Speaker 2 (00:30):
Welcome everyone, It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Friday, February the fourteenth.
I am Matt Jones here in Frankfort, Kentucky at the
Kentucky State Police Training Academy, right close to off the
interstate in Frankfurt, a very impressive place that I've never
been to, and we are here all day. You give
(00:52):
Shallon Clarks Puppet Shop fault line eight five nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto glass
text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four in this dish sponsored by the TJ
Smith Loves.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
If you call TJ, He'll make them pay.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
We are here because the Kentucky State Police are encouraging you,
those of you that are listeners trying to figure out, Okay,
what am I gonna do with my life? Why don't
you consider becoming a Kentucky State Police officer? That this
is the training academy. You can learn more at join
KSP dot com. Guys, I have been around Ryan the
(01:26):
Kentucky State Police my entire lot most of my life.
You know, my mom was a prosecutor in Bell County.
She worked with the State Police forever. I see PJ.
Burnett back there, who worked with my mom for a
number of years. That was a surprise to get to
see this morning. She loved him over the years. I
won't compliment you to your face, but that's a name
(01:47):
I've heard a lot. And you know, I would see
the officers in our lives when growing up. And you know,
I never had been here, which is where they learn
all the things needed in a twenty four week program
to become an officer. And they gave us a tour earlier.
Not only is this the place where you learn and
there's all this you know, all this equipment.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
I don't know that I realized they lived here.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
We went back to where they sleep in their quarters,
and Ryan, it was it's been very cool to be
here at.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
The Police Academy.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
I I didn't even know this place existed, and then
you pull up and like, now I'm way into it.
I mean, this is really cool. They've got thirty five
cadets here right now training and yeah, we just saw
a couple of guys at their desk studying, getting ready,
and we.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Walked in and I guess part of what they do
when they teach us, when an officer or somebody that
does the training comes about, they like stand at attention
right and you know, treat them with respect. But it
shows my I guess, arrogance that I thought they were
doing that for me. I wanted to look at the
guy and go, hey, it's good. Yeah, I don't have
to worry about it. We're all good. And then I
(02:52):
was like, oh, it's for those guys. Okay, they've got
is such.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
A Matt Jones moment. They walk in and they're saluting,
They sal down to Matt.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
They really stood up like that, and I was like, man,
I got a hoodie on. You're totally good, but great
but very cool place here.
Speaker 7 (03:07):
Drew.
Speaker 8 (03:07):
Yeah, I've been very interested in all of it. We
got the tour, probably gonna stay after and see more.
And also it just you know, seeing the tributes to
fallen soldiers, the statue out front of me, Neelie, it
really gives you more of an appreciation too, not that
I don't already have it, but seeing here and what
everyone gives to serve it really makes you appreciate.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Well, let me mention this because I think it's a
very cool thing you guys do. Here. In that room
back there where the quarters are, they have the pictures
of all the Kentucky State Police officers who have fallen
in the line of duty at some point. But not
just that, they have weights literally like the kind of
weights you would lift weights to train that has the
name of all of them. And the officer that told
(03:47):
us about it said, we have these weights so that
you the trainees are literally carrying the weights of those
who've fallen before. That what a strong reminder of what
these folks do, and you know, very symbolic. But also
you know, their pictures are all up and I think
probably a lot of times when something like that happen,
that happens we talk about it in the moment.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
There's usually a great tribute, but it's easy to think
that a few weeks later we.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
All move on with our lives. It's nice to see
officers it look like going back to what the fifties,
sixties that were up there, going back a long time
with their pictures up there.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
That's one of my biggest takeaways is how they're honoring
the legacy of those other officers that have fallen and
helped blaze the path that they're on today. So, yeah,
those the wait you're talking about, they said they never
touched the ground. They will never allow them touch the
ground fully.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
So let me tell you real quick before we get
to game stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
You can apply online for Cadet Class one O six
one oh six Shannon at joinksp dot com. You have
until March fourteenth. Let me give you a little bit
about what happens. If you go to KSP. You're starting
pay sixty seven thousand dollars five hundred a year. That's
guaranteed raises.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
They don't even have to get up for the Jerry
Eve Show.
Speaker 7 (05:00):
One other job gives you a guaranteed raise.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah, the excellent benefits including a retirement program. You get
an office with the view, which is a Dodge Charger
or a Chevy Tahoe, so that I don't have an
office with a fo Now you got that car you
driving around all the time because you don't have to
pay for the gas. The law Enforce and then if
you are an officer, they have the Law Enforcement Accelerated Program,
which is a fourteen week academy. The regular academy is
(05:23):
twenty four weeks. We'll be talking more about that. But
what a cool thing. I didn't really know what we
were coming to today, and so now it's really nice.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Where the game is. The tour of the barracks. It
kind of said this used to be a prison. And
then you can kind of see the cells that are
not divided. Those are the dorms that they these guys
stay in. It's really kind of a good school set up.
Speaker 6 (05:41):
So we put Ryan through the agility test. Now on
today negative bench press.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
We're gonna be the agility test. You have a bench press,
you have to do sit ups for two minute intervals.
Riding you're out all right, blowing up all over the place.
There three hundred meters sprint. Now you surprisingly used to
be able to run. Yeah you still no, Okay, you
have to do push ups and a one point five
mile run. Yeah. I don't know how much of that
(06:07):
I would pass.
Speaker 7 (06:07):
But I could do fifty miles. I could do that.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
You can walk that far? Well, So yeah, we're here today.
Nice to see all the officers here and some folks
in the area. We are right in the midst of
basketball season and getting ready. Tomorrow night, Kentucky goes to Austin,
Texas plays their first true road game.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
At Texas in the history of the school.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
They've played them twice, but never played them on a
true road game. It's at eight o'clock on a massive
day of college basketball. We'll talk later. You know, the
number one and two teams in the country are playing
each other tomorrow, but we will be the night cap
at eight o'clock at Texas. No Jackson Robinson, no Lamont Butler,
at least Drew. That's how I interpreted Mark Pope's comments yesterday.
Speaker 8 (06:52):
You I would love to be surprised, but I'm not
turning on my TV to tomorrow night expecting them to
see them playing basketball.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
So can we win in Austin with arguably, if not
our two most important. I think they probably are our
two most important players. Can we win on the road
in that environment? Texas is struggling. They've lost I think
four straight games. They've lost it home to Arkansas, home
to Alabama. Can we continue that streak tomorrow?
Speaker 5 (07:19):
That's you said it, Tennessee. I mean Texas is going backwards.
They're not playing very well, and going into the season
I thought they were going to be a strong team
in the SEC. So even though Kentucky's going down there
kind of shorthanded, we've seen them kind of rise to
the occasion when they've had to play shorthanded.
Speaker 6 (07:33):
And you know, the last seven minutes of that Tennessee game,
you played without Jackson Robinson and without Lamari.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
So they were down free with seven minutes to go
against the best defense in the country with essentially the
lineup you're gonna have, and you're right, they have the game.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
It's gonna be tough, especially on the road in that environment.
But I think they can win tomorrow without them.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
The road is what I worry about because a version
of that lineup played at Old Miss and looked, yeah, overwhelmed.
I mean they looked overwhelmed. And when the crowd got
into it. Now, I don't know what the crowd is
going to be like down there. I mean, I think
had it been a normal if they were good, I
actually think the crowd would be wild since the first
(08:13):
time we've been there, but they are really sliding, so
I don't know what it's gonna be like. I'm not sure.
Speaker 8 (08:19):
I think Kentucky might have a good turnout. I went
down there for the football game and had an absolute blast,
and every Kentucky fan I ran into was already talking
about how they were booked for the basketball game, ready
to run it back. So I think Kentucky will have
a good crowd. And you're right about Texas. They're they're
going the wrong direction. They were supposed to be a
good team this year, and I mean what I've seen
of them. I watched the whole Arkansas game. I mean
(08:39):
they played zero defense, like didn't even pretend to play defense.
Alabama scored one hundred and eight on them their last
game at Austin. I don't know that Kentucky will score
one hundred and eight, but it's a good matchup. They
don't force many turnovers, they don't rebound. It could be
one where Kentucky can put up a lot of points
even without Robinson and Butler.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
So when Lamont Butler went out, it became clear that
the score doing was not what we thought it would be, right.
I mean, he ended up being Kobe Brea at times
directing the offense.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Obviously, uh Trton Noah.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Was in the game. They did a whole lot of
Amari Williams like and dribbling.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
And any worry, they didn't turn over.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
That's good away, I mean, but it was a hodge
podge thing. I mean, what's the number you gotta hit tomorrow,
seventy five eighty? Can you get to that number without
Lamont Butler and Jackson Robinson?
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Well, if if Brass who's the way he shot the
other night, Yes, you know he's a lot of the
scoring now is gonna fall on his shoulders.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
But is that what we are now?
Speaker 6 (09:39):
If I think it is like we cannot have a
one for eight shooting night from Brea and win the
game tomorrow, you can't, I kind of wonder.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
I do think on some level, Drew, You've brought this
up all year, but especially with Robinson and Butler out,
there's a part of me that's like, if Brady hits threes,
we can win. If he doesn't, we can't. I mean,
is that kind of what you think?
Speaker 8 (10:00):
Yeah, I feel like groundhog Day making these predictions. But yeah,
Brady's got to play well. And I think they're to
the point and this is why they beat Tennessee. The
we're really the freshman Chandler, Noah Perry. If you can
get ten to fifteen points out of that group, they
score twenty against Tennessee. But if they can score, just
to help you out a little bit, help that cushion.
With Robinson out, I think you're in a good So if.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
You're Texas, you just gard from the three point line
out and let them have anything inside. I think at
that point because if you stop down, if you shut
down Brea.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah, if you're playing defense again against USC, I mean
this would probably be true even if you had Butler
and Robinson, but I think it's certainly true with this group.
I'm saying, y'all gotta beat me at the rim like
I'm never doubling. Okay, I'm never doubling. I'm making you
not only beat me off the dribble, but I'm making
you finish. Because we actually have a lot of guys
(10:47):
that don't finish particularly well. I like O Way a lot.
Sometimes they'll dunk on your face, but he misses a
lot of layups. So I'm probably that's what I'm doing.
I'm just saying, you're not beating me from the three
point line, and so what if you can get to
the rim on me and finished, then that then the congrat.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
And I think the teams that have had success against
Kentucky have played exactly what you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Yeah, And I know it's weird to mean that Tennessee
doesn't play like that.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
I mean, because they're great, But you're right.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
I mean, you go back and think about old miss
That's what Arkansas did. Y Arkansas said, all right, we
got a lot of athletic guys. If you can score over, congratulations,
and we couldn't.
Speaker 8 (11:23):
And I think that's what Texas will do tonight, which
is a name we haven't mentioned yet. Andrew Carr will
have to play well. He will, especially so.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
He's only been playing like fourteen minutes a game. Do
you think that's just because that's all he can play?
It makes you wonder. He looks so good earlier in
the year.
Speaker 8 (11:38):
I mean, he had a great career, coming into this
with great numbers in the ACC, so you know he's
capable of it, but you just wonder how much that
back issues lingering a little bit. But since he's been back,
he still hasn't been producing the way they need him to.
So I think tomorrow night's game he could be very
helpful if he'd like to turn it on.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
So we're here at this Kentucky State Police Training academy.
You are sitting next to me, Sheen and going over
this with you. When you think about coming to be
a police officer, you think about like being an officer
on the street, responding to calls. But there are other things. Yes,
which of these do you think you could do? In
addition to being a trooper. You could be an aircraft pilot.
Speaker 7 (12:12):
Absolutely not. I would be terrifying. You know. I don't
even like riding commercial, let alone flying something.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
You don't think you'd have more confidence if you were
flying than when you go commercially. Absolutely scratch that. When
a special response team, not sure what that means, but
it sounds.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
Important, like there's a riot going on response.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
I can handle some rioters, canine handler, I'm out.
Speaker 7 (12:35):
I like dogs. I won't work well with dogs.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Cam over there.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Yeah, here's the thing. I understand that, like in police officers.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Well, I know, I'm not gonna say I understand they
treat like you all treat those canines like they're like.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
One of you, a badge.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, I mean like when they die, like they have
a funeral for I mean it's I have his trading
card over here.
Speaker 7 (12:56):
They even have what's oh it's cam cam cam. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, so I'm out on canine handler.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
You I could do that. Yeah, I love dogs.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Okay, forensic or electronic crime investigators.
Speaker 7 (13:09):
That's like some CSI type something I could do.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
All right, That sound the thing I think would be
the issues for me. I'm not really out protectingly, Joe,
do some detectivity.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
You're in the lab doing that kind of work.
Speaker 6 (13:19):
Crash reconstruction, No, I don't know how to put anything
back together.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Well, I don't think they I can crash it.
Speaker 7 (13:25):
I don't think I can reconte.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
I don't think they mean you literally put the car
back together. I think they mean like you're you're trying
to figure out what happened by reconstructing the scene. But
I don't think that you have to actually put it together.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
I still don't think it would be good at that one.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
You've been three.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Days on that ikea bed, so.
Speaker 7 (13:39):
I know you can can't put anything together.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Yeah, and then academy instructor recruiter, which is some of
the folks there.
Speaker 7 (13:45):
Okay, that would be fun. Yeah, working with the up
and comers recruiting.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
If you're an applicant, you must be twenty one years old,
but you can start the academy at the age of twenty,
so you can you applied, but then you can actually
start as long as you finished at twenty one. Networks.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
You know you heard me tell the story.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
There was a time in my life I was gonna
be a Kentucky State trooper.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
So yeah, it'd be interesting if you were an officer
because I think like you would be good at interacting
with the public. I'm not sure if you'd be good
at the rest of it. But let's start with making
the bed. They got a pretty tight operation. Yeah, okay,
So at the bed, they give you your t shirts
and you have to fold them six inches. Can't be
six and a half inches, has to be six inches
(14:28):
like the beds. That's nicer than my bed has ever.
Speaker 7 (14:31):
Oh my gosh, they would kick me out if they
saw my bed.
Speaker 8 (14:33):
The sheets pulled back six inches eighteen inches from the wall. Ryan,
you got that. That's just starting your day.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
Yeah, getting through the academy and may be the hardest part.
And then once I get through it, I want the dog.
I'm the canine guy.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
I don't think you just get to pet it and
let it bark at you like you do your dog
right right around with you. Ben, dog is in a
lot better like trained then you're yapping this dog.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
They said can sniff out cell phones?
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, what does that mean?
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Like, I guess so.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
You mean if we if we were to hide billy
cell phone in here to where he couldn't find it,
would the dog be able to find it? Oh, that's interesting,
we got it's amazing.
Speaker 7 (15:11):
Maybe we hide Billy cell We should do that.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
I actually think that.
Speaker 7 (15:14):
Can we do that?
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Is that y'all want to do that? May find we
might do that. In the second hour. I'd like to hote.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Billy cell phone and watch Cam find it.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Anywhere to show off, and if Cam doesn't find it,
Billy never gets the cell phone. Twenty eighty seven. We're
gonna take a break. We are here at the Kentucky
State Police Training Academy. This is KASR. Welcome back.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 7 (15:36):
Here.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
It's Valentine's Day. Hope you bought your significant other something
for Valentine's Day? I know, uh, you know you can
get the chocolate flowers. What else besides chocolate flowers? Do
people get a lot? I guess like jewelry. Oh that's you.
It's gotta be serious to get into the jewelry.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
Yes, uh, I just want to get flowers, like a
week ahead of time before the price is one up
to sixty dollars. Seventy dollars for a dozen roses. Makes
you look like I'm prepared thinking about you.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
I was in New York for Valentine's Day once, and
you know they have those like little bodegas and on
the day of the thing, like it's like ten dollars
for a rose or something. Wait, which of course is
what I do. So that's a problem.
Speaker 8 (16:19):
I have to do that this afternoon. Happy for listening.
I've had it for a long time.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
That's by the way, I.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Was told Brian, it's troopers, yes, not officers. I should
have known that my mom will be disappointed because she
would always make that connection.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
For me, it's it's troopers, uh not officers.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
I always like the troopers are always they get the hat,
like they're always dressed to the nines and like, you know,
it's it's it's it's a it's big time.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
Troopers are heroes, man. These guys risk their lives every
day to keep us safe. So I'm like I said,
I've always admired him, wanted to be one.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Instead of the hats, they were statue outside for the
thirty seven fallen troopers and highway patrolmen who've died in
the line of duty in Kentucky.
Speaker 8 (16:59):
Yeah, very tail statue out there for mc neely, but
with the with the hats they were showing us. The
uniform hadn't changed over the years, but the hats have
changed a little bit. And a couple of guys are
jealous that they had some cowboy hats. Back in the day,
you used to wear cowboy hats. Maybe we could bring
cowboy hats.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
For a whole You go those, you know, my first
check in Colorado, the heart of this. That would be
hard for me, but I like that.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
You go to join KSP dot com and look and
you can you can check it out. By the way,
speaking of going to internet sites, yesterday, you know, I
went to the Google trends to see you know, I
like to sometimes when we talk about a topic, go
look at Google trends and see, like did people search it?
Like Kentucky was the number one state by far for
(17:43):
search of that book the wager I talked about it.
Maybe you should start a book, Clark. I feel like
these I feel like these authors need to give us
a little something to promote their books.
Speaker 8 (17:53):
Pages last night of tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow. I tell
you it's a good recommendation.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
Yeah, I have to watch that or book read it.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (18:01):
Well, I'm a movie guy, so they got a movie
version of it. I'd rather watch it than read it.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
No, you gotta read it. It helps your brain and
uh and helps you think.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Help.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
I agree, ef. I'm nine two eight to Zho twenty
two eighty seven. Let's talk for just a second before
we get the phones about the other big game Saturday.
I don't know about you all. I'm excited about Auburn Alabama.
I mean, I think the three best teams in the
country are Auburn, Alabama and Duke. I think then there's
a group of like eight or ten teams that are
in the next tier, of which, if we're healthy, I
(18:33):
think we're in that group two. But they haven't had
the number one and two teams play each other since
two thousand and eight. If they're from and in the
same state, it's only happened like five times in history Memphis, Tennessee,
Duke Carolina a few times. Uh, and that's it. Those
are the only times the number one, the number one
and two teams from the same state have played each other.
(18:54):
You know, it's funny with Auburn being pretty bad at
football the last few years in Alabama, am I you
know Savans left the football state is a basketball state.
It's they're saying, maybe the biggest game in the history
of the state of Alabama on Saturday. Are you excited
to watch?
Speaker 5 (19:13):
I am excited to watch it. And I heard a
guy say that on The Fine Bomb Show yesterday. This
is the biggest college basketball game in the history of
the state of Alabama, number one versus Number two, completely
overshadowing the Iron Bowl. Now is this basketball match up?
Speaker 4 (19:26):
It is the Iron Bowl? Now it is the Iron Bowl. Yeah, well,
I mean you.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Also got two drue huge personalities as coaching, right. I mean,
I think Pearl and Nat Oats are kind of what
you want. If you're at a school like that, you're
trying to get people into basketball, you want huge personalities.
I don't know if they like each other or not.
I hope they don't because I feel like that would
make it better. I don't know that I've heard they don't.
But and then they both play exciting styles. I mean,
(19:49):
they're both fun to watch. The way they get up
and down the court should be great. Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
I don't watch them closely enough to know the relationship
between Pearl and Oates. I hope it's nasty though, because
they're both fiery guys and I'm excited. You know, when
Kentucky's at home and we make a whole day of it,
don't get to watch a lot of other basketball. I'm
gonna watch as much basketball as I can.
Speaker 7 (20:07):
Say.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
We're gonna be on our pregame show at the so
it'll the games from four to six, so we'll probably
be on as the game comes down there.
Speaker 6 (20:14):
I think Auburn has been like the biggest surprise in
college basketball this year. I knew they were gonna be good,
but not as good as they've been. They've just been
dominating teams.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
So who you got? The game is at Alabama, right
the games.
Speaker 7 (20:24):
Have to look I don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I think the game is in Tuscaloosa. So let's say
the game's in Tuscaloosa. Who you got win it? They
play again playing Aubard, So.
Speaker 8 (20:36):
I'm gonna go Alabama and we need them to give
Auburn or loss. With Alabama's schedule, I mean, not that
Kentucky can win the conference, but just to bring Auburn
down a little bit. I think Alabama has more losses ahead,
so I hope they'll help everyone else.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
If Abera wins this game, they're probably winning the SEC.
So I mean this is this is like their SEC
chance to win the game whole conference.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
I don't sounds crazy, but I think Alabama's the best
team in the country right now. I think they're playing
so well. I mean, they they've got it rolling the
fact that it's on their home court. I don't think
there's any way Auburn can sneak in there and win
that one.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
No, No, I think Alburt's better. But the game is
at Alabama. Yeah, I think that's gonna make a difference.
So I will take Alabama. What about you.
Speaker 6 (21:13):
Auburn's only hit one hundred points plus like two times
this year. Alabama seems to be able to hit one
hundred points with ease. So I think Alabama wins tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
So three picks for Alabama, one for Auburn. Who's up first?
Speaker 4 (21:23):
Adam Up first?
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Adam? Go ahead? Adam? Hey, guys.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
Along with the Kentucky game and Alabama Auburn, Sunday is
the fiftieth.
Speaker 9 (21:34):
Anniversary special of SML.
Speaker 10 (21:36):
Question is who's your favorite cast member?
Speaker 11 (21:38):
And what's your favorite skip?
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Oh? I love this.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
So first of all, I was this was gonna be
a topic.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Let's just hold off. I was gonna start the second out, okay,
because this is the fiftieth. I don't know if you've
seen the list of people that are gonna be there.
It's like everyone you've ever done. It's like everybody that's
ever been on SNL plus you know, like massive stars.
Basically everyone who's ever been on the show is gonna
be there. They also invited Peyton Manning. They brought their
most the people that are the host people, but like
(22:06):
the most and Peyton Manning's on Wow, and he was
great when he was on there.
Speaker 6 (22:09):
He did it like twice justin Turmberlick. I thought was
really good when he guest hosted a couple of times.
So yeah, maybe let's.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Just put a put a pin in that. Just just
one second. By the way, on the on Kentucky game
against Texas, Drew said he thinks there's gonna be a
big crowd. I saw that they're expecting twenty five to
thirty percent.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
Of the crowd to bend the Kentucky fans.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
That would be an amazing amount of people to get
into that arena.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
Yeah, I mean, Austin's a cool place to go hang out.
You know, I guess for the weekend.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
But if I remember, I went to Kentucky Texas A
and M a couple of years back, and I'd say
twenty percent of the crowd was Kentucky fans in that game.
So I mean, I could see it, could see it doing.
We're here at the Kentucky State Police Academy in Frankfurt.
We will take a break, come back, take your calls.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
We'll come back. Tucky's Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
A f I've nine two eight oh twenty two eighty
seven Here at the Kentucky State Police Training Academy in Frankfort,
you can learn how to be in class one oh
six at the KSP Academy. Learn at join KSP dot com.
You have until March fourteenth to apply, and we think
the folks out here for bringing us to make sure
(23:22):
people know that they can serve the state and get
started on a big career.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Here at join KSP dot com.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five
two five four one person rights Matt. When do you
think is the last time UK was a lower seed
in the SEC tournament? Then they will be in the
NCAA tournament. Never good question, Yeah, never, But that's gonna
happen this year. I mean we're gonna be I mean, yeah,
it's probably gonna happen because let's say we go on
(23:52):
a big run. I think the highest we could get
seated is probably third in the NCAA tournament, and I
don't think we're gonna finish in the top three of
the SEC unless Florida collapses, so and then anything from there.
I mean, we could go all the way down to
a ten in the SEC. I think we could go
the most likely range is four to ten somewhere. So
(24:15):
I would say, you know, maybe there's a world we
get a four in the SEC and a four in
the NCAA. But I think there's a really good chance, Drew,
no matter what, that we will see us have be
a lower seed in the SEC than the NCAA.
Speaker 8 (24:28):
Yeah, I think that's happening right now. They're a three
seed in the NCAA, So I mean, if they're gonna
win more SEC games to climb up the SEC seeding,
then they'd probably go up to a two or not
gonna be a one. But I don't think they'd much
farther from their ncuble A. I don't think there will
be any way we could be a higher SEC than NCAA.
That's amazing, because I am sure Ryan that that's never happened.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
I'm just thinking the years that they were a seven
or eight seed in the NCAA tournament where we a
higher SEC tournament.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, I mean yeah, because there's just never a year
where there's this in many good SEC teams. And then
we won some big none conference games against Duke and
go Zag and Louisville that helps.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Our NCAA seed. So yeah, I think this will be
the fair.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
I mean, I'm sure that's happened maybe in the ACC
in years past, but I know it's not happened though.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
Almost every game you play in the conference is a
Quad one game, and they're talking about twelve, maybe even
thirteen teams making the NCAA Tournament.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
I think there's a chance when the season's over.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
We played eighteen SEC games, and I believe I saw
sixteen of the eighteen are gonna be quad war.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
The only ones that will not be Quad one are
the LSU.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
And South Carolina home games, but otherwise they're all gonna
be CLO.
Speaker 8 (25:41):
Just to show how weird the seating is, Like, you
have the school record most in history beating top fifteen teams,
but you've also lost to Georgia, Vandy, Olemiss traditionally the
worst teams in the conference that you beat every year, but.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
They're gonna make the turnament.
Speaker 8 (25:55):
You're just looking at logos and rankings. That just doesn't
feel like the math doesn't math there. But that's how
the year is. You know, Matt, this conference is so balanced.
They're eighty two and eighty two against each other.
Speaker 7 (26:03):
Did you know that?
Speaker 2 (26:04):
I mean, now, Karl Ravigs is even getting dunked on
by Mark Pope. I mean even Mark Pope is mocking
for Karl Ravage.
Speaker 8 (26:11):
How about our boy Jacob though, with that question that
was Jacob's wanted to ask the question.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Yeah, I'm so proud you have a lot of guts
to get up there and say that one version rights Matt.
This team, because of Trent Noah, is one of my favorite,
if not the favorite teams that I have I've ever
had for Kentucky. What are each of your favorite UK teams? Okay,
so for me, I'll just give a top five. This
(26:36):
is not in a particular order, but if you're just
telling me, what are the teams that I like the most,
not the best, but I like the most. Ninety two,
the team that lost to Lagner three, the Bogans and
all those guys, and how good that team was, the
one that lost to Dwayne Wade, twenty ten, Wall Cousins,
(26:59):
Patterson probably twenty fifteen, that just because I really liked
those guys a lot. And then I'll maybe throw in
ninety eight when we won the title with Tubby. That's
those are the ones that stick out to me. It's
just my favorite teams to watch and be around. Right,
what about you?
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Ninety eight is my favorite?
Speaker 5 (27:18):
Like I said, I was deep into it then, and
that run they went on with you know, Cameron and
Jeff Shepherd, Allen A. Weard, Scott Paget, that whole group
that was that was the one I was probably the
closest to. They're my favorite, But three maybe my second favorite.
That team that's the SEC season. That team they just
smothered people and just were tougher than everybody. They were
a lot of fun to watch for me, drew.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
A lot of It's just like on a personal level
who I liked. So that's but what about you? Anybody?
What would your just be? Yeah? Mine are mostly on
personal level too.
Speaker 8 (27:45):
Ninety six probably my number one because I was that
perfect age where I mean, they're just superheroes to you,
and it was such a fun team. I went to
the summer camp before they started that year, so I
felt like I knew the guys even though I really didn't.
And then more recently Wall Cousins twenty twelve and then
twenty fifteen. You know, I was still kind of getting
(28:06):
started with KSR for a couple of those, and that's
back when we had a little more personal relationship with
the players and to helped that. They were all really
good too. So those are about four.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
I love to put them on Fox Bam Willis Hollins team. Yes,
I liked all those guys quit a bit.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
What ninety three was the first season I can remember
watching from start to finish.
Speaker 7 (28:23):
So Roderick Rhoades, that's a great team.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
Rodney Dent, Travis Ford, Yeah, yeah, yeah, the ninety six
those teams just mothered teams. I mean would beat you know,
teams about fifty or sixty on the regular twenty ten
obviously with John Wall then twenty twelve, twenty fifteen would
be my top five.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
Yeah. I liked last year's team a lot too, to
be honest. I mean, I know the ending stunk, but
during the season I really enjoyed that group.
Speaker 8 (28:49):
If they had won some games, I was prepared to
put them on my Mount Rushmore.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
I loved that group. It was just such a disappointing ending.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
I think the guys right that sent that to you, though,
this team is gonna end up being the favorite for
a lot of people, just because the way, like like
you said, the Land of Misfit Toys kind of a
ragtag bunch was thrown together, a couple of Kentucky kids
playing well. I think a lot of people think following
this team.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Who's up next? Richard is up next, Richard, Go ahead, Richard.
Speaker 12 (29:15):
The Bulls can pull it off Saturday. I know it's
gonna be tough away from home. I like, I like,
if you all know anything? Uh, injury update on all
three of the guys. When do they think that they
possibly could come back?
Speaker 2 (29:32):
At the start of the show, Richard, I love you, Richard,
but I wish you would listen to the start of
the show before you call it. I know that's that's okay.
I appreciate the call. Robinson and Butler out. I suspect
that they come back end of the year, maybe the
last couple of games of the regular season. Uh. I
(29:53):
think Butler will be back before Robinson. Just listening to Pope,
I think Robinson will be out maybe close to the
rest of regularly. And and then Kirk Crease is not coming back.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Everybody's got to stop acting like I.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Mean, I you know, if he comes back to shock,
but people still act like that's something that's gonna happen. Drew,
I don't get any sense that's.
Speaker 8 (30:10):
The case, and with his injury, I mean, if he
were able to start running tomorrow, you still got a
lot of conditioning to do, a lot of basketball you've missed.
I also don't expect Butler Robinson for a while, But
with them, I almost feel like it's keeping them on
ice and just hoping you're doing well without him. And
if it gets to a point like you got to
play through it tonight, maybe they'll try them.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
But the hope would be to win games without needing them.
If I were gonna guess this is just a gas,
but I think they will look at it, and I
think they will, in my opinion, be out Saturday. I
think they'll probably be out against Vandy on Wednesday and
probably Alabama on the road. I almost wonder if Pope's
just gonna sacrifice that road Bama game and go away.
(30:49):
I see at Oklahoma as a game I could see
him coming back because that's one I think you want
to win and you probably need him to go do.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
That's kind of that's how I look.
Speaker 6 (30:58):
So who do you think he's going to start at
point tomorrow? You know, because when Robinson was out, Butler
was in. When Butler was in, Robinson was out, so
now you don't have either one of them start Perry.
Speaker 8 (31:11):
Yeah, I mean I think you have to. Oh Way
took over for a few minutes in the last game.
That's the first time he's done it. You don't want
to take him away from his role, especially in a
game like tomorrow where I think he's going to be
maybe one of the stars.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
With the you know, I guess you'll go. I guess
Perry away Breya almanor Williams.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
And that's gonna be good for Travis. Perry's you know,
being at home.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
I can't stay.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
Alias Stats had that as the second best lineup in
the last month, Perry with the four other starters, not
Perry with no one other guys.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
But when he's in the four stars, that's gone. Well.
I don't know that Perry will play more than fifteen minutes,
but I think if you're just talking about starting the game, Ryan,
I think they might do that.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
Yeah, And I'm trying to think Texas. They've got a
guard named Tray Johnson. It's really good, and they got
they got a pope. But those guys aren't like Kai
Zigler that can just blow by Travis like he was
doing in the Tennessee games, so maybe he can handle them.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
I do three Johnson's good, but Travis Perry won't be
near him.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
No One's gonna be playing a lot.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Noah's gonna be playing a lot, you know. I think
we'll also get a sense of how healthy Car is
because if Car is healthy, he's playing twenty five or
thirty minutes. If he plays fifteen, then that just tells
me he's not healthy because they because they need him
uh to play a lot. If you want to score
big in the NBA or college basketball this season, go
(32:29):
to the Draft Kings Sports Books, official sports betting partner

Speaker 7 (33:12):
I mean that's like, could you fold that?
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Uh No, But I know how to fold the flag.
I can make the little train. Oh really, I told
you this story, haven't I?
Speaker 7 (33:25):
I don't think so.
Speaker 6 (33:26):
I I think I told you this story.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
When I was in law school.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
I represented someone that had the death penalty and when
they got executed that they were in the military. The
military wouldn't give them a military funeral. So we went
there weren't many people and me and the guy that
did the case with them. They asked us to fold
the flag and I learned on the way practicing with
a Skittles rapper.
Speaker 7 (33:53):
Good for you, man, that's really cool that you did.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
I want to talk about nervous like with everybody watching,
and to do that. I don't think we did a
perfect chart, but we did the best we could. So
we'll take a break and be right back. This is
Kentucky Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Walk ame back.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
It is Kentucky Sports Radio A five nine, two eighth,
twenty two eighty seven. Let's see, I can't find the
news you told me about. Are you making that up?
It was on the Twitter? All right, I'll see if
I can find it. My man here says that YouTube
TV and CBS have come to an agreement to where
they'll get your CBS back. But I can't find that online. No,
(34:30):
here we go. Okay, there it is. YouTube TV reaches
extension with CBS to avoid March Madness blackout. So that's good.
We'll be able to watch. Yes, Shannon, the NCAA tournament.
I shouldn't have doubted you. It was on s side
dot Com. I'm bad. I should have listened.
Speaker 6 (34:45):
Yeah, smart move on both sides there. Nobody's gonna win
in that situation if you don't have access to.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
The game, Madney Foster, nobody wins.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
We both lose.
Speaker 4 (34:55):

oh six, we got five people on the line. Eight five, nine,

Speaker 3 (35:13):
Let's go up. Who's up first?
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Justin is up next?
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Justin? Go ahead, Justin.
Speaker 11 (35:18):
Hey, man, I'm out a dustin this weekend. I'm in
a tough spot. I got free tickets by a staff member,
but I'm sitting in the parents section coach section of
the Texas area. How do I handle that? What do
I wear?
Speaker 2 (35:31):
First of all, this is I've been in this situation.
You get the tickets from Texas. You can't be obnoxious,
can't be you can't boo, you can't do that. But
the expectation you still wear a Kentucky shirt. You cheer
softly but violently, uh interest sort of like being in
a car with Ryan. When things happen, you're gonna be
(35:52):
silent and violent and you're still going to uh. But
you are gonna cheer for Kentucky. But because they gave
you the tickets, you can't be obnoxious. Do you agree
with that?
Speaker 5 (36:00):
You got to be a little bit respectful. You can
still support your team where Kentucky and cheer. Just can't
be obnoxious is the right word.
Speaker 11 (36:08):
Also, man, I know you're a big fan of Austin.
One's a good spot to eat. When I get down there.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
There's a million different things. I would say, you know,
look up. I don't. It's been a couple almost two
years since i've been there. But look up the Mexican
tex mex spots and you will, you'll, you'll, there'll be
a ton. I mean, I really like those the torches tackles.
But they got that here now, so you don't have
to eat that there. You can get something something there.
Speaker 8 (36:34):
I was in Austin for three days and I think
I forgot to eat. But I know a lot of
people that went and got barbecue. Did the two hour
wait Franklin the big one.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Don't do the two hour barbecue. Wit. It's good, but like,
it's not worth two hours waiting, and it's not that
much different than what you can get in Owen.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
Everybody thinks they have the best barbecue, right no matter
where you go Memphis.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
It's not worth two hours. I appreciate the call of
waiting in line for it.
Speaker 5 (36:58):
So you're going to Austin this weekend, I need it.
Valentine's Day weekend. You gotta stop. I haven't been in
two years.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
Kentucky is playing there you goober, who's next? Got of refirst?
Speaker 3 (37:13):
So I didn't ask you to laugh.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
I couldn't help my go ahead next, Ed, go ahead?
Speaker 12 (37:21):
Ed?
Speaker 9 (37:23):
Hey man, I was a two days ago. I was
confident of the Tennessee Sweet and now I'm about eighty
five percent for the next game.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm gonna pick us to win,
but I'm not one hundred percent confident. I mean, I
to be honest with you, I'm not gonna be a
hundredent confident for any game.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
When our two best players not on the court. You know,
I think it's I think that would be true of
any team.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
You know, take take any team in the country and
take their best score and their best leader off the court, Drew,
It's gonna be hard to win. And then you add
that you're playing on the road. I mean it's gonna
be hard. I'm I want us to win. I think
we will win, but I'm a lot more focused on
we gotta make sure we beat Shannon's team next Wednesday
night and rup this game. It's not out yet, but
(38:15):
I don't know. We appreciate the call. You think will
be an underdog, I think it'd be pretty.
Speaker 8 (38:20):
Close the Ken Palm analytics had Kentucky winning by one.
That's usually pretty close to the spread, so it'll be
it'll be a tight spread whichever direction it goes. With
the injuries, I mean throw in your backup point guards
not playing either. That's why you don't want to make
excuses for Kentucky basketball. We keep a high bar no
matter what. But to your point, any team in the
country that had the injuries Kentucky has right now would
(38:40):
be taking losses.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
They shouldn't. There's no team that you can say, who's
your floor leader and who's your.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Best score, and you lose them and they don't. It
doesn't have an impact. Yeah, that's gonna be true of
every team.
Speaker 6 (38:51):
You're down three guards and you have a big man
who is questionably healthy, so you don't even know you're.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Down your first and second string point guard and your
best score.
Speaker 6 (39:01):
Like you do that to any team, doesn't matter who
they are, They're going to struggle.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
That's gonna be very very difficult to uh to win
these games.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
You can even say your first string point guard, your
second string point guard, and your third string point guard.
In Jackson, you're down three point guards.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
You're three deep. Is gone. Yeah, who's next. Joseph is
up next, Joseph, Go ahead, Joseph.
Speaker 11 (39:21):
Hey, guys, I was seeing how you all felt fell
starting Brey at the one tomorrow because he said he's
more comfortable taking shots.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
I mean, I think they could do that for a pantine,
for plays like I mean, I appreciate the call. I
think you can put Braya Drew like you do with
the Mari where he's at the top of the key,
But as far as bringing the ball up, I'm not
sure that would be his strength.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
But yeah, they'll be plays where he plays.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Equivalent of a point guard the way that Amari Williams
does sometimes too.
Speaker 8 (39:54):
Yeah, he looked a lot better when he had the
ball in his hand. He won't be the full point guard,
but sudden the screen for Bray at the top when
he can just take a step back and pop one.
That's where he got a lot of his points. Gets Tennessee.
I think we'll see the offense doing more of that.
I think they're gonna.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
See a lot of It's hard to do it, but Garrison, Williams,
Carr pick and roll with with with Brea and let him.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Pick their poison, and especially with Carr, he can roll.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Out and shoot the three himself, and I think that's
that's a dangerous little weapon.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
I think they probably go point guard by committee.
Speaker 5 (40:26):
I think, oh Way, Breamary, Travis, Perry, They'll all probably
take their turn doing point guard.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
I will say, when Garrison dribbles, when he plays that role, yeah,
get a little nervous. I mean I get nervous when
Amari does it, but he's done it so much, you know,
I'm except But when Garrison does it, he is definitely
a dribble Like Stanley from the office, He's dribbling at
like ten feet in front of him.
Speaker 6 (40:49):
How about you know, you get maybe one dribble, no more.
We don't need two dribbles from Garrison.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
Yeah I would. I'd be fine with a Garrison one
and a half dribble.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Just no more than just no more than that.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
I'd be okay with that. Who's next?
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Knox is up next?
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Knocks, go ahead, knocks.
Speaker 11 (41:08):
Hey, Matt, I just had a question for you.
Speaker 12 (41:10):
I was wondering, what's your go to excuse for why
you're still single?
Speaker 4 (41:15):
On Valentine's Day?
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Thank you? Because I haven't found anyone that I would
want to look at every day. Next to me, Bran.
Speaker 4 (41:29):
Yeah, I sit by you every day.
Speaker 3 (41:31):

you every.
Speaker 7 (41:34):

Speaker 12 (41:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:36):

it's fourteen different directions and the various smells you emanate like.

Speaker 10 (41:45):

the weird body. It didn't have to be silent. The
question was for you. I let you answer the question. Yeah,
I said's happy.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
And one day I might be married or I might not.
Speaker 8 (42:00):
