Thank god it's Friday, no hump Day and Wednesday. Thank
god it's Friday. We're having our fourth Simons College High
School Game Day. Yes, we're at Manual High School. Traditional.
You know they think they're big time, got all the
advanced programs and all the big time principals, all.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
The great coaches. We're gonna get everybody on.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
But first and foremost, I want to introduce George Williams.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
George, welcome sitting there with us. Hey, thank you, mister,
so good to be here with you. I don't want
to see your face, George.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Well, I was looking down. I got to face for radio. George,
I was looking down. You look at my face. If
you just want so and amed with me, you wouldn't
be looking for my face. If I look like you,
I wouldn't say a word. Imitation is not a good thing, George.
That's all I'm gonna say. If anybody imitates you, they
need to stop. Well, that's all they need to stop.
I'm sorry, we got a prom.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
George. Stop. I got.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Down, George. Let's bring on my son, my other co host,
slowed down. I know, I know, and welcome George is
excited people. We got a calm George down. Andy, Welcome
to the show.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
How are you well?

Speaker 4 (01:13):
For the people that weren't up this morning on the radio, they're.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Up now now exactly we got con slowed George down,
I'm telling you, and he won't even let us get
you introduced.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Man, he's so pumped up today. I didn't know was
with us. Yeah, he's always with us. I know, I
didn't know. Goody, there you go.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Now, George, We've got the principal of Manuel High school
S tweet.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
It's Michael Newman. Welcome to the Spirts Radio. How are you.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
I'm doing great, honestly, not quite the same energy that
you all have quite yet, but I'm gonna get there
by the end of the day because we have a
big game tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Pep role at lunch George and they say this place
is going to be packed right here.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Well, Michael, I'm sorry we had to come on and
act like we did about the man had no coop
about itself. You know, he comes on the show. He
embarrassed me at first time I've ever met you, and
then he comes on and he tries to show out.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
You know, I was just gonna simply say, I'm glad
that you finally brought somebody that can maybe class.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
It up a little bit. Uh, a little sharp face
for radio. That's about it.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
But you know, but you are Tennessee joined a good crowd.
He's a Tennessee vall and you got busted twice. Wild
Cats busted you twice. I know, but you know I
picked Tennessee in the last game and they twice.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
It's tough sometimes sometimes you know what they're gonna come.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Through without a doubt.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Michael, nothing against you, But I love when he has
to bowl and talk about my my Kentucky Wildcats about
busting you guys, because he loves the player's little song
when he does that, and this year he can't play
the little song.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Jerry, I picked Tennis. I don't want to hear with
you Tennessee. I don't care. I was playing Rocky Top
on Tuesdays. What you got to do let me down?

Speaker 3 (02:48):
That was that was the bet, without a doubt, And no,
they didn't let you down. What happened to him was
nothing personal against you.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Mike. He's a Wildcat.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
His true colors. But anyway, welcome to the show. Tell
you thank you, We appreciate you having us in. Of course,
Jack in the Box is our sponsor for Simmons College
High School game Day.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
It's our first one. It's really been going well.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
But tell us what's going on at Manual High School
that you need to get out that people need to know.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
Well, let me just start with I want to give
a big shout out to our teaching staff. You know,
right now, our teachers are working super hard. You know,
we have a lot of community illness in the area.

Speaker 6 (03:27):
It is.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
We're moving into February or towards the end of February,
which is always kind of that long stretch getting the
spring break. But they are here, day in, day out
building a foundation that our kids can launch from. And
that's what Manual's about, is preparing students to launch forward
in their life, whether it be through our academic program,
whether it be through experiences out in the community actually

(03:52):
even internationally, as well as our athletics program. And so
you know, I'm very thankful for all their hard work
because they are really the true foundation and backbone of
the school.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
How the principal here dupart Man.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
Four years now four years and where did you come
from before here? So before that, I was actually at
Western High School in Louisville and was actually it was
there for a total of fourteen years. Seven years of
that was as a principal, six as an assistant principal,
one as a teacher, and then prior to all that,
I was in Tennessee, both in Maryvale area outside of

(04:28):
Knoxville and down in Chattoo, Tennessee.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
George and I know a lot about the tradition here,
especially athletically.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
George played back in the day when Phil Bond was
roaming some of.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
The greater players, some of the tradition of the school.
But you all have done a great job. Magnet School
of course traditional advanced program talk about some of the
programs that you have.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
So pont Manuel is made up of five Magnets.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
We have our Youth Performing Art School, so that is
anything from band, orchestra, choir, theater, musical theater. We had
piano and guitar. We also have Design and Production, which
is the kind of what you would see building up
a set of a play from.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Something along those lines.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
We also have our Math, Science and Technology Magnet. We
have our Visual Arts magnet, so more in the painting
the hands on arts fields of study. We also have
our Journalism and Communications magnet, and then we have our
high school university, which is the best way to describe
this is a very robust liberal arts experience at a

(05:30):
high school where we challenge our kids to not only
just take core academic classes and electives, but rather we
challenge our students to move into advanced programming dual credit,
as well as trying to select electives that align towards
a future interest.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
We know that you're aligned with the University of Louisville.
Of course, I'm an alumni there. I used to stay
straight down Second Street. I walk by the school every
day my senior year. But just tell us about the
relationship with the University of Louisville.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
That you all have.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
University of louis has been a long standing partner of
DuPont Manual High School. They have allowed our students to
take dual credit courses on their campus, so we're really
kind of dual enrolled, where our students actually go over
and participate in college like a college student. This is
not necessarily just limited to Manuel, but instead all high

(06:24):
schools can do that. However, because we are right across
the street, it is very easy for us to then
allow our students to walk across the street, attend those classes,
and still come back and take part in our regular
day as well.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Now athletic event, big game tonight. Yes, we have to
talk about your attire. You look like a hoosier.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
You look like you do.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
I don't like Bobby Knight either, not a who'sion. But
you've got your crimson on what's going on today? Of course,
Manu Shiny, huge game, pep Riley, Georgia. You come to
the game tonight.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
I'm a thing.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
I'm a try to get back here because I used
to coach Itt Shiny, so I want to come by
and just see what's going on. And one of the
young men that's coaching is Shiny. I helped get through college,
you know. I mean we work together through his career
to go to college and he's graduated. Now he's into
the coaching ranks, and I like to just come back
and show him some respect and let him know that
I got supported him. Nothing against Manuel, but he is

(07:20):
a young man that I am proud of, and he's
making a journey into helping young men. He's changed his
life and he graduated two years ago. So I want
to come by and show my respects for both of
you guys.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
So Coach, what's going on today? Princeville Newman? What's gonna
go on? About twelve o'clock in the gymnasy. I heard
the place will be completely sold out.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
It will be packed from bottom floor all the way
up to the top. Our students come down for a
pep rally. And you know, I just I believe in.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
The school spirit.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
I believe it's very important for students to see that
you can connect to an institution.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
There are many ways of.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Doing that, and I know going all out and you know,
being over to the top exuberant is not for everybody.
But I'm not that way most times. So I'm pretty reserved.
I'm pretty in control. But when it comes to game
days and things like that, I just go all out.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I love honest. I did buy an orange and white
checkered one as.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Well, first Tennessee ball. But he looks like oser today
and he looks like well man was ready.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
No, I really appreciate your outfit.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Yeah, that director told me that he caught you off guard,
and I'm kind of glad that you have it all
because we've got you on tape.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Now, I know it will be forever emblazoned. I can't
wait for the memes that come on the backside of
all this. It's all good, it's all fun, and you know,
I'm just very proud of our school. I'm very proud
of our coaches. You know, congratulations to Coleman on his
hundredth when this week, and you know, I'm ready to

(08:51):
to get our kids hyped up and back for the
actual game at night. And then of course we have
our dance, which is always fun. Uh So it's it's
gonna be a long day ahead for us, but we're
we're here for our kids, and we're here for our
our faculty, and uh we're gonna live in this moment
in March on the victory.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
What well, this is one of the things that me
and Jerry talk about all the time because when we
came through high school then it was it was always
great traditions, pep valleies and and great times in high schools.
And so we look forward to seeing a principle that
takes on the reins and comes back and supports the programs.
So we think It's a fantastic thing because we always
talk about the greatest times of your life. You can
go to college, you can go to the pros, you

(09:30):
can do a lot of things, but you'll always remember
your college I mean your high school career.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Preach George.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Yeah, absolutely still remember mine. We can't speak where that
was inside this building might have been a rival up here,
but well that.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
One over today.

Speaker 7 (09:45):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
But you know, I think you're absolutely right, you know,
being able to, you know, demonstrate that experience, come back
and support the program. You know, creates the memorable experiences
for our students. And you know, I still think of
the principle that I have you know, very great mentor
turned out to be one of my mentors as I
became an educator and then a principal in the district.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
That was Joe Burks.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
I'll give him a big shout out, and you know,
I just remember, like someday I'll be able to do
something like that for for someone else, just as you know,
you're the show that coach of Shawnee was was one
of your players at one point in time. You know,
I'm now at a at an age where I'm starting
to see the kids of my kids coming through school,
and it's you know, it's kind of it's kind of fun.

(10:30):
I've got one currently here, I've got another one that
just got accepted because it's a mission season, you know,
very talented young individual who is going to be coming
into our mass science technology program.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
So it's it's really surreal to start to see.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
I got the last question though, before we let you go,
and this is an important one and a lot of
parents have asked you that, So I want everyone to
know that we're talking to Michael Newman prince Wood Manual
High School.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
The enrollment to get.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Into these magnet programs, how what are the what's the
scenario for a parent? What do they go through if
they want to get their kids into Manual High School?

Speaker 2 (11:05):
You know, how much time do we have?

Speaker 5 (11:09):
It is a pretty I hate to say that it's complicated,
but it's not complicated because it's just specific for each magnet.
So therefore you have to start to explain the nuances
of each magnet. And that's important because the best way
of thinking about this is that we are five unique
schools housed under one larger institution, and the emission season

(11:31):
for this year has already closed. And now offers are
going out and being accepted or declined. But in short,
every year we produce a emissions website that we go
live with the current ear information. You start with applying
to j CPS to declare that you're wanting to come
to DuPont manual and one of our magnets, and then

(11:55):
from there there is a manual application for each magnet
and you then submit.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
It again Visual arts, math and science and technology, correct.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
Visual arts, maths, science, technology, journalism and communication, high school,
university and why pass youth performing Arts and everything that's
needed to apply. We lay it out on the website.
We produced the rubrics. We give guidance on what questions
you'll be answering. We also explain which type of evidences

(12:26):
you need to upload so that way we can score
them for criteria because we are a criteria magnet, which
means the students have to meet the criteria of the
school in.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Order to be admitted. Transparency is key.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
It's very key, and I know that there's some confusion
in the district, but in the end we want to
be a transparent poltic.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
So just why I let Principal Newman go last question, No,
it's really no question. I really love what you're saying.
We always say this on the show. I appreciate when
you came on and talked about your staff and what
they're going through. You talked about fighting the flu. I've
had that flu. It laid me down for three days.
For them to come in here and to take the
work with these young people and taking the chances that
they do, and to make the citizens that they do

(13:06):
out of this community, and Manualst known for its academics naturally,
not just locally, but naturally. I just want to salute you,
the program, the teachers, and thank you for what you
guys are doing it because I know you don't get
it enough, but we'd like to thank you for everything
you guys do and wish you the best tonight.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 6 (13:22):
Appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Michael Duman, Principal, Manyua High School, first time I met you.
Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Esports Radio, we're gonna go to our first break of course,
were sponsored by Jocking the Box. Make sure that you
get out to the two locations. There will be eight
locations open by the end of the year. Esports Radio
will talk to you in a minute.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Welcome back to Eve Sports Radio seven twenty two. On
February the fourteenth, twenty twenty five, We're at Manual DuPont
Manuel High School. We just had Michael Newman on Principal.
We've got the one and only have let director Dave
zuber On with us at this time. Dave, appreciate you
having us in your gymnasium, beautiful place, feel Bond home
of Phil Bond.

Speaker 8 (14:00):
Bi Bond, Kevin Gray, Butch Charmola Gymnasium, longtime athletic director
at Manuel's named after him forty years of service. I
always tell people I will never have anything named after
me because I'm not working for forty years.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
I'll never have anything named after me because I'm just
not good enough. But we've of course got George Williams
on with this. Guys, and Anthony, are you still with us,
my son, I'm still here. Andy, tell me something really
quickly before we get Davon. Did you play Manuel? Anthony?

Speaker 2 (14:30):
We played?

Speaker 4 (14:30):
We played.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
I have no good, Anthony, I'm no good at all.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Tell him what happened in that game? Dominique Sutton, George,
you remember that game?

Speaker 2 (14:38):
George?

Speaker 1 (14:39):
A great comeback? Oh, it's the fact the reason. Yes,
Joe oh Oh tell us about that was a game.
Anthony tell us about that game.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
I mean, it's very self explained to you know, I said,
I said, Manuel, the Cancun for you. I made it
quick and easy. They thought it, they thought they had us.
You know, I can't sit here that like. I didn't
have a little doubt in my mind in that game
because we were down. Boy, thank you, I did.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
I did.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
I had a little.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
I just just a time, not a lot. But I
was like, man, I was like, if I don't come
out here and play the second half, this is my
last high school game ever. Once I thought that, I
was like, I was like, no, this can't be it.
I was like, especially not the Manual. I'm sorry, no disrespectful.
I was like, I'm not into my career on Manual
high School at Valley High School. I was like, this
is this is not gonna happen like this. He came

(15:30):
out the second half and we applied some pressure, and
you know, they said pressure makes diamonds performs cold and wet.
We thought, what happened to man? When we put that
pressure on them, they didn't handle go ahead?

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Now, I think, and it's talking a little confident that Jerry,
because every bad in is staying. Thought they were on
their way out of that, bro, you know what I mean.
Not only that, and not only that, Jerry. I thought
it was a very controversial call to end the game.
And it's talk about how they it out. I paid
for that.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
It looked like somebody paid for it, Jed, and that
it was involved.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
So so Jeed, I was taking pictures and I was
on top of it, and I say it was a
little controversial that you thought it was a back court Huh.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
No, I thought you found it.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
I didn't know your dad man. I thought you found
the end of regulation. Of regulation, actually did found they
called it. I jumped any pump take and he and
he scored and got an am.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
Remember when we got the ball on the ground, that's
the one I remember at the end of the game
and half court. I thought, you you got a little
touch of that and my eye it was one of
the best games of the nights. Now, I will say
that now it had been a great and fantastic game
for the fans.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
It was everything you could have won it.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
It was now that you know how we feel about Yeah.

Speaker 6 (16:57):
I was there.

Speaker 8 (16:58):
I was there everything you said, it happened. I remember,
because we did. I think we were apped by seventeen
and half. And course I had let myself start to think,
do I need to start playing for a Sweet sixteen trip?
And then Ballard played phenomenal the second half. Dwayne Sutton
played well, and I cannot remember the kid at Ballard
who was the best player that year?

Speaker 2 (17:18):
Yes, what was it? And what was your teammates name?

Speaker 8 (17:25):
They had a stretch him and Dwayne Sutton in the
third quarter where it was back and fourth. Yeah, eight nine,
ten straight possessions where they were just amazing play after
amazing playing, and uh, it was a fantastic game. Ballad
obviously was a great team and earned the game, and
they were well deserved to go Sweet sixteen that year.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
What was the little guard that you had planned for
you that was hitting all those threes that night? I
believe it was Jared Harness man, I mean Jered this
young man. I bet if he could have just maintained
his stamina, I think.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
That he shots Anthony from every in the court.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
I don't know if I'm glad.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
I'm glad George said maintain Sam.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Oh yeah, I mean I.

Speaker 6 (18:10):
Got loose.

Speaker 8 (18:13):
Definitelyships got that long courted valley and we went into
overtime and Harness was also the student I believe got
the technical found called on Yes, basically just ended the
game when that call was made. And uh, but it
was a back and fourth game in the second half.
It could have been either could have won that one.
So that's a tough one. I will tell you that

(18:33):
you all went straight to one of them.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
I had to go to. We've been here. That's the way,
that's how we see what we're dealing with.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
So tell us, we're gonna bring your coaches on what's
transferring to it, Manua that you want to get out.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Well, we tried to just continue to have excellence. Uh
we are.

Speaker 8 (18:52):
I was telling you earlier when we when we were
coming in that we're in a unique part of our
season where we overlap our winter sports who are having
fantasting seasons. We're gonna probably talk a lot about basketball today,
but we also have done well with our wrestling teams,
our swim teams, our bowling teams. We've got we won
a state championship and dance this year we won an

(19:16):
esports We have a very good esports program. So all
of our winter sports have done very well, and then
with the weather, all of our spring sports, we're trying
to figure out how do we do work practices in
so we saw the girls across team practicing this morning.
We've got our tennis teams, our baseball, softball track. We've
won four straight girls track state championships, so we're doing well,

(19:40):
and a lot of things I try to not get
in the way. I want to help coaches and facilitate
and help navigate challenging situations, but also let them do
their job. So that's always a challenge for me. I
haven't had a perfect year yet. I always tell coaches,
none of us have had perfect years. We try to
have perfect years. Try we keep on pressing. We want

(20:01):
to be role models for our Bobby knightsir very many. No,
I don't know if you all ever say people I
coached here back they two thousand and five, and I
don't know how many times I'll tell people I'm not
sure if I could coach in twenty twenty five, just
because of what's expected of our coaches and here at Manual.

(20:21):
One of the extra challenges is we have students here
that may be excellent at sports, but they probably have
an equal talent in something else. They could be an actor,
a singer, an artist, very a scientist. They have another
talent beyond athletics, which requires our coaches and teams to
make sure we can work with students if they have

(20:42):
a science fair, if they have a performance, if they
have something academic that may pull them from the team
so that that student can focus on that as well.
So our coaches do great work with our kids, but
also continue to put great teams on the field.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Well, David, we appreciate you have us in fantastic If
people have not been to manual lately, they need to
come to a game Tonight would be nice. Shining High
School tonight seven thirty, five thirty for girls.

Speaker 8 (21:09):
Girls are starting at five forty five boys and the
boys of seven thirty tonight this is our last we're
in the district with Shawnee.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
This is our last district game.

Speaker 8 (21:16):
So the winner of tonight's games will determine the seeding
for the upcoming district tournament. So these are important games
for us. I know our kids in the building are excited.
It's it's been a unique start to the spring semester
with all the days we've missed from school, so we
got a dance tonight. We have a PEP rally today,
so I know the kids are super excited about that.
And then they have a five day week, a four

(21:37):
day weekend. Excuse me exactly. We don't have Monday, Tuesday, Monday.
So we're gonna have a fantastic day and night tonight.
Hopefully the kids will get to come and have some fun,
go to a dance, enjoy themselves, and get back to
just being good teenagers.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Day. We appreciate it. Seven thirty, we're gonna go to break.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
You all got about five minutes of announcements, so we're
gonna take a commercial break. We're sponsored by Jacking the
Box too. Locations from New Albandy to Jeffersonville to the
Outer Loop all the way to Shepherdsville. Jack in the Box,

to Simmons College High School Game Day sponsored by Jack
in the Box. We're at Manual High School. We've had
the principal on, We've had that elect director on. Now

(22:34):
we've got Ashley Franklin used to be Ashley Butler, former
student of Manual High School. George. I think she can
play George and George. I got to her right off
the bat. See your men's coach Balat took him down.
They beat my bruins. She doesn't know they beat my brunce,
but I know they did. I don't like that, so

(22:54):
I appreciate you coming on.

Speaker 9 (22:56):
But you beat my bruins always.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
It's always pig farm, So I understand why you beat
them like you do.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
You know what I mean. Miss ashk got pedigree. It's
a pig for him. Yeah, Mississippi call us champions. Yeah.
I coached Miss Ashley's mother to a championship. About that, well, Jer,
I used to.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
When I was at University of Louisville, they had a
women's in the real team and they needed a coach,
and the BSU asked me to go coach. Her mother
was a great guard Sanita, you know what I mean.
Ms Cat Brown, a young lady we called Tree. We
had I had an outstanding team, Jered. We lost our
first three games. After that, we never looked back and
we took the trophy on home. Then she passed the

(23:36):
jeans on her. Also, I know her father, you know
she passed the jeans on her. She was fast on
fast jail. She had everything she needed. She was a
heck of a ball player. I haven't seen a coach,
but tonight I'll be here to watch a coach and
see what she can do.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Yes, beautiful young lady, appreciate you coming on the sports radio.
We really do appreciate that. And your team's playing well.
Fourteen to nine one last night, sixty six sixty Oldham
County did your South tough?

Speaker 9 (24:00):
What happened? They did? They're a really good team. We
played a lot of freshmen last night. We're guard heavy
and we have a lot of freshmen. We actually really
start three freshmen, so we're a pretty young team. That's
not an excuse for anything. But there's a lot of
defensive rotations that they're not familiar with that we're breaking
down and learning. We're teaching them a lot. It's more
than just trying to score. We're trying to work the ball.

(24:22):
We're trying to do some things that they're not used
to them out of their comfort zone. So thirteen and
nine it's not good. But if you understand what we're
dealing with, trying to take studs and create role players
and make them build on their IQ, you'll understand where
we're coming from. And we've also played in Carne and
Word like the number fourteen team in the nation. We

(24:42):
had His Sacred Heart. We've had some heavy games, so
we've thrown them in.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
The fire this year. Now, tell us a little bit
about your background, coach.

Speaker 9 (24:50):
I went to Dupine Manyo High School, played the Kentucky
All Star. I played with the heck of a team
Nika Irons. I don't know if anybody's familiar with our
Chelsea time. I mean we had we went to stay
every year that I was here. I played on Domino
Tide UH outstanding coach, and then I got I went
to Saint Catharine College Junior College, got a scholarship to
Western Kentucky, and I finished out my career at Western Kentucky.

(25:13):
Played overseas for a little bit. Didn't work for me.
I wanted to go home. I was homesick, came back
coached Central High School.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Actually I was Yellow Jackets. Oh lord, so I told
you it took it, just took a little while. Yellow
Jackets coach.

Speaker 9 (25:29):
Central for eight seasons. So my husband also coaches football
college ball. So took a break for a little bit.
And now I'm back at DuPont Mayor. One of the
greatest schools in louis Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
George last Quest second grade school inside Louisville, Kentucky. Back
way with you, greatest school next to greatest. We sent
cold from Central to Manu. Now that's why y'all doing
so good. I want to bring it up.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
But okay, it's all right. I like it. We're gonna
have you introduced to of your players. Coach.

Speaker 9 (25:59):

Speaker 2 (26:05):
How are you doing, Welcome to the sports radio. Are
you tell me a little bit something about your family?
Tell me about your parents.

Speaker 10 (26:12):
I have two parents that are married, Dana and don Bill.
I really I wanted to appreciate them for everything they've
done for me, for real sacrifice and no time, money,
and yeah, because we've been it's been basketball, basketball, basketball,
So they've been rescheduling everything, their jobs.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
And everything for me around you and getting you here
to manual High School Magnet. What program are you in HSU?

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Do you enjoy it?

Speaker 9 (26:42):
Yes, sir, Yeah, So.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Tell me about the team. What do y'all have to
do tonight to defeat Shanny?

Speaker 10 (26:51):
Just play hard, hustle, do the little things, box out, rebound,
and just hustle on the court.

Speaker 9 (26:57):
Let's talk, coach.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Listen to your coach. That's it's important, Coach Franklin. Yes,
she a problem child. Tell the truth.

Speaker 9 (27:03):
Is not a problem child. She used to be. She
used to be, but she bought in. She actually came
from not being on Varsia at all, working her way
to being our six man. She heard her knee last year,
but she worked her way back into the rotation. She
started some as well. So she's a workhorse. She she
works on her I love this kid.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Appreciate well, excellent, Well, we appreciate you coming on EVE
Sports Radio and give us a shout out to all
the young kids during your PEP rally today. Make sure

Speaker 2 (28:00):
It's time for Sacred Heart to come down this year. Well,
welcome to the show.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
I want you again tell us a little bit about
your family, Your parents, sacrifices they've made for you, young lady,
to get you to DuPont Man, your traditional school, drive
you here every day, drop you off, pick you up,
all the sacrifices.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
I want to make sure that you say something nice
about them.

Speaker 9 (28:19):
Yes, she has wonderful parents.

Speaker 11 (28:22):
Have a mom and dad, Hid and Brian Himrilely. They're
always taking me to all the places I need to
get to, always on time, and pushing me to be
better every day.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
What your mom and dad do?

Speaker 11 (28:35):
My dad's an entrepreneur, so he selles houses, and my
mom works for a company called Consolation that works with guests.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Excellent.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Now tell us about tonight's game, Shiny, big game though
Big pep Riley there's no pressure.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
No pressure easy when tonight correct should be?

Speaker 9 (28:53):
Oh but what do we need to do?

Speaker 6 (28:55):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Should be?

Speaker 9 (28:57):
Listen, make sure we're talking.

Speaker 11 (29:00):
Hustle on every play.

Speaker 9 (29:02):
Every play, no breaks, right, no break?

Speaker 2 (29:04):
What is your strength? What do you like doing the most?

Speaker 9 (29:09):
Scoring and rebellion, rebunding. Yeah, she is our rebound put
back queen. She's tough on a board. She had a
shoulder injury. H she breaks. She worries me every time
she's in a tussle with somebody with the ball, but
she plays through it. Shoulder popsy out, pop it back in.
That girl's good to go. So she's tough. She's tough.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
Tell me what magnet are you in? This is important
here at Manuel. Academics are so important. Tell me a
little bit about that.

Speaker 11 (29:34):
I think it's fun that, like we get a good
amount of work and we still can do all sports.

Speaker 9 (29:41):
After school and stuff. We have college courses too.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yeah, do you go to University of Louisville and the
correspondence not yet? Would that be your senior year?

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Exsll Well, I appreciate you. Tell I need a shout
out during your pepper out. I want you to let
everyone know seven ninety sports from seven to eight. They'll
be able to hear you. We'll load this podcast and
they'll be able to hear you, so they'll be able
to go back and listen to you. Last words, what
do you want to get out before we ended.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
With coach boy, Cat's got your tongue frightened.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
That always works, That always works, gold Manuel, is that all?

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Can we get that out of you?

Speaker 1 (30:25):
Thank you kid, appreciate you coming on EAT Sports radio.

Speaker 9 (30:29):
Coach, Yes, well your players a little shy, Coach that.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
That one is frightening up the spotlight. She's going to
be a superstar athlete. If she's frightening up the spotlight.

Speaker 9 (30:40):
I'd rather be loud on the floor and quiet in
the interview.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
Then.

Speaker 9 (30:43):
I mean, I just need you to play your game.
She's just come out of her shell a little bit.

Speaker 6 (30:46):
Yeah she is.

Speaker 9 (30:47):
She's a good girl.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
So coach, district plays right around the corner. Of course,
this is a big game in district. What do you
have to do to advance? And you said that you
were thinking about trying to take Sacred Heart out.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
Of this year.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
Yes, would love huge statement Sacred Heart. What a fantastic
program they have there and what they've done.

Speaker 9 (31:05):
Donnah's doing an amazing job over there. I just have
to let my girls know, and I tell them all
the time, it's not about you know what we hear
about this team, that team. All you have to do
is take every possession as this as if it's your
last possession. And that's what we're missing. Sometimes we try
to take breaks. We're young. We think we got the
next play to make it up when we have to

(31:27):
take her a business right there, so you know, if
we handle business and have minimum mistakes, we'll be good.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
Jared, and we always talk about the team reflecting the coach.
If her team reflects with Miss Ashley's all about. Miss
Ashley walks in with confidence that you can see it radiates.
And we talk about this all the time. If you're
a player, you supposed to walk in believing. You can
believe she has a system. The team has to father system.
And I think if they do, Miss Ashley, we do
great things. And I don't I think if there's a
coach that can take a sacred heart out, I'm looking

(31:55):
at my girl right here, ain't them but loves excellent
and tell the family, hell up.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
We appreciate you coming on getting up early, coming on
the Esports Radio and good luck tonight's game.

Speaker 9 (32:05):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
As long as you're not playing the Bruins, I want
you to win every time you play the Bruins.

Speaker 9 (32:10):
Baby to say that one. Gonna keep doing it over
and over.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
Did you did you take them out?

Speaker 7 (32:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (32:19):
Yeah we did. Oh.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
I just love this show with me, Miss Ashley. That's
why I love you more. Your family take me to break.
I can't take anymore. It's sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Get me an.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
By Jack in the Box. Two locations. There will be
eight locations by the end of the year. Make sure
Jack in the Box is hiring. Simon Scollege High School
game day. We'll talk to you in a minute. Welcome
back to the Sports Radio July fourteen, twenty twenty five,
where a DuPont Manual High School. Of course, we've got

(32:50):
coach Coleman on coach. Before we get to anything, George
Williams knows you well. But let's talk a little bit
about the story. I saw mister Randall. We don't have problem.
So I saw that on the news and WHS brought
tears to my eyes. Talk a little bit about that
young man.

Speaker 7 (33:04):
Yeah, So, first of all, just very proud of him
for the fight that he's put up dealing with what
he's dealing with many cancers, and the way that he's
done it. Most people couldn't go through it that way.
You're gonna hear a lot of complaints from most people.
Davis Randall has just been Davis Randall through the whole process.
Keeps smiling, He's still goofy, hangs out with his friends,

(33:25):
and I think that's really great for not just him
and them, but also his recovery.

Speaker 6 (33:30):
He's just taking the head on.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
He really is. George, did you see the story? Yes?
I did, Yes, I did. Fantastical George.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
You used to say, you said it all the time.
Health is wealth, Yes, people have no idea. I don't
care how much money you have. Health is wealth.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Yeah. I don't need that money.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
I need my health and the health of health and
happiness to me at the greatest thing that you can
never get in life.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Yes. And the young man he's got happiness.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
George got And you know, and I always tell people.
The one thing that I always tell people, Jared is
what your mentality, how you approach it, how you apply
your mind, and how you work it. What you're doing
some people lay down and roll over. This young man
has taken it. Not only is he doing well Jared,
he's making others feel great about David. I mean, once

(34:11):
you read that article, even if nothing was wrong with you,
it touched you. And those people who are going through
what he's going through he uplifted. So I mean, he
did so much with one article and what he's doing.
I mean, he is just a hero.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Because mom and Dad were inspirational. It is inspiration. Absolutely.

Speaker 7 (34:28):
So many people have reached out to me since those
interviews and just talked about his strength and how he
inspired them to just like whatever I go through now,
I shouldn't even be complaining anymore.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
Absolutely, And that's what stopped me complaining. I went through
therapy one time, seeing a lady I went to therapy
the first time, and she had the greatest attitude I
ever seen in any person I even know, and everybody
loved her.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Didn't see it for two weeks.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Came back after two weeks, I was, you know, I'm
complaining about my arm and what's going on? Seeing that again,
she had no legs, but she had the same great spirit,
And I asked, I said, well, how can you to
deal with it. She said, God, it blessed me and
gave me everything I want and he's still giving me thanks.
And you know, when you would look at people like that,
those are my heroes, and that young man he is
my hero.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
I can do.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Da Yes, Sir and his parents just inspirational people, don't
you know. They need to go back on WHS two
days ago and watch the sports report.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
It was just fantastic.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Now tell me about your team, coach, We've got to
get into it. You've got your son of course here. Uh,
tell you a little bit about your game tonight and
what you have to do to be Chinyeh.

Speaker 7 (35:32):
Well, we're gonna apply a little pressure on him to
shine high school. So it's a district rivalry. So between
Manual sonde Es Central, they's usually been one of the
top three teams in the district for a long time. So, uh,
we got to take her a business. But so we all,
you know, try to put a little pressure on him
take off, uh and make sure we go out there
and play its haad bit harder than one thing about Sondy.

Speaker 6 (35:50):
They always bring the imagy.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Did see coach George. I want everybody to know he's
being sarcastic. He beat our breaks off, Kyle. Last night
christ had academy. You beat him undred and six to
what eleven? After the five to sixty one? You did
not have to beat them fifty.

Speaker 7 (36:08):
Well, we're working on some things as a team, and
one of the things that we're working on is the
attitude that we approached the game with and how we
play defense. And that started after our LT loss and
ever since the LAT loss. Yes, we've changed the way
we played the way we think first as a team,
so we went away from talking about energy and effort
and we start talking about attitude and effort, right, So

(36:30):
we're approaching the game with a different type of attitude.
And then the defensive effort that the guys have been
putting on the floor since that moment, because it was
quite embarrassing, it just has changed things. So last night
was just another product of what we've been doing and
how we've been trying to grow since we took that loss.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
When we got to your players, we're going to get
them on the coach I being I'm just kidding you.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
At Ballance, we tried to put one hundred on everybody.
That's your job. Beat the brakes off. Of them. That's
your job. We use. Their job is to get better. No,
it's their job to get better.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
And Jerry, the most important thing I can say about
the coach the manual is he's a yellow jacket.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Because he's one of them up.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
He grew up on the pig farm, him the son
they had to be ball Yeah, Ballance.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
Was being nice to him.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
I didn't want to let him know ballot clip team
this year, but I didn't go there.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
You did, Yeah, I did, and they did.

Speaker 6 (37:19):
We beat him last year for the first time, but
the first time.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
I just want to let you know you.

Speaker 6 (37:26):
And we clipped y'all and we reach all lot when
I played.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
That's you donstand this.

Speaker 7 (37:36):
One time when I was my second year as ahead coach,
we were getting beat back Valley that was said your
value was loaded and they were pressing us and I
had been working on the press in practice and we
didn't handle it well. So the coach down there was
calling off the press. I yelled at him. I said,
no key press. I wish more coaches thought that way

(38:00):
A lot of times when we get these games. Coaches
not last night, but coaches will get sensitive if you
beat them a certain kind of way.

Speaker 6 (38:08):
I don't. I like to learn from it.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
Their job to get better.

Speaker 6 (38:11):
Coach, right, don't take it easy on me.

Speaker 7 (38:13):
Let me get back to the drawing ball with my
players and figure out why it happened.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
I like that coach.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
But the only thing I say, I don't like when
coaches leave their starter.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Then. Now, if you're.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Playing your bench and you're playing your role and you
beat me like a drum, I have no problem. But
when a coach takes and leader started then to build
up their stats, I don't like that. I don't like
that stuff it, you know, but if you can.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
I did, Georgia, I wanted my points. I know you.

Speaker 7 (38:36):
Dout you with soft jail, but think about one thing
with stet stuff. If I pull them out and everybody
was playing, well, let's say this gentleman behind you, Justice Deck,
only had nine points.

Speaker 6 (38:46):
Then that college coach set you overhead nine points.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, but I gotta get them on, Georgie. I gotta
get him on. Yeh okay, Decker, Yeah, we don't have time.
We gotta get.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Yes. Hey, you did introduce who we've got coming on
with this coach?

Speaker 7 (38:57):
This is uh they call him big, just call him
d one just I call him love just Justice.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
Deca nice me. How are you?

Speaker 1 (39:07):
I really appreciate your conversation about mister Randall on the news.
You carried yourself, spoke well. I was really appreciate and
proud of you, young man. Tell me tell me a
little bit about your family and with magnet you're in
here at school.

Speaker 12 (39:20):
I'm an Mst. At Manuel. It's mad science and technology.
That's mainly what the focus is on. My family. I
live with my mother. H with the games.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
My mom always made sure she comes to the games.

Speaker 12 (39:37):
My dad always comes to the games when he can,
and sometimes my cousins.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Just put your strength. What do you like to do
the best? Shoot at rebounds, play defense, drive?

Speaker 1 (39:49):
That's all that was well, well excellent. What do you
have to do to be chiny tonight?

Speaker 12 (39:54):
Just come out our energy because we know they are
so we just gotta punch first. Our energy match theirs
intensity or exceed it. Just keep keep that going for
four quarters.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
But we appreciate you coming on the sports radio. I
gotta get the coach your son on. It is to
decortate care of a great game tonight. You bring on
your son, Yes, sir, I can't even.

Speaker 6 (40:18):
Believe my pride and enjoy my baby.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Now your baby baby does he have game? Coach?

Speaker 6 (40:23):
Absolutely your DNA the sports radio.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
What magnet are you in? I'm as high school university.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
Okay, excellent, and tell me a little bit about your
game and what you gotta do tonight to win, to
take care of your day tonight.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
What you got to do. We just gotta come out
bs do what we do.

Speaker 12 (40:41):
Play our offense, be slow, uh, be patient, but aggressive,
play good defense, communicate fl will be fine.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
Can you go to the sweet sixt seed with this seae? Yes, sir?
We can coach?

Speaker 6 (40:52):
Yes, sir, we are.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
I like that without a doubt, Manual High School Coach Coleman,
We're gonna be following you from here on out.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
Great job, of course.

Speaker 1 (41:01):

and it touched me from there on. I'm a fan
of yours and your son. Best of luck. Thank y'all
for having the sports radio on and we're gonna try
