Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Hello, Hello, Yes, oh I'm very excited Maren Morris
and Karina Argo. Is it our go or should I
be saying our goal?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
It's our go, our go.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Thanks for asking no, no.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
My pleasure. Thanks for coming on to the show, ladies.
Before we get into this, this Addy ant series looks
like something right up my alley and Beatrix Butterfly wings
it for once I do. I just have to stop
down and acknowledge that Maren, the Middle and and the
the Bones maybe even a little bit more two of
(00:36):
my anthems, or what my daughter call it, my jams.
These last couple of years, I saw you post The
Middle pre the Bones, which is sad for me because
I didn't get a light yet, hadn't released it yet.
When you came through Connecticut opening for Nile Horn.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Oh yeah, oh my gosh. So it was a fun tour.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Brought her and a bunch of her friends and you know,
and when The Middle came out, I'm like, this is
my jam. They all started laughing at me. But I
you know, I didn't realize who I was what I
was seeing at the time. Be totally honest with you,
it was like, you know, I was taking these little
girls to see one of the guys from one direction.
I didn't know I was getting the girl who sang
the middle opening. So it's very exciting.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Oh I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, but the bones is just if you don't mind
my language, just a badass follow up. I just love it.
I just love the music. So tell me about your
relationship here, Karina. I'm trying to understand here. You're a
school teacher. How do you two know each other? Did
you teach Maren? What's the deal?
Speaker 2 (01:38):
No, I was a school teacher. I taught in New
Jersey for six years and I taught in Nashville for four.
All right, but Maren and I moved to Nashville around
the same time, and we met at a like a
house party, and we just became really good friends. And
now I'm on the road with Mare, and I stopped
teaching about four years ago.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Well, first of all, First of all, I don't hear
any Jersey whatsoever. There's no so much.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I lost my temper yet today if I lose my temper,
you'll you'll hear it.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Occasionally a word will slip out and I'll be like, Okay, Jersey,
it's my ars.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
I can't fake the ars like Jared and Mario.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
I love it and don't take that. You know, I'm
not trying to be a wise guy here, but what
kind of what kind of lame house party gives birth
to a children's book series? Like that's that's like, it
wasn't the most raucous of house parties. If you do
are like, well, nice to meet you. You know, I
think I think.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
That was lame. The book was created on my tour bus,
so a lot of people think you're getting it's, you know,
rock and roll on there, but it's just me and
Krina drinking wine at dawn talking about children's book characters.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah. No, well wine is a great you know, wine
is a creative juice.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
I think.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
So I would say, yes, what was the line of choice?
Was it a white I'm going to say it was
a white line.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Nope, it was a rose rose?
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah makes yeah, it makes sense, and it results in
a New York Times bestseller. Addie Aunt goes on in adventure, Maren,
do like, this isn't like merch that you have out
on your table. Is there are fans of your music
aware of this, this series that you're doing.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Oh yeah, I mean we saw the book at the
merch table at my shows, you do. So it's a
it's a diverse crowd, no, but they're so supportive. And
I think like anyone that follows my music, you know
closely enough, I feel like they know, you know, you
get to know someone's personal life as well. And I
have a five year old little boy that was you know,
born at the beginning of the pandemic, and so there
(03:51):
was a lot of like just when you have a kid,
I feel like you just read so many books to
them from you know, the time that you bring them home.
So now there's so many books that We've gone through
a lot of book series, and I've just always been
so in love with like children's books, children's movies because
it's just you always have those favorites from your childhood
(04:14):
that just stick with you and had such an impression
on you. And so they are incredibly important pieces of work.
And I think that writing one, you know, with your
best friend in the way that I've been able to
has been such a gift and like not just for
myself and my creative brain, but like also from my
son and my relationship. I mean, he loves these characters.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, I mean there are two characters that I would
associate with. Each of my kids. They each you know,
they each had their own series and this either you're
going to totally get this. I would imagine a Jersey
girl would. I don't know if a Texas native would.
And I mean you shook off your accent to both
of you don't sound like you're from anywhere.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
To be honest, well, nasvill is just I feel like
Hodgepodge of transplants. But I feel like we all glowm
together and these.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Are down, like, yeah, just hosed you guys down. I mean, Maren,
I literally thought you were gonna do that. Well, thank
you all, Vanny, I appreciate you lacking my bones, the bones,
not my bones. That was Freudian, but I didn't expect
you to. I mean, you guys, you guys don't sound
I don't hear where you're from it at all. But
(05:27):
my kids had the they both had these series that
the ups when the new book would come out, they'd
look for the big brown truck. I don't know if
that if you guys can relate to that, and all
my kids would look out the window and they would say,
the big brown truck is here, and they knew that
meant one of their books was here and.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
The Amazon truck.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Well that makes sense. Yeah, my kids are a little
bit older now and they'd run down the driveway and
you know, you can only hope that that continues. In
why series like what you guys are doing are so
important because they were excited about a book in the
mail and to crack that sucker open and to read
it and the pictures popped. Who does the art in the.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Books our illustrator, Kelly and Dalton. We found her on
Instagram actually when we had started writing the book.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yeah, and she.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Has just been the most magical partner in this whole
writing experience. We always just like give her notes about
things that we'd love to see and she takes those
notes and she just runs with them and she makes
the most unbelievable magical world for us.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Yeah, I love it. Well, so tell me about the
new book, Beatrix a Butterfly. Tell me about the character,
the genesis and wings it for once. I would imagine
we know the origin story.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Now, Yeah, Well, beat Butterfly is a character from our
first book, and she just became with our audience very
popular and she's just the star. So I feel like
she needed her own story. And she's very meticulous, well planned,
well put together. But then this particular day, like even
she has an off day, and I feel like we
(07:07):
wanted to dive into you know, kids so early, you know,
have schedules and things to get to and responsibilities. And
I mean, my son's only five, but I feel like
their week gets filled up with tasks and you know,
swim lessons, tennis like this and that, and plus school.
So I feel like they, you know, we try to
(07:27):
keep it as even keeled as possible, but I feel
like even kids as young as like three start to realize, like, wow,
my days are getting busier, Like it's not just you know,
this little cocoon anymore. So I feel like Beatrix, through
this book, we've been able to give this lesson of
you know, just get to one thing on your list today.
You don't have to get to a thousand things to
(07:48):
feel like you were productive. And I feel like such
something adults could learn too.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yeah, yeah, that's what I even try to do. You know,
this reminds me too. I have this great photo of
my daughter. I wish I could get it in your hands,
and she was about five. She had a butterfly net,
and she would go in the yard and and try
to catch butterflies with this butterfly net. Yeah, I mean
the magic I mean the magical butterflies. So you'd think, uh,
(08:15):
and maybe there there is a butterfly character before Beatrix,
but a long time coming. I think it's great stuff,
from Grammys to best selling books. I wish you guys
the best of luck with the series. You think it's
going to go on and on and on.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
We hope, So, I mean we were shocked, Like I'm
so proud that the last book was a New York
Times bestseller, and you know we were allowed to write
another one. So we're so excited that Beatrix out tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah, I wish you're the best of luck with it.
Like I said, I miss I'm misinhabiting that world. For
my kids, it was The Piggy and the Elephant. Marion.
You have a five year old, probably love those books.
The Piggy and the Elephant were great books. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Yeah, he loves Doctor Seuss right now. That's the big one.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Oh yeah, well he's the og I mean Doctor Seuss.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, I mean it's a classic for a reason.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah. But Maren Morris and Karina Argo. I appreciate you
coming on today and you've been a lot of fun.
Don't forget where you're from, though, don't forget Jersey. You
don't forget Texas.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I could never. I could never.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
You should introduce a character in the next book. I
feel like from Jersey it would be like a maybe
a worm, like a cigarette smoking worm.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
It's a it's a caterpillar and he's a He is
a He watches the jazz club to make sure that
nothing bad happens.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Now gotten the cricket in the first book, she's like
Marisa's home Ae.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, we're not forgetting about Jersey while we're writing.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
I love it. I love it all right, guys, well
continued success. Thanks for taking the time.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Thanks, thank you.
