Your seven time national Chippie. It'sour Commy Air Bason. Welcome to Wisconsin
Batcher Women's Hockey. Back the passageRonda. Wisconsin Women's hockey is presented by
good Men's Jewelers, the Diamond Storeof Madison. Good Men's Jewelers a destination
(00:24):
worth reaching at till twenty State Street. Now with a call of the k,
here's Noah Clark and Aiden Michaels andWisconsin Badger Women's hockey is about to
get set here in just a fewminutes, the Badger's going for title number
(00:47):
eight and that road begins right now. I'm Noah Clark. Here. We've
got a great game for you lateron tonight. This is the pregame show
and it should be a fun one. Wisconsin coming in coming actually in the
start the season with a seventh nationalchampionship, that is a record setting seven
(01:08):
titles. Along with me two,Here is Dave Gasper. We got a
great show for you, wiscons comingin with their seventh winning their seventh national
championship over Ohio State and it wasquite an incredible run. The Badger's ad
Wisconsin the first unranked team or unrankedteam really unseated team to go in and
(01:30):
win the national championship. And notonly did they do it, Dave,
they beat Minnesota, they beat OhioState, they beat Colgate. These are
three teams two that were ranked higherthan the Badgers, and they got to
the record seventh national championship and nowthey're looking to go for title number eight
here and it starts tonight against Lindenwood. Yeah no, And it's gonna be
a completely different story this year becausethe Badgers come into the season ranked number
(01:56):
one in the preseason polls, sothey're not gonna have the element of surprise
like they did last year going inunseated. And this roster they lost a
lot of experience, a lot ofplayers going into the Professional Women's Hockey League
draft and and a lot of playersjust running out of eligibility. It's a
younger team this year. We're notgoing to see some of the familiar names
(02:17):
of Daryl Watts, Natalie Bookbinder,Nicole La Montilla. They're not going to
be there anymore Cammy Cronish. Butit's a younger team, but they are
still incredibly talented and have everything thatit takes to go back from number eight.
And you look at this roster. They didn't. They lost a lot
of experience, losing Sophie Shirley, probably one of the bigger ones on that
(02:39):
team. Sophie Shirley an incredible goalscorer, an incredible player two in terms
of just needing a goal when youneed it. They lose Nicole La Montilla
on the defensive side as well, and that defense was already experienced enough with
Shayla Edwards back there as well.Cammy Cronish, who had an incredible tournament
run in net for the Badgers. She's gone. So they've got a couple
(03:02):
of pieces that they're gonna lose. But like you said, Dave, this
is a very experience. This isa very I shouldn't say experience. This
is a very young group. Youlook at it. They have a lot
of freshmen and sophomores coming in andthe two that are really huge for this
group are freshman Ava Murphy and theplayer that's probably going to be maybe go
(03:24):
down as one of the greatest orone of the top five all time skaters
in Wisconsin women's hockey, Caroline Harvey. She's got a lot of preseason rankings
on her list, and this shouldbe very interesting with what Wisconsin is got
in store with this young group.Yeah, last year, I'm a Caroline
Harvey just burst onto the scene. Two time WCCHA Rookie of the Month,
(03:47):
two time Rookie of the Week,All WCCHA Second Team All American. It
was just incredible numbers that she putup last year, and she's coming back,
and yeah, you have a greatfriends class coming in. You got
you got six true freshmen in thisrecruiting class that was ranked number one in
(04:08):
women's hockey by Neutral Zone dot Net. So you have the top recruiting class
in all of women's hockey coming in. You mentioned Ava Murphy, you also
got Ava McNaughton in goal, yougot Laney Potter on defense, and then
you got a couple of forwards inthere as well, Bellavisuer, Cassie Hall,
Kelly Gorbatanko. So you have avery strong recruiting class. I'm not
(04:29):
sure how much we'll see each ofthose freshmen in this game, but we're
gonna be seeing a bunch of themlater this you know, throughout the season,
in seasons going forward, and justsuch a strong class. And when
you are the seven time national champion, recruiting the top class gets gets a
little bit easier for Mark Johnson andit and it does. I mean,
(04:53):
and not only did they get thenumber one recruiting class, they dip dip
in to the transfer port a littlebit. And they did bring in a
player who's coming over from the Universityof Minnesota State, an A. Wilgren.
She's a fifth year senior. HAnd you look at this roster two
Dave. Last year was kind ofone of the very rare occurrences that there
(05:15):
was no player from the state ofWisconsin on this Badger team. They go
back to that trend again. AnnaWilgren comes in. She's from Hudson,
Wisconsin, a little bit up northin the state of Wisconsin. She comes
over, she's already played four yearsat Minnesota State. Incredible player for the
Mavericks. Now she comes in Wisconsinalready put on this defensive side. Uh
(05:39):
what do you what do you makeof with the Badgers and Mark Johnson going
out and getting a player like AnnaWilgrin, Yeah, I think that's where
you know, we talk about losinga lot of experience last year and having
a young team, a lot offreshman and sophomores. So for Mark Johnson
going out and getting an experienced playerlike Anna Wilgren to come in for another
year of eligibility transferring from Minnesota State. She was a captain over there,
(06:02):
so you're bringing in veteran leadership aswell as she unfortunately had a season ending
injury on October seventh, which whichgives her another year of eligibility because she
suffered it so early in the year. So I think that definitely helps bringing
her in and and just having thatthat experience, that leadership, and because
(06:23):
I mean, it takes it takesa lot to earn a captaincy, and
that that speaks volumes about her andwhat she's going to bring to this Badger's
team. Yeah, and with that, you know they already have an incredible
defense. Oh, they have anincredible defense. I mean you look at
it. Last year they lose NicoleLa Montia, which a lot of people
would say, well you lose LaMontilla. That is a tough loss because
(06:45):
she could do it not only onthe defensive side, but on the offensive
side. Was an incredible goal scorer. And we're seeing this not only in
men's hockey, but in women's hockeyas well. We're seeing a lot more
scoring defenseman Caroline Harvey. Uh thisyear moving from offense to defense. From
what we've seen, that is goingto be an interesting change up, but
(07:05):
they still have a really impressive defensiveside. Shaila Edwards is still there.
She's coming back for another year forthis group, and out of all the
players on this Wisconsin squad that hasa lot of experience on the defensive shide,
she has the most and she isone of the top defensemen I believe
in the w c h A andand maybe all of college hockey for Rumans,
(07:29):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, andjust having that that strong defense,
even though you lose a lot ofexperience back there, being able to bring
some faces in and have a lotof players that can step up in that
scoring defense role, and just makingsure that that you keep the goals off
the board. And that's going tobe important as well because it's a new
goal goaltender back there as well,Kammy Cronis. She is out of eligibility
(07:55):
as well, so that's going tobe very important. With a lot of
changes there in the back end Wisconsinand Jane Gervais takes over. Let's stop
right into a little bit of JaneJervey because you look at last year.
It's an interesting story for number onefor the Badgers. She last year was
named the starter for this team underMark Johnson for this group, played really
(08:16):
well into that good start and thenhad an injury that kind of that kind
of derailed her season a little bit. She came back to the lineup,
Cammy Cronish kind of took over thatrole, and then throughout the whole season
they just kind of alternated goalies, and then the postseason came in and Cammy
Cronish took over and we all knowwhat happened after that. Now, she's
(08:37):
kind of out of all the playershere on this roster, especially at goalie,
she's one of the ones that comesin with the most experience because you
have Avid McNaughton who's a freshman,Kloie Baker who red shirted last year but
is now going to probably get ashot as well to split some minutes with
McNaughton and Jervais. But right now, Jane Jervai is the number one goalie
for this group. What can weexpect from her this sea and especially from
(09:01):
tonight's game against Lennonwood. Yeah,I think we can expect a lot of
good things for her from her Imean just what we've seen in the past
with Changer Bay. I mean, she started eleven games last year, she
had an eight and two record.I mean, she she did really well.
She had a she had a ninetwenty six safe percentage career high thirty
five saves against Minnesota Duluth. Soshe's going to continue that that trend of
a strong goaltender for Wisconsin and andjust continue to you know, now that
(09:26):
she's back from injury. I thinkthat's that's gonna be great for her and
just this this is kind of herjob. Now. You know, there's
Chloe Baker, there's Avin McNaughton, but those are freshmen. She's here as
a as a Retchard junior, She'sthe experienced one of the group. So
I think that's that's gonna be That'sgonna be her job, and it should
be a fun one at that.Wisconsin they have always had really solid defensive
(09:50):
players. Goalie is probably one ofthe solid players that just continue they continue
to just just churn them out, just churn them out like in and out.
I mean, you look at it. The had Christian Campbell from a
couple of years ago. They hadCammy Cronish last year. They just you
know, they've had a lot thathave also gone on into the Olympics as
well, goaltender wise, So thisis a good spot. So for Wisconsin,
(10:13):
we're gonna take a quick break whenwe come back puck Drop. Hopefully
we'll be coming up here soon. We'll dive a little bit more into this
Lindenwood game. For the Badger's ear, you're listening to Badger Women's Hockey,
the pregame show on ten seventy FoxSports. Back here on the pregame show,
(10:37):
this is Badger Women's Ocky presented byGoodman Jewelers, the Diamond Store of
Madison. Noah Clark, Dave Gasperfor a few minutes away from puck Drop,
Wisconsin beginning their season at Lindenwood.Last year, they played Lindenwood at
Labon. They swept him and theyshut him out. I believe in both
games as well, and David wasn'teven close of aim catch up last year
(10:58):
and overall this series between these twoteams has never even been closed. But
uh, can we expect an upsetfrom Lindenwood or is it the same old
story here from Wisconsin tonight? Well, hopefully it's the same old story.
Yeah, I would very much liketo see the same old story. It's
a great story, it really is. But yeah, I mean this whole
series between Wisconsin and london Wood,I mean, all time record for Wisconsin
(11:22):
twenty one to no. I mean, this goes back several years and Lindon
Wood has has not won a singlea single game. Wisconsin has outscored Lindenwood
one hundred and thirty four to fourteen. I mean, it's it hasn't been
close this entire time. I mean, I know Lindon Wood is is,
you know, an up and comingprogram. You know, they're they're trying
(11:43):
to get better and and and keepon moving up the rankings and moving up
in status. But just with withthis Wisconsin team, how stacked they are
from top to bottom. Even thoughit's young, they're they're not quite as
experienced. You know that they losta lot of experience last year. As
we been talking about. I justdon't see enough for Wisconsin to lose this
(12:05):
game to Lindenwood and Lyndon Wood.Hopefully we'll put up a bit of a
fight, but Wisconsin looking to goin and get a win to start the
season. For their title run fortitle number eight, and that should be
a fun one. What are welooking for in this game? Because Wisconsin,
like we've said before, they gofrom an experienced team to a little
(12:26):
bit more youth on this squad. What are we going to be looking for
here for Wisconsin tonight, because ifthis game does get out of hand,
we may get to see some ofthe younger players. What are we looking
for from this young team to start? You know, I think we're gonna
be looking to see some of thoseplayers who maybe had not as big of
a role last year. You know, he still had a role, but
(12:48):
now that some of the upperclassmen havegraduated, have moved on, they can
step up into bigger roles. KirstenSimms, Layla Edwards, Maddie Wheeler can
step up into a bigger role aswell. So just seeing some of these
players step up, seeing seeing theseyoung players, these freshmen, these these
sophomores, these underclassmen, and justjust playing well, just playing good smart
(13:09):
hockey and just putting themselves in theright positions. And as long as they're
able to do that, they're goingto continue to earn their their time on
the ice and keep this team movingforward and hopefully towards championship number eight.
Yeah, and it's I'm just excitedto watch this. I cannot wait to
see what Wisconsin is gonna do tonight. This this young group of guys,
(13:31):
uh, this young group of girls, and just such a such a very
uh young team, very fast team. Talking with coach Johnson, he said,
this team is young, but man, they are fast and they've got
they've got a lot of size tohim, he said, you know,
early on in the week, hesaid, you know, I don't want
to be in their way because they'reso fast and they're so physical and they
(13:52):
might knock me down. So,yeah, this is gonna be a fun
group to watch this year. Uhplayer to watch though for the game,
honestly, I think I gotta goright off the bat and start with it.
Caroline Harvey. I think I thinkKK Harvey's got to get off to
a hot start here. And Ifeel like she is, uh just because
you look at it, look ata lot of the preseason awards that she
is in and a lot of thebig time recognition that she got this past
(14:18):
season or that, and even goinginto this preseason. I mean, it
would be very interesting to see herget off on the right foot here tonight
for Wisconsin. Yeah, absolutely, just get getting Caroline Harvey going early on
here. And yeah, from everythingwe've seen from her in the past,
I'm pretty sure we will see hereto do some do some great things on
the ice here tonight. But Imean for me another player to watch as
(14:41):
well. I mean we also gotto talk about Britta Carl, the captain
of this team, and you know, last year second on the team and
points, nineteen goals, twenty fourassists. You know, she's got eleven
career game winning goals eleven. It'sit's insane. And yeah, she's gonna
be another one for for me towatch as well. I mean those two
on the ice, so that that'sgoing to be a very good combination for
(15:03):
Wisconsin. What's incredible too about BrittaCarl. Her career is just insane on
the ice. I mean you talkabout you talk about players who will go
down in history as you know, maybe some of the great players in Wisconsin
women's hockey. She's up on thatlist. I mean incredible, I mean
incredible postseason career because she is notlost in the postseason and her record,
(15:28):
I mean, it's just incredible.I mean, like, you go through
the postseason, you've never lost apostseason game in your career. She knows
what it takes to win. Andnow coming back for a sixth year,
I mean she may finish her career, you know, undefeated in the postseason
and you know, get another nationalchampionship on that finger by the time she
(15:50):
leaves the University of Absolutely, SoI'm I'm excited to see what she can
do for Wisconsin one player. Ithink we haven't been Oh yeah, we
didn't even mention Casey obrian year lastyear. She's had a phenomenal two years
for the Badgers and now coming inshe's looking to just keep it going.
(16:10):
And I mean, you talk aboutWisconsin, they've always have had these scorers.
They've always had these great scorers forthis group. You talk about it
with Daryl Watts, you know DarylWatts. Once Darryl Watts left, then
they had Casey O'Brien. Now youlook at it, Casey O'Brien, she's
going to be a senior this year. Once she leaves, then it's gonna
be Caroline Harvey. But Casey O'Brien, I think we everybody's kind of sleeping
(16:33):
on her. Especially with all therecognition that Caroline Harvey got this offseason.
People forget Casey O'Brien. She's gotthat dog in her and she can go
out and score for the Badgers whenneeded. Oh yeah, I mean she
was second team All WCCHA last year. She led the team in points uh
and goals and assists, and shehad she had all three short handed goals
(16:55):
that Wisconsin had last year, allthree, Like incredible, what are the
odds that? What are the oddsof there are three shorthanded goals the team
scores all season and they were allscored by one player. It's it's insane.
Yeah, the numbers that she putsup, leading in points and goals,
and it says she is just allaround the puck and yeah her,
I can't believe we haven't even mentionedher. Yeah, Caroline Harvey, it's
(17:21):
man, that that is quite thetrio. Yeah. And at Casey O'Brien
coming in. She's a senior thisyear, uh under Mark Johnson and that
squad. I mean, she's beenthrough it all. She's won already,
She's already got a national championship onher belt. She's played already with Daryl
Wattson Sophie Shirley, two really tworeally great skaters on the ice. She's
had that mentorship and she's had thatperson to lean on. Now she's going
(17:45):
to be the leader of this groupalong with Britta Carl. But man,
we totally forgot about her in thissituation to start, you know, because
there's so many good players. It'strue about that's the thing, you know,
it's not even forgetting go on her. It's like, oh, well,
we got to talk about Jane jerBay, we gotta we got to
talk about lay Edwards, we gottatalk about Britty Carl, we got to
talk about Caroline Harvey. I mean, it's just it's such a long list.
(18:07):
And that's why. That's why thisteam has won seven national championships.
That's why this team is number onein the preseason poll. That that's why
this team is favored coming into theseason. Yeah, and and and there
a reason why they're number one.Uh and there's there's no there's no way
around it. Wisconsin number one teamin the country. They look to be
the number one team in the countrytonight against Lindenwood. Uh. Here to
(18:33):
start, We're gonna take a quickbreak when we come back. We got
puck dropped coming up Wisconsin looking tobegin their season with a win over Lindenwood.
So don't go anywhere. This isthe Badger Women's Hockey Pregame Show presented
by Goodman Jewelers, The Diamond Storeof Madison, Madison's home for save and
Pushing the Morning WTSL Madison. Weare ten seventy game back here on ten
(19:08):
seventy the game. This is theBadger Women's Ocky Pregame Show presented by Goodman
Jewels, the Diamond Store of Madison. Noah Clark, Dave Gasper, Wisconsin.
We are less than five minutes awayfrom puck trop as the Badgers getting
ready to play Lindenwood. We've alreadytalked a lot about this Badger team.
We talked Caroline Harvey, we gotCasey O'Brien, we got Jane Jervey in
(19:32):
there. Uh, let's talk aboutanother player on this on this Wisconsin Badger
group. Layla Edwards. She hada phenomenal year last year as a freshman,
the sister of Sheila Edwards. Lastyear she came in we didn't really
expect, We didn't know what wewere gonna expect a lot of Badger fans
didn't know what we were, whatthey were going to expect from this team
(19:56):
coming in and my goodness to Chiaplowblew everybody out of the out of the
water with just irrecredible play. Andnow this year, in year two,
she's looking at to just keep goingand going and going. And I mean,
uh, I don't know what moreyou could say about Laila Edwards other
than the fact that man year onewas impressive. I cannot wait to see
(20:18):
what she has in store for usin year two. Yeah. Absolutely,
It just you know, continued improvementfrom from her and you know, playing
all forty one games as a freshmanlast year and just coming in and just
just scoring I mean twenty seven points, thirteen goals, fourteen assists, and
and just coming in as a freshmanon a very loaded, very experienced team
(20:41):
and being able to play so muchright off the bat. Uh w c
H a Rookie of the Year finalist. It just speaks to how good she
was then, and just with withthe developments that Wisconsin is able to develop
players quite well, and they jumpfrom from year one to year two under
Mark Johnson for Layla Edwards I thinkit's gonna be phenomenal. So lots of
(21:04):
big things that I think we canexpect from her, and and just the
contained development and now with with moreopportunities for her being able to play.
You know, she played every singlegame last year, and she's gonna be
able to get plenty of ice timethis year as well. Yeah, and
especially getting to play another year withShayla Edwards two is gonna be very very
(21:26):
exciting for Wisconsin. Uh. Ijust cannot wait to see what she does
for this team. I just cannotwait to see what she does for the
Badgers. And uh, you knowgoing to year too. I mean,
she won a national championship for firstyear or on this team, and you
look at a lot of freshman youtop that. I don't know, how
do you top winning a national championshipsas a freshman potectual Patty kaz do it
(21:49):
again, Do it again, doit again. That that's how you top
it. You do it two yearsin a row. There you go,
or getting and potentially get your namein the Patty Kaza Awards. That would
also help get finishes a Patty Castfinalist and maybe win the Patty Cast too,
because there's been a lot of playersin that program that have won.
Uh the Patty Cass so very excitingstuff with Wisconsin. Uh, Shaila Edwards
(22:14):
also coming back. She's gonna beuh coming in as a senior. A
lot of question marks a lot ofpeople. You know, I was even
questioning this too because you look atWisconsin. Honestly, I thought that they
were gonna they were gonna have togo and rebuild this team, particularly on
the defensive side, and really, you know, with that experience, gonna
(22:37):
be all gone. Uh. ShailaEdwards, I don't think would have was
gonna come back, but she cameback, and that's even that's even bigger
for this Wisconsin Badger's team. Andnow you'll look at it. I mean,
they've got a young decor, andI think it's perfect for Shila Edwards
as well. Uh, for thisdecor because they've got a young They've got
a lot of young players on thissquad. You got Ava Murphy coming in
(23:00):
as a freshman. You've got LancyLady Potter coming in as a freshman as
well. You know Anna Willgren who'scoming in. Maybe she might not know
the system that well under Mark Johnson. But out of all the players on
that defensive group, Shayla Edwards hasthe most experience and she could provide the
most leadership to this team. Yeah, absolutely, And just that that's we're
coming in as an experienced player atMinnesota State, which is, you know,
(23:23):
no slouch of a program, andbeing the captain over there. So
I think that that's gonna be greathaving her to come in and just being
so strong defensively, you know, even though they lose some experience, you
know, both on defense and andwith the forwards as well. But but
they have some really great players tocome in and step up, and and
(23:44):
that's what we I think we canexpect to see from them. It's gonna
be some new names. You know, we're not going to have the same
old names that we're gonna be sayingthe Sophie Shirley's and the Nicole La Montillas
and those. But these new namesthey're gonna be just as good, maybe
even better, who knows. Yeah, and who knows. Wisconsin and Lindenwood
(24:06):
coming up here. We're gonna takea quick break when we come back.
We're gonna get puck drop here. This is uh, this is the Wisconsin
Badgers pregame Hockey Show presented by GoodmanJewelers The Diamond Store of Madison. This
(24:29):
is Badger Women's Hockey presented by GoodmanJewelers, the Diamond Store of Madison.
We get you in the pregame here, Wisconsin gonna be playing Lindenwood in just
a few minutes. The Badgers lookingto go one and zero against Lindenwood.
This is gonna be a very fungame to watch. The Lindenwood lines already
have played two games on their schedule, but hopefully we can go to three
(24:55):
and ozh. Wisconsin has been thevictor in a lot of these matchups year
to start, so that'll be somethingto look for as well. Noah Clark
alongside Dave Gasper. We just hadthe pregame show, or we continue on
with our pregame show, but Wisconsinhere, Dave is coming in coming into
(25:18):
a game. You know where we'vesaid, you know, if you want
a little tune up of a game, that's a tune up. The first
game always has a lot of nerves. There's a lot of anxiety coming in,
you know, because you don't knowwhat your team is going to see,
because you know you're coming in offof a practice where you've played against
each other for I don't know howmany how many weeks, how many months,
how many hours, how many seconds, and now you're going up against
(25:42):
somebody that's not your team, andyou know there could be a little bit
of pressure, a little bit ofstressed. What are your what are we
thinking from the Badgers here tonight againstLyndwood Yeah, I think for them,
I think this is gonna be agreat way for them to start the season.
And you know against linden Woody aswe've talked about all time record of
when you want to know against themand just a plus one twenty gold differential
(26:07):
for for Wisconsin. So I thinkit's a great way to start off the
season. And Wisconsin usually does youknow, play Lyndon one here, you
know, early on, and it'sa great way for them to get going
and maybe kind of do a littlebit of a soft launch of the season,
kind of kind of like preseason forfor other sports. No not,
I don't want to like take toomuch away from Lyndon what I just talked
(26:30):
out, like like they're like it'snot mattering, but still I think for
for a lot of these players, you know, a lot of them have
played at this at this kind oflevel before. They've played in national championship
games, all the returning players andand even even the freshman even the young
players coming in. I mean alot of them playing in the ii hf
(26:51):
U eighteen World Championships uh last year, as as as prep players and playing
in the gold medal game either foror for Team USA or Team Canada in
the case of Ava Murphy. Sothey've they're not new to pressure. So
I think for a game like justopening season against Linda Wood, even though
(27:12):
there maybe some Butterflies just opening upa new season, I think they'll be
in a pretty good spot. Yeah, And that's the one thing we also
haven't even talked about because you lookat this group, I mean a lot
of the freshman that played that playedon this Badger team have played at lebon
Ice Arena. You look at it. Ava Murphy won a gold medal,
(27:33):
so that'll be something to look forwardto as well, along with a lot
of other players on this Badger squad. So they've had that experience of playing
at lebon even you know, beforethey got to Wisconsin. So now it's
all gonna be put to the testhere for the Badgers tonight against the Lions.
(27:55):
So Wisconsin coming in to the regularseason, hopefully they will get a
win. We're gonna take a quickbreak when we come back. We got
puck drop coming here, Wisconsin versusLindenwood. This is Badge Women's Hockey presented
by Goodman Jewelers, The Diamond Storeof Madison, Wisconsin and Lyndenwood. This
(28:27):
is Badger Women's Hockey presented by GoodmanJewelers, the Diamond Store of Madison.
Noah Clark. We are just momentsaway from puck drop. Wisconsin and Lindenwood,
a big, big matchup for theBadgers. They begin their play tonight
and Wisconsin. I'm gonna go oneand oh here to start. As we
(28:49):
get the puck drop in Wisconsin andLindenwood are underway. Lindenwood wins the face
off, Lions take it into thezone. Good movement around from the Lions.
This one puck gets taken out andit will be held Badgers with good
movements so far. This one goessent down and it will be an icing
(29:15):
call and I will have a faceoff coming up. Wisconsin winning that face
off and then it will be setback down Lynnwood will get the puck.
They'll move it around. Now itgoes to goth out of Henderson. I'll
(29:36):
move it in. Here's a shoton Gervai. That one goes wide and
Wisconsin coming back the other way, brett a Curl two on one shot goes
I and that one is up andout of playing a face off coming up
base off one by the Badgers andbrett a Curl holds it, lost it
(30:02):
and it will go back to Lyndenwoodand the Lions racing down the other way.
That puck gets taken away. Goodpoke check by Vivian Jungles and the
Badgers will start their run. Wisconsindefensively. Last year they had a very
experienced score and Nicole while Montilla waspart of that group and they lose her
(30:25):
one of the big key parts thatdecorp but they got Shayla Edwards back and
that is a big, big boostfor Wisconsin. As this puck goes back
into the Badger's zone. Wasnevich holdsit now moves it up, tried to
get a pass to Curl and itdoesn't work. Or actually that's Picard who
tried to get it under stick. And that one goes around the boards.
(30:47):
Wisconsin gonna get back. Here's ashot on and that one is blocked,
great blocked by great block by Ferns, and a battle on the boards resumes.
Wisconsin trying to keep it down intothe Lindenwood zone. Cautlowski a little
movement, a little maneuver around inference, makes the save and we'll have a
(31:12):
face off coming up. Both teamsmaking line changes. Mark Johnson and this
squad a lot of a lot ofchanges for this group. They have a
lot of inexperience now, a lotof freshmen, a lot of sophomores coming
in from the group that they hadlast year. So that'll be something to
(31:33):
look for. Face off one byWisconsin. Will Grin gets it back up
top. Here's a shot and thatis just why. That was a great
block, and now Lindenwood back onthe defensive end and a great pup check
reps one or Wisconsin. Well it'sup only not gonna get one and the
badger is racing the other way.How into the Lindenwood zone is O'Brien taken
(31:56):
away and Lindenwood trying to keep itin. There's now strolling away by Layla
Edwards and now Poora lost it forLindenwood. Here comes Wisconsin racing the other
way is Caroline Harvey. Harvey lookingfor a cross sized pass at doesn't go.
No connection there, Gorba Tenko movesit around, Gorbet Tenko back to
(32:21):
Sims. Now here's a shot fromEdwards that's blocked. Layla Edwards setting it
back around, goes to Sims.Sims fires it on our deflection that is
set back out and Will Grin getsit back. They'll move it up to
Harvey. Harvey little flick pass curlszips it around Wisconsin making a line change
(32:45):
and Lindenwood just trying to hold theirbreath and get something out of this.
Wisconsin turns it back. Kenn. Here's a shot that is just wide that
was blocked. Actually, Lacey Edenhad a good shot from up top of
the crease. And here's a shotfrom Eating again up II. Sconts getting
the rebound and they'll move it.Cassie Hall. Now here's a shot that's
(33:06):
fired on still loose town in thecrease and finally held Sheyla Edwards with an
ic little shot and was Scotson holdson to it down here I'm in the
offensive zone and just being able tohold it down there and getting a bunch
of shots on goal. And Wisconsinjust putting the pressure on Lindenwood early Badgers
(33:28):
against Lindenwood in the last year, these two teams met. A lot of
pressure was put on to start. We've seen this from Mark Johnson and his
teams. They liked to get thepressure going early and like to go really
quick. Here's a shot fired onthat's just why Edwards getting the rebound.
Now sending it back deep into theLindenwood zone, taken away. That one's
taken away, and Lindenwood moving thepuck back down and it looks like it
(33:53):
will be and Ice saying and no, they're gonna wave it off. Lions
will get a chance here or willthey? Jackal tried to control it.
Now sends it back up top toMcLaren. McLaren battling in the boards and
now here comes Eden now racing alongwith Maddie Wheeler and now taken away at
(34:15):
two on one for linden Wood.A shot on golf for Gervais and she
stops that one. Great stuff fromJane Gervai and Wisconsin going back the other
way, here's Maddie Wheeler, Wheelerlooking fires blocked and Lindenwood controls it,
Jackal sending it back down, whistlecoming and will this be an icing it
(34:37):
will and we'll have a faceoff downin the Lion zone. And Lindenwood had
a couple good opportunities at two onone that was stopped by Jane Gervais.
Really good stuff from the Badgers faceoff. One taken back up top by
(35:00):
a Murphy, now fired on byw Nevitch. That's wide there, I
was Knevitch almost had a chance atit for the first goal of the season.
And here's Murphy and I'll move itaround and fires and Navis can't get
it. The rebounds still there,Murphy chasing it, gets the chase on
the rebound, Wisconsin moving it back. Get again. Here's Potter now back
(35:24):
up to Murphy. Now tow wasNevitch Now back to Murphy or excuse me,
that's actually Potter. Potter being pesteredat and that one is taken out
of the zone. Wisconsin controlling itso far early. Here's Picard racing in
fires just a bit wide. Badger'son the aggressive attack. That one's sent
(35:47):
back around Kottlowski, gonna get it, battling in the boards, Kottlowski with
Hicky and that shot is blocked.Good save made by Ferrens and Wisconsin still
looking for that first elusive goal.Puck cleared out, no stolen away and
a chance for Kotlowski on an icelittle pass, no good. Wisconsin holding
(36:09):
on to it now Harvey will slowit down, Harvey weaving firing no good
and sent back out. Badgers doinga very good job here to keep this
puck in the zone, and itis showing very well. They have controlled
it very well to start a lotof teams in terms of possession. Here's
Harvey looking for a cross ice passand almost a good shot made. I
(36:31):
believe that was Jungles who had achance at that. Battling in the boards
and finally back out to center ice. Here comes here comes Sims racing around,
Sims, firing on no good. She gets her own rebound though,
(36:55):
and Sims looking oh, good defense. That was a great defensive play by
Sarah Davies, and Wisconsin has toregroup. Caroline Harvey tried to carry it
into the zone and O'Brien just sendsit back down Edwards try to wait for
it, couldn't do it, andthe Lions racing back up the other way.
Now going with the puck. Hereis Jorgenson. Jorgenson lost it,
(37:19):
but able to get there is Corbinbat on the boards. Wisconsin takes it
away yet again. Three on two, a little mismatch. Here's a chance
to Simms and a save me,but a penalty coming up. Hand is
up by the official, and wewill have a stoppage of play, and
this is gonna be on Lyndenwood.Wisconsin keeps going on the play here and
(37:45):
the Badgers have an extra skater outthere, and now a three on one,
racing on in looking for Sims. Here's Edwards firing that is just no
good and at taken back out ofthe zone. Syla Edwards now it and
now here's Simms now going to O'Briennow weaving in and a shot and a
(38:08):
save again by Ferrets. And thispuck will it be stopped? It will,
and we finally will have our firstpenalty and our first power play of
the game. So Wisconsin gonna goto the power play for the first time
the night. And it couldn't havecame at a bigger moment here in this
(38:30):
game, with eight oh two leftto go in the first period. Yeah,
wasn't it just amazing run for Wisconsinbeing able to hold onto the puck
for that long and the defense justabsolutely has to be gassed for linden what
I mean, they were not ableto get much of a change and just
trying to hold on and just preventthe goal. They did such a good
job. There were so many shotson goal from Wisconsin during that whole run
(38:54):
and for them to be able tohold off and still keep it zero zero
so far all the Wisconsin. Nowwith the power play, it's gonna be
much tougher for linden Wood and we'regonna take a quick break when we come
back. Wisconsin on the power play. This is Badger Women's Hockey presented by
Goodman Jewelers, the Diamond Store ofMadison, Wisconsin. On the power play
(39:17):
to start, Badger's coming in abig part here. They've been on the
attack early to start. Hopefully cancontinue this attack. They win the face
off, they take it into thezone. They'll move it around here.
Good movement. Now it's Harvey movesit to Edwards Layla Edwards now getting it
(39:39):
on the stick. Here is Simsoff of Eaton's stick. Harvey not a
Sims. Sims holding it waiting fora shot, couldn't find it. Badger's
trying to control it. Cannot doit. They luckily are able to get
it back though, and it's Harveyback up top two Sims or Eating back
up top the Sims and goes backto Harvey. That shot was just a
(39:59):
ba high Eat and holds it noweat and waiting fires just a bit too.
How she was trying to get thatcorner spot and no good. Wisconsin
regroups. They're gonna hold it.Sims back. Now here's a shot from
Sheila Edwards. No good and Edwardstried to take a shot and Edwards pass
it back out to Sims. Simmsgets her rebound, Sims holding it up.
(40:22):
Thirty seconds left on this power play. Shaila Edwards holds it looking for
an opening, Edwards weaving, Edwardslooking eating fires good block by Lyndon Wood
and Edwards holds it back Edwards lookingfor an opening, Edwards weaving fires and
that one was off the board anda rebound on a wrapper around. It's
no good and now here's another chance. No good to get off the iron
(40:45):
for Britta Carl. Oh my goodness, Kristen Simms and Britta Carl had an
opportunity, and now Wisconsin a slapshot that is saved. Wow, what
a play by Natalie Ferris Anddwood's ableto kill the power play and Wisconsin still
has the puck in their own.I can't believe this. Here's a cross
(41:06):
size pass that is just wide andgoodness, and Picard holds it up right
now. Edwards fires up top. That is no good. Wisconsin getting the
rebound, a little shot at awrap around that's no good, and they'll
try and send it back out.Hickey has been trying to dump it for
ages. Shayla Edwards getting it uptop. Edwards fires that one's block,
(41:31):
Layla Edwards gets it, Edwards racingEdwards, little move Edwards far as in
they score. Leyla Edwards gets thefirst goal for the Batchers, and how
a bat Then Wisconsin very aggressive onthe offensive end and they finally get one
(41:57):
to go through ed it's Layla Edwardswho gets the score started. Oh man,
just a relentless assault from the Wisconsinoffense. I mean, that was
a ridiculous amount of time in theoffensive zone, Layla Edwards getting Wisconsin on
the board and a face off comingup here, and what a time for
the Badgers. They have been onthe power play, linden would it looked
(42:21):
like they were gonna kill it.And now here's another chance and another shot,
and that one was almost in.All that almost went in again,
and Lyndon went back on the offensiveattack. Rorick looking set that high and
that one goes out of play, and I believe we have a whistle,
(42:43):
yep, and we have got awhistle and a stoppage of playing a faceoff
coming up at center ice. Butmy goodness, what about how about this
aggressive attack here so far day? This has been impressive from what Wisconsin has
started with. Lindenwood needs to finda way to be able to clear or
the defensive zone there. I mean, they need to get a clear and
(43:04):
Wisconsin wins that face off. Racingin his piccard wasn't Evitch stops, now
starts again. She's getting pestered atin the back there by Piora, by
Poora, and they'll move it backaround. They do get it back.
Shaila Edwards calling for the buck. He'sn't gonna get it, Pacard gonna get
it on her stick. Picard racingaround looking for Sheila Edwards. Find Shayla
(43:30):
Edwards. Nice little move from Edwardslooking down low in the crease and faris
lost it. And what are theygonna call They gonna call it another one.
It's two nothing Badgers. Oh mygoodness, I didn't see her that
wet, but my goodness, itwas insanity down in the crease. And
the Badgers extend their lead to tonothing here in the first period. Yeah,
(43:54):
finally this relentless assault on offense isyielding some some goal here. I
mean, they've been getting so manyshots on Gold nothing was able to go
in. And finally they're able topierce through the armor of Lyndon Wood's defense.
And they've got them so tired thatthey just keep getting through. And
the face off coming up. Wisconsinwins that face off and Lindenwood is able
(44:19):
to get a turnover. They'll sendit down into the other side. Rorick
now going to to knock up andlost it was sconsin controls it back.
They'll move it around now, they'llget it out of the zone of their
end. And here comes Wisconsin LaceyEden looking for a pass from Bretta Carl
can't get it there, and ourrace for Avra Murphy. She wins that
(44:43):
race, able to control it andMurphy looking for Haul. Murphy stops now
starts looking for a pass, findsa pass to Lacy Eden and how Bretta
Carl can't get it on the stickof Hall. She took a shot at
the end there and Hall stumbling tothe ice. Was Scott sin controlling it.
Badger's early on and even through thisfirst period, I've been on the
(45:07):
offensive attack, but barages. Here'sanother shot and a rebound and a save
that is made by Farrish, andthat one was Haul and so we got
another faceoff coming up. But mygoodness, the Badgers with two quick goals
to begin this first period. TheBadgers have twenty three shots on goal against
(45:32):
Lindenwood right now, lendon Wood haszero against Wisconsin. That is, it's
quite insane when you think about thestart for this Badger team. Faceoff one
by Lyndon when they're gonna send itdown icing what's called. Badgers were able
to get it back though, asthis puck goes trickling down and it will
be an icing this time for Wisconsin. So we will have a faceoff in
(45:57):
the Lindenwood zone or in the Wisconsinzone, and this is an opportunity for
Lyndon Wood to get some points. But Wisconsin's defense been very good at shutting
down teams in their zone. I'dalmost be surprised if this puck lasts longer
than ten seconds in the zone.It gets Wisconsin, and so the Badgers.
(46:19):
That last goal was nailed by SarahWaznevitch. She gets her first goal
of the season. Wisconsin wins theface off, they'll move it now.
Here comes Laila Edwards racing on in. Edwards trying to go down low.
Couldn't get it in almost a chance. That one was saved by Ferris and
Edward's gonna hold it. Bodies collidingdown to the boards. Here's curl back
(46:44):
up to Harvey, a little pass, a tip through no good and Will
Grin gets it now looking waiting firenow O'Brian Edwards trying to get it or
Kristen Sims trying to get it,Bodies tumbling down in the crease. Puck's
still loose there and I'll sending itback out his Eton Sims, Simms racing
in. Sim's holding it Sim's backhand. It passed to Caroline Harvey. Harvey
(47:07):
try to get it, and Idon't believe Ava Murphy was ready for that
pass. And it ends up beinga turnover and Lyndon would gonna get it
right back and they'll dump it.And oh, was Nabbage, Body's tumbling.
Oh look out, body's tumbling downon the floor. And now here
comes Picard racing in Picard, sowatching that much fires On was Nabbage gets
(47:29):
the rebound looking for Shelah Edwards. She finds Shelah Edwards, Edwards looking fires
was n Ebbage down low, couldn'tget it and how finally cleared again by
linden Wood. And will this bean icing Yes it will, and we
will have a face off coming upin the lion zone. But man,
(47:50):
there was a lot of chaos andcalamity down in the crease and all of
a sudden Linda would able to clearit. But man, Wisconsin has been
relentless to start and a very goodsign for what you want to see for
Mark Johnson and this squad face offcoming. Wisconsin wins it again. A
chance here up top for Shayla Edwards. That one goes wide. Maddie Wheeler
(48:13):
picks it up. Now was Nvitchgets it now sends it back to Wheeler.
Wheeler stopping with the brakes starting,Maddie Wheeler looking for a pass,
trying to find a pass, findsone to jungles that one was blocked.
Great saved by Ferris and here comesEdwards fires in on that one is blocked.
Shayla Edwards dumping it back around, now goes to the car that one
(48:34):
was lost and now take it away. A lot of play has gone down
here in the Badger zone and I'mlosing a little bit of breath as I
keep going. Badgers trying to keepit alive, Lennenwood trying to send it.
They can't do it, and thatone will it be trickled out?
It will not. Was sconsin gonnahold it back up and the Badgers trying
(48:54):
to keep it into their zone andit goes out of play and we will
have a face off coming up.My goodness, Dave, what run a
relentless play from Wisconsin to start. This has been what we've seen from Mark
Johnson in a lot of these firstperiods. And they've already got two goals,
one from Moznevitch, and one fromLayla Edwards. Face off won this
(49:19):
time by Lindenwood. They'll send itback out immediately turned over and it goes
right back. Gorbet Tenko dumps itinto the Lindenwood zone. Lynden Would got
to send it back out. Madger'strying to get it, Kolowski lost stolen
away, McLaren racing on in.McLaren trying to go in on Gervais,
and a great defensive play was made. I believe was that Shayla Edwards or
(49:43):
was that Carolina Harvey that made that. Here's a nice little passa two on
one, a nice little flick fromgorbat Tenko and no good Kotlowski tried to
get the rebound, couldn't finish andit will be sent back down and a
whistle And that is how the firstperiod is going to end. And Wisconsin
(50:04):
here at the end of this firstSarah was Nevitch and Layla Edwards getting the
first two goals for the Badgers andMark Johnson liking what he's seeing so far
from this team. Dave, hedefinitely got to be happy after a two
oh star, absolutely absolutely exactly whatWisconsin was looking for. Just a relentless
assault on offense and a great wayto get that first period going. We're
(50:27):
gonna be right back. We're gonnatake a quick break. When we come
back, we're gonna bring the firstintermission. This is the Badger Women's hockey.
This is Badger Women's Hockey, presentedby Goodman Jewelers. The Diamond Store
of Madison is the Badger Women's Hockey. Intermission presented by Goodman Jewelers. That
(50:53):
Diamond Store Madison was Scotson to LyndonWood. Nothing, Clark, Dave gasper
here, Uh, this has beenan interesting first period. Sarah Waznevitch with
the second goal of the game, and Leyla Edwards getting the first one to
start this season for the Badgers.Oh my goodness, Dave, this was
(51:14):
an incredible first period from the Badgers, and and just it was relentless,
relentless work from what Mark Johnson did. I mean, I don't even think
if I'm looking on the stat sheet, I don't even think linden Wood got
a shot off in that first period, not a single shot on goal.
Just looking at the stats here, twenty eight shots on goal for Wisconsin,
zero for lindon Wood. Shots ingeneral, Wisconsin had fifty four fifty four
(51:39):
shots in the first period. LindenWood had three. That's none of my
goal. Everything else is just completezeros for for Lindenwood, it has been
just just completely lopsided. Wisconsin haswon fifteen faceoffs, lindon Wood just four.
(51:59):
I mean, the only the onlycategory that lendon Wood is beating Wisconsin
in is blocked shots because they're sofunny to get in front of Wisconsin.
Wisconsin's got one blocked shot of thethree linden Wood has. Wisconsin's blocked one
of them the other the other twoweren't even on goal. That's that's how
lopsided that first period just was.Yeah, and Scott, I mean,
(52:22):
you could say so much and wehaven't even seen uh all the scoring from
this Badger team yet. Third,it surprises me too when we're talking about
all this stuff and yet it's stilltoo nothing. There's still a lot to
improve from this Badger team. Whatdo you think they got to do better
in this coming into this second periodhere, Maybe score a higher percentage of
(52:42):
their shots. I mean that's kindof I mean, you look at the
shot category, fifty four shots, only two goals come on you know,
like let's let's step it up here. But I mean that's that's really kind
of it. I Mean, LyndonWood has had almost no time in the
offensive zone. Nothing. Every timethey get it in there, within fifteen
seconds it's gone. Wisconsin has apuck back and they're taking it back on
(53:07):
offense and Lyndon Wood just just can'tget anything going. They can't get any
time to change their lines because becausethey're always on defense and Wisconsin just holds
it in the zone for so long. I mean, they gotta be gassed.
I mean they're gonna be using everysecond of this intermission to try and
just get water and and just restbecause they Wisconsin just kept putting it to
(53:30):
Lyndon Wood. And I think forWisconsin, I mean, the one thing
you want to look for from theBadgers the second period is just take your
time. And you know, ona couple of shots, they kind of
rushed in a bit of those plays, you know, and when they were
trying to set up their offense, they kind of rushed a bit. And
if they settled it down a littlebit and get generate some passes, there'll
be some openings coming up for theBadgers. Here, so hopeful stuff.
(53:54):
Earlier this week, we had achance to interview Britta Curl Britta Cura earlier.
That's gonna be coming up after break. But Wisconsin going up here against
Lindenwood, they're they're looking at comingin and get another sweep here, but
they're looking to get their first winon the score category. So we're gonna
(54:14):
take a quick break. When wecome back, We're gonna have Britta Curl
for you on the interview. Uh. This is the Badger Women's Hockey Intermission
presented by Goodman Jewelers, the DiamondStore of Madison. Noah Clark here talking
with Britta Curl with skaters for theWisconsin women's hockey team. Bretta, it's
(54:38):
so great to have you here onthe show. It's so great to have
you here today. How does itfeel coming back for your sixth year at
the University Wisconsin and getting to playfor the Wisconsin Badgers here. Yeah,
I'm super excited. I'm very luckythat I get an extra year here.
You know, it seems like I'vebeen here a long time, but it
goes super fast, so I'm gonnatry to soak in this last one.
(55:01):
You hadn't have fun this year.Looking at the history of Wisconsin, there's
been so many great skaters over theyears, your name is probably gonna go
down in that history as well, and especially with the career you've had here
at Wisconsin. I mean just incrediblenumbers. I mean undefeated in the postseason.
You have not lost a postseason matchup, Really incredible. Mark, tell
(55:25):
me about you know, the youknow the experience of winning, and just
how amazing it is, you know, knowing that this your last year,
this your last ride, and whatthat's feeling. What, what what's going
through your head here for for youin your sixth year. Yeah, I've
just been really blessed to be onsome amazing teams. I think all of
(55:45):
our success is really special, andI'm excited this last year to you know,
try to continue that legacy, tryto build upon this program. I
think we have a really good teamthis year and I'm excited to show everyone
what we have and hopefully we cancontinue that success that we've had. Awesome
And then last question for you here, this year's core A lot of young
(56:12):
talent coming in. You've got alot of young skaters, a lot of
incredible skaters, as well looking atlast year's core two, last year's core
was much more of an experienced core. Tell me you know this year,
what's the difference from this year's coreto last year's core Because last year you
was a young was born in anexperienced corps and a lot of talent on
(56:37):
that squad. This year, it'sa lot of a younger group. You
have a lot of freshmen, alot of sophomores coming into their second year
with this group. What are weseeing from this squad this year? Yeah,
I mean I think obviously we lostsome big veterans this year, but
you just look at our young talentcoming up to sophomores this year. They
were super impactful in the postseason andjust having that year of experience out of
(57:00):
their belt is huge for us.They're gonna, you know, take on
a little more leadership and I thinkthey're gonna bring that same fire for this
year. And then also our freshmancome in look really good and I think
they're gonna make an impact early. It should be interesting to watch our goalies
and see how they fight it out. But it's gonna be fun just to
(57:20):
see a new team. Awesome.Thank you, Britta, Thank you very
much. Back here for the startof the second period. Wisconsin two,
Lindenwood one. This is Badge Women'sOccy presented by Goodman Jewelers the Diamond Store
of Madison, Wisconsin. After anincredible after it just a barrage of attacks
(57:46):
in that first period. Two goalsscored, one from the first one from
Layla Edwards and the second one fromSarah Waznevitch. It's a two nothing game.
But uh, if this is thisis very very interesting because Wisconsin,
you know, we talked about usin the intermission. It feels like it
should be ten nothing. Yeah, with the way Wisconsin was was shooting,
(58:09):
and now you look at it,they begin this second period here. This
is gonna be interesting to see whatthe Badgers will do. Yeah, absolutely,
especially with the Lindenwood defense being probablygassed. I mean they probably wish
us intermission would last another you know, ten twenty minutes and just giving their
legs some rest because they were outthere a long time doing a lot of
(58:30):
defending. And it's just been arelentless assaultant and a lot of shots,
a lot of shots on goal.So it's it's great to see for Wisconsin,
especially early on in the season asa lot of these players are just
you know, kind of getting theirlegs under them getting started. But uh,
you know, for a while itwas really I suppose, you know,
(58:52):
talk enough defense, you know, with a lot of blocks for uh
for for Lindenwood and just being ableto hold Wisconsin off from scoring for a
pretty good chunk there of the firstperiod. But eventually that relentless assault is
going to find a hole and piercethrough, and hopefully it does. Maybe
Lyndon would get to go here, but we will see good start for the
(59:13):
Badgers defense as well. They didnot give up a shot on goal in
that first period. There was fortysix shots from Wisconsin, three from Lindenwood.
Zero on Jane Gervay, she's probablyboard back there. Would I would
be at the board like like maybeit's kind of fun, Like I'm just
standing there and just watching watching everyoneon the offensive ends like no one's gonna
(59:36):
come over by me, Okay, fine by me, Yeah, just a
little bit. So here we go. Got a face off, and the
face off one by Wisconsin. Badgerswill take the play, getting tough there
and Lindenwood outcoming aggressively on the attack. Is Wilgren got that stolen immediately and
now pour Us sends it down intothe zone, winning for it is Wilgren
(01:00:00):
Wolgren little flick of a pass thatgoes to Leila Edwards in trouble, stumbling
to the ice, couldn't get itback, and now Lyndon one on the
other end, here comes a raceand I'm miss to Sarah Davies. She's
able to chase it back and Davieswill send it back looking for a cross
ice Passtown law on jan Gervay.I believe Sarah Dravis this time almost had
(01:00:23):
a shot and sheet did and thatwas a bit wide. Maybe I spoke
too soon over there, just alittle bit of an announcer's jinx. But
Wisconsin will play on that one actuallytrickles down and it will be an icing
So Wisconsin we'll have a face offand linden Wood will have a face off
down to the Badger's zone for thefirst time. I think this is only
(01:00:43):
the second time we've had to saythat here tonight. But Lindenwood gets the
face off and taking this face off, Molly Henderson going up against Casey O'Brien
face off one Jung sends that backaround. Now goes to Harvey. That
one trickled back. Harvey dumping itdoes get it back. Now a little
(01:01:07):
move racing in now is Edwards.Edwards looking, oh, almost a chance
for Vivian Jungles, and she couldn'tconnect it. When that book trickles back
out Eaton trying to race for it. Edwards gets it back. Can it
pass? Lacy Eden gets it,waiting for it, now being pecked at
by Molly Henderson. And that onegets sent down. Here's Britta Curl fires
(01:01:27):
that on. That one's too Iand that one goes back down the other
way, Wisconsin racing to it.Lacey Eden gets it now we'll start her
run. Now passes it to Jungles. Jungles lost that one not a curl
now racing up the other way.Good movement racing around is all that she
can't get it, Oh my goodness, though speechless on that one. And
(01:01:47):
now that goes back to Lyndenwood hereand Poora trying to dump it, can't
clear it. Haul looking for apass to eat and can't find that pass.
And now she has trouble right there, Poora in trouble. And now
she'll dish it a goff and curlsending it the other way. Not a
hayne, Hayne lost it. Nowgoing to eating that one is taken back
(01:02:10):
by Jackal Jacko, battling on theboard, sent back around. Lyndon would
just trying to control it and cannotdo it. And now here's hall and
a whistle and a stoppage of play. They're gonna call a high stick and
so we will have a face offcoming up. But my goodness, a
(01:02:30):
lot of a good start for Lyndenwin in this second period. Wisconsin though
on the attack man, they areplaying very aggressively based off one Mattie Wheeler
can't get it a little backhead itpassed that one stolen away. Potter tries
to chase it. She does winthat chase. She makes up for it.
Good job by Wisconsin. Badgers willtake it and now racing back towards
(01:02:53):
it, and I will whistle anda stoppage of play as if we have
and off signs and a face offcoming up. Yeah, Lyndon would definitely
being a bit more on the attackhere to start the second period. Looking
to make some changes coming out ofthe intermission, and so far they've been
able to get the puck a lotmore often than we saw on the first
first period face offt one here isCaroline Harvey sends it to Murphy. Now
(01:03:21):
Maddie Wheeler gets it. Wheeler tryingto race around, can't get it.
Now, Jorganson sends it around theother way. Wisconsin trying to clear it.
Badgers trying to get something going,or actually Lyndon would trying to clear
it, Wisconsin trying to get somethinggoing. In the end, Ama Murphy
gets it, Murphy sending it,and it will be and icing and we'll
(01:03:43):
have a face off coming up downin the Badger zone once again. So
Wisconsin early on, it's been alot of dumping and chasing, but Lindenwood
seems like they've found their legs. But Wisconsin really doing a good job more
in terms of passing. They've hada couple opportunities, have not been able
to capitalize yet though, and MarkJohnson digging deeper into this line. As
(01:04:06):
we've seen Potter and Maddie Wheeler gettingsome more opportunities. They soft one Wheeler
races out of the pack with it, that takes it in the Lindenwood zone.
That one's stolen away Jorgensen will getit for Lindenwood, and now she
sends it stolen, intercepted, takenaway by Picard. Picard tried to cross
(01:04:27):
sizes past it. That one wasblocked by Rourick and now racing to its
Roarick in the zone, lost it, taken away by Vivian Jungles, dupping
it away official as his hand up. Wisconsin will get it. Vivian Jungles
made a nice little move. Nowshe races in looking for a little pass
at fine one and at one shotand just a bit off and a bit
(01:04:47):
wide. Body's tumbling into the board. Kotlowski racing to it, getting her
own puck and Wisconsin controlling it.I'm back up to Edwards, now to
Jungles, fires on just a bitwhy the rebound recovered by Wisconsin. Now
back up top, back to Jungles. Jungles stopping waiting, looking fired on
(01:05:09):
by Helgason. That's no good andHelguson gets the rebound. Nice little back
end it pass a shot fired onno good again and that time was Gorbattenko.
He's had a couple opportunities and nothingbeen able to capitalize. Wisconsin holding
it down to the zone. Gorbetenkostopping looking for Kotlowski and can't control it
(01:05:30):
there she gets it taken away andthat one is stolen by Hayne and Hayne
will dump it. Wisconsin gonna getit, Lennyone's gonna make a line change
now racing here, Shayla Edwards tLela Edwards cross size pass looking for Wheeler
as save me by Ferris and ashot that will go and will be a
face off coming up for Wisconsin.Yeah, Wisconsin getting the puck a lot
(01:05:55):
more now on the offensive end ofLindenwood and they've been able to turn it
around and Lenda what They had agood start to this period, but Wisconsin
is just overpowering him. Now O'Briento win this face off against poor up
and it will be taken back tocenter. Rice Murphy lost it taken away
(01:06:19):
once again. Jorgenson stolen. Shegot her lunch money taken away. Oh,
Brian gets it back now, lookinggood move from Sims, Sims fires
and sick stars. What a movefrom Kristen Sims. Oh my goodness,
what a thing of beauty had It'sthree nothing Badgers. What an incredible shot
(01:06:44):
by Sims, just able to skateover into the open line, no one
in front of her, straight shoton the goal and beats the goal tender
glove side over the top and justrattles in. Third goal of the day
for Wisconsin. And Wisconsin starting topour it on now. Kristen Simms going
up top bar where the kiddies can'tget it. Face off one and Edwards
(01:07:09):
will get it for Wisconsin. Sheloses that one. Lendonwood trying to control
it, can't do it right there. Potter stolen away now dumped back down.
Jorgenson will send it back. Wisconsingets it racing in is Lacy Eden.
Eden lost it back at center, writes that ghost back down. Wisconsin
(01:07:29):
chasing at Potter. Gervais stops itnow. Potter sends it back to Layla
Edwards. Edwards going our haul tryingto race to it. Can't win that
race, and an icing is calledand we will have another face off coming
up. Wisconsin, just further puttingit to Lindenwood here and just keeping the
(01:07:55):
pressure on on offense and lennon Wood'sdefense just is not getting a break.
Face off one from Wisconsin and theBadgers will get it. Bred A Curl
tries to control it. Here's ashot that goes from Rachel Golf. It
went through curls sticks, She couldn'tcontrol it, and now luckily Wisconsin gets
it back off that deflection. Edwardstries to take it in his zone,
(01:08:18):
can't do it, and a whistleand a stoppage of play and another face
offt coming up. I believe thatwe're gonna have another penalty coming up.
Yeah, it looks like a hooking, just trying to get it there because
Wisconsin just pulling it in on theoffensive end and lennon Wood's defense panic hooked
(01:08:40):
her and referee saw it and calledthe penalty. Face off coming up,
and that one is one by Wisconsin. Wisconsin. This is her second power
play of the night, and Lindenwoodkilled that first one. One of the
things Wisconsin struggled with last year waspower plays, and then down in the
stretch the season they were really oneof the best teams in tournament play for
(01:09:02):
pop plays. Here's Edwards, Edwardsracing in, nice little pass, goes
to Eden, holds it fires on. That's saved. Or Will Grin actually
will get the rebound and gets toeating up top. No good. Will
Grin had a chance from a passfrom Eden. Here's Wheeler takes it.
(01:09:24):
Wheeler waiting looking now fires a passto wassn'evitch. Now goes to Wheeler.
Now down low and another chance. That's no good. Puck still loose down
in the crease, still fighting forit and Wisconsin trying to control it.
And our bodies come together in asafe made by Ferris, and we will
have a face off coming up.There was a lot of chaos down in
(01:09:46):
the crease and now Wisconsin, we'llhave a face off coming up. At
one eleven left in the power playbase off coming casey O'Brien, Eden gets
it. Now, Harvey gets inon her stick. Harvey looking for a
(01:10:10):
pass. Bind's a nice little pass. This one goes to Wheeler. Now
back to O'Brian. Here's Harvey shotthat one, whiffed it, but luckily
the rebound by Wheeler. Here's O'Briena little tap and a shot and a
saved me by Ferris. And Ibelieve that was Leila Edwards who had a
chance at it and almost it couldhave been for nothing. But Wisconsin still
(01:10:32):
aggressive on this power play and lookingfor that first power play goal of the
season, and O'Brien to take thisface off. They win it. Here
goes Simms, now back out toO'Brien, now lost by Harvey. That's
(01:10:55):
taken back out in the zone.Harvey stumbling into the ice. That was
good pressure by Rachel, so golfand now Sims or excuse me, O'Brien
gets it back. O'Brien holds it. Not a Harvey Harvey firing on that
one's wide and Harvey can't get therebound or Curl can't get the rebound for
Wisconsin battling in the boards. Golftakes it, sends it back out,
try to make a move around.Harvey was was golf and couldn't do it,
(01:11:23):
or excuse me, Henderson can't doit. O'Brien gets it back,
O'Brien. Not a Harvey. Harveyholding firing on just a bit too high,
and goff sends it. Harvey luckilyto get it. And it looks
like Lyndenwood is gonna kill a powerplay here and a whistle and another stoppage
(01:11:45):
of play, and we'll have anotherface off coming up in just a sec.
Now everyone's able to get a linechange in that. That was a
long time on the ice for forboth those Both those squads are on that
power play, a lot of timefor Wisconsin and a lot of time for
Lynnwood. Wisconsin, though, reallydid a good job of maneuvering and passing
that puck around and very good successfrom the Badgers. Base off one,
(01:12:12):
Wisconsin gets it back. Badgers willcontrol it, holding it as Anna Wilgrin
now goes to Potter now stolen awayand another whistle and another stoppage of play,
and we'll have another face off comingup. About eleven thirty seven left
(01:12:33):
in this second period. At firstperiod flew by, but this second one
is kind of slowed down a littlebit more and we're starting to see a
lot more saved from both goaltenders. And it's a three goal lead here in
this one for Wisconsin. Face offone by the Badgers. They'll try and
get it. No, can't doit that time, as Jorgensen sends it
(01:12:55):
back out, wasn't Evis try torace to it. Couldn't do it that
on the board. Was Nevitch getsit on her stick. Now goes to
Britta Curl racing around looking for Oznevitchand that one was blocked yet again,
and it will go back to centerice. Here comes Murphy. Now goes
to Potter. Potter moving it aroundLyndwood playing pressure. Nothing there, Murphy
(01:13:16):
trying to dish it around and agood cross ized pass that was made from
Potter racing on in is Edwards.Edwards looking and Chant get a shot on
a pass that was to Pacard. She was open, she wanted it and
Wisconsin getting the rebound, luckily ableto keep it in the zone. Pacard
now going back up top now lookingfiring a shot from Wasnevitch. That's no
(01:13:38):
good, and the rebound picked upby Simms. And here's Sims and now
goes to Lacy Eden Eaten racing makinga little move and now here's Jungles fires
on that one is blocked. Junglesable to get the rebound. Now thumps
it in and here goes to knockup and for linden Wood. No good.
(01:14:02):
Here comes Jungles gets that back andHaul moves it, passes it around.
They'll move it again. That oneshot on by Hall, no good.
Rebound from Wisconsin. Jungles fires iton, blocked yet again. Block
party is happening down in the Lindenwoodzone. Here comes Hall gets the rebound.
Can't do it. Badger's still ableto keep it in the zone.
(01:14:24):
I se it'll move around from LacyEden fired it on that was just too
wide and the puck again for Wisconsincontrolled jungles holding it in looking for an
opening, can't find an opening. And now she does find something looking looking
for a pass, does find thatpass. That shot is on and saved
(01:14:45):
as that one was shot by AvaMurphy. And we will have a face
off coming up and Wisconsin and Lindenwood, both teams are gonna take a quick
break. We're gonna take a quickbreak here. This is Badger Women's key
presented by Goodman Jewelers, the DiamondStore of Madison, Wisconsin three, Lindenwood
(01:15:12):
zero. This is Badger Women's hockeypresented by Goodman Jewelers the Diamond Store of
Madison. Got a great one herein Wisconsin. The Badger's up three nothing
they get a goal to start inthe third or in the second period.
So far it has been a goodstart. We had a first period goal
from Layla Edwards and then Sarah wasnvitch and then Kristen Simms got one on
(01:15:36):
the top bar based off one byLindenwood. They race on into the zone,
Jack Cole getting it and we'll skatein. Lost it taken away by
Wisconsin. Here's Edwards two on onegoes to Dznevitch fires and that one is
no good. What a save madeby Ferris. Just an incredible shot right
(01:16:00):
there, and fair is just ableto hold that one in and just keep
it a three goal deficit for lyndonWood. Base off coming up. O'Brian
to take this face off with Hendersonand she'll lose that face off. Wisconsin
trying to regroup. Hickey will bebattled in the boards here by Edwards,
(01:16:25):
Wisconsin trying to clear it, orWisconsin trying to get the puck back.
Hickey hitting poked at by Leyla Edwards, Badgers trying to get it, stumbling
the stumbling down as Leila Edwards bodiesflying and what are they gonna call?
Officials are saying something, yet they'regonna give it to him. It's a
goal. Wiscotson got it. Therewas the officials adding to hold off for
(01:16:50):
a sec. But they finally cometogether and it is a Wisconsin goal and
it's for nothing. The relentless assaultcan tinues from this offense and just being
able to crash it down on Ferrison that linden Win defense and they just
keep putting it through. And itwas Casey O'Brien who got that goal,
(01:17:11):
and that is her first goal ofthe season. So good stuff here.
Face off one by Wisconsin and thenlinden Wood takes it away. Now going
back and pour up Pora gets it. That's stolen away again, stolen away
(01:17:34):
by Edwards, and we'll make anin and into the zone and a little
pass from Poor going to Netski andher night ski and it will be and
off sides and a face off.So we've got another face off coming up.
(01:17:54):
Casey O'Brian with her first goal ofthe season, Layla Edwards, Sarah
Waznevich and Kristen Simms all getting therefirst tonight, face off one by Lindenwood.
They'll dump it in and no icingOffish will say play on. Here's
a Pat Cannon pass. Edwards tumblingto the ice after taking a hit from
Henderson and in Wisconsin comes out witha puck, a little pass from Potter
(01:18:19):
that one stolen away and now racingback the other direction is jackal, Jackal,
try to do something with it,couldn't do it, stolen away,
wheeler back cannon pass, now racingin. Here comes Sarah Waznevitch, watch
Nevitch holding it, little pat cannonpass and a save made by Ferris.
(01:18:41):
So we'll have another faceoff coming up, and the face offs just continue to
go Wisconsin's way twenty five faceoffs oneto just thirteen for Lindenwood. One of
the better categories the Badgers have beenso dominant in is that faceoff category.
They're one of the better teams thatlast year they were one of the better
(01:19:01):
teams and winning face offs. Andhere's another one one but immediately stolen by
Lindenwood and sent back down and anicing is called and we'll have yet another
face off. It just continues topile up this entire period. It just
feels like he and another face off, another face off, and it's it's
changed from the first period here whereit just went on by face off one
(01:19:25):
by Wisconsin, and they will getit. Corbettenko try to look for a
pass up top no good and Lyndenwoodracing to it, Golf gets it,
makes a little move, then getsenough asked. Another Badger gets passed Edwards
taken away by Lacy Eden and nowsent back out to center Ice Lyndon.
We're gonna try and regroup. Puckwill be taken by Henderson. Henderson stops,
(01:19:48):
starts, tries to make a move, can't do much. Edge stolen
away by Jungles. Jungles takes it. Now goes to Edwards and now here
is Helgason fires an on and thatone saved by Ferris. She could have
played it, but it will bea faceoff coming up. The face officer
(01:20:09):
Wisconsin Casey O'Brien thirteen faceoffs one Picardwas seven, Hall with three and gorpe
Taka with two. I mean,it's just been it's just been piling up.
It's been insane to look at thenumbers. Here's a shot fired on
corner side from Will Grinn that isno good and Harvey gets it. Harvey
holding looking past no good on.It was a connection. I believe that
(01:20:31):
was to Mattie Wheeler, Katie Kotlowskiand no good and now and now taking
it back on the other side forLindenwood is mccash first minutes for her racing
down. Here's a slap shot onthat one is blocked and now Wisconsin coming
the other way, a three onone. Here comes Caroline Harvey holding it
in. Harvey looking for a passat a shot at a save Brett a
(01:20:55):
curl shut that on at a greatsave made by Ferris. Oh my goodness.
They had such a great opportunity. It was five on two that possession
there, Lyndon Wood just being caught. A couple of their players fell down
in the offensive zone and weren't ableto get back in time, and just
a huge opportunity for Wisconsin. Faceoff coming up. Simms gets that face
(01:21:23):
off, looks for Edwards, firesand that's blocked. Leila Edwards had a
chance at it. Now Potter sendingit back the other way. O'Brien going
now goes to Potter. Potter crossice pass or cross pass now going to
Murphy. Murphy trying to weave aroundin trouble, got tangled up there.
And now we'll take it back. And here's a little pass and a whistle,
and we have a penalty coming up, the first one tonight on Wisconsin,
(01:21:47):
so they will be on the penaltykill. And now Lindenwood has a
chance to try and get on theboard here as well. Yeah, this
may be their first real chance toget some extended time in the offensive zone
Lendonwood. Every time that they've takenit in, it hasn't lasted very long.
That Wisconsin defense has just been sostrong, as we talked about pregame,
(01:22:09):
as we've talked about throughout this entiregame. And now they have an
opportunity here with Wisconsin shorthanded base offcoming up. Pour up to take this
face off with O'Brien. She winsthat face off, sends it deeper into
the zone, and Edwards tries toget it and does clear it. Wisconsin,
good start for them. Now herecomes back the other way. Night
(01:22:32):
Ski racing, night Ski, alittle pass to Henderson, no good,
turned over, sent back around.Badgers looked like they had a chance for
a shorthanded play, couldn't get it. And now they'll take it back.
They'll make a line change. Daviesholds onto it. Babies. Now we'll
wait and she'll start her run.Golf gets it on that pass from Davies.
(01:22:56):
Now they'll move around. Davies racingin. That one's stolen away by
Edwards. Now taken back down ina foot race coming and Wisconsin gonna get
it. Edwards gets it on herstick, looks for a cross ice pass
to Jungles looking for the pass, couldn't find it. Now Edwards gets it
back. Now back up top theWilgrin and Wi Scotson now playing a little
keep away and that passes blocked. Now stolen away by Finnegan. Finnegan fired
(01:23:20):
on good block and the puck wasloose there for a rebounder stolen away by
by by Wilgrin. Ali goodness andnow again Wilgrin sends it back to center
ice. This has been good defensefrom Wisconsin and they're playing well. Jorgensen
tried to send it back in,Badgers take it away Wisnevitch sends it back
(01:23:42):
out, denied by golf and Golflooking for a pass. No good.
That one was to Henderson, couldn'tconnect and taken back out. Wisconsin down
the thirty seconds left on this powerplay. Badgers man, they are playing
very aggressively on this power play inLindenwood struggling. Now they'll take it back
(01:24:02):
into the zone looking for a passand a good poke by Gervais and now
wasn't much sends it back out againand a whistle and a stoppage of play,
and I don't know what we havehere, Dave. This is a
very interesting call. There's eleven secondsleft on this power play, and it
(01:24:25):
looks like Lindenwood is going to goback to the box yet again, and
Wisconsin will be on a power playhere. It will be a four on
four coming up. Yeah, fouron four for about another eleven seconds,
and then a power play the restof the way for about a minute forty
nine for Wisconsin. And just youcan't do that if you're Lindenwood when you're
on power play, you cannot commita penalty like that based off one.
(01:24:47):
Harvey stops, starts, races in, Harvey fires, good save by Ferrik,
and Wisconsin now on the power playthey're at full strength. Badgers get
it. Here's a little pass fromad Words to Harvey. Here is a
shot from eating that one's goes abit wide and Wisconsin racing to get the
rebound. They will try and getit. Murphy controls it, she'll hold
(01:25:09):
it, she'll fire it on anda save made by Ferris and another face
off coming up. You know,Wisconsin with an opportunity on the power play
minute thirty three left, and thatand just a huge opportunity for Wisconsin to
add on to their four nothing leadalready over Lindenwood here in the second period,
and now they get a line changein and it is gonna be another
(01:25:33):
It's gonna be a struggle for thenext minute thirty three for this Lindenwood defense.
This is Wisconsin's third power play ofthe night. They have been very
effective. Jungles gets in on thestick, little pass off that face off,
now cross ice, pass room watchingNevitch to Wheeler, Wheeler. It
wasn't Evitch holding waiting looking fire shotgood. No, it is a bit
(01:26:00):
loose and Ley Landwards trying to findit. She can't do it, and
finally a save made from Ferris. It was just sitting out there in the
crease and Ferris makes the save withher glove. Yeah, Ferris was sitting
down. She got knocked down, fell down, and it was just a
mess right there in front of thenets, and finally was able to cover
it up and get the whistle. You talk about a gift wrap chance for
(01:26:24):
Wisconsin. I mean that was asgift wrapped as it was with a little
bow on there. Face off.One haul gets it back up top here's
a slapshot from Jungles and a savemade by Ferris. Save that one that
time with the glove, and Wisconsinwill take it back with about a minute
left to go on this power play, they're winning the face off quickly and
(01:26:45):
getting to those quick shots and gettingthose passes connected, and it's showing really
good work so far. As offtone this time, Lyndone gets it,
Carol comes out of it, findsLacey Eden can't connect there. Oh,
there was a chance for a nicelittle backdoor pass. Harvey able to keep
it in the zone though. Harveylooking goes Toznevitch waiting, tries to find
(01:27:08):
an opening. Now looking down lowand that one was a chance for Lacey
eaton. That was no good.Harvey racing to the rebound, trying to
get it. Eden helps out.Harvey comes back out with it. Harvey
racing it fires. That one isoff the post, off the post and
no good and the rebound. O'Briennow back to wasnt Evitch. Now they'll
(01:27:29):
race around wasn't Evitch looking for apass, finds O'Brien. O'Brien back Nana
Waznevitch. Now they'll make the change. She makes a pass to Harvey.
Now Simms comes in. Now here'sO'Brien firing on on just a bit wide,
and now Simms gets the rebound. Now looks for O'Brien down at twelve
seconds, here's Lacey eat it,fires on and a shot in a safe
maid by ferris Man. That wasjust a bunch of stuff moving around so
(01:27:54):
quickly. And they better bring theoxygen bottle out for Lindenwood after that.
After that set, yeah, nowthey get a line change in at least
with the with the whistle, andthey're able to get some fresh legs out
there. But even even with freshlegs, it's been a long time on
defense for lindon Wood. Kotlowski comesout of it with the face off one
(01:28:14):
by Potter or by Gorbett and byGorbettenko who passed it. Puck finally taken
down and Lennonwood controls it and theyfinally, they finally are able to get
a penalty kill that works with themonce again. They control it now to
Naka moving around stolen away. Theytried to move it around a pass to
(01:28:39):
Golf that was lost Alisconsin controlling ityet again. Here comes Murphy stopping starting
now passing again. Now a shoton goal that's no good. Racing to
it was Potter Potter can't win thatrace. Now going back, she gets
the rebound off a pass from Kotlowski. That one's taken out by Helgason.
Mark Johnson going deeper into this groupwith a little bit of the fourth line.
(01:29:02):
Here a minute twenty five left togo in this second period. The
Badgers have already netted two goals. Here, here's a shot fired on that
one was deflected, good shot fromEva. Murphy travels back out to center
ice, racing to it as PotterPotter can she win that chase with Rourick
she can, and battling for itand taking it away is Gorbetenko. Gorbetenko
(01:29:28):
on a little back pass to Helgason, now goes to Potter. Potter racing
in, doesn't have help Wisconsin makinga line change, stumbling on the ice.
Ice is slip. Report takes itaway and now we'll stumble as well
on the ice and it will bestill in their zone. Badger's trying to
keep it in there. Down toforty seconds left in this period and L's
(01:29:49):
just trying to control it. IsLennonwood Davies trying to move it. Good
pressure. This one will be backto center ice now stolen away. Officials
wave off the off sides, Bucksin the zone, Potter trying to chase
it. Can't get that chase. Now Davies gets it on her stick.
She starts weaving for Lindenwood, racingon in nice little move around and trying
(01:30:12):
to get it. There was Jungles. She does get that puck, Jungles
battling, fighting, and now we'llbe sent back out. Jungles two sims,
not a wheeler. Wheeler dumps itdown, icing waved off. Here's
Jungles with a chats on Ferris andshe saves it and a whistle at a
stoppage of play with five seconds leftto go in this second period, and
(01:30:34):
an opportunity for Vivian Jungles to gether first goal on the season, and
almost a easy opportunity right there, based Off coming up with five seconds left
and Wisconsin trying to control it,Dan trying to get one more shot.
(01:30:55):
Nothing there, And that is howperiod number two is going end. So
the Badger's getting two more goals, one from Casey O'Brien and one from Christian
Simms and they extend their lead fornothing here against Lindenwood. When we come
back, we'll have the second intermissionhere Wisconsin for Lindenwood zero. This is
(01:31:18):
Badger Women's Hotekeep presented by Goodman Jewelers, the Diamond Store of Madison. This
is Badger Women's Hotekeep presented by GoodmanJewelers, the Diamond Store of Madison.
And this is the Badger Women's intermissionreport. Here we come back, Wisconsin
(01:31:40):
up for nothing, Christian Simms inCasey O'Brien getting there too, first goal
of getting their first two goals ofthe season, and Wisconsin pouring it on.
And it was a fast paced periodNoah Clark along with Dave Gasper.
First period was very quick, Dave. But then that second period, uh,
it kind of slowed down a littlebit, but still Wisconsin has really
(01:32:05):
owned Lindenwood, uh from start tofinish in this uh first and now in
this second period. Yeah, it'scontinued. Really, it's been completely one
sided in in this game. Thegood news for Lindenwood, I guess is
that they finally got their first shoton goal. It was saved by by
(01:32:25):
Jane Jervey. But they're up toeleven shots now lynden Wood. Lindenwood is
in total, Wisconsin is at ninetyone ninety one shots for Wisconsin. Leading
the way is uh Is Eden LaceyEden with eleven, Kirsten Sims has ten
shots, Jungles with nine, andthose are the top three shot takers for
(01:32:48):
Wisconsin, and Sims leading the waywith shots on goal with seven seven ever
ten shots being being on goal.So a great start to the season for
her through these first two periods. And it's it's just been a relentless assault.
We We've been talking about this,it's relentless. Linden Wood's defense does
not really get a chance for abreak and it's just been pouring it on,
(01:33:12):
getting a couple of goals through forfor Wisconsin, a couple of power
plays. I will say this forfor lindon Wood, and I will give
them credit for this. The powerplays that Wisconsin has gotten, they have
locked it down. They have notallowed a goal on a power play in
this game. So I will givethat credit to Lindenwood's defense. And with
all the shots that that Wisconsin's takingninety one shots, that is a lot.
(01:33:36):
That that is a lot, andand forty nine shots on goal.
Of all those shots, of onlyfour goals getting through. I mean,
that's not bad for for Lindenwood.Forty five saves for for Lindenwood, for
for their goaltender. I mean, that's it's just so tough with with Wisconsin
(01:33:59):
and how to just keep on comingat you. They don't get a break.
Yeah, and they've been relentless. But that is the bright spot for
Lindenwood. The powerplays of really hirtheir penalty kill has been really impressive.
Wisconsin's penalty kill, They've been supersuper close to getting a powerplay goal to
start uh the season. But man, give it up to Janserva. She's
(01:34:23):
got one safe here tonight. Theirdefense has been outstanding h tonight against Lindenwood,
and you look at it, itcould carry over into this third period.
But now I gotta say, here, you know, what are we
expecting in this third period? BecauseWisconsin, you know, in the first
really you know, put their footon the gas. The second period more
(01:34:43):
of a defensive slug fest. Ittook a little bit before they got those
two goals. Now we're looking intothe third period. What can we expect
going into this third against the Lionshere based on this pace, probably about
two more goals and a whole bunchof shots. Oh, absolutely, because
that's just what it's been. It'sjust been one after another, putting up,
you know, forty plus shots perperiod, getting a couple of more
(01:35:05):
goals, and just I think forMark Johnson, just kind of getting everyone
involved in the game and just lookingat the stat sheet here, almost everybody
on this team that that that's beenout there has gotten either a shot or
shot and goal. Pretty much everyonehas gotten a shot except for the backup
(01:35:27):
goaltenders. They're the only ones whohaven't taken a shot so far in this
game. And there's only been acouple that have been out there that haven't
gotten a shot on goal. Clowski, Potter and Ava Murphy. They're the
only ones who haven't gotten a shoton goal. But everyone else they've been
they've been out there, they've beentaking their shots. I've been getting them
on goal and just making life miserablefor that Lindenwood defense. And it's not
(01:35:50):
been easy. Lindenwood has only hadthen in that second period, Lindenwood had
eight shots on Lynnwood at eight shotsin that second period to Wisconsin's thirty seven.
Lyndenwood had had one shot so inthat one shot on goal excuse me
(01:36:12):
in that second period. So,you know, great job of the Badger's
here, twenty one shots on goalon for Wisconsin. They can keep the
pressure up here and hopefully we'll seesome more scoring uh coming up here.
So uh, we're gonna take aquick break when we come back. I
got a chance to interview Kristin Simmsthis week, and I got to talk
to her about what it felt like, you know, to win the national
(01:36:34):
championship and b uh the only playeron the Badger's team in that National Championship
game to score a goal. Souh, don't go anywhere, we will
be right back. This is BadgerWomen's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers, the
Diamonds Store of Madison. Noah Clarkcovering today for the pregame show, and
(01:36:59):
I'm interviewed Kristen Simms, one ofthe skaters from the Wisconsin women's hockey team.
It's great to have you here,Kristen. Great to be part of
such a great and long history history. So I gotta start, you know,
because the National Championship game happened backin March. That must have been
a big moment for you, scoringthe only goal for Wisconsin against Ohio State.
(01:37:24):
How are you feeling? You know, how are you How are the
emotions after that? Incredible? Afterthat incredible moment that you had there back
in March. Yeah, obviously itwas a crazy moment and kind of like
surprising that it was the only goal, especially against such a good team like
Ohio State, and that was inthe first period as well. But kind
of from that moment on me likegot our excitement up from it and just
(01:37:45):
kind of trying to stay level headedthroughout the rest of the game. But
obviously after knowing that that was likethe only one put in, it was
obviously huge and was super like goodfeeling overall. That's awesome and hopefully you
hopefully you can keep sing more goalsin those clutch moments. I mean,
that was a very very big timeclutch moment. You had a lot of
accomplishments last year, a lot ofaccomplishments made made the All Tournament team,
(01:38:12):
was a non was a finalist forthe WCCHA Rookie of the Year from Win's
Hockey. Very impressive stuff. Whatkind of personal goals do you have going
into the season. I mean alot of all, A lot of the
accolades that we saw last year werereally impressive, and then even two scoring
the game winning goal in the NationalChampionship. But take me through what you
have, what you're going to gothrough this season, or what you have
(01:38:34):
set for yourself for this season.I mean, honestly, for me,
it's kind of just sticking with havinga lot of confidence this year for myself
and kind of sticking to my gameand playing with it throughout the year and
whatever that hands me, it handsme, but the end of the day,
just doing what I can do bestfor the team overall and continuing to
be that offensive threat overall. Sokind of nothing like award wise or anything
(01:38:57):
like that personally, but more justlike keeping confidence up and going throughout the
year, playing my style and juststicking to my game. Okay, awesome,
thank Kristen. Thank you back herefor the start of the third and
final period. If you're just joiningus Wisconsin for Lyndenwood zero. Kristen Simms
(01:39:20):
and Casey O'Brien with the two goalsand the Badgers begin the third period play
Wisconsin winning the face off they'll takeit back out. Edwards moves on a
pass to O'Brien and now they'll starttheir run. Badgers in the zone.
A little shot on that shot wasdeflected. Simms gets it. Sim's holding
on to the park now racing. Now we're moving a pass down now up
(01:39:42):
top, goes to Caroline Harvey, now goes to Will Grin. Now looking
can't get it. That one wasblocked and Wisconsin gets the rebound. Then
again with that block and it willgo back to center ice. Body's tumbling
on the ice. No whistle fora penalty as there was a trip from
j backle On Picard, and itwill play andsome puck taken down to the
(01:40:08):
zone wiscons or into the Lindenwood zone. Lindenwood has struggled here. Here's a
slapshot on and a save, avery rare save made by Jane Gervais.
So if you're just joining us,Wisconsin with a bit of a barrage here
of scoring. First period goals camefrom Leyla Edwards as well as Sarah Waznevitch,
(01:40:31):
and then in the second period KristenSimms and Casey O'Brien as well got
those two goals and Wisconsin trying tokeep on the attack. Two on one,
a nice little pass, a slapshotand a save made by Ferris.
Wisconsin on the attack, continuing therelentless assault from the first period and the
(01:40:58):
second period, and it has gonewell so far. Eighteen forty left in
the third based off coming up haulto take this one with goff and she
wins that one and then loses itstolen away. Hayine dumps it out,
(01:41:20):
now stolen, Edwards gets it,now dumps it to Eaten, Eaten racing
on in and she can't get itback. But here's a pass up top
the jungles who controls it, andthat one is blocked and deflected wide Edwards
back the other way and a hugeat ooh, a little bit of a
hit there at the end. Edwardstook a bit of a shot, and
(01:41:43):
here's a chance for a Wilgren anda shot and a save Maid and a
face off coming up. So Wisconsinon the defensive side they have only allowed
two goals so far, and itis a foreign or not. On the
offensive tide, they have allowed twogoals, but on the defensive side they've
allowed only two shots so far throughthis entire game. Wisconsin defensively has been
(01:42:09):
really aggressive and it is really playedout. Well, here's a chance a
shot. That one was blocked.Wisconsin getting it back. Battle on the
boards, Mattie Wheeler tries to controlit. Now goes back to Potter,
now goes back to Wheeler. Wheelertrying to get it. Weaves around and
Wheeler not a Murphy Murphy little pass, cross ice pass to kott Lowski.
(01:42:38):
Now Wheeler goes the card, fireson no good. Rebound picked up.
That is was Nevitch and we'll bestolen away. Henderson try to dump it,
can't do it. And here's across ice pass, no good.
The cross ice pass that was connectedwasn't Evitch was down low favor Murphy couldn't
(01:43:01):
connect there. Wisconsin for Lindenwood zeroLions have struggled to get that elusive goal.
Picard dumping it in the zone, cut Lowski racing to it. Can't
win that race, stolen away byCorbyn. Corbyn lost it oh almost out
in front. Wilgren had a chanceon it. She does get it back,
though, bounced off a lucky deflection. Battling the boards, Eric Lowski
(01:43:25):
trying to control it, and lostit and Wilgren can't get it. Now
back out, here's Harvey one time, shot blocked, no good, and
the Lions will dump it back.Linden Wood trying to find some footing.
(01:43:45):
Here's Harvey, weaves in, Harveygetting around shot no good, and now
they'll take it back. Here isJorgensen back up top, took off,
stolen away, Edwards gets it,stops, makes a little move, now
weaves into the zone wanting Simms.Edwards fires on a shot and a save
made by Ferricks. Wisconsin just continuingthe offensive assault here and it's only gonna
(01:44:15):
be a matter of time until theyfind the net once again. But just
just staying on so much time ondefense for Lindenwood. They haven't gotten a
chance to get any sort of offensegoing at all, and it hasn't really
been It's been a tough story forWisconsin and or for excuse me, for
Lindenwood. They have really offensively notbeen good tonight Wisconsin and going into that
(01:44:40):
second, going into this third period, they had ninety one shots against Lindenwood.
Racing in is Simms dishes it towash Nvitch can't do it. Edwards
can't find it on that pass, but luckily they'll control it again. And
here's O'Brien. Good pass from Simms. Now she it's it back from O'Brien,
(01:45:00):
dumped it back around now Hayne triedto send it around back out of
the zone from Lennon Wood and thenit will stole by Jungles. Jungles now
to Simms, Sims stopping holding it, Sim's looking for a weaving spot,
Sims weaving around, Sim's finding alittle move now shut from O'Brien. That
(01:45:23):
is saved by Ferris and Farren's withalmost another goal. But she has stood
on her head tonight, even thoughit's for nothing from Wisconsin, man,
this has been a very very goodperformance from her. She has wracked up
fifty saves now in this game. This is probably gonna be a career high
(01:45:45):
for her and saved indeed, andshe is earning every bit of absolutely and
it's been phenomenal the way that bothof these goalies have played tonight. For
nothing. Wisconsin face off one bythe Badgers back up top to Eden Wasnevitch
tries to battle there. Wisconsin tryto control it now, Eating gets it,
(01:46:13):
sends it into the zone. Curltries to get it, can't do
it. Body's tumbling at the floor. Helguson gets it back. Now going
to Wilgren, Wilgren weaving, Wilgrenfiring that shots block, gets a rebound,
can't do it, and now halcontrols it. Haul looking got a
couple of bodies there, Haul Weavingstill stopping starting now passes it off to
Eat and Eating dishes it back aroundthe Brutta curl, I'm curl now to
(01:46:40):
Eva Murphy, Murphy weaving around,Murphy taking her time. Now a pass
to Potter. Potter trying to keepit in the zone almost and off sides,
and we'll dump it back and Wisconsinmakes a line change, so does
linden Wood off on a pass toHenderson. Poked that and stolen way by
Waznevitch. Here's Harvey taking it offthe poke pass. Harvey fired and on
(01:47:04):
that one was blocked, stolen away, and now Golf trying to clear it
out. Good defensive play by Wisconsin. Matty Wheeler being aggressive, pokes it
away. Picard waiting for it andcan't can't get it, and it will
be Lindenwood's pass. And this one'ssent from jacko All the way down and
it will be an icing and mygoodness, back and forth so far thirteen
(01:47:30):
thirty nine in the third period.Four nothing Wisconsin. Kristen Simms and Casey
O'Brien with two goals in the secondperiod, and Sarah Waznevitch and Layla Edwards
with two goals in the first periodto make this a four nothing game.
And maybe we'll see some more scoringhere. Face off one by Lindenwood and
(01:47:51):
they'll move it down. Jorgensen controlsit, then sends it deep looking for
Jackal. No good there, andit will be taken away. Now here
comes Eating racing up the other end. Now a pass to Wassnevitch now goes
back eating fires that one's no goodaround Wasnevitch does get the rebound and it
(01:48:14):
will be luckily poked at and stolenaway and set back down by Henderson,
and we will have yet another icingcall and another face off Wisconsin on the
offensive end. Then very good tostart. They've had a couple of chances
in this game. Wisconsin is nowup over one hundred shots fifty four on
(01:48:42):
goal. The Badgers also too,and next stop it here we'll talk a
little bit more about their young play. Here's a chance, Oh, try
to go for a backdoor pass,no good from Murphy and Murphy does get
the rebounds, she gets it backto Edwards. Edwards can't get it.
That one's stolen away by jack OldJackal tumbling to the boards. Now taken
away by Grobowski or Grabbingowski, andit will be stolen back to Kotlowski from
(01:49:08):
Wisconsin. Elgason controls it after thatpass from Kotlowski stolen away from Grabotenko.
Here's a shot from Kotlowski that's nogood and Kolowski couldn't get the rebound.
Luckily it goes Pack trickled around toHelgason and now helgas into Edwards off of
a tip Garbatenko. Gorbe Tenko triedto get it, no good, puck
(01:49:33):
trip caled out Pack and it willbe a hand pass it. It will
be a face offf coming up.So looking at Wisconsin. The change from
this is something we have we talkedabout early on in the pregame show.
But this team a lot different thanwhat they were last year. A lot
of experience on this group. Youhad Sophie Shirley, you had Natalie book
(01:49:55):
Bonder, you had, Cammi Cronis, you had a lot of experience on
that team. And here's Wisconsin ona two on one, takes the face
off and oh, Brian races righton in fires that save is blocked right
off the play from Ferris. Edwardstry to get it poked at, stolen
away and now Potter will control it, sending it to Murphy. Murphy stopping,
(01:50:20):
holds it up. Now goes toPotter, and now Potter to Sims.
Simms holds up Sims looking for apass, finding a pass and a
great save that was made by Ferris. I believe that was pretty Carl down
low, almost another opportunity, andhere's a pass from Carl and this time
(01:50:41):
another shot from Layla Edwards that goeswide. My goodness, of a rage.
Here's Edwards just dumping it down inthe crease. Nothing there, and
Murphy will control it and we'll sendit back to their zone and they will
control it and it'll be a linechange coming up. Wisconsin weaving in,
(01:51:03):
Curls stumbling to the ice, triedto get it in for Wisconsin, no
good and the Badgers trying to holdon to a four nothing lead. There's
about under eleven minutes left ear inthis third and final period and Wisconsin looking
for win number one on the season. Britta Curl tried to weave around officials,
(01:51:27):
don't call for the off side,so play resumes and look for a
long past that has taken away wasAva Murphy and here's a shot that's fired
on on Gervais. Good play.McLaren looked for an opening, no good
and Wisconsin on the offensive attack.Lacy Eden races in, can't get it
and it will be an icing. She just had a tad step a bit
(01:51:48):
too early and it almost was anopportunity for the Badgers. And now a
whistle and we also have a penaltycoming up on Caroline Harvey as she goes
into a box, and so Lindonwould now on the power play here,
yeah, they get their second opportunityon a power play and maybe a chance
for them to hold it in theoffensive zone. But last time Wisconsin's defense
(01:52:11):
was so aggressive on the power playthey're able to hold the puck and even
get it under the offensive zone themselvesfor a little bit. Face off one
and Wisconsin takes the face off, goes to Edwards, she sends it back
down into the Lindenwood zone. Washnevitchtrying to play pressure. Here goes Jorgensen,
(01:52:33):
not a golf now stolen away, hold up by Maddie Wheeler, no
help down there, low but shefinds a wide up and Washnevitch, who
also has no help. Was Nevitchwaiting for it back up top though,
is Jayla Edwards calling for it.No good that one's taken away and racing
out too it is golf. Golftakes it, golf stopping now Weaving passes
(01:52:55):
it back now to McLaren. McLarengoing and I little past night Ski,
Night Ski try to get it stolenaway by Lacey Eden, Eden battling Eden
able to control it and able tokeep it away from Lynden wind offenders now
lost it there for a sect.Night Ski fires it and that one goes
I and out of play and aface off coming up, and my goodness,
(01:53:21):
both of these teams starting to bothof these teams playing very aggressive.
Wisconsin almost gave up their first goaland almost an opportunity. Night Ski was
out there. If she didn't stumbleon the ice, it would have been
a potential goal on this power playface off. One Night Ski blocked,
(01:53:44):
Wisconsin takes it away. Now goingthe other way, here's Eden. Eden
has a Brian can't get it,good block, good defensive play by Molly
Anderson, and now Lyndon win wouldregroup. Fifty seconds on the power play,
nine almost nine minutes left to goin this third period, Wisconsin up
for nothing and the Badgers playing reallywell here and looking to close it out
(01:54:06):
tonight to get their first win ofthe season. Here's O'Brien, little pass,
now little mismatch. Hascott Lasky fireson and that one is no good.
Just a bit high, was Wasnevitchand it will be a faceoff with
thirty seconds left on the power playfor Lindenwood, and it feels like it's
(01:54:29):
more of a Wiscotsin power play thana Lindenwood power play, and that's what
Badger fans love to see. Herein Saint Louis, they had two shots
on goals shorthanded for Wisconsin during thisDuring this power play, here's simms off
the win of the face off fromO'Brien, and it will be taken back
(01:54:49):
out Lindenwood controls it. Twenty secondsleft on this power play, Carl getting
get back on her stick out apotter. Potter tried to get it to
Edwards and clear it. Now sentback the other way waiting for it is
Murphy. Murphy battling in the boardshere, has two linenwood defenders on her
Corbin and Goff, and Corbin can'tget it away from there, and it
(01:55:12):
will be sent by Murphy. Nowgoing back up top to Jorgenson. Murphy
gets it back around, now goesto off of raw ricks stick a lucky
bounce and Wisconsin is able to controlit here and they will be able to
kill that power play. So thebadger is doing a very good job of
penalty kills as well. And nowracing to it is Cassie Hall, and
(01:55:39):
Hall looking for some help, can'tfind much help, dumps it down and
Jorgenson sends it back out Golf waitingfor it, Golf stopping looking for an
ice. Little pass finds an icelittle pass can't get by Shale Edwards though,
and Edward just sends it back tocenter ice and it will trickle down.
(01:56:00):
And was Navits trying to keep itfrom being an icing and she is
able to do that. Sarah Iwatched Nevitch with great pressure defense and Lindenwood's
struggling to control the puck here. And it's been very good so far from
what we've seen. Puck zipping around. Now going to Wheeler, now going
to Edwards. Fired on that one'sblocked up high into the high net and
(01:56:24):
it will be a face off comingup. So Wisconsin and Lindenwood both teams
playing really aggressive here. We're gonnatake a quick break. Wisconsin for Lindenwood
zero. This is Badger Women's Hockeypresented by Goodman Jewelers, the Diamond Store
of Madison, Wisconsin. Four Lindenwoodzero, seven twelve left to go in
(01:56:54):
this third period. This is BadgerWomen's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers. Wisconsin
in this third period been very aggressive, looking for an elusive goal. They
just killed off a power play fromLindenwood. Face off one. Edwards gets
it back up top. Here's achance and a past to Potter. That
one was deflected and Wisconsin controls it. O'Brien, little move O'Brien with a
(01:57:16):
nice little spin. Now pass toEdwards. Edwards dumps it down, now
goes to Potter, Potter holds it. Potter looking finds Leyla Edwards. Edwards
looking for a past to O'Brien andshe can't connect. There's tried to cross
size past it couldn't do it nowO'Brien. O'Brien holds it not to Edwards,
Edwards taking her time. Edwards lookingfinds Layla. Edwards finds O'Brien fired
(01:57:41):
as slapshot on that one was justa bit wide. And how Potter gets
the rebound, Potter holding it up, has Edwards down low looking for a
past to Leyla. Edwards can't connect, and how linden Wood's staying the other
way and a little bit of abreakaway here coming down the other and his
coff a shot and a save madeby your vail. Oh my goodness,
(01:58:02):
Rachel Golf was left there all aloneand Gervais makes an incredible save in one
of the very rare times we've seenher tonight. Really have to come out
of recrease. Yeah, that wasthe first real opportunity we've seen for Lindenwood.
They had there was no one inbetween Gervais and Lindenwood and they were
able to get a shot on butGervais able to get the save based off
(01:58:26):
one by Wisconsin Harvey sends it backaround. Now going to Eden now almost
Ane their chance, oh, stolenaway by Jorgenson. Here's a firing shot
from her. That one was sentup. I Katlowski gets it back and
now racing with it is Caroline Harvey. Harvey has Helgason, Helgason almost a
(01:58:46):
chance that one was blocked setback awayby ference five forty five counting in this
third and final period, Wisconsin four, Lindenwood zero, and the Lions are
looking to hopefully not go for theirfirst loss. Wisconsin looking for their first
loss or first win of the season. Here against the Lion's bodies tumbling on
(01:59:11):
the ice, Elgason just trying toclear it and she does. Waiting for
it. Is Murphy down the Lindenwoodzone Anderson for Lindenwood. Now we'll send
it, moves it around. Herecomes Golf now going This is Dravis and
Gervais. A little stroll of apass, no good and Lacy Eden gets
(01:59:36):
it back. Eden sends it Helgasontry to dump it away, no good,
and the puck taken back by Haine, and that one trickles up and
Hayne fired it on out of playand it will be a face off coming
up. So Wisconsin coming into thisgame playing really well to start, number
(01:59:58):
one team of the country, andthey are looking like it every little bit
of it so far. And MarkJohnson's got this team ready to play,
especially on the defensive side. Theyhave been just an outright brick wall in
this game. Based off one, here's a chance and a shot at a
score from Lacy Oh. It wasa two on one and she was left
(02:00:23):
all alone and Wisconsin makes it fivenothing on Lynden one. Just a great
shot by Eden. Able to getthe puck and just shoot it up right
over on top of the glove sideshoulder of Farrens and put Wisconsin up five
Nothing. Sees the opportunity, noone in between her and Farrens and just
puts it up and gets fifth goalof the game. Lacy Eden with her
(02:00:46):
first goal this season. And Wisconsinhas ad five different goal has had five
goals from five different players tonight, talk about teamwork. Incredible stuff. Based
off one. Jorgenson sends it stolenaway. Here's a chance for Wisconsin.
O'Brien races in no good the rebound. They'll picked up. Hall sends it
(02:01:11):
back to Britta Curl she fires nogood and taken away by Hickey. Hicky
sends it looking for golf Punk tricklesdown and no icing is called. Wisconsin
will play on little cross ice passfrom Gorbattenko, try to get it to
Lacey Eden, couldn't connect and eatonholding it up moving around. Is Lindenwood
(02:01:38):
jackal now lost it, stolen awayMaddie Wheeler good defense, Wheeler needing some
help, does get help from Wassnevitchand Wasnevitch battling hard in there and is
able to win that puck boy.Very fierce play by Sarah Waznevitch and she'll
send it back down into the Lindenwoodzone. Badger's just really trying to clear
(02:01:59):
it out and they've done a goodjob. Three twenty five left to go
in this third period. Wisconsin upfive nothing, Lacey Eden with the first
goal of this third period and theBadgers looking to go for their first win
of the season. Puck behind thenet, Badger's trying to move it.
Lions trying to move it and they'lltry and dump it. They do,
(02:02:23):
but stolen away by Caroline Harvey andnow taken away by Pora. We'll be
sent down or sends it. Harveywaits for it and Caroline Harvey does get
it. Harvey starts her run,but Card try to get that chase,
can't get that chase and Jacka willsend it back the other way. Now
(02:02:43):
looking for a crossized pass. Here'sFinnegan looking down low. Here's a chance
for Corbyn. Corbyn gets hit hardinto the boards by Lacy Eden and now
coming the other way is Wisconsin.O'Brien looking racing, fire shot no good
and Simms getting the rebound. Wisconsinmaking a bunch of line changes, Sims
(02:03:05):
bound low. O'Brien can't get itand back up top. Here's a chance,
little move from Edwards, a firingshot from Simms. That's no good.
Rebound taken back out. Now here'sWilgrin making the change. Wilgrin to
(02:03:25):
Murphy, not a Sims. Nowback to O'Brien, not a add words,
now goes to Sims. Sims lookingno good, good block. A
minute fifty left to go in thisthird and final period in Wisconsin, up
by five against the Lions. Bodiestumbling and now a whistle in a stoppage
(02:03:49):
of plane. We're gonna have apenalty with one footy left and it will
be on Wisconsin, so the Badgerswill be on the penalty kill for the
rest this game. As it lookslike Kristen Simms is going to go to
the box. Yeah, Kristen Simmsgetting called for interference on that last play,
(02:04:12):
and you know for Lacy Eaton,Lacey Eaton getting that goal there gold
number five of the day. Shehad seventeen goals last year and she had
a four point game against Lindenwood justlast season during this series face off coming
won by Lindenwood. Badger's on thepower play to finish this game out.
(02:04:33):
And it's been a good one forWisconsin. They have scored five goals tonight
and this is the first of atwo game series they play tomorrow in Lindenwood,
and we'll have that coverage for youhere on Badger Women's Hockey here on
ten seventy Madison on Fox Sports. And here's a face and here we go
down to the zone and Lindenwood getsit poora weaving around, calling for its
(02:04:59):
golf sheet on it it that puckis blocked in. Nowt here we go
on a breakaway, racing down onthe other end and going in for Britta
curl and she couldn't finish that onerebound and they score and it's Lacy she
makes up for Britta Curls breakaway andit is six nothing and it's a shorthanded
(02:05:20):
goal. Wow, insane. LaceyEden comes at it again. Look like
I was saying last last year,a four point game against lindon Wood and
now a two goal game here today. Just just incredible finish. And like
I said during in the mission,I expect two goals and they did it.
(02:05:40):
And we got two goals in thisperiod and Lacy Eden getting her second
and it's a shorthanded goal and it'ssix nothing. Badgers. Man. How
about Wisconsin coming out in their firstgame. They're looking like the number one
team in the country based off one. Lindenwood takes it back, Rawick sends
it down out going and it goesto night Ski can't get it controlled and
(02:06:03):
Wisconsin takes it away. Here'snevitchnevitch racingin, trying to get around the defender,
trying to get around McLaren. Can'tdo it. Good pope by McLaren.
That one's taking back out down afifteen seconds. Wisconsin trying to clear
it now, here's a pass,Matty Wheeler firing on, no good.
That one was blocked, and I'lltaken back the other way to Davis.
(02:06:27):
Davy's going now one more chance fora night ski. She fires on and
that is no good and the Badgersget their first win of the season here
in Lindenwood six nothing in one aperformance Lacy Eden with two goals here tonight
and that one very at the end, and then they did it all on
a penalty kill here. Yeah, the shorthanded goal to finish it off.
(02:06:50):
Just a great sign. Wisconsin justdoing it all here against linden Wood with
the blowout victory. And this wasdomination from start to finish. As soon
as that first puck dropped. It'sbeen all Wisconsin this entire game. And
now with the handshake line is itis all Wisconsin here in the box score
six nothing to start off the season. Wisconsin six, Lindenwood zero. Badgers
(02:07:15):
will play here once again tomorrow nightin a two game series. When we
come back, We're gonna have thefinal intermission for you. Wisconsin six,
Lindenwood zero. You're listening to BadgerWomen's Hockey presented by Goodman Jewelers the Diamond
Store of Madison. This is theBadger Women's postgame presented by Goodman Jewelers,
(02:07:43):
the Diamond Store of Madison. NoahClark gave gasper Wisconsin women's hockey getting their
first win of the season and theylook like the number one ranked team in
the country. Six to zero.Badgers get the shutout, Changer Vague gets
the shout out, and this waskind of a This was just all Wisconsin
(02:08:03):
from start to finish. Badgers aggressivelyfrom the start, played really well,
and then from the end to thatthird period they played aggressively really well.
And you look at the stat sheethere, David, this is incredible numbers
that we're looking at here. Imean, one hundred and eighteen shots for
(02:08:24):
Wisconsin and linden Win's eighteen. Imean, they were just relentless from start
to finish here. Yeah, buta hundred elite of one hundred shots on
the game and then shots on goal, sixty five shots on goal to just
five shots on goal for linden Wood. It was just a NonStop assault offensively
(02:08:45):
Wisconsin and it really helped with Wisconsinwinning forty six faceoffs to just nineteen faceoffs
one for linden Wood. So itwas just a NonStop assault. The defense
linden Wood was on their heels prettymuch all night long. They could not
get anything going in rhythm offensively thatthey had a few shots, one with
(02:09:07):
a breakaway there in the third quarterwhere there was no one between Jane Jerve
and the linden Wood and and JaneJerve gets the save, and it's just
like they had like very few opportunitiesthe Lions did, and whatever opportunities they
get, they weren't able to takeadvantage of. And Wisconsin had numerous opportunities,
(02:09:30):
numerous numerous chances, and eventually theywere able to get some through.
But uh, you know, reallythe defense for for linden Wood, I
mean it almost feels like holding Wisconsinto six goals should actually be seen as
an accomplishment for the Lions, becauseI mean, with with how much they
were facing only six, I mean, fifty nine saves for Ferns, fifty
(02:09:54):
nine saves that that's practically unheard ofin in a regulation game. It's unreal,
unreal, and she stood her shestood her own out there. I
definitely think you're right, like thiswould be considered a win for Lynnwood.
But obviously Wisconsin got the win herein this one. Defensively on the other
(02:10:15):
side for the Badgers, I mean, they were phenomenal on the defensive side.
I believe if anybody would even think, you know, man, Wisconsin's
defense might struggle and escape everybody. No, not even close. Wisconsin only
had four saves in that fourth orin that third period, and it was
(02:10:35):
incredible. Linnenwood had fourteen. Wisconsinonly saw seven shots. Four those shots
run goal in the third. Overallin this game, though, I mean
eighteen shots on goal or five shotson goal to eighteen shots total. Very
impressive stuff by this Badger defense. They came out right out of the gate
(02:10:58):
and they looked like still one ofthe top defenses in the country. Yeah.
Absolutely, And that's why Lennon Wood'soffense couldn't get going, and they
couldn't get the puck in the offensivezone for more than fifteen seconds at a
time. Every time they got itin there, whenever they finally did clear
it out of being on defense,Wisconsin's able to get it right back.
They didn't get a chance to passit around and get in any sort of
(02:11:22):
any sort of groove or rhythm andyou got to credit the defense to just
always just stick the puck out andget it, clear it out of the
zone, get back control of itand and go back on offense. And
it was impressive work. I mean, Wisconsin, they went full throttle.
You know, I feel like thatthis term has used a lot all gas
(02:11:43):
note break Wisconsin. Literally it wason the gas from start to finish,
that one hundred months per hour fromfrom start to finish and the and they
played really well. And then what'salso crazy about that is too is uh
the penalties the power play in thisgame. You know, it wasn't spectacular
for Wisconsin, but they got ashorthanded goal out of this towards the end
(02:12:05):
of the of the of that game, I mean, Lacey Eden the only
player in the night to get twogoals for Wisconsin. It was a team
effort, but uh, Lacey Edenscored a shorthanded goal off of a Britta
Curl breakaway. And uh that Igotta that's pretty impressive in my part for
the Badgers here tonight. It is, and it Lacey Eden just tends to
(02:12:26):
have success against Linden Woods four pointsagainst him last year. And and really
I think for Wisconsin too. Imean this was spreading the wealth. It
wasn't just one or two players dominating. I mean it it was everyone getting
in there. No one had morethan than two points in this game.
Eden had two Edwards head two,O'Brien and Simms head two. So the
(02:12:50):
Brittick curl. But then you know, one point for Edwards, one point
Picard, Jungles Potter. Uh wasnevitch like it's all all spread around.
It wasn't. It wasn't one playerdominating or two players dominating. It was
it was every line. It wasit was every group and just everyone getting
a piece of the action. Uh. In the scoring here in this game.
(02:13:13):
And and and that's what it's allabout really for Wisconsin bathm's hockey,
I mean for Wisconsin Badge women's hockey, that's what it's all about. You
want to move the puck around inthis offense. They're so used to being
a team that you know, lovesto move that puck around. Share the
wealth, as you said, youknow, and they did that tonight.
Uh. Almost every goal except theLacey eating goal at the end. It
(02:13:35):
was every goal scored by a differentBadger player, Uh, in this game.
So Wisconsin gets the win Wisconsin's sixLindenwood zero. They played tomorrow night
against Lindenwood. Uh, what arewe looking for in the in this game
tomorrow night? Here? Uh?Against the lines, it should be interesting
Lyndon Wood. Like you said, this is a positive for Lindenwood for only
(02:13:58):
holding Wisconsin is six games. ButI feel like tomorrow it could feel like
it though it doesn't feel like losingsix nothing, but it feels like Wisconsin,
Uh could put their foot on thegas even more here against the Lions
tomorrow night. Yeah, tomorrow withthe puck drop at three o'clock in the
afternoon, so so they get toto move it up, so not much
time for rest. And you know, if you're Lindenwood, you know,
(02:14:22):
especially on defense, you're going towant to rest. The legs are gonna
need the ice bath after the game, and it's it's gonna be tough.
I think there's some things for forboth teams to take away, whether whether
it's you know, looking at thefilm and just kind of learning experiences from
the first game of the season. You know, Wisconsin is going to be
able to learn some things as wellfrom this first game. London Wood,
(02:14:45):
Uh, they're gonna try, butit's just it's too much. It's overpowering
the talent that Wisconsin has out thereon the ice. It's gonna be too
much for the lines to overcome, and it will be a very interesting match
tomorrow night. So Wisconsin's sixth Lindenwoodzero. For those of you whomen listening,
