Speaker 1 (00:00):
I had one with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Here we go, Mario Lopez here, or as SNL calls me,
the Leonardo DiCaprio of Hotel TDS.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
I'll take it.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Only five days left until Christmas. Lots going on today.
We got Pat Monahan from Trains zooming in a little
later to talk Christmas traditions. We're also going to dish
out some common sense justice in Courtney's Court and get
to your comments.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
But up next our Good Need of the Week. You're
on with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
You're on Mario Lopez. Every week we celebrated someone who's
done a good deed. Today we're going to put a
spotlight on Nicholas Pouch. He's a descendant of the Ermaize
fashion empire, one.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Of the richest families in the world.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
He is single, he has no children, and my guy
is worth billions literally, and he decided to leave his
fortune to his gardener in Handyman.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Knew I should have been a gardener.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
He's worked on the property for decades and he has
two children of his own. You know, Nicholas probably doesn't
have a lot of people that he can trust or
that are genuine with him, and throughout the years, this
gardner and handyman, I'm sure has just sort of been
their form in a very authentic way, and he recognizes

(01:14):
that this is something straight out of a movie. I
think it's awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
This is like your friend who gave billions or like
a millions to their dog.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Correct, well, the housekeeper who's gonna take care of the dog,
right right? But because again, not too many people that
he's close, dude, and trust too many people. But there's
something to be said for loyalty and family isn't always
blood related.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
So congratulations to this gardener. Awesome that the countdown.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
At Christmas continues. In moments, this is on with Mario.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Lopez more music in a moment, You're all with Mario
and Courtney Lopez.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
But first, let's take a look at what's on TV.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
Today CBS as the season forty five finale of Survivor.
There are three attorneys among the five finalists.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
That's interesting. I'm assuming that's got to be a first.
I wonder what kind of law they practice. I go
for the insurance guy. He's gonna win.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
Isn'ty Plus premieres BTS Monuments Beyond the Star. It's an
eight episode doc that followed the group's journey over the
last ten years.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Wow, the saga continues.

Speaker 5 (02:12):
And they've also got Percy Jackson and the Olympians. A
twelve year old Percy is accused by Zeus of stealing
his thunderbolt.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Oh okay, we're going a little backwards. Speaking of Percy,
got to interview Percy Miller master P and his son.
His son's names are Mercy and Hersy. So you've got Percy,
Mercy and Hersey. Just a fun fact.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
I didn't need to know that.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
What are Mario Lopez here about twenty four hours away
from reliving all the excitement of this year's jingle Ball Tour,
one of the best lineups yet to share Olbia Rodrigo, Sizza.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Nile Horn, so many more.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
We've heard the hits plus new twists on Christmas classics
and when it comes to share whole new take on
the holiday. You can watch a concert tomorrow night, eight
pm on ABC. Jaryl Marri Cordy Lopez time to dish
out some common sense. Just as all rise Courtney's card,
It's down session. This comes from at gem Hunter. They say,
of course, my mother in law brings up why there's

(03:09):
no Christmas card this year. Frankly, I find that a
waste of money. When we talk and text daily.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Who's the scrooge here?

Speaker 5 (03:17):
So the mother in law's upset that she's not doing
Christmas cards.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Correct, and he is justifying it.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Well, we talk every day and I share paces with
us every day, So why do I need to do that?

Speaker 5 (03:28):
You know, I understand both sides of it. It is
very time consuming. They do cost a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I had a stack last night you were getting ready
to mail, and I was doing the math with the
stamps these days.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, that's not cheap. It's not cheap.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
And you know, if you look, if you're only sending
to twenty five people or whatever, just send them a text.
I don't know. I'm okay if you don't send me
a Christmas card.

Speaker 6 (03:52):
Send a like a gift or something.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
I like getting the cards because they're nice to keep
for the future if they're coming family.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Or friends, depending on who the person is. Well, I
get Grandma. I don't keep all the cars, no, but
I get Grandma's point of view. Grandma's gonna want a memory.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
I get it. But it's okay.

Speaker 7 (04:11):
Happy holidays to you and yours. This is on with
Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Won'll be right back, yo, Courtney Lopez here, let's put
a spotlight on my wifetime for Courtney's random thought.

Speaker 6 (04:22):
What you got, honey?

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Do you ever get skeptical of another car, like when
you're driving around at two am? Like, I know why
I'm out here, but what are you doing? Why are
you driving around?

Speaker 2 (04:32):
First of all, if you're in La, it's never just
one car you'd be at two am and it's straight.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Out traffic on the freeway, stock at it. Yeah, exactly.
So I am always like, what are all these people doing?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Or in the middle of the afternoon, like it's one pm. Seriously,
you're not all at lunch. Don't you all work?

Speaker 3 (04:52):
It's crazy.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
I actually always wonder how many people are around me
are having affairs, But that's just me.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
I don't know why.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Why would you wonder that because it happens all the time.
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Really they going at one pm?

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Mario Lopez here. Just five days left until Christmas. But
today is also a holiday. It is National Sangria Day,
which is perfect for the holidays because it's a festive
looking drink, basically red wine with a lot of fruit
cut up into it unless you make it Casa Lopez style,

(05:28):
because I'll put a little tequila, little vodka, little mescal,
a little of everything.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
This is why I like that, because I don't like wine,
but I like sangria at your house.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yes, oh it'll, it'll, It'll make the holidays very merry.

Speaker 6 (05:40):
It's good.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
You're on, Mario Lopez. Let's get to your comments. Who's
this one?

Speaker 6 (05:46):
From?

Speaker 4 (05:47):
This came in from at Phil's Hungry. I'll raise you one, Mario.
I say bar shouldn't let anyone in under thirty and
the hours are four to ten pm.

Speaker 6 (05:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Phil is referring to an article I posted that a
New York bar raises drinking to twenty five because quote,
young people are annoying, to which I said, as a
former person who was under twenty five, I think this
is a great idea. You know, I don't know if
it'll catch on, but while you're raising the age to
twenty five, I think we should raise the age to

(06:17):
be able to drive, to be able to vote, to be.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Able to do a lot of things.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Yes, let us know what you think.

Speaker 7 (06:23):
On Twitter and on with Mario Holidays from the entire
on with Mario fam more fest and fun coming up.

Speaker 2 (06:31):

Speaker 3 (06:39):

Speaker 2 (06:41):

definitely check it out, and hey, maybe you could be
on next season. It's called Blank Slate. It's coming to
Game Show Network on January eighth.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
Check it out.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Mario Lopez. Here was some quick buzz and then we're
gonna get back to the music.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Amanda Buyings retiring from the podcasting game after just one episode.
She says she's hanging it up because she couldn't book
guests like Drake or post Malone where you can't start
with them.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
She's got lofty goals. I must say, did anyone hear
the first episode?

Speaker 1 (07:13):
No?

Speaker 4 (07:13):
But I want to now I know, I hear it's
nine hours long?

Speaker 6 (07:17):
No? Is it really?

Speaker 7 (07:17):
No?

Speaker 6 (07:17):
I don't know. Wow.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
If you want a podcast that has new content five
days a week, however, you can subscribe to this show.
Just search wrong with Mario, You're al Mario Lopez. I'm
gonna get back to the music in a moment, but
right now it's time for today's birthday shoutouts. I'm gonna
try to guess the ages.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
What do we got? Singer actress Jojo Jojo. She was
engaged to a friend of mine and then they had split,
Oh Jojo. I'm gonna say, is hitting the third level?
Thirty thirty three?

Speaker 6 (07:46):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (07:46):
Jonah Hill from the Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball, super Bad.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Great actor Joonah Hill turned out to.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Be get him to the Greek I recently watched again
because it was on and it's pretty hilarious.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
I'm going to say, is forty five forty? Is he
really forty sick at fourth level?

Speaker 5 (08:04):
Okay?

Speaker 6 (08:04):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (08:05):
And creator and producer of Law and Order, Law and Order, SUU,
every Law and Order and a bunch of other stuff.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Dick Wolf, Dick Wolf.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Because he's been in the game for so long, I
gotta imagine he's seventy one seventy seven.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Wow, that's awesome.

Speaker 7 (08:19):
Happy howadays to you and yours? This is on with
Mario Lopez.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Won't be right back.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
What a Mario Lopez? Here?

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Just a few more songs and then today's guest will
be joining us. It is Pat Monahan from Train. We're
gonna talk Christmas music, a whole bunch of stuff.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Just keep it locked. Mario Lopez here joining me now
on Zoom, the front.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Man of one of the most popular bands of the
last twenty five years. Drops Jupiter, Meet Virginia, Calling, All
Angels and Hay Soul's Sister are among their smash hits
and there's no end inside of course, talking about the
great Emmy Award winning Train and they're amazing. Lead singer,
my guy, Pat Monahan.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
How are you, man?

Speaker 6 (09:05):
Great Mario? How are you, buddy?

Speaker 3 (09:06):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Aside from starting jiu jitsu, which you're going to do
in a few weeks. Your music continues to resonate with
people quarter century after your debut album.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
How have you and Train managed to make this happen?

Speaker 6 (09:19):
You know? Man?

Speaker 8 (09:21):
I just I admire young artists, and I love new music,
and I'm always trying to stay competitive with myself, and
I think the love for music and knowing what it
actually does for human beings as it's done for me,
makes me want to just keep trying my hardest.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Hey, there's a lot to talk about today, Pap, But
we got to keep the music going right now, so
I hain't tight.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
You're a Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
My guest today is Pat Monahan from Train, and let's
talk songwriting. Your dad was a big fan of a songwriter,
Johnny Mercer, and you grew up listening to his songs
and he ended up being a big influence on you, right, Yeah.

Speaker 8 (09:57):
Johnny Mercer was the guy during that era, you know,
long ago where instead of saying the Northern lights, he
would say the Aurora borealis And that is just so
beautiful that he was able to put that in a song.
And you know, he wrote moon River, which I think
is his most popular but definitely not my favorite, but
his quirky way of writing was very influential for me.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
How old are you when you started writing?

Speaker 8 (10:23):
You know, I was in high school and I wrote
a song called full House Hand and let me tell you,
if you want timeless, crappy music, this is the jam.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Hey, you gotta start somewhere. When did you realize you
could sing?

Speaker 8 (10:39):
You know, I was actually in the seventh grade in
a carpool on the way to basketball practice and everyone
was singing a Michael Jackson song that was on the radio,
including me, and then everyone stopped and looked at me
and went like, whoa dude?

Speaker 3 (10:53):
And so so you didn't take any lessons. You just
just no.

Speaker 6 (10:56):
I didn't know I could even sing.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
You didn't know that.

Speaker 8 (10:59):
That's funny when your peers, when your peers, you know,
they certainly weren't telling me my jump shot with solids, right,
that was pretty fun.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
That's cool.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
My son recently asked to join the choir. That's cool
because he plays the piano, and I was like, okay.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Go for it.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
So man, it's cool that he likes it. All right,
hold on, we gotta take a break. We're gonna have
more with Pat Monahan coming out.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
To Countdown at Christmas. Continues in moments. This is on
with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Mario Lopez here with Pat Monahan from Train and we've
been talking about songwriting. And I know you wrote a
song with Taylor Swift, babe, and you perform with her.
Talk about that experience.

Speaker 8 (11:34):
Well, Taylor Swift is an incredibly smart, gifted young lady
and it was nothing but a good time. We had
a lot of fun together.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
She's lovely, she is she is very sweet, all right,
let's keep the musicing. Mario Lopez here hanging out on
Zoom with Pat Monahan from Train. The Holidays are here
and Train has a Christmas album, twenty fifteen's Christmas in Tahoe.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
What made y'all want to do a Christmas album?

Speaker 8 (11:58):
Well, you know, Christmas time time is you talk about
music being memorable and you finding that. You know, I
remember the first time I heard that and where I was,
and you know, as I get older, there's less and
less people in my family that were my guidance. Yeah,
and having the song meant a lot to me, and

(12:20):
I wanted to be able to sing some of those
and why not try to write a few. So it
was like that let me for a few years, we
just kept adding to the album instead of making a
new Christmas album with one album with like seven hundred
and fourteen songs on it.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Wow, Well you can listen to Christmas in Tahoe on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
It's Keith the music going now.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Mario Lopez here, I got Pat Monahan from Train with me.
We're talking about their album Christmas in Tahoe. And you
did a version of my personal favorite Christmas song, Donnie
Hathaway's This Christmas and actually I'll.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Performed the original version. Your version hit number one. What
made you want to cover that song?

Speaker 6 (13:00):
Well, Donnie Hathaway.

Speaker 8 (13:01):
If people who are listening to your show have not
heard of or heard from Donnie Hathaway, you must listen.
He maybe has one of the greatest voices of all time,
and that song is so different and beautiful. When I
grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, Donnie hathaway songs were not

(13:22):
as much on the radio. And then when you start
to move around the world and hear from different people,
you learn of different artists.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
And he's still one of my favorites.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Oh absolutely, And you can hear Train's version by searching
This Christmas on your heart radio app Happy.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Howadays to you and yours? This is on with Mario Lopez.
Won'll be right back.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Mario Lopezz talking Christmas music with trained singer Pat Monahan.
And you wrote a whole bunch of original songs for
Christmas in Tahoe, including Shake Up Christmas, which continues to
be one of the top holiday songs every year, and
that song is one of the top stream songs as well.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
What is it about that, particularly the song you think.

Speaker 8 (13:59):
You know, it's a you things have changed, right, I mean,
Christmas music didn't used to start until like what November
twenty eighth, after Thanksgiving. So my family and I are
shopping in the Holiday Spirit Store or the Halloween Spirit Store,
and they're playing shake Up Christmas.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Now it gets early, let's go pretty soon's get after
fourth of July. We're gonna start hearing.

Speaker 8 (14:24):
But anyway, I think the song just makes people happy,
and you know, we could probably use a little bit
more happiness, especially right now.

Speaker 6 (14:32):
Yeah we can.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
All right, let's face some more music.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Mario Lopez here and talking about the train album Christmas
in Tahoe with the band's singer Pat Monahan. And another
cool thing about the album is that in twenty twenty
one it became a Hallmark Channel holiday movie and the
star of the movie version was was you.

Speaker 6 (14:51):
Yeah. Yeah, it was a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
That's kind of fun. How how did that end up
transitioning into a film?

Speaker 8 (14:57):
Well, my management company in Hallmark, you know, they've been
dealing with each other for years and we've been talking
about them making the album Christmas and Tahoe into a movie,
and finally they had a script and we got together
and I got to I got to ask a dear

(15:19):
friend of mine, the better looking Lopez. I say, my
friend George Lopez, who I asked him to be in
the movie. And he said, well, I'm looking to travel
a long way and not make any money. And I
was like, I'm your guy.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
And and was that your first for into acting or
had you done some acting before.

Speaker 8 (15:40):
I've done some acting before, not as much as you,
but like on CSI New York and you know, some
stuff for CBS. It's been good.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
Fun here on Mario Lopez. We're rapping things up with
Pat Monahan from the band Train. And you mentioned.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Earlier that you're from Erie, Pennsylvania. How was How was
Christmas in Eerie?

Speaker 8 (16:02):
Well, it was cold most of the time, but filled
with a lot of love and laughter.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
Man, we laugh a lot.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
You got some white Christmases in there. Do you have
snow a favorite holiday memory growing up?

Speaker 8 (16:15):
Well, I just remember we were in a snowstorm one time.
But my brother, my brother Jackie, who was really a
father figure to me, came home from college. And just
seeing him come to the door in a snowstorm when
you would never expect anyone.

Speaker 6 (16:31):
To ever drive through it.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
It's like a movie.

Speaker 6 (16:33):
It was like a movie.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Man.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
It was really cool because I was a little kid
and he was my hero.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
That's awesome. That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Let me ask you, as a songwriter, is there a
Christmas song you wish you had written?

Speaker 8 (16:45):
Well, you mentioned Donnie Hathaway, but you know, I think
anything nat Cole has ever sung, you know, I think
the Christmas song by Mel.

Speaker 6 (16:54):
Tormay is incredible.

Speaker 8 (16:55):
There's so many of them, but I think financially maybe
jingle bells.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
Yeah, I was just thinking that. I was just thinking that.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
What about the best gift you ever received as a
kid during the holidays?

Speaker 6 (17:10):
Man, I think it's the same story.

Speaker 8 (17:11):
I think, you know, having my brother show up at
that at that front door, nothing really beats you know,
nothing you can unwrap this better than that.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, well, Pat, thank you so much for joining us.
I hope the holidays are Mary and bright for you
and Trey and my friend.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
Thanks man, I appreciate it helped to marry and bright
for you too.

Speaker 8 (17:29):
And I'm gonna take jiu jitsu and I swear that
in the next fifteen to twenty years, I'm gonna look
like you.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Let's do it. I'll look forward to it.

Speaker 7 (17:37):
Cabby Holidays from the entire on with Mario fam more
fest and fun coming.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Up more music in the mix.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
You're all Mario Lopez, but coming up after a few
more songs, a little lesson in music history, taking us
all the way back to nineteen sixty nine. You're a
Mario Lopez and on this day in history fifty four
years ago.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
In nineteen sixty nine, this became the biggest song in
the country. On a jet plane.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
That is a soothing folk jam.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
If I ever heard one, Leaving on a jet Plane
by Peter, Paul and Mary, written by John Denver, and
if you know John Denver, that's quintessential Denver. He recorded
it three separate times as a solo artist, but never
had a hit with it. Music returns in a moment, Charle, Mario,
Courtney Lopez, but first.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
One last Thing, One Last Thing.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
A nineteen year old has broken Arnold Schwarzennigri's fifty seven
year bodybuilding record. Anton Ratushni from Texas has become the
youngest person to go pro in bodybuilding. He earned pro
status by winning three titles. It's taken him four years
to achieve his physique Yeah, I saw this kid.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
That's what he is. He's really he's a kid. He's
nineteen years old.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
But men, he's got those Arnold type jeans. Fifty seven
years to break that wow, and it.

Speaker 5 (19:01):
Took him four years to achieve his physique. Man, I
can't even go for hours without having a piece of chocolate.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
No, that is an impressive discipline for that kid. So
good luck to you.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
Happy Holidays from the entire on with Mario fam Or
fested fun coming up.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
All right, I'm out here, but the music continues all night.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
I'm back tomorrow with Ryan Tedder from One Republic, claus
a New life Hack in Courtney's Corner until then, Mario
Lopez saying good night.
