Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez. Sobro Mario Lopez joreading me
now on Zoom from the new show Patty Stang or
The Matchmaker Patty Stang or welcome to the show, Patty.
How you been Hi, Mario?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
How you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
I'm doing well, Thank you. Congrats on the new show.
How does this version work?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
It's so different.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
I mean, it's got elements of milliare Matchmaker, which is
on Netflix right now. But the CW came to me
and they're like, people are just messed up post pandemic.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
We're gonna love pandemic. How do you fix this? So
we break people's patterns.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
We bring an experts, we do tasks, they get one
date at the end, and the stories are really compelling.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
They're regular people. You don't have to be a millionaire anymore.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
There you go interesting that Definitely you're able to cast
a wider net. That's for sure.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Hey, wider net, way, wider net.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
And your new sidekick is former bachelor Nick Vile. Right,
what's his role on the show.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah? I was real fan of his podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
I like the way he was on the women's side
for getting men to treat women better. So I invited
him on and he brought a couple of his friends on.
He's a little more mellower than me. As you know,
I'm a little bit out of the box. I didn't
tone it back.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
I threw to only two people got thrown out of
the house just too. But it's going to have him. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
And are there any celebrities or open out the season
or all?

Speaker 3 (01:16):
They all?

Speaker 1 (01:17):
No, No, it's.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Only a few. We have Gigi and Resi on, who
are there?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
My friends from Bravo from Shasa Sunset that was last week.
You can really you can watch the rear by downloading
the CW app.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
It's free.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
But we've got an nfler at the end of the season.
You know, I'm a big fan of the NFL. They
really built Millionaire Matchmaker for me. When we have Vicki
Gerson who comes on as an expert, she's going to
teach women how to level up and get better men
because she got a better man. And then we have
Jeff Lewis, my best friend, who basically brings on she
and his assistant to be fixed up. Okay, yeah, but

(01:53):
everybody else is pretty normal like in regular So got it?

Speaker 1 (01:56):
And how would you say the dating scene has changed
in the I don't know, five seven years.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
It sucks. It sucks.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
It sucks because like they are very few gentlemen that
go up and walk up to a woman and say,
I'd like to ask you out. You're beautiful, and no
one's asking anyone out. I'm not saying that we have
the apps. The biology hasn't changed, just the technology. But
everybody's like sitting at home, not going out, not meeting anyone,
not communicating, and not looking up from their phones. They

(02:27):
are so disconnected. And this younger generation is so screwed.
I mean, they're worse than we were because they don't eat.
They're gonna date AI. That's what's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
It's gonna be an AI world.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
That is scary when you think about it. So what
kind of women are are guys looking for? Would you say?
These days?

Speaker 3 (02:47):
You know, I think the guys are looking for a
woman that appreciates them. That's you know other than hah
and half their age right appreciates them.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
But then women, and you know a lot of them.
I watch you so uh the men.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
You know, it's like it's kind of like we want
water seeks its own level at you age up, you
get tired, you know, like we saw in The Golden Bachelor,
like whether or not it's true the city situation.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
People don't want to travel.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
They want to be with the person they want and
they couldn't agree on that, so they want kind of
lazy right now, everyone's kind of lazy, Like if you
don't live if I live in the valley, right, yeah,
I want to date in the valley, Like they don't
want to go to the West Side, right and you know,
Solo doesn't want to go to Brooklyn. Like it's kind
of like we used to travel to get love. There
was no love, had no borders.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
It's like we found the right person. It was the
right person. So I think there's a lot of laziness.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Going on that is that's really sad. I'm sort of happy.
I'm locked down.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
I mean, I was telling I was telling the crew
the other day, how you gave the best engaged ring
I had ever seen of any celebrity.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Is that right?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yes, You're there was round.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
It was like my dream ring when she got it,
and she was like, oh my god, Mary has such
good taste.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Oh thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh damn, you
gotta tell the story again on Access.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
We will tell it on that happen.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Oh you're the vest It is this true? You say
there's no good man in LA. I can see that.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yes, they're kind of children kindergarteners that if you're sixty
you still want twenty five and you're not going, you
know words, not seeking its own level. Then they're like
expecting the women to slip into the DMS.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I'm not going to put Nick down, but he did.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
His fiance we had a baby with, did slip in
his DMS and she was in North Carolina and said
pick me, pick me and saw him on the Bachelor
and was like gaga.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
So we just saw Keanu Reeve's girlfriend proposed.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
I'm not saying it's wrong, but I'm just saying, like,
what happened to the Alpha?

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Where did he go? What city did he move to?
Because we're going there.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
I agree with you. Everyone talks about this toxic masculinity
and listen, there's something to be said maybe for the toxicity,
but the masculine part you can't do away with. No,
you do need those.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Every girl needs that. I see moving to Austin and Florida.
Can we have some in La? You know?

Speaker 1 (05:05):
That's I'm with you, And you mentioned the Golden Bachelor's
demise a little earlier.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I was upset about that for them.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah, you know, I was kind of surprised, only because
when you when you're at least theoretically when you're a
little older, you feel like you get tracked together, you
know what you want, You're not kind of really going
to play these games. And I guess that that didn't
really change, kind of just went through the motions and uh,
they even did a family feud episode together and.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
I've seen that. Did you see that already?

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Nobody? But it's going to air. But they had already
had been broken up prior to that, so they were
kind of sort of in on it. Who's I was
just sort of surprised, But yeah, were you surprised?

Speaker 2 (05:43):
I wasn't surprised.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
On look, he liked he liked the Jewish girl, like
the you know, the brother was like a rabbi or something,
and he's a dun hurt my sister. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
but I was I was like, Okay, now you switched
to Teresa because she has more money?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
What is that about it? I did? It was a
wee your kind of connection. I think ABC did an amazing.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Job because it shows that older people are gonna watch TV.
So the Golden Bacherette's going to be even better. Twenty
five men vying for one woman. I cannot wait. I'm
gonna be like, you know, like that. However, they didn't
do anything wrong. You know, you can't make two people
stay together. And when the cameras go away, they have
to realize real.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Life sets in.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
You know, that's the one thing I don't think they understand.
They get so hyped up because they're just a quester.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
And then it's like, oh, wanh wanh wanh wanh you
know where are we going to live?

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Right?

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Like, you couldn't say, I'll move to Jersey. I'm from Jersey.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Hello, I go.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
I'm with you right there. What about your own life
anyone special the moment or.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Oh my god, Mary, I need you to fix me up.
I'm single right now? I shot the show?

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Did you really?

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Okay? And are you are you seeing anyone just casually
or are you just O? No?

Speaker 2 (06:58):
No, I'm full on single fun All right, Well we'll
talk later. Alright, sounds good.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Congratulations on everything, and listen, you can watch Patti Stanger,
the Matchmaker Thursdays on the CW. Patty, thanks so much
for having out, so much for having me. You got
it all right, so I'll see you later.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
