Campbell Hall and this is where theymake the announcement as far as the entertainment

(03:10):
lineup and all that stuff for therodeo that'll be coming up in September.
And I definitely want to invite everybodyto come on out for the rodeo.
It's a great time. And yesI am on the board of directors.
I am the first vice president ofthe Passing Livestock Showing Rodeo. So you
will be hearing in the next fewmonths quite a bit about the Passing Livestock

(03:32):
Showing Rodeo. There'll be auctions comingup in different things, but you know,
one of the things that we're doingright now is and I guess I
shouldn't say we. One of thethings I'm really really pushing on, and
you know the membership here is pushingon it as well, is building a

(03:53):
new agbarn. Now, we currentlyhave a thirty thousand square foot agbarn for
the kids to show their animals. We're able to service Pasadena, Deer Park,
Laporte, and Clear Creek school districts. We've got more school districts that
would like to come in. Wedon't have enough room for what we have
now. So what we're working onis a capital campaign fund to build a

(04:17):
new agbarn. We're going to gofrom thirty thousand square foot We're going to
build a sixty thousand square foot agbarn. Currently we're able to help show animals
for about six hundred and fifty studentsat the annual rodeo, and with the

(04:38):
added space, we'll be able toadd a lot more students. You know,
last year, the Passing Livestock Showon Rodeo gave back to the students
between scholarships and the auctions and stuff, six hundred and eighty five thousand dollars.
Imagine what we'll be able to dowith the added space and adding more
schools in so you will be hearingmore about that. One of the things

(05:01):
we're doing is a brick campaign, and we've got it set up where it's
five hundred dollars a brick or fortyfive dollars a month for a year.
If you want to donate, andI really I'm asking you to donate,
go to Pasadena rodeo dot com andthere's a spot on the screen there where
you'll see brick that you'll be ableto uh fill out the forms to do

(05:26):
that. Anyways, with all thatbeing said, if you got home improven
questions, that's what we're here for. At seven one three, two one
two five eight seven four Steve inBay City, How can we help you
today? I've got a question.I'm looking at buying a town home that's
brick exterior and uh has a slidingglass door, and the lintel has broken

(05:49):
right in the middle and the mortarhas cracked, but the bricks haven't cracked.
The home inspector couldn't find he's atall. The rooms are square,
doesn't look like there's any foundation issuesanywhere else. There's no sheet rocks problems
or door problems, et cetera. But we don't know why it would have
broken. It's a brick wall, that's second story that it's above it.

(06:14):
I don't know how much it mightcost to repair it. Uh, And
just kind of want to know whatyour thoughts were on that. Did it
actually break? I mean normally thoseare steel lentils or is it just sad
that it's it's no, it's it'scracked in half. Okay, the metal
is broken in half. It lookslike almost like a clean cut. Wow.

(06:42):
I'm really wondering if somebody didn't pieceit together and put it up there,
or you know, something goofy likethat, because honestly, I've never
seen a lentil that broke clean likethat, especially if it's a straight line.
If it's pieces, I don't knowhow they got it to hold up
for forty years. I mean thisplace was built in nineteen eighty. Yeah,

(07:06):
well it might have been welded atthe top, you know, you
don't see it on the top side, and now it gave loose. Because
I've seen lentils where they rusted outthings like that and it'll sag a lot.
But I've never seen one that itliterally snapped like that. But as
far as getting it fixed, abrick mason can take care of that.

(07:29):
And basically what they would do iscome in and remove some of the brick
above it so that they can exposethe lentil. They'll put a new one
in and weave the brick back in. They don't have to take the brick
off all the way up the wall. It would kind of be like a
pyramid stair stepped up above the lentilthat they would take off. And how

(07:55):
much do you think that might cost? Oh? I would expect it's probably
going to run you a couple thousand. Okay, Okay, Now you mentioned
this is a You mentioned this isa town home, right, and that's
part of the issue because the homeownersassociation is responsible for the exterior of the

(08:18):
building, which I'm gonna That's whatI was getting ready to bring up and
and I'm looking at purchasing the purchasingthis thing. So it's like, you
know, I don't know what kindof fight I'm getting into and whether it's
worked to made it look for differentproperty. You know, Well, I
guess the first the first thing Iwould ask you is one are you gonna

(08:41):
pay cash? Are you going tofinance this cash? Okay, So you
won't be dealing with a mortgage companybecause I didn't tell you. The mortgage
company is not going to touch itunless it gets fixed. But you know,
I sometimes look at things a littledifferent than other people. No comments,
Kenny, leave that one go.Uh. But if it was me,

(09:03):
no more than than what that wouldcost, if it was becoming a
big problem and I can't get thehomeowners association to do it, I would
probably have it fixed, Okay. And yeah, okay, that sounds reasonable.
I just I guess I'll negotiate theprice a little bit on the house.

(09:24):
Yep. T about it there,Okay, I appreciate your help.
You bet take care of and againour number seven one three two one two
five eight seven four. And honestly, that is one of the issues you
run into when you're in a townhome or a condominium. And look,

(09:46):
it's not that I'm opposed. Iowned a condominium before, and currently I
have a town home in Pasadena becauseI travel back and forth between Dallas and
Houston, and so I have atownhome in Pasadena. That's that's where I
stay. And I actually probably spendmore time there than I do in Dallas,

(10:11):
but I think you do. Sincemy wife's not here, i'm able
to say that right now. ButI have no problems with the townhome concept.
I actually prefer a town home overa condominium because in a condominium you
are very limited on what you cando. They're responsible for everything. On

(10:31):
a town home, you a lotof times do have the options to do
some of those type of repairs, and you need to really look if you're
going to buy a town home ifthey're covering those kind of repairs. As
an example, the townhome I'm in, when I need a new roof,

(10:52):
it's on me to put the roofon. The homeowners association does not do
that, and so there is differentcovenants that the homeowners' associations use for these
different organizations or town homes. UHAnd typically a town home has a management

(11:15):
company who's running things, and soif you're looking at buying one, check
with the management company as far asespecially in a case like this where you're
looking at having fixed up that way. Anyways, if you got a question
seven one three, two one twofive eight seven four, that's seven one

(11:37):
three, two one two five eightseven four. We more than happy to
take your call and answer your questionshere on Texas Home Improvement. I do
have Kenny Dutton in here with me, my brother today. Uh so you
know, if I do have tostep out for a few minutes, he'll
be more happy to take your calland answer your question as well. Uh.

(11:58):
Also, if you're going to uhprompt him, he might even tell
you some bad stories on me aswell. But I've probably got a few
of it. Just keep in mindI know where the mute button is again.
Seven one three two one two fiveeight seven four. We're gonna take
a quick break. We'll be backwith more Texas Home Improvement. Let's talk

(12:28):
about Texas Remodel Team's window division. You know, if you've listened to the
show any amount of time, you'veheard me talk about Texas Remodel Team in
the past. As far as theirremodeling division, they do a great job.
But they have a window division. That's all they do. Their remodeling
division kind of stays up on theon the north side, but the window

(12:50):
division they go everywhere. So ifyou're having a window issue, you know,

(13:54):
Detton, Texas Home Improvement recommends ourcoverany he won't steer you wrong and he
recommends Guardian roof Systems, I saiddown to Leak City, Hello JD,
Hey Jim, how you doing there? Man? I did call you last
week about a timneycat fleek and Ihad somebody come out and basically they ripped
me off. You recommended I calledGuardian Roofing. I did call him.

(14:15):
The technician came out, he wason time, he's courteous. He said,
yep, they've used the wrong typeof sealing. So he cleaned it
and resealed it and managed that didit. Kudos to you for recommending Guardian,
and kudos to Guardian for doing apolite, pleasant good job for me.
I really really appreciate that, andthank you so much. You've got
to take care of Guardian roof Systems, the official roofing company of Texas Home

(14:39):
Improvement. Here's their number two eightone four oh seven seventy two eighty.
That's two eight one four o sevenseventy two eighty, or click the link
under trusted contractors at thhipro dot com. We just I mentioned the you know
due West foundation impair there as I'mtalking to Jim. But you know we
have a air conditioning company as well, and if you're needing air conditioning work

(15:03):
done on your home, when youwant the best, you call due West,
whether it's just a regular routine maintenance, or you beneath a brand new
system. Seven one three four, seven three seven one five six is the
number to call. Seven one threefour, seven three seven one five six.

(15:24):
It's good to know if business isfrom Texas until you find out they're
really from California. Yeah, there'sonly one Texas Home Improvement. Here's Jim
dot Org. Hey, welcome backto Texas Home Improvements. Your total home
improvements or seven one three two onetwo five eight seven four. That's seven

(15:50):
one three two one two five eightseven four. Let's head to clear Lake
and Mark, Welcome to Texas HomeImprovement. Thank you, Sarah. Hope
you're staying drive between the rain drops. Oh well, we're inside Campbell Hall
out at the passing of Fairgrounds andinside Campbell Hall we have our little broadcast

(16:11):
house. So I got double protection. Okay, good. As I age,
I find that my shoulders don't reacharound as much as they'd like them
to, and so I went outand bought one of those back scrubbers that
you can attach to the back wallof a shower and just you hop up
and down or whatever it is youdo to get the stuff on your back.

(16:33):
And it came with a bunch ofsuction cups, small suction cups on
it. And this house was builtin seventy nine. It's got four inch
square tile in its dimensional tile. It's not smooth, and the suction cups
don't want to stick on that.So my question to you, is there
any kind of coating that could beput on the squares that are involved that

(16:55):
would produce us an even surface forthe suction cups to stick to. I'm
asking everybody I can think of.Yep, nothing that I'm aware of.
Okay, Well, you're in abig club right now. And that wasn't
the right answer, was it.Well, I don't know if there is

(17:15):
a right answer, and we don'tshoot their messengers anymore. So I just
I was hoping that in your experience, you've you've obviously come upon some strange
things, and I was wondering ifthis might be in your quiver. Yeah.
I tell you what I would probablydo with it is they make anchors
that you can use in the shower. Oh and I don't want to put

(17:38):
holes in the back wall. Yeah, But other than that, you're not
going to be able to do anythingon there because the problem is suction cup
itself has to have a flat, smooth surface right now, Your other go
ahead. Your other option would beto take those suction cups and put some

(17:59):
silicon on it or some type ofadhesive and just glue it on there.
But then you can never take itoff. Oh well, you know,
I never even thought of that. That's not a bad idea. I've been
able to undo silicone glued stuff.Yeah, boy, maybe you do have
that in your quiver. Hey,that's good. Well, I'll make something
up if I don't have the rightanswer. Well, you happen to make

(18:22):
up something that sounded good. Itdoesn't sound like I'm going to go down
a rabbit hole on that. Ican do a little experimenting with that too,
So there you go. Fantastic. Now, help me understand something.
Sure, what's the difference between siliconeand silicone adhesive? Because I got some
silicone adhesive to help my daughters fossin the kitchen to keep from spinning,
and we went and stuck it underthere, tightened the bowl down, and

(18:45):
it claimed to be an adhesive,But within two months it worked it self
loose again. Well, and itisn't adhesive. The biggest The big thing
is the amount of silicone. It'sin it. The adhesive is more of
a glue with silicone in it.The silicone calking is more silicone. Uh,
and that that's really it. Uh. Personally on what you're attempting right

(19:11):
now, I would probably use aregular silicone cock a cock. Yep,
you think that would hold the sectionioncups down? Oh? Yeah, because
what I would do is put justa little bit of silicone cock into each
suction cup, push it in place, and you're gonna have to hold it.
Put something on there to hold pressureon it. So you'll run a

(19:33):
board across to the other side ofthe shower or whatever to wedge it while
it while it sets up. Onceit's set up, it's it is like
the glue. It'll hold it.Okay, super Thank you very much,
all right, you take care youas well, take care bye bye again.
Seven one three two one two fiveeight seven four Henry and Cyprus,

(19:59):
how can we help yet? Thanksfor taking my call. I in my
house, in my bedroom have awindow seat. And for want of a
better description, it's just like aneight foot board that just juts out with
a glass above it, so it'sjust a board. In the summer,
the heat comes boiling up through thewood, and in the winter the coal
comes boiling up. So I wouldlike to insulate it and insulate the bottom

(20:25):
of the board, which is outsidethe house. But I don't know what
to use or how to attach it. And once I've attached it, how
do I keep it from falling offtill it sets? Okay, so you
got only a couple of choices. Is the board exposed on the bottom,
Yes, it is. I haveto lay in the grass to attach whatever
you recommend. The only thing youcould put on there is going to be

(20:49):
a spray foam insulation because it'll selfadhere. Problem is it's going to be
exposed and not necessarily going to wantto stay looking right. I'm gonna put
you on hold. We gotta takea quick break. I'll come right back
to you. Let's talk about concordwindow film. You know, if you've

(21:37):
got rooms in your home with alot of windows that are too hot,
I'm talking about the room is toohot. Maybe you're getting glare coming in
through your windows. You got windowsthat are facing where neighbors are able to
look in through your windows. Yougot sliding glass doors that are heating up
the floors, and the furniture. You need to call Concord Window Film.

(21:57):
It's a professional grade window film, not the cheap stuff that you get at
places like Amazon and that. Butyou can still install this yourself, and
it's the window covering itself. Itcan give you the privacy with a dark
tint, or you can go withso light a tint that you can't even

(22:17):
see it's there. Yet it stillblocks up to ninety nine percent of the
UV rays from coming through your windows. You want some window till you need
to talk to somebody about it.Eight eight eight two zero six one four
one three for Concord Window Film. You were listening to Texas Home Improvement with
Jim Ditton. You are a sourcefor all things home improvement. That's as

(22:41):
big ass Texas here. It's JimDunton. Hey, welcome back to Texas
Home Improvement. Seven one three twoone two five eight seven four. That's
seven one three, two one twofive eight seven four. Were broadcast passing
live today from the Passing Livestock ShowingRodeo picnic and we're out the Passing and

(23:04):
Fairgrounds just having a good time outhere. They're getting ready to make the
announcement as far as the entertainment lineupthis year for the Rodeo. But when
we left I was talking with Henryand Henry's trying to insulate a board basically
that he sits on. Henry iswhen you, I know, you have

(23:26):
to lay in the grass and lookup at it. But is there any
trim or anything that hangs down tohide anything you're going to do there?
Just a little bit, maybe maybehalf an inch something like that. So
I'm concerned to a degree about theaesthetics, but in terms of really looking

(23:47):
for functionality. If it's not pretty, it's not pretty. Yeah. Any
any chance you could put a littlebit bigger piece of trim to hang down
a little further good thought, Yeah, because then you could use foam insulation
up in there and it wouldn't show. Or you could just get some hard

(24:10):
form you know, hard form boardsthat are already foam that you can put
up in there and just blew theminto place. And any you know,
the thicker, the better, anythingyou do is going to be better than
nothing. Though, what would yousuggest to use as an adhesive? And

(24:32):
how do I mean? And ifit's one of those things where it's as
X amount of time in order todry and cure. How do I hold
it up? You just put anotherboard under underneath there with like two by
fours holding it up in place, wedged into the ground. That's what I
thought, So any recommend So whatabout the adhesive? Uh, liquid nail

(24:56):
is always a good one for thatkind of stuff, okay, And any
specific kind of foam board, anyspecific material you know. Actually, what
I would probably look at is aroofing type that has the radiant barrier,

(25:18):
and put the radiant barrier facing downso the silver side is facing down.
You can put the liquid nail onon the phone part glue it up onto
the board. But with doing thatyou could also pass some screws in there
that aren't think enough to go throughthe board, but think enough to get
into the board to help hold itin place while the blue dries. Then

(25:44):
okay, that sounds good. Okay, well I think that pretty much answers
my questions. I do appreciate yourtime, my pleasure. You take care
fine again our number seven one threetwo one two five eight seven four.
That's seven one three, two onetwo five eight seven four. Let's head

(26:07):
over to Deer Park and Frank, welcome to Texas Home Improvement. Thank you,
Jim, I really appreciate your program. And a questions about a car
board I'm considering having built where it'sattached to the house, you know,
built with wood and uh, youknow architectural shingles probably twenty to twenty five

(26:29):
foot out from the house gable endon the house to attach it to.
So questions about the footing. I'veseen some of them that just had like
an eight by eight post attached witha post brace on top of the driveway.
But I'm thinking I ought to havesome kind of footing under that,
shouldn't it, Yes, sir,When they do that, uh, it's
got a very limited lifespan because asthe soils move up and down, and

(26:52):
in Deer Park, you know verywell it's gonna move up and down.
Uh, it'll mess it up.The four inch concrete is just not enough.
So what you typically can do isone of two things. Either come
just outside the driveway or cut asquare out of the driveway and you can

(27:18):
actually drill a peer down into theground and put the anchor on top of
the pier so that you got somethingthat's deeper in the ground to hold steady
for you Okay, well something maybelike if one to do concrete and rebar
with you know, the JABL typewould how deep do you think that should

(27:40):
go in? I would say godown probably if I was gonna build it,
i'd go down probably at least threefeet, yeah, at a minimum.
Okay, yep, that was kindof thing that I've built ship footings

(28:02):
that way. But I didn't knowif like you know, six or eight
like you see them up north inthe frost zones, going deeper. But
I think that you could. I'llbe sufficient. It'll probably outlast you and
me going that deep. Yeah,I'm no doubt. Oh I didn't think
you were that old. But yeah, well, thank you very much.

(28:26):
You know I appreciate the info.Oh you bet. And you know you're
right here in Deer Park, rightnext to the Pasadena. You're gonna make
it to the rodeo this year?Correct, Yes, sir, I want
to give it my best. You'regonna what I want to do it?
Yes? Okay, there you go, and make sure you look me up
when you come out. Okay, tell me your contractor's name again. The

(28:48):
west? Do you dash west?Uh? Because we drill the peers for
you. But if we're putting upa car port. You know, I
would give Texas Remodel Team a call, okay and talk talk with them because

(29:10):
as far as building the car portitself, they can do a great job
for you. They do a lotof patio rooms and sun rooms and stuff
like that, and you can reachthem at two eight one six one two
fifty nine ninety one ninety one.All right, five nine nine one.
Thank you very much, Jem,and I'll see you at the rodeo.

welcome back to Texas Home Improvement.Your Total Home Improvement source seven one three

(33:42):
two one two five eight seven four. That's seven one three two one two
five eight seven four. Let's headto West Houston. Shirley. How are
you today? I'm fine? Thankyou well? How can I help you?
I'm thinking of putting it generator andI was wondering if you had any
recommendations. Take a look at generakUh Genera Yep. I know there's other

(34:10):
brands out there, but Generac makesup over eighty percent of them, and
I mean they just they set thestandards for home generators. Yeah, yep,
yeah, so I would look atgenerac now as far as somebody who

(34:31):
can do it, A lot ofelectricians can do it. But you know,
Right Touch Electrical can hook one upfor you. Are you would you
repeat that? Right Touch Electrical andtheir number is two eight one six four

(34:51):
five five five two six. Nowyou'll see there's a lot of generator stores
as well. I mean Right TouchElectrical. They do the hook up part.
But really, if you're going toget a generator, you're gonna want

(35:13):
to get one and a maintenance agreementso it's being taken care of. Yes,
and so a lot of times Irecommend you just go through a regular
generator store like Generator Supercenter, oneof those type of stores, so that
you can get that maintenance agreement wherethey come out periodically and do the routine

(35:34):
maintenance oil changes and stuff. Okay, do you have a number for them?
I do not, Okay, allright, but they would come out
and give us an estimate, yes, ma'am. Okay, are you looking
for a whole house to Yes,yes, it's about a two thousand square
foot house, one story, yep, So you will be anywhere from probably

(36:02):
on a very low side. Wouldbe ten thousand to probably something in the
fifteen sixteen thousand. It's going tobe somewhere in that range. Okay,
okay, all right, that's kindof what I was thinking. Yeah,
OKAYI thank you, You're welcome. You have a great weekend. Thank you

(36:22):
you too. But and you know, with the predictions for the amount of
hurricanes we're looking at, and justall the weather we've had, I mean,
you know, when the storms camethrough, what was that two weeks
ago, eight hundred and fifty thousandpeople without power, it makes everybody want

(36:43):
to go ahead and get a generator. If you're looking at generators, you
know, there's typically a couple ofthings that you need to look at.
One, what's going to be yourfuel supply, whether you're going to use
natural gas or LP gas or diesel, and those those are typically the three

(37:04):
that you want to look at.I've always had mixed feelings on it,
and I will tell you that mywhole back on natural gas has always been
if we get a bad storm thatcomes in and houses get blown down,
but your stay standing and infrastructure hasproblems, you're not always rest assured you're

(37:30):
gonna have natural gas coming to thehouse, So I've kind of always leaned
a little heavier on the LP gasthan I have natural gas. But I
will tell you I've looked into it, and if you get a like a
twelve to fifteen kW generator and you'rehaving to run it continuously, two hundred

(37:55):
and fifty gallon tank will only lastyou three weeks and then you'd have to
have the tank filled up again. So there's plus And with that two fifty
or five hundred now I can't can'tremember, but anyways, it goes through
the gas rather rapidly. So thoseare the things you would have to look

(38:16):
at. Diesel, I really don'tpush that one because quite frankly, you
don't want to be storing all thatdiesel to keep it running, and chances
are you're gonna have problems trying toget diesel for a little bit after a
storm. So that's reading LP forme has traditionally been the one I tend

(38:38):
to look at. Kenny, Iknow you've been thinking about getting a generator.
What have you been? Well,if I put one in my yard,
it's most like they're going to begas. But the gas that takes,
you know, it depends on whereyou mount it. It takes a
pretty good supply line, so there'scosts involved in running that over to it
too. But I would go withnatural gas where I'm at the lpeaches runs

(39:02):
out so fast, right, Yeah, And that's what you have to look
at because I mean some areas whena storm comes in, sometimes you're without
power for a very extended amount oftime, and uh, you know,
the last thing you want to dois run out of natural gas. And
the opposite of what I was sayinga minute ago on natural gas. You

(39:24):
know, if if everything is destroyedenough where the natural gas isn't being able
to be pumped to you, youprobably got bigger problems. Yeah, I
think my house would. Yeah.So anyways, got a home improven question
seven one three two one two fiveeight seven four. That's seven one three,

(39:44):
two, one two five eight sevenfour. All right. We were
just talking about foam insulation, andyou've heard me say this for years.

one three, two one two fiveeight seven four. We are broadcasting today
from the Passing Livestock Show and RodeoPicnic where they just made the entertainment announcement
which we will go over in thenext hour of Texas Own Improvement. Claire
in West University, what can wedo for you? Well, I have

(43:30):
a generator that's never never worked, and I've had it for three years.
It comes on runs for about fiveminutes when it does its test every week.
But when we've had the coal snapswhere the if you look at Urka
and you see where all the energy'scoming from, it's coming from gas from

(43:51):
natural gas, and so the pressure'sdown, but you have electricity, generator
doesn't come on. Well, it'sokay that electricity. But my case,
and I've heard this around town,is that my furnace doesn't work and my
hot water heater doesn't work because there'snot enough gas to power it. Because
everybody's agetining a generator and it makes, you know, and so the pressure

(44:13):
goes down. So in this lastterrible you know, the big storm where
nine hundred thousand people lost power,I have a big generator. Everybody's generator
is working except for mine because itneeds eleven PSI to run. And the

(44:37):
people that I have maintenance with cameout did their best to try to get
it to work. It would workfor about five minutes and then the pressure
would drop and it would turn off. So we basically spend a lot of
money on our generator and it didn'twork. So it still doesn't work,

(44:57):
and you know, we've just hadone big storm after next big storm.
So what size generator did you get? What size? Oh? I have
to go look at it tell youbecause on the numbers it's we have like
a four thousand square but house andit is okay, So you got a

(45:20):
large one yeah, because I havenot heard of people having I mean,
every now and then you hear somebodywho has an issue with one, and
that's like anything. But uh,the gas flow traditionally has not been a
huge issue on them. I wonderif it's a supply line size issue.
That's what I'm wondering, is ifwhen they ran the gas to it,

(45:44):
if they didn't make the line bigenough or the line big enough to the
house one or the other. Wegot to take a break for a news
traffic and weather. We'll be backwith more Texas home improvement. All right.

now it's time to take calls andanswer questions, so seven one three,
two, one two, five eightseven four, and I'll see what I
can do to help you out hereon Texas home improvement. In fact,
speaking of that, I don't wehead into an email question here. Uh
didn't think about getting those ready, did I? And so Anthony and Katie

(49:44):
sent in an email question about awood deck. He says, I have
a fairly new wooden deck that wasbuilt with treated wood. Do I need
to use the ready seal on itto make it last even longer? Absolutely?
Because what ready seal will do isnot only make it last. The
way it makes it last longer,I guess I should say is it's oils

(50:07):
so deep down into the wood fibers, and by keeping the fibers moist that
way, it doesn't take on waterwhich ruins the wood, but it doesn't
let the boards crack and split anddecay and stuff. It just makes it
last a lot longer. And italso will give the wood a color,

(50:30):
you know, whether you don't wantto stain it to look like redwood or
cedar, or you can leave itnatural if you want as well. But
it does give you options on that, So absolutely I would recommend you do
that and yes, it will extendlife of it indefinitely. And you know,

(50:51):
Kenny, a good example is upat the Deer Lease. We built
that pavilion thing up there and sprayedin it with ready seal. Now,
I purposely overdid it trying to makeit run, and I'll get well,
I wanted to test it because youknow they always talk about but that's all

(51:12):
treated lumber. But you can't tellwhen you look at it. It really
looks nice and it still looks brandnew. And we put that in five
years ago. Now maybe I thinkit's a little longer than that. Even
now. One key thing that yougotta do is you got to let the
wood thoroughly dry. A lot oftreated wood has a lot of moisture in
it, and if you try toput it up or try to put the

(51:34):
ready seal on it when it's stillgot the moisture, that can be a
problem. So typically, like onthat for instance, I think we had
that built for oh, probably abouta year when we just under a year.
Yeah, it was about nine monthsI think when we put the ready
seal on it. Well, Thento give a comparison, I bought a

(51:58):
trailer the same year that was treatedwithud on it. And I've already replaced
the deck on that and because Idid not treat it with anything and you
asked me, I told you to, but you didn't listen, did you.
Yep, And I replaced a deckon it, and uh this year
and I did did put ready sealon it just a couple of weeks ago.
Okay, Well, let's head backinto the calls here at seven one

(52:19):
three, two one two five eightseven four. Becky, how can we
help you today? Well? Howlong is you? I've had a contractor
who I'm very happy with over hereat the house for the last couple of
weeks. He's remodeling my uh masterbathroom. My house is about forty years

(52:39):
old, so you can imagine allthat. But excuse me, Eryl,
since he's been working, our waterfasters are not acting right. We're getting
ah water. I was a coldand I don't know is there something about

(53:01):
a mixer, But I don't knowis this on him or something. I'm
gonna have faith for him. Well, it'll depend. I mean, uh,
if it's in a different area ofthe house and he hadn't touched those
faucets, then I would say no, it shouldn't be on him. If
it's in the area where he's beenworking, maybe, but if it's in

(53:23):
the if it's the mixer valve itselfhas gone bad, then there's really nothing
he would have done that would havecaused that. Okay, I understand there's
supposed to be one mixer valve inthe house that if it gets messed up,
it will make them all go bad. Do you have a recirculating system?

(53:47):
I have no idea. When youturn your hot water on, do
you get hot water immediately or doesit take a ceril? But take it
a little bit. He takes alittle bit. But now when I turned
the cold water onund I mean,it's just as hard as you want to

(54:09):
be. I'm wondering if, indoing his work, if he crossed over
some pipes that are circulating back toeach other. That's what I'm thinking too,
because is it happening. Is ithappening in multiple faucets or just one
multiple Okay, he's he in doinghis work. He has crossed a hot

(54:34):
water and a cold water pipe together, and so it's feeding through it.
He's going to have to figure outwhere he did that, and more than
likely in your work that you're havingdone or did you get a new shower
put in, Yes, we are, and he's taking all that out.
We're having the vanity faustards for them. And about Okay, he has crossed

(55:02):
the hot and cold water together somewhere, so before he closes up the walls,
he needs to find that. Okay, okay, thank you very much,
You're welcome. Bye bye. Yeah. If she just said that it

(55:24):
was only happening in one then Iwould think it's the mixture valve in the
fawcet, because each individual faucet willhave a mixture valve, not not one
mixture for the for the entire house. But when she starts talking about getting
hot water out of the cold fawcetsat all the faucets, now something got

(55:44):
crossed somewhere again. Seven one threetwo one two five eight seven four Doug

now be on there. Shall wesay cancel this? Because I don't know.
Does he just make any sense?Yep, that's exactly what a scam

I told him, I said,I said, wait a minute, if
you turn this into the insurance companyand they say no, well now that

Texas Home Improvement. Seven one threetwo one two five eight seven four.
Of again, it's seven one threetwo one two five eight seven four.
Let's head out to Missouri City,Paul. This is Jim. How can

(01:02:42):
I help you here? Hello?Jim, I have a question regarding maintenance
on the PBC piping coming off thedrain pans at the air conditioner up in
the attic. What's your opinion onusing street bleach to to resolve maybe two
times a year. Any algae thatwould grow in there and block that line

(01:03:07):
should be quarterly, okay, andthat'll keep going now. Now keep in
mind, though, what you shouldbe doing is the primary line because that
shot. That pan that you seeup there, that's the secondary. That's

(01:03:27):
the overflow. If your primary getsplugged and the water starts coming out of
the AC unit, it goes intothat secondary pan and drains out. But
yeah, you need to you needto be doing it about quarterly, quarterly.
But the straight bleach well will notyes, digradate the PBC or the

(01:03:49):
joints of the piping. No,No, you don't have to worry about
that at all. Okay, okay, So I need to make sure I
hit the primary pie piping as wellas the secondary. I guess I've just
been focused on secondary. Yeah.Yeah, the primary is the one that

(01:04:10):
you want to it's the primary.Typically the secondary doesn't ever have any moisture
in it, so it doesn't reallyget stuff growing in it. But the
primary uh an AC system will pulllike, you know, fifteen gallons a
day out of the air and that'swhat drains through that pipe. And so
it's draining slow enough that it hastime to build up into molds and mildews.

(01:04:33):
And those pipes aren't always draining straight, you know, they got dips
and stuff, so it'll hold water. That's where we run into problems.
Yes, I understand. Okay, thank you already. You take care again

(01:04:55):
our number seven one three two onetwo five eight seven four. Again it's
seven one three two one two fiveeight seven four. George, welcome to
seven forty k tr H. Howcan I help you? Thank you.
I listened to your comments on theGenerat generator system, and I'm sure there

(01:05:15):
are thousands and thousands of people thathave them that are tickled to death with
them. But the one I hadwasn't so wonderful, and I thought i'd
tell people to this buyer beware.Uh. They may work fine, they
may not mind. Failed. Itshorted out on the first time I ever
needed it, and then I gotthem to replace the arm tire on it.
And the second time I needed it, it's shorted I get so I

(01:05:38):
had to get rid of it.Uh. And the cabinet rode it out
on it because it was they hadmetal cabinets. Then I think they're polygy,
right, uh. And anyway, the cabinet rode it out and the
thing was shorted out. So Ihad had to pay four hundred dollars to
get rid of it. So Iwent to Dermax Dual Fuel. I got
gasoline and propane and it serves youwell. But you got to have a

(01:05:59):
generator with the duel Yeah, andI have one with the dual fuel.
I like the dual fuel, butmine's a portable. I don't have one.
Well they's mountable yet. But yeah, and I get it. They're
people have had problems, but youknow, I don't care what you look
at that's manufactured. There's gonna besome that have issues. I just want

(01:06:21):
to tell you that everybody in andtackle to bed with them. That's all
I have. Oh yeah, Iget it. Not a problem, you
bet. And you know I've hadother calls where people have had problems with
them as well. But again, they're still eighty percent of the generators that

(01:06:45):
are being installed in people's homes.Does that make them the best? Probably
not, But they do set thestandard of what all the generators are and
they're the ones that you can getworked on when need be granted, it's
still gonna be a limited supply ofwho can work on it. And the

(01:07:06):
last thing is they are made herein the United States, where a lot
of the stuff now is imported. These are made in Wisconsin. So yeah,
I still if I was gonna putone in my house, which eventually
I probably will, but no,no time soon. I'm doing some other

(01:07:27):
things to the house first, generakis what I will be looking at.
Well, when you figure that eightypercent of them out there, you're gonna
hear that some of them have anissue, because it's eighty percent of what's
out there. Yeah, it's themajority of them. Well, and it's
it's kind of like for Dodge andChevy. I know there's other manufacturers,
but we don't talk about them becausethey're all imports as well. There's some

(01:07:50):
people who love a Chevy, somepeople who love a Dodge, some people
who've had problems with one, andyou know they that's reading they stick with
the other. It's just there arethere are bad when you manufacturing and stuff,
there's bad ones out there always.Anyways, you got a question seven
one three two one two five eightseven four seven one three two one two

(01:08:15):
five eight seven four And again, don't forget about our website t h I
pro dot com. It's there isa resource to help you out. Twenty
four seven, We are broadcasting livetoday from the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeos
Picnic and uh it's coming near theend of the picnic at this point.

(01:08:38):
But we had a good time outhere. We've been out here since twelve
o'clock doing the show throughout the stateof Texas, and uh gonna be here
until four o'clock taking your calls. So again seven one, three, two,
one two, five, eight, seven four. Let's talk about Concord

(01:08:59):
window You know, if you've gotrooms in your home with a lot of
windows that are too hot. I'mtalking about the room is too hot.
Maybe you're getting glare coming in throughyour windows. You got windows that are
facing where neighbors are able to lookin through your windows. You got sliding
glass doors that are heating up thefloors and the furniture. You need to

(01:09:20):
call Concord window film. It's aprofessional grade window film, not the cheap
stuff that you get at places likeAmazon and that. But you can still
install this yourself, and it's thewindow covering itself. It can give you
the privacy with a dark tint,or you can go with so light a

(01:09:42):
tint that you can't even see it'sthere, yet it still blocks up to
ninety nine percent of the UV raysfrom coming through your windows. You want
some window tipt You need to talkto somebody about it. Eight eight eight
two zero six one four one threefor Concord window film. He's dependable,

(01:10:02):
consistent, and sane, the completeopposite of Texas weather. Here's Jim Dunton
on Texas Home Improvement. Hey,welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Your
total home Improvement source seven one threetwo one two five eight seven four Again,

(01:10:23):
any home improvement question you have, feel free to pick up the phone,
give me a call, and I'llsee what I can do to help
you out here in Texas Home Improvement. You know, Uh, We're going
to talk in a moment here withClint Castillo, the president of the Passing
Livestock Showing Rody and go over thelineup. But before we do, Hank
in the galleria, what can Ido for you? Yeah, sir,
let's see, I've got an olderhome and I'm the generator. Kin of

(01:10:46):
came out, but he said itis going to be did have to run
a gasline too far and it wasgoing to be seventeen eighteen thousand dollars for
installation. Yep, So that thatdoesn't work for me. But but I'm
wondering if I had enough solar cellsand batteries maybe, I mean, how
do you figure that? How manywatchs do you get per foot on a

(01:11:11):
solar cell? It does depend onthe solar cells a little bit. And
and quite frankly, the solar panelsaren't gonna be your big problem. What
you're gonna have to look at isthe battery pack for it. That's where
the money's gonna be. Yeah, yeah, that's that's how much? Is

(01:11:31):
there any way to I mean, how many batteries do I need? I
guess the battery are they travel batteries? Are they something else? No,
it's it's different. Yeah, Andthen it has a converter to go into
one ten and everything. But youcan you do it absolutely. But if
you thought the seventeen thousand was expensive, wait till you get the price on

(01:11:55):
that. I see. Okay, all right, so maybe the generator is
better. Okay. Yeah, Andyou know, and I don't know if
you heard earlier, but I wassaying somewhere between eleven and fifteen sixteen thousand,
that's the normal range for like atwo thousand square foot house. Yes,

(01:12:15):
And a lot of the difference ishow far they got to run the
gas lines to it, and ifthe gas line is actually big enough for
the size generator you need. AndI think that was the problem with the
the one person who it would runfor a little bit and then cut off
because it was starving for fuel. It's not that the whole area is eating
up all the gas. Their lineswere probably too small for the size generator

(01:12:41):
they had. That's right, That'sright. So that is the other thing
that bothers me a little bit aboutthe natural gas power generators? Is it
both neighbors on both sides have one, like me has one? Loud?
Well, let's say you get anotherCarla or something like that, and the
powers out for a week and theneverybody's got them going. Can they suck

(01:13:04):
them? Yes, on the mainlandso hard that everybody's going to be struggling,
you know. I guess if everybodyhad them going, yes, right
now, we don't have enough ofthem out there yet. That that's the
issue I see kind of like it. It's like a big furnace, I
guess in the winter, isn't it. And that's what I was going to

(01:13:25):
say. If everybody had their gasfurnaces going, do you lose your furnace?
No? No? No? Okay, alrighty well, listen. Thanks
you bet, take it easy.Thank you all right with that? Seven
one three two one two five eightseven four. And look, I still
love generators, whole house generators, but like I said a little while ago,

(01:13:51):
if I was looking at one frommy house, it'll be LP gas
simply because I don't want to dependon the gas line if something else happens.
Anyways, with that, I've beensaying all day. We're out here
at the Pasadena Livestock Showing Rodeos picnicand one of the things they're the big
thing they do out here is announcethe lineup, and I say, I

(01:14:11):
always say they I am one ofthe I'm the first vice president out here
at the Passing Livestock Show on Rodeo, so I'm on the board of directors
and stuff. But I want towelcome the President of the Passing Livestock Showing
Rodeo, Kent, Clint Castelow, and Clint. How's it going man,
Thanks Jim. I'm truly excited.Like Jim said on the president of the

(01:14:32):
seventy fifth Passing Livestock Showing Rodeo. For seventy five years, we've been here
in Pasadena and just doing an incrediblejob of given to our community in our
surrounding areas scholarships, giving money backto kids. Last year alone, we
gave six hundred and fifty eight thousanddollars back to the youth in this area.
And that's that's not possible without justan amazing group. Like Jim said,
we're out here at the picnic today. Yeah, I did a bad

(01:14:55):
thing. I reversed that earlier todayI said six' eighty five. But yeah,
six fifty eight and fifty eight thousanddollars is a good, good little
chunk of money and night. Thisall started nineteen forty nine with some businessmen
in Pasadena and we're truly part ofmyself and Jim are part of this,
this legacy that gives so much backto the town that we all love live
in. Yep. Now you've gotthe lineup. We just made the announcement

(01:15:16):
here for the lineup, and youwant to go over entertainers for this year
because I think it's a good lineup. Absolutely, Jim, we're super excited
about this lineup. So you know, we kick things off with our barbecue
cookoff starting in September thirteenth and fourteenth. It's just a you know, I
have a hundred plus cookoff teams outhere on the grounds. Then we take
a week off and then we kickthings back off September twentieth Friday Night,

(01:15:40):
first Night rodeo with mister Wade Bowen. Wade Bowen's just an incredible act there.
He's a good one, he is. And then Saturday Night mister Aaron
Watson on the twenty first of September, Aaron Watson will take the stage.
And then Sunday, Sunday nine twentytwo is a matinee performance. It's a
two point thirty rodeo followed by dePiranda. That'll be just an incredible day

(01:16:02):
that we've been growing the last coupleof years and exciting things are happening that
Sunday, you know. And forsomeone who doesn't want to stay out,
wait, that's a great show tocome to. Yeah, you're you're a
home in bed early, the sun'salmost still up when you can make it
home from that. Matt and ashow there, Jim. And then Monday
we have ten dollars ticket night.Monday's what we call Family Nights, our
breast cancer awareness night where you're pinkand support a breast cancer awareness ten dollars

(01:16:24):
tickets for the family. There's noentertainer on stage, but we just do
that night so we can make itaffordable for everybody. And if you want
to see a great rodeo at areally affordable price, that's it. Yes
sir, Yes, sir. Tuesday, we're trying something new. It's the
first time we're gonna have this genreof music on our stage. So Tuesday,
n nine twenty four, it's gonnabe Back in Black. They're an

(01:16:45):
ac DC Experience ACDC tribute band. We're gonna see how that goes. I'm
excited about that. It's gonna bea lot of fun on that night.
Didn't stretch you too much with thatone, did we? Yeah, and
Jim actually come to me with thisidea, and I said, man,
let's try it. I think it'ssomething we've never done before. I'm excited
about it. And then Wednesday,Man, he's hurting on the radio nine
to twenty five. Wednesday, it'sgonna be mister Drew Baldridge. He's he's

(01:17:08):
hot. He's got you know onetop ten right now on the radio.
You're hearing on on ninety three Qand one hundred point three that played play
of songs. He's gonna be thefirst time on our stage. We're really
excited about about that show as well. And then Thursday Thursday, something I'm
super excited about. He hasn't beenhere in a long time, but he's
just just a genuine guy and atrue performer. Thursday nine to twenty six
is gonna be mister Neil McCoy.He's gonna be great. I mean,

(01:17:30):
he got a great applause even whenwhen the announcement was made, when I
he got just an incredible amount clausefrom our crowd here at the Passing Lifetalk
Show on Radio Picnic. And then, man, this guy's been on our
stage before, but he is justtruly a genuine love Texas kind of guy.
On Friday nine twenty seven, misterKevin Fowler will take the stage on
our final Friday there. I've alwaysbeen surprised that at Kevin Fowler, as

(01:17:51):
big as he is in Texas, why he's not bigger elsewhere? And I
wish I knew that because he justhe he puts on an incredible show in
Texas. But he hasn't he hasn'the hasn't gained the fame and elsewhere he
is. And then our last andfinal night, Saturday Night to close it
all out. Nine twenty eight willbe the Randy Rogers fan another great one,
another great one. There was actuallythree or four fars around us that

(01:18:13):
wanted Randy Rodgers, and we weretruly truly lucky that we were the first
one that's soliciting and he'll be comingto our show. So there's lots of
exciting things happened the seventy five years, and we love what we do out
here, and I'm truly truly blessedto be the president and I get to
volunteer alongside some amazing people like misterJim Dutton does an incredible job, and
we'd love for you to come out. You go to Pasady in a rodeo

(01:18:35):
dot com and get your tickets andit's gonna be a great rodeo and hopefully
we'll see in September hopefully. Wellnow, I had a caller earlier from
Deer Park and he says, yeah, hopefully I can make And I said
hopefully. He says, okay,I'll be there. And that's truly that's
what we need. I mean, this is what helps us give scholarships away

(01:18:56):
and things is people come out andenjoy the rodeo and the carnival and the
all the different things that we havetake place out here. Yes, sir,
es Sir Jim, I appreciate theopportunity to speak on the on the
show today, and I said, well, we'll see at the rodeo.
Sounds good. Thank you Clint, thank you sir. All right, So
with that, we're gonna take aquick break seven one three, two,

(01:19:17):

let's see seven one three two onetwo five eight seven four. Let's
head to pair Land and Richard.Welcome to Texas Home Improvement. Thank you,

(01:22:59):
Mike. Question, is you saidthat it's okay to use chlorine to
clear out your drain lines for yourAC unit to keep them clean? Yes,
I have an aerobic septic system.Do I need to worry about the
chlorine harming it or affecting it?And do I need to limit how much
chlorine I drop down it? Well, you typically only need to put like

(01:23:25):
a cup, you don't need toput a whole bunch down in there.
And no, that's not going toaffect your aerobics any I have aerobics at
my house as well and never beenan issue. Okay, thank you,
you bet take care. And thenice thing about an aerobic system unlike a

(01:23:47):
septic system. Aerobics is is morelike a true water treatment plant. You
got three chambers that the fluids gothrough and then it's actually sprinkled out over
the yard where the old septic tankswhere stuff like this would affect it more
that you went into a tank, you went into a secondary tank and then

(01:24:10):
out into the leech field and uh, it was still you could kill the
bacterias and stuff in it. Youknow, when you have an aerobic system,
they're coming and putting chlorine or yeah, chlorine tablets into one of the
chambers every quarter anyway, So yeah, you're not going to have issues with
that again. Seven one three, two, one two five eight seven four.

(01:24:35):
Let's head down to Lake Jackson andTom. This is Jim. Hi
there, Jim, Yeah, Ikind of enjoy your show. Well,
thank you. Uh. I wantto run a freezer, a regular freezer
maybe an eighteen cubic foot and arefrigerator off an inverter and connect the inverter

(01:24:59):
to to my car or truck, you know, to run it to go
from DC to AC one ten.How How would I size up that inverter
for them? Two appliances, theinverters are sized by how many amps and
how much power is going to draw. So you just have to get the

(01:25:20):
draw off of the appliances that youwant to run and then apply it that
way. Now, make sure thatyou're doing it off of the startup not
the run mode, because when itkicks on and starts up, it actually
draws more than when it's just running. As far as the appliances because the

(01:25:46):
compress you make them uh sized upfor that. Yes, okay, yeah,
And there are systems. There arebattery backup systems available now that you
can plug into your wall to chargeit, and then when you have a
power outage, you plug your whateveryou want to keep running into it.

(01:26:10):
And I mean they're big enough toeven run air conditioners on an r V.
Now it's only going to run ita couple hours, but that's a
lot of juice. So let mesee if I understand it. I could
I use the vehicle, the powerthe inverter to put it into the battery.
Then then the battery gets storage orthe power is stored in the battery.

(01:26:34):
Then when it goes down, Ican charge the battery through the inverter.
Correct the way most of these systemswork. Is they uh any gosh,
I'm trying to remember the name ofthe one I've looked at. It's
blue something or other. Uh.Most of them are designed where you plug

(01:26:57):
your freezer refrigerator into it, runit for a few hours, and then
you shut it off for a fewhours. You don't leave it on all
the time drawing, and that's inorder to extend the amount of time that
it'll operate for you. And someof those, like I said that,
you can plug them in or youcan have solar panels to keep them charged

(01:27:18):
during the day. And I cantell you I take my RV camping.
I have just a little solar chargerthat I keep the battery on the front
of my RV charge to run allthe electrical in my trailer, and it
does a great job. I don'trun the AC off of it, but
everything else I can. Is therea website I could go to for that?

(01:27:41):
Or I'll tell you what I gotto take a quick break. Let
me look up the name of it, and when we come back, I'll
put that out for you. Wallback in a moment with more Texas Home
Improvement. Ready Seal. You know, Ready Seal is far and away the
best product for staining a fence orreally any outdoor wood surface. Ready Seal

(01:28:02):
Stain and Sealer can It can beapplied by anybody. It is virtually goofproof
because you can roll it on,brush it on, spray it on,
drips, runs, lap streaks, doesn't matter. They all soak in and
disappear. I have purposely tried sprayingit on and letting it run and literally

(01:28:23):
having it drip onto the boards downbelow, thinking Okay, I'm gonna make
this thing look bad. It doesn't. It just soaks in and disappears everywhere.
So if you're looking to protect anyoutdoor wood at your home, you
need to take a look at readySeal. You can find it at box

So, the battery backup that Ihave looked at is Blue Eddio. It's
b l U E T T I. That's one branding take a look at.

(01:31:21):
That's a stackable system that you canadd basically battery packs on top of
each other, still use solar tocharge them or plug them into the wall.
The other one I've looked at isJackerie and that's j A C K

(01:31:46):
there's others out there. That Ihave only glanced at. I haven't really
looked at them that much yet,but this is a really up and coming
market. As far as the batterybackups for whole house stuff, eco Flow
is another one that is stackable andyou know, basically you don't have much

(01:32:10):
of limits on what you can dowith them. Uh, it's just a
limit as far as what your pocketbookcan handle. So that's what you're looking
at on those battery backup systems. With that, hey, I want to
