the Don Franklin call today. So the phone numbers eight
five nine two eight h two too eight seven. It's
eight five nine two eight Oh cats. Well, guys, look,
first day of summer's supposed to be the hottest day
of the year, you know, they say when it's the
first day of summer, So why not do the show outside. So,

(01:24):
ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my backyard buy my pool for.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
This edition of Kentucky's Sports Radio. Well, we appreciate the invite.
You've got quite a nice backyard. You got the hot
tub with the waterfall, you get the pool. Thanks to
CNS Pools, and thanks to you for having us out here.
Like I said, longest day of the year, so you
could be out here at you know, ten o'clock tonight
the sun will still be.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
It is another stop on our KSR Summer Business Spotlight
series where we're gonna these pop up shows throughout the summer.
CNS Pools wanted to do a show, Billy, why not
the perfect way. They designed my pool, they installed my pool.
Everything you see here because of CNS Pools. Perfect way
to show off what they do by doing the show
here in my backyard.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Absolutely, They've got discounts on services and products until the
end of June. So if you're looking to maybe get
your pool checked or to get a new pool, you
should check them out. You got the basketball hoops set up.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
You know.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
I've heard a lot about your relationship with your neighbors, Ryan,
this is my first time being out here. Has that
improved it all over the last year or so rastically improved?

Speaker 2 (02:22):
It's improved because you ran them out of the neighborhood.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
That's right, they left.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
You ran them out of time. I think when they
show that house that that's the caveat, they're like, you
realize here, this guy is a party animal. It's like
Van Wilder. It's like Project X over here. It's going
crazy every night. There's like boom, chickaboom, chickaboom, and there's
like lights flashing everywhere. It's a light show. It's like
a kiss concert every night. So you have to buy
with caution. If you buy that house or any of
these houses right well, you know you're.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Not too far off. There are lights in the pool,
you can have them light up.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
I've got my Ida cool stereo system over there thanks
to forty six Solutions. And on the poor couple that
lived right behind me, they only lasted about a year.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
I can't blow it. I gotta ask you, though, is
your entire house sponsor like the pools, the CNS pools. Yeah,
forty six solutions down here in the basement. Yeah, that's
like not sponsored out.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Well, and saw the platinum sponsors my bedroom.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
He's a walking advertisement. He's like a walking Nascar. We
do have an audience on this side. Look, there's some
kids over there watching us. They're probably wondering what are
those guys doing over there back by that pool.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I was asking you, like, are they fans of the show?
Do they realize they live next to a radio host? Well,
maybe a good time to go introduce yourself during the break.
So I got to tell you before we go any
farther here, everybody here is sitting down. Yes, we all
have a nice comfy chair, except for me, because you're
a little yapper of a dog, Marley. When I got

(03:44):
up to go to the restroom, I come back and
she is right there in my chair.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Mario, you snooze, you lose.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
She looks comfy too, should I'm put the headsetsh put
the headsets on her and see if she's got something
she wants to say. She basically runs this house, I
can tell. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. Very territorial.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
Stolen your chairs.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Only the smallest dog is the most territorial, absolutely like
like small dogs, small dog syndrome, big park. That's right. Well,
if you'd like to sit down, we could probably talk
to her and convince her to I'm afraid to touch Marley,
like she might just bite my finger on here, Marley,
I'm not like, there you go, the poor dog.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
So we'll tell you more about the CNS pools as
we go out today. Uh you know, usually we tell
we do we tell people Shanning on these pop up shows,
we don't tell you where we're going to be until
we start the show. I mean, I just told you
we're at my house. But so we can't say no
if you want to come and see the pool. Yeah,
but we're not encouraging people. But we can't say no,

(04:40):
you're not encouraging. But you're not discouraging.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
There we go. Trust me, I can tell you this. Uh,
we don't have to give the address. People can find
out where you live. I found out that Google has
a lot of information, believe it or not, and uh,
people know where I live, or at least live.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Do you get money at foreign money all the time?

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Still? I mean four years later, I am still getting
foreign money sent to me from all over the country.
And uh so it trust me. If they want to
find out where you live, don't find mind you. Yeah,
so we're not telling you exactly where I live.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
But really, seriously, if you're somebody that wants to think
about putting in a pool, no, come on by, CNS pools.
Come on by, see their work up close and personal.
I am a little jealous of your backyard. I wish
that I had this in my backyard.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
So I would say that anybody who wants the CNS
pools can hook you up.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Can hook you up. Yeah, switch with the you know
it's like a lagoon pool. You know this was we
designed it ourselves. Yeah, it's like a little goon pool
and like the planes that fly over if you look
down on it. They say, it looks like kind of
Mickey Mouse's face And do you come out, Oh is
that right?

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Right? And do you come out like the creature from
the Black Lagoot? Yes?

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Sometimes Now a hot tub with the gas furnace so
we can heat it up and like about you.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Know, fift minutes. That's cool. Yeah, I'm just curious. You
have a privacy fence, which is about what eight foot
tall or something like that? Is the problem is your
neighbor all have like two story houses and can easily
see into your sack yard. And I'm sure that when
you built this provhicy fence you had in mind, you know,
that you could go skinny dipping if you wanted to.
But I'm just wondering, like, the fact that these people

(06:12):
can see over your provhicy fence, does that stop you
at all from skinny dipping occasionally or you just kind
of go with it?

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Absolutely not and does not stop me even a little bit.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
He says that with children watching us right over there,
right over there yonder.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
You know, at nighttime it gets very dark if you
don't turn the lights on, it is pretty dark back here. Yeah,
so you can maybe get away with a thing or
two now and theom you know, sounds like somebody speaking
from experience. All right, we'll leave that aut there, all right,
So we'll tell you more about sex Pools as we
go along. But we got to start the show obviously
today with what happened yesterday with the UK baseball team.
Kind of an unfortunate ending to a fantastic, great season,

(06:49):
one that we'll remembered forever. I mean, it's the greatest
season in UK baseball history, making the College World Series
for the first time, hosting a Super Regional for the
first time, going to a Super Regional to back years
for the first time. I mean, you can never take
away what this team did. But after the first inning yesterday.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Game over, Yeah, Kentucky jumped up one to oh, looked
like they came to play, But unfortunately Nyman couldn't get
past a third of an inning and then it was
seven to one and it just kind of got worse
from there. But we talked about this on the pre show,
and you know, you guys chime in, but you know,
you want to remember the ride that got you there, right,
that's the thing that you should remember. The school record
forty six wins, and all the fun that this team

(07:30):
had and all the fun that the fans had watching
this team. So I think that's what you want to
take away, and obviously it's going to help with recruiting.
You knock down the door. You paved the way for
future Kentucky baseball teams, knowing that now getting to the
College World Series is not impossible. We've already done that,
true done it. And now you take this, you use
this as leverage for recruiting, and hopefully you're going to
see them back next year.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
You've laid down the foundation. You're exactly right. Sheane forty
six wins for this Kentucky baseball team. It really is incredible.
I got to work a lot of the games this year.
I was on the game yesterday and I told Darren
and Keith I really enjoyed their calls over these last
couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
It's been a lot of fun to jump on the bandwagon.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
I think we all knowing that we didn't know all
the players on the roster over the last couple of
years or so, but we've come to love and adopt
this team over the last couple of years. And Mario,
I know you've been out at Kentucky Pride Park a
couple times this year. The environments were incredible. They were
building bleachers so more people.

Speaker 6 (08:22):
Could definitely, definitely, Billy I would say, this is just
a benchmark of what's gonna happen. When you look five
years later and you look back, you're gonna know that this,
this whole season was just a benchmark. Ca Stars Daniel
Hager said the same thing. He said, this is just
gonna be a benchmark. We're gonna look back at this
and say, man, this was a special season. But it
was just the beginning. And I think this definitely was

(08:43):
just a beginning for Kentucky baseball.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Yesterday, you know, we had a great crowd at Kash
Bar for the watch party after they got rained out
Tuesday night. You know, had the rain early game yesterday,
but Mario was there with me. When the dude from
Florida hit the Grand Slam, is like the wind got
sucked up.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
It was quiet.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
It was very quiet.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, So so is it an unfortunate ending, But it
was a fantastic, great season. If you didn't hear Texas
A and M shut out Florida yet last night, So
it's Floyd, It's Tennessee and Texas A and M playing
the best two out of three in all SEC World
Series Final, Shannon.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Who do you got there? You think Tennessee ends up
winning this? The Texas A and M looks really really
strong though too very good. It's gonna be a good series.
I mean, I wish Kentucky were there, but I mean again,
SEC is the toughest baseball conference in the nation. There's
no doubt about it. In Kentucky. You know, for the
most part throughout the season stood toe to toe with
all those teams and that's something to be proud of.

(09:37):
Since the season's over.

Speaker 6 (09:39):
What's everybody's favorite moment from this season from Kentucky Baseball?

Speaker 2 (09:43):
What's your favorite moment? Guys?

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Wow, that's good, but I know I know mine right
off the bat with the walk off in the World Series,
McCarthy's slide into home plate. Oh yeah, scoring from second
base on a wild pitch strike three and the Pete
Rose slide into home plate. That's my lasting memory I
think of what this season, what they embody.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
That's that really is a good one.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
I think you're right though, abillity to walk off against
INC State was the call was great.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
For that to daily wins it, daily wins it.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
That was a moment I think I will look back
years from now as well. You guys already talked about
like a tone setter and laying the foundation. I think
not only to go to Omaha, but to win that game.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I think that was a big victory for the Cats.

Speaker 6 (10:24):
I think I'm just gonna miss the getting the whole
getting weird, you know ideas that they do.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
You know, the Bubblegum pink Hats.

Speaker 6 (10:31):
Favorite moment probably is when coach menji On got the
gatorade bucket got thrown on him when they won the game.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
I thought that was a pretty special moment. But that
that's for me. I gotta go with that one. But
they've definitely found their brand, this fun style of team,
team that plays aggressive, forces the defense to make errors,
you know, make mistakes. I think that's what's what makes
this seem so exciting. Billy, we won't see the Spider Man.
Uh spider Man, Yeah, we won't see that anymore on

(11:00):
in the dugout.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
Maybe that carries over, but you know, you don't want
to replicate something that you know that's so hard to replicate,
but you know this is this has been a really
exciting run. And and Nick min Jeon was coaching for
his job just two years ago. I mean remember that
it was it was really a struggle out of the
gate after the initial success in twenty seventeen. But now
to go to back to back Super regionals, to host

(11:21):
the super Regional this year, the future is bright when
you can attack the transfer portal like he has over.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
The last couple of Yet to think too, the attendance
is going to be great absolutely for carryover for next
season based off what we just saw.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Now, not only is Minjeone kind of creating a legacy
for himself a UK baseball I have to say this,
he's creating a legacy for him off the baseball field.
Because last Sunday morning in my church which is right
across the street right there, Centrepoint Christian Church, the pastor
Ethan talked about the message that Minjeon is relaying. You know,

(11:56):
after they win a big game, he drops to a
knee after he will beat in, he staying to walk off,
he dropped to a knee and in the postgame press conference,
you know, hey, only God can write this story. His
press conferences are gold they are, and his testimony I
think is really in been enduring to a lot of fans.
You know, it's it's it's it's just it's it's almost

(12:16):
refreshing to see a coach not afraid to share his testimony.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
Did you guys see when they came back from Omaha,
a whole bunch of big move nations showed up in
front of the KPP and then you know, it was
a I don't know if you guys seen the videos
and the pictures, but whole a whole bunch of Kentucky
fans showed up, they came off the bus. It was
it was like a sunset. It was just like it
was like a movie, basically a movie ending to a

(12:41):
great movie.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
I enjoyed it.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
Now there, you're right, Ryan, I mean that can be
powerful to a lot of people. And he talked about
it in his postgame yesterday. How there's a sign in
the Kentucky facility that says road to Omaha, and he
would beat on that sign every time he passed it.
And now that you've knocked over that barrier, it's it's
something that those guys will be remembered for. And you're
gonna go up on that wall, and you're gonna be
the standard for this program for years to come. So,

(13:06):
but what you're saying, I think resonates with a lot
of people.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
He really does. He talked about how it was the
best week of his life. They won the region tournament
and his son got baptized all in the same week.
And so just I think, like you said, Billy, two
years ago, he was almost dead man walking, his job
was on the line. He made the big run, and
now look where we are praising him as one of
the He was the college baseball coach of the Year
in the country.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
It's pretty impressive.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
But you touched a lot of lives. And you know,
we've all been fans of Miggo and going back to
the motivational Mondays. Yeah, I've been a big fan of
this guy since the very beginning. So couldn't be happier
for what this team has achieved this year. And I
know that's just the start of things, good things to
come for this spaces number.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Two overall seed.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
I mean, they weren't just good, they dominated and I
think we'll remember this team for a long time. Shannon, Yeah,
I want you to always be a Fountain and not
be a dream. I'm looking at a fountain right now,
sort of. Well, I guess it's a waterfall. Yeah, it's
not a drain though, Shannon. You know water ten to stop.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
You know you're guns had softened the potato.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Okay, yeah, the same water that hardens the egg softens
the potato. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
What was the others? There's gotta be other ones we've forgotten.
If you remember another coachman g on Motivational Monday, those
are the two that always stick with me.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Of those twos, wasn't there something like Thomas Edison tried
to perfect the light bulb and he filled like five
thousand times, but on the five thousand and first time
he got, he got the light bulb and he changed
the world, changed the world. I don't know. I'm sure
I'm butchering that, but I seem to have a distant memory. Okay.

(14:36):
Feedback is the breakfast of champions.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Ah nice?

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Did he say that? Yeah? I got it down here
in my notes. Feedback is the I don't know, Indians,
we'll get some awful feedback sometimes. I don't know about that.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Got some great feedback on our boy Mario yesterday from
the show, Yes Calden Yeah, I did a great job
with y'all. Appreciate y'all with the interview with Jasper Johnson
and then Tyler UIs yesterday.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
Fun.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
So, look, we got a lot of tales to talk
about the we're in my backyard. We affectionately call this area.
My son dubbed it the lemon Drop.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Don't google that on Urban Dictionary, don't, but we call
this area the limon drop. Okay, as everybody googles on
Urban Dictionary right now, all right, well take our break, Ryan, Shannon,
Billy and Mario eight five nine two eight oh two
two eight seven. That's the Clark Pumping Shop Phone Number
live pop up show here sponsored by K and S
Pools out of Nicholas, Phil We'll be right back, all right,

(15:30):
welcome back, take you sports radio live from my backyard,
the other side of my backyard thanks to CNS Pools.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Just had a guy who just walked up.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
He said he's got a pools he's looking for maybe
another pool service company. CNS Pools does that. They got
all kinds of different packages you can have. I can
have a package. They come out and they gest your chemicals,
test your water, they vacuum it, they clean it. So
it's all part of the services that they offer at
CNS Pool. So this guy and maybe he wants to
check into it.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Cory, right, Corey, Yeah, and he continues, does that been
somebody show up at every Kazar show we've ever done,
including this one.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Then you're back just put in my backyard run.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
I gotta ask you, is that who come with the pool?
Or how does that work?

Speaker 3 (16:09):
It was an additional purchase. Yeah, but seeings Pools got it.
I mean they that's I could have had a slide,
I could have had the basketball goal. We opted for
the basketball goal.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
So Ryan, are you kind of like the Michael Jordan
of this court? Back here? This is your you know, backyard?
You're pulled? You dunk on all the kids in the neighborhood. Like,
how does this work? I don't.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
I don't play too much because my son and his
friends are now seventeen eighteen years old. Yeah, and they
could push me around pretty big. No, I would say
it would probably be hard to dunk. You know, it's
hard to jump in water, yeah, right, while you're waist
deep in water, so you probably don't dunk on it
too much.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
But I do see it's kind of been down. Somebody's
been dunking all.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
They dunk on it all the time.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
We've heard the Kentucky football teams come over here maybe
once or twice.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
It's funny you said that they were almost had some
guys gonna come over and do a cannonball contest UK
football players, but Dane, but I think they have some
meetings this morning they have to go to, so they're
not gonna make it. But I was trying to work
that out. We were gonna judge a UK football cannonball contest,
as fun.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
As that would be. I'm glad to see the players
have their priorities in line. They're not gonna choose a
cannonball contest over meeting with the football staff, which is
probably what they need to focus on.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Eight five nine two eighth two two eight seven. That's
our phone number. The Clar's puppetshout phone numbers. So who
we got, Matt, Steph, go ahead, Steph, Hey guys, Hey Steff.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (17:27):
Kind of bummed about the for the Kentucky banksball team,
but they had a good season.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
They had a great season. Staff. Were you able to
watch all the games? Y?

Speaker 7 (17:39):
No, I missed I got to see you like one
or two.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Yeah, well it was pretty exciting. They they had a
great season and one we'll all remember for a long time.

Speaker 7 (17:49):
Yeah, and I and Shannon, congratulations to your Boston Celtics.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Yes, I played a big role in that championship. Yeah,
number eighteen. Mario that he's a big fan. You sul could,
by the way, congratulate Mario too. Stuff, congratulate Mario. He's
a big Celtics fan. I'm definitely not.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
Oh, but I'm starting softball. I had my first practice
rife Monday.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
So well, good luck, good luck, Steff. We appreciate the
phone call. Steph our star special Olympics athlete. Oh yeah,
said she's like Bo Jackson. She could play everything. Deon Sanders,
I'm glad you met. She mentioned the the Boston Celtics though,
because there is an Owensboro, Kentucky connection to this year's

(18:35):
Boston Celtics championship team. There's a guy named Tyler Lashbrook.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
I know him.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
You know Tyler Lashbrook.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
He went to Western.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
He went to Western.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
He was the men's basketball beat writer when I first joined,
so I kind of learned from him a little bit.
But I had saw him post pictures with the Larry
O'Brien trophy. Yes, and I didn't realize he was on
the Celtics until just the other day.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
He's like in uh, player development, player management. He's like, oh,
kind of like an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics
from Apollo High School in Owensborough and went the Western Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
So he gets a ring, he gets a ring.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
Yeah, he worked with the Sixers for a while, Yes
he did, and now he's with the Celtics, I guess.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah, with the Celtics and won a title. There's some
video of him, you know, shooting, you know, passing the
ball before you know, the games, on pregame warm ups
with Jason Tatum and so on, Jaylen Brown and so
he's he's one of those guys that helps work come out,
you know and stuff. So there's another connection for your
Boston SELFA.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, Billy was telling me that the coaching staff was
just walking through the streets of Boston with the title, right, Yeah,
the head coach was just walking around Boston.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
I mean, luckily he had a couple guys with him
just in case anybody got any ideas.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
But you know, I like seeing that you know amongst them.
I like it, but it's a little careless maybe, you know.
I mean, I guess if you have security, it's okay.
It's not as careless as we were talking about on
the pre show, Tom Brady tossing the the Lombardi Trophy
from Boast Show to Tampa Bay. Of course, you know,
it means nothing to him and the guy's got like
twenty five titles. But for the rest of the players,
they're probably well, wait a minute, now, we for Tampa,

(20:00):
we're not used to winning these things.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Not to take over the show for a second, but
did you see the money Williams news in the NBA
he was fired by the Pistons after one year. Shannon,
you'll love this. He got a twenty million buyout from
the Suns. In twenty twenty three. They signed him for
seventy eight million dollars, the biggest deal in NBA history
for a coach, and after one season they paid him
sixty five million dollars to go away. So he is

(20:23):
getting eighty five million dollars to not I love it.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
I mean, hey, sports are the greatest thing ever, right,
you get like, the worse you are, the more you
get paid. Right, like, you're you're paying me that type
of money to go away. He had fourteen wins, which
I believe the Detroit Lions also had fourteen wins. Differences,
the Pistons played like sixty four less games, and the
guy's getting paid that much money to go away. As
you say, Ryan, sports is awesome. Sports is awesome, laughing all.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
The way to the bank.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
So it's the American Dream, American inter haat tip for
Shannon the dude there for I'm sure.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Yes, all right, who's next, Matt.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Dalton? Go ahead, Dalton?

Speaker 8 (21:03):
Now you boys doing live from the women drop.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
We're live the Limon drope.

Speaker 8 (21:09):
Is this a remote where Ryan will be at his
school in his backyard and still have a shirt on?
It was very ironic.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
He does have yet still early though, we still got
a lot of show to do.

Speaker 9 (21:22):
A couple of things.

Speaker 7 (21:23):
Maybe Ryan or sorry, maybe Shannon.

Speaker 8 (21:26):
And Billy can do the cannonball contests that you can't
get any players there.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
And then I had a couple of questions from Mario. Mario,
is this your first job in sports broadcasting? Uh? Yes,
first one, first official one.

Speaker 8 (21:38):
Yep, man, you are absolutely killing it. You have a
super bright future and if this is what you want
to do, you keep on with it. Man, You're way
better than people that already.

Speaker 9 (21:48):
Have their own show.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Oh, thank you, man, I appreciate it. Those words mean
so much to me. Appreciate it, man, I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Dalton, thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
I got a lot of good feedback yesterday for our
interview with Jasper Johnson and Tyler UIs.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
I thought Jasper Johnson was awesome yesterday. Say with us.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
You know, the guy's blown up into this recruiting superstar
and Kentucky did their best on Tuesday on his unofficial
visit to Kentucky and he could tell, couldn't you Mark?
He was kind of impressed and kind of glowing a
little bit for what Ucky.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
I feel like we have a chance with Jasper john
not right now, but definitely in the future.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Because he said Mark Pope told him you're our priority. Yeah,
we were making you a priority. That means a lot
to a kid.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
When they hear the coach say, oh yeah, you want
to hear that, right if they if you walk in
and they say you're not really a priority, all right?

Speaker 6 (22:33):
Next?

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Cool? Right, he's got somebody like that. You got a
ton of people, a ton of coaches that are recruiting you.
Obviously Kentucky would love to have them on the staff,
so hopefully it works out. All right, Well, take our break,
come back, go back to the phone lines. Eight five
nine two two two eighty seven. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
TJ Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them
pay Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

(22:56):
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
Welcome back, Ryan Shannon, Bill Mario Here pool side in
my backyard thanks to CNS Pools our KSR Summer business
pop up tour.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Corey stopped by. We were talking to him.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
He asked him questions about the services and things we
get from CNS Pools. Like I said, I use them.
I partnered with them for my pool deck, partnered with
them from the landscaping, so they can help you beautiful life,
design it from start to finish. Yeah, So what's really nice?
Eight five nine two eight oh two two eight seven.
That's the Clarks Puppy shob phone number. But I want
to ask before we get to the line, I want
to ask you guys something. John Caliperi went on a

(23:29):
couple of shows yesterday. I know he was on the
Dan Patrick show. Maybe he was at the Jim Rome show. Also,
he was on two shows yesterday and he said something like, hey, man,
I had fifteen years there. Let Mark Pope have fifteen
years there and let me finish how I want to finish.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
That's the first thing he said.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
I want you guys to comment on probably five years
too long, and I think he would acknowledge that. I
think he said that when he took over the head
coaching position at Kentucky. He said, you know, this has
got about a ten year life span on it. And
I think he wrote is that he probably should have
made the move five years ago when things were still good. Yeah,
in the last few years, you know, have not been
up to Kentucky standards at all, you know, to be

(24:10):
quite honest. So probably probably the best thing that he
could have done at this point. And I think everybody's
happy he's repeating himself.

Speaker 5 (24:16):
I feel like he's saying the exact same thing that
we've already heard him say about his feelings for the
Kentucky and Arkansas and I'm sure the Arkansas fan base
will get tired of those same sayings, just like we
did over.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
All these years.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
But you know, he repeated the story about his two
hour walk. You know, his first hour he thought about
being the Kentucky coach. In the second he thought about
being Arkansas. If that what it takes to move on
from the best basketball program of all time, then best
of luck, cal But I think both parties are excited
about the direction.

Speaker 6 (24:45):
Of where they're going right now. Does Kyle give you,
guys salesman vibes? Oh yeah, kind of like the salesman.
Oh yeah, he kind of gives me salesman's vibes.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Oh yeah, you're you're not far. Oh that's why he's
such a good recruiter.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Right there.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
You got to sell the program, sell hotel Cali Perry.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Could you imagine the conversations though we would be having.
I mean, luckily the baseball team making their run that
they have is sort of, you know, taking the spotlight
off of everything else. But could you imagine, like us
talking about another year with John Calipari as the coach
at Kentucky after what just happened in March.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
To be honest, it would have been awful, been depressing
to an awful summer.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
If we had it would have been people saying it
would have been people saying what you just said to
make to change. Do I think Kyle knew that too,
He admitted it. That is actually Tom for change. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Now the other thing he said, I want you guys
to comment on, Cayle said the opportunity to hire his
son played a big part, and he hopes both sides
benefit from a fresh start. So him saying that leads
me to believe that he wasn't going to be allowed
to hire his son at UK even after coach Welsh left.
Remember they he left before Cal even made this move
to Arkansas. Do you think there was a decision made

(25:56):
by Mitch barn or something like, no, you can't hire Brad.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
You think so.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
He's trying to say that this is one of the
main reasons that he left Kentucky is because.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
His son and coach with Brad.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
I don't know if I buy that again, Like do
we buy like anything that Cal says? I mean, really,
he's so full of coach speak. He says things all
the time that you know you can't believe. So I
don't know if that was the deciding factor in leaving Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
Yeah, I think he just kind of went off on
a tangent there a little bit and talked about the
opportunity of hiring his son. I don't know if it
was not available to him to hire him at Kentucky,
but the jokes would have been a lot more if
they would have. Oh yeah, right, I mean it would
feel like it'd be a wasted spot on the staff
if you were just going to promote Brad like that.
But going to a new school, new chances, maybe you

(26:42):
have a different feeling about it.

Speaker 3 (26:43):
I'm just guessing if he'd have stayed, and if he'd
hired Brad to feel John Welch's spot, a lot of
our fan base's head would have exploded.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Well, Riley Welch was doing the game planning before his
dad had to come in.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
Remember that.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Yeah, and that's still an undersold thing that storied all this.
That Welch left before Caliperi left for Arkansas.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
Did you catch you saying that Chin Coleman was doing
a lot of watching film.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
I almost laughed.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
He said, I have to start thinking, Wait a minute, now,
that's exactly the opposite of what we've heard all this
time about watching game.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Film got some people squeezing through my fence. Oh I
was supposed to go to the other side. That's okay,
that's all right.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
You got an extra entryway you didn't know about. There
you go.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Well, I got to sign on the front door with
an arrow pointing to the other way. Oh all right,
let's take if it's like a call real quick, Matt.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
Who we got?

Speaker 7 (27:34):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (27:34):
God? Oh the dogs? Are we still on the ass? Hello?

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Bill? Okay, go ahead, Bill.

Speaker 10 (27:44):
Hey, guys, how you doing?

Speaker 2 (27:45):
How you doing?

Speaker 7 (27:46):
Bill?

Speaker 10 (27:48):
Hanging in there. I want to commend you guys on
a couple of things. Number One, I thought with mac
gun you guys might have trouble still in the space,
but you guys are actually more entertaining without Matt and
when you would on the air.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
So kudos for that and your dad build Paul Shannon.

Speaker 10 (28:07):
The other thing is a couple other things. I watched
that Calipery Cliff yesterday and every time he's said, I mean,
I don't know how many times I rolled my eyes
during that while he was while he was making those comments,
because it's just so I mean, it's it's just like

(28:29):
the salesman strode out there exactly what it felt like,
and you know, so I can't wait for this year.
I've been plugged in more for this year because of
you guys being on You know, I discovered you guys
shortly if they're as cold was leaving and so I
started listening. I actually lived in Columbus, Ohio, I usually

(28:50):
I grew up in Lodlow, Kentucky, and I've been a
cat stand since probably the mid seventies, and so the
most energized and the most plugged in I've ever been
before basketball season in my entire life. I am like,
I can't get enough of this information to you guys
that you guys give that I pick up on kasar website,

(29:13):
the different things. Even made a trip to Louisville, came
in Kassar Barn because I wanted to see what it
was like and really enjoyed myself. The other thing, two
days ago, you guys were talking about the shot clock
and about how Dean Smith basically used it to once
North Carolina got the lead, they drained the clock and
basically just took the life out of the YEP and

(29:36):
it was so frustrating to watch. But do you know,
I think Kentucky was involved in one of the games
that really got rid of the shock clock. This was
back in This was in December of nineteen eighty three.
A buddy of mine went to this game. It was
it that at the time, it was called Riverfolk Coliseum
in Cincinnati. They were playing UC yep. And you see
won the tip, I think, or maybe Kentucky won the tip,

(29:59):
went down and score and then you see basically held
the ball the entire game.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
Yep.

Speaker 10 (30:04):
The final score of the game. The final score of
the game was twenty four to eleven. And this is
now eighty three.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Sounds like a basketball appreciated Bill, Bill, thanks for the
phone call.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
We got to move on. Appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
But he's right, that game kind of put the idea
for a shot clock on the fast track, so we
could think Kentucky basketball. All of it is the shot clock, see,
just paving the way for everything. But we also have
to mention, uh, when those two people just came in,
the dogs nearly knocked us off the ear. We got
to have a plan for the next time that somebody
shows up here, because one dog literally jumped over the

(30:37):
table which is holding the equipment, and nearly that could
have been a catastrophe there.

Speaker 5 (30:41):
And not to mention that Ryan has had the dog
in his lap for most of the show. I mean,
can we get Matt Jones to do a show.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
With a dog in his love? Could you imagine an
hour here?

Speaker 3 (30:50):
Oh, this would not go well with my dogs running
around for people coming in and out. No, so uh
eight two two eight seven. That's our phone if you
want to call it on the board. And now we
got another phone, John, go ahead, John.

Speaker 9 (31:03):
Hey, guys, I like a whole lot of what the
last guy just said. Also, you know Caler Perry is
you know, just he's just blowing smoke to the national media.
You know, it's something he's always done. I always will
do whatever it is he is. You know, I'm not
a Caliberry fan. All the guys that said, well, I'm
a chair for him. I hope he does well and

(31:25):
ends well. Well, you know, the way he talked down
to the fan base and all of that ties me crazy.
But the truth is, the Big Blue Nations is the
reason he he left the fan base. I mean, that
is the bottom line. That's the truth. He should say it,
and uh uh and we should get credit, Uh give credit,

(31:49):
we're credits to I guess all right, guys, y'all have
a good one.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
I appreciate it, all right, appreciate it, thank you very much.
I we we we.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
We've talked for years about the cow speak and what
he says, and right now he's trying.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
To sell he's a he's a really good speaker.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
He's good.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Philly said, that's what makes him a good recruiter. He
can go into your living room, charm the family, charm
the player. Did he come and play for him?

Speaker 2 (32:15):
But I think that Kentucky fans just got cal fatigue, right,
Like we've heard that stuff for fifteen years. It's not working, man,
you gotta try something else, and all the things that
he would say, Yeah, it was nice when you were winning,
but then you start losing. You know, Myron talked about that,
how much of a recluse he became. Yes, you know,
you couldn't reach out to him, you couldn't talk to
him anymore. He's kind of stopped talking to the fan base.

(32:37):
And that was just one of many reasons this whole
thing snowballed into what it became. And then look at
the difference with Pope.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
I mean not just the nostalgia factor, but just the
whole emphasis on it being the importance of being at Kentucky,
you know what I mean, And for so many years
it was the NBA Draft was our most important day
in Kentucky basketball history. And he'll never live that down.
Never did, did he? And Mark Pope comes in in
here and he says, these guys are gonna understand what
it means to wear the blue and white. I did

(33:04):
wear the blue and white, and here's a picture of
me with the National Championship trophy. So I think we
were definitely ready for that change. But the fact that
this was one of our own I think it just
helped with the transition.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
And we dimentioned Jasper Johnson his visit with Mark Pope yesterday,
the fact that Mark Pope went to what Jasper playing Argentina. Man,
he's the only coach that's recruiting Jasper that was down
in Argentina and went to watch him play.

Speaker 5 (33:30):
Had to drive a stick shift too, right, I saw
that Poto had to drive a stick shift.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
Well, Matt talked about that.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
A lot of foreign cars they're all stick shift, they're
not automatics there so, but you could tell that kind
of resonated with Jasper yesterday, couldn't you.

Speaker 6 (33:41):
Yes, definitely, man, Mark Pope going that far for recruit
it shows how much he actually cares. He wants it,
he wants it, he understands the assignment. He always says,
that's what he said, you guess.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
I just wanted to tell you. You know, it's so
sunny out here. I wish I had my Shady Rais
with I forgot them. I meant, and the middle of
this move. My life is in boxes right now. Yeah,
I got stuff and boxes in a garage right now,
and I don't have all my stuff. I really could
use some shady You have some extra Shady rais A
pair of Shady Rays on that table right over there,
right now. I'm going to go get those Shady Rays
in just a minute. As soon as I tell you
about Shady Rays, I want everybody to stop overpaying for sunglasses.

(34:15):

lose or break them, or you never even wear them
because you don't want them to get dirty meat. Shady

Speaker 4 (34:50):
Eight five nine two eight oh two, two eighty seven.
That's our phone number.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
We'll take our break, come back, get some phone calls
and tell you about a controversy among the boy scouts.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
Oh oh, get your take on that, and we come back.
Kon Kentucky's Portrade.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
All right, welcome back, Ryan, Billy, Shannon Mario here at
my house CNS Pool sponsoring the KSR Summer business.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
Pop up to her.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
I like, what's happening here? It's filling up.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
It's slowly three four, five six people.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Now her backyard is slowly being invaded by the listeners
pool party.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
And look she's sitting on the edge of the pool,
got her feet in the pool. I we'll just enjoy
the pool while you're here.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
I'm wondering how your neighbors like this, Like is there
ample parking space out there? Because I feel like, you know,
at this point, the cul de sacs about to get full.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Yeah, we had a Channel eighteen get together here last
Saturday and they were about thirty people here, and I
don't think my neighbors were too happy with parking situation.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
More importantly, what about your hoa. I'm sure you got
an hoa here. Yeah, and it's she's she's she's a
tough one. Does she count cars? Well, she counts.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
If you don't have your dumpster up by midnight tonight,
you're gonna get written up the next day.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Really, Oh you're hurt? Oh wow? Yes? Yeah, so you
have somebody that actually walks around trolls the neighborhood, yes, man, Yeah,
you have to get permissioned on fence and everything. I
had something like that where I was, but it wasn't
that extreme where you had people patrolling. But luckily I
moved to a location to where there's no h I
hate Joe. I mean, it's good to like stop people

(36:14):
from parking in their front yard, but hoa fees unless
you got like a community pool or something you're kind
of getting jobbed.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Sure, they say you're paying it for common maintenance. I
mean you're paying for the get of a couple of
patches of grass all summer.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Basically, Oh, that's what I'm paying all that money for.
Really nice.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
A vision Glass text machine got a good one five
o two seven three, five three six eight zero. That's
the A vision Glass text machine numbers. So this will
be our Don Franklin call today. No, So it's the
Kentucky branded, Kentucky branded text of the day. There you go,
Kentucky Branded carried all the license UK Baseball paraphernalia, hats, shirts.

(36:53):
They've got an order online a Kentucky branded dot com
or you can go in the store and got it.
Tubby Smith said the same thing. Why he left because
he couldn't hire Saul. There are nepotism laws in Kentucky.
And I think that's right. I think that did play
into Tubby and Saw, and they played into Calum Brad.
He wanted to coach with his son and he couldn't
do it here at Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
I think maybe that was one factor of many. I
think going nine and sixteen one year, losing to Saint
Peter's losing to Oakland had a lot more to do
with it, though than not being able to hire John Caliperry.
You're telling me, if Cal had like the type of
seasons that he had in the early part of this
Kentucky career, that he would leave because Brad cali Perry

(37:31):
couldn't coach he at Kentucky. I don't buy that more
than that, I definitely agree with Shannon.

Speaker 5 (37:36):
But now we're seeing this with Lebron in the NBA
Draft BRONI now we got Cal saying he's leaving Kentucky
so he could hire his son, Like Ryan, you're the
one with kids, I mean, is it that important to
you to do something with your son like that? Like
would you see can you understand where they're coming from?
When Lebron is holding teams hostage to tell them to
draft his son.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
Ryan Limit is the head coach for Kentucky basketball, but
they won't let Josiah be the assistant coach. Are you
going to Arkansas? Are you going to Fayetteville, Arkansas? Over that?
And living above a tin roof?

Speaker 3 (38:07):
You know, I'm gonna use the line that Al McGuire
said when al McGuire was coaching Marquette, and he was
playing his son at point guard, and when he probably
shouldn't have been.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
He said, yeah, but I love my son. Okay, I
love money.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
I love I'm making I'm making good money in Arkansas, coach.
Was what I'm saying is, I can see Cal's point,
and I can see Tubby's point. If they want to
coach with their son before they retire, I can get it.
And if there are laws in Kentucky that won't let
you do it, I kind of understand it.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
He already did it.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
He was a grad assist.

Speaker 4 (38:36):
He was a grad assistant.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
Yes, yeah, So again I don't buy what Cal is saying.
Shocker well, that.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Goes along with this from the Avision Glass text machine.
Cal lies he illegally talked to Arkansas and got caughcked.
He had no other avenue but to leave. That's what
I believe. That's what this the texter said could have been.
Then it's a breach of contract. That's right, because he apparently,
you know out when they actually did start their conversation
was before he notified Mitch Barnhart about it.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Like, I don't think that Cal long term, like a
long time ago thought you know where I want to
go one day, Fayetteville, Arkansas. I just think that he
was looking for a way out. This was a good
way to do that. You know, he met with the
Chicken people. They offered him all this money, and it
just seemed like an easy way out, and I think
that he took it because of that.

Speaker 5 (39:22):
I thought a big part of it though, it's the
Chicken guy offering all this money that they could uce
for name, image and likeness and using for recruiting. But
it was the opposite of what Cal was saying at Kentucky, right.
He was here and saying, Oh, Kentucky doesn't need this money.
You come to Kentucky because you want to go to
the NBA, not because of the money. And then he
just completely flipped on that.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
So I thought that was definitely a big part of it.

Speaker 4 (39:43):
Another texter on the text machine.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
If nepotism rules were in effect in Kentucky, then how
did Mark Stoops hire his brother?

Speaker 4 (39:49):
Mike just curious.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
I mean, look, we're not lawyers here, so I don't
know a lawyer is yeah, I cannot break down the law.
The only lawyer I know that's in Kentucky that I
associate with is TJ and he makes people pay. So
I don't know that he knows the NELI I'm sure
he does know the nepletism law, but I don't. I
can't explain it.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Did you see Matt's Instagram yesterday? He was at a
Sweden soccer match and it was like going crazy. It
looked insane. Was it Sweden or Scotland? Scotland in Scotland
it was Scotland.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yes, thank you that other s country. Yeah, well they
were going crazy. I saw from the pictures.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
It was amazing.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Yeah, he said, next to a UK event, this is
the best sporting environment I've ever been in besides besides Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
I hate to say it, but like other countries just
have they just do it better. When it comes to
live brother live concerts, the fans are better. They're just
more into everything, you know. I gotta watch all these
bands that go and they'll you know, go down to South.
They're going on like Argentina and their crowds are packed
and they're all jumping up and down and they're all chanting,
and I'm like, man, we we just don't do that
in America. I don't know, We're just jade it spoiled

(40:51):
what it is. But other fans I feel like, just
do it better than we do in America.

Speaker 5 (40:55):
I think we do to a degree with our national teams,
right like when Slovakia only plays three games every four years,
I feel like they're ready to go. But we have
so many sports and it's not at a national level.
I think the enthusiasm is a little dampened.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
I don't know if you guys can't tell, but I'm
getting baked in the sun right now. You can slide
over here in the shade. Yeah, the shade is right.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
It's getting smaller, and we have plenty of sunscreen for you,
young Mario to protect your beautiful skin.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
I don't think that'll work on me.

Speaker 4 (41:27):
All right, we'll take our break. Come back Todd County.
You're on the clock.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
We're gonna talk about Todd County and our countdown in
the counties seeing S Pools. Thank you for having us
out here today in my backyard for a KSR summer
pop up tour. And to shout out to Stephanie Cox
who's been with CNS Pools for twenty five years. How
about that he appreciated. So if you got your wandering
around the street trying to find my house.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Just pull over and listen.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
We're in the backyard. We'll be right back. This is
