Speaker 2 (01:00):
And I'm a horse Monday. I've been to the desert
on a horse with no name. For those of you
that expect to hear an update no earlier on the
top of the hour, our apologies to each and every
one of you. Perhaps we can correct that grave air
(01:21):
between now and the next top of the hour when
it's like Lee It'll come somewhere around three h six
pm or something.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
And Betterness aside. We are hopeful, hopeful music at noon
for a great great sports talk, Great sports Talk at noon.
Got a lot of things to discuss. We've got a
lot going on. We have a long weekend. Matt is
back from his trip to Atlanta, air bachago trip to
(01:50):
East Lancing, and everybody talks about East Lancing like it's
a dismal, terrible, empty, dead place.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
It's a lot of adjectives.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
But I think think it's because a lot of the
people I work with at Fox, and even Tim Kats,
fancy themselves as wolverines, and as.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Wolverines like Stepchild. If you're going to Michigan, go to Michigan, right,
not to Michigan, say talk.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
But they talk about East Lansing like it's Fresno. And
I even though it was snowing literally from the time
I stepped foot on the ground to when I left
the whole Detroit area whatever you'd call it, Detroit Metro
Detroit Metro area, I ended up in grand rapids when
(02:37):
I left, but it snowed the whole time. I found
it to be nice and charming. But yes, we are
back from our many trips, and we are grateful. We
are thankful that everybody got through Thanksgiving. We hope you
had a great week, and we didn't want to burden
you with this announcement last week because we're all in
(02:59):
and with plans and overwhelmed with responsibility or crippling anxiety
during the holidays weeks and the Thanksgiving holiday is a
stressful one, especially for people that travel and stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
So we didn't want to bother you about it last week.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
But Matt, this week, as you drove the other day
in a very bad traffic day through Downy and you
were so impressed at the many gigantic Palationian estates that
you saw. Some call it the Mexican Beverly Hills.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
There's acreage.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Now we put the fire in the stone, we put
the stone in the wood.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
And we put the wood in the fire for.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Firestone and stone, wood and lakewood. We put the water
in the lake and we're headed back to Downy and BJS. Now, Matt,
it's going to be Thursday night football and it's only
three days away.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Indeed, three days away, I say, and you can do
the whole Lake of Fire thing as well. At that corner.
I mean, it's the wood of the stone, the fire
of the lake, the lake of fire, a real lot.
You got a lot of combos at the corner at
the Stonewood Center. Where did bad folks go when they die?
You go to heaven? No, they go right there to
stone Wood. See you again all the fourth of July.
(04:21):
We will be at the BJ's Restaurant and brew House
in Downey. Yes you said, p don't want to lose
track of it over the Thanksgiving holiday. But this week
you can focus two to five pm, going into Thursday
at two o'clock like today, flex alike today, going into
NFL football. If you're home of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Banda music to play because of the Mexican Beverly Hills,
but also a little bit of a midget town theme
going on as well.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
We'd love to meet people from Mitchitown. Anybody, anyone.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
If you're a Downy Viking like Jeff Tedford, or if
you're a Warren Bear like Earl Warren, we want you
to come on out.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
If you're from Paramount.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
And any of the Gateway cities, Wittier, we want to
see you exactly right, ha Sanda Heights, maybe a little far,
but hey, the hell Santa Fe, Spring Lamarata, Southgate, we
want to see you yes, so'd love to see you.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
It's always a great time at the Downy DJ's. It's
a wide open bar on a raised platform, well little narrow.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Let's be fair. A couple times. The last time we
were there, it was a disaster. We forgot finally, we
forgot our own PA. Wow, we did not. It wasn't
our fault. Well, it's not our job.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
The PA was, mind you. We had people that were
busy getting stoned, a bunch of stoners in the parking.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
We had stoned out promotions guys who actually have evolved
into great promotions guys, but in that day they were
stoned out. There was still a COVID.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
That was the turning point of their career.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
There was a lackadaisical COVID vibe. They did apologize to.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Us, You burnouts can't just show up get Stone and
expect the show to run itself. Okay.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I when I got to that down Ebjays and saw
that there were at least three hundred listeners there for
our show, and I'm not exaggerating. Kate's wasn't there to
help us because he had something going on. He was
here because of something happening here. The PA didn't work,
so basically everybody that was in the building could not
(06:20):
hear the show.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I'm trying to hear sh.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
People were livid and I was matt handled it professionally.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
I was not consolable.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
I was completely inconsolable, so inconsolable that that night I
took a lizard and raised it for my own and
still have the lizard to this day.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
In adversity, a bright shining light arise, we faced terrible adversity.
We had to explain it to Jason Nagro all of
the Bosco supporters that had showed up to hear him
speak in person, and then he ends up taking my
job on the challenge.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Years later, Pico Rivera Alicia reminded us.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Well, maybe we'll see Alicia. Why doesn't she come out
and Pico Rivera aka Pico Landia and Norwy come on out.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Everybody, But that last time we were there, remember that
CA so the PA wasn't there and I wanted to
throttle somebody, but there was nobody to kill.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Wasn't it the last show before the holidays too? It
was the last show of the year, and it really
put you guys in a good mood going into the hall.
It was terrible. I mean, so it was a mess.
It was a real mess. It was unfortunately, this is
our redemption song Old Pirates. Yes they rabbi. I thought
it was Old Pirates. Yes they're rabbis.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
That is a different interpretation, Matt, you know, I mean
there's a King's James version. Few masonry types. Okay, So
we were Look, we really are excited for people to
come on out and see us. We want you to
be part of it. We got a text a little
bit earlier Matt and I from Hedge Fund, Ryan and
(08:09):
the Orange County Cabal of Petro some money listeners. They're
gonna be there and will this be our last event
before the holidays Kates.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Or no, no, it's not gone one more. Well this
is a big.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Event, still a big event, and you have no excuse
to miss it now. Is Ginoterretta just gonna pop up,
maybe with his heisman and say hi to everybody like
he did at the Downy at the Torrance BJS. Maybe
is he gonna do that in Downey?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (08:36):
I don't think it's likely, but yeah, I mean I
don't want to rule it out. Probably Joe Hortiz, the
Charger GM not gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
A little bit further away from the Bolt than the
location in Torrents. But Downey es centrally located right off
that pocket of the six oh five and the five.
A bit of a civic failure of an interchange, if
you ask those that have to contend with it. However,
how far is that from Piccolandia. Well, you're just gonna
keep going on that five north there and you'll hit
(09:05):
that there, or I should say that six o five
north and you'll hit that right Golndia, exactly right. So
we want to see them. I want to come out.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
We want to see everybody in Downey. I'm sure she
will everybody. Maybe you, maybe you, if you're listening right.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Now, maybe we can get the manager of the golfing
stuff I'm talking to you, talk a little golfing stuff
right up the street there on Firestone from the Stonewood
Center that we go to.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
BJ's probably going to be like, hey, those are customers
that we want here at BJ's. We don't want to
promote the golfing stuff down the street.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Fair, but how about having a nice pizza, a nice
brew house special and then heading on over for a
go kart Rider three. Can't we all win?
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I just don't think Miss January is going to be
down with that, Matt. You know what, guys, we'd rather
they have another beat. She's put the I mean you know,
I mean, don't make it more complicated. You know, she's
already put the pressure on us, Matt about fair. She
hasn't opened up Happy hour an hour early for us
and how us money?
Speaker 2 (10:01):
He did once and we pressured her into that, and
I think it might have bit her a little. Got
her in deep ding.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
You change a happier time, you think you're Jesus, you
think you're God, you think you're Superman, that you can
fire around the world and turn back time.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
You think you could change a happy hour time.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
They were like, look at all these people, and everybody
had their eyeballs on me, and I was like, all right,
just do it.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
He don't, mister BJ.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
So there We're sorry. Uh, We're gonna be there at
two o'clock. So that's a flex alert. Like today, tonight's
Monday night football, that's Thursday night football. So we expect
you to be there. Now, what's going on the show?
What Piccolandia? We expect the Chargers player that had the
(10:54):
two interceptions, the Maryland guy tar Heeb. Still we expect
him to join the show in the very next segment.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
That is the expectation.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
And then we have how is your weekend? And that
won't be the only Charging that we have.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
We have David Vassa gonna talk a lot of Chargers football.
He loves the loves the Chargers, big fan. We will
have a top story of the day now. Now for me,
I got a couple texts I try. I've been watching the.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Chargers because we're the home of the Chargers, Voice of
the Chargers, the voice of the Bolts, Matt Maddy Smith
here and of course Daniel Jeremiah, our dear friend, and
our dear friend Shannon Farren, where we're very much in
tune with the Chargers broadcast. And Matt comes and tells
us it's a Kurt Clayshaw. Actually, Matt comes and tells
(11:40):
us about the Chargers usually, you know, especially when they win.
We have a big, deep conversation about the Chargers on
Monday or the day after the game. And I got
a few texts yesterday like, oh my god, they're throwing
the guy interception interception and all I could think of
was two things. Number One, I am I'm a young
man who was underprivileged in a way when it came
(12:04):
to video games. Uh, when the Nintendo Entertainment System came out,
the one with Super Mario Brothers, the one that gave
everybody entertainment, the one that gave everybody the Eiffel Tower
sized boner. Yeah, the og I mean Atari, yes, the
the yes bon and those were all great. But I
(12:25):
didn't have that any s I had because my mother
wanted to save thirty bucks. The Sega Master System, now, oh, well,
you'd think I feel like I feel like, you know,
a kid who grew up, you know, in a diamond
mine or something like that, hard scrabble Sega Master System
(12:47):
life shape me. And then when Shanoby and stuff like
that came out, I was like, oh, oh, who's on
top now, right, and just go after Burner? Hey, Hey,
what's up? You got something to say?
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Now you know there was a little bit of that, sure,
but you're right. I mean, ultimately you won the marathon.
The Sega Genesis is the is the war right when
that came out, And.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Remember you were saying all that about Sega, what you
want to do Nintendo sixty four.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
My aff Shnobi is old news to me. Yeah exactly.
I played it on the Master System.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
So that I had the Sega master System, and it
shaped me in many ways.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
You know what everybody was.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Talking about contra or or you know, and I had
I didn't have that.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
You know, when everybody was playing Tech Mobil, you were
playing tick Mobile, Well, I was.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Playing Uh just the game I had was so generically
made by the Japanese at the Sega people. It was
such a generic Japanese game. The football game was called.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Football exclamation point, no football, it was just called football.
And uh that's the game. That's the game I played.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Now. What I do remember, very very distinctly was when
somebody threw an interception, it sounded a lot like Matt
Smith dead?
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Was that me? Or was that the Sega Master System?
Try it again? Then are sop dead? I think that
might be a bit, That's all. That might be eight ball.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
All I could think about was how many are sup dead.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Kirk Cousins? Through four interceptions? Four of those?
Speaker 1 (14:22):
And every time it came up on the thing the
highlights the challenge on mute, which I try to avoid.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Dead Sunday Night Football halftime Derwin James Oh, Durwin does
it again? That are sop dead.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
There were four interceptions, and two of them came from
the young man who played his college football in the DMV.
It was a very volatile week in the world of
college football.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
I like the understatements, a lot of flag planting and
putso wagon. You know, we'll put up with a lot
of crap. But if you want to desecrate our field, by.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Now, Matt, you've known me and you understand my football perspective.
You've known me for a long time about and you've
known me as a guy who's talked about football.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
That's how we met. You would never allow a field
to be desecratic.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
I don't. For me.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
I am not you know, I am not some big
Michigan Ohio State guy.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
I don't have the game. I don't.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
I respect Katz and Moyer, I respect Archie Griffith, I
respect Maurice Clarett, I respect Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, Tom Brady,
Elvis Gerbach.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
I understand the rivalry. I'm a West Coast football guy,
but I get it. But I don't really root for
one of the other I don't. I liked it when
Harbaugh ran him over a couple of years ago in
the snow and Deerdorf was crying on the last broadcast.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
I liked that. It was great. You know, it was
a beautiful moment.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
But I'm not like, but to so bush League, Ohio
State supposed to win by eighty.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Touchdowns, the largest spread in twenty years.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
And now they're standing out there before the game and
Michigan runs out, and they positioned themselves so they talk
ass to the whole Michigan team as they're running out.
They proceed to go out there and get beaten by
a very mediocre Michigan team without their two best players.
And then the game's over and now we want to fight,
(16:27):
But yeah, it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
That is the most bush league thing. Fight them in
the game. Now.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
One of the worst losses I've ever this is just
my own personal experience. One of the worst losses I've
ever experienced as a college football player. Was also in
probably my best game. I had two long touchdown runs.
I had another one that should have counted, but they
call said I was down that the PAC twelve. Whether
it have replay back?
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Then? You know the PAC twelve apologies. I apologize there, yeah,
the old apologies. Thanks man, it makes you feel better.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Apologize. It was my old team that I had transferred from.
It was cal We played cal You apologize to him,
not no, no, and we lost, I believe in overtime
to cal Or. We lost right at the end. It
was terrible and it was a terrible loss, and we
had a big lead and we blew it. And I
(17:19):
and one of my least favorite people, somebody who I
knew very well and went to high school with, John Wellborn,
somebody that you know went on to play in the NFL.
Somebody had been in a fist fight with when I
was a kid. I was walking up the tunnel John Welborne,
who was a big draft pick, and all that was
waving the cow flag all around. The band was there
and his puzza was out and he was celebrating, and
(17:42):
what do you do. There used to be a great
city level high school basketball coach who went into the
women's game named Greg Herrick, and his son ended up
being a pretty big star quarterback at Valencia High, signed
with Old Miss and ended up at NAU But anyway,
Greg Herrick, who Jim Herrick, used to call the impostor.
(18:03):
There he is the impostor. Greg Herrick said it best.
He said, if you lose, let's get the hell out
of here before anybody recognizes us. Let's get out of
here before anybody recognizes us. Michigan and say what you will.
Michigan's different from Ohio State. They're angrier. Michigan's a little
(18:23):
bit more of a bougie school. But Michigan lost to
Texas this year after they were undefeated with Harbaugh and
won the title. We'll talk about the Harbaugh effect as
the show goes on. Michigan lost to Texas. What did
Texas do while Michigan went up the tunnel. They planted
their flag.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
On the MD they did.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
And you know what the Oregon Ducks did, those hippies
from Eugene with the fancy shoes.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
And they ate patay right there on the M and
they planted the stupid duck flag. And I'm not saying
Baker Mayfield's fault with his stupid Okay.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Nobody did an Nobody did anything at Ohio State. Then
look and now Nebraska wants to go out and pray
on the fifty and USC got all mad about that.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Guys. Look, I do too.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
I can't take it like you guys are playing football
between the whistles. In the sport of football, you can
really f somebody up. I mean, you can really take
out some aggression. In fact, most of us, that's why
we're out there because we're good at responding with violence.
Most of the guys in the box, that's who we are, angry,
(19:32):
violent people, and that's what we're good at, and that's
why we're playing football. There's plenty of opportunities to kick
ass during the game. You lose the game and they
want to do something on your fifty, get your ass
up the tunnel before anybody recognizes you. Get to Tijuana,
do something with yourself. The season's over.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Any of them.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I just it's it's funny to watch everybody booth themselves
around because they're all in football uniforms. Obviously over zealous
ops at Ohio State pepper spraying people, everybody running out
with their stigmata, Fred Rogan bleeding eyes. I mean, and
it's a fun spectacle to see, is it not? Sportsmen
(20:13):
like to plant the flag. I guess I don't care.
But if you lose the football game, I don't care.
Whose field it is, Get off the field. You lost
the game. And I'm no a huge Sarkisian fan because
I think what he did to Norm Chow as far
as betraying him, is unforgivable in any coaching lifetime. I
(20:35):
find what he did to Norm Chow to be so
unsavory that it bothers me. But you can't argue with
the success that Steve has had after he's gotten his
life together. And when Steve Sarkisian saw this Texas guys
collecting at the Big A and M to plant their
longhorn flag and tell all the A and M people,
this is what you get for your weird homo erotic cheering.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
What did he do?
Speaker 1 (20:59):
He said? Dead up tunnel. He went and told his
team go up the tunnel, go up to the tunnel,
and if you get Mike Norval, the Florida State guy, Yeah,
President's coming home in a box.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Frankly, that's not gonna happen. I'm on to you. And
Ryan Day saying that weird looking his weird beard and
his weird hair and his weird eyeliner and his red face. Yeah,
I mean he's twice twenty point favorite. He's five time
as the leader Lincoln Riley is, and he's a terrible leader.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
Yeah, Kate's what about the Arizona guys showing more fight
with the trident in the middle of the field after
the game from Arizona State than they actually have for
four quarters.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
I'm just glad Chuck Cecil didn't kill that guy. If
Chuck Cecil was if Chus Cecil saw that, Chuck Cecil
might have killed that he might have broken that a
sixty year old, seventy year old Cecil full.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Sprint double foot center of the back.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
I heard a sound like a green limb breaking in half,
and Chuck Cecil broke that young man's young back and
spine right there on the.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Fiftiesky was thrown on that mascot on the sideline before
they scored. That was great, we all, I've called plenty
of the duels in the Desert. Yeah, the duel in
the Desert or the Territorial Cup as that it is
also called. Uh, but I don't.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
I don't get it, Like if you guys are going
to fight over a flag like a bunch of sorority
girls fighting over a quilt at the end of a
football game. I mean, what you're doing in the football
game is badass enough, even though they change the rules
and most guys that played when I probably think that
you guys are weenies. You don't need to fight over
a flag like it's mine. After they really like it's
(22:35):
it looks it's so bad.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
About Jason Levont, the former Michigan player sideline reporter with
his backpack on it. He took a forearm from some dude.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
He saved the Michigan flag. The Ohio State players were
taken and trying to rip it. After the whole skirmish,
the sideline reporter and former NFL player, former Michigan standout
Jason Levant came over and grabbed the Michigan flag.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
He was getting pushing it. I already had Rick Monday
on his show. It bonded saving over there saving the flag.
He's the Rick Monday of ann Arbor. Now, he's the
Rick Monday of ann Arbor. Like, you guys played a
football game.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
At least they got pepper sprayed. You know, you went
out there, you were organized in ten years and five
years your whole life. You're gonna sit there and say, yeah,
he had five tackles against Michigan or whatever. And what
I mean, you're fighting over a flag? Come on, come on, guys,
what are we doing?
Speaker 2 (23:26):
How was the game? Well, the game was great, and
I got pepper sprayed and couldn't see for twenty minutes
after shocked. Oh and then like yeah, sitting next to
my teammate crying on the sideline in the post game
that was me. That was my lot.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
And then of course the Ohio State like sideline girl
of note, you know whoever that is? Hey, I caught
pepper spray. You know she's got a live video down there,
and it's just like, you know what, this is so bad?
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Why are we doing? Can we win the game? Hold hands, pray,
swap some jerseys and get to the locker room, or
just get to the locker room. That's a really good
if you're upset, and I get it.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
You think I wanted to shake hands with well Born
and his potso sticking out.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
I don't want to, but I will. You know, I
don't want to.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
I didn't shake his You know, if you don't want
to shake hands, it's okay. That's that's the great thing
about college football and pro football. If you don't want
to shake hands, if you're too pissed off. You can
go up the tunnel.
Speaker 5 (24:20):
You can what's the third alternative? Just stand there frozen
like Jason Day, stand out amazed.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Jason Day, the evil brother of Ryan Ryan Day. Excuse me?
He is so weird looking with that beard man and
that freaking hair and the eye liner. Look at guys,
Tom Herman and Day. Way to go a couple of winners.
Herman can drive the hell out of a van. Okay,
he can drive the hell out of a van. And
maybe it'll be in the van in Downey when we're
(24:46):
there on Thursday. You see him passed out a sticker,
matt Oh, he can pass out of hell of us.
Now listen, guys, I don't want you sticking this on
any table, Sir Peachas. Okay, let's save him for when
you get home. All right, you got it, Tom, that's
great advice. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Maybe Herman will show up down Let's go gino tourette
at the last one. Recently fired and disgraced Texas and
South Florida coach sitting on tens of millions of dollars
of buy out money.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
It's Tom Herman.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Okay, we'll be back with Tarheem still hero of the
Charger victory in Atlanta last night or yesterday.

Speaker 1 (25:57):

play him some Go Go music. Although he has new
Jersey roots. Fifth round pick star Heat tar Heab still
star Heat Heab still, but they're calling him star Heap
today because of the pick six and another pick as
the defense saved the Chargers and they win and keep
(26:18):
their great season going and they beat the Atlanta Falcons.
Joining us right now on your Southern California Toyota Dealer
Celebrity Hotline. It is tar Heaps still star Heb On
the Petrousen Buddy Show, What's Cracking tar Heab?
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Congratulations, how are you. Welcome to the show.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Thank you guys for having me. I'm doing well, coming
off a good one yesterday.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
So very excited for a guy like you.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
I mean, obviously you have team goals, but you're a
professional football player, you're a draft pick, you have some
individual goals and personal goals as well. How did it
feel to show out like that on that stage here?
That announcer yelling your dad is pretty sweet? Oh.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
I would just say it felt great because all week
and then really all the time, we always talk about opportunity,
knowing that every opportunity we get, we get we got
to take advantage of it. And that was our next
biggest opportunity yesterday, and I think guys took it serious.
We set ourselves up to make plays, and we got
to come out of there with the wings. So that's
(27:23):
always great.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Sorry, give us an idea of just kind of how
comfortable you are. I mean, it's it's week twelve. You're
you're not really a rookie anymore, right, You've been through
eleven now twelve games in the NFL. They got you
playing all over the field, inside, outside, some safety. Do
you feel like you kind of know all the ins
and outs? Of this defense at this point, I.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Would just say that the coaches do a great job
of preparing me and also breaking down to me what's
going on on the field defensively. I would just say
I'm not I wouldn't say I'm where where I want
to be in the end, but obviously it's a work
in progress from getting better each week with the help
for my coaches and my teammates. But I would just
(28:07):
say I'm getting more and more comfortable as the season
goes on, feeling better out there and confidence make place.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
I remember during training camp, Derwin James was asked about
the rookies and how they were coming along, and he
mentioned you specifically. He mentioned, you know, Tar, he's a
baller and you're going to see him out on the
field this year. Give us an idea of what that
relationship was like just when you first met him, how
the two of you have kind of worked your way
through this season, and what he's meant to kind of
where you're at now as a player.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
I would just say, our reallyship has grown a lot.
When I first came in, I just wanted to really
come in and work and show those guys that I
deserve to be out there playing or even that I'm
good enough to go out there and make plays and
help us win that. So I wanted to prove in
the beginning. And then once those guys figured out that
I could play, especially guys like DJ, like you really
(28:56):
just took me under his wing and I really showed
me the ropes of how to go about everything. And now,
like there's still times I still ask him questions about
certain stuff, but I mean he's been a great vet
to me also like a big brother, really just showing
me the ropes of how things go, the things to do,
the things not to do. But they're also preparing for
the game to set up for success. Uh. And now
(29:17):
we have a great relationship. We talk a lot, So
I thank you for that.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Tar Heap still joining us right now.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
A couple of picks yesterday against Atlanta Chargers. Cornerback dB
really plays all over the place on the Petro said
Money Show. We're happy to have him, tar Heep. How
much do the guys talk out there? Uh? You know,
I know you guys, those receivers are tired. You know,
they run a bunch of routes in a row. But
how much do they talk to you? Guys out there,
do they say much and do you say anything back?
(29:44):
Do you have to take your mouthpiece out to say it?
Speaker 4 (29:49):
I don't really I'm not really a big trash talking guy.
I would say I was. I was doing that in college,
but uh now it's really about work. It's about business.
You got to know how to handle your business. So
I'm really not worried about trash talking or receiver talking
to me. I'd like to just me. I like to
get my get my talking in with my play, I
(30:11):
would say. So, I'm not really a guy that's gonna
go out there and trash talk or talk to other
team or do all of that. I'm just gonna make
plays with my team, celebrate, and we make plays and then,
you know, lett, let our play get the talking for us.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
So if you don't talk, no one talks to you.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
Guys might have talk to me.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
I might laugh at him.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Okay, you know, I mean because in college you came out.
You guys would come out to the pure essence the
go go, and Locksley is a big tough dude and
kind I mean Maryland. You know you kind of have
to you know, you have to have a little bit
of swagger. In that way, am I not? Am I
wrong to say?
Speaker 4 (30:47):
No? Definitely got to have a little bit of swagger.
But also, you know, you can't make like matchups personal,
and that's what happens a lot of times. Gods get
to talking to other people, to the receivers, and the
matchup is more about you and him and not about
the team winning. So I learned that early on in college.
So really just about going out there doing my job,
let my play talk, and then you know, you can
talk after the game when you win, So that's always fun.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
I planted the flag exactly right. That goes really well
when that happens.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
That's what's going on in college flaw right now. A
lot of flag, a lot of flag planning. But so yeah,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
The we mentionally we played the pick six. So went
back into the college stats, and you had five picks
last year, your senior year, but didn't see a touchdown.
How long has it been since you've scored a touchdown
playing football? Did I miss something in there?
Speaker 4 (31:33):
How long has it been since I scored a touchdown
playing football? I had a punk return, the ninety three
yard punk return touchdown in college?
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Come down every year.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Twenty one Pinch Strike Bowl. Before that, I haven't scored
a touchdown probably since my senior year high school playing
wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Okay stadium though, Yeah, Pinstripe, that's not like the I
scored a touchdown on the sun Boltropolis.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
I know what it's like. I touched this on in
the sun Now.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Did were you worry last night or or Sunday Saturday
night when you saw Locksley grab the back of James
Franklin's head that Locksley was gonna pop Franklin's head right
off his shoulders like a pass dispenser.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
I mean, I'm not sure what was gonna happen. I'm
sure coach watch news he was doing those moments, but yeah,
I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
I love it. Your your defensive backs coach, coach Klint,
He's Michigan guy, Jesse Minning, your DC Michigan guy. Coach Harbaugh,
Michigan guy. It was kind of funny, uh in the
meal room with all the Michigan people. Joey Boso, Ohio State.
How how strong? And I mean, so you're just out
(32:44):
of college, but how strong do you feel the collegiate
ties when a big game like that part in the
find a big a game like that is on. Uh,
and there are opposing sides on a team.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Uh. I mean that's one of the things that's the
craziest part. Like in the locker room, you know, guys
always talking to trash about their team. You know, guys
always talking, Oh, who y'all got this week? We all play. So,
I mean, this year wasn't the best year for Maryland,
but I would just say, you know, it's always fun,
you know, talking trash to each other about oh, our
teams are playing each other, or do you think Ohio
(33:16):
State or Michigan is going to win today? You know,
stuff like that, and then it really brings the team together.
You know, guys Bonds watched the game. We're also having
a good laugh, having a good time. So I would
just think everybody enjoys it. The guy that gets to
talk to most right now is Troy Die because they're
currently undefeated, number one in the country Oregon, so just
got to let him have it.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
You'll face Kansas City for the second time this season
on Sunday Sunday Night Game, Sunday Night Football, another prime
time affair. They were what week three or week four,
I think it was Week three no. Week four was
Kansas City at Week four Week four, so kind of
what do you remember from from watching that game back
and what you expect to see and what's it like
(33:57):
to be a defensive back when you're on the field
and Trick Mahomes is the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
I would just say, you gotta, you know, be on
your p's and your cues. You gotta know really the situation,
know what they're trying to do, how they're trying to attack.
You know the weakness of your call. But I would
just say, thinking back to the first time we played him,
that was my first NFL game. Because I didn't play
the first few games, I end up starting the Kansas
City game, And I would say, those guys, they do
(34:24):
a lot of things well, obviously they have a great quarterback,
but really it's just gonna come down to us doing
our job, playing kind of football we know we can play,
and then that starts in preparation and practice. But I
would just say it's it's a great opportunity for everybody really,
for us to just show what kind of team we are,
what kind of team we're trying to let the football
(34:44):
world know that we are we can be. So I
thought guys are excited for the opportunity, but also who
doesn't like primetime, big time games?
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Exactly right?
Speaker 1 (34:53):
And you telled that Troy Die that he could act
all hard if he wants, but he's really from Norco
and we all know it. The great Tarheam is still
a real g and a great young professional doing big
things with the Chargers in his rookie season. You're a
great young guy. Stay healthy and congratulations on your success
so far, Tarre.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Thanks for doing it.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Oh, thank you, guys, appreciate you for having me on
the show.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
There we go, Tarried still Huskies, Norco Huskies. I think
they're the Cougars. But it's Horsetown, USA. Horsetown USA. That's
what a normOn. That's what you do. Yeah, you ride
your horse of the game. Actually, and they do. Let's go.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
The most fun I had doing those COVID games. And
that's an end of an era, you know. The the
games aren't on Fan Dual Sports anymore or a ballet FSN.
They're they're gone now.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
The quad box and the high school game's gone and
all that great production. But one of the most challenge
still carries the torch.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
The most fun, the most fun that I had was
doing it Norco game where they beat Corona Centennial, which
is they don't do that. It used to be flipped.
They were the power and that his Troy Gerhart, Toby's dad,
the coach at Noorco was anyway. Uh, they they beat
them and they were so joyful. I had a big
(36:18):
cowboy hat. And when I left, all the kids jumped
into the pool. They ran across and they jumped into
that pool right across from the stadium and they were
all waving at the old Silverado. When I drove away honking,
it was and everybody was, and everybody they there's a
whole area where people stand on horses and watch like
on this ridge. You know, it's like the good, the bad,
(36:38):
and the ugly out there. That's where you're from. Die
Quit talking about Oregon. Troy died. You guys are from
I don't remember. I didn't do any of those kids.
We'll be back with how was your weekend?
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Then?
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Thanks for listening everybody. We're so proud of our audience
and we expect you to show up in the Gateway Cities. Yes,
bjys on Thursday, A quick turnaround remote.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
We didn't want to bug you.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Through the holiday weekend, but we will be live at
the BJS in Downy in two days on Thursday from
two to five. It's right there at the Stonewood Center.
You don't want to miss us. So thank you. Thank
you to Tarheb, still Chargers player with the two picks
who joined us in the last segment.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
He was really cool.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
And we'll have word number, song, flip, top story, vassay
about Snell and the big press conference tomorrow. But right now,
since it is Mondays, I'm gonna do what I do.
The weekend is mine. So how was your weekend?
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Man?
Speaker 1 (37:48):
You've been gone since Wednesday. We're out out of town. There,
out of town.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
First time back to see the folks on Thanksgiving since
nineteen ninety one. And it's wonderful to see that very
little has changed at my cousin Claudia's house. I got
that vibe from a video you sent me, Yes Bears
on complete meltdown in the second half.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
That's what you know, That's what my house is going
to be like, you know, like wow, nothing here has changed.
It's like, yeah, no, I bought this house. That's all
the money I have, and now nothing is ever gonna change. Yeah,
we made the outside look like like it could be
nice on the inside. But if you come inside, if
you come into my house, what.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
You get, like Pedro Martinez, get a bunch of idiots
drinking beer, screaming at the TV. Scuff's gone cool. They
got a fur fluce, kid, take it anymore. That's a
bad meltdown. Yeah, and they did fire, and they did,
and they were all very happy about that. I mostly
stayed out of the way of my cousin Darryl, carving
the turkey and serving the turkey and all of that,
(38:46):
but he did ask for my advice, so I did
offer him. I hold off carving until they got everything
ready to serve thearro. That's just me like, it looks
like there's still all the sides in the oven. You
still don't have the table set. I said, you weren't
going to do it, I said, he said, he's like,
what do you think I should do here? So he
asked solicited. I then went a step too far, and
(39:07):
after it was carved and they still weren't serving the meal,
I was like, hey, Darryl, if i'm you, I'm putting
that thing in the oven. Man, I'm just I'm putting
the platter in the oven. I get a couple pads
of butter. I throw it on there. He's like, you
don't think it'll dry out. I was like, Claude's not
ready to serve man, She's not. I mean, nobody's in
the kitchen. This thing's gonna be sitting there for a while. Instead,
he just put the foil back on. Maybe inserted myself
(39:28):
a little too much. Friday morning donuts back mad You
said you weren't a part of him, but he was.
He was on. He thanked me for telling her to
put the beach tiel on top of the foil when
he was keeping it warm. Friday morning. My old man
goes to get donuts every morning with coffee. My youngest Preston,
and I went with him to Dunkin Donuts. Back home,
my younger nephews met me to play some crossbows and catapults,
(39:49):
which we do every time I come to town and
Lucas and I lost to Colin and ol Off. It
was great seeing my daughter Peyton in town from New York,
and then flew to atlant on Friday Friday night, hung
out Saturday, prepped for the game. Most of the day,
walked around Centennial Park, did not get shived or shot
or anything like that. Seemed like it was a calm atmosphere,
(40:10):
even though something did some freaknick ass ride though I
did that. I did of big weeds tard just seeing
a big old ass. It's Saturday, Sunday chargers falcons. Uh
no Wi Fi on the plane? Yeah, what happened? Mass
(40:31):
So whatever you had on your iPad is what you had?
A raw dog? What did I rod dog? Dog the air?
I raw dog the air and I row dog north Shore.
That's what I had. Of course, of course that's what
was on my iPad and two episodes of the Ashes.
I have a cricket.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Sadly, I have Gambit with Michael Caine and Shirley McLean
and I'm like.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
North Shore, Like really, that's what your mind's like. It's
all I got Wi Fi. This is my story.
Speaker 5 (40:57):
I am Rick Kane exactly right. My future Kate had
a great weekend. I did not travel to Michigan or
Chicago or Atlanta, but I did have a great Thanksgiving.
The night before, went to smoke House with my parents
for dinner. Thanksgiving Day, me and my wife and daughters
went to go see Sinatra.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
I did. I got the estaate Sinatra is us is
Gladiator too? As bad as everybody says it's it's not great.
I mean it's entertaining for two plus, but I wasn't
like it's okay it was. It wasn't like Russell Crowe,
are you entertained my vengeance?
Speaker 4 (41:32):
No?
Speaker 2 (41:32):
And Phoenix like, oh no.
Speaker 5 (41:39):
It very much goes back to the first one. A
lot of flashbacks. Thanksgiving dinner with my wife's side of
the family. Black Friday, I spent in Culver City for
Compass Media that were covered with the Raiders broadcast against
the Chiefs that did not end well.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Saturday, Yes Man.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
Texas Texas A and m on Compass Media Networks Texas
ended up beating them pretty handily. Sunday went to church
and afterwards we went to Canoga Park and went to
a place called Mains Kitchen Cafe.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
Well, you spent a lot of time in Canoga I
don't know why.
Speaker 5 (42:06):
I've never been to Kunoga Park more than a handful
of times, and twice in the last week, is that right? Yes,
went to on Tuesday night, and then this weekend we
went to Maine Kitchen Cafe on Desota, which is cool.
It's a nice little spot, looks pretty newish last couple
of years had opened, so I had enjoyed lunch there
and then last night got up on all.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Though that is a it's not like it's Burbank ADJACENTZ.
I used to live right next to Knogan Woodland Hills.
That's what twenty minutes twenty minutes to then another ten
off the freeway. Look at that.
Speaker 5 (42:34):
Yeah, it's like right in the middle of the arm
pit of the valley. We're going to Kodoga.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Let's go Hunters, Ronnie. I was your Thanksgiving week.
Speaker 6 (42:42):
I had a nice Thanksgiving weekend, Thank you very much.
We celebrated Thanksgiving in my sister in law's house this
year and had a wonderful time with family, food and foosball. Friday,
I was here at the radio station for just a
little bit for a schedule doctor's appointment that I had
on Friday afterwards in the afternoon, so I left here,
went to the doctors, went home, made some leftovers, drank
(43:06):
some beer, and watched basketball. You know that fancy cup.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
Oh yes, Friday Night, Tuesday Fridays and be very exciting stuff.
Speaker 6 (43:14):
Saturday, I took out Christmas from storage and decorated the
inside of the house with my wife, opened a bottle
of wine, did some online shopping, and watched National Lampoon's
Christmas Vacation and a drunken Stupor Wow. Slept in on Sunday,
did domestic stuff around the house, and then we went
to Mucco Moss. All burned out from the freaking leftovers.
I wanted to have a nice Mexican dinner, so we
(43:36):
went to Mucco Mass and NoHo for dinner, cocktail and
uh watched the Sunday night game which they had on
inside the restaurant. And that was my Thanksgiving weekend.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Fabulous, a fabulous time.
Speaker 6 (43:47):
It was, indeed, Petros, what about you, well, I.
Speaker 1 (43:50):
Do like, you know, speaking of the Chiefs Chargers aren't
Chiefs Raiders game. I do like like whenever an official
in any game at any level of football gets or
it gets knocked over, somebody tweets Chiefs play are hurt.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Exactly. It's pretty funny. I was, as you guys know, Uh,
I mean, it was a false start. The guy's waving
the play dead right that you can't have the line
judge waving his arms to stop the play and then
the Chiefs scooped the ball up and they're like, oh, yeah,
that's fumble recovered by the defense.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
You know, uh, as a football analyst officially, I have
a deeper understanding of.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
The game than you guys. And I know why they
did that. Why why It's so they could let the
Chiefs win exactly, because I'll be damned if the Raiders
are gonna win again. I've never seen anything like it.
False start, plays over, plays over, guys, all right, plays over. No,
it's not well at all. We kind of liked what
(44:47):
happened on that place, so we're gonna, we're gonna, we're
gonna give him the ball there, excuse me? Did it
giving them the ball? Yep, that's what we're doing. Can
I have my cake and eat it? All right? Yes?
Speaker 1 (45:00):
I was ripped from the warm bosom of my family's
hearth at my uncle Tommy's house for Thanksgiving, torn from
their arms, and sent to East Lansing, Michigan. Tearful goodbye.
Sod wasn't very happy. I was not very happy.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
I did. I don't want to.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
Say I overcame my anxiety, but I got to East Lancing.
From the second I got to Detroit. To the moment
I left the area, it snowed. I guess snow flurries,
but it seemed like there was like a whole bunch
of snow on the ground and just a lot of snow.
I've never I've done games in the snow. I've done
worse games in colder weather where I had to stand
(45:40):
out there the whole time, but this was a lot
of snow. It was extremely cold. I must work with
way too many Michigan people, or around too many Michigan people,
because none of them have anything nice to say about
East Lancing. And I thought it was a charming and
beautiful place, not a big place, a beautiful place, very nice.
(46:00):
And whoever the guy and the game was, Jonathan Smith
was wonderful. There's no room to get into Blake Ezor
and Andre Risen and Percy Snow and Lorenzo White and
all the things I wanted to celebrate about the Spartans
because they got absolutely destroyed by Greg Ciano and Rutgers
and they're running back Kyle Mnunguy so whatever U. Whoever
the textoso guy is that sent me to Grand Rapids
(46:25):
gave you the heads up to He's that said, it's
too tight for you to get to to Detroit to
get that nice you should go to Grand Rapids. It's
an easy deal to O'Hare. And I was like, I
don't know why I took the advice. I don't know
why why because it's a it's a person that I
don't even know. But I did take the advice. And
(46:46):
everybody I saw normally you let everybody else do your travel.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
You like what I did. I did let somebody do it,
but but you and I say, I'm believe.
Speaker 1 (46:54):
In from Grand Rapids And I was like yes, And
then everybody I talked to was like, yeah, lying out
or what times you're flying from Detroit. I was like,
fly out of Grand Raps, fly out of ware.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
We got a lot of smaller and you're like going.
I was like, oh God in Heaven, what have I done.
I'm gonna die?
Speaker 1 (47:09):
Like literally, like a woman talked about like, oh they
got nine inches last night general and my face like
all the any blood that was in my face left
my face, and.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
Uh, planes, trains and automobiles. Thanks Giving a Grand Rapids
I got. I got to the gerald Ford Airport, very
popular in the state of Michigan now gerald Ford.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
It was like a little bit bigger than the Burbank
airport maybe, but emptier. And the lady was like, I'm
gonna leave the bar open for another twenty minutes for you.
Look like, hey, Midwest hospitals last night, people are painfully nice.
Speaker 2 (47:39):
Right. I got over Lake, Michigan, got the hour back,
and now you're in O'Hare, busiest airport in the world,
port to Prince Haiti. People laid out on the ground.
I mean it's Sumatra Mayhem.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
Three hour delay here, three of people talking on the phone,
yelling at their family, three levels of gay, people crying,
people angry, but not me. I got on a plane
and I got so you Textoso that sent me through
Grand Rapids.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Thank you, sir. Did any of your co workers get stuck?
Speaker 1 (48:10):
Well, everybody was dispersed, you know, Dan Helly had to
go do a hoops game. The young guy spent the
night in Detroit. Everybody's you know, Tower of Babbel, You
know how it is, matt Uh. This one went to Canada,
but thank you Michigan Textoso.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Good stuff there. Uh.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
And then you know I couldn't sleep when I got home.
I didn't know if it was like four am, so
I said, right, yeah, well I got home at like
three point thirty and uh, anyway, yesterday Isabelle wanted everybody
to know. She called me and I we talked. She
still wants Dave Roberts number from Kate's Kates get on
(48:48):
waiting for Dave Roberts number.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
And she she wanted.
Speaker 1 (48:51):
Me to tell you, Matt that we have talked, that
we talked that you She said, make sure you tell
Matt that you have told you and I talked, gotcha.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
And I said, yeah, okay, I'll do that. And I
went to Casta Plaia in the Redondo area and ate
a Beata cheese burrito alone and drank a Mexican beer
just to celebrate my re entry into the state of California,
which I very rarely leave decently to do it. And
that was my weekend. You know, sometimes they say to
let something go free and to see if it returns,
(49:19):
and when it returns, it has more appreciation after having left.
So maybe you just needed a reset, maybe like you
were starting to take advantage of this wonderful glory. What
I really needed was Xanax douesn California, right, But it
was great to see Jonathan Smith, and man, it felt bad.
They really got their puzza knock. Oh you know you're one,
mel Tucker left it empty cupboard spear.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
Well, they did get the number one quarterback out of
the transfer portal.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Did you extend the invite to him for a Dodger game?
Speaker 1 (49:47):
Yes, I gave him my phone number and I told
him he can go to the suite the quarterback or
Jonathan Jonathan. But I did talk to the quarterback. Michigan
State was really cool. They were very accommodating and I
found the whole thing. And I love that Spartan theme,
Matt because of my Grecian heritage and the Greek key
that they incorporate everywhere.
Speaker 2 (50:05):
Hell of a mascot Greek key. It was one thing.
Speaker 1 (50:08):
It was like, hey, stay tuned for the Michigan coaching.
Michigan State coaches shown. I was like, cool, I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (50:12):
Wall to wall is.
Speaker 1 (50:13):
Oh they need to do any football it's basketball season.
We'll be right back with your word number.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
