This is Skyline Chile. Since hethree sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored
in part by Skyline Chile. Stopby Skyline Chili for a three way or
cheeze Coney today. Feeling good,It's Skyline time. This is ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. There weall, now, this is how we
(00:38):
started Monday. I fill that shoe. Welcome all that fresh congress. It's
since he three p sixty. I'mback in my helm. Clee. We
are a service. Okay, skyLine chilling the huddle, listening to the
(01:03):
call man. Just rename it FansGone Crazy, Austin. That is us.
Now. We are now the boysof Fall and that club. It's
a private club. And we gavethe Reds every opportunity to continue this summer.
(01:25):
But after watching what I had towatch over the three game stretch against
the Detroit Tigers, Austin, Ihave claimed that today we are the boys
of Fall, kings of the schoolman. We're the boys of Fall.
One time you're in tann and passesthat stress flash. It's yeah, we
(01:47):
want the ball. We want theball. Advanced, young heads and tough.
All right, God, I loveFalls. Yeah you know it.
It feels like the season and itliterally is God bless football. But the
season is so close right now.And uh, you could say you're listenings
(02:08):
to Sincy three sixty. You maybe listening to the Boys of Fall going
forward. You know, it's funny. On on Friday, Chad Brindle was
in for Moeggar and I produced hisshow and we did a little bit of
talking like this, pretending like wc K why was a country music station.
And you know, sometimes I'll getinto this and I'll get into a
(02:29):
little bit of Jerry Joneses. Youknow, Dak's a leader, Yeah,
out of a boot, out ofa bootjack, and we're glad he's out
of that boot because Dak's a leaderfor our football team. But sometimes I
just want to play country music andtalk about football town. Yeah, that's
where we're out today. Man,what a start. That is how you
start a Monday again, thanks toour friends at Skyline Chili. And that's
(02:51):
it hit me last night. Anythingto get your mind off of it.
It hit me last night. Wego over, we go over to my
parents' house and by the way,I hope everyone had a great Fourth of
July. We got all my fingers, got all my toes, saw some
fantastic firework displays multiple over the weekend, whent and and took in a Reds
(03:13):
game, took the kids down toa Reds game, took in the pageantry
of this great country. And Iremember Austin's Thursday, my father in law's
birthday, were sitting, got toget together for him, and the Reds
had just clinched a three game sweepof the New York Yankees. And I'm
thinking, this is America, thisis America. America is alive. The
(03:34):
Reds are alive. This is goingto be a great month of July.
What a way to springboard in tothe end of July with training camp.
We're in a good place. Fastforward to uh to yesterday. I'm ready
to burn the ship down. I'mready to tear it all down. But
I was. I was listening.Last night we go over to my parents'
house. My dad has this thinghe does Austin where he just plays YouTube
(04:00):
videos uh huh, Like not songs, but like videos that people will take
on their phone at concerts, andhe likes to listen to those. Oh
really, And I'm always like he'sthe only person on earth this does that.
Yes, because he's like that, this is the live feel blah blah
blah. As we're getting ready topack up and leave last night, he
says, let me give you mymy favorite Kenny Chesney song, and he
(04:21):
pulled up The Boys of Fall Manand I'm like, man, this feels
like where we need to go withthings. Because football, it was the
first thing you said to Meay, football can't come soon enough. I said,
cue up, boys a fall fortwelve noon to day. Yes,
all right, we'll get into thesweep at the hands of the Detroit Tigers.
(04:42):
We'll get into Yes, the teamstruck out thirty nine times in a
three game set. The bullpen wasn'tgreat. More airs, more player struggles,
the injuries. At this point, how can you even keep up?
But fear not. Austin Slater isnow Cincinnati. Read let's go. The
Reds have acquired Austin Slater. Willtell you more about that move. We'll
tell you about the All Star forthe Cincinnati Reds, Elie de la Cruz,
(05:03):
And uh, well, we'll havea conversation about uh executives in Major
League Baseball and some some big decisionscoming up. And there is an executive
from the local team that is missingfrom a list that Jeff Passing made.
And we'll talk about perhaps why FCCincinnati. What's the word for what they
did to Inner Miami on Saturday, dominate and cruel and unusual punishment. It
(05:28):
was unbelievable. Yeah. Inner Miamientered the game, uh two points ahead
of f C Cincinnati. How theyleave the standings? They left the game
behind f C Cincinnati in the standardthat game should have been worth more than
three. That should have been worthsix. You beat a team by five,
you should get five points. Sixas in the amount of goals FC
Cincinnati scored. What what if that'sthe way points were counted. The amount
(05:51):
of goals you win by is howmany points you get? Yeah? Oh,
for those keeping score at home, those six f C Cincinnati goals two
more than the amount of points BronnieJames scored in his summer league debut twelve.
Those six on a Monday. Takethat, Bronni, Come on,
we have to get to f CCincinnati. And it got me thinking,
(06:13):
you and I had this conversation lastnight or was it earlier today? The
days are running together now because I'mso excited for football season to be here,
just my boy fall, but uh, it's the biggest Cincinnati Sports win,
one of the bigger Cincinnati sports wins, and not from an upset standpoint,
but going into a game where theexpectation was at an all time high,
the best versus the best. Howmany times in Cincinnati sports history do
(06:40):
those types of games go against CincinnatiSports teams. So today let's maybe take
a look at some of those gamesthat didn't go against Cincinnati Sports. Let's
have a positive spin on a Monday. Not to be included on that list,
probably not many Reds games, notmany Reds wins because they just haven't
happened. But we'll get to that. You'll hear some Pat Noon and Miles
(07:03):
Robinson did make the Olympic roster forthe US men's national team. So we'll
talk about FC Cincinnati's dominant win overInter Miami. And as we talked about
with Boys and Fall, NFL trainingcamps are right around the corner. Joe
Burrow was on with the pardon MyTake, Boys. We've got some audio
from that that we'll use today andtomorrow and more this week. There's a
(07:25):
question being floated out there and ifthe Bengals have a top ten offensive line.
We'll get to that building blocks. And ESPN had a list of top
NFL running backs. Where does thatposition stand going into the football season.
All of that's going to happen withinthe next three hours, along with your
phone calls five, one, three, seven, nine, fifteen thirty.
(07:46):
Before we go any further, let'sreview yesterday's top sports stories, brought to
you by Kloud's Roofing System of Cincinnati, the trusted local roofing and gutter company
visit KRS Sincy with ay dot com. That's ko Sinc dot com. Outside
of everything we just talked about, you tweeted something. I believe it was
(08:07):
Saturday, Austin. You tweeted outyou were at a local bar, a
local establishment. I was, andthey flipped off a game at the start
of the Indiana Fever game. Itwas it was one o'clock on the nose
and I was sitting there enjoying mybeverage, waiting on a couple of friends,
(08:28):
and I'm excited to watch Yankees RedSox Yankee Stadium, beautiful Saturday,
yes, and the bartender comes over, flips it over to channel twelve and
I see new York Liberty at IndianaFever. Yeah, And I was like,
hell, yeah, Sabrina ynesquep atCaitlin Clark, sign me up for
this better than those two baseball teams. And the Liberty crushed him in three
(08:50):
previous laborties crushed him. Not thistime. I wasn't sure exactly how.
First of all, I'd never experiencedthat before where a WNBA game gets turned
on, and second of all, people seem to be into it. Yeah,
Kaitlyn Clark hit three threes in thefirst quarter. People were clapping,
people were cheering. It was agood time. First WNBA rookie to ever
(09:13):
have themselves a triple double. It'spretty cool. She was awesome over the
weekend and it continues to grow thesport. She had nineteen twelve and thirteen
in the win over the Liberty beforewe came on air. Today, Dan
Hurley is now a paid man. He's paid higher. Dan Hurley got a
six year, fifty million dollar raisefrom the Yukon Huskies. Six years fifty
(09:41):
million of those things from Yukon.Speaking of college basketball, let me ask
you a question before you get there. I'm gonna this is a complete ripoff
of Paul Papps from Dan Patrick shutout, Paul, I just want to
ask you this question. Yeah, not to make it a topic, but
you just want to get your responseto it. Okay, More like to
be coaching in the NBA in threeyears, Oh, Dan Hurley, JJ
(10:03):
Reddick, Oh wow, I'll sayJJ Reddick okay, because I don't think
JJ Reddick's expectations are huge. TheLakers have missed out on everybody. They
missed out on Klay Thompson. Theyjust missed out on DeMar DeRozan, who
by the way, goes to theSacramento Kings, so they've missed out on
every free agent. I don't thinkthere's a ton of expectation for the Lakers,
(10:26):
which makes some of these Bronnie Jamesprops that the season has very interesting.
To me, I'm not interested inany Bronnie James brob speaking of hoops.
How do you feel about this? And I'll extend this to our fans
in Big Blue Nation? Arkansas men'sbasketball Austin tweeted this earlier today, going
for Gold, and it has apicture of Bam out of Bayo, Devin
(10:52):
Booker, and Anthony Davis all intheir team USA uniforms. And they tag
team USA, USA Basketball and coachcal arc My question to you, can
they claim those three players in aTWEETU, No, are the players for
the university? Are they for thecoach? Well, because they are claiming
(11:15):
these three players because coach cal coachedthem. As now it's like, hey,
those are our guys. We're rootand form for the twinter gold Man.
I don't think they're claiming those players. I think they're saying our coach
coach these guys and now they're inthe Olympics, as if to tell recruits
you can be this too if youcome play for coach coach Cal. I
don't think Arkansas is claiming those players. Yeah, I do understand how it
(11:37):
looks. Number One, genius bythem to get to get engagement and impressions.
Number Two, I think in today'sday and age, you do play
for the coach more than you playfor this. I'm just thinking of our
guy like Ken from the Lax orany of our other big Blue Nation listeners
like oh Man, Yeah, youplay for the name on the front of
the jersey of coach Ducky Wilde.Of those three, only Anthony Davis won
(12:01):
a championship, right, true?So that would be the one I'd have
a problem with. Yeah. NowI wonder if Kentucky has done anything with
that yet, and if not,you got to think they're pretty late to
the party here, right, youknow. I mean you would think.
Now there's a two days ago,I don't know what they've what they've been
(12:22):
saying, a picture of Anthony Davisgetting his team USA uniform. But here's
Arkansas just parading around. It's abrilliant move by Arkansas. Love it.
They deserve credit for that. Loveit number one. Keep the rivalry going.
I get a little big mad absolutelyengagement conversation. Coach Kal, We're
talking about it. It's perfect. Here are the boys of Fall day,
(12:43):
we're talking about it, the boysof winter. Ooh okay. Speaking of
the Olympics, did you see MilesRobinson has been selected the FC Cincinnati center
back shout out. Miles went withthe men's national team at Copa America and
did not get selected once to playin one of the games, never was
(13:03):
used as a sub in Copa Americaand he gets picked to go with the
U twenty threes to the Paris Olympics. Now he is the first ever f
C Cincinnati player to play in theOlympics. So that's cool, but that
that hurts the local ball club.It does, it does. The joker
Novak Djokovic still alive at Wimbledon.Cocoa golf is out at Wimbledon, and
(13:28):
Wimbledon is seen Austin. I don'tknow if you've seen this at all.
A big drop in attendance for thisweek's Wimbledon. A lot of people say
it's because of rain, summer sayingit's because of England's run in the Euros
in soccer, but Wimbledon's seen alittle bit of a of a dip as
well. Is it Wimbledon or WimbledonWimbledon. I think I hear people say
(13:50):
both. I think it's so.I don't know how you I am b
L E D right, oh,and I know how it's spelled. I'm
going Wimbledon, but people call itas well. Okay, we'll see,
we'll get the sheriff Sam. Justspin from that to the All White Party.
Can't wait? Can you explain theAll White Party? No, dude,
(14:13):
I can't. I cannot explain it. I don't understand it. I
can't wait for the documentaries to comeout. About the things that happen at
that party. It is. It'sI think it's scary. So for those
who don't know, it's Michael RubensAll White party is a giant party at
Michael Ruben's house in the Hamptons. And Michael Rubin is like this big,
(14:35):
big businessman. He owns fanatics.Yes, he's billionaire, whole nine yards
and he throws a huge party everyyear. You have to wear all white.
No phones are allowed. I'm assumingthey have to sign nda. So
you get like invited through a boxin the mail with a pair of shoes
and like all sorts of stuff. And it's one of the They have people
(14:56):
that go around and make a videoand they take photos and they post it.
It's unreal. People from one ofthe one of the bigger photos this
year, Jamar Chase, Joe Burrow, Livy Dunn and Odell Beckham Junior.
Yeah all together. Yeah, solike those everybody imaginable is there, from
Aiden Ross to Tom Brady to KevinHart to Joe Burrow to who knows Tom
(15:18):
Brady got picked off on the beach, all sorts of rappers, DeMar Hamlin.
Damar Hamlin's there, like all sortsof things. And here's the thing.
I said this with Chad on Friday. I'm gonna say it again.
I might get dragged for this,I don't care. Every time I've ever
seen a photo of Michael Rubin,he looks exactly like Justin Timberlake did in
his d w I photo. MichaelRubin always looks like he's under the influence
(15:43):
of something. He can't smile. He looks like in every photo that there's
a cry for help. I hopeMichael Rubin is okay. I'm worried about
people spending significant amounts of time aroundhim and his company ruined Major League Baseball's
uniforms. That's all I have tosay about that. That's the White Party.
Sad news. Over the weekend,we will mention Kyrie Jackson, a
(16:04):
very talented, talented young player forthe Minnesota Vikings, was one of I
believe three to pass away in acar accident over the weekend as well.
Yeah, terrible stuff. I thinkthey think drunk driving was involved in that
Kyrie Jackson. Earlier in the offseason, Justin Jefferson was asked, give me
a player who was going to makea big difference on this year's team,
(16:27):
and he mentioned Kyrie Jackson as thatplayer. Yeah. So just a devastating
news twenty four years old for notonly Kyrie Jackson, at the other two
that lost their life as well overthe weekend. And if you see the
photos from the accident, it's justnot good. Scout wrenching man. Can't
even possibly imagine, can't even fathomit. All right, that's all we
(16:48):
have for the first second. One. Oh, okay, did you see
the news about the US Ryder Cupteam. No, you gotta have Bryson
right. Well, all I knowis that the captain has been named or
according to Sports Illustrated Golf, KeeganBradley will be named the US Ryder Cup
captain for Bethpage in twenty twenty fivehight Kigs as they look to bounce back
(17:10):
from their failures last year. SoKeegan Bradley, who, if you watch
the Full Swing documentary last year, was kind of on the edge of his
seat about making the team, isgoing to be the captain for beth Page
twenty twenty five. Shout out toSpeaking of twenty twenty five, now I
had to go one more as learnedat Money in the Bank this weekend from
the WWE twenty twenty five will beit for John Cena. I did see
(17:33):
a funny tweet that say they shouldhang John Cena's georts from the rafters like
a band. John Cena will callit quits in five. Now you know
John Cena follows No, he waslike active still. I thought he called
it quits a lot time ago.Do you know he follows eight hundred thousand
people on Twitter? It sounds right. He said. The reason I want
(17:53):
to follow everyone is because I wantto hear from everyone. You get everyone's
opinion and through that you can developyour own opinions. I've got to be
honest. There's a lot of negativity. I want to be exposed to all
of it, even to toxicity.I'm curious and I don't ever want to
lose my curiosity for life. It'sfunny you say that, because I recently
so on on my phone. Ihave like eight Twitter accounts because I run
(18:15):
we have burners. I don't haveany burners. I don't, but I
helped run some of the station accountsaround here. And I got a notification
not that long ago that said JohnCena is now following me. Oh,
and I was excited and I tappedon it and he's just following one of
our radio staates. You can't seehim, Yeah, I can't see him.
By the way, you mentioned hangingjeorts. I'm seeing in here that
someone submitted the hanging of a newbanner in the studio here. Oh really,
(18:41):
Red's swept the Yankees this season.Hell yeah, all right, so
maybe a new banner going up todayas well to the Phillies banner. Yep,
and the Dodgers. We've got aton to get to today. We
are just getting started. Yes,we'll dive into the Reds being swept by
the Detroit Tigers, and help ison the way. Reds fans since three

Wait, there's a shot to centerfield crushed by a deep Now this baw
is long go What a shot byRappie his second home run of the day.
It's three nothing. Red Sox istwenty first of the year, fifty
five RBIs twenty eight home runs againstthe Yankees at sixteen here in the Bronx.
(20:48):
Oh is that mail? Hey?Wait to see the tail of the
tape four twenty fourty three. Ithought it was longer than that, even
one hundred and seven miles an hour. What a no doubt or three nothing
Red Sox. He smoked it.I just don't know why you pitch it
to him right now. I mean, when he's in this zone, you
got a side arm, three quarterlefty, He's got nothing to get Devers
(21:10):
out of nothing? Yeah, nothingis the case. Raphael Devers hotter than
the surface of the sun right now. Austin as are the Red Sox.
As are the Red Sox. Wewatch out with a lot of injuries,
and they didn't spend a lot ofmoney in the offseason, despite the fact
that they have the ability to spenda lot of money that they didn't,
And then they got players that aregood enough for them to win games in
the hardest division in Major League Baseball. How about that? All of that
(21:30):
what Austin just said, along withthat home run makes Rafael Devers the power
player of yesterday's games. Brought toyou by Cincinnati Tax Resolution powered by Tove
Sheldon. Raphael Devers. That homerun that we just played was I think
a fastball up and away from him, Yeah, and he pulled it into
right center for a four hundred andtwenty three foot home run. Seeing things
(21:53):
clearly, talk the board clearly, you talk about seeing it clear? Speaking
of seeing things, was the BostonRed Sox radio network in that series?
Did you see u? Anthony Rizzois out right now for the Yankees,
so they bring in Ben Rice.Did you see his weekend? I did
not. Ben Rice comes in andplays first base for Anthony Rizzo. He's
(22:18):
twenty five years old. Yeah,he's where at number ninety three. He
proceeds on Saturday to hit three homeruns and bank seven RBIs in the leadoff
role for the New York Yankees. He didn't even know how to do a
curtain call. They had to explainto him how to do a curtain call.
And it's already led to the Yankeesannouncers talking about what do you do
Whenrizzo comes back? Oh, that'strue. It's a good point. Ben
(22:42):
Rice comes up and hits three homeruns. Meanwhile, I'm watching Santiago espinal
pitch hit for the Reds in aneeded situation. Do you know Ben Rice's
middle name white chicken Fried Brown?Chicken Fried's better? All right? That
was the Yankees Red Sox over theweekend. I want to get to the
(23:03):
Reds, but I still need afew minutes. So let's take a couple
of calls. I don't know ifI'm ready for. I have a feeling
the calls are going to be aboutthe Reds, so you might have to,
you know, deal with it,you know, speaking of let's just
let's let's let's go with Mark offthe bat here. I can't imagine Mark's
frustration in watching these three games athome. Let's hear about him, Mark,
what's up? I was at thegame Friday. Yeah, when when
(23:29):
when I saw that play when Stevensonground at the third base and Blake Dunn
tried to score, I had afeeling right then and there they was gonna
lose the whole series. It's something. This something just came over me and
said, oh, man, theydone swept the Yankees, not about to
give it back. You mean thecontact play which works against the Reds but
never for the Reds. Yeah, that's what David Belle. David Bell talked
(23:55):
about it after the game, andI just what I told myself was to
make myself feel better was everything inlife. The good thing about life is
all ears will come to an end. The David Bell Analytics era Baseball hope
that they're doing down there, thatwill have to come to an end at
(24:18):
some point in the life. Andyou know, the fans got more control
than they know they got. Allthey got to do is to stop going
to the games and force these ownersto do something because what they're doing is
not working. And like I said, I just I don't know what to
say. But what makes me feelgood is to call in or listen to
(24:41):
Austin Ellmore beat up on David Bellin the front office. There you go.
I love I'm loving it because everythingI said at the beginning of the
season, seeing it, Yeah, okay, I'm hoping I'll make this point.
I'll get off. I'm hoping thatthe deadline that they're sellers sell Jamber
and Frankie get what you can andthat outfielder that Oakland has. You know,
(25:06):
you got to give up something toget something. Yeah. So so,
but it's kind it's kind of hardfor me to see Jonathan India go
because you don't know what Matt McLaneis gonna be when he comes back.
Yeah, there's a lot of unknown. Yeah, shoulder injuries. I didn't
listen. I didn't get to listento the podcast when you had the doctor
on about the shoulder injuries. Butyou know you gotta wait and see on
(25:33):
that. So I'm I'm just hopingthey get rid of Jamber and Frankie.
Yeah, Mark, I appreciate it. Thank you, Austin if if they
are sellers, is India sold foryou? Uh? Yeah, I even
because Mark does make a good pointof we assume that it's McLain, but
what if McLain is not where heneeds to be. And yeah, again,
(25:57):
we talked about Cees going into theyear. Now he's out, but
he wasn't lighting it up by anymeans. Nove Marte has been just a
brutal watch at the plate. He'sgot five hours and ten games. It's
not a guarantee that the infield issaid and your most consistent player. Ellie
is consistent, but your most consistenthas been Jonathan India, who could be
(26:17):
maybe at the top of that listof a team that comes calling if things
don't go well for the Reds.Let me preface it this way, I
don't trust or believe in the Redsorganization to do anything right. That being
said, if their strategy is thatwe are not going to spend a lot
of money in free agency, thenwhat you have to do is build through
young players and through acquiring players intrades. And so if that is who
(26:42):
they are going to be, ifthat is their identity, then Jonathan India
fits the mold as one of theplayers with the highest value on this team
right now to trade for and getsomething in return that will help you down
the line. Again, I don'ttrust them to do that correctly. I
don't trust them to spend money infree agency, and so I believe that
no matter what they do, Ineed to see it to believe it.
(27:04):
But it's a perfect example of likehe is a guy with the highest value,
Alexis Diaz has very high value rightnow. Frankie Muntas could get you
something decent in return. Buck Farmerhas probably been their best reliever over the
last two months. He could getyou something in return. Now, these
aren't significant returns, but these arethe players who are the highest value,
(27:26):
right. I mean, you gota guy who is just an average run
of the mill big league ballplayer, for Alex Young, who hasn't pitched up
here ye but twice this year orwhatever it is, statistically could be your
second best hitter in the lineup ifhe's in there to that. Yeah,
so you know, I don't knowexactly what it's going to look like,
but yeah, I think if youare going to sell, you have to
consider all of this when selling.Yeah, the Austin Slader move essentially was
(27:51):
forced because Nick Martini is now onthe injured list. Stuart Fairchild missed yesterday's
game. They've got no one inthe outfield right now. It is a
brutal stretch for the Cincinnati Reds.Marcus is calling in what's up, Marcus?
So to go on your Kentucky thingearlier? If Arkansas claiming Kentucky players
(28:14):
is a casualty to get in Calout of Lessington, I'm okay, that's
that's a fine trade. And youknow I claim myself sometimes to be a
millionaire, but my but my bankaccount claims that I'm not interesting. So
they can claim the players, butI, I mean, you can claim
a lot of things. But yeah, I don't know what I watched this
(28:40):
weekend. Uh Friday, I wasso high, yep. I I even
left talk back with Austin off Fridayand said, if this is a variable
very winnable homestand we go seventh threeor better, we got a winning record
of the break, and then wedo this and I'm just in that contact
(29:02):
play. I know it's not goingto happen, but that needs to stop.
It's not working. There's just atime and a place. You've got
the winning run on base, andyou run yourself out of it instead instead
of giving a hitter and a consistent, pretty consistent hitter a chance to win
the game and his next to bat. So frustrating, Marcus, I'm with
you. We got to get abreak. Thanks for your call, Marcus,
(29:25):
thank you for listening. All right, let's do that, Austen.
Let's when we get back, let'srun through what this weekend was for the
Cincinnati Reds. We'll start with Friday, We'll finish with Sunday, We'll get
to more phone calls. So muchstill ahead. Sincey three to sixty thanks

You Bad and Tam it's so oh. Then you can choose your hands.
Yeah, come on, we're atat at all time Get Angel Ridge today.
We're an all time high on songsalready on the show. I might
(30:19):
let this, I gotta let this. The chorus hit here. It's a
constant battle between the Reds and myselfright now where it is? Come on,
yep, the Reds, it's allI see. Man. Swing the
gates open real quick, Austin thereit is. Yeah, come on,
(30:44):
I only got to go seven andover the next seven. They're back in
it. They want me to theywant me to buy back in. I
bought back in Friday. I wentto the game. They got me hook
and sinker. The Reds are mydevil in me. Thank you, Alan
Jackson, Thank you for listening.Since three Friendly ESPN fifteen thirty, a
(31:08):
service of Skyline Chili. Look itworked, on me. Austin. It
worked again because I sat there withmy family on the fourth of July and
I watched the Red sweep the Yankees, and I said, I'll be damn,
I'm going to the game tomorrow becauseit's it just feels like it's there.
(31:32):
You you take three from New Yorkin Yankee Stadium, you ride that
momentum all the way to the break. Watch out, watch out n L,
watch out National League. And Iwent Friday, and so did a
lot of people. Austin. Iwill say this, and I know it's
firework Friday. The crowd Friday nightwas awesome. Forty six and sixty three
(31:56):
packed in. It's a great Americanballpark. And that's thing like, regardless
of what happens on the field, you attested this because you went this weekend
as well. Austin. It's anawesome ballpark to go watch a game.
The atmosphere I just Friday Night broughtback so much because of the way the
(32:16):
stadium and part of me it's like, man, I really don't like the
stadium. It's full because it's hardwith kids to move around. But uld
you rather be a winning ball clubor where gonna take my kids. But
Friday night, I felt like Igot a preview of the home run derby
very rarely Austin. The Tigers hitfour home runs on Friday. Not one
(32:39):
of those home runs landed under fourhundred feet. They were massive, massive.
I'm watching like we're sitting down inthe third inning and up to the
plate walks Parker Meadows, and Parker'sgot a botting average on the year of
point zero eight nine. And ParkerMeadows, I think, almost hit one
(33:00):
into the river, like, man, okay, eventually you're everyone's gonna run
into one. And then Colt Keith, Oh, Colt Keith, he damn
here hit two into the river.I mean, they hit absolute bombs on
Friday night. And here's the kicker, right, because you go in and
(33:22):
you win three at Yankee Stadium andSpires, Carson Spires is on the mound
and he gives up these three mammothblasts and it's four nothing going into the
fifth and you're starting to think, like, all right, that's a long
time to wait between now and thefireworks, that the Reds are gonna get
boat raced. Maybe we just callit a night. And then Spencer Steer,
(33:43):
Holmers and then they get another oneback in the sixth and you're thinking,
okay, four to two. Nowyou're in striking distance. It was
a Riley Green home run in theseventh to make it five to two,
and then the ninth it didn't happens. Now, I don't know, with
not being there Austin, if youwatched every single out on Friday. The
(34:06):
Reds start the ninth and Ellie dayLa Cruz gets on, he almost gets
thrown out. Why is he stealingsecond? And that's a great question.
He he nearly gets thrown out atsecond, which would have been the most
maddening thing of all, but insteadhe gets on. Spencer Steer gets himself
an infield single. Nick Martini triples, and all of a sudden, you're
(34:29):
feeling pretty good. At five tofour, you're down a run. It
feels like you got a chance becauseI believe at that point Candelarios struck out.
So there's one out you've got,uh Nick Martini now on third,
Tyler Stevenson grounds, grounds the ballto third, and what do we do?
(34:50):
Blake done on the contact, runshome, just runs home. One
out, down one. The ball'sright in front of you. It's not
to the right side. It's rightthere to the third baseman, and because
the contact plays on, Dunn runshome, done gets tossed. And then,
(35:12):
to add insult to injury, Austin, the very next batter Nove Marte
singles, which would have scored BlakeDunn. At the end, just maddening.
It's a maddening way to lose agame. And I know that games
that Carson Spyers starts the Reds probablyaren't going to be projected to win many
of them, but it felt likeFriday Night at the end, there was
(35:35):
still a game there for the taking. That moves to Saturday. Austin,
you were at this game Saturday, you said earlier, probably one of the
most if not the most frustrating losson the season for the Cincinnati Reds.
Hunter Green was awesome. Not eventhat it was the worst loss of the
season. Oh my gosh, it'sa bullpen day for the Tigers. Hunter
(35:58):
Green goes seven of three hit baseball, strikes out seven, and he exits
the game with a two to nothinglead going into the eighth. And you're
thinking, all right, so FridayNight away, win this win Sunday two
out of three from the Tigers.Everything is still ahead of this team.
Instead, it's a five run eighthinning for the Detroit Tigers. I can't.
(36:24):
I can't bash on Bell a lotbecause we talked earlier. You get
to the eighth and it's Cruise andDZ. That's what it's supposed to be.
Cruise got roughed up, Sam Maullgot roughed up, Lucas Simms could
not contain the bleeding, and theReds lose it five to three. You
think that David Bell should have sentHunter Green out to the eighth. He
(36:47):
had one hundred and four pitches.I believe the only argument I would make
to sending Hunter back out is howefficient Hunter Green was in the seventh.
He was awesome in seventh. Imean, you want to talk three up,
three down very quickly for Hunter Green. That's the only way I'm going
(37:09):
and saying, okay, go backout for the eighth and if there's any
sign, any sign of trouble, get him out of the game. That's
the only argument. And I couldI can listen and I can accept that
argument as it pertains. But whatwere your from being down there? What
were your thoughts in takeaway? AndI'll be honest I wasn't really paying much
attention to the game, all right, but you know, looking back on
(37:31):
it, watching how it went,I kind of agree with you in the
sense of give Hunter a chance andsee how it goes, and if you
need to, you can bring inFernando Cruz. Yeah, I think I
have him ready. Either way,the same player gets brought into the game.
Fernando Cruz is coming in regardless ofhow it goes with Hunter Green,
(37:51):
unless he just mows him down inthe eighth, then it goes to DS.
So I would like to know thestat how often has Fernando Cruz entered
a game at the start of aninning? Yeah, as opposed to coming
in in the middle of an inning. He's been terrible his last eight innings
run He's been really bad as oflate. But again, he's been your
(38:13):
most consistent pitcher in big moments allseason long. So a team that had
produced three hits and struck out seventimes through seven innings, you're gonna trust
Fernando Cruz to be able to getthem out. I had no problem with
the move. I could see bothsides of it. No problem with it.
He was Hunter Green was under tenpitches in the seventh, and he
(38:34):
left visibly pumped up, and youknow he gets Cruz, comes in,
gets Gi Orchello to line out ParkerMeadows, then doubles again. You're in
a situation where Fernando Cruz has beenfine in these situations for the majority of
the season. Then credit to ajHinch pinch hitter, brings in Winsel Perez
(38:54):
takes him deep. You know, that's a good move by a good manager
who's won a World Series with theHouston Astros. So now you're all tied
up at two and the wheels falloff. Yeah, knock, Sam mal
comes in another walk this this bullpenjust can't keep walking people. Yeah,
and then giving up extra base hits. So that is the most gut wrenching
loss of the season, to behonest, and to kind of to put
(39:17):
the I guess the last thought ona Hunter Green thing perspective for me,
he cruised through the seventh and hewas scheduled to face seven, eight to
nine in the eighth, so hewasn't going through the top of the order
again, which gives the argument,Okay, if there's any trouble, it
is immediately onto Fernando Cruiz. Butlike the thing, with me, Like,
(39:37):
you know, if Bonyas comes upto the plate in the the the
eighth against Sam Mal, Bonyas ishitting almost four hundred this year against lefties,
and David Bell, and I knowSam Mall has been one of the
better options. Was there no oneelse to face one of the best hitters
in majorly the third best hitter inMajor League Baseball against left handed pitch.
(40:00):
Well, I think that was anaj Hinch thing again because he brings in
Sam Mall and then you go rightface he's on the bench to face Colt
Keith right and uh and aj Hinchgoes to a Banya, So you know
the that's that's two that's two mauresgoing at it, and that's a j.
Hinch being better. Yep. Andhe did the right thing, he
aj Hinch. That's one of thosegames where he won the game for the
(40:22):
Tigers as much like he had asmuch of an impact because his moves directly
paid off in those moments. Bullpengot beat up a little bit Friday,
and on the opposite side of that, Mal and Cruz outside of Diez,
your best two relievers. So it'snot like David Bell. I mean,
you probably couldn't maybe Buck Farmer there, maybe sure, but again, this
(40:45):
is what has led to success forthe Reds all season long, and they
both failed. Yeah, tadd insultto the injury. Yesterday it was Tarik
Scuball. I I didn't know ofhis game going into the year. He's
one of the best pitchers I've seenin Major League baseball. Oh, he's
a beast, you know. AndI guess the only argument I have is
(41:07):
in watching the game and watching thepre game, I am. I'm like,
Okay, here comes a stud pitcherin essentially what feels like I must
win game for the Cincinnati Reds andit's hot out and you're like, okay,
you're not always going to to beatthe other team's best, but can
(41:28):
you make him work? And thefirst inning went like this. First pitch
of the game, Jonathan India groundout Ellie de la Cruz, the second
ball he saw ground out, andthen a three pitch strikeout for Jamer Candelario.
One of the best pitchers in baseball, had to throw six pitches to
get out of the first inning.Six. I thought David Bell managed the
(41:50):
game with urgency. I will givehim that. He was aggressive because Graham
Ashcraft was I'm not going to saycruising along, but Graham Ashcraft was pitching
well. Four and two thirds, six hits, one run, He did
walk three, struck out two.But the second Graham Ashcraft got into trouble,
they pulled him. Sam Mall camein got him out of the jam,
which is good because you know, yes, all season long, Ashcraft
(42:12):
gets into trouble and then he makesit worse on him. But it felt
like David Bell knew one nothing.Yeah, felt can't get worse, Yeah,
it can't get worse. So Sammal did the job. Nick Martinez
comes in and gives up a run. Mckinstree homers in the eighth, Meadows
singles in the eighth, Diez getsbeat up. Now none of the runs
to Diez go is earned because Martehad another air, his fifth throwing air
(42:35):
in ten games. So he's beenjust as bad in the field as he's
been at the plate. Not goodall around for the Cincinnati Reds. We're
gonna talk about this later with NickKrawl, but Nick Martinez, Lemelio Pagan,
Frankie Montas. Yeah, the threebig parts of this offseason in terms
of adding to the pitching staff. What have those guys done? Where are
(42:58):
those guys at? Uh? Forthe series? I sent this to you
and mover over the weekend. Itfelt like every bigot bat. I watched
the Tigers hitters battle foul pitches offand just find a way to put the
ball in play with a runner andscoring position or big parts of the game.
I didn't see that from the Reds, and I haven't seen it all
year. They struck out thirty ninetimes in a three game series, thirty
(43:22):
nine thirty nine strikeouts over three gamesat home after you had just swept the
New York Yankees for the Cincinnati Reds. Make it make sense, somebody today,
Make it make sense? Five one, three, seven, four,
nine, fifteen thirty. We've stillgot a ton to get to with the
Reds, with FC Cincinnati, withthe NFL and the Cincinnati Bengals all ahead,

(47:37):
kind of try to put some typeof bow on this with the Cincinnati Reds.
Jeff, what's up a happy Mondaygents. Unfortunately I have to say
thank you for bringing up the carcrash. Unfortunately that's just right around the
beltway for me. All three ofthose guys went to the high school that's
like Moler in the late seventies earlyeighties. I think they all won for
(48:00):
state championships and never lost the gamethat they played in. Something like that.
And that road is just a notoriousbad news strip of the road too.
It's just it's it's really horrible foreverybody. Yeah, rip to them
and shout out to the family.Definitely, all right. I'll throw it
out. One word to describe theReds at this point of the season.
(48:22):
We've all used frustrating too much.We have to come up with another new
word to describe the season. I'llsay they're crippling. They're crippling to me,
I put like that. I justI put I'm like so many And
Jeff, I'll be the first admitFriday, I bought back in on Friday,
like I need to go to thegame. I want to be there.
(48:42):
The environment's going to be nuts. They sweep the Yankees. That the
schedule in the last ten leading upto the All Star Break is so easy,
I'm buying back in. And whenyou allow yourself to do that and
believe those losses legitimately become crippling. The word I would use is unacceptable.
Yeah, both both very good.I'm sure that was a tough walk out
(49:04):
of the stadium on Friday night, and I think Mark hit all the nails
on the head. I was listeningFriday night. I thought Cowboy was going
to fall out of the food onthe contact play. He's like, you
don't run on that ball, andlet's it tip to the second basement.
In the first basement. Yes,everybody knows that it's right in front of
you, except David Bell and theanalytics team. I guess, so,
(49:25):
well, maybe maybe we can gofive and two over these games and at
least head into the break with somethinga little bit, you know, more
optimistic to look forward to Thursday. It looks like it's TVD. I know
it's off in the future. Dowe think Hunter Green's not going to pitch
on Thursday. I don't think we'veseen or heard anything that would lead us
to believe that. I would assumeit would be Hunter Green again. I
(49:52):
don't see why it wouldn't be.I would assume we get Abbott, mon
Toss Spires, and then you getGreen, Ashcraft, Abbott and Montoss leading.
I think Lodolo is supposed to pitch. Okay, so I'd be good
with that. Tokay, yeah, okay, Well, let's hope you don't
pitch for a blister on his headagain. Please. But I think you
(50:13):
know, everybody's all wrapped up inli as they should be. He's so
exciting to watch. But for me, the best part is so far in
the season has totally been the developmenton her Green that it was such a
masterpiece the other night. He's reallyreally starting to come around to where we
thought he was going to be inHe's probably currently one of the five biggest
bargains in MLB as well, yeah, Jeff well said, and probably one
(50:35):
of the most frustrated pitchers in MajorLeague Baseball right now because of the lack
of production he is. Uh,he's seen, Jeff. Have a great
rest of your Monday. Thank you. Yeah, I have a great day,
boys, Yes, sir, onemore here. Chris is in Kellington.
What's up, Chris? Hey,hey, good good? Yeah?
Great? Uh man, I don'tunderstand the seam that they're so up and
down unbelievable. I just you know, I would never taken Green out of
(51:00):
the game on Saturday night. Thatwas I mean, I'm maybe just the
question for Austin. How many pitchersthis year have had complete games on the
year. It just blows me.What I want to say, there's I
think there's two. We saw oneof them by the uh the Cubs,
justin Steele, and then I thinkone of the no hitters earlier this year.
(51:22):
So I think there's only two.Man. I tell you what twenty
five thirty years ago, you know, back in the day, man,
they were they were throwing all nineinnings. Yeah, I mean, it's
unbelievable. I don't think, Chris, I don't. I don't think it
was ever in the cards for Greento go a complete game because he was
at one, O four. Butas I mentioned before, seven, eight,
(51:42):
nine were coming up in the eighth, he didn't have to go through
the top of the order again, and he had just thrown nine pitches in
the in the seventh inning. Iwould have left him in there and had
a very very short leash. Ohwell exactly. And I tell you what
I mean. You know, evenif he did, you know, give
up one run every up, right, Yeah, yeah, I would have
gave him, you know, atleast Chris, I appreciate it. Thank
(52:06):
you man, all right, man, I feel thanks Chris, you know,
Austin, I guess to to kindof finish off that thought. Had
Hunter Green come out in the eighthinning, and let's say he retired the
first batter and he gives up ahome run to the second, would we
be still having this conversation. Idon't think so. I don't think I
would have got taken out of thegame. Yeah, I don't think it
would have been the opposite of oh, they left Hunter in too long.
(52:29):
No, the argument is easier tokeep him in. I would have him
out. I would have absolutely defendedthe fact that he went seven and a
third and gave up one run onfour hits. I would have been like,
yeah, that's fine, as opposedto the other side. All right,
Uh, the positive and the videoson social media are are cool as
hell at this point. Uh,Ellie de la Cruz is an All Star,
(52:49):
well deserved right, one of theone of the best young faces in
baseball. And I am I'm I'man Ellie de la Cruz fan, and
I know he goes through ups anddowns, and I know he's still learning
because he's hitting from both sides ofthe plate. But for this Reds team,
this year. Who knows where they'reat without Elie de la Cruz.
(53:12):
He leads the team in home runs, he leads the team by a wide
margin, and stolen bases. Healready got forty three stolen bases. The
average is just under two fifty.I get it. But he's got six
triples, he's got sixteen doubles. He does stuff on a nightly basis that
just wial you. And he alsodoes stuff that makes you want to pull
your hair out. Right, wejust talked last week, catching the pop
(53:36):
up in short center field and allowinga run to score against Saint Louis.
Those things are gonna happen. Thestrikeouts are going to happen. He's still
learning his way around all this.He leads the team. He's got ten
more strikeouts than Will Benson does.So. I know there is good and
bad, but there is so muchmore good than bad with Ellie de la
Cruz, and very in my opinion, Austin, very well deserving of the
(54:00):
All Star nod. Yeah, absolutely, I'm right there with you. I
mean, he leads the league intriples, leads the league in stolen bases.
Defensively, he has certainly gotten betterthan how he did at the beginning
of the year. You mentioned he'shitting two forty seven. Well, that's
comfortably above league average right now, almost by ten points. And he's been
(54:21):
able to hit the ball from theright side of the plate, from the
left side of the plate. He'sdone a lot of great stuff. I
think personally, I think Hunter Greenis deserving of the All Star nod.
Yes, I think that there probablyshould have been two Reds and it should
have been Hunter and Ellie. Soyeah, but not to take away from
Ellie whatsoever. He deserves it.He's the Red's best player and he's been
(54:42):
fantastic this year. My issue isthat Paul Skeins got in over Hunter Green.
Hunter Green has a three point twoWAR compared to Paul Skeen's two point
six. Yeah, Paul Skein's pitchedin ten games this year. Hunter Green
has pitched in eighteen one hundred andfour innings. Skeens does have a really
good RA of two points one.Uh, but Hunter's got a legitimate sit
a three point four to five ERA. He's got one hundred and sixteen strikeouts
(55:07):
on the season. I felt like, you know, comparing those two,
Hunter Green's been more valuable and alittle bit of a better player than Paul
Skins. But yeah, Ellie dala Cruz absolutely deserves to be an All
Star. You mentioned Austin two fortyseven, well above the average. Codify
tweeted this out and Lance mccalishre retweetedit yesterday. Have you seen the statistic
(55:27):
currently in Major League Baseball MLB teamshitting at least two sixty? Did you
see this that? So you goback to two thousand. At this point
in the year, twenty four baseballteams were hitting two sixty or better nineteen
ninety nine to twenty five of themdid it this year? You want to
guess how many teams are hitting overtwo sixty zero two two teams. I
(55:51):
mean teams did it in twenty twentythree, two twenty twenty two. Just
one team in Major League Baseball hitat least two sixty. It's a different
game. And we get so enamoredand so caught up with the batting average,
and I get it, But showme teams that are doing it right
now. The Astros and the Padresare the only two teams in Major League
(56:14):
Baseball hitting above two sixty. Thoseteams are in second place, and they're
correct. It doesn't always correlate. Now here's the problem with the Reds Austin.
They strike out an amazing clip. They they do not they in my
they don't compete at the plate. No, not nearly enough. They've struck
out eight hundred and fourteen times thisyear. You know, it's even more
(56:35):
disturbing. They're on pace for justseventy seven home runs at Great American Ballpark.
That'd be tied for the lowest everin the ballpark. So they're striking
out a bunch. But if theystill have the power numbers, what do
you say, what's a give andtake? They're striking out a ton.
Their team batting average stinks. Ibelieve they're still hitting as a team,
(56:57):
what two twenty five and they're nothitting the ball out of the ballpark.
That is a recipe for complete andutter disaster in Major League Baseball. They
have eight hundred and fourteen strikeouts sofar this season as a team. I
don't know how much that really correlatesto offensive success. I mean, the
(57:19):
Pirates have more, and they're alot better offensively than the Reds. The
Boston Red Sox have more, they'rea lot better offensively than the Reds.
The Seattle Mariners lead their division andthey have nine hundred and fifty strikeouts.
They are one of the worst offensiveteams in baseball, but they get away
with it because their pitching is sogood. Yes, but Mariners also have
hit one hundred home runs, youknow. The Pittsburgh Pirates have hit you
know, ninety. Those teams havehad more power hitting than the Cincinnati Reds.
(57:45):
So you just can't be bad atall of it. And the Reds
are yeah, offensively. I thinkthat's a good point, you know.
I think you look at the walksas well. They have only got two
hundred and seventy six walks, whichis right in the middle of the pack
in Major League Baseball. Some ofthe best teams in baseball have well over
three hundred. So one of mybig takeaways from this season as a whole,
(58:06):
and you said it as well,is that you don't really think they
put together good at bats. Youdon't think they're competitive at the plate.
I think there is some sort oforganizational flaw in the approach at the plate,
whether that is how they are taughtcoming up, whether that's how they
are going about things from a scoutingperspective and pregame meetings and plans that they
go over with each pitcher. Somethingthere to me is fatally flawed in their
(58:31):
approach. And I think the pointabout the ballpark is interesting because I think
maybe that the team and the ideaof the team is built with the thought
of, well, we play ina small ballpark, so those home runs
are going to come, whereas theyseem better built to play in a bigger
ballpark. They're better on the road. They are a much better team on
(58:52):
the road this year, yep, than they are at home. And so
that makes me wonder can Nick Crawland the base all ops people then change
their changed something about the way thatthey build the team in the future to
get more power bats in the lineup, because clearly it's not working at home,
and there's no excuse for that. You play eighty one games a year
(59:15):
there it Uh, it's remarkable andto the point we just made you just
can't be bad at all those categoriesand the Reds are right. Tells me
something's wrong. I said this yesterday. You know you are you are going
to sometimes face pitchers that are justdominant. Pitchers get paid a lot of
money too. What can you doagainst a pitcher like yesterday though, to
(59:37):
help yourself work the at bats?Okay, like again, don't let him
go a six pitch first inning whenit's hot outside. Make him work because
he might throw six scoreless innings. But guess what, maybe he's at one
hundred pitches and he doesn't go outthere in the seventh and then you get
to the bullpen. You have gotto show the ability to battle against good
(01:00:00):
pitchers in baseball, and battling doesn'talways mean you just score a bunch of
runs against them. Battling means youmake that pitcher work and you get him
out of the game. Earlier,Jeff Brantley said this yesterday that the Reds
need to do a better job offouling pitches off. Other teams do it,
Other teams do it really well.Shorten up the stance, choke up
on the bat, and just putthe ball in play, make contact.
(01:00:22):
Red are not doing that. Letme tell you one other thing the Reds
are not doing Austin. The Redsare not being listed as a team who's
executives in the front office have themost at stake in twenty twenty four.
You can take something out of thisor not. Jeff Passing did this today.
He essentially talked about the executives withthe most riding on this deadline from
(01:00:47):
either a good or a bad standpoint. Brian Cashman of the Yankees, Ross
Atkins of the Blue Jays, ChrisGets to the White Sox, Jerry Dipoto
of the Seattle Mariners, Dave Dombrowskiof the Philadelphia Phillies, Peter Bendix of
the Marlins, JJ Piccolo of theKansas City Royals, Chris Breslo of the
Boston Red Sox, Eric Neander ofthe Tampa Bay Race Guardians are up there.
(01:01:13):
Honorable mention Mets, Padres, Brewers, Braves, Chicago Cubs, San
Francisco Giants. That's essentially half theteams, if not more, in Major
League Baseball. Austin and On.Nowhere in this list, because these teams
are either what they're going for itor they're selling. Nowhere on this list
is Nick Crawl and the Cincinnati Reds. Is that a problem in your opinion?
(01:01:37):
I would say, I bet ifyou asked Jeff Passon he would say
it's too early for them to feelthe pressure. Because I think most people
would say last year they were aheadof schedule. This year they were hurting.
You want to be on this list? Yeah, you do. And
most of those teams that you mentionedhave either won World Series or appeared in
the World Series over the last tenyears. I mean Hell, Tampa,
(01:01:59):
Kansas City, Boston Cubs, theCubs, those teams are competing for World
championships. Because because of that, the pressure is different when you don't accomplish
anything. There's no pressure from anational From a national standpoint, the Reds
are not thought of as a seriousorganization because they have sucked for thirty years,
(01:02:22):
correct, And that part drive Andhere's how I look at it.
And I know we should. Weshould have spent a lot more time talking
about FC Cincinnati, and we'll getto them. But I've said this.
I said it yesterday on Extra Innings, I said it earlier today on Scott
Sloan. The Bengals moved on fromMarvin Lewis, and they fundamentally changed the
way their organization works when they hiredZach Taylor. And then they got a
(01:02:45):
generational talent in Joe Burrow that forcedthem into even more uncomfortable, difficult change.
And what did that lead to?They won a playoff game, they
went to a Super Bowl, andall of a sudden became a relevant and
a f franchise because they pivoted fromwhat was not working and built around a
great player. FC Cincinnati meteoric risefrom the USL to Major League Soccer.
(01:03:09):
They got there and then they wereembarrassed. And what happened. Jeff Birding
said, Hey, I'm gonna letsoccer people do the soccer stuff, will
run the business side of this. And what happened. They fundamentally changed the
way that they run their organization andit resulted in winning. They built around
a great player in Luciano Acosta andothers, have went to an Eastern Conference
(01:03:30):
championship, have won a Supporter Shield, and are now one of the most
relevant and best teams in Major LeagueSoccer. The Reds have done the same
stuff for the last thirty years. They failed to build around Ken Griffey Junior,
they failed to build around Joey Vado, and if they're not careful,
they're going to fail to build aroundEllie de la Cruz. Yeah, because
(01:03:51):
they have that type of La Cruzbecause exactly because I have not seen them
do it in my lifetime. Whyshould I believe that anybody up there is
capable of actually turning that franchise isinto a winner. I have no reason
to believe it. And that's thefrustrating part, and that's the worrisome part.
And for some reason, they geta pass. They get a pass
(01:04:12):
because oh the big Red machine hadthe wire and wire to reds. Well
that's what I'm saying. They don'tget a pass from noon to three every
day. They don't get a passfrom noon to three. But like,
the only time I ever heard peopleactually get pissed off is when Phil Castellini
said, where are you gonna go? Other than that, people have always
kind of given them a pass becausethey've won five world championships. Well,
I think there should be pressure withinthe organization to uphold the legacy of a
(01:04:36):
historic franchise and win as much aspossible. Those franchises. You just name
the Yankees the Red Sox. Youknow how much it drives Yankees fans crazy.
They have won a title in almosttwenty years now, yep, because
they have a legacy to uphold. The Boston Red Sox have now turned that
into an organization where a championship isthe expectation. The Atlanta Braves for years
(01:04:59):
now one of the top flight franchisesin Major League Baseball. Those things that
history and those franchises, yep, drive them to be the best they can
be. And that's not here withthe Reds. And the Reds are not
doing that in a franchise that deservesa lot better than what it's been,
in a fan base that sure ashell deserves a lot better the fan base
for sure. And now here's thedifference. Now they're in a city where
(01:05:24):
the other two professional teams are doingthat, and it makes you look even
worse. That's the problem. FC Cincinnati is doing it, the Bengals
are doing it, and you're stillsitting by doing the same stuff you've done
and just resting on the nineteen ninetywild old Wire team that's on the big
Red machine instead of saying, youknow what, the other two teams here
(01:05:45):
have figured it out, maybe weneed to figure it out, all right,
your talkbacks the Monday edition when weget back since and you made a
good point, Austin, what weshould have been doing is celebrating what f
C Cincinnati did this weekend, andwe will. We'll spend time on FC
Cincinnati. We'll spend more time onthe Cincinnati Bengals after your talkback. Cincy

Please keep it clean and don't bemean. Add a sprinkle, sprinkled

(01:06:55):
try not to Saba Taja. Allright, the Monday edition. Let's go
Tony. Do you think it waswise for King a Gun to fire his
hand on o'high tower and replace himwith Sir Kristen Cole? What are we
doing? No a toornishmen? Lookdragon seeds like you and he gotta stick
together. Tony, I've got afeeling they'll be coming for us soon because
(01:07:15):
we are not high born like thesetargarian bastards. We're just small folks.
We live in the shadows, tryingto get by while these inbreds waited this
unwinnable war against each other. Remember, Tony, there's no war more insulting
to the gods than the war betweenken agreed dries, me nuts, whatever
that means. How's the dragon manwatching the Reds? Clap your hands if
(01:07:36):
you're tired of watching the Reds.Clap your hands if you're tired of being
the president who's the only voice ofreason telling top backers to stop watching the
Reds? Got your head bow,Folks. Training camp is in twelve days.
Are report twelve days to when therookies report. Stop watching the Crimson
baseball team, Tony Austin, Ineed to move out of the Oval office.
(01:07:58):
I'm getting tired. Whoever used tobe is not entitled to my bar
I have in there. I gotmove. It's grag. On June twenty
third, the Reds start Lodola witha blister. Yes, dumb move in
the postgame press or Bell told CharlieGoldsmith he will not miss the start.
(01:08:20):
He'll be out there in five days. As of today, Lodola has missed
three starts and we're still counting, doctor Bell. That's a good point.
I don't even think about that.Yep. I will say this fact.
Even picture the blisters is beyond me. Now. Now, I'll say this
because you said Lodolo isca. I'mlooking on ESPN and I know it goes
(01:08:42):
by different accounts. ESPN from nowuntil the break lists this in this order
for the reds Abbot Montas, Spires, Green Ashcraft Abbot Montas. Yeah,
as the seven starters. Now,if Lodolo can start that game for Spires
or anyone else, great. OnESPN dot com it does not list Lodola
yet. Yeah. So tomorrow isthe fifteen day mark. We've seen this
(01:09:08):
before. Actually, yeah, tomorrowis the fifteen day mark. Uh.
Last time David talked about Lodolo,he said he's scheduled to come off on
time. So take that for whatyou will. If we literally just heard
Greg make that same point that we'llbelieve it when you see it, I
would anticipate that he will coming.I don't know. I saw one.
(01:09:30):
I saw a video of that onevideo. I'm just waiting for some kids
to pick it up and take itsomewhere or spray painted or something. Right,
it is what's gonna happen to you. I guess I'll just sit home
and play video games. Maybe I'llbe going out to repare the robots.
(01:09:55):
College football what well, that wasn'tvery you see, our limousine pulled up
to the red light and I wasgoing to leave a talkback, but my
driver got interrupted by the car nextto him and they started a conversation while
I was trying to leave my talkback. But it was actually kind of entertaining,
so I I said it on inanyway, double Dipper, Gipper,
(01:10:17):
Thank you, mister p hey Ton, Hey Audie, Kevin in ort to
Kentucky here hope you and everybody hadit fantastic Forward July Weekend. Man,
you guys have mentioned low management June, so I said, low management is
a lie. But if you're MikeGreenberger, apparently you have a low man
here when it comes to your radioshow. Anyways, season this year,
(01:10:40):
we're back. The season's over.We're back. The season's over. We're
back. This season's over. We'reback. This season's over. Mages Sin
have a great day. Indeed, yes, there've been a long time since
Mike Greenberg's appeared on his own radioshow Crazy. If you're feeling dread because
you're wearing red, oh you betterswitch to the orange and blue because it's
(01:11:04):
the only team in Cincinnati that's playingtrue. Wow, beautifully done, Jim
Wow poet and he didn't know it. Hey, guys, Jeff and Ner
Richmond, Happy Monday, Austin, great job yesterday on extra innings. You
hit on every single point that I'vebeen thinking for months. They need new
(01:11:28):
ownership, they need a new direction, or if they're not going to sell
the team, they need to bringsomeone in here that knows what they're doing.
So this window does not close withoutanything to show for it. I
agree. Do you know, Austin, if you combine orange and blue together,
you get the color burnt sienna, which is like a burnt red color.
(01:11:51):
So there you go. Thank God. The Redstones stand on business.
They should be. Oh that's tough. Chake's performance, reds Chaake's performance.
You gotta think you've got to benervous if you're the Cincinnati reds and God
(01:12:13):
is now going against you. Yeah, what the most high is calling you
out? Yeah, hey guys, happy Monday, and I hope you had
a nice fourth Let's tall back mattersguy. I basically just wanted to touch
base. I'm probably gonna get scaledit from you guys and maybe some of
the callers. We don't do that. But quite honestly, I don't think
Cruz should be an All Star. His feeling fielding is terrible and he strikes
(01:12:38):
out way too much. I knowhe's going to be an All Star,
but I think Jonathan India should havebeen the pick. If anybody your thoughts,
please, I think you are completelyand utterly wrong. Hello. This
is this former president Ronaldrigan and waleas my friend Chucky Dickens once route.
It was the best of times,it was the worst of times. And
(01:12:59):
I'm not sure what was more impressivethe red sweep of the mighty Yankees and
Yankee Stadium or following that up bygetting swept at home by the lowly Tigers.
Man, I don't know you guys, ken from the lex here,
I figured out how to use this. iHeart app as far as Coach cow
(01:13:19):
is concerned, I don't care abouthim and his ex players. Mark Pope
is all about the name on thefront of the jersey and off the one
on the back, So he's myguy. Coach. Cow's house sold for
three point four million, Mark Popebought one for four point seven million,
(01:13:40):
so I won't be driving by hishouse. Man talking about the free agent
acquisitions of the pitching and how theydropped off. Maybe think about our pitchers
from last year. What are theyup to now? Is it just our
system? Is it our pitching coach? Here's some examples. Ben Lively five
point three eight e r A withUS three point one e r elsewhere,
(01:14:00):
point eight seven and two point sixtyfive for Luke Weaver in New York.
Kevin Herget remember him? I suredon't. Five point eight one e r
A here two point eight elsewhere? What are we doing? Yep, that's
a great point, Kevin, greatquestion. I think the Brewers just brought
up Joel Koonell to the big leaguesas well. Remember him? Uh?
I thought the Reds should have keptbeen Lively around, but they didn't.
(01:14:23):
He's been fantastic for Cleveland. LukeWeaver has been really good for the Yankees.
Yeah, I don't know how toexplain that sincey thirty sixty Cincy thirty
sixty pct sent up twenty five percent. Go there you go. Instead of
worrying about the miserable Reds, I'mgonna give a shout out to the first
place and top of the table.FC Cincinnati took kids down in the game
(01:14:47):
on Saturday. Never had an experiencelike that. Six to one, most
games ever in a match, tiedfor the highs in the franchise history.
And that you need, Messy chancefrom the Bailey, top notch. Just
kiss shout out to the Bailey.Bailey is awesome, man, Tony.
You know, pointing out Parker Mettow'spoint, oh eight nine batting average doesn't
(01:15:10):
matter isn't fair. You don't wantall the batting average doesn't matter? Nutcases
coming. You know, in theirworld you can hit one twenty seven and
still be a great hitter, eventhough every single great player in baseball historically
has a good batting average. Soexplain that it's about it's all the other
analytics. Still, it's a goodpoint. It's all the other analytics.
(01:15:33):
Hey, guys, Marco from thegrove, Marcus, no more dwelling on
what happened with the Reds of theweekend. But I'm not sure if you
guys heard, but you guys hearabout something Peta was involved on the west
side of Cincinnati on Saturday, somethingabout a mistreat of a mule. That's
kind of interesting, Oh, Marcus, that's I can confirm that report is
(01:15:57):
that FC Cincinnati beat my have melike a Grand Canyon. Wow. Hello,
Tony and Audi. Lifelong Reds fan. Hello. Been to the nineteen
seventy five World Series against the RightsRed Sox and have been rooting ever since.
This team is nothing but a tease. That's the word or of the
(01:16:17):
day is teas and you've hit iton the head with all the expletives.
It's just really frustrating to watch. And I'll do just like I did in
high school and walk away from theteaser. Yes, loveling. I hope
you guys had a nice weekend.FC Cincinnati did, my goodness, six
(01:16:39):
goals and against the leaders of thesupporter shield thus far, that was very
impressive. I don't care if theydon't have a Messy or Suarez their main
guys. We don't have Miosga Andyou can make an argument he's just as
important to our team. Maybe not, but if he's as important as Messy,
but it's up there. Hey,how about Austin Slater, Who's gonna
fit right in? That's two hundredno pop yep, like a glove.
(01:17:03):
Hi, Tony and Austin. HappyMonday. I hope you had a great
fourth You know, this is myfourth attempt at leaving a talkback today because
I wanted to talk about the Reds, but it's just so hard. I
almost start vombiting right when I startspeaking about them. But everything you said
today, oh my gosh, youwere pointing on on everything on the Reds,
(01:17:24):
the whole nine yards. I'm overit. Bring on the Bengals,
something uplifting. Food day, guys, have a great week. Fo day.
Hey, Mike Candell high here justkind of counterbalance in life with the
s C Cincinnati winn and the Redsloss and just being grateful for the good
(01:17:45):
And I was just wondering, God, if instead of calling in and poo
pooing, could you please, youknow, give the Reds a little hand,
like maybe the influence that to giveus a couple more strikes and maybe
just blow that ball over the fence. When Ellie hits one long thank you
very much? Okay, maybe that'sa maybe that's where we need to look
into him. He's asking, itappears he's asking God to reach out the
(01:18:08):
hand of Christian fellowship to the RedAudie Tona's going offside of this Schools come
from the can Enterprise. Utterally disappointingweekend by our Red Legs this weekend,
not much words to say, Audie, I respectfully disagree Paul Skins should have
been an All Star over Hunter GreenConsistency? Was there e r A and
(01:18:30):
ten stars? Is there ten gamesand you get to watch him potentially start
against Gunner Henderson, So Soto andJudge sign me up. I'll be at
the game, eating these cheap ticketsup. Let's go. Okay, Okay,
maybe maybe he doesn't deserve to bein over Skeens, but I still
thought he deserved to be in.By the way, friend of the show
made the All Star team. Ohdid you see who it was? Jeff
(01:18:51):
Hoffman? All right, Jeff, there's another Reds pitcher that has gone on
to better things, unbelieved Jeff Hoffmanwho joined our show what in the summer
of twenty one unbelievable. If that'snot if I'm not mistaken. The summer
of twenty one, he came onthe show with us and he is now
an all star with the Philadelphia Philliesas a reliever. He's had a great
(01:19:14):
season. Cinty three to sixty effect. Yeah, that's what people are saying.
So that's our last talk back ofthe day. Well done, Let's
take a break, let's come back, and let's set the stage for we
got going on the rest of theshow. Also, in doing so,
to remind you what's going on atCincy Shirts all this week between now and

(01:20:57):
Sunday. Thanks to Cinty Shirts forall they do here esecially an hour number
two of since he three sixty,uh FC, oh, FC Cincinnati wheels
are falling off over here, ton, My approach statement made FC Cincinnati to
uh I believe no surprise to manyjumps from six to number two in the
(01:21:20):
MLS Power rankings. I don't knowhow LAFC is still ahead of them,
but what FC Cincinnati did over theweekend, this will this will also lead
to a conversation. We're going tohave an hour number three about the most
impressive Cincinnati sports wins because the buildup was there with this inner Miami game.
(01:21:42):
And I know that Messi was notthere for Miami, and I know
f C Cincinnati is missing a slewof players, but not just to beat
inner Miami, who now has playedone more game than f C Cincinnati.
But f C Cincinnati holds a onepoint lead over Myami. They have forty
eight points this FC Cincinnati and therace for the Supporter Shield enter Miami forty
(01:22:04):
seven. The next closest is LAFCat forty three. It was I believe
the term they use in soccer Austinis masterclass, an absolute master class,
yes, put on by FC Cincinnati. The stars came out. Kubo had
(01:22:25):
two goals, Luciano Acosta had agoal and a couple assists. It was,
from start to finish, one ofthe most satisfying sport events I've watched
in a long time. From aCincinnati sports fan, I don't know how
else you could put it six toone that doesn't happen in the MLS,
(01:22:46):
let alone in what is kind ofbeing marked as one of the games to
watch in the MLS because it's atwo top point scorers in all of MLS
coming together, and I I don'tknow what else you could say, besides
masterclass, and you do it inthe setting where the build up was there.
(01:23:08):
And that's what we're going to talkabout at the start of our number
two times that the build up hasmatched what the team delivered for Cincinnati Sports.
And we'll make a list and youcould leave us a tweet Tony underscore
Pike fifteen, adaldielmore, let usknow your thoughts. Win. The build
up for a Cincinnati Sports moment wasmatched with a result by the Cincinnati Sports
(01:23:30):
team the way f C Cincinnati didit on Saturday night, six to' one
over Inner Miami. Here is alittle bit of head coach Pat Noonan after
the match in the victory. Greatperformance. Guys stepped up tonight and we
got contributions across the board, certainlywith the goals. I think it was
(01:23:55):
five different goal scorers, and defensively, I think a lot of guys perform
well outside of it. Maybe aten minute stretch in the first half.
It was as complete a performance aswe've had. And so to end the
week this way against a very strongMiami team, I'm really happy for our
guys. Did you see domination likethis coming? No, they're too good
(01:24:21):
to expect that. So there's nightslike this happened, you know, for
various reasons. But I think theguys were clearly up for it. But
it wasn't just about being up forit and working hard. You still have
to make plays, and a lotof guys did that. Is it possible
(01:24:43):
for you to pick out one standoutplayer from a match like that? You're
gonna ask me if I how Icould be negative about the performance? Could
you be negative? I probably could, But we're not going to guys are
outstanding? Man. Uh, that'sgonna be hard because I think, you
know, Luca in that position tonight, having not played there consistently. You
(01:25:11):
know, of course, in thein the run of play in different structures,
he's going to find himself in thosespots. But to start the game
that way and the impact he had, I thought he was outstanding. Lucho's
Luco's Luco, So expect that. Now every everybody was just really strong tonight.
Miles again in the back, Ithink he has a really good,
(01:25:33):
uh way of leading the line inthe moment. I think both games he's
his composure, recognition of you know, Campanna coming off the line, the
tackles that he made plays that hebroke up, how he moved the ball
for us. I just thought hehad a really good presence in there.
You know, maybe he wasn't inall the highlights, but I still think
(01:25:58):
it was so important to the performance. Of course, he gets the goals,
but I just thought he did areally good job of threatening the back
line tonight with some of his runs. The midfielders are strong again very quickly.
You can imagine and understand Miami beingfrustrated for a number of reasons tonight.
(01:26:23):
I saw Tata having a kind ofa spirited back and forth. Looked
spirited to me. Anyway. WithLuco, did you get any indication that
anything about tonight rubbed them the wrongway? I think it was to play
at the end, which Lucho Ithink, you know, tries to be
creative with the touch and at thatstage of the game. You know,
I don't blame the reaction. Ithink they had a good conversation after,
(01:26:45):
so it didn't escalate. But Idon't think they were in the wrong and
feeling that way. And Luco's that'show he plays all the time. You
just have to understand the situation ofthe game and how others might interpret or
feel about, you know, tryingto play in that way with that score
line at that stage of the game. So you know, we'll talk about
(01:27:06):
it because it's important that we knowhow to go about winning and losing and
making sure that we always respect thegame and the opponent. And I'm not
Lucho's is not that player, butit's reminders just to see out the game
in a good way. All right. So there is Pat Noonan after the
(01:27:27):
victory on Saturday night. What Ilike most about that, Austin, is
that the media now knows how alot of these post match press conferences are
going to go because Pat Noonon, even in a lot of wins, knows
there are things to improve on andkeeps that mentality, couldn't find anything wrong,
could not find a thing wrong,as I'm sure no one could.
(01:27:48):
After FC Cincinnati six to one victoryover Inner Miami on Saturday night. Now
what comes with that in in anyis the next game you have an unbelievable
performance. You now have a turnaroundwhere I believe it's Charlotte next on the
(01:28:12):
schedule, and I know that theCharlotte matches at TQL Stadium. So can
you now avoid if you're FC Cincinnati, the letdown coming off a highlight that
talked about the trap game and theyget by DC United the match before.
Can you now avoid the other sideof that? Can you avoid the letdown
after a six to one victory overthe top point score in MLS? Can
(01:28:36):
you avoid that against Charlotte FC nextSaturday. We'll talk about that in more.
This week, we'll get Tommy gback in to talk to FC Cincinnati.
But well deserved, well deserved fromFC Cincinnati. And when we get
back, let's take this win andlet's come up with a list of our
own here Austin on some of thebigger Cincinnati sports wins when the moment leading
(01:28:59):
into the game was the highest. We'll take that from you as well.

us on a Monday as we tryto set the tone for the week for
you here on since E three tosixty, we've done so with the Cincinnati
Reds. We did so with FCCincinnati. But the FC Cincinnati win Austin
brought with it something that you andI discussed briefly off air today, and
that was a fulfilling win for Cincinnatisports. That was a win that we
(01:30:55):
often I know it's it's pushing tothe past, but we so often in
this city kind of know going forwardthat the big games just aren't gonna go
They're not gonna go our way. That's the feeling I think a lot of
folks have when it comes to Cincinnatisports. And you mentioned it as one
(01:31:20):
of a top great sports performances inCINCI sports. And I'm not saying just
because they won six to one,but you went into a match with the
hype against Miami, who was leadingthe point standings in all of MLS,
and here they come into your buildingand the build up was there, and
the result matched the build up,not even match the build up. It
(01:31:44):
far exceeded what the thought can be. It was amazing to watch that,
and that is a feeling that wedon't get enough, in my opinion as
Cincinnati sports fans. And I startedto think, Okay, what are some
other games that have done that? One of them that immediately came to mind
for me was you see going toNotre Dame in football the year they made
(01:32:10):
the College Football Playoff, because itfelt like going in, you know,
there's been years past and you knowyou see at Michigan, U see at
Ohio State where it's like, man, it's cool that they're going to play
this game, but they're probably notgoing to win this game. Going into
the Notre Dame game, you thought, and there's a chance that you see
can win this game. And theydidn't even win it. They were dominant
(01:32:30):
in a lot of ways against NotreDame. At Notre Dame and the sea
of red in the stands towards theend of the game and the UC cheers
you could hear over the broadcast. It was one of the most fulfilling wins
I can remember in Cincinnati sports history. You don't have to look far,
and you don't have to look backa long way to do that with the
(01:32:54):
Cincinnati Bengals, right the wins overthe Buffalo Bills, the wins over the
Kansas City Chiefs, where you knewin that the hype was there. You
could talk about the Super Bowl run, the win against the Raiders, the
hype was there. They have nevergotten over the hump. They couldn't get
over the hump, and then theyfinally did. Those types of wins unfortunately
(01:33:14):
fall far too far and in betweenyou you just don't get it a lot
in Cincinnati. There's not a tonthat come to mind with the Cincinnati Bearcats
basketball program, most in large partdue to the the way the Crossdown shootout
has been dominated in recent years. And you could probably lean on those if
you're the Xavier Musketeers as some ofthose wins. But when you start to
(01:33:36):
look back, Austin, do anyothers come to mind for you from a
Cincinnati sports perspective that lived or evenexceeded the hype and delivered in those big
moments. I have six Bengals gamesI'll come to mind, Okay. The
first is Bengals Chiefs two thousand andthree. Kansas City was undefeated, Chad
(01:33:57):
Johnson guaranteed victory, and the Bengalsreally didn't struggle with the Chiefs that day.
Peter Warick punt return touchdown, JohnKittna deep ball to Peter Wark.
It was the Peter Warwick game andthey smoked the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs after
a week of hype. Bengals werefour and five at the time, Chiefs
were eight to zero or something alongthose lines, and Chad Johnson guaranteed victory
(01:34:19):
and the Bengals smoked him at home. So that's one for me. I
would also say Bengals Chiefs AFC Championshipgame. The satisfaction in winning that game
and being down by was it seventeenpoints at the half or where they were.
The performance itself did not match thehype of the game because that Bengals
(01:34:42):
did not play very good at thebeginning, but a comeback like that unbelievably
satisfying to do it in their building. Bengals Raiders Wild Card game. Obviously
you break the streak and Jamar Chasewas fantastic in that game. Joe Burrow
was really good in that game, and you knew it would come down to
the very end and you were readyto have your heart broken again with Derek
(01:35:06):
Carr inside the red zone and JermainePratt author's a moment, yep, unbelievably
satisfactory, satisfying. I should sayBengals Bills AFC Divisional Round, first time
seeing each other after DeMar Hamlin. The Bengals embarrassed him in the middle of
the snow at home. It wasn'teven close. Cam Taylor Britt sealed that
(01:35:29):
game with an interception, and Ithink Moe and I had Cam Taylor Britt
eighty to one to have an interception, So that was fantastic. I'm gonna
say this even though it really doesn'tcount, but the first drive of Bengals
Bills Monday Night Football before demor Hamlin, man, you thought were gonna beat
them by fifty I mean, JoeBurrow was locked in and that stadium was
(01:35:51):
an unbelievable That wasn't everyone in thegame that would have beat the Bengals that
night, no chance, There wasno chance. And then Bengals Raiders twenty
twelve when Carson Palmer came back forthe first time and the Bengals beat him
by twenty four points, and GenoAtkins, I remember sacks Carson Palmer in
(01:36:12):
the place just absolutely loses its mind. I think that was a game that
had a lot of hype and theBengals smoked them. So yeah, those
are mine. So here's the thing. I cannot think of a single reds
the thing in which there was aton of hype and the Reds did something
you know, incredible to win,or they dominated a game or anything like
(01:36:33):
that. So that was where Iwould go to next with it, And
I get it can be different inbaseball. It's a longer season. The
individual games may not matter as much. Soccer's a big season. Soccer's a
long season. And you circled thatmatch against Inter Miami and it delivered for
every reason that you just mentioned. Those games that you mentioned and I mentioned
(01:36:54):
for the Cincinnati Bengals, they werecircled for a reason and the Bengals delivered.
Xavior has done that more than yousee in basketball in recent years.
The conversation in this, in myopinion, goes back to what you said
about the Reds earlier. FC Cincinnatihas figured it out. They've got a
generational talent in Lucian Arcosta, buildaround him, go all in. The
(01:37:15):
Bengals have done the same thing withJoe Burrow and the move they made to
bring in Zach Taylor and relieve MarvinLewis. Here's this great generational talent with
La Da la Cruz, but it'snot like he's the only talent that this
Red's roster has had in recent years. Unfortunately, games that have had hype
for the Cincinnati Reds would include whatgoing up two zero on the San Francisco
(01:37:38):
Giants and losing three straight at home, the Roy Holliday no hitter, any
playoff appearance, any Wildcard appearance, the Johnny Quato game Austin. You mentioned
earlier, the Johnny Cuato game inPittsburgh where you could feel as soon as
he dropped that ball it was justnot going to be. Well. I'll
go back to watching. One ofthe first recollect I have at a Reds
(01:38:01):
game was watching what Al Lighter andthe Mets did to the Reds in a
wild card game. Yeah. Anyany game in my memory for the Cincinnati
Reds that has carried that type ofbuild up going in has won against the
Reds, and that is exhausting asa Reds fan. Yeah, I mean,
I guess you could say. Iguess I would say if I would
(01:38:24):
add one one moment for the Redsand it really doesn't count that much,
but Todd Fraser winning the home runderby, that was one and something that
didn't even have that that season, there was so much hype around the All
Star Game. Understandably so. Butlike if you think about it's never the
results that the actual team. Youknow, it's like the Reds franchise four.
(01:38:45):
They allowed Pete Rose to go onthe field and that was like the
biggest deal ever. And then ToddFraser won the home run Derby. Yep,
it's never Oh, the Reds wonthis this highly anticipated matchup. Yep,
it's the derby, or it's whatwe let's go back to nineteen ninety,
how about the big Red Machine. It's just it's exhausting on that level
(01:39:06):
when you talk about that with theCincinnati Reds. But tell us where we're
wrong, tell us, you know, without I would say there's probably one
Reds. I mean this I wasn'taround for it, right, And that's
what I'm talking about. What whatwhat you or I are are? Yeah?
Can can recall what was it livingup to the hype Johnny bench Knight
(01:39:28):
his last home game where he hita home run. That that's probably one
that Red's fans would remember as agame that met the hype outside of obviously
the World Series games. I mean, it's hard to be more satisfied than
with sweeping the World Series. Butagain that's seventy six and that's nineteen ninety.
(01:39:49):
What have you done in today's worldof social media, where we can
play up so much more about thegame and lead into it. Where else
is there? Yeah? I meaneven if you think to FC Cincinnati last
year, you marched through the supportershield, you march through the playoffs,
and you're beating Columbus at home inthe Eastern Conference Finals and you lose like
(01:40:10):
you've've been taught that that's what's goingto happen. And they obviously get a
very very satisfying win last night orSaturday night. But yeah, yeah,
I just as a even the Redsfield a dreams game a couple of years
ago, Yeah was an embarrassment.Yep, I shouldn't say embarrassment, but
they barely did anything. As aas a Cincinnati sports fan, we are
(01:40:35):
conditioned, whether you like it ornot, for more of the results that
the Reds have given us in recentyears. And you could go back outside
of the last couple of years. You were kind of conditioned that way for
Wad Austin every primetime Bengals game, you just had the thought of, here
comes a big primetime game, andwe kind of know what the Bengals are
going to do now. That hasshifted organizationally, that has shifted, and
(01:40:59):
a lot of that shifted with theculture, and a lot of that shifted
with Zach Taylor, and obviously aton is shifted with Joe Burrow, and
it shifted. You mentioned earlier fC Cincinnati year one in the MLS were
embarrassed. Embarrassed and what did theydo? All Right, this didn't work
the way we did it did notwork. Did they sit and say,
(01:41:19):
Okay, let's see if it'll workthe next two or three years. No,
they said, it's clearly not working. Let's move on and find something
that does, or at least let'stry to find a different avenue out there
that does work, because what we'redoing now doesn't. I got one Reds
game that I can think of justcame to mind. Okay, you ready
for this? Yes, September twentythird, twenty twenty at home against the
(01:41:43):
Milwaukee Brewers, one of the biggestgames of the year. They had to
have to stay alive in the playoffrace, and Trevor Bauer went eight innings,
struck out twelve, allowed four hitsand one earned run. That was
probably his signature moment. His eRA was one point seventy three. I
think that performance kind of sealed thecy Young for him. And I remember
(01:42:05):
he gets a hit last strack outof the game and he screams coming off
the mound. Big game. Redsneeded it. Trevor Bauer delivered, thankfully.
He got the eighth inning. That'sthe he only threw one hundred and
four through eight, but that's onethat comes to mind for me. Yeah,
but that that I mean, Ihad to search for that. I
(01:42:26):
say, that's the thing. Ihad to move some cobwebs around to find
that game, and we could comeup with that list for other for FC
Cincinnati, for the Bengals, forthe Bearcats, for the for Xavior rather
quickly. You got to do alot of searching to find that for the
Cincinnati Reds. Plenty more on thatwill take your tweeted submissions for yours at
Tony Underscore Pike fifteen at Autielmore whenwe come back. I know that training
(01:42:49):
camp is not here yet, butwe can't start the show with the Boys
a Fall and not talk some football. Joe Burrow talked football today with the
pardon my take, guys, We'llhear some of Joe Burrow from today and
a couple other Bengals related topics wecan get to between now and three o'clock
before we get to Moegar for quickhits and locks of the night. Austin
(01:43:12):
mo already prepped me most of He'sgot a list that he wants to get
through for quick hits today of thesegames, no, now, Moe wants
to do a list of the worstplay calls in sports. Oh okay,
I would assume contact play is atthe top of Moe's list. We'll get
to more of those around two fortyfive Bengals when we get back. Since
he three sixty thanks to Penn Stationon ESPN fifteen thirty, Loweger, We've
(01:43:36):
talked about this a lot. He'sgot what you want, like, who's
the go to guy? Gonna bethe interviews, his views and your palls.
Go to guy isn't the team's leadingschool, Loweger today at three on
ESPN fifteen thirty. Since the threesixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati's Sports station. Welcome back Cincythree to sixty. Thanks to Penn Station,
(01:44:14):
you're listening right here on ESPN fifteenthirty Cincinnati Sports Station Training camp is
getting very close for the Cincinnati Bengals, and rightfully and thankfully so. After
the Reds come off the series sweepagainst the Detroit Tigers. Now I will
say this, Austin, the Redswill try to do now what I Am
(01:44:36):
not going to get caught doing, and that's just win the next seven before
the All Star break. Because youknow the Reds right now, they are
on the season forty two and fortyeight. They're six games under five hundred.
That means if they just win sevenin a row going into the All
Star Break, they'll have a winningrecord at the All Star Break. And
(01:44:58):
they play the Colorado Rockies for fourin the Miami Marlins. So you may
be in that seat today. I'mnot what the Reds did this weekend.
I'm done doing that. I'm donesaying well, it's a thirteen game stretch,
a seven game stretch. It justmakes me look stupid. Got a
couple of submissions here for memorable Redsvictories, oh matching the hype okay to
(01:45:23):
their performance. Skid chimes in skidFrisbee, not skid mark Steve all Right.
When the Reds won their tenth ina row, forcing Marty Brenneman to
shave his head. It's a prettygood one. Yes, it's a memorable
one. Agreed September twenty ninth. This one comes from Matt Delaney September twenty
ninth, twenty ten. Jay Bruce'swalk off to clench the division. Stadium
(01:45:46):
was buzzing all night. That's true. They needed a win to clench the
division and they won it in themost dramatic style. I'll give you that
one. I'll go one more.We didn't know what was going to happen,
but the Reds had won however manygames. It was in a row
last year and the first game ofthe Braves series when they came to Town
(01:46:12):
City Connect, Ellie hits for thecycle. Yep, that one place was
buzzing. The anticipation for that seriesbecause the way the Reds had been playing
and being a City Connect Friday, the Braves were. Yeah, who the
Braves were? Who the Braves are? Ellie hitting for the cycle. That's
a pretty good one. I'll giveyou that for sure. That's one of
the most And I think we hadthis conversation what a month ago, the
(01:46:33):
most memorable Reds game in my lifetimeprobably is that mo I talked to him
over the break. He said, twenty twenty one, right before the break,
the Reds go to Milwaukee and takethree or four. He said that
series had to build up. Hesaid, the unfortunate thing is how bad
the Reds were after the All Starbreak, but at least for that moment
capitalizing winning three three out of fouragainst the Brewers. Ronald tweeted at me
(01:46:58):
versus Memphis State and the lead eightwhere Nick van Exel and Penny Hardaway was
that big matchup. You see dominatedone by thirty one, but there was
that lead in and of course thatbrings up when you see always plays Memphis.
How many times that year that thatyou see beat Memphis in a calendar
year. He also said the Bengalsputting up fifty against Dallas after they offended
(01:47:19):
Tim crumbrae in the build up andTim crumb I went off that day.
Okay, So love the submissions.Keep them coming. By the way,
one other baseball nugget, Bobby WittJunior Austin, Yes, is going to
appear in the home run Derby.Yeah, there's still four more participants waiting
to be announced. We know PeteAlonzo, Alec Baum, mcgunner, Henderson
(01:47:39):
and now Bobby Witt junior or juniorfor the Royals is going to be participating.
Is it Is it too late forAustin Slater to enter the conversation.
I believe it is for the homerun derby. Yeah, I believe it
is, all right, Just thoughtI would ask how exciting for I can't
(01:48:00):
wait to see all the shots ofDavid Bell watching those homers season with the
National League staff. Tonight, RyanFeltner for the Colorado Rockies. He's got
a five six OERA and he's oneand seven on the year. He got
smoked by the Reds on June third, gear Lord runs. He was annihilated
by the Reds in Colorado. Soyou're saying he goes seven tonight, spends
it. Probably Andrew Rabbit will opposehim for the Cincinnati Reds, all right,
(01:48:24):
from a Bengal standpoint, pardon mytake. The fellows at Barstool sat
down with Joe Burrow, and weknow this from football season. It's a
big deal around here, rightfully,So when Joe Burrow speaks, and he
had a lot to talk about,so much so that we'll kind of break
this down into a couple of days. But some audio clips we have for
today, let's just kind of gothrough these, Austin, I believe what
(01:48:44):
we have. First, there isthis claim out here by a lot of
Ohio State fans that they claim, probably even you, Austin, claimed Joe
Burrow as a Buckeye. Yeah.He was actually asked about this, right,
and he has just been asked aboutit many times. Yeah, but
this is the latest ask from abardon my take? What would you say
to Ohio State fans that try toclaim you I didn't play football there.
(01:49:09):
I mean I practiced football there.I did a lot of practice. I
did a lot of practicing and lifting. You graduated, I graduated, I
I would say. I usually tellpeople that I went to school at Ohio
State and I played football at LS. I got a lot better from practicing
at Ohio State, but I didn'tget to play, so I don't really
(01:49:31):
say that I played. Answer.I still have relationships there that to this
day that I care about in thatbuilding, but I didn't play there.
Yeah. LSU is your playing home? Yeah? Yeah. Do you feel
anything when when Michigan plays Ohio State? Not not as much as the LSU
rivalries. I would say, yeah, you never lost to Michigan. Right,
(01:49:55):
No, we were we were threeand oh when I was there.
Yeah, so interesting, very Internetlost to Michigan. Maybe that's what Ohio
State fans. You can't claim JoeBurrow, but you could say we never
lost with Joe burw that's true.I like that from Big Cat. I
think that's a great point. Whenyou combine Urban Meyer and Joe Burrow's record
against Michigan, it's ten and ohuh. That brings me to if we
(01:50:15):
ever get a chance to interview JoeBurrow, I would ask him, what
did you do with your gold pants? Oh? And he'd be willing to
let go. And if if it'ssomething that you're not interested in, you
know, keeping, since you didn'tplay, you practiced, would you be
willing would you be willing to donatethem to me for safe keeping? Good
point. I would love to haveJoe Burrow's gold pants. Okay, Joe
(01:50:39):
Burrow? Also, is there apoint? Are people forgetting about Joe Burrow?
Are people overlooking how good Joe Burrowreally is? Yeah? He had
this to say, so I wantto preface this. At the beginning.
They were also supposed to interview OrlandoBrown, yes, but Burrow ended up
interviewing before him. So PFT askedhim some questions that he would have asked
(01:51:00):
to Orlando Brown, and this isone of them. Orlando, Who's the
best quarterback that you've ever played for? So he's played for Lamar, Patrick,
Joe and Patrick, which is crazytime will tell. Yeah. I
love that answer. Fair answer.I like that answer. Do you think
do you think people have forgotten aboutJoe Burrow? I believe that. Yeah,
that's what happens when you get hurtthough you don't play football, people
(01:51:21):
forget about you. Yeah, whichI kind of. I like the spot
you're in right now because I feellike I love the spot. Yeah.
Like AFC, everyone's like, oh, well, you know, you know
Josh, Lamar and Patrick CJ.Strouds, Like you're forgetting one guy.
Yeah, I agree. Yeah, but again, that's part of the game.
You don't if you're not out thereand people aren't watching it, then
(01:51:43):
there's nothing to talk about. Yeah, So I'm gonna get people to talk
about something to talk about this year. Well, come on, I'm excited
about it. I feel like thespot that you were in last year must
have been tough for you because youI don't know how involved you were with
the team as you're on the sidelines, but being in that situation where you
teams play meaningful games and you justwant to be out there and you're just
like chopping at the bit unable tobe there, I feel like that has
(01:52:05):
to take a small total mentally atleast. Right, Yeah, very difficult.
But I would say, you know, this injury was different than my
previous ones because you know, itwas my wrist. So I was like
I couldn't throw and I couldn't domy job, but I could still grind
in the weight room and get allmy workouts in. And so my off
season started, you know, tento twelve weeks earlier than everybody else's,
(01:52:27):
and so I think that gives mea kind of a leg up on the
year. But definitely watching your guysgo out there and play meaningful football is
tough, all right, out ofside, out of mind, that's fair.
But I love the thought of okay, just wait and see. Yeah.
Love that from Joe Burrow. Lovethat mentality a couple more. We
have length of career and Olympics.I believe we have an audio clip from
(01:52:50):
a potential gold medal opportunity for JoeBurrow in the future twenty seventy, I
got a good ten to fifteen,I would say, Oh, left in
me? Is that? Is thatthe plan? Like fifteen years, fifteen
forty two, see how the seehow the career plays out until then.
Yeah. So I saw an interviewwith you where you said that you were
thinking about maybe trying to join theUSA flag football. We need you because
(01:53:13):
we just lost to Japan. Ohwho what the US lost to Japan?
And what in blag football today? No, it didn't. I think it
was real. It was was itreal football? It might have been real
football. So the world's catching up. So I think it was like forty
one to twenty. They kicked ourass. Yeah, so that's real.
That's real. Yeah, I thinkso. Okay, we also could use
it in handball if you want todo that. I'll stick to the football,
the football shaped, okay, becausehandball you dominate. Yeah. I
(01:53:36):
don't know the rules of handball, but it's literally I could pick it up.
It's water polo without yes, Andwe have a long feud with the
handball community because they're like you,no chance could us win like, dude,
Yes, Joe Burrow could be anawesome handball player. Yeah if if
all the best athletes just trained handballfrom when they're five exactly like what even
(01:54:00):
On and Katie and Miles Garrett playinghandball? Yeah, they actually call traveling
in handball. So Lebron maybe not, but yeah, Miles Garrett, I
feel like that, dude, todo just about any sport. I did
notice that you've got a small lookin your eye when you when you found
out that we lost to Japan,Like, I think you really want to
play. I think Olympic point,I really want to play for the Olympic
flay football team. Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be awesome like me,
(01:54:20):
Jamar justin just naming your friends,Oh yeah, me and my friends,
the friends getting together. I likethe ten to fifteen years part. That
makes me feel good. Yes,another thing that would make you feel good
the strength and size of where JoeBurrow is now compared to where he was.
(01:54:41):
He did spend a little time talkingabout where he is now from a
bigger and stronger standpoint. How muchbigger and stronger mm ten to fifteen pounds
ish? Okay, yeah, stronger, stronger. I want strong that.
Yeah, you tell me, howdo you want me to call it?
You look so strong? How manypush ups can you do? I'm done
any push ups with I risk thisyear? Okay, all right, fair
bad question by me? Squats squats, Yeah, I can squad a little
(01:55:06):
more. How much stronger do youfeel? I feel a lot stronger,
Like if you were one hundred percentstrong two years ago? What are you
now one hundred and twenty percent?Wow? That's good Joe Burrow. So
that's the headline right there. JoeBurrow feels one hundred and twenty percent strong.
There you go, it's good.Yeah, the lot has been made
of that. Austen and I do. I I like where they're at with
(01:55:27):
that because Joe Burrow has went outof his way to talk about being bigger
and stronger going into this year.Yeah. Question two I would have for
Joe Burrow if we ever got tointerview him, is how were you able
to do a normal workout routine andbuild strengths? Yeah with your wrist,
but you couldn't do things like pushups? Good point, and that's just
that's honest. A guy like myignorance of like, Okay, how did
(01:55:49):
you work around that and still buildstrength in that part of your body.
Yeah. Uh, it's something Iwould really like to know. Lastly,
for today before we get to abreak. You know, he did the
Vogue Fashion Week. The back thatit is Joe Burrow now to Hollywood.
Has Joe gotten to Hollywood? Nowthat fashion some might say I've gone Hollywood.
(01:56:15):
I went Hollywood for a week.Yeah, now it's time to walk
in. Yeah, so I thinkI'm allowed one week of Hollywood if that's
yeah. I think so. Iactually respected your answer when you said I'm
trying to get out of my comfortzone a little bit. Yeah, try
something new. It's definitely on mycomfort zone. Does that just mean that
that is in Paris, that's justwearing suits with no back. The bros
(01:56:35):
gonna be wearing backless suits, Ithink so. I think backless suits are
in so much. There's good stuffthere because we'll get to it tomorrow.
But Joe does actually talk about comingout of his shell and where that needs
to be. But some good stufffrom Joe Burrow today. We'll play more
of that tomorrow, maybe even onWednesday as well. For now, one
(01:56:56):
more break. We got a phonecall we can get to when we get
back and then moleg Or for quickhits and locks of the night. It's
since He three sixty thanks to PennStation on ESPN fifteen thirty. Hey,
if you're listening to me, welcomeback. Since he three sixty. We're
(01:57:17):
rolling along here on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, A service at
Penn Station. We just got acouple of minutes here before Mowagar joins us.
So while we have the time, let's get one more phone call in
today. Mike is calling in.What's up, Mike? Hey, Fellow's
Hey, doing good? Mike?Uh? I uh, oh gosh,
(01:57:40):
I'm sorry. I got a quickquestion for you guys. If the rest
don't make it, which don't worktoo good, well, you root for
the Indians in the playoffs. Ohthat's a good question. I will I
will not. I will not routefor Cleveland. I would. I would
be happy picking a team and rootingfor another team, but there's just too
(01:58:03):
much in the Ohio rivalry now withwhere the Browns are even, you know,
I extend that to Columbus with thecrew in FC Cincinnati, they've dominated
the Ohio Cup as well. Idon't think I could root for another Ohio
team. Yeah. No, it'snot that I don't want to root for
another Ohio team. I just hatethe city of Cleveland the people in it,
and I root for his downfall consistently. Got it, well, it's
(01:58:26):
pretty clear. The other question ishe guys have never had Joe on for
an interview? Is it's just reallyalmost impossible to get him on? And
the reason I asked is because heseems like such a humble guy that he
would want to be on a localsports talk show. I think it's twofold,
Mike. It's certainly not from tryingor wanting to. I think we
(01:58:48):
would drop the anything we're doing tohave an opportunity to sit down and talk
with Joe Burrow. A lot ofit, I think is what he's talked
about where he's just not wanted todo this, And a lot of this
runs through the Bengals or when he'smade available or for what you look at
a lot I even think today withpart of my take, he's got the
body armor stuff on Austin, sohe's obviously doing stuff with them. He's
(01:59:10):
done stuff with this foundation. Uh. It is certainly not a lack of
one on our part. It's justit's something hard to do, and I
think that goes for a lot ofNFL cities as well. To be honest,
we have not asked explicitly because we'vekind of been made under to understand
it. It's not going to happen. He has not done a single one
on one sit down interview with anylocal media since he's been the quarterback of
(01:59:33):
the Bengals outside of the day afterthe draft. So maybe that's something that
he'll do, but it's just notsomething that's been in the cards to this
point. Yeah, since I'm ignorantto your industry, I just that was
an answering question and maybe maybe somedayhe will be real cool. Yeah,
we'd love that. Yeah, that'dbe awesome. I'm down in La Jolla
(01:59:56):
now, it's just north of SanDiego, and that's where I'm going to
be for the next several months. So the fact that it was since he
three sixty appreciation Day, I'm sorry, I'm out aggressable, but I just
wanted to tell you guys personally howmuch I've appreciated you for the last un

ten years for the fun entertainment Jolie'vegiven me. Thank you so much,
Mike. Thank you for those words. Man. We appreciate that. We
appreciate you listening. Have a greatday, Mike, you too, Thanks
appreciate that for Mike. There yougo. That's that's good stuff. We
need our final break of the daywhen we get back. His name is

he embarks on his own journey fromthree to six on the Mowager Shows a

(02:01:01):
Cincinnati's sports station, it's time forSince he three sixty Quick Hits on ESPN
fifteen thirty, was looking for Mo. Can't find him. I haven't seen
him yet. I told him waitingon Mo. Moe is probably finishing up
compiling his list of things in sportsthat just drive him absolutely crazy. This
is a list that obviously started manyweeks ago when Moe's disdain for the contact
(02:01:27):
play in Major League Baseball started, and it has continued. If there's one
thing that Moe's really good at,its compiling lists at the drop of a
hat, right he can. Heis. He is the best around at
being able to compile a list outof moment's notice, and he did so
over the weekend. If you followhim on Twitter, you know what I'm
talking about. At Moeger, we'lltalk about the contact play and more Red's
(02:01:53):
Rockies first of four tonight. AllI got to do is win the next
seven and then we'll, you know, really change the way we're talking about
the Reds. Until then, theBoys of Fall will continue on the path
we're on. We'll have more fromJoe Burrow. Uh tomorrow, we can
talk about offensive line playing Cincinnati tomorrow, some building blocks for this team and
uh look at some of the toprunning backs and what that says about the
(02:02:15):
running back market in uh in MajorLeague Baseball and the rest. We'll just
continue to wait for Moeger. Yes, it always throws me off when this
thing's happened, When this happens,Yeah, I know, it's just more
than anything, it's just disrespect. You know, we go in this is
we're going to be ready for you. Yeah. It's usually the same time
every day. Yeah, Yeah,it's just just frustrating. Well, he's
(02:02:35):
Moe's in the room now, andI've kind of already set the tone for
everything else before we get uh,before we get to our list today.
The only thing I really want toknow from Mo two things. One what's
on his show today? And two, in Moe's opinion, the addition of
Austin Slater will rank where when allis said and done at the list of
(02:02:59):
acquisitions made by Cincinnati sports teams. That's not the question. Oh, that's
not the question. I'll ask thequestion that should be asked about Austin's later.
Love it coming up in the fouro'clock out? Okay, Uh?
Where does it rank right now?Well, in May, we were talking
ourselves into Mike Ford, he's nowin Japan, Mike Toyota now Korea.
Yeah, and then June, whatdo we talk ourselves into. Well,
(02:03:23):
as soon as they get into welveMarte back? Yeah, Marte's coming back
now? Wellve Marte can't throw theball. See, yes, we'll be
back, according to Barry Lark. And there's an issue, and that's throwing
mechanics. If only there was someoneon staff who used to play third base.
Yeah, crazy, go coach. And now it's Austin Slater. Yes,
uh Slater, I have a question. One of the next seven I'll
(02:03:45):
ask him. That's what's coming upon the show today. In addition,
too, I went to the soccervenue on the West End of Cincinnati on
Saturday night. Yeah, and Isaw something that made me think of watching
Joe Burrow late in the twenty twentyone season. And I saw greatness.
I saw greatness on Saturday night againsta depleted, wounded, shorthanded Miami club.
(02:04:08):
But what I saw made me thinkof Joe Burrow. I will make
that make sense. We're gonna talkabout the contact play. I'm gonna take
my Ellie Dela Cruz victory lap.But you know what the good news about
the All Star selections was for theReds. It wasn't just that Ellie Dela
Cruz is going to be an AllStar. It was something else. We'll
tell you what that is coming upat three thirty five. If he's an
(02:04:29):
All Star, what would he havebeen in Triple A down V an All
Star? I guess And your Residencesuper Bowl champion Chris Canty says Joe Burrow
has a ton of pressure on himcoming into the season. That's not the
hot take. He thinks it isokay. Joe Vanno hit a home run
as well. He did for theDJs. Let's do this mo. This
(02:04:54):
started a couple of weeks ago foryou. Yeah, the contact play has
not been very good for the Reds. I hate contact play. And I
said before you came in here thatone of your many qualities is you are
an elite list maker. You canmake a list at the drop of a
hat. Yeah, and I'm assumingthat the contact play will go somewhere near
the top of some of your mosthated plays. So it's in this mix,
(02:05:16):
okay. It's in the mix thatincludes any sacrifice bunt oh okay,
which mathematically is a bad play that'sbeen proven. Any sacrifice bunt Okay.
The shovel pass. Oh, Iknew that was coming. Shovel passes,
basic math. Let's run a guyinto all this traffic and then try to
hand him the ball with all theseother dudes right in front of him.
(02:05:36):
Yep, the shovel pass. Anypunt on fourth and second or shorter in
plus territory. Oh yeah. Soif you've got the ball at the other
team's forty six and it's fourth andtwo and you punt. You are quitting.
Bryan Day, pay attention going forone when you have just tied the
game and the closing seconds. Bengalsat Ravens two thousand and four, team
(02:06:00):
Hell Mary played pull within one.I'm screaming at the television Marvin two Marvin,
oh mo, what happens? Englesnever touch the ball again. Yeah.
When a college basketball coach has agood player get two fouls at first
like five minutes of the half, and then takes them out, that drives
me nuts. Run plays on secondand ten. Yes, not fouling when
(02:06:20):
you're up three with six seconds orfewer to go. Second and long is
on my list. I also addedbefore the half. Yeah, team that's
dominant the whole half decides to goin the prevent drives me nuts. Yes,
you have been great the whole half, but since there's only two minutes
left, you have to adjust everyphilosophy you've had the whole game, which
you've dominated, and then a teamgets hot and they go find their mojo
(02:06:43):
and then their offense explodes in thesecond half. I have one defensive indifference.
I think it's stupid throw the runnerout. Yeah, that's press reward.
Okay, that's riss reward. Throwthe runner out. I mean,
if you're up five runs, givethe guys second base, who cares,
no, throw them out. Speaking, I make it easy on it that
the run doesn't count. That Fridaynight run, doesn't him out. Friday
(02:07:04):
Night I'm watching and Ellie steals secondand almost gets thonn out. That would
have been brutal. Yeah, i'dbeen a brutal way to go, tough
way to go. I don't haveproblem with that. But it led to
the contact play. Yeah, Idon't know problem with Ellie here. The
contact play is not see the contactplay is not the same as run home
on a ground ball of the infield. Like a ground ball of the infield
where the infielder is playing back me. That's different. Teams tell you what
(02:07:27):
their strategy is. Yes, ifthe infield is back, they're saying,
hit it here and the guy canscore, go ahead. We don't care.
In that situation. The third baseman'splaying in. He's telling you,
if it's hit to me and yourun home, I'm gonna throw it there.
Yep. Like why do what theother team wants you to do.
It's like again, it's it's likewhen the Bengals decide we're gonna run the
(02:07:48):
ball a lot. Why why areyou doing what the other team wants you
to do? I have one moreYeah, And a lot of this comes
from I love college basketball. Teamis up six to eight points, yeah,
three minutes on the clock, andthe team just stops running offense.
Yes, and they go into wherethey're just gonna hold the ball and take
some terrible shot as the shot clock'srunning down, and they do it like
(02:08:11):
three possessions in a row, andnext thing you know, it's a one
possession game and you can't really findthat momentum. Again, insane. There
have been teams that haven't figured itout away. We've rooted for some of
them, Yes, that haven't figuredout a way to work clock and get
a good shot. Gosh, Like, those two things don't have to be
mutually exclusive. You can re canwork some clock and then run a set,
run an action and get a goodlook. If it doesn't go in,
(02:08:33):
it doesn't go in. You're right, man, that that drives me
insane, because both things that preventyou from winning. Oh, there are
a lot of teams they'll kill thetwenty five seconds and then it's a heave,
and the heave leads to a longrebound, rebound and a runout and
now an easy bucket on a gameand they do it again. Yeah?
That that that. I'm with youthere running the ball on second and long.
Yeah, running the ball on secondand ten it drives me insane.
(02:08:56):
Now, like running the ball onsecond and ten when we're up by twenty
four points on the four fourth quarter. Fine, at that point you're just
trying to go clock because what we'veseen in recent years, second ten run
leads to third and long sack. But fourteen fourteen games, second quarter,
we're running it on second and tenmakes me want to punch myself in the
face. Have you ever done thatbefore? Punch myself in the face?
Not intentionally? Ok, we catsome money on the mind. I tell
(02:09:18):
you that the biggest goof I madeall weekend. Oh it's right after the
Sounder the Night presented by Cincy's Shirts. Visit the stores in Hyde Park,
Love one aor on Dixie Highway inFort Mitchell and always online at sincyshirts dot
com. Now let's make you somemoney. I smoked a pork shoulder.
Oh. I had some folks overon fourth of July. Wow, and
(02:09:41):
uh and so it was really goodas I'm I perfectly time this. Yeah,
there's nothing more satisfying than when yousmoke the meat and you pull it
out at the smoker at precisely thetime that you were hoping to eat.
There's nothing better than that. Itis the most gratifying thing I can think
of as an adult. Uh.So my wife says, hey, as
(02:10:05):
you're getting ready to do that, can My wife makes the greatest mac and
cheese on Earth. I've I've broadcastthis publicly. If anybody wants to pay
her to make mac and cheese,we'll make some side money off of this.
So she makes it. Now,I got to put it in the
oven. And she says to me, when you pull out the meat,
put the mac and cheese in theoven. In this casserole dish that had
a plastic top, I didn't removethe plastic top, so it melted.
(02:10:28):
It melted when you were hosting. So the fourth Yeah, when the Reds
had just finished their sweep of theYankees, what was the vibes like at
the Jagger household? Excitement? Excitement, but trepidation because you know what's to
follow, or had you allowed yourselffor that sense, MO to think,
Okay, ten games left winnable schedule, maybe they'll play themselves. I thought
(02:10:50):
to myself, they won three straightgames, unfortunately because they've dug them them
quite a hole. You know, now they have to win all It's like
what they're gonna do for the nextseven, Like, well, hey,
it's cool, more Rockies and Marlins. That's cool. They have to win
like all seven games. Yeah,So like we they keep digging themselves a
hole. So like after they sweptthe Yankees, man, I thought that
(02:11:11):
was cool, but I wasn't like, dude, Yeah, John Gray under
four and a half strikeouts tonight. You know, our guy Mike just called
and gave us a great compliment onhow he enjoyed listening. Mike has authored
the Home Dog Strategy for us,which made a lot of money on so
in Mike's uh, in honor ofMike today and his kind words, I'm
gonna take the Diamondbacks because this isthe time where they start winning. They're
(02:11:31):
now forty five and forty five,They've gotten themselves to five hundred Arizona as
a home dog tonight against the Braves, and I'm gonna just call it now,
Ryan Feltner, Oh yeah, he'llprobably make his cy Young candidacy tonight.
At Great American Ball we were textingeach other. It was one nothing.
It felt like it was nine za. It did, and David Bell
managed like that he did when hepulled, he managed like one nothing with
(02:11:52):
seven nothing. I have no problemwith that at all. Don't either,
Just don't run the contact play.Do you bring Hunter Green back out in
the eighth No, I have FernandoCruz Frnando Cruz and Alexis Daz in a
very similar situation in New York.It worked. That's the blueprint. The
blueprint is Fernando Cruz, who alot of people talk can be an all
star. In Alexis Dz, they'resupposed to get the last six outs.
You're supposed to win that game withthat bullpen. Oh, I don't have
(02:12:15):
a problem. Had he left HunterGreen in and it gives up a bluepint
of blast. He's getting crushed today, So I have no issue with taking
Hunter Green out. All right. That's Moagar. More of his thoughts coming
up on The Moegger Show for thenext three hours. Victory Lap Monday,
