Speaker 2 (00:59):
Myron Metcalf, not Matt Jones, filling in here on this
Merry Monday as Matt and Company make their way across
the country, flying in from Seattle after that wild Kentucky game.
So my goodness, that's what a comeback for the Ages.
As they say, just one of those spectacular games, and

(01:23):
we've had a few of them across college basketball. Kentucky,
North Carolina was very good, obviously, some good Champions Classic games.
I was in Vegas for Kansas Duke and that thrilling game.
I mean, we've just had some amazing games in the
first month or so of college basketball, and I hope
that means, Billy, that we're gonna get a great tournament,
right Like, I hope that's where we're all headed, for

(01:46):
a great Ntuba tournament, that this will continue through March.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Oh yeah, no, I you know, like you we talked
about in the first hour, it's pretty wide open, so
you got to think a lot of people are going
to be at play, a lot of SEC teams as well. Myyron,
I do want to ask you, are you a superstitious person?
Because the kiss are guys. They tried to break the
kissr curse over this road trip. They went to a
witch and she told them that they needed to burn

(02:11):
a candle for thirty to forty five minutes and as
long as they didn't blow out the flame, it was
going to break the curse and then which the Cats
ended up beating Gonzaga. Do you think that played a
factor in the Cats getting the win over the weekend?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
I don't know. I did see the video. Black folks
don't do all that. I'm not yet. We don't know.
We don't do all that.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
You go to a witch, now, I don't burn and
say that your candles.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
I ain't involved in none of that. I could had
I been on the trip, I wouldn't have gone in. Like,
I just I don't want any part.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Of you don't want to mess with that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, for me, that stuff can be real man, Like
I don't, you know, believe what you want to believe.
I just don't get involved. But I saw that they
did that, and I don't know is that going to
be the tradition. Now they got to go to a
witch or somebody age what do they call? I know
what they call him to break the curse every game.
I don't know about that. But now, black folks don't

(03:06):
do all that. I ain't doing all that, but I
am somewhat superstitious. But I'm not Ouiji board superstit. I
don't get involved in that.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah, I don't. I don't blame you. I'm not going
to New Orleans and getting the voodoo dolls out, and.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
I don't play with that stuff. I don't play with
that stuff. I was watching I remember, you know what
messed me up? If I'm being honest with it, What's
that messed me up? Was I was watching WWE Wrestling
and the Undertaker was in the ring and Papa Shango
came out and he had like his uh it was

(03:41):
like a voodoo dial thing or something like that, and
he starts doing it and Undertaker starts vomiting in the
ring like he had put a curse on him, right,
And I was a big Undertaker fan, like to me,
he was like invincible. And then Papa Shango was was
it Papa Shank or maybe it was Kamala, I don't

(04:02):
remember what it might have been. Kamala is like putting
a curse on him and he starts vomiting, and I
was like, yeah, I don't know what that is, but
I don't want any part of it.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
So it sounds like it's stuck with you since then.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It did no it did it did? Let me tell
you something else that's stuck with me, and I want
to get to the playoff at some point. It's some
more calls. I went to the waffle House during the
Champions Classic, and I tweeted about it. I think a
lot of people saw it, but uh, and even the
waffle house itself tweeted at me, really, which was which
was amazing. Yeah, the waffle house tweeted at me. And listen,

(04:41):
I didn't book a hotel next to the waffle house
because you know, I knew, like I didn't know it
was next to the waffle house. I just booked a
hotel near the arena. And then and then my Uber
pulls up, Billy, and I'm like, wait a minute, what
is that around the corner? That is a waffle house
like next door? Right? And again, all you spoiled waffle

(05:03):
house people, you all don't feel what I feel because
it's there for you, the closest waffle house for me,
seven hours away. But I get up the next morning,
I go to wahlf House. I'm probably there about eight o'clock, Billy,
You know what I mean early. I just got a breakfast.
You know, I'm figuring Okay, good night's rest, get up,
go to waffle hous. Sure, I come into waffle house,
all true, storm. I sit down and I can already

(05:25):
tell that they know I'm not a waffle house person,
because I'm looking at the menu, and she's like, what
do you want? And everybody around me knew what they wanted,
Like they all called out, you know what I mean,
whatever you all ow a waffle house, you know, you
know smothered bacon, you know waffle I don't know what
y'all do. I don't clearly I hadn't been to the seminar,

(05:45):
and she knew it, you know what I mean? Because
I was like, hmm, can you tell me about this?
Can you tell them about that?

Speaker 4 (05:51):
I don't think she liked that.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I don't think she liked it. I don't think she
likes me asking questions. I think I was asking too
many questions, I really do. I put I put Jodasy
on the jukebox, you know, I put some old some
nineties R and B. Maybe that also rubbed people the wrong way,
the wrong way. But she came back to me and
I still wasn't ready to order, So I don't think

(06:13):
I think she was ready to say, sir, go back
to wherever you're from, because we don't do all this
guessing at wilfele House. Finally I ordered, you know what
I mean, because I was just so caught up in
the moment, Billy. I was just so emotional to be there.
So I finally picked my meal. And then all of
a sudden, I'm sitting down at the counter, and you know,
this woman walks walks in, you know, someone who maybe

(06:37):
having some struggles. They give her some coffee and she
comes in and she sits down, and all of a sudden, Man,
I hear something hit the ground so hard, and this
woman had knocked all the napkins off the table and
they're just everywhere. And someone goes, not again, Tina, Right,

(07:03):
So I'm thinking, of my mind, not again. This is
a recurring thing, all right, So mind you, I'm new
to waffle House. I haven't been here enough. I don't know.
I've mostly just seen the videos. Somebody goes, all right,
go and get Big Larry. Who is Big Larry, Billy?
I don't know. But now I'm starting to wonder, did

(07:26):
I come to waffle House at the wrong time? Like
maybe I love waffle House, but I don't know if
I'm ready for waffle house, because it's eight o'clock in
the morning. All of a sudden, Big Larry is the manager.
Big Larry comes out and he goes, Tina, get up,
get out of here. You do this every morning, every morning.

(07:47):
This is just what y'all do. Tina sits down and
knocks all the napkins off the table, and then you
just come out and go get Big Larry, he says,
get up. So now Big Larry and Tina, kid, you
not are in the corner of this waffle house screaming
at each other top of that lungs. Mind you, I
don't have my waffle yet, but I'm sitting here Jodasy

(08:09):
on the jukebox, waiting to get my meal, and I'm
going do I leave? You know what I mean? Like
maybe I wasn't prepared to be at the waffle house,
Like maybe this is not something that I truly understood
was gonna happen at eight o'clock in the morning. They
are screaming at each other in the corner, and I
think people can tell Billy that I'm sitting there, and
I'm like, you know what, he's not from here. I

(08:31):
looked a little rattled. I think, you know what I mean, Like,
I'm sort of like looking around wondering if anybody else's
rattled in the other corner of the waffle house. True story,
one hundred percent. And maybe these people were there in
there listening. There was a Kentucky couple there and they
got you know, maybe older couple, maybe in the early sixties,
late fifties, and they got on their Kentucky gear the

(08:52):
morning of the game. And I kid you not, as
Tina and Big Larry are screaming at each other in
the corner, and I'm sitting here, rattled, wondering maybe I
don't belong at waffle house. Maybe I didn't go to
the orientation before I came, and I need to do that.
This guy in the Kentucky gear is like, can I
get some more coffee? He's not disturbed at all, Billy,

(09:14):
Like this is just a normal Tuesday for him. Now,
this does not rattle him at all. And I'm going,
wait a minute, you just ordering coffee as Tina and
Big Larry are screaming at each other in this corner.
And that's when I realized, Billy, that you can love
the waffle house but you may not be ready for
waffle House. And I didn't understand that until my trip

(09:36):
to Atlanta. I do love waffle House, I do not
know if I'm ready for waffle House. And I think
that to me, it was my lesson on that trip
to Atlanta for the Champions Classic, because you know, I
was like, what do I just leave? Do I just
put my money on the counter and walk out? Because
this is every day and I don't know between I mean,

(10:00):
me taking so long to order Jodasy on the jukebox,
the argument in the corner. I don't know if they'll
have me back, Billy Like, I don't know if they
want me back because they could tell I was an outsider,
and I don't know if they want that many outsiders
at Wafflouse.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Yeah, honestly, it sounds like the tamest waffle house experience
I've heard of. I mean, that is just what you've
got to expect when you go into these situations. Normally,
I'm there at like two three am, So the fact
that you were there at eight am, I'm sure it's
a different crowd, but you just got you got to
go in expecting that they have a guy named Big
Larry in the back that's gonna come out and handle

(10:41):
any situation that needs to be handled. It's just that's
part of the waffle house experience. And I can understand
how you were, you know, taken aback because you didn't
expect the waffle house to be right next to your hotel.
It was, you know, a magical experience for you that
ended up being a It was. Ah, it's like the
the cold plunge of of realizing what a waffle house
actually is.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
It's like it's like being invited to a toxics family's Thanksgiving.
You ever had that habit. Somebody invites you over for
a holiday, You're like, oh great, I'm gonna sit down,
watch the game, hang out, and then there's like two
couples screaming at each other in the middle of dinner
and you're like, I don't know that I should be here.
That's how it felt to me, Billy. And the fact
that Big Larry came out and said, you do this

(11:24):
every day, So you mean to tell me Tina sits down,
gets her coffee and just smashes the napkin thing onto
the floor every single day and this is just the norm.
Nobody told me that either, Billy, how come nobody told
me when I sat down. Listen, there's about to be
a situation, okay, And I don't know how you're built.

(11:47):
I don't know if you've been to the waffle house enough,
But there's about to be a situation because Tina is
about to knock these napkins off the table.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Every day.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Who's giving her napkins? Billy? Can I ask you that question?
If it's happening every day, stop giving a napkins? Right,
that should solve it. But her and Big Larry, I
kid you not. And if anybody was there, they can
verify are screaming at each other in the corner of
this waffle house. The Kentucky couple is like, hey, when
you get a chance, let me get some coffee. They

(12:19):
weren't They weren't rattled at all, Billy. The Kentucky couple
that was in the back, that was just normal for them.
And I was the one sitting there like, you know what,
maybe there's more I need to learn before I go
to waffle house, because if this is eight am, then
the one am I'm not. That's not for me.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Oh yeah, there's fistfights right next to the booth in
what you're eating in. I mean, it's that is what
waffle house is. But I hope you're not deterred. I
hope you try again and continue on at the waffle
houses when you're a near one.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
You all just didn't tell me the full story. So
I kind of blame people, I know, because you alwayd
hinted into stuff like this, But I didn't realize that
the level of normalcy for you all was like Tina
knocking napkins on the floor and Big Larry's screaming at her.
Nobody left, Billy, but nobody. If that happened in the Midwest,

(13:16):
in the Midwest, they would close the restaurant down. Like
in the Midwest, they would they would say, everybody out,
close the doors, we're gonna sort this out. We will
reopen at about two o'clock. Like that's what would happened
in the Midwest. They didn't close anything at the Wildfile.
So I learned a lot. I learned a lot, and
it was a good lesson.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
But you just make sure you have that order ready
next time. It can't have you going back and forth
with the waitress about what you should get. That's definitely
we can spot you from a mile away at that.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Point that she knew. She knew because and I think
I said, hmm, let me see, I think that's what
I said. And she looked at me like you're wasting space,
Like nobody comes in here and doesn't know what they want,
you know. And then and then I did this too, Billy,
all true story. I ordered, I don't remember what the

(14:09):
combo is? What, what's that? What's that? What's that thing
where you get the eggs, the toast and then a waffle? Okay,
the All Star Special? Okay. I ultimately ordered that. So
she brings the eggs, the grits, uh, the toast, right,
and then I go, okay, yeah, you know, and I'm polite,

(14:30):
you know, when you get a chance the waffle as
well as if she didn't know that the waffle was
a part of the All Star Special. So then I
get another look, like, why is this person sitting at
my counter like you think out of all the All
Star Specials I've served in my life that I'm gonna
forget the waffle? So I feel like I don't know

(14:51):
how this happened. Billy, I gotta be honest with you.
I somehow got a C minus at waffle house. I
don't know what happened, but I felt like overall like
they were grading me and I ended up with a
C minus.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
And just you know, well, I feel I feel like
I'm there and I and I'm living for her. I mean, honestly,
you need to be prepared with your with your order
next time. And that is the one thing.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
And I asked, I want, I said, the waffle when
you get a chance, as if she didn't know.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
It comes you to a little after Yeah, I mean
it takes a little longer than most of the stuff. Yeah,
it's just you'll pick it up the more that you
go to, the more you go to.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
But I thought maybe she forgot the waffle. And she
looked at me like, how dare you? How dare you
coming here with you in my house? Yeah, and think
that I forgot the waffle. It just it wasn't a
good overall look for Midwest people. And I'm worried because
I just wonder like, are there Midwest people being blocked

(15:50):
from that waffle house because of me? You know what
I mean? Are other people coming into that almost like
you know that episode with the soup guy. You know,
no soup for you exactly mid Midwest people now at
waffle house because of my behavior. I hope they don't
take it out on them, Billy, Well probably, I hope

(16:12):
I get another chance.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
I mean, I don't think you set the precedent, but
I'm I'm sure you didn't help you know, so I
wouldn't put the blame entirely on you.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Should I go back to that same waffle house at
some point.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Well, I mean they probably got your picture on the
wall at this point.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
They might, they might not want my business, but it
just rattled me that they said Tina does this every day,
and that would shut the restaurant down.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
In the Midwest, right, and when in their severe weather
in the South, and then you hear that the waffle
houses are closed, that's when you know you need to
start boarding up your windows and really getting to that's right.
I mean, if if waffle house is closed, and then
you should really you need to take cover and be
on the lookout.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Who is giving Tina napkins? Billy? If she's knocking the
dog on things off the table every day, who's giving
her napkins? Isn't that the first thing you take, Like
if you got a kid, right, who's painting on everything
you take away the paint brushes. So it's almost to
me if I'm being honest with you, and I don't

(17:15):
want to make any accusations on a show or make
any you know, allegations, But are they setting Tina up?
There's a part of me that wonders that, Billy, is
this a setup because you know, Tina's gonna knock over
the napkins and it's just just Big Larry likes to
scream at Tina and Tina likes to scream at Big Larry.
All I know is the Kentucky couple that was in

(17:36):
the corner didn't budge. They asked for some more coffee.
That was probably, you know, not even top twenty five
waffle house moment for that Kentucky couple, and for me
it was number one. And I just learned that maybe
the waffle house is for me, But there is a world, Billy,
where maybe I'm not for the waffle House.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
That makes me keep trying, keep trying, sad. It makes
me sad there's a couple of savvy veterans in the corner,
though it wouldn't expect anything Kentucky fans do.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I have to yeah, do I have to go with
waffle house people? Is that the way to go? Like?
Should I go with experienced waffle house people?

Speaker 4 (18:16):
You think, yeah, it would help until you learn how
to you know, hold your own and get your bearings.
I think any help would would. I'm sure it would
be great.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Next time I'm in Lexington, I'm going to reach out
to people. I want some waffle House people to come
with me to waffle House and you can show me
the waffle house etiquette so I don't fail the test
the way that I think I did. Uh in Atlanta.
I think we have a break here and we'll take
some of the calls on the other side of it.
Myron Metcalf back in the mix here on ks R

(18:51):
with Billy, I think we had some Uh, we had
a do we have a radio thing or something? What happened? Billy? Yeah,
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
It looks like we broke the radio station, Myron. So
I don't know if Big Larry had something to do
with that or maybe.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Or And this is I gotta really appreciate this. This
is the love I lost, by the way by Harold
Melvin and the Blue Notes, And let me tell you something.
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. They wrote that music
where she left like this morning, Like, that's the kind
of music they left, Billy. They wrote the music where

(19:29):
they came home to the house and all the stuff
was gone, right, everything's gone, her toothbrush, all her clothes, everything,
she took her pots and pants, Billy, Like, that's the
kind of music they wrote. And if you don't know
about Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and why it's
so significant, that was led by Teddy Pendergras who became

(19:49):
an R and B superstar. But they wrote some of
that music. But yeah, I don't know what just happened
with the radio thing. But do you think the waffle
House heard what I said? Maybe they got angry and
like are they doing something to try to disruptate?

Speaker 4 (20:05):
If anything, it was our breakfast sponsor, Wild Eggs that
probably didn't appreciate our conversation about waffle House and so
decided to just take us off the air. Hopefully we
are still on the air. It's just the commercials that
are having a tough time right now, so you know,
we'll continue forward. But I do appreciate you putting me
on Game Myron with the Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.
I'll add that to the playlist for the next date night.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Be careful. No no, no, no, no, no no. Harold Melvin
in the Blue Notes is not date night? Al Green
is date night. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Is
it's over music?

Speaker 4 (20:39):
You know I can't out to that place.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yeah, yeah, you know, that's what I'm telling you. Harold
Melvin and the Blue Notes. Is she left this morning,
but she gave you a slight sign that maybe the
window is still open. The door is still open, right, Like,
she's not answering your calls, she's not responding to your
text but she liked one of your Instagram stories kind
of thing, you know what I mean. So there's still

(21:02):
a little door cracked open. But you gotta go slowly.
But now you don't if you're good in your situation,
don't play Harold Melvin in the Blue Notes because it's
all like you know, it's all about missing people and
losing people. So that's not that's not what you want.
We got another call here.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
Yeah, yeah, let's go back to the phones. Jared has
been patiently waiting. What's up, Jared, Jared, how you doing?

Speaker 2 (21:26):
What's up?

Speaker 5 (21:26):
Myron, what's up?

Speaker 2 (21:28):
What's made you happy? What made you smile?

Speaker 5 (21:31):
Yeah? Well, let me tell you what made me happy
is moving in and finish my move into my new
apartment and getting a job offered today.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Let's go congrats, gratulations on that. Congrats on the job offer. Hey, man,
isn't it beautiful when life starts to come together like that?
You got the apartment, you got the new job. That's
a beautiful way to start the week.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
Man, It's beautiful. Let me what I wanted to say,
what I've waited on, was let me tell you. I
remember my first UK game was when I was fifteen,
watching John Wall beat UNC and all I knew was
Caliperry basketball. But let me tell you, going into this season,

(22:15):
I was really worried about Mark Pope. After the Duke game,
I thought, Okay, okay, they got some skills, they can play,
they can play some of these bigger games. But you know,
after being regaled from years of stories about UK Paul
in the past, you know, the miracle and Baton Rouge,
witnessing my generation's version of that against Gonzaga, I'm blown away.

(22:39):
I can't believe this team.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Yeah, no, I appreciate the call. I think that's you know,
that's a reasonable response after that comeback on Saturday. And again,
just imagine if you lose to Clemson, well you just
don't play great, right at the end of the day,
that just wasn't just didn't play well. And then the
over of that bleeds into Gonzaga where again some combination

(23:04):
of you lose that game, maybe a little bit down,
you don't have Lamont Butler, kirk Reis Addams gets hurt
in the game, you gotta crisscross the country. And again,
I don't know if these guys talked about this or not,
but the fact that that game started at ten o'clock
Lexington time, I just wonder what impact that would have

(23:25):
had right on that team. So, I mean, I think
that was a remarkable, remarkable comeback. And you know what, man,
this has been fun man to do this again on
a Mary Monday. And I got more things I'm going
to talk about on the other side of the break, Billy,
specifically a new way for the college football Playoff, like

(23:48):
and what I think should happen with the college football
Playoff going.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
A lot of drama with that this weekend.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
There's a lot of there's a lot of drama with it.
Damn is out. Yeah, and you know people are upset, Billy,
people are upset.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
Is this a hard out by the way, Yeah, yeah,
that's hard Outlet's hard out right here.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Okay, we're out, We're out. We're going hard out, We're out.
We'll donna sound great. But okay, Myra Metcalf here on KSR.
Black Jones feeling it for Matt Jones. Now, this is
Teddy Pendergrass. Billy. You can add this to the playlist,
but anybody who adds this to the playlist, I'm not
responsible for what happens next because this is Teddy P.

(24:30):
You know what I mean, there's Teddy Pendergrass. This is
Teddy P. All right, love TKO. I mean, this is
a whole This is a whole nother thing. This is
when you're trying to send the message. Uh, it's you,
you know what I mean, Billy, Like you know, there's nobody,
it's just you. And that's that's when you play Teddy P.
And like I said, I'm not responsible for what happens next.

(24:50):
But this is a whole different level. If you put
some Teddy P, you gotta graduate to Teddy P Billy
like you just can't jump into Teddy Pendergras, you know,
but's have enough al Green to kind of lay down
al Green's that layer of concrete. I don't know anything
about landscaping, but it's like you lay down that layer
of concrete and then now you start to build the

(25:13):
house with Teddy P. That's how I would look at it.
Put the little Teddy Pendigrads on your playlist.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
Well, then then I'll wait until we graduate from al
Green before Teddy P gets put into the rotation. I
can't just, you know, start with Teddy P.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
So you can't. You can, and I'm glad you realized
that take you got to. You gotta be in the
right place with Teddy P. So I'll go over the
list that I've talked about on the show. Harold Melvin
and the Blue Notes. That's what you play. That's for you.
When she's gone, right, she left, took her toothbrush, she's out. However,

(25:47):
there's still a little bit of a door open where
you can make you can come back together if you
act right. That's what Harold Melvin is for. That's where
you call her up and you just play Harold Melvin
over the phone. You ain't even say anything, Billy right.
That's what I would recommend Harold Melvin for. Al Green
is for you know what, you just want to add
some more love to the room. Al Green will help you.

(26:08):
That help you with that. Teddy p is you just
got to be ready for that's all. Brace yourself. Have
you gonna put some Teddy pendigrass on? I'm That's all
I'm telling you.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
Well, if you're listening to Teddy p or Al Green
or Harold Melvin, hopefully you have a good pair of
sunglasses on while you're listening to a myron like that,
because you need to stop overpaying for sunglasses. Are you
tired of buying expensive sunglasses only to lose or break them,

Speaker 2 (27:16):
Back to you, Myron, I was like pipping the door
and again. Man, that transition, Man, I love that. So
people should know there are some technical challenges, right.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
Yeah, yeah, our commercials stopped working there for a second.
I think we're getting back on track, but we're you know,
we're having to do the old reboot kind of blow
into the cartridge. Hopefully it works.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Okay here in Sainto. Hey, you know what, but be
patient everybody with trying to work through some tech issues.
So the college football playoff happened yesterday. By the way,
were you were you mad about Alabama?

Speaker 5 (27:49):
Not?

Speaker 4 (27:50):
No, I was thrilled. I'm not mad at all. I
mean they lost to Vandy and Oklahoma. Myron I think
we can go up postseason without Alabama.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Yeah, I mean, I think that's what it comes to
do to right. I mean, as much as people are like, oh,
the committee had to weigh this, and they had to
weigh that. At the end of the day, Alabama lost
that game. And I don't even think it was Vandy
as much as it was Oklahoma, where they just weren't compelling.
It's hard to make a case. And I saw Greg Burner,
athletic director, said We're not going to schedule anybody ever again.

(28:19):
And I do think that is a real threat though,
And this is why I think we're headed to sixteen teams.
I think the Big ten in the SEC, and there
were these reports before the season. I think they're gonna say,
give us automatic bids. We want four a piece, you know.
And I don't know that the College Football Apparatus can
stop them, because they do hold all the cards and

(28:41):
they do have all the power. So I think we
will go to sixteen teams. I think that will be
announced soon, and I think that sixteen team field will
include automatic bids multiple for the Big ten in the SEC.
You know, SMU, did they deserve it, did they earn it?
I don't know what that necessarily means. They played Clemson

(29:04):
down to a last second field goal. You know, they
lost to a BYU team that was top ten in
the country when they lost to them, So I get
SMU being in. What I don't agree with Billy overall
is the automatic bids and how that happens, because to me, okay,
top four seeds get the automatic berth and the buy

(29:25):
I'm fine with the automatic bid to to the five
highest ranked champions, but I don't know that everyone should
get a buye Like. To me, what would be more
fascinating is if you just seeded the bracket based on
where teams are ranked, and then you give the byes

(29:47):
to the top four teams. If you want to add
more juice to these title games, which as good as
some of them were, there weren't any stakes. You know,
A High State and Penn State we're both going to
be in the field. Everybody knew it. Right at the
end of the day, Oregon and Penn State we're both
going to be I mean it'sorry Oregon and Penn State.
We're both going to be in the field. Everyone knew that,

(30:09):
and when it came to the SEC Georgia and Texas,
no matter what happened, we're both going to be in
the field. So I think, you know, is there a
way to say, all right, the five ranked champions you
get an automatic berth, but the top four seeds will
actually get the buye because then, let's say you're Penn State.

(30:31):
Now there's a lot more on that game beyond just
trying to get a Big Ten championship. Now, if you're
Georgia in Texas, there's a lot more in that game
because there's a world where maybe you lose, and I
know that wouldn't have happen necessarily this year, but there's
a world where maybe you lose, but you still finish
top four and you secure a by What do you
think about that billity that possibility?

Speaker 4 (30:51):
I do like what you're saying. I think there does
need to be some wholesale changes to this, because Oregon
is punished more for winning the Big Ten than Penn
State losing, because they'll take on the winner of Tennessee
Ohio State, while Penn State can play SMU and Boise
State in the first two rounds. Meanwhile, a Texas team
that lost the SEC championship plays Clemson and then possibly
Arizona State. That's a pretty easy road to get to

(31:13):
that final four. So I think there. You know, this
is the first year of doing it. We've identified some
of the issues and they'll change it. Do you think
the SEC still goes to nine conference games after crying
about you know, extra losses here and there, because I
can definitely see them never scheduling a good non conference
opponent again, and that's why we may see the end
of the Louisville game. But do you still think it's

(31:34):
inevitable that we go to nine games in the SEC?

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Well, let me before that question, Like Alabama didn't lose
its non conference games, right, so like the games they
scheduled they won. You know, so like part of this
being like we're gonna change our non conference schedule, I mean,
that's your choice, but that's not why you're here. You're
here because you lost the teams in your conference at
the end of the day, Like that's what it is.
But I do think the SEC will go to nine,

(31:59):
and I do think they will schedule you know, Mercer
and teams like that in the non conference season, but
I don't think that will happen without a sixteen team playoff.
What Greg Sankie can do is walk into that room
and say give us four bids, and people can go, well, no,

(32:19):
they're not gonna get that. That's not gonna happen. Every
time the college sports hierarchy has said we're not gonna
give the SEC what they want, they've lost, right, we're
not gonna expand a playoff. Nobody want to do that.
Greg Sankee said during the pandemic, we should do it. Oh,
we're not doing that. Look at us now, we got
a twelve team playoff. Right. Oh, no, one's doing expansion.

(32:41):
Oh that's just gonna No, we're against expansion. Only the
SEC is gonna do it. Everybody expanded. So I think
at the end of the day, Greg Sankie knows he
has that power. So I think they will go to
nine conference games. You will see and this has to
be the danger for the rest of college football is
if the big ten in the SEC, okay, we're all
gonna play each other like those would be that we'll

(33:03):
schedule games against each other in the non conference season.
Then we'll schedule a couple of cupcake games, and then
we'll play a longer conference season and just ice out
the acc in the Big twelve and the Group of five.
We'll just make it so that you guys got to
play each other in order to have a chance to
get into that top twelve, which is why I think

(33:25):
we'll head to sixteen with automatic bids. People will hate it,
but there's no way around it with the power that
the SEC and the Big ten both have. Like either
listen to them, either go with what they want, or
they can say we'll do our own thing and shut
all this down. That's not gonna happen because we'll get
a sixteen team playoff. We got another caller.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Yeah, yeah, let's go back to the phone lines. I
believe po has been patiently waiting. What's up, Poe, Poe?

Speaker 2 (33:53):
How you doing on this Mary Monday here on chaos.
It's good, good good. What's something that made you happy,
something that made you smile.

Speaker 6 (34:05):
We got a veteran team. Yeah, they can play and
that's not been the case in a long time. We
got a good coach that can make any games of decisions.
That's not happened in a long time.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Either that's a big that's a big deal. That's a
big deal. What else brings you here?

Speaker 6 (34:27):
Yeah? Thank you? Guys, Billy, you's done a great job.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Yeah, Billy's been great. I appreciate that, Billy.

Speaker 6 (34:35):
I loved your interviews with with Sean Woods and and
Richie Varmer the other day too, the few days you
did and those were awesome.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
Yeah, they were great. And they were even better when
they were on at the same time, weren't they.

Speaker 6 (34:49):
Po Oh man, that was awesome.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
That was great.

Speaker 6 (34:55):
I totally agree with you, guys mine about the the uh,
the college football playoffs, the first round buys that needs
to be shaken out a little bit. But I wanted
to talk about basketball. Uh. One thing that Coach Pope

(35:17):
says at the first of the year, and I mentioned
it after the Duke game because I think we're a
second half team. One reason is because Coach Pope said,
we might not be the best team right now, but
we're going to be the best conditioned. And I'll leave
you all with that. And I appreciate you. Appreciate you.
Let me have a little time on here.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
No, I appreciate the call. I mean I think I
think that was a different type of conditioning too. Billy
and I keep saying the same thing, but maybe people
don't travel a ton I travel a ton and like
that crisscross that criss cross country travel. If I can
say the word, that's a lot, billy, that's a lot

(35:59):
on your body, fit right, And to go out there
with a late start time, you know that that can
make teams sluggish and you have to be conditioned when
you're short handed to no la moto. Kirk cries at
the end of the games and you're down and it takes.
I think sometimes people forget how much energy it takes
to come back in a game like that, Like it

(36:21):
just takes. And what you see in a lot of games,
and you should watch for this across college basketball. You'll
see a team down twelve thirteen points building and they'll
come back and maybe they close the gap, maybe they
tie the game. In most situations, those teams lose because
they've spent so much energy just closing the gap and
now you got to find another boost of energy to

(36:44):
actually finish the game. And I think that's the biggest
challenge you have. And that's why that was so impressive.

Speaker 4 (36:51):
It was it was really impressive. And before we take
a break, I just want to butcher a quote that
Mark Pope is given this year that kind of relates
to that. He said something to the effect of everybody
wants to be where you're at, but nobody wanted to
do what it took to get to you to where
you're at. And that's just it's a change in the
mindset that we've seen in this team over the years,
and I think that's part of the reason why they
were able to have success when they face so much adversity.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Like that man, right, yeah, Now he's got all the
sayings like he could do a Ted talk, you know
what I mean, Like he's one of those people like
just like philosophically, he could do one of those. So
are we taking a break now?

Speaker 6 (37:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (37:27):
Yeah, let's take a break here and then we'll come
back and wrap it up.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
All right, We'll take a break and we'll be back.

Speaker 5 (37:33):
M M.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
A little bit of Marvin Gay to close out the show.
You can never go wrong with Marvin Gay. What's going on?
What a show? Has been fine? Billy, been fun working
with you again and having a chance to fill in
here on another Mary Monday. I've enjoyed this man.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
Yeah, it's been a lot of fun. And then if
you're ESPN co host ever just decides not to show
up for a show. I'd be happy to join you sometime.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
Yeah, call me.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
No, I'm around, you know, I'm bring me up to
the big league. Who knows? But yes, yeah, before we do.

Best in Lexus catchy man like, I don't know who
came up with that, but that's that's catchy, right, best
in lex Oh.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
Yeah, they've been doing it good and doing it for
a long time, so I appreciate them.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
It's great marketing. Before I go, I don't know how
much to tip people, Billy like. So I've had a
bunch of like, uh, I got some new appliances and
some other stuff, you know, in the last month. I
don't know when I'm supposed to tip those guys, you know,
like it's you know, you go to a restaurant, you know,
kind of what the range is, right, I don't know,
like delivery dudes or delivery people like that, what do

(39:39):
you tip them? And I was really conflicted by it.
And there's not like a real manual. So like if
someone gives you a new refrigerator, right, what's the tip on?
Is there a like what do you do? Is there
a manual?

Speaker 4 (39:52):
Well, I'm going through this situation right now. I just
ordered a new washer, but I am paying them to
install it in my house. Yep, did you get that
done as well? Okay, they installed it, So is that
not the tip in itself? Or am I expected now
to give them more money for doing the job I've
already paid for, because I feel like I kind of
feel inclined to give them even more money.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
Yeah, I did, I did tip. I mean I didn't
know what the standard was though, Okay, yeah, yeah, I
think yeah. I mean because there are they are installing it,
they're bringing it off the truck, they're bringing it up
the stairs, they're bringing it into the house. But there's
no standard on like what you're supposed to give, Like
is that a.

Speaker 4 (40:32):
Well, first of all, they need to do a good job.
They can't be bumping corners, right, they can't be like
stepping on my dog. I mean, it needs to be
a good experience. And then and then really for me, Myron,
it's it's probably more of do I have any cash
in my wallet to tip these these guys with? And
if and if so, if it's anything less than one
hundred dollars bill, I'd probably give it to them. Probably
wouldn't give them a fifty either. It's probably twenty is

(40:54):
a standard, or do you think that's too high? What
did you tip?

Speaker 2 (40:57):
I tipped twenty A guy was a three man team.
I get, well, I got a I got. I got
the whole package, I got oven, range, dishwasher, fridge, I
got the whole sitch thing right, So I did twenty
A guy was that?

Speaker 4 (41:15):
I mean, I didn't And that seems like a lot.
I mean, it seems right, but you know, you can't
do the opposite. You can't give him one twenty and
say split it amongst yourself.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Boys, See, that's my Thing's not gonna cause a fight.
And then here's the other thing. I thought, there's three guys.
First off, who's the leader? Do I just give him
all the money? But if I give him a twenty?
Am I giving him the twenty? Or am I giving
it to him with the expectation he spreads the love?
I don't know. So then I just felt like, all right,
everybody gets a twenty. But then I was like, wait

(41:46):
a minute, is that the standard? I don't even know.
If we have more time, I would ask callers like
what the standard is? Because I have no idea and
there's no real there's no real manual to read or
anything that shows you the standard in that regard either,
So that's another problem.

Speaker 4 (42:04):
You know, a better question may not tip nowadays.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
That may be better, But I mean we got so
many things in this country. Can we get a standardized
manual on tipping people and what that? Because I gave
twenty a guy and I didn't know. I wasn't sure.

Speaker 4 (42:21):
It's only gotten worse. Man, over these years, it's only
gotten worse.

Speaker 2 (42:26):
But you know, and then I was like, do you
tip it all? I don't know, you know, I don't
know the thing.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
Then they'd be talking about you behind your back and
oh that got untipped.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
Yeah, but I already got the frede though. I mean,
it's not like it's not like a street where I'm
gonna see the same stat No, it's it's you know
what I mean. Yeah, it sounds sense a little bit.
Hey man, it's been fun. Uh Matt Jones and company
back after this. Thank you all for having me. As always,
I appreciate the time that you've allowed me to spend.
