Quarterback, Techy Sports Radio eightf I'm nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven, text Machine seven seven two seven
seven four five two five four of these folks from
Oldham County going to Keeland. I knew they were a
little dressed up for the ks bar general sort of folks.
Usually Mario is the best dressed person here, and they were.
I knew they had to be doing something.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Yeah, Mario has totally been overdressing for our show so far.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
I don't like it. When I first met you were
wearing T shirts. Now you're making all this money, you're
buying designer clothes like you're gonna have to slow down.
That means you're making too much.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four. I want to give a shout out
to a couple of my compatriots here. First of all,
if you haven't read it yet, go on Kentucky Sports
Radio read Tyler Thompson's piece with Mark Pope's wife.
Speaker 5 (01:44):
It's really really good.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Gives you a sense of the first lady of Kentucky basketball.
She got she spent the day with Leam Pope. It's
really good. It's on the website. Secondly, my man Drew,
he started a year or two ago. He started doing
these rapid reactions, where as soon as the game's over,
they go live on YouTube and they and like they
talk about the game. So let me give you a
(02:07):
little behind the scenes. You know, I'm not gonna say
I'm petty, but sometimes I'm a little bit petty.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Here you go. So I get a call at the
beginning of the year.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Well, I get a call a few weeks ago from
somebody I really like it, UK who says to me, Hey, Matt,
the rapid reaction videos, y'all can't do those on the
field or on the court anymore. That's official JMI after
the game, property which I'm like, whatever, okay. So I
didn't like that, but I said, you know, you let
(02:35):
the TV stations go live on the field. You let
the TV stations go live on the court. Why can't
we do it? You can't. I didn't like that, So
I said, all right, let's figure something else out. And
I was like, hey, Drew, why don't you guys go outside.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
And be with the fans.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
They had already done that sometimes, but I was like,
forget about being on the court.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
There's no when you do.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It on the court, nobody's there anyway. They don't know
to say yes, and they don't on the sidewalk. I
ran in the first amendment that you can be on
the sidewalk, So now they do it on the sidewalk,
and it's become a thing. As people leave Reperina, they
wait for him, they get on there. The other night,
Jeff Shepard just popped in off of it. They get
special guests. It's right outside of rup. Last night they
(03:21):
had more views than the official stream of the postgame
press conference, which is what I wanted because they were
being petty and they were being stupid, and so we
just did our own thing and we beat him anyway.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
And by we I mean Drew.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
So congratulations, and I just wanted to say thank you.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
For saying that. And Steven and Jack, Zach, Adam Nick,
everyone that does some football basketball. We have a lot
of fun. They're very off the cuff. You know, we
don't have the stats in front of us. It's live
videos stand on the sidewalk. But it's been a blast,
and since going outside, the numbers have exploded. Exactly, I
don't care if it's going to be snowing in December.
We're going outside to see anyone outside Repperena give.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
The ultimately the best way to get get people to
care about your product is to less talk about trying
to hog it, but give people what they want. And
the vision of KSR has always been give the fans
what they want. And Drew and Jack and Jacob and
all those guys, Steven, they've been doing that, and I'm glad.
It was nice to see fourteen thousand people watched it
(04:18):
right as it came on live. I'd like to see
what other videos get that, so Ryan, I was happy.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
The last one is that peraching fifty fifty.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Fifty thousand people.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
That's that is grassroots TV right there. You're out there
amongst them.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
So to say, yeah, kick us out, We'll beat you
from the outside. Yep.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
Well, thanks for the shout out. And if anyone's going
to games, football or basketball, find us outside as soon
as its.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
Yeah, catch him outside. As the kids would say, all right,
who's up next? Scott is up next? Scott? Go ahead, Scott.
Speaker 7 (04:48):
Hey, guys, first time Coller. I admit, even as a
UK grad myself from ninety six, I mean I love
Mark Pope as a player. I was not on board
the pot train when he retired, but I was converted
pretty quickly after your als call with Mitch and then
after attending the press conference at RUPP. But at least
for me until last night, everything kind of felt like
(05:09):
a question mark in terms of execution. But you know,
right now, I mean I feel like I'm in cloud nine.
It's like I feel like we could be watching the
emergence of something great because you know, I really feel
like Mark Pope maybe reinventing college basketball.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
Oh whoa what game?
Speaker 8 (05:30):
We don't could be.
Speaker 7 (05:32):
I mean, we we don't have any megastars, but if
I had to describe Mark Pope, it would be like
if Billy Bean and ted Lasso had a baby.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
You know what, though, that's actually not a bad comment that,
you know, Billy Bean and ted Lasso together.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
You know, I'm kind of in the midst.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Of finishing season three of ted Lasso and the Mark
ted Lasso.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
That's not a terrible comparison.
Speaker 6 (06:00):
Barhart every morning with a biscuit and saying good morning.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Yes, I can't dude, that's a real I appreciate the call.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
That's gonna be my whiskey thief comparison of the day.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
That is a really good call. Have you watched ted Lasso?
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Yeah, and there is that innocence that they both have,
and yet that insightful analytical mind they both have. I
can see the very strong comparison.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
Dude, all he needs is a mustache. He seems too happy.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Ted Lasso has a tinge of sadness under him because
of his wife, and he misses his wife, and he
doesn't really know anything about soccer.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
But there's the Billy bean part of Mark Pope.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
I really like it. Yeah, Mark Pope and ted Lasso.
Someone should take ted Lasso's mustache and face.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
And put it on Pope.
Speaker 9 (06:43):
Do that?
Speaker 5 (06:43):
Meld? I like that.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
I meet lunch after the show. Give me about an
Hour'll be up to.
Speaker 5 (06:46):
Seton I do. I actually really like that.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Riding the biggest upset in college football in a number
of years by Vegas Spreads took place last night. Well,
actually Alabama Bandy was little more, but I'm gonna argue
this one was even bigger.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
Do you know what happened? It did?
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Jacksonville State game? No, that's the only one I saw.
It was on Kennisau State Kennessas State.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Kennisas State has been in FCFBS. This their third year
they've existed as a football program. Or no, they've existed
longer this, but they have basically for eight years played
FCS or what FBS, I never know what. We're in
Division one. They've played Division one teams for eight years.
(07:34):
For six of those years they also played FCS. In
eight years, never won a game against an FBST. They
went over in their conference the last two years. This
year they played last night. They've won a game, but
it was against an FCS tam. They played Liberty. Liberty
went undefeated last year. Liberty made the Fiesta Bowl last
(07:58):
year lost to Oregon sixty to three. But you know what,
we're not gonna talk about that. They made it this year.
Some people thought they were a dark horse for the playoff. Remember,
their president had a pool boy and a wife and
all that, so that's a whole different story. He has
nothing to do with this game. But anyway, they played
last night. Liberty was a twenty nine point favorite in
Kennesaw State beat him. They got their first ever FBS
(08:20):
win in the history of the program last night against Liberty.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Nice.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
I don't know anything about Kennessall's state, but I'm excited
they got the big win over Liberty.
Speaker 5 (08:29):
But that's why they play the games. Drew. You never
know what's gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
That's exactly why I thought you were gonna derail with
fade this when you're describing Liberty. That's more of a
conversation we have on our podcast now.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
I listen the Liberty scandal. I don't think he's still
the president, is he?
Speaker 10 (08:44):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (08:44):
No, it's Jerry Folwell's kid. Yes, you know about what happened, Mario.
There was a pool boy, you know what, look into it.
Whatever you think it was, it was crazier than that.
And I'll just leave it at that. It was next next, Robert,
go ahead, Robert.
Speaker 11 (09:03):
Hey, guys for some call or good to see you
bragging on but got it. Got a quick comment and
then a trivia question. I'll jump off here real quick.
I saw where Tyler and to spend the day with
missus Pope. She's the delight. She's the first lady in Kentucky. Now,
got a little glass for to do something with. My
wife does before I go out in public. My wife
(09:25):
kind of checks my clothing out. She might want to
check the coaches clothing them out. And had a little
malfunction here at the lunch and kip off lunch and
uh go back and check the video later what happened?
But my, uh his pants at the.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
Lunch, Hope split his pants.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
I didn't know that, but see again that's very ted
last So like Ted Lasso would split his pants at
the lunch.
Speaker 6 (09:49):
Early in the in the event kind of use his
hands to cover it the whole time.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
I like that.
Speaker 11 (09:56):
Uh my, my trivia question you guys, and I'll jump off.
Here is the number one spoken word by callers on
your KSR Calling show.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Do you know the answer? Or are you asking me the answer?
Speaker 11 (10:11):
I know the answer, but I'll see what you guys think.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Well, I mean the number one spoken word. Are you
we talking about recently or like of all time?
Speaker 11 (10:23):
Of all times, all time.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
It's not a word, but one of the phrases is
appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (10:30):
Did you say that? That's what I say, though that's
not what the.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Call callers say.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Well, I don't know, Wait, what's give me the answer?
Speaker 11 (10:43):
That's it?
Speaker 5 (10:49):
I appreciate the call? You know.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
So, I have a friend that says one of his
favorite things about the show is that when I say, hey,
man got fifteen seconds or I got thirty second?
Speaker 5 (11:00):
He was like, you finding a way people get.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Slower when you say that to him, He's like, as
soon as you tell them a time frame, he was like,
they freeze up, and he said, they get slower. And
it makes me laugh every single time. And I've started
to notice he's right about it, right true. If I
say thirty seconds, the person takes ten seconds to even
then get going.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
I can get it being intimidating though. You know, we
wake up and do this every morning. It feels like
we're just sitting on a couch talking by now. But
you know, if you're calling in and you're not used
to doing this and then you get put on a clock,
I could see how that would startle you a little bit,
get you thrown off. Yeah, especially when Shannon's got the
buzzer right around the corner with.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Oh, the buzzer. Nobody's fast with the buzzer the buzzer. Days,
people are slower than normal days. To be honest with you,
Who's next?
Speaker 5 (11:44):
Gabe? Is next? Gabe? Go ahead, Gabe.
Speaker 12 (11:48):
So it feels like for the past ten to twelve years,
the question around this point of this peason has been
has Cow found his lineup? Has Cow found his line up?
Do you think with the Pope era, the new question
is how I hoped found his rotation because it feels
like probably so many guys who can shoot. Now, yeah,
we don't have to worry about that part of it.
So it feels like he can have a wider range
(12:11):
of people that he can rotate in and out situationally,
as opposed to just the five best guys.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Yeah, I think what's gonna happen with the team?
Speaker 3 (12:18):
I said this last night on the Postgame Show, and
you tell me if you guys agree or disagree.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
I appreciate the call.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
I think there's six guys that are playing every game
no matter what, that are in the rotation all year.
I think that's Butler, Oway, Braa, Robinson, Carr Williams. I
mean those six every game. Then I think the second group,
which includes Kerr, Perry, Noah, Chandler, almanor Garrison, whom I'm missing.
(12:51):
I feel like I always miss one. Well whatever that group,
two or three of them will be in depending on
the game and depending how they're playing. And those dudes
are fighting for playing time all year. Ryan, do you
agree with that?
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (13:05):
You know, he didn't make a sub until almost the
second TV time out. It was like a little over
twelve minutes where he finally subbed in somebody. So I
wondered if one question I was gonna try to find
out when he was at BYU and you toss they
did he kind of just go with a short rotation
six seven guys? Or did he try to play a
bunch of guys usually?
Speaker 3 (13:22):
I mean they brought in though, I mean they brought
in ten dudes who expect to play, and then you
throw in Perry and Noah. That's twelve. So I you know,
I think a lot of dudes are getting minutes. I mean,
they're not twelve for not gonna play all the time,
but I think you're gonna see nine and ten play regularly.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
I'm gonna add Kirk Reeser to that top group. He
started for three years nearly every game. Okay, dude's gonna
play a lot of minutes. Backing up Butler, I think
play a little bit beside him too. But if you
just go back to any of Pope's teams, pick one BYU,
Utah Valley whatever, a lot of dudes play like twenty
to thirty minutes. You don't have a guy who's playing
thirty three, thirty four to thirty five. There's a he
(14:02):
uses his whole roster and.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Jackson Robinson was a sixth man last year. Yeah, and
their leading score. So I mean like everybody has a
has a different role. Who will be counting crown King
of the court.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Let me tell you what they're doing, tell me all
about it.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Every night a DraftKings they take the player with the
most points, rebounds and assist together and if you put
a bet on that person and they win, you split
a million.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
Dollars in bonus bet.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
My goodness, So the first night everyone that bet Anthony
Davis got ninety three dollars.
Speaker 6 (14:33):
Wow, I bet on Carlon lost.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
I don't know who won last night. But if you
bet an obscure player and fewer and fewer people pick them,
you might win bigger and bigger money.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
So every night and the fewer games. Usually a night
where you could win the most is the most games.
But you pick the right person. It's very intriguing. It's
at DraftKings. You can learn more about the details there.
I'm gonna start playing it. This is for the rest
of October, so you got now through Halloween to get
it done.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Go to DraftKings dot com.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Remember use my co ksruh for for a bonus, but
also try this game. It's the points, rebounds and assist
Guy of the Night to split a million dollars every
night now through Halloween.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Kind of a good promo. Yes, now through win to
win Halloween.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Halloween dkng dot slash v ball for additional terms and details.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
We'll take a break. Very back. It's KSR Halloween.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Welcome back in this Kentucky Sports Radio. Here at the
Ksbar and Grill. We are open for lunch tonight. The
game Vikings Rams tonight. Remember if you're in Ksbar today
you can get a free hundred percent bonus bet. But
from from DraftKings. It is Vikings Rams this evening. Uh
here here, well not just here. Everywhere are Draft Kings.
(15:50):
They're not just playing it in this building. They're playing
it actually in a game. You can Vikings Rams.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
Who do you like?
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Vikings just lost their first game last weekend right against Detroit.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
Those are lost.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
It's in LA.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
This is our DraftKings pick of the night we got.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
I'm going Vikings. I'm all about them, Okay.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Yeah, I mean they're looking really good. I'm going Vikings too.
I know they just lost the Rams, but they got
two wins. I think the Vikings went on the room.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
It's in and upset the Rams take them. Rams are
at home.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
They got they got a lot of people, got Stafford,
all right, they got Yeah, Flipper Williams, they got all
these guys. They got all these guys, and they're gonna
they're gonna be really good. Plus I'm gonna be on
the air during the game, so I hope it's at
least entertaining.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
All that try. You're doing the show tonight during the game.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
Yeah, I'm during the show during the game tonight.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Little to two at Well too too at Well played
at Louisville. Right, speaking of Louisville wide receivers, one of
them quit. Do you see that he didn't quit. He
might end up coming back to Louisville, but he was
hurt at the beginning of the year. He's played in
the last four games, and now if he wants to
keep his his last year of eligibility, he has to
uh sit out the rest of the year, and he
(16:58):
has decided to sit out the rest year. He's their
best player. He ran a kick back against Miami. He's
had really good games, best wide receiver. He now is
not playing, which will help Kentucky win the two teams
play at the end of the year.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Yeah, I didn't know he was that good of a
player that it was one of their stars that's going
to just step out now for the rest of the
season when they still have a chance to win a
lot of game to get a good Bowl game.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
I don't know if he plans on staying at Louisville
or not. He didn't say, but he does plan on
playing another year. So he's basically is like, look, I
got one more year eligibility. I'm not one hundred percent healthy.
I'd like to wait. You don't see that a lot,
but I can kind of understand it now that Louisville's
not really playing for anything, you know.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
Yeah, and these guys that aren't going to play professionally,
you got a small window. He came from a small school.
I understand if he wants to give another year where
can have a full season.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Also, this is some sad news on a lot of happiness.
We did mention Mark Stoop's mother passed away yesterday. Mark
and Mike, who's who Mark's brother, who's on the staff,
passed away. I think at ninety one years old, you know,
obviously very sad, lived a great life. You think about
(18:05):
how proud she has to be to have sons, all
of whom have had success in the same field where
they followed their father. But that's got to be tough
for Mark right in the middle of a game week
with this happening in Mike, that's got to be a
hard thing.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Yeah, that's your mom. Even if you're expected, that's still
a hard emotional thing to have to go through. I
think what four of her boys ended up being major
college football coach.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
You think about that four of her and then I
think the there's a daughter, and I think she's very
successful at whatever she does as well. Yeah, from I
mean really from Youngstown, Ohio. To have that level of
success with all of your sons, Yeah, that's just a
really neat thing. That's that's a that's a great life
ful Phil.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
I was trying to remember Vince on the show talked
about her something. She said something like take care of
Mark down there. But I remember just Vince telling stories
about her and how close they were too. Just the
timing of this. I feel awful for them, with so
much they have going on. You know, it's something I
think you want to just disappear for a little bit,
but he's in the middle of a football season.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
Who's up next? Nate is up next? Nate, go ahead
and Nate.
Speaker 13 (19:09):
Hey, guys, So this is the first time, long time.
Speaker 5 (19:13):
Who I met you.
Speaker 13 (19:16):
Guys down in Nashville for the SEC tournament last year
and they say, never met your heroes, but I got
to meet mine. And I just want to let you
guys know that you guys are some of the most humble,
genuine people I've ever met in my life.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
Well, that's very nice of you. Thank you, you guys.
Speaker 13 (19:36):
You guys do so much for not only the state,
but just for people in general. Every single day you
guys wake up, you make a difference in people's lives
and that's something that super hat too.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
That means a lot. Thank you very much.
Speaker 13 (19:56):
Yes, sir, h I'm by the way on Drew's beer
Buddy from I know I owe you one.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
I was about to bring that up. I think I'm
still down one on that count.
Speaker 13 (20:07):
No, I just I wanted to switch subjects here, and
I've been trying to get a hold of you guys
for a while, but I really want you guys to
know that you guys are very special to not just me,
but to everyone, and then say.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
I appreciate it. You got some money game real quick.
Speaker 13 (20:26):
I do have a question for you. So, with the
benching of Brock last game, do you think we're gonna
start seeing more Bowie?
Speaker 3 (20:36):
I don't think he was being binged. I think it
was just it was a long game. There was one
series left, let's just put him in. Uh No, I
don't think you were gonna see more Bowley either way.
But if you weren't gonna see more Bully, going oho
for six and throwing the interception probably didn't help that happen.
But I really don't think that was I don't think
(20:56):
that was going to happen either way.
Speaker 13 (21:00):
So then what do you what are you thinking about Gavin?
Because with the offensive line being so bad right now,
Gavin does give us that option to kind of do
you know, rollouts, whereas Brock he seems like every time
he rolls out he just makes the wrong or eat
every time.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Yeah, I would say, uh, I appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
I do think.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
I mean, there's a world where you see more from Gavin. Uh,
But I still think Brock's the main guy.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
Do you agree with that.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Yeah, Brock's still the quarterback, and they they put Cutter
Bowley in kind of a tough situation, but at least
they tried to get him some reps at some point
this season. It was just kind of a tough situation
to put him in right there. But I think they're
still use Gavin Wimsen in those packages, especially in the
red zone when they kind of just because he's he
is what has been one of our best runners all season.
Speaker 6 (21:45):
I didn't like him going to him so early when
they were rotating I guess those two weeks ago. Uh,
But I just it's crazy that on October twenty fourth,
with a team we're so excited about, we're talking about
Bowlie or Whims that it just shows how disappointing.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
It's been very disappointed, no doubt about that. Been very disappointing.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
And quarterback play hasn't been great this year. I mean
it's been good, but it hasn't been great.
Speaker 6 (22:06):
I just can't talk about that injury part last night
because it had Demi and Chip. That's not good for business. No,
Will Cox is gonna have to get some bel crow.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Yeah, I mean, if we lose those guys, I don't
know what you're gonna do.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
I was not a good injury.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
I feel like Demmy's gonna play. I think he was.
Speaker 6 (22:23):
He wasn't out.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Yeah, I think Demmy's gonna play. But it's still I mean,
you're you've actually been extremely lucky that you haven't had
more injuries at that position since it was so thin.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Yeah, lost Patterson early, so they lost another guy. I
had the only two in that room really was getting
any touches, so you can't afford to lose anybody else.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, uh,
Kentucky and Auburn by the way, seven forty five?
Speaker 5 (22:47):
Do we get Tom again or no?
Speaker 6 (22:50):
Taylor Zarza?
Speaker 5 (22:51):
I think Taylor's Arzer.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
That's a person who I hear that name, but I
have no idea who that is.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
Do you know who's Taylor's Where did Taylor's Zarzer play?
Speaker 6 (23:03):
I don't have that. I wasn't even certain it was Taylor,
but it is. But if I'm I'm pretty positive that's
who we have.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
All right, Well, should be exciting. We'll take a break
A five nine two twenty two every.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Seven we are here at KOs barn and Grails Kentucky
Sports Radio working back Tukey Sports Radio. All right, I
got a story for you that just was sent to me.
And you know, we are in a happy frame of
mind with UK basketball. But to the point the guy
(23:34):
made earlier about well could you make the case for
the other side, told you'd be hard.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
I just got to send in an article to give
you an example. All right.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
First of all, you know, Arkansas plays an exhibition game
tomorrow against Kansas. They had their pregame press conference this morning.
Guess who did it? Kenny Payne. Kyle skipped his first
ever games pregame press conferen and sent an assistant. And
they're playing Kansas, the projected number one team in the nation.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
So start with that. Now, this is from Sports Illustrated.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
I'm not gonna read all of it, but I'm gonna
read more than I would normally read. John Calipari has
been saying for a while now, but it's reached a
higher level of reality. Arkansas fans may want to tamp
down expectations. The first major warning sign came from a
comment by recruiting practice who came to a practice this week.
Abduterre said he was impressed by how Cali Peri ran practice,
(24:30):
but noticed it was he heavily limited. Quote, it was
great to see the exposure, but they only have five
players right.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
Now that are active. Five.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Word has trickled out that Arkansas may get Trayvon and
Brazil back, which would make six, but that would only
be six players to play against Kansas. This was a
major concern for fans. When Cali Perry voiced his philosophy
of keeping his scholarships down to maximize nil money and
not wasting on others, cal said, quote, I think I'm
only gonna have eight or nine guys. I'll fill out
(25:02):
the roster with walk ons and maybe gas who still
know how to play. Walk Ons would be useful right now,
especially one that plays for Arkansas. But Losson Blake decided
to get into the promotion business rather than come back and.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
Play for this season.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Wow, Losson Blake got into the promotion business. Now here
are the two paragraphs that are the given.
Speaker 6 (25:25):
Oh that wasn't the story.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
That's not the story that Losson Blake quit to go
into the promotion businesss it?
Speaker 5 (25:31):
By the way, you gotta put this up on the website, KSR.
Just seeing him if everyone.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Could get healthy in time for the first game against Lipscomb,
that would be good. There's also a game against Baylor
early in the season. It's not that big a deal,
but there are missed opportunities for team chemistry. However, if
this ends up biting Caliperi in the backside as he
has to run players into the ground, then what happens
in the NCAA tournament run. Maybe he should have gotten
(25:56):
more players going into the season. And here's the quote.
Caliberry says, quote, there are all kinds of way to
do this, and this is the way I've done it,
and if this isn't the right way, I'll change it.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
Normally I change things fast, but I'm thinking this is
the right way.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
I'm shocked.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
First I'm not shocked, but I am shocked. Normally I
changed things fast. Challenge flag, that ain't true.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Secondly, he only has five healthy players and loss in
Blake quit to go into the promotions business.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
So thank you to whoever sent me that. But this
is an unbelievable article.
Speaker 6 (26:41):
If that makes me think when the team's got their
first weeks of practices in June July, whenever, that was
when we're seeing clips of Kentucky. They look so advanced.
They're already you know, working on plays, not meeting to
learn how to huddle. And then Cal at that time
said we can't practice. They had three people in a
boot in one photo. I didn't know Linger all the
way till a week before the season starts. I mean
(27:03):
that is that sounds like a disaster. How have you
not practiced the seasons? It's around the corner.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
And he says he changed stuff fast. How many times
in November did we hear him say something like, we
haven't even talked about defense yet. We haven't even put
in all of our sets. We haven't even done this,
we haven't even done that. It sounds like they're getting
a lot of that and more now at Arkansas.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
So there you go. Promotions, promotions business. Wow, sometimes you
got to.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Promote things, right the Kenny Payne doing the press conference
thing and not everyone cares about press conference. It's my job.
But that is so wrong. In your first one to
meet or meeting you for the first time, they're probably
so excited to be there and they're gonna say, why
the hell is this guy up there?
Speaker 5 (27:42):
Dude?
Speaker 4 (27:42):
It's low class, it's lack of respect. For the position,
the job, the fans, the media, everything. It's just lack
of respect.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Five players. They're playing against Kansas tomorrow night.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
I'm in a big I feel bad for him.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
Who's next? Bluegrass is blue Grass? What's up? Hey?
Speaker 14 (28:00):
What's going on?
Speaker 10 (28:01):
Matt boy?
Speaker 14 (28:02):
We excited up this way. Glad to see the Mountains
representing again.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Yeah, how about Trent Noah gets in there? Four threes?
I mean, come on, Harlan County raise up.
Speaker 14 (28:13):
Well, I'm just glad I wasn't watching him do it
a Columbia South Carolina?
Speaker 5 (28:17):
Yes see that You're exactly right.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
And let me give you credit to Lamont. Is it
Paris the coach at South Carolina? That dude, yes, pick
Noah out before he exploded during the you know, Kentucky
State run had him committed, but the kid wanted to
play for Kentucky. And I'm told Nolly did he not
raise a fuss? He encouraged the kid to fall his heart.
(28:41):
A lot of people wouldn't do that, So big salute
to that coach.
Speaker 14 (28:45):
Yep, I say something else was speaking almost on cal
like five players. Could you imagine trying to prep for
our team running through all these screens all this space
and all these hard cuts, you can't play to you
with five players. I'm sorry, no.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
But that's you know, he was doing that though, like
we had. You know, let's just use example of this team.
I appreciate the call think about practice. I don't know
if you heard was it was it Oway?
Speaker 5 (29:14):
No was Butler? Who was? No was Oway?
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Oway said they asked him about playing against other players
last night, and he goes, I was just so excited
to have someone besides Lamont Butler Garden. Well, what that
does to show you is in practice they're playing against
great guys. I remember Cal said in twenty fifteen, he
was like, our practices are better than our games. If
(29:37):
you're Andrew Harrison and Aaron Harrison and you're having to
practic against Tyler Elis and Devin Booker every day, there ain't.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
Anybody you can play against. It's better than that.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
This team is getting a version of that in getting
to play rather than playing against gas who might be in.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
The promotions business.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Kirk Crisa and Travis Perry are becoming better defenders because
they have to battle Lamont Butler and a Taking Alway
every day in practice.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
So anyway unbelievable. Who's up next? Madison? Is next? Madison?
Go on, Madison?
Speaker 10 (30:10):
How you doing that?
Speaker 5 (30:12):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 9 (30:14):
Right?
Speaker 10 (30:15):
I got two things for you. One, I was gonna
ask you guys if you thought, uh the I was
reading you posted on Twitter that that was the third
largest margin victory against Kentucky Weeshley, and I thought, has
that ever happened before? Or is that the first time
we've done that?
Speaker 3 (30:36):
And wait, man, I'm asking question, what do you it's
the third largest victory of all time? But what are
you asking me if we've ever had the third largest victory.
Speaker 15 (30:44):
Of all time before?
Speaker 5 (30:47):
Well, we've had two.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
That were larger than that one because it was the
third largest victory of all time.
Speaker 15 (30:54):
Yeah. And then two is, uh, if we play as
well as we did against Weserland, do you think we'll
be favored over Duke or you're all not sure about that?
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Uh, that's a good question, Matt. It's a thank you.
I I don't know what do you think the line
will be for Kentucky Duke.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
One of my first thoughts when the game ended last
night was if I'm gonna bet these championship odes, I
better get on it quick and I want to.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Just thirty five hundred.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
Yeah, but I'm saying I think that might change if
they keep playing like they did last night, and then
I want a Duke line before they play a couple
of games, too, because I want as many get as
many points in that one as possible when I hammer
that money line with it.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
I'm just this is just a total gas. I'm gonna
guess Duke is favored. I'm gonna guess Duke is favored by.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Three and a.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
Half, exactly the number I was about to say.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
Just a complete gas.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
That's just a complete gas, because I mean, I don't
know how you and I'll tell you what I mean.
We always talked about setting college football lines early. How
in the world do you set college basketball lines in
the first weeks of the season. I mean, most these
rosters are completely different. How in the world do you
if you're Vegas, how do you set a Kentucky Duke line?
Speaker 5 (32:09):
I have no idea.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
Duke probably will end up, yeah, being a small favorite,
just because of the players that they've got coming in.
Kentucky was such an unknown until basically last night. You
really don't know how good this team's going to be yet.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
I actually really would be fascinated at how Vegas is
setting lines in.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
College basketball in the first two or three weeks of
the year. I mean, that is just got to be.
Speaker 6 (32:31):
Just a crapshoot, right, Yeah. I mean last year I
did very well betting Reed Shepherd props before he blew
up because Vegas hadn't really adjusted to what Reid was
doing in lectionon it just with.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
So many Well, let's say Kentucky played Louisville in Game one,
how would you have any idea how to set that line?
Both teams completely new, both coaches completely new. You would
just be guessing.
Speaker 6 (32:53):
Wouldn't you have to move a lot for them to
get the money on you?
Speaker 5 (32:57):
There'd be no way to do that.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Do you make the odds so small that it's not
gonna matter and doesn't see which way the money line money?
Speaker 5 (33:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
I mean i'd actually that's actually something I'd like to,
you know, ask somebody and figure out, because that is
really really.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
I don't know, But I would just say, let's just
guess Duke.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Duke three and a half. You know what's scary where
you don't know where your meat comes from. You've been
seeing all this stuff about McDonald's and all that. You know,
you let that guy in a suit that doesn't have
a hair ned in, things start happening.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
When you shop in a big box store, you don't
know where the cow was raised. Yeah, you don't know
where the dyes were added. Sure, but it no Cha
lind of Farms. The beef has locally grown. You can
see the cows wave at them, hand fed, completely free
from steroids or home hormones. They drives their beef for
to maximize their flavors. No Cha Linden Farms is a
Kentucky Proud partner. They have all kinds of beef, including
(33:55):
specialty cuts like the pecan Ha don't know that one.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
That's what you get those Brazilian.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Steakhouse you know where they carry around your meat stick
in your face. You have a card now you don't
have to have people stick and meat in your face.
You go to no Cha Lindafarms dot com.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
N O C H E.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Linda Farms dot com. A five nine seven oh seven
seven thousand and four a Kentucky Proud uh, a Kentucky
Proud partner. It's no Cha Linda, and it's Pekana, Pekana.
We'll be right bad welter back TUCKI Sports Radio. If
I'm not two twenty two eighty seven, I got some
folks on I'd like to get to all of them.
Really cool update the Arkansas Kansas came tomorrow night.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
Like you can't make this up. Uh. Kansas is also
banged up, so they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Play quarters, no foul outs, and they're going to stop
the game at times to work situational one on one
floor coaching.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
So it's not a game. It's not a game, but
they're inviting fans.
Speaker 6 (34:52):
Are they gonna ask Kansas not to play zone because
they're not ready to face his own defense.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
They're gonna play one on one hundred.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
Dickinson's not playing, so maybe don't be as bad. But
they're gonna play well.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
One on one, like not one on one player, but
like they're gonna stop the game and run like situations.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
Interesting.
Speaker 6 (35:11):
Okay, Uh, I was excited. Why I thought we were
gonna get a basketball me too.
Speaker 5 (35:15):
You're not getting a basketball game, you're getting you're getting.
Speaker 6 (35:18):
Something good luck with that sounds exciting, But Kansas is
going to Arkansas. They probably thought they were gonna have
a game.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
That's that's kind of kind of interesting.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Five nine, two eight, twenty two eighty said one person
rights matt AI sets all the lines. Now, actually that's
not true. Ai like gives them a base setting. But
there's been versions of that for years programs, but it
is still a human being that sits there and says, okay,
like perfect examples of cowboys, they take the spread and
(35:48):
then they add a point or a point and a
half because they know so many people bet the cowboys.
So the humans still adjusts for what they think the
human betting factor is. There have been computer programs that
set the initial things twenty years, but they still have
a human element because the goal is not to pick
what's actually gonna happen, but how to get money equally
on either side.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
Drew.
Speaker 6 (36:07):
Yeah, and there's situational things the robots can't know. Injuries,
you know, stay to some teams that they kind of
factor into.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Yeah, the robots don't know everything yet. Get I mean,
it's gonna happen, but it hasn't happened yet.
Speaker 5 (36:21):
Who's up next?
Speaker 13 (36:22):
Elijah's next?
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Elijah? How are you? Elijah?
Speaker 9 (36:26):
I'm good? Uh. I was ten years old when we
won the ninety six championship and that made me a
lifelong diehard. Detecky there and watching that game last night, man,
it just felt like I know it was an exhibition game,
but man, it felt good. It just felt like good basketball,
and it made me really excited totally. A couple of comments, Yeah,
(36:50):
I got a couple of comments. I didn't. It was
pleasantly surprising at how fast Lamont Butler is.
Speaker 5 (36:58):
Floor.
Speaker 9 (37:00):
He's not like John wallfast, but he's fast.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
He's fast.
Speaker 9 (37:03):
I mean, he's that next tier.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
You know, he's not Wall fast, he's not Fox fast.
That was a different level. But he's probably in that
next tier. You're right.
Speaker 9 (37:12):
Yeah. And the and the last thing is greg me
if I'm wrong, But the kind of.
Speaker 8 (37:18):
Team we're going to be this year, isn't that.
Speaker 9 (37:21):
Like Coach Cow's worst nightmare? Like aren't those the teams
that used to kind.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Of you know, I said this on the Postcape Show.
I said this on the Post Cape Show. I appreciate
the call. There was a moment at the end of
the game, Ryne when it was Perry uh Noah, Chandler,
car and Oway or Brea, and I said, that looks
like a team that would beat us in.
Speaker 5 (37:42):
The first round of the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
You're right, guys, execute our good shooters. I mean that's
that is what it looked like. Uh yeah, no, I
think I think that's true. Who's next?
Speaker 5 (37:54):
J is next? Jay Rock? I knew.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I knew this was coming as soon as we got
that call, go ahead, Jay Rock.
Speaker 8 (38:02):
Hey, what's up, y'all? What's going on?
Speaker 5 (38:04):
What's going on?
Speaker 12 (38:06):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (38:07):
I'm down here on Pambolla Lake fishing and it's beautiful
as his outside man Madison got me inspired, Matthew, I
was just wondering, what is the three copy victory scoring
margin in the history of the third No, what is
the three third I score margin games in history? Holla?
Speaker 5 (38:28):
I knew that was coaching. I knew it. I knew
as soon as I got that call, I was like,
Jay Rock's gonna call in. I do it. There's that, Glenn,
go ahead, Glenn.
Speaker 16 (38:43):
Hey, guys, Hey, one thing last night while I was
watching the game on a computer, Lamont Butler reminds me
so much of Tyler Eulis. I fully expect to see
a bloody jersey on him before the year's out. And
two if coach polk Is did laugh though, does that
make Mark Fox thank you?
Speaker 5 (39:07):
You know, I, first of all, Roy Kant's a great
character show.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
I appreciate the best characters I've seen it along.
Speaker 5 (39:13):
Roy kent Is is a great character and his his
role evolves.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
That's part of why that show is so good. Jamie
Tart is a good character on there. Keeley is a
good character. The Boss who Ryan kind of has a
thing for not gonna lie. You kind of like the boss,
don't you.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
Well, one of my friends really likes that boss.
Speaker 5 (39:33):
The Boss is kind of you know, the Boss is
kind of Ryan's thing. I understand that there's there's a
lot of great characters.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
On that great characters on that show. I like Trent
Griham or was it Trent Graham? The Independent? Oh yeah,
the newspaper writer. The newspaper writer. Like, there's a lot
of uh wait, you don't. I don't like Rupert. Rupert
stinks that's her ex husband.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
Oh yeah, who's.
Speaker 6 (39:57):
The other assistant coach? I can't play.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
I don't like him either. What's his name? The dude
who goes to west Ham Nate don't like Nate. Nate's Nate.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Now, if something happens at the end. Don't tell me.
I haven't finished season three, okay, but I still don't want.
Speaker 5 (40:11):
To like him. He's he he. You don't stab people
in the back like Nate did. Who's next? Mariah? Is next? Mariah?
Go ahead?
Speaker 17 (40:21):
Hey, Matt, First time caller, long time listener?
Speaker 5 (40:24):
Who are?
Speaker 17 (40:26):
I have been on hold and I wanted to call
in and talk about how cool it was for our
Kentucky freshmen to have their breakout game and rup.
Speaker 14 (40:33):
Like they did.
Speaker 17 (40:34):
But while you was on hold, you brought up this
Sports Illustrated article, and it has got me fired up.
Speaker 8 (40:40):
I was one of the ones.
Speaker 17 (40:41):
Who was screaming at the tunnel in the SEC tournament.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
Last year.
Speaker 17 (40:47):
That okay, it was our first time we had ever
gotten to go to the SEC tournament. The last time
we tried to go to the SEC Tournament, we saved
up our money, we bought tickets, twenty twenty gets canceled.
So then four years later, we're so excited to go
to the tournament and watch my three favorite players. Read
Rob and Reeves and well we all know how that ended.
(41:09):
So when you brought up that article, I'm just thinking,
oh my gosh, what would have happened. If we would
have handled that differently, if we would have gotten a
few more games with those guys, I just wanted more time.
But last night's game was amazing. I just enjoyed it
so much. I saw an out of bounds play, like
I forgot what.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Those Yeah, yeah, those you're right. I gotta let you go, Maria, right,
but that's you're right about everything. You're exactly right. And
you know that, Coller asked earlier. I can't think about.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
It, but read Robin Reeves really would have been good.
Speaker 4 (41:42):
Those dudes were talking about final fours.
Speaker 5 (41:47):
Those three guys we were with this.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
They will play. You mentioned Travis Perry six points in
Blue White game, five points.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
He's averaging five point five points a game, just for people.
When we picked between five and six right down, Travis
Perry's at five point five.
Speaker 5 (41:59):
Just just as one point, just for the record.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
