Speaker 1 (00:00):
On ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports station.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yeah, let's do it Sidney three to sixty thanks to
Penn Station. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Let's get
right into it because a couple hours north of Cincinnati
this weekend is Summer Slam. It's happening with SmackDown tonight,
SummerSlam tomorrow and Austin. We are lucky enough to have
boots on the ground. It's our own guy, Ricky Ringside.
(00:28):
Rick Uccino is joining us right now. Rick, what's up?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
What's going on? How's it going, Rick?
Speaker 2 (00:34):
It's gotta be nice not to have to leave the
state of Ohio for a pay per view. Albeit it
would be nice if it was in Cincinnati, but still
we're getting closer.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah, and it would be nice if the sun was
shining on downtown. Clear, it's Cleveland. It is currently not. Yeah,
it's clear, it is currently not. We are in talk
to a few of the locals here. We are apparently
in day fourteen to the last fifteen, where it is
cloudy and rainy right now in the city by the lake.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Sounds right.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
We'll see how this goes for an outdoor stadium event tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Can you tell us and the listeners what a press
junket actually is. We use the term junket a lot
as a reference to as it works to wrestling. What
is a junket?
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, so that's where WWE parades in about. I would
say there was about sixty media outlets who are there
this morning, and there's two ninety minute sessions where they
will trot in four to five members of their roster
and it's basically line up like you're in a line
for the Diamond back at ex Kings Island. You pick
(01:42):
what superstar you want to talk to, and then you
wait in line and wait till it's your turn, and
then you get up there and you get to talk
to them for three to five minutes, and then if
you're lucky enough, there'll be more time where you can
get in somebody else's line and talk to them. So, yeah,
it is a fun time. It's a lot of it's
a lot of hurry up and wait and then you've
got to be ready to go and a bunch of
(02:03):
US media members just shooting the you know what as
we wait chat. I did get the chat with Bailey today,
I got to talk to Baron Corbyn as well as
Jade Cargill talk about her connection to the Cincinnati red
on Sports Illustrated with him there you go. That'll be
coming out here soon on Sports Illustrated Cincinnati Reds talk websites,
(02:24):
so lots of good stuff coming up here soon.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
It is a loaded card in my opinion for a
Summer Slam event. Seem Punk actually on ESPN the other
day said it felt like a WrestleMania type of card.
I want to get into a couple of the main matches.
Give me though, one of those sleeper matches in your
opinion that that has a chance to uh to be
really really good.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
I think Damian Priest and Gunther is going to steal
the show. I think I think Gunther is just this
guy who you know, big six foot seven Austrian guy,
takes this stuff very very seriously, and he is brutalizing
(03:08):
to watch in the ring, and he goes for realism,
where you have so many people who trend these days,
who try to rely on their athleticism and how many
flips that they can do, and they try to make
moves look as cool as possible. Gunther is very very
old school, and he just lays into people you look
at the photo that Finn Balor tweeted after his match
(03:30):
with gunther On on Monday, and his chest looks like
raw hamburger meat. This dude just a big, beefy miss
just lays into people and he can get the best
match out of anybody. Tell him, if you went twenty
minutes with this guy, it would be at least a
four star match. Guys that good in the ring, and
(03:53):
I think Damian Priest has really stepped up as the
World heavyweight champion. He's had a couple of like Misha
apps along the way. Like his last two big title defenses,
there were like two really big, I don't want to
say botches, but just like mishaps, like he had. The
ring ropes were like really loose in Canada, and he
(04:16):
ends up like flipping over and twisting his leg in
the ropes and gets hung upside down. He's wrestling seth
rollins and he ends up getting knocked out and he
misses kicking out of his recount, which almost was disastrous
at Money in the Bank. But his matches have been good.
He's due for a really, really big, memorable world title defense,
(04:36):
and I think it's gonna be with Gunter this weekend.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Let me give you a couple of rapid fire questions
of what you think will happen in that gunther Damian Priest.
Do you think Finn Balor interferes with Damian Priest that
could cost him?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah? I do. I think. I think the Judgment Day
as we know it is gonna be uh is gonna
unpload this weekend.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Let's stick with the Judgment Day. Does Dirty dom Mysterio
turn on Rhea Ripley this weekend?
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Yes? Yes, and he's going to help Lid Morgan retain
the Women's World Championship.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Is this finally the time where La Night Yeah gets
a title?
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yes? And it should be after yesterday. And now I'll
leave it at that.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Okay, I like this. Give me Damie or Cody Rhodes
solo so CoA. I think Cody wins. But do we
get the return of Roman reigns? And if so, how
big is the pop?
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Uh? If there was a route? Let me put it
this way, if Roman Range shows up in Cleveland, it
will blow the roof off of the new Cleveland brown
Stadium that hasn't even been built yet. Man, all right,
like that? That's that's the insane amount of pop that
is going to happen if and when Roman Range shows up.
I do believe we get Roman. I think tomorrow night,
(05:53):
the main event, Cody is going in this thing uh
one on four. I think Johnny Gargano, the hometown kid
from Cleveland who literally told me last week on these
airways he just wants to do something in Cleveland Brown Stadium.
He's currently not on the card. I think he and
Tamaso Champa, who have been involved with the Bloodline. They're
defending their tag team titles tonight at the Rocket Mortgage
(06:14):
field House in Cleveland against the Bloodline. I think they
show up to help even the odds or at least
make it a four to three fight in the main
event tomorrow, to a huge pop for Johnny in front
of his hometown fans. Cody finds a way to get
the win, but then the Hounds sick. It's going to
be a four on one affair. Cody's getting beat down,
and that is when Roman Range shows back up, and
(06:35):
it's going to be Roman and Cody, the two opponents
from WrestleMania forty, are going to be standing side by
side fighting Romans own family to end the show. I
cannot wait. That's why, that's what I think is going
to happen.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
One of the best lead ins rick that I can
remember in recent memory for a match has been the
back and forth between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. Now
you throw in special guest referee Seth Rollins, so torn
on this who wins this match and how much of
a factor does rollins play?
Speaker 1 (07:06):
I think rollins play is a huge factor. I do
think Drew McIntyre wins. I think Drew McIntyre wins because
I think that is the split that needs to happen.
Because this is this has been going on since long
time Royal Rumble, and it's been so masterfully built because typically,
(07:27):
tom we don't see these kinds of storylines surrounding people
who are injured. This all started with CM Punk tearing
his triceps in the Royal Rumble match while he was
squaring off with Drew McIntyre, and they had been able
to carry this entire story until right now without these
two really coming to blows. Now, Cempunk has done a
(07:47):
little bit here or there with physicality, costing Drew McIntyre
the World Championship on two separate occasions. One being at
WrestleMania where we really first all see Empunk start to
throw blows. But the include vision of Seth Rollins here
makes me think that McIntyre is going to come out
on top. He's going to be able to wash his
hands clean of CM punk and then we can move
(08:08):
into that punk Seth Rollins rivalry that we were robbed
of that we were supposed to get at WrestleMania this year,
but we didn't because cmpunk towards triceps. Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Finally, what is it like in person to watch bron
Breaker run the ropes?
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Ah? Dude, I don't have the words.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
It's incredible.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Dude, who's It's an absolute physical He's a freak. He's
just an absolute physical freak. He's got all the best
traits of his Hall of Fame father and uncle and
the Steiner Brothers for those who don't know, and he's
going to be a massive mega superstar. The guy is
so lightning fast. He hits like a ton of bricks.
He's one of those dudes who if I was a performer,
(08:49):
I'd be like, nah, I'm good. No, I don't think
I want to get in the ring with him. He's insane.
It's incredible to watch, just watching him run from like
one side of the ring to the other and how
fast he's able to turn the corners. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Do you think anything can happen on SmackDown tonight that
could make for an addition for Summer Slam tomorrow? Do
the Wyatt Six make an appearance, Chad Gable, anything that
you think carries over from tonight tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
I think the card is going to stay where it's at.
It's already at seven matches. I do think we're going
to get I would not be surprised to see the
Bloodline win the tag team titles tonight, or at least
do some kind of angle to where Johnny and Tomaso
are going to want to get even with them and
that allows them to show up in the main event
(09:38):
tomorrow and help out Cody Rhodes. I think that's it.
But off the top of my head, besides the women's
tag team title match and the men's tag team title
match tonight, I don't really know if anything else is
going to get at it. I think it's going to
stay at seven matches.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
