Speaker 1 (00:00):
To leave in the magic of the Holidays Dave Ryan's
Christmas Wish, and we're doing Christmas Wish. We've done this
for so long. You probably grew up listening to Christmas
Wish on KTWB. And we do have our wisher here
in the studio right now, and it's Casey Hi, Casey H.

(00:22):
Did you grow up listening to ktbdb's Christmas Wish? I did,
But here you are. You never really thought that you
would be on KTBDB doing a Christmas wish. Never, you
could never imagine. But this year, did somebody come to
you right away? When you said, oh my gosh, they're
taking submissions for the wish? Somebody came to you right way.
So what we're gonna do is we're going to call

(00:43):
this person. They don't know that we're about to call them,
and sometimes they find out, sometimes they do it. It's okay,
it doesn't matter, it doesn't change anything, but we always
kind of like to make it a look kind of
a happy surprise. So we're gonna call this person now
live on the radio. Then you're going to reed them
your wish and then we have Street Team member Grace

(01:05):
standing by to bring all the Wishes live into their
home right now. Hi, Grace, Hi, how are you? Grace?

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Good?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Well?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
About to ride at the door.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Well, yeah, don't go yet. Don't go yet because we'll
get you to the door in a second. Don't go
to the don't go to the door yet until we
get this person on the phone. Grace. Okay, okay, very good,
All right, back on hold Grace. But that way, in
case nobody answers the phone, Grace can go beat on
the door and get their attention. You're ready to make
the phone call? Yeah, okay, let's make the phone call
right now on Katie able to be here.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
We go.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
And if you don't watch the magic happen the tears,
we're on YouTube live right now, you can search da
Ryan TV.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
So how do you know the family? So I work
with Nicole. Okay, got it? So you and but the
wish we're kind of going to be talking a little
bit more.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
To Dan and yeah, okay, got it. Dave's calling him
right now. I'm anxious. Well, Hi, I'm calling for Dan. Please.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
This is Dan.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Hey Dan, it is Dave Ryan over at kd WB
Radio and we are on the radio this morning.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
That probably comes as a bit of a surprise. I'm
going to.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Guess, yeah, little we got a little heads.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Up, but sometimes and sometimes that happens. Yeah. Well, we
are here with your kat wb Christmas wish, and your
friend Casey is going to read the letter that she
wrote to us that we want to help you and
your family out. So have you got a minute for
Casey to read this wish? Yep, Okay, here we go, Casey.

(02:47):
It's all you whenever you're ready.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I am here to nominate Dan Higher for a Christmas wish.
Dan and his wife Nicole had a hard time starting
their family. Their first pregnancy resulted in a tubal pregnancy
and required her to remove a tube, leaving their chances
for a successful pregnancy more difficult. With help in their hearts,

(03:13):
they continued on this journey. Dan and Nicole are the
proud parents of four beautiful girls, Satally fourteen also.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Twelve in Eiahs.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Six.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
This June, Dan became ill. Originally, the doctors diagnosed him
with pneumonia. After not responding to the medications, he had
to have blood work, scans, biopsies, and surgeries done to
see what was going on. With weeks and months of
waiting and worrying. In early November, we found out he

(03:50):
had late stage terminal muscle thelioma, which has spread throughout
his chest, abdomen, pelvis, and lymph nodes. With ongoing treatment
to slow the spread. Dan's life expectancy is approximately one year.
Dan is a Christmas fanatic. This is his favorite time

(04:12):
of the year. I would say he enjoys Christmas more
than anyone I know. I would love to make it
extra special for him. Although children get very excited about gifts,
the true gift for this family will be the time
they can spend together and the memories they can cherish
here on earth. I would love if Dan could say

(04:34):
this Christmas was the best Christmas of his life. Dan
is a wonderful father, a dedicated husband, and a friend
to so many. The news they received is heartbreaking, and
although we are all praying to God for a miracle
of complete healing, we are preparing for the end of
so many family traditions and lasts.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
For Dan.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
It is difficult asking for help and support, and this
is one way we can bless them in this challenging time.
Did and Nicole have a strong faith and believe in
the power of prayer, So any prayers for their family
would be greatly appreciated.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Thank you, Dan. Yeah, I'm just so saddened to hear
about your your journey. And I know you're trying to
be as positive as you can. You got four kids
and you want to make them as give them the
best experience of a Christmas as you possibly can. But

(05:42):
it's probably been very tough. Are you able to get
up and around, Dan? What is your like? Yeah, so
you're up and you're not working though, I'm gonna guess.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
No, no, I officially retired last month.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Is your tree up? Though? Very important question? Is your tree?
It is up? Okaya trees.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
He definitely loves Christmas.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
You do love Christmas?

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Dan, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
You know, if if you are a praying kind of
a person, this would be a definite opportunity. And I mean, yeah,
I know you are. But if you're listening to the
show and if you're a praying kind of a person,
send up a prayer for Dan and his family. Dan.
Have you ever heard of Katie WB's Christmas Wish?

Speaker 2 (06:22):
I've heard a little bit of both.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
I guess basically, what we ask people to do is
to write in and tell us about somebody who's struggling
in one way or another. And when we saw this one,
we thought, my gosh, you've got four girls. Probably finances
are kind of a little bit tight right now. You've
got a lot of distractions, You've got probably appointments, you're
probably and what is your wife's name? Is Nicole? Okay?

(06:51):
And Nicole is probably staying busier than ever helping with
the four girl four girls. My gosh, well, my wife
my rock, I'm sure she is. And as I got
four kids myself, I got two girls, and I know
how much I know that daddy daughter relationship is so special.

(07:11):
And I know you want to make your girl's Christmas
as memorable as possible. So for your Christmas wish, we're
going to go through each of the kids one by one.
We're gonna start it with the oldest first, Adelaide. She's
fourteen years old, so for her first of all, every
fourteen year old wants to go to Target. So we
got a two hundred dollars gift card. Now you can

(07:32):
keep that or put it under the tree, or give
it to her now or whatever you want to do.
And then we have a two hundred dollars airy gift cards.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
It's just like an American Eagle kind of vibe. But
I love that place. I buy like sweatpants and stuff.
I'm there, super cozy, comfy clothes.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Okay, so she can get whatever she wants to do.
Elsa is your twelve year old, right, Okay? We got
her everything. We got her a bunch of stuff here.
We got her a Lululemon black fanny pack. We got
a new comfort for her bed. We got her fuzzy socks,
we got her a nice blanket, pj's. A flat iron
came up somehow, so that's in there too. Sometimes I
look at these gifts and I don't know how this

(08:09):
came up, But this is under the tree for her,
and a two hundred dollars Dick Sporting Goods gift card
for Elsa. Is she the athlete in the family? She is?
Okayla Island, Isla. I want to get this right. It's
very important. She is. How old is Island? She's eight

(08:29):
years old. We also got her a two hundred dollars
gift card for Target to get whatever she wants pj's
and a Disney Watch. Somehow that came up. And Riah
is your six year old. We got her Disney Surprise
character bracelet, Crystal Putty, a drum set, a drum set.

(08:51):
How do you suppose she got a drum set? Did
she wanted? Does she want to play the drums?

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Yeah? For a drum set?

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah, Oh, you're going to regret that one. No, I'm joking.
I'm joking. And also one hundred dollars Target gift card,
and a robe and pj's And for wife Nicole. Is
Nicole with you? Is she around right now?

Speaker 5 (09:12):
She is?

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Okay, I thought I heard some ruckus in the background.
Are the kids all around you right now too?

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, she's trying to make or breakfast. She's putting together lunch.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Okay, so she's busy. Well tell her we got first
of all, three bottles of red wine. I'm not making
this three bottles of red wine because she hopefully she'll
love that. Two hundred dollars gift card, a lot of
shopping at Target for your family, two hundred dollars home
goods gift card, bath salts, vacuum vacuum candles, fuzzy socks,
some other cool stuff. And then for you, Dan, But

(09:45):
we've got a couple of things. First of all, a
two hundred dollars Home Depot gift card. If you get
the urge to paint or fix or something. One hundred
dollars Gander Mountain gift card. One hundred dollars Dick Sporting
Goods gift card. This is all for you, for you,
for you and your family. Slippers and PJ and a
ring camera now again, a ring camera. Just something that's

(10:05):
you know, adds a little safety and security to the yard.
I've got one. I love it and if you need
any help installing it, Jenny will come over and help
you install.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
I'll try my best down, I'll try my best.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Are you making a lot of trips back and forth
for medical appointments? Stand? We are.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
We Fortunately we don't live too far away from where
the clinics are, so it's like we do make a
lot of trips, but it's within about fifteen to twenty miles.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Well. The reason I ask is because Christmas Wish is
presented by Holiday station stores and they're bringing you the
gift of ease by gifting you free gas for a year.
It's a gift card ready for you to use free
gas for a year. And just to let you know,
kind of a little sidebar. For every fuel purchase now
through December seventeenth, Holiday will donate a portion of sales

(10:57):
to Christmas Wish. So while you're out need to gas up,
you get a gas station on your left and a
holiday on your right. Pull into the holiday. Okay, yeah,
how are you? I don't want to get too personal
because it's none of my business. How are you holding up?
I mean, considering everything you and your family are going through,
how are you holding up?

Speaker 2 (11:19):
It was shocking to find out what my diagnosis Wasn't
my life expectancy and stuff like that a month ago
on November sixth, that would probably a day that will
always be in our family. And then to come home
and share with the girls, I'll come and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
That was just a day.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
That was a day that it was very hard. Since then,
I've just between family and friends, people like Casey, stuff
like that. I've just between prayer and stuff like that.
I've just I've had a and so just just peace

(12:03):
about everything. It's tough to think about that that I'm
not going to be able to be around as long
as I wanted to be and stuff. I'm also going
to be fighting as hard as I can do stay
around and give myself more time. But I've just kind

(12:26):
of had a piece about everything. And there's been so
many people in our lives that have been so helpful,
between dropping off meals and taking the girls for a
special day or just different just different things around that

(12:46):
has been so helpful.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
And I think that's kind of what we love about
Christmas wishes is just a little drop in the bucket.
It's just a little this and a little this, and
when come to somebody comes by with meals or takes
the girls for a day or whatever. It's just a
little help to make things a little bit easier. And
the people listening, you know, you will never probably get
to meet most of them, You and I may never
get a chance to meet. But from the bottom of

(13:09):
my heart, I just hope you have such a wonderful
Christmas with your family. And I'm so glad that we
got a chance to know you a little bit and
to hear about your girls and your wife, and we
just say God bless you and just have the best
possible Christmas under the circumstances. Dan and I will let
you say goodbye to Casey.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Thank you so much. Casey. It's to think of this
sort of thing that was very thoughtful and I just
appreciate it. And you're a great friend.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
We love you so much.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
You too.

Speaker 6 (13:47):
I hate cancer.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
I consume with my every thought.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Please join me in the cause to help Melissa in
her family this holiday season as she tries to get
her life to back to some sort of mom.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Melissa lost her high school sweetheart and best friend.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
I want nothing more for this family to have a
memorable first Christmas for Lundon.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
I can't imagine what two little children are thinking about
losing their mom.

Speaker 6 (14:08):
And she died among Non's houses, but they think it
was a broken heart.

Speaker 5 (14:11):
This type of cancer is very rare in London's chances
survival fifty percent with a seventy percent chance of relapse.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Was at home with their four daughters.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
You made two trips into the house, running up and
down the staircase to save their four daughters out.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Of the bird. Please help my granny my Christmas wish.

Speaker 6 (14:27):
I feel you, Chris Musa, you never same.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
If you If you'll let us, we'd like to brighten
your holiday a little bit as much as we possibly can,
with some help from your friends and people who listen
to Katie w B.

Speaker 6 (14:54):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
They got they wanted to help. So are sitting up
your entire family with new Bedsmas.

Speaker 6 (15:09):
Stays here side.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
See chander.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
Brand. She tries to say she's okay for everything.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
No, everybody wishes we could do more.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Oh my god, very much, Oh my gosh, this is
a miracle.

Speaker 6 (15:44):
Fill your hot.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Christmas wish on kd w B. If you want to
make a nomination, maybe you're now inspired. Maybe you think
of somebody who you could do a Christmas wish nomination for.
Let us know, how do you do that? Send your Basically,
you go to KWB dot com and send your nomination
that way, KTWB dot com slash wish and nominate somebody. Now,

(16:18):
I'll give you a couple of tips. We got to
keep it reasonable. Somebody has asked for a trip to
Disney World. You know what, keep thinking If you're like, yeah,
the family could really use a trip to Disney World.
I know they could. We do not have that kind
of budget. We wish we did, but think of something.
If they need a trip to Disney World, then maybe
they need something else a little bit more practical, like

(16:40):
presents for the kids or gas cards from holiday station
stores or you know, we do anything from like fixed cars.
We'll give some people an overnight hotel stay. We'll give
people dinners out target gift cards, things like that.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
Yeah, and we have done certain big items before. Depends
on the situation. Like I'm pretty sure we've done like
a washer and dryer before because people's washer and dryers
have been broken. And I think we've like partnered would Warner,
Sallion and lots of different places. So but yeah, like
Dave said, you got to keep it reasonable. We most
likely can't get anyone a car, unfortunately, oh unfortunately, but

(17:17):
we do the best we can.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
So think about if you think of somebody who needs
a car, maybe you think about, well, they probably need
something else too. And also here's another tip for you.
We got to keep them local. We've had nominations from
I think I was reading a bunch of wishes last night.
One was from Virginia, one was from California, and one
was from Michigan. And I love that people listen in
all these far off places, but we just don't have

(17:39):
the way to drive out there and give them a
Christmas wish. Other than that's kind of free game. If
you know somebody who needs something You cannot nominate yourself,
and the more details you give us, the more likely
your chance of it being nominated. Yes, of a being granted,
very much so. But go on KTWB dot com. Don't
donate today. Do not donate anything today, not today, not
today bought What are you saying? Because tomorrow Treasure Island

(18:03):
match day. So whatever you donate tomorrow and we're going
to start early in the morning, like six o'clock in
the morning. Let storry.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yeah, we'll start at six.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
And we're going to try to get like, I don't know,
if we get five thousand dollars with a match, that's
going to be Treasure Islands now on the hook for
another five thousand dollars.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Right, Treasure Island. We love them so much, but they
hate to see us coming on match day because we
are coming at them hard.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
All right.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
They're like, oh yeah, We're like, come on, guys, we
got lots of money, you got a match.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
That's funny. They love doing it and they are pulling
for you too. So what tomorrow will remind you match
day and more Christmas wishes? You got any questions on it,
send me a quick text at KDWB one, five, three,
nine two one. There are a lot of local business
owners who offer like, hey, I want to do this,
and I want to do this and whatever, and we try,
but a lot of the time is kind of hard
to coordinate. So the easiest thing is to make a

(18:49):
cash donation. So but I did get for example, brought
the shout out to Broadway Pizza, got over there. They
sent me like twenty Broadway Pizza one hundred dollars gift
cards to get out with Christmas wishes. Yeah, they're not
for you, Jennifer into a bunch.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
No, I know, I don't want any I want them
to all go to the families.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
But sindos in and we will be We read every
single one of them. Are we doing Monster's the Pot
in a minute?

Speaker 4 (19:17):
Yeah, we'll do that, coming up.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Okay, we'll take that, take a break, we'll come back
with Vnster in the Pot. Daily update. Anybody want to
give a Bailey? Anybody heard from Baiby this morning?

Speaker 4 (19:25):
Yes, she actually just texted me, but yeah, she was
texting me about work stuff. But yes, she's alive and
well I did tell her to not like worry about
the show, go get your rest and stuff. But The
update is just that she was very sick and she
went into urgent care yesterday and found out she had
a kidney infection. So she is taking the day off today.
Maybe she'll be off again tomorrow, but I know she's

(19:46):
got she got to prescribe something.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
I don't know how you get her a kidney injection.
It's like an antibiotic injection in her leg. And then
she had to go down to the CVS pharmacy to
pick up the drugs too. Hopefully she'll be doing better.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
She just thought they're g going wild, Like how how
does one get a kidney infection?

Speaker 1 (20:03):
I don't know, but it dims from a UTI? And
how do you get a UTI?

Speaker 4 (20:08):
Always? It doesn't.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
All.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Have you ever had a UTI?

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Dave, No, But I've had chlamydia before before, which yeah,
I don't have it now.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
I've never had chlamydia, but I have had a UTI
and they are awful. They're so awful you feel like
you got to pee every two seconds, and then you
go to the bathroom you can't.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
And it burns so well, that's on your enemy one afternoon. Yeah,
they have a.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
Great day off right now, if that's what's happening. To her.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Somebody asking you a text message just now, They said,
how far the cities are out of the cities are
you willing to go? Not that far, honestly, because there
are plenty of people here in the Twin Cities that
I would say probably no more than five ten miles
outside of the outer loop like this six ninety four
four to ninety four loop, no more than ten miles out.
So if you know somebody who lives in Hutchinson, we

(20:59):
love Hutchinson, We're just not able to drive out that far.
If you know somebody who lives in Hudson, maybe maybe
you know what I mean. And sometimes it really is
dependent on the wish it does. So if we look
at it and go, oh, we got to help this,
and then we'll drive a little bit farther. So we
kind of just you know, we'll play it by ear,
send that in. We'll be right back on. Katie'll be
