Speaker 3 (00:59):
Myra Mecca back in the building, Glad to be back
on another edition of Mary Monday's on Kentucky Sports radio.
This is my time. Like I'm watching shot put trials
at eleven am, you know, on Peacock right, And I
want to give a shout out to a couple of
folks from your area. Alexis Holmes ran at Kentucky. She's

(01:22):
now going to the Olympics in the fourget meter dash.
Took third on her way to Paris or kudos to her.
But my favorite track and field athlete, one of my
favorite of all time, is getting ready to run here
later this week, and that's Sidney McLoughlin Lavron. I think
that's her full name now, but aran in Kentucky. I

(01:44):
don't know if people understand what Sidney McLoughlin Lavron has
done and what she could do in the world of
a track She is the first off. She made the
Olympics as a teenager. Eight years ago. She was in
the Olympics. Uh literally, she won like the state championships

(02:04):
I think in California, and then she was in the
Olympic trials. She is the world record holder in the
four hundred meter hurdles. I ran track in college in
high school. Anybody who knows about the four hundred meter
hurdles knows that is the most difficult race to run,
Like anyone will tell you that in track, like there
is nothing harder. My buddy Ray ran it in high school,

(02:27):
right and the third to last hurdle you could see
him hitting the wall. You may look like somebody had
like was pulling him back and he was barely getting
over the hurdle. The second to last hurdle, he just
didn't have anything left. He trips over the hurdle and
then the hurdle like pinned him to the ground like

(02:50):
he could and he couldn't get up. And we are
in the corner diet because it looks like he is
fighting with this hurdle, but he has no energy, so
he like he can't get up. That's what that race
does to you. So to watch Sidney McLaughlin larone do
that at that level. The fastest woman in the history

(03:10):
of the world at four hundred meter and the forgitre
meter hurdles pretty amazing. But that's not it. She just
messed around this year with the two hundred meter dash
and the fournid meter dash, just like, hey, let's see
if I can do it. She ran the four hundred
earlier this month, and she ran the third fastest four

(03:31):
hundred meter race in the history of the United States.
Just messing around, right, She ran the two hundred earlier
this year. Again, just hey, let me see what I
can do. She has the second fastest time in the
two hundred meters in the world. Wow. Now she is
not going to do those races. She's gonna focus on

(03:51):
the Fournit meter hurdles. But this is this would be
like a basketball player being the best player the paint,
the best big you know in the NBA at also
the best three point shooter and also a point guard
like you. Just at this level, you cannot run at

(04:11):
world class speeds in multiple events, and Sydney has managed
to do that. All I'm saying is we are literally
watching one of the greatest athletes in the history of mankind.
And that is not an exaggeration. What Sidney McLoughlin learn
is capable of doing is unlike anything we've ever seen
in the history of track and field. And that will

(04:33):
continue in Paris, fellas, and I can't wait to see
what she does in this Olympics.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Yeah, it's hard to kind of even fathom that she
actually ran here for Kentucky one year when she has
now become the face of team USA track and Field
men women. She is the face of the of the
of the team and it's it's like you said, every
time she steps on the track, she's breaking another record.
She like in any event. I think, did she like

(05:00):
run in the four by four hundred relay? And yeah,
she does everything and she's good at it. So we're
even though she was here for one year, we were
very proud of her.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
That was fun.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
She was on campus at a time when the basketball
team was not necessarily at its peak, but still a
really good time for the basketball with a lot of
star power on that team. Football was doing well with
a lot of celebrities. But it's always fun to be like,
but they're none of those guys. They're not the most
famous person on campus right now. Sydney over there track
and field, she is world famous and is something that

(05:32):
just being a UK athlete is hard to even get
close to that stratosphere she's in internationally.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I mean, can you imagine being the best at something
in the history of a sport, like the greatest ever?
And like, you know, we obviously have those conversations about
basketball and football and like nobody wins because you know,
if you think Michael Jordan's better, Lebron whatever, but like
this is documented, Like there is no one who could

(05:58):
ever say that they are greater than that her because
of the time that she's run and I mean she
goes back out this year. She had just been dabbling
in other events and she's like, all right, the four
hundred meter hurdle, that's my race, let me run it again.
Let me get back to doing that. And the first
time she goes out, she's the fastest in the world.

(06:18):
It's just I would actually hate to be her competitor
because I'd be like, how are you this good? You
know what I mean, Like, how are you so excellent
at this level? It'd be frustrating a little bit, I
think running next to her.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
Yeah, while we're shouting out Sidney, we had another former
cat qualified for Paris last night. Alexis Holmes will be
in the four hundred meter from Kentucky. So yeah, I'm sorry,
sorry said that jest. We have two more today, two
more trials was a day three, day four. Maybe we
might have a couple more cats qualified today. But to
UK Track and Field, Sydney is the big name. But
they've had a couple of Olympians four years ago and

(06:53):
expect to have more of this time around.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
It's an incredible program. I mean again, I'm a big
track and field fan, Like the see is a different thing,
you know, just in terms of track and field. It's
always funny to me, Right, you see someone on the
football field and you're like, my goodness, that's the fastest
person I've ever seen. You see him running down and
like we can count, you know, the fastest player we've

(07:16):
ever seen on the football field. You put them on
a track with these track people, it is a whole
different thing. I mean, it's just amazing that the human
body can move at that speed at that level. And
Sydney literally is the greatest of all time?

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Uh in the men's was it? Noah Llows? Yeah, I'm not.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
I don't watch it as closely as you, but I
know enough to know how good he is. But just
how special is he Historically it's not a Kentucky connection,
but he seems to be pretty elite as well.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Yeah, he's intense. So yesterday in the final, like so
they're they're they're spicing it up. So now they're doing intros,
so now like they're introducing them like it's you know,
Survivor series or something like that. So everyone comes out
one by one. There's a lot of pageantry. It's kind
of cool. So in the in the semifinals, Noah Allows

(08:11):
pulls out a Pokemon card. I don't know about Pokemon, right,
but apparently it was like some rare Pokemon card and
he ran with it, like he just put it in
his uniform and he ran so everybody, I guess in
the Pokemon world everyone was going crazy about that because
he like showed it to the camera and then someone

(08:31):
interviewed him about it. This is my problem with like
anime people, Pokemon people. Like someone interviewed him. He was like,
hey man, what's the significance of the card? And he's like, well,
if you know, you know, No, I don't know, so
why don't you tell me what it is? You know
what I mean? Like Animen Pokemon people expect you to
know everything, and I'm like, no, help me understand. But
he pulled it out. Everyone got excited yesterday they announced

(08:54):
him and he comes out, and you know, whenever I
would run, I'd like jump, you know, get ready to stretch,
get in the blocks. You know. He like runs fifty
meters and it's like amping up the crowd, and it
was a little intense, like it was a little like
too much, you know what I mean. But then he wins,
and now he's going to represent the United States. He's

(09:17):
won the world championship at the hundred, two hundred and
the four by one. He could do it again in Paris.
I just wonder what he has next. I mean, this
is the same guy. If you remember a couple of
years ago at the twenty twenty Olympics, which actually happened
in twenty twenty one, he said, we're the only people
that can say we're world champions. The basketball players can't

(09:37):
say that, like they're not doing this the way that
we're doing it. How can you say you win an
NBA title and you're the world champion when you don't
play every team in the world. And that created a
big firestorm in the sports world because they're like, how
can you say that? He was right, of course, but
a lot of people know him from that that moment.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
That also saw when he called for Paris on one
hundred meter his mom was just sitting with Snoop Dogg
in the crowd, and Snoop Dogg's chatting for him. So
I want all Snoop Dogg in my Olympics coverage. Every
sport put Snoop Dogg in there.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Who was giving Snoop Dogg a private plan? Because how
was he everywhere? I've seen him at soccer games, I've
seen him at track and field events. He's been with
the Milwaukee Brewers where I'm from, like he like spent
a day with them. Snoop Dogg is everywhere. Matt and
no I always have this conversation of, like, who are
the most recognizable people in this country? Meaning like you

(10:35):
could walk down the street. A lot of these athletes
that people think are recognizable, they're not in terms of
like anybody would know who they are, right. But I
think there's probably a handful of people we will put
Dolly Parton on the list that I think everybody would
know her. I mean today, I think you'd have to
say Taylor Swift and Beyonce. I mean at some level,

(10:56):
like I think most people would know them. Snoop Dogg,
I think is on that list. Like it feels like
Snoop is just everywhere and everybody knows him, and it
feels like his job is just to go places and
be Snoop don And it feels kind of cool right
that he has that, that he has that role. I
don't even know if Snoop tells people he's coming at

(11:18):
this point, Like I think Snoop just shows up to
events and then they're like, oh my goodness, Snoop is here,
we gotta get him involved, right, It feels that way.

Speaker 5 (11:27):
He's taking the soul plane everywhere around. That's what yes,
dude qualifies And they cut to his mom and she's celebrating,
and it's just like, is that Snoop Dogg sitting by
his mom?

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Crazy? It's it's amazing, Like that feels that feels like
just his job, Like he's just a Snoop Like is
there a salary attached to that? Like what's the what
comes with that? I don't know, but I just think
he just is really enjoying life, you know what I mean.
I saw him. They actually put him. I think he

(11:56):
ran a two hundred meter dash and it was like
thirty three seconds or something, but it was you know,
he's still so skinny, you know, he still can't put
any weight on that frame. And that was funny to
watch Snoop Dogg like run around the track, but man
like it feels like no matter what who you're trying
to like promote what you're trying to promote. In those meetings,

(12:18):
Snoop Dogg is always mentioned as someone that they want
to get involved, like it doesn't matter, like can we
get Snoop. I think Matt went to some Willie Nelson
concert last year some two days and Snoop was there,
you know, and just like holding cord and everybody loved him,
Like how many people can, Like he's one of the
few people that legitimately could go anywhere and he'd be

(12:41):
universally accepted, you know what I mean, Which is interesting
because thirty years ago, I'm like that same dude. Yeah,
murder was the case guy. Like, it's amazing that he's
become like this sort of family friendly guy. Consider it
kind of where he started.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
He didn't really have a very common interest. Think they
share a passion for something.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Well well, I mean Snoop has said that passion is
actually even too much for him. He basically said, Willie
is in a different league compared to the league that
he is. It, so it's been amazing to kind of
watch him. The NBA draft is this week. You've got
obviously Reaed Shepherd. I think it will be a top
three pick. Potentially Rob Dillingham should be a top ten pick.

(13:27):
And then you got to me. My biggest thing is
D'Antonio Reeves conversation. Right, Like, we're talking about Bronnie James
getting drafted, you know, and my guess is the Lakers
will pick him in the second round because they want to,
you know, make Lebron happy on some of them. I
get it, like you can't do a whole lot about
that level of sort of nepotism. If someone has a

(13:49):
business or a law firm or a restaurant, I mean
you get to hire your kids, you know. I don't
know what you do about that. It becomes a problem
when that person isn't qualified. I've done Brian and James
game since he was in high school. He doesn't have
an NBA skill, right, There's nothing that I see that
translates to the NBA. And he's six to one. That's

(14:11):
the other thing people are leaving out. He's six foot
one and Tonio Reeves is a guy who has been
grinding his entire career to get to this moment. One
of the three best three point shooters in America. Now,
that's amazing that Kentucky had the top three three point
shooters in the entire country and Tonio Reeves is one
of them made forty seven percent of his threes. You

(14:33):
tell me that guy can't help an NBA roster a
season that six ' four played at the highest level,
was a great player in the best league in the country,
and he can shoot. Like, why is that guy not
in conversations? But Briannie James has to be a pick
somewhere in the second round. I don't get it. Hey,

(14:54):
you're preaching to the choir here. We don't understand that.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
I mean, NBA gentle manners act like Mayron he's old
and he's twenty three years old, Like he's too old. Like,
come on, man, he'll be he'll be a guy. You wait,
he'll he'll go down to the G League and he'll
average twenty five twenty eight points a game and then
finally get his shot. But I think, like teams just
can't buy in on what he could, how he can
help them.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
Right now, I think he's gonna get picked. Somebody would
be crazy to not take that guy. He shot fifty
percent from the field forty percent from three missed. The
free throw at the end of the year would have
done that fifty to forty ninety club he shot like
eighty eight percent from free throws. He's the leading scorer
in Kentucky in the John Caliperri era. Per game, he
passed Jamal Murray at like twenty point two something points.

(15:36):
I believe per game. A guy that can fill it
up like that, and it's not just three point shooting.
He can do it at every level on the court.
A team will find a way to put him out
there to get buckets.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah, and then the dude that you can trust, you know.
The age thing to me is that's a mature guy
coming in who who maybe isn't going to be like
the nineteen year old you might pick, you know, Who's
gotta be able to be a leader, be mature in
the locker room, handle himself. I just it bothers me
that a guy like that can work his way to
this level. And here's my other thing, right, and I'm

(16:09):
not just saying this because I'm on KSR. I mean,
Matt and I talk about this. The history of Kentucky players,
no matter what anyone thinks those guys get to the
league and they stay in the league Like that is
something that a lot of schools can't say. There are
a lot of schools who sent a bunch of NBA
draft picks, not at Kentucky's level, but there are a
lot of schools in the last twenty years who sent
a ton of guys to the NBA. Tell me how

(16:31):
many of those guys got a second contract? Like that
to me is the difference. Playing at this level helps
you prepare for playing at that level. He's been going
against NBA guys, He's been in practice with two lottery picks,
two guys who are going to be top ten picks
in this draft, and he was the leading scorer in
that group. That has to con for something, because if

(16:54):
it doesn't count for something, then what are we doing?
Like what is the draft process in a week draft
like this where it's not great draft? If an Antonio
Reeves can't get recognition but Brianna James can get it
and he didn't even average five points.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
Again, yeah, Reeves is almost constous all American. I think
one of them left him off, maybe the AP. It's
a guy that has proven can go out and get
you basket. Sure he's a little older than these prospects.
Sure his defense a little limited there, But there'll be
a veteran team that can contend now and they just
need a guy that can knock down shots and score
baskets occasionally off the bench. And I think you would
be crazy to pass him up for some project that

(17:28):
you may never see the NBA long term.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Yeah, I'll tell you what. If he goes undrafted, it's
just not right at the end of the day, it's
just wrong if that happens. We'll be if Justin.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Edward to gets drafted and Antonio Reeves does not.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
Yeah, we're kind of looking at each of the two
Kentucky guys in the second round. You have Edwards who
didn't really prove much, but the youth, the potential, versus
Reeves the opposite.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
He's got to get drafted. We'll be back up to this. Yeah. Oh,
Prince a legend, the legend him self. I was at
his house and then he's got the stage man and
I'm at an event. This is all corporate. We're all
in suits and we're all buttoned up. You know. It's

(18:11):
one of those events, right, Prince gets on stage all
of us ran and screamed to rush to the front.
It was like, just you lose yourself when you see
someone like that and you're in the presence of the
Great Prince. I think, Ryan, you got a live read
for us.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Yes, but I'm hanging on pins and needles because I
love Prince. This purple range came out and I was
in high school, so I'd love to hear all your
stories about it. But yeah, first of all our friends
is Doctor Mortgage are your go to for your home
loan needs with seventy five branches and locations in Kentucky
and beyond, and Myron would say they're even in Yeah,
their license in twenty eight states, and as always they're growing.

(18:53):
Doctor Mortgage has literally hundreds of home loan Expert tray
to help the the number one rural housing lender in
the state and help people become homeowners every day. Doctor
Mortgan find out more by going to Stockton dot com
MNLS eight two five nine Equal Housing Linder.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
I'll tell a quick print story. This a little crazy
story that happen. So I was at his house again.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
He keeps saying that Humble bragg I was at Prince's.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
No, so you go in his house. You go to
his house and he's got secret service looking dudes outside.
Everybody's in black suits, earpieces, the whole deal. Right, you
can't take your cell phones in, so they take your phones,
you know, Like he's that kind of a person. There
was a there was a woman at the front who
is selling legitimately only three items. You can get a

(19:39):
bottle of water. You can get red beans and rice,
and you can get gluten free brownies. I kid you not,
And it's not. And it's like it's not like, you know,
an official menu that someone typed out, you know what
I mean. It's like somebody wrote down five dollars brownies,
you know what I mean, three dollars red beans and rice,
two dollars bottle water, only cash. Right, this is before

(20:02):
you actually get into the into the venue. Then you
walk into the venue, it's this gigantic setup he has. Again,
there's like a concert hall in his house, and next
to it is like this random room where he just
likes kung fu movies. So there's like people watching kung
fu movies. And then there's another group that's like dancing
with this incredible DJ. All of a sudden from the

(20:23):
back of the stage. These guys walk out and you're
kind of looking and you're like, okay, these guys are giant,
like bodyguard type. You're looking in the middle of it and
you're like, what, what on earth is that? Who is
this person? And why is she surrounded by five gigantic bodyguards?
And then she makes her way towards Prince who Prince

(20:45):
is in the corner playing pool like he's just shooting pool,
you know, kind of hanging out. And then the group
clears and you see who's in the middle of it.
It's Madonna.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
So it's Donna and Prince hanging out at a pool table.
I'm not joking. I'm not joking, just hanging out at
this pool table.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
And it was the wildest scene in the world cause
you're like, who's gonna You don't have a phone, so
you can't you can't take a picture, you know what
I mean, You can't tweet it, you can't do any
of that stuff, Like, you don't have the ability to
capture that moment beyond word of mouth. But literally, she

(21:29):
she comes through these giant, these gigantic bodyguards and they're
just hanging in the corner, and you're like everyone's kind
of like looking like trying not to be weird, you know,
because like Prince is right there, so it's not like
he's on stage yet, he's just right there. So everyone's
trying to be like like how do im Like we're
all trying to impress prints a little bit, like you know,
how do you how do you get his attention? And

(21:51):
then Madonna's there. It was like a it was one
of those nights man that like, you know, how do
you make that up? And who would believe you because
you don't have a picture because nobody has a phone.
But I kid you not, that was a real thing
that happened. Dude.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
He's been hosting this show now for a while, this
like the fifth time, and this is the best stuff
you said, so for I love hearing it. I want
to hear more about this kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
It was. It was it was fascinating, man. And again
he he he's Jove's witness, so there's no alcohol, Like
he can't he won't sell alcohol at his house, so
there's nothing. So we're just off happiness and joy, you
know what I mean, Like we're just we're just excited
to be there and again you can buy red beans
and rice, bottle water, gluten free brownies. That's it.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
Did you get to see where he beat Charlie Murphy
in basketball? I did see the homecourt advantage for the Blacks.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Did not see that. But I'm really good friends with
his high school basketball coach. So he was a junior
varsity player, great ball handling ability. Uh just wasn't that tall.
But I know his former coach pretty well. All the
stories are real. We'll be back after this more prints. God,
this is good stuff. I mean, it's that's not that's

(23:05):
nothing compared to people. I would say, everybody you meet
in the in Minnesota, they all have a print story,
you know what I mean. Like it's just yeah, it's
kind of the thing, but that's like, that's light work
compared to people who you know, I know, people being
like really really in these cool places with them. My
sister he would play these late these after after party shows.

(23:27):
Like one of the big things he would do here
is like like he'd have a show and then all
of a sudden he'd be like, I feel like going
to the movies, and then at like two am he'd
rent out a movie theater and like they play his
favorite movie. He'd bring some people and then he'd go
play another show. Like my sister was in Chicago once

(23:49):
and she was you know, she knew some NBA folks,
and like all of a sudden, like a text comes
at like midnight and he's like, hey, after the print show,
he's gonna play at those little bar at like three am.
And apparently he played like three to like seven am
at this little bar. They shut down the house. And
so just I love. What I love is performers who

(24:12):
connect with their fans on that level. You know, nothing
against the Taylor Swifts and Beyonces of the world. They're
too big to do that, you know what I mean,
Like they can't anymore, probably do some of that stuff.
But it's cool when you hear those stories about those
sort of intimate shows with some of our favorite stars.
So this guy, Bobby English, I've been talking about what

(24:35):
to bring to the family reunion in Mississippi. Be the
English zero seventeen. He says. One of my managers back
in the day nearly won a chili cook off at
work after he took his crop pot to waffle house
and just told them to fill it up. They charged
him twenty five bucks. Now that's genius, right, You bring

(24:59):
your crop to waffle House and just tell him fill
this thing up, give me all the chili you got.
You bring it to the family reunion, you plug it in.
You know, they don't know the difference. No, it's just chili, right,
And now that might be the way to go that much.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
Eve know, if you go to waffle house though it's
it's Burt's chili, it's established. If you're going to cook
out near a waffle House, someone might spot the Birch's chili.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
I think they went a little far. Yeah, I might have.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
I liked the idea of taking a crock pot into
a restaurant, but Bert he has some famous stuff in
all the waffle homes in the South, So I think
it's a risky move there.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Just throw some extra cheese in it or something like that.
Make it your own, that's what you. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
I don't know waffle house culture, but like so like
they would probably they someone at the cookout would figure
it out, you think.

Speaker 5 (25:51):
I mean, it's it's named after a guy named Bert.
I don't know if Burt's alive. I don't know if
Bert how popular he is. But it is a branded chili.
Ryan used to have chili cookoffs.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
At my house and we had a traveling trophy and
Drew won the traveling trophy.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
I keep it for one year. Yeah, it's an honor,
to be honest. So how did you know that it
Wasn't you know somebody didn't just go to a waffle
house and get some How did you know.

Speaker 5 (26:16):
What I remember about that night? Those memories are limited.
There's a lot more fun being had. I think maybe
some moonshine was brought out at one point. When it
came time to vote for the chili. It was a
little chaotic. I was just happy to be the one
that uh was the winner in the end, I got you.
I like the concept of it.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
I like the idea of maybe bringing a crock pot
and going someplace and just having them fill it up
with chili. Yeah, and there's the difference, there's your dish.
And you know what, I'm learning so much on this show.
I think it's gonna go well, Uh for sure, we
got a call too.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
Yes, let's go to Jay Rock.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Jay what you got on this every Monday?

Speaker 6 (27:02):
Hello?

Speaker 3 (27:03):
Hello Jans Jay Rock, How you doing? Hey? Yo? What's
something something made you smile? Well, you're a chemistry with
the guys.

Speaker 7 (27:16):
Hey, going back to your family cook gaut take whatever
you want, ain't nothing bag gonna happen. Imagine getting to
the family cook gat and pulling up with your sister
and having to tell everybody you ain't seen in years
that her.

Speaker 6 (27:26):
Kids is your kids or you they uncle too. Holla.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Okay, I don't know. I don't know what show he
just pitched. I don't I don't know about that. I'm not. Yeah,
it ain't that kind of family reunion that would be
a that would be a challenge, though. I mean I certainly,
I certainly have been in some family reunions and you
learn some things that you didn't know, yes you know
what I mean when you were eleven or twelve. And

(27:52):
then you get older and then people are like, hey,
I'm gonna tell you this story that you never heard.
It's like, do I need to know that? You know? Like?
How much do I need to know of the family business?
At this point, I just want to eat and have fun. Honestly,
that's kind of why I'm here. I don't need to
know what happened in nineteen seventy three at Wisconsin Dale

(28:13):
or wherever y'all are.

Speaker 5 (28:14):
I don't know, at another collar there. That was kind
of a reference we've heard for many years.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Okay, okay, Yeah, that's a different kind of family union.
I want to yeah, any parts of that, but there
could be drama. Well, what's our next call, David? David?
How you doing on this? Mary? Mind it? When something
made you happy, something that made you smile.

Speaker 6 (28:36):
Well, I'm about to leave the state of Arkansas and
makes me smile.

Speaker 3 (28:41):
Okay, that's good.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
And no longer have to be a basketball Bennie.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
Okay, So you were do you live in Arkansas? You
were just there on travel or business or what?

Speaker 6 (28:53):
Well, we were there to see family, gotcha?

Speaker 3 (28:56):
Okay, so you know about family get together. What do
you think about this idea of me bringing something to
the family re union?

Speaker 6 (29:04):
Yeah? I like the idea of stealing something from a restaurant.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
Okay, I like that too. Yeah, I'm thinking that might
be the way to go. But you didn't make a
good point. If it's if it's like a local place
and then it's out of business, or like what if
they don't have enough, then I'm kind of in a
tough spot, right.

Speaker 6 (29:25):
So your family reunion. What to colleges come in that
you don't like?

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Oh with me, that's good. See it's hard for me
because you know, as a college sports guy, I don't
really have, you know, animosity against anybody. It'll probably be
like where I played college football, which is Minnesota State
man Cato, probably Saint Cloud's State was a school, and
then Monona State was another school. So those two schools,

(29:54):
I probably would hand them the water and then knock
it out of their hands on that on that day,
you know what I mean? Like if they were probably like, hey,
I know what, you're thirsty at a one hundred degrees,
here's a glass of water, and then I'd probably knocked
out of their hands. That's probably what I would do
with those particular schools. Does that mean there you go?
I'm just being all, is that too far? Fellas?

Speaker 8 (30:17):
Is that?

Speaker 3 (30:18):
No rivalries? That's what makes sports great.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Man.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Every school's got their their bid or rival. So if
if Winona Judd was your big rival, go you go
for it, and that the judge the juds.

Speaker 5 (30:32):
How about the Saint Cloud State Huskies? Now we got
to add them to our list. We got to stand
up for I didn't know we had a rival there.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
Man, they they you know, they're those people who they
just think they're better than you a little. It just
it just it rubs you the wrong way when you're
around there, you know what I mean, Like it just
it just it just don't feel good. All of their
football players too, and like dudes who had a certain look,
you know, all had like their hair the same way.

(30:59):
It was just one of those things that you just
and then when on a uh that that was just
another place I just didn't really that's a rival for sure.
They're by this uh by the Mississippi River. They'd always
talk about we're on the river. So what even when
on a Minnesota who cares, you know what I mean,

(31:20):
Like that's your claim to fame. Get out of here.
So those would probably be the two schools I think
for me, what we got time, role work, calls, got
junior junior. What's something that made you happy? Is something
that made you smile on this merry Monday.

Speaker 9 (31:35):
Got a little bit of rain yesterday that helped you. Okay,
last Monday you were talking about the ending of the
Calipery era, and I couldn't get in to make the analogy.
But the perfect analogy is the final scene of training day.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
And everybody him that is so many years.

Speaker 9 (32:00):
Yeah, and then he needed one last thing to get
the heat off of him, and the people in the
hood wouldn't do it, and then Kentucky fans wouldn't either
it and it's goodbye, good.

Speaker 6 (32:10):
Bye, along Ago.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
That's that's a yeah, that's a fair. That's an interesting
Comparisson's always fascinating to me about that. My movie is
that was Denzel's Oscar, right, like that, you know what
I mean, all these other great movies you made, that
was sort of his Oscar moment. But yeah, I think
I wonder what the game is gonna be, like, fellas,
Like I wondered, like that Arkansas Kentucky game in Lexington, right,

(32:35):
the only game of the year, Which why the sc
did that? I don't know. You gotta play multiple games
considering the storylines that that's just gonna be interesting to
see the vibe in that building when Cal walks back in,
you know what I mean, That's gonna be interesting to see. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
I was there when Patino came back, and it was
till to this day, maybe the most it is the
best pregame environment. I've ever been to any sport, any
game anywhere, how Rupp felt waiting on Patino to come
out in the locker room, come on the court. It'll
be the same way when Cali Perry comes out, when
Arkansas comes in, it'll be the exact same.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
I was there for one of the first games when
Kentucky went to play Patino, and I was stay at
the same hotel as the Kentucky players, and there was
a line of state troopers on every floor walking them
around everywhere like it was crap. I've never seen anything
like it, never seen anything like it. We'll talk a
little bit more about the NBA Draft and a good

(33:33):
cookout after this.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
Prince, what food to bring to a family reunion?

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Back on ks I, Mama, Prince, I love the vibe,
love with this show. Has been a lot of cookout talk.
What's some sports and other stuff sprinkled and let's knock
out these live reads.

Speaker 8 (33:54):
The segment of sponsored by our friends at Cornbread Hemp.
We want to remind you that at this very moment,
Prohibition Group are trying to reverse the twenty eighteen Farm
Bill that has made corn bread hemp legal and other
hip products legal in Kentuki and throughout the country as well,
which means if this goes through, we'd be recriminalizing a
plant that we all depend on for a better quality
of life. But the good news is you can help
and there's still time to act. Go to Cornbreadhemp dot

(34:16):
com slash ksr. This's cornbreadhimp dot com slash ksr. You
click on the link to contact your members of Congress
to let them know very politely that you want to
keep cornbread hemp legal. One more time. That's cornbreadhimp dot
com slash ksr paid for by Cornbread Hemp.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Back to you, Myron. All right, NBA Draft is obviously
coming this week. I'm looking forward to seeing, you know,
where everybody ends up. It's a hard draft to figure
out a lot of international guys, you know, with a
bunch of YouTube highlights. We haven't seen them for the
most part in this country. I know Alex Sar could

(34:53):
be the top pick. A lot of people talking about him,
but yeah, reach ever's gonna be top five pick and
it makes in the draft like this, I think he
showed more athleticism than anybody knew he had in the
combine and then being, you know, the best three point
shooter in the country. I think the pedigree, all those things.

(35:13):
I think he can come in and be a really
good addition to any team. I mean, the thing about
Read Shepherd, he's not gonna hurt your team, you know,
like he can come in and play and contribute. And
I don't know that you can say that about everybody
in the first round. There's gonna be a lot of
G League guys in this first round. But I think
Read Shepherd can come in and be a contributor right away.

(35:35):
I'm not saying he'll be a great player right away,
but he can contribute on day one. I think with
an NBA team, what do you all think?

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Well, I think so too, And I kind of secretly
hope he would slip the fourth with the Spurs that
I think they could build with him and Victor Winbinyama.
You know, I think that'd be kind of fun to
watch Reid develop with him. So, I mean, he's if
he even last though four. You know, one mock draft
had him at number one, and one time in the
past week or so, it seems to be three or
four seed to be the safe pick. But either way,

(36:02):
it's gonna be amazing to where this time last year
we were thinking about him being probably the seventh or
eighth man coming in.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Well, I guess he was the seventh Couch thanks Ryan
Couch top five pick, but came top five pick, but
came off the h's drew. What do you think can
he come in and contribute right away?

Speaker 5 (36:22):
I think I just felt pain that I didn't want
to fill again Ryan bringing it up, you know it
seems Uh, I'm pretty convinced he's gonna go to the Rockets.
We heard early in the process they liked him, and
as you just read more and more stuff from the
guys that covered closely.

Speaker 4 (36:34):
You know your colleagues, Jonathan Given. Is that how you
pronounce it?

Speaker 3 (36:37):
Gavoni? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (36:39):
His most recent mock draft, UH has read the Rockets,
saying both the the coaching staff and the front office
love read there for youth and what he can do
in the back court. So I'm kind of penciling him
in at number three. But I'm most excited to see
what happens to Rob Dillingham because he could go to
the Spurs and play with Wimby. ESPN has him projected
going there with the eighth pick because the Spurs have

(37:00):
two top ten picks. But whatever team gets reading Rob,
those are two all time favorites in Lexington. Those two
organizations are getting a whole fan base coming with those
guys because UK fans are excited to keep following them
with their next step because we didn't get enough of
him here in Lexington.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Yes, it's gonna be fascinating. I think with Rob. You
know I've been I told Matt this before he came.
I'm like, listen, Rob is Rob Like. I think he's
one of the more polarizing guys in the lottery right now.
You know there a lot of people go, okay, can
he contribute on the defensive end? I think he measured
about six to one. The thing about Rob is he
is a real score like. He is like a legit

(37:39):
natural score who I think can get buckets at any level.
I think it'll just come down to him in the
NBA and having that freedom, I think we'll see a
different player. He was great obviously at Kentucky and everything
he's able to do. But Rob Dillingham in an NBA
system where you can't zone people, you gotta go one

(38:00):
on one all the time, you're playing this fast break basketball.
I think he has a chance to be really good
because I think that actually plays to his strengths more
than any other thing. Is is the draft also, I
mean you mentioned this, Drew. Is it also a bit
of a like, my goodness, we're gonna have two lottery
picks and another guy in Antonio Reeves who could go

(38:21):
at some point in the second round, and we rarely
saw those guys together on the court because of the
way Calip proch things. Is that a bit of a
like a sour reminder as well, even though you're happy
for him.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
Yeah, I can't.

Speaker 5 (38:34):
I can't speak for the whole fan base, but I
feel like we all did a good job of moving
on with when Mark Pope got here. We had that
big press conference in Roperena. Pope's built a roster. I
think everyone likes, they're excited to see. But Draft week
is kind of reopening that wound.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
A little bit.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
There was a graphic that went around social media just
this past weekend where it listed the best shooters in
the draft in one, two, and three had Kentucky logos
by their names. So that kind of that that brought
back some thoughts we thought we had moved on from
so that night. Even though we'll be happy for him,
I'm sure they'll play some highlights that will hurt us
a little bit, but overall, we're still excited to see
those guys live their dreams and read and rob especially

(39:11):
wherever they end up. Like I said, I think they'll
sell a lot of jerseys in the Bluegrass Staten.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
It was coaching malpractice. Those three guys didn't play together.
It was just ridiculous. And the fact that if the
first two picks are foreign players, three and four could
be UK guys, back to the first two college players
could be Kentucky guys. And the fact that they all
didn't play together. It's just it's coaching mail practice. What
happened last year.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
Yeah, it's interesting kind of how that all unfolded, because
it seemed pretty obviously everybody you know, I think part
of this, and I don't think it's just Kentucky. I
think the NIL era has even made it more challenging,
because you know, it's one thing to promise the kid,
we're going to give you a starting spot and all
those things. Now the NIL money attached to it, I

(39:57):
think it's almost added more pressure to coach, for coaches
to have to say, all right, here's a spot, right,
you're gonna be our point guard, you're gonna be our
small fort whatever. And I think it just puts a
lot of programs in a tough spot when when you're
not willing to adjust, because my goodness, you got a
couple lottery picks. You got to get them on the court,
and you got to play them a ton and you

(40:19):
got to start them. I think too right, that didn't happen,
But still a great moment. This is my favorite week
of the year because I love seeing the guys I've
covered since high school reach their dreams. Like it's just
always such a cool moment to watch them walk across
the stage. Their families are there. I've been the NBA drafts.
It's just a really cool moment when you see some

(40:39):
of these guys achieve their dreams. We got time for
one last call. Let's yeah, let's do Chase Jase. How
you doing?

Speaker 10 (40:49):
Guys?

Speaker 3 (40:52):
Were good? We're good?

Speaker 9 (40:54):
Well, Maa.

Speaker 10 (40:55):
What made me smile? What made me happy is still
from last Saturday. Uh drove the fiance up to the
meet and greet. She just started diving into Kentucky Sports
the past two years listening to you guys every day,
and I gotta give her a quick shout out because
the best part about Saturday was we found out we're
gonna be first time parents the morning before we drove

(41:18):
the Lexington.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Yo, relations man, let's go wow, first first time. So
you don't you don't know. You haven't done the gender
reveal yet. You don't know any of that stuff yet.

Speaker 6 (41:30):
We haven't even told the family.

Speaker 10 (41:32):
You guys are the first ones to know.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
Oh okay, oh we're honored.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
Yeah, all I'll say, and you do with this what
you want. My Ron is a pretty good name. I'm
not you know, you do what you want to do,
but it's just I would put it on the list
if I were you. But no, congratulations to you and yours.
Have an incredible time. I hope everything goes well. Uh
that's that's a fascinating, fascinating moment for I think any couple,

(41:59):
any parent here. So thank you very much. Did we did?
We get all our reason and we did do everything
we had to do. We did. This was fun as usual.
I can't wait to do it again next week just
before the family reunion. And uh, you all have a
great Monday, smile a lot, find something to laugh about.

(42:21):
I'll see you soon.
