This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Now here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Welcome everyone, I Kentucky Sports Radio, Monday, August and nineteenth.
I'm Matt Jones here on an absolutely beautiful morning in
for me New York City. We got Ryan and Drew
in Lexington, Shannon is in Louisville, and you give show
on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. That's eight five
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision
(00:57):
Auto Glass text machine is seven seven two four five
two five four In this edition sponsored by the TJ.
Smith Love as you call TJ. He'll make them pay, Ryan,
it is a beautiful skyline here in New York. I'm
sitting here looking at all the buildings. I just see
a plane overhead. I hope it's as nice in Lexington
as it is here.
Speaker 5 (01:15):
It's kind of a little gray. It's been kind of
gray and rainy all weekend. Yeah, you got out of here,
I think at the right time. We've kind of had
a soggy weekend here in Lexton, including this morning.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Well, I think it's pretty I think it's pretty awesome here.
And you know, we only have two weekends left through
until we're getting football all weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:34):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
First game actually starts Thursday. But it's nice to see
it going now.
Speaker 7 (01:39):
Yeah, it's getting close already. Got a little taste of
what's to come because Abby needed a ride to campus today,
which happens to be moving day. So that was a
lot of fun. But I got to see all the
chaos getting started over there.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yeah, I bet I didn't think about that. Today, Today
and tomorrow. I think our moving days and Ryan, if
you don't spend time in Lexington.
Speaker 6 (01:59):
Moving day, the traffic is awful.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
People don't really know where they're going, you know, they
park their cars in the middle of the street.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
It actually can be a very hectic couple of days.
Speaker 8 (02:08):
You're right.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
For those of us who live in Lexing Dinner spend
a lot of time in Lexington. Moving day, you stay
absolutely as far away from campus as you possibly can
because it is a nightmare.
Speaker 8 (02:16):
It's a zoo. Usually on moving day.
Speaker 7 (02:18):
I'm a good husband. I got her three forces of
the way there. I feel like that's that's seventy enough,
just just a few blocks away.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Yeah, I'm generally of the opinion that you know, as
long as you take your wife three forces of the
way there, if the rest of it's on our own,
that's what marriage is. It is taking them the first
three force of the way there. Then after that, you know,
they do have to be uh, to be independent. But
I'm I'm looking forward to people getting back in school and.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
Kind of getting these seasons going.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
It feels like to me this is one of the
most anticipated football, basketball, women's basketball, baseball combos. I would say, Ryan,
if you throw in all four sports, I'm not sure
I can remember a year where Kentucky fans were this
excited about the group as a whole. You know, usually
you think one of them won't be as good, but
(03:07):
to have this coming school year, in many ways, I
think it will define what is Kentucky football like in
the new SEC, What is the Mark Pope era like?
Speaker 6 (03:18):
What is the Kenny Brooks era like?
Speaker 4 (03:20):
And well the baseball team, was that a one shot
fluky year or is it consistent? It's almost like every
program in some ways is looking at their new future
in the upcoming season.
Speaker 8 (03:31):
Yeah, you know, when you laid it out like that,
you're You're right.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Those It's very rare for it to be this much
excitement over all four of the major sports, and I
think the two new basketball coaches obviously throw a big,
big bolt of excitement into those programs. But with the
baseball team coming off the World Series and the football
team supposed to have one of the best teams, maybe
the best team is the Mark Stoops era.
Speaker 8 (03:50):
There is a lot to be excited about in those
four sports.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
You know, Drew the best team of the Mark Stoops era.
Leads to I love when the this is a good
thing about the new edition to Mario is that clip.
You know, things we say on the show can be
put out there. And then you know a group of
fans who don't listen to us, will get to hear it.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
And that happened to me last night with the with.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
The clip that came from the show out at Shady Rays,
where I said something to the effect of, it's not crazy,
but Kentucky could go to the nine and three in
the playoff, and I laid out why. Now, of course
it didn't, you know, didn't have the few days on
it before where everbody's been yelling at me for saying,
(04:34):
I think they're gonna go seven and five and that's
as good as they can do. This was the hypothetical,
and every fan base in the SEC got a hold
of that video through which in part shows that people
want listen to KSR. I mean, if you ever listened
to a video or watched a video from like an
Auburn radio show ever in your life.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
Never I have things to do, I have no interest
in watching it Auburn video. But I'm glad they all
like watching us.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
They all like watching us.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
And what I learned is especially these fan bases South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee,
those were the three that kind of latched onto it
the most didn't see I don't know if Old Miss
has a fan base because they never respond to anything
but those three. It was interesting to see for all
three of those teams, and I'll throw in Louisville two
to make it four, their fan bases see us, Drew
(05:28):
as their automatic win, right. So when I said in there, okay,
South Carolina would be five, Auburn would be six, and
you don't even have to be that good to win
those games.
Speaker 6 (05:39):
And then I said, next would be Florida, next would
be Louisville.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
The South Carolina, Auburn and Louisville fans see our game
and say, well, we're winning that one, yes, which to
me is crazy, especially Louisville because you haven't beaten us
in forever. But it is interesting, Drew as you're kind
of thinking about, well, of course we should win at
least eight to think that. For those teams you think
you're gonna beat, they look at Kentucky and go, well,
(06:06):
we're gonna win that game.
Speaker 7 (06:08):
You know, we all know Louisville they're not all right
in the head when it comes to confidence about football.
But South Carolina's getting way too chesty after winning the
last two under unique circumstances, after Kentucky was in control
of that rivalry. I don't know why they're so confident
in week two and they still figured out a quarterback
situation gonna come in pretty inexperienced, So I don't understand
where all their confidence is coming from. But it just
(06:29):
adds to how much we want to smack them around
when they get up there in Lexton. We awe them
for punching Ryan last year too, so I hope they
bring that confidence in.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
But I you know, this goes back to the overall
point and some of the conversations we've had about expectations
of the team. You know, we have strong members of
our fan base that's like believe not only should we
win eight nine games, it should be the floor.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
We should expect more.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
But then everybody else in the world ran they don't
look at us like that.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
Now they're delusional too.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
I mean I saw Auburn fans saying they were gonna
win ten games, and I you know, that makes me laugh.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
So they may look at it the same as we
do for us, But I just.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
You know, I don't think we as much as Kentucky
Football's changed in our eyes. It's clear to me, having
looked at the comments on my post, how little it's
changed in other team's eyes. And that's why I think
this year is also important to get wins of all
those programs that I'm talking about.
Speaker 8 (07:27):
Yeah, we've talked about this on the show.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
It's always interesting to get to get the perception of
the outside fan base or outside media. Now the media
a lot of times they recognize Kentucky's program is better
than it used to be, but the fan base still
sees Kentucky as the two.
Speaker 8 (07:40):
And ten, the one and eleven teams from.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
The years past, whereas like Auburn's a great example, they're
not the Auburn of old. Their program has kind of
been down and they're not gonna be that good this year.
But yet they still look at Kentucky like, well, that's
the Kentucky of old we can be.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
They look at it like they're gonna win on the
road here. We're gonna be favored in that game, aren't. Yes, yes,
I mean I.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
Would think we're favored.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
I mean, they could win, but we're I would assume
we're going to be favored in that game. So Shannon
and I decided, as part of this, do you think
you know all twenty four UK starters this year?
Speaker 6 (08:15):
No, No, yeah, I would, and I'm not. That's not
critical of you.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
I think the how what percentage of our audience, Shannon,
do you think knows the name of every UK football starter?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Well, honestly, probably five percent, maybe five percent.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Maybe I think the number is less than that. If
I just said, name all the starters, right right? If
I just said to someone who's listening to this show,
Let's say it's somebody who listens every day, I want
you to name all the starters for UK football. I'm
not sure very many people could do it, I would argue, Shannon.
I'm not sure anyone in the KSR landscape could do it,
(08:53):
except maybe Drew.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
I think Drew could do it.
Speaker 8 (08:56):
Yeah, yeah, Drew, I.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Think you could do it. Do you think Ryan could
have done it before he got his assignment?
Speaker 9 (09:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (09:01):
Last night, Drew.
Speaker 7 (09:03):
If you had put him on the spot, and I
love you, run no chance. I don't think you could
have rattled off now. I'm sure you did your homework,
but I don't know that he could have before.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
You think you could have done it before last night?
Speaker 8 (09:13):
No, I had to call something.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
I could've been. I've been writing about him, I've been
keeping up with camp the college football game probably helps
a lot of people. Honestly, back when that was a
regular game, that's how I knew the rosters across the
whole sport. You know, a lot of times you had
to enter the names yourself. So that's how it really
helps learning. But okay, that's interesting. I hadn't thought about that.
There might be younger people who know it because of
that game.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
So anyway, along those lines, Shannon I thought, I'm gonna
introduce today the starters to the team, and Ryan and
Drew were as signed Shannon to each find a fact
about the starting players. So one of you has offense.
I guess Ryan, you have offense, and Crew has defense.
So we'll go back and forth. Each of you will
(09:56):
do one over the course of the show. So Ryan,
I'll start with you. I assume you start with the
quarterback position. Give me your job was to give me
an interesting fact about each player. I will judge whether
or not it's interesting. But what do you have on
Brock Vandergriff.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
That he has become he's a great leader, like he uh,
the guys really like him. He's a leader, and that's
something that was kind of missing last season from the
quarterback that you know, he when he steps into the huddle,
he's got command of the huddle and people respect him
because he is a great leader. I think that's a
valuable asset he's got bringing to the team this year.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
All right, Shannon, your job is to judge if these
are interesting facts or not.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
Do you think brock fander griff is a leader is
an interesting fact?
Speaker 3 (10:38):
I love you Ryan, you know I do. But no, No,
it's not interesting.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
That's not I mean, it's not the most interesting fact.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
What he does in his spare time, like you know
about as fishing and hunting and all that.
Speaker 8 (10:53):
We already talked about that though I didn't want to
say something we've already talked about.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
It, but we will. I feel like we've talked Shannon
about him being a great leader before.
Speaker 8 (10:58):
We haven't, haven't we not?
Speaker 6 (11:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (11:01):
I don't know if hunter and a fisherman and he
throws Dodgs down.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
You're also saying he's like a tribal leader as well.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
I just think that's good to hear that your quarterback's
a good leader or something we missed last year thought.
Speaker 6 (11:13):
Good fact or bad fact.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Shit, it's a good fact, but it's not an interesting fact.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
Not an interesting factor. Okay. Oh, and one interesting fact,
interesting fact on.
Speaker 7 (11:24):
Defense, I'll add to Brock that he doesn't swear. He
says fudge when he gets mad. I find that to
be unique for a college.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
See, that would have been an interesting fact.
Speaker 7 (11:31):
Shit, I'm helping him out.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
All right, that's okay, But you don't get a point
for ride that was not swearing. Would have been an
interesting fact. All right, you lead off for the first
one on defense, I.
Speaker 7 (11:41):
Will start with the name everyone already knows are All
American defensive tackle Dion Walker. I hope everyone that likes
UK football knows a lot about him. But I would
like to add to the discussion that he was a
high school basketball star who recently tweeted about wanting to
try out for Mark Pope's thirteenth spot in the open tryouts,
and when he's done with football, he wants to follow
(12:03):
the Ryan Lemon path into real estate after his NFL career.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Okay, all right, gotcha, Shannon. Interesting fact.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
I'm gonna give him an interesting fact on that one.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
I think that's an interesting fact.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Did you know he also ran uh when he was fifteen?
He ran the one hundred meters dash.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
How long did it take him to get there?
Speaker 6 (12:23):
Yes, that's a good point him.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
It doesn't say anything to run the I guess the
point is, did you finish right anyone?
Speaker 9 (12:33):
Das?
Speaker 6 (12:34):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (12:34):
All right, so there you go. All right, So I
would say Drew's one for one. Ryan is oh for
one one?
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Ryan? What's your interesting fact about the next player?
Speaker 9 (12:43):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (12:43):
You want to just go, Well, we start with like
the center, We're gonna go kind of go middle out there, you.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
Go go whatever direction you right go? Quarterback?
Speaker 9 (12:51):
All right?
Speaker 8 (12:52):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (12:52):
Eli Cox. This will be his sixth season out of
West Jetsman. He had a red shirt season and of
course they had a COVID season. This is the third
year in a row as a starter. He started at
right guard, then he kind of moved to center last year.
But he's the anchor and he is considered to be
the best offensive lineman on the team.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
All right, interesting facts, Shannon, No.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Look right out of birthday yesterday.
Speaker 10 (13:19):
Okay, I'm gonna give him ay the so far right
for two on interesting facts, Drew, let's do one more
before the break.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
About your defensive interesting fact.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
I'm gonna stay on the defensive line where they're missing
Josiah Hayes a couple others, but Keith Shawn Silvers do
to have a big year. He's from Rocky Mountain High
School shout out Dan from Rocky mount and his nickname
is Big Country with a K and he held a
Big Country football camp this summer. When he's not football camping,
his karaoke song is sitting on the dock of the bay.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
That's a great interesting fact.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
I immediately what was the name player and.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Transformation? But you know what I got it now?
Speaker 4 (14:04):
When I see Keishan Silver, I'm gonna say Shannon Big Country,
And then I'm gonna say to him, would you like
to sit on the dot? Like, well, I'm not gonna
ask him if he wants to sit on the dock
of the baby. I'm not asking me if he likes
that song.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Yeah, maybe he could sing a few bars for you.
You know, it's a karaoke song.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
All right.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
So so far Drew two for two, Ryan over two.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
And I worry about mine because those are two of
my best ones, boy from here, for two of my
best ones for two of your best ones.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Twelve Brock Vandergriff is a leader you thought was one
of the best ones.
Speaker 8 (14:40):
Yeah, well we will have more.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
This should keep you tuned in.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
We'll have more of those facts and a little update
on recruiting the new UK beer and a lot more.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
This is Kentucky Sports Radio, is this? Otis Redding? Is
that who's Yeah? That's it all right, Big Entry, Keyshawn Silver.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
I will tell you who's not getting praise Shannon on
the text machine, and that's yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
I got a great fact about Eli Cows. I knew
it and forgot it. He got married this past off season.
Speaker 6 (15:15):
There you go, OK, well that's better. But she didn't.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
I mean, you can't answer it after a com on
probably someone texted me in said they did.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
That's not it's not a fact.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
If other people are that person gets one, that.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Person getting zero. One person right the other thing. Ryan's
facts are not only not interesting, they're not facts.
Speaker 6 (15:38):
A leader.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Rock Rock Vandergraft being a leader is not it's not
a fact. And Eli Cox being in the best offensive
lineman is also not in a fact.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
Both of those. Shannon our opinion.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
That is true.
Speaker 6 (15:52):
That is true.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
That's a great point.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
I don't have a response to that.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
Yeah, I totally misunderstood assignment I've been trying to really
get football stuff, give you some football info to get
ready for kickoffs.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Why did you think this was going to be talk
football stuff, Drew?
Speaker 6 (16:06):
Have we ever had that as the is what we
did here?
Speaker 7 (16:10):
It's rare, certainly rare. I'm loving the game though. I
think we're off to a great start.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
I think he's doing a really good jobs.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Is gonna make stuff up from here on out to
try to make it interesting?
Speaker 6 (16:20):
No, No, here's what he's doing. He's scrambling trying to
find something interesting.
Speaker 8 (16:24):
Change in the commercial break.
Speaker 6 (16:27):
We'll be the We'll be the gude of that, right,
you hang on all right?
Speaker 4 (16:31):
So the n I L ber So, the nib L
Beer Kentucky Blue Light came out Friday. It was supposed
to stay it or Drew only be released today, but
I don't know exactly what happened, but we ended up
having it at the bar this weekend. We went through
a keg in like a day because people were were
(16:52):
loving it.
Speaker 6 (16:53):
It did very well, so it will be it. Well,
it's gonna be at the bar from now on.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
But we have specials going today through the weekend where
it's three dollars can four dollars pint or whatever. All
you know, the money goes to nil. It's clear people
are into it. I'm told that the few stores that
had it initially they sold out of.
Speaker 6 (17:13):
All of them. So really, this week at the bar
is your chance to really start it.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
But it seems like the goal of trying to raise
money through beer for Kentucky and Ile is off to
a good start.
Speaker 7 (17:26):
Drew on Friday, I went to KOs bar to do
some other stuff and looked up and saw it was
already tapped, So I had three of them. I helped
float that a little bit. I'm doing my part for
UK Athletics. I did you when you asked the other day.
I don't think I gave a very good review. I
have people still asking me. But I want to make
it clear. It's very like a light pilsner, very drinkable one.
You know, it's not something that's gonna be real heavy.
(17:47):
You might be able to have a couple, maybe a
handful up to you don't drive. But I wanted to
make that clear because people weren't sure exactly what type
of beer it was.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
Yeah, I was.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Told by someone who went it's like a classy or
demure bud locked. That that kind of what it is, right,
class your bud light, I did. You're exactly right. I
know trends true. I'm trying to get to where Mario
can teach me. But that's it's kind of a classier
bud light.
Speaker 6 (18:12):
Ryan, what do you think about that?
Speaker 8 (18:14):
It's it's good.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
I mean it's it's like I compared it more to
a Miller liight than a Buddler. I thought it tasted
a lot like Miller Lite, and people love Miller lights,
so it's gonna be very popular.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
I think it is too.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
So we'll have it at tomorrow all week go test.
You should go take a drink, Shannon, and then you
can go. I'm doing my part. I'm doing my part
and it makes it feel like you're helping us.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
Why that mean we win? We win Saturday you can go.
I did it by drinking the beer at k as well.
That's right.
Speaker 9 (18:40):
You know.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
For people who maybe don't want to pony up uh
and donate to pony, is what your pony get?
Speaker 4 (18:46):
The pony kid bottoms up a pony. Yeah, twenty two
eighty seven. A couple up in line, So give us
a call. I'll take calls next segment. What's your next fact? Ryan,
you're oh for two, let's see what number three is.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
Well, you know we're gonna go middle out, so we
did center, so I'm going to now go left guard.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
And thanks all weird chanting to go middle out right,
Thank you for the I mean I thought he was
gonna do running backs and then wide receivers.
Speaker 6 (19:07):
But it's okay, what do you got?
Speaker 8 (19:09):
Well?
Speaker 5 (19:09):
And thankfully it's Jagger Burton, a guy I've known for
a long time, played at Frederick, known.
Speaker 6 (19:14):
Him since he was like five.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
So he can't come up with an interesting fact about him, Shannon,
I'm worried.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Yeah, come on, what do you got?
Speaker 6 (19:21):
All right?
Speaker 8 (19:21):
His nickname is Moose. They call him Moose.
Speaker 9 (19:24):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
He's a big.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
Lake guy, loves to be out. They live out on
the lake, so he loves being out on the lake.
Lake Harrington his boat like all the time. He played
lacrosse in high school. Uh, and he's got my football fact.
Twenty five starts in a row in games he played.
He missed the Missouri gamele was hurt lest year. He
started twenty five games in a row, but he backed
his natural position at left guard.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
He started twenty five starts in a row in the
games he played.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Yeah, he set out completely set out the Missouri game,
so win healthy, win healthy.
Speaker 8 (19:55):
He started twenty five games in a row. Yes, he drew.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
I've never I heard that explained as a statistic like that.
In the games he plays, he starts, but then he
doesn't play.
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Sometimes he was on a roll there with some fact.
I also had to stop and think a minute about
how he phrased that. But I understand now when he's
not injured.
Speaker 6 (20:14):
And you're the judge. Interesting fact, right.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Now, you could have told me like why they call
him moose? That would have been interesting, Like why is
his name moose? I no, it's not interesting.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
I thought you were going to give him that. I
really did. No, you knew him for your Hi.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
Yeah, those are my three best ones.
Speaker 6 (20:37):
All right, Drew Deefits, what's yours? All right?
Speaker 7 (20:40):
I'm staying on the line at defensive end. We're looking
at little Trayvon ripkup starting over, Octavius oxen Don, who's
a great backup.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Was that a.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Surprise, by the way that that is right now starting
to you they're so deep?
Speaker 7 (20:53):
Not really because he's been awesome, but I mean, have
Oxen Don right behind him. That's a that's a good
too deep there. Uh, he's a senior, played an eleven
of thirteen games, and you know he's lined up next
to Big Country and his nickname is Chunky, which makes
it very impressive that outside of football he likes to
play tennis. In longboard, I don't even really know what
longboard real longboards?
Speaker 6 (21:14):
Yeah? Is that just surfing with a long board?
Speaker 7 (21:16):
I think it's Uh, is it like skateboarding with a
long I really don't know. I doubt surfing being in
lexingbar baby surf.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
Where do he grow up?
Speaker 7 (21:25):
That's a great question. I should have that.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Okay, longboarding, Yeah, yeah, it's just it's rollerboarding or skateboarding basically.
Speaker 6 (21:33):
But it's no he is.
Speaker 7 (21:34):
From Tennessee, which also isn't near a body of water.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Him to surf a lot if he's from Tennessee. But pounds,
I want to see him play tennis, Chunky. He also
plays tennis at three hundred pounds in law boards. Uh, Shannon, interesting.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Fact, I'm going to go interesting just what longboarding is.
Speaker 7 (21:53):
And because we only have you know, Mark Stoop's little
three four guy, that's our that's our whole defensive line.
So everyone just remember Big Dion, Big Country, and Chunky
are are starts of it.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
I'm not calling a girl man Chunky if whether he
likes it or not, I need to know him before
I know.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
That I do that.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Who's up first, Andy?
Speaker 6 (22:10):
Andy got a minute? Go ahead? Okay?
Speaker 11 (22:13):
I had two questions. I'll just go with one. If
Kentucky football this year finishes with any other record other
than seven and five or eight and four, there's gonna
be a negative or positive reaction either way. What chances
you think Mark Stoups is here next year.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
Either one of them? I don't think.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
I don't think the record. Whether Mark Stoops is here
next year or not, I don't think the record will
have anything to do with it. I mean, they would
not let him go. I don't care if he won
four games, So if he were decide to coach here
or not, it will be on his own decision whether
or not. I think he's gonna be here. I think
he will, but it wouldn't shot me if he's not.
But I don't think his record will be what will
(22:54):
determine it or not? Now the fan base's opinion will
change based on it, but he will be here. I
think if he wants to be no matter what, we'll
take a break.
Speaker 6 (23:02):
Be right back. It skas TJ.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make him pay.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. It is really amazing Ryan
that it was only what two years ago that like
you couldn't have alcohol the UK sporting events? Yeah, and
now two years later not like can you have it?
We have a UK nil beer. Like like the change,
and you know, Mitch Bartenhardt had to like kind of
(23:34):
you know, he doesn't love it, but it just shows
how the landscape has changed so quickly.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
Times are changing.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
And you're right, he was the one reason he was not,
you know, in favor of having alcohol at UK athletic events,
and I think it took a while obviously took a
while for him to change his mind about it.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
It is crazy. I mean you can now buy beer
to pay players. I mean if we had have said
this just a few years ago, you've been like what yeah, now, Minch.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
Bart it's gonna be like, look, I'm gonna need you
to go on draft Kings and buy beer to pay
our players so that we can keep going with amateurism.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
Is that possible? Can we go ahead and do that?
Speaker 4 (24:10):
Like it's It is drew amazing in such a little time.
How the fundamental idea of what college sports was, and
in my opinion, it was antiquated and needed to change.
But the fundamental idea of what it was has changed
completely overnight.
Speaker 6 (24:28):
It's crazy.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
Oh, if you went into a coma a year and
a half ago and just woke up, you wouldn't believe
the landscape of college for we've added gambling, drinking nil
all in the two year span.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
It's a party.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
It is a you know what we're saying, it was
a party with Waka Flock that it actually is a party.
One person writes to my wife and I are listening
and we already have a bet on what Ryan's interesting
fact about Dame Key is I hope he pays off
for it.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
Yeah, that's the one he should have the easiest job
with Shannon.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Right now, you would think at Key, I want him
to say that one for last, if you don't mind.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Yeah, we'll see if because he might be over ten
going into that one before we get back to them.
Speaker 6 (25:09):
Actually they announced the exhibition games, Drew.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
I don't know if they did it on purpose, but
they have my daily show radio hosts Alma Mater and
my ESPN show hosts Alma Mater, Kentucky Wesleyan we're playing
in an exhibition game, and then Minnesota University of Minnesota
at what Makanaka or something?
Speaker 6 (25:31):
What's what's the.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
Men Mankato Mancata.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
That's where Myron went to school. And I texted Myron
excited and goes, is this where you went to school?
And he was like, dude, I broke it on your
show two months ago and I didn't realize that that
he did that, Shannon.
Speaker 6 (25:45):
Is that right show? He did?
Speaker 3 (25:47):
He was the first person that we heard it from.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
So he has already talked to the coach and we
Ryan are hosting Minnesota Mancoba's pregame meal at ks Bar,
and now you have to make Kentucky wesley and do
the same thing.
Speaker 8 (26:02):
I'm in it. Yeah, let's do it.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
I think it's all you have to make that happen, Like, okay,
I'm on it.
Speaker 8 (26:06):
I'll work on that.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
Right after I'd finished my fun facts about the offensive players.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
But let me say something about these two teams. Two
years ago Kentucky wesley beat Louisville. But this Minnesota. Yeah,
this Minnesota at Manitoba Drew. They won the national championship
in D two last year and return.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
A lot of their players. So we're good. Like that's
gonna be a real game.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Like you can't you can't fool around with that if
you're playing a national champion Drew.
Speaker 7 (26:33):
Yeah, it's a it's a great addition. When Myron announced it,
we did the Wannie nine, the whole thing, and no
one really ran with it when he reported it on
these airwaves. And now it came out this weekend. Everybody's
acting like it's something new. But I love the addition.
We cow did well agetting some of the local Kentucky teams.
It's this isn't really that, I guess Wesleyan is, but
I love the KSR connection. And we've got to get
(26:54):
Ryan Lemon shirtless behind the bench. I don't know if
Myron will go shirtless in that game, but I think
we start with Ryan. When Wesleyan comes, Well.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
Myron's gonna come to town and go to the game.
He told me.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
Awesome, awesome, and and.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Ryan obviously, so that that is very cool. So I
guess next Shannon, we have to play Bellerman.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
But we've done that.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Drew went to UK, We've played Trancy, so they've kind
of hit all the KSR schools.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
What about Lindsay Wilson. I went there for one year, we.
Speaker 6 (27:18):
Played Western, played Western this year.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
That's Billy's right, yes, UK, So like we're kinda we
kind of all been.
Speaker 8 (27:26):
Played Trancy that couple times of your year after year
after year.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
We played Yeah, right, Ryan, to shut up?
Speaker 4 (27:32):
Duke's not I mean kind of uh Ryan, what's your
fourth attempt at an interesting fact?
Speaker 8 (27:38):
Well, we moved now off to right guard.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
And when you asked the question to start with, could
people answer all the starters? This is probably one position
most people do not know who the starter is because
really they've had quite a battle, Matt between Dylan Ray
and Jalen Farmer. Dylan Ray started like ten games last year,
but Jalen Farmer transferred from Florida.
Speaker 8 (27:56):
I'm going to give the nod to him. I think
he's going to be the starter.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
And the reason are you So you're calling Jalen Farmer
as the starter over Dylan right.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
Correct, I'm calling it, and you know how like Logan
Steinberg was always his reputation was he was mean and nasty.
Speaker 8 (28:10):
That's Jalen Farmer.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
First, Logan Stenberg Stinberg.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Yeah, and Jayleen Farmers reputation is what mean, he's mean
and nasty. Usually there's always one offensive lineman. It's like
nasty mean, that's Jalen Farmer. He's the guy.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
So you're your interesting fact is he's mean?
Speaker 8 (28:28):
Huh yeah, all right, won the job?
Speaker 3 (28:31):
I mean, aren't all lineman?
Speaker 2 (28:34):
There any liman that come up and shake your hand?
Nice to meet you, good sir. I don't think there's
any like nice lineman. So no, not interesting enough?
Speaker 6 (28:44):
Another one?
Speaker 9 (28:44):
No?
Speaker 6 (28:45):
All right?
Speaker 7 (28:45):
Oh for rule, in this exercise, they're all starters, so
that's not really a fact. We're naming the starters.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
Again, I would argue also Shannon an opinion.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Yeah, his mother probably thinks he's very nice.
Speaker 6 (29:00):
All right, Oh for four.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
You're gonna get one though, Ryan, I'm feeling good about it.
Speaker 8 (29:04):
Jane's the last one. If I can't get Dane, it's
but it'll be a bad day.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
All right, So Drew, what about you? What's your fact?
Speaker 7 (29:10):
I'm gonna move to the linebackers.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
Very veteran group.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
We know a lot of them, but they added Jamin
Pop Dumas Johnson Pop being a nickname. A back to
back national champion, he was a first team All American
and a Bucket Award candidate before he got hurt at Georgia.
He's gonna be awesome. But the coolest fact about him
is in high school, he was on a hard Knocks
type documentary on HBO that followed him in his high
school around Baltimore Saint Francis Academy. So before he even
(29:35):
got to Georgia, he was featured on HBO.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
That's that's great.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
So I wonder if you could watch that now, I
would assus cost of winning cost.
Speaker 6 (29:47):
I've actually seen that preview. I've never watched it, but
I saw that on the list. All right, Shannon, interesting fact.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
I'm gonna say it's interresting.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
I feel like he's on HBO.
Speaker 9 (29:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (29:57):
I missed four games with a broken forearm. That's how
he it up in Kentucky. He kind of got passed
over even though he was really good at George.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Do we think there's any reason? So you're right, he
broke his forearm. Do we think there's any reason. A
guy who broke his for him. So it's not like
he tore a ligament in his leg or anything.
Speaker 6 (30:12):
Why don't people.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
Expect him to be just as good as he was
and when he was he was an All American candidate?
Why are we not talking about this guy like he
can be a stud?
Speaker 7 (30:23):
Wasn't just that he was a candidate. In twenty twenty two,
he was a first team All American and was in
the conversation for the Buckets Award. Then last season he
was a preseason first team All Americans junior year than
that injury happened. So I'm with you. I am fired
up about this guy. I mean, it's a forearm. He's
got two of them, I'm sure it. He'll bet he's
been looking good over there. I think it's one of
the we'll see how it pans out, but could be
(30:44):
one of the best portal gets stoops he's ever had.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
So funny.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
You know, as long as you shan't it when you
break your arm, they put a cast on. You know,
it gets little, yeah, right, like it like it shrinks
as long as he's gotten back to normal size. I
feel like this dude, I just feel like we completely
overlooked this guy. If you told me we were going
to get Ryan, a former All American and bring him
in to start on defense, and he played at Georgia
(31:08):
when they won the national championship. I feel like I'm
just kind of shocked that none of us, myself included,
have kind of given this guy his pop.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Yeah, the football people, given the people we had on
this summer, that's the first person they talk about. You know,
we all talk about Brock Vandergrel transferring from Georgia. They
talk about Pop Johnson transferring from Georgia. He They know
how good of a player he is.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
And he wasn't just on their roster that year. He
was healthy. He started all fifteen games and was second
on the team in tackles. Yeah, he wasn't just out there,
he was making the place.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
Making this place. Who's up next, James James? How are you? James?
Speaker 9 (31:43):
Good morning? Go well sir, Hey, I've got y'all. I
want y'all's opinion if I'm trying to look at going
to my first UK football game Oxford game, the Old
Miss game this year, your opinion on.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
How good that have You'd never been to a UK
football game at all or just never been never been.
Speaker 9 (32:03):
I've never been to one period. Been to a lot
of the basketball games at RUP and down in here
in Missouri, but never been to a So.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
My suggestion would be if I were looking at the
UK football schedule and I were saying, never been to
a game, I want to go to one, if I
were gonna rank them. First of all, if you've never
been to a game, I think you should try to
go to one in Lexington.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
Do you have any objection to going to one in Lexington?
Speaker 9 (32:27):
No, it just it's Old Miss is a lot closer
than Lexington.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
I see Oh Miss likely. Well, first of all, ol
Miss is a good one to go to. It it's
it's cool, the tailgating's cool. The atmosphere in the stadium
is not great, but it's fine, and the scene outside
the stadium is maybe the best in the SEC. So
I would say, if you're gonna go to one, that
would make sense. But if I were ranking all the games,
I appreciate the call Drew and I were saying where
(32:50):
would I want to go? For me, the game I'd
want to go to the most is that week to
South Carolina game because I think it's the game of
the season for us.
Speaker 6 (33:00):
In some ways, it's gonna be the first real game
in that stadium.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
It's a three thirty start, right middle of the day,
the pregame atmosphere, and then if we win the postgame atmosphere.
To me, it sets up to be the best environment
that we will have.
Speaker 6 (33:15):
Do you agree with that?
Speaker 7 (33:17):
I do, just because everything you just said the importance
of that game. It's not a night game, but it
might be dark enough that you'll get to see the
new lights and everything they've put in. I'm sure they'll
work it in as best they can, even though it's
a three thirty game. And I mean, hopefully they win
that one. But if they were to lose that one,
some of the games you're excited about on down the
road might lose some of their luster a little bit.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Like if I like, normally I might say Georgia, but
if they lose that South Carolina game, that Georgia's game
is not gonna be as exciting. I think going to
Texas would be interesting if you've never been to Knoxville.
That's a great stadium. I think the Auburn game will
be great in Lexington. But if I were gonna if
I had to pick today, I would pick the South
Carolina game, just because we know that that game will
matter a lot. A new report from the Kentucky Chamber.

voice heard because housing policy is being set now for

(34:21):
chamber dot com slash housing. With the Kentucky Chamber, I'm
gonna test Ryan and Drew and Shannon's uh, what do
you want to call it American knowledge in the second
hour and we'll give you more football.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
Facts or, in Ryan's case, opinions. Here I can.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Warner Mack tell you sports radio A five nine two
eight twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is seven seven
two seven seven four five two five four.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
Some people are arguing they were people.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
Were a little uh, you're saying you were a little
harsh on Ryan's last one. They felt like, when are
the one where they called him chunky? They felt like
that should have been a good fact.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Well that I think that was Drew Drew.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
That's why all right, well that's why Ryan didn't get
credit for h okay fair enough, that makes sense. Hey,
a lot of you wrote me this weekend correctly that
the ads were out of control. On the pudget Friday.
They were like shitting like nine or ten minutes long. Oh,
(35:20):
we've complained they're supposed to be just so people know,
they're supposed to be like two.
Speaker 6 (35:25):
Minutes on podcasts, maybe a minute and a half.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
They for whatever reason, I think they inserted the actual
ads that run during the show and the podcast ads,
which is why they got kind of out of control
this week. There may be a day or two more
where it's a little screwy, but I do think by
middle of the week it should be back to normal.
Speaker 6 (35:45):
So I apologize about that.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
That is annoying that it just keeps they keep Then
they're like you know this and this and then that.
Speaker 6 (35:50):
So I get it. We will, we will get it fixed.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
And thank you all for caring enough to to to
write and to try to ask. But just so you know,
we're we're doing our bit to fix it. It's a
little bit out of our control. The national people now
handle our stuff, and that makes it a little more complicated.
One person writes Matt on the last episode of Fade
This was that ambient Matt, I haven't heard you like
that in years.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
I thought it was an a plus effort.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Drew, I think people like the new Fade This, although
they're acting like I was somehow different in it, and
I feel like I.
Speaker 6 (36:21):
Was the same.
Speaker 7 (36:24):
You were your normal Fade This self. But as Fade
This listeners know, we get a little wacky sometimes we
don't talk sports at all. But got a lot of
great feedback from that first up of the episode. I'm
glad people tuned in and enjoyed it and.
Speaker 6 (36:37):
Had a lot of you subscribe, so thank you for that.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
It is I will say it is a little bit
different than what I do on here. It's a lot
more Yeah, it's a lot more like it was kind
of back in the day. Because I feel like if
you're listening to Fade This, you're actually like a real
fan of ours and not just a hater fan like
some people are. And so I think Drew and I
both are maybe a little more kind of our natural selves.
(37:02):
Ryan Donahue died this morning. Phil Donahue eighty eight years old.
Probably the first modern daytime talk show host for people
like pre Oprah, like Donahue was before Oprah.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
Donahue was when I was a kid.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
When you thought about morning talk shows, you thought about
Donahue like he was what it was.
Speaker 6 (37:21):
He also, you know, would be both serious, he would.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Be goofy, and he was kind of like the whole
you know, Oprah Ellen, Kelly Clarkson, that whole thing.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
Donahue Ryan was the one that started.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
He was the godfather of it, you're right, And his
show was unbelievably popular and you weren't.
Speaker 8 (37:39):
You weren't anybody if you didn't.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
Show up on that show, if you were a singer,
an author, an actor, president.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
I mean presidents would go on there like yeah he was.
It was like the Tonight Show, but during the day.
That's as much more accessible to people back then.
Speaker 8 (37:55):
And you know, I told the story.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
I actually got to ask a question on the Donahue
Show one time, set in the audience and ask a question.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
So really, yeah, yeah, you've told that before you asked
a question on Donnie.
Speaker 6 (38:04):
If you don't have the video, right, I do.
Speaker 8 (38:06):
I've got it on VHS tape in a box somewhere
at my house.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
I have to I'd like to see that, wouldn't you
like to see Ryan Living asking a question on Donnie Hure?
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Was your question more interesting than your football facts?
Speaker 5 (38:18):
Ralph Nader was the guest, and he didn't. He's like you,
he didn't think my question was that interesting either.
Speaker 6 (38:24):
I didn't know you asked a question of Ralph Nader?
Speaker 5 (38:27):
Yes, yeah, what was your question? They were talking about
harmful things to your body? And I said something about, well,
should hospitals always do an X ray on you? You know,
is that also as harmful to your body?
Speaker 6 (38:38):
And you were like a conspiracy. Wow.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
You also ask if masks were effective and like like.
Speaker 8 (38:48):
This was like nineteen eighty six. I think, so this
is wild.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
Well, I want to see that. You gotta find that video.
All right, what's your next interesting fact?
Speaker 8 (38:56):
Well, I think I'm gonna finally win Shannon over with
this one.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Okay, let's see it.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
We'll go to left tackle Marcus Cox. I don't know how,
but this is his seventh season of college fell.
Speaker 8 (39:07):
I do know how.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
He had a red shirt year, he had a COVID year,
and he had an injury year. But I don't know
if Kentucky has ever ever had a starter who was.
Speaker 8 (39:17):
In his seventh season.
Speaker 5 (39:18):
I think this would be probably the first guy to
be the seventh season start. But here's why I think
Staniel like him. He in high school. He was also
a big time wrestler and made it to the state
finals in wrestling as a wrestler.
Speaker 6 (39:30):
That's an interesting fact.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Or no, I think you should have stopped at seven years.
I mean, I think that's more interesting than the fact
that he was a wrestler.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
I'm gonna go half a point.
Speaker 8 (39:40):
Half a.
Speaker 6 (39:43):
Yeah, it's better. I actually think that's it true.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
I will go so far as to say, Drew, I'm
gonna say with confidence, this is the first time we've
ever had a seventh year player. I can't think of
what the circumstance, because it used to be you couldn't
have more than six years, and this is the first
time that's.
Speaker 6 (39:58):
Ever been allowed.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
So I think it's very likely he's the first seventh
year player and probably will be the only seventh year
player we ever have because the COVID rule, this is
the last group of people that get to use it.
Speaker 7 (40:09):
Yeah, I can think of a lot of six year guys.
Brendan Bates with your Bears he was here six years.
We were about to do a sixth year, but I
can't remember a seventh.
Speaker 6 (40:17):
I don't think we've had a seventh.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
So I think this will be the only seventh year
player in Kentucky history, certainly for the near future, because
I don't think anybody else will even be eligible to
do it except him. He's a very unique situation, having
red shirted, having had a transfer year, and then having
had the COVID year.
Speaker 6 (40:37):
Yeah, that's that. I actually think that is an interesting fact.
All right, what do you got, Drew?
Speaker 7 (40:41):
All right, I'm gonna have some pronunciation issues with this one,
which I should bring up. I was corrected. Doomis Johnson
does does not want to go by pop. We're not
calling him pop, and I said Jame and it's Jamontin.
So let's clear that up on Domis Johnson.
Speaker 6 (40:55):
So he doesn't want to go by Pop.
Speaker 7 (40:57):
I showed a little too much of my Kentucky twain
and pronouncing his name, which is why this next one
is gonna be a struggle. Stick with me. I'm going
next to Alex Afari, who's played a lot of football
in his first two years at UK, but he has
moved to inside linebacker to help get him on the
field more often and for his fun facts. Here we go.
He was born in I think it's per.
Speaker 6 (41:17):
To nown Italy.
Speaker 7 (41:18):
Is that a place, Matt, you were just there? P
A R P O R D E N O N
E Pert do you go there?
Speaker 6 (41:28):
I don't know. I've never heard of that place. But
he was born in Italy.
Speaker 7 (41:32):
Yep, And stick with me time. I'm still trying here.
He is fluent in t w I tweet. It's a
dialect of the Akon language in south southern and central Ghana.
Speaker 6 (41:45):
So he speaks. He speaks fluently.
Speaker 7 (41:48):
Yes, part of the someone that knows this probably thinks
I'm way off a K A N language.
Speaker 6 (41:56):
Anybody can speak that fluid.
Speaker 9 (42:00):
Italy.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
He's born in Italy, but he speaks a Ghanian language.
Speaker 8 (42:04):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (42:05):
And as I said, he played all started all twelve
games last year. Is that hybrid safety nickel? But they're
gonna get him more looks at linebacker this year?
Speaker 3 (42:15):
Interesting, Shannon, interesting, very interesting.
Speaker 4 (42:18):
All right, there you go throughs five for five, Ryan's
a half for five.
Speaker 6 (42:23):
It's been it's been good. We will give you more facts.
Speaker 4 (42:25):
