Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopezbro.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Mario Lopez joining me now on Zoom from the new
movie Beautiful Disaster actor Dylan Sprouse. Welcome to show, Matt.
How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:11):
How are you? Mario? This is a twofer. I get
to talk to you so close, back to back like this.
This is great.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I hope you do not get Mario overload, but it
is nice to us see you. Congrats on the movie, man,
it looked really cool. Got to see the trailer and
actually a couple of scenes. Beautiful Disaster is the name
of it. Describe the premise for us.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Yeah, I'll jump right into it. So it's based on
a popular book series that we adapted of the same name,
and it takes place in a sleepy college town where
a young girl, Abby Abernathy, trying to escape from her
gambling past, ends up falling in love with the underground

(00:54):
Fighter Travis Maddox, who, while she resists at first, comes
to love and so it's a romance based around these
two very flawed individuals with a lot of butt kicking
and a lot of comedy in between.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, the Underground Fighter you essentially m m A, I think,
is uh what what you started? Training and right were
you training before that, Dylan or or casually? I'm sure
you got really got into it for this role.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Certainly got more into it while I was in this role,
for sure. But yeah, I've always trained in mixed martial
arts here and there. I you know, took mma, jiu jitsu,
taekwondo growing up. But you know, nothing could have really
prepared me for the amount of work that I had
to do for this project particularly.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
And are you going to stay with it afterwards or
how did how did it leave you?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Definitely? No, I definitely I took with me a lot
of what I learned from the very talented stunt teams
that we had both in la and in Bulgaria where
we shot the movie.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
I even went so far as to build my own
home now, so you go, I'm trying to keep up.
The one thing I don't think I'll keep up is
the crazy diet that obviously you have to go on
for a film like this, which is just you know,
like ten slabs of unsalted sea bass and steamed bokley
and a big bowl of rice. It's just it's too

(02:18):
much that I'll wait to do for when having to
get into this shape again.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, when you got to appear shirtless, and it provides
a certain motivation to do it right there, And I
noticed you were rocking some serious ink in the movie.
And last time when I saw you, I didn't see
any other tattoos other than one in your palm, which
was really interesting.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, it's the only tattoo I have. Believe it or not,
I have a tattoo.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
And it covers the whole palm. I know.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Well, it's funny because you know, people ask me if
I have tattoos and I'm like, yeah, just one, and
I show them that and they're like, you picked the
most painful place to get your first tattoo. I was
unaware of how painful it was when I got it.
But funny enough, while filming this movie, as you could see,
we did about two hours of tattoo application unless every morning,

(03:10):
and the one that they covered up was my real one.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Oh my gosh, that's funny. That is funny. What is
there a backstory? And for both the location and the symbol?
What was it again? I can't I remember it was green,
but I can't remember them.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
It's a blue X hand and it's actually like one
of the early it's the earliest meaning of the X,
and it actually stands for the gift and the sacrifice.
And I got it tattooed on my deal shaking hands
so that if anyone tries to take from me, they
know that they have to give up something as well.

(03:44):
So I got that kind of spiritually tattooed on my hand.
And when it rubs off, I guess the mission was
all complete.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Look at that, and you've been pretty disciplined that that's
your only one. No plans for any others.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
I might, I might, But even this tattoo takes quite
a bit of time in the cover up, in the
makeup chair, right, And so maybe when when I know
I have a little more free time on my hands,
I'll get inked up. But for now, I think it's
just going to be this one.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
There you go, There you go. And is it true,
Dylan the studio has already green led a sequel to
this film.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
They sure have, yeah, which is a great blessed position.
We've already filmed it, believe it or not.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Really? So, did you did you do both of them
back to back?

Speaker 1 (04:30):
We didn't shoot them back to back, but we did
shoot the second one pretty recently we went down to
the dr to shoot it, so it was fun. It
was a fun shoot. But yeah, so I feel very
privileged to be in a position. It's definitely a vote
of confidence for them, for them, so that was kind
of cool to see.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Absolutely in cool locations, Bulgaria, Dominican Republic. Okay, nice man.
Also in the works a movie called Aftermath. What can
you tell us about that?

Speaker 1 (04:57):
After Math's great? So Aftermath is is me and a
few very very talented actions. I don't know how much
I can give away, so I'll try to keep it
pretty brief, but essentially, there is a bridge attack and
my character comes to the rescue. So it's very action oriented.

(05:20):
And it's been funny doing a lot more action films
these last few years for me, because if you asked
me four years ago whether I would be doing action films,
I don't know if I would have said yeah, But
I think people have liked to see so that's kind
of interesting for me and I have a ton of
fun doing them. So so I'm happy.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Good for you man, Good for you. I love it.
And I read you learned how to sword fight for
a role a few years back. Where'd you learn how
to do that?

Speaker 1 (05:50):
I did.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I went to China.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
I was in Beijing. I as filmed this movie out
there for a long time. We shot for six months
out there.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Oh wow, how was that?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
It was honestly amazing, man. I had such a cool
experience out there. I loved Beijing, where we were kind
of a station for the majority of it.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
We traveled all over That's where I.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Was stationed for the majority of it, and it was
really just living out my childhood fantasies, riding horses and
learning out a sword fight and doing a lot of
hand to hand combat. So that was very cool.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
It's about ass I get to do all that. Good
for you, man, Sure, it certainly was fun.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
I definitely recommend doing it if you can.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
And what's up with your IG page? Dellan? Did you
take down all your posts?

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Did not take down all my posts? You No? My
IG page, I just have one post going at a time,
and I rotate the first one out on all the time.
The rest of its kind of I drew like this
weird TV set about man seven years ago, and so
I try to keep it simple. I'd like a curated page.
It makes it more interesting me.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Hey, keeps our focus on point right there, I get
it right. Well, you know what. Congrats on everything you've
got going on. Be sure to watch Beautiful Disaster. It's
now on demand. Dylan, thanks for hanging out man, and
I hope to see you again in person soon.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
