by talking with Derek from a Lental Lift And Derek,
(02:25):
how are you today?
Speaker 5 (02:27):
I'm doing great?
Speaker 4 (02:27):
How are you?
Speaker 8 (02:28):
I am doing wonderful?
Speaker 7 (02:31):
Now, yeah, well, let's talk about lental lift a little
bit here, because you know, it's one of those things
that a lot of people don't really understand what it is.
So let's start with the description of the lentil above
the garage door.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Yeah, so lenttal, it's basically just it's a still beam
holding that brick and uh, it's typically a piece of
angle iron.
Speaker 9 (02:58):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
What's fascinating is this is probably about the most common
problem that no one's heard of.
Speaker 10 (03:05):
But if you have a.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Break home, I would encourage you to go out take
a look around that brick. If you see any cracking,
if you see any sagging in the center, what's going
on is that lentil is failing. And the reason it's
such a big problem is because it typically is not
covered by anything in code, so that that brick isn't
(03:26):
really considered structural when that home is built. So a
lot of times you can have a home that's built
and lintl that was put in place and it just
simply wasn't grated to hold the weight of that brick.
Speaker 8 (03:38):
So what do you do to fix it? Then? I mean,
you got a piece of steel that's sagging.
Speaker 7 (03:43):
There, You got the boards of the structure, you know,
the header sagging.
Speaker 8 (03:50):
Yeah, sounds like a nightmare.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
It is. It can be a very big nightmare. And
a reason I get excited every day is because we
have such a great solution that that is that is
new and superior to that traditional repair. Traditionally, what you
would do is almost a full tear out of that
wall and so you have a brick mason come out. Uh,
you're you're not going to find new brick that matches.
(04:15):
So what they're going to have to do is spend
a week in your driveway removing brick, chiseling, mortar, making
a mess, and they rebuild a structure basically, and traditionally
that's been the way you go about repairing this. Our
system is a system that goes in in six hours.
And we basically took a little engineering and we took
(04:38):
your your standard lintel and we looked at it and
we thought, well, what can we do to rather than
removing anything from that structure, what can we do to
add to it to shore up that that lennel that's
currently in place. So we don't even remove that lennel
that's there, but what we do is we take our lennel,
which is a little larger, it's three eight stick rather
than a quarter inch. It's got unequal aim. So rather
(05:00):
than three by three or a four by four, it's
a four by six, which yields more strength. But the
clever part comes into play where the linnels that we
use in our patented system, we put through a large
roller that cambers that beam. So there's about an inch
bend in that beam. And you can imagine a sagging level.
(05:20):
I'm sure you've seen them plenty, but they almost smile
at you. Yeah, pulling your driveway in that garage. It's
sagging in the middle, it's dipping, its smiling, it's taunting you, saying, hey,
I'm broke. Our system is a frown. When it goes
in and the top of our frown meets the bottom
of that garage is smile And it sits on top
of some columns that are installed on the side with
(05:42):
some jackscrews attached to them, and we actually lift that
thing up. And what's going on is the linnel that
we've put in because of that bend in its steel,
it likes to return to its resting point basically, so
that wall lifts day up, but it continues pushing upward
for about six weeks until all that weight has really
(06:03):
been evenly distributed and it's coming back down, rather than
all that weight coming directly down in the center of
your garage opening causing aesthetic problems, causing a problem that
ends up turning into a safety issue. All that weight
redistributes through the columns back down into the foundation and
it's a quick six hours in and out clean install.
Speaker 7 (06:23):
So with having to put that much bigger piece of
steel in there, Am I losing a bunch of my opening?
Speaker 5 (06:32):
You're not so at the top, you're actually when our
system goes in, it ends up coming in flush with
the gasket around the garage opening. Now on the sides,
because we are not removing from the structure, we're adding
to it. Logically, yes, you're you're gonna lose space, and
that's understandably an objection to homeowner might have. What we
(06:53):
tell folks is it's about two inches of total space
that you're gonna lose about an inch on each side.
The truly not usable they you know, I hope when
you pull into your garage you're clearing it by more
than an inch already as is. But it goes into
place and what a lot of our customers have found
is after the fact, not only are they not losing
(07:14):
sleep over that it beat that alternative of what their
option was to pay, you know, sometimes upwards of double
what our system is for traditional repair. But in addition
to that, they're not losing sleep over the space. But
they love the trim that we put in because we
trim out our system to hide it. Obviously, you know,
we don't want our system showing on your home. But
(07:36):
we use a very very nice it's an ASA grade
vinyl that goes in. It looks fantastic, paintable, so it
can be customized to look any way you want to
match your home, and a lot of times the homeowners
end up more thrilled with just how the garage ends
up looking, just as much as they're excited about the
structure being repaired.
Speaker 7 (07:57):
So kind of a side question on this because I
had a call earlier in the day when I did
the Dallas Show that they were turning a two car
garage door into a single, going to do away with
the post in the middle. The old lintel went all
the way across already. But you know, my big concern
(08:18):
is going to be, yeah, it's had that post there
all this time helping with the support, it's more likely
going to sag and you got to check make sure the.
Speaker 8 (08:26):
Header goes all the way across.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
But right this, this sounds like it could be something
that they could do as added support to keep from
having a problem with it when they open it up
for a double cardgoor door.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Oh yes, yep, and it's actually been used. We've used
it for that purpose in the past. The main thing
in that situation, you know, we come out, we do
our due diligence to check things out. But yep, if
there's a single header running across the back of that,
we can pretty well know that our system is going
to be able to be utilized for that to extend
out a two door garage into one single large space.
(09:05):
In fact, we haven't been in Texas long and then
that's that's something we've come to find very quickly. Is
there there are a lot of homes out there where
folks are very interested in that. So that's something we're
happy to come out and take a look at as well,
because that can end up being kind of the same
same deal as our primary purpose of the product. It's
just a simple solution that comes in far more cost
(09:26):
effective than the traditional way you'd go about doing that.
Speaker 10 (09:30):
Oh.
Speaker 7 (09:31):
Absolutely, So if somebody's wanting to get lintal lift put
in uh to get that sag out of the door
header above the garage door, how do they get in
touch with you?
Speaker 5 (09:44):
So they just need to give us a call. Feel
free to check out little Lift dot Com anytime. To
remember to get our phone number, but you can catch
us toll free. It's eight three three nine oh three
two two two six. Again you can see that there
at lintlelift dot Com. We're gonna talk to you. We're
gonna set a time, we're gonna come out do again
(10:04):
our due diligence, check things out, confirm the problem, and
really educate the homeowner as to what happened, why it happened,
and what their options are.
Speaker 9 (10:12):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
And it's a no obligation inspection. We're going to quote
you that day and get you set up to get
that thing permanently repaired and uh fix for good.
Speaker 7 (10:22):
Well that sounds great. I appreciate you calling in today, Derek.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 8 (10:28):
You bet you take care you too.
Speaker 7 (10:30):
By think and again that's lental Lift eight three three
nine zero three two two two six, or you can
go to thchipro dot com and click on the link
for lenttal Lift. All right, why don't we get ready
and head into some calls here at seven one three,
two one two five eight seven four. We're gonna head
(10:52):
to the west side.
Speaker 8 (10:54):
Steve. This is Jim. How can I help you?
Speaker 11 (10:57):
Yeah, I have a question. I have a back door
patio door that needs to be replaced, and one side
of it is a fixed panel. It's kind of like
a French door, but one panel is fixed, the other
it's just a regular swing end door. And I'm trying
to decide whether we should go with vinyl or a
fiberglass or I don't really think I need to go
(11:19):
with a steel, And I was wondering which would be better,
because I know ub can destroy you vinyl as well
as damage fiberglass. But it is under a patio so
it does have some shade. So I guess my next
question is is what does what do you recommend? Who
(11:40):
do you recommend and what would a cost of something
like that to be replaced installed?
Speaker 7 (11:46):
Well, I guess one question I have for you before
we go down that road is why do you say
you don't want to look at steel.
Speaker 11 (11:56):
Just rust things like that, we get rained and so forth,
and it's does it completely cover the entire tatio. I mean,
I'm gonna get soun in the morning. I'm gonna get
sun on the evening.
Speaker 8 (12:06):
Okay. I will tell you.
Speaker 7 (12:08):
I've got a steel patio door on the back of
my house. It has been there for twenty one twenty
coming up on twenty two years now pretty soon, and
yet to see any rust on it. The doors themselves
hold up extremely well. But Steve, I'm gonna put you
on hold. I'll come back to you here right after
(12:29):
this break. Let's talk about lenttal lift real quick.
Speaker 8 (12:32):
You just heard us on with Derek. There.
Speaker 7 (12:35):
Look, if you're needing the overhead garage door taken care of,
not the door itself, but the frame of the door.
You know it's sagging in the middle. When you pull
up and you look at across the squares of your
overhead door and you see in the middle it's closer
to the squares than it is on the edges.
Speaker 8 (12:56):
It's sagging.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
And if you've got a second floor up there, it's
probably causing sheet rock cracks. If you got brick veneer
on the outside, it's probably causing brick cracks. Call Lental
Lift and get it taken care of. You can call
them at eight three to three nine zero three.
Speaker 8 (13:15):
Two two two six.
Speaker 7 (13:16):
That's eight three three nine zero three two two two six.
They'll come in with that new bean. Jack it up,
trim it out. It looks gorgeous and it's permanent. It
comes with a lifetime guarantee. Again, it's Lental Lift.
Speaker 12 (13:31):

Speaker 7 (14:02):
You know I've been telling you about the new coolant
systems and how much more expensive air conditioning systems are
going to be after the first of the year, and
we've been installing at due West air conditioning systems before
the end of the year to help you save money.
But rapidly those systems are disappearing. So if you want
to take advantage of the lower cost systems, they're still
(14:24):
going to cool just as well and reduce your energy bills,
but you don't have the added cost of the new
federal regulations. Call due West and take advantage of those
lower cost systems before the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
When Jim Dutton of Texas Home Improvement recommends a company,
he won't steer you wrong, and he recommends Guardian roof Systems.
Speaker 8 (14:45):

Speaker 7 (14:46):

Speaker 6 (14:49):
Man?
Speaker 13 (14:49):
I did call you last week about timneycat Fleek and
I've had somebody come out and basically they.
Speaker 10 (14:55):
Ripped me off.
Speaker 13 (14:56):
You recommended. I called Guardian Roofing. I did call the
The technician came out out. He was on time, he's courteous.
He said, yep, they've used the wrong type of sealment.
So he cleaned it and resealed it and manage that
did it. Kudos to you for recommending Guardian, and kudos
to Guardian for doing a polite, pleasant good.
Speaker 10 (15:15):
Job for me.
Speaker 13 (15:15):
I really really appreciate that, and thank you so much
you've met take care of Guardian.
Speaker 1 (15:20):

Speaker 14 (15:47):
Home improvement expert for the lone Star State. Here's Jim
Dunton on Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Seven one three
two one two five eight seven four. That's seven one
three two one two five eight seven four.
Speaker 8 (16:06):
Again.
Speaker 7 (16:06):
Any home improvement question you have, feel free to pick
up the phone, give me a call and see what
we can do to help you out here on Texas
ow Improvement. When we left, I was talking with Steve,
and uh, Steve there.
Speaker 11 (16:18):
Still yes, sir?
Speaker 8 (16:20):
Okay, uh go ahead.
Speaker 7 (16:22):
And just for people who are just tuning in, go
ahead and ask your question again.
Speaker 11 (16:28):
Okay. So I'm looking to replace a back patio door.
It's kind of a French style type, but one panel
was fixed with small windows I think fifteen windows, and
the other side is the door that swings in and
I have a patio in the back patio, so it
does get some shade, but I get sun in the morning,
(16:50):
sun in the evening. And I'm deciding, trying to decide
whether i want to put in a vinyl door a
fiberglass door, and I'm not opting out for steel door
if i think it's feasible, right, And I'm wondering as
to who do you recommend and what do you think
the cost of whatever door would be the cost to
(17:10):
install it as well.
Speaker 7 (17:13):
Well, you can go with either of the doors, you know,
the vinyl, the fiberglass, the wood.
Speaker 8 (17:20):
You know.
Speaker 7 (17:21):
Like I said, I've had a steel door and it's
not a high end steel door that I've got, It's
just one of the truthfully, I got it at the
box stores twenty two years ago and it's held up
just fine. As far as the other choices, any of
them will hold up as long as you keep them
(17:43):
protected from the sun. Does rain play a factor, absolutely,
but the bigger factor is the sun beating on them.
So the one I have at my house, that's the
steel door, the sun beats on it constantly. Yeah, I
have no cover over that area, and so it does
(18:06):
take a beating. Vinyl and fiberglass tend to not probably.
Speaker 8 (18:12):
Do quite as well as the steel.
Speaker 7 (18:14):
When the sun is beating on them the rain. Like
I say, all of them are going to do fine
as far as somebody to talk to that can put
it in. Give the folks over at Southern Front Doors
a call and you know they'll give you all the
options and the pricing. You're going to find that traditionally,
a standard steel door is probably going to be a
(18:35):
little less expensive than some of the other options. But
as far as the cost, it's all over the place.
It's really going to depend on the door that you choose,
but you are probably to replace a door like that.
Are going to start at two thousand and go up
(18:56):
from there.
Speaker 11 (19:00):
I did have one contract to come out and take
a look at it. He recommended the Vinyl and he
wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of thirty five thousand dollars,
and I just thought that was absolutely out. Thirty five thousand,
and this is a well known company, and they were
giving me a forty percent discount, and I just thought,
this guy's literally out of his mind, and he wasted
(19:22):
my time. So I kind of wasted his time listening
to him for almost two hours.
Speaker 8 (19:27):
And nine to replace the door is outrageous.
Speaker 7 (19:31):
It better have gold handles some stuff on it for
that kind of money.
Speaker 11 (19:36):
Yes, and I figured I was just supporting his four'
one or something. I don't know, but that was just
absolutely insane.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
Look, I will tell you upfront, I probably got a
pretty good idea who that was, what type of doors
it was. And their initial thing is they'll come in
with that outrageous cost and then they start trying to
price drop on you, and before they give up, they
(20:04):
will drop forty percent in a heartbeat, and sometimes even
as much as sixty percent. They're just trying to see
typically how much they can get. But yeah, that's not definitely.
Speaker 8 (20:19):
Not the direction. I would go.
Speaker 7 (20:21):
Give the guys at Southern Front Doors a call and
you can reach them at two eight one eight nine
zero fifty eight sixty and uh they will they will
definitely take better.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
Care of you.
Speaker 11 (20:37):
Okay, Southern Front Doors, YEP and windows. Okay, I appreciate
it very much, Thank you, sir.
Speaker 8 (20:42):
You bet you take care loll Mike.
Speaker 7 (20:47):
And again our number seven one three two one two
five eight seven four. That's seven one three two one
two five eight seven four. Carol, I'm not going to
jump on with you because I know I'm gonna have
to take a break here in just one minute. So
if you will hold on, you will be first when
we come back after news, traffic and weather and whoever
else calls. It's seven one, three, two point two five eight,
(21:10):
seven four. We're here to take calls, answer questions, and
sometimes even laugh at contractors at the stupid prices they
put out. I guess when when you hear numbers like that.
But uh, look, you know, the unfortunate thing is a
lot of companies are taking the stance nowadays that oh, yeah,
well we'll just shoot high if they take it, great,
(21:32):
If not, we'll we'll drop our price until they.
Speaker 8 (21:35):
Do take it. And that's not the way to do business.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
Can Can you get discounts on stuff?
Speaker 8 (21:42):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (21:42):
But I mean, realistically, if if somebody's going over, really,
if they're going over ten percent on a discount, it
could better be a darn good reason.
Speaker 8 (21:55):
I'll leave it at that.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Hey, let's talk real quickly about American Standard heating and
air conditioning. American Standard had been my choice in air
conditioners for years. I put one in my house in
nineteen ninety nine. Loved it and I have been using
them in my home ever since. They are nationally recognized
for excellence for performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. So you
(22:21):
truly can take care of your family all year long
with American Standard Air now American Standard Technology. It meets
the ever changing Texas weather and you know what I'm
talking about. We're getting ready to go through that time
where we're gonna have a front coming through. Temperature is
gonna drop, it's gonna switch from cooling to heating, and
then the next day it's gonna go back to heating.
And we sometimes make that switch four times in a
(22:43):
day in Texas. We'll keep your home cool and humidity
for you or be ready for a little heat when.
Speaker 8 (22:48):
You need it.
Speaker 7 (22:49):
Invest wisely and invest in the home comfort system that
will last you a long, long time comfort the way
you like it. American Standardair dot com.
Speaker 14 (23:11):
If it ain't broke, fix it anyway. You're with Jim
Dutton Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 7 (23:19):
Welcome back to Texas How Improvement seven one three, two,
one two five eight seven four And as promised, Carol,
how can I help you today?
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Uh?
Speaker 15 (23:31):
Yes, Sarah, Thanks Jim for taking my.
Speaker 8 (23:33):
Call, my pleasure.
Speaker 15 (23:35):
I have, uh, I have a I believe it's a
tough shed shed that it's two story, is twelve by
twelve by sixteen, and I converted that into a tiny house.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
Okay.
Speaker 15 (23:49):
And the problem I'm having, and I think I know
the answer, But the problem I'm having is humidity. I
have a dehumidifier in there that has to be emptied regularly,
and I'm noticing a smell in there. Now I'm thinking
I probably have to take the siding off and put
tigex around it.
Speaker 8 (24:08):
And then you should me an email question.
Speaker 7 (24:11):
I did. Yes, I saw it. I saw it just
before we started the show. So let me ask you
a question here. And I'm glad you called because when
I read it, I had a lot more questions than
I was getting into the email. Are you running the
air conditioner all the time or just part of the time.
Speaker 15 (24:31):
No, I have it on it cycles. I've got it
set at probably seventy six out there though, okay, but
it it does kick on in cycle.
Speaker 8 (24:40):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
And with that, you're still getting high humidity, so the
dehumidifier is still pulling a lot of moisture out of
the air. Yes, sir, what is the air conditioner that
you have in there? Is it a central system or
a window unit, a mini.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Splits one of those, Yeah, it's a split.
Speaker 15 (25:00):
You put it on the wall. Yeah, that's what I had.
Speaker 8 (25:04):
Okay, So I don't think you need to pull the
siding off.
Speaker 15 (25:11):
Oh thank you.
Speaker 8 (25:13):
The TIEVEX not gonna.
Speaker 7 (25:15):
What TIEVEK does and wraps like that do is if
moisture comes in, yes, it keeps it from getting into
the insulation and all that kind of stuff. It does
protect it. But before you start doing that, what I
would suggest is you get a scope and look in
(25:36):
those walls and see if there's moisture in the insulation.
What I am suspecting has happened is during the time
period before you had air conditioning in and you probably
had the insulation and stuff in there, it got a
lot of humidity into it.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
Well.
Speaker 15 (25:56):
When I redid I added a bathroom to it, and
I took off sheet rock, and you know, did the
bats by how the shower, and then at several places,
like when I put that air conditioning conditioning unit in it,
I had to take all of that out too. I
did not notice a bit of moisture on the insulation
or anything that could be in a wall.
Speaker 7 (26:18):
I didn't get to well, no, but you're answering the
question that I had on it, because what I'm thinking
happened is just over time before air conditioning was in it,
it got a lot of humidity into it, and it's
got the odor probably into the insulation and stuff I see,
And so that's what you're smelling when you're going in it.
Speaker 8 (26:40):
Now.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
The fact that you've got a dhumidifier keeping it dehumidified,
I'm kind of questioning where's the humidity level coming from,
and it very well could be coming from the ground up.
How high off the ground is this?
Speaker 15 (26:55):
Oh, I would say.
Speaker 6 (26:59):
Maybe.
Speaker 15 (26:59):
I mean it's on those metal right block, you know
how they do. It's got a metal frame on the ground.
Speaker 8 (27:07):
Do you have a skirt around it?
Speaker 15 (27:10):
The metal is?
Speaker 16 (27:11):
Uh?
Speaker 15 (27:12):
Is what the skirt is?
Speaker 6 (27:14):
I mean?
Speaker 7 (27:15):
But I guess what I'm asking is can you see
underneath it? Or or have is it blocked where you
can't see?
Speaker 15 (27:22):
Only on one spot back in the where the ground
floats a little bit, there's a spot where I can
I can see underneath if I get down on my
hands and knees.
Speaker 7 (27:31):
Okay, that's where your moisture is coming from. Oh, it's
it's got to it's got to have ventilation underneath it,
because the soil itself gives off a huge amount of
moisture and that's going to be adding to the odor
as well. And so what I would tell you is
(27:52):
you probably got a choice of doing a couple of
things here. One, if you can open it up to
where you can get airflow underneath there, that will probably
fix the problem.
Speaker 8 (28:01):
If not, it's not that big.
Speaker 7 (28:03):
A deal to take and lift one of those uh
and get it up off the ground a little bit
to get rid of that problem.
Speaker 15 (28:15):
I'm just sit If I can raise it up and
put it on blocks or something, yep, so that the
air flow underneath yep. That's a thought, okay.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
And that will more than likely fix two items that'll
probably take care take care of the odor and the humidity.
Speaker 15 (28:33):
How can I do that with all the plumbing already
in play?
Speaker 7 (28:36):
They you just unhooked the plumbing and you raise it
up and hook it back up add to it. It's
really not that big a deal.
Speaker 15 (28:44):
Okay, Okay, I did not think about that. But if
that keeps me from having to tear sheet rock off
and replace insulation.
Speaker 8 (28:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (28:55):
Now, if you ever redo the siding, make sure you
get tie vek behind it. But I wouldn't tear all
the siding off.
Speaker 8 (29:01):
To do that.
Speaker 15 (29:03):
Okay, Okay, We'll.
Speaker 7 (29:05):
Just make sure you keep a good a good coating
on the outside too, you know, so that moisture doesn't
get into the wood and travel into it.
Speaker 15 (29:13):
Yeah, yes, okay, Well that that sounds like an easier
solution than what I was dreaming of. Okay, well, thank
you so much, really welcome a try yep, take care okay,
thank you, bye bye, and.
Speaker 7 (29:29):
Again our number seven one three two one two, five
eight seven four. Let's head over to bel Air, Deborah.
Speaker 8 (29:37):
This is Jim. How can I help you?
Speaker 7 (29:41):
Let's see?
Speaker 17 (29:41):
What is it more afternoon?
Speaker 8 (29:43):
It is afternoon.
Speaker 17 (29:46):
I'm calling because I have automatic timers on my front
yard lighting and my garage and I want to.
Speaker 10 (29:55):
Know this is daylight saving time.
Speaker 17 (29:56):
I just had it put in. I'd like to know
if you have any idea as to what the time
should be in the spring versus the fall to turn on.
Speaker 7 (30:08):
Well, if you want on when it gets dark starting
to starting tomorrow, it's going to be dark by five.
Speaker 17 (30:15):
Thirty Okay, so that would be like the fall, five thirty.
Speaker 8 (30:19):
Start yep, yep, and turn.
Speaker 17 (30:22):
Off for five thirty would be in what time in
the morning.
Speaker 7 (30:26):
Oh, we're probably going to have sunlight, probably around six thirty. Yeah,
probably around six thirty tomorrow.
Speaker 17 (30:36):
Okay, so that would be six thirty eight. M Now
what do I do for the spring?
Speaker 2 (30:41):
What do you think?
Speaker 7 (30:42):
Well, for the spring, you know you're going to move
it an hour, but what happens is the days get
longer and shorter. So it starts in the spring at
six thirty, but by the time we get into the
middle of summer.
Speaker 8 (30:53):
It's eight thirty before it gets dark.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
So you kind of have to adjust them periodically as
the as the year goes on, Earth, as the cycle
goes on. And I'm sorry, I'm gonna put you on
hold because that music meant I gotta take a break
and I'll come right back to you. Uh, let's talk
about Texas Remodel teams window division, because you know Texas
Remodel Team, they've been part of the show here for

and they find that there's rotten wood or anything like that, Oh,
you're gonna have to get somebody in here to fix that.
Texas Remodel Team they take care of it themselves because
(31:39):
they are remodelers. They got it all taken care of.
And that includes if you're looking at doing a sunroom
or something, they can put in the sunroom out of
the windows as well. So you got a gorgeous patio
cover you like, you want to make it into a
sunroom called Texas Remodel Teams Window Division two eight one
six ' one two nine ninety one.
Speaker 1 (32:04):

Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Your total home
improvement source seven one three two one two five eight
seven four. Any home improvement question you have seven one
three two one two five eight seven four. We were
talking with Deborah when we left, and Deborah, I'm sorry
(34:37):
you had another question going.
Speaker 17 (34:40):
So this is one to be a lazy said it
and forget it. So right now in the uh spring,
I had it coming on at seven fifteen, don't remember
turn off, but seventeen is kind of working just fine
for now until now we're in the fall. So you
did for around five point thirty, Uh, would be okay
(35:01):
for the fall. And what time you think turn.
Speaker 19 (35:05):
It back off?
Speaker 8 (35:08):
Six thirty in the morning.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Okay, got it.
Speaker 17 (35:10):
So that's what I'm gonna so turn it back off
at six thirty in the morning. I turn it off
in the spring at seven fifteen, and I'm gonna verify
one time. I'm sorry, I turn it on in seven fifteen,
and I'm going to verify what time I'm turning it off.
But that's working fine. Just one of the general that's
what I was. Sure, Yeah, yeah, yeah, So that way
(35:33):
out of it.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
Thank you so very much.
Speaker 8 (35:35):
Here, you're welcome, Deborah.
Speaker 9 (35:37):
All right, all right.

seven four, we're gonna head out to Brazoria and Beverly.
Speaker 8 (35:52):
How can I help you today?
Speaker 19 (35:54):
Yes, hi, Kim, I listen to your show. It's been
probably four or five years since I called in, and
we're finally getting around to the project. I called in
about that time, but I wanted to check and see
who you might recommend for window replacement. We have a
place down in Brazoria on the San Bernard River. We've
got thirty three windows, twenty nine or double hung and
(36:18):
four sliders and they're all old, original aluminum windows with
storm windows on the outside, and they all I can't
open any of them, so I need new windows.
Speaker 7 (36:30):
Okay, give Texas Remodel team a call, okay, at two
weeks more.
Speaker 19 (36:37):
They are they on your website? Okay, yep, okay, Well
that answers my question. You had given me a name before,
but you know, slept since then and I can't remember
who it was.
Speaker 6 (36:52):
So yeah, Texas on.
Speaker 7 (36:54):
Remodel okay, Texas Remodel Team.
Speaker 19 (36:57):
And they will go to Brazoria.

and sun rooms and stuff like that. You can reach
them at two eight one six one two fifty nine
ninety one. And let's see here again our number seven
one three two one two five eight seven four seven
one three two one two five eight seven four. Any
(37:37):
home improvement question you have, pick up the phone, give
me a call. We'll talk about it here on Texas
Home Improvement and see what we can do to get
you taken care of. We're gonna head up to Conroe
and Mark.
Speaker 8 (37:48):
This is gim. How can I help you?
Speaker 20 (37:51):
Yes, sir, Yeah, I have a a patio clever that
I added to my home and uh just kind of
attached to the eve and comes out with exposed rat
after type of situation on the underside and then metal
roofing on the top and then I put some I
guess like a t one eleven is what I know
it as siding on the bottom side of the metal,
(38:12):
so you know, more of an aesthetic look. So you're
looking not looking at a metal roof from underside right
and the white h and I've painted it as kind
of a light colored cream on the underside, and I
continue to get a black type of moldy kind of
something on the on the uh, on the on the
wood rafters and the T one eleven and I painted
(38:34):
every year, every other year, and it just continues to
get this black uh look to it. I can put
bleach on it and it seems to take it down
a little bit, but never gets rid of it completely.
And I've tried quality pain uh, you know, different types
of paints, and it just continues to come back with
this black kind of yeah, like a moldy type of thing.
Speaker 7 (38:57):
Yeah, and it's always in the same spots, right, yeah.
Speaker 20 (39:01):
I mean it pretty much covers it all eventually. At
first I thought it was maybe a ventilation problem between
the I put one by four separating the underside siding
to the metal roof, so it's not metal roofs straight
to the wood. So I thought maybe it's a ventilation
and just getting moisture in between there. So I opened
(39:21):
up the sides to get some ventilation. But it's even
on the two by sixes that come down as my
exposed rafters. It's even on those two which wouldn't be
a moisture thing. I wouldn't think between the metal and
the and the siding.
Speaker 7 (39:36):
Well, it actually could be, because what I'm thinking is
happening is that dead air space that's in there.
Speaker 8 (39:44):
Is probably sweating, right and when.
Speaker 7 (39:49):
It sweats, the water starts dropping down, it gets on
the wood and that's where you get in the black
mold growing.
Speaker 8 (39:57):
Okay, And so.
Speaker 7 (40:01):
You got a couple of ways you can fix it.
None of them are going to be real simple, since
it's already put together. One of them would be too
literally take that wood off and put some either radiant
barrier or insulation up in there to control it, and
(40:23):
that would definitely help with it. Now, I don't know
one hundred percent that this would take care of it,
but you mentioned it's got a metal roof on it,
and one thing that I think would probably fix it
without you having to take it all apart, would be
to put a coating on that metal roof. They make
(40:45):
a lot of coatings now that have UV reflection and
it will actually keep the metal from sweating that way.
And so by putting that on there, you could avoid
the problem. But I don't know what you have up
there for metal. If it's already colored, you probably.
Speaker 8 (41:02):
Don't want to, you know, go through it that it's.
Speaker 20 (41:06):
A white, It was a you know, a white. Uh
what do you call it?
Speaker 8 (41:09):
The rid standing scene?
Speaker 20 (41:12):
Yeah, uh huh yeah, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 7 (41:14):
I'm gonna ask you to hold on a second, let
me come back to you and uh, we'll talk about
that here in just a second. But let's talk real
quick about Texas Remodel Team's window division. If you are
looking for uh, replacement windows for your home, if you're
looking to build a sunroom in the back of your home,
(41:34):
and like Mark, he's got this gorgeous patio, maybe he
wants to turn it into a sunroom that he can
heat and cool. That actually would probably fix his problem
with the the moisture as well. But Texas Remodel Team
they can do all that for you. So a simple
phone call to two eight one six one two fifty
nine ninety one, they'll come out give you a free consultation.
(41:57):
Go over things with you and you can get it
to taking care of, whether it's replacement windows or a sunroom.

When Jim Dutton of Texas Home Improvement recommends a company,
he won't steer you wrong, and he recommends Guardian roof Systems.
Speaker 7 (42:22):
I said down to Leak City, Hello jd Hey Jim,
how you doing that?
Speaker 21 (42:26):
Man?
Speaker 13 (42:26):
I did call you last week about a timnicat fleek
and I've had somebody come out and basically they ripped
me off.
Speaker 10 (42:33):
You recommended I called Guardian Roofing. I did call them.
Speaker 13 (42:36):
The technician came out, he was on time, he's courteous.
He said, yep, they've used the wrong type of sealant.
So he cleaned it and resealed it and managed.
Speaker 6 (42:45):
That did it.
Speaker 13 (42:46):
Kudos to you for recommending Guardian, and kudos to Guardian
for doing a polite, pleasant good.
Speaker 10 (42:52):
Job for me.
Speaker 13 (42:53):
I really really appreciate that, and thank you so much.
Speaker 8 (42:56):
You got to take care of Guardian roof Systems.

Speaker 7 (43:15):
You know you've heard me talk about USA Installation four
years long before they were sponsors on the show. And
why because I love the product and what it does.
It's proprietary, non expansive PHAM. They can inject right into
the walls of your existing home. You get the best
R value. It has a great fire rating and cancels
(43:36):
up to eighty percent of the noise from outside as well. Now,
I had this done to my home a couple months ago.
Speaker 8 (43:42):
Love it.
Speaker 7 (43:43):
Not only did it make it a lot quieter inside,
but the comfort level is so much better. So if
you're thinking about making your house more energy efficient, you
need to take a look at USA Insulation. Now, I
want you to also understand if you're in an old,
older home that was built in the sixties or earlier,
you probably have no insulation in your walls. This would
(44:05):
be a huge game changer for you. If you have
a house that was built just two years ago and
it's got fiberglass in the walls. Thisx is almost double
the insulating factor eight three two three seven six sixty
eight sixty five for USA Insulation.
Speaker 14 (44:29):
There ain't nothing you don't know about home improvement, stinking
smart air. Like here's Jim Dutton on Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 7 (44:39):
Welcome back to Texas Home Improvement. Your total home improvement
sour seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
I was talking with Mark when we left, and Mark,
this metal roof that you have, is it uh got
a lot of slope to it? Or is it not so?
Not so much slope.
Speaker 20 (44:57):
It's probably a Yeah, it's definitely got plenty of slope.
It's it's not a great amount, but it's definitely uh yeah,
I got a decent slope to it.
Speaker 7 (45:06):
Well, the reason I'm asking is, you know, in doing
that USA Insulation spot there, you know that's a product
that they could drill some holes into that wood and
possibly inject into that so you don't have to take
anything apart. But it would have to have a pretty
fair amount of slope to it to do that.
Speaker 20 (45:25):
Okay, Yeah, it's got a decent amount of slope. I mean,
it's definitely a visible slope. When you're looking at from
the side, you can see a good slope. I don't
know what the pitch angle is, but.
Speaker 7 (45:34):
Okay, but this is kind of just sloping from the
house out. It's not a peak slope. Okay, yeah, they
I don't think they'd be able to do it. Then
if it was a peaked slope, then they could could
take a look at doing that. So, uh so we're
back to probably having to take the boards down insulated
or radium barrier or like I was saying, that coating
(45:55):
on the top, you know, I know you got a white,
but that coating typically is white and it would seal
the gaps and stuff as well. So I think that
would be where I would start.
Speaker 5 (46:09):
And how does it apply?
Speaker 7 (46:10):
Is it a roll on or you can roll it
on or most of the time it's rolled on, but
you can spray it on as well.
Speaker 8 (46:16):
But it's it's very easy to apply.
Speaker 20 (46:19):
Okay, do you know the name of it? Would I
be looking for?
Speaker 7 (46:23):
You can get a roofing supply stores and it's just
a metal roof coating.
Speaker 20 (46:28):
Okay, perfect, take care sounds good. I appreciate it. Thank you.
Speaker 7 (46:33):

Charles?
Speaker 8 (49:48):
Yes, hey, how can I help you as well?
Speaker 3 (49:53):
During the hurt? Hey, I here's well, I had many
many cedar trees that now I took them to a
saw mill and had them do those trees and tunny
and grew. I was going to do rude joy room
in the egg and it had room joy, But some
of the cedar pieces are under two feet and I
(50:14):
was wondering how what would I put as a sub
wall to uh, And how would I attach those cedar
tunning grooves to that wall?
Speaker 7 (50:25):
Well, you would just have to run another stud in
there or you know, uh to attach it to. Or
you can put plywood on the whole wall and then
you can attach anywhere you want.
Speaker 3 (50:38):
Oh good? What what what thickness plwood would I have
to use? Keep it from being waiting?
Speaker 16 (50:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (50:44):
You you know you the plywood you could probably get
away with a half inch, But to make it nice
and stiff and make that wall look like it should,
you'll probably want to go with a three quarter.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
Genus os insteader of the.
Speaker 7 (51:03):
Boards that you thought would absolutely Okay, all right, well
that's what I need to know.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
I appreciate your health.
Speaker 8 (51:11):
You bet you take care?
Speaker 3 (51:12):
Thank you right.
Speaker 8 (51:16):
Again?
Speaker 7 (51:16):
Our number seven one three two one two five eight
seven four in a head out to Magnolia Wiley's how
are you today?
Speaker 3 (51:28):
I'm alive?
Speaker 8 (51:29):
And well, well, how can I help you?
Speaker 3 (51:34):
I made the I want to split air conditioner system.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
I'm wanting the good and the bad for it. And
who would install them in Houston?
Speaker 7 (51:43):
Well, the good is are typically more energy efficient than
a regular AC system. The bad is if you've got
a lot of rooms, then you got a lot of
units at head units that's you got to put in,
and that can it can get kind of pricey. But
(52:04):
you know, if you've got a lot of big rooms,
you can put ventilation that will move air from one
room to another with these things.
Speaker 8 (52:12):
So they're.
Speaker 7 (52:15):
They're a lot more forgiving than people give them credit for,
you know, and it really you just have to look
at what you're putting it in. Is it new construction
or retrofit?
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Oh, it's a forty fifty year old home, Okay, so yeah,
absolutely it can.
Speaker 8 (52:38):
They can be put in.
Speaker 7 (52:39):
I own an air conditioning between my kitchen uh huh.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
And my living area is probably a thousand at least
a thousand square feet, just one big open area.
Speaker 8 (52:51):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (52:53):
Then those mini splits are really great for that kind
of setup. And you can have just one outside unit
and run you know, eight, ten, twelve units inside.
Speaker 8 (53:05):
So they work very well.
Speaker 10 (53:10):
How fortune you run them?
Speaker 7 (53:12):
Uh most of them you can get up to two
hundred feet.
Speaker 8 (53:21):
Huh on the like sets.
Speaker 7 (53:25):
So it depends on the on the unit that you
know that you're getting the brand and all that stuff.
But you know, as far as a company that can
do it.
Speaker 9 (53:33):
You know.
Speaker 7 (53:34):
I own an air conditioning company, do West air Conditioning,
and we do them virtually every day. Okay, and that's
what pumbe number seven one three four, seven three seven
one five six.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
Okay, then they can tell me what beat you you
and all of that to go in.
Speaker 8 (53:58):
Yep, yeah, they'll go.
Speaker 7 (54:00):
What they have to do is come out and they'll
do the load calculations, uh, you know, the heat load,
and then they can design the system around that.
Speaker 8 (54:10):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
If then go to hundred foot, then I can go
one side of the house to the other.
Speaker 8 (54:14):
Yes, sir, oh okay, I'll think.
Speaker 2 (54:20):
You've answered all my questions.
Speaker 10 (54:21):
I'll give them a call on Monday.
Speaker 8 (54:23):
Alrighty you take care.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
Thank you very much, bye.
Speaker 7 (54:29):
And again seven one three two one two five eight
seven four. And there are several different brands of mini
splits available out there.
Speaker 19 (54:40):
You know.
Speaker 7 (54:40):
In my personal house, I have one unit outside and
I have two cassette units inside. One is doing a
big room upstairs and the other one is doing my
UH patio sunroom and UH works works great so and
some of them you can have h you know, depending
(55:01):
on the unit you put in, you can have heat
going in one room and cool air going in another room. Uh,
but again it depends on the units that you install.
But the nice thing is every single room that you
have the cassettes in can have a different temperature, so
it really helps you to control your energy costs that way.
Speaker 8 (55:24):
All right?
Speaker 7 (55:25):
Seven one three, two one two five eight seven four
Danielle or daniel I'm sorry, how can I help you?
Speaker 3 (55:33):
Yeah? I was wondering, Uh, who do you recommend for
underslab leak detection?
Speaker 8 (55:42):
Is it sewer or water?
Speaker 7 (55:45):
Most of our water lines are overhead in Houston, But okay,
for sewer, call du West Total Plumbing.
Speaker 8 (55:53):
And you can reach us. Again.
Speaker 7 (55:55):
It's seven one three four seven three seven one five six.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
Okay, all right, I appreciate that. Say you as well?
Speaker 8 (56:07):
You got cast iron?
Speaker 6 (56:10):
Yes, sir, yep?
Speaker 8 (56:11):
Okay, all right, thank you, take care.
Speaker 20 (56:15):
All right.
Speaker 7 (56:17):
Look, and I'm gonna tell everybody this upfront. If you've
got cast iron, you got you're on borrowed time. The
cast iron systems, they they have deteriorated, they live their
their life cycle and they're having to be replaced. I
would not unless it's just a single isolated fix that
(56:40):
is easily accessed. I would not recommend doing a bunch
of spot repairs on cast iron because tomorrow you can
have another leak.
Speaker 8 (56:53):
And we have had.
Speaker 7 (56:55):
Issues in the in the past with cast iron pipes.
You know the h it looks like you've got everything,
but there's a crack that runs down the top of them.
Speaker 8 (57:04):
They've just gotten so thin over the years.
Speaker 7 (57:08):
They are done and most of them are having to
be replaced depending on where the home is. Some cities
also help with the cost of replacement of them. Now
most of the cities are out of money for this year,
but they may have more generated starting January first, so
(57:28):
you may want to talk to your cities about that
to see if they have anything like that. But there's
different municipalities all through Texas that are they are helping
citizens with that. So again, if you have a home
proven question seven one three, two, one two five eight
seven four oh one more thing on those cast iron pipes,
(57:52):
you don't necessarily have to go back in the same
way it was installed the first time. In other words,
if your bathrooms and kitchen and stuff or mostly on
outside walls, you can go underneath with short tunnels to
bring the pipes out and reroute around the outside of
the house rather than tunneling all the way across the house,
(58:13):
because the tunneling is expensive to replace these pipes. Uh
So it does give you some other options, but it
all depends on the layout of the house. You know what,
what you can get away with doing so again seven one, three, two,
one two, five eight seven four. Had an email that
(58:34):
came in about an hour ago from Susan and she's
listening in Phoenix. But I guess the house is here
in Texas. It's a stucclehouse wall replacement or how.
Speaker 8 (58:48):
To fix cracked areas.
Speaker 7 (58:50):
This is in Texas crack stucco, And all I hear
from contractors is to demo the house.
Speaker 8 (58:57):
Well, look.
Speaker 7 (59:00):
If it is real stucco, because a lot of times
people think it's stuck on and it's ephis. There is
a difference. If it is real stucco, in other words,
it's masonry all the way through.
Speaker 8 (59:14):
It will get cracks over time. They make paints.
Speaker 7 (59:17):
That are for stucco because stucco does need to be
painted every so many years, and it goes over those
cracks and it seals them. Now, if it's a wider crack,
you sometimes have to seal the crack first before you
paint it, and that can include even grinding it out
(59:39):
and filling it in and then patching back the stucco,
and then when you paint it it doesn't show, so
you can repair stucco if it is ephis. The issue
that's run into and I'm thinking this may be EPHIS
because you've got so many contractors telling you just demo it.
Speaker 8 (59:58):
If it's ephis.
Speaker 7 (01:00:00):
Sure gets in it starts rotting everything from the inside out,
so the wood is rotted, the insulation is shot, and
in some of those cases they just tell you to
tear the house.
Speaker 8 (01:00:11):
Down and rebuild it.
Speaker 7 (01:00:12):
Well, nowadays, with the way permitting is and all that stuff,
that may not be a viable option anymore, and in
some rare cases you may be better off to tear
all the siding off and just reside the place that
gives you the ability to rebuild any sections of the
wall that needs to be rebuilt, take care of the insulation,
(01:00:34):
and put a better siding on than the ephis is. Now,
the old issues that they had with EPIS, most of
those have been taken care of, but there's still a
lot of the old ethics out there that has problems
and needs to be dealt with, but the newer ethis
actually does a better job. Seven three two one two
five eight seven four. Let's talk about Texas Remodel Team's

Speaker 7 (01:03:55):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvements, your Total Home
Improvements or seven one three, two point two, five eight,
seven four. We're going to head out to sugar Land
and Jim, welcome to seven forty k TRH.
Speaker 8 (01:04:08):
How can I help you?
Speaker 21 (01:04:11):
Yes, good afternoon, Jim. I've got a house in Galveston,
Articky Island and the air conditioners twenty five years old
and I'm thinking of at Central Air Wow, thinking I'm
going to replace it before these I understand there's new
regulations coming in January.
Speaker 7 (01:04:33):
Yeah, and you know it's not that the systems are
going to work any You know, the systems are going
to work just the same. The big issue is going
to be because of all the retooling that all the
manufacturers have had to do, prices are going to be
substantially higher, and so you'll save quite a bit of
money by doing it now instead of next year, like
(01:04:56):
thirty to forty percent.
Speaker 21 (01:04:58):
Oh, that's a good incentive then.
Speaker 7 (01:05:01):
Yeah, I'm surprised on the island that you got that
many years out of a system.
Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
We don't.
Speaker 21 (01:05:08):
We don't go there all the time.
Speaker 6 (01:05:10):
We just have weekend probably.
Speaker 7 (01:05:13):
Yeah, well typically they just rust apart by that time.
Speaker 8 (01:05:18):
Yeah, down there.
Speaker 21 (01:05:20):
Okay, Well anyway, does your company do they go that far?
Speaker 8 (01:05:26):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (01:05:26):
Yes, sir, Yeah, we definitely can help you with that.
Speaker 21 (01:05:30):
Okay, well I'll call on Monday, I guess Okay, getting
getting a price for.
Speaker 7 (01:05:36):
That, right, we'd be more than happy to take care
of you.
Speaker 21 (01:05:40):
Okay, well, thank you. Oh and also it's fifteen. Well
i'll discuss the details on Monday with.
Speaker 11 (01:05:48):
With your people.
Speaker 8 (01:05:49):
Okay, you take care of thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:05:54):
By yeah, if you're wanting to get things, Because the
the units that are the current year models, they are
no longer making the most of most of the manufacturers
have already stopped, so it's whatever's in stock because they're
not allowed to sell them come January first, so they're
trying to unload everything. So right now is when you're
(01:06:16):
getting the best pricing. You're going to get you can
call du West air Conditioning seven one three four seven
three seven one five six and we'd be more than
happy to talk to you about it. Let's head out
to Angleton and is it Venita?
Speaker 15 (01:06:33):
Yes, Vanita?
Speaker 3 (01:06:34):
Thank you?
Speaker 8 (01:06:35):
How can I help you?
Speaker 22 (01:06:37):
Yes, Jim, we have three skylights to the living room
one of our bedroom, I mean bathroom that we've had
for like thirty four years.
Speaker 6 (01:06:45):
They've never leaked.
Speaker 22 (01:06:46):
This last hurricane they cracked, but they're not leaking. Okay,
But I don't know who I would contact, because we
can get those replaced with our insurance, But I don't
know who.
Speaker 15 (01:06:59):
Do I call aer?
Speaker 19 (01:07:00):
Do I call a glass person?
Speaker 22 (01:07:02):
I don't really know who I contact because I want
someone that knows how to put one in and it
not lead, because we've been really really thankful that they
haven't and they're not leaking now right?
Speaker 7 (01:07:15):
It is it is a roofing contractor that you would
call roofing.
Speaker 22 (01:07:19):
Okay, all right, that's what I needed to know because
one of the roofers that we used, I guess he
didn't have the expertise and he suggested I call someone else,
and I wasn't sure. Then if it's a roofer or
like a window company.
Speaker 7 (01:07:34):
Yeah, well, some of the roofers don't want to mess
with them because they are kind of problematic, like you said,
And right now, all the roofers are so swamped with
work they look at us as something that's going to
take their time. So honestly, if it's not leaking right now,
you might be better off to hold off just a
(01:07:55):
little bit and then get it done.
Speaker 22 (01:07:59):
That's kind of what I was thinking too, because it's
not leaking, and I just want to make sure I
get someone that does a good job.
Speaker 6 (01:08:06):
And like you say, that's a small job.
Speaker 22 (01:08:07):
So yep, I'll probably just wait, but thank you. That's
what I need to know.
Speaker 8 (01:08:11):
All right, you take care, okay, god bye bye.
Speaker 7 (01:08:15):
And look, everybody thinks so because the insurance is paying
for it, I got to jump on it and get
this done immediately. You can deal with the insurance company.
I mean typically you have a year to do it,
and you can get it extended for a second year.
Even so, if you got something small like that for
a roofer to do, and right now, like I said,
they're all swamped from the storms, you may be better
(01:08:39):
off to deal with the insurance company and say look,
I'm not leaking right now. Let's wait until things slow
down a little bit and then we'll get the roofers
out and get this taken care of.
Speaker 8 (01:08:51):
So just my two cents on that.
Speaker 7 (01:08:54):
I will tell you the last roof I had put
on my house, I waited a year and a half
after the storm damaged my roof before I put the
roof on, So you definitely can do it. All right,
We're going to take a break for news traffic weather
here on seven forty kter h and then we'll come
back with another half hour of Texas Home Improvements seven
(01:09:15):
one three two one two five eight seven four. You know,
USA Insulation can take care of all your homes retrofit
insulation needs on the walls of your home. So often
(01:09:35):
people think, oh, I can't reinsulate the walls.
Speaker 8 (01:09:38):
Yes you can.
Speaker 7 (01:09:39):
And if you've got an older home that has no
insulation in the walls, you can add insulation. USA Insulation
has a non expansive proprietary foam they can inject right
into the walls of your existing home.
Speaker 8 (01:09:54):

You will love it as well because it lowers your
energy bills. Makes a house quieter because it does reduce
that noise from outside, and it helps balance out the
temperatures in your home, so your air conditioning systems not
having to work as hard. Call USA Insallation eight three
two three seven six six eight six ' five. That's
(01:10:26):
USA Insulation.
Speaker 1 (01:10:32):
When it comes to home improvement, Jim Dutton will have
you ride in the gravy train with biscuit wheels. Here
he is sign Texas Home Improvement.
Speaker 7 (01:10:42):
Hey, welcome back to Texas Home Improvement, your total home
improvement source seven one three two one two five eight
seven four. We're gonna head out to Missouri City Ray.
Welcome to seven forty k t H. How can I
help you, Jim?
Speaker 10 (01:11:00):
I appreciate all that you do. Man. I have a
five ton carrier air conditioning air conditioner. It's sixteen years old.
I get it tuned up twice a year, and this
past April I had a brand new capacitor installed on it.
(01:11:22):
Last month, I noticed that my outside unit was turning,
but there was nothing coming on inside. So I wondered
what was happening. So I checked my thermostat and I
changed out the batteries. Then everything started working properly, no problems.
(01:11:42):
So a few days ago I noticed I had the
same problem. The unit outside was turning, but there was
nothing happening inside. So I'm trying to decide. I have
a home warranting, but.
Speaker 18 (01:11:58):
My productible is one fifty and I'm trying to decide
do I call the home warranty or is this something
that you think, in your opinion, might be very expensive
Because I'm willing to pay out a pocket if I
don't have to use my home warranty.
Speaker 7 (01:12:14):
It does not sound like something that's going to be expensive, Okay,
it's going to be. It's more likely just going to
be a relay of some kind or a sensor that
is messing up.
Speaker 10 (01:12:29):
Okay, because the unit outside is turning perfect perfectly. Yeah,
nothing is happening inside.
Speaker 7 (01:12:38):
Yeah no, Now why don't you want to use the
home warranty?
Speaker 13 (01:12:42):
Though?
Speaker 10 (01:12:44):
My deductible is one hundred and fifty dollars.
Speaker 7 (01:12:47):
And I will tell you when you have an AC
guy come out, it's going to cost that probably more.
Speaker 10 (01:12:54):
Okay, So in your opinion, you think I should phone
it in and use the home warranty.
Speaker 7 (01:13:00):
Yeah, yeah, if you've got it, I would use it.
Speaker 8 (01:13:02):
Who's your home warranty.
Speaker 10 (01:13:03):
Through sinch C I n C.
Speaker 7 (01:13:07):
H Okay, yeah, I'm not familiar with that one, but
uh yeah, go ahead and give them a call and
let them handle it, because I one thing, I will
guarantee you it will be more than one hundred and fifty.
Speaker 10 (01:13:20):
You think it will be more than five hundred dollars?
Speaker 8 (01:13:23):
Probably not, okay.
Speaker 10 (01:13:29):
And I'm thinking I have a Honeywell thermostat.
Speaker 5 (01:13:32):
Okay, how how big are you on.
Speaker 10 (01:13:35):
The what do you call it? You know, the new
programmable thermostats less.
Speaker 8 (01:13:43):
And I don't. I don't.
Speaker 7 (01:13:44):
I don't care for like Nest and some of those,
because you know, you get into where other people can
control it. I love programmable thermostats though, mm hmm.
Speaker 10 (01:13:59):
Okay, Well, I guess I will phone it in Monday
and have them take care of it then.
Speaker 8 (01:14:08):
For you bet all right?
Speaker 9 (01:14:10):
All right?
Speaker 7 (01:14:12):
And again seven one three two one two five eight
seven four Head in the spring, Robert, Welcome to Texas
Home Improvement.
Speaker 10 (01:14:22):
Well, thank you, sir, Jim. I have a problem. Uh,
during the hurricane, my pipes busted inside the house, and
the plumber had to put out a whole new pipe
set in different parts of the house. My master bathroom, Uh,
(01:14:45):
new pipes in my living room.
Speaker 11 (01:14:50):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (01:14:50):
He had to dig up and put new pipes in
my washroom. But here lately, every time that I flushed
to come old in the master bathroom, I get a knock,
and I'm trying to figure out is that something serious? Uh?
Speaker 13 (01:15:13):
No?
Speaker 10 (01:15:15):
Uh do you think it the knock that that that
I get? Do you think it's uh? It a damaged
the pipes that they had to put down because they
had to dig all the way down to the foundation
to put the new pipes.
Speaker 7 (01:15:31):
Yeah, and what they replaced was the water lines, right,
not the sewer lines. Okay, so no, more likely what
you've got is when like you flush the toilet, when
it stops the pipe or or when.
Speaker 8 (01:15:48):
You hit the lever to flush it.
Speaker 7 (01:15:51):
They probably went back with a pex pipe and it's
not secured somewhere, and so it's shaking and slapping the
wall it when it's flushed, or or the water stops
slowing either way start or stop, And so it sounds bad,
but it's not.
Speaker 11 (01:16:11):
Okay, it'll keep on doing it.
Speaker 10 (01:16:15):
It won't stop.
Speaker 8 (01:16:16):
It will not stop.
Speaker 7 (01:16:18):
To stop it, you would have to find where it's happening,
open the wall, and secure the pipe.
Speaker 11 (01:16:25):
Oh boy, okay, well.
Speaker 10 (01:16:29):
That's it, alrighty, well, thank you very much. I certainly
appreciate you.
Speaker 8 (01:16:35):
Bet.
Speaker 7 (01:16:35):
Now, there is a secondary thing that can happen. It's
called a water hammer. And if it's a water hammer,
then typically that you take care of by shutting the
water off to all the the house, you know, shut
the main valve off, Go and turn all the valves
(01:16:57):
on throughout the house, flush the toilets, you know, clear
out all the water that's in the lines. Then close
all the valves again, turn the water back on, and
go to the one furthest from the house, turn that
on and let the water flow through. And what that
does is it puts air back in the risers to
keep you from having a water hammer.
Speaker 8 (01:17:20):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (01:17:20):
And I'm not sure if what you're having is a
water hammer or just a pipe slapping against the the
wall when it bounces, but that would tell you which
one it is.
Speaker 10 (01:17:31):
Okay, I thought you was gonna say that will fix
the problem.
Speaker 7 (01:17:34):
Well, if it's if it's a water hammer, it will
fix the problem.
Speaker 10 (01:17:38):
Oh, okay, all right, ok great, I'm gonna try that then. Yeah, okay,
thank you very much. I say appreciate you, bet you
take care all right, you as well?
Speaker 7 (01:17:53):
And seven one three two one two five eight seven four.
We're gonna head up to Conro. Mark, how can I
help you?
Speaker 9 (01:18:02):
Grievings and wolvers and twitters from Conroe. I'm giving on
Saudi and got an interesting subject for you. Okay, I've
been looking at some stuff on YouTube. I don't know
if it's been an issue for this area, and I
do it. The subject is like sinkholes. There'd been issues
(01:18:30):
with that, like in Florida, and I knew it. I
remember that story about the gentlemen that fell into hole
that was in his bedroom, and I saw that story
several times on YouTube, and I remember being on the
news back in twenty thirteen. I'm wondering, since you deal
with foundation work, if y'all ever came across anybody that
(01:18:51):
may be having an issue such as something like that.
Speaker 7 (01:18:55):
Well, in Florida, they have sinkholes that are caused from
the uh soils that are underneath, you know, collapsing and
letting it sink. And we do have some of that
here in the Houston area as well, but when it
happens in Houston, they're typically a lot bigger than in Florida.
Speaker 9 (01:19:15):
And it's interesting.
Speaker 7 (01:19:18):
Yeah, and so yes, it does happen, uh, in Texas,
it's not as common, but like I say, when it
does happen, it's usually a lot bigger and a lot
bigger problem, uh than the ones that are happening in Florida.
Speaker 9 (01:19:34):
Yeah, it's just like I said, it's just interesting. Since
you deal with foundation work, you people then deal with
their homes and stuff like that, cracks in the walls
and sticking doors and that kind of stuff, and it's
time to bring that up. And if it's good, it's
let's say this. I've been interested in watching some of
this and then that, and then saw that story about
(01:19:56):
the gentleman that fell in the hole. Yeah, yeah, a
lot of people have been looking at that.
Speaker 8 (01:20:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:20:03):
Well, in Texas when we have them, it's the salt domes,
and you know, it's it starts collapsing and you're talking
not somebody falling in the hole. You're talking the house
is gone and your land is gone. I mean, it's
it's it's a pretty big deal.
Speaker 9 (01:20:21):
Yes, it is but it's it's just interesting, you know, yep,
because sinkholes are are a scary thing. Because yeah, and
I really I did have one little small I had
a little we had some property up near Riverside years ago,
and I had a little workshop where I dabbled with vineage,
(01:20:44):
tievs and stuff like that. And uh, there was a
little corner behind my little workshop that had a sinkhole
in it, and I was kind of wanting Dad managed
to fill it in, but I remember that that hole
being there, and I only even was careful around that thing.
Speaker 8 (01:21:04):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (01:21:06):
Well, Mark, I got to take a break. I appreciate
you calling.
Speaker 9 (01:21:10):
Yeah, I've just done it, sing AUTI and bring that
serious all right?
Speaker 8 (01:21:15):
You take care you Toobe.
Speaker 7 (01:21:20):
And again our number seven one three, two one two
five eight seven four. Let's talk about air conditioning real quick.
You know, we've had several questions about air conditioners. And look,
if you are thinking about trying to have a system
put in before the end of the year to avoid
the high cost of the new systems after the first
of the year, called due West air Conditioning, we would
(01:21:42):
be more than happy to come out and go over
the pricing for you. But look, if your system is
operating well, and say you're ten or twelve years old,
you know I probably I personally wouldn't worry about putting
it in. But if if your system is you know,
eighteen twenty twenty five years old, you take advantage of
(01:22:02):
getting it put in and save that you know, thirty
or forty percent increase that is expected in the market
for air conditionings. Call due West seven one three four
seven three seven one five six. Remember when you want
the best, you call due West. You know, a lot
of window companies can put in new windows, but can
(01:22:23):
they make the trim look right? Do they use high
end cock to seal up the air gaps? And do
they offer multiple styles and choices so you can get
the exact windows you need and want for your home.
Jim Dutton, host of Texas How Improvement for Texas Remodel Team.
They have a window division that does nothing but windows,
and they can make sure that things like your trim,
(01:22:43):
your brick, even your windowsill looks perfect. Because after all,
they are owned by a construction company. They carry all
the major brands of windows, and their insult crews are
second to none. Giving them a four point nine stars
out of five on Google Reviews and an A plus
raise with the BBB plus a thumbs up from me.
Great windows, great prices, and a great installation called the

too much glare coming through the windows, or nosy neighbors
looking through the windows, or even a sliding glass door
that's heating up floors and furniture and stuff, you need
to call Concord Window Film. It's a professional grade window film,
not cheap stuff like you get the box stores or Amazon.
But you can install this yourself, and it's very easy
(01:23:49):
to install yourself. You know, it's customized based on what
you need, like the stuff we were just talking about,
and you can go from a darker tint to give
you the privacy to a tin sol light you can't
even tell it's there. And the window film they sell

Speaker 17 (01:24:25):

Is the hardest part about and motivated for your projects.
Speaker 3 (01:24:33):

Speaker 23 (01:24:54):
B.
Speaker 8 (01:24:54):
How are you today?
Speaker 6 (01:24:56):
Uh?
Speaker 23 (01:24:56):
Okay, I'm just wondering did you ever find a solution
to my problem over here?
Speaker 7 (01:25:01):
Well, I've been out this week with diveticulitis.
Speaker 11 (01:25:05):
Oh, and.
Speaker 8 (01:25:07):
I did get your message.
Speaker 7 (01:25:09):
I haven't been returning phone calls this week, but I
will be back in returning calls this coming week. And yes,
I will have a talk with them and figure it out.
Speaker 23 (01:25:21):
Okay. Well, I wanted to tell you something that I
think you'll find very interesting.
Speaker 8 (01:25:24):
Okay.
Speaker 23 (01:25:25):
The Supreme Court made a decision I think it was
in the Land session, and the decision was that the
EPA does not have the authority to implement any regulations,
they must go to Congress.
Speaker 7 (01:25:43):
So a lot of these government entities have been overstepping
their bounds. I mean it's it wasn't just e PA,
it was EPA Osha.
Speaker 8 (01:25:55):
Even the I R. S. Has overstepped a lot of
their stuff. Where yes, and.
Speaker 7 (01:26:01):
We haven't seen the big backlog on this yet, but
I think it's it's still coming.
Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
The thing I.
Speaker 23 (01:26:09):
Wanted to say is that means that all these companies
that are rushing around to fulfill this, they're they're wasting
their time because they I personally don't think Congress is
going to pass any of this stuff because I had,
you know, in the spring, I had my checkup on
(01:26:30):
my AC and the guy found it. It was perfectly okay.
You know, it was very old, it's only ten years old,
and it's he said it was very clean. Must see
my filter a lot. So at any rate, I said
to him, well, you know, this is very still okay,
but I'm going to check, you know, to see if
(01:26:51):
he's right. So the next guy comes and he says, oh,
you need a new system, and it'll be sixteen thousand
dollars blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, and I'm like,
oh my god, this gudness is unbelievable. So is that
what they cause now? New systems?
Speaker 8 (01:27:08):
Yes, ma'am.
Speaker 23 (01:27:09):
Wow, because this one uh ten years ago, I think
I've spent like three or four thousand and I was
so shocked. And that's because of all these new regulations,
right it is, yeah, and.
Speaker 7 (01:27:22):
It's getting ready to go up again because they changed
the coolants and stuff. And you know, the problem that
businesses are in is yes, the Supreme Court says that
these guys are overstepping their bounds, but they're still issuing
fines and all this other stuff on companies who don't
follow those regulations that don't meet you know, it's just
(01:27:44):
a it's a nightmare.
Speaker 8 (01:27:46):
You darned if you do, darned if you don't.
Speaker 7 (01:27:48):
And that's why I say, I don't think we've seen
the full extent of this yet, because you're going to
see court cases coming through the system that will start
making some changes on these but it takes quite a
few years for.
Speaker 8 (01:28:02):
That to happen.
Speaker 23 (01:28:03):
Well, it wouldn't I think if they got together, you know,
like a rude and carrier and American Standard and so on,
we get together and you know, make sort of a
class action suit and just go against this the EPA
and get it on up to the Supreme Court, and
probably you can do it probably in a couple of years.
Speaker 7 (01:28:27):
Well, all all of those that you just listed have
already changed their coolants, so I know, but they're not.
Speaker 23 (01:28:33):
If they could make it cheaper, I think they would,
don't you so at any rate, that's just my thought
on that.
Speaker 7 (01:28:40):
Music means I got to take a break, uh, and
I will give you a holler this week.
Speaker 23 (01:28:44):
Bee Okay, thank you, ma'am.
Speaker 9 (01:28:47):
By bye.
Speaker 7 (01:28:49):
And with that, let's talk about Hardy siding. You know,
James Hardy siding is the best sighting on the planet.
It is cement based and because of that, it doesn't rot,
it doesn't deteriorate. You know, it holds paint better than
any wood siding I've ever seen. And it has so
many different styles and options to choose from. Whether you
(01:29:12):
want just the lap siding that we're all used to
see in the T one eleven stuck o look, wood
shake look, and it got all the trim to go
with it as well. Now, once you put James Hardy
siding on and you paint it you're done for years
to come if you get the color, plus it comes
with a huge warranty in fact against having a paint.
(01:29:35):
I've got that on my house. I've had it for
I don't know, sixteen seventeen years. Haven't had to do
a thing other than clean it once in a while.

homes foundation, that's something that really needs to be addressed,
but it needs to be addressed by somebody who can
take care of the plumbing as well as the homes foundation.
Speaker 8 (01:30:06):
That's why you want to call do West.
