Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Valentine's Day, the day of all things a more
hearts and chocolates and flowers and all that other stuff.
Do you have a special Valentine this year, someone that's
spoiling you, or that you're gonna give the royal treatment
to and spoil them in return. In my house, Valentine's
(00:26):
Day means heart shaped pancakes. We always start the day
with heart shaped pancakes and strawberries for breakfast, heart shaped
sandwiches for lunch. I have a heart shaped cookie cutter
and I just cut the sandwiches out, and then we
finished the day with red mashed potatoes for dinner. Sometimes
we have heart shaped cookies or sometimes we have cupcakes
(00:49):
with red food die, which is bad for you. On
my radio program and on my podcast, I celebrate love
all the year through not just the romantic love, in fact,
honestly mostly the non romantic kind of love, because romantic
love is just a small part of the spectrum of love.
(01:11):
There's love that we have for our family, for our friends,
for our children, our grandchildren, the friend that we brought
into the fold and consider family, and I encourage others
to do the same. Love is truly what makes the
world go around, but you've got to begin with yourself,
and then you have to honor the loving relationships in
(01:35):
your life, not just the romantic ones. Start by giving
yourself grace, Grace acknowledge that nobody is perfect, and you
don't have to be either. Take that pressure off your shoulders.
You don't have to be perfect. Pour the same amount
of energy into making sure your needs are met as
(01:58):
you pour into meeting the needs of others. Getting enough sleep,
eating well, exercising your body and your brain. This is
self love and in no way can be construed as
selfish or narcissistic when you take care of yourself, when
you say no, I can't do that, because you've planned
a day to take care of you, a day to
(02:19):
go for a hike or a bike ride. It's all
necessary to being your best self and having enough energy
in your reserves to care for the others that you love.
And this Valentine's Day, if there's no one to bring
you flowers, treat yourself by the chocolates, dance in the kitchens,
celebrate all the love you've ever felt and all there
(02:41):
will be in the future. My guest today will lend
a hand. She's a five time Grammy Award winning legend
and the best selling female artist in country music history.
Shania Twain is threading into three with a brand new album,
Queen of Me that was just released on February third.
(03:02):
It is her sixth original full length offering, her first
since ten, and the official debut for her new partner,
Republic Nashville, a division of Republic Records. I'm making her
first single from the album, giddy Up, my anthem for
this year, I Think You Should too. Giddy Up rides
out of the Gate. It's a fiery, flirty fund chorus
(03:26):
Taylor made for singing and dancing along as always a
showcases her show stopping range and undeniable charisma. It's been
a while since I was able to chat with Shania,
and I can't wait to hear all about this new
music and her tour schedule. We'll get to that right
after I tell you about one of the beautiful sponsors

let's go girls, Shania. I didn't think that they're was
(05:00):
ever going to be a line better than the than
the line Let's go girls when it comes to, you know,
motivating we women to kick it into high girl. And
now you've you've gone and outdone yourself. Well coming from you,
that's a great compliment. I mean, is there anything that's
going to be more fun than hearing across the nation
(05:21):
than gidea up? Oh my gosh, I think that that
that puts them up in your giddy It does when
when Diana sent me the song, I only listened to
like thirteen seconds of it and I called her back.
I'm like, oh my god, this is fun. So then
we had to listen to it together. I didn't think
(05:42):
anything could be more fun than than what you've done
in the past, but you have outdone yourself. Thank you
so much. Yeah, I enjoy I enjoy it. Um, it's
a perk It's a perk up. It is such a
perk up. And I can't wait to come and see
you when you're on tour so I can wear my
boots because I have the boots to get you up in.
(06:04):
It's hard to find boots that fit me because I
have like really um extra large feet, And I got
the boots, but I ain't got no place to get
you up now. I got the song, I got the
theme song, I got the boots. I'm ready. I love it. Shania,
Welcome to love Someone today. I haven't talked to you
(06:24):
in a while, and I wish that our listeners could
see you because damn you look good. Oh thank you girlfriend,
you look fabulous. Thanks. So you go on tour in
April with your your new tour, Queen of Me that's it.
Queen of me. That's what I gotta say these days,
(06:45):
for sure. So tell us about that, tell us about
what it feels like to to realize you are the
queen of you. Yeah, well, you know that's the goay
to put it, because it is a realization. Um. It's
like the song Giddap. I mean, you know, during COVID,
I'm like, Okay, it's time to put some spice back
(07:07):
in your life and some half in your step. I mean,
cheer up. Um, I'm telling myself this right. So I'm like, Okay,
I love to be isolated. I love being in the
middle of the forest with nobody around. I'm I'm my
most creative when I'm sitting with my guitar alane writing songs.
(07:28):
But the forest isolation and all the confusion with COVID
and you know, the two real solid years of when
is this going to end? Is it gonna end? Um?
You know, is my family gonna be okay? And what
about my friends? What about the world? Okay. So I'm
now saying my songwriting is more of myself out place
(07:52):
than ever before. I've got to use it to cheer up.
So I started writing songs that make me want to.
I would literally laugh and smile writing some of the lyrics.
I would get up and want to dance. I made
things more a beat. So I was taking control of
my frame of mind and using my creativity to release
(08:17):
my imagination and just escape. So the Queen of Me
really represents me taking responsibility for my frame of mind
and setting those boundaries, saying you have to decide for
yourself when you've had enough being discouraged and feeling down
(08:41):
and feeling stressed about this, and when to snap out
of it. So you know, when for me was when
I'm alone with my guitarn and getting creative. Wow, you
just had a whole mouthful that I think speaks to
our hearts across all levels, whoever you are, wherever you are.
(09:03):
However COVID did or didn't affect you, life affects us.
And what you just said about you've got to take
control of setting those boundaries and deciding your mindset. It's
so good and it's so true, and I so forget that.
But you know, because I think when we think of boundaries,
(09:24):
we I do anyway, I think about sending boundaries two others,
like you know, putting out the message that this is
a boundary, don't cross that boundary, which okay, is fair enough,
but I think it starts with setting your boundary, your
boundaries for yourself, saying when is it time to reset,
(09:46):
recognizing when you've got to reset, Yeah, and when you've
got to sleep, or when you've got to eat healthier,
when you've got to decide, Okay, I'm tired of not
feeling good. I'm gonna start working out, I'm gonna start exercise,
and I'm going to get back on the bike. We
have to take ownership of that and we cannot rely
on anyone else to do it. So that's independence. That
(10:09):
is what independence is. You know, don't rely on your
spouse or your kids or your friends to snap you
out of it. You've got to find your own tools.
So I mean, luckily for me, it's easier seth and done. Maybe,
and I wouldn't be a good psychia because I don't.
I'm not saying that I have the answers. But for me,
(10:30):
one of my tools is being creative and and that's
where I just let my imagination go and then i'm
you know, I escape and then all of a sudden,
I feel better and I'm also writing myself into my
frame of mind. I love it. I love it well.
I love the music you've got the new album out.
I can't wait to come and see you on tour,
(10:51):
not just because I want to wear my boots, but
because I want to give you a hug and tell
you how damn proud I am of you. You've been
through stuff and you look better than ever. Your smile
is radiant. I wish our listeners could see that. And
the energy and this new music is is your best
(11:12):
stuff yet It's fun and I I needed. I mean
writing like happy uplifting music. This isn't happy and uplifting.
It's kick ass and a kick ass two. It's attitude,
of course, yeah yeah, happy en uplifting is one thing.
(11:33):
But the songs I've listened to your new stuff is
kick ass. It's like, come on, let's go get up.
But we gotta do this, We gotta make it happen.
Ain't nobody's gonna get you off that couch, but you
come on. I know, you know, we always talk about
like kicking someone's ass, right, but we we've got to
kick our own ass. Put your boots on and kick
(11:54):
your own ass at least start there. Start with yourself.
I guess, are you still riding horses? Oh yes, oh yes,
yeah yeah. I ride every day that I can. Um.
(12:16):
I love it. I know you do. I have a
friend that got to be your bodyguard years ago when
you were on tour. While you were riding. His job
was to kind of guard you had you trailered your
horse and it was here locally and uh and he said,
if people think you're beautiful on stage, they should see
(12:39):
you on the back of a horse. Oh my gosh,
I'm going to remember that compliments when I have a
rainy day when I have an ugly horse. Tap. Yeah.
He said. If if people think she's beautiful on stage
all made up and looking hot, they should see her
on the back of a horse. You are poetry in motion,
he said, out lovely. When I ride, it's not that beautiful,
(13:03):
but boy does it feel good. It's so liberating. And
it's very humbling as well, because I mean, there's such
a big, strong animal. They could throw you off, they could,
and then they do they have Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's happened.
I had to tone it down a lot. You know, listen,
they there there, they have a mind of their own.
(13:24):
They're big animal and when you can um enjoy I mean,
because they have there on a whole other level of athleticism.
I mean, we just so it's so liberating to be
on a horse, moving in st you know, in in
sync with this incredible being. Yeah, I love it. So
(13:45):
will you do what you've done in the past and
bring a horse along on your tour and go ride
between sets. This will not work for me on this
tour because of the way the shows are laid apart,
and it's not really good weather. You're you're leaving in April,
which in some parts of the country you're lovely, and
in other parts of the country are you still getting snow?
(14:05):
It's true, it's just not the kind of tour that
I can take the horse with me on. But uh,
I will just have to shoot in another way. Maybe
I just got to meet some people along the way
that have horses. I'll find a way, you know, even
if I just kiss some horse noses. I'm fine, And
I can't wait to come and see you on tour.
(14:26):
And I want folks to download your new music and
gett up. They should, they should get ye up and
get a copy and whenever they need motivation because it's
out now. Uh, just crank it up when you're do
in your house where, crank it up when you're hanging
out with your teenagers. Crank it up absolutely, when you
feel like dancing, when you need to be cheered up,
when you need to put some spice in your life. Man,
(14:47):
you gotta just gide up. Is definitely one of those.
For sure. I think the whole album will hopefully be
uplifting for everyone out there. That was the intention. Oh
and the other thing I need to hear from everybody
because I need to know which ones to put in
the show list. I mean time is like kicking. I
(15:08):
need to know. So you haven't got the list that's
gonna be taped to the floor at your toe. Yet
we get to help do this exactly. I have the
core of the show list because I want to include
the classics, but I need to know what are the
maturity favorites, so I can, you know, make sure we're
(15:28):
in this. Uh and where should they send their vote?
Like to Shania dot com? Like where exactly? Yeah? And
I dot com it can be Um, this is gonna
be fun. Yeah, this is gonna be fun. You can
call Delilah. You can tell her there we go there. Oh,
this is gonna be fun. We get to help build Shanias.
I want to see your costumes. I want to see
(15:51):
your costumes because I know they're going to be gorgeous.
I'm still working on those two. I love that part.
It's really fun. Um, it's it's fun to play with.
I don't know. There's something about stepping into you know,
like even me, if I'm getting on the horse, stepping
into my boots, I just start getting into the mode,
(16:12):
you know, I start getting into the spirit. There's something
about just the vibe of of what you're gonna wear.
You know, you're getting out to go dance, you're gonna
put on you know, you're thinking about what you're gonna wear.
So yeah, I'm doing that already with the show. But
I'm not there yet. I may even like switch it
up a bit expect that. Actually, Okay, Well, I think
for a lot of us who are moms or in
(16:34):
my case, I'm still momming and I'm grand momm ng.
You know I've got both going on simultaneously. Wow. Being
able to get up and get dressed and get you
up a little bit. It's gonna be fun. It's gonna
be fun. It's gonna be very fun. And you know,
sharing the album took longer than I wanted because of
(16:59):
COVID and being able Like for me, I didn't want
to do the sessions on zoom. Um so by the time,
so where did you record it? Well? I recorded in
various places, but I rounded up the album in London. Wow,
because at that point in the album that was the
only time I could get together with an actual handful
(17:20):
of people at the same time. Wow, I was. I
still had to quarantine when I got there. But once
I was all good, I was able to be in
a room with you know, five people at a time.
It was, it was, it was awesome. So that really,
that's really when it all came together. But you know,
I've been waiting longer than I expected, long listen covid
(17:42):
lass longer than and even expected. A week would have
been too long for all of us, I know, But
um so, does it feel like you've been pregnant for
three years trying to birth this project, this album and
this tour. That's a good way to put it. That's
a really good way to put it. So now I'm
bursting at the scenes and when I got out there,
it will be very celebratory and because of the nature
(18:04):
of the purpose behind writing this type of song, um
to cheer myself up. It's a very uplifting and very upbeat,
very danceable. So yeah, I think I'm just gonna have
a really great time, super danceable. I'm going to tell
all my girlfriends right now, download Shania's latest song and
(18:25):
get the album, and get tickets to the tour and
get boots that are comfy because you're gonna want to
dance on them, and you're gonna wanna You're gonna want
to like take giddy Up as your own theme song.
It's gonna be all of our theme song. You know
that for this year? That a lot of people. The
first week of the year, people were saying, Delilah, what's
your word for the year? Like, what's your word? What's
(18:47):
your word? Is it empowerment? Is it this? But whatever?
I'm like, my word is just not to go crazy
on my kids. Okay, okay, that's my theme for the year.
Number one. Yeah, is to not lose is it with
my kids? Because I'm I'm too grumpy to be raising
you know, young kids. Anymore, and so I have to
(19:08):
deep breath, deep breath. But my song for the year
is going to be giddy app Awesome. I love it.
I love it, I love it. I think, you know,
focusing on whatever triggers your resets to happiness and to
uh chroopiness. As corny as that sounds, you've got to
use that tool man, whatever that do. I think what
(19:32):
we should do is have a dance off. I think
we should have women record themselves, especially those of us
that are you know, a little bit over forty, record
ourselves dancing and then put it on social media hashtag
giddy app and just have like a dance off. What
do you think? I love the dance off idea. I
also want to hear what puts the up in your kitty?
(19:58):
What puts the see If you ask that to a
fifteen year old or a twenty year old, it's going
to be somebody with like abs. You know that, Well,
that's okay, I mean, whatever it is. We're catching up
with legendary Shania Twain. I'm so grateful for my podcast
sponsor that helps bring these conversations to you and helps
(20:18):
you see things a little more clearly. If you're going
to wear glasses. There's one brand of frames I recommend
you have to look for it, but it's worth it.
The brand is called Eyes of Faith Optical. I discovered
this brand, I fell in love with their style of frames.
I wear them every day now and get so many compliments.
(20:41):
It was only after I discovered the beauty of their
frames did I discover the subtle message hidden on the
inside of every frame, a scripture from the Bible. Their
purpose is not only to provide you with a great frame,
but to help others too. Eyes of Faith the Optical
shares a generous amount of the money they earn to
(21:03):
improve the lives and eyesight of so many others, many
of them less fortunate than you. And I see their
frames and choose the ones that make you feel great
when you wear them. Eo F Optical dot Com is
their website. You're gonna love what you discover EO F
Optical dot Com. You know by our age, We're like, okay,
(21:28):
we'll our happiness is not going to be found in
the perfect man. Our happiness, at least for me and
my girlfriends were like, we're in charge of our happiness,
you know, yes, yeah, don't rely on anyone else for that. Yeah, absolutely,
look to yourself and you better be there for yourself. Amen,
me there when you knock. You know what I'm saying,
(21:49):
I do when you search yourself, you better be there. Well,
I can't wait to see you. You look fabulous and
I know the tour is going to be fabulous. And
I thank you well, thank you, And it's so good
to see your smile. Like, I'm so glad we got
to see each other. I know, well good, I'm so happy.
I'm happy to talk to you. And you've actually cheer
(22:10):
me up. You're such a positive person. I really appreciate it.
Thank you, God bless you have a fabulous tour. And
this is gonna drop on Valentine's Day, and every Valentine's
Day people say, oh, I don't know. I love in
my life. By yourself. Flowers, Go get flowers, put them
on your table. Make yourself happy exactly. I like that.
(22:34):
You know, there's nothing wrong with a little pity party
every once in a while. You know I do do
that sometimes. Um, But like I said, it's about the boundaries. Okay,
So okay, how much pity can I how much self
pity can I take? Set the boundary and then when
you get there, snap out of it. We can't now
we just snap out of it right away, but at
some point we have to. We have to recognize. Okay,
(22:57):
So what's your what's your go to when you're having
a pity party? What's your favorite self destructive thing to
do in the midst of a pitty party? So the
safest thing for me to do, okay, meaning that I
don't get on a text and write something I shouldn't.
I have a girlfriend that we we have a rule
(23:18):
that we don't hit send until we share it with
each other, and then the other person gets to decide
if you can hit send or not. And I'm the
bad idea there. I'm like, oh yeah, yes, and that
So what's your safe go to during a pitty party?
I need to get my guitar. So my guitar is
kind of like my It's not like a thing of
(23:41):
Ben and Jerry's. It's not like mine is a bowl
of buttered white Rice's. I know it's horrible for me rice.
That sounds great, it is, it's but it's so bad
for you. It's it's worse than anything. And that's my
pity party go to. I like that. I'm not like
a food. I don't normally go to food. Um I
(24:06):
do go to my guitar. And trust me, the songs
that come out of those things are not always good.
They're not away I want to run you over and
leave you for the crows. Well, you know what, because
(24:26):
no one's ever heard those songs that I write in
those moments. That's why I can laugh about it. It's
like knowing that you wrote texts that you didn't send
can make you laugh. So, yes, I write that stuff
and I just thank it. But you know, sometimes I
also turn them around. I'll go back to like two
ideas and say, Okay, I'm over that now, I don't
(24:49):
feel that way anymore. I've just evolved or whatever. And
then but it might be a really great long seen
come in different perspective, and I turned it around. I've
done that many times with my songs. Well, if we
ever have a girl's night out, and we are a
girl's night in and we just get to set and
(25:11):
be real, you've got to promise me you will sing
me the most pathetic pity party song, and I'll make
you buttered white rice. Yeah, I buttered white rice with seasoning. Yeah,
it's yeah, it's bad, Shania Twain. I cannot wait to
getty up with you. Thank you for spending time with us.
(25:33):
I love you. Thank you so much. I love you.
I love hearing you. Um. I don't often get to
see you, but I hear your voice and you're wonderful
messages and I appreciate you. Thank you, thank you, bye bye.
Today we talked about Shannias new album, Queen of Me.
It's out everywhere and are super fun single. That's going
(25:55):
to be my theme song for the year, giddy Up,
as well as a bunch of other good stuff. But
did you know? Shania recently earned the Music Icon Award
at the two People's Choice Awards. She was also announced
as a headliner for Rock the Ocean's Tortuga Festival, alongside

take place April fourteen through the sixteenth in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

change in children's lives and times of crisis and economic hardship,

spreading her love. Her music, of course, is another, and
I'm so grateful to her for both. How might you
(27:41):
share your love with others while tending to your own heart?
Ever thought of volunteering with kids or elders, or volunteering
at an animal care center? Are there community groups that
could use your unique set of skills, knowledge, or experience.
Ever thought about giving your mail carrier a Valentine with
a gift card for coffee or another small token of
(28:05):
your gratitude. There are so many ways to show kindness,
to promote kindness and love to the world, and trust
me when I say it will all come back to
you one hundredfold. Happy Valentine's Day, my friends, the perfect
day to put a little effort into reaching out to
love someone. I'm sending you love today and every day.
