Speaker 3 (03:02):
Give me an exact Tell everybody the countries you've played.
Speaker 8 (03:04):
In, Turkey, Potland, Greece, Italy, Africa, Venezuela. I was in
Venezuela this summer that passed. You were in Venezuela.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
So do you do like? Who up Poland? Is that?
Speaker 8 (03:24):
I didn't do that, but I had a great time
that It was a it was a war going on
when I was out there in Vealezuela. So but it
had us in like a hotel resort, so they kept
us safe though.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
So I had a great time.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
There was a war going on.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
It was a war going on.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Did that make you nervous a little bit?
Speaker 8 (03:39):
My mom was calling me every day worrying about me though,
But I was okay though in the hotel resort.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
So I would say, all right, Marcus, what about you?
Where have you been?
Speaker 6 (03:46):
I've been all around Russia, Korea, Israel.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Germany, Russia and Israel? Like, are you looking for war soon?
Speaker 6 (03:55):
Out there?
Speaker 7 (03:56):
A little bit before the wars, I was fine, But
I've been there were China, I've been all over.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
I mean, listen, I know that's a lot on your
body and the travel, but is it cool getting to
go to all those places and experience all those cultures. Yeah?
Speaker 8 (04:10):
Of course, taking pictures on videos, flying my parents out
so they cant experienced that too, and it's a great
experience for me too.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
The culture, different foods, different languages.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
What's your favorite country?
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Probably Italy? I was different three years.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yeah. Did you start to like the Italian food? It's
great food. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
I can't eat pasta every day, you know, it's too much.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Foster, what about your Mark? It's favorite country.
Speaker 7 (04:33):
I actually liked Korea a lot. It was kind of
like New York City had like a city viob to
it. It was a lot different than I expected. Food was
pretty good, and uh, it was just good culture.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
It was a good culture.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Now, you guys, I love listening to you talk about
your time when you were here. Tell me each of
you what what did What does Kentucky basketball and having
played on in this program, what does it mean to you?
Speaker 5 (04:55):
And it means a lot.
Speaker 9 (04:56):
Man.
Speaker 8 (04:56):
I had a It's one of my best two years
here for me to be my best friend here with
me too, So he experienced the whole thing I went
through was great too. Playing with Marcus Brandon Knight to
talented plaint guards, I backed them up and started beside them.
He played with great players like Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, good,
Chris Leggins, Darius Miller.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
George George I could keep going and just came through.
Speaker 8 (05:20):
He didn't play, but you know so, but I had
a great experience, a great experience, two final fours, national champion,
SEC champion, that.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Other point scorers. So I had a great two years.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
And all right, I got some questions that I know
these guys too. Let's start with you, Marcus. You did
you initially commit to Louisville? No?
Speaker 6 (05:41):
I did not.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Everybody thought you were gonna go to the little bit.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
Not true.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
They thought I was gonna go there because my father
played for Rick Patino, so they had a good relationship.
Speaker 6 (05:48):
But as far as committing there, no, I never did that.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Was it always gonna be Kentucky?
Speaker 6 (05:52):
I can't say that.
Speaker 7 (05:53):
Because to be later, Yeah, but I was kind of
more interested in Cincinnati at first, and then when cal
Call immediately.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Was uy, it was immediately Kentucky. All right? So when
when did you know that? Like, you had a national
championship level team.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Day one, our first open GYM.
Speaker 7 (06:12):
I knew Anthony Davis and Mike Gilkers from AAU, but
as soon as I got a chance to actually see
dron Darius Miller t Jones.
Speaker 6 (06:18):
I said, oh, yeah, we got something special.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yeah. Now, I got to ask you about a legend
I've heard. Now, you tell me if this is true.
But I've been told this was true, and I've repeated
this story. So if it's not true, I almost don't
want you to tell me, but you can tell me.
There was a lockout the summer before you guys played
your season and the Thunder. I believe Nazi Mohammad brought
(06:40):
the Thunder to Lexington? Am I right?
Speaker 6 (06:43):
True?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
And the story I've always heard is that you guys
scrimmaged against the Thunder. Is that correct.
Speaker 7 (06:49):
I'm not gonna say it was full of the Thunder.
It was kind of mixed guys. Sometimes they had Eric
Blesso Rondo, but most of the Thunder players.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
So it's mostly pros and the Thunders. And I'm told
that in the first one of the first games you played,
you all beat them. We won.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
They had actually they had Lebron James playing KAT.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
All those guys.
Speaker 6 (07:10):
This is true.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
You had Lebron James and KT.
Speaker 6 (07:13):
It was all playing.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Everybody was there, and who was on the Kentucky.
Speaker 7 (07:16):
Team obviously men, Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, mikes.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
Uh did play that day, he's played.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
This is like our top six, okay, And I'm told
you all one and maybe you said a line that
was something like, we is Kentucky. We know we may
not be able to say the whole.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
We're gonna blank some of it out, but yeah, so.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Tell me without saying the word, what did you say
after you won?
Speaker 6 (07:42):
I said, we Kentucky, we don't give f.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
F And that became team in after Ron, and that
kind of became how you guys were known.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
That's the fact you're right. I mean we were a
great team.
Speaker 8 (07:57):
That lock all year was crazy of NBA players coming in,
James Harden, Josh Josh Smith, Rondo. So we got a
chance to play against NBA played before the NBA season started.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
So it gave us a like a you know what made.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
You guys still think you had the to talk You
hadn't even played a college game yet to talk trash
to Lebron and Durant.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
Because it was big Tom players in high school. So
are we compete against anybody? It didn't really matter to us.
Speaker 10 (08:28):
Even though you came in confident you'd already played a
year here and those are NBA guys, what did that
actually do when you got to the college games? Because
in your back of your mind you had to thinking,
are giving buggets to Kevin Durant Now I'm playing someone
from you know name of college school. I mean, did
that add your confidence or it sounds like you all
might have already had it?
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Now?
Speaker 8 (08:44):
It gave us a big confidence knowing that he was
all great players. We all know r role and stuff
like that. So it gave us a lot of confidence
going in the season. And it made it easy for
us too. So IoAT want a championship. If I recall,
there was some some hanging out with those guys off.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
I'm hanging out listen, I was at the party. I mean,
I'm not gonna say, but I'm gonna say.
Speaker 10 (09:04):
It was whoever playing the party did a great job
to talk about that.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
All right. So all right, so you you start that season,
then Marcus, tell me what was the what's the game
you remember the most. I think you're probably gonna say
in blooming Yeah.
Speaker 7 (09:18):
I was about to say it isn't a good game.
It was definitely Bloomington. I still got to deal with
that to this day because I live in Indiana, so
every time I walk in a bar, it's a picture
of Christian Wafford hitting the shot. It's like, I can't
get away from that shot. But that's definitely. But what's
wrong with them? We beat them?
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Dorn like like what he hears about?
Speaker 6 (09:35):
We say that every time we beat you on the county.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
They don't care like we beat them when it counted.
Why don't they Why don't they realize it? And we
didn't just beat them. You all crushed them.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
Exactly something like that. Yeah, we were so when we
seen we could play them. We were so happy when
we went the cowhouse. We gotta kill them?
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Is that what you said? When they were in your bracket?
Speaker 5 (09:53):
You we could they were scared though. I think they
were scared a little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
I could tell that they were scared. What was it
like when I was fans went on the floor.
Speaker 7 (10:02):
That was tough. That was a bad feeling. It was
touching us crazy things. That was a bad feeling. It
was like a sea ridge just coming down. You can
see him rushing on the floor. It was crazy.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
I was there that day and it felt like that.
I've said, I've been to college games for twenty years.
I thought that was the nastiest crowd I've ever been in.
Speaker 8 (10:21):
It was loud in me, I couldn't even hear the
like write it down on the boards so we can
read it on the board.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
It was loud.
Speaker 7 (10:29):
That was That was actually a really fun game though,
but it wasn't nasty.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Now which one of you was supposed to be on Watford?
Speaker 7 (10:36):
I think thems I got I got called in the
full court ball screen and I didn't sprint back, so
kind of when on film I was getting killed about it,
I kind of jogged and then when I seen he
was open, I sprint it.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
But I think the Mills was actually God.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
And Marcus that year, if I remember, you struggled a
little bit at the beginning of the year and then
things kind of turned around for you as the year
went on.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
Why was that I was trying to adjust my game?
Speaker 7 (10:58):
Like coming out of high school, I was I scored
a lot of points, so I played on teams where
mostly it was just about me. So coming into a
team where I have guys like him, Terrence Jones, Andy Davis,
I gotta figure out how to feed all these guys
and still get myself going. So I kind of struggled
adjusting to that, but you know they stayed with me,
and that's the season went alone.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
Thirteen changed.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
You were there in twenty eleven with the Brandon Night team.
That team lost a ton of close games and then
in the tournament turned it on. What changed that season around?
Speaker 8 (11:28):
We just couldn't close games, like Coach Colla was real
big on us closing games. So in practice we will
play a lot of like four minutes, like last four
minutes of the game, stuff like that, and try to
win games stuff like that. So we get used to
winning close games. And we was young team at the time,
me and brand Knight and the back court.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
He was young. We couldn't really wasn't strong enough, really
couldn't get open like that. So it took his time.
Speaker 8 (11:48):
But when we got used to it and got used
to college basketball, we figured it out.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
And was it true that Brandon Knight red Shakespeare. People
would say that that's hard for me to see a
college kid reading Shakespeare.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
You know, be like, that's believable.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
He was a good kid.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
Always in the gym, in the gym the most out
of all of us.
Speaker 8 (12:06):
I'm always in the school, I mean, always in his books,
always studying, doing homework, stuff like that. So he was
a working hard the weight room and everything.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
When did you realize Marcus Anthony Davis was Anthony Davis?
Speaker 6 (12:18):
Early?
Speaker 7 (12:19):
It kind of honestly thought Terrence Jones, well T Jones
was really good, but I thought he was our best
player after our Blue and White scrimmage.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
But after our first.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Game it didn't have like a crazy amount of points.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Yeah, fifty points.
Speaker 7 (12:31):
But after the first couple of games, I'm like, no, way,
Anthony Davis is the guy.
Speaker 6 (12:35):
He could.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
He can control the game without scoring. His defensive president.
He was getting four or five blocks a game. It
was just crazy how he dominated. So after our first
game or two, I knew what Tom it was you
we played Louisville the final four, Yeah, easy.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Game made it. What did you I mean? They weren't
great that year? Did you feel confident going into that one?
They couldn't. They wouldn't.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
They couldn't match up with us.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
The press wasn't gonna work against us.
Speaker 7 (13:01):
We played so well in transition we actually made them
get out of the press.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Were just running down getting dunks.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
I'm like, ya, can't press us the U.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
And then in the championship game.
Speaker 8 (13:14):
We beat them earlier in that season, so it was, yeah,
you ready call. We was calling back in school, setting
the parties and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
I mean you were setting up parties before the Champion
party party.
Speaker 7 (13:25):
Actually we thought if we played Ohio State, that probably
would have been a better game.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
I don't want them, I think against selling jer So
you you scored, I mean you having the champions twenty
two twenty two, I remember the three that kind of
put it away, back to back of the last one,
the last one I was I was so nervous. I
was watching it in the garage of the of the arena,
and that was when I decided to run back in.
What does it feel like when you hit the shot
(13:49):
that you know is gonna get the title?
Speaker 5 (13:51):
It was amazing.
Speaker 8 (13:52):
I knew with all our last games playing with each other,
So before the game, I told you, boy, like our
last game, so we could go hard and just you
enjoy it.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
So that shot with men a lot to me. I
was like the best shot of my career.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I've heard a lot of people say that, like, yeah,
you make more money afterwards, but like nothing is more
fun than that year in college. Do you agree with that?
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Yeah, the college experience experience is amazing.
Speaker 7 (14:18):
You're all kids having fun like we're playing basketball, But
the stuff we did off the court, we remember a
lot of that.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
More than anything, just being brothers.
Speaker 7 (14:26):
The kind of chemistry we built in the bond we built,
we all still friends to this day.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
There's nothing like college.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
You guys all stay in contact.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
The group we all do for the most part.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
That's good. Well, they're going to bring you back at
some point. It's a group and like, you know, bring
you to a game. Are you looking forward to that? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (14:43):
I can't wait. I want to see the new team.
I want to meet the new team. You're going to
practice today, right, so I want to see them live.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Did you want to do game?
Speaker 5 (14:51):
I watched it.
Speaker 8 (14:52):
It was a great game. When they came back for back.
I like, what's the guymber zero double zero O take away?
Speaker 5 (14:58):
I like him? I like him.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
You like a little bit of you. Any I like
the you were more of a shoot. You aren't the
defender like that.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
I play a little defense.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Hey, little is the keyword there.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
I'm not gonna let nobody score them, you know, but yeah,
any days behind me?
Speaker 6 (15:11):
So yeah, sometimes we play ola defense. We know Anthony
behind it.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
You were like, please got it? Well, all right, we're
gonna take you. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty
two eighty seven, you gotta stick around for a bit.
All right, we're gonna talk a little more. We got
Marcus t deron lamb. If you have questions text machine
seven seven two seven seven four five two five four.
The national champs are here, will be right back. It's
KSO Shows, Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. All right,
(15:42):
so Shannon without me saying it plays teach Me about Kentucky.
But I have a question on the text machine. If
I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, text
machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four,
ask the guys if they really like Teach Me about
Kentucky and think that's good. See, there's been a long time.
I'm fight on this show. I kind of like it.
Chinning you hate yeah?
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Right, yeah, I don't like it.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
You didn't like it? So what about you all?
Speaker 5 (16:07):
Jes my brother, but that song is terrible?
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Why don't you like it?
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Lyrics is his baby lyrics. It's just I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
In the locker room when you guys heard it, right.
Speaker 8 (16:21):
He did that he did that on his own. He
came up to us like you got a song. We
didn't even know he was even doing that. It was
but right now he's about to get lucky. The real
T Jones gonna teach you about Kentucky. You're not You're
not liking that.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
I don't feel the verse. I don't feel the verse.
I don't like it.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
I like the verse. That's too bad. What person writes, Uh,
Matt ask Marcus how hard did cal hit him on
the butt after he hit those free throws in the championship?
Hen be real hard.
Speaker 6 (16:48):
It was all excited. It was fun.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Uh. Another person writes, does does Doroan know that when
he moved out of his apartment, Drew Franklin took over
his mattress.
Speaker 10 (16:57):
You moved out and I moved in. Yeah, so what weird?
There's a furnish department.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
You know that's great? I don't even know that.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Yes, yeah, I was.
Speaker 10 (17:06):
Moving in there like Doron lemb moved out two days ago.
It's like, very cool?
Speaker 6 (17:09):
Was it cleanly?
Speaker 10 (17:12):
He left me a Billionaire Boys T shirt?
Speaker 3 (17:15):
You still got it?
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (17:16):
No, I will still have it, but I think I
might have kept it for he left him a Billionaire.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Boys T shirt Yes eight two eight oh twenty two
eighty seven. Let me ask you guys about about cow So,
you know, the end of the Cow era was tough
here for a lot of reasons. But I know you
guys love him, So give me what did you think
seeing that from Afar kind of knowing what it was like,
(17:39):
and then sort of what do you think about him
being at Arkansas? Like what's that like for you guys?
Speaker 6 (17:45):
I felt like it was a weird situation.
Speaker 7 (17:47):
Just I got so accustomed to him being at Kentucky
and uh, I know at the Toys of end of
things got a little rocky, And to be honest, to
see him in Arkansas is still kind of weird for
me to see right now.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
It's taking some adjusting, but you know, I hope the
best for them.
Speaker 7 (18:01):
Like we said, we'll still go down support him because
that's our coach, that's what we play for. But like
we announced already, we still big Blue Nation forever.
Speaker 8 (18:08):
Yeah, like he said, man, it's real weird. We see
him in that red like I always see him in blue.
But we still keep in contact. We always go support them.
I hope you have the great season.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Is there a connection, like I assume there is. But
when you were in the league, or even you're overseas
and you run into a Kentucky guy, even if they
didn't play with you, is there a connection there?
Speaker 6 (18:28):
No, that's a brotherhood.
Speaker 7 (18:29):
Like it's like you said, it's guys that I've never
met in my life, but we see each other. We
greet each other and we talk about playing at the
school and are you watching the games.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
It's like a brotherhood.
Speaker 8 (18:38):
Even when I'm overseas when I see when I play
against the Twins and Willie stuff like that. When overseas,
when I see them on mute them, we go out
have fun.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
So I see. I love that. It's like guys like
the Twins and Willy that you would have that connection.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
Always keep in contact with everybody, even the younger guys.
Always hit them up. Talk to the don't give him advice,
stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
So like when Kentucky's playing the other night, like are
you guys like yelling at the TV?
Speaker 6 (19:04):
Like, yeah, were locked in.
Speaker 7 (19:05):
We're fans now, so you know we're big time Kentucky
fans and we hope they win every game.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Yeah, give me a good cow story, ah Man, good
Cow story that trip. I remember.
Speaker 8 (19:23):
I remember my freshman year we were scrimmaging and I
was I was like going at Brandon Knight like I
was doing my thing versus Brandon Knight. This one practice
he said, he said to Rob Strickland said, Damn, I
didn't know he was that good.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Like wow, Like I didn't know he was that good.
And I'm like, what, like.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
You're the one that probably here, like.
Speaker 8 (19:41):
You don't think I'm that good? Like it was just
it was just weird to me though. But that was
one of the crazy stories I had.
Speaker 6 (19:47):
My crazy Well this is kind of KP and Cow.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
But anytime we running the offense, anything any mistake, any
turnover with scrimmage and you get beat on the back door.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
We had this treadmill sits next to the court.
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Speeded fools stops practice.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
Everybody gotta watch you.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
You run to the treadmill, almost fall because it's full speed.
You run on it for hover long. Throw you right
back in practice. You've got you know after treadmill. Yeah,
you can't play mess up again. He throw you right
back on the treadmill and he goes crazy on you.
So my biggest thing from playing with Calvin practice was
that treadmill.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
I can't forget it.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
When you went to the NBA, what was your welcome
to the league moment? Both of you guys were in there,
What was the moment where you're like, oh, no.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
Ben Gordon, Oh my god, he scored four times in
a row on me.
Speaker 8 (20:31):
That never happened in my life, like for in a row,
like boom boom, boom boom, Like it was crazy, like
four different three points in my face step backs.
Speaker 5 (20:39):
I'm like, oh nah, this is crazy. They called a
time out.
Speaker 8 (20:43):
My veterans like, yo, don't worry about a rook be okay,
don't worry about it.
Speaker 6 (20:46):
So you called Ben Gordon, I called Rondo.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
So when you play Rondo, he might not score the ball,
but he's going to dominate the game in so many ways. Rebounding, assistant,
picking up fool. It's like, god, Lee, I can't keep
up with him. He's all over the court. My uh,
and I got a lot.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
Of trash to He didn't talk to me because he
knew he'st Kentucky.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
Yeah, but I got through in the middle of the
game because Nate Robinson got ejected. I wasn't gonna play
the game, Nate Robinson got ejected in the third quarter.
Speaker 6 (21:12):
I'm chilling.
Speaker 7 (21:12):
I'm I'm not thinking I'm playing at all. My shoes
and not even tied her it talk my shoes tip
like Harry, what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Real?
Speaker 5 (21:18):
So I run in.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
I got roan though, I'm on the court like starstruck
co I'm playing Rondo first off and he starts doing
all this stuff picking me apart, being so smart.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
That was my welcome to the NBA.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Do you did you actually like never sleep?
Speaker 5 (21:32):
No? I was. I was real big on team no sleep.
Speaker 7 (21:35):
He never slept. And if you sleep around me, I'll
wet you the water on your head. I'll really my team.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
So when did do you never sleep? Or you sleep
during the day? What I take?
Speaker 8 (21:47):
I take like little naps man there, But I'll be
up all night like I'll be up all night, wake up,
follow in the morning, stay up practice at eight.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
I'm going to practice.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Like every conversation that has about who the best pure
shooter is at Kentucky, It'll be like you Booker Reeves
last year, like guys like that, and you know, maybe
even you go Brad might get in the list this year.
Where do you think you are on the list.
Speaker 5 (22:11):
Let me be real with y'all.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
Be real.
Speaker 8 (22:15):
I feel like I'm the best shooter because I only
took I only shot four attempts from three point line,
like only, I mean, I averaged two makes. Nowadays, I
see the guys showing eight attenpts ten attempts. Like, if
I shot ten attempts three pointers, I'll make at least
five or six easily.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 8 (22:33):
So I wasn't even shooting. I only shot eight nine shots. Yeah,
I'll be seeing Tyler Harrow. I'll look at this eight
nine threes. I'm like, damn, eight nine threes. I have thirty.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
So you're putting yourself first.
Speaker 5 (22:44):
I got it put and I shot fifty percent from
the three point line, and I played with.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Dudes.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
I gotta make my shots. I missed. I got two points.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Yeah, he took the fourth most shots. You know. That's
what Calais would say about that. Oh listen, I loved you.
You guys were part of not only that champion, but
really during our growth. It's great to see you both here.
I wish you the best. It's the back court connection
on YouTube. Go to YouTube and watch it, you guys,
are gonna have a lot of the of the of
(23:12):
the you know coming those coming out in the next
few weeks, right.
Speaker 7 (23:16):
A lot of guess, a lot of Kentucky guys that
y'all gonna like to see.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Back court connection. It's on YouTube. Hey listen. Great to
see you all appreciate it. Thank you, guys. We'll see
take a break right back.
Speaker 11 (23:26):
It's TJ.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
He'll make them pay now more of Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Here's Matt Jones walk. I'm back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
I thought it was great, didn't you, guys?
Speaker 2 (23:43):
It was awesome. It's one of those interviews you wish
would not stop and keep going get into some stories.
But I guess that's what their podcast is all about.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
That's exactly what their podcast is about. I like they both.
I'm glad it's always neat. I think it continues to
be cool to see the guys who still are connected
here even though their coach is gone. Drew and uh
uh Dauran seem to not know that you have had
his mattress for a.
Speaker 10 (24:06):
That's a that's a weird, weird thing to bring up.
I can understand why he'd not not have it or
not understand that. But it is fun with them and
really all of them when they've gone on, because when
they're here and you interview them, there's it's rained in
a little bit like Collin Louisville an easy game in Kansas.
They never would have said that when they're here, but
now they get a little past it. You get these
stories and what they really thought while they were While
they're around.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
I love their stories about when they see somebody that's
a Kentucky guy, you know they're playing against them, they
go out to eat before the game or after game.
It's that brotherhood that but that deep bond they've got
because they played here.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Yeah, they're signing stuff for folks now, so if you
if you can, it's a pouring rainstorm, but you would
have to get in here. If you can get through
the rain storm. They're being very generous with their time
going around and talk to cool.
Speaker 10 (24:50):
They're going to practice too. Yeah that's ah. I bet
I bet Lamb will love watching the way they play
and shoot. As he said, if he could have gotten
the attempts.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
I should have asked you about that he would have.
Can you imagine you were just shot in this in
this environment?
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Well, he kind of hit it to it. You know,
I see guys shooting eight or nine threes. I shot four.
I made two of four. What if I got to
shoot eight or nine, I'd make four or five a game.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Yeah, his percentage is still absolutely awesome. EF I'm nine two,
twenty two, eighty seven. Who's up next? Adam, Adam, go ahead? Adam?
Speaker 12 (25:19):
Hey, Matt h first time? Long time?
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Who are so.
Speaker 12 (25:25):
This? This sounds like it's going to come out of
left field a little bit, But I just I kind
of wanted to call and give a perspective outside of basketball.
You know what park Mark Pope is doing for the
fan base here. My dad passed away back in August,
and you know, we we bonded over over UK basketball,
UK sports, and this year with football being down, it
(25:48):
kind of was indicative of what the past five or
six months has been like just but terrible. But you know,
Mark Pope comes in and he kind of gives this
hope and he and he wins his first three games
and beats Duke, and it kind of just, you know,
it's really hard to put into words. Kind of what
he is doing for the fan base and kind of
the joy that he can bring to us even outside
(26:09):
of basketball, and I just kind of wanted to share
that and say that I'm really thankful that he's here
and I really appreciate what he's doing for BBN.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Totally agree with you on that. I don't think I
appreciate the call there is. You know, basketball, let's be honest,
for most of us, is much more than just, like
you know, just something we just kind of watch and do.
It can have a greater impact and it's good to
feel that again, Drew within this kind of UK sports community.
Speaker 10 (26:37):
Oh yeah, we all know this fan base. You lose
a Tuesday night game you shouldn't lose, and it ruins
your entire week. You're at work on Thursday thinking about
what went wrong and how can we fix it in
the next game. It's more than just that two hours
they're playing. It matters much more to everyone around in
this audience.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
I said for years, the psyche of our entire state
largely depends on how some eighteen nineteen twenty year olds
play basketball.
Speaker 6 (26:57):
On a weekend.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Pope gets it, and he gets it. That's why he
wants to win these games, every single game, as much
as we want him to win.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
So what I mean, what happens like after this? You
know there's so much positivity right now, they're gonna lose.
It will at some point, I mean, but they're probably
gonna lose that week that we're on the road sometime.
What do you think everybody's gonna be like, does the
Duke game give him, like, yes, a long leech froward. Yes.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
I think it definitely gives him a pass. The honeymoon
has been extended a little farther because they beat Duke
the other night.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
I don't think there's any I think figures seen doubt
about that. I think it gives them like a long
period of time where people are just gonna be like, well,
that's all right, we beat Duke.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
I'll even go on to say, let's just say they
happen to lose Clemson and Gonzaga both, we're still on board.
We're not, that's true.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
I don't think people would be jumping ship. I think
a lot of it's about how you play in those games.
I don't think all losses are created equal, especially in
college basketball, where there are so many games. There's a
difference between losing at one, you know, by one on
the road at Clemson versus like you're not competitive in
a game.
Speaker 10 (28:03):
Yeah, and I was kidding about forty to Oh, they'll
lose a game, but the fan base won't care when
they do. At this point, you can't have a better
start than beating a duke team when you're a six
point hunderdog with the number one overall pick at the
Champions Classic where you hadn't one in five years. That's
how you're starting your game with your your your career,
with your first thing that you win.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (28:21):
I think that he's got a lot of good will
moving forward.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
What about the story about Bronnie James. He's playing on
the G League team, but he will play no road games.
He will stay in Los Angeles and only play the
home game so that he can continue working out at
the facility.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
You got to talk about some locker room issues. That
alone sets him sets him up for some locker room issues.
Not want to travel with the team because you don't
want to fly commercial on me.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
To be fair, they didn't say because he didn't want
to fly commercial. That was like what the writer kind
of added in there. But they said just because he
wanted to work out at the at the thame.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
I don't buy it. I think that's a I think
that's a whole horrible look by him.
Speaker 10 (29:02):
He's already got so much against him. Just just participate
like you're a normal person. You can't play half the
season and think that's gonna work like that. We already
know the treatment you're getting. At least pretend you're like
everyone else on the roster.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't. They're not doing him
any favors, right, Like you're not like if you want
to make that do that kid a marketable whatever? Like
you can't you? I mean, who is I don't want
to say no, people are rooting against him because he
seems like a good kid, like, but I just don't, like,
why do you think that benefits? You know what I mean? Like,
(29:37):
how does that benefit?
Speaker 10 (29:38):
It doesn't at all.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Yeah, there's not one benefit from that. You're you're causing
your teammates not to like you, not want to be
on the team, not to be one of your teammates.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
I just that I don't know who made that decision,
but I think that's a really terrible decision, uh doing and.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
If it goes the other way, goes flies with the
team driving a bus or whatever.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
I think he he'll be more respected.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
You know, they'll they'll know it.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Yes, no doubt about it. Who's up next, Nathan, Nathan?
Go ahead, Nathan, Yes.
Speaker 9 (30:10):
Sir, I just uh, I kind of piggybacking off of
what what the past guy said. Kentucky basketball bonds me
and my father together greatly. That's the one thing that
we look forward to. Whenever we first hired Pope. I
think we kind of have the same thoughts, the same
feelings as you guys. We we weren't crazy about the hire,
(30:31):
but two three games in the season, we're we're loving.
You know, Kentucky Basketball's back. Those guys are playing for
the name on the front of the jersey and not
the name on the back.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Well, there's no doubt about that. I mean, there's no
doubt about the sort of the loving the idea of
playing for Kentucky. This group has certainly embraced it.
Speaker 9 (30:53):
Yes, sir, and the they never quit and that's what
that's what's got me highed up about this season. You
hear talk about it in their interviews. They're crazy about
playing a Kentucky and it was.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
A dream for him.
Speaker 9 (31:05):
Yeah, that's something that coach cal had built for him.
But one thing that I want to add is what
was your thoughts on the testicular fortitude of coach Folks
with the inbounds play thrown from from Braya Man.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
I mean just giving having the guts to throw that
pass and like to get and not just to throw it.
I mean he said Brayam made the decision, but to
give him the opportunity, right. I mean, you know, not
a lot of coaches would say throw that pass. It's
it can be a smart thing to do. You got
fifty percent of the court down there that's open, but
it is you have to have a lot of trust
(31:39):
in your player to let him throw it right there.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
And again maybe that's the fifth year senior in him,
he knew he could make the play. Otega, he had
trusted him and he's gonna make the catch. So that
was that was one of those what we said with
the Rick Rick play from when Coach Paul used to
use it all the time.
Speaker 10 (31:53):
I saw I don't know if Pope pulled this up.
Maybe he did, but I saw in social media yesterday
last season Duke was in that same in Miami. Threw
over the top and it worked perfectly. I wonder if
Pope that's seen a little of that last year and
knew that was an opportunity and told Bray like, hey,
if that's there, it'll work.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Yeah. Black Fridays around the corner and corn bread himps

here at the KS bar and grill open for lunch
in a pouring rain day. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Walk back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. A five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, text machine seven
seven two seven four five two five four drawing and
(32:54):
Mark's over there eating the wings. I said, are they good?
He was like Mars, like yeahs Town. That is a
crazy story. I just tweeted out we have a new
server here named Mason, and they just sent me a picture.
Mason and are remote ten years ago this month and
he uh, he's a little kid and now he's working
(33:14):
here and I'm still the same.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
And it's kind of crazy to see him in that
photo with you ten years ago. Now he's here working,
just former Hanover college football player.
Speaker 10 (33:25):
Also, yeah, so there you go Hanover football. Huh. You're
a big fan of that program.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
That program.
Speaker 10 (33:31):
Any updates.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
We're going to Mount Saint Joseph this weekend.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
For your recruiting visit. Yeah, all right, well, good luck,
good luck on that eight fun nine two twenty two
eighty seven. Ryan, You're I don't want you to be sad,
but Spirit Airlines has declared bankruptcy, and uh if I
think if anyone could have seen that coming. Shockingly, fifty
dollars for a flight to China does not work economically.
(33:57):
Are you are you sad that that it's gone? Well,
I'm a big not gone yet, but then it's in bankruptcy.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Allegiant and Frontier my first two choices when I want
to fly, I want to fly Allegiant or Frontier Spirit those.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
Two choices, like regardless of cost. Oh yeah, oh, you
pick Allegiant over Delta, even if it's the same problem.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Oh yeah, I mean Delta. I know they give you
that nice, warm chocolate chip cookie and I like that,
but nothing compares to getting a fifty dollars one.
Speaker 10 (34:23):
I was just on a Delta two days ago.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
When you've been on a war gotten a warm chocolate
chip cookie.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
I just my dad. I told you how long I've
been flying on a Delta flight. Well, you're gonna fly
one back from Seattle to Delta. SEEI the Delta American.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
But you're gonna be flying on the Monday morning flight
flight back.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
You're gonna think it's like the lap of luxury. By
the way, that is true.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
Out of all of our trips, I think we've only
flown one time, and we went to Boise. Then we
flew to Boise.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
We flew to Bois, you flew, we flew. You all
flew back from Vegas like we've we've flown. So oh yeah,
you don't, you don't, uh you know, you don't. We
we have flown a little bit.
Speaker 10 (35:03):
So we flew to Boston because Matt backed into my
car on the way there, and then you came straight
back as soon as we got there.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
Yes, flew to Boston and your house burned. So, uh,
by the way, your your your ad for Alarm dot
Com is on like national podcast? Are you feeling famous?
Like it's on? People tell me they're listening to like,
you know, Joe Rogan and here comes Ryan going, hello,
this is Ryan living Alarm dot Com.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
I told them I will do whatever they want because
that system definitely saved my house and saved my dogs
that day. So you want me to do a commercial,
You're gonna run on Joe Rogan, I'm doing the commercial.
What's gonna run on Joe Rogan?
Speaker 3 (35:37):
All right? Uh? That's good, all right. So tonight let's
do our Draft Kings Pick of the Night. It's Thursday
night football. You go to Draft Kings promo code KSR.
You can pick your pick the game the Commanders and
the Eagles. The Eagles are a four point favorite at home.
Draft Kings. Uh, bent responsibly and go there. They They've
(35:58):
I've been I've been doing pretty well on Draft Kings.
We're taking fade this this weekend. What do you got right.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Uh, If I had to pick one for our parlay
at ay, Saquon Barkley touchdown, the dude is just.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
So minus four minus four Eagles you're taking instead?
Speaker 2 (36:14):
That's the safest bet for me?
Speaker 3 (36:15):
Is all right? Wasn't the question? But that's okay, Drew,
who you picking?
Speaker 10 (36:21):
You know, I'll take the Commanders to cover here. I
thought them even on the show, picked Eagles to be
my super Bowl pick. They've been in a little disappointing
even though they just destroyed the Cowboys. I'll take the Commanders.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the Commanders. If you're giving me four,
we're gonna win. But if you're giving me four, I
think I got to take the Commanders.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Just give me a good game, couple of seven win teams.
But on the road for Washington, I think I'm about
the lean Philadelphia here.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Okay, So to one for Philadelphia, two for Washington, one
for Squon Barkley touchdown. That was not one of the questions.
Speaker 10 (36:53):
Was there, like minus two fifty for Barkley?
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Test all right, listen, whatever works for you. Wh Who's
next ship, Josh, Josh, go ahead, Josh.
Speaker 13 (37:02):
Matt, gentlemen, good morning. First, mat I hope your bears
are ready for another thirty point beat out at the
hand of the Packers, for the eleventh victory in a
row for my Packers.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Yes.
Speaker 11 (37:15):
Secondly, living in Indiana, what Marcus said up this shot.
Speaker 14 (37:19):
Being the crowning achievement of Indiana basketball over the last
three decades is unbelievably accurate. Whenever isay I'm a Kentucky fan,
without question, an IU fan will bring up that December
Saturday in twenty eleven. It is unbelievable how far that
program has fallen.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
And we beat them in the tournament. I mean, Mike, yes,
we lost the regular season game, but that doesn't matter
as much as the tournament. And we beat them in
the tournament, and they still point to they don't the
season game.
Speaker 11 (37:49):
They don't care. And that's the craziest thing is that.
But if you remember that team was supposed to be
a year away, that Hansboro Oladipot group was supposed to
be the crowd national champion in twenty thirteen, and then
they play.
Speaker 14 (38:03):
Out in the sweet sixteen.
Speaker 11 (38:04):
Then too, it is unbelievable what these people think about
a meaningless December game in twenty eleven.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Well, they were a year away from being a year
away because they still haven't gotten to that year that
they were supposed to be. But I appreciate the call.
It is amazing that there is no sadder statement about
the fate of Indiana basketball than the way drew they
hang on to that regular season win.
Speaker 10 (38:30):
I would be embarrassed if I were them at this
point because it's been over ten years and you're still
hanging on to that, Like have they been past the
first weekend of the tournament? And I mean they were
in the sweet sixteen the year they beat Kentucky of
all teams with ULYSS and that's it's time they've been
to the second If I were them, I would focus
on that more than the don't even bring that game up.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
They beat us in the NCAA tournament. They beat us
the last time we played them in They're right, they
don't even mention that. They only mentioned that game against
the twenty twelve title team.
Speaker 10 (39:01):
That's shows how far they're following. They're just hanging on
to that.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
What what they always say. I mean, I'm going I
deal with them my entire life. That made now cal
was scared to play us. That game made it the
word cow was scared because.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
Hate the rhyme. How many threes would you make in
Pope's system? By the way, ten? There you go. I
think that might be right. They would take so many
threes in the system they're playing. Now, who's next, Poe?
How are you, Pope?
Speaker 15 (39:32):
I'm okay. I hope you guys are too.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Thank you.
Speaker 15 (39:35):
I just wanted, yes, sir, I just wanted to say
something that I remembered Hope saying the quote. It was
either after the Blue White Game or or Madness before
Banner Weeks. But he said, we might not be the
most athletic or as I hate to use the word talent,
(39:57):
because there's a lot of the things that goes into
talent knowledge, basketball knowledge, experience also goes what if it
not just running and jumping. Yeah, that he did say,
well we might not be the most talented team, but
we're gonna be the best conditioned team for sure.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Well, they certainly were the Yeah, they certainly were the
best conditioned at the end of that Duke game. I mean,
I appreciate the call. If you go back and watch
the last four minutes of that Duke game, it's clear
Duke was tired. You know, they if you go back,
they didn't. They only played like seven guys significant minutes.
Two of them kind of got hurt or cramped during
the game. They were very tired, and I think even
(40:35):
if you look at Cooper Flagg's turnovers, Ryan, I think
you could see how tired they were.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
No doubt that the eight minute TV mark, you could
tell they had run out of gas.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
They were tired.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Pope gonna play looks like ten guys. You know, he's
got guys he can run in and out of there.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
And and Canipple he looked tired. Honestly. He had fourteen
points early and then really didn't score a buch after that.
Speaker 10 (40:55):
Yep, I rewatched the whole game yesterday because it was
awesome and they here at the bar really get to
hear as well and see everything. Watching it back and
kind of looking for certain things. They were very tired.
And it's like Kentucky new because Andrew Carr is attacking
right at him. Kentucky started pushing, pushing, pushing as they
have their hands on their knees and dealing with cramps.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
Eight five, nine, Well, no, wait minute, we got to
finish the show. If you go to Clark's Pumping Shop.
It is your best place to get everything you need
in terms of gas. They got Crispy Crunchy Chicken, They've
got fast food, Madness, Hanger, fifty four pizza. It's all there.
It's a one stop shop. They have a new Clark's
Reward app that you should check. They that you use it.
You can get mobile coupons and more, get fresh food
(41:36):
and go into store or the drive through. It's Clark's
Pumping Shop all around the state. Return, refresh, refuel with
Clark's Pumping Shop. Tomorrow we are at Whiskey Thief in Louisville.
Love to see the folks in Louisville come down to
New lou and see us. It's a good chance. We
only get to do show about once every two months.
There be it Whiskey Thief tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
Right, Yeah, Drew's already seen so it's an awesome place,
awesome facility. So I'm excited to see it for the
first time.
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Yeah. And then Saturday game is at is at one
thirty pregame show we'll start at nine to thirty. We're
opening the restaurant. We made it nine or ten.
Speaker 10 (42:14):
It was still being worked out last time.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
We're either opening it at nine or ten, but either
way the doors will be open at one of those times.
I think it's I want to say it's at nine.
I could be wrong about that. And then of course
Jake Paul or Logan Frank Frank, yeah, Paul, No, he
already fought too much. I'm watching that one, ran Paul,
and we'll be fighting on Friday night as well. Nice
(42:39):

a Lexi to appreciate you making the trip. And thanks
to Dorod Lamb and Marcus TG. Thanks to you two
as well for coming out. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
