Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
It's Revolution Day. Uh.

Smith Lawn. Call TJ. He'll make him pay.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
Come on out and have lunch if you're if you're
the guy that's standing outside right now, listening on your headphones.
You're welcome inside. It looks like he's looking trying to
decide whether he can come in. You're welcome to come in.
You'll hear this in about a minute and a half, Ryan,
and then I'll just tell him to come right in
the door.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
We got a guy here already that has that's.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
A cool sweatcheen like that.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
I've not seen that shirt I saw.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
This has nothing to do with anything, shockingly, but I
saw a Michigan State hoodie drew that had the Michigan
state mascot dribbling, and I thought it was really cool.
We need to get a UK mascot dribbling. I think
that would be a neat sort of alt logo. We
need better logos. I mean, that's one thing Louisville does well,
(01:46):
their cardinals dunking their cardinal.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
With the helmet. I wish our wildcat got a little
more activity cardinal doing the dougie. Yeah, like I think
we could.
Speaker 5 (01:53):
We could have. But you can still keep a wildcat.
But let him do stuff, you know, let him hang out.
He's an exercise. Yeah, have him go around. He doesn't
just have to sit there with his tongue out. He
can go do things right.
Speaker 6 (02:03):
Well, that's where everybody wants the phallic tongue to come
back to have a f He can move yeah, well yeah,
he can put his tongue in his mouth while he's
that's true. Is it good?
Speaker 4 (02:12):
He doesn't have to be Michael Jordan with his tongue
out back.
Speaker 7 (02:15):
In the day. He's doing all kinds of things. In
the logo, there's like holding the bourbon gallon.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Yeah, the old Kentucky logos, there's like one he's got
a cane.
Speaker 6 (02:24):
Yeah, yeah, there's one.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Where you're right, there's one he's like got bourbon. Let's
have our can't do some things, you know.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
And they need to kind of phase out the two
fighting birds anyway. That logo, the two bird logo.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
But you don't see that one as much anymore. You
talk about the birds having.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
To Yeah, yeah, at this kind of hen be kind
of kind of phasing that out.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
But I can't look at.
Speaker 7 (02:43):
It anymore since you said that, I think was it
was you wrote a post of all the things that
looks like that aren't a wildcat, Like one of them
looks like it's blow drawing his hair kind of got
his hair going back behind him.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Two birds making love. Yeah, that's right. Here he comes
see here is there you go? He heard it in.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
The in the thing, You're welcome to man five to nine,
two eight oh twenty two to eighty seven. So like
this weekend, there's there was a lot of stuff that happened.
But I mean, I feel like you have to start
with the with the football game. But I actually think
that was the least interesting thing of the things that happened.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
Yea, it was.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
The game was, by my estimation, six hours and a
half long.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
That was just the third quarter alone.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
It was.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
It was the longest football game. It was the longest
football game that I think has ever been played. In
the third quarter, they threw seven flags in a row. Yes, now,
of course they picked one of them up, which broke
the streak. But they threw seven flags on seven plays.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
Never seen that that.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
And the refs needed to chill, you know what I mean, Drew,
It's like, this game is thirty four to three.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Just pick it up, like, just let it go. It's
a no big deal. I thought we were all in agreement.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
That was a good opportunity to have a fun afternoon,
get out of there quickly, have your Saturday night ahead
of you. But the the refs didn't get the message.
They wanted to stay all night.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
Not a whole lot to say about the game, honestly,
I mean they didn't. They didn't play the best to start,
but then they started picking it up by the second half.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
They had guys in that I didn't know were on
the team.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
I mean it was like a choose your own adventure
of names, you know. There was at one point, I
think it was the third quarter, there was a guy
whose name was like a noo C Scott that made
a play and I thought, that person is not on
the team.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Now. They're just now, they're just screwing with his ride,
trying to.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
Make people up. I saw the Smith twins from Corbyn.
They both got in the game there towards the end
of the game. My big takeaway though, was jamari On
Wilcox because he literally had over two hundred rushing yards
they did not get called back on penalty. The dude
was crazy good.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Felt like he was kind of the breakout performer of
the game.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Don't you think like he if we're assuming we're able
to keep him, which I don't know if you can
assume that for anyone in the future, but let's assume
we can. He's definitely running back one going into the future.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
I don't know why they waited until the second quarter
to even let him get a touch. It's obvious he's
the most talented back they have. I hope. I don't
know the rules here, but I hope someone is already
out shopping for his house and whatever it takes.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
To get him to stay. Do you have to get
him a house, whatever it takes, I hope.
Speaker 7 (05:10):
Surely they have already been recruiting him to retain him
another year, but amp that all the way up, because
that is one they need to make sure. Don't even
let him know there is a portal. The portal is
closed for Jamerion Wilcox. You're staying here in like, didn't know.
The two guys that were calling the game. Not sure
they've I'm not sure they've done it before.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
First first, okay, I mean I'm gonna hopefully have my
first game coming here soon.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
On ESPN Radio.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
I was looking by the way at the Bowl, you know,
the ball like the setups because there's twelve teams in
the playoff now, they got to go deeper into college
football to get teams.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Oh, there were some games that if that's the one
we get assigned, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
And look like Boise or Detroit or somehow.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
I know I already know what they're gonna sign this.
I already feel it. There's a game in Detroit. See
that's close for both of us. There's a game in Detroit.
They're sending me a Myron today. Yeah, it's like the
Detroit Auto Bowl.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
I know I'm getting that one. He said.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
I'm gonna know this week they're gonna tell us which
games they will Yeah, they're gonna tell us which game
this week. But I just know, Drew, I just know
that's the one I'm getting. It's gonna be in Detroit.
I'm sitting here thinking, oh, maybe we get to go
to Bahamas or no, we're.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Gonna end up in Detroit.
Speaker 7 (06:25):
I just think you're probably never gonna get the Bahamas
right that.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
You don't think there's no way.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
You don't think there's a way I could advance up
the scale to get the Bahamas.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
I just feel like there's probably a line of people
wanting the Bahamas game. Detroit's good though, it's a football
town these days, good blue collar a lot of people
be tuned into the radio. Out working hard, A lot
of people tune into the Detroit I mean there's a
lot of football radio listeners while they're out building cars
and being Detroiter's.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Well, I think it's it's on nationally. So I don't
think we only have to get the Detroit audience. I
think we can get conceivably. Let me let me read
you some of the some of the options, because I
looked it up that the Detroit game is. It's called
the Detroit Bowl.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
Oh, very very creative.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
It's a sponsor.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
I think that means they didn't get a sponsor right now.
It says Michigan State Buffalo.
Speaker 7 (07:17):
You've already talked about Michigan State on the show and
their mascot.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
But I don't think what I worry about that game
is I don't think it's going to be closed like
so you don't. I don't think I want that one.
I'd rather have What about this one? Mobile Alabama sixty
eight ventures Bowl Wow projected right now to be Arkansas
State and Western Michigan.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
That that could be a great, great game, and you
had one more adventure, then you got the sixty nine Adventures.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Yeah, you pre make that joke every year. Shannony makes
that joke.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
That guy shook his head in the crowd because he knew.
Ryan makes that joke every time we read the Bowl.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
He's already reading the Dad Joke book.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Yes, that's why they don't assign you to it, is
that you will do that.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
Would you prefer a bow out so you could talk
about fast food restaurants? Well, that's a good point, I
would You don't want a close game where people are
really interested in everything you're saying. Yeah, respectfully, the isleta
New Mexico Bowl. Interesting enough, they've invited potentially New Mexico,
New Mexico against Texas San Antonio focus a lot drew
(08:19):
on the home field advantage that the people there of
New Mexico.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
You're already pro. Yeah. And by the way, there's a
new bowl shanding the Snoop Dog Bowl.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Oh I like that one. Yeah, I don't care.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Tucson, Arizona, Ohio, San Jose State.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
That's the one you gotta get.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
You can bring him on the air.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
Bringing him on the air, sitting the booths with.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Many would be oh, yeah, that would be cool. You
get to have snoop while you.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Do it, send that one.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
You don't think you don't think I get the snoop DOGG.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
But you're not that high on the pegging order yet.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
Man, you guys are not uplifting by yeah, all right,
the Boise Idaho. There's also a Boisier, Yes, Miami of
Ohio and Georgia Southern. But anyway, so Kentucky's not going
to go to any of these bulls. By the way,
I did see, I thought this was nice, you know,
for five win teams if they don't fill all the
bowl games with six win teams. They ranked the five
(09:08):
win teams by academic rating. Okay, okay, that's how you
feel it. So I was looking to see where we
are on the academic rating chart because they're gonna end
up taking a few five win teams, ok And I
was like, Wow, maybe we'll get to go to a
bowl anyway. I don't think people would be very excited,
but maybe we will. You don't have to worry about that.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
We're not going to continue.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
We are not in the top fifteen drew on the
academic rating.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
So the semester's not over. We're back half the semester.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
Yeah, that's right. We're a late second half.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
So I was thinking, you know, who knows, maybe we
rise the academic rating chart. Turns out this has been
a disappointing season drew in the academic rating chart as well.
Speaker 7 (09:54):
So are we more likely to overcome Texas and Louisville
to get a six win or more like to.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
A great question, I think looking at the academic rating chart,
we need to beat Texas. I think there's a better
chance of winning at Texas than rising as far as
we need to rise on the academic rating chart.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
For our pregame show listeners, might be time to put
Miles Butler back on the team.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Hope that up ye Jason.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
Miles Butler was on the pregame show. He said that
he got a scholarship his last year, but they told
him we're giving you the scholarship, but you have to
get a four to h because for the academic for
the grade point. They were like, you only can have
this scholarship if you get.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
A four point zero. We need you.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
It's a lot of pressure. Shit, you got to make
the kicks and get a four.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Oh, there's a lot of pressure. I really only know
this guy exists because I slapped him every time you
mentioned his name. That's the only thing I can remember
is me slapping him one night in Nashville.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
That's let's just leave it without any context, just say
you slapped him in the face.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Cutter Bowley, what did you think of him in the
second half?
Speaker 6 (11:00):
Uh? Showed some promise. You know, the guy's got a
cannon of an arm able to you know, escape the pocket,
roll out and made some decent passes. And if he's
our quarterback for the future, I think they can they
can work with him, build on that.
Speaker 7 (11:12):
I'm spending a lot of money to go to Texas,
so I feel like I get a vote on this.
I want Cutter bow Ley to be my quarterback. While
I'm sitting in the Nosebleazer, Oh you would start, you
would starting brock under throwing those two balls right away. Yeah,
pretty concerning. I know it might just be lingering from
something he has going on. I don't know, but that
was a pretty rough start to the Murray game, even
though one bounced into jose Canseco backwards for a touchdown.
(11:35):
I was concerning, and I'm just ready just see what
you have a Cutter. I know it's a tough spot
to put him in in a road game like that
against the third team, but whatever, he looked calm enough
when he came out.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
I wouldn't do that. I think that would be a
bad mistake. I think you, uh, first of all, with
his offensive line, you could get him hurt. But I
think there's also like I don't know that at Texas
is where you start a guy's career. But the other
thing is, I think you have to ask yourself who
gives us the best chance to beat Louisville, Because I
actually think beating Louisville, even if it's not for a bowl,
(12:06):
still matters, right, Yeah, I think it still matters to
our fans. I think it still matters, like we want
to still have that over them for recruiting and other things.
They're they're gettable still, So to me, you're gonna start
to quarterback who can give you the best chance to win?
And I still think that's brought vandergriff today.
Speaker 6 (12:23):
Yeah, I'm with you that that that's that's our bowl game.
That's a that's a big game of the year for
this football team. Where it's gone and I think Brock
does give you the best chance to win that game,
even though, like Drew said, he didn't play his best
against Murray State.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
But after those two throws, which I will grant you
were awful.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Yeah, both of those throws. I mean he didn't just
underthrow them.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
He underthrew him by like twenty yards, So I will
grant you those are both terrible throws.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
But after that he was fine.
Speaker 7 (12:51):
He got a little better. Yeah, but that could be
two interceptions to start the game.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
Could have but what of them?
Speaker 4 (12:56):
You know, they just look shamed to see if it
was a touchdown and that one, yes, But.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
Did he score right in the hands right touchdown?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
I mean, honestly, in the bread basket, that's true.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
He laid it right where we're supposed to do. They
can can't make the catch. Did he call this shot?
Speaker 7 (13:09):
I'm gonna leave this a little short and bank it
off Murray State's.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
I was a little concerned about the offensive line.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Murray is one hundred and twenty second out of one
hundred and twenty three teams and pressuring the quarterback in
one double A or whatever we call it.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
And they got to the quarterback a lot early. Yeah,
they did, and that was concerning to me. Actually, that
was very concerning to me.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Now it got better, but you know, I mean a
team that was pressuring no one got to our sec
offensive line early.
Speaker 6 (13:41):
He sacked three times three seconds.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Two of them he had no chance.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
So the the issues we've had with the offensive line,
the fact that they glare were a glaring weakness against
a team like Murray State just kind of tells you
where this team has been all your What a lot
of the struggles they've had all year goes right back
to that offensive line A five.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. The text
machine is seven seven two simps four five two five four.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
We'll talk more about the football if you want.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I'm gonna switch to some basketball because that's honestly what
people are excited about.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
I gotta make fun of how Louisville lost.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
If you listen to postgame show, I got to call
it live on the air. Maybe the highlight of the weekend.
We'll talk about it. That's next here on kshar Welcome back,
take you sports radio here at KS Bar and Grill.
You're welcome to come out and see us have a
little lunch. We had a good weekend at the sport.
I was surprised how big the crowd was, not just here,
(14:35):
although it was good here, but at the game. I
mean now, by the end it was empty. But at
the start of the game they had drew a better
crowd than I thought was gonna be there.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
Yeah, when I walked through right after leaving the pregame show,
the parking lot was terrible. I thought, no one is
gonna be here. I couldn't even find a tailgate to
stop and see people. It was like empty. But then
in that hour before the game, it's like everybody filed
in it. Once it ended up being a pretty good game.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
It's definitely a late arriving crowd. It was a late
arriving crowd here. When we started the pregame show, there
weren't many people, but by the end it was full.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
And then you know, we had people all day.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Let's I think I want to first make fun of Louisville.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
And then switch to basketball.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Okay, I'm telling you, if you want to hear unadult
rated Glee, go listen to my postgame call postgame show
call of the Louisville loss.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Because it was so unexpected.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
They were up seventeen with like nine minutes to go,
and then I checked, and all of a sudden I
saw they were up seven and Stanford had the ball, right,
So I'm like, I got to turn that on the
Stanford There was no one at that game. I mean
literally no one. There must have been like a science
fair or something. There was no one at that game.
And Stanford is driving down. They get a couple of
(15:49):
big plays, they score, they tie the game. Now I'm
on the radio saying, you gotta go for two. There's
like thirty seconds left, you gotta go for two. Just
go for two, like you're all are two and seven,
go for two the extra point. Yep, Louisill gets the ball.
I can understand Jeff Brom thinking they've got time to get.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
A field goal.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
But Stanford, you know that Stanford defense, Drew, you can't
just you can't just slice through that Stanford in Palo Alto,
like they used to say about Linn Camp, you can't
shut out lin Camp, can't shut out can't just slice
through that Stanford defense.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
So Stanford, it's Louisville.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
It's fourth and ten, but it's also eleven seconds and
so again I say, Drew, they need a common sense
person on the sidelines. I was sitting there, and I
know nothing about football. I was thinking, all right, you
might as well go for it, but you need to
make sure you use all eleven seconds, right, Yeah, if
(16:42):
you're gonna throw to the end zone, you better use
all eleven seconds because if you don't, they get the ball. Instead,
he throws a relatively quick pass. What are you doing?
Speaker 4 (16:52):
What are you doing, Jeff brom See, you.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
Give Stanford the ball at the forty five yard line? Okay,
eleven seconds or now five seconds? Stanford probably thinks just
don't do anything stupid because they don't have the arm.
They said the quarterback couldn't throw it that far. So
he throws a little short pass.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Drew.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
They're basically giving up, right if you throw that.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
That, they're giving up.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
They throw the pass, he goes out of bounds, and
for reasons that I do not understand, Shannon the louisvill player,
decides to become Kurt Angle and puts a guy in
the ankle lock.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
I was trying to figure out, what are you doing
in that moment?
Speaker 4 (17:30):
What are you doing?
Speaker 6 (17:32):
Like?
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Was there a fight before? Then?
Speaker 5 (17:35):
I have no idea. So he puts him in the
ankle lot trying to get him to tap, they call
a penalty uprisingly one second left in the game, So
now you're like, what a you know, what a ridiculous thing.
But he has a fifty seven yard field goal. Now
the dude's career along Ryan.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
Was forty eight oh.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
By, so you're like, well, there's no way he not
even gonna get it there. Louis's got to be thinking,
let's just let this dude yep, screw this up.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Instead off sides? Off sides, like way off side?
Speaker 6 (18:08):
Was it the same dude that twisted the ankle.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
To there's different dude.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Okay, So now they go from fifty seven to fifty two.
He kicks it, it gets over the bar by a millimeter,
which means he wouldn't have made it from fifty seven.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
They win.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
I go nuts, you did just because.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
I couldn't believe it, and Jeff Brown walks off and
Louisville basically guarantees themself a disappointing season.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
It was.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
I think it's one of the worst collapses of a
loss Drew I maybe have ever seen.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
I agree.
Speaker 7 (18:40):
I mean, I love it because it was Louisville, but
that's maybe the worst way I've ever seen someone lose
a football game, because it's one thing to have it
with twenty seconds and you have the ball and you're
on that side of the field and then you turn
it over, you fumble a mistake.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
But this was just dumb move. Dumb move, dumb move.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
At any moment they had a chance to just stop
being dumb and it would have gone over exactly piling.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
Up, there were like five moments Ryan that if you
just didn't do something really stupid, you would have won
the game. And they were like, what's the stupidest thing
we could do, Like, why let's try to make this
guy tap out on the sideline.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
It was unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
We all enjoy good Kentucky loss. But listening you live
on the radio was like you were You were like
a little kid at Christmas. He was like an early
Christmas present you got.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
I will freely acknowledge I get joy out of watching
a lot of joys and.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
I and maybe that makes maybe that makes me a
bad person.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Nah, I mean maybe it does, but I get joy
out of watching their defeats and I and I think
it's just like Jeff Browm doesn't seem like a bad dude.
I like his brother a lot. But there's just something
about the way, you know. I think it's because they
always go, we're back baby, rule of a football. Keeni
(19:52):
won those games. Now we got the Broms together, it's
all coming again.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
We'll get you now.
Speaker 5 (20:02):
And like the fact they do all that and then
they blow the game at Stanford, Drew, I just think
it makes me very happy.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
Bow as you get that.
Speaker 7 (20:09):
Those are some of his most animated facial expressions I've
ever seen.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
Make sure you post that, Mario.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Oh no.
Speaker 7 (20:15):
We can all their failures and they keep finding new
ways to fail. That's why it's not like we're seeing
the same movie over and over against tiring. They keep
doing new releases of failure that we get excited to see.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
I mean, it was almost like they The only way
they could have done it worse is if Jeff brom
hired Katina Palell in between the plays so that she
could get them in trouble in between the plays for
another fifteen yard penalty. It was it was amazing.
Speaker 6 (20:38):
Against a bad Stanford team. Oh horrible Stanford, and nobody
in the stadium.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
It's not like the crowd mattered.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
You could in the broadcast, you could hear individual fans
going wow, that was stupid, and.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
Then they got to deal with their getting dunked on
with like there was a meme like Cardinals better than Cardinals.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Like, yeah, that's out of here. It's like you have
Stanford Athletics.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
I also saw somebody one of their fans had tweeted
out Louisville postgame party at a place in Palo Alto. Shannon,
wouldn't you have loved to have gone to that? Oh,
that had to be a happy postgame party, you.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Think, Yeah, what do you think they're gonna be doing
to that party?
Speaker 5 (21:15):
I don't know, but it had to have been great.
So I did enjoy it. Louisville. I'm not gonna lie
to you. I did get some enjoyment out of watch.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
You got a lot of enjoyment at the end of
that game.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Who's up first, Let's go to Sherman.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Sherman, how are you, Sherman?
Speaker 8 (21:30):
I'm doing well, sir. I did not know you all
had a ghost guest host in Roscoe Peak cole train today,
but happy to be calling in on that. Yeah, that's right.
I was at the football game Saturday. I've guess season
tickets and uh just want to talk about a great
American hero. John Short saw him there and he looked
(21:50):
good health, and it was good seeing you there, John
cats By ninety.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
It was people around Yes, I'm glad you heard the guys.
You got to see.
Speaker 8 (22:01):
Talk talking with people around me. We all identify that
it's the line issues that are causing our ebb in
the season. But could we discuss what our defense looks
like next year because we're losing a completely new Geordy
of our front seven.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
Yeah, completely new the defense next year. I appreciate the call. This,
I mean has to worry you a little bit. It's
gonna be completely new, Drew. It's gonna be a lot
of young guys, a lot of guys that have played
spot minutes this year. The secondary has actually gotten a
lot of experience due to injuries this year. But the
front seven, it's gonna be a completely new group of
dudes next year.
Speaker 7 (22:39):
Yeah, you gotta assume Dion's moving on. Actually this year,
just we learned Saturday, Derek Jackson's out for the rest
of the year. That's kind of been the captain of
your defense. Nobody saw that coming. But then even around
the pieces moving on, there's some youth you like, but
they haven't played much football.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
Yeah, you're at least gonna have a secondary that's experienced.
Speaker 5 (22:56):
Yeah, but the front seven that's gonna have to be
some portal pickups and young guys stepping up.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
We'll take a break talk some basketball. Right for this KSR. TJ. Smith,
personal injury attorney called TJ. He'll make them pay.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Here's Matt Jones.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. Let's talk some basketball for
a second. Right, enough being sad about football. The last
night they released the video of the like UK Duke Journey.
You know, I enjoy those. This one was fourteen minutes long.
Maybe a turn around a little quicker. I mean it
was like five days later, but you know what, it
(23:35):
was worth it because you got to see, you know,
highlight breakdown, I think.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
But I think the story of the video.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
If you haven't watched it and you need to watch it,
it's on KSR, you should go watch it. Great great
video that UK has produced. But the story is always
drew them behind the scenes, right, Like it's always what
you see Mark Pope and the coaches do the thing
that everybody's gonna take from it is both at halftime
and then at the last I'm out, he says, when
(24:02):
Cooper Flag gets the ball in the middle of the paint,
he's going to spend let's rip it out of his hands,
and of course that's what ends.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
Up having exactly what happened.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
Now, what I loved about it is he you know,
I've been watching basketball a long time, and I'm sure
Mark Pope's not the first person to say this, but
he's the first person that I think I've heard say it.
He said, reach in with two hands and grab the
ball because they're less likely to call a foul if
you do two hands than if you slap at it
(24:31):
with one hand. First of all, that's probably correct, and
I'd never really thought of it like that. O Way
still used one hand. But you know what, it worked
because he gets the steal. But he coached them at
halftime and said that, and then he says it on
the play right before Flag does it. It's just so
cool to see a coach make like say something and
(24:54):
then watch.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
It come to be in the game. It's that preparation.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
He knew the movie was gonna make and assume through
going from to his referee sposiums, he knew which way
that they needed to play it. Even says like kind
of get your whole like lean into it, gets your
whole body in there, which O way does even though
he uses one hand. He took half of his advice.
But that and at halftime when he's he keeps saying,
use your championship chest.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Championship chest. What does that mean?
Speaker 7 (25:18):
He was saying build your wall because they I guess
they were penetrating a lot. Yes, he's kind of, you know,
bulk up. I don't know why, but I was on
the couch flex and my own check. I had pulled
it up on my phone, just like I would normally
watch it off Twitter. When I saw it was fifteen minutes,
It's like, oh no, we're getting We're sitting down on
the couch.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
And put it on the TV. You put it on
the TV. Oh it was.
Speaker 7 (25:38):
It was a big cinematic reveal at the house. I
watched it twice back to back. It was so exciting
just those things are so detailed. Anyway, now we have Pope,
we're gonna learn so much about just what their their
game planning was and all these games.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
He just he's so prepared. I mean, he broke down.
He probably did the same thing for Buck now he
did it for Duke, and he knew they had the
game plan. He knew their game plan, he knew what
to do. And the players listen that our basketball IQ
on this team is very high and calling the spin,
yeah like that.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
You have to have done your research to call the
spin like you have to, I mean, have known enough
to say when he makes that move, he is likely
to spin and it happens in the perfect, perfect moment.
Speaker 7 (26:20):
It's the preparation we're gonna learn through all of these heck,
just his regular press conferences and in his post game
with Tom Leech the other night, we're learning so much
that we never really learned before about what they're actually
planning on going into in these games, what they're changing
mid game, even at halftime. He was talking about, like
we're getting killed in transition. We have to adjust in transition.
(26:41):
Everything was not so much just fight, go play hard.
It was very specific of what they need to fix.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
So what do you where do you think will be
ranked today? The rankings will come out right after this show.
They'll probably be out like one o'clock something like that.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Where do you think we'll be ranked.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
I'm gonna say I think we should be like eight
or nine.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
You better put us ahead of Duke.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
Let me just say, I hate when they do that,
when you beat a team and then they're ahead of
you in the ranking. They better put us ahead of Duke.
But I'm gonna say eight, nine something like that.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
What do you think.
Speaker 6 (27:10):
I think they're definitely a top ten team. I was
gonna say ten or eleven, So I mean we're in
the same ballpark they were. How much they're gonna jump today?
Speaker 4 (27:17):
I ain't go correct top ten barely. I'll say ninth.
Speaker 7 (27:20):
CBS had them eleventh already in ESPN eighth, so it's
kind of shows just some yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
I mean it should matter who you've played.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
Early in the year, right Alabama loss to Purdue.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
I watched that game.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
I had a pretty big wager on Alabama, so I
was bummed. Alabama was up seven and in two minutes
went from up seven to down seven and ended up
losing the game. With Clemson, who we play, lost by
twelve to Boise State that I still think that game's
gonna be hard, just because it's in their arena. But
that was kind of a little bit of a surprise
(27:54):
to see Boise State not just win, but win by
a decent amount.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
That game at Clemson. I mean, they're used to duke
in North Carolina coming in and every other year at
the conference. Kentucky didn't come there. That place will be
crazy because Kentucky's coming in there on Tuesday that Tuesday night.
Speaker 7 (28:07):
Yeah, so, uh, Hio State got killed? Would you say,
Ohio State? Well, they played A and M, but they
lost by fourteen or fifteen.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Yeah, A and M kind of handled him. Obviously, we
will play both of those teams. Uh did you see Shannon?
I thought you would like. Saint John's played New Mexico,
which is old Rick Patino versus Little Rick Patino, and
old Rick Patino won by sixteen points and at the end,
the student section chanted, who's your daddy, it's Richard Patino.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Did you like that?
Speaker 3 (28:34):
I loved it. I don't think Rick Patino liked it.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Trying to get him to be quiet, but I thought
it was funny.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Yeah, it was good stuff. I mean, I think we
can look forward to seeing that probably every year. I
think they're probably going to schedule that game each season.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
So you think, who's your daddy? Is that okay to change?
Speaker 6 (28:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (28:48):
I would have been out there doing the same.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Thing me too.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
You know, it's nothing, you know what nasty?
Speaker 4 (28:55):
It is his daddy?
Speaker 5 (28:56):
Yeah, not like like he could have said, he is
my daddy. It's on the certificates.
Speaker 7 (29:01):
The easiest taunt in sports. Saw Smith heard it, Brad
Caliperry heard it. We've done it to other people. It's
it's what you do when you got a father son
combination like that.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
So I thought it was great and uh Rupatino's team
might be pretty good actually.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
To start the season, and that was a good win
for him. Who's up next?
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Blue Grass?
Speaker 4 (29:18):
Bluegrass? How are you?
Speaker 9 (29:21):
I'm doing pretty good, man. I'll tell you what. Man,
the whole nation is getting behind Kentucky now, isn't it
just Eastern Kentucky. I think the world's sort of hearing
what we're shouting, aren't they.
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Well, I tell you, I think this is from my perspective.
This is just my perspective since the bar has been opened,
so since twenty eighteen, this is the most excited.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
I've seen the basketball fan base.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
Now, the football fan base has had some moments of
major excitement since then, But I think, I mean, I
think you have to go back to Fox Monk Bam
to see a team that fans are this excited about now.
Last year, as Reid started playing, fans got excited, but
there was still a sense of dread of like what's
gonna happen, and there was complaining about them coming off
(30:07):
the bench. This is like the most kind of excitement,
just sheer excitement I've seen since that seventeen group.
Speaker 9 (30:15):
But what a breath of fresh air. I mean, he
involves by being like he actually disbelieved that this team
is playing for us, and it makes us feel that way.
He's so genuous, and I think that's why everybody is
starting to figure out about him.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
I completely agree appreciate the cal right.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
I mean, I feel like he I mean, can we
can say over and over and over he gets us.
I think that's certainly true. But I think he's also
whether these guys were naturally predisposed to it or he's
been able to sell it to him. They do seem
to have like a pride of wearing the uniform. You know,
for all the talk about all nil, nobody's gonna care.
(30:53):
They're coming in for money, et cetera. He this group
at least certainly doesn't seem to be like that.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
This may end up being, even though they don't have
the stars, his best recruiting class because he had to
go out, you know, at the last minute and piece
together guys. But he got him to fit the system,
that understood what was gonna mean to put that jersey on.
We may look back to what he did this this class,
putting these guys together as a superior job.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
I think, you know, talent wise, maybe there would beat
them a couple players who knows have been better, worse, whatever.
But like from a character standpoint, I don't know how
you can't like any of these guys. I mean, the
curR is obviously the one that pushes the envelope, but
it seems like kind of in a likable way, right.
Speaker 7 (31:35):
Yeah, on the team stuff and playing for the front
isn't just some catchy slogan they're all saying. I thought
in that journey video you could really see it just
lifting each other up, pat each other on the back.
It even looked more like what kind of looked like
at the end of the game watching it. Jackson Robinson
didn't play well wasn't slouching or disappearing. He was trying
to pick it up in other areas and was still
encouraging to his teammates when his shot wasn't falling.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
So and it's easy to forget the second flag turnover,
it was Jackson Robinson. When he stepped on the inline.
That was Jackson Robinson right there.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (32:05):
You just it's not like they're just saying it in
press conferences because they know that's the message Pope wants
to get across. You can actually see him living it
and all these things we get to see.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
It's uh, you know, you bring in eleven guys, none
of whom know each other, right, and you put them together.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
That could go a lot of different ways.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
I mean, that could go that could be terrible if
you're not careful and it's worked out. And I think
part of it may be that they didn't know each other,
meaning like there wasn't like a click you had to
fit into. It was like, well, we're all in this together,
we might as well jump into the pool.
Speaker 6 (32:39):
Yeah. And I think our fan base is doing that too,
you know. I think our fan base for the last
several years, we're kind of almost a little afraid to
go all in because we we're afraid we're gonna get
hurt again. Well, I think now we're all in. That's
what you know.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
I think that's definitely true.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
And I mean probably the only two people that knew
each other when this started.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
Were Perry and Noah. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:00):
Probably the other guys they might not have known each
other at all, to be honest with.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
You, because I had Drexel San Diego State.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know how a lot of
they wouldn't have played each other. Maybe the kid from
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State knew each other, but that was
that would have probably been it. If you're a business
owner or hr manager looking for a way to attract
and retain top talent, Ryan, how about the Kentucky Chamber

Now it is the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. We'll take
a break and be right back to Kentucky Sports Radio.
(33:44):
Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio eight five nine, twenty two
eighty seven. Going over the events of the weekend. Our
teams are so sad. Drew the Bears. Oh yeah, Titans,
poor Bengals. Everybody's so sad.
Speaker 6 (33:59):
The Bears did they play Shannon?
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Oh yeah, the Packers.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
I knew we were by the way.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
I knew as we set up for that field goal,
I knew we were losing. I just and Cayrol Santos
rarely misses, but I was like, something's gonna something's gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
You know, the.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
Snap will be bad, the long snapper will fall down,
the kicker will be arrested, like I do, like something
was gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
And then of course he they they block it.
Speaker 5 (34:26):
Second game that's ended on a block in the last
two weeks with the Chiefs, Broncos. Last time we've lost
the Packers now eleven straight times straight. Wow, they got
a fire Eber Flues. First of all, got to get
rid of him. He stinks.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
Caleb look good.
Speaker 5 (34:44):
I did a good game, he did, but uh, you
know now, now apparently you guys did commit a penalty,
which I on that play that wasn't called, which I
think was cheating of you, Shande, but otherwise pretty another
frustrating Bears.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Well, let's talk about the penalty on the They had
twelve men on the field and the Packers still scored
on that play.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
That was a bat twelve minutes.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
We had twelve men on the field and it wasn't
the twelfth man running off the field. The twelfth man
was participating in the play, and the Packers still scored
and they were wide open drew even though we had
twelve men on Maybe we needed thirteen.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Yeah, football has not been conn this year to a
lot of us.
Speaker 7 (35:20):
Congrats to Shannon, but Bengals fans, Titans fans, Bears fans.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
I'm living my first ever tank.
Speaker 7 (35:26):
I've never been on a team that I want to
tank before, so it's weird actively rooting against my own team.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
But that's where I am, right But.
Speaker 5 (35:32):
We'll let us set a record the longest touchdown throw
by Kentucky quarterback ever in history, ninety eight yards.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
He's he's actually looking a little better.
Speaker 7 (35:41):
I don't know if he's the answer for the future,
but since he's come back from injury, he's had two
pretty good games. Titan's got host pretty bad on a
fourth down call in the end zone that allowed the
Vikings to score. But other than that, you know, we
just suck and I'm living with it.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
And then you know, the Cincinnati Bengals, Ryan, They're not
my team, but I kind of pull for him because
we have local fans here, et cetera. Last night, Evan McPherson,
who's been so good for them, uh miss his two
field goals but one that would basically have won the game,
and he and he missed it.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
You know, not goode.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
I'm kind of like you got kind of pulled for
the Bengals. Now, they made a heck of a comeback.
They were down a couple of couple of touchdowns, three,
they were down twenty seven six and came back to
tie it up. And I thought, he's automatic. He's automatic
Evan when he walked out through He's gonna hit it.
So is that his nickname? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (36:26):
I didn't automatic Evan. Well it doesn't work anymore.
Speaker 6 (36:28):
No, it doesn't work anymore.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
What about Ray Davis?
Speaker 7 (36:31):
Uh Thurman Thomas showed up wearing a Ray Davis jersey
to the game. That's pretty cool. Y d was legend
rocking your jersey.
Speaker 5 (36:37):
Chiefs lost so uh the the you know they needed
to lose one, Like they're still gonna end up being
the one seeds.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
There's they're gonna be fine, but they needed to lose
once they didn't have that baggage.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
Good game though, I thought Tony Romo, who I thought,
did a good job, he'd be like, you know this
this was that was Tony at his best where he's
like calling the plays and you knew it was gonna happen,
I thought.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
And that buffalo the craw in the environment for a
game like that is cool.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (37:03):
I like Josh Allen running to go back up by
two positions.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Great play.
Speaker 7 (37:07):
He of all people know, I ain't giving it to Mahomes.
I've seen this too many times. I am making sure.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
It got calls. Fourth and two.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
You kick a field goal there, you're making ma home
score a touchdown and if they don't get it, you're
giving them the ball.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
They'll get the field goal.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
I mean, if you don't get that, they're only twenty
five yards from the winning field goal. Goes for it
and then what a run. That was a great play
that I mean, that's probably his play that wins in
the MVP right this year.
Speaker 6 (37:33):
That's I didn't think about that. You're probably right, that'll
be the one that everybody remembers for sure. Can you
mention one more NFL thing we're talking to NFLF. You
want to Denver Broncos upset the Falcons and Devin Key
starting at safety the last couple of games, the Broncos
have turned it around til he started starting.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
Oh, you're giving him the credit for playing really well,
it's Devin Key at.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
Say, den Key starting safety has made the Broncos turn around.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
Do you think they give him that credit to?
Speaker 6 (37:56):
You can on your NFL show.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
I'll try to bring it up on Sundays.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
UK women get a big win against Louisville, first time
beating Louisville since twenty fifteen. Sold out Historic Davis Arena. Absolutely,
you know, going wild, Kenny Brooks said, one of the
best atmospheres of his life, maybe even better than the
atmosphere he's had when Virginia Tech went on its run.
(38:24):
I watched the most of the game, but then all
the second half and the overtime. You know that the
Kentucky defense so good, Yeah, and got the victory.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
It was awesome.
Speaker 7 (38:36):
Yeah, I actually thought that the third quarter of the
football game was gonna run through the women's basketball game
and ruin that crowd, But we were able to get
home and catch the doubleheader. At the end, when Dejah
Lawrence missed two free throws, I thought, do not let
it in like that. She's played so good this year
and those were two bad misses. But they held on
and one and overtime finally ending that drought.
Speaker 6 (38:55):
Big win.
Speaker 4 (38:56):
And yeah, they play again tonight and perdue Wayne.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
So that's on the computer if you want to watch tonight,
And that's that's here at Memorial. Not just had a
big crowd though Ryan were loud. Oh, it's a crowd
that was into it in a great atmosphere. I think
that's part of what the renovations to Memorial have done,
have made it a more cozy kind of like atmosphere
that can get loud.
Speaker 6 (39:21):
You know, that's wind beaten Lousvilane what like eleven ten years,
ten years, and to beat them. This is a really
good team. I mean, this is a team that can
make a big run in the postseason. So I think
the environment shows that there's gonna be a lot of
support for this team as he moved out throughout the season.
Speaker 5 (39:36):
I think I hope people now in those first couple
of games, the attendance wasn't great. Now, they didn't do
them any favors by having them played the same night
as the UK men's team, and at one point they
played at five o'clock, Like, that's not really a great
But then you started to see And by the way,
he got another commitment from a top twenty player, and
it was a commitment from what Myron told me. This
(39:59):
the the amendment we got on Friday was from a girl
whose mom and dad both played at Iowa and they
had sold her as being like the next Caitlyn Clark,
and she turned down the place where both of her
parents played to instead come to Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
Her dad's was a famous Minnesota Viking played there several years.
Chad Greenway, a linebacker. Her name's Maddie Greenway.
Speaker 7 (40:23):
Mad and something like that, big Madden, get the pronunciation right,
but yeah, big get. He had two commitments there and
then beat Louisville had Bryce and Tiller in the house.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
I mean, we're getting celebrities over there.
Speaker 5 (40:34):
The whole basketball team was there, which I thought was
really cool, So great night for UK women's team on Saturday.
Who's up next? Ed ed go ahead in.
Speaker 10 (40:45):
Hey Matt. Two questions and a comment. Question one who
starts at Texas? And question too would be you know what,
let's just skip down one comment and the comment was, man,
(41:05):
how wonderful is it when you watch basketball now? And
I'm I don't have to scream at TV that say
Perry do something different, So.
Speaker 5 (41:19):
I appreciate the call. I would say, a suit. I mean,
I don't see any reason not to assume that Brock
will be the will be the starter, don't you.
Speaker 6 (41:26):
I think you gotta go down there with the intent
to try to win the game and play your best player,
and he gives you the best chance I think to
win the game.
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Drew wants to start. I'm Tim Cutter.
Speaker 7 (41:34):
I'll be up at the top of one o eight
hanging from the light post in that stadium, screaming Bowie's name.
Speaker 4 (41:39):
I will say.
Speaker 5 (41:40):
I mean, now, I think if he doesn't, but you
also have I mean, don't forget you have Gavin there ye,
which which he was. They were sitting him out this
week just to get him healthy for these last two games.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
Look, if we were playing Texas, and Georgia.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
I might say let's just go with Cutter, but we
got we can beat Louisville. They think going to beat
them now like they've lost their confidence. So because of that,
I want us to have a chance to actually go
and beat them. And I want to put the guy
Brian who I think has the best chance to do.
Speaker 6 (42:13):
And in the big games this year, Ole Miss Georgia, Tennessee.
Brock has played fairly decent.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
He has played well in those games. That's true.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
All right, we're gonna take a break and we're gonna
come back. Our number two here at ks Bar, we
are now open. Come see us, and we'll be right back.
