We definitely are hang on to bring it all together.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Don't don't tell me. Karina Filaskoz, Yes, is that you?
Speaker 1 (00:29):
It's me.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
I know I look a little bit different from last year,
but this is me.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, that's where I'm going. Christy James, is that Christy?
It's me, Martha, Christy, it's me. Martha.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Didn't recognize you. It's been so long, it's been like
a whole year.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
It's been so long. How long do you think that
joke can go on? But before we answer that, let
me let you know that this is Talk Talk with
Martha Quinn, the podcast that features the Morning Drive with
Christy Live Ladies in twenty twenty five, still the best
morning radio show, not just in the Bay Area, but
on the planet.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
They are Christy, that's me, Hello, I'm waving. And Karina
of Alaskas, Hello, I'm waving.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
That's funny, and we got, of course the Midday Mama Tita,
the original mtvv J.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
What Queen of the eighties. Hi, gentlemen, give it up.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Mo fuck queen.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Well, that was lovely. Welcome to episode number. Karen of
Alaskas is the keeper of the episode numbers two and
twenty eight, two.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Hundred and twenty eight.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
Christy, you said something so funny. You said like you
were waving, and we're on a podcast and people can't
hear you see us. They can hear us, hopefully they
can hear us.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
But when you're in your car and someone lets you
get over in front of them, don't.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
You always go Hi, thank you, thank you. They can't
hear you. Don't you always do that?
Speaker 1 (02:01):
I always do, And I am always the one to
do the wave, always always, And if it's something extra special,
like there's lots of traffic or hard merge, then I
roll the window down and give you the outside wave.
And that is putting some extra stank on it.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Extra and I always find what I'm saying, thank you,
thanks so much, thank you, thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
I'm like, okay, waiting, but that's good, the outside wave,
because then they could miss the.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Inside wave, the outside wave. Can't miss it, Nope, And
I want to make sure.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
But this is the first podcast of twenty twenty five
for Talk Talk with Marth Quinn. We thought we would
check up on the holidays, ladies.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
What did you do? What happened? What was the highlight
Christy for you?
Speaker 1 (02:46):
I think for me it was surprising one of my
really good friends, miss Mona. She's having a hard time
right now and she's just going through a lot of
life things. And I flew from San Francisco to India
Annapolis and picked her up, and we flew to New
Orleans and rented a car and drove to Baton Rouge
(03:08):
and then yeah, hung out because that's where she's from,
and then just kind of toured and just allowed her
to go back to her roots and hang out with
friends and family that she hadn't seen in a while.
And it was really refreshing for her and kind of
picked her up. That we tried to drive to Monroe
and caught in a tornado and then had to turn
around and then.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Change You tell me what that was like?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Raining, crazy rain and wind, and then we turned around
and then the tornado was coming back to Uge so
there was like rain and wind there, just crazy sleet rain.
And you're from the East coast, so I'm sure you've
experienced some crazy rain. But you know, we don't get
rain like that on the West coast, so it was
(03:52):
pretty insane. And yeah, but it was a good trip.
And then the next day it was bright and sunny,
which was great for our flight home.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
I always find that that's comforting to me when I
see those dramatic weather patterns, because I feel like it's
analogous for our mindsets.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
You know, when you feel like it's.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Raining and there's tornadoes and you can't see more than
one inch in front of your face within, you know,
if you're patient, the time will come when the sun
is out.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
That's what Oprah kind of says something similar. She always says,
you know, it's raining and storming down here, but you
catch a flight and you get above those rain clouds
and the sun is still shining. So just no, like
it's always shining there.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
I'm gonna have to wait.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
After every storm, there's a rainbow, yes, right, sometimes yeah,
and sometimes there's just wet sockets.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
You saw, because you're like, damn, I wore the wrong
shoes today and you're stepping in puddle.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yeah yeah, but yeah, that was a definite highlight for
me and my holiday. What about you, Martha Quinn? I
think I already know the answer, but.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Well, my two kids were home, it is, so we
had the best time and we actually, you know, my
kids like to do activities, unlike me and my husband,
we like to stay home. But we rose to the occasion.
Oh big time. We saw a movie on Christmas Day,
no Christmas Eve. We went and saw a complete unknown
(05:36):
about Dylan movie.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Okay, did either of you see that?
Speaker 4 (05:39):
No?
Speaker 3 (05:40):
But how is it?
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Because we saw usually when they play a lot of
commercials hyping up a movie, it's going to be trash
and so we were like, they're not awful lot of
commercials and that means one big weekend push for the
movie and then wow, So what do you think?
Speaker 4 (05:58):
I am very picky when it comes to biopics, I know,
because I feel like it's very hard to do a
biopic on somebody that we all know today. Like I
was quite critical of the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody
because I felt like Rommy Mellick did I say his name.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Corankly, he did not capture.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
I didn't feel Freddy's power, really power.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I didn't feel it.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I know everybody loved the movie, but I was sitting.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
There like, it's not they're not doing it. They're not
capturing it.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
But it's very hard.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
I liked the Elton John one, even though I thought
that was difficult as well. But with the Bob Dylan one,
I thought it was really good, really good.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
I like to be so hopeful, good, good, I'll go
see it.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, okay, great.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
My husband, my kids, we all enjoyed it. Okay, my son.
I admit he did fall asleep, but he woke up
about an hour into it.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
But it was all good.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
But we really liked it. I thought they did the
music really well. I thought that they told his story well.
I thought it introduced a lot of characters to current culture,
like people like Pete Seeger and Joan Baez and Woody
Guthrie who you might not know about today. But I
thought they did a good job of sort of giving
a nod to them, Peter Paul and Mary you know
(07:29):
who these people are in our folk culture past. And
I loved there was a scene of him Bob Dylan
walking either into or passed the Cafe WA, which fun fact,
was owned by David le Roth's uncle.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Really yeah, so there's a.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
David Lee Roth Bob Dylan connection. But I highly recommend it.
I thought it was really good.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Okay, yeah, yeah, And then Martha, they said Timothy Shallo
may that's all Timothy Chalomey's voice.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
I know that all him singing, and took.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Like years to try to capture his voice. But it's
good to know that it was a great movie because
neither one of us has seen it.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah, I thought it was good. I'd be curious to
know what you thought.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
And if you're listening right now, if you saw the
Dylan movie, what did you think?
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Let us know? And kreean of Alaskas, tell me about
your holiday.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Well, I wanted to find out more activities.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Yeah, I was like, are there any other activities or
just mo kids out of the house sometimes?
Speaker 3 (08:23):
So, do you guys go hiking or anything like that?
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Did we do let me look at my nose, hold on,
well look over, okay, because I did make a list.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Why don't you tell us what you did?
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Yeah? Well Christmas, we kept our holidays pretty chill. This
year Christmas Eve, for a change, me and my mom
made themalis. Tamali's are very time consuming and hard to make.
Christy's actually been over before and learn how to make
the mallis. So my sister who said let's make tamalis
a week before Christmas, and I'm like, I don't want
to do any work. Me, I don't want to do
(08:58):
any work. It takes too much work. But my own
older sister was adamant that we were gonna she was
gonna come help and make tamalis. Nope, So I got
stuck making tomalas with my mom. Of course, so we
made about seventy five tamalas.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Oh yeah, and they were delicious. They were amazing. They
tasted so good. Martha, you have no idea, And you
know what, I don't either, because ask me how many
I got?
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Forgot?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
I forgot?
Speaker 3 (09:26):
We ate them all.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
They were gone zero.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Zero for They were god friend.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
But it was nice to spend some time just making
these tamalas with my mom.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Seventy not a one?
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Seventy five Wow, tomali's. How many people were at your house?
Speaker 3 (09:46):
There was there was only like maybe I don't know,
maybe ten of us.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Oh were they very teeny tiny? No tomalies.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
No, they were a pretty good portion.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Oh they were.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
So everybody just had a whole bunch, not me, law
gorging themselves one after the next.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
See what happened was what happened was But yeah, my
brother in law's niece came over with her baby. He's
an eight month old baby, so that was nice. We
haven't seen him since he was pretty much born. So
they came over and hung out with us, and we
ate tomorrow. So that was a nice Christmas. And then
(10:27):
Christmas Day we all went to my sister's house. That
was pretty chill, and she made this Mexican soup called
called pole, which is also a very time consuming, and
we did some karaoke, we played games with the kids
and it was really chill. And then New Year's Eve
was also chill. We just hung out at my sister's house,
me and my sister and my brother in law and
(10:47):
watched the what's it called the nash Chill, the Nashville Countdown,
the Dick Clark Countdown, all the countdowns, and then we
did some karaoke.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
It was it was very mellow, but I liked it well.
I also did some.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
We have a hot tub and we got a little
it's like a teeny tiny fire pit. It's barely bigger
than a coffee can. And as my daughter Annabelle says,
marshmallows are so you know.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Twenty twenty four, we had our.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Little sticks and we took sour dough bread and we
tore off hunks of sour dough bread and put them
on our sticks and toasted the sour dough bread over
the flame in our hot tub that I had brought
out some vegan butter.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
So we're making like hunks of toast.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
And then we put our little butterish substance on them,
and then we're having that really super fun like.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Kind of like fond do in a sense, but with
vegan butter.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
It's more like roasted marshmallows because you're not dipping it
into a liquidity substance.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
You're roasting it.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
You're toasting it over the flame, over the open flame.
So that's that's something that we cooked, which I did
feel like, oh, this is so our family.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Marshmallows is too much sugar. We can just do sour
dough bread. That's better, and everybody went for it.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
We also did a little bit of karaoke, which was
really fun. And we did watch Country Bear Jamboree and
It's a wonderful life. But here in the house, I mean,
we kind of packed a lot of activities. I have
to say, that's great.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Great, And I have to know people are gonna want
to know what were the karaoke songs? What did you sing?
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Martha?
Speaker 4 (12:36):
I sang a song. Me and Annabelle sang backup vocals
to my son. He was taking lead. He was the
John Denver in Taking Country Roads. Yeah, Annabella and I
were like in the background singing like we were like
the juds.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
And it was really fun. It was really really fun.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Video or didn't happen. I'm just kidding.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Oh, then it didn't happen. I'm just making it up.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
And what about Jordan.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
He did not sing karaoke?
Speaker 4 (13:07):
I did not.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
We had a really good time. We went to the
gym a couple times.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Oh my god, really, I'm telling you we knocked it out.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
If it comes in activities, well that is awesome. I'm
glad that you had a good holidays. And now on
to twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Yeah, one thing that happened in the world, which I
thought was so interesting.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Which do you ladies want to hear about?
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Do you ladies want to hear about the pregnant sheep
or do you ladies want to hear about the dog
who rang the doorbell?
Speaker 2 (13:39):
I want to hear about the dog who rang the doorbell.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Sure, let's go dog, Okay?
Speaker 4 (13:43):
So for I mean this was you heard a little
bit about what happened to me and Christine Karna over
the holidays here on the episode of Talk Talk with
Martha Quinn that is also known as episode number two
hundred and twenty eight, twenty eight. But I thought i'd
mentioned something that happened out in the world World, which
is in Florida. A family had a dog, Athena. She
(14:05):
was missing for nine days, kind of a Husky shepherd mix.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Nine days.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
This dog's missing Christmas Eve. They have this captured on
the ring camera footage Christmas Eve. The dog comes running
down the street of the neighborhood because other people had
footage too, you know that show like the progress of
the dog, and the dog goes up to the house,
jumps up on the door and I don't know if
it knows to do this or it accidentally did this,
(14:32):
but it rang the doorbell on Christmas Eve. The mom
of four kids goes downstairs and sees the dog ringing
the doorbell on Christmas Eve.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
So that's an amazing story.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
That is really really cool, and it's a great Christmas
Eve for them, especially if they lost their dog. Ah,
that is nice.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
I could you imagine Christmas morning like we got our
dog back, Like that's the ultimate Christmas present.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
If you're the mom in the garage to surprise your kids.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
She didn't want to wake up the kids, but the
dog was making so much noise. Okay, they heard and
all the kids came down and they were very excited.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
So yeah, I thought that was.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
A fun story, you know, of all the things that
happened over the holidays, that was a fun story, a
little sparkle on the landscape of things that happened.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
So that's it. Thank you for checking out episode number
