Speaker 1 (00:00):

Speaker 5 (00:27):
Welcome to Talk Talk with Martha Quinn. This is the
podcast that unites the Morning Drive with Christy Live crew,
Christy and Karina of Alaskaz. And I'm jumping right into it.
I'm Martha Quinn just because I wish I want to
take you inside what just happened if you were watching
just now. As soon as Christie starts to riff like
she's going into her welcome back hotterer thing, and I

(00:50):
wish you could see Karina because she is such a supporter. Karina,
You're such a supporter. Karina automatically starts like silently like
dancing like she's she's like there for it. You know,
she's there for it.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
I'm her hype person, you are.

Speaker 5 (01:07):
What were those two little girls that Ellen used to have, Sophia,
Grace and Rose And one was the lead and the
other was the hype girl. And that's what you are.
You're the hypegirl, Christy's the you know, it's Morning Drive
Christie Live. Because of that dynamic. The morning show that
these two ladies put on. Morning Drive of Christie Live

(01:30):
heard from six to ten in the Bay Area and
elsewhere on the iHeartRadio app Jason Listens in Australia. It
is what I like to call the best morning show,
not just in the Bay Area but on the planet.
You get all kinds of features like the Crazy Train
and news you can use and Karna's family drama. So
check it out.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
It's the best morning show.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
So this is when we get to all hang out
because we kind of have you know, They're in the
studio from six to ten. Then I come in after
I clean up the mess. No, totally just kidding seriously.
Then I'm on from ten to three. Okay, what episode
of this of our Talk Talk with Mark Quinn podcast
is this Kaarina of Alaskas.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Two hundred and thirty three.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
Dang, two hundred and thirty three. That's amazing, So h
what is the topic of episode number two hundred and
thirty three?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Ladies, we maybe should.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Have, you know, given this little go round before we
turned on the microphones. But here we are here, we
are Wow. What is the Creedive Alaskas?

Speaker 4 (02:33):
We've got to talk about because the podcast has been
gone for about two weeks, But welcome back, Martha Quinn.
You were on vacation and we want to hear about it.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Yes, well, accepting all questions, I was on my vacation.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
It was kind of a mission. Really.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
We were in New Zealand at my daughter's destination wedding
and it was so incredibly beautiful, true to you know,
Martha Quinn family style. It was a true Boho wedding.
It was out in the woods. It's almost like you

(03:14):
know the scenery that you picture snow white in. It
was kind of like that, you know, the woods, and
it's like there was birds tweeting and hearts going around.
It was really beautiful.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Was it an impromptu wedding or was it planned to
be in the woods.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Basically take us.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Into Okay, we're getting on a plane. I'm sure that
was an ordeal in of itself, and then start for
your vacation.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Break it down.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Okay, Well, everything actually went fine with the flight. There
was no big snaff foos. I did attempt to order,
you know, you can order a variety of vegan meals.
It was on sort of United slash Air New Zealand,
and they give you all kinds of choices like Hindu vegan,

(04:04):
Asian vegan. I ordered the vegan gine version Jai n
which is a religion where they're super into kindness to animals,
like they don't even eat root vegetables because in order
to pull up a carrot or an onion or a
piece of garl, like you know, out of the ground
or potato, it disturbs the little creatures living in the dirt.

(04:28):
So I ordered the giant meals.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
But I was not that good.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
I call be honest with you.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Next time, I wouldn't do that. It was just very steamed, mushy.
But so that was all fine. They as you know,
Annabelle and Andrew got married in Las Vegas in August
of twenty twenty three. Andrew is from overseas and his family,
they have a lot of family in New Zealand and
they all couldn't be at the wedding. Only his parents

(04:56):
were there in Las Vegas. But he's got a brother,
he's got a sister, got a million cousins. You know,
there's a lot of their family that couldn't be at
the wedding, so they wanted to have a family gathering
for his friends and relatives to be there. Annabelle's friends
from her growing up weren't in Las Vegas as well,

(05:17):
and it was pretty amazing how many people from her world,
like kids that she grew up with. Kids she went
to UCLA with my two brothers, my cousin to my
nieces were there. It was really I know, everybody went
a really long way, which was so moving to me.
So it was really beautiful and his family was great.

(05:40):
And guess what the cap of the whole thing. The
wedding cake was vegan and gluten free. I wish I
had ten pieces because when else am I going to
have that opportunity.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Wow. I didn't realize that many people went.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I was thinking it was going to be another small
group like what you had in Las Vegas, because I
crashed that wedding party.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
I wish you crashed this one.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
How was the so if it was a vegan and
gluten free cake, what like flavor?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Was it almost.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Like a spice cake? Maybe sort of spie you know
what I mean by spice cake? Sort of not vanilla,
not carrot cake, like a spice cake, like cinnamony or something.
Andrew's sister and her husband, I'm trying to get this right.
They are former Hari Krishna's and so that's part of
their world. And they catered the whole wedding. They volunteered,

(06:38):
they cooked.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
It was so amazing.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
Maybe they cooked everything. It was really a community effort.
That wedding was beautiful.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
That's so cool.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I'm glad that everyone got to experience it. Did you
get to do any touring around or visiting New Zealand places?

Speaker 2 (06:54):
We did.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
We went to Wahiki Island. That was the first place
we went, which was beautiful. It was kind of like
very hilly and funky, like cool, funky little market. And
we went to a lot of wineries. We went to
so whiskey.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Oh yeah, you would love it. We went to a
whiskey place, just a whiskey distillery. Well, what kind of
crops do you grow? I think it's sparley. Is that
a crop? I think it might be wheat.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
It is whiskey whatever it is, something about whiskey.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
And we were there. We were so excited.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
It was really fun and I had to make a speech,
and my advice for somebody who is making a speech
as the mother of the bride, Christy, I was wishing
that I had checked with you, because you see a
lot of weddings a lot, So what do you see
mothers of the bride generally doing. Let me see if

(07:53):
I did any of that.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
A lot of it is sitting there while their husband
makes the speech. So I love that you actually made
the speech. They basically come up and then they tell
stories about their daughter or their son growing up, and
then they'll say, you know, it's been you know, a
long time, I've always dreamed of this moment. And then
they'll shout out and say some nice words about the

(08:16):
groom or the significant other and then welcome them to
the family, and then that's it.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
That's so sweet. It's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Dry.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
The friends usually are the ones that go crazy.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Well, Andrew's dad did a lot of that, you know,
when Andrew was two. He did this, when he was four,
he did this when he was six, he did that
when he was ten. He did that. That kind of
threw me because I didn't fully expect that. But I
had a different approach. What I did was I had
a secret weapon which is when Andrew asked my husband

(08:50):
and I, which was very sweet because it's a tradition,
like we didn't observe asked us for permission to ask
for Annabelle's hand in marriage, huh.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
In that moment.

Speaker 5 (08:59):
You know, it's often you don't understand a moment until
it happens to you. And we were like, oh, yes,
you know, you guys get along so well and we've
seen you, you know, do this different continent thing for
a long long time and your relationship is really hung strong,
and we are fully here for it, and absolutely yes,
we think it's a great idea. And as soon as

(09:21):
my husband hung up the phone, I felt like the
ground almost falling away beneath me, like, oh, I understand
now what's happening. Like he's asking us for permission to
take the baton and be the person who looks out
for her and guides her and loves her like we do.
Like he's looking to be her emergency contact. And I

(09:45):
felt like, oh, wait a second, wait a second, wait
a second, I need one more piece of information. And
I called him and I said I called him back,
and I said, listen, I know I don't have to
ask you this, but as her mom, this is my baby,
this is my pride, and Joy, I need you to
tell me what she means to you and that you
will treat her like gold. And I felt in that

(10:08):
moment like she deserved a mom who would ask for
that information, and that she deserved a husband who would provided.
And he sent me an amazing email where he talked
about how much she meant to him. I asked him,
do you mind, and he said no. And I knew
that Annabelle had heard about this email, but she had

(10:32):
never heard it herself. For some reason, she never she
didn't want to hear it. She just knew that it
had happened, so I knew that I was leading in
that direction. One thing that I like that I did
is I opened up by, you know, shouting out the
different families and saying, you know, when annabel and Andrew
have children, they will forever write us down on the

(10:54):
family tree. We're all on the family tree now joined together,
which I thought was a really nice angle. And I
talked about how Annabelle has an amazing quality in that
she fills the sales of your soul with your potential.
And then I talked about what I just told you
about Andrew asking us for permission, and then I read

(11:17):
his email, so that's.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Kind of how it went. That is amazing. I love it.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Well, I'm glad that was a wonderful trip and you
got back safely and that they're going to live happily
ever after and give you grandkids hopefully soon.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
How was the food in New Zealand. I'm just curious.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
Yeah, it was good, but you know, we basically eat
tofu wherever we go, so it's a question of how
do they prepare prepare the tofu a lot of I'm
sure the local New Zealand Fair there's a lot of
Probably I'm going to guess Lamb because they have a
lot of sheep over there, and you know, we don't
eat any of that stuff. So but we loved it.

(11:56):
The food that was prepared by andrew sis and brother
in law, it was amazing. They made like different curries
with vegetables and tofu and all that kind of stuff.
So for us, it was great. It was really good.
I love that we didn't have any wine either. You know,
the wine in New Zealand is really good, but we
didn't have any wine.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
I hear that the wine is really really good out
in New Zealand, and I think it's Australia as well.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
New Zealand definitely for sure, So.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
I'll go to and find out. Well, like I said,
welcome back, Yeah, welcome back. We're glad you had a good.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Time and congratulations Anna Bell and Andrews.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Thank you. You know how we feel. We love the love.
We always love the love.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Well, I've said this eight million times, but Christy and Karna,
thank you both for covering for me. You know it's hard.
It's hard, you know, and you I know when I'm
putting in for two weeks away. Yeah, I know what
that means. It's like me ring ring iting, ring iting,
ring iting. Hi, Christy, do you mind covering for me?

(13:04):
And I know it's a lot for you and I
so appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Of course, it's all good. It's always a good time.
I always say that when I'm covering for you, and
I mean it. It's fun.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
So it's fun.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Yeah, it's a good crew that joins in for our middays. Yes,
all right, that's it. We will see you next week
for the next episode of Talk Talk with Martha Quinn,
which is going to be I think Krina. It'll be
what four hundred and fifty eight and two thirty four
