shout out to Drew Franklin. Let's give Drew Franklin, thank you,
thank you. Drew a huge success, Drew, huge success.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
We had a blast, had a lot of fun. Missed
you guys. It was a little more work that I'm
usually cut out for, but it was a great week.
Thanks to to Billy who's walking out of the studio now.
He was a big help all week and all of
our guests.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I will say that Ryan and I listened to like
one segment while we were down there looking at the beach,
and what was it when somebody just committed I forget
who it was. One of the many commits.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
There's a lot of them.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, I know it was. It was the guy who
was the person who committed right before the show started fighting.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
All hell broke loose on that one.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Yeah, yeah, we we caught that. But dude, great job.
I mean, you killed it. You absolutely killed it. You
were so good at it. Now it's probably gonna happen
every year. We'll probably you'll leave you by yourself one week.
Why are we here, We don't need us at always.
Just turn right now and go back to Florida. Yeah,
we can hand it over it again. This week.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
It was. It was fun. There was I had a
zoom with some of my heart folks, you know, up
at the top of the all the company for other stuff.
It just happened to follow Dear and Drew Palooza. And
one of them said, who approved all these vacations? I
was like you, I don't know. I didn't approve it,
but you know, we handled it well. And if you
all want to go have your bro trip again next year,
we'll run Drew Palooza back.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I shan'ton think it needs to be an annual tradition.
Drew Palooza Wet Master's week, that's go right in his
wheel house. I mean there was something happening to Drew
every day. Every day you had like breaking news. It
seemed like the.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
News was fun and it was helpful. But I had
so much I wanted to do and we couldn't get
to it because of the news I got. You know,
you can't ignore all the commitments we got and all
the roster movements. But like on Friday at eleven, you know,
there's only an hour left and Drew Palooza and Richie
Farmer text me, when are you going to talk about
aliens and ghosts? You know, I never really got to
it because there's a lot of basketball I couldn't ignore.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Well, there's this week. It could be Drew Paluza two
point zero. This week.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
You already trying to go back on vacation. You just
got here. Yes, I must say, you're bringing a lot
of energy to the show today. That intro that was
you look like a guy that's well arrested and excited
to be back.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
You know, you go on vacation and that first day
back is usually tough. It's like you kind of dread
and going back to work, back to the old grind.
I mean I couldn't wait to get here today. I mean,
I'm serious. I was so excited to get back with
you guys. I mean Mario's here. Mario was off too.
It was a great, great vacation.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
We did have to wait to get here today because
when I got to the parking garage, you were blocking
traffic in the one lane to get down here. I
thought we were gonna be late. I didn't know what
you were doing up there, but uh, just we got
here a few minutes to go and you're just parking
holding everybody up in the parking garage downstairs.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Well, when you don't use your key card for over
a week, you kind of lose track of it, and
I couldn't find it. I knew it was in my
car somewhere, but I could not find it. I noticed
timely got in.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
We made it.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
We waited so well. Great job, jus, seriously, you did
a great job, Drew Polouza was a huge success. The
one I guess holdover though. People are dying to know
if you caught your mole in your backyard.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Uh no, actually I haven't. I've got my trap set
and even checked it this morning. Still still nothing. I
might have to try new apparatus. People have sent me
some links. I mentioned there's an old woman with a
shotgun in eastern Kentucky. I might have to call up,
but so far I did get you know, I don't
know if you heard. Everything I owned broke on the
same day. Air conditioning went out, dishwasher, broke, ice machine
(04:32):
even though I didn't need at the fireplace wasn't working,
and moles in my backyard. So I did have some
good repairman shots, Doug from Appliance Repair I think is
his name, Yea. So it was a chaotic weekend at
my house. But those moles are still running wild out there.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
What kind of trapp are you going with? Like, what's
the method you're using right now to catch those moles?
Speaker 5 (04:49):
It's just one you kind of stomp on it underground
and it's supposed to grab them. I'm gonna switch to
there's these that makes sound. A lot of people recommended those.
I was gonna get those worms, you sugges. But I
watched a YouTube video. It's a lot of like dig
it up, plant the gummy, come back, dig up the
gummy to see if it's gone. I don't I'm not
doing all that it's maybe the lady with the shotguns
(05:11):
the next step, But right now, just a few traps.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
I know, I bring over with my dogs. They tear
up your yard, but they able to get the mole
out of there. There's no doubt about it. I don't
have any moles in my backyard.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
You have the yard's already torn up.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Well, we're back at it. Like I said, it was
breaking news. It seemed like every day you were doing
the show, and it was all around the UK basketball roster.
So I mean that's still there's a lot of way
I get to today, spring football, the Masters, Shannon going having
a Shannon Night down and then Florida with me watching
the National Championship game. Well we got to start with
the basketball roster, and I guess so let's just kind
(05:44):
of go away. It's kind of been going on over
the weekend. The big news I guess was Brandon Garrison
says he's coming back.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
Yeah. Once. Once they added Quaintance, you kind of wondered
what would happen there. Even Trulie Donovan, who also had
a big week kind of hit, hinted before that he
might hit the portal. So everybody was on Garrison portal watch,
but he did the opposite and stayed home. He put
out a very cool I'm coming back video. I liked
it because the first scene in the video is him
fighting the entire Louisville bench by himself. So that's the
(06:13):
attitude they needed to bring back for next season, and
hopefully he makes the big jump. We've all seen the potential.
Now he'll have a bigger role, and you know, we
always want We wanted the last coach to retain players
and watch them make progress. Here, hopefully is what Brandon
Garrison does as he goes into his second season at Kentucky,
a third season in college.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
So I guess nobody is expecting it. But I guess
there's still no official word for Otega if he's going
to test the waters or if he's going to ender
the draft. But nobody expects him to leave, do they?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
No.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
I mean there's internet rumors that schools have called and
offered money, none of it really confirmed. It's a lot
of just fan accounts. I haven't heard of anything about
him leaven I would be very surprised, but he you know,
he would be a top one or two portal target
if he did go, so I'm sure he's getting calls,
but I think Kentucky will keep him, keep him well
(07:03):
taken care of here for him to come back, he'll
be one of the stars of all of college basketball,
not just Kentucky. So I still expect that he'll probably
test the NBA waters like we saw players do for
many years, just to go get that feedback all of that.
But I wouldn't sweat that he's not projected anywhere in
the NBA. He'll probably just go through that process for
the experience.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
And he should. Actually, I think he should go through
that process getting ready for next year's draft because he's
gonna come in and be one of the top players
in the SEC next year, I would think definitely.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
And I'm I would assume Pope and the crew are
telling him that and being like, you will be one
of the face of the faces of the entire sport
if you come back and lead Kentucky next year. And
they're counting on him.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
So Brandon Garrison will take away more than we gotta
think they're both coming back. They think O take us
coming back. Then you got the three freshmen, Colin Chandler,
Trent Noah, Travis Perry, any word at all that maybe
those guys are maybe still talking to other teams or
hearing from other teams, and maybe they might not come back.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
I don't think so. If they were gonna do that,
you'd think they would have entered earlier. You know, a
lot of spots are already taken. I'd be very priest. Uh,
they don't forget. They added uh the Big Croatian over
the weekend too. Croatian talking now, probably has the best
front court heading into the season next year. I'm gonna
try to say his name.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Okay, I heard Shannon try to say it on the
pre show.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Let's I want to hear Shannon's a tim first, because
I don't know either.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Well, we'll both try Yellovick.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
That's what I was gonna go with on Andrea yelovic Is.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
How well I think you guys just call him the
Croatian sensation. I mean, that's gonna be his nickname the
whole time he's here, right, Uh.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Yeah, second Croatian in three years with Big Z, so
you know we've tapping into that Croatian pipeline. But he
played the last year, in the last two years in
Serbia for the pink team that we played in the
Bahamas a few years I loved that team. In fact,
on KSR we dug up my old notes from the
Bahamas seven years ago where that night that that team,
(08:52):
the megab Max I think is their name. They were
out all night with us on game nights, and I
tried to buy one of the pink jerseys off their
star player and he's like, I can't. We only brought
one jersey on this trip, and I gotta wear it tomorrow.
We have KSR memories with Andrea's former Serbian team.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
So he comes in as a freshman, right, He's a
twenty one year old freshman.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
I guess how that works first time in college. So sure,
he's a freshman, twenty one year old freshman.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
So with those three guys returning the Croatian sensation, you
got Malachai and Jasper Johnson. Now they're the only incoming
freshman because of Kyd and Lewis tapped out last week
he did.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
There's reports that he'll look at Villanova with that. I
think he thought when he committed, I'm gonna be the
guy his sophomore year. Two years from now, Kentucky's gonna
go get a senior portal guard. He'll be that Lamont
Butler roll, I'll back him up, learn under Pope, and
then sophomore year, I'm the guy. But then Pope whiffed
on Dent a senior and ended up getting a junior
(09:48):
and Jaalen Lowe, and that kind of changes the whole
timeline for everything. So if I were guessing that Kayden
Lewis looked around and thought, kind of what I was
expected to do here might have changed with low coming.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
So the big let's go each position. The big guys,
Brandon Garrison, Diabate, Diamante, Diabate, Diabate, big Mo, big guy
from Atlanta, Malachimarno. I mean, you got three trees down
there for the four. You got the what's Croatian? So
is he gonna put the create Croatian Sensation's got to
play the four?
Speaker 5 (10:19):
Yeah, he and Diabate will play the four. There's debate
over who will start, and no one really knows. I
mean they just committed. But Diabat, when he left Alabama
was looking for a starting role. I would assume that's
his job right now. That's a thing. I guess that's
how he's recruited, because that's why he left Alabama. He
didn't want to come off the bench. You wanted a
bigger role, but Jelovich could push him, So who knows
(10:41):
either way. You know, Pope doesn't play the guys more
than twenty eight twenty nine minutes. You rarely see someone
playing thirty minutes. So everyone will get a lot of
playing time. There's a lot of depth, especially in the
front court.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
So but there's still a like the missing link seems
to be the shooter and the Lamar Wilkerson was here
this weekend. I saw the pictures. They were out of Kenland.
The guy from sam Houston State. You know that's a
guy that Matt said two weeks ago we should keep
an eye on. Is he the Will he be the
final missing link to maybe join the team.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
He's still gonna visit Auburn. His plan was to do
all his visits. But seeing him in the Winter Circle
yesterday and the smile on his face, I can only
imagine the attention he got walking around Keenland with thousands
of Kentucky fans everywhere he did the Jeff Rubi's probably
got the shoecake. I'd say that was a good visit.
That'd be hard to turn down. Know when Kentucky is
telling you we need a shooter, you're a shooter, You're
(11:32):
the guy, and then you have that whole Sunday after
being in Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday. Yeah, you know, nothing's
really come out of it yet. It just happened. But
I would expect he had a great time yesterday and
that should go a long way, even though he's still
going to take a visit.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
That's the thing he looks at the roster, that's the
missing They need a shoot. Kentucky needs a just a
Kobe Brea. He can be that guy. I mean that
spot is waiting there for him to take.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
And Keenland, we're so blessed to have Keenland recruiting process.
Yesterday it was a beautiful day. I didn't leave the
couch because golf was on, but seeing the photos of him,
we had a bunch on KSR again a circle. That's
that's hard to top. I don't care where you're visiting.
Going to Keenlan with blue skies and thousands of people
yelling your name and then you end up holding the
winning horse. You get a one on one photo. You
(12:13):
had Eld Magnificico or whatever his name was Auburn. Good
luck Indiana. I don't even know what you do in Bloomington,
but you gotta think Keenland was a big bump in
that recruitment.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
So if that's if that's the last spot, then we
finally will have our roster going the next year. If
that's it, are you happy with it? You know how.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Even before there was four commitments in a week, I've
kind of been not kind of I wrote and on
this radio told everybody to calm down. There was a
lot of freaking out, like the sky was falling. I
think if you had Wilkerson, you look at this roster
and say that's a contender, like you have final four expectations,
but that you miss Lewis as a backup point guard.
It kind of stunk to lose him, but as a
(12:53):
true freshman, we really don't know what kind of impact
he was gonna have it all. We won't know what
we lost probably until two years from now. So back
backup point guards a little iffy, But you got Chandler, Perry,
lots of guys that can play it. So uh yes, yeah,
at a shooter and let's go.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
So Matt Mario informed us before we started today is
the one year anniversary of the Mark Pope big announcement
at Roperena. Man, it's crazy then one year everything that
has happened. So when he took this team over one
year ago, he had nobody. I mean, Travis Perry was
there in the crowd, but he had had yet to
commit to Pope. They had nobody. Now on the second year,
(13:31):
looks like he may have a team that we all
think could maybe make a run next year.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
That's part of the reason why everybody need to stop
freaking out. At this time. Last year, we didn't have
a team none. It turned out all right. I think
we're all pretty pleased with how last year went given circumstances.
Now you've got a head start. Pope's got a year
under him. And like I said, I've been looking at
the anniversary. I was looking at all the pictures today.
Just looking back on that day is still so surreal.
I remember parking in this building. You weren't blocking traffic
(13:55):
that day like you were today. And you know, it's
about a four or five block walk to get to
Rapperina and I'm still several lights away on foot and
I can see the line down the street wrapping around referee,
and I'm thinking, what is happening over there? I expected
a decent turnout, but to walk in and Pope get
the reception he did is still really unbelievable. Not none
of us knowing what was ahead with Pope. We had
(14:17):
just talked ourselves into him forty eight hours before that,
and then that place was filled with people running in
standing room only around the rails, like as an old
school high school state championship game, where people are just
sneaking their way in a crazy day. And it's only
been a year since.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
We had a live radio show following his announcement. That's
how crazy it was that day one year ago. All right,
Well take our break. Our phone lines will be open
the Clarks Puppyshof phone number eight five nine two eight
h two two eight seven. The gang's almost all back.
Matt's the only one left. He'll be joining us one
week from today. Matt Jones returns to KSR. We'll be
right back. This is taking sports radio.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
All right.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
The boys are almost all back in town. Ryan Drew,
Shannon matt' stell in amsterd I did text Careen this morning.
I said, you know, how are things at Amsterdam? And
she said, if we want an update, this is update
we got. She goes. He said, good as far as
I know. We texted a couple of hours ago and
he said he was fine. So I'm sure they're you know,
I've been, you know, seeing his pictures. He's been posting
oft do some touristy things, kind of see the country,
(15:18):
not just locked in a bomb shelter, breaking down how
to solve life's crucial issues like they do in these
fellowship things, I believe, but they're.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
In a bomb shelter.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Maybe either in Amsterdam.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
He has been active on social media. It's not like
when he went across the pond last summer where he
just had his phone off for five weeks. He has
been pretty active online. He even sent me a TikTok
last night.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Oh he did, yeah, the TikTok that he did himself.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
No, no, just like this is a funny texto funny
He's He's been communicating throughout his time overseas.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
So Matt will be back a week from today. We
will be at ks Bar Tomorrow, Thursday and Friday in
studio today and studil Wednesday will be a case bar Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
If you want to come out there and have a
louch and hang out with us a little bit, all right?
You know Matt does this sometimes with There's like four
other big topics you guys, pick which one you want
to talk about next? The Masters, spring football, UK baseball,
(16:13):
Tennessee quarterback. Which one of those four you want to
talk about it?
Speaker 5 (16:16):
I'll let Shannon pick since he's also back and excited
to be here today.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
All right, Shan, which one of those four you want
to talk about?
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Let's talk in Tucky football. We didn't hit it a
whole lot on the pre show. We're going to save
it for later in the week, so let's talk about
it now.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Well, Drew was there. You were there for the spring
football game. Me and a dozen others were going to
say the crowd looked like it was a they were
a lout oft Keenland. Yeah, maybe a lot of Keenland.
I wish I was at Kenland on Saturday. What was
your biggest, if any takeaway did you have?
Speaker 5 (16:44):
H It was very They called it an abbreviated practice
and scrimmage. They didn't have a spring game. You know,
I've had a lot of people ask like, what were
my takeaways? And standouts as you just did. It's really
hard to tell when they're playing two hand touch. But
if there was one big takeaway, the running back Dante
Daldell from Nebraska. He broke some big runs as best
(17:06):
as you can in that thud, I guess they call it.
It would have been nice to see if they were tackling,
if he could have broken some tackles, like on his
first carry from scrimmage it was he broke one. It
was just him and the safety and you know he
got tagged and it was down, but it could have
been a sixty five yard run there. So it's really
hard to form an opinion. Like even Zach Calzada had
(17:26):
a couple of good throws, but in the way they
set it up, it just wasn't a lot to be seen,
and you know it was there's photos of the crowd
I'm not joking about dozens. Wasn't a great turnout, but
it was ten am. It was very cold, very limited
in what they did, but you got to see some
guys make plays. Quizenberry the freshman had some big catches.
(17:48):
David Washington junior, who was the receiver of freshman last year,
he had some big catches even like when you get
to the third and four string. Stone Saunders led a
game winning TV drive to end it. But I did
it do anything for my optimism or did I really
learn anything?
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Not?
Speaker 5 (18:04):
Really was good to see him the best perp. They
stayed mostly healthy through the spring. A big reason they
didn't do it Blue White Game is because last year
they couldn't. Everybody was so hurt. So they were very
cautious in keeping everybody healthy. But overall, I mean it
was a fun day. It's fun to get out there
and be at Krugerfield. I don't regret going. But as
far as learning much, it's hard to say.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Well, you said something that the guy told me. His
big takeaway was the receivers because I guess Fred Ferrier
didn't dress. He wasn't even out there, so.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Yeah, the DJ Millar didn't dress, Willie Rodriguez didn't dress.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
So but they add out allowed some other guys to
kind of step up. And he mentioned the Washington kid
that you just mentioned also he said he mean he
had a good spring game.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
Yeah, if there is a star, he's one of them. Uh.
Kendrick Law who will luck At predicted to be the
leading receiver. He had a deep catch from Cutter Bowley.
If I'm not mistaken. Uh, Cutter's first drive did not
look very good. It was pretty quick, but then h
he let him down the field on a second. Honestly,
in this one, W translates to the fall because this
person won't play. But I wasn't sure if I was
(19:01):
watching bo Allen or Josh Allen because when bo Allen
came in, and he came in early with the twos,
he rushed for like forty something yards on one drive,
drove him down to the goal line and running. So
even though we're not gonna see that in the fall,
it was kind of fun watching bo Allen show off
his wheels in year nineteen for the VET.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Well, I guess that's gonna be the big question, and
it always is when it comes to quarterbacks. Is Kalzana
the one for sure and Cutter the two for sure?
Or do you think it's still execitation.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
They did press conferences and Macklin, who we saw a
little bit of, he had a catch, but again, I
can't stress enough it's really hard to get engaged on
any of this, but he said he really liked the
way Kalazada had been throwing off spring and he's excited
about cals Odd and we got to see a little
bit of that. But you know, even on Cutter Bowley's
big throw to Kendrick Law, if they had been gone
(19:48):
full speed, he could have gotten rocked from behind. He
threw it at the split second, but the guy kind
of let up a little bit, So it's hard to
gauge what was going on. But just seeing him out
there and having the pads on, I know the fans
that were there enjoyed it, even though if it was limited.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
I thought the running back Patterson or willcost may be
running one and two. But you're telling me this dude
from Nebraska may be the best.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Yeah, I mean he's there. They really needed him for
short yardage.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
Well, like I said, he broke a couple of big
time runs and I think it could have been some
a really good highlight if you had let him kind
of run through the safety. See what he could do there.
Because he he he uh, he broke a few free
even caught a few passes. I think he'll be uh,
he'll likely be the number one, but the other guys
are gonna play. It'll be by committee. I don't know,
it'll be like I could tell you was spoiled for
many years of Benny, Chris Rodriguez and even Ray Davis.
(20:34):
I think this will be more of a group effort.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
All right. The Shannon is that, is that satisfy your
curiosity for spring football?
Speaker 5 (20:40):
Then no, I'm trying. I'm trying.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
No, But I mean, you know, he said the same
thing that everybody else who was there said. You know,
they're not going to show you a whole lot right now.
But I'm just interested in Zach Calzada. Guy who's a
seven year senior. Do we even call him a senior?
Super duper senior at this point, that's a grown twenty
four years old out there trying to lead the team.
(21:03):
I'm just I'm just really anxious and excited to see him, hopeful.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
I hope that he's the guy.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
But we'll see, We'll see what happens.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
You know, Mario's back when while I'm talking, he's adjusting
my shirt. Photos, what's wrong do I bacon neck? What's happening?
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (21:17):
Sorry, it's wrinkled. I had a week of you know,
wearing whatever I wanted. Mario wouldn't hear showing cameras out there.
These photos are good. Do you need me to turn
left or right? Okay?
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Eight five two two two eighty seven at the clarks
puppish out phone numbers. Let's get a call on this segment, Shannon,
who we got doing good? Doing good? How are you
doing good?
Speaker 4 (21:36):
I'm doing good, gentlemen. I hope you're doing well.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
We're doing good.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
I've got a great I've got a got a concern
that I want to run past the guys. There was
a very popular movie, that popular Sorry movie that popularized
the phrase you never ever leave your wing man. And
I'm sorry, but I feel like you guys just completely left.
Drew just hung out to poor Sella up there on
(22:01):
the oone while you guys were out hanging out, you know,
doing all kinds of crazy things we won't be able
to be able to hear about on the actual radio show. Drew,
I just want you to know I was actually the
conference last week. I wasn't able to call in, but
I podcast everything you did absolutely phenomenal. Man, And next time,
if you want to do it again and we get
four recruits and the news coming through the way that
(22:23):
we did, I'm all for it. You did a great
job waiting to hold down to Ford. I hope, hope,
Shannon Drew Matt, I don't know how they can pay
you back to maybe a bunch of beers or you know,
some some draft Kings tips or something like that. Maybe
some I don't know, figure a couple of meals at
ks Bar or whatever. But you did a great job.
Speaker 5 (22:45):
Good job man, Thank you very much for saying paycheck
and almost bost some beers.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
I think you'm saying you were doing good. Yeah, that's
what he said.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
Once I got the knife out of my back from
you all leaving me, I did all right.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Well, we're right back.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Forts Radio.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
We return TJ. Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Hell.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Make them pay now more Kentucky Sports Radio presented by
Stockton Mortgage.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio,
Ryan Drew and Shannon. Phone lines are open the Clark's
Pumpingshop phone line eight five nine two eight zero two
two eight seven. We had a couple of calls in
a minute. But you I have to admit something to you.
What's listen, this is just this is just our circle
of trust. The three of us here. Okay, while on vacation,
Shannon taught me how to play pickleball. Ah, that's right,
(23:29):
I have entered the pickleball world. Good.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
I'm not far behind you. I'm not only one person
on this show is anti pickleball. In fact, country Boys
opening a pickleball place. I talked about it on Friday
and near my house. I'm already getting ready. I don't
know what I need, but uh, I will be pickleballing soon.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Well, Shannon whooped me all over the court.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
You aren't bad, though, I will say for somebody's first
time playing, you're surprisingly still somewhat athletic.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Surprisingly, yeah, somewhat.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
I think you got six or seven points on me
on one game, which is but people get.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
But I like it. I mean, I is fun.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Well, we're gonna need a fourth so we can all
we canna have a ca Mario, do you want to
play or do you have to be a videographer of
our pickleball? I have three of us are interested in.
You know, Matt is a hard no Billy will play. Yeah,
so you like it. I still haven't like I haven't
jumped in yet, but my toes are on the edge.
Ready to jump in.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Well, I will say this, though, my legs were sore
for the next three days.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Oh yeah, he cried about a pull growing for the
rest of the week. How you pull it growing playing pickleball?
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Well, I didn't stretch for first first of all, and
then you ran me out over the court second of all.
And I haven't moved laterally in probably fifteen years. So
all that combined left to some really stiff and sore
legs on the trip.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Well, you weren't bad, though, So I think that now
we've brought you into this world and now we can
expect to see you on weekends out at the old
old Man pickleball court.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
The old man pickleball courts.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
Yea.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
After your live tweeting of the Final four, I wondered
if you were uh able to play a pickle ball.
I've been playing with one eye one eye open.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Let's talk about that, dude. You talk about the trust tree.
I felt like we were in our trust tree, you know,
on the.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Beach, sipping Margarita's watching the National title game. Little do
I know, Sneaky Little Ryan's over here live tweeting every
every word out of my mouth.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Dude, you were so funny though, I had to share it.
You were you were on one, you were everything. Somebody said,
hold on, you're saying Shannon was on one. Yes, but
Corey to the internet, it looks like you were on
Oh no, I was just relaying what Shannon was saying.
First of all, Shannon, we need to say, we get
to this place and it's in Florida, and Florida is
playing for the National Championship and the game wasn't even
(25:42):
on the TV. Shannon had to ask the lady this, plea,
can you put that on? The National Championship game wasn't
even on. We're in Florida, and you know how many
people were actually watching that game? The four of us
and one lady on the other side of the bar.
That was it. Nobody else could. They could not care less.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
What kind of place was the Shannon so more, I know,
not Dusty, surely no.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
This was runaway, Runaway, Runaway Island.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
But you know it's full of tourists who probably aren't Floridians,
who don't care.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
So we went to Sharky's first. Couldn't get a table
to watch the game at the bar, but not because
of the game, because it was karaoke night. That's why
Sharky's So we went. We went to uh Runaways, and
our TV was about three seconds ahead of the lady,
the one other lady who was watching the game, so
(26:30):
something would happened. We're like yeah, and she'd she finally
said something to us like, look, you guys have to
calm down. You're three seconds ahead of us over here.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
I had one other question about your adventures. You took
a picture eating a sandwich and shanting a sandwich, and
someone on Twitter noted, it looked like you took your
photo with a seashell. Was it blurry because you were blurry?
Had you just pulled your phone out of the ocean.
That was another interesting uh check in on social media
for me.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Ryan's actual like the way it looked through his eyes
is on the beach.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
I was like, Ryan Vision, see I have I have
a special beachside filter on my phone and I was
using the beach side filter. Dude, there is nothing. One
of the few one of the greatest things in life
is eating a dagwood sandwich on the beach. That is
one of my favorite things to do. And we did
it a couple times, and I'm channing shared one with
me down there on our bro Mance.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
I had to tell you, you know, you kept going out
and we were spending one hundred dollars a meal, and
I'm going well, eating a dagwood sandwich on the beach
is your favorite thing in life. Why aren't you doing
it every day? Here's what I did. Here's the dagwood,
here's the beach.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Put the two together and there you go. It's a
perfect marriage. I did it every day for lunch. I'd
have a dagwood sandwich on the beach, puts potato chips
on it. It was perfect. It was awesome.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
What was your favorite moment of the whole trip that
you can say on radio.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
Josiah grinding on a twenty seven year old, or that
was in Nashville. It was your favorite moment of the
Kentucky basketball season?
Speaker 2 (27:52):
I think I think my favorite moment was the day
that Shannon and Sarah and Jennifer and I I'll set
on the beach. We sat there for, like Jennifer I said,
there like five hours eating dag woods, eating dag woods.
It was just perfect. It was a perfect beach day.
The water was pretty, the beach was pretty. It wasn't
real crowded. You know, you just you need find it
hard to believe. You just don't get that in Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Where where I didn't see much of beach last.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Week, could go to a lake. I guess. I brought
this up on the pre show, Drew.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
It's crazy to me, like Ryan sets out there on
the beach, sits on the beach and doesn't have an umbrella,
a tent or anything and has the ability to sit
in the direct sunlight for about five to six hours
and not burn one bit. I'm out there for thirty
minutes now, I'm already burning up. I don't know, like
you must have some I don't know, like you got
just pasty white skin. I got a little color to
(28:40):
my skin. I guess that's what it is. I can't
figure it out.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
So you and Shannon and Jennifer, all three of you
were burning like crazy, and I'm like, I'm fine, let
me just bring it on.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
I'm more like Shannon. I'm wearing shorts for the first
time this year today, and I could blind people with
these legs. So I need to get on vacation soon.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Eight two two eight seven. That's our Clark' puppyshop phone numbers.
So who got a chance? Spencer? Spencer? Go ahead, Spencer, Hey.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
Guys, I just had a couple of quick things. First
of one, Man, I don't know if you guys are
like me, but every time Pope gets a commitment, I
think we're about to win the National Championship. I don't know.
The last week the front court kind of worried me,
but now I'm back on the National Championship train, just
(29:25):
pumped every time he gets one.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Well appreciate Spencer. I mean, you can't help be excited
because these guys he's bringing in, especially and if he
gets Lamar Wilkerson, and you got the best shooter in
the portal. Add that to what you've already got, solid
point guard, solid big man. So you got at the
Croustian sensation. Now at the four, I think you're pretty
much set.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
I'm not gonna say they're gonna win National Championship, but
I expect to be at Lucas Oil Stadium, the worst
place in America, next year. I think their final four
caliber and all the editions last week are great, but
I don't think people are saying enough about what second
year Mormon MoMA could do. I expect a big jump
from Colin Chandler. We're also not saying much about Cam Williams,
who was the first transportal edition. I think he's gonna
(30:04):
have a big year. So the last three or four
they added recently, they're all exciting. But there's a lot
of depth across the board, especially once they had one more.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Guard, and Diamonte caused that's problems when we played it.
I don't know, you know, I think he had a
soso season, but when he played against Kentucky he was
a handful.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
I really like that addition, it was obvious to everyone
that Pope needed some defense, some rebounding. You need to
go out and get a dog, you know. And that's
exactly what debate is. He held a way to two
points in Tuscaloosa, and not just with him, with Quaintons
and others. It's clear that Pope knew just as well
as anyone watching at home. I have to go out
and add some meanness and some guys that can defend,
(30:44):
some guys that won't just stare at a loose ball.
Because as much as I love last team, there are
a lot of moments, why aren't you grabbing that rebound.
Why can't you get a stop? He seemed to make
that a priority. They sacrificed a little bit of offense,
it looks like, but that'll be a top twenty defense
with what they have on paper right now.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
That's what's amazing about Pope. Now for a second in
a row, to watch him construct this roster. He gets
the right pieces, you know, Okay, like I need to
get a defender. Let's go out and get the best
defender we can get. I need to get a shooter.
We're gonna get the best shooter we can get. I mean,
he goes out specifically to fill the roles that will
work in his offense.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
And Quainten's when he gets healthy and he says he's
on a good timeline, that's that's gonna be some elite
shot blocking. As much as we love Mari and Garrison,
how many times last year we're like, why are their
hands at their waist and not challenging the shot? Quaintans
will come in and block a lot of shots.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
I didn't know he was that big. I'd kind of
forgotten he's he's a big man.
Speaker 5 (31:33):
Yeah, that's that's such a big get. Assuming you know
his timeline is what he says it is, and he's
able to go that's a lottery pick. And I just
it's also cool just to dude that was committed to cal. Yeah,
it shows that it's also about the program and not
the coach. He's committed to two different eras now, just
shows he really wants to be a part of Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Eight five nine, two o two two eighty seven. Who
you got next? Shannon Shane from Grayson, Oh, Shane from Grayson.
Here you on the pregame show all the time? How
are you Shane from Grayson as Gounfellers.
Speaker 7 (32:03):
Hey, I'm doing little honor Matt Jones today him being
over you across the pond there. If I'm not wrong,
At one time back in history over around Holland area
and stuff, they used to have a comicy based on
tulip bulbs that a tulet bowl was about as much
(32:26):
worth as a gold brick at one time, and their
whole economy was based on it, and of course it
filtered and fell down. So that's a little history for you.
Second thing is I was reading the Wall Street Journal
here recently and they put out a list of the
(32:47):
top valued college basketball programs in America. And where do
you think Kentucky was on the list, and who you
think there was number one?
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Entucky's got to be one or two, right, Kentucky and
Duke's go you one and two. I'd say Duke one,
Kentucky two.
Speaker 7 (33:09):
Actually the list goes North Carolina Chapel Hill one, Duke two,
Indiana three, Ohio State four, and LSU was five. Kentucky
was ranked nine.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (33:22):
Revenue was thirty three million, eight hundred thousand. The enterprise
value for Kentucky was worth two hundred and twenty three million.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (33:33):
So if y'all want to look at it and look
at that list, that's that's the list I've ever seen.
It's at the Wall Street Journal.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Though.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
Okay, all right, thank you buddy. I mean that list
is trash. I mean, how can you have it so
Indiana and LSU ahead of Kentucky basketball. As far as
income based money money coming in, the person must have
forgot to go to Nashville and see all the income
money that that brought into that town for four days
at the SEC tournament. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
I saw that list too. I was very surprised where
Kentucky was. I didn't even really read into how they
determined that. But uh my big takeaway is you say
in the Wall Street Journals trash, you don't agree with it?
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Why I don't read it?
Speaker 5 (34:11):
Louisville, Ah, heeaded trash, Louis fifth.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
Come on trash? All right, well take our break, come back,
go back to the phone lines eight five nine two
eight h two two eight seven. That's a Clark Pumpy
shop phone number. Right back. Ryan Drew and Shannon here
can take his sports radio welcome back, can take you
ports radio, Ryan Drew and Shannon who's the segment's punsed
by it? Drew Palooza boy.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
First of all, great song by Shannon Taylor here.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
Yeah, good port overrating?
Speaker 5 (34:35):
You know it's not overrated.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
What's that Court physical therapy tell me about it.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
Spring is sprung, and that means you were getting outside more,
whether that's doing yard work like trapping moles, or just
staying active by biking or running. For most, increased physical
activity when the weather gets warmer can lead to aes
pains and injury. That's where Court physical therapy can help.
At court, our therapists know what it takes to help
you heal and get back to the things you enjoy
while also helping you prevent future injuries from happening. With
over seventy locations statewide, it's easy to find a center
(35:01):
near you. Go to court dot com. That's kort dot com.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
All right. The Avision Last Tex machine is up and going.
Which is my cell phone this week while mattas still off.
This is from the Avision Last Text Machine next year.
Drew deserves tickets to the Masters on Saturday, the day
after Drew Palooza. If you know anybody that can make
that happen, I'm sure Drew would take you up on that.
Speaker 5 (35:22):
I'll happily take Masters tickets from anyone out there, I
will say, having been before, kind of like practice rounds, No,
it sounds crazy, a little more access. You can take cameras,
but you know, when the round's going, it's the weekend.
I want to be on the couch rore. I can
follow everything. Like yesterday they were showing on eighteen crowds
going crazy just because the scoreboard would change in number.
(35:43):
When you're there, you know you're kind of not able
to follow it. All that being said, I'll absolutely go
if anybody wants to take me. But it is the
best couch day of the year.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
I don't really have a making a point to watch
the Sunday of the Masters. Usually I did yesterday, so
glad I did. Man. That was this is why sports
is awesome. It was a great finish. It was exciting
that it was Rory choking then Rory hitting the great shot.
I mean, have any He had like what four bogies
(36:12):
in his final round and still won the green jacket.
Speaker 5 (36:15):
Well, everyone thought it was gonna be Bryson versus Rory,
and Rory doubles the first hole and by the second hole,
Bryson is leading after being after Rory had a five
stroke lead the day before. So then it's saying, well,
Bryson's gonna run away with this, and then he completely disappeared.
He wasn't Eve won the leader board at the turn,
and you think Rory's gonna run away with and he
threw in another double and you have Justin Rose come
(36:36):
from the back of the pack. My guy Oberg, who
had bet on I told everybody before the day started,
don't sleep on Olberg. He was in the mix. And
then it comes down to Rory. Unfortunately, he missed a
game winner like you did at the US open a
few years ago, like about a three footers all it
was too I'm not anti Rory, I was. I didn't really,
I didn't really care. I wanted Oberg to wins that
(36:57):
money on it, but I like Rory, but I just
wanted some excitement. After he missed that one putt to
go to the playoff, I felt terrible for him because
his legacy would have been one as a choke artist. Yeah,
when he's better than that. So when they did get
to the playoff, I was one hundred percent behind Rory
because he couldn't go out like that. If if Bryson
had beating him head to head, that's one thing, but
if he had gone out missing another short putt, that
(37:18):
would have been hard to watch.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
And you could see them the emotion that came out
of him when he fell to his knees on the
green and when he got his green jacket and he's
talking about his mom and dad and he breaks down crying.
I mean it was you could tell the pressure that
was on him and just that relief the hey, I
finally won the Masters. It was very evident.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
And Rose, who's probably the next they'll say he can't
win the Masters because he's led after the first round
five times, hadn't won yet. He seemed very gracious, even
though that had to have been crushing for him. Celebrating
Rory even said some nice things about him. I don't
know if many people have noticed. Someone tweeted me a video,
but as Rory's walking back off the green, going through
the crowd, there's a Kentucky fan just going double barrel
(37:55):
l's down to the camera, So I don't know who
that person is. If you're out there, think that was
a nice addition to Master Sunday, but that was one
outside of Tiger winning a few years ago. Surprisingly, in
some of the one Tiger's early ones, there's not a
better Master's Weekend than the one we just watched.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
We got to find out who that guy was. You know,
he's on the shoot as Rory comes walking up giving
the double barrel ls. Now, somebody knows who that guy is, obviously,
So if you know who he is, please let us know.
Speaker 5 (38:21):
And if I can recycle my joke from Twitter. It
was kind of sad knowing that that was the elements
to last jim Nantz performance at AUGUSTUS. Bittersweet knowing that
we'll only hear Jim Nantz for ten more years.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Shannon loves listening to Jim Nance.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
I'm just talking about when they were doing the ceremony
of putting the green jacket on him, Jim Nantz was
still talking to him as if he were calling, like,
you know, a putt on eighteen at the very.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
End of the of the match.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
He's just got that I don't know, that calmness about him.
He's always like it's like MPR radio, Jim Nance. He
talks like that all the time. I thought maybe that
was just an announcing voice. I guess he's always like that.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
He's so sappy. I mean, there was drama this year,
but he's always just so dramatic with it.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
There was one line he said there towards the end,
Rory's been eating snacks and getting hydrated on this final round.
Hopefully he'll digest another championship.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
Or he was eating a lot. It seemed like every
time he was walking in Fairway he was taking down
a granola bar or drinking whatever purple drink he had.
And that YETI looking thing.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
So how did Fleeneran posting? How did they do?
Speaker 5 (39:31):
They made the cut? You know, they were never really
in the mix. But we're proud of the guys for
making a little money down there. I don't know his
exact position, but he finished it four over. They made
the cut, made the cut, made a little money. Yeah,
nothing wrong with making the cut at the Master is
very proud of very proud of the boys.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Well there's our Master's recap. I knew you were excited
about it, Billy. I'm sure it was really excited about it.
But it is one of the few times that once
I started watching it, the excitement sucked me in. I
couldn't quit watching it. Then doing all our laundry from
the floor the trip, I just laid in there and
watched the watch the Masters.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
This Sunday such a roller coaster. It's like, well, Rory's
got this. Oh no he doesn't have it. No, now
he's got it, No he doesn't.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
He hit some that he hooked around the tree and
laying it within a few feet of the cop was amazing.
That was one of the craziest shots I've ever seen.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
And then his next hole, he put one in the
water back and forth. Maybe sure what that course can
do to you? Made me feel good to hear this.
See these guys hit on one in the water. He
once while like, hey, you know I've been there or
in the sand trap like every other hole.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
Billy and I talked about this on Friday, But are
you all aware of the story of the guy pn
in the creek?
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Yeah, yeah, creek.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
It's one of the most famous, maybe the most famous
body of water in golf. In a a amateur golfer
who was in the Masters. He was competing and playing, Uh,
looked around, had to go and he just did it
right there, right in the creek, just absolutely disrespecting August.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Did they kick him out, No, he got to finish,
but didn't escort him out of there.
Speaker 5 (40:55):
He even said in his post post match interview he'd
do it again if if that situation and popped up.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Dude, he can't be allowed back on there. That's what
I said, get him out of there. And there was
a guy that shot in ninety. He's my new favorite golfer. Okay,
shot a seventy one the next day, so quite a
turn around. I didn't pick up a new favorite golfer,
Tom Kim Is it Kim? Tom or Tom?
Speaker 5 (41:16):
That's that's Abbey's favorite golfer. If you all watch full
swing on Netflix. Really, each golfer kind of has an
episode you get to see their personality. Watch the one
on Tom Kim season two. I think, and it is
impossible not to love that guy.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Just watching him. I liked him yesterday. He looks like
he's a pudgy little twelve year old. He looks he
acts like one too.
Speaker 5 (41:34):
There's a clip at last year's Masters where he parked there,
or two years ago, he parked in Scottie Scheffler spot.
It's for the defending champion. He has no idea and
Scheffler goes up to him. He's like, Tom, you're my spot,
and he's just giggling like a little kid. He didn't
realize it. He's falling. He's fallen in the mud before
where he's just completely drenched his mud. He's just grinning
from here to ear. It's really hard not to like
Tom Kim.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
All right, Well, we'll get ready to take our break.
Our phone lines will be open next hour eight five nine,
two to two tweets that we got a lot of
things we gotta talk about yet. Tennessee quarterback situation, White Lotus.
I've been dying to talk to you about White Lotus.
Speaker 5 (42:06):
You got the hat on today.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
I wore the hat because we're talking white lotus. We
come back. You're taking a sports radio. Don't go away.
