Welcome everyone to Kentucky Sports Radio our Drive to Seattle.
We are live in Iowa City, Iowa, at the Pizza
Ranch on Highway One, with a wonderful set of Kentucky
fans here in the party room at the Pizza Ranch
on Highway One. Ready to start our drive to Seattle.
You can give it Shalla Clark's Puppy Shop Pham line

(00:52):
eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
Avis an Auto glass text machine is seven seven two
seven four five two five four. This distion sponsored by
the Tea J. Smith Lovas you call TJ, I'll make
them pay. Look, there are a million things going on
right now. We played basketball on Friday, we lost to
Louisville on Saturday. There are rumors, there are all kinds
of stuff going on. We're gonna go over as much

(01:13):
of it as we can, but we're also on a
road trip where we're having fun and we'll try to
balance it all as much as we can. Rick, We're
not gonna answer the phone for a little while, Okay,
it makes it easy for you. Is that all right?
Sounds good to me. Yeah, it sounds like you're already excited. Rick,
That's what I like to hear. We are here in
Iowa City, Ryan Lemon, already four people here with us
right now. You got Matt, you got Austin, you got

(01:35):
give me your name again, him Anita, and you got Devin,
all who've made the trip from the Iowa City area.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Really, there's no better place to be in Iowa City
than the party room at a Peacher n party room.
Party room is very party tastic, it is.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
There's a lot of snow on the ground, so big
shout out to the four of these people that came.
And you know, when I woke up this morning, I thought, Drew,
I think we'll have people. But it's snowing a lot,
but it's Iowa. These people are tough.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
I'm impressed with the number four here. I figured, you
know Devin over there. He usually makes our Iowa shows.
I was counting on him. But it's great to see
three others. And we'll call this a good crowd given
the circumstances outside.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Channon, you love going on these trips every year. I
see the excitement. Oh your face. Are you glad to
be in Iowa City?

Speaker 5 (02:19):
I am. I mean, of all the places in the
world I could be right now, Iowa City is the
one place I want to be here right now with
all this snow and a pizza ranch.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Well, thank you to the pizza ranch for opening up
early for us so that we could be here. That
was very nice of a Max. Your second KSR road trip.
You were part of the drive yesterday from Kentucky to
Iowa City.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
How are you enjoying it? I'm enjoying a lot. It's
never too early to party, so I'm happy you were
in the party room. You know, there's Universal, there's you know,
Disney World all that, but this is where the kids
want to come. Pizza Ranch, they got the arcade I'm
just worried about one thing. Yeah, if you look out there,
it says maximum occupancy thirty eight persons. I've counted in
here has seventy two eight. I'm not showing that math

(03:02):
works out, and I don't know if you know. I
don't want to get any trouble. But that's thirty four
over the limit.

Speaker 7 (03:07):
There's still still a social distances.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, this is this is from the distancing Well. All right,
so here's what we're gonna do. I want to talk
about what's happened, because we had a lot happened yesterday,
but we also need to talk about the news. So
from ten to ten thirty, we're gonna talk about the game,
the football situation. Then at ten thirty we're gonna switch
to a little bit of our trip. I think we're
gonna have a guest at eleven o'clock. I'll I'm trying
to get that worked out, but I'll let you know

(03:31):
and then we'll do more. Let's let's let's start with this.
I don't even want to talk about the uku L game.
Who cares we lost?

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (03:39):
You know, if you want to, if you want to
hear more of it, you can well listen to the
postgame show on podcasts. We lost to U l uh
it's stunk. Well, we'll not worry about that. I think
the story to talk about is what happened after the game,
which is Mark Stoops saying uh not just saying he
was going to return, being very definitive about it. Oh
look we have number five.

Speaker 7 (04:00):
Yeah, yeah, be closer to thirty eight.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yes, but Stoop says he's gonna stay. And then yesterday
a lot of stuff stuff starts happening. We lose two commitments.
Josh Cattis's brother d Commits goes to Clemson. Our four
star running back Marquise Davis. The commitment that was a
big commit for Kentucky. D Commits is going to Missouri.

(04:23):
Our recruiting class ranking went from twenty three to twenty eight.
Then yesterday some reports that Vince Marrow was considering going
to Louisville. If you checked your social media this morning,
I was able to confirm this morning that yes, that
was true, that Louisville pursued him. This is the second
time they've done it, and he has ended up deciding

(04:45):
to not go to Louisville. A lot to digest. Let's
start with number one Mark Stoops is returning. I'm gonna
go through all four of you thoughts. We'll start with
you Ryan. I gave my thoughts on the post game show.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
And he was very definitive, like, you know, hey, I
gonna be back at work tomorrow, be in my office tomorrow.
We're gonna work and build this up. I needed to
hear that because there's some uncertainty I think about his future.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Way he's gonna do.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
I want to hear that he wants to he's gonna
be here, he wants to be here.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
I'm pretty worried of how it's gonna look because his
comments did he say something like, I know a lot
of people want me out.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
He said there's a lot of people who uh are
rooting fish, something like sorry, it's not happening or something.

Speaker 7 (05:24):
I'm worried it's like a spiteful return, you know.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
We've talked a lot about how much he has a head,
and he got a lot harder yesterday losing two key
pieces of his freshman recruiting class. I'm just worried how
it's gonna look if if he's truly committed. I mean,
it's a huge task in front of him. I'm doubtful
can be pulled off at all. I'll root for him,
but I'm just worried he's just coming back to just

(05:47):
say you don't want me here. I'm gonna be here
just because you don't want me to. And it's kind
of like the spite thing we're getting chanton.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
I'm happy if he's coming back. Eight straight Bowl games
can't be ignored. I think that's really good for Kentucky.
I was broken though it was, but I mean, does
the guy not get one bad year? I know it
was really disappointing. He's had a lot of talent on
this team, so really underachieved considering the amount of talent.
But I mean, if there's a guy that I want
coaching the team next year, for me, it's still Mark Stoops.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
I'll still believe the three of you kind of all
over the spectrum. I mean, you're kind of happy he's
coming back. I am, yeah, Ryan's kind of like eh,
but at least he's excited. And then Drew, I don't
just I don't think it's gonna work. It's this is
a big rebuild. This is a multi year rebuild, and
he's I mean, he's already coached twelve years.

Speaker 7 (06:31):
He's not a coach here forever. So is he committed
for a two to three year rebuild.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
With the portal being what it is, though, I mean,
it's easier now to take a team from nothing to
a top twenty five teams, so it also optimistic he
can do it.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
That's I think you're right that it is easier. It's
also for easier for it to all fall apart, you
know what I mean, Like it can I think it
can go. I mean, look at yesterday, there was a
moment where we felt like the whole thing was gonna
fall apart. I mean, I think Evince had decided to
go to Louisville. Maybe it does.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Fall apart and he ends up staying here. That's a
big movement going towards next year and keeping this together.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Max.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
Yeah, I mean he was never just going to walk
away from this forty four million, so, I mean we
all thought he'd definitely come back unless they came up
with some sort of offer, our guess to try and
bridge that gap. But I'm excited for him to be back.
I'd love to be in that coaches meeting yesterday. I mean,
it's got to be a very harsh review of all positions,
including himself obviously, but all coaches, all players, all staff members.

(07:30):
And I think we'll see some change over this week.
I mean, at least in philosophy, but maybe in personnel.
I mean he already talked about we're gonna have to
have some conversation with some players and say, hey, you
got to hit the road. So I think it's going
to be interesting to see what comes out this week,
what coaches have moved on, who leaves, who stays.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
That review would have been pretty harsh. I consider this
almost like a two part show. I think, if you want,
I had a long review of the season and where
I think the program stands. I kind of did all
that on the postgame show, so I would suggest to
you listen to that. I don't want to just repeat
myself and spend this whole trip going into it. I'm
probably somewhere in between Ryan and Drew in the sense of, like, look, man,

(08:12):
I don't think he deserved Like I don't mind him
having another shot, but you gotta show me Mark you're
you're in, Like, you gotta show me not only you're in,
but like, are you gonna are you gonna bring some
discipline into the program. The program was a disaster in
the last six to eight weeks of the season. And
that's why I thought I picked Louisville for the first
time ever. I thought Louisville was gonna win. The result

(08:36):
did not surprise me at all. I thought that's I
thought that was what was gonna happen. They. I think,
in my opinion, the Vandy loss broke the team. I
think they I was saying this to somebody yesterday. I
think they got shocked by the South I think they
thought they were gonna be really good. They got shocked
by the South Carolina game, and they were like, uh oh,

(08:58):
and then everybody pressed and then you got the good
performance against Georgia and the win against Old Miss, and
then I think some arrogance creeped in. Yeah, the South
Carolina think was a fluke. It's no big deal. We
had a bye week after Old Miss, if you remember.
I think that's that those two weeks, I think things
kind of broke down. I think arrogance kind of creeped in.
I think a lot of stuff. Some stuff happened with

(09:20):
players not getting in trouble, but there were just some
bad apples that I think spoiled the it's not bad
apples spoil the broth. What is it?

Speaker 3 (09:34):
One bad apple, don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
That was Jackson five.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
One bad apple, don't spoil the bunch of.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
Girls, don't zero.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
That's not even English Jackson.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
Michael Jackson.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
He said there one bad apple, doesn't spoil.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
One bad apple, don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
That's a song. Okay, I don't all right, But my
point is there were some players, and I think the
Vandy loss in some ways not only broke the season,
but broke the morale of the program twice. I think
it hurt the fans, but I think it also hurt

(10:11):
that and then I think it just starts slipping down there.
I think everything kind of was a rolling train down.
I think at the bye week there was a lot
of suggestion around the program maybe a change needs to
be made, which then made Mark defiant. I think got
him like I'm coming back. I think he's been saying
that for two or three weeks. If you talk to
people four or five weeks ago, they would have told

(10:31):
you they thought he was gonna leave or so it
was gonna end. Then I don't know, he decided to
be defiant. I'm kind of with Drew. Defiance is really
not always the way to make things work. But he's
a dude. That whole Youngstown thing that maybe that's what
does it. I am told that the like meetings yesterday
started early in the morning and went like after I

(10:54):
went to bed, we'll just have to see. I mean,
he's coming back, so I'm with Drew. I'm gonna support him.
I don't like how this year went down, and it
culminates in that video of jeral Minci going to the
concession stand during the game. I mean, it's funny in
some ways. I laughed about it on the ESPN, But
if you want a symbol of what was wrong with
the year, we had a player in his uniform walked

(11:18):
to the concession stand during the Louisville game. Now, Granty
was wearing sweatpants, but still like that to me was
a symbol of the thing. They brought in a lot
of guys. It hurt the culture. Mark was not engaged
enough to keep it going. A couple of the coaches tried,
but they didn't have his definitive head coach power, and

(11:38):
it slipped away and then it got out of control.
They've got to turn that around. Ryan, I know you're
probably closer to the players than anyone amongst us. You
saw it coming, You've been talking about it for weeks.
Do you think it can turn around.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
I think it can turn around. Everything you said to
I agree with. It was a disappointing end to a
disappointing season. And I think Mark did lose the locker
room somewhere in the middle of the season because there
was some of the star players were not doing what
was expected of him, you know, And I think he did.
He kind of lost the locker room. And if if
Vincent decided to leave, were talked about this in the
car last night, that would have been like this, it's

(12:14):
a sinking ship.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
If Vent's left, especially for Louisville, it's over. Yeah, it's over.
I mean it's over. If you have lost a third
of the players, at least, I think the fan base
would have been done. So. I mean, and you know,
I know that there's people who like to joke around.
All the Vince Job rumors happened all the time. For me,

(12:36):
I'll speak as much as I can speak. There have
been three times that I kind of thought he really
considered it once. Was the Michigan state time. I think
that was the closest one, right when the or was
it Michigan, Michigan the first one that was the closest one.
We've talked about. That was a wild day. That's the

(12:56):
closest one. Now. I think the Michigan State when he
did seriously consider, and I don't know that I don't
know how sick, but Louisville made I think a serious
run at him here, and I don't know that it
was decided he was gonna stay until this morning. That's
huge if we'd woken up this morning and he had
taken the Louisville job. I didn't speak last night because

(13:17):
we all got to this hotel and we sit there
and looked at each other and we're like, if he leaves,
it's over.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Seeking chip.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
But I do think if Mark was gonna get this
thing back going, that's a step one. There are other
steps though, I mean, there are other steps that we
have to wait and see.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Yeah, just with the vents Louisville thing, and the wind
was blown at that direction last night, I thought if
that happened a the reaction to Vins is gonna be
more than he probably realizes. I mean, he has beloved
in Lexington. I don't think that would have been the
case moving forward if you just leave directly for arrival.
I mean I was prepared to call him little dog.
I told you all this last time I'm gonna call

(13:53):
him little I'm gonna have to start calling him little dog.

Speaker 7 (13:55):
It will hurt me more than it will hurt him.
But he will be the little dog if he.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Does that, give this same you were gonna sign.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
But uh, big dogs still here. We don't have to
get it that. It's gonna hurt me more with him.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
But I genuinely thought if he does go to Leisville,
not just the reaction to Vents, I thought it'd be
the end of Stoops because I can't see Stoops starting
this mountain. He's gotta climb without Vents beside him, because
you assume Event's left.

Speaker 7 (14:17):
You know, there's whisperers about Brad White.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
I just don't know how Stoops could walk in that
room to having to rebuild everything and not having those
guys around him.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
I think, you know, well, there's a lot more parts
of this, and I want to do one more segment
on it. Then I want to talk about yesterday just
in general because it was a wild day. And then
we hope to have a guest on to start the
second hour. We are here in Iowa City. We got
five people. What's your name? What Tim? Tim? Five folks
at Iowa City in a snowstorm at the pizza ranch.

(14:47):
That's why the man is the best. We'll take a break.
Me right back. This KSR, welcome back. It is the
Kentucky Sports Radio here on the road trip Pizza Ranch
at Iowa City. By the way, I'm a huge pizza
ranch person. Can't wait for that Buffetoh, we're on Central
Time here, so soon as this show opens at eleven,
the buffet opens and we're gonna go. Plus, we have
a member of the Iowa Basketball Managers. Yes, Iowa Basketball

(15:11):
Managers here.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
You can the party room.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yeah, that's the party room. We're not getting party right.
The Iowa Basketball Managers is here and he's gonna take
us to show this the Iowa basketball facility. When it's over,
I'm gonna be I'm gonna be shooting just like Caitlyn Clark.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
I'm gonna be Luke Garza.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
You're gonna be Luke Garza. I'm gonna be b J. Armstrong.

Speaker 7 (15:30):
I'm gonna be one of the mccaffreys.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Can't we talking about what he said to the Kaitlyn
Cardok effect, what it's done for the IOWA facilities and everything.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Like you said, the women's facility has been way upgraded,
so they deserve it. So yeah, it's it's awesome, all right.
Not surprisingly, Max Shannon Ryan got the lyrics wrong. I
wonder if, first of all, it's the Osmonds, the Jackson.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
Fopman brothers, and what did you say?

Speaker 3 (15:52):
It was one bad apple, don't spoil the whole bunch
of girls.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's what I said, not the lyrics. One bad apple,
don't spoil a whole bunch girl.

Speaker 5 (16:02):
Yeah, Comma Comma girl.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
He's talking to the girl. It's not one bad apple,
doesn't spoil the whole bunch of girls. It's one bad apple,
doesn't spoil the whole bunch Comma girl.

Speaker 5 (16:16):
Underestimate the importance of a Comma Comma house.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
And there's a completely different scenario Wax without the Comma.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
Yes, skip baglass that this year with the coma remember
his weight. But I was looking forward to the Jackson
five from Rick, and then he didn't play it. So
Rick obviously picked up his mistake early.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
And the Jackson five and the Oddsman's not alike at all.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
They were both really popular at the same time, but.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
They don't do the same kind of music, and they're like,
they're not the same.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
I think, once you hear the song, though, you'll really
enjoy it.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Rick, see if you can find it, Okay, I will.

Speaker 7 (16:49):
Our guy with the ryanism needs to add that line
that was great.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
One bad apple. Don't spoil the whole bunch of girls.
I don't know why you would have thought that that.

Speaker 5 (16:56):
Eight year old Ryan heard that as well, you heard it.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Wrong, Okay. So so back to what we were talking
about in terms of the year, Max, you were there
when the culture was the best. I know you not
there now, but talk to me about the difference of
when the culture was the best versus some of the
stuff I've talked about that.

Speaker 6 (17:15):
Happened this year to me and I bring this up
all the time, but you still can't discount the impact
of losing coach Sliman, Like, seriously that in that locker room,
in that whole facility, how good he was leading men.
Obviously Stoops is great, but that O line is the
power of that team. Like that big blue wall used
to be our identity. All those guys were NFL draft

(17:36):
picks or future NFL players, and they led the locker room.
They would tell guys when to do things, how to
do things. They just led from the front. Since then
that's fallen off. I mean, our old line is probably
the worst group we have right now. And if you
if the big blue wall is crumbling, then everyone around
it crumbles. And it's very hard for wide receivers to
lead the pack.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
And it's not just playing. The offensive line probably should
be your like best character guys, yes, And I think
you could make an argument that a couple of them
were our worst character guys this year.

Speaker 6 (18:08):
I mean, you saw Mincy at the concession If you
can't do that, I'm not trying to crush the kid,
but he's at the concessions.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
He walks up in the gate. It's not even halftime,
the game is going on. It's in the middle of
the third.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
Do they not have snacks in the locker room? He
could get and so many as well, Literally you do.
That's the bigger problem for me is the discipline. I mean,
you can. If you don't have discipline in your locker room,
you have lost the entire team, and then once you
lose the locker room, you can't get it back.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
We don't know the circumstances around it. But also Walla's
Instagram story about him, like what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (18:40):
And maybe that's a family situation. I'm not trying to
crush the kid, but he DJ Waller posts a picture
of him at a party in Florida the night before,
so he wasn't he met.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
It was during the game on Instagram. It was like,
where's the party tonight in Miami or something like that.
And those are two guys you went in the portal
and probably paid good money for Mincy, especially he was
supposed to be one of the guys come save the
line and he's in line getting hot dogs.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Mincy. You know, a lot of people focus on Barryon
and Dion Walker. I think those guys could have worked
harder Ryan, without question, But I don't think they're the
people that spoiled the locker room, do you know. I
think it was some of the other ones. But again,
I can't I'm not gonna just put on those kids.
The coaches let them do that, Ryan, like they let

(19:23):
him do that.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
I think it's something that has been building over the
last couple of years, and for whatever reason, this year
it just seemed to finally catch up to him. You know,
I think they kind of let some of their superstars
slide over the years. I mean, we've talked about Lynn Bowden,
Boden can do whatever he wanted, and they kind of
just let it go.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
I've talked about this, Max, But why was it Why
were you guys able to overlook when Lynn did that stuff?
I think you've mentioned it before.

Speaker 6 (19:44):
Maybe Cali Perry says you can have one and he
he was that one for us. Like we're fine with
you doing whatever you want to do, but if you
go out there on Saturday and don't perform, then you're
not gonna be He went out there in Brushford two
forty a game through for you know, full of touchdowns,
run for six. Like, if you want to do that,
then we're happy because you're producing on the field. But
if you know producing on the field, you can't just
do whatever you want.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
He wasn't out there getting hot dogs. That would happened, right, and.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
The majority of the team was also leading really well,
and I don't know, it's just it's obviously slips. Stoop
said it slipped, like he said, it's my fault.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
I let it slip. He did say that, do you
think they can turn that around?

Speaker 4 (20:19):
It's about saying, I thought Macklin in the interview, a
guy that came from another school has been here one year.
His post game, he even said, like someone asked, how's
this change, He's like, the leadership has to change. And
just hearing a player say that who had just gotten here.
I know he came from a mid major, but he
probably seemed like he had an eye opening experience of
just how out of control it might have been behind
the scenes.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Yeah, and then you know, I mean a lot of
the quarterback position. I think Brock seems like a good guy.
But when you're getting when you're getting beat up Shannon
by offensive line getting beat up in part because of
offensive linemen who were at the concession stand, it's hard
to feel really excited about it. I mean, I will
tell you, I don't know if this is true, Brock
will not be here next year. I won't be shocked

(20:58):
if he doesn't play football next year. And that's a
pretty sad statement for what some of the other folks
let happen. To be honest with you, Yeah, mean, i'd
be like, I'm just being real. I I kind of
feel bad for that kid, I do.

Speaker 5 (21:12):
Yeah, it didn't work out here and he's not coming
back to be second string. So if he goes somewhere else,
he's gonna have to be the starting quarterback wherever he
ends up.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
All right about that?

Speaker 4 (21:22):
He took a Tennessee they let a top fifteen draft
pick go untouched, crushed him.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Yeah, and he really wasn't the same after that. Okay,
So let's say Vincis is stay. What else has to
happen to give you confidence next year? Like? What else?
What are the other pieces that need to fall into place?

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Just for me as a fan, I would think I
want to see some staff changes. I think he's got
to at least give the impression and make the effort
to improve the staff. I think that'll go.

Speaker 5 (21:50):
A long way for me.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
You know, you're gonna lose some of your superstar players
this year. Some of them are gonna go to the
NFL Draft. But I think you need to lock up though,
some of these guys that are kind of on there
about Wilcox.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
There's old miss boards are saying they think will Cox
will go to old min.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
He's the one I was going to say, you gotta
lock him up. You got to keep him here.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Willie Rodriguez, I think you need to make sure you.

Speaker 5 (22:08):
Try to keep you He's got to be changes at
the offense.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
You got to make sure you try to keep hotly agree,
you're gonna lose to the other guys, but those of
the younger star you got to keep them here.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
I'm told Waller was not in Florida that even though
that said that. Okay, so that's why are we posting
during the game about yeah, you shouldn't be posting during
the game. Yeah, yeah, no matter what. But I mean, yes,
that's to your point, whether or not he was there
or not, he's posting during the game. You know that's
not the good. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
I mean, some of these stories and you just add
them all together just shows like, how is there zero discipline?
And then we're mentioning a lot of the people that
came in out of the portal that we thought were
good additions, and we don't have a lot of great
things to say about what they brought to the program,
and they were probably very expensive. All right, so we're
gonna talk about that.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Uh. Now, I want to talk a little bit about
this trip. We've had a lot of fun. Uh. And
I gotta tell you about the ESPN show yesterday, which
was insane. We'll take a break and be right back.
This KSR that was clearly a comma. No one, bad apple,
don't spoil the whole bunch.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Girl right into it. There was no comma. It's a
whole bunch of girls.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Did the word of it made girl plural?

Speaker 3 (23:14):
I think I think Donnie Osmond singing it that way
a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
I don't think he ever sang it. Uh, eight five,
nine twelve. We're not answering the phone right now. Okay,
So one one kind of sad note, But I do
want to note since we have a guy here who's
a manager for the University of Iowa basketball Austin. He said, Matt,
my friend Brett passed away this weekend. He had a
wife and two young kids. He said he lived in Kentucky,
but he was actually an Iowa fan. All his buddies

(23:38):
were UK fans, but he loved Iowa basketball. So I
think it's cool you guys are in Iowa City and
going to tour the Iowa facilities today. So that's kind
of that's kind of neat for So for Brett, we
will do his honor. We will, we will tour the
facilities today.

Speaker 6 (23:53):
I'm just worried when they go to practice this afternoon,
the uniforms aren't going to be washed and dried. Right,
He's saying, as he's taking the day off to come
and listen to Oh.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
That's not his job.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
It says, that's not all right.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Let's talk about what happened yesterday. We got up left
Lexington like seven fifteen in the morning, got off towards Cincinnati. Uh.
I was doing ESPN Bingals pregame at Jefferson Social. I
got to say to you Bengals fans, and I know
there's a lot of you that are also UK fans.
Y'all are the drunkest people I've ever seen it. I mean,
the Bengals play the Steelers there Jefferson Social. Well, first

(24:30):
of all, when we get there, first I asked the waitress,
I'm like, will there be a lot of people here today?
And she goes, oh, wait and see she was like,
starting about eleven thirty it's a club in here, and
I was like, oh, come on, it's eleven thirty in
the morning. Stop it. And you know, I gotta do
a radio show, and uh, you know, Shannon, a lot
of times I don't even like people.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
To talk during I've heard yeah, got another one. At
least what's remote? Hey, man can keep it down back
there there down.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
But I understood, Okay, there's gonna be a lot of
seat first. This all ton of Kentucky fans came by.
Probably had fifty people come by right of the course
of the thing. So thank you all to all that did.
It was awesome to meet people, including thank you to
the young woman who who we had a John Daily
life size stand up in our bar and it disappeared
and we didn't know where it was. She told me
that she was there partying so hard once time. She

(25:20):
woke up the next morning with the John Daly thing
in her bed next to her.

Speaker 5 (25:25):
I'm a big John Daily fan. I would have loved
to have seen it, but.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
She said, I looked up and I turned around and
there was a John Daily life size figure. That would
be scary if you didn't know that.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
You know, we're really worried about someone stealing that ended
up in a frat house.

Speaker 7 (25:37):
But I think that's the way our John Dolly status.
You need to go out. It went home with someone.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
But I want to tell you right now, if you
got some time today, go download the Sunday Mornings with
Matt Myron podcast. If you haven't subscribed and downloaded anyway,
do that for me, just as a just because it's good.
ESPN likes our numbers, but you need to listen, especially
our one's fun. But two and three, how loud was it? There?

Speaker 5 (26:01):
For a while?

Speaker 3 (26:02):
It turned into MTV spring Break at Daytona Beach. I
mean it was rocking in there.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
And I was trying to do a radio show.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
I couldn't hear.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
I was two feet away from you, and you couldn't
hear a word you ad Myron.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
I just couldn't. I could barely hear Myron. I could
not hear my producers. There's people dancing, grinding on each other.
Mario was drunk by eleven to fifty five, am. He
has a fireball, Mario, did you say he almost threw
up on someone?

Speaker 7 (26:28):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (26:28):
I can't tell on my guy, but I'm gonna tell on.
We met some friends at a big table. We were
hanging out with them KSR listeners, and they were like, hey,
before y'all go, let's do a little fireball for the road.
So we do a fireball together and Mario's almost came
back at But that it happens, it was early.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
I could tell that Mario has a look when he's drunk. Shit. Yeah,
his eyes get a little happy and he starts.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Going, well, the Fagels and the sailors.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
I'm like, it's not even noon and we're driving to
Iowa today. Mario got a quick start, He's.

Speaker 5 (26:58):
Got more fireballs. I think it back seat, we need to, like,
you know, slow the pace a little bit.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
His day started. He couldn't even walk up your driveway
at your house. He slipped and filled shot and quick
for snow. He could not walk off my driveway. He
fell down multiple times trying to get up my drive.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
And I just want to go back to how loud
it was on that bar when I walked in. I mean,
and it's like the bass is rolling. They've got the
music turned up to eleven, and I'm going, howl in
the world are they doing a radio show?

Speaker 2 (27:24):
It was very loud. It didn't really come through the mic. Now,
my producer was terrified because they were not playing the
radio mix the songs. The good thing was it didn't
really you couldn't really hear the words through the mic.
You could just hear the noise, so you couldn't really hear.
But my producer is freaking out. You can tell He's like,

(27:45):
what's going on, Myron is? I mean, we can't hear
each other. And then my producer be like, talk about
the jaguars and I'm like, hey, my like it was
it was, you need to listen to it. It was circus.

Speaker 6 (28:00):
We got out of there for a little bit because
it was too loud for us, Me and Drew, and
then we almost froze to death. But no, it was
an awesome experience.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
So then we drive. We drove last night. This is
one of the craziest things I've ever seen. We have
this thing where who picks the restaurant is gonna rotate.
Drew was up first. I won.

Speaker 7 (28:17):
I got this first.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
I thought we'd get to like Bloomington or normal Illinois.
But then I was making such good time. I made
good time, good time. We were we got through there.
Then I was like Peoria and then we got through there,
and then I said to Drew, looks like we're gonna
be around Gailsburg, which I didn't even know was a
place Gailsburg, Illinois for dinner. I said, pick us a
place in Gilsburg, Illinois. He says, nothing in Gailsburg. But

(28:42):
there's a barbecue place called Big Cats Barbecue in Knoxville, Illinois.

Speaker 7 (28:46):
Right, Yeah, I was excited about it.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
We pull in and again Ryan doesn't know his name
a lot of the time. And when we pull in,
Ryan goes, we've been here before, and you go, we have.
We've been to Big Cats Barbecue in Illinois. And then
all of a sudden, I look and I go, wait
a minute, we have been here. We have been here before.
I don't know how this happened, but many of you

(29:09):
may remember our trip to the Caucuses in Iowa. Yes,
we did a postgame show in Knoxville, Illinois, and a girl,
only one person came. We didn't know we were gonna
stop there, and we were like, hey, if you're close
by it come. A woman drove. She got there. We
couldn't get service. We had to do the show sitting

(29:31):
in our van, and she got in the van she did,
which they probably don't say you should do. Don't get
in the van with a bunch of guys, But she did,
and the four of us did the postgame show with
her sitting in the van. And that was at Big
Cat's Barbecue, Big.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Cats Parking Lot. Yep, no doubt about it. We ate
barbecue and went out in the parking lot to do
the postgame show. She said she left her husband at
home and came to sitting with her.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
World like, what are the odds that you would end
up in a tiny We had to drive five miles
off the interstate to find the restaurant, and we would
end up at the exact same restaurant Drew that we
ended up at five years ago.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
Listen, you want me to pick a restaurant, I'm gonna
pick the best one.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
For the road. It's consistent at least, you know.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
Even when I was looking at it had a picture
and I was like, that looks like that place we
were at that one time, and I thought it was
like New Mexico, because you know, we're everywhere. And then
Ryan spotted at the little nose perked up to Susie
stepped out of the ven.

Speaker 7 (30:23):
He's like, I've been here, So you.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
What did you think? You know, you're you're traveling across
the country, Max, what did you think of Illinois? It
was good. It was obviously very cold.

Speaker 6 (30:32):
We I know a lot of people commented on Twitter
that they thought it was stranger. Were all still wearing
our snowjackets in the car. Matt did keep the air
conditioning down to sixty for some reason.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
That's like, yeah, but no, it was. It was great.

Speaker 6 (30:43):
I know Drew thought there was possibly niq will and
he's been so I know.

Speaker 7 (30:46):
I do feel like I was given something I didn't need.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
And then rip to the staff member that passed away
mid setting up the Christmas decorations in there. There was
Christmas decorations, but they were half done and all the
boxes were left out.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
You really really really liked Chris miss decorations. Why is that?
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (31:02):
I just really like Christmas. I've always liked Christmas, like Christmas, lights,
Christmas people do.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
That in Australia. Did they put up lights and stuff?

Speaker 6 (31:07):
Oh yeah, Christmas exists.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
But why are you so you're enamored by it? I
don't know, I just like it. I guess whenever I
was growing up.

Speaker 5 (31:15):
I just like Americans do Christmas lights better.

Speaker 6 (31:18):
Well, you do it better because we don't get the
snow and we don't get the cold.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
We do it in the warmth.

Speaker 6 (31:23):
So like the sun never goes down, so you never
really see the lights. Like over here, it's there's snow,
there's darkness, there's lights.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
It's awesome. Yeah. So we and then we got to
Iowa City last night and here we are. Now, to
those of you listening, I need your help. The way
this works, we're kind of in between places, all right,
we're trying. There's no clear place to go. We were
gonna go to my buddy's ranch tonight, but we can't

(31:49):
because the UK game on Tuesday. The timing doesn't work.
So we think we're gonna stay tonight in Kearney, nebraskaurney Arney,
Carnal So Carney Nebraska. It looks like Kiarney. Why did
they say Carney It has an e? Did they not
know what these are? In Nebraska? They have lots of

(32:13):
weird people. Okay, So Carney, Nebraska is where we're gonna
be k e A r any. Why I'm a little
worried because it's in the middle of nowhere. And but
we need a person. I'm not worried about like I'll
find a place to stay and eat. I need something.
We need someone to continue the street. The streak's been
going on for a decade.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Can you just follow us to the next That's.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
A long way for you, though, isn't it. Yeah, Well,
you're welcome to come. But if you are in Carney, Nebraska,
I would love to have you come so we can
continue the street. I don't know where it'll be. I'll
tweet it out tonight. Probably would be in the lobby
of whatever hotel we stay at. But uh Ryan, Carney, Nebraska.
That one rural place in New Mexico is where we

(32:54):
thought the streak was gonna end. And somebody called their
dad and told him to come, and he came, and
he didn't even know who we were. I'm a little
worried about Carni, Nebraska tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
I've never heard of Carnie, Nebraska. Don't even know where
that is in Nebraska. So I gotta go do with
my own research.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
You had a Boddy to coach there.

Speaker 6 (33:09):
I was gonna say home the Lopees. Tristan Yomas, my
former long snapper, was a coach to ask so we're
Kentucky Park former Kentucky Plasts. So we do have maybe
a get out of Jeffrey Cott. He said he might
make a few calls if we if we get desperate.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
I don't want people, though, who I don't know who we.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Are to feel like I know who Tristan is in
Tristan by default knows who I am.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
So you know roundabout way? Yeah? All right, well either way,
tomorrow we will probably be uh in Carnia, Nebraska. A
F I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
We're gonna take a break and we will be right back.
We are on the road here in where are we?
This is? This is Kentucky Sports Radio walking back. It

(33:47):
is Kentucky Sports Radio. Af IM nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven. We are here in Iowa City
some Carnie, Nebraska facts. All right, let's go sand Hill
cap sand Hill Crane, Capital of America, corporate headquarters of
the Buckle.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
The Buckle.

Speaker 7 (34:06):
I forgot my belt.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
Could you remember?

Speaker 5 (34:09):
Remember the bull and there's a.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
Buckle store that's right? How about that?

Speaker 3 (34:14):
I didn't know what that was. Now when you say that,
I'd store in the mall of course.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Is that still around?

Speaker 5 (34:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (34:19):
Them all still has a bucket.

Speaker 5 (34:20):
Get some skinny.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Jeans, go, I bet they have a good buckle there.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
If that's the cap, sure, yeah, better than all those
other knockoffs.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Yeah, so we will we will be doing that now.
The snow. What do we think of the snow? We
didn't expect to encounter this snow?

Speaker 5 (34:36):
Do you mean we didn't? Who didn't going out in
the Midwest in the middle of winter? You didn't There
was no forecast for snow. Well, I mean there was
if you checked. It has brought boots. A couple of
us didn't bring. Look'st snow boots on.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
I'm not worried about it. These are Joe Fresh Goods shoes.
They're gonna be good. They're gonna be fine.

Speaker 4 (34:53):
There's a moment yesterday we were driving and you were like, Roight,
why don't you look up the weather?

Speaker 7 (34:56):
And I kind of thought, is this our first time
looking at the weather on this this trip, And.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
It looks like where we're going it's gonna be butt cold,
but no snow.

Speaker 5 (35:05):
It's but cold here. It's but many degrees right now,
it's going.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
To be very What did you think, guys, I'll start
with you, Max, of the this weekend, all the fights
over the flags on the field.

Speaker 6 (35:15):
It was it was crazy, wasn't it. I mean there
was four or five of them. It wasn't just one.
I think probably the first few teams did it and
then the other teams thought they'd get involved. If I
was to give my honest take, I don't see the
point in. You gotta be gracious when you win, right,
just leave the flags away, leave them out of the logos.
Like I know you won, but is that not good enough?

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Like I don't know.

Speaker 6 (35:35):
I just think be gracious when you win. Don't put
the flag in there, and don't stuff.

Speaker 5 (35:38):
If you beat us, you can plant your flag, but
you got to replace your divot. It's just like golf.
But yeah, I mean, if you don't like it, beat
the team is what I always say. So I mean
there was pepper spray involved in one of the fights
was at the Michigan Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
First of all, I wait, I'm shocked at that reaction
from you, Max, Like I love the flag planning. If
you don't like it, if you don't like it, beat
them frying about the people going around and pushing each other,
beat them. Beat them. They're on your home field. They
beat you. Now, it's kind of silly to plan a
flag drew into artificial turf because you can't plan it,

(36:10):
Like it doesn't really work. But like I'm kind of
with chickan God, they gotta learn how to lose.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
I'm not anti celebrating on the other team's field, but
also like the Ohio State player that lost his mind
trying to get the flag, I can see why he
would also take offense to it and lose his mind.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Also, I mean, I don't mind the fights. I'm for it.
Let him go. Now, the pepper spray, I think the
like it feels like they overreacted with the pepper spray, right, Like, don't.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
You think that's a little bunch. Now, you guys may
know the answer to this. From what I thought, the
only people that got pepper sprayed were the Michigan guys,
like the y.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Pat fordy got pepper sprayed. Columbus police, they know who
they're in.

Speaker 6 (36:50):
The policeman seemed like he just closed his eyes and
just held the bike down like it was just going everywhere.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
He was pepper spraying everybody. Like it feels like there
is I don't know. First of all, Gus Johnson way
over he way over reacted. He was like going. And
then Gus Johnson's call he lost his voice. He lost
his voice in the middle of it. That was, Yeah, Rick,
you gotta find that. It's on my Twitter account. Rick,
you think you can find that Gus Johnson calling the

(37:16):
uh the interception. I'll do my best.

Speaker 5 (37:21):
You'll find it.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
You'll find it. It was on It was on Saturday.
The Gus Johnson going. He sounded like a boy going
through puberty. When Ohio State got that interception. That was great,
Like Peter Brady when he lost his voice. How embarrassing?
Like was it for you Drew who likes to talk
so much trash to Louisville to uh W when we

(37:43):
got just destroyed.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
I wouldn't say embarrassing is the word, because I was
more just upset with Kentucky's own problems. If it had
been a one off situation, Louisville just coming here and
stolen one, I think that'd be embarrassing. But it was
we had other issues like, as we said, a player
getting a hot dog, or what's the few of Kentucky's
You know, I'm not dodging the Louisville trash talk. But
it's like I got enough problems to worry about Louisville celebrating.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
I've never been less nervous or sad about a loss
to Louisville, probably Ryan because I expected it from moment one.
I just expected it, and then for me it was
all about what are we doing for the future. I
wanted to hear what Stoop said on the post game? Baby,
what did you think about what he said? I mean
it was it was like, I know there's some people

(38:30):
with wishful thinking want me gone. Well they're gonna be disappointed.
My butts back to work. It was very he was
He took responsibility, but he was also very defiant as well.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Yeah that's what, Like I said earlier, I wanted him
to take didn't you like that? But almost like he
was like just telling everyone else he does pay attention
to the noise. He hears the noise. You can't be doing that.
You're the head football coach.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
We gotta But what about like saying, I know some
of you want me gone, so he shouldn't say, but
I ain't going anyway.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
It's kind of like Billy, like I'll take responsibility. But
I'm not saying I'm sorry. Okay, that's what happened, and
here we are.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Do you like that? Like it's weird to say with
such definitiveness. Y'all gonna be upset that want me gone?
I'm here.

Speaker 5 (39:14):
It shows a commitment to me. It's better than last
year when he was flirting with Texas A and M.
I kind of like that, yeah, because I want him back. Now.

Speaker 8 (39:20):
If you don't want him back, you don't like that answer.
But for the people he do, I know, but I can't.
I can't articulate what I'm trying to say. I mean,
here's what I would look Stoops is coming back. I
want him to do well. I will support him in
his attempts to come back. Stoops considered certainly and almost
went and maybe even tried to go, depending on who

(39:42):
you talked to to Texas A and M last year.
And he did it, And if he had decided to
do it, he wouldn't care that he made a lot
of people say, I think it is kind of wrong
to sit there and go, I.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Know a lot of y'all want me gone, but I'm
coming back. Well, a lot of us wanted you to
stay last year when you thought about leaving, right Like,
I just thought that was a little much. I think
I said to somebody I thought eighty to ninety percent
of his postgame comments were dead on and what you
need to say. But Drew, I didn't love that one
because I felt like it's just a little chesty for me. Dude,

(40:15):
you went four and eight like you went four and eight. Now,
he did say I get why you all are upset.
I appreciate that. It wasn't like cal who was always like,
why are you getting upset? But then he also what's
weird to me about Mark Stoops is he will say
one thing that's exactly right and then counter it with
the exact opposite opinion. So he'll say, I understand why

(40:36):
people are upset. I feel like I let him down.
I'm gonna fix it. But by the way, I've done
a bunch of stuff here nobody else has. Well. I
thought you said you understood why they were upset, Like
do you understand? Because if you understand, you wouldn't say
that second part. I don't. It's almost like there's like
two sides of him at war, and he ends up

(40:57):
saying both of those things.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
Yeah, that's why I brought it up right away in
our in the first hour of the conversation.

Speaker 7 (41:03):
I didn't love the just I know you want me
gone part.

Speaker 4 (41:06):
It's I mean, these people are supposed to be supporting you,
and you're kind of like, I'm coming back anyway, whatever
you think. And I just don't feel like that's a
good way if you're really trying to fix this and
rally everyone behind you. Kind Of just saying I'm doing
this regardless didn't seem like the greatest way to get
everybody behind you.

Speaker 6 (41:21):
When he said he was taking his butt back to
work the next day, I wanted a Mike Tyson style
video of him walking into work that day. I wanted
him to kind of have the butt chakes out. But uh,
I agree with you, though, Matt. It kind of sounded
like he was like almost you know, when you're fighting
with your girlfriend or something, you admit to it, but
you're almost doing a billy. You admit to it, but
you don't fully admit. You don't always and then and yeah,

(41:42):
it wasn't. So that's why I mean, he's embarrassing what
happened against Louisville, and we never want to say that again.
So there's gonna be changes, and hopefully he makes a
hush review and make some changes.

Speaker 4 (41:50):
There's just so much to do, including the offensive line.
And he's he's said with a pretty detailed plan a
week or two ago. You know, Wolford's a great recruiter.
We're gonna go out with gonna this offensive line. And
then the first piece of news is an offensive lineman leaving.
You're going the wrong way already, concession stamp.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
Yeah, all right, we will take a break, come back
our number two. This is Kentucky Sports Radio on the road.
