and I are going to compete in another fun pop

Speaker 2 (00:22):
You're on with Mario Courtney Lopez. W al Mario Lopez
joining me now on Zoom from the new series Murder
in a Small Town.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Actress Kristin Crook.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Welcome to the show.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
How are you?
Speaker 5 (00:34):
Thank you? I am well, I am in LA for
the first time and I believe a decade.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
So that's a trip, is that right? So wait a minute?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Where where's homes? Where's home these days?
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Home these days is Vancouver.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
I was in Toronto for like ten years, and I
just moved back a couple of years ago, right after
the pandemic, and it's lovely being back on the West coast.
But yeah, I just I've never really lived in LA
but I've you know, obviously, I've come here a lot
at night. It's been a long time since I've had
reason to come down here.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Wow, so you fell in love with the city. It's
a great city. I've spent a lot of time there too.
In Vancouver. Yes, yeah, when you were you were shooting
the show there. I'm assuming we.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
Shot Murder in a small town in like right outside
of Vancouver. There's there's an area called the Sunshine Coast.
I don't know if you've heard of it, but it's
this gorgeous spot that's like on the highway up to Whistler.
There's you take a little ferry and you go onto
this like peninsula and it's gorgeous beaches and mountains and
all of these like beautiful trees and eagles and whales,
(01:31):
and you know, it's kind of like a majestic, gorgeous landscape.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, majestic's a good word to describe it. Well, Murder
in a small town Dave Use, September twenty fourth on Fox.
Got to take a quick break.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
We're gonna have more Kristin Crook more, Mario Lopez coming.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Up, Mario Lopez here. My guest is actress Kristin Krook,
And congrats on the show. What is a murder in
a small town about Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Murder in small Town's a detective show. It's a murder mystery,
and every episode ish there's a new kind of murder
in this town. And it's not like a dark and
twisty show. It's more of a like challenging and interesting
murder mystery.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
But it feels.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Like a home that you're coming to, like a community
that you want to be a part of. And at
the heart of the show is a love story between
Carl Alberg and the character I play, Cassandra Lee, who's
a librarian in the community.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Oh you're a librarian, so you're not one of the detectives.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
No, no detectives for me.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
No, I don't have to do any of the exposition.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
It's amazing.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
So there's a murder a week. That's a lot for
a small town.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
It is a town.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Yes, it's a violent town, but it's not it's funny,
you know, like when you watch a lot of shows
that are that are murder mystery shows, there is like
a conceit that these things happen and it's not like
a big deal. It's not like, what is happening in
this town it's sort of in my mind it lives
as a fantasy element, something that is there, but isn't
you know, like what is this Onslaught of Murder? Not
(03:00):
really what it is.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
No, I'm a big fan of murder mysteries and there's
a crime doc on every night at Costa Lopez. So yes,
oh yeah, somebody's got to be getting whacked to go.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
To bed over here, weld on, Christine got to put
some more music, now.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
What al Mario Lopez here, we've been talking about the
new Fox show Murder and a Small Town with actors
Christin Crook. And this is based on a series of novels, right, Yes,
were these books on your radar at all before?
Speaker 1 (03:25):
No?
Speaker 4 (03:25):
No, listen.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
These books came out in the eighties and they they
took place in this community on the Sunshine Coast, written
by a woman named L. R. Wright, and they were
optioned I believe, almost like thirty years ago originally, and
indeed Donald Sutherland was attached to play was attached to
be a part of the original movie that they they had. Yeah,
(03:49):
a fellow Canadian. Yes, and so this is the TV
show that took this long to end up in this incarnation.
So they're rereleasing the books. I did part of an
audio book, so there's a whole bunch of stuff for
people to read.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
You're all Maria Lopez.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
I got actress Christin Crook on zoom with me and
coming up in October, you're attending a convention dedicated exclusively
to Smallville. I got to Those are fun. I'm sure
you're gonna have like a good time.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Did you shoot that in Vancouver as well? Was that
in Canada?
Speaker 1 (04:20):
We did?
Speaker 4 (04:20):
We shot in Vancouver.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
I got to live at my parents and my dad
used to drive me to work.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Oh wow, so you're you're you're born and raiser.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Born and raised in Vancouver, left to Toronto, came back
to Vancouver.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yeah wow, that's wild right there, that you've managed to
stay in your hometown during that.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
I know, I'm so lucky. It doesn't happen very often,
but I'm so so lucky. Yes, we have October. We
have a full convention. First time we're doing just a
small Ville convention. It's in New Jersey. It'll be it'll
be Mayhem. I'm Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor. Is
a trip. So they're always a good time for people.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, yeah, No, I'm sure it's gonna be a good time.
Do you still keep in touch pretty often with the
other castmates or is it sort of like when you
went to school with people you see them when you
can see him and catch up.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
No.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
I mean because of these this convention circuit that a
lot of us are a part of, we see each
other fairly often. But I've become quite close with Erica Durance,
who played Lewis Lane on the show. We both live
in the same city, so we didn't really get to
work together on the series, but we get to see
each other now, and she's become a real like bosom friend,
(05:27):
you know. I love her to pieces. And it's because
of that time that we spent on the show, but
also this time that we spend in the convention circuit
that we that we've been able to become so close.
But yes, I know them better now that I knew
them back in two thousand and five or whatever it was.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Oh wow, the time goes quick right there, doesn't it mean?
It surely does. Well, that's great. Everything seems to be
going great professionally. I got one more thing I want
to ask, but let's take a break. I'm going to
wrap it up Kristin Krook in just a moment when
you're the full.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Interview now at On with Mario dot Com More Mario
Lopez on the way.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Maria Lopez, you're rapping things up with actress Kristin Crook.
And what about social life? You haven't fun anyone special?
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Yeah, social life's fine.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
You know, I'm not super social.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
I am a reader and spend a lot of my
time reading books. I also, I mean, I don't know
if discounts as a social life, but I got my
bachelor's degree recently, so oh, good for you something. But yeah,
so I went back to school and I did that.
I did it virtually and it was incredible. But yes,
my social life involves a lot of being in my
(06:32):
head and going hiking.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
I respect that, and that's admirable that you went back
to get your very cool, very impressive. Well listen, congrats
again on the show, and be sure to check out
Murder and a Small Town. It is premiering September twenty
fourth on Fox. Kristin, thanks for hanging out.
Speaker 5 (06:49):

Jon Mario, Courtney Lopez.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
We've got some celest twenty year older as always. Fraser's
gonna tell us and we're gonna try to guess.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
The ages from The Hunger Games and Five Nights at Freddy's.
Your son's one of your son's favorite movies, Josh Hutcherson.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Gotta take him to that sequel when that happened you.
I have to. I gotta find out. Josh has gotta
be thirty four thirty three thirty two from Growing Pains.
Kirk Cameron, my sister's only poster that she had really
we were kids, Yes, how funny? Yes, Mike Siver, Mike Siver, Yeah,
(07:44):
Kirk's Cameron's gotta be fifty.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Five fifty four fifty four, It's correct. Wow, just a
Cokay and Wolverine himself.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Hugh Jackman, You Jackman fifty two four.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Fifty six four.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Mario Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Cebroe Mario Courtney Lopez, and I posted this the other day.
I found it fascinating. A new study ranked Los Angeles
as one of the worst cities in the US for dating,
to which I said, La natives already knew this. Now
you may be saying, that's that's really weird because there's
ten million people that live in LA proper. How can
(08:26):
you how can you not meet someone with ten million
that's more than most states, to be honest with you,
But to which I say, and you know this, if
you live in La everyone lives in their car. Everyone
lives in their own little bubble, and their own bubble,
and the bubble bounce into each other. So you live
in your car, you live in your bubble. You don't
leave your neighborhood, and you don't leave your car. So
(08:48):
unless you're chilling in the same area, literally in the
same neighborhood, you're really not going to meet anybody outside it.
And it is weird because there are so many in there.
Is because there are so many people here, as opposed
to like New York, where you're constantly walking your but
it's shoulder to shorter, it's compact, but you're shoulder. You're
coming across people. You're encountering and engaging with people all day,
(09:11):
so it makes it easier to meet people.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
La.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Strangely enough, you can feel very lonely.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
No, that's true.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
Well I'm glad I'm not single.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Well mean neither. But you know what, Angelinos, you have
the weather here which is on your side. You can
go outside and be outside with hopefully other people and
good luck to you. Said true.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
You can be eleven months out of the year.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
More Mario Lopez.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
On the Way, Mario Courtney Lopez.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
You're now streaming on Hulu twenty twenty four iHeartRadio Music Festival.
It's one hour of the weekend's biggest performances from the
hottest artists.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
In music the Weekend Shahboozy, Gwen Stefani, The New Kids,
and so many more.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
It's streaming now on Hulu.
Speaker 7 (09:47):
Just go check it out, Mario Courtney Lopez. Here was
some quick buzz for you.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Kate Winsled has landed the lead in another TV series,
Oh We Love When she Does These. This one's called
The Spot from Hulu. She plays a surgeon whose husband
suspects that she may be responsible for a child's hit
and run death. Ooh, good concept.
Speaker 6 (10:17):
That is a good concept, not a good thing. But
her most recent series where HBO's The Regime and Mayor
of Easttown, which earned her an Emmy.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
We love that one.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yes, did we see the Regime? We may have to
go back and watch that.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
I've seen the promo Ford or the trailer forda good
looks really? Oh no, we have to see that she
plays like a dictator or something.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
What.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Oh, that's right, hence the regime. All right, let's get
back to the music right now.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Yah, Mario Courtney Lopez.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Important to have good friends in your life, of course,
in fact, your health could actually depend on it. New
research has physical meeting with our friends on a regular
basis has the same effects as eating a Mediterranean diet.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Who compared that?
Speaker 2 (10:57):
That is an interesting analogy. People who meet with friends
at least once a week have better physical and mental health,
and people who meet their friends less than a few
times a year have a thirty percent higher mortality risk.
That's why when we shut down for COVID depression suicide,
everything skyrocketed. So there's actually some truth to this study.
Why a Mediterranean diet that's a very healthy diet. It's
(11:19):
considered one of the healthier diets just because there's a
lot of fish and not got it, got it, got
it involved. But hey, it's contact is important. That's the
point here.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yeah, Mooremorial Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Why Courtney Lopez here was some quick buzz. Britney spears,
dipping her toes into movies again. She says she's working
with Wicked director John Chew on a musical where she'll
play an extremely intelligent character.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
She's the only source of this information.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
This is okay.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Britney's last acting credit was a voice roll in the
twenty nineteen movie Corporate Animals. I was not familiar with that.
I get the sense that Britney is just committed to
doing her dance videos in her living room.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
I mean, and duh.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I didn't think she wanted to, like, really work work anymore.
But okay, maybe she's had a change of heart.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Mario Lopez here with my wife.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Courtney Adele has ten shows left in her Vegas residency.
But then she says she's taking a long sabbatical. She
says she's spent the last seven years building a new
life for herself and now she wants to live it. Okay,
good for her.
Speaker 6 (12:20):
That makes sense. In that time, she's gotten engaged to
sports agent Rich Paul and has talked about wanting to
expand her family.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
So you know she calls Stallone's house.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
It's right, good for you, Adele, get in there, yore,
Mario Courtney Lopez, let's put a spotlight on my wife.
What is Courtney's random question today?
Speaker 6 (12:39):
What is something that feels illegal but isn't You know.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
It feels illegal, but isn't for me and I do
it every day right now. When I recently got an
electric car, you're allowed to drive in the diamond lane,
the carpool ant without having anyone in your car. Oh,
it feels illegal, but if you drive an electric car,
you're good to go. Which come which is in LA
is a big deal if you're driving that line. True,
But you did that prior to year electric. That's true,
(13:05):
that was illegal. You talking about what was That's why
this feels illegal always I used to do it.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
That's exactly good point.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
More fun on the way on with Mario Lopez.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Mario Lopez, here were their first look at the Lion
King movie Mufassa. It has the same photorealistic animation as
the twenty nineteen remake. It tells a story about a
young Mufassa and Scar as they became close as brothers.
It is ironic because a lot of envy going on there.
Movie hit theaters right before Christmas, but you can see
the trailer right now on Maria dot com. Lario Courtney
(13:38):
Lopez here and Jason and Travis Kelsey are taking their
podcasts all the way to the bank. They just signed
a hundred million dollars deal for four years to bring
their show New Heights to Amazon. The show one Podcast
of the Year at this year's iHeart Podcast Awards. Dang,
if you're just Taylor Swift adjacent, you're winning in life
right now.
Speaker 6 (13:57):
I think she just has the magic touch.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Evidently, don't forget. You can listen to this show as
a podcast and we're funnier. Just search on with Mario
Mario Courtney Lopez.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Here was some quick buzz for you.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Pixar gifting us with another Toy Story movie, Toy Story
five currently in the works. I love this franchise. This
time wood he buzz in the gang or taking on
their toughest opponent yet, electronics.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Oh my gosh, the end of toys even though Toy
Story three had the perfect sendoff, Part four made more
than a billion dollars at the box office. Part five
is scheduled to come out in June of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I can't wait. Joh Mario, Courtney Lopez, and Kid Harrington
agrees with Game of Thrones fans on.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
With Mario Hollywood Buzz.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
So, when Game of Thrones ended back in twenty nineteen,
fans didn't really love the final season. Me being a
big Game of Thrones fan, I felt like it was rushed.
They just didn't. It just wasn't satisfying because the series
itself was so epic.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Now I get it dragged out or.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
It just it just it was like rushed.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
Were like dragon, if you will.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Trying to make it.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Both of you guys are whacked now.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Thet was actually pretty good.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
What actually happened?
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Kid Harrington, the King of the nor It, says the
cast was so tired after eight seasons they couldn't have
gone on any longer. He agrees that the last season
was rushed. In short, thank you, and it isn't even
like watching his own performance. There was talk of making
a spin off about his character John Snow, but nothing
got him very excited.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Well, you know it had it.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Ended on a high note. Dare I say it could
have been one of the best shows ever. It disappointing
note because the season's leader were so good and it
was just like, oh gosh, why I.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Didn't watch it?
Speaker 6 (15:48):
That's why I didn't watch one, because I knew that
the season finale would be terrible.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
It wasn't just finale, was this the whole season? Now
the prequel House of Dragon, They're only going one more season,
which I think a total of three seasons. Perfect because
I think it'll end just in time to where it'll
leave you want more and it won't be too much
and you're.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Happy right now. We're very happy with how.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
It is, very happy.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
More Mario Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
That's gonna do it. But don't worry, we got the
music still coming your way quick. Thanks again to Kristin
Crook for zooming in on Maurio dot com for more
of my chat with her. More Fun Tomorrow Z's gonna
be here till then music rolls
Speaker 1 (16:26):
On with Mario Lopez
