Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Elliott, how are you.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I am doing well, sir, how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Yeah, I'm doing good.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hey where are I got? Are you here or you?
I don't know where you live anymore?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Yeah? So, uh so, most of the time I'm living
on board and I'm traveling. But I had the week off,
so I was home visiting my family here in southern
Maryland in Calvert County.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
And you did the Forgive me, I did not watch
Below Deck, So Culver, don't be pissed at me.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
No, No, you're good.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
That's all good.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
The so, what we were talking about, like living on
I don't even remember what got it started, but we
were talking about people who live on work on boats,
and whether they're yachts or super yachts or Megga yachts,
whether it's fun, whether it's not.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Did you well, how did you end up on the show?

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Uh? So, I was. I started working in yachting about
eight years ago. I was a snowboard instructor and I
needed a summertime job and I was like, well, maybe
i'll work on boats this summer, and then I got
into it, and once I got in't, I was like, whoa,
this is like full time job and I've been in
it ever since. But yeah, I uh, about eight years

(01:11):
I've been doing it, and then I did about two
seasons of the Blow Deck Show in Australia Blowdeck down Under.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
And is it so let me ask let me ask
you this this way.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Oh my god, by the way, dude, uh, Tyler just
pulled up a picture of you.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Jesus Christ, I would kill for your body.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah. So I've grown up playing football on lacross my
whole life. I've always been kind of big on my
workouts and in fitness, so yeah, kind of comes with it.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah, I grew up eating anyway.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
The hey, so so well let me start here, like, listen,
I don't know what goes on on the TV show,
but is the TV show like really really different than
what it's really like working on one of those boats.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Uh, it's different like when we film that season, Elliott,
Like it's a full real season and it's go, go, go,
and and you're catering to different guests and you're traveling
and you're doing boat operations. And then for the show,
you signed the rights to the footage. So with it
being a reality TV show, they'll take the footage and

(02:20):
then they they edit it up for you know, drama
and storylines and things like that. But the show is
it's all real, just the way they portray it, I guess,
and put the footage together. Can I'll watch it differently
than someone at home.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yeah, right, that's how I am with like WKRP and Citcinnati. Yeah, hey, Colbt,
So is it so?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
But is it? Is it a fun job?

Speaker 3 (02:47):
I mean, I'm sure it's hard, I'm sure it has
its moments, but is it a fun job?

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah? Like it, And it really depends on you got
your good days and your bad days, like any job,
and some days are easier than others. But I love it.
And you're outside and you're you know, you're always traveling,
and it depends on where you are. So sometimes it's
like and like I said, with the travel schedule, it's

(03:14):
kind of like Elliott being in a band and you're
on the tour bus and the owner will be like, hey,
we want to take the boat to Europe, or we
want to go to Australia, or we want to do this,
and your job is, you know, to get the boat
there safely, and you're maintaining everything on board from the
X tier to the engine room, and you have a
whole lot of different jobs that kind of come with it,
and different roles if you're a captain or you're a

(03:35):
stew or you're a deckhand or officer. But yeah, no, no,
I really enjoy it. But like you said, it is
a lot of work.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
We talked to somebody culver who said that they worked also,
like on one of these yachts, if you will, and
they said that in a lot of cases, the people
who own the boat or the people who rented the
boat or chartered it for a week or two, not huh,
they're not the hard ones to deal with. It's other
crew members that are the hard ones to deal with.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, yeah, no, And I've been in I've been on
quite a few different boats, and the crew can make
or break it. And you live, you you breathe, and
work with these people all the time.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
So if you have a bad bug.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
It can mess it up for the rest of the crew.
But yeah, lately, the past few years I've been I've
been with some great crews, great captains, lovely owners, and
I've really, you know, enjoyed my time on board. And
it's not like Elliott, They're you're signing to some long
contract or something. You don't like a crew or a boat.
You can pack your stuff and jump on the next boat.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, because like Diane was like she she tried to
paint all the owners as like I don't like this tequila.
I want new tequila right now, and then like you're
at their beckon call twenty four to seven.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, it really it again, it's going to depend. I've
always had great owners and no one's ever been super
demanding or disrespectful. But I'd have heard stories in the
industry of like, you'll have crazy owners that act like that.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
And then the other part is Diane. Diane thinks she's
also going.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
To hook up with the owner's son and then then
soon this boat will be mine.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
But you're not allowed to do that, right.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Uh, you know, there's there's a motive to everybody. And
then I've seen people wesel their way onto these boats somehow,
So I'm all for it. She wants to go for it.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Hey have you ever and again I feel bad, maybe
maybe listen for all I know you were the slut
of the boat. I have no idea, but like, did
you ever did you like, did you ever hook up
with an owner?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Or an owner's daughter.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
No, no, never like guest wise. But I've always been
on like big crews where you know, I've been on
three hundred foot boats Elliott. So the crew, there's twenty
eight of us that live and work on board. So
he'll end up in like a I call him like
a boat man. It's like a little relationship on board, right,
And it's great because then you travel with you have
someone to you know, go see all these places and

(06:05):
you're away from your family and friends all year, so
you know, it is nice to have that somebody with you,
you know, when you're going through.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
All of it.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Now, is it like I tried to compare it to
a restaurant where like within the first six months everybody
is slept with everybody.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Is that pretty accurate?

Speaker 1 (06:24):
You have some boats will do you like that. But
then there's I've seen other boats where you have a
contract that says, hey, there's going to be no kissing,
anything like play between the crew. You're fired immediately. So
every program has different protocols and rules and just yeah,
different culture on each but you will see it on

(06:45):
some boats where it's like we're the only ones here,
so what.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Else and what is the then I know, like again
I feel horrible because all this may be known, but
I never see like on below Deck are any of
the are any of the owners of the boats?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Are they famous people that I would know?

Speaker 1 (07:07):
No, not necessarily. And that's what a lot of people
see is they'll watch below Deck and they'll think, man,
that must be yachting. And for me, I'm like, that's
just like scratching the surface of yachting. Like these big
owners would never allow their yachts to be on TV.
And so below Deck will run a boat for a
few months and they bring in their camera crew and

(07:29):
they film it, and it's the closest thing you can
get to the reality of what yachting is. But at
the same token, like yachting is a is a you know, billionaire.
It's just a huge, worldwide industry. So a lot of
these owners it's very exclusive. You're signing nbas, they would
never allow cameras on board and and things like that.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Have you ever have you ever worked for like somebody
that I would know, like name wise, not personally, but
somebody that I would know.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Maybe like I've worked for like NFL owners before.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Dan Snyder, Dan Snyder.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Nah, But I've been next to his boat. He's got
this uh, he's got a big fed, beautiful boat. But
we were next to him at the super Bowl. But
I've worked for the Jaguars owner Shodcom before.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Oh sure, And he's.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
A big yachting guy. He just came out with his
new boat, just dropped and I mean this thing's like
off the hook. It's like thirty six crew on board
four hundred foot boat. It chartersh to thirty million a
week Elliott's if you.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Want to take.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
A week, so, I'll put you in touch with a broker.
We can get you set up for a eight.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Oh my god. Is that is his boat called Kismet? Yes, yeah, yeah,
that's nice. I'm looking at a picture of it. It's
parked down.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
I don't I don't know what we're exactly in Jacksonville
it is. You actually can't see Jacksonville behind the boat.
You see the boat is bigger than the city.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's that is a that's a serious
boat and it's beautiful. A lot of detail and lurse
and built it. But they did a great job.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Hey, is that the biggest boat you've worked on?

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, that's probably. Yeah. The biggest boat I've worked on.
I started really big and then I kind of worked
I sort of downgraded. Now this past year I've been
working on one hundred foot boats and smaller crew. Totally different
vibe versus the bigger boats. It's very departmentalized. Like it's like,
I'm a deck can I do my job? The stews

(09:32):
who theirs? Engineers do theirs? And then when you get
on the smaller boats, it's like, okay, I have to
be an engineer. Deckcan sometimes a help in the galley.
You know, you just end up wearing more hats on
the smaller boats.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Hey, give me somebody else famous you work for.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
I don't really think so much famous, but people who
rent the boats, like we've had jay Z and Beyonce
runs the boat before cut up. Yeah, Like you get
like a lot of like and even what I've healthy, well,
it's like you get like these big like I don't know,
it's just like World CEOs from Russia and sometimes the
cast is like just clean the windows, don't look them

(10:10):
in the eyes.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
And you know, so that's what I care about. I
care about who rented the boat, not who owns the boat.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, But but it's all, it's all. It's really cool
once you spend time in the industry and you see
all the boats, because you start to get to know, like, oh,
that's you know, like you said, Dan Snyder's boats, that's
Jerry Jones boat, that's you know, a couple other guys,
you know.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
And does every does every NFL owner own a boat?

Speaker 1 (10:39):
No, I don't, every single one does.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
But because it's a lot.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Like I mean, you get into yacht and you gotta
you kind of kind of be ready for what comes
with it and the bills and the expectations of the
owners and the crew, and it's it's a lot. And
and like I said, like mister Kahn, he's been yachting
going on probably twelve years, you've had boats. But yeah,
I think some of them what what you would what

(11:06):
a lot of them should do. Though Elliott is probably
just charter a boat.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah exactly. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Wait, when I want to go somewhere, I don't own
the Courtyard by Marriott, I just rent a room when
I want one, exactly exactly.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
It is a lot, and I mean see, you see,
like anybody who owns the boat, you see kind of
the good days and the headaches that come with it,
and the bigger the boats, the bigger you know, the
bills and then everything that comes with it like that.
So they're a lot.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
Hey, so you're you said, you're home back home in
southern Maryland, visiting family. When do you leave to go
back out to to go back out yachting.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
I fly out tonight at uh I fly out of
BWI tonight in the West Palm Beach and I'll get
on the boat and then I think we're we're making
a run to the Igzumas.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
I don't even know what or where that is.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Yeah, that that being where the pigs are.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
The Bahamas right, Oh my god, Okay, wait, can you
get off the boat and like go take pictures with them?

Speaker 2 (12:09):
He's got tons on his Instagram already. Oh really, I'm
dreading it like he's never been there before.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Yeah, So you get off and and like I said,
like my day, elliotts, like I get up at you know,
you're up at five am and you're cleaning the boat.
You're getting it ready for the guests. And then six
am rolls around. I launched tenders and jet skis. Guests
are eating breakfast at like seven or eight, and then
nine we take them to the beach and it's just
like a full day of like of uh, you know,

(12:38):
pasting and things like that. But the pigs are wild
a pig beach man. People think they're little Instagram pigs.
They'll chase you having down that beach.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Hey, let me ask you this last thing and then
I know, well, you got a flight to catch. What
is the when you go when you go on the
on this boat to the Egzumas or wherever you're going.
Is that somebody who rented the boat or is that
some buddy who owns the boat.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
No, we'll do that that this will be an owner trip.
So god, yeah, well we'll go up there. Our our
owner has a place. There's a little there's the chain
of islands, like I said, of the Azuomas, and we
our owner has a place in Norman's k. So that's
where we go and he'll stay on the boat and
then go to the house. And this the but Norman's

(13:24):
k is where have you? Have you heard of the
airplane Pablo Escobar's airplane that crashed and the Bahamas and
everyone snorkels it.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah, sure is that there?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Yeah, that's where Norman's k is just uh kind of yeah,
I see can picture where we're going.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
The Uh, well no I can't.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
I mean I can see the picture of the plane
in the in the water obviously, and stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
God, that's amazing. That's amazing.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
So that'll be another little like hot spot you do
with the guests. We'll go snorkeling there and yeah, but
it's cool though. The izoomas are beautiful.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
I'll take your word for it. They look nice, I
mean based on the pictures. Here's my new thing. Hey,
are you allowed to get phone calls like I'm like
during the day and stuff?

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, yeah, all right, this is gonna be my new bit.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Every so often, every so often we're going to just
what's Cover doing? And every so often we'll just check
in and see what the hell you got going on.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah, that's perfect. I'll say, Oh, it's a good day, Elliet.
We're out here at the picture. I'm like, it's a
bad day. We have you know, our cu tank explode
on Boardelli.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
You never know what you get. You never know what
you get, and that's why what's Culver doing? I have
to know?

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Hey, Cover, hold on one second, let me get your
shirt to wear on the boat. You'll impress the owners.
Hold tight one second, you got it, dude, Hold on
one second. That's my new best friend. That guy's awesome.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
No offense.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Oh yeah, he's my new best chef friend.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
I gotta change the caption on Instagram.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
How awesome is that?

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Also?

Speaker 2 (14:55):
I feel bad? Why wasn't I in the below deck
in seasons one and two? That's my guy?

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Yeah, it was more seasons? Was it four? Or five?
The Mediterranean?

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Hey Johnny damon, but don't you don't you think we
should do that just every so often?

Speaker 4 (15:10):
That's funny.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Yes, we'll just check in see what he's doing. He's
cleaning a poop poop

Speaker 4 (15:14):
