Now here's Matt Jones This is not Matt Jones, It's
Dru Franklin. Matt Jones is at some library in Hogwarts,
enjoying his vacation, week six of his vacation. But with
me I have Billy Rutledch, who never stops working for iHeart,
Adam Luckett, the king of all things on the Kentucky
football beat, and Miss Tyler Thompson, who makes Kentucky Sports
(01:24):
Radio dot Com run. We're gonna get to a little
more of the calls, a little more football talk, but
first I want to tell you about our friends at
cornbred Hemp. You know, Americans are in danger of losing
their right to full spectrum CBD products like the ones
made of cornbread hemp, and at this very moment, prohibition
groups are trying to reverse the twenty eighteen Farm Bill
that made himp illegal, which means recriminalizing a plant that
we depend on for a better quality of life. The
(01:45):
good news that you can help. There's still time to act.
Go to cornbreadhimp dot com slash KSR and click on
the link to contact your members of Congress to tell
them very politely to keep cornbread legal. That's cornbreadhimp dot
com slash KSR. Just take some corn bread. Last night
you said we had to get up early.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
I knew I had to hit the road early, so
I went to bed early, and I wanted to wind down.
I had one of the berry gummies. The berry is
my favorite flavor. I love it.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
I like the watermelon, big watermelon fan. Let's I hear
we have a call in the line. Let's go to
our caller. Who we have, Matt Darryl? Thanks for calling in.
What do you have for us?
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Okay, Darryl?
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Oh, here we go. What's up?
Speaker 5 (02:26):
We're not interrupted?
Speaker 6 (02:29):
How you guys do the car lot?
Speaker 5 (02:32):
All right?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
We heard what's going on? Haven't heard from you in
a while.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
Not much of the just staying busy. The got a
few things, you know. I know y'all talked about Mario
and everything he's doing with you guys. But I got
a chance to watch Mario on the hardwood this past weekend.
He's got a little game.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
He can't hear you right now, but Mario, we got
a caller saying, you got a little game. Did you
play some ball this weekend? Some game basketball? Did you play?
Mario's acting like I don't know what you're talking about. Dryl.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Yeah, he Uh he played against the OPB Swish, which
is the new women's team on Sunday the he uh
got a chance to play with them. I think J
D Harmon a bunch of UK players, my son Jackson
went down and played and the women's team. That's why
I want to tell everybody you know UK fans, Uh,
(03:21):
you got Mikayla Epps, Victoria Dunlap all playing on the
new pro women's team, Uh coming to Eastern Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Nice. What was the name of that pro women's team.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
Op B Swish.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Oh, Mario just now remembered playing. I was going to
tell you, Darryl, You're crazy, because Mario didn't know what
I was talking about. But now he remembers, you know,
just casually forgetting about playing basketball last weekend, you got
anything else for us, Darryl?
Speaker 6 (03:47):
Uh No, I was. I was just gonna ask, you know, Uh,
I get a chance to uh watch all of them
quite a bit, but wanted to get y'all's opinion on
uh jasper or Moreno, if you could, if you could
have won, if you all could pick one, which one
are you taking?
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Well? Thank you for that question. We appreciate the call.
I'm gonna take these away out and say I want
both desperately. They're different positions. You can't make us choose
between the number one and two player in Kentucky. Can
we are we allowed? This is our exercise. Can we
just say package deal? I want both? Sure?
Speaker 7 (04:19):
Yeah, Jasper keeps the pipeline going right, Yeah, it keeps
the we got the family pipeline there.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
So that after hearing Moreno's older brother Michael Michael on
the show the other day, I want him like as
a you know, a big brother to the program.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Like he was great and the picture of Ryan next
to Moreno was fantastic. It was it was exactly what
I want.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, it was really great hearing from Malachai and Michael,
like both those guys, and we're rooting for Michael. We'll
want him to Malakai, will want him to do well
wherever he goes, but hopefully it's with the Cats.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
We can't wait any longer. On Warren County. Uh, Billy
did a lot of homework. Tyler did some homework. I've
been to Warren County, Luck, and I'm sure you've been
to Warren County absolutely, so we all have Warren county things.
That is, of course Bowling Green.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Didn't need to do a lot of research on this.
Bowling Green has a lot going on our Union counties
and our trembles. We kind of got to get in
the weeds a little bit and find some stuff. Bowling Green.
We could do a whole show on I'll just our
We can't talk Warren County. I'll do a whole show
on twenty third County. Do you know that, Billy twenty third? Now,
I did not know that. I feel like that's pretty
far west to be number twenty three Michael Jordan County.
(05:25):
There go population one hundred and thirty five thousand. Okay.
Billy went to school there at Western Kentucky University. And
I think what people want to know most about Bowling
Green is what did a young Billy Rutledge do while
he was in school?
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Tried to stay out of trouble.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Did you succeed?
Speaker 5 (05:41):
And I did not. If you want to talk specifically
about Western Kentucky, there's one place that you need to know,
and it's called Hilligans. It's the bar at the down
at the bottom of the hill next to Cherry Hall.
That is where you go to get initiated. That's where
you go on your twenty first birthday, and maybe where
you go and get kicked out of one night, maybe
one or two nights. Alleged personal story. Allegedly I can't
(06:04):
expand any further due to my council telling me I
can't speak on that. But I do want to talk
about Warren County before we just dive in completely on
western Kentucky. I did some research. Warren County was named
after General Joseph Warren of the Revolutionary War. He famously
sent Paul Revere out on his midnight run that.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Was pretty important.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
We all remember that where he warned us the British
were coming.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
So Paul wasn't eve gonna go if this guy wasn't like,
hey man, Paul get exactly.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
He was kind of like the Matt Jones billy, go
pick something up, go go tell people that the British
are coming, and then I end up doing that. So
general with Joseph Warren, who the county is named after,
like Drew said, it's the tenth largest county with one
hundred and thirty but the fifth most populous county, so
by area, it's the tenth largest and fifth by most people,
Bowling Green being the third biggest city in the state.
(06:52):
Bowling Green got its name after a square in New
York City that was actually named Bowling Green, where patriots
pulled down a stae of King George the Third and
used the lead to make bullets during the American Revolutionary War.
So Bowling Green gets its name from a square in
New York City.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Did the other bowling Greens also do that? There are
several Bowlings there are. I'm not sure.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
I'd like to think so, though we prefer the Kentucky one.
We douso the famous one in Ohio, and I think
there's even more than that too, not just the one
in Kentucky. In Western Kentucky, the university founded in nineteen
oh six originally named Western Kentucky State Normal School, and
after that it was also a normal school and teachers college,
so teachers went to go learn what they needed to
(07:36):
do there before it became the third largest public university.
I don't know. I don't know why it was named
normal school. We may maybe we'll get somebody from Warren
County that can educate us on more of the history
of Western Kentucky. But originally named normal School, and then
a teachers college.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
We do need our Warren County callers eight five nine
to two two eight seven.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
Some things to do in Warren County is the National
Corvette Museum. It's the only place in the world where
corvettes are made and famously, I think maybe one of
the first years that I was there, a sinkhole opened
up underneath the Corvette Museum, and I believe they preserved
it like it's actually there. You can still see the
cars that right at the bottom of the sinkhole if
you want to see that. So if you have a corvette,
it was likely made in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
My West Broadway Elementary School, we took a field trip
there is that right, Yeah, great times.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
They also have the Lost River Cave system. It's seven
miles where you can do underground boating and zip lines
down there in Bowling Green. And then some famous people.
I may need a little help on the famous people.
I didn't see too many. There is Ben Bailey, the
host of Cash Cat Here you go if you remember
that show. And then Sam Bush, who is an American
(08:42):
musician considered the originator of progressive blue grass music.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
What about Duncan Hines the cake guy. He's from Bowling Green.
Duncan Hins was born in Bowling Green in eighteen eighty
now famous for boxed cake brownies. I don't know what
else is Duncan sounds right? Uh, you said been Bailey.
John Carpenter, the director of Halloween, went to Western as
famous as you. Some famous athletes, he'll Billy Jim the wrestler.
(09:11):
Some websites say Warren County, others list of places called
mud Lick is we're exactly in Kentucky. I'm not certain,
but some websites credit him as Bowling Green. Rex Chapman
was born in Bowling Green Bough. One of the more
famous football players who is still cashing NFL checks is
(09:32):
George Fan. George Fans luck and I know you're familiar
with his story. Similar to the commitment we just got.
He was a basketball player that thought, yeah, I'll try this.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
Nice play tackle in the NFL for like a decade.
Nappy roots. Oh no, he'll shout out, folks.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
That's great. Great. I like George Fan played four years
of basketball. It wasn't like Campbell where he picked it
up along the lines. He was done and just went
to the Western Pro Day with the football players, and
the Seahawks had personnel there and said, who's that guy.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
Well, he played one year of tight end I think
it was when I was still at the school, and
then Justin Johnson did it. So it was like a
little pipeline of basketball players playing on the football team.
And then George got a shot and he ended up
playing what left tackle in the league. So I mean
that's you talk about important positions that maybe number two
or three.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
He's on their roster for this upcoming season.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
George is a great guy I knew. I knew him
personally and wish him the best of luck. But if
I can convey people to go to one place in
Bowling Green, it's Hilligans. That is the spot that is
wherever all the students go. Maybe you may stick out
like a sore thumb drew now being reaching forty there
getting close to it, But at the same time, I
think you would appreciate it as somebody that's gone to
(10:40):
college bars across the country.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Like when you walk in, everybody looks into you and
they're like, you're too old.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
I think I'm getting there. I mean I'm at twenty
nine and they're like, what are you doing old timer,
but now that that was the spot where a lot
of great times have been made.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
A couple more athletes on the football team right now
and Lexington Jansen Dunn and Jordan Dingle and brother Justice
Dingle who played last year from Bowling Green. Some of
my favorite places old Stone Golf Course, even though I've
never played it. This is me sucking up to my
friends to invite me kent everyone, Claude, everyone that lives there.
I'd love to get around this summer. Cheney's Dairy Barn
(11:18):
KSR did a show there, maybe some of the best
ice cream in Kentucky. They got the Hot Rods bill.
You've been to Hot Rods game before.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
I worked there for an entire year, as I guess,
not an intern but a part timer, so I understood
the grind of minor league baseball. And they are the
single A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. I guess back
in the day when there was a low A affiliate.
But we've seen a lot of good players from the
Rays go through that farm system.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Tyer, do you have any strong Warren County thoughts?
Speaker 4 (11:46):
So I think of Warren County. I think of stoplights
because there's that one stretch of Scottsville Road when you
get off I sixty five in Bowling Green and it's
the main drag and it stretches forever. And there is
a fun fact about this from the Bowling Green tourism website.
Bowling Green supposedly has more restaurants per capita than any
other city in the United States, and they're all on
(12:07):
Scottsville Road. I mean, think of a chain restaurant, fast
food restaurant. I'm serious, you could look around. My husband
and I have counted them. I mean, anything that you
can think of. It's on that road. Yeah, breakfast probably
way to find out.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
A couple local favorites were mister Bees, s Griff's Delhi
the Bistro is another one, pub by Novo.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
That's yeah, that's my favorite place.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
I haven't been there, but that does sound good. And
that's it. I think that's about all I got for
Warren County.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
I've got some more carry on.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
So my husband and I have a small place on
Barren River Lake, which is in Allen County but near
Bowling Green. It's about thirty minutes. So whenever we're up
there and we want to, you know, go to the
big city, so to speak. We go to Bowling Green
and we love Pipe by Novo outside of ks Bar,
probably the best wings I've ever had. It's something just
amazing about that sauce. I don't know what it is,
(12:58):
but they do it well. Also White Squirrel Brewery, which
is a brewery run by some some local guys, shout
out to Sean. They actually had opened a place in
one place in Bowling Green and then closed down during
the pandemic and they've reopened in a different spot and
their tap room is huge. So if you're a big
craft beer fan, check out White Squirrel. Love them. They're
(13:20):
big UK fans. And also I noticed today driving through
if you haven't driven through Bowling Green or buy it
on sixty five lately. They their sign game is strong.
They have like these massive Bowling Green signs. I don't know,
have you seen them from there? Yeah, it's like rock walls.
They've got accounted seven flags in addition to a giant
American flag, so there's one when you come into Bowling
(13:42):
Green and one when you go out. So their sign
game is strong.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
I had money.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
I don't know Warren Center or Warren County, but there's
dinosaur world that you have to drive by to get, don't.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
You don't you be taking things out of Barron County
and putting them in Warren County. Barren County will get
very upset.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Yeah, of course you have. You have to recognize that
big dinosaur out there. And then you know some of
the schools there. You know Bowling Green, but there's Warreny, South,
Warren Greenwood, Warren Central, all these schools I worked for
back then doing play by play a young Billy r
Sports back in the day.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
A little Cage the Elephant too, You Cage the Elephant.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Yeah, they came and did a show at the football
stadium when I was there. And obviously they've become a
much better football school over the last few years with
Jeff Brohm when he was there before. He's now at Louisville.
Speaker 7 (14:27):
Shout out Lonel de Walt, the best kick of all time.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Well, that's fun going through Warren County little billy memories there.
I'll try to get more out of him about getting
kicked out of the bar. But if you're from Warren County,
give us call eight five nine to two two eight
seven and we'll be right back after this break Welcome
back Tucky Sports Radio. Drew Franklin here having fun with
the text machine. I'm replying to a guy. He's having
me rank my favorite beers post Mo beer, Friday beer,
(14:53):
beach beer, cookout beer for you it is. This is
all the fun we have on the text machine. Me
just talking to people. I don't even know them to number,
I don't know male female age, but we're having lots
of fun. There also lots of Tyler compliments. I'm trying
to find the exact message. I've lost it, but someone
said there's one in particular, one to find. But they
(15:13):
were complimenting your long form writing like you did with
the Stacey reed and the one you wrote about your
dad they said was your favorite. But lots of Todler
compliments there. I'll try to find more as we read
text machine text machines text throughout the day. But right
now we got a little parlay talk. It's time to
get the parlay band back together. We've been in the lab.
We wanted to do a little US soccer. Uh, they
(15:34):
fizzled out. They're gone out of the Copa America. So
I realized this upcoming weekend is the John Deere Classic
I might even go to the John Deere Classic. The
wife is that I have looked at hotel rooms, got
a friend playing in it, a former champion. But I'm
gonna be very interested in that tournament. And I thought,
let's do our first golf parlay. How do you do
a golf parlay? You ask many ways, but in this case,
(15:58):
we're picking three golfers to fish top forty.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
That's it. Top forty.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Don't be doing that. That's it.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Like, that's it.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
This is still gonna be pretty long odds, but that's
all we need. We need three people to have a
top forty finish this week in Sylvis, Illinois. You know
where that is? I tell them, I thought it was
about Chicago. In my research last night I realized we
might be celebrating the fourth in Iowa. It is basically Davenport, Iowa.
I've already looked in at their red, white and boom,
but no one cares about what I'm doing. Let's talk
(16:25):
a little golf billy. We let you have first pick
and who you're choosing in the top forty KSR parlay
presented by DraftKings Sports Boots.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Well, we don't want this parlay eat to be impossible.
So I think we throw at least one favorite out there, right,
and you do the favorite. I like you being the favorite.
Looking at John Deere Classic, it looks like we're getting
the B lineup. It's a lot of guys that aren't
participating in the majors. So when I see a name
like Jordan Speith, who's what plus twenty two hundred to
win alone? But we're going top forty, I think I
gotta throw Jordan's speeth in there.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Right, Speif I think believe a former John Dere winner,
good player, I'm taking a top forty speF love that pick.
He looks like he's minus two twenty five, so I like, go,
that's a pretty that's a favorite there. Uh, who's your pick?
Speaker 7 (17:09):
Any parlay you want to, you gotta have sure bet.
Speith is our sure bet here this week, Drew. You know,
as you all know, this is my willhouse here.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Big big golf guy on the KSR website.
Speaker 7 (17:18):
And with golf gambling, there's a ton of stuff you
can do, so be careful if if you get into
that rabbit hole. But it's definitely a fun sport to
bet on because of everything you can wager on. But
for me, I'm gonna go Keith Mitchell here, Drew Kashmir, Keith,
long hitter off the tee. Can't miss him wearing a big,
thick visor. He essentially finished his top thirty in every
(17:40):
tournament as long as he makes a cut, so he
should make a cut in a field like this, He's
got a really good chance to contend, not only top forty,
but I think he could be in the top ten.
He could be in one of those final groups on
Sunday if he puts it all together. So give me
Keith Mitchell Kashmir.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Keith is minus one ninety.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
I like that the visor player, I do like it.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
The visor is what he's known for. But anyone, even
if you don't care about golf, watch golf. You'll spot
him because he unbuttons his shirt so far down to
let that chest hair rock. I mean you can almost
see belly button through the top of his shirt. He
keeps that thing so low. I'm gonna bring us to
get us to the odds. We need to make this
parlay last with a little bit of a long shot lucky.
(18:18):
I know you're familiar with an absolute legend named Harry Higgs.
He had a rough twenty twenty three, didn't get his
tour card this year, but he played his way back
on the corn Ferry. He won not one, but two
back to back playoff tournaments to get his card. He's hot.
He hold out to even force a playoff to win
(18:38):
one of those. He's now back on the tour. He's
fired up. We love him. He took his shirt off
and the waistman had been opened a couple of years ago.
I feel like Harry Higgs is gonna complete our parlay
with this top forty.
Speaker 7 (18:49):
The teitos could be flowing in devin Port, Iowa this weekend.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Here's our issue with Harry Higgs. Though sometime maybe titos
could be fun.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
Just kidding.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
He wouldn't do that, but you know, if it goes wrong,
it goes wrong. So do we feel good about a
top forty? Is he he's plus one sixty. This is
a long shot.
Speaker 7 (19:04):
Here's the thing about this. You're really betting to make
the cut. Yeah, you make the cut, you have pretty
good chance to get into that top forty. So as
long as he makes the cut, I think it's a
big tournament for Hicks. He really needs to play well.
He really needs to have a not only make the cut,
but really get like contend here. So I like that
play here. He just played in the US Open, did
not play. I don't think terrible the US Open. So yeah,
(19:25):
you're backing a golfer who's been on this level trying
to get back to this level in a big spot.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Got that car, he's hungry.
Speaker 7 (19:31):
I do like.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Our analysis is that one guy unbuttons his shirt a lot,
and the other one has taken his shirt off after
one hole. So we're the shirts off.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
We are. We like a little skin with things. Bryan
would love this, but you can check. I'm gonna actually
have them put this on the app. Maybe well it's
ridiculous as that was. Well, you'll you'll find it in
the golf segment over at DraftKings sports Book. Be sure
to use promo code KSR. New customers can get up
to one and fifty and bonus bets instantly when you
bet only five dollars only on DraftKings. The crown is yours.
(20:04):
But we're not done talking DraftKings. Tyler found I don't
even know you could do this. We have Nathan's hot
dog eating odds. I don't even know who's in it
with Joey Chestnut? Who's these days?
Speaker 4 (20:15):
And does it even exist if Joey Chestnut's in it
and not in it? And yes it does. So there
are odds you can bet on who will win the
Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contests this year. And obviously Joey
Chestnut was banned from the event because he signed a
deal with Impossible, you know, the fake meat stuff, and
that just did not fly. He's doing his own event,
which Billy will tell us about in a minute. But
(20:37):
if you do want to dabble on the Nathan's Hot
Dog Eating contest, Jeffrey Esper is the current favorite. He
finished second last year. You can get him at one
minus one fifteen odds. So here are a few of
his accomplishments his eating records. He ate nine point seventy
five pounds of spam from the can in eight minutes.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
That's impressives, that's disgusting.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
What about two hundred and eighty one buffalo chicken wings
in twelve minutes?
Speaker 7 (21:05):
Oh, he could do some damage to kass Bog.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Yeah, his Wings Day, he's not invited to Wings Day.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
And then finally seventeen point seventy five and I love
that we get so specific with the numbers. Here bagels
with cream cheese in eight minutes.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
The stuff people manage to find much cream cheese?
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Yeah, I know, like I feel is that a regulated amount?
I feel like it would slow you down.
Speaker 7 (21:24):
I mean, you go to Dunkin Donuts and they're they're
putting about a pound of cream cheese on there. So
we're talking about light spread, thick spread. I'd like to know,
ye serving here.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
They probably don't serve himself either. You know, he's probably
comes with the cream cheese and.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
They're all regulated amount, right, right, exactly fair.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
It is always disgusting when they dip the dog in
the water, that's the But.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
There's strategy there. Oh yeah, yeah, you have to keep it.
I know way too much about this this week.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
You love blog about it every.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
D Yeah, we used to live blog it and now
the live blog is gone rip. But we will have
a thread going on Chaos Board. Although I wonder Joey
Chestnuts in not in it, will people actually watch it?
I mean, obviously someone else is gonna win, so does
that make it more interesting or are people just not
gonna care?
Speaker 7 (22:09):
There will be shoveling hot dogs down the gull and
I think people are gonna want to watch.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
So some of Jeffrey Esper's competition, James Webb, you can
get him at plus one eighty right now. His records
are seventy glazed donuts in eight.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Minutes, just the random foods they decide to be competitive.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
No, this is the weirdest. One three hundred and thirty
eight pistachios in eight minutes.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
Oh, he's not cracking those either.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
They've got to be already like d shelled or yeh,
nick Waarry and he's the ex.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Is that eater X?
Speaker 4 (22:41):
I think that's eater X.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
That's who happy.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
Probably he does plus seven fifty right now on DraftKings,
and his is the weirdest and probably the grossest to me.
He ate fifty harboiled eggs in three minutes and four seconds,
so it's like the first to finish wins three minutes.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Some of these are discussing bathrooms. Yeah, we're gonna take
a quick break. Maybe go ahead, get our wing order
in for Wingsday. Here we're buying lunch. But uh, this
is Drew, Billy Tyler and Adam MONKSR. We'll be right
back with more football talk, maybe more competitive eating talk. E. J.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.
Speaker 7 (23:16):
He'll make them pay.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio, present it by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Here's Matt Jones. Come on, Billy, tap your feet. You
know it's a bop.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
I've heard this the dance, though I don't know the dance.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
I requested this. It's a song called Austin. It gets
stuck in my head and I love it. I heard
it in a store one day and I said, Abby,
who is this person singing? I can't stop tapping my
feet and that is why it is our whiskey thief
song of the day. I think her name's Dasha. Dasha,
I don't know, but her bootstop don't stop working in
mind don't either. So Matt, thank you for playing that.
That's what happens when you let me in charge the music.
(23:51):
Here on case we've been and watch it a little
too much.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
TikTok.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
I think that sounds like a TikTok song. It's not
where I heard it. Heard in Nashville. Actually, furnisure shopping.
Good time. Matt. Let's put you back to work and
go to the phone lines. If we have someone there
for us. Sean, thank you for going into KSR. What's up?
Speaker 8 (24:09):
Hey, I don't live in Warren County, but I've worked
and lived in and out of Warren County for the
last thirty years.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
So Warren County is a great place. Every county around
that surrounds Warren County depends on the Bowling Green area.
So Warren County is a great place.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Sure is got anything else for us? Just shouting out
Warren County. I love it, appreciate shout out. Of course,
it earned that shout out from you.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Yeah, And he's not lying. Like Warren County and Bowling
Green it's growing so fast, Like it feels like every
time we drive there, there's a new, you know, neighborhood
popping up. And I'm sure there's some stat about how
it's like one of the fastest growing cities in Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
And people did mention we forgot the beach Bend Park
each that's there's and I never been there, but it
is a tradition in Bowling Green. Does it have a beach? No,
has it been? Has it been? There's a water side though.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
I'm pretty loyal to Clark Pumping Shop. Got it tatted
on me that's where I'm going for my gas. Got
a little gotta go get my marathon around Lexidon, but
we do. Was probably mentioned that Warren County just got
a gigantic BUCkies. That's a big deal for them. Yeah,
so if you're into BUCkies, that's there. But we'll be
Clark's pumping and shopping.
Speaker 7 (25:15):
They also have a Chick fil A play place off
of sixty five, which is this sounds like, which is
a big deal for the luck of family on our
long road trips to see the in laws of Florida.
That is Chick fil A play places are worth their They're.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
Waiting gold.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Playmore. They do not used to have them all the time.
Speaker 7 (25:35):
So that's a mustat the Chick fil A playplace.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Love that. I feel like the way you talk about
you act like you've been to war on some of
these road trips you have. You just did one. Didn't
you go to Florida and you took the whole family?
Speaker 4 (25:45):
You drove Disney World.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
We did, we did, We did Orlando, we did Disney did.
We did the International Drive. We did the whole shebang,
and the drive down there was an adventure to say
what man.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
I always feel like Florida's the adventure, So you had
an adventure to get to the adventure and then venture home.
Speaker 7 (26:01):
It was I mean, just call me adventure Adam, because
that's what the whole trip was. But yeah, we had
we had quite a few shenanigans. But the drive down
was a lot of hair was being pulled in in
our Hyundai Santa Fe on the on the way down.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
You're still newish to this dad thing. Got two boys?
Speaker 5 (26:18):
Are you?
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Are you full dad mode? Like you know, you got
one in a backpack and one on a leash. And
how does this how's Adam looktt approach family vacations these days?
Now you're in charge.
Speaker 7 (26:29):
It takes a village. And so we usually there's usually
grandparents are along for a trip, either either one set
or both sets. This this trip we had both sets
so we could kind of play zone defense or double coverage.
We got to do a lot of double and triple coverage,
which was nice. And so yeah, that's that's kind of
how how we did it. And we got we got
some nice relief, thankfully, so me and Taylor got to
(26:50):
go out and do some fun stuff like we got
to do Universal with just adults with sisters and both
both dads, so that that was definitely that was definitely nice.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Yeah, what's the playbook for Disney World two kids that young?
Speaker 5 (27:01):
I'm sure our listeners have either been about to go about.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
I think she got like fast passes and bracelets and
all these.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
Yeah, I definitely think the fast pass is something you
should look into if your kids are old enough to ride.
But uh, Baker not really old enough to do all
that yet. So it's a lot of we found like
this a little splash pad, which was nice. They got
us forty five minutes to rest, have a decked out
stroller with snacks. Don't forget the fan. They we brought
(27:29):
the fan. It wasn't charged, so that was a rookie mistake.
But again I think just uh weather is the big thing,
Like you don't want to go on a day is
super hot. You don't have much control over that. But
the nice thing about Disney there's a lot of shaded areas,
there's places you can go inside, and there's there's ranges
for things the kid to do, Like he'd liked the
little Peter Pan ride, which is like inside it goes slow.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
It's a small world.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
But yeah, and There's a Small World, which was closed
the day we went. Well man, my mother in law
was definitely disappointed.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
In these were some goods and money back. I feel like, hey,
that's while you're there.
Speaker 7 (28:01):
I need to call Mickey Mouse and say, hey. The
one thing I didn't really realize about Disney World is
like the T shirt market. Everyone there is wearing like
a Mickey or a Goose.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
You all didn't have matching T shirts.
Speaker 7 (28:11):
We did. I I had no idea that that was. Like,
I just guess I didn't realize that was a thing. Yeah,
Like they're making a killing just off of people just
buy buy T shirts, and like people make custom T
shirts like the Smith's Family Vacation, the YadA Gotta. I
did not realize that was a thing. Like that is
a whole industry. Like I just need to go down
(28:31):
to Orlando and sell T shirts because you can make
a killing off of that.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
We know someone who might want to do that.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
I picture this graphic right now, like Adam Luckett's travel tips.
We have grandparents, We have Chick fil a playplace. Are
you like setting the edge to corrall your kids into
the Chick fil A play place for their safe and
then it's when you all get your free time.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
Usually I don't have to do it because he's taken
off because he knows where we're at, sprinting to the
playplace and then uh, a lot of Chick fil A sauce,
A lot of Chick fil A sauce for Baker loves
the sauce.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
That your parents. And advice from Adam Luckett. Let's go
back to the phone line. So here we have some
more people ready to talk to. Adam and Tyler Dennis,
you're up next on KSR. What's up?
Speaker 8 (29:11):
I was just gonna call about Western when they played
in the seventy one finals. All of the top six
players and both coaches were all within one hundred miles
of Booning Green. In fact, Clarence Glover was horse k
and Jim McDaniels was Scottsville, and Jim Rose was from Pazard,
and Jerome Perry and Gary Senmacher were from Louisville and
(29:33):
Alvis players were from Kentucky within one hundred mile radius,
which is pretty rare. The assistant coach was actually the
former coach at Glasgow High School, so you don't necessarily
have to go from college to college but Western was
able to draw that hometown hometown atmosphere which Bowen Green
does also love it.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Love to hear it. A lot of good athletics there
in Warren County. Thank you for calling in. We appreciate
the call. Reading a few texts here, luck Att. The
best beer is a tall draft at Roosters in Fern
Creek on a hot Saturday afternoon. That seems very specific looking.
Haven't there a time or two heard of it? You've
heard of that place?
Speaker 7 (30:10):
It's uh, that's a popular place to go after maybe
you golf around or just if you got nothing else
to do, or if you're just hungry, or if it's Tuesday,
or if it's Wednesday, that is uh, that's the That's
my favorite place. A little what I have to say.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
There any play sets at Roosters, No.
Speaker 7 (30:23):
Place sets at Roosters. Although they are very kid friendly,
kids can kind of run free. They have a back
room that you can have a little area for the kids.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
They just dedicate to the children.
Speaker 7 (30:33):
I would say that just say kind of take it over.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Our Kentucky branded Tweet of the Day is going to
be a text of the Day today because I'm having
too much fun with this a six oh six number
says down here at Orange Beach on vacation, ran into
some Cats fans listening to you all on the beach.
So we had a great conversation with them. Go Cats.
So uh KSR listeners finding other KSR listeners. Uh at
(30:55):
Orange Beach. It's always fun walking by here in a
little KSR playing.
Speaker 7 (30:59):
Just some KSR fans of Disney. Matter of fact, so
that was that was That was unique.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Matter of shirts.
Speaker 7 (31:05):
I don't think they did.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
I do want to bring up a little bit of
a sad note today. It's the anniversary of our boy,
Jared Lorenzen passing away on this date, July third, twenty nineteen,
at thirty eight years old. He was on these airwaves
a whole lot. I did the football podcast with him
as a player. Of course, he was the All SEC
quarterback at Kentucky Super Bowl champion with the Giants. We got.
(31:32):
We could do all the nicknames, but a round mount
of touchdown. Pillsbury throw boy, one of my absolute favorite
people ever. Tyler, you knew him well. But sad anniversary today.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
I can't believe it's been five years. I mean, because
of the pandemic, it sort of feels longer in some ways.
I love Jared. You know, everything that anyone ever says
about him is true. He's so he was so down
to earth. And I actually was one of the original
hosts of the KSR football podcasts. It was me and
Freddie and Jared, and I will never forget like, you know,
(32:05):
meeting those two for the first time, and those first
couple of episodes before I handed it over to Nick
and Drew, and he was so special because like he
just made you feel like the center of the room.
And I'll never forget. I did a couple of football
pregame shows with him, and we met in the parking lot,
the media parking lot at Krogerfield and walked, you know,
up to the stadium together. And you know, when you're
(32:28):
walking with Jered Lorenzen, everyone's like, hey, Jared, hefty, lefty,
you know, And he took time to say hey to
everybody while still maintaining a conversation with me. Like it
was just so cool to kind of walk alongside him.
I wasn't walking in his shoes, obviously, but seeing what
even just fifteen twenty minutes in the life of Jared
lorenz And is, like I mean he's I miss him.
(32:49):
He was great.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Yeah, I can't talk too much. I'm big crow baby.
I'll start balling here. But we had a lot of fun.
Like you said, it'd be fun watching him when we
would do the pregame show. Yeah, at the stadium where
we'd drive around, he'd stop and he'd throw one ball
to a little kid and that would make that kid's
uh day. Heck, maybe his life topen. How big of
a fan they were looking on the football field. I mean,
there still hasn't been another Jared lorens In and may
never be another Jared Lorensen.
Speaker 7 (33:11):
Yeah, I think just just he was at every like
fat kid's dream in a lot of ways, like look
at this guy playing quarterback, I want to do that.
Just had a rocket arm and just that not necessarily
played on a lot of good teams at Kentucky, but
I think a lot of fans, especially maybe closer to
our age drew, like some of their biggest memories that
could touch the football were because stuff Jared did right
(33:33):
there with a run against Louisville that everyone brings that up,
you know, the throws behind his head, off his back
the Arkansas game, yelling to the camera, you know where
you're all going. So there's a lot of different a
lot of memories like that. He didn't didn't necessarily have
the big moment on the field that I think everybody
would have liked to see him have. But I think
a lot of people who kind of maybe fell in
(33:54):
love with college football eventually, like I think Jared had
a lot to do with that here.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Locally definitely, And later in his life he launched the
Jared Lorenzen Project where he was losing weight and inspire
others to that. We're very proud of him when he
had that going on. But uh, July third, we always
think of him, and it's fitting yesterday was World UFO Day.
I mean Jared and I and Shannon when we'd get
a control of this show when Matt and Ryan were gone,
a lot of alien talk sometimes Jared, Jared got a
(34:21):
little reckless with the moon landing. From time to time
we let him cook. He had his moments, but uh,
I always think of him not just as the football player,
but a great friend. And some of the great radio
we had doing some alien talk.
Speaker 5 (34:31):
Are the stories about Gatorade and the Super Bowl Gatorade.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
That's that was when the KSR football podcast went viral.
We asked Jared to tell one Super Bowl story from
when he played with the Giants, and because you can
bet on the color of the gatorade of the winning team,
he went over to the Patriots bench and told his
friends the color of the Patriots gatorade. So I think
they bet on that, and then Jared's team, of course,
(34:55):
upsets Tom Brady and they get their ring. But it's funny.
He was leaking a little info there. I don't know.
I might have been frowned upon at the time, but
it made for a good story. And when we said
that on the podcast, we had our Kentucky KSR audience,
but that got picked up by like all coins of
huge websites in that story went everywhere, so that was another.
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Fun Yeah, and quickly, I just want to echo the
same sentiment that you guys have said, especially you Tyler.
I was part time in iHeart and he gave me
his time of day and I interviewed him for my
little old podcast back then. I mean, he didn't have
to do that, he didn't know who I was. But
being able to connect with people, I think that was
probably one of his strongest straits.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Yeah, and I think everyone remembers the he used to
do the periscopes and after Kentucky beat Florida, he we
get the moonshine, now the freezer, and I mean just
the sheer emotion on his face, like a tear up
and smile just thinking of it. I mean, we love you, Jared.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
He used to text me when Forest Gump was on
TV every time, and there's a thing about Forrest Gump.
It's on TV most looks and I would always get
that and then little things. He was on a trip
when this with his son Taitan, who's now becoming a
football player in his own but Taitan was much younger.
But they're on on trip somewhere and Jared drove out
of the way with Tayduan and they both took a
(36:04):
picture in front of Aalen stadium. I won't say exactly
what they were doing, but he said, make sure your
dad sees this. My dad being a Tennessee fan, It's
like we wanted to go all the way and taunt
the balls. So it's fun sharing these Jared memories. We
wish he were still around, but we always associate him
with this day. And I said, Kentucky football legend and
a dear friend of KSR. We're gonna take a break
on that got a little emotional. We'll come right back
(36:24):
at some other football talk. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back Entucky Sports Radio. Drew Franklin here for one
final segment with Billy and our special guest Tyler Thompson
Adam Luckett. Billy, this is this is the end of
me hosting. You know we got We're off tomorrow. That's
right off Friday.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
We survived. Everybody take a vacation.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
No part of the reason I'm here. I wanted to
do a wellness check on you. I mean, you're doing well.
You've kind of been running the ship all on your own.
It's you and Milly had been done an amazing job.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
But thank you very much. Yeah, I know, I've enjoyed
these two days. When the other guys get back, they'll say, DRUGO,
sit in your corner and do your one liner's clown
And that's fine, that's not all. But I enjoyed driving
the ship today. On Monday up to No Good the podcast,
they're gonna be taking over for KSR. They'll be filling
in so you won't hear from me, Ryan or Shannon
(37:17):
that day, but we're excited to hear from them. They've
got a new and good thing going, covering the Cats
younger group, trying to getting their start and doing what
we can do here. So we're excited to hand the
microphones over to them.
Speaker 5 (37:27):
And then after that, Billy back to back to normal, Yeah,
back to the Tom Hart will join us next Wednesday.
He played Pebble Beach yesterday and mentioned that, No, he
said he was gonna be on the lake.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Yeah, yeah, he's not a lake, that's an ocean.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
No, And where was my invite, Tommy? But yeah, Tom
will be on next Wednesday. We'll start to get back
to normal a little bit, and then the week after
then we'll have some more of those pop up remote
shows that we've been doing.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
It's right, looking forward to getting back to normal. That'll
be week seven of Matt's vacation. We're getting closer. I'm
not saying I'm staring down Monday of the August fifth
on my calendar, but I'm staring at it.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
For that well, that will be the week I'm gone. Actually,
there you go.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
You deserve a vacation. Do you all have fourth plans,
you might do anything fun, got a little bit of
if you play it right, you can make it a
real long holiday.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
Well, we're covering football recruiting and announcements.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
But we always have a computer in front of us,
even on Christmas. But you're gonna sneak off to the
lake we.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Were going to, but we are picking up a puppy
for a trial adoption on Saturday, so we may be adopting.
We have like a week to see if it, you know,
if it works between us. We had originally planned to
go to lake, but you know, getting a dog is
pretty important, so we'll be in puppy mode all weekend.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
You have no idea what damage you just did to
me at home. Hopefully we can cut that out of
the podcast. Well, you got going on like it.
Speaker 7 (38:41):
A little pool day Saturday, so excited about that. Then
just made me mostly taking it easy at the house
following the recruiting developments.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Yes, we were gonna hang around Lexington do the downtown stuff.
We're supposed to get bad thunderstorms, so we're like, we're
like planning a just random trip. I mentioned we might
go north watch golf. We're just looking for did anyone
cancel a beach house at the last minute. Those haven't
popped up, but we'll find something to do. Are you
doing anything exciting, Billy.
Speaker 5 (39:06):
Yeah, just lighting off some fireworks, trying not to blow
off my hand. Ten thousand people went to the er
last year in the United States after firework incidents. So
please be careful out there. And I said this on
the pre show. Just be mindful of veterans in your
area and also people with pets that have dogs that
just go crazy during this I think, you know, with
the July fourth being on a Thursday, I think it's
(39:27):
acceptable to do fireworks throughout the weekend, but just be
mindful of your neighbors, because you know, soldiers with PTSD
really have a tough time during this time.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
They started the fireworks in Nashville last night. I was
laying in bed waiting for our cornbread hemp to kind
of settle me down, and I heard them. I was like,
all right, here we go.
Speaker 7 (39:43):
We had some in our neighborhood last night, so we're
starting early.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Me too, What is it with everyone doing it? They'll
do it till July fifteenth too. But there was a
point last night where my wife friend Doll She's like,
was that a bomb? I'm like, that's probably just our
first fireworks of the year. And then a few more
came and just a couple hours of it. I'm a
fireworks hater. I know that's unpopular opinion. I don't know
why everyone thinks that if they have an Instagram account,
we need to see your fireworks. They all look exactly
(40:07):
the same except one of the blue ones or into
different colors. I don't need to see your fireworks.
Speaker 5 (40:11):
Well, yeah, the cell phone video is not great, but
like you're telling me, you don't feel something when you
see fireworks in person.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
No, not at all. In fact, there have been times
where they're shooting fireworks and I am unbothered to leave
my house to look at them. I'm that big of
a fire Wow, I'm not anti American. I just it's
gonna sound. It's just oohing off A few times like, okay,
this is it? What are we doing next? Am I
is that bad? Look at my my hater? Do I
need to leave the country.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
I'm very much in the same boat. I'm not going
to spend money on fireworks or light them off, but
I do enjoy if I go to a fourth July event.
I do enjoy if they have and they have fireworks,
but I'm not walking out of my house to watch
my neighbor three halfway down throw fireworks in the road
or light them up. That's not what I'm gonna do.
(40:57):
But I do enjoy on Fourth July watching so light
off fireworks, but I don't have any interest of going
out there and participating myself.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
So growing up, we had we always had a huge
July fourth party, and my parents would send someone down
to Tennessee because back then in Kentucky you couldn't get
the good fireworks to Tennessee, and somebody would come back
with a ton of fireworks and you were talking about
dangerous fireworks on the pre show. Yeah, so someone inevitably
would end up running around the yard with a Roman
(41:28):
candle in their two Roman candles in each hand. And
then at the end, like the finale was, we put
all these dud fireworks that the store sold us for
super cheap in a big cardboard box in the middle
of the yard and we set the box on fire.
So it's called the Box of Fun.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
And it sounds fun. I took a bottle rocket to
the neck and a kmart parking lot one time, but
I'll save that for another day. It's been fun. I
didn't hurt left the little mark. It's been fun talking
to you all. Billy. I'll talk to you all the time.
But thank you all for making the trip. Tyler from Nashville,
looking from Louisville. We'll be back on Monday with RUP
to no Good, not with the KSR crew, but we're
excited to hear from them. Thank you for listening. Enjoy
(42:07):
a safe holiday weekend. Go America and I guess go farworks.
Speaker 5 (42:11):
And Okay, good job this week, Drue, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
That means a lot
