(00:55):
I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven since
since I've been gone. To day is if you have
a question, Okay, all right, if you have a question
about anything that's happened, our take on anything, you know, trip,
the Olympics, life, whatever, eight five nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven. I'd like to hear from some
of you all because I haven't talked to you in
a long time. A vision auto glass text machine seven

this is sponsored by t J. Smith loffice. You called TJ.
He'll make them pay. Got some good folks here this morning.
This man's from a place I didn't know existed, Lexington, Indiana.
Didn't know there was a Lexington, Indiana, did you.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
I grew up in Indiana and did not know there
was a Lexington, Indiana.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
And we got these folks right here too. Guys go
play or are playing football at Kentucky Wesleyan. They didn't
act like they knew who you were, which I thought,
considering how famous you are, was a little disconcerted.
Speaker 5 (01:46):
Twins from Elizabethtown and now they both playing at Kentucky Wesleyan.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
So woo woo. That's that's gonna make them pumped up
for the for the for the game. So glad to
be glad to be back today. It was a fun
day here yesterday with a ton of people. Everybody was
very nice. Thank you to all the comments that came in.
And now a couple of things are going on. Like
I said, it's TV repair day, and then we just
hung up up here at the top YEP. For many years,
(02:11):
CBS Sports of course did the SEC games and they
you know, they're not doing them anymore, right, no more
SEC games. And what they would do is in each
place they'd go, they'd have a banner. The last CBS
Sports game that they did in Reperina, Drew stole their banner.
I will say, Steele, did they know you have it?
(02:33):
Do you stole it for the last game? So it
is now hanging in the bar CBS Sports. The banner
that that hung in Raperina for all of the legendary
CBS Sports broadcast is now hanging in ks bar thanks.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
To Drew's theft. And we Appreciatedrew again. I don't like
to call it a theft. I don't know how any
statute of limitations there, but it looks really good as
it passed. Yet remember that, uh the day of that game,
I said on the radio show, I was leaving Reperino
with it.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
You did you did? You did and there, and and
it's up there. It's right next to the final four
uh banner from ninety six. So uh, you know your
one of your jobs while I was gone, Ryan was
to sort of redecorate. You got the final four banners.
You got to read Shepherd Jersey and Oscar Sheebway Jersey.
So things have gone well. You still got a couple
(03:26):
of things to do, but you've done well.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
Yeah, we were done on this day. We just needed
behind in the stage.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Here.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
We with some new pictures here and we'll have it
all ready to go for you.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Base we have I don't know what we have. Well,
good question, No, we could. If somebody had a picture
of the two guys doing the Spider Man thing to
each other, or three guys at home plate, that'd be
good to hang up. If we had that.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
We had a debate when you were gone, then no
one McCarthy slide into home plate.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
That also good.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
But he transferred he's leading Georgia and going to Georgia.
Speaker 6 (03:53):
On the schedule.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Yeah. No, then we do the we do the one
where they point each Okay, I feel like that's the
sort of legendary image with everybody the Spider Man. So
if anybody has that picture, like a good version, because
we can't just take it off the internet. If you
have one, uh, then we'll we'll turn it into a
picture and we'll hang out somewhere. Or maybe you could
tell the people UK they.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
Probably have I bet they've got it.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
I bet they would. I bet they would give us something.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
So I'll hang up my peak and bucket hat too.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
That'll be a nice edition. Also, today we have I'm
not looking forward to this, So Billy come back, Matt.
Billy calls me on Friday and Billy goes, hey, just
so you know, Tuesday and Wednesday we have a two
hour hour podcast seminar. And I said what is that?
(04:43):
And they go, we're gonna teach They're gonna teach us
about podcast for two hours. Now. First of all, I
was doing podcasts before them. True, Okay, remember we for
a couple of years couldn't get access because Big Easy
started the podcast before iHeart. So I'm not looking forward
to this. I'm not gonna lie to you, I do.
(05:04):
What are they going to teach us in a podcast?
I thought we were the ones teaching. I thought we're speaking. No,
they're teaching us, So what do.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
We well, I think too. We have to go shake
some hands and think some clients are going to be there.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
I don't mind that. I don't I don't want to
go to the podcast.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
And I'm with you, but go not just once but
twice today and tomorrow, once in Lexington. Tomorrow's in Louisville.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
So they're not it's national podcast. People are coming apparently,
So Shannon, are you excited at that?
Speaker 3 (05:32):
You know, I love podcasts.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
I've still got the word podcast blocked on Twitter. If
you tweet me the word podcast, I'll never see it.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
That's exactly right. Shannon does have the worry for people
being mad with the podcast up. If you need to
know when the podcast is up, you better find a
different word because Shannon won't see it. He has it
blocked because he hates people asking.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
People are getting creative on how they ask for the podcast.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
So anyway, we have that today as well. Eight five, nine, two,
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We will take your calls.
There are a couple things we didn't get to yesterday
that I want to talk about, and I think we
need to talk a little bit about just football in general.
Probably didn't talk about it as much yesterday, and two things.
I want to talk about the season coming up, and
(06:15):
then also talk about Stoops's comments last week. But let's
talk about the season. So you look at his schedule
coming up this year. I don't know that it occurred
to me until I was looking at things a few
nights ago, just how hard this gets. I mean, you
could make three of the top four teams in the
SEC in the preseason standings, we play two of them
(06:40):
in a row. Yes, okay, we basically traded Missouri and
Mississippi State for Texas and Auburn. That's basically what we did. Sure,
Missouri and Mississippi State for Texas and Auburn. That's not easy,
especially when it's at Texas and then Vandy, which my
(07:02):
view about Vandy is you always want to play them
on the road because it's they have no home field advantage.
You're basically wasting a home game with Vandy. So it
is a very hard schedule. And I was sitting here
looking at it and saying, all right, because I like
to try to break it down in my head. Let's
assume you win the four stinky teams Southern miss Ohio,
(07:26):
Murray State, and I'm gonna go ahead and put Vandy
in there too. Okay, so let's just give them those
four all right. Now, I'm gonna say that it's gonna
be really hard to beat Georgia, yes, And I'm gonna
go ahead and say it's gonna be really hard to
win at Texas. All right, that's not impossible. Teams go
and do it. But I think this year it's gonna
(07:49):
be hard. Yes, So that means they're basically six games.
So to me, the floor is four and eight, the
ceiling is ten and two. There are six games. Then
that your season South Carolina at home, at Old Miss
at Florida, Auburn at home at Tennessee, Louisville at home.
(08:11):
I don't think you can put Louisville into them. We're
definitely gonna win, like we could for many years. I
look at those six games, Ryan, and I say, you
could win any of them. There's not one of those
games that I won't go into and think they got
a chance to win. But you could lose any of them. Right,
There's not one of those games that I would go
(08:31):
into and say, well, we're definitely winning this. So the
fact that there is such a fluctuation between what they
can do this year, whereas in most years we think
we know what they're going to do in nine of
the twelve games. I think makes this a really exciting
but nerve racking season.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
No doubt about it. And so this is one of
those years where you you need to take care of
business at home. You gotta beat South Carolina, Auburn, and
Louisville at home.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Let's rank, let's rank the games those six in terms
of difficulty. To me, South Carolina is the easiest. You
have to win that game. The second game of the
season is, in my opinion, the most important game of
the year.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
The last two years they've got Kentucky. Kentucky, you should
have won those. It's week two. You lose that, and
I think a lot of the excitement of what can
be done with the season if we take a big
hit right away.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
If you don't win that one at home, you have
to win that game. Then. I think the second easiest
for me is probably Auburn, which is odd to say,
but I still don't think Auburn has It's not the
Auburn we think of.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
They just barely edge Kentucky out in the preseason poll.
They're just right above them in a couple of votes.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Then I'm musa say Louisville because it's at home, they
don't play anybody all year. They could come into this
game ten to one and I still think we're gonna
beat them, all right. Then I'm gonna say at Florida
because I think Florida'll be better but their schedule so
hard this year. And then I'm gonna say at Tennessee.
Actually I'm gonna say at oh Miss because I don't
(09:55):
pick us to beat Tennessee unless we do. And then
the hardest at Tennessee. Would you disagree with any of them?
Speaker 5 (10:01):
That's exactly how I would rank it. There's no doubt
that road game at Tennessee out of the sixth, to me,
is the hardest till you proved me you can win
down there. To win at Ole Miss will be extremely,
extremely hard. Ole Miss. We had that game two years
ago and they kind of took it away from us.
But that's but they're good. I mean, they're they're top
ten for a reason.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Why did those guys walk out? I don't know, don't
I mean, go see tell them they welcome in, Like,
what are they doing?
Speaker 6 (10:22):
I don't think they liked our rankings. They just turned around.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
Yeah, but I mean maybe they were scared. I don't
know what they I don't know what they were doing.
They say were here, they come here, they come all right,
So I'm gonna cheer when they Is there anything that
you do you disagree with any of it? Uh?
Speaker 6 (10:36):
Ole Miss could potentially be in the same Georgia Texas realm.
They're gonna be top ten. I think they're seventh in
the coach's poll.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Do you believe that? Like it will still Old Miss?
Speaker 6 (10:46):
I know they loaded up though. The good thing is
Kentucky historically has played them close every year, even you know,
you lose one on a touchdown throw here and Likesadon
last year had to play taken away. So I guess
Tennessee is historically, you know, we get kill about them
every single year. So I guess I could give just
if you're looking backwards, maybe put Tennessee above All Miss.
But All Miss will be a better team than Tennessee.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
All right, So then now let's do and we'll do
this again right before it starts, but a month out
before we've really heard a ton about camp et cetera
giving me the win or let's let's you everybody agrees
we win the four Steaky games, we lose to Georgia
and Texas. Right, anybody disagree with that? No, Channon, disagree.
Speaker 7 (11:28):
You?
Speaker 4 (11:28):
All right? So then I'm gonna go through win or
lose South Carolina. I say when? When? When? When got
to Auburn? When when I'm gonna say win? Louisville? When
when I'm gonna say win? So now we are at
we are at seven? Okay, and that's the same seven,
Like that's the to me, that's the seven. You gotta
get to have a minimum happy season, all right. Now,
(11:51):
let's gett it gets hard yep? Okay. At Florida, now
I know it's easy to go. We've beaten them all
these years. It's still Florida Swamp. It's the swamp.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
We are playing them later in the year this year,
usually playing them right at Trick. What do you think
I'm gonna say when? But I'm not, you know, going
in expecting it for this exercise. I'll say when. That's
gonna be a tough When Kentucky is the better team.
Florida is actually below Kentucky in the preseason polls. But
you're going on the road in the SEC. That's never easy.
I don't care where you're headed.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
Right, if there's one road game you could got a chance,
I think can win it. It's that one. So that's
the only road game I think Kentucky share.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Kentucky wins it. They're a better program than Florida is now.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
So while I said the most important game of the
year is South Carolina because it is, it's hard to
see having a good year and losing that one. To me,
the game that will decide for Matthew Harper Jones whether
or not this was a good year as the Florida win.
Because we're better than Florida, Yes, And I don't know
if we're better than the other four teams we're gonna
(12:54):
talk about, but we're better than them. I think there's
a difference in our fans mind between evan in five
and eight and four. Almost feel like that's where your
mind flips. Do you know what I mean by that?
Seven and four seems average, but our seven to five
to eight and four seems better. I'm gonna pick us,
but I'm like Drew, I don't. I don't love it, old.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Miss I say loss like said.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Year, Yeah, I'm gonna say lost in Tennessee. I'm not
picking us to beat Tennessee. I can't. I mean, they
just see it happens too much. Drew, will you do it?
Speaker 6 (13:28):
I mean I will on that Friday when I get excited.
But right now I'm saying, Shannon.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
If Kentucky is gonna pull off an upset over the
four teams with the four toughest games, I think this.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Is the one they have.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
I think Tennessee is the one. Yes, we did win there,
what was that four years ago? Beat him, beat him
pretty good. So that would mean all of us kind
of have Kentucky at eight.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
And four eight and four.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
And what's crazy to me is I think we can
be eight and four, only one game better than last year,
but be significantly better, be a significantly better foot team,
and only have a one one game better record.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
We just all have to train our brains that you know,
the ten win seasons are eight and nine is what
we were looking at, a nine and ten a few
years ago. Because the schedules has got so much harder
this year, and then when you're adding, uh, maybe a
ninth game moving forward, the eight and four is I'm
ready to start having parades, especially if the schedule looks
the way it does this show.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
And let me also say this, let me throw one
more thing in. We just said that there's eight games
that we think they will win. If they can win
one more, they might be in the playoffs. At the
playoff talk one more. Yep, you look at that old
Miss Texas Tennessee game. If you win the ones we
predict when one of those, we might be in the playoff.
(14:41):
So this season has such a feast or famine possibility
that I think it's gonna be really interesting. If I'm
nine two eighty seven, we're gonna take your calls. I
have to talk about the event in the Olympics that
I just realized that is the craziest one so far.
And we will take a break. Be right back. Its
Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tekey Sports Radio. Remember if
(15:07):
you have questions A five nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven text machine seven seven two seven to
seven four five two five four. Serbia leads Australia by
one point with thirty seconds to go in the basketball quarterfinals.
I think the US plays.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
Later today three o'clock. I think today three o'clock.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
So the USA plays who do they play Puerto Rican
or No?
Speaker 7 (15:25):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Brazil?
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Brazil?
Speaker 4 (15:26):
Yeah they play Brazil. Yeah, that's who they play. Uh what?
One person writes, Matt, I agree with you on all this,
but I'm glad we don't play Missouri this year because
they're actually preseason number eleven. I'd still want to play
Missouri though in Texas, wouldn't you? Oh, Missouri and Texas.
Speaker 6 (15:42):
Yeah, but Missouri is much better than they were all
those years when we went like seven straighters off the crazy.
They since stealing that one in Lexington. They've really had
a great run.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
They have, all Right, So this is the event that
I think is insane. Okay, do you know what the
modern pentathlon is?
Speaker 5 (15:57):
I mean, I know the word, but I'm sure what
the events?
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Do you know at the modern pentathlon? Shannon? Do you
know what it is? No? This is an event in
the Olympics. It's the best at a combination of running,
okay makes sense, right, jumping makes sense? Shooting, yeah, okay,
that's a little weird, right, Swimming and equestrian.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
I knew all those, but swimming. I didn't know swimming
was included in all that.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
And so think about that.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Good grief.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Apparently it goes back to who is the best at
things you would do as a soldier, because as a
soldier you might have to do all of those things.
But it's just hard for me to see the same
person who rides a horse, like doing the high jump.
Isn't that a weird sport? And I learned that when
(16:51):
it comes to the horse part, unlike other equestrian where
you get to bring your own horse, you get drawn
and you just get given old off your soldier.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
You're running, you swim and then like when you're wet,
you jump on the horse.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
It's not a race. It's like the decathlon. You do
five different sports and add up the points, so it's
not a race, but like it's you just get drawn
a horse. And apparently in the last Olympics the horses
just kept throwing everybody off because they didn't like having
I don't know if they just got horses off the
street or if they were horses, but that is an
(17:28):
event in the Olympic.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
What are the strategies? You just try to be really
good at one of them, or you divide all your
time across all of them to practice because you've got
to be a great athlete to do all of those.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
And what body type? What body type would be good
at all that? Would you want to be tall and skinny?
Would you want to be short? And I mean probably
don't want to be short and fat, But like you,
I mean what what would be the body type that
would make you be able to do all those things?
Speaker 6 (17:49):
It's certainly not mine. I would not do well on that.
I would say you have to be very fit. I
don't know about height and length if you need that,
but obviously vary in shape.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
But apparently this may be the last time they ever
do it. It's not on the schedule for the LA
Olympics because of the horse issue, because apparently the horses
just it didn't work last time, so as of now
it is not on the next Olympics schedule.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
That's what puzzles me the most. You don't get to
pick your own horse. You just have random horse. You
may be the leader and get some horse that's just
that day decides.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
I could get it like a drunk horse or some course.
Speaker 5 (18:20):
Yeah, maybe stayed out way let too late last night.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
I just I found that. I think that event, by
the way, is going on now is as it goes
all right, so Shannon, who's up first and start with Doug. Doug,
how are you, Doug oh Man?
Speaker 6 (18:32):
This question is for you.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
My favorite all time KOs Our show was when you
were talking about your last European vacation and I think
you went through Luxembourg.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
I slipped in a woman's backyard in Luxembourg. Yeah, that
was the.
Speaker 8 (18:46):
Last That's what I was going to ask you if
you fell in any backyard.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
No, I didn't. I was a little more careful. Probably
the weirdest interaction I had. I appreciate the call is
you know you all make fun of me for that
when I was kidding that one time and I said
I knew more than the Internet. Remember that away again? Yeah,
well I met a real person who actually believed it
and really made my head want to explode. I was
(19:13):
in London and I was in a hurry. I had
to meet somebody at night, and I was coming from
the airport. And if you've ever been to London, the
Heathrow airport is like an hour away from the city.
It's a long taxi ride getting this taxi. This dude's
really nice. He's talking to me British voice. You know,
I don't know about you. I kind of liked people
with British voices. They just seem like they seem smarter,
(19:33):
I think when they talk, and I just I liked him.
And then all of a sudden, I was looking at
my little app, and you know, there's such terrible traffic,
and the way it was saying to go, he was
not going that way, and we just kept getting caught
in traffic. So after the first time, I let it go.
After the second time, I let it go. And then
I go, hey, man, cause I notice he doesn't have
(19:54):
a traffic app up. I go, hey, uh, you know
you you use ways or do you use like Google
Maps or whatever? And he said, I don't use the internet.
I went, oh, okay, Well my app is saying there's
a wreck up here, maybe we should go around it.
And he goes, there's no wreck, and I said, well,
(20:19):
I think there is, and he was like, there's not.
And I showed him. I said here it says that,
and he goes, there's no way it could know that.
And I said, what do you mean there's no way
it could know it? He said, there's no way it
could know it. I've been driving in London for thirty years.
I think I know the traffic. And at this point
I'm like, well, I'm sure you do know the traffic, sir,
(20:42):
but this knows it's a wreck. And he said there's
no wreck. Well, of course we get up there, there's
a wreck and we're stuck. And I said, again, don't
mean to be rude, but like, you want to look
at this, and he goes, let me ask you a question,
mister internet. That's what he said. He goes, let me
ask you a question, mister Internet. What are you gonna
(21:03):
do when computers go down one day? And I said, well,
I don't know, but they're working today and so today,
why don't we use them to go wherever? And he
refused and he said there's no app that knows more
than me about London traffic. And I you know what,
(21:25):
there comes a point, Drew, you don't really have an
answer to that. What are you gonna say? You just go?
So we ended up being like one hundred and fifty
dollars cab ride because the dude would not go whatever.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
Yeah, I use ways going just across the Lexidon on routes.
I know for that reason because it tells me things
that I don't know what's in front of me?
Speaker 4 (21:44):
He said, there's no way it could know there's a wreck,
and I was like, yes, you think it just guessed.
I mean clearly it knew, and he just Ryan, he
just did not buy it.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
You didn't give him, My man, my man.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Well, I mean he's he's controlling the car or what
am I gonna do it? At that point, here is Mercy.
So who's next.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Let's go to Marshall.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
Marshall, I got about forty seconds. Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (22:08):
Hey, I just want to oh wait, first time on time?
Speaker 4 (22:10):
Who are.
Speaker 9 (22:13):
I just want to say how much I appreciate you guys.
I've been listening since middle school. I'm twenty years old now,
y'all have such a big part of my life.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Well, thank you, man. That's very nice of you.
Speaker 9 (22:23):
Y'all have such a big impact on just the little
things like besides my Lord and Savory Jesus Christ, like,
y'all are something I can listen to every single day.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
Thank you very much. We got like ten seconds. Did
you have a question.
Speaker 9 (22:36):
I think it's ironic how we finally played Florida in
the winter and we don't have good running backs.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Well, that is true. You know, we always play them
in the spring. Thank you very much, sir, by the way,
I appreciate it. We did that. That is crazy that
we do always end up doing that. Australia hits a
shot at the buzzer and it looks like Australia is
going to beat Serbia? Was it Patty Mill? Tod Oh,
it's I'm like that British announcer. Very back are TJ.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Smith?
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay?
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. A five nine twenty two
eighty seven. Got Shannon, Ryan Drew and myself here. They
just they picked the Democratic vice president. Had you ever
heard of him? Ran?
Speaker 5 (23:23):
I did not know. I just knew there was a
dude from Pennsylvania, a dude from Minnesota, and Andy.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
It was the dude from Minnesota, Tim Walls. He was.
He used to be a high school social studies teacher,
like your dad, Just like my dad. He used to
coach football.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
Just well, my dad was a high school coach.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
So he used to coach football. I could give you
all this policy and all that stuff, but I want
to give you the fact Drew that will make you
like him the most.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
I didn't know the difference between him and Jeff Walls
for Halloween.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
For Halloween five straight years when he was do you
know what he dressed up as I do not Chris
Farley's man down by the rif I might.
Speaker 6 (24:01):
Have a Canadate, I like, for the first time ever,
big Chris Farley got.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
He kind of looks, to be honest with you, he
kind of looks like and he put his belly and
I haven't seen a picture of him doing it yet,
but I did read for five straight years he was
the man down by the River for Halloween, which I
think if he's at the Democratic Convention, he's got to
show up on that. And he was like, you know,
I'm thrice divorced. He Shannon his his dirty laundry looks
(24:29):
to be like he got a d U I once
and when he got pulled over said he was somebody
else like that dude, not me. We did the shaggy
defense wasn't me but so well to a debate as
Matt motivational speakers, pulling up his pants to his legs
like that, I think he should so there you go.
(24:50):
They so we won't go to Chicago because Andy didn't
get picked apparently, and according to the reports, Andy was third.
Who was the governor of Pennsylvania. U then Andy coming in?
Speaker 6 (25:01):
So this I hope I never learned anything else about
this guy. It just thought he was Meanto. That's all
he needs for you.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
This guy's governor of Minnesota right now?
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Governor of Minnesota? Yes, had you ever heard of him
before this? No? Okay, no, have you heard of him? Now?
What's his name? I just said it, Tim Walls. Well done, sir.
I feel like during the break you got you you
gotta get smart, and during the break, well, I wouldn't
say that I did hear while I was gone, Shannon,
you picked up pickleball?
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Oh yep, I did. I did. I played it actually
a couple of nights ago. And I hate to tell you,
Matt kind of like it. It's kind of fun.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
You know, I knew you were a dork.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Why is that a dork? It's an athletic event.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
It's it's not a no, it's not an athletic event.
It's a faux athletic event where you like act like
you're an athlete. You I mean I don't understand why
you would betray me like that.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Look, I mean T Mobile was T Mobile Tuesday. They
gave me free pickleball paddles and a bar.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Hang on, what is T mobile Tuesday pickle.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
We've talked about this before.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
So T Mobile, if you're a subscriber, every Tuesday, they
give you free stuff, free whopper at Burger King or free.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Pizza at Pizza Hut.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Well, a couple of tuesdays ago, it was free pickleball paddles,
and I go, you know what.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Wait, men, you got they gave away a free pickleball
paddle for like you just get to keep it. Yeah,
And I go, well, it's just like a pretty good
I mean, I don't want to play pickleball. That seems
like a pretty good deal paddle away exactly.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
So I go, okay, well it's free. It's right up
the road.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
I'll just go up there and get my paddle and
ball and maybe I'll play and see how it is.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
And I'll played it and I had fun.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
You would too.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
You would love it.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
You would love you would love it, and you would
be good at it because you're good at ping pong
and tennis. This is kind of got.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
I can't ever play it because I I will be
good at it. The one thing I was the best
thing I was good at in tennis was bolli, so
I'll be good at it. But I refuse this. It's
all because of Paul.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Well, forget about Paul.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
You know, it's all I don't want to get. I
had to listen to you would be way too smug.
It's all because of Paul Drew. I can't play.
Speaker 6 (27:04):
You don't give Paul that power over your life. Just
put it aside and go play pickleball like everyone else
in America.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Secretly play. We don't have to tell anybody.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
Somebody'd see me and take a picture. I'm not gonna
I'm I was very disappointed right when I read when
I when somebody told me that Shannon had broken my heart.
It's like Fredo Corleone. You know, he breaks my heart
and I'm up to take him out on the lake
now because he because.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
He did not only played it, enjoys it, and it's
gonna play it a lot more. He's he's one of them.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Now we're gonna get you to turn over to the
dark side. Matt, You're gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
I'm busy that day. Who's up next?
Speaker 3 (27:40):
See? I invite you to do stuffy.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
You don't want to do it without it.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
And you're moving too, right you did you buy a
new house? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (27:47):
I moved.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
I'm back in Bullet County. So now you can say
that's so bad.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
I mean you're oh you're living in Bullet County now?
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:55):
What happened while you were gone? Mountain dew across the board?
Speaker 3 (27:58):
All right, what's next, Andrew?
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Andrew? Go ahead, Andrew?
Speaker 7 (28:03):
So my take on the Wednesday and vacated in twenty one.
I know I rushed that field during the Florida game,
and I have and I know I got stung by
all those bees. And my buddy has a talented through it.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
That's right. You were the guy for people who don't remember.
You were the guy who after we who was it.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
We beat Florida?
Speaker 4 (28:28):
After we beat Florida, you stormed the field and then
you went outside and your buddy's car was filled with
bees and you got stung. I remember that.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
Yeah, and then my buddy got a tattoo with a
B with the UK helmet and the score of the
game on his arm.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
Wait a minute, hang, I've seen the tattoo you have?
Speaker 4 (28:46):
I have? Will you send that again, Daniel, I'd like
to see that the tattoo with a bee, it's a
B with a UK helmet on.
Speaker 7 (28:54):
Yeah, I have, I have him. Send it to Drew
or Ryan. I think he has Ryan.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Yeah, send it to Ryan's phone. People should always send
stuff to phone. Yeah. So okay, Well, I'm with you
and I appreciate the call. I mean, they can vacate
those games. We know they happen, yes, right, I mean
the only people who will even care probably Louisville fans
because we made fun of them for getting their title vacated.
But they still act like they won the title. Ryan,
(29:22):
I mean, I'm it's not like you're gonna act like
that Citrus Bowl didn't happen, is it? Really?
Speaker 5 (29:26):
It only affects what Mark Stoop's Wikipedia page and our
ability to make fun of Louisville.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
I think it's it will affect the fact that like
they won't be able to say and they won't be
able to show the Citrus Bowl trophy right, Like they
won't because because Mitch will not push the envelope at all,
So like there'll be no mention of that team which
is a shame because that's one Dell, that's Will Levis,
you know, that's Chris Rodriganz that that's a team of
(29:52):
guys we love. But that'll be really the impact.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
That Bowl game had a crazy ending in them driving
the field and one Dell juke and that guy out
of his shoe. Yeah, I can't take that away from me.
I'll remember that. I don't have to pay back those
bets that I've already won. It all happened.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Yeah, but it is. I mean, it is a bummer.
I don't think it will I mean, long term, I
don't think it matters. But it is a bummer. Who's
up next?
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Radio Ron?
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Radio Ron? How are you?
Speaker 8 (30:19):
I am eighty nine and I'm fine, man, good. I
want to say good morning to all you guys, but
I had to call in and say welcome.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
Back, Thank you very much. Ron.
Speaker 8 (30:32):
And guess what took place this past Saturday.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Let me guess, because I know what we hear from you.
The Kentucky Senior Games. And let me guess you were
in them and you won a bunch of events.
Speaker 8 (30:44):
That's right, man, I entered all the sprints, fifty one hundred,
two hundred four hundred and then the disco shot put hammer,
and I finished.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Wait a minute, Ron, you can't do the hammer throw
where you spin it right?
Speaker 10 (31:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (31:01):
You spent around and you let it go. They disqualified
me once bad because I went out of the ring
and in the front instead of the back. He said,
mister Chiltern, New York.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
To ask you sometimes, I want to ask you sometimes.
What is your one hundred meter time.
Speaker 8 (31:19):
In eighteen five?
Speaker 4 (31:22):
Okay, that's pretty good. What about your four hundred meter time?
Speaker 8 (31:28):
Oh that's a little about three and a half minutes, okay.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
And then how far do you throw the discus?
Speaker 8 (31:40):
I throw the discs forty five feet and that's not
too bad.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Is that? Is that the actual disc you throw? An
actual discus forty five feet? Is that like a senior discus?
Speaker 8 (31:54):
Well, they do have various weights for seniors, so mine
is a little lighter, but it's it looks like a
dish to me. And I let it go and I
had so much.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
That is very awesome. Good for you. And did you
win all those events or is there another person coming?
Gold medals?
Speaker 8 (32:12):
Can gold medals?
Speaker 4 (32:16):
But did you have did you have any competition? No?
Speaker 8 (32:20):
I wanted to tell you because you always asked, I
am the oldest and the last guy in my age category,
Well that.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
You deserve to go battle for perseverance regardless. And seriously,
well I kid you about it at eighty nine years old.
To go out there and do the events and throw
the discus and and spin around with a hammer, that
is awesome.
Speaker 8 (32:44):
One final thing met you know where? They were held
at the Harry Stevenson Sports Field on the Transylvania campus.
I knew you'd love that.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Yeah, I remember you remember, Yes, I appreciate the call. Run. Yes.
Harry Stevenson when I was in college, would ref the
innermural football games. You could always smell a little hint
of bourbon on him when he did it, and he
loved to throw people out of the game. There was
one that Harry Stevenson would throw four to five players
out every single game.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
We give Ron a little hard time not have a competition,
but I think people are just afraid to sign up
and go against him.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
I would know the fields out there with a throw
and he said he threw it the wrong way. I
feel a little bit scared. Uh, I'd be a little
bit scared as well. We're gonna be broadcasting Friday at
a Vision Glass at three point thirty three Sequoia Drive
in Hopkinsville to celebrate its grand opening. That's three thirty
three Sequoia Drive. They sponsor the text machine. They're great.
(33:40):
They have sixteen locations. They help prepare your glass, repair needs,
cracked windshield, whatever, a vision Auto glass that's a v
I z io n Glass dot com. There's one near you.
And if you're in Hopkinsville, come on out and see
us on Friday. We'll take a break right back. It's KSR. Yeah,
who is this?
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Shannon black Eyed Peas.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Black Eyed Peace? All right? Well good? Who is the
band that are? Well? These guys in uh at Kentucky
Wesley would help me. Who's is it? I don't want
to say it because I'm gonna pronounce it wrong. What who?
How do you say? C H A P P E
l R O A N chapel rone Who is that?
(34:23):
You all don't know? Well if you don't know, I
shouldn't know. They're like, it's I see these huge crowds
they get, they get chapel roon, they get these massive
crowds everywhere. They were at Lollapalooza and they had too
many people and like they almost ran out of water.
Did you not see this story? And everybody was going
crazy for Chapel Rone Chapel Roan, And.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
It's just a person.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
It's a band.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
Yeah, all right, well it's a good person. You should
play Is it male or female? All right, so it's
a female singer, Chapel Roone. You can play I guess
one of their songs. But apparently had so many people
there that like it was it was out of control. Wow,
because they're so popular. Again, another person that I don't
(35:06):
know who it is. And somebody when I was in Italy,
somebody goes, you know, is everybody in America love Sabrina Carpenter?
And I was like they might. I mean, I'm not sure.
I guess they can do. I don't know.
Speaker 6 (35:23):
I never feel older than when TMZ starts talking about
or some tweet comes across with news of some artists.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
I've never heard of it.
Speaker 6 (35:29):
If they have a million, never on my radar.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
If I'm not two eight twenty two eighty seven, one
person says, mad I saw in the news when people
were shooting water guns at tourists in Barcelona. Did you
see them and did they shoot at you? I did
see them.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
Did you see them?
Speaker 4 (35:46):
We were there that day and I saw them gathering
to protest tourists. They did not. It was me. I'd
be in Sarah. They did not shoot them at us,
but we saw them. And where the video was where
they shot people was probably a block from us. So
we we just missed being the ones to get shot
with water guns for for being, you know, tourists.
Speaker 11 (36:06):
How'd you guys get around in Spain? Hubby's wife drove, Yeah,
she's wonderful. It was an adventure. You know, gotta drive
a stick. A lot of roundabouts, a lot of round about,
a lot of roundabouts. You gotta get used to the roundabouts.
If you're not used to roundabouts, that's different. And then
you know all the signs, all the signs are in Spanish.
(36:29):
That can be a little bit of a That can
be a little bit of a test.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Can't believe you allowed somebody else to drive you.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
I didn't really have a choice. It wasn't really a choice.
But I can't drive a stick, So what am I
gonna do? Like? I can't? You know, I never learned
she wanted to drive, and ninety percent of time, it
was great. Ten percent of the time was a little
bit stressful. I'm not gonna lie to you, you know something.
But but that's okay. It worked out well.
Speaker 5 (36:55):
Were you a good back seat driver?
Speaker 4 (36:57):
I didn't say a word. Now they may have said
words to each other. I didn't say a word. I
was like, I'm just gonna sit back here and enjoy.
But she did a good job. And it was Imagine
you haven't driven a stick in fifteen years. Anybody who
knows how to drive a stick can tell you if
hills are difficult, right, And in part of Spain they're
(37:18):
big hills.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
And they all drive little tiny cars, like they don't
drive the trucks and SUVs. They drive these little tiny cars.
So because of that, their parking spots are tiny and narrow.
And if you're trying to get in and out of
there with a stick shift and you don't really you're
not totally comfortable with it. There's a lot of back
(37:41):
and forth and back and forth, and then the Spanish
people are not very patient. They're honking and but we
got through it and it was fun. We only took
us an hour and a half to figure out where
at the Madrid Airport to drop off our rental car.
It was like the scene in National Lampoons. Look, kids,
Big Ben. We just kept sucking around and around and around.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
Well, yeah, unless there's a picture on a sign, how
would you know where to take that.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
You don't have these apps which people taught me before
I left, that you can take a picture of something.
It's Google Translate, so you can take a picture of
something and then it'll translate it from that language to English.
But it's hard to take a picture when you're driving
down the road. It's hard to take a picture of
the sign and figure out what it is. So it
was it was a little a little difficult. Who's next, Lynn, Lynn?
(38:27):
Go ahead, Lynn?
Speaker 10 (38:29):
Hi, Matt, how you doing good?
Speaker 4 (38:31):
What's going on?
Speaker 10 (38:33):
Well, first of all, welcome back. It sounds like you
had a great trip and you recharge your batteries.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
I did, and uh, I'm out.
Speaker 10 (38:41):
I'm retired out of the business world, and I'm going
to tell you what. One of the things I would
judge leaders on was how good the people they surrounded
themselves with were. And your guys did a fantastic job.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
Glad to hear that.
Speaker 10 (38:55):
There's a lot of fun. Hey, I got a question today, Uh, Olympics,
both Summer and Winter Olympics. If you guys were to
add an event or two to each summer and winter
Olympic game, what would you do? For instance, in the winter,
I'd do team snowball fight and in the summer, I'd
(39:17):
do individual belly flopping.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Okay, so you're you with those kind of sports. I
appreciate it. I don't know, I was thinking of actually
oddly thinking about this, what you could add to the Olympics.
I think it would be good to do. They used
to do this in car racing back in the day,
some of you all may remember Iraq, and basically they
would take twenty drivers from all different things, give them
a car that was exactly the same and do a race.
(39:40):
So I think it would be cool if you did
that in the Olympics, right Like you could take American
F one drivers all that, give them all the exact
same car and then have a race and do auto racing.
I think, Ryan, that would be interesting, that.
Speaker 5 (39:53):
Would be very interesting. I think for you you would
pick a sport like getting out of traffic, getting out
of traffic jam, the best.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Dude, the best at leaving an event, early got out
of Pearl Jam in Barcelona way before everybody else.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Yeah, oh yeah, you didn't even talk about that.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Yeah, Win saw Pearl Jam. That's awesome, absolutely awesome. I
mean that was that was a top five concert. I
mean we were in Barcelona. We just I realized, Oh,
Pearl Jam's playing here tomorrow. We buy tickets. It's up
on the top if the Olympics in Barcelona. The stadium
(40:30):
was on top of a mountain that overlooks the city,
so it was up there and he played like every
song I like, including like just Breathe is maybe one
of my five favorite songs of all time. He plays it.
He's wearing a Chicago Bears Walter Payton jersey. It was
almost like he made the concert for me. And then
(40:50):
in Barcelona and it was just it was awesome. I
saw the Food Fighters seven years ago in Budapest and
got to see Pearl Jam in Barcelona.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Did you also go to Five Finger Death Punch?
Speaker 4 (41:00):
So I was walking down the street in Frankfurt, Germany,
and I look up and I see all these goth
looking people going to a concert, and I'm like, I
wonder where those people are going. Then I see Five
Finger Death Punch t shirts and I realized it's five
finger Death Punch is playing here. Of course, for people
who don't remember, Chris kle Is from Lexington is a
(41:20):
fan of KSR. I text him and I say, are
you in Frankfort. He says, yes, come through, gives me
a ticket. Germans loved their heavy metal. I mean it
was wild, wild, people like wild, and I'm sitting there
by myself. He invites me backstage. That was I mean,
(41:43):
that's not my kind of music. But he was so
nice and it was so cool to watch people that
into it that I had an absolute blass because.
Speaker 5 (41:50):
One of the few times you called us, you were
so excited you ran into Chris Casill.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
So nice, and then me asked me about you guys,
like he's such a nice guy, and like they just
Germans love heavy bat like they are into it, and
that combination was a really really cool and similar huge
over there. It's huge when we come back. There was
an nil decision in a court case that I think
(42:14):
sets up college sports for the next decade, and I
don't know if everybody knows the details. We will talk
about it right after. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
