They get a foul called, they'll
get Kamary mcguse.
Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
No, it's not can't it was nowhere near it. The
foul can't be on four. Kamari McGee's nowhere around.
Speaker 1 (01:27:21):
Wow, all right, shoot, well that's his first and Kamari
looking for a little explanation there from Ryan Dorsey, Kyland
Boswell at the free Brolin, it's the first injuring for
the benchers. They may have if they were going to
(01:27:43):
call the fouther it's gonna have to be a Blackwell
entering for the And I thought Dorsey the official was
clarifying that over at the scorer's table. But anyway, it's
eighty to seventy one Illinois Blackwell. That would be his
fifth if it's on him correct, but he's still out
there correct, So the whole lot of whatever. Second free
(01:28:08):
throw for Bodswell is good. Ten point lead Illinois, eighty
one seventy one, fifty five seconds to play. Here comes
McGee four Wisconsin. Imori on the hard right hand ribble,
light of the lane. Ivasitch cut him off a throw.
The Klusman could test a three, got it right corner
in one as the badger's still alive. It's eighty one
(01:28:28):
seventy four Illinois. They get yakachonas with the foul his
second Gilmore in for winter. Janikki will be checking back in.
Speaker 2 (01:28:39):
Now you've seen the subject and right now you get
make the pre throw a quick trap drake and the steel.
Then that leads to the foul. Extend the game.
Speaker 1 (01:28:49):
Eighty one seventy four Illinois, forty seven point one seconds
to play. Klesman to the free throw line. Here's three
or five tonight rethrow for Max as the eyes the rent.
It's on the way too long ago, good rebound, Blackwell
lowing the way pushed it up. No, but a foul.
(01:29:10):
Blackwell to the line for two forty five point six
seconds to play. Trey White picks up his fourth foul.
It remains a seven point lead for Illinois. Again, that
confusion on the foul is buying Blackwell extra time. He's
(01:29:31):
at the free throw line. He shoots two and he
is short with the first thirteen of nineteen. Now are
the Badgers at the foul line. Eighty one seventy four
Illinois forty five point six seconds remaining, second free throw
coming up for John Blackwell on the way and it's good.
(01:29:55):
Eighty one seventy five Illinois Badgers will put the press on.
Now White will then bound you. Vicky in his face,
white looking and Yaka Schon is trying to trap him
in a the ear turnover. White with a nice catch
going cross court right to let the Boswell breaking the
mid stripe to humrickk hows he gets fouled by Blackwell.
That much you can do there. That will be his fifth.
It's probably his sixth six, but official his fifth. He'll
(01:30:18):
foul out with thirty seven point three seconds remaining. Ten
point night for John Blackwell, Ton Jay and Winter ready
to come back in for Wisconsin. Ben humrickows, who is
five of eight this season at the.
Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
Free throw line.
Speaker 1 (01:30:40):
He shoots two, three, points in the game for him,
the transfer from Evansville good Year for the Aces last year,
about fifteen points a game, three years of nai A
ball for his free throw. No good, Badger's still alive.
Maybe one seventy five Illinois, thirty seven point thirty seconds
(01:31:02):
to play.
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
When you don't get there a lot and you're putting
this moment there a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:31:06):
Tougher second free throw the sixt' nine grad transfer, and
that's good and now gives Walhorn. We'll come in for
a HUMRICKUS eighty two to seventy five Illinois, thirty seven
point three seconds remaining. It's Tonjay. We'll throw it in
bounds to Kamari McGee and he'll bring it up the
(01:31:26):
floor in a hurry, left side of the front court
igh screen Winters McGee, those are the Tanjay. He'll take
the three and he'll hit the three. Time out Greg Guard.
That's the last one left for Wisconsin. Eighty two seventy
eight Illinois with twenty eight point six seconds to play.
Speaker 2 (01:31:42):
Because this team is just final ways to keep.
Speaker 1 (01:31:47):
Battle stay in there, don't they. Let's absolutely let's pause
ten seconds for station identification ten for an ID. This
is Badger basketball from lear Field, and we'll see if
the Badgers can get a turnover here twenty eight point
six seconds from remaining Illinois eighty two, Wisconsin seventy eights.
Speaker 2 (01:32:06):
Again, you keep trying to extend this game. Everything you
needed to do. You've got a couple of misfree throws,
You've gotten some extra offense, the rebounds, got yourself to
the free throw line. Yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
You have the difference right now, if you're looking in
the most general sense. Wisconsin is fourteen of twenty one
at the foul line, Illinois eighteen of twenty one, both
teams twenty seven buckets, both teams ten may threes. It's
counts a little office form at the foul line here tonight.
The best free throw shooting team in the country, coming
in at eighty five and a half percent, were making
(01:32:40):
just two thirds of his twenty one attempts here tonight.
Illinois turned it over thirteen times tonight, Badgers need a
couple of more here. Twenty eight point six seconds remaining
eighty two seventy eight the A line on faded Gilmore
out there for Wisconsin. He has four fouls out there
(01:33:01):
with tan Jay Klesman, Jamari McGee and Jack Janicki. It's Boswell,
humriy Cows, Whites, Yakachonas and Evasich the five of the four.
They'll go into football formation here as they'll line up
along the baseline. Inbounding will be the court to the quarterback,
Kylon Boswell. As they break into their patterns, Boswell looking
and looking, and a time out taken by Brad Underwood.
(01:33:25):
So the Badger's secondary had it well covered. Twenty eight
point six seconds remaining. Underwood using a timeout. There's Illinois
will rewrap.
Speaker 2 (01:33:34):
Watch out coach guard coach, coach figure might be looking.
He might be looking for for a nice little quarterback.
I've deliverered it pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:33:45):
Well, did Yeah, still a couple of timeouts left for Illinois,
and this is where it is should.
Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
Be this one time out left for Illinois. By the way,
this is where it's same situation of just understanding, okay,
try to get a quick one foul extent.
Speaker 1 (01:34:08):
The Badgers team has battled, was trailed by as many
as ten, including not long ago at eighty one seventy one,
but the Badger's making a push twenty eight point six
seconds to play a little eighty two Wisconsin, seventy eight.
Speaker 2 (01:34:26):
Even if you can foul Boswell, who's a sixty percent shooter. Yeah,
I know he's inbound as a ball right now, but
shuffling to.
Speaker 1 (01:34:33):
His left end of Trey White trying to get him
trapped in the corner. He hooked him. Oh the officials
talking about it.
Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
He should he hooked.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
Oh man, they're gonna get Gilmore. That's gonna be his fifth. Yeah,
the Badgers wanted the offensive foul there. They're gonna call
him in the cylinders as Jeffrey Anderson and the Wisconsin
coaches are not pleased at the line Forklinois Trey White.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Will's gonna say cylinder, But there was the hook down.
It's tough.
Speaker 1 (01:35:13):
Twenty five points seven seconds to play. Eighty two seventy
eight Illinois. It's Trey White with twenty one points Tonight,
goes to the free throw line. He shoots two, and
the first free throw is good.
Speaker 2 (01:35:29):
Horn.
Speaker 1 (01:35:30):
Drey gives Lawhorn coming in for Humrick House Lawhorn the
six to one soft wall. Eighty three seventy eight Illinois,
twenty five point seven seconds to play. Badgers are out
of timeouts. Second free throw coming up for White on
the way and that's good. Eighty four seventy eight Illinois.
(01:35:50):
Ton Jay will inbound to Kamari McGee brings it up
twenty five seconds to play the gey front port out
between the circles and will stop it go. He'll drive
to the bucket. Layup is good. Eighty four to eighty Illinois.
With nineteen point two seconds to play, Gibbs Lowhorne will
throw it in presses on the bounce past the Boswell.
They try to get him double team, but the foul
(01:36:11):
is called a Kamari McGee Island Boswell, who tonight at
the foul line has been good at five for five.
He came in sixty one percent eighty four to eighty Illinois,
seventeen point nine seconds remaining, And.
Speaker 2 (01:36:27):
That's where you play the percentages of the year. But
that's exactly what Wisconsin need to do. A quick layup.
You keep extending this game. It's a four point game.
Still like you can you can play this game for
a little bit longer.
Speaker 1 (01:36:40):
Boswell was seventeen points, six assists. First free throw is
good eighty five to eighty Illinois. I mean line, I
came in a seventy percent team at the foul line.
Much better than that. Tonight, twenty one out of twenty
four second free throw coming up with a six to
two junior from Champagne. The transfer from Arizona scored nine
(01:37:01):
and a half a game for the Wildcats. Last year's
second free throw is good and they're ceiling it at
the foul line. Here eighty six eighty Illinois, seventeen seconds left.
Here's McGee rides quickly to the front court to the line,
down the lane, to the rim, lay up, No tipped
up winter, no readount out the McGee nine seconds left.
Now tonj was seven seconds TONJ for three right side.
(01:37:22):
That's too long. No good redound gives law Horn. He'll
dribble out the clock and Illinois will win the game
by six. Well, quite a battle here in Champagne. Good
Illinois just too good at the free throw line as
the Badgers fall to zero to two and big ten
(01:37:43):
play and the losing streak is now at three.
Speaker 2 (01:37:47):
And you look at this game overall I thought was
contents and things better defensively. Still, the offensive rebound in
the first half is where I think the biggest part
of this game happened. And then you had some early
turnovers in the first half that hurts you, but a
really good fight again and some things they still need
to figure out. You know, John Blackwell getting involved earlier
in the game. With thirty minutes gone in the game,
(01:38:09):
John Blackwell has only taking two shots. Yeah, right, Like
those are the things that Wisconsin has to work through.
Speaker 1 (01:38:16):
And there's the Badgers now fall to eight to three
on the season. You're ready for another non conference game
coming up Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis against Butler. Final score
tonight Illinois eighty six, Wisconsin eighty. We're back with the
Wisconsin ford Dealers post game showing a couple of minutes.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field. The Illinois goes
(01:38:37):
twenty two of twenty five at the free throw line
tonight Badgers with one more made bucket. Both teams hit
ten threes, Illinois twenty two at twenty five of the
fat line, Wisconsin fourteen of twenty one and maybe oversimplifying,
but credit to Illinois some clutch free throws. They're down
the stretch. Ya Kachonas has advertised twenty four points. He
(01:39:00):
had six rebounds, five assists. Trey White, big story for
Illinois tonight came in averaging seven a game. He had
twenty three tonight fourteen in the first half, he had
eight rebounds, went nine to ten at the at the
foul line, and Colin Boswell with nineteen points. The fight
was there for Wisconsin, just not quite enough to get
over the top.
Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
Yeah, And I think when you talked about where when
South the fight was there, yep, but they lost it
in that first half. Offensive rebounds, yep, turnovers and you
were sitting there with a four point lead. You could
have had a four point lead. It felt like you
should probably been about ten to eleven. All of a sudden,
you give yourself a ten to eleven point lead. Now
(01:39:42):
you've got a little bit of a wiggle room. They
make a run, they make a run to tie it
versus you know, to go up seven in the second half.
Different game. Yeah, that is because I thought defensively they
were much better.
Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
Yeah, which is in an eighty six to eighty game.
But you're right, you know it just that they were
getting those second chances and making the most of them
in the first half.
Speaker 2 (01:40:02):
And when I say defensively, more of of packing the
lane but still closing out to shooters. So you didn't
see that in Marquette no, you had that. Offensively, they
were better when they played Marquette. They were better again tonight,
So you didn't see that what you saw against Michigan.
So even though it's a three game losing streak, you've
(01:40:23):
you've seen growth from the Michigan game. Now you've seen
growth from the Marquette game. Now you've got to put
it together for the full forty.
Speaker 1 (01:40:32):
Yeah, the tough part is you have to sit on
an oh and two big ten record here. The next
league game is January third. But the good news is
you play twenty of these in conference plays, so they've
got all kinds of time. The first things first Saturday
against Butler and then they got Detroit Mercy on the
twentieson's undefeated.
Speaker 2 (01:40:51):
So this league is fine. I mean, this league is
gonna be crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:40:55):
They've got they've got a formula here to to build on,
which I know in a six point or six point
setback on the road could be a little bit of
a tough pill to swallow for Badger fans, but they're
they're still right there here. The three losses that they've
had two were either or games Michigan and tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:41:14):
You're seeing gross, you are seeing growth, like you are
seeing improvement. I'm not just saying it because we're here
covering the game, but there is improvement happening all right.
Speaker 1 (01:41:23):
Illinois wins it tonight eighty six to eighty. More of
our Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame shows coming up with Butcher's breakdown.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field. Our logo Wisconsin
Ford Dealers postgame show continues. Is Illinois defeats Wisconsin tonight
eighty six to eighty.
Speaker 2 (01:41:43):
Time. I let Brian Butch break this one down.
Speaker 1 (01:41:45):
What you got.
Speaker 2 (01:41:46):
I think we're gonna talk about the positives. First, you
look at Nolan Winter. I said he needed to be
more aggressive. That's exactly what he he was tonight, fifteen
point seven rebounds. I thought he was brought the energy.
I thought he brought floor space because he was able
to hit a cup pull of threes. Now only two
to seven, but just the ability to shoot the basketball
from three gives some this team some more space overall.
(01:42:08):
That's kind of the positive. Also, the bench nineteen bench points.
That was really good. I thought Carter Gilmore came in
gave a nice shot of energy. Let's just talk about
the rest of it a little bit. Real quick, you know,
and it comes down to the turnover side of it,
only twelve. But again that first half when they really
got out of you know, our sorts a little bit
that hurt them. And then offensive rebounds, you know, I
(01:42:31):
know this is a team that's you know in Illinois
that you know gets about fourteen thirteen point four offense
rebounds a game. They give up fifteen, and I think
that's a good time exactly right like it was and
then timely, so you look at that. That's why the
result is a six point loss, and you know, you
clean some things up, you get some more production. Stephen
(01:42:52):
Cralton needs to play, you know, only played nineteen minutes,
no rebounds, only nine points. Those are the games in
moments like this where you need to rebound the ball
at a little bit better of a level.
Speaker 1 (01:43:04):
Yeah. Illinois winner tonight, eighty six to eighty. When we continue,
we'll take a look at the Nissan out of Town
scoreboard as our postgame coverage continues. This is Badger basketball
from lear Field. Illinois defeats Wisconsin tonight eighty six to eighty.
As we checked the Nissan out of Town scoreboard earlier tonight,
(01:43:26):
it was Rutgers eighty Penn State seventy six. They're in
the final seconds of the Jimmy V Classic game and
Arkansas leeds Michigan eighty nine to eighty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
Three.
Speaker 1 (01:43:39):
Michigan was a big in that game, and that is
now gone. Final check that eighty nine eighty seven. Arkansas
ends up winning that game on the strength of a
well they were down four at the half and then
came back to win it late. So that's the first
loss of the season, right for or make that the
second I lost the beggar pardon for Michigan in Arkansas.
(01:44:01):
With John Calipari and company now improving to eight and two,
Illinois wins it tonight, so the aline I one up,
one down in Big Ten play, seven and two overall.
The Badgers drop to zero to two in league play.
They are eight and three overall as Illinois wins it
here tonight, eighty six to eighty. We'll take a break.
(01:44:21):
Coming up more of our Wisconsin forty Dealers postgame show
back in three minutes. This is Badger Basketball from lear Field.
Speaker 2 (01:44:32):
O.
Speaker 1 (01:44:32):
Wisconsin forty Dealers postgame show continues as Illinois defeats the
Badgers tonight eighty six to eighty. The Allini forty two
percent from the field, ten of thirty three from deep,
twenty two of twenty five at the foul line. Badgers
end up forty four percent for the field, ten of
twenty nine from deep and fourteen of twenty one at
(01:44:54):
the free throw line. Caspers Yakachanas leading the way with
a twenty five four points, Trey White twenty three points
and eight rebounds in the game, kyl And Boswell with nineteen.
Thomas love Ivasich ends up with nine points and eleven boards,
five tonight for Will Riley, four for Ben Humrickhouse and
two for Dre Gibbs. Lawhorn Badgers with four in double figures.
(01:45:18):
Nolan Winter with a big second half he had ended
up with fifteen points thirteen after halftime. John Ton Jay
ends up with fourteen, Max Klesband thirteen, John Blackwell with
ten before he filed out. Stephen Crow ends up with nine.
Carter Gilmour was seven in the first half, Xavier Amos
with five, four for Kamari McGee and three points for
(01:45:43):
Jack Janicki. As the Badgers will get the late return
into Madison and then get themselves ready for a Saturday
matchup with Butler. Butler losing tonight to North Dakota State,
but still you know they'll keep missip State. They won
the Arizona tip off, beat Northwestern beating Northwestern, so it's
(01:46:04):
a it's another quality opponent all in this, uh you
know this four game absolutely, yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (01:46:11):
We're stalling for time.
Speaker 1 (01:46:12):
Greg Guard will be making is making his way over
here as he visits with Illinois Athletics director Josh Whitman
over there, so he'll be joining us here in a minute.
But again, you know, things to build on and we'll
talk to Greg about that. Obviously, things to correct as well.
But but that's what three and fifty other coaches in
D one are saying, right.
Speaker 2 (01:46:33):
I Mean, I've said this before, we talked about it
a lot, but I think this is one of the
most talented teams in as far as Illinois is in
the Big ten. Right now, Yeah, can you come together well?
And point guard plays a big part of that, you know, Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:46:46):
Absolutely all right, Coach Guard making his way over as
we'll visit with the Badger's head coach here is they'll
get ready for the Butler Bulldogs coming up on Saturday
afternoon down at the home of the Indiana Pacers' coach
guard is with us. Now we're saying, well, never, we
never questioned the fights, and you guys look like it
could have been really gone off the rails when down
(01:47:06):
ten and then all of a sudden it gets down
to down to four. Credit to those guys, they made
their free throws at the end. But you guys, at
least you gave yourself a chance there in the in
the final few minutes we did.
Speaker 3 (01:47:18):
Matt, we're just too we're too inconsistent in uh quite frankly,
both ends of the floor.
Speaker 4 (01:47:24):
At times.
Speaker 3 (01:47:25):
I thought we were better at times than we were Saturday,
and then we would, you know, and that's a good
team that you know, it's a unique guard. The point
guard is terrific, the big kid. I thought we did
a pretty good job on a visage, maybe the best
anybody's done all year. But then they had other guys.
You know, you have Boswell as a senior and White's
a senior. Step up and make some plays and make
(01:47:46):
some shots and things that you know, specifically in White's case,
he hasn't done all year.
Speaker 4 (01:47:51):
But we just two were too inconsistent, and you know we.
Speaker 3 (01:47:54):
Have you know, you get kles met in blackwell and
foul trouble sitting in most of the first half for
you know, unnecessary filing at times, there's gonna be some
bang bang plays, but we we do some things at
times that are uncharacteristic. And then obviously the offensive class,
you know, and that I we talked about that at
nauseum that that was going to be a huge key
because of how many threes they shoot and they want
(01:48:15):
to track them down and chase them down. And and
then the turnovers. You know, when you have a two
possession game, you can't turn the ball over twelve times.
That has to be four. So you know, I think
you know, going through this stretch, we knew it was
going to be hard. We're learning as we go and
and we got to keep getting better because we don't
have any time to wait around you and flip around
(01:48:36):
and get ready for Butler. But you know, just I
like the what Winner gave us. I liked what McGee
gave us, so that JANICKI gave us really good minutes.
You know, three assists, no turnovers, the ball moved when
he was in there, Uh did some good things.
Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:48:50):
McGee has three assists, no turnovers.
Speaker 3 (01:48:53):
So you know, we we've got to get everybody, everybody
hitting at the potential they can play at all.
Speaker 4 (01:49:00):
The time and not be as inconsistent.
Speaker 2 (01:49:03):
You talked about Nolan and it was one of those
things during the start of the second half, I said,
Nolan's got to be more aggressive. This is a game
that fits him right, and he was, is this one
of those games that you look at that hopefully he
can build a lot of confidence from and continue to
be more aggressive out there, because he's showing it all
out there times he's too in my opinion, too passive.
And this was one where like, hey, you can do
(01:49:23):
this on a big stage, young fellow, Like go have
some fun. Yeah, and you know he's heard that one
hundred times, but he's he's got to go do it.
Do it.
Speaker 3 (01:49:31):
You gotta go do it. So we can talk about it.
We can say, yeah, he has the potential will be
a star on this stage, which he does. But you know,
he keep in mind he's still not to the halfway mark.
He's not at halftime in college yet. And so but
I thought today was a good step. He battled, he
got some offensive rebounds. You know, he wasn't bashful when
a couple of threes didn't go down, we kept tell
him shoot it, he shoot it, keep shooting it, you know.
(01:49:54):
So you know, I think good things from him. He
definitely took a good step in the right directions. Got
to get him to protect the rim a little bit better.
But yeah, I like what I said him. Gilmour gave
us all he could give us. McGee, like I said,
Jennicky did some good things.
Speaker 2 (01:50:10):
So defensively, did you guys think you were better? I
thought you were better than Yeah, Marquet like we were tighter,
you were flying to start the game. You just didn't
close out the.
Speaker 3 (01:50:20):
Possession, right, That's the issue is really where Yeah, the
loose balls, the rebounds, the extra possessions, you know. And
again we had shot the line really well. You know,
we're number one in the country and we go fourteen
for twenty one, so you know, all things. It's not
one specific thing. But as I just told them, we
you know, we're put the schedule together intentionally. I mean,
(01:50:41):
the league handled these two early ones to us, but uh,
we got to continue to get better and and there's
only one way you're gonna do it, and you gotta
face some adversity which we are right now, and keep
fighting your way through it, and we'll.
Speaker 1 (01:50:53):
Let you get home because it's ten to thirty, so
it is all right. Return and then back at it.
Thank you guys, all right, badger said coach Breaker. Are
joining US Illinois Wednesday tonight, eighty six to eighty
