firing up to zoom and chatting with Grammy winning singer
songwriter now podcaster Richard Marx back to get the scoop
on his new podcast, Stories to Tell and More. Don't
Move It's upbyer Ald Mario Lopez joining me right now.
Grammy winning singer and songwriter my man Richard Marks. How
you doing, Richard, I'm great, buddy.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (05:38):
I'm well.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Thank you for asking. This is exciting. You're getting into
the podcast game with a new show, Stories to Tell
You interview musicians and celebs. That's very cool, especially being
a big music guy myself. I'm gonna enjoy that. What's
the what's the wildest story you've heard so far?

Speaker 7 (05:55):
The wildest, most unexpected so far. When Kenny g told
me about getting.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Arrested, What did Kenny get arrested for that?

Speaker 7 (06:05):
Nobody in the world up to when when our show airs,
That's going to be the headline. The people didn't even
know that he got pulled over for some like random
just on the highway, and the cop arrested him, cuffed him,
took him downtown.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, so now we know the G stands for gangster
Kenny g by the way, which I'm sure he told you,
probably the best golfer out there as far as musicians
are concerned. I would say say, I think it's safe.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
To say, just to ask him. He'll tell you exactly.

Speaker 7 (06:41):
But a lot of people said, Kenny is not Kenny
is not shy.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Your golfer. I'm here Kenny might.

Speaker 7 (06:47):
Be the actually the best celebrity golfer on the on
the scene.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
That's a bold statement right there. That's very cool.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
I Richard hank Tach.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
We're going to take a quick break and come back
with more.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Richard Marx Nopez coming up.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Chatted with Richard Marx. You're on with Mario Lopez talking
about his new Stories to Tell podcasts and debut episode
with Paul Stanley from Kiss. That's cool. That must have
been some wild stories right there. I remember being a
little kid dressing up this kiss for Halloween.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
So what'd you learn about?

Speaker 3 (07:18):
What did you learn about Paul?

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Kind of like.

Speaker 7 (07:20):
How they how they even got started putting on the makeup.
That was really one of the things that I you know,
look some of these stories and some of these people.
I'm sure you experienced the same thing when you sit
down and you I'm not really interviewing, I'm just hanging
out right having a conversation exactly, but there is an
agenda in that I'm a host and they're the guest.

(07:44):
But a lot of these people are my friends, friends
for years. I mean, Paul and I are really great pals,
but we're kind of new friends. We became friends kind
of like during the pandemic, and we spent a lot
of time together. We go to look, I had breakfast
with them a couple of days ago, so I know
a lot about his life and his family and his history.
But then there are these little tidbits that come in

(08:06):
when you're just having a conversation in that kind of atmosphere.
I'm sure the same thing's happened to you, where you
sit down with somebody who you're actually friends with, who
you hang out with. Yeah, but then you're interviewing them
and you go, wait, I didn't know that everybody's got
great stories.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Well, I want to see because I want. I'm curious.

Speaker 7 (08:20):
I'm always like just waiting for the for the big surprise.
And in the case of Kenny g who's been my
dear pal for thirty something years, I was say, wait.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
You got rested and you didn't tell me. Yeah exactly,
And I got to find out how the makeup things started.
I don't know if they were just doing a fls.
I gotta find out about that, all right, more with
Richard Marx coming out, But first, more music. What a
Maria Lopez here? Getting back to Richard Marx was hanging
out on Zoom And besides your own music, of course,
you've written a bunch of songs for a lot of
other artists and a bunch of different genres too. Do

(08:50):
you have a favorite type of music to write for others?

Speaker 7 (08:54):
Oh, that's a good question. I don't have a particular
favorite one. But every time I've been sort of challenged
to go outside of what I would do for myself,
that's fine. So I'm the perfect example. Is is a
long time ago, like twenty years ago, but I wrote
and produced the first Josh Grobn.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Hit called to Where You Are? Oh wow, it was.

Speaker 7 (09:16):
You know, Josh was a kid, but he was really
based in opera and classical music, and I didn't really
come from that at all. Yeah, when I wrote the song,
I wrote the music. I used chor changes and I
channeled like opera and classical music, and it really inspired
me to write something unlike I'd ever written before. And

(09:37):
I was thrilled that the song became a number one song.
But you know, or even like country, you know, I
mean nobody would have nobody would think that a city
boy from Chicago would you know, have all these songs
with the country artists. But I've written hits with Keith
Urban and Vince Gill.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
And storytelling a storytelling. Yeah, at the end of the day. Yeah, yeah, No,
that's cool man.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
All right, Richard hay tight little more music. We're gonna
come back with Richard Mark al Mario Lopez, Richard Mars
hanging out on Zoom with us this hour. We've been
talking about his podcast. But you've also announced that you
joined The Voice Australia as a coach. That's cool. Anything
you're looking for in particular when choosing.

Speaker 7 (10:14):
Your team, Yeah, my criteria tends to be I mean, look,
you got to sing in tune. You can't be out
of tune. But it can't just be technically perfect. It
can't just be musical. I want to believe people when
they sing. It's got to be like and sometimes with
younger singers that is the thing that's hard to find,

(10:37):
is somebody who's really believable, who you really believe when
they're singing the words right. Yes, But the thing is,
you know, I've spent a lot of time in my
life in Australia, and there is something in the water there, Mario,
because the singers that come out of.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Australia are out of control.

Speaker 7 (10:52):
And so I'm really looking forward to finding and discovering
and mentoring some great young singers. But then I'm all
also selfishly just psyched because I love Australia and to
be able to basically live there for a couple of
months is uh, it's just icing on the cake.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
You know, that's going to be a blaster. Yeah, You've
read a lot of great talent ac DC and access
meant at work a lot of great.

Speaker 7 (11:14):
Even a lot of people that you know, Americans don't know.
Like there's a guy he's called he's considered the voice
in Australia, guy named John Farnham, who's legendary in Australia,
like the most famous person in Australia. Yeah, never crossed
over outside of Australia, never had hits here. I've known
him for a long time. He's an older guy now,
but his voice. If I played you when you come

(11:37):
over here.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
To the house, I'm ready.

Speaker 7 (11:39):
Remember, I'm going to play you a little bit of
John Farmer. Your mind's going to be blown. Those guy's
like the greatest singer you'll ever hear.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Oh, I want to check it out. He's a little
river band from Australia. They are great band.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
I like that.

Speaker 7 (11:51):
Some really in excess came out of Australia and.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Yeah, no, there were a lot of talent. All right,
one more thing I want to ask. We're going to
take a quick break and come back and wrap it up.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
The full interview now on with Mario Dunco. More Mario
Lopez on the way.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Wrapping up with Richard marx Is on zoom with us.
Mario Lopez here and quickly, man, I know you're hitting
the road for some tour dates in a twenty twenty
five here as well with Rick Springfield. That's an awesome show.
What can we look forward to and where can people
find the dates?

Speaker 7 (12:19):
The dates are well, there's a bunch of dates in
the fall, but we're doing coming up soon at the
end of this month Nashville, Atlanta and Birmingham. Birmingham, I
think so. Rick Springfield's another guy. He's a guest on
my show.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Good actor too, by the way, great actor, act, multi talented.
It's just too bad about his face.

Speaker 7 (12:41):
But yeah, it's too bad he's not handsome. Rick and
I've been great pals for like thirty five years or
something like that.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
The way to another Australian guy. Yeah, he's an ausy,
that's right.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
I just remembered Rick and I.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
Several years ago we teamed up and did a co
headlining tour, but it was like one of those tours
where this artist does their set, this artist does their set.
We did a song or two together, but it was
a little separate, you know. When we came back together
in the last year, Rick said, why don't we just
do the whole show together. So it's actually an acoustic show.

(13:16):
It's just me and him playing acoustic guitarist's cool, and
we just take turns. I do Endless Summer nights and
he sings and plays with me. We do Jesse's Girl,
I sing and.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Play with him.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
That's cool.

Speaker 7 (13:25):
It's two hours of just kidding around and messing around
and it's.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Like a party. So oh, that's fun.

Speaker 7 (13:33):
Come see me and Rick Springfield's that's a fun one.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Let me know you're going to be in La Man,
We'll be there. That's awesome. Well, congratulations on everything and listen.

gonna list off some celebs turning a year older. We're
gonna try to guess the ages.

Speaker 6 (14:41):
Who we got Michael Jackson's son, Prince Jackson.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Prince Jackson. We saw him not too long ago. He
was sitting next to us at a Dodger's event. Very
nice kid. Still looks pretty young though.

Speaker 6 (14:52):
See the older one. Yeah, he's the older one because
the younger one is blanket.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Yes, he's the older one, but still pretty young. I
want to say.

Speaker 6 (15:00):
Six thirty twenty eight.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Ooh, thanked him?

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Okay?

Speaker 6 (15:05):
From American Beauty Mina Savari.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Mina is I think she's meaning to turn forty seven?

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Oh no, that's Mina. She's younger than that.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
She is forty five, forty six right in the middle again, right,
Henry Rollins old school?

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Yeah, Henry Rolin has got to be fifty six.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
He's rollin into his fifty eighth years.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Sixty four, oh straight, okay.

Speaker 6 (15:37):
And Peter Gabriel.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Peter Gabriel's at least seventy Genesis.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
That's an old band, right, I can't give you hints.
What did you say seventy seventy seventy three, seventy five?

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Oh wow, more Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
You're all moral, Courtney Love Fez time learning New Live haag.
What is the topic today at Courtney's corner?

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Okay, well, no matter what the groundhog said, spring is
right around the corner, and that means spring cleaning is
also around the corner. So this is the most efficient
way to clean a house, according to the pros.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Okay, let's see.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
First pire someone no, exactly declutter or room. I am
a huge declutterer.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Yeah, same, you are a clutter. No, I'm not a clutterer.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
Is what is the closet? What does the closet look
like right now? Is it cluttered or not?

Speaker 1 (16:36):
It's not because I spent all morning putting away all
these clothes.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
I'm an unintentional clutterer, Like I just be getting stuff
and then I don't want to put it just anywhere.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
So you pile it.

Speaker 6 (16:45):
I let it pile, and then someone else deals.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
And at some point I go to declutter.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
But go on, okay, okay, well declutter. Don't be like
my husband. And if you're always stopping to move things,
you'll only waste time. So like, for an instance, if
you come home home and you take your shoes off,
don't just leave them by the door. Put them back
where they go. Then you're done.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
Sometimes they're a little wet, so I let them just
kind of drive a nine thousand.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Then you dust.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
You go from top to bottom, left to right, once
with the dry duster, once with a damp microfiber cloth.
Ok that, And then don't worry about getting dust or
dirt on the ground because you always vacuum last.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Okay, I'll tell you go from top to bottom. So
you're assuming things are put away because the.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
Dust that was the decluttering. Earlier, we cluttered away.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Think of all the linear space.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
Or Mario Lopez coming up on Mario Courtney Lopez taking
a quick second to get weird because it's time for
Courtney's random thought. What you got?

Speaker 1 (17:42):
So, do you even know where a microwave is?

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Okay, kitchen?

Speaker 1 (17:48):
What have you ever when you had to put numbers
in a time for the microwave instead of just hitting
like one minute or thirty seconds, you just be putting
random numbers in.

Speaker 6 (17:59):
Like four with your rational numbers.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Yeah, I'm gonna tell you why because sometimes, for example,
this morning, I had the little breakfast and then I
had my tortillas. I don't warm up the tortillas as
long as I do the breakfast, because then it gets
too it's too much. Yeah, So then you know, I
put like a minute twenty and I let it warm
up for a minute, and the extra twenties for the tortilla,
and I just kind of boom right there.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Do you leave it in for the full twenty or
you just yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Leave it for twenty twenty seconds. So I'm saying, I
do the breakfast a minute, don't turn it off, just
open the door, throw a tortilla, and then and then
I'm ready to go. That's a random number. I'm right.
Dot com this is the best place to keep up
with music, news, pop culture. All the celebs are stopping
by what's trending right now, Honeymore and Courtney Lopez.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Here, Mandy Moore recalls a terrifying wildfire escape and the
stomach churning anxiety it gave her.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
So she got mad recently because Amazon delivered a package
to the house that was burnt down. She got mad
at Amazon, But well, you know, I don't be ordering stuff.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
So well, you need to change the address, don't you.
If you don't change the address, and if it's something
that you like, have a recurring sort of order or whatever,
then it'll just show up.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
I'm saying, yeah, right, but somebody has to leave it there,
so I kind of.

Speaker 5 (19:09):
Get I mean, yeah, like the delivery person should look
and go, this is rubble.

Speaker 6 (19:14):
So I'm not gonna leave this here.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
