Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hey, before we do the five or sixt eighty five.
I know this is a huge time that a lot
of high school kids listen to us. If you are
listening to this radio show and you go to Lutheran North,
or you go to Cardinal Mooney High School, or you're
a fan of this radio show and you want to
help out a friend, I want you to listen up
for one second. Have you, guys, ever had a friend

(00:26):
of yours be seriously ill and completely keep it from
you and you did not know what was going on
for literally months. Yes, so we have a friends of ours.
He actually was Luke's favorite teacher that he had no
offense to any of the other teachers, but he was

(00:47):
a male teacher. So mister P was one of the
guys that Luke. All Luke wanted was mister P. And
you know how you wish for your teachers, like, this
was the guy he wanted. He wanted him because he's cool.
He's the guy that played football with the kids. He
would do stuff with him.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
He was awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
He's the best, mister P. Bobby Patterson became then a
friend of ours. You know, his wife Kelly and Chelsea
and myself and you know, love that family so much.
They got beautiful young kids. He and I go back
and forth on text messages. We've been doing this for
you know, well over a year. With the Lions getting
all crazy. He keeps thinking that our show is screwing

(01:24):
up because we haven't come up with a theme song
for the Lions, like we need to have, Like he said,
every championship team has a song like Don't Stop Believing
by Journey is like, you know, one that teams have
taken in the past. Or he'll like pick like certain
songs like he said, you know, there's always got to
be some kind of so he'll always send me like
songs randomly. I just get like a bunch of music
sent to me, you know, basically from him. And I

(01:46):
didn't find out until literally three or four days ago
that Bob is battling cancer, and he kept it quiet
from a lot of people, and then he told some
of the people that told about it to keep it
quiet from others. And so far since Bob has been

(02:08):
more vocal about it. And it's because of who we're
going to talk to next. Coach Mike is on the
phone with us right now. He is the varsity basketball coach,
and he has been for more than twenty how many
years now at Cardinal Mooney.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
This is my twenty seventh season.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
His twenty seven season Cardinal Mooney High School in Marine City.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Right morning, coach, that is correct, Good morning guys, Thanks
for having me on.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
This guy knows so many different people like her best friends,
you know, with Tommy Izzo and best friends with Greg Campy.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
I don't hope i'd go that round.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Well, they love you, they they Bobby Patterson, how about that?
And best friends with Bobby Patterson. So you had reached
out to a couple of different coaches just to talk
to them and see if they could give words of encouragement,
including coach lou Holtz. And he had Coach lou Holtz
give him a video saying to him, hey, you got this, Bob,
and and and then it's spurred on to we're going

(03:03):
to start telling people that Bob's going through this and
coach Bobby's been going through this since June. He's a battler,
he's a winner. He's going to win this thing. And
you're putting together a fundraiser tonight. But before we give
everybody the details about that, will you tell everybody in
the short few days. How much money has been raised

(03:24):
on a GoFundMe page for Bob Patterson.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
So Bobby fought me on this obviously, as you know, Mojo, Bobby,
you know, can be hardheaded at times. But I got
to the point with Kelly and Bobby and I said, look,
I'm just going to ask for forgiveness instead of permission here.
So we started to go fund me on Tuesday afternoon
and as of this morning, between the go fundme and

(03:50):
a few private donations, we have raised over ninety three
thousand dollars.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
So mister P, as Luke call him, mister P, has
touched so many people, including my son, Luke, his friend's
land In and Evan. They've all personally donated money. They're
probably college beer drinking money to help out. To help
out mister P, who is a he's a school administrator

(04:19):
over at Maris Notre Dame Prep, and his wife is
the assistant principal also at the middle school at Notre Dame.
So they're both on school people's salaries, and so we
want to try to make it possible that they don't
have to worry about taking time off from work to
be able to get healthy. But tonight you're doing something

(04:39):
at the Cardinal Mooney Lutheran North game. What are you doing, coach?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah, so Bobby, it's important to me because Bobby and I
met here at card Mooney. We're both alumni at Cardi Mooney.
We've met here at fourteen years old in nineteen eighty nine,
played three sports together. When I found out about this,
I had this idea. He fought me on and then
I finally just ran with it. And we're doing what
we're calling balling for Bobby, which all the proceeds tonight
from T shirt sales or concessions our gate are fifty

(05:07):
to fifty All of that cash checks, everything will be
donated and taken home with Bobby and Kelly tonight. So
it is no doubt in my mind that we will
be well over one hundred thousand dollars to our family
by the time we're done tonight.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
That's incredible is you're you know what the first off, coach,
You are an excellent coach. You're a great mentor to
these kids. But you're even better. You're a great best
friend to Bob Patterson, to mister p Well.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
I appreciate that there's not a shadow of a doubt
in my mind that if the roles were reversed, Bobby
Patterson would step up for me. Bobby has been there
for me my entire life. He has showed up in
my hardest times. He was there when my father passed
away for me three years ago. As a matter of fact,
you know how it is when you grew up in
the eighties and nineties, like mister and Missus Patterson's house,

(05:56):
I walked in like I lived there, yea. And every
time he walked in my house, I think my parents
were more excited to see him than they were mer Yeah,
I think they loved him more than they loved me.
But it's just it's something that's important to me.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
You know. Friendship.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
You and I talked about this yesterday, Mojo. Friendship as
you get older and life takes different courses, friendship isn't
measured in how many times you see or talk to
each other. It's measured on whether you show up or
not when you're needed. And that's all this is about,
is just showing up for Bobby. And it's a testament
to Bobby, not not anybody else. I'm just facilitating the

(06:33):
amount of money raised is because of the incredible impact
he has had on so many people in both communities.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
You know, Mojo and I talked about it yesterday.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
The best way I can describe Bobby for people that
don't know him, whether you've spent five minutes with Bobby,
five hours with Bobby, or thirty five years with Bobby,
like myself, you feel better after every single interaction. Yeah,
very few people you come across that make you feel.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
That way to say about he made he listened, He
made my child better, and he made my family better.
And you know, there's that famous movie It's a Wonderful
Life at the end when George Bailey's brother Harry comes
in and says to my you know, big brother, George,
the richest man in town, to Bobby Patterson, the richest

(07:21):
man in town. You are getting through this, saying, and
you know what, you are rich with love and friendship.
And I truly believe that will get his immune system
better and the doctor's better, and Kelly and the kids better.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
And so when they.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Get through this saying, you know, we'll look back on
it and we'll have a bigger celebration for for Bob Patterson.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, and Kelly's been an absolute.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Kelly's a saint, right, I mean she started her canonization
process of becoming a state by mirroring body.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
But through all of this she has been the backbone
for him.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Sure. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
He he loves his family, loves his wife dearly. And
I will tell you this the power of prayer. If
our listeners can just say a prayer for Bobby Patterson,
I think that that works. Coach, go get them tonight.
Lutheran North ain't no sloud, I have to say.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Go Mustang. Sorry, that's where my step kids go to school.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
But it's going to be a great game and you're
going to raise a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
I'm not sorry, Coach.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
I think it's going to be a fun game tonight.
So everybody Cardinal Mooney High School tonight.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah, I love you, buddy. Take care of yourself. Is
really really If anything good comes of this is that
you and I have gotten a chance to meet and
we're all always be friends.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
So we'll celebrate together.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Talk to you, coach.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I appreciate what you guys are doing. Bye.
