Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yes, you.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Know you, John, Jay and Rich How do we get
to that conversation about promise rings?
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Do you remember and the Payton.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
We had something call up and she was upset there
her boyfriend gave her a promise r.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Right then Payton said she would not she would dump
to deem if he got her a promise ring, right,
And we said no, you would not, right, Brian, Good morning,
what's up man?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Your thoughts on the promise ring?
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Hey, good morning guys. I uh yeah, I was listening
together the podcast this morning and heard Peyton's response to
the promise ring and just kind of thought, isn't a
ring a ring? A ring like promise or engagement? Can
he give you an engagement ring and still call it
off or give you a promise ring and still marry you?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
That's a valid question, Brian. Yeah, I think when you
phrase it like that, I think it could go both ways.
But I feel like there is a difference between a
promise ring and an engagement ring. And I think the
reason I had my reaction was because I am waiting
for that engagement ring and if he gave me a
promise ring to me, that would be like a slap
in the face.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Like, how dare you so he's he he would be
devaluing the relationship for where it is right now.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
It's like it's taking it back, and it's taking it
back like five steps. Okay, yeah, absolutely, does that make sense, Brian?
I think it does.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
But doesn't an engagement ring thou to promise to marry
you or take it to the next level where, like
I think I agree with rich where a lot of
guys don't think like that. But I think it's just
the perspective of the giver and the receiver because you
can still get a ring and he can still cheat
on you. And you're like, wait, I have a ring.
You promised to be bowled to me? You gotta Yeah, I'm.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
With you, Brian, I had I had a promise ring before.
I think That's why I have such a hard stance
on it.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Oh and they didn't follow through obviously, Yeah they were trashed.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
That didn't happen. No, I'm not married, right.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
A couple of comments on the text line about this.
By the way, somebody says a promise ring is a
commitment to say, hey, babe, I want you forever, but
I'm broke af.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
So don't leave me till I can afford the ring
you want it.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
You know what if if somebody gave if Kadeam said
that to me, I'd be like, I get it, Okay,
I could accept it. But if you're just saying I
promised to marry you one day, scram.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Another phone of you, another point of view, another text.
It says John Jay Richard promise ring. I had a
promise ring for five years. We've been together for ten
this year. Coming from that, I think it postponed an
engage your ring because I quote had a ring. Yep,
that's now, Brian, I gotta tell you this real quick.
So when I was in college, I worked at the
check cashing place. I would catch checks and I would
(02:35):
have to answer the phones all the time. And I
got to the point where I was just having so
much fun answering the phones that I was changing. I
would change my voice all the time, just until I
found a voice that I was comfortable with.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
You follow me so far?
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yes, all right?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
So then I saw this movie starring Robin Williams called
Cadillac Man, and some guy comes in on the dealership
and starts shooting up the dealership, and the phone starts
ringing and Robin Williams answer the phone and goes, good
morning Turgonado. And so, now, if you guys have listened
to the show, whenever I answer the phone, sometimes I
like to go good morning John Jay and Rich, and
I'm making a weird voice.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
You are that voice, Brian. You sound just like that good.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Morning John jaye Ye right.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, you're talking like the way when I just go
good morning John Jay and Rich because you're like, hey
John Jay and Rich, it's Brian.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
I'm gonna talk about brad J. Do you work at
a library.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
No. The funny thing is I used to be a
nine one dispatcher and everyone was like, god, you can
take the craziest calls. But on the radio you were
the calmest voice. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
I bet, I bet that's true. You were a nine
one one guy. So have you what kind of causes
you get? Is nine one one?
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Oh you you name it, it's probably come through. I've
answered thousands and thousands of calls.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
You got a very soothing voice. I bet you calmed
them down right for sure. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Is there any calls to stick with you? Like you're
laying in bed at night and you go, oh my god,
I remember that. I hope I gave them the right advice.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
I try not to relate that much because then it
would definitely eat you alive in that profession. So I
kind of it's not one that I mean, you know,
the kidtle calls definitely stand out so many that you're like,
oh man, I don't want.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
To what about stupid one?
Speaker 2 (04:06):
You're a guinny where it's like, yeah, hey man, I
got this pizza in there, and it's not it's taking
too long.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
There's there's some that actually will call and be like, hey,
I need help. I don't know if you've heard the
one online where they call him they're like, I need
help with my homework.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, yeah, but I'm talking about you, not online.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
No, right, But they'll call and be like, I can't
find something in my house. Can you send somebody to
help me? Because they know if you call that one,
someone's gonna answer. They're gonna think your problem, whatever it is,
What do you do now, Brian, I'm a firefighter?
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Oh right on.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Well, Brian, appreciate you for calling in and listening and participating,
and thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
I appreciate you guys. Thank you
