Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into the jan K Security Solutions basketball postgame show.
I'm your host Dave Gasper joined by Nick Bruce Wiz.
The Wisconsin Badgers continue their bullying of the Big Ten
with a ninety five seventy four victory over Illinois. You
can join the conversation with us on the hotline six
oh eight three two one thirteen ten.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
How do you follow up.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
The emotional high of a road win over Purdue where
you score ninety four points? Just score ninety five points
when you come home? John Tanjay continues to make his
case for the Big Ten Player of the Year and
First Team All American thirty one point performance tonight from him.
Stephen Kroll the aircraft carrier with twenty points as well.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Nick.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
The Badgers were in command of this game seemingly from
the start, and the momentum just keeps on building.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Yeah, no doubt about it. David.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
This is this is Wisconsin groove that I tweet out
early in the contest. Every time you think they're done
passing the ball, they pass it one more time to
a wide open guy. And it's just like how efficient
they are operating right now. It is as good as
anyone in the country. And certainly in the Big Ten
and you've seen it now where two months ago, this
(01:19):
was a team that the Badger's faced, albeit maybe a
little bit healthier for Illinois for sure, and the Badgers struggled.
They lost eighty six to eighty. Stephen Krowell had zero rebounds.
Steve was called out after that game, and you saw
him answer for a stretch following that. But most definitely
was the best performance from Stephen crow tonight. You saw
(01:40):
John Blackwell take over down the stretch. Dude, you can't
stop John Tanjay Right now, Wisconsin's cooking and they're cooking
with gas. Ninety five points, Wow against Illinois, a team
you've lost nine straight to.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, breaking that streak. And Steven Crowell, Yeah, he answered
the bell. I mean after having zero rebounds, getting called
out by his coach publicly. Uh, he probably had this
game circled against Illinois for a while. Twenty points seven
rebounds in this game. Uh, the USS crowd the aircraft
carrier as Patton Waukeshaw calls him and Pat is on
(02:16):
the hotline six O eight three two one thirteen ten. Pat,
I just know you had to be loving this performance
from Stephen Krawll here tonight, David Nick.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
You got me cracking, UF. I don't know how I
can follow up Deuce's. Man, it's so much fun to
see Big Steve at those threes. I mean, I it's
this team is just really fun to watch, you know.
I know I shared with you guys, carrier that that
goes back to uh oh man, you guys, that goes
(02:46):
back to the early eighties, uh Al McGuire doing doing
TV games with Billy Packer after Big Al retired from
from coaching the Warriors and winning an national championship. That's
what he called a team's big man, the aircraft, their
(03:07):
aircraft carrier. So thanks for letting me share that with
you guys all the time. And you know you guys,
I John tan Jay he's the Big ten player of
the year, as you said, uh Nick, without a doubt.
And and also you have to look at it at
the defense that he plays. That that's another reason that
I feel that he's the Big ten player of the year,
(03:27):
just real quick. I know I can't, I know, I
only got so much time here, but his defense is outstanding.
And also against Purdue, he had a number of phenomenal
passes and so his total game is just really lights out.
You know, Saturday, I'm gonna be watching taking in the
game against the Ducks quack quack with my younger brother
(03:52):
and his family, my nieces and nephews. It's going to
be a celebration. I remember when we beat them in
two thousand and uh fourteen, Uh yeah, twenty fifteen at
the Bradley Center. It was one of those two years
on our run to the Final four and then in
twenty fifteen to the to the runner up game to
(04:15):
the championship game. I still say that was the loudest
I've ever heard the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. We we
beat Oregon, uh, just real quick. I got a touch
on Maddie and and uh and Brian, we're talking about
h the two thousand final four team. Still remember the
starting five, John Bryant, h markh Andy, Andy Keowski, John Kelly,
(04:44):
Roy Boone and Mark Vershaw. Just incredible run to the
final four in y two k I'm leaving some I'm
forgetting somebody there. I had him all ready to go.
And but hey, you guys, I love your show. It's
gonna be fun watching the rest of the year. This
(05:06):
team is really special. Go Badger's baby, win it off.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Paton Waukeshaw as always bringing the energy, bringing the enthusiasm
for Badgers basketball. And yeah, the defense for john Tonjay
that was a big thing as well in this game.
Not only does he have thirty one points, ten to
twelve from the free throw line for steals as well.
For john Tonjay just absolutely electric out there. Everything that
(05:34):
he's doing offense, defense, all of it. It's just been
success after success. And this is a guy that didn't
play much last year dealing with injuries at Missouri and
he comes in kind of an unherlded transfer. It's like, okay,
you know, seems like a nice wing to have and
who knows what he's going to be coming off of injury.
(05:54):
And the Badgers have gotten more than their money's worth
with this transfer. And what they've gotten from Tanjay is
more than they probably expected or ever thought that they
could get from him coming into the season.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Yeah, you guys start looking at Wisconsin as a destination
if you're a transfer, right you look at what they've
done with aj Store and john Toanjay and consecutive seasons
who are very different players, but players that certainly have
elevated their performance here as a member of the Badgers,
and Store moves on to what he believed was greener pastures,
(06:28):
greener maybe when it comes to m alright, yeah, but
and he's not doing as well. This is a system
that players can succeed in. And I'm not saying tan
Jay and Store the same player. I think Tanja is
a much better all around player, and his intensity and
his ability on the defensive side of the ball has
gotten better each and every week this season. And he
(06:49):
is truly a two way guy right now, no doubt
about it. He's a better offensive player because gosh, he
might be a top ten offensive player in the country
right now. Yeah, but he is really talented on both ends.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
He's leading in free throw percentage, he's one of the
top in the country in that, and offensively points per game,
one of the leaders in the country, certainly making a
strong case for Big Ten Player of the Year, for
a first team All American. And I think I think
TOANJ two is a better fit for the system than
(07:21):
AJ Store was. And I think the fit is so
important because the system is one that players can succeed,
but you have to be the right kind of player,
and aj Store he had he had facets of his
game that were certainly the right kind of player, but
he had other parts of it that weren't exactly the
right fit for what Wisconsin had, and that I think
(07:43):
led to Store entering the transfer portal once again last year.
And now you get John toanj and it is it
fits like a glove.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I mean it is.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
It is that perfect of a fit between Tanjay and Wisconsin,
and it has elevated this group. It has helped elevate
this offense. Ninety five points against Illinois. We've seen ninety
plus point games in back to back games for the
Wisconsin Badgers.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
That's pretty rare. We don't see that very often.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
And I've got a fun fact exactly on just how
rare that is on the other side when we get
to fun facts with Dave. That's going to be coming
up here on the show. We've also got Nick Osen
from twenty four to seven Sports, who is going to
be joining us. Lots more reaction to get to as
we break down this Badgers blowout win over Illinois ninety
(08:36):
five seventy four.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
That's all coming up. Don't go anywhere.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
This is the Jank Security Solutions Basketball Post Game Show.

Dave Gasper here with you alongside Nick Bruswiz. The Badgers
win over Illinois ninety five seventy four. Just another fantastic
offensive output from this team. John Tanjay leading the way
(09:23):
with thirty one points, Stephen Krawell with twenty, John Blackwell
adding sixteen points as well, and Nick. The offensive efficiency
that we've seen, the Badger shooting over fifty percent of
this game, shooting fifty two percent from the field. It's
something that we've seen really kind of all season. We've
(09:44):
we've been looking at the numbers that we've talked about
it a number of times. The offense and just the
types of numbers are putting up. We haven't seen it
in a long long time that these types of scoring totals,
but it has continued. It is not just a flash
in the it's something that just continues to amaze as
(10:04):
the season.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Has gone on.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
Yeah, you typically don't see this level of scoring with
the defensive output that the Badgers have shown on occasion. Right,
You've seen teams like Iowa play a whole lot of
offense and not a lot of defense, and the Badgers
have proven that they can be effective.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
On the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
They came into today with the fourth best defensive efficiency
in the Big Ten. That may have climbed, I don't know.
Seventy four points given up is right around the season
average for Illinois. Illinois has been slipping, but Badgers get
seventeen assists today. I wanted to get to that. I
didn't mean to mention that now, but twelve steals twelve
steals to Illinois six, Right, so you have that double
(10:45):
up in a very consistent way, in a very important
way with twelve steals versus Illinois six, and then points
in the paint. I wanted to mention during the breakout
thinking about it. You know, the Badgers put up forty
eight points in the paint tonight, twenty eight for Illinois,
And the last time these two teams took each other
on the Badgers only had thirty four points in the
(11:05):
paint versus Illinois thirty two. Right, So this is a
different team in terms of getting to the bucket and
scoring in the paint fourteen points higher this time around
in a game that you win by twenty one. I mean,
you have to imagine that's a huge part of why
you win by the score that you do. You took
it to him at the rim, and Steve had a
lot more points today than he did last time around.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah, exactly, That's just what I was going to say.
Stephen Crowell is the big difference in that because, as
we've kind of talked about before the last time the
Badgers faced Illinois earlier on in the season, that was
when Stephen Crowe got called out by Greg Gard just
being like, hey, how do you have no rebounds? Like,
where's the aggressiveness? I need to see more from Stephen
Krowell here the fifty year senior. And you know he's
(11:49):
answered that bell. He answered the bell for the next
several games after that, kind of had a little bit
of a diminished scoring output these past couple of games,
but still then he comes into this one scores two
twenty points, seven of ten from the field, three or
four from the free throw line, So fourteen shots twenty points.
I mean, that's that's pretty solid efficiency right there. Seven
rebounds five assists as well. Stephen Crowe leading the Badgers
(12:12):
and assists tonight. And we saw that a number of
times where he's when he's scoring down there in the
pant and he's drawing that attention that's going to leave
an open guy out there on the wing, and he
found him a bunch of times tonight, and that just
led to more and more points for Wisconsin that this
offense is humming like a well oiled machine and it
(12:35):
is a thing of beauty to watch.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
Tough day to be a big Steve Hayter, right, we
had we had one call into the Mike Keller Show
yesterday to tell us that Steve is worth benching for
Ricardo Greppi.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
In essence, he was saying, why don't we give Grepi
some minutes?
Speaker 5 (12:53):
And Steve's a take, Well, it was a take, and
we gave him our opinion, which was that he was wrong.
And today proved that Steve can still do this and
will still do this in the means of their offensive scheme. Today,
the scheme deemed him to be wide open. At three
(13:14):
he went perfect three for three from deep right. So
this is a guy that when needed can step up.
Would we all like to see Steve scoring double digits
every night. Yeah, and if the Badgers are gonna contend
for a national championship, you're going to need to be
able to rely on him.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
As your fifth year senior.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
A guy who has seen March Madness, who has seen
the Big ten tournament at the highest levels. And I
think that it's a guy that you're gonna have to
lean on. Tonight's a big step for him. You shouldn't
question if he hasn't in the tank anymore. He proved
it against a very talented Illinois team that he did
not perform that well against last time. Around nine points,
zero rebounds December tenth. Today he gets twenty points, seven rebounds,
(13:55):
five assists. Pretty impressive stuff from Big Steve.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
I think the the big Steve hater on the Mike
Keller Show the other day is not having a lot
of fun right now.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Well this and I had someone tweet back at me saying, well,
even a blind squirrel fins is not every once in
a while. I said, well, we're watching basketball and Steve's
not a squirrel, so I don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Oh, but but yeah, I don't think that the StepN
Krall haters are are having a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
But you know it is a lot of fun these facts. Hey,
have you ever heard me? Here's the term fun fact.
I got a couple of fun facts here because I
have a fun fact. You're a fun fact.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
I do first time in history this has happened at
eight games, five turnovers, and he's recorded thirty five assists.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Spent a long time since we've seen a game like this.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
The fun out here, This game's fun.
Speaker 7 (14:50):
Okay, that fact is fun?
Speaker 6 (14:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Are you fired up?
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I'm fired up for fun facts to day.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
All the facts are always more fun after a win,
and after a big win like this one, a twenty
one point victory over Illinois, they are so so fun.
As we kind of kick this off, I've got a
long list of of fun facts here, Nick, to really
get into. We'll start with this one. Wisconsin has now
scored eighty plus points fifteen times this year. They're most
(15:23):
in a season since nineteen seventy seventy one. We've talked
about that season a lot in terms of the offensive numbers.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
What was really wild to me was I.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Looked up the nineteen seventy one NCUBA tournament Badgers weren't there.
They weren't in it. Despite all that scoring that they did.
They were not in the nineteen seventy one NCUBLEA tournament.
I found that kind of interesting. I found that kind
of fun even though they weren't there. But continuing onward
with that, Stephen Kroll is now top twenty all time
(15:54):
in scoring as a Badger. With his twenty point output tonight,
Krow has passed Sam decks Her on the list, and
that's a's a big name for a crow to pass up.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Now.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Granted, Sam Decker had three seasons and Crowl's in his fifth,
but phil he has passed Sam Decker in total scoring.
Krow also now seventh all time and rebounds, passing Nigel
Hayes on the list. So big day for Stephen Krowll
in the Badger's record books and John tom Jay ten
(16:27):
free throws tonight vaults into the top five in all
time single season free throws made and Badger's history with
one hundred and sixty two. He keeps getting the line
and he keeps making him nick m Do.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
We know how far away he is from the top.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
We do not, because the record book in the game
notes only goes up to five because he was a
little bit further away. He's down at like nine coming
into today. So I'm assuming by the time we get
to the next game, we will have that yeah number.
Patrick Herbel will have it updated for us and we'll
have it figured out.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Yeah, Patt'll get us what we need to know.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
And you know, I was checking earlier this year how
close he was to maybe you.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Know, challenging top five for three pointers made.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
In the season, and you know, at that moment it
felt a little crazy. But now he's made three, four, five, four, six, four,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (17:22):
He is, Yeah, he quickly making threes.
Speaker 5 (17:25):
This is one of the best seasons that anyone has
ever had in program history.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Is it the best?
Speaker 7 (17:29):
No?
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Will it be the best?
Speaker 5 (17:31):
I don't know. Maybe they win a national championship, we
say so, But the reality is right now, John's playing
incredible and it doesn't necessarily matter where he is in
the record books. It's gonna be a year similar to
Russell Wilson with the with the football team that we.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Will always remember absolutely.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
And a couple more kind of historical fun facts here
going on with john Tonjay and some others. John Tonjay
has now scored thirty points in back to back games.
He scored thirty two against Purdue, thirty one here tonight.
The last Badgers player to score thirty points in back
to back games got to go all the way back
(18:07):
to Michael Finley nineteen ninety four against Michigan and Michigan State.
And also Wisconsin went back to back ninety point performances
last time they did that in back to back games
nineteen ninety two. As Matt Lapay was talking about a
little bit in the postgame there, including a game against
the Fab five that the Badgers went up against and this, Nick,
(18:29):
I know, the music has kind of run out here,
but the last this is probably the most fun fact
that I have, the last one that I've got here.
Wisconsin now has three ninety point games in their last
thirteen Big Ten Conference games, three ninety point performances prior
(18:51):
to that. To have three Big Ten games with ninety
or more points for the Badgers, you have to go
back their last four or one hundred conference games four
hundred conference games combined, the Badgers had three games with
ninety plus points. They've done it three times this season.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
Three So you're telling me they're scoring.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
They're scoring a lot of points this year, Dave, I
think that we can reach that conclusion. Yeah, and these
are not just walkover programs and not trying to disrespect
any programs. So that's Iowa, Purdue in Illinois. Right, it's
not others. I shouldn't name names, but the reality is,
I mean those are Big Ten champion two years ago,
Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament, Purdue's Big Ten Tournament
(19:38):
champion last year. Illinois shared the Big Ten title with
the Badgers three years ago. Right, these are top programs.
It's so impressive, dude, A lot of fun looking forward
to the rest of the year.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Yeah, it's it's been an incredible offensive run and it
makes the facts that much more fun.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
These are facts.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
I'm just telling you the facts, and we're having fun
with them. And the Badgers are having fun as they
have a ninety five seventy four victory over Illinois, and
we're gonna have some more fun with Nick Osen of
twenty four to seven Sports. He's going to join us
on the other side that's coming up. You're not going
to want to miss that at all. As we get
his thoughts his reaction to this Badgers win This is
(20:17):
the jan K Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show jan K
Security Solutions Basketball Postgame Show from home Security to Automation
Jay and K Security Solutions as you've covered, Go to
(20:40):
jksecurity dot com for more info. Dave gasper here along
with Nick Bruswitz, and we are joined now by Nick
Osen of twenty four to seven sports and uh Nick,
this was another fantastic win for the Badgers and John
Toanjay continues to be the headlining story. Thirty one point
back to back thirty point performances from Tanjay, the transfer
(21:04):
from Missouri, and is he now a leading candidate for
Big Ten Player of the Year, First Team All American
awards like that?
Speaker 8 (21:14):
So, guys, I think Dave Saturday was kind of the
turning point for me where I saw, Okay, we've known
this guy's a star, He's a legitimate superstar on the
national stage. That is what we are seeing right now.
I believe it was set over the PA. Just the
third or fourth Badger ever with thirty plus points in
back to back games, and what you're seeing it's not
(21:35):
just kind of a fun story anymore. It's not just
a good team. It's like, Okay, this group can contend
for a title, and I do mean that because they're
going to be in the two seed projections this week.
So all that to say, Dave, I personally there's no
question he's first team All Big Ten. I think he
has overtaken at least top two, maybe number one in
(21:55):
Big Ten Player of the Year after some of Purdue's
struggles because I believe Braden Smith and TKR Trakoff and
Ren we're kind of the top two. I don't think
Michigan State has a single guy that would kind of
jump over Tanjay, And if he's not first team All American,
he's second, and I think you can see what he
does the rest of the way to deem first or second.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
What do you think of Danny Wolf of Michigan right
top team right now in conference record, He's been really strong,
not putting up the points, but what do you think.
Speaker 8 (22:22):
So that's a great one. He'll be first team for sure.
He's in the conversation and obviously team record. I think
he's doing a ton, but I personally feel like they've
got maybe a little bit more overall depth than Wisconsin.
I think that though he can do a lot of things.
You've watched games this year. We've all seen where if
(22:43):
Tanjay didn't score twenty two to twenty six as much
depth as this Wisconsin team has, they wouldn't be scoring
and putting up these types of numbers. Like the offensive
shift has happened already. Yeah, but Tanja has been such
a seamless fit there. So Wolf certainly in there, and hey,
if they kind of get through their tough games, because
they've got a couple more tough ones compared to Wisconsin,
(23:03):
it may be Wolf, but a lot of people that
I trust him follow kind of had the Purdue guys
top two, then it was kind of that next year
Wolf Ton Jay, maybe somebody from Michigan State. So I
think he will at least be top two as of now.
I think he's about to average. It'll be just under
twenty at this point.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
So to challenge for a title, whether it's in the
Big Ten Tournament, ultimately in the in March, madis in
the national tournament, you know, Steve's not gonna have to
play like this every game, but you're gonna need to
be able to rely on.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Steve to show up if needed.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Tonight, the scheme kind of lent to some wide open
threes and some good looks for him, and obviously his
passing ability, leading the team with five assists.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
Steve had a great game tonight.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
They don't need that every time, but do they need
him to kind of be closer to this than some
of the more quiet performances.
Speaker 7 (23:47):
Nick, I think that's really well said.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
But you know, fortunately we got to speak on this
station earlier today and I said, even before this Ivisich News,
I thought this was a forward type of night Winter
and Crowell, obviously Crowell was I would maybe argue the
most complete player for Wisconsin tonight. I mean, his stat
line was near perfection, and so I feel like it's
a mental thing for him, and I think he has
(24:09):
certainly gotten there ever since that first Illinois game. I
feel like he might not have to go out there
thinking he is the best player, but he's got to
know I can get.
Speaker 7 (24:17):
Through this one on one matchup.
Speaker 8 (24:19):
I can be the best dang passer on this team,
because I believe that he is a couple that he's
had recently are are just incredible. And I love what
coach Guard said. We spoke with him a few minutes ago.
They were running things through Steve because he's not just
a scorer. He did some pick and pop tonight from distance,
but he's a great passing and so I feel like,
if you're getting seventy five eighty percent of what you
(24:39):
saw tonight, Nick, you're in great shape.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
With Steve and another guy who just kind of continues
to put up members. John Blackwell ends up with sixteen
points tonight. Also, I mean a really strong overall stat
line for Blackwell. Six rebounds in there, four assists, and Blackwell,
I mean, we've seen moments this season for him where
he's kind of taken over in games when Tanja was
(25:03):
kind of having his downstretch. Now Tanjay's back on the
upswing and black Hole's numbers have kind of taken a
second fiddle to Tanja, but still he keeps on putting
up the big numbers as a strong number two option
behind Tanja Dave.
Speaker 8 (25:19):
He's basically like a Robin that can be Batman if necessary.
You know, That's what I really think of with this
roster construction. He's absolutely been the best player in some
of these big games. And you know, maybe you put
Tanja or Crowell above tonight, but I love that you
mentioned his entire stat line. I think rebounds he grabbed
so six total, one of them was his own. I
(25:39):
love seeing kind of attacking the offensive glass like that.
He was a playmaker with four assists, that is something
that coach Greg Gard has really harped on with him.
Between he and Crowell nine combined assists, that is terrific
for really any two guys in a game like this.
So I just love that, other than maybe a mid
range jumper like I didn't feel like he really forced anything.
(26:00):
And that first mid range Rumbery hit, I want to say,
five six minutes in, was just gorgeous and you don't
see that often. And he's one of the few guys
that guarding this staff are really okay with taking those
shots as they continue to try to get to threes, layups,
shots around the rim.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
So at this point in the season, are you comfortable
saying that the Badgers are really nine deep with guys
that you can be confident because Janicky he had a
really quiet stretch. But dude, tonight, I think the two
most impressive passes. I know Krole was more consistent in
total number, but Janicky's dropping dimes out there.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
I mean, Grepy got that final one off and they're
nine deep.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Right, So the guys off the bench that I think
that you can count on in a given night to
really be significant Carter Gilmour and Kamari mcgeego without mentioning it,
I mean their borderline starters with their impact on a
given game. And then Xavier Amis is one of those
guys that you have yet to see kind of pop
off for a big performance. And Janicky's coming off of
the game against Produce, So maybe I'm a little rose
(26:58):
colored glasses with him, but tonight, when he's out there, dude,
the intensity I feel similar to what Kamaria McGee has
brought last season, like kind of energizer buddy. When he's
out there, things change, momentum grows, things get more in
the Badger's favor.
Speaker 7 (27:14):
Yeah, my friend, you don't have to convince me at
always that.
Speaker 8 (27:16):
Quite honestly, no, I have thought it could go nine
deep since December. And this might be a little bit
of a take because you don't see him super often,
but if Ilver had to play extended manager, I trust
him because you should hear how his teammates speak about
him as a shooter. He's grown a little bit defensively,
but amos it was huge for him to see that
three go down. Now, he did take another that was
(27:38):
kind of contested after, but still happens if you're a shooter.
JANICKI I think is putting himself in a position to
be a top five or six guy on this team
next year.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
I really do.
Speaker 7 (27:48):
Because he's got such a high floor.
Speaker 8 (27:50):
He might not go out and score twenty two on
seven of ten shooting, but like you just kind of
mentioned it, and so did Dave some of his stats,
you're not gonna see him make money any mistakes. I
think he's really impressive and just the work that that
young man has put in.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Some of us haven't even seen it.
Speaker 8 (28:06):
We get to go to some practices and things, but
it's phenomenal and I hope Badger fans really realize that
because he did not have to stick around, some of
the other walk on guys left to kind of play
more at other places. The kid bet on himself and
he's an important player to this Badger's team.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Nick, do you think the Badgers can get themselves up
to a one seed by the time we get to
selection Sunday.
Speaker 8 (28:29):
That's the one thing I don't I feel like at
this point so much would kind of have to go
quote unquote wrong for other teams. I mean that would
take winning out regular season, probably Big Ten title, and
you need well, Bama has a tough schedule. They really do,
so I'm not going to rule that out day, but
I think I would be pretty shell shocked. I personally
(28:51):
feel like the people I trust and kind of what
I see with my projections.
Speaker 7 (28:55):
The two is probably the.
Speaker 8 (28:56):
Ceiling as kind of that seventh or eighth overall, which
you asked a great question, But guys, how crazy is
this If we would have been talking like this in
mid December after that Illinois game, for sure, I don't
think even the optimist in me would have fully believed it.
Speaker 7 (29:11):
So I think that's their ceiling.
Speaker 8 (29:13):
I was most worried about this game, guys the rest
of the way because even though Sparti is on the road,
like I said, I don't think they have a superstar.
Speaker 7 (29:20):
So this was a statement.
Speaker 8 (29:21):
When get a little bit of rest this week, A
couple practices Oregon early. That's a classic lotdown spot. But
fortunately they're coming from the other coast. They've been inconsistent.
Take care of business neck, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
Badgers is a great job. Just last note, for me
on Yakachonas tonight.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
Right, So this is a guy that you know, kind
of torched him in that first matchup and tonight less
than double digit points. You never really found any sort
of groove. You know, only one player for them, Gibbs
Lar was able to find any sort of significant run
in him today, rhythm that grew in the second half,
but Yakachonas didn't do anything.
Speaker 8 (29:55):
I mean, yeah, you talk about high floor for Janiki, right, Yeah,
I'm a fan.
Speaker 7 (30:00):
Of kJ caspris yakachon.
Speaker 8 (30:02):
It's like his game is beautiful, but not a high
floor guy. He's a high ceiling So if he's not
getting a bunch of assists he had, this is unbelievable.
Seven turnovers tonight, Yeah, like that that's not going to
fly in the Big ten. And that's why he's a
guy like a Luka Doncic that he'll fit better in
the NBA. And even though you know teams kind of
move like this in college, that is a ton of
(30:24):
turnovers in the college game. Clearly Wisconsin's defense took advantage
and if they were going full blown like this could
have been a one hundred to sixty eight type game.
Speaker 7 (30:32):
That's how dominant it was.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Yeah, and Wisconsin just kind of continuing their bullying of
the Big ten and uh all a dominant performance as
always from Nick Osen of twenty four seven Sports joining
us here on the postgame show.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Nick, as always, we.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Appreciate it, We appreciate you and your insights, and we'll
talk to you again this weekend after the Badgers take
on Oregon.
Speaker 7 (30:54):
Always love the opportunity, guys. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
All right, there goes Nick Osen of twenty four to
sevens Sports, giving us his insight, his thoughts and reaction
to this Badger's win ninety five seventy four over the
Illinois fighting Aliini. We'll get some thoughts from Greg Gard
on the other side. That's still coming up. You're listening
to the Jank Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.
Speaker 9 (31:19):
And gillen a he turns it over five forty five
to play thirteen point lead for Wisconsin. Donja off the
left wing in the land the floater, give him thirty
one two more for Tanja thirty one points tonight eighty
two sixty seven Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Welcome back to the Jank Security Solutions Basketball postgame Show.

your world. Visit jksecurity dot com. Dave Gasper here along
with Nick Bruswich. The Badgers win ninety five seventy four
over the Illinois Fighting Alini as they continue their hot
(32:00):
stretch in Big Ten play. Their win streak has reached
five games now and that's got Greg Guard pretty darn happy.
As he was talking with Matt Leapey and Brian Butch
after the.
Speaker 9 (32:12):
Game, joined now by the Badger's head coach, well, hopefully
none of you guys catch the flu here, like apparently
it's gone through Illinois.
Speaker 10 (32:19):
So yeah, I mean that's uh, you know, there wasn't
anybody that was watching on TV or described.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
I know there was a few booze, but it wasn't.
Speaker 7 (32:27):
It wasn't.
Speaker 10 (32:28):
Now when I got to Brad, he's like, he's just said, hey,
you guys gotta get healthy.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
You know, and obviously Johnson's out and whatever else is
going on.
Speaker 10 (32:35):
He goes, we got we got the flu rolling through
a bunch of our guys are in the locker room
right now discharging.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Uh So I said, if you're okay, we're not going
to shake hands. Is that good with you?
Speaker 10 (32:46):
And he goes, yes, dude, fine. I said, hey, we're cool,
We're good. Good luck talk to you. Yeah, because you
guys are staying on the air. You guys get along.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Okay. We drank a lot of beer together, so we're good.
He's a good guys. Yes, exactly exactly that in there.
Speaker 6 (33:05):
We did.
Speaker 7 (33:05):
We did.
Speaker 9 (33:06):
We were looking at a lot of things and I
know they don't have Maris Johnson. We also know they
were going to leave rebounding team and you guys, you
got a lot done on the glass. It seemed early
in the game. A lot of factors there, but that
was pretty high.
Speaker 10 (33:17):
We did, you know, we tried. There was a few
got away from us. Obviously the ball bounce is funny sometimes.
But I thought we were you know, when we didn't
get them, there was you know, a group accountability that
they were. They were pretty astute and talking about what
we needed to get cleaned up. But uh yeah, and
just that we were much better defensively a second half.
You know, we prepared for them to do some things
(33:37):
and then with a visage out completely what they were
starting with was nothing that we had prepared for. So
we took a little bit there for us to get
our legs underneath us and figure out what they were
trying to do and how to just handle a lot
of that drible drive stuff and much more obviously switching
than what we had planned on.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Because of the lineup.
Speaker 11 (33:56):
You don't get to see opponents twice a whole lot.
You get three of them. Well, thanks, thankfully for Steve.
It was one that you didn't play. Is one of
his better games. For now he gets a chance to
kind of get a little redemption. And I thought he
came early in this game was ultra aggressive, you know,
whether it was getting the ball in the post, finding
cutters or just some of the post moves right, just
(34:17):
put the shoulder down and go through somebody.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
You saw some of that.
Speaker 11 (34:20):
And then you look at the stat line twenty point
seven to ten three or three, like, it's amazing when
he plays with that amount of energy and that amount
of aggression, how successful he can be?
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Well yeah, I mean, just how much better it makes us.
Speaker 10 (34:32):
I mean, obviously you have facilitate a lot through him,
and he has five assists one turnover, and that's just
direct shots for baskets, let alone how he spins it
when we when we throw it out of the post
and we get up the second third, you know, pass
from that and what we get from it. So yeah,
I mean he's we need an aggressive Steve obviously, I
think he remembered two and a half months ago. If
there's a little bit of that as well. Exactly Circle
(34:54):
reminded it in pre game. So uh, he responded, he
does have a way.
Speaker 9 (35:01):
He may not show it, but don't confuse that with
lack of competitiveness.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Right right, Yeah, he's got a little he's got a
little edge to him.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
When you started this game.
Speaker 11 (35:08):
Obviously they had a lot of rotation difference, but but offensive,
it looked like there was a focus to say, hey,
let's dominate the pain early on. We know you guys
want to shoot threes, but you guys are going to
take like episodes of there and get the paint.
Speaker 10 (35:20):
Yeah, I mean, it's it's all part of the process.
I try to attack the paint and play with in it,
and we have some you know, we get there in
the draw traffic, kick it and make some threes and
you know, and then get to the free throw line.
That was big, especially the second half. I thought that
we you know, shot Obviously at thirteen free throws, it
seemed like there was more. We should seventy seven percent.
Felt like we shot fifty with how we have been
(35:41):
shooting the free throw line. But uh yeah, I think
only two turnovers the second half. That was important that
we got a little loose, a little sloppy the first half.
But uh, you know, this team just gets better as
games go on. They figure out opponents and and different
guys step up different nights, and uh, you know, just
fun team to coach.
Speaker 11 (36:01):
Well, not that you've got to say this, but I'm
gonna ask him. John Ton just making a statement for
Big Ten Player of the Year with the way he's
doing and the way he's going about it. I know
you guys don't have those conversations conversations in the locker
room about that, but just what does it mean to
see John do this and obviously make a statement, I mean,
to be the best player in the Big Ten. He's
(36:21):
definitely making it very difficult for a lot of people
out there that make those decisions.
Speaker 10 (36:26):
Yeah, I think, you know, the one thing is with
John is he wants to play on He wants to
have the Big Ten Team of the year, you know,
and and he's very team focused. He's very coachable, as
I've said a hundred times. And and I thought he
got a little sped up early. I thought he forced
some stuff early. But then when he gets in a rhythm,
he starts banging shots. It's you kind of just say, okay,
(36:48):
go go do your thing.
Speaker 9 (36:50):
Uh, we're amazing. He makes the hard look easy. I
mean contested shots, and he just drills.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
It's ridiculous. I mean some of them, you're just like, okay, yeah.
I mean he's you know, and he's he's a confident player.
Speaker 10 (37:01):
And and his ability to get to the foul line
to his baby, because he can get himself out of
a rut by going to get fouled and watching some
free throws go in and and then get back out
with that three point line do what he does.
Speaker 11 (37:11):
What I love about is he absorbs the guy used that,
you know, but he absorbs that contact. Most players going
to get that contact, they collapse right when they get it.
Speaker 10 (37:19):
He just it just is one of he's a low
coming downhill. I mean, he's he's uh absolutely yea. He
likes to run between the tackles. There's a bouncing it
outside with him.
Speaker 9 (37:28):
Run yeah, absolutely, Well go go enjoy some varsity goldennail
if you if you're wondering, but he says.
Speaker 10 (37:35):
He has, I think I think I might have a
few rats. All your listeners go by it because it
helps Badger the Badger collective, Varsity collective.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
So yes it does, Yes, it does.
Speaker 9 (37:47):
Congrats going thanks coach Greg Guard joining his court shot
is the Badger's defeated litt only ninety five to seventy four.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
All right, there was Badger's head coach Greg Guard and
having himself a varsity goldenail. I think they've earned it
after or at least Greg Guard has earned out. Don't
think any of these players though, well some of them
maybe can, but.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
Well, they're one of the oldest teams in the country, Dave,
so I think most of his players can enjoy beer
and have them and potentially for a few years now.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
That's to their credit.
Speaker 5 (38:14):
And the Badgers are one of the oldest, most experienced
teams in the country.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
They're playing like it right now. Twenty and one in five.
Speaker 5 (38:21):
You're gonna face an Oregon team that's got to travel
multiple time zones to get here for an early game
on Saturday, hoping and looking forward to the Badgers taking advantage.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Of that chance.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
I'll tell you what, Nick, I could certainly use the
varsity golden ail after this and Badgers get themselves in
ninety five to seventy four win as we go late
into the night here with a league tip here at
the Cole Center. But the Badgers will look to continue
their winning streak against Oregon that game coming up on Saturday,
(38:51):
eleven am. Tips so early morning game pregame coverage will
begin at ten am.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Right here on thirteen ten WIBA.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Of course, stick around afterwards for the jan K Security
Solutions Basketball postgame show as we break down what we
hope will be another Badgers win as they continue our
march towards March. Once again, your final score here tonight
Wisconsin ninety five, Illinois seventy four for Casey James, our

This has been the Jane K Security Solutions Basketball postgame.
Speaker 9 (39:26):
Show and a loose wall taken away by Cutcher of Illinois.
Time will wind down at the Wisconsin Badgers now with
a five game winning streak, they improved to eleven and
four in the Big ten, I have, for the first
time in six years, the Badgers defeat Illinois, and they
(39:49):
do it very convincingly here tonight
Speaker 7 (40:00):
Y
