But I'm next. We're throwing it back to nineteen ninety nine.
Throwing it back. I mean that feels like yesterday, twenty
five years ago.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Oh my god, was three years ago?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Well, you're all with Mario and Courtney Lopez.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Mario Courtney Lopez. Let's take a look at what's on
TV today.

Ride or Die? Baby Wide or Die? Do you watch
Itezy Okay? Hulu Premiere's Mastermind to Think a Killer. I'll
be watching this as well. Doctor Ann Burgess investigates and
studies the psyches of victims and their attackers.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Well, the victims, I don't feel need to be studied.
They're victims. They attackers, I think, are the ones that
need to study. They're just kind of chilling there being innocent, right.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Well, maybe they're studying victims of people that the attackers knew,
like if it wasn't just a random attack.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Okay, I don't know about to hear Mario makes a cameo.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
He probably does. And by the way, the episode three,
Episode three, Mario was out of town last time. I'm digressing.
But Mario was out of town last weekend, and Dominic
always likes to sleep with me, and I'm like, listen,
this is my TV time, So what I watch? And
of course it's all about killing in dateline and he's like,
why do you like to watch this stuff?
Speaker 4 (01:42):
You made me watch five nights at Freddy's. That's right.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Peacock debuts The Hungry Games, a nature talk about bears
in Alaska who have one hundred and fifty days to
eat three million calories before winter hibernation.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Ooh, I love bears.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
The ones in the Alaska are huge they got those
big Kodiak bearers, that'd be a good one.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Mariol Courtney Lopez. Here don't know if.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
You've heard the new acoustic version of Fortnite. Yeah, Taylor
and post Malone dropped a very chill version of the hit,
perfect for your sleepy time playlist.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Isn't the main version.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Sleepy Time too or Sleepy Time Sleepy Er?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Well, if you want something a little more upbeat, there's
also a new remix. You just open your iHeartRadio app
and search Fortnite y'all.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Maril Courtney Lopez. Time to learn a new life hack.
What is the topic today on Courtney's Corner?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Scrambled pancakes. So this is another viral recipe on TikTok okay.
The internet is divided over whether it's genius or an abomination.
So instead of making traditional circle pancakes, you pour your
batter in a pan and stirred up like you're making
scrambled eggs. You'll end up with little pancake bites and
(02:55):
if you like having a little crunch with each bite,
this method is for you, or you can cook them
if you're the doier type of person, like someone I
know me pancakes I don't mind if they're a little gooey.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
No, I you know, I like everything crispy. But this
sounds pretty good.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Why not to try this more?
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Mario Lopez coming up, Mario.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Lopez, You're gonna play a few more songs and then
today's guest.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Should be zooming in.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
It's three of the ladies from Melroe's Place, Courtney Thorn Smith,
Laura Layton and Daphne's Zuniga. They've launched a podcast where
they're rewatching the series from the beginning. It's called Still
the Place. We're gonna find out all about it next.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Broa.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Mario Lopez joining me now on zoom for the new
podcast Still the Place. Laura Layton, Courtney Thorne Smith and
Daphney's Welcome to the show.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Ladies, how are you might be good?
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Doing well?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Thank you for taking the time. You look amazing. Congrats
on the new podcast. What inspired you to start rewatching
Meloe's Place?
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Well, Arnie's been trying to get us to do dinner
for thirty years.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
A friend of mine called me out of the blue
and said, I had a dream that you did a
rewatch podcast, and I thought that's interesting, and I texted
Laura and Daphne, and within days we had a meeting.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
At iHeart so meant to be meant to be.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
We look forward to any excuse to hang out and
be together, and certainly in the podcast we get to
hang out every week, but we also get to go
down the memory lane together and go revisit all the episodes,
and it's just sort of a dream, like what better job?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, is there?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
No, it's fun y well, welcome to the iHeart family
and the show. It really was such an iconic show
and the capsule of that time. I even use the
reference still because when I got my first place in
la in Burbank, that was a place called park Place,
and I used to refer to it all the time.
It was like Melrose Place because everybody was young, all
(04:47):
these good look people.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
They were from different shows and all this stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
So when you start referring it and just using it
as part of your vernacular, and this is what thirty
some odd years here I still use, I was like, yeah,
like you lived in the Parma comp It was like
Melro's Place all this time, So then you know you're
onto something special right there too. Hold on, ladies, I
got a lot to ask you, but right now we
got to play some more music. Al Mario Lopezz my
guest today, our Courtney thorn Smith, Laura Leyton and Daphne
(05:10):
Zuniga from Melrose Place and the new podcast Still the
Place and looking back? Does do you feel the show
still holds up?
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Is? Is?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Are you happy with your performances?
Speaker 7 (05:22):
Well, let's notice, yeah, those are two very completely different questions,
Like I hate I used to hate watching myself, and
you know, we watch one at a time so we
don't get confused.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
So we've just watched it so far.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
But I think for us, or I'll speak for myself,
it's it holds up because it's the nineties. And I
mean you know this too with your old show. It's
like there's something that makes it nostalgic and fun to
revisit and then also like, oh my god, can you
believe we did that back then? So there's like an
extra layer of entertainment. You know, it wasn't like Sirius
(05:57):
Show or anything.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
There's so many elements of it that it's a sign
of the times, Like beyond just the physical stuff, but
what we're wearing, your what you know, the style here,
there's so many things that are a sign of the times,
and it's really fun to go down that path. And
we were we were there, we were you know, youthful,
We were in our twenties at the time, and so
it's definitely looking back at looking through a different lens.
(06:20):
But it's been really fun to revisit the nineties that way,
and we sort of feel like it's a it's a
gift that you know, not everybody has their twenties on
film to go back and even though we're playing characters,
it's still like going back in.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
Time in a really unique way.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
That's sort of specialist to be able to do that
and have this shared experience that we get to revisit again.
But I don't think any of us ever will go, oh,
I really liked my performance, you know, like I think
it's really hard to watch yourself no matter what. But
it's it's really fun to do it after a lot
of years, a lot of years and just go, oh,
look at that child and that you know, well, we
(06:57):
all were children, and just sort of pee get to
appreciate it and not be so critical and just really
sort of have fun with it.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Absolutely, you get to smile and enjoy you have a
whole new perspective and take on it well. Still the
Place available now on iHeartRadio. We're going to take a
quick break coming back with Courtney, Laura and Daphne.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
More fun on the way on with Mario Lopez.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Mario Lopez.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Here I got out with the hosts of the podcast
Still the Place, actresses Courtney Thorne Smith, Laura Leyton, and
Daphne Zuniga.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Now Melo's plays debuted.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Thirty two years ago, coincidentally this week, What do you
each remember about your initial audition?
Speaker 8 (07:37):
Okay, I'm gonna so I started on the show and
both of these gorgeous ladies came in a little bit later,
I had auditioning for something else and it was one of
those things of your audition every day and didn't get.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
It didn't get and I didn't get and I was
so disappointed. And Aaron Spelling took me aside and said, Dahl,
I'm going to work with you, and I just thought whatever.
The next day I woke up, it was a stack
of scripts and Melro's place was one wow, perfectly like.
I went in they like, and then it was it
was done. I was cast and it was done.
Speaker 8 (08:06):
So I had to give it that bumpy thing to
find a good thing.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
It was such a great old Hollywood that's an old
school Hollywood story. Yes, I love it.
Speaker 9 (08:12):
Hit a stack of scripts.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Wow, that's funny. All right, hold on, ladies, got to
play more music.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
What aut Mario Lopez here, and I've got three of
the stars of Melrose Place on zoom with me, Courtney
Thorne Smith, Laura Leyton, and Daphne Zuniga. And is it
true CBS is planning a revival and if so, would
you all perhaps be a returning.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
We're definitely, Uh, there's a revival in the works.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
Okay, have anything firm yet. We hope that it comes
to be.
Speaker 6 (08:43):
But yeah, we know that the entire cast would be
interested participating, and yeah, it be super fun. So we
really hope that.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
That comes to be. But nice, very cool, looking forward
to that.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
All right, Well, hold on, ladies, We're gonna play more music.
All Mario Lopez, my guess hosts of the podcast Still
the Place actresses Courtney Thorne Smith, Laura Leyton, and Daphne Zuniga.
And Courtney, you have a teenage son, right, has he
watched the show yet?
Speaker 9 (09:10):
He has not watched the show, and he has no
interest in watching the show, although he does say I know,
I know, you were big in the nineties.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
The nineties and like it's the back of the thirties.
They like, and Laura, I can't believe it. Are you
really a grand grandmother? I have wow.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
See what happens when you have kids?
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I know, so wow, that's unbelievable. And I gotta imagine
that's the best feel because my grand my parents, seeing
the way they are with my kids, they're like different people.
I was like, who's this guy and who's this They
were not that they didn't raise me the way they
have seen them with my kids.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
It's just like a.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Whole other I don't know what happens, but they turn
this whole other kind of love comes up.
Speaker 6 (09:53):
It's super fun and well, technically I'm a nana. It's
just very clear, like my name is Nana are and
she's the best baby ever and it is objectively object
and I had some good babies in my own, but this.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Is Oh, that's awesome. Well, congrats, We're gonna have to
take a break. We're gonna come back and wrap it
up with the ladies of Melrose Place in just a moment.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
You're the full interview now on with Mario dot Com.
More Mario Lopez on the Way.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Mario Lopez here, or wrapping things up with today's guest
Courtney Thorne Smith, Laura Leyton and Daphne Zuniga. And Daphne,
you start alongside Lucille Ball in one of her only
dramatic roles, Stone Pillow, actually remember that what do you uh?
Speaker 4 (10:35):
What sticks out in your mind about working with her?
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Well, I used to write fan letters to her when
I was a little girl, and would get form sort
of like little postcards back, you know, little.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
No, Yeah, yeah, I remember those.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
She was just such a pro. I remember we shot
in New York City. She played a homeless woman and
I was a social worker who got her off the street.
And I remember, I remember so much.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
One of them was.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
We were doing a scene while we're walking down the street.
I remember we were on the Upper East Side, and
she kept saying, I can't hear you, honey, I can't
hear you.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Gotta speak.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
And then she would say, if I can't hear you,
how is anyone else going to hear you? And I thought,
oh my god, she hates me. She's gonna fire me.
And then after that she just was like, we were
sitting in our you know, on the set, around in
our chairs, and she says, oh, honey, you're just perfect
for this. That's going to go on my home reel.
Speaker 9 (11:26):
You know.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Whenever I would flow up because I was so nervous.
She was a real pro. She fainted in port authority
because she was layered with all these clothes, and so
I went down on the ground and she wasn't answering,
wasn't responding. I called her in her character name, and
finally I just said, Lucy's not answering, and then they
cut and the director said, Okay, that's it. We're ending
(11:50):
for the day. You know, she's tired. She was seventy
six at the time. She comes to the ambulance is
there and she's like, what.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Are you doing, George?
Speaker 5 (11:59):
Why did you take the light? We got to get
our day. Wow, you were finishing your day. We can't
rent this again, it's too expensive. And she finished the scene.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Legend of Lucy is my I'll tell you favorite. That's
awesome and this is really awesome.
Speaker 2 (12:15):

Fifty three forty nine from the Real Housewives of Beverly
Hills Lisa Rena.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
I think she's sixty.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
I say she's sixty two, sixty one? Oh oh, we
flanked her.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
More Mario Lopez coming up.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Mario Courtney Lopez.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Here, let's take a look at what's trending on the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Lauren Carlini from the US women's volleyball team breaks down
what's in store for the Americans heading to the Olympics.
You can find that by searching serving.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Pancakes funny volleyball term.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Megan Good tells Shannon Sharp about the brawl on the
set of her Nickelodeon show Search Club. Saye to hear that?
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Remember we hung out with Shannon Sharp. We seeing the
Maxwell concert. Wait a minute, they're having brawls on Nickelodeon shows.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Now a little young for that.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
You're not safe anywhere. And the ladies of Melrose Place
talk about the day they auditioned for the show back
in the nineties, and you can find that by searching
on with Mario what.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
O Mario Courtney Lopez.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Here, let's put a spotlight on my wife because she's
got a new joke.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Let's see what's up, honey.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
So this is a little known fact. Before the crowbar
was invented, crows had to drink at home.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Hey, good delivery, wah wah.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
I like the jokes.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
They're getting better and you're timing and delivery. You're getting fantastic.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
What do you mean they're getting better?
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Take it easy, Jomoro Courtney Lopez. Let's get to your comments.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
What'd you find?
Speaker 3 (15:19):
And I mentioned, Sonny, this is from at Hector Barrera HB.
And he said, where was Mario Lopez at when Danny
Trejo was out there throwing hands? If you touch an
og then we're gathering a posse.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
So Danny Trejo, gosh actor who's been in literally like
four hundred movies. I think it's more than that, probably
more than that. My guy is eighty years old and
still looks good. But he's a eighty Who throws a
water balloon at an eighty year old guy in a
parade who's sitting in a car in a parade. Sure, exactly, Well,
the og came out of.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
What I really wanted to say, but the.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Og came out of him.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
He stepped out of his car and approached these guys
and started to kind of throw hands, and he was
there with just like one or two buddies, and these
guys were in a posse like why why would you?
I was so disappointed just for that that for him
unfortunately wasn't hurt or anything, but like these young punks
and that's what they are.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Who does that?
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Why did this person who threw the water bottle forget
that water? The water balloon that Danny treyj was in
prison originally for being.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Right in a game he was waiting, was a boxing
champ in prison on granted he's eighty. If it was
a forty year old Danny trey Ho or there, I
think it probably would have ended differently, very very differently.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
More Mario Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Mario Courtney Lopez. Here, we treat every day like a holiday.
What are we celebrating today?
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Annie?
Speaker 3 (16:37):
It is national mohito day.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Oh you like a mohito?
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I just had one.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
It's a nice little summer drink.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
You don't want to have too many because you'll get
a nice little hangover because they're sweet. But occasional one
by the pool or the beach, great boat drink. Viva mohito,
Mario Courtney Lopez, there was a quick buzz for you.
Emma Watson has a new man in her alive the
Harry Potter stars than Packing on the PDA with a
guy named Karen Brown. They met at Oxford, where Emma
(17:05):
is working towards her master's degree in literature.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Oh look at that. She's actually very bright.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Good for her here, and her boyfriend is getting his
PhD in nineteenth century literature and economics. So wow, the
two of them together, ooh smart.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
All right? So I thought about this after seeing the
new trailer for gladiat Or two. Give me a line.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
Glad eat or two.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
I can't quote you Glad the original for the original.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
I'm vexed. I'm so vexed for.
Speaker 10 (17:42):
Everybody said that's that's what that's what keen? Well, because
I already used are you not entertained earlier? Yes, I
Marcellus Maximus, Third Child of the Force bore the whole script.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
I love that movie when I was there.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
I'm sorry for asking that. Okay, so this is for you, Mario.
You've mastered sports. We know boxing and jiu jitsu. Would
you ever consider taking up fencing or sword fighting as well.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I haven't mastered anything, but I do participate and fencing
or sword fighting. I haven't thought about it. I guess
it could be fun. It's not something I've been necessarily
looking forward to, but if there was a role coming up,
then yeah, I'd get into it. Fencing is actually an
Olympic sport. We'll be able to check it out. This
song do this, yes, exactly what they do?
Speaker 4 (18:27):
She is jutting her arms. Yes for those listening.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Yes, Mario Lopez will be right back.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Y'a almar and Courtney Lopez. Time now for one last thing.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Long before Taylor Swift was into the NFL. She had
a connection to professional wrestling, believe it or not, before
she released her first album, Taylor would babysit for wrestler
double j Jeff Jarrett.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
That's while Jeff had three daughters.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
And needed someone to watch them while his wife was
receiving treatment for breast cancer. Jess says Taylor would teach
them things like how to bake cookies, and their ship
remained after she became famous. One of Jeff's daughter's, Jacqueline,
appeared in the music video for her song Mine.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Oh, I'd love to hear that kind of story. That's cool.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Look at that. My babysitter was Taylor Swift.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
That's a cool story. Yes, can't beat that.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
More with Mario Lopez after this all right, we're out here,
but we're back tomorrow with the first look at everything
new hit in theaters and.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Streaming, plus comic Dane Cook. Until then, this is Mario
and Courtney Lopez saying good night.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Draw Loud with Mario Lopez
