Speaker 1 (00:02):
Good afternoon from mc Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana, alongside
Brian Butcher, engineer Dave McCann and Brian Freeman back at
our network studio. This is Matt Lapey. Welcome to Wisconsin basketball,
Big Time Big Ten. Matchup here today is the nine
and four Badgers nine and four in league play, nineteen
and five overall. Take it on, Matt Painters, Purdue Boilermakers,
(00:23):
the reigning Big Ten champion and national runner up. We're
eleven to three in conference play nineteen and six overall.
Before we get started, let's plaust ten seconds for station identification,
ten for an ID. This is Badger basketball from lear Field.
That's one of those fun games that make college basketball
a great game. As many things that are changing in
(00:46):
this landscape, and we've talked about that enough and we
get to just call games here today and Butcher, this
is one I think we always look forward to. When
do you make the trip to mac Arena, When do
the Badgers and Boilermakers have a chance to face off?
I think we agree this is the best atmosphere in
the Big Ten. The crowds here at mac Arena, and
maybe a lot of that has to do with the
(01:07):
fact that Purdue has been really good from some of
the Badgers.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, exactly, and that's what happens.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
That's why this is what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
You look at where they're at, both teams competing for
a Big Ten championship. This game means a whole bunch
when you talk about who's gonna come ahead and win
the Big Ten. Obviously Michigan's in play there as well,
But those three teams, I know, Michigan State there in play,
but their schedule is really tough. It's gonna come down
to Wisconsin, Purdue, and Michigan in my opinion, and this
(01:34):
game right here is gonna have a big part of that.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Oh, you mentioned this stretch that Wisconsin has in the
next week. This is game six of eight on the road,
and then they have a three game home stand. But
it's funny how this works, these schedule makers. Michigan and
Michigan State play each other a couple of times, Purdue
has some really difficult games ahead, it's worked out that
you're gonna have a lot of good versus good here
(01:58):
down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Well, yeah, and now you look at it, this is
a player that's what you want. Like let me face
off against the teams that we're competing for a championship
and let us figure it out. And that's what this
group has in front of them right now. You look
at Purdue Brady Smith, what he's doing, probably Big Ten
Player of the year him or Drake Puffin ready, either
one of them are gonna be right up there. And
(02:19):
you look at Wisconsin John Tanjay. He's an All Big
Ten player and what he's done. So guys are going
to have an opportunity to make a statement this afternoon.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
And that's what's great.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
About college basketball is they get to go and have
their say. This is why this sport is so great.
Games and afternoons like today.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Absolutely Super Bowl is dumb. We know a lot of
folks are starting to zero in more on college basketball.
Welcome to it. It's been really fun here so far
following this Wisconsin Badger's team, and who knows, maybe the
best is yet to come. And for that to happen today,
as you mentioned in one of the keys, you have
to find subway to at least containing Braden Smith, who's
(03:02):
so crafty and just so gifted overall. But how you
defend him. It's gonna be really interesting to watch unfold this.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Last name, and you can mix up the way you
do it. You go under.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Screens produce really good at rescreening if you go under,
so you have to be careful how many times you
can go under. You can hard hedge that to make
sure to try to force the ball out of it.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
You can trap. There's a lot of things that you
can do.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
But he's seen it all, and I mean it's not
like he's a player that hasn't seen it all. He's
seen it all. He's going to react. So you have
to be on your toes and you have to be
able to recover if you do get beef, because you
will get beat at some point. You know, we've talked
a lot about Braden Smith, but Fletcher Lawyer as well. Yeah,
I didn't talk about key wise, but you cannot let
him get open from three. As soon as he bangs
(03:47):
a three, this billing is gonna go absolutely nuts. So
he is on the catch defensively, when you're guarding him,
you have to be in his shot pocket right away
and don't let him elevate four. He's a no help guy.
You can't let him get going either.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
He is a forty five percent shooter from the three
point line. Those are the numbers of Fletcher Lawyer entering
today's game. Brian Dorsey, DJ Carstensen and John Floyd are
your officials the Badgers and the traveling Cardinal of the
White Trim Per two in the Home White, the Black
and Gold Trim.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I got really basketball nerdy there on you. You gotta
be there, shot pocket you. I like all of it,
but you can tell it's a big one. But that's
the reality of what this is. This is a kyp
game more than anything. Know your personnel, know the strengths
of the player you're guarding, and you can't have any
mental apses. If you have a mental lapse, Per Two's
gonna make you pay. Purdue, if they have a mental laps,
(04:45):
Wisconsin is gonna make them pay.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Now. The Badgers played the boy the Maker's pretty tough
in the regular season here Senior Day, among other things,
Zach Edy Appreciation Day, as they have his name and
number of other raptors here. Of course, the Badgers took
down Purdue in overtime at the Big Ten Tournament semi
final round, which proved to be Wisconsin's last win of
(05:08):
the season. Produce last Watts up until the national title game.
The bottom line is these two programs know the deal
about winning championships.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
As they know each other.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
They knew Tayler Bery, Stephen Crowe, Well, Jeff Centers. We're
set to go toss and tap to the Boilermakers. They'll
move to our rights, and we are underway and Machi
Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana. Braydon Smith against John Blackwell.
By the way, that's your opening matchup. Trey Kaufman Ren
top of the circle. He is with Stephen Crowe won
dribble a hand off to Smith, hedging that screen was
(05:43):
crowd now Blackwell picks him up as Smith scoops at
the Kaufman Wren back to Smith, curls around the high
ball screen to the left wing. Shot block is down
to five. Smith against Crow ab bounce, Kauffman, Wren acts
on Blackwell, Turns, goes up right in off the rim.
No good rebound. Battled four and it's grabbed by Nolan
Winter outlet the on Tanjay as a Badger's move to
I left. In the first half, tanj MaTx with Fletcher Lawyer.
(06:05):
They wrap it along the perimeter right side for Klesband
against Smith. That throw the Winter top of the circle
turns at the black Vell baseline left. The drive to
the bucket goes up way too strong, no good.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Cox the rebound and the Freshman with an out let
the bread and the Smith across the top of the
circle with the left hand ribble picked up by crowd
on the switch and now driving a defeat and it
came a first lower the left way up good and
that's the first points to the day.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
And that pick and roll.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Wisconsin's switched it to the last two possessions and produced got good.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Looked both times.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Max Klesman right of the key, throwing the crowd refeeds,
Max right wing Hawkman ren is out on Klesman darts
a past the Winter, lotates the Tanja hine left inside feed,
crowd catches kick out Blackwell extra pass. Max flips a
three right side nails it. Max Klesman with a three
and it's three to two. Wisconsin Man Butcher giving me
that look. Max is gonna hit at least four of
(06:54):
them today and there's one. There's one.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Yeah, just feels like a Max Klusban game.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
All right there with you. Here's Kaufman Renn high on
the right, goes off to Braiden Smith. Tried to slip
a pass inside, it was kicked by Blackwell. Trying to
feed Kaufman Wren Braiden Smith, who gets eight and a
half assists per game, and a ton of those go
to Kaufman Wren. Great guard. We were talking earlier in
the week. It's a little bit of the college version
of Stockton to Malone. For those who remember the nineties
(07:23):
in the Utah Jazz, here's break yeah, pretty good. Yeah yeah.
For those who don't know, they were really good. Here's
Braiden Smith dribbling left lane. I got around Blackwell and
Throzen away one and camleb first pass picked off in
the lane by Klesban. Here's Max up the floor for Wisconsin.
Taps the breaks, feeds. Krawd throws to Blackwell on the
left wing. Three two Wisconsin. We're two minutes in Blackwell
(07:44):
between the circles throwing an olden Winter sends to Klesman
left wing. Bounce past kraw left of the lane, back
out the Max rotates. Winter raps to Tanjay on the
right side. Cox defended Tanjay can't good free eight of
the shot clock. John will throw the Krow at the
mid court logo back with time three to shoot. Two
is shoe to feed the winter for three right of
the circle. It's good with a shot clock up Baptist
(08:06):
strike zero six ' to two Wisconsin. We're two and
a half minutes in. Here's Bradon Smith up the floor
full the Purdue Boilermakers against John Blackwell. Now Klesman will
pick him up, high screen from Kaufman Wren. Smith kills
the dribble. He'll throw the lawyer between the arcs. Blackwell
defending Lawyer. Now Layers sends to Kaufman Wren left of
(08:28):
the circle. Backs in on Kraw left of the lane,
mid post, left left shoulder, turn up right hand. Good
first points for Tray Coffton Ren sixty four Wisconsin. Three
minutes gone by here in West Lafayette. Blackwell high screen
from Krow, John throwing the Winter, turns to Tan Jay
left corner three and that's over everything weak sideboard CJ.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Cox full.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
The Purdue Boilermakers would have liked more of.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
A ball reversal. They've been able to get Purdue to
switch offense. He got to keep moving it.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Here's Smith left over ball with a shot fake Tanj
not biting. Now it's cig A Cox left side three
and he drills. He's forty two percent per three is
CJ Cox, and it's seven to six.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Perdue and a defensive breakdown there by Wisconsin an overhelp situation.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Ton Jay right wing drive it on Smith baseline right
in the lane, threw it away into the hands of
coffin ren turnover Wisconsin. Smith feeds. Lawyer steps into the
three right side and he knocks it down off the turnover.
It's now ten to six Perdue, or even it's forty
five seconds into the game. Menature that Perdue is a
team that can crush you with those live ball turnovers.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
You just can't have him. You just can't.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
At the ball is Stephen Krow hands off the Klesman
max high of the rights, eight point run here for
the ball of Bakers Klesman for three right side hits
the rim no good the rebound Blackwell on the left
baseline and whoddles away from congestion. Now backing into the
lane from the left wing, goes up and he is
fouled by Caleb first and there's your game's first foul him.
(09:57):

Come First. Fifteen forty nine left first half Purdue ten,
Wisconsin six. This is a Badger basketball from lear Field.
Badger fans have been looking for the perfect N game meal.

veggie topics, then bump part them with over half a
pound of award winning Wisconsin mozzarella cheese. Groupub lots of

and are available in your grocer's freezer. Eight point run
for the Boilermakers. Fifteen forty nine left for the first
half for Due ten Wisconsin six.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Now I know Wisconsin Temps twenty nine three pointers in
Big Ten play on the season. It's you know at
TEMs twenty eight, but all of their shots except for one,
I know. It's only five here in the game have
been from three.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Still can't forget.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
To attack the paint. Don't have a problem. I thought
Max three was a little rushed, and I thought John
Tante's three was a little rushed.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
What happens you do attack the paint?
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Last possession, John Blackwell gets to the free throw. Watch
so don't just because the environment sometimes that leads you
get a little bit of three point happy and not attacking.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Love to see John attack that last possession.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yeah, Davis is still a good defensive team for Purdue,
but Jack Edie has moved on, so he's not there
to block shots for his free throw has missed for
John Blackwell and eighty one percent foul shooter if you
missed two in a row. Here the crowd gets free fries,
so that that's what's on the line here. Blackwell will
try to deny them. Free throw is no good fries
(11:45):
for everyone. What your lawyer? The rebound for the boiler
mat caes that include us, I go be nice to
the guests. Ten to six perdue. Little more than four
minutes into the game, Tray Coffin ran hands off the
Braydon Smith flies across top circle, whips the lawyer with
the shot faked clesband defense, bounce past Kaufman Ren midpost
left against Nolan Winter turns upright hand.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
That's just a big boy move right there.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
I mean that Nolan did oh everything he could do,
but Trey Kaufman run of the reason he's averaging nineteen
a game. He used that shoulder to to create enough
space without it being an offensive foul.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Carter gilmoreen for Steven krow Gilly between the circles, twelve
six per due, Klesban top of the arc, max out
the Winter. He'll try another three right of the circle
and he is two for two. Nolan Winter with six
twelve nine per due as that hit stops Purdue's run
at ten.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
A little anything you can do, I can do better there.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Nolan Winter averaging ten points a game. Coming in, Kaufman
wrenn left of the lane, faces up on Winter, puts
it on the next spin move on the left goes
up and he is fouled by Nolan Winter and Kaufman Ren,
a sixty four percent free throw shooter, will be at
the line for two twelve nine per due fourteen forty
eight left in the first half.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
And obviously you see the focus trying to get the
ball into the post. A couple of things that needs
to Number one, there needs to be ball pressure on
the passer wasn't enough there, so the ball the entry
pass was super easy. And then when you look at
Trey coffin Burn wanting to spend Nolan Winners got to
force him to the help. The help was lined up
the defensive end, that paint was packed, but you got
(13:16):
to force him that help where his.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Free throw is no good for kaufmin Ren, who's averaged
twenty three and a half points a game over his
last four. Caleb first comes out. Camden Heidi six seven
sophomore is in the lineup and Camarie McGee will sub
in for John Blackwell. Second free throw from kaufman Ren
after missing the first, and he is good with the second.
They get thirteen to nine Perdue fourteen forty eight left
(13:41):
of the first half and the mbounds pass goes to
Max Klesbant and the senior out of Nino Wisconsin brings
it up the floor, breaks the midstrip along the right sideline,
rose to Gilmore up top, turns to Tan Jay left
point whips it into Nolan Winter a double briefly as
they get it out of there to Klesband on the
right side, Max against Breton's sm spinder. Smith goes down left.
(14:01):
The call step back mid range is good for Klesmand.
No contact there, Smith trying to sell it. No sale,
and it's thirteen to eleven per Due.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
We've talked a lot about it on road games.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
But watch that chicken wing John Blackwellman's Coleusband John Tom
Jam you'd like to get to do that a little bit.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
There's Smith off the screen from kaufmin Ren throws it
into Kaffin rent to the rim shot blocked by Gilmore,
sends it out to Fletcher Lawyer high on the left
lobs at the CJ.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Cox.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Seven o'clock there's Braydon Smith noticing that with five to shoot,
Smith left side working against Winter fadeaway baseline left air
ball caught underneath by Kamarnie McGee. Big time defensive work
from Wisconsin. Badrew's third in the league in defensive efficiency
in league games, per Due ranks second. Here's Klesban outside right,
thirteen to eleven the Boilermakers Clesband Whipster Gilmore. I'll send
(14:51):
it to McGee quick past Winter turns to Max right
side of the shot. Fake Drice baseline left, turns it
back out Gilmore. Now it's over to tan Jay left.
Caught it three is good. Gilmore to McGee to Tanjay
for the triple and the Badgers lead fourteen to thirteen.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
And you knew the ball was moving. As soon as
that ball started popping, you knew that shot was.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Going in thirteen twenty. He left in the first half.
Raydon Smith against Cumari McGee be a fun match up
to track. Smith now wiggles into the lane out to
the hide of the shot. Fake rhythm dribble gives off
to Smith right of the circle. Good closed from Gilmour.
Smith drives on him in traffic up no rebound Tanjay.
As the Badgers make it tough in the paints, here
(15:30):
comes John left side front court, left of the lane.
Pivots finds Gilly opened three left side, tried to bank
and miss it, hiding the rebound outlet bradon Smith the
bound to Fletcher. Lawyer goes up and got it. Count
it an a foul on Carter gil Moore first on Gilly.
Purdue regains the lead fifteen to fourteen.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
And I realistically, I thought last possession.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
There was more contact Brad Smith going in than there
was on this one. To be honest, I thought Carter
Gilmore went straight up. It's straight down to CALLI on
this one. Sometimes that happens.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
Jack Janicki, John Blackwell coming into the game, Stephen Crowe
re entering, Winter Clesband and Tan Jay sit down. Is
let your lawyer better than eighty five percent of the
free throw line. We'll step to the stripe. Raleigh Burgess
six to eleven freshmen out of Cincinnati. We'll enter for
Trey Kaufman Wren while you're averaging about fourteen a game,
(16:26):
five points so far and they get six. Is he
pays it off with the free throw? Xavier Amos, We'll
check in for Carter Gilmore sixteen or fourteen per due
twelve forty eight left and a half, and here comes
John blackwells. It's Blackwell, Amos, Janicki, McGee and Crowell. Janicky
up top throwing to Crow turns to McGee on the
(16:48):
right side. Jakari Harrison there for the boiler Makers. Now
Crow baseline right, had it knocked away by Burgess and
out of bound. Jakariy Harris sixty three freshmen out of Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
And the last possession's Braden Smith. Kind of gamble there.
That's where Purdue is really good as far as matching
up out of those gamble situations.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Baseline right, Lamari McGee looking, you'll throw it out the
crow high on the rights. Well Lison for Janicky throws
to Amos, sends to McGee on the left side. Things
are back out front. Shot clock is at six. There's Blackwell,
try to slip it in the crowd gets there right
block three to shoot too, to shoot nice feed jan
Nicky low on the right for the lay up. Pretty
(17:29):
delivery inside.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
That's where Big Steam is just so good at taking
his time. So many bigs would be rushed in that situation.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Tied at sixteen, McGee trying to get into Braydon Smith
gets it across half court. Smith top of the circle,
rose to Harris high on the right. Harris matched up
with Blackwell and another pass goes off the foot of
John Blackwell. We have the under twelve media timeout. American

the first half. Wisconsin sixteen produced sixteen. This is Badger
of basketball from lear Field throw forward with our broadcast.
(18:22):
Wanted to send our thoughts and condolences to a family
of Greg Sherrick, a long time a radio voice of
Nebraska corn Husks football and baseball. He passed away yesterday
at the age of sixty one after about a year
long battle with cancer. A terrific broadcaster and a great
friend who so many of us and he will be
(18:43):
sorely missed. And again our thoughts and thoughts and prayers
go to a Greg his family and so many friends,
including Lane Grindle, who's a member as we all know,
the Brewers' broadcast team, very close with Greg. Lane has
gone to work with with Nebraska. So kind of a
kind of a day, another tough day. We lose Bob
Yucker in our state last month. I think Greg sharp
(19:05):
a lot of us in the Big Ten. Just a
great guy, sixty one, A little way too young.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Yeah, way way too young. And it's it's what much
college athletics.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Great.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I'm very fortunate to be sitting in this chair, and
you've been doing this a long time. I know people
in Wisconsin feel the same way. What it is you
can tune on turn turn on the radio and feel
a sense of comfort and listen to your favorite team.
That's a good feeling.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Yeah, great, a great voice in our in our industry,
and a big loss to the Nebraska Huskers family. We
have eleven minutes and fifty nine seconds left in the
first half year at mc Arena, Wisconsin and Purdue tied
at sixteen. It'll be Boilermaker's ball. What your lawyer will
be inbounding Lawyer looking flipped it into Kaufman ren right
(19:51):
of the circle out to Braydon Smith. He's with Jack Jinnicky.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Sisconsin in one three one zone right now, in which.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
They have worked on a bit this week, trying to
see how Purdue, who fares against it hasn't always been great,
but Lawyer is a guy who can and he tries
a long three from the left side and he got
fouled in the process, and they get John Blackwell, and
that is a three shot foul.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
He said it to start the broadcast. He is on
the catch type player. What happened is it's a second late.
When you're a second late and you're closing out to
a really good shooter and Fletcher Lord like, that's where
though you have those those files happen, bottom line is
you can't have them happen. Yeah, we've seen that now
a couple of different times. Saw that Maryland Marquette, Marquette.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Yeah, first free throw is good for Lawyer and the
second rattles out, no good, one more coming. Lawyer two
out of three at the foul line in this game,
and he's two out of three on that sequence there.
It's eighteen sixteen perdue with eleven forty after the first half.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
With this group that Greg has out there, Baul's got
to kind of find its way to John Blackwell.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
McGhee throwing to Amos, rotates to Janicki on the left side,
back to x. He's with Heidi. A throw to McGee
who's it to Blackwell. Tough pass, but he's there for it.
With ten of the shot clock, McGhee finds kraw left
of the circle. He sends to Janicky on the left
wing shot clock at five. Jack on the dribble bounces
the Blackwell open three right side, in and out. No
(21:26):
good to rebound. Tray Coughton run for Purdue.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Good look, pretty good, look exactly no great offense.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
There, eleven oh eight left in the half. Eighteen sixteen
the Boilermakers Braydon Smith throwing to kaufmin run at the
free throw line, moving in on Amos. A throw to
Harris left corner three is good. Her son of Glenn Robinson,
Jakari Harris with a triple and it's twenty one sixteen perdue.
Ten fifty left in the first half. Glenn Robinson, the
(21:52):
big Dog, a legend here at Purdue, national player of
the Year thirty one years ago. Here's Amos finding McGee
baseline right, drives to the bucket, a whole bit of
foul and Kamari McGee will go to the free throw
line for two shots.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
All right, Wiscott's able to hit the post?
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Hit the posts? Excuse me, Kamara McGee? Is they able
to cut to the front of the rim on the
back side?
Speaker 3 (22:12):
I see?
Speaker 2 (22:12):
The last possession is gotta find. It's gonna find John
Blackwell right well, when you hit the post now all
of a sudden, the Lews Cutters gives you some flexibility.
You also see coach guard bringing in John Tom Jay
and Max Cleusband coming in next as well. So knew
that group wasn't gonna be together that long. Just based
on scoring wise.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Kamari McGee hits the first free throw Taylor, first ball
re enter for cam Heiden, first points for Kamari. Average
is better than seven a game. He also has slightly
better than a three to one assist to turnover ratio
this season. Talk about his shooting and his scoring, then
turnover ratio you're talking about coming a long way, and
(22:54):
that's been the case with Kamari, who it's both free throws,
he'll come out. So the five of the floor for
Wisconsin or Klesban Blackwell, Tanjay Gilmore and Kray twenty one
to eighteen perdue at ten thirty eight left in the
first tab, Braydon and Smith throwing to Harris between the
arcs bounces, the Kaufman are on top of the circle,
hands off Letcher Lawyer right wing, hooks at Harris open
(23:15):
three straight away back in iron and over the glass
and out of bounds to Wisconsin. Clean look Jakari here
is he hit got three a moment ago. He's only
twenty seven percent from the yarc coming into the game.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
And defensive Wisconsin hasn't been great so far.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Blackwell the front court, I'll produce seven of twelve. The
Badgers are six of eleven from the field. Gilmore at
the top, throwing the Blackwell baseline left, now retreats, drifting
to the top. Shot clock at ten. Blackwell, he's a
high screen from kraw John picked up by Kaufmann Ren
Now Gilmore five to shoot Klesmen left side. He's a
(23:55):
go to work. Launches at three near the left corner,
hits the back of the rim. No good. Breton Smith
rebound long lead bet Lawyer Gray pass and Lawyer will
catch him. Lie to the ren for the layup.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
You can't give those up.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Hold the first thing I said, no transition backs, Bucket.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
You gotta get.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Back five assists already for Braydon Smith twenty three to
eighteen per Due nine thirty eight left tail halftime, Tonjay
outside right, Caleb first defending Tonjay steps back. He'll try
a three and that's an air ball. He's thrown up
two of them here in this first half. Here comes
Braydon Smith the other way for the ball of makers.
Smith thought the coff and Ren screen screen and roll
(24:33):
coppin Ren catches goes up right hand, missed it, but
a foul.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Last two possessions have been offensively have been very bad
for Wisconsin. What has that led to? A layup and
now two free throws? And it's amazing when you offensively
the ball isn't moving like it should, then all of
a sudden, it puts your defense in a really tough spot.
And that's what we've seen these last two possessions.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Kraw with that foul his first and Kaufman Ren with
five points one of two at the free throw line.
It's two more strokes here, and the first free throw
is no good. Yeah, to your point, you know, you
play some teams you can get away with that court.
This is not one of them.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
No. And and really the margin of era isn't that
big as far as big ten tea.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
If you look at the Wisconsin team and.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yo, the losses that they've had, they don't have a
bad loss no, right, there's not. They're all cool like
you look at you know the losses they have. But
that margin of era is so slim. You can't have
those little mistakes.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Second free throw that's too long, no good plesbant the
rebound up the foreguts by Miles Colvin, who had checked in.
Max feeds McGee at the Klesman at the left point,
move it and you will win. To the offense, Tanjay
on the right side working against Colvin, teams are back
out front now, Klesmitt wraps at the McGee left corner.
He's with Smith driving floater, good baseline left floater from
(25:57):
Kamari McGee twenty three, twenty perdue.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
And I'm saying move it because a lot of what
they're doing right now is the ball sticking for a
second or two. Do you start moving right away on
that catch? Now, all of a sudden, produced defense is
gonna shift more.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Riles Colvin, the sophomore out of Indianapolis, son of very
good football player here, Roosevelt Colvin is Craig Kaufman. Ren
throws one away. A little miscommunication as the pass goes
out of bounds to Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Well, that's a turnovers by Kamara McGee. He's not gonna
get a steal on that. He should because that turnover
was all because of the way he pressured Brainsmith.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Badgers down three eight to forty left in the first half.
McGee getting a screen from Winter, Kamari right in the lanes,
wanted to kick it. He got fouled first. I think
that was Kaufman when getting in there for Purdue. That'll
be his first and team found number three of the Boilermakers.
Badgers have been hit with four eight thirty five left
(26:49):
first half for due twenty three Wisconsin twenty the Gee
baseline right, will throw it in to Nolan Winter on
the right wing into Gilmore, kicks it out that tan
Jay took a look, turn it down, throws to McGee
left wing. Magee against Colvin Camari with a bound for
Winter shovels it back to McGee left corner works baseline
high past Tanji trying to go up and get it
(27:10):
and knocked out of bounds. A break for Wisconsin. Caleb
first got in there. Now we're up top a lot
of rows, but that sure looked like it went off
of Tanja. No complaints from Wisconsin at all, not even
not even.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Rows. I got a good view. We do have a
great view. Five on o'clock here. They gotta get it
off quick.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
There's Nolan. Lets it fly off the rim. No good
and a foul on Colvin is going in trying to
get the offensive rebound was Tanja and he got shoved
off and Miles Colvin was six ' five sophomore with
the foul.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
I think sometimes you got to buy a call. Tanj
might have bought a call there. Yeah, a little bit
in bounced past. Winter hands it back to McGee on
the left side. Fine, Tanja. He'll try a three left
side front of the rim. No good rebound. Braydon Smith.
He'll turn and go Smith.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
In control, pull up three shots straight away off the rim,
no good rebound, knocked out of bounds. Last touch by
Nolan Winter Is He and Trey Kuffman Wren were battling
for the rebound.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
That last five was a little I believe I can
fly action there, but.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Yes, CJ. Cox will come in or Jakari Harris twenty
three to twenty per due with eight oh one left
in the first half, Cox's baseline right will end bound.
He looks finds the cutting Smith feeds first low and
the left slam dunk. Caleb purst Hes.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Four six assist.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Sorry for Brads, I mean he just he affects the
game in so many ways.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Twenty five to twenty the Boiler Bakers Gilmore throwing a
Tanjay on the right side. Ton Jay feeds Winter the
edge of the center circle. I throw it at Gilmore,
I'll pass out to klesband Max try to get it
back to Carter Gilmore and the pass is wide of
the target and goes out of bounds, and that'll be
turnover number two. Here for Wisconsin, we have the under

They produce shooting at whites out nine to fifteen badgers.
Now we started hot slipping a bit at seven of sixteen.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Hey, big ten to can we do what just happened? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (30:01):
They did a little promotion here at contest with these
Saint Elmo's cocktail sauce. If you have if when you
go to Indianapolis, you need to go there if you can.
But that cocktail sauce is fire.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Oh, but they just did it all you could eat
eat the cocktail.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
You had to use. The cocktail sauce not only counted
four strip I ease, it could have done six shrimp
in that time.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Amateur.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
We're we're gonna find out there, mister Butch.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
That mister Semester here, all right, Bill's on you.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
You're gonna be crying for three days if it's great.
But oh everything in moderation they say, there's Dray kaffin
ren left of the lane, backing on Nolan Winter left shoulder,
turning up right hand back room. No good Winter.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
The rebound they made it difficult on Trey Kaufman run
early on in this game.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
And Stephen Kraal throwing to Tanja on the left side.
Tanja one out of four all the shots from distance
Nolan Winter out of the circle each Tanja off the
krowd screen Tanjay and the lamp lipped it up and
in low on the left. Good attack from John Tanja
twenty five twenty two perdue a.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Great balance on one foot right. It makes the euro move,
still has the balance to go up and finish.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Six fifty left on the first half. Smith Bob's off
of Caleb first screen out throws a CJ. Cox left
elbow jump off the rim. No, but a Poulas call?
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Is that John Blackwell second on him?
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Yeah, shooter gonna be yeah, Yeah, you're right. Lit fouls
are jumpers one a three shot foul and now Jack
Janicki's ready to check back in as CJ. Cox seventy
seven and a half free throw.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
Shooter and Matt that's where it's got to be a
rear contest. And when I say a rear contest, you
fly by on the backside and try to make it
difficult on this shooter, but you can't get any part
of the body, and those happen. You understand you're trailing
the situation. You're trailing to play, you're behind it. You
don't give up on the play, but you use something
(31:55):
called the rear contest to be able to get and
make that shooter feel where you are without coming anywhere near.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Fowling Blackwell al Jinnikki is in.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Cox hit the first as well as the second free
throw twenty seven to twenty two perdue six forty three
left in the first half. So John's sitting down with
those two fouls a chance we will not see him
the rest of the half. Here's Tanjay driving lost the ball,
got to the floor, McGee kept it alive, and then
Tanjay got tied up. Bodies on the floor. Nothing called turnover. Wisconsin,
(32:25):
Braydon Smith throwing at Colvin Good. Look at a three
left wing back of the rim. No good rebound. They'll
get kraw trying to tap it back. Greg Guard irate
and that Wisconsin bench. A lot of contact there at
the other end of the floor and nothing at that end.
They get the foul over here on Steven Krowe, and
(32:46):
that's going to be two on Crowl.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
And we don't see Greg get that upset. But there
was a and I said it right where you were
explaining what was going on. There were bodies there for
three or four different times. There was bodies down there,
a lot of contact.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Lie more in crowd sitting with the two fouls Blackwell
and crowd on the bench with two fouls Breton Smith
and there.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
They're gonna be red.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Yeah, yeah, they're gonna take a look as McGee trying
to go over that Kaufman Wren screen and Kaufman Wren
uh looking like he got hit where you don't want
to get hit.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Hey, Greg is coach guard is not gonna be he is.
It's about as animated as we've seen this year.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Yeah, they're they're the foul is on Kamari McGee and
now they're gonna check for a potential flagrant. We have
six twenty left in the first half twenty seven twenty two.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Producer So thought there, I have.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
A feeling it's gonna get up for it too. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Now Kamar is.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Doing and I get I understand that they're gonna say
what's going but you're taught to get around with that
shoulder and right when it happens. It's just it's it's
a little it's I mean, it is, it's a fighter, and.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
That will be This is already the seventheen foul. So
Purdue is in the bonus. Boilermakers six out of ten
at the free throw line, as the Badgers have been
whistled a lot here in this first half. Wisconsin two
out of four at the free throw line. All that said,
(34:20):
Purdue up just five. We have six twenty left in
the first half. It's officiating through of Brian Dorisey, DJ
Carstonson and John Floyd. Looking at the monitor.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
How big a monitor do you think that is down there?
We should get him at fifteenth you think it?
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Yeah, think yeah, there's got to be a faster way
to do this. Either it either is or it isn't. Yeah,
you say, have you have two at a time? Then
the conference you know, they'll go do the first two
officials one steps away, another one steps in.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Now they all talk about it, and I get the conversations,
but I do I think it's one of those things
does this whole process in general. But as soon as
it happened, I knew it was gonna get reviewed because
it's one of those plays that just and also.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Treyman Red's reaction to it. DJ Carstenson over there talking
to Greg Guard. John Floyd doing the same with Purdue
head coach Matt Painter. Six twenty left, first half twenty
seven twenty two per due leading Wisconsint.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
A lot of conversations happening right now. Okay, one with
the scores is telling.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
The TV and one with Matt Batter You've got one
with Greg Guard.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
You're the public addressed announcement here for the rest of
us has been found flagrant too, So he's done it
a flagrant too.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Yeah, I did not see a flagrant too here.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
I that I disagree with.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
The intense not there, there's a screen, he's coming down.
I understand the wording of the law, but understand the game,
understanding the moment.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Flagrant too. I disagree with this.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Max Klesmant will be coming in.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Now.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
I've only seen one replay ament Matt. Yeah, I mean
I saw it quickly on the big board.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
I have not had a chance to see it again.
But yeah, great guard is I rate so Trey Kaufin
Wren will be at the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
And Kamari you know you feel for just I think
he's got to go to the locker room.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Yeah. Yeah, Jim Snyder, the Badger's straint coach, is going
to be the one escorting.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
I just not because I'm not because we're doing this
for the Badgers, just as I just don't like that
call as a flagrant too. Yeah, there's no intent there.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
He's trying to get through the screen.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
I just I yeah, it seemed the look that we had.
We certainly saw the one that the upgrade to a
Flager one the Flager two. I don't know well, but
they determined it was kauflin Ran hits the first free
throw it twenty eight twenty two Perdue leads Wisconsin. So
that explains the length of the correvercation. The longer it goes,
(37:40):
the worst it usually.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Kids.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
If you have and I mean this is the last
I'll say about you got number seven of the country,
you got number sixteen the count. We've got a great
basketball game, and we had a great basketball game still
will I mean, this team has gone through enough Wisconsin,
but it just didn't feel like it needed to be elevated.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Extended possession because the Purdue will have the ball point
of interruption. The free throws are made. Perdue basketball in
bounced past Brayden Smith. Seven point lead for the Boilermakers,
six fifteen left to the first half. Smith off the
screen of Kaufman Wren, Jack Janicky defending. I'll pass the
first back out the Smith between the yark. Smith drives
on Jadicky in the lane four to shoot, leaning shot,
(38:20):
swatted away by Janicky and saving it as Tanjay as
he scooped it to Carter Gilmour, So another rejection for
Jack JANICKI. Here's Gilmore on the dribble out to Winter
for three up top in and out, no good rebound,
Gilmour crashing it won't go first clears for Perdue, and
now Braidon Smith gets a screen from Caleb first Smith
(38:42):
against Gilmore. Smith off the right wing in the lane
baseline left wing to Kaufman. Wren scoops it back to Smith,
goes into Kaufman Ren kickout CJ Cox leaning eighteen footers
straight on end grew thirty, won twenty two the Boilermakers
with five twenty five left in the half. Ridical juncture
(39:03):
Here for Wisconsin, Crowlon Blackwell on the bench with two fouls.
Kamari McGee ejected after a flagrant too. Klesman left laneline
now driving down the lane to the rim, pushed it
up and end Max with seven here in the first half.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
I like that take just to understand, just calm everybody down,
get a bucket, and that's exactly what Max understood the situation.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Thirty one twenty four per Due, four point fifty five
left in the half. CJ. Cox throwing to Trey Kaufmanren
at the top of the circle two left team Hippye
dribbles Lizafer Smith Smith right lane line ten foot is
good first points for Brayton Smith. Thirty three twenty four Perdue,
with four forty left of the first half. Oland Winter
(39:46):
throwing to Klesban nibbles off the left link, slips at
the Winter and throws it up in in got around
Kaufin Wren Low on the left Winter with eights thirty
three twenty six the boiler bakers.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Oh, we've seen back to that paint touch there all right,
getting to the paint, putting some pressure on it on
the rim.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
CJ. Cox left edge of the center circle throwing to
Braydon Smith high screen Coffin Ren Smith right lane line
leans in in the coffin I wren low on the left,
Ez money for Kaufin Ren thirty five twenty six per Due,
four h five left of the first half. Stephen kraw
will check in next whistle. Klesbant tries at three on
(40:25):
the right side. Off the right side. I are no good,
Kaufman ren the rebound. Look quick. There's Smith high screen,
Kaufman Wrenne Smith shuffling right of the lane. Pump fake
and a triple team trying to get out of the
box and finds the open man to see j Cox
left foul line extended, jumper is halfway down, popped out.
(40:46):
No good, Noland Wincher the board for Wisconsin. Three and
a half minutes left in the half, thirty five twenty
six per Due. That's just four or fourteen from the arc.
Here in the first half, here's JANICKI left corner three
on the way.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
It's good, big time shot there, I mean his energy
since Kamor McKee's been out of this game. He comes
in right away and gets a block. Now you know,
drills this big time three that Wisconsin needed.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
Nicky with five here in the half thirty five twenty
nine per Due three oho eight left of the break.
Smith off the coffin ren screen pull up thih line
jumper is a round the room and out no good
Nolan Winter the board for Wisconsin out let the tanjay
up the right sideline of the front forward is tanjay
go in the winter feeding klesmid baseline left in the lane,
throws a tanjay in the lane. Pivots pumps, goes up
(41:33):
and hand tonjay with seven thirty five thirty one perdueh.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Great response here by Wisconsin fantastic two forty left.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
In the first half, Smith sets the floor for the
boiler Makers, bounces the cocks deep left wing. The turn
feed for Smith edge of the center circle shot clockett ten.
Smith turns down the first screen and the lane glides
it up. Missed but a foul and free throws coming up.
We're at the under four media timeout. Lenards is a
(42:05):
proud sponsor of Wisconsin Athletics and reminds everyone to say
big money and all your whole improvement needs at Lenards
and Badger fans. Today's game is brought to you by
the official products of Wisconsin Athletics. Drew pub lots about
Ti Pizza, Old Dutch Chips and Pepsi to twenty six
left to the first half. Per Due thirty five Wisconsin
thirty one, which is Badger of basketball from lear Field.
(42:29):
US Bank is a proud partner of Wisconsin Athletics Together.
There's nothing as powerful as the power of us US
Bank Equal Housing lender member FDC. Badgers have made four
of their last five shots. We have two twenty six
left for the break. Perdue thirty five Wisconsin thirty one.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
Last thing I'll say about the Kamari Vigia jecks because
I've now seen it in a little bit more during
the break. He is trying to reach through deflect the ball.
Yes he gets contact, shoot flager one on fine flagrant two.
I just think is a little much of this situation.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
There's zero intent.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
It's We've seen different plays where, yes, you could say
flagrant two for that half, but not there he's trying
to reach in and deflect it. It goes against Wisconsin.
That being said, how about the response from this Wisconsin groups.
If they've responded, it's a four point game, they've done
what they've needed to do and.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
You move on.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
And I think that you know, obviously we've seen Greg
be a little bit more vocal than we have been
a little bit more animated.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
But he's fought for.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
This group, and this group has continued to fight for him.
That's a sign of a great program.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Yeah, it is a the five of the floor, Jack Schnicky,
who has five points in this first half. He's out
there with Max Flesbet, john Ton Jay, Stephen Kroll and
Xavier Amus. Yeah, we did get a look at that
multiple replays there, and I do not understand how that's
a flagrant too on Kamari McGee, and I just should not.
(43:52):
That's not the bucket glasses there either, flagrant one if
I want to call it that fine, flagrant two no, Yeah,
So breaking the Smith will be at the free throw
line where he is an eighty four percent foul shooter.
He has seven assists in this game, average is eight
and a half a game, and the first free throw
is good.
Speaker 2 (44:15):
The two twenty six left in his first half. Now,
Kitwall Fensley wis gone to keep moving the ball. They
were the way that they have been the last couple
of possessions. And then defensively can they guard a little bit?
I mean they've given up thirty seven right now.
Speaker 1 (44:28):
Well, free throw is good, thirty seven to thirty one
per due to twenty two left in the half. Jack
Jenecki working on screens from Amos and Crow. A throw
to x up top Amos top of the circle, feeds
Tanjay high and the ride loop to the end of
crowd gets doubled by Lawyer and Smith. Crow in some
trouble on the baseline. It's tapped out of bounds with
the two guards getting in there and causing trouble on
(44:49):
Stevie with twelve of the shot clock.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
And both those times they chopped down and it must
have got ball. I mean, obviously, I'm we're we're a
little bit further up, but the way that they chopped down,
I'm surprised it wasn't a foul either.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
One of those Jennicky baseline right, we'll inbound looking and
gets it into Xavier Amos low on the riot. He'll
go up and get it, gathers and scores.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
Yeah, what a great cats there by X.
Speaker 1 (45:12):
Thirty seven thirty three per due with two minutes left
in the half, rating Smith through the center circle of
the front court. I scream Caleb first, Smith shuffling right
foul line extended jump pass first, throwing a Lawyer off
the firstel screen Caleb first picking off Max Klesman, and
that's going to be the second foul on first.
Speaker 2 (45:33):
And I laughed, because Max does everything that you're supposed
to do on that as you fight over the top,
you have your hand extended a lot like comar Me
obviously the way it played out with the camar but
that's the way it's taught, and that's you do it
the right way there and you get rewarded.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
First, we'll sit down with those two fouls. Heidius in
for the Boilermakers. Janicki throwing to Klesban Max high on
the left, starts to probe, brings it back out, throws
to Amos Feats on the right side out the X
snaps off the three right wing off the rim, No good.
Brayton Smith the rebound for Purdue. He'll turn, starts to push,
flides to the front court in control. Kaufman Wren gets
(46:11):
it back to Smith and at nineteen left in the half,
Purdue up thirty seven thirty three. Kaufman Ren hands off
the lawyer. Lawyer at the right elbow, pivots scoops to
Kaufman Ren at the free throw line, jabs kicks left corner.
Cocks for three off the rim and out no good Amos.
The rebound for Wisconsin starts at the John Tanjay on
the right sideline, now moves to the middle front court.
(46:33):
Tanjay in the lane, knock loose fouls call, that'll be
team found number six on the boiler Makers. Brian Dorsey
on the call. They'll get Cam Heidi for his first foul.
Fifty seven point four left in the half. Thirty seven
thirty three Perdue. Jack Janicki baseline left will end bound,
(47:00):
so Nikki looks, I'll send it back near mid court
for Tanjay. Tonjay matchup with CJ.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
Cox.
Speaker 1 (47:06):
Tanjay has stepped back three on the way. It's good.
John Tanjay's second three point hit Wisconsins within one.
Speaker 2 (47:13):
It's amazing. I just don't know how it makes it.
Do you know how hard of a shot that is?
I mean, he makes it look so easy.
Speaker 1 (47:19):
Thirty seven thirty six Perdue. Here's Smith passed through traffic.
It's batted away, can't Heidi his air fees Lawyer shot
bake now a three left corner off the rim, no good,
and Savior Amos elevates for the rebound. Thirty seconds left
in the half thirty seven thirty six Perdue, Max Klesman
across half court. Oh, but your lawyer went down to contact.
They'll play on Greg cars the time out and he'll
(47:41):
get it. Boy, I'm not just getting a little bit
chippy out there. I was kind of waiting for a
coal there. A lawyer was selling it to me. He was,
But Max, there was contact. The question about, Yeah, Badger's
catch a break there with twenty one point two who
left in the first half, Matt Painter getting his words
(48:03):
in twenty one point two on the game clock, sixteen
on the shock clock, thirty seven thirty six per Due
leading Wisconsin. So the Badgers catch a break on a
no call, Greg guard taking his user or lose it
time out.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
And that's where just understanding time score what Purdue's done.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
Now, they've tried to get a couple of those.
Speaker 2 (48:25):
I thought the first couple there were flops by per two. Yeah, right,
so that's why they don't get that call right there.
But this last one they don't get the call. But
Max extended it. There's no question. But when you do
flop the first couple, it sets up not to get
this call. And I think you know when you look
at it. I understand that that beats sid Brian Dorsey
(48:47):
was looking at the accident. Greg garb was trying to
call a time out for about five seconds, then sold.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
Greg got the time out. Regroup.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
You're down by one sixteen on the clock, twenty one
on the game clock. A great spots here by this
Wisconsin tea that was Dow.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
Badgers will be inbounding front court should be sidelined right
and is now Brian Dorsey over at the scores table.
Dorsey now talking with Matt Painter. It'll be interesting as
(49:25):
we get into the second half. Your lawyer there was
a lawyer had we've been subbed for and now he
comes back in with Jacari Harrison. That's what that was about.
So here we go. Tonjay's sideline rival inbound Badger's down
one twenty one point two left in the half inbounds,
passed to Carter Gilmore high on the right hands walked
(49:46):
with Jack jin Nikki let Church freshman out of White
Bear Lake, Minnesota, out between the circles. Twelve seconds left
and the half a throat of Tanjay five of the
shot clock. Tanjay gets doubled. Paul knock Loose got it.
Back turns, shoots a three off the rim, no good.
Breton Smith three added three seconds with two with one
half court heave Braden Smith that it's wide right, no good,
(50:06):
and we have hit halftime at mac Arena. Another good
matchup between these two proud and winning programs. And let's
see how the second half unfolds. We are through twenty
here in West Lafayette. It's Purdue thirty seven Wisconsin thirty six.
We're back with a halftime report for zeneby Kolvers. This
(50:28):
is Badger basketball from lear Field. We'll get ready for
the second half. Purdue thirty seven Wisconsin the thirty six.
If you just checking us out the Badgers, we'll go
to the rest of this game without Kamari McGhee hit
with a flagrant two running into a Trey Kaufman Wren
screen and after a long review, the common foul was
(50:51):
upgraded to a flagrant two. And it's one that has
a lot of folks who watch a lot of basketball
with no dog in this fight saying that was a
terrible call. Such as it is. Badgers have to play
on and butchi and they did it down by just one.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
We just say they did Matt That was the thing
we talked about.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
Asten Love, I said, removed the Wisconsin analyst role here
just as a basketball guy that then covers enough of this.
Didn't think it was the right call. That beats it.
They responded to it. They did what they needed to do.
It's a one point game. However, here are a couple
of things that I look.
Speaker 3 (51:22):
At with this game.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
You got two files by Steave Goal, two files by
Nolan Winston, two files by John Blackwall. How do they
handle this second half knowing it's going to be a
physical game, knowing.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
That the whizzle's probably gonna be a little bit tighter.
The other thing, fast.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Break points four Wisconsin, They've given up ten of them
to Purdue. They've given up ten of them. That was
the first thing we talked about. Limit the fast breakpoints,
the transition points by Purdue. They didn't do a great
job in the first half. Let's see if they can
tighten up in the second half.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
It was certainly the most polaring first half stat Right there,
Badgers get the first possession of the second half. Moving
to our right, Blackwell hands off the tan Jerry high
in the right each Max Klesman at the top of
the circle works off at Krow screen to the left
wing out to Steve Hee open three left of the circle.
Badgers take the lead. First points today for Stephen Krowe,
and it's thirty nine thirty seven Wisconsin. Opening minutes second half,
(52:13):
Boilermakers their first possession. Moving two hour left, Braydon Smith
sets it up against John Blackwell, high screen, Kaufman Wren,
stopping the dribble as Smith throwing to Kaufman, Wren flips
it right side for CJ. Cox and it pass intended
for Kaufman Renn it gets there, it was deflected at
first by Tanjay Now Kaufman Rehn backing on Blackwell turns
up right hand off the window and in.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
And that's where John having too. He's just wasn't gonna
be ultra physical.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
Then it's gonna be a tough matchup to begin with,
but we're right even tougher with those two fouls.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
You got switched and you can't get switched on to
that matchup. That's the problem.
Speaker 1 (52:45):
Hied At thirty nine a minute gone by second half,
Ton Jay High on the left whips at the crowd
top of the circle, high Low and the Winter won
Pumplo on the left, up and in winter. With ten
Badgers lead forty one to thirty nine. At fifteen into
the second half of play at macci Arena, Braydon Smith
walks into the front court, soft bounce Kaufmanrent left wing,
(53:08):
isolated on kraw Kauf Miran backing left shoulder, turned up
right and good again.
Speaker 3 (53:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:13):
Look, Purdue's gonna look to get cal Morn a little
bit more involved.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Only six shot attempts in our first.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Half, and it's many fishing. He is thirteen today. In
the first four of the second half of the Boilers
tied at forty one, Max Klesmant goes cross court, Tanjay
will catch left wing drives off the wing in the lane,
knocked away Smith foul cold on Braydon Smith. That'll be
his second first of the half on the Boilermakers. A
(53:40):
minute forty seven gone by second half, Badrews and Purdue
tied at forty one. Oh Smith pleating his case.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
Yeah, might have been a case deplete a lot of
ball there. There was a lot of ball there.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Blackwell baseline left, throws it into Crow cutting Winter in
the lane and got the all that's gonna be three
on Raydon Smith reaching in there and that is huge.
I about Nolan Winter with a good cut.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
Well and purduers switch that. So you the big should
be able to go to the front of rim. That's
what they've done this.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
Tournament.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
That's there cool a lot of ball there too.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
There was a lot of ball there too. But when
you go to the rim hort, that's what happens. You
put yourself in a situation to be able to get
to the free throw linement.
Speaker 1 (54:30):
Winter misses the first free throw. The Badgers remain the
best free throw shooting team in the country on a
record pace, an NCAA record pace, but just two to
five here so far. Today. Second free throw for Winter
is good forty two, forty one Wisconsin. We're not quite
two minutes into the second half. Smith stays in there
(54:51):
with that third foul. Early in half number two. Kauf
Venren catches left elbow, dribbles right lane, line down the lane,
runs it up and in caught Venn with six early
ones in the second half forty three, forty two the
Boilermakers that's been off the screen from Krow throws the
Winter d three left of the circle around the rim
and out, no good, bringing Smith the rebound, He'll turn
(55:11):
and bring it up the floor. Flips at the CJ.
Cox bounces Caleb first baseline right scoops to Smith of
the right wing operates against Tanja, throwing the Kaufman Ren
hands it back to Smith's loops at Kaufman Wren goes
to the gold lay up good. He stopping right now.
He has eighth in the second half, three point le
for the boiler Banker.
Speaker 2 (55:28):
And you knew he was gonna be a full Pullo
said he only had six shot atteps in that first half.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
It has been throwing an old in winter feeds Tanja
and the left wing forty five, forty two produce ton
Ja left corner.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
Three.
Speaker 1 (55:38):
He hit it and we're tied at forty five.
Speaker 3 (55:41):
That is such a tough shot.
Speaker 1 (55:43):
I mean, man, he said two of those today.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
Really, I mean he does it all year long, don't
get me wrong, but like that step bad, Like that's
such a tough shot.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
Kaufman ran against kraw right lane line, kicks at CJ.
Cox off the right wing, backing on Tanjay out Kaufman Ren.
Three minutes gone, second half, tied at forty five. Kauffman
Ren backing on Krawd backing kicks Cox left quarter three
is good second three per cj Cox forty eight forty
five Perdue. Three fifteen into the second half, Noel in
(56:12):
the winter throw it a Klesman on the right side,
Max feeding Winter wide pass knocked on the bounds, last
touch by Braydon Smith of Perdue.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
No offensively, you know, defensively, excuse me for Wisconsin offensively
purdues going to Kaufman red. Wisconsin defensively, just has has
some more bodies around him to try to make it
a little bit more difficult. He's scoring scoring last possession,
he saw him sprayed out for that three. Just have
to show some more bodies.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
To him, go more in. Wins out kraw left wing
throws to Tanja John driving to the line in the lane.
One pump squeezes through and scores off the glass. He
is fifteen forty eight to forty seven Perdue. Three and
a half minutes gone by second half of play. Smith
walks it through the mid cord logo as Blackwell defense
(56:56):
a bounce for Kaufman. Ren faces up top of the
foul circuit, hands it back to Smith, glides to the
right side at the free throw line, works left lane line.
Ten footer is through for Breton Smith. He has six
fifty to forty seven the Boilermakers. Four minutes into the
second half, Who's Max Klesban right side hooks to Gilmore
(57:21):
Badgers down three yearly second half of play, Tonjay steps back,
snaps off at three straight away tight game and one
falcon on Caleb first three point bucket for Tonjay had
a free throw coming up. When we come out.
Speaker 3 (57:36):
Of the timeout, kidsman's best woo.
Speaker 1 (57:39):
He is heating up in the second half, breaking the
action in West Lafayette. Brought to you by today's game.
Brought to you by Rail Transport offering exceptional transportation services,
truck driving jobs, CDL training is so much more across
wisconsint Larry Moore at Rael dot Jobs fifteen forty eight
remaining Wisconsin fifty per due fifty. This is Badger basketball
(58:01):
from lear Field, Hey Badger fansy. Wisconsin Pork Association reminds
you going to support a big farmer by purchasing pork
all year long. This is WPPA dot org for recipes
and information and horsepower to amplify your willpower capability to
kick start your courage their standard and built Ford tough
Ford trucks at Adventure ready for a SUVs visitor Wisconsin
(58:23):
Ford Store today fifteen forty eight remaining, Wisconsin fifty perdue
fifty and John Tanjay will be at the free throw
line in a moment.
Speaker 2 (58:32):
I mean, you look at defensively for Wisconsin right now,
they haven't been great produce running, some good action, but
offensively that's where Wisconsin's been so good. John Tanjay really
has taken over yet again and again. The level of
difficulty on the shots that John is making right now
is ridiculous. I mean, he's got eight points already in
(58:54):
the second half, two of two from three, got to
the bucket one last like just been really aggress of
an understanding that he's needing to do that.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
Tayla first with that foul that's his third Heighting is
on the floor for the Boilermakers. Badgers have Gilmore kraw
Klesman Blackwell, and at the foul line. John Tanjay a
ninety two percent free throw shooter. It's nine of ten
in the game at Iowa last Saturday, making a nine
in a row. After missing his first he connects on
(59:22):
this free throw and it's fifty one to fifty Wisconsin,
fifteen forty five remaining at MCI Arena of Braydon. Smith
will throw to Fletcher, Lawyer on the left wing. Lawyer
with Klesman on him, a throw to Smith out high,
slips at Kaufman around, kicks it. Lawyer fakes the three rhythm, Dribble,
takes the three and it's off the rimen over the glass.
Speaker 2 (59:43):
And great close out. I know, you know there's a
fly by situation there makes him put it on the floor.
It takes him out of the rhythm.
Speaker 1 (59:51):
There's Blackwell being bothered a bit in the back court
by C. J.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
Cox.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
John gets it across houses the crowd top of the circle.
One dribble, hands off the Blackwell, who has yet to
score here today. Klesman with a bounce to a curling
Tanjay down the lane to the cup. Lay yep, good
for Tonjay and he has twenty one points today, fifty
three to fifty Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:00:12):
With fifteen minutes till the go. I mean he's he's
been great.
Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
Smith with a bounce for Kaufman Wren right of the circle.
You hand off to Smith. Smith skips it. Lawyer catches
baseline left and the runner right hand off the rim
and out no good crowd. The rebound for Wisconsin outlet
the klesban right sideline to the front court is max height.
He is on Klesman. Now Krow wraps it Blackwell a
(01:00:37):
bump they play on. Smith went down open space Blackwell
for three and he splashed it first points today for
John Blackwell fifty six to fifty Wisconsin, fourteen and a
half minutes remaining. Smith brings it up for the Boilermaker's
high screen from Heidi and works off for Kaufman Wren
screen to the right side. Kills the dribble, looks for help,
(01:00:58):
finds Kaufman Ren off the left elk Bull bass up
now back to the basket, starts to back on Kraw
backing Kaufman Wren still backing in the lane, shakes left shoulder,
turned up right hand rattles out no good, Tonjay. The
rebound for Wisconsin fifty six fifty Wisconsin, fourteen oh five remaining,
Tonjay off the Krow screen. Tonjay going to work for
(01:01:18):
three off the back of the rim. No good or rebound. CJ.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Cox of Purdue, I mean you can't be mad with
that shot. Just by the way, he's doing. Now we
got another foul here.
Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Fouls in the lane, Steve, that's gonna be his third. Yep,
tied up in there, and that's three on Krow. He
comes out Winter and Janiki the winter is back in.
Janicki is in Blackwell will sit.
Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
Down, I said last three by John. If that goes in,
puts him on nine man and this place gets real quiet,
real quick. Now they've finally got to find a way
to get a stop here on this possession.
Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
Thirteen to fifty three to play six point Lee Wisconsin inbounds,
pass is deflected by Winter, gathered by Kaufman Wren a
hand off the Smith. Smith in the pink kicks at
Heidi right corner. Three short rebound. Janicki of Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
Here's your stop. Now get a good possession here.
Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
Offensively, here's Tonjay fakes the three drives off the left
wing in the lane, jump stop.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
Up and in.
Speaker 3 (01:02:12):
I would say that's a good possession.
Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
That's a real good possession. Time out, perdue, good work,
Tonjay off two feet, it's the bucket in the lane.
Boilermakers take a time out. This will be a full
time out. Wisconsin basketball. It brought to you by UW
Health Sports Medicine, the healthcare team for the Badgers and
proud sponsors of UW Athletics. Thirteen thirty four to play,
Wisconsin fifty eight per Due fifty. This is Badger Basketball
(01:02:36):
from lear Field. Apprehensive coverage of college basketball. Here a
serious six M Big ten Radio Channel three seventy two
in the car and they all news serious M half
get a free trial at SiriusXM dot com slash Big
ten Radio twenty twenty five. Eight point lead for Wisconsin
at fifty eight fifty over per Due thirteen thirty four
(01:02:59):
to play as he's eight out of ten second.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
It was just just what they're doing offensively. All they've
got to do is train a couple of stops together
for Due. We've talked about Wisconsin's defensivell they they've tightened
that up. Purdue defensively has not been good at all
in the second half. A lot of that's been what
Wisconsin does has done that last possession. It really is
is a crucial part of what this you know half
(01:03:24):
has been for Wisconsin. John Tanja had the three shot
bake putting on the floor, got to the pain. Yo
good to great. We hear that saying a lot. Well,
that's what Wisconsin's done offensive. They've had good shots. They've
turned those down for great shots.
Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
Those Braydon Smith up the floor waiting for him is
Jack JENNICKI you throwing a lawyer high on the left,
feats Cloff and the ren top of the circle. He's
checked by Nolan Winter and handle off the Smith glides
to the right side, bounces Cam Heidie wide open three
straight away is good. I've played a thirty percent shooter
from three and he's been ice cold in the last
five games, one of eleven. And that's a big three
(01:03:58):
point hit there for hiding in the The Maker's The
lead is five for Wisconsin. Janicky almost got his pocket pick.
They're working along the perimeter high on the left to
Max Klesman and a whistle off the ball in the lane.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
Fouls called Cam Heidi there, yeah, and it was just
encored Gilmore trying to roll in the basket.
Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
There was a lot of contact there and they blew
the whistle.
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
Thirteen oh two, remaining fifty eight to fifty three. Wisconsin
leads per Due. It's the fourteen foul on the boiler Makers.
Janicky Baseline left looking at inbound fines cutter Gilmour lower
on the left slam dunk. They get the quick hitter
as Gilmour flashing wide open inside.
Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
But it's the way that Purdue guards that action.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
They're gonna have those slips all the time for the
big in line out of bounce.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Sixty to fifty three Wisconsin. Kaufmin Ron right of the circle,
hands off the Smith with a shot fake from three
feeds hiding left of the wheel, turns it back to
Smith right of the circle. Jab step a throw to
Fletcher Lawyer and he throws one up. Thought he was
gonna get a foul call, didn't get the shot. Body's
on the floor and here comes Max Klesman. The other
way they play on now Max driving, and now they
(01:05:03):
stop play. It looked like at the other end they.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Called a foul down there. And I'll be honest here,
Carter Kilmore got away with a foul. It's stray coffin,
There's no question about it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
He had some carnage at one end of the floor
and then a foul at the other end. He want
a mess. Fletcher Lawyer called for that foul, his first
and the team's fifth twelve thirty to play sixty to
fifty three Wisconsin. Janicki baseline left, looking at inbound and
he'll throw it out high to Nolan Winter outside left,
(01:05:35):
puts it on the deck left of the lane, stops
mid posts, feeds Klusbann extra pass Janicky right quarter three.
It's off the rim, no good rebound Jakari Harris Love Purdue.
Harris off the coffin Ren's screen to the line in
the lane, hits the brakes, feed Smith extra pass, Hidie
left corner, Mack's midpost left, throws to Harris left of
the lane, cut off by Winter. As Harris circles back
(01:05:58):
out and try to shovel it inside, it gets kicked
by Winter. Shot clock bump to twenty. John Blackwell will
check in for Wisconsin, replacing John Tanjay, who has thirteen
of his twenty three points here in the second half.
Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
And he's really offensively given this team a nice shot.
I've got the.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Under twelve media coming up here. Twelve oh five remaining.
Smith baseline left, will inbound darts it in the Harris
took a look from three, now drives baseline left. Jenicky
cut him off with help from Blackwell. I'll throw out
the cocks feeding Smith. He drives kicks Cox open three
left side off the rim, no good Blackwell the rebound
eleven fifty two, remaining sixty to fifty three Wisconsin. Blackwell
(01:06:38):
to the front court Harris defending. Now Gilmour at the
top taps at the Klesban High on the right left
hand toss Winter feeding Janicky drives off the left wing
and throws it up. No good rebound Heidi up the floor,
comes Braydon Smith. Smith to the line. Smith left of
the lane, starts to bring it back out Klesban and
now Winter on the doubles. Smith gets at the Cox
(01:07:00):
extra pass Hidie right quarter three off the high or
no good Winter the rebound that led klesby seven point
lead Wisconsin eleven twenty remaining Max good. They're gonna get
Braden Smith trying to tap it away from behind. And
that's the fourth Thoul on Brayden Smith. As we have
the under twelve media timeout. The plot dickens here in
(01:07:21):
West Lafaiettes and Wisconsin. Deppointment of Transportation reminds you to
always drive sobers zero in Wisconsin. Together we can save lives.
Learn more than zero in Wisconsin. Dot go we'll step
away eleven eighteen remaining wisconsin sixty perdue fifty three. Back
in the moment, this is Badger basketball from lear Field.
(01:07:47):
Eleven minutes, eighteen seconds remaining Wisconsin's sixty perdue fifty three.
Let's clean something up. Everybody in the house, including Braydon Smith.
But that last foul is on him. It wasn't. It
was on Trey Kaufman Wren, who now has two fouls.
Brayden Smith remains at three. I mean Kaufman w Ren
put his hands on his head, going, oh my goodness,
(01:08:08):
he was trying to tap the ball away, but they
called it on Kaufman. Went one thing though, Butchi that's
team found number six against Purdue. Wisconsin has just won.
We still have eleven eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
Remained correct, and I think that's the one of these things.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
Now. DJ Carson was the one that called that foul first,
and Stephen Cles rolling in the basket, that's where the
contact happened. Right after that, that's where you got Braid
Smith tried to reach in and fil there too. So
obviously DJ had that foul happen first by Trey Kaufman
w Rehn. But I thought live that was on Braid
Smith just as much as everybody else did in this building.
Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
Jack Janicki on the floor along with nyx Plesbitt, John Blackwell,
Xavier Amus, and Nolan Winter and just joining us. The
Badgers without Kamar got hit with the flagrant two foul
of the first half, Wisconsin, putting up quite the fight
and leading sixty to fifty three. Long way to go
(01:09:04):
eleven eighteen to play. Blackwell's sideline rights willing bound to
Jenicky against Smith, throwing an amos ex gives it up.
The Klusman Max hiding the left against Harris Max to
the line in the lane.
Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
The floater is.
Speaker 1 (01:09:14):
Good, just like the semi finals of the Big Ten
Tournament last March sixty two fifty three, Wisconsin, eleven h
five remaining. Raydon Smith walks it front court for the Boilermakers.
Jack Jenicky in the defensive stands. Smith rocks the dribble,
fans out to the right side, hooks at the cam.
Heidi fakes the three, puts it on the deck, drives
the lane, wins it inside. Coffin Rent catches up, got
(01:09:37):
it and count it had a foul. Coughin Ren with
nineteen ten of those here in the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
And that's we just get a good cows basketball game
going on right now.
Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
I mean, Wisconsin's making plays, Purdue's coming down and their
answering just felt like if wiscons could have got another
stop there, maybe they could have found a way to
kind of I want to say, take the heart a
little bit of Purdue, but you just you could feel
that what is produded? Do they come down and they
give you a great answer.
Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
Foul is on Amos his first. Kaufman Wren with the
free throw, and it's good. A three point play for
the Boilermakers. Sixty two fifty six Wisconsin ten to fifty
remain it. Janicky up the floor for the Badgers against
Braydon Smith at the backcourt. Now he releases. Janicky breaks
the midstrid, throws to Amos high on the left, gives
it up the klesban Lesband off a high screen left
(01:10:26):
elbowl now retreats above the ark. Kaufman Ren is checking
him twelve. When the shock clock, Amos turns to Winsor
high on the right, tightly guarded by Miles Colden. Shock
clock is down to five. Here's mad Max for three
left of the circle. Back rim no good rebound tip.
Then it's run down by Blackwell John Off. The right
wing feeds Janicky throws to Amos hooks at the Klesman
(01:10:47):
high and the left tries on Kaufman.
Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
Wren goes to the gold got it cut it had
a foul, Mad Max.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
For the grown man take and he has an inn one.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
And that's what happens when you get an off fens
to rebound.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
The defenses shifted over all of a sudden leads for
a driving opportunity there by Max.
Speaker 1 (01:11:05):
They get Miles Colvin for the foul. That's his second
sixty four p. Fifty six, Wisconsin, ten thirteen remaining Klesband
eighty four percent free throw shooter, and he knocks it
down and the Badgers have matched their longest lead of
the day at nine points. And Nolan Nolins is limping,
(01:11:25):
favoring his right leg and Steven Krow's going to come
in for him. Sixty five fifty six, Wisconsin, with ten
minutes and thirteen seconds to play and Nolan slowly making
his way to the Wisconsin bench. Athletic trainer Brett new
brenton New excuse me, Brent Newhorth, hearts will take a
look at him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
Here comes Braydon Smith for the Boilermakers. Smith to the
line in the lane, hit the brakes, kicks it Colvin
left corner. These can Heidi, he'll penetrate in the paint.
He pivots in a tough spot. Good pass in the
Kaufman ran low on the left field, catch and finish.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
Just do really good.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
I'm from to say the Kim. But you see one
answer another answer. Now, if you're Wisconsin, you can't offensively
keep trying to put pressure.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
The one thing you want to avoid more than I think,
is to left for Do you have a run?
Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
Sixty five fifty eight, Wisconsin, with nine to forty three
to play. Amos high on the left for the Badgers,
throws the dribble, throws the blackwell along the left sideline,
tightly defended by Harris. He's really getting into him. John
turns the corner to the line, kicks Janicki right corner
three book it Jack Janicki with his second long ball.
Sixty eight to fifty eight Wisconsin, nine five to play.
(01:12:46):
Smith to the front court. Smith out between the circles.
Janicky defense Smith left hand ribble in the lane, throws
the Coffin Wren bobbles now gathers off the right elbow,
starts to back on. Kraw kicks it out the Colvin
top of the arc, refeats Kaufmin Wren, spinning in the lane,
goes up low on the right end end pretty move
inside Dray kaufin Ren sixty eight to sixty Wisconsin, with
(01:13:08):
nine minutes to play. Jack Janicky on the right side.
The real throw to Amos wraps at the Klesman bakes
the three macs off the wing knocked away dotted back
almost turned it over. Janicki rotates to Blackwell behind the
back on the dribble off the wing feeds. Max snaps
off the three left side short, no good long rebound.
Kauflin Wren, It's lose. Bat it around Blackwell trying to gather.
(01:13:31):
They got to tie up Arrow per Due eight thirty
seven remaining sixty eight to sixty Wisconsin. Tan Jay and
Gilmore will come in out Trey. Kauflin Ren is favoring
his right leg. Coaufin Ren in a lot of pain
(01:13:53):
as he goes over to the bench area. Caleb First
will come in Lawyer replacing Jakari Harris.
Speaker 3 (01:14:01):
Looks just like a cramp there for kaufmin Red.
Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
But now if you're Wisconsin, really load up to Braden Smith,
knowing that's where you know he's gonna try to really
attack this situation.
Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
Smith with six points in nine as sists so far
today he has the ball at the center circle, glides
off to the right side. Smith through a double team,
finds Hide in the right corner, throwing to Fletch your lawyer,
curls off the wing in the lane, ran in the crow,
kicks to Colvin. Colvin to the line, and the paint
up over. Tanjay off the him no rebound, tapped and
snapped away by Gilmore of Wisconsin eight ten, remaining eight
(01:14:36):
point lead for the Badgers. Tanja off the krow screen,
Tanjay baseline right, steps back, goes to work again in
a double team and trouble finds Janicky let quarter three
dot it. Oh my goodness, Hella, Jack Janicki seventy one
sixty Wisconsin, seven point fifty remaining, and why.
Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
Is he in this game?
Speaker 3 (01:14:57):
This is Kamara McGee's minnets. Right now. You talk about
being ready for your moment.
Speaker 1 (01:15:03):
Jack Janicki is ready. Here's Caleb first at the top
of the circle, scoops at the Braydon Smith high in
the right, Smith against Kraus Ball against the big end
of first low and left, goes up blocked, but a
foul and this will be assessed to quarter Gilmore. That'll
be his second is we're at the underage media timeout.
Jack Janicki with eleven points, helping Wisconsin to an eleven
(01:15:28):
point lead, We'll take a break. With over thirteen hundred
slot machines and a ninety five percent average payout, hoache
John Gaming Madison is your hometown.
Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
Big win.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
Make your next night out a winning one at hoch
John Gaming Madison. Seven point thirty two to play Wisconsin
seventy one perdue sixty. This is Badger basketball from lear Field.
A couple hours before today's game, talking with some Purdue quotes,
in one in particular said, you know what the Purdue
coaches who are really they're really impressed with on the
(01:15:57):
Wisconsin roster. Thinking it would be Blackwell or Tanjay, they said,
Jack Jennicki, so he could be the next really good
player for Wisconsin. I'll be honest about it. Going into
the Iowa game, I thought he had hit a wall.
Jack hit a big three in that game against the Hawkeyes.
He's hit three threes today, a career best eleven points today.
Remember he had nine back in November against Arizona. Right now,
(01:16:19):
Wisconsin leads produced seventy one to sixty, was seven thirty
two remaining.
Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
And I even wrote up my notes and said play
of Jack Nick just when Kamari McGee, you know, came out.
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
They made that run because of what he kind of
brought to the game.
Speaker 1 (01:16:33):
They looked first at the free throw line short with
the first throw as Trey Kaufman a ren novel check
back in for Camden hiding.
Speaker 2 (01:16:39):
Now you know Purdue's going to have a run.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Oh yeah, you do.
Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
So how do you handle that? How do you handle that?
That wave It's going to happen at some point.
Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
First of sixty four percent free throw shooter hits the second,
so he gets a split ten point lead Wisconsin, and
now John Blackwell with a lot of the better defenders
around Braydon Smith on him, he will released. Blackwell brings
them across left side of the front court. Seventy one
sixty one Wisconsin, seven twenty remaining. Crow top of the
arc throws to Janicky on the right wing. He's with
(01:17:07):
lawyer refeeding. Crowd turns to Blackwell high on the left
ten of the shot clock. Blackwell retreats near the center
circuit choclock at five high screen crowd, Blackwell left side
three on the way, Well short, JANICKI trying to say
through it away into the hands of Miles Covid, and
here comes Braydon Smith feeds. Lawyer makes the three left
of the lane, scoops it up left hand. No, but
(01:17:27):
he drew the contacts, so he just threw it up
there and they'll get the foul on Stephen.
Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Crowell, that's gonna miss fourth yep.
Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
And then Nolan Winter, who limped off a little while ago.
It's ready to come back in flet your lawyer at
the foul line seventy one sixty one Wisconsin Lawyer today
three of four at the foul line. The Boilermakers are
twelve of seventeen. First free throw is good. As a team,
they haven't been great at the foul line seventy two
(01:17:55):
and a half percent seventy three percent and big ten
play certainly not bad but not.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
Great, but not great.
Speaker 1 (01:18:01):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
Eleventh in the league.
Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
Lawyer with eleven points Mega twelve. As he gets both
three throws, Lawyer will come out.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
Cox is in winter in for Krow seventy one sixty
three Wisconsin, six fifty seven to play and bounced past
to Blackwell. No more Radi to set a screen if needed.
I'll throw it at Gilly across the mid straight ribble,
hand off to Tanja High on the left, Tanjay against
Caleb first Tonjay steps back, now throws the Winter, turns
(01:18:33):
it to the Janicki on the right side. Shake springs
it up top, throwing to Gilmore ten to shoot. Tanja
High on the left, cold and defense. One pump and
a slip into.
Speaker 2 (01:18:42):
Blackwell and the right throws it up and in just
solid basketball, I mean just solid basketball.
Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
Overplay back door seventy three sixty three Wisconsin six' twenty remaining,
Smith High on the left, dribbles to the top of
the arc, off to Colvin, refeeds Smith. Janicki defends Smith
in the lane, darts at Caleb first. He'll hand off
the covin mid range right wing off the rim, no
good or rebound first had it now Cox does out
(01:19:09):
to Colvin. He'll try a three good miles Colvin and
twenty nine percent shooter from three HiT's a big one
seventy three sixty six Wisconsin five point fifty five Orman,
and that gets the crowd going, Let's see what kind
of answer The Badgers have Janicki high on the right
and a high pass Winter and it knocked away by
(01:19:31):
Smith and out of bounds to Wisconsin with thirteen to shoot,
and Max Klesman will check back in five point forty
five to place seventy three sixty six Wisconsin. Plesman in
Janicki outs.
Speaker 2 (01:19:43):
Now, remember Wisconsin's gotten that slipped to the front of
the rim on the in line out of bounds here.
Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
They're going to not take that away, but watch that
three and then.
Speaker 1 (01:19:50):
Bounds past Winter feeds Max left side ten to shoot,
Plesband against Colvin to the lion and a bump and
a foulon that gets Wisconsin in the bonus. It's cold
as Max Klesman goes down hard. That painter is not happy. Ooh,
(01:20:10):
Caleb First was in there and again at are got
break for the old fight and Badgers and that foul
on Caleb First is his fourth. That's your lawyer coming
in for CJ. Cox five thirty nine, remaining seventy three
sixty six Wisconsin. So Klesman at the line. He is
(01:20:32):
one of one today, twelve points for Max this afternoon.
This is a one and one and the front end
is good. This is where the best free throw shooting
team in America is to maintain that status, Badger's six
of nine now to date still five thirty nine remaining.
Badgers have two fouls to give. If you're wondering, second
(01:20:54):
free throw is good for Klesband seventy five sixty six Wisconsin,
five point thirty eight remaining. Here comes Braydon Smith. He'll
walk it through the mid court logo high screen, Kaufman
Wren Smith left lane line one, pump pivots and a
foul in the lane. They'll get Kilmore, I think against
Kaufman Wren Bitt tighter.
Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
Tighter's correct, yes three.
Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
Young Gilly. Now on the team's fifth five point twenty
eight to play nine point lead Wisconsin. Smith baseline left,
will throw it in, looking and looking and lobs it
out to Kaufman re at the left point. Kauffman ran
against Gilmore, hands off the Smith turns a corner free
throw line into Kaufman. Iran in the paint darts and
(01:21:41):
flet to Fletcher Lawyer for three right corner and Drillsey
Seventy five sixty nine, Wisconsin. With five twelve to play,
Black roll to the front court for the Badgers. Black
Well out between the circles. Calmly gets it in motion.
John left of the lane, out Winter, Nolan inside, Gilmore
(01:22:03):
mid post right, Carter back out to Winter ten to shoot.
Klesman high on the right. Hawkin Ren is on him.
Max puts it on the deck, locks the dribble to
the line, flips it inside to Jay Slam dunkle. Oh,
great delivery to Tanjay.
Speaker 3 (01:22:17):
He is twenty five and just solid basketball. If your
player loses vision of you, what do you do?
Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Cut to the rim.
Speaker 1 (01:22:25):
Seventy seven sixty nine, Wisconsin. Four and a half minutes remaining,
Smith throwing to Kaufman Wren top of the circle. Kaufman
Ren operates against Carter Gilmore. He's isod on a backing
not to Wake Gilmore and swats it right to Greg
guard out of bounds. With twelve to shoot for twenty
three to play. Badger's up seventy seven to sixty nine
(01:22:49):
and all the way in the back court, Fletcher Lawyer
will inboundy looking and he'll toss it in to Smith.
Smith across half court, tend to shoot Smith against black Well.
Smith pounding the dribble left of the lane. Smith fade
away air ball caught week side by Tanjay with four
ten remaining him.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
Uh, John Blackwell, My goodness, what a defensive individual performance there.
Speaker 1 (01:23:14):
Here's Tanjay baseline right, peels it back out to Winter
at the right point. Now Gilmour wraps to Blackwell high
on the left. Three fifty five to play, twelve to shoot.
Badger's up eight Blackwell to the line.
Speaker 4 (01:23:26):
Blackwell in the lane, hanging goes up better, John Blackwell,
what's seven here in the second half?
Speaker 1 (01:23:33):
Seventy nine sixty nine Wisconsin, three forty two remaining. Here's
Brayden Smith walks it across half court for the boiler
Maker's high screen Kaufman Wren. Smith's lips it in kaffin
Ren ten foot in the lane is good Seventy nine
seventy one Wisconsin, with three twenty five remaining. Lenning your
(01:23:54):
role as Blackwell, and now he'll bring it up. Blackwell
being bothered by Smith and just break in the midstripe
is Blackwell left side driving reverse layup is good. John
Blackwell gives the Badgers a ten point lead again three
ten to play. Eighty one seventy one Wisconsin. No Blackwell
fired up out there. Here's Smith hi on the ride
(01:24:16):
of screen from Kaufin Wrenz. Smith moving to his left,
feats Colvin right. Quarter three is good for do not
going away? Eighty one seventy four Wisconsin, with two fifty
two remaining, who has two timeouts available? The Badgers have three.
Wisconsin has the possession row seven point lead. Wisconsin two
(01:24:37):
forty to play. Klesband right of the center circle. Let
your lawyer defend shock clock at ten Klesman trying to
direct some traffic. Shock clock is down to five max
to the line. Mask got tied up and a foul
is called. WHOA, there was a position that was going
nowhere under four media timeout and a free throw one
(01:25:02):
on one coming up. When play continues, pleas been trying
to squeeze through lawyer, and first we'll sort it all out. First,
we'll tell you to twenty nine to play Wisconsin eighty
one produce seventy four. This is Badger basketball from lear
Field Ty to pick today's Old Dominion Best of the game.
PRONTI my old Dominion freightline. Old Deminion freightline works hard
(01:25:24):
to be the best of the game, and there's proud
to be the official freight carrier of Wisconsin Athletics. We'll
put you John Tanja twenty five points, doing great work
in the second half, and you mentioned it, Jack should
be eleven points when they have dearly needed him without
Kamari McGeoy.
Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
Yeah. I mean you just look at those guys and
then how all of a sudden John Blackwell, and you
just like this has been one of those great great
games because guys have stepped up when their numbers been
called and throughout it. It's not like it's been one
of those where all right, this guy's on a heater,
just throw the ball and get out of the way. No,
John Tanti to start the second half was electric. You
(01:26:01):
look at Jack Janicki coming in, he banged a big three,
and the first half then came into the second half
after John Todjik cooled off a little bit, he banged
two threes.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Then you look at how this thing.
Speaker 2 (01:26:11):
Closed out with John Blackwell just finding a way to
get a defensive stop and then attack it and being
really aggressive in what he's needed to do.
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
Purdue has one home court lost this season. That was
on January twenty first to Ohio State seventy three to seventies.
There will a lot of work to do here for Wisconsin.
Two minutes and twenty nine seconds to play the Badger's
eighty one the Purdue Boilermakers seventy four and a one
to one will be coming up for Max Klesbant when
(01:26:44):
play resumes. That last foul is on Caleb First. He
fouls out and finishes with five points. Cam Heidi on
the floor one with Colvin Lawyer, Kaufman, Red, and Smith.
The Badgers have Gilmore Winter, Tan j Blackwell, and at
the free throw on Max Klesmant, who has fourteen points today,
He's three of three at the foul. Lie front end
(01:27:05):
of the one and one is straight through. Eighty two
seventy four Wisconsin sacond free throw coming up for Klesman
Senior out of Nina Eyes the rim free throw airborne
around an out no good Lawyer the rebound eighty two
seventy four of the Badgers two twenty five remaining. Smith
(01:27:27):
to the front court. He has eleven dimes here today.
Smith high in the right, throwing a Lawyer between the circles,
turns to Colvin left of the wheel, bounce past Coffin
Ren left of the lane, backing on Winter, Chase goes
hangs up and out, but a foul going Nolan Winter
getting Jost Wisconsin bench really upset YEA, well, benches have
(01:27:49):
been upset by the way.
Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
Correct Now.
Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
I thought that could have been before, I said, Trey
Coffin Run does a really good job of using that
shoulder and not half the offense file that looked like
there was more of a chicken wing of more of
the album to create the space. I could have seen
that goal the other way. Now they weren't gonna call
it with two twelve left.
Speaker 1 (01:28:06):
Butvlon Nolan is his third. Kaufman Ren shoots two and
he is good with the first. How good has this
guy been this season? And even better here of late
for the boiler Makers. Twenty seven points for him today,
eighteen in the second half, eighty two to seventy five
Wisconsin two twelve to play, second free throw, Trey Kaufman
(01:28:26):
Wren on the way and good. Now the Badgers lead
is six and Produe is showing pressure. Now is in
wanting to end bout his Gilmore enough that available time
out Wisconsin Badgers had three to burn. They use one
of them now or that let's pause ten seconds or
station identification ten for an ID. There's just Badger basketball
(01:28:46):
from lear Field. All right, your game reset. Two minutes
twelve seconds to play. Wis consint eighty two perdue seventy six.
The next Purdue foul will have Wisconsin and the double bonus.
The next Wisconsin foul have Purdue in the one and
one and the possession arrow belongs to Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:29:04):
And if you're Wisconsin right now, obviously in line out
of bounds, you got to inbound the ball. That's the
first thing. Do that, knowing that Purdue is going to
try to make it difficult, but then trap it. So
be secure with your passes and understand you know where
you want to go with the basketball.
Speaker 1 (01:29:22):
Gilmore will throw it in. He's got Blackwell, Plesmet Winter,
and Tanjay. He can roam the baseline talking about Gilmore.
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
Here.
Speaker 1 (01:29:33):
Six point lead for the Badgers. Two minutes twelve seconds
to play. Cam Heidi is in the face of Gilly
shuffles left end bounds to Blackwell. Single coverage from Braydon
Smith Blackwell up the floor across half court of the
right side. He'll throw to Gilmore between the circus quarter
feet and it's to play Black or Tanjay Rather throws
(01:29:55):
to Gilmore high on the left Feet's Klesbant left side,
drives off the wing, goes to the gold revers leg yep,
no but a foul. Good take from Max Klesman is
he crashes to the floor again and now he'll shoot
two free throws with a minute fifty four to play.
Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
And this is where Max has been really good last
couple of minutes. Knowing that Purdue wants to be ultra
aggressive around the perimeter, still ripping go They can't stay
in front of you because they're trying to prussure you.
So if you rip and go with that, now all
of a sudden you've got the front step. Gives you
the advantage.
Speaker 1 (01:30:23):
Ray Kaufman around the foul. His third first free throw
is good for Klesman. Eighty three seventy six.
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Wisconsin, Well, Wiscoons has been so good at here in
the last three four minutes. Is Purdue's had some stuff offensively,
but they haven't Wisconsin has not let them get out.
Speaker 1 (01:30:37):
Of run second free throws straight in for Max eighty
four to seventy six Wisconsin. A minute fifty three o'clock
running remaining at back the arena, Raydon Smith out high
Smith right of the lane, throws at the Heidi right corner,
feeds Fletcher Lawyer weaving right elbow past deflected. It's loose,
stolen by Blackwell, and Blackwell brings it up the floor.
(01:30:59):
Smart decision there he had Tonjay streaking, but Blackwell, so
let's burn some time down in ninety seconds. Here's Max
throwing to Tanja left corner out to the wing is tars.
Smart had just bleeding the clock fifteen to shoot, minute
twenty four to play Blackwell at the center circle, one
twenty to play, ten to shoot Blackwell against COVID. Blackwell
high on the left, driving left of the lane.
Speaker 4 (01:31:21):
Pulls pops off the classen end for Blackwell.
Speaker 1 (01:31:25):
Eighty six seventy six, Wisconsin, with one o seven remaining,
Smith out high, Smith slips it in Coffin ren turns
at COVID, stamps off at three left corner. Good again
Miles Colvin with nine timeout perdue with exactly one minute
to play. Eighty six seventy nine Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (01:31:45):
That bank must be open because there's a lot of
people walking down the steps to go to the bank.
I think I don't know if that John Blackwell Bake said,
reminded so many people like, hey, the bank.
Speaker 3 (01:31:54):
Pulls is at four. I don't know what happened there
for walking down the stairs.
Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
Right now, Miles Colvin's saying not so fast hitting that
left corner three. He has three threes today. He averages
five points a game. We mentioned just a twenty nine
percent three point shooter coming in. But he's trying to
keep Purdue alive one minute remaining eighty eating perdue.
Speaker 2 (01:32:20):
What I've been really impressed with Matt though, is understanding, right,
they could have taken more threes than the second half,
But what have they done in the last four minutes?
Speaker 3 (01:32:30):
They put the ball on the deck and they drove.
Speaker 1 (01:32:32):
Both teams have gotten work done in the paint. Wisconsin
thirty six points of the paint to produce thirty four.
So you got Gilmore, Winsor Blackwell, Klesband, and Tanjay out
there for Wisconsin. CJ. Coxkary Harris cammed in, Heidi Braydon
Smith and Miles Colvin. The five of the floor for
(01:32:53):
the boiler Makers. Bill mor will inboun again, he can roam.
He's got Heidi in his grill. One pass, bake Upling
left Gilmore and nothing their time out Wisconsin. So now
both teams are with one time out remaining possessionaire Row Wisconsin.
(01:33:13):
Badger's up by seven.
Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:33:17):
I thought it could be fun.
Speaker 3 (01:33:19):
Wow, he did, and we'll go back a little bit right.
Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
Kamara McGee gets ejected from the game, and this group
had a chance to kind of make a decision. And
I thought jad JANICKI came in and whether that first
storm and then they started to kind of get back
to this. I thought getting it back to one point, yeah,
down to half time was crucial, Yes, because it had
a chance to go the other way. Now, this group
(01:33:43):
has been through a lot, and I think that's where
the experience and the calmness of just understanding the moment
really took over for this group.
Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
Wisconsin is eighteen of twenty five from the floor in
the second half, produce pretty good too, six or fifteen
of twenty five some lights out, offensive work and now
trying to finish the deal. Sixty seconds remaining eighty six
seventy nine Wisconsin Badgers go and struggling to show a
(01:34:18):
little football mode, and there's a long pass Gillmore in
the post pattern Nolan Winner don A Laney got faed
by Miles Colvin. Oh how about that free throws coming up?
Badgers now win the double bonus. Greg Garden wanted the flagrant.
He want to take it easy there, don't chirp too much.
You have fifty nine point six seconds remaining to get
Miles Colvin for the foul, and they looks like they
(01:34:40):
are going to take a look here for a potential flagrants.
That was a nice little pass on that post pattern.
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
It was absolutely Now the question I have for you
is it's a seven point lead. Does that ball get thrown?
If it's a three point game? Oh, I'll answer that. No,
I don't think it does. Go s. I don't think
it does. But being up by seven with the minute left,
you've got a little bit of a wiggle room, and
I think that's exactly what happened there, and because of that,
(01:35:09):
you do throw that pass. And I don't know why
we're reviewing this, I'll be completely honest, though I know
Greg is asking for it.
Speaker 1 (01:35:16):
Well, if it's just a shove from behind. I think
it's what he's probably just he's trying a campaign was
at an actual basketball player, for sure, I get I
get what I would but I but again, it's is
gonna It took a while in the first half and
ended up being a flagrant too on Kamari McGhee, which
nobody agreed with your watches outside of the Purdue fans,
(01:35:37):
which I get that even Purdue fans do.
Speaker 3 (01:35:40):
It wasn't a flagrant took.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
But they accepted it. And at the same time, and
you and I have talked about it, Wisconsin is There've
been a lot of calls that have gone Wisconsin's way
here in the second for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:35:51):
Why had they gone their way? It's because Wisconsin's been
more aggressive Tea absolutely right. Like the foules that have
gone their way, I've been, Wisconsin's been attacking.
Speaker 3 (01:36:00):
You're not going to get calls if you just sit
and pass the paul around the priber.
Speaker 1 (01:36:06):
Fifty nine point six seconds to play, Wisconsin eighty six,
produce seventy nine and while the officials continue to look
at the monitor, Matt Painter getting your free bee time out.
Greg Guard wants his guys over there. He's got three
of them talking with DJ Carsonson right now, just just
(01:36:27):
a conversation. Now Greg brings them over, says, I want
that extra time out too. For the record, both teams
have one time out available.
Speaker 3 (01:36:39):
I again, I know Greg.
Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
Why Greg would not I would ask for it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:43):
Yeah, I think as a coach, you do. I don't like.
Speaker 5 (01:36:47):
I thought the five seconds.
Speaker 2 (01:36:50):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:36:51):
They also adjust the game clock there too. It's showing
fifty eight point three. I thought they were asking for
fifty eight point five. It's not a four. But he
got Nolan Winter at the line. Now the Badgers are
in the double bonus. That was team found number ten
Land today one out of two at the ful Liemega
two out of three. As he makes the first, Warrior
(01:37:11):
and Kaufman Ren are in. Heidi and Harris are out
eighty seven to seventy nine, Wisconsin fifty eight point three
seconds to play Winter with twelve points this afternoon. Second
free throw off the rim and out no good rebound,
c J. Cox the eight point lead, Wisconsin, fifty five
seconds to play. Smith throwing a Lawyer high on the
left and going to Kaufman are in top of the circle,
(01:37:34):
hands off the Smith fans to the left side not
a forty five seconds Smith left of the lane, goes
to the goal.
Speaker 4 (01:37:39):
Show blocked by Gilmore into the hands of John Tanjay.
Had a foul in the back court Gillie James with
the big defensive play for a Wisconsin.
Speaker 3 (01:37:50):
It was in the first half.
Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
He had another big block in the game as well.
He's been an ultra aggressive again.
Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
And the foulon CJ. Cox. With forty point nine seconds
to play, eighty seven seventy nine Wisconsin, John Tanjay twenty
five points today and he will shoot two. The first
free throw is good, nothing but net. Only the second
(01:38:21):
free throw attempt of the day for Tanjay. He averages
six and a half tries per eighty eight seventy nine Wisconsin.
Second free throw Tonjay will bounce in eighty nine seventy
nine Wisconsin. Down to thirty eight seconds remaining. Here comes
Smith kicks at Covin right corner three not this time
(01:38:42):
rebound battle for Coffin. Ran had it turns upright hand
rolls in for him and a time out taken by Perdue.
With twenty eight point four seconds to play eighty nine
eighty one Wisconsin. That's the final timeout for the Boilermakers.
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
Just can't talk enough about how good this response was
from the first half, big time. I mean, they had
a choice, and just based on the way that the
DNA is of this team is, they were gonna respond.
They have some adversity and they were gonna respond. I
(01:39:20):
didn't have doubt, but I didn't think they were respond
like this right Like.
Speaker 1 (01:39:25):
Yeah, it was a game that I was concerned might
get away in the first half up nine including thirty five,
twenty six, you're out, you're missing Kamari McGee off the
flagrant two but you mentioned a couple of minutes ago.
But you getting to within one at the half. They
thought that was into it was massive.
Speaker 3 (01:39:42):
Yeah, I thought that was a big part of this.
Speaker 2 (01:39:45):
Going in the locker room and then you go in
there and you see Kamari right like, because he's already
kicked out of the game, he's in there, but you
know it's a one point game, you're feeling confident in
what you can do.
Speaker 3 (01:39:56):
Like it just really did the the response of this group.
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
We've talked a lot about them being a special group,
but yet all their losses have been against really good teams. Absolutely,
so were they gonna get over that help beating a
really good team. I thought the Arizona team, you know
that that win was looking better and better. But at
that time was Arizona great? No, no produce good produce,
really good. This is a great win.
Speaker 1 (01:40:23):
Arter Gilmore will inbound. He's got John Blackwell wide left,
Max Klesband slot left, a little football terminology inbounds pass
to Tanjay trying to trap him, and he's trying to
squeeze through it, and he has fouled. He had Kaufman
w Renn and Jakari Harris there and Tanjay will get
two more foul shots with twenty five seconds to play.
Eighty nine eighty one. Wisconsin fell on Kaufman w Renn
(01:40:47):
is his fourth. And this is about as quiet as
it gets here at Macki Arena.
Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
The only time was a little bit quieter when Zach
Moore earlier about seven three.
Speaker 3 (01:40:58):
Now it also was a blizzard and it yeah, so
there was nobody here to.
Speaker 1 (01:41:02):
Start, but yeah, that broke the street. First free throw
is good. Before that night, the Badgers hadn't won year
since nineteen seventy two. They won here three years ago.
Johnny Davis went off. Second free throw for Tanjay is good.
Ninety one to eighty one Wisconsin with twenty five seconds remaining,
Rayton Smith weave into the front court, fakes the three throws,
(01:41:25):
the Kaufman ren out, the Smith takes the three. It's
off the back of the rim. No good rebound Tonjay
of Wisconsin and he has found in the back court
by Cox. With fourteen point six seconds to play and
the Badgers are up by ten.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
The Badger's gonna have a great flight home, is what
They're gonna have. Just a great, great performance.
Speaker 1 (01:41:48):
This is one that's gonna open up a lot of
eyes as people who followed Wisconsin knows this is a
good team. Now everybody else is gonna say, hey, what
about these guys. First free throw is good for Tanjay.
Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
I'll just say this, I will you watch enough college
game to Eric Rowley showed me a picture of how
all the analysts there decided they were gonna pick Purdue
with the win. Oh that's a that's an Olpher. Yeah,
that's an Opher.
Speaker 1 (01:42:14):
Swinging and I miss free throw good for Tanjay. Ninety
three eighty one Wisconsin, fourteen point six seconds remaining, Lesmen out,
Janicki in, Raiden Smith up the floor, gets a screen
from Kaufman ren feeds, Cox tries a three right side
and hit it. Ninety three eighty four Wisconsin, nine point
(01:42:36):
eight seconds to play Tanja fout in the back court
by Miles Colvin, John Tanjay. We mentioned he han't been
shooting many free throws. He's gonna end up with nine
attenths today. He's seven of seven so far with.
Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
The with the quiet thirty three, now thirty one. I'm
assuming these just go in based on the way he
shoots it. But another game from John Tanja that again
you go back to the USC game.
Speaker 3 (01:42:59):
Was hell scoreless? Wasn't pouting?
Speaker 2 (01:43:01):
Was it just all right? How do I keep rolling?
How do we keep doing this? Finding it within the offense?
And that's what he's done. And just again you got
to credit Greg and staff for finding a guy that
really not a lot of people thought could do this
at this level.
Speaker 1 (01:43:15):
Made the first and he is short, went the second.
Eight seconds left, ninety four to eighty four, Wisconsin, Cox frontcourt,
right side with three Cox tries to three rattles out,
no good Blackwell the rebound and the Wisconsin Badgers come
into Maci Arena and take down Perdue by ten and
look who is in the thick of the Big Ten Chase,
(01:43:37):
the Wisconsin Badgers as they defeat Purdue ninety four to
eighty four.
Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
You can use every word possible, gutsy, excellent, whatever you
want to throw out with this team. But they find
a way to continue to just keep winning, and they
keep their head down and they keep working and they
represent what Wisconsin about the state.
Speaker 3 (01:44:01):
Right. I had bored, like, this is the way you
do it.
Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
There's gonna be adversity, there's gonna be things that don't
go your way. You just keep your head down and
you keep plowing away at things. And that's what this
group does, and.
Speaker 1 (01:44:12):
It sets up one heck of a matchup on Tuesday
night at the Cole Center. Come out and join us.
This team's pretty good, this team being the Wisconsin Badgers
Tuesday night, seven point thirty Wisconsin against Illinois. We'll let
these guys be happy about today for a few hours.
First fun one we thought it might be.
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
It was well and again, you know, we kind of
said in a lot, but getting this game to one
at halftime I thought was so important what this team
was gonna be able to do. And offensively they put
up ninety four. I said with about four minutes left,
Purdue's gonna have a run. No, Purdue didn't have a run,
a run, And why didn't they have a run? It
(01:44:54):
wasn't because they weren't making plays on the offensive end.
But Wisconsin continued to make plays off offensively on their side.
And I go back to two big plays, two huge
plays that when you rewatch the game, they're not gonna
be big plays, but they're big plays in this moment.
Back door cut by John Blackwell for a layup, back
door cut by John Tanjay for a layup, went offensively
(01:45:18):
shot clocks running down, they didn't have anything. It was
gonna be a bad possession, which then means a bad shot,
which that's how Purdue could have possibly got some runs. No,
John Blackwell, back door, John Tanjae backdoor.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
Lay up, layup. Purdue never could get on a run
because of plays like that.
Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
This crowd tried to will and back in. After a
couple of big three point hits for the boiler Makers,
the Badger's time and again had the answer. Final score
Wisconsin ninety four Perdue eighty four. We're back with the
Wisconsin Ford Dealers post game show. In a couple of minutes.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field. It was coonsin.
Badgers shoot sixty one and a half percent for the field,
(01:45:56):
seventy two percent in the second half. Come into West
Lafayette him We'll go home with a ten point win.
Wisconsin ninety four per Due eighty four. But you we
talked about Braiden Smith before the game. He had twelve
assists today he was just two at ten.
Speaker 2 (01:46:14):
He was very uncomfortable, and I thought that might be
the case with Wisconsin's guards, and but there was another
We talked about a couple of plays offensively while they
could never get comfortable.
Speaker 3 (01:46:23):
Purdue was making a pat I'm not even.
Speaker 2 (01:46:25):
Gonna call it a run, but Carr Gilmore knocks the
ball out, goes to great guard twelve seconds on the
shot clock, which means now, all of a sudden, they
gotta go. What happens John Blackwell Braiden Smith one on one,
John Blackwell locked him up. He was uncomfortable that entire possession.
He was uncomfortable in the entire game. And I think
a lot of that is because they could put a
(01:46:46):
couple of different guards on him. Whether it was Jack Janicky,
whether it was John Blackwell, there was enough players that
were able to make him uncomfortable.
Speaker 1 (01:46:54):
Yeah, you mentioned Blackwell because I mean, obviously Tanja thirty
two points. Jack Janicky was so huge. John black Well
did not score in the first half. You have the
two thousand and man. They got to find a way
to get him going. He had eleven in the second half.
You just mentioned this defensive war.
Speaker 2 (01:47:07):
I mean really impressive. I mean again, I've used that
word a lot, but wow, Like, this team is really good.
We've said it a while and on board it's it's
all right, come on for that room.
Speaker 1 (01:47:18):
We'll make room. He'll make it real good.
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
But they've been a group, fun group because of their
death more than anything. You don't know who's night it's
gonna be. We've seen a Carter Gilmore game. We've seen
a Jack Jeneka game. We've seen a John Tons, we
saw John Blackwell and Nolan Winter, Stephen Crawl. I mean,
the list of Max Klusman, I mean, the list list
goes on and on as far as guys that have
had their moments. I think that that is why this
team is so good. And it's win number twenty for
(01:47:41):
the Wisconsin Badgers. They're now twenty and five overall, ten
and four in Big Ten Conference play. Wisconsin ninety four
per Due eighty four. More of our Wisconsin fort Dealers
post game shows coming up. This is Badger Basketball from
lear Field, Wisconsin. Forty Dealers post games show continues from
West Lafaette, Indiana, where the Wisconsin Badgers for the sixth time.
Speaker 1 (01:48:05):
In program history. I've come into this building and have won.
It's hard to do for any opponent, and the Badgers
get it done here today ninety four to eighty four,
and they go the majority of this game without a
guy who is a six Man of the Year candidate
and Kamari McGee With more than six and a half
minutes left in the first half, he was trying to
fight through a screen from Trey kaufin Rehn and it
(01:48:29):
was a hard collision and McGhee was assessed a flagrant two,
so his day was done. At the time, the Badgers
were down twenty seven to twenty two. They trailed by
as many as nine on a couple of occasions, but
in his absence, Wisconsin fought back. Jack Jinnicki five points
in the first half. He added six more in the second.
(01:48:49):
Purdue let it the break thirty seven to thirty six,
but Wisconsin in the second half knocked down eighteen of
twenty five shots overall, six of twelve from three, and
sixteen of twenty from the free throw line. Overall, Their
foul shooting was below their standards, they were eighteen of
twenty four, but they got there and knocked down plenty
(01:49:11):
there at crunch time and route to this ten point win.
The Boilermakers shoot fifty two percent from the field forty
five percent from three. They shot it well as well,
in sixteen of twenty one at the free throw line.
Purdue ends up a plus two in the glass. But
in a game like this with two really good teams
just haven't added Purdue with twenty one assists on the
(01:49:32):
twenty nine buckets. Wisconsin had eighteen dimes on thirty two
field goals, and there were a combined seven turnovers, four
for Purdue just three four Wisconsin paint points were even
at thirty six. We mentioned but you mentioned in the
first half, Purdue had ten fast break points, ten more
than Wisconsin did in fact, but in the second half
(01:49:55):
that level off. The Boilermakers only two fast break points
in the second half and Wisconsin in it up with
eight fast break points in this ballgame. Wisconsin wins it
here this afternoon, ninety four to eighty four over the
Purdue Boilermakers. We'll take another break. When we continue, we'll
take a glance at the Nissan out of town scoreboard.
This is Badger basketball from lear Field. Most game coverage
(01:50:22):
continues here at macaw Arenas Wisconsin defeats Purdue this afternoon,
ninety four to eighty four. Let's check out the Nissun
out of town scoreboard. Another conference game in progress a
little less than fourteen minutes remaining in State College, where
Penn State leads Washington fifty two to forty eight. Later today,
a bit more than a half an hour from now,
(01:50:42):
USC will host Minnesota, and tonight to the featured game,
Michigan states we'll take on Illinois down in Champagne. Tomorrow.
Four more conference games on the schedule. Michigan will be
at Ohio State, Nebraska travels to Northwestern Maryland playing some
good ball of late, we'll host the Iowa Hawkey's Iowa
(01:51:02):
getting a really nice road win at Rutgers earlier in
the week, and the Oregon Ducks have the home floor
against the Scarlet Knights that will be tomorrow night. Next
up for the Badgers will be Illinois. That will be
on Tuesday night, a seven thirty tip time at the
Cole Center. The I went through some tough stretch there.
(01:51:23):
They had some injury and health issues, but they look
like they're rounding back into form. So hopefully a great
atmosphere in store for the Badgers as they come home
to start a three game homestand beginning Tuesday against the Alini.
That's a look at our Nissan out of town scoreboard.
Your final here in West Lafayette, Wisconsin. Ninety four Perdue
(01:51:44):
eighty four. More to come as our Wisconsin Ford Dealers
postgame show continues. This is Badger Basketball from Learfield. We
continue with the Wisconsin Ford Dealers postgame show as Wisconsin
defeats Purdue the SA ninety four to eighty four. Moments ago,
Brian Butch caught up with the head coach, Great Guard.
Speaker 2 (01:52:07):
We're here with the coach Guard Coach. First of all,
great win. I said during the during the broadcast that
Produe's going to make a run. Well they never really
made a run. Why didn't they make a run?
Speaker 6 (01:52:18):
You know, Brian, this group is so united, so connected,
and believe in each other so much that they just
I probably talk less in these huddles today than I
ever have, which is probably a good thing.
Speaker 5 (01:52:31):
They just it's such a player led team.
Speaker 6 (01:52:33):
And you know, with Kamari getting ejected from the game,
I think they just threw gas on our fire.
Speaker 5 (01:52:39):
And and obviously just big play after big play.
Speaker 6 (01:52:42):
Klusman was big down the stretch, John Tanjay made big shots.
They they they found each other in terms of melking possessions.
And then we get a back cut for a layup
or a backcut for a dunk. And then how about
Jack Chinicky coming off and you know, the first game,
first time in Mackie is a freshman and he's out
there like he's been here ten times. So just a
heck of a team effort. Really proud of this group.
(01:53:03):
You know, that's a really good team on the other side.
But as I told them, we're for real, We're really
good ourselves.
Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
You are, And I think when you look at this game,
obviously Kamari goes out very questionable. We won't even ask
you about that one, but you guys get it to
one a halftime?
Speaker 5 (01:53:19):
How important was.
Speaker 2 (01:53:20):
Getting it kind of a little bit closer at halftime,
so you can get in there and just kind of
regroup more than anything.
Speaker 5 (01:53:25):
Yeah, I think that's the moxy of this group.
Speaker 6 (01:53:26):
When something goes awry, they know there's a lot of
basketball left to be played, and they know we can
make up a difference in terms of a score deficit
fast because of how we are offensively. So yeah, I
thought we had a lot of confidence coming in a
half to with all the things that went against this
in the first half, is still only be down one
and have a shot we didn't execute real well the
last set, but a shot to take the lead at halftime,
(01:53:47):
which was fine. Let's get to get to half, and
knowing that we gained a lot of confidence from what
didn't go well and still having a one point game,
Let's go this second half and take control of this
thing offensively.
Speaker 2 (01:53:59):
That's been the story about the nation about Wisconsin's going
to be again, especially with you guys putting up ninety four,
but you guys score seventy Are you guys shoot at
seventy two percent the second half? What works so well offensively.
Speaker 6 (01:54:10):
In that second half unselfish players, really good players in
a really good system. I mean, it's a combination of
all three. You can't have one without the other, and
you can't have two without the third.
Speaker 5 (01:54:20):
So and we got the ball to go in.
Speaker 6 (01:54:22):
But it's just the unselfishness and the talent of this
group and they have so much confidence right now and
what we're doing from an offensive standpoint, and it's fun
to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:54:31):
It's fun for us to watch as well.
Speaker 2 (01:54:32):
We did talk a little bit about you guys got
to had a tough three game stretch here. Obviously you
get the first one here, but there's a tough one
coming up Tuesday night. When you look at this Illinois team,
not to look ahead too far ahead, but how do
you get them to dial in? Still enjoy this win
as we hear in the background a little bit, but
then kind of refocus, get ready for Tuesday and another
shot at Illinois.
Speaker 6 (01:54:52):
Yeah, we'll reconvene tomorrow morning and go through this film,
learn from it, get a good lift in, get on
the court, and get two days prepared.
Speaker 5 (01:54:59):
They know they're a mature group.
Speaker 3 (01:55:01):
They know you know you.
Speaker 6 (01:55:03):
This is a long grind and we're gonna we saw
a really really good team today. We're gonna see a
really really good team again on Tuesday night.
Speaker 5 (01:55:09):
But we need to enjoy this here.
Speaker 6 (01:55:11):
Today and let them enjoy this because they put a
lot of blood, sweat and tears to get this team
to this point into it, and I like to let
them enjoy the fruits of their labor for a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
Brian, well go enjoy it then, thanks so much. Coach
congratulates a great win.
Speaker 1 (01:55:26):
Guys, all right, thanks by all right, Jennen, thank you
very much. Wisconsin ninety four, per Due eighty four.
