Speaker 2 (01:03):
Well, Good Monday, even never Want and welcome live to
Cornerstone University's Mala Reno, where tonight for our MCU High
School Basketball Game of the Week is part of the
CU High School Hoops Holiday Tournament. We feature a boys
matchup this go round as Zay Larthridge and the Cougars
of ground Affit's Catholic Central square off with Cam Carroll
and the Bulldogs of Fyrons Center. Hello everyone and happy holidays.
(01:26):
Is along with Buck Gino. I'm Brett Pakita court side
for game two of our three nights of coverage here
at the Cornerstone High School Hoops Holiday Tournament, an annual
tradition for us when it comes to our regular season
kickoff of games, and just wrapping up, you heard the
final buzzer as we went on the air. Rockford with
a nice win on the boys side, or Muskege won
a Shore sixty nine to forty eight. Jake Baskom the
(01:48):
big man for the Rams sixteen points to lead the way.
But Gino, we welcome in court side. Out of the cold.
Football season is done. You've got your sandhan on and
you're ready to warm things up with some high school hoops.
And I tell you great crowd for this game before ours.
We expect a big crowd for Byron Center at Catholic Country.
You look at this matchup, Bulldogs coming at five and one,
Cougar's at four and two.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, two good teams in the area. And that's why
I like about this tournament. They always seem to get
good matchups. Boys and girls, always very good matchups. And
here we had Rockford and Mona Shores, old rivals, you know,
the old days in the red You're back and I
go too far, but back when you.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
Used to play right it went back all the way there.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
But it's a great atmosphere and right now they're doing
the players of the game where both teams get recognized,
and yeah, it's a good for all these local teams
to have a nice showcase and Cornerstone gracious enough to host.
I mean they're going from like it started on Saturday
and I think it ends in July.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
I mean, that's how many games they have here.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
But it's great for the sports, great for all these
high schools to get a chance to play in a
big arena, big gym, in front of a lot of people.
Here and again the Christmas season, a lot of people
are back home, alumni and family, So it's a great
atmosphere for all those players to have their families and
relatives come and get to play some good basketball against
some good teams that you normally wouldn't get to play.
(03:09):
And that's what's gonna happen with Byron Center and Catholic
Central here tonight.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Well, we tipped it off Friday night, Jason Hutt and
joined us. We're gonna have kind of a rotation of
color analysts this year. Drewe knightsil taking a year off.
He's going to coach his son and be kind of
dad for a year as the Knights of Family wish
them well happy holidays. He's done a great job over
the years and excited to get you guys from the
Grit Iron Switching over, Tom Ken's going to join me
for our next broadcast coming up January second. That'll be
(03:34):
Coopersville and Cadillac from this same tournament. And to your point,
nine days, over fifty teams girls and boys combined with
the schools from all over the state, they've really expanded
this tournament. Aaron sat Graves, the athletic director here at
Cornerstone University and kind of our host for this annual
holiday tournament, is going to join us coming up in
(03:55):
our pre game coverage and we'll talk about some big
matchups still to come. I know one he's really excited
about Wamba West Valley, a smaller school over in the
Lancet area taking on South Christian News gotten out of
the Blake blocks slow, but you look at it compared
to the competition they've played. I mean they've played one
of the toughest schedules around. When you look at Byron Center,
Catholic Central, I'm sorry, Byron Center Unity Christian all on
(04:16):
their schedule.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Well, you know, Forestows Northern, my home district.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
They played school Craft in a tight ball game here
a couple days ago and that was a Division three
and Division one matchup. So that's the other thing that
you get to do here in these non conference tournament showcases.
You get to play these teams, get to come to
the big city, get to come to Grand Rapids or
you know, from wherever they're coming from, and they get
to play good teams, like I said that they normally
(04:40):
wouldn't get to. And it's great that Cornerstone has done
this and it's expanded.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
A lot, Brett.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
I mean when they started it was one maybe two days,
and now it stretches all through Christmas break and beyond.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
So it's great for these programs.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
And we have two teams here that they know each
other well, but because it's a showcase, they get to
play each other in a regular season test and two
good teams that are matching up. A lot of exciting
players on both teams. Of course, Catholic central TJ. Meerman
steps down last season after last season, and he's gonna
spend some more time kind of like drews to and
(05:12):
he's gonna spend some more time with family and is
his new nonprofit organization that he recently launched.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
So good luck to coach TJ. Meerman.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
I know he's probably listening right now, maybe he's even
here watching his former players, but you know his new
the new coach had stepped in for them. Chris Barrow
is no stranger to basketball. He was TJ's assistant last year,
played at Davenport, played at Grand Valley, so well schooled.
The younger guy knows all the players, so I expect
a lot of cohesion. And then, of course, on the
other side, Byron center Joe Rodriguez took over the program
(05:42):
a couple of years ago and has done a tremendous job.
And boy makes a coach a job a little bit
easier when he got guys like Camden Carroll who has
committed to bowling Greek State and coach Todd Simon. But
they've got great athletes, I think for Byron Sarah the
most the thing impresses me is they got a couple
of football guys on here. They got off to a
pretty hot start. Of course, the football team is a
little busy up until Thanksgiving with that state championship final run.
(06:05):
But boy, they've had a really nice start and I
expect two good teams to go added here.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Yeah, there lone loss for the Bulldogs at Byron Center
came to Granvild home, but it was when Isaac Lee
was out. He was doing some football visits, a Division
one prospects, still kind of figuring out where he wants
to go, but a heck of a basketball player, as
you mentioned. So he's now been backing the lineup and
his first game back, they beat South Christian at the
Calvin Invites Saturday at go So interesting to see as
(06:32):
Isaac Lee kind of gets his basketball legs underneath him
as you mentioned, and a couple other guys for this
Bulldog roster as well. We're counting down a tip offield
the jay NHS Family Stores pre game show about twelve
minutes until we get our Sporting News starting lineups that
were underway. Catholic Central against Byron Center on the boys side.
It's all part of the CU Holiday High School Hoops Tournament,

(09:13):
Aaron sat Graves Athletic Director, Aaron always good to see it. Congratulations.
This is the biggest tournament you guys have ever hosted
as far as number of teams, programs and statewide. Really
at Impact.
Speaker 9 (09:23):
Yeah, it's been an awesome year so far. I mean
just to have fifty two.
Speaker 10 (09:27):
Different schools in the tournament this year, sixty four different
teams between the boys and girls. This is the most
girls teams that we had as well too. Usually have
one or two brackets of girls teams. This year we
got six different brackets of girls teams. So it's been
a lot of fun to see the girls in this
big community effect. I mean, look at it tonight. You
see a lot of great community support for these kids
(09:47):
and a lot of good basketball to be played.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Well, you see at the girls level.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Obviously, with the probability of Caleb Clark and some of
the other players.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
You said you had the most girls teams.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Ever, is that something that you guys made a focus
of or was that just something that kind of happened
to organically. Those girls teams wanted to come and you
guys were able to accommodate them.
Speaker 9 (10:03):
Yeah, really a little of both.
Speaker 10 (10:05):
Really, the Okay Conference realigning this year that hurt us.
It was it's been a kind of a mess, to
be honest.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
I mean, we've made the.
Speaker 10 (10:12):
Most of it, but there's a lot of schools that
are kind of our homegrown teams in the tournament. The
Forest Hills, the Roxford, the North View of the Grand Rapids,
Christian they're all in the same conference now, so that
really hurt us. But we had to expand a little bit,
but the girls programs in West Michigan are as good
as they've ever been with Rockford and West Catholic in Hudsonville.
There's so many good programs in West Michigan. We want
(10:34):
to give them the chance to play on the college stage.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
So our ardy, you've had Friday Night, Saturday. Obviously tonight
you'll take a break for the Christmas break, but then
you're going to go in and pass the New year
highlights some of the big dates and also matchups that
are you looking forward to? Pawama and South Christian's gonna
be a good one.
Speaker 10 (10:50):
Oh that's I think that's next Friday, the twenty seventh
of it, Remember right, I don't. I might be off
a little bit, but I think it's next Friday. Yes,
it is next Friday. Palamo Boys versus South Christian. I'm
really excited about that one with Taylor Johnson his team
at South and then Pooma one of the best teams
in Division three. So I mean, they've got a couple
of really, really good players. But there's some new teams
(11:11):
this year as well. Portage Central's coming up. They're one
of the top teams in Division one. Okamiz Holt, and
then we got the Trinity Christian Mark Keeler in his
last year. We're gonna do some recognition for him. He's
the one that kind of started this tournament back in
the late nineties, him and Bob Becker. If you can
believe it, we're one of the first few people to
put this tournament together. So excited to see some of
(11:31):
those local teams step up and play well.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Also, you look at the schedule, You've got your men's teams.
They're playing either before or during some of these games.
Talk about that effect as well, not only for the
kids to see some college basketball locally, but also recruiting
and really just kind of showing up the program that aspect.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Yeah, we put our men's team.
Speaker 10 (11:50):
They launched the tournament on Friday, and we had a
lot of people here that are playing the games right after.
We have a few alumni coaching and some of those teams,
so they were able a chance to bring their teams
to the tournament to see our guys play, and then
right after the Christmas holiday they play Friday against Great Christian.
It's a great recruiting opportunity for us. You put all
these kids in this building and you see all these
(12:11):
crowds forming to see the history of the program as well.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
What also helps you, guys attendance wise too, because Christmas
rag Avancy students are either going home or doing something else,
so that also helps you guys kind of give that atmosphere, right.
Speaker 10 (12:23):
Yeah, we were supposed to have a kids game on
that first day on the twentieth, and it was a
snow day for half of West Michigan, so that did
not help us. I don't think any of the kids'
schools that we had coming. I don't think any of
them had school that day, so that was a bummer.
But it'll work out next year.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Aaron, great job. We're happy to be a part of that. No,
Myers for presenting sponsor. Tell us for the fans out
there listening right now what they need to know information
wise as far as tickets and where they can go
to get that schedule, because it is pretty comprehensive. Yeah,
Seeugoldeneagles dot com.
Speaker 9 (12:54):
That's our athletic website.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
They can go there.
Speaker 10 (12:56):
There's a holiday tournament page dedicated just to this tournament ticket.
She just show over the door. We're not going to
sell out any game. I mean, we put thirty two
hundred people in here. I'd love to sell out a game,
and I'd love to turn people away. I don't think
that's gonna happen, though, but so just show up to
the game. The tickets are ten dollars for adults, seven
for students and seniors. We're excited to see the finishing
the tournament next week.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Hey, thanks for partnering with us again this year. We
love it.
Speaker 11 (13:19):
Thanks for having me guys.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
All right, Aaron sat Graves joining us here, athletic director
of Cornerstone University, and again the guy behind putting this
all together in his staff have been phenomenal as well.
I mean, this is a labor of love for them,
because you got people working six hours, eight hours, and
they're working every day except for Christmas Eve, Christmas and
New Year's.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Well, and like you said, during the holiday season, it's tough,
but they do it.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
They do it well.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
So heads off to Cornerstone University and they put on
a heck of a show.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
And we're going to get a heck of a show here.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
So we are Byron Center and Grand Rapids Catholic Central
on the boys side, We're counting you down to tip

The most common form of treatment for the arthurdic joints
is normally cortazone injections and gel shots and over the

My name is Brett Pickett. Glad to have you along
on this Monday night high school basketball brought to you
(16:40):
by Lake Michigan Credit Union. One of the things that
we transition over and sixteen to three pointers later for
the ladies on Friday night is our Baskets for Kids program,
fifty dollars made every time a three pointer goes in
during our LMSU game of the week. Now we just
have the Grand Rapids area game, but if they keep
filling them up those numbers, I might get a call
(17:02):
from Matt Cook and LMC. We had eight hundred dollars books,
you know, in our first game, and that's the way
it tipped off last year with Les Kathick and Rock
from the girl's side. We'll see because we have some
people that can fill it up tonight for Catholic Central
and Byron Center.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Well, and you look at the percentages that they're shooting,
and you look from from deep, it's now like Byron
Center lives and dies by the three, but they shoot
a pretty good percentage, led by Kean Hinkel at forty
seven and a half percent and then actually Isaac Lee
at fifty percent and Kean Hinkle at forty seven percent
and Cash is bought the two year varsity player, he's
(17:35):
only a junior. He's at forty two point nine percent.
So they can gun it. Now they're only shooting one,
maybe two or even sometimes three three points of games,
so it's not.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
What they like to do, but they are able to
do it.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
From deep in the Catholic Central, they look to work,
they get to good shot. This is something that this
is a different Catholic Central team that we were used
to seeing.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
You know, it's not Jack Karisski and fan fed Brooks.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
It's it's not those guys that are playing here anymore.
Or it's gonna be a little bit more deliberate and
a little bit more of a slower pace. So they're
gonna be flying up and down the floor. So we'll
like to see how they set up and see if
they can get those open jumpers.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
One thing for sure, as we look at your keys
to the contest is points in a paint. There are
some big bodies out here tonight, led by Cam Carroll,
the six foot nine player out of Byron Center who's
committed to bowling Green State University, and I tell you
he's got some size. On the other side, Zay Larthridge
plays like a guard, but he's six six books, you know,
so he can take it inside, not afraid to attack
(18:32):
the rim. And that's gonna be fun to watch as
well as a transition game between these two teams.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
Yeah, I mean, really the keys for Catholic Central and
that's gonna be the Christmas teams right now. So the
good things that come to those who wait Catholic Central,
they are gonna work the ball around. They're going to
pass ball, try to find those good shots. Byron Center
dash away, dash away, dashway all. They like to get
out on the floor. They like to run the open court,
(18:57):
so that's what they're gonna want to try to do.
But they also spread the ball around. It's not just
Cam Carroll. There's a lot of capable scorers on that team,
and they're gonna want to get out and run, get
those guys in lanes and try to fill the basket
and the paint. And then really, for both teams, you
better not pount and you'd better not cry, because this
(19:17):
is a game where if you let the other team
dictate how you're gonna play, it can get ugly early.
If you're Byron Center, you can't get frustrated that Catholic
Central might not want to run with you. You gotta
play their game. You gotta play your game as well.
And if you're Catholic Central, if Byron Center goes on
a quick little run, you can't hang your head because
all of a sudden, it's gonna be a fifteen to
(19:38):
twenty point game and it's gonna be really hard for
you to come back.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
So those are the keys to the contest.
Speaker 2 (19:42):

up with the high school basketball. Sea's in girls and boys,
(20:03):
and we are as well as Let's take a look
at your sporting You starting laps for Catholic Central B. B.
Watkins junior. He can really fill it up the lefty
from outside. Then you've got Jordan McCoy, the point guard,
also a junior, Zay Larthridge, a junior sixty six getting
Division one looks already. Colin Lott another junior, so a
young team. As Buckalutat to number fifteen, he can swap
(20:25):
things inside. He'll be a factor than Jack Bowen, the
lone senior number twenty four, but a great player returning
for the Cougars from a year ago. And he'll go
up against Byron Center, the big fellow Camp Carroll. The
opening tap won by Byron Center, movie left already to
radio down the neon orange uniforms, the black numbers, great
trim Isaac Lear point gut out front, swings at left
side and landing Conrad. Then the big fella Cam Carroll,
(20:47):
who can knock it down from outside at six ' nine.
They'll do a lot of picking rolls with him. Lee
trying to get it to Carroll. Knocked away nicely. Iuice
down by Lot in transition coming back the other way,
McCoy right to the rat camp. Here's the left hand
Isaac Lee with a rebound. Now BC with a runout
three on one, pull up from three Ankle knocks it down. Boy,
he set the puppies and knocked it down in a hurry.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Buccino, I'll had three on one and he knew he
had a rebounder coming on the weak side if he
didn't make it.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
Great stop by.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Hinkle, Kean Henkle, that shooting guard starter for Joe Rodriguez.
Now down the lane, unable to finish Larthridge over Carrol.
But we have a whistle on the rebound attempts and
they're gonna get down low landing Comrade one of those
guys coming over, as you alluded to you. But Gino'm
still getting his basketball legs underneath them. Heck of a
defensive back and wide receiver for the Bulldogs and Mark
(21:38):
Cisco as they made it all the way to Ford Field.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
It's just a tough transition, but they've done it well
so far, coming from.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Football right to the hardwood, nice screen on the backside
and knocking it in BB Watkins, who's got a number change.
He's got twenty three tonight, normally listed as zero, but
they went man demand pressure defense on the inbounds of
Byron centers. It's a backscreen wide with Watkins Carroll trying
to muscle his way down the right side of the paint,
no way off the Mark rebound. Larthriz. Larthri's in transition,
(22:06):
so strong, kind of a Kobe Bryant type of body,
if you will, Very lanky and athletic at six six,
so he's a mismatch for a lot of guards to
try to go up against and got the ball knocked
away to stay with the Kruger's to our left.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Interesting Cougars have gotten a lot of transition chances, but
just not to be able to finish so far.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Casius Bond is the fifth starter for Joe Rodriguez of
the Bulldogs. Nice looking junior as you mentioned, a lot
of experience at the varsity level two years already, and
I spin by Watkins gets in the paint, nice finish,
off balance with the left hand, puts it up. It
in four to three Catholic Central and now is steel
in transition. Isaac Lee and Aaron pass back to the way.
Watkins les it for. Lott goes up, hangs in the air,
(22:47):
no rebound. Bowman kicks it back out trip will try
by Arthur's No Bowen tries to go back up. Got
a stripped from behind my hankle, and now he gets
a knocked away. Here comes Catholic Center with numbers three, two,
nice extra pass down low a lot and one nice finish,
But how about to leave that time by the point
guard Jordan McCoy.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
And again the transition created by Byron Center turnovers multiple
turnovers in their own side the half court. Can't have
that if you're Byron sare. I know they want to
get out and run, but you gotta make.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Sure Lott metals at home to convert the three point
play the old fashioned way. Seven to three. Catholic Central
off to a quick start, Isaac Lee will dribble up
full court pressure defense. He gets in with McCoy Lego's iron,
him tries to miss the left hand No up high
by the rim, grabbing the rebound that time was bowing
and before he hit the deck got it the lot.
(23:42):
Now in transition in the front court, Hank go bodied
up McCoy and they'll get key in with the foul.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
And if you're Byron, serry guys, they had a foul
trouble too. They've been a lot of contact. I like
the way the game is officiated so far, what we
call the ones that have to be called. But you
gotta be careful because if the Byrons center that bench,
you don't want to test it.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Early goth eccentral a nice wind of Romola Shores forty
four forty one because he just fell to Rockford earlier.
Kick out on the offensive rebound, wacketts Gold knock it
down Hankle Now in the long care m in transition,
Hank's skip pass over the LEAs sets his feet fires
for three, partially blocked by a lot, but then he
followed through and committed the file. Let's see if it's
(24:23):
three or two. Believe it's going to be three, and
it will be three. I knew he said it behind,
but then it was just a matter of it was
so much after the shot or nowt but a lot
will go out with his leaping ability, he will contest
a lot of shots.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
Well that's a tough one to take too, because he
actually got the block right and then as he was
coming down, I think it was more just he took
away Isaac Lee's landing space.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
It wasn't that he made a lot of contact.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Is that they tried to jump in the same area,
and of course that's not gonna work.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
And unfortunately for a lot he actually down and he
gets three free.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Ones and is an eighty five percent free throw shooter.
So you don't want to put Lee at the check.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
I mean, that's the one thing we talked about the
three point percentages. The free throw percentage is even better.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Really.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
The one that struggles at the line is Carroll. Everybody
else is up above eighty percent.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Joe Rodriguez have to be happy that and we jinxed him,
of course, broadcaster Jinks as he misses the third two
out of three throwing off the back end rebound Catholic
Central seven to five Cougars by two Watkins down the lane,
trying to shield it off. Carrol was coming over the
help side, couldn't finish a nice extra pass up and
good McCoy no Watkins for two. And I tell you what,
Catholic Center is a nice job in the pain of
(25:33):
the interior, the extra pass to get the bucket well
and again they're playing through the contact, doing a great
job of making sure that they make the good pass.
Hanko skips it out. Comrade, extra pass over the corner
Lee for three. A round and out battle for the rebound.
Nice box out by Colin Lot working against Casius Bond.
As we approached the halfway board of the opening quarter,
(25:53):
nine to five, Catholic Central over Byron Center. I mentioned
Catholic Central winning on Saturday over more Shore's forty four
to forty. Want to improve the four and two they're
two losses. You read Christian in Rockford.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
I mean that's nothing to I mean, it's kind of
like the football schedule we saw this year.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
You're playing really good teams early on.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
And it's a matter of getting used to obviously a
new coach, he's only twenty seven years old, and Chris World.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Well, the good thing for Chris obviously the assistant last year,
So there's not there's a good familiarity, and I think
they've geled early.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I think they like his style. It's more of kind
of a college spread style is Watkins three ball from
the right wing, too strong rebound Hankle eighteen points per games.
Leading score for the Bulldogs is Kean Hankels. He brings
it in the front court himself. Now BoNT, nice love
pass over to Carroll, puts it up an end. Just
got behind Bowen while Bowen tries to front him a
little bit.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
That's a great read on the pass and easy too
for Carol makes this spin move inside.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Nice pass by BoNT. Like the junior has a lot
of different aspects to his game, and he's got good
athleticism too. Larthridge now step back three over Carroll. No
good box out by the Bulldogs. Bout with the rebound.
He'll bring it up himself. They got three different guys
that can handle the rock. No look past lead on
lower the left hand, puts it up at in Cash
is spot on the delivery. There's that pace you were
(27:14):
talking about, but go Catholic Central has to get back.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Yeah, and then now they're gonna slow it up a
little bit. They're gonna try to get in the half
court like they've done the last couple of times and
slow that bulldog's attack.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
McCoy. Nice spin, Oh, just left in the dust that time. Hinkle,
as he thought he was gonna three sixty spin the
other way, went back baseline, lays it up at in.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
You thought you had help on the base line too,
but unfortunately it was.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Late coming over.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
Carol now can pull the trigger the big fellow for three.
That's just off the mark. Nice rebound combat went up
high that time, battling lot. That's a great matchup to
watch as far as on the rebounding side Hinkle left
side watched by McCoy, still man to man pressure defense
by the Cougars up and under Carroll got it knocked
away from behind.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
It'd be interesting on this one because if it's what
they're gonna be boning.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
I'm bowing okay, yep, I think that was a good
call A lot. I was coming over. I thought he
got more ball as they double team Carroll trying to
go baseline with the up and under big fella at
the free throw line. Going to Bowling Green State University
next year, coming in averaging fourteen points per game, eight rebounds.
Knocks down the first. Nice shooting big man, and now
(28:19):
you'll see Joel Rodriguez go to his bench and they
are deep too. Easton Whitchers will come in, Bob will
check out, Conrad will go out as well, and coming
in for him. They really like this East Kentwio transferring
Jayden Bowman.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Yeah, I know that again, not substituting because they have
to with foul trouble, trying to get some guys from
early looks, and you're right, Bowman.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
They are excited about him. Carol knocks it down and
we're tied at eleven apiece. Good pace to this one.
Bowen has a lot of length obviously yep. In the defense,
which is gonna help whit pass by Watkins. Nice job.
Clyde Open was bowing but then didn't go up with it,
swatting away. Here come the Bulldogs try to get it
(29:01):
back to Watkins. Good defense by BC. Tied to eleven
a piece. We approached two thirty left to go in
this opening quarter. His first quarter of study. Louns we
brought to you by sporting to you swing pass on
the baseline. Carrol extra pass to Lee now getting it back.
White Chers pulls up fifteen footers up and good, he
can give them a little scoring punch off the bench
too well.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Also, Byrons are annoying that Cathy Center wants to get
on guard the perimeter, giving the head fakes and It's
central is falling for it.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
White's another one of those football players still kind of
getting into basketball shape. Now a steel by Hinkle picked
the pocket of McCoy up ahead Whiteress two on one,
beautiful bouts pass Balling plays it up and in how
about that Whiteer's de moment, and there's that BC fast break.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
On Kathic center immediately coming back to slow this one
down two minutes ago in the first quarter, and they
realize that this pace is getting a.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Little bit unmanageable.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
McCoy has it left wing, comes off a screen from Bowling,
Bowing rolls not there. Good help defense by BC now
down the lane and swatted by Carrol that time knocks
it away from me. Moni Hinkle for Catholic Central kickout
Lee three ball no by Hinkle, bowm it up on
the offensive, grasp battling and nice job digging it out
of there was Hinkle for Catholic Central. Here comes Larthrich,
(30:16):
who's yet to get going. Say Larthrich in the front
cour picked up by Whitchers, high screen from Bowen comes
back the other way, gets the left elbow, kicks to McCoy,
now sets a screen on Hinkle and Catholic Central. Reset
with McCoy between the rings. Fifteen eleven Bulldogs over the
Cougars by four. McCoy try to pull up. Good close
out by Whitchers, now left wing. Larthrich comes off a
(30:38):
high screen from Watkins. Zay got it knocked away. Carol
with a steel just shovels it ahead to Hinkle. Hinkle
two on one leans in, no call. Good block that
time by McCoy.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
Yeah, Hinkle falling away from the basket.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Good no call there, Bob Watkins back the other way,
skip pass over. McCoy sets for three, no off the
mark battle for the rebound. Larthrid gets it, Hinkle knocked
it away, but right to Larthur. Did you put it
up in under?
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Larthur's having a tough time, but then just gets one
that falls into his lap.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
Maybe they'll get him going.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
Great action here on this one. Opening quarter final, forty
four seconds fifteen thirteen BC by two. Watkins matched up
with Lee. Now they go high top of the key
with Carol against bowing Cam. Carroll spinning, goes right to
the racket, puts it up and in how about that
move for a six nine.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
I mean there's now a lot of folks playing high
school right now. They're gonna do a whole lot with that.
On the defensive end. That's Carroll. That's why he is
highly recruited and going to Bowling Green.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
He's getting looks from a lot of MAC programs. Decided
on Bowling Green State Final twelve seconds Catholics c that's
you're gonna pull it out. Content to take the last
shot here down four seventeen thirteen. Watkins dribbles right side,
working against Lee, gets to the free throw line, pull up,
jumper away off the mark, battle for the rebound and
the horn sounds. First eight minutes in the books, and
we got a good one over the holidays Byron Center
(32:00):

Straight Line Fences Byron Center got off to a slower
start than Catholic Central, but then the Bulldogs got the
(33:04):
break going and buck Gino. After eight minutes of play,
they lead it by four seventeen to thirteen.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
Well we talked about Catholic Central wantings you try to
dictate the page of this game. Of course, just like
in football, I say something, everybody does the opposite.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
But that's what they did.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
They get in transition, but then Byron Center started to
gain that upper hand. They were able to get it
on transition, get a couple of easy buckets, and then
Catholic Central and coach Burl said, all right, you guys,
solow this down in the last half the quarter. They
were able to do that and actually took the steam
a little bit out of Byron Center's running game.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Catholic Central will start with the basketball. They throw it
in the back court. Demani Hinkle back to McCoy. Now
Guardy McCoy checking in for the first time to I
countered Jenks, junior guard from Byron Center. McCoy a little
hesitation dribble, gets behind him and puts it up and
in with a scoop shot up. Another nice job by McCoy.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
And we had in Conrad who kind of caught in
the middle there, didn't know if he was going to
have to take the pass.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
Or the shot.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Janks being challenged out top by McCoy's right on him.
Now Here comes a double team with Larthrig Janks needed
some help, gets it bought out top to Bowman. Bowman
dribbles over the right side. Another good ball handler in
the lane goes up, thought he got hit. No call
play on rebound cleared out of there by Ty Moody.
Our first look at the big man Moody for Catholic
(34:23):
Central off the bench.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Well, you can see the Bulldogs.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
McCoy realizing that it's not Hankle handling the ball, coming
up and pressuring the backup.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Watkins penetration skip past just too strong and into the
Bulldog's bench looking for McCoy on the opposite wing.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
McCoy knows he should have had that one. That's like,
we're gonna go back to football because we.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Know that's what I know the best.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
That's like a wide receiver. They throw the slam pattern
and goes right through his hands. He knows McCoy he's
got to come up with that one turn over instead.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Speaking of football, between Ty Moody and Pp Watkins got
like a linebacker to Tiger.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
When I have an Oklahoma dol at the center court
at halftime, I'm.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Telling you time Moo he has put together and he's
got to be about what six ' four.
Speaker 17 (35:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
Then you got Bowman on the block, wants to spend
baseline working nice job by Hinkle and knocking away. Here
comes Larthrich in transition, get to the McCoy. Back to Larthrich, right,
Wang had Hinkle, Mowman, Tearland the cutter.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
He saw Boben there trying to back down on the
fence and ran right into him. There's a fowl that
he's been looking for.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Now Bowman with a nice steal that time on Larthur
to try to dribble penetrate in the lane, and then
Bowman gets knocked down. Thus the whistle, Bowman feels he's
like I thought football was over.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
I'm getting banged around out here.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
He goes, Remember I'm not one of the football that
is the Byron seven. I just played basketball substitution's wholesale
for Joe Rodriguez, Isaac Lee back in, Hinkle back in
along with Cam Carroll.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
Just a couple of good minutes. Did the quarter get
down a little bit more extra breathing room. And I
like it for your depth too. When you're playing that
up tempo style, right, guys gonna get tired. You gotta
get another wave and then he can't be playing. Guy
is thirty two minutes every game. You gotta have the
bench to at least support get you some minutes. Carroll
wants it on the right block.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
BoNT doesn't get it to him, dribbles and skips opposite
Isaac Lee. Now hank has at left wing, knocked away
momentarily by Watkins. King gets it back approaching six minutes
left to going second quarter, cash his bond drible penetration,
kickout to Hankle, good luck, No off the front of
the rim, rebound battle for Larker's had it with stripped.
They're gonna say, cam Carroll handing the cookie jar, He'll
(36:28):
pick up the foul Cathic Central Basketball seventeen fifteen BC
by two. Stay with us at halftime for the whole
Jefson Physical Therapy Halftime Show scores in more from all
the Bowl games today and this evening, plus Monday night
football coming up. Green Bay and New Orleans all coming
(36:51):
up with their own Joe ern in studio at the break,
kick out left side, McCoy triple trying No. Isaac Lee
runs the rebound down. I would a head to Bond
Bot down the lane. Oh shot blocked by McCoy wow,
and he kept it in bounced run down by Bowen.
Here comes Catholic central back Watkins, wheeling and dealing. Can't
free himself from Bob Bowen wants the three after the
(37:13):
nice recovery, can't knock it down from the top of
the key rebound BC.
Speaker 5 (37:16):
Coach Pearl didn't like that offensive set, thought they had
a little bit more out of it.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Isaac Lee got it blocked by Larthridge. Now Cam Carroll
down low nicely for Bowman, goes up strong between two defenders.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
And Jaydon Bowman puts it up and end. It's a
great move there at Carroll. Good passing on the interior too.
That's why you see the soft hands. Didn't just try
to go straight up with it.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Watkins deep three. That was a College three. No good
close up by Isaac Lee, Camp Carroll the rebound.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
You're just trying to get your check book from kids
food basket fatter. They're just trying three is left and
right and getting Coach Pearl a little frustrated by that.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Short jumper on the baseline, bounced on the rim twice
and pops out for Bowman.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
You know he calls Dai Larther drove and he's like,
all right, let's let's not do that anymore unless they're
Unless we're really sure.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Hands off to mccooy. Now set up the offense for
the Cooglers. Like you said, I think the slower tempo
is certainly gonna favor them. They don't want to run
with Byron Center. That's gonna be a long.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
They don't want to get in a three point shooting
contest with Byron Center. Either.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Larthridge top of the key buries it over Carrol. That's
his game. Nice job is setting his feet and knocking
it down Big three nineteen eighteen. Bot now on the drive,
got it knocked away as he went in the paint.
But a whistle, I gotta say on the floor is
Warthridge coming off?
Speaker 4 (38:32):
That's what If you're gonna get a three point shot
for Catholic Central Bread, that's what you gotta do.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
It's gotta come off the high screen. Get that with
the movement before.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
The defense switching instead of just trying to bombit, can
kick it out after, you know, from down load, vomb
it from deep.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
That's not their game.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
I like that set and of course, coach Pearl, I
really impressed with this young coach so far. Brett calls
day over says, hey, this is what I want to run.
Speaker 5 (38:55):
Guess what.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
Yeah, they run it and they get three. Now we've
got the shoe time. I'm out here, Butcoy's gonna here's.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
The good industry of Catholic Central and you're listening to
this broadcast is they've been kind of herky jerky here
since the start of the second quarter. But it's a
one point game.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Well, the other thing you gotta be happy about, Brett,
there's only one seater that's Jack Bows.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
They're a young team and a young coach, still trying
to learn each other.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
And the game Watkins matched up with Hankle off the top.
Now it's Isaac Lee left side, bounced past his baseline
to Carrol. Carroll faces up, nowhere to go, Oh, beautiful
pass down low. Hankle stuck by the defense, couldn't finish
so knocked out of there.
Speaker 5 (39:32):
By bowing tough for Hankle. That's a great feed by Carroll.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
And now it's a it's not a good foul by
Hankle there, that's just one you don't want to take
that's his second.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
He doesn't like it, but he has hands on him.
A little bit of a shove that time is Watkins
wisely just kind of stopped right and forced the content.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
That's the thing is he feel feels the hands. Well,
if you stop, he's not gonna stop and right to
get the easy fouling. So Hanko now gonna have to
go to the bench with two fouls because Coach Rodriguez
doesn't want to get his third this early in the
second quarter.
Speaker 5 (40:01):
So it's gonna be a little bit different look from
Byron center now and they're.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Going to that second edit because Carrol is out Kinkle
out with the two fouls, so Whitcher's back in along
with Conrad. They lobbing into Bowen working against Bowman. There's
the name battle larth Ridge fadeaway Jumper from twelve. No
Bowman had the rebound then lost it. Cc gets it
back well.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
Now Bowen playing more of that five position instead of
the flour Once Carrol goes out, so has to do
some battle with Bowen underneath.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
McCoy against Whitchers dribbles right side gets the high screen
from lot Now the spin he's got Whitcher's on it.
But they don't go to him. Larthridch bounce baseline, hangs
in the air and just had a mismatch and elevated over.
Conrad puts it up and in. That's back to back buckets,
big ones for Zay.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
Larthrich Well now Byron center with the second team and
again to saw it now a little bit, try.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
To work for a good shot. BoNT left hand dribble, strong,
hangs in the air and the paint No, but was fouled.
Who's it gonna be? Watkins are a lot there was contact.
But I tell you what, Cash just Bond's not afraid
to go in there and attack with the dribble that time,
strong left handed move.
Speaker 4 (41:08):
Yeah, that's a tough drive there, and because you know
one of the two things is gonna happen, You're gonna
make it and or you're gonna get a lot of contact.
So great job there by a bot knowing he's gonna
get there and takes the shot.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
He's going hold school headband for you. Two bucks. You
know Cash's BoNT I like that look now. Substitutions for
Catholic central to three to zero five Mark left to
go first half in for the first time to night
Peter app number two along with a snatty second free
throw good by BoNT So. He hits him both twenty
(41:41):
one to twenty. BC regains the lead. But it's been
a back and forth game, a good one here in
the first half. Three minutes left to go in the
first Watkins leaves it for bowing way out top. Now
here's app Look at a drible drive left hand cut
off by Whiter's and I switched by bowman. Look at
bowman working the feet. They've got a mismatch down low
with bowen. Bowman comes and helps, So kicks it back
(42:03):
out and now Isaac Lee with a quick hands breakout
back the other way. Isaac Lee lays it.
Speaker 5 (42:08):
Up and in Well, it's a great job there by defense.
Speaker 4 (42:11):
Lee knowing that they don't have it inside, they try
to go back out top and reaches that, but Lee
jumps the pass.
Speaker 5 (42:17):
He goes in for the tip slam.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
We saw it on the great Armba so quick with
his feets, got quick hands there just translates well over
to the battle.
Speaker 4 (42:26):
Mean, that's like a defensive bag jumping around. He sees
it coming and able to steal the ball and get
the easy too.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
Bowing way out front looking for help. This is left
Wayne Watkins. Watkins comes off a high screen. Now they
got Isaac Lee against the taller bowing down low, go
to him and Conrad comes over and helps with the block.
Here comes White just on the breakout. White just down
the laye. Lots of contact, offensive foul. Yeah, Easton Whiers
look like a running back just running down the lane
that time. Nice job by Catholic Central joined.
Speaker 5 (42:55):
The jar and he's I think as Peter app that
drew the charge.
Speaker 4 (42:58):
I mean he Wayer's head and he thought Coach Cisco
is over there, tell him to run off tackle because
he just did put his head down and buried the defender.
Speaker 5 (43:08):
And that's a tough one there because you know it's
gonna hurt.
Speaker 4 (43:10):
But that's a good job by the Catholic Central defender
to take the charge and get the ball back.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
That was a lot of contact. McCoy now shot blocked
by Lee. Oh they're gonna get They're gonna be a
bowman for the region. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (43:21):
Lee came up and I was like, way, I thought
they were gonna get Lee at first. But that is
on bowman on the region there and little too oppressive
on the hedge, but I like it. He was in
good position. Well, and that's what they're trying to do.
They right to get out and run right. Well, if
you get the ball out top, it's gonna be much
easier to run.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Jordan McCoy at the free throw line knocks down the
first second one up coming twenty three to twenty one
ball game one nine left to go, first half. Stay
with us again host Jefson, Physical Therapy, halftime show scores
and more coming up with their own Joe Errant plus action.
Earlier in the day, Here at cornerstone short on the
second rebound, Isaac Lee. Isaac Lee looks behind him, making
(44:01):
sure McCoy doesn't steak from behind him. Cash just bond
deep three Wow, nothing but nylon. He was out of
the Golden Eagle.
Speaker 5 (44:08):
Is that one hundred bucks to kick the basket because
he's that far? Wow?
Speaker 2 (44:12):
I mean he was a good ten feet beyond the
owd and that got zero rim. I mean that was
pure By the way, you're right, rack up the total
of fifty more dollars to Kids Food Basket with our
Baskets for Kids program could have see of LMCU. Boy,
it's getting physical and Bowen just got pushed that time
and now call by the official.
Speaker 4 (44:30):
Well, and they're getting aggressive up top, trying to create
those turnovers and not winning. Catholic Central get into their
set and that's where you see now a little bit
of the chest smash. We talk about it all the
time during football season. Doesn't stop here on the hardwood.
Georgio Rodriguez knows, Hey, they want to slow it down. Well,
how do we prevent them from doing that? Well, get
out top and guard them from the half court line.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
In you know what I love about Cash just BoNT
only a junior, two year varsity player already as bowing
at the line, Big South baw knocks down the first
I mean, he's just one of those guys who fills
up the staf. Did you see his numbers? Ten points
per game, five rebounds, three assists. He does it all
coming in and he's a good defender.
Speaker 5 (45:06):
Yeah, I mean that's what you need.
Speaker 4 (45:07):
He's kind of the glue guy, right, he does everything well,
jack of all trades, and you know you can count on.
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Second one on the way too strong by the big
fellow rebound run down by Easton Whichers.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
I gotta have those if you're Catholic Central, when you're
getting free points, you gotta have them, and so fire
Byron Center has been doing.
Speaker 5 (45:25):
It, not Catholic Central.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Final seventy seconds here the first half, Isaac Lee dribbling
out front. McCoy gave him a little space, swings right
side Conrad. Conrad looking to go baseline, strong move, goes up,
shot blocked. That was Larthritz coming over. Now McCoy on
the breakout reaching foul gonna be going against Byron Center.
I think it's Easton Whitchers.
Speaker 4 (45:44):
Yeah, and again feeling the contact and there's a lot
of contact that's going on. But the thing that you
have to be aware of is if they're out ahead
of you, if you're hitting them from the from the back,
they're going to call the foul. If they're get their
seat feet center, you're lead shoulder with him, they might
be able to go with it. But all the Byron
Center files have come when they've been chasing the offensive
(46:06):
player from behind.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
Bonus on as McCoy can't get the first he's struggled
from the free field line tonight.
Speaker 4 (46:12):
I mean, and again it's a four point game. These
things are crucial. They've missed three the last three trips
down the.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Floor, Cam Carroll coming in landing. Conrad will sit down
for Joe Rodriguez second one, up coming Jordan McCoy and
other thor those juniors you talked about, buck Gino said,
junior Leaden starting five except for Bowen. Second one. Good,
So he splits the here again, one possession game twenty
six to twenty three BC. As we go under a
minute left to go here first half. Good crowd on
(46:40):
hand of mull arena. Now they're gonna get a hand
check him, but we've always been doing that.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
I mean McCoy had his hand on, yeah, from back here,
and then he just kind of went with him. And
again it's one of those things where if you don't
have the ball, it's okay. But Isaac Lee, I mean,
you can't hand check a guy for twenty feet and
I think they're gonna blow.
Speaker 5 (46:56):
The whistles right.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
Bowman on the m bounds far sideline to Lee, way
out near the half court line. Now top of the key,
feed to Carrol, he'll square up working against Bowen, leaves
it for Bowman. Bowman dribbles down the right side of
the lane. Nice clear out my Carrol puts it up
an end, big man to big man working the high low.
Speaker 5 (47:14):
That's a great and see the basketball sends that.
Speaker 4 (47:16):
Carrol there sees Bowman on the drive, knows he's not
going to get the ball, does the next best thing
and just walls off the defender.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
Hand off to McCoy from Watkins Catholic Central. We'll reset
here and I think they'll be content to take the
final shot. They're only down five at the worst unless
they get to steal here by Byron Center. Watkins swings
it around left side. McCoy now high screen coming from
InKo just checked in during the last stoppage. So a
tinkle and Bowen down low for c C. McCoy crossed over,
(47:46):
spins in the lane. Good defense by White. Just oh
McCoy got the bounce of the finish to go quick
outlet Bonn got a hurt. I don't think he got
it off and he didn't. That'll be the way the
first half ends, and we got a good one brewing
here at the CU High School. Loops olidate it after
one half of play our score Byron Center twenty eight,
Grand Rapids Catholic Central twenty five will take a break

and come back with more of the whole steps and
physical therapy. Halftime show with our own Joe Aaron after

(57:22):
for our first half scoring summary. It's brought to you
by MKD Funeral Homes.
Speaker 4 (57:26):
Buck Byron Center leading twenty eighth to twenty five at halftime.
Leading scorers for the Bulldogs Isaac Lee and cam and
Carroll with six and Bond with five. Catholic Central Cougar
is led by Jordan McCoy and Za Lanthage both with
seven and then also Breevan Watkins with six.
Speaker 5 (57:45):
So that is our scoring summary for the first half
of this game.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
And Buck, you look at it, I thought you were
spot on. And we'll see if that is part of
the adjustments in the second half with Catholic Central. Let's
be more half court delivered offensively Byron Center. Well, they
can kind of do both, but they like to get
out in transition right into my keys in the second half.
For Catholic Central, all I want for Christmas is two
stop shooting threes. If you're Chris Pearls said, guys, we
(58:11):
cannot try to bomb from outside with these guys. All
want for Christmas is to two pointers, get the ball inside,
work the ball, and then for battle for battle, kick
up said Byrons Center.
Speaker 5 (58:21):
Run run, Rudolph. They want to get out and they
want to run the floor, and that's what they're going
to try to do in the second half.
Speaker 2 (58:26):
But they were really impressed at the end of the
first quarter early in that second quarter to kind of
build a lead. But Catholic Central right there, Bulldogs start
with the basketball moving right to left. In the radio
dial up twenty eight twenty five, Lee clapping for the basketball.
As you hear kicks in the corner to ankle, we'll
reset your sporting to you. Starting laps of the second half.
Ankle up an under two strong comrade on the offensive lass, No,
a little bit off balance. Rebound cleared by Bowling. Yeah,
(58:48):
it didn't set his feet there. It could have probably
gone up stronger and maybe drawn the foul. Now a
little give and go. Nice job, bon What a block
by Isaac Lee. He's got some ups after the nice
feed by one Hots to set up ball.
Speaker 4 (59:01):
And Bowen thought he had kneasy duce and then Lee
coming on the back side just with the swat.
Speaker 2 (59:06):
I tell you what, he is gonna make some football
coach happy. I think a steal is Isaac Lee, even
at the D one level, if he goes to like
a max school bought fakes the three down the lane,
can't finish the left hand. Good defense by larth rates.
Now bodies hit the deck and I think they're gonna
get Conrad.
Speaker 4 (59:23):
Well, that's a that's a break if you're I mean,
it's not a break, but it's it's not Carol, you know,
and we want to be careful if you're guys in
final trouble for Byron Center Hinkle ahead two in the
first half, and Carol, now.
Speaker 5 (59:36):
I believe that's his second.
Speaker 2 (59:39):
It would have been a second first half scoring. Somebody
brought to you by m KD Funeral Homes every story,
every moment, every day, with now eight locations to serve you.
MKD Funeral Home dot Com. Oh nice, feed Watkins on
the backside. Lot thought he got boughted up. No call,
missed the layup three bound, Carol.
Speaker 5 (59:56):
Well they've let some of the contacts go.
Speaker 2 (59:58):
Carol pull up from three top of the key, left
it short. Bot runs down the long rebound. Now he
won't hesitate fires, and he's like a triple He's like those.
Speaker 5 (01:00:06):
Kids neat food. Fifty bucks. Here it comes, man.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
He can shoot it from deep, not quite as deep
as the last one. It still counts the same.
Speaker 5 (01:00:15):
Well, good thing. We're not going a bucket foot because
Bot would break the bank.
Speaker 2 (01:00:20):
Well, they've got a tough uh measuring stick. The ladies
knocked down sixteen combined on Friday night. Eight hundred dollars
donated from LMSU to Kids Food basket. But we're pretty
good on pace here with this one on the boys side,
thirty one to twenty five at the last triple by
Bond lead his six. As we approached six minutes left
to go into third quarter, Jordan McCoy, your point got
(01:00:40):
our top larth Ridge, Now I'm gonna call larth Ridge.
Conrad just kind of got too close to Largmerts didn't
like it, gave him little elbow and knocked him down.
It's fishing right on top of that one.
Speaker 4 (01:00:50):
Well, and Coach Pearl's like, hey, you gotta be smart
about that, Like, if you're gonna do that, you can't
make it obvious to everybody in the gym.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Braylan Watkins a lot and Jack Bowen round at your
starting five, same original starting five for Chris Pearl and
Catholic central comrade good looking at a three. Lets it
fly no off the heal rebound grab by Larthridge, push
up ahead to Watkins flying on the left side. Watkins
bodied up by bot Ball, knocked out of bounds. It'll
stay with c c to our rights.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
A good good defense there by boting once we talked
about it earlier.
Speaker 5 (01:01:23):
Brett just does everything well.
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
Scores distributes rebounds and that time playing good defense knocking
it away.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
It'll be McCoy to trigger the inbounds, aren't he throwing
basket gets to Larthridge in the corner up top to
bowing back to Larthridge. Now skip right side to Watkins
man a man pressure defense by BC Conrad on him,
Carol against Larthridge on bowing Bowe wants to back him
down this size event it spins to his left hand. No,
now the left handed hook upping good.
Speaker 4 (01:01:53):
We had that looked the first time, didn't like it,
and then got all the way around the world and said,
well this is all I'm gonna get. Toss up the
hook by the way. Joe Rodriguez and Byron centers. Carol
pulls up from sixteen and the future Falcon knocks.
Speaker 5 (01:02:06):
It down mid range for the Big Fella Bulldogs.
Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
Going with their same starting lineup. Conrad, Hankle, Carol, Lee
and Bot roun him out the top five for Joe
Rodriguez twenty seven to thirty three. It's now larthridche good
looking at three that one flat and short battle for
the rebound and Bot comes up with it, wanting to
push to Hankle, hankle crossed the timeline, look into his
right behind the back, dribble to free himself, kick out
(01:02:31):
to Lee for three No, off the back iron rebound
Larthridge up and down we go. Larthi's got numbers. Three
on two, BOMs past to Watkins. Lots of contact, yes,
and one hop about that hanging in the air. One
to finish off the window, Bye Babe Watkins and by just.
Speaker 4 (01:02:46):
Really no, man's laying there three on one and a
great pass across gets him to cross his feet and
lose his hips and Watkins drives it in and draws
the contact for the end.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
One. That was some major content too. It shows you
how strong BB Watkins is. Told you he looks kind
of like a linebacker. I mean he didn't even move
no south ball can't convert the three point play though,
misses the free throw rebound Bond.
Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
Got and that's kaffic sounds right now. Missing a lot
of free throws in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Swing passed over to Conrad, right side, dump downloaded Carroll,
draw some traffic and then nice job, good patience by
the big man. Gathered his feet, went up in the
left hand and just elevated overever Larthrich back the other way,
can't handle the pass, but runs it down, gets it
back in the left corner picked up by Conrad. Boy,
there's a moving screen there, but no call it boone
at least a lot of contact. I guess they're gonna
called against Conrad's right oh my, and all block against
(01:03:43):
Conrad who went down. I think the official thought was
more of a flop that time, trying to defend Bothe.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
Well, the thing with Conrad really never had his feet
set behind Bowing and that's you know, Coach Rodriguez isn't
gonna like it, But I think for Conrad that's what
they're looking at is his feet really never were in
one position and as Bone is backing him down right,
Bowen's trying to get to the basket and gets a
lot of contact.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
If it was gonna be anything other than that, it
probably been a no call.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
I like this move by Joe Rodvegez tooud. You see
what he did with a foul obviously yep, to protect
foul trouble, but he went with a bigger lineup and
now has Bowman who's a better matchup on larth Rage.
And then Carol can switch you over on the bigger Bowen. Yep,
Watkins now cold close out defensively by.
Speaker 4 (01:04:24):
Lee, and you can see the length and answer to
the defense right now defending a good twenty five twenty
six feet away from the basket.
Speaker 5 (01:04:30):
Kathy Sumpster not able to get down.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Low, but Bowen goes probably six six sixty seven and
Carrol could match up there. Good help by Carol Oh
knocked it away from Watkins. Here comes Hankle on the
breakout down the right side for BC step through Euro
step leaves it for Lee opposite Now Lee bounce pass
out to BoNT Bakes the three oh Bot might have
got away the travel there skips it to Lee before
he did. Carol all back door cut. Lee goes up. Yes,
(01:04:56):
nice job of elevating and put it up and in
over Colin lone. Good look by Carrol, you're right he's
a good passing big man.
Speaker 4 (01:05:05):
Well, it does a great job of He knows the
defense is gonna come towards him and knows where the
open areas of the floor are at that time.
Speaker 5 (01:05:11):
A great back door feed the league.
Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
Three minute and ticking left he go on the third
quarter of Leartharich comes off of high screen pulls the trigger.
No off the front rim rebound, big fella Cam Carroll.
Speaker 4 (01:05:23):
And they're gonna get a three. That's the shot they want.
Larthree just got an act those down.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
Yeah, came out of the half court, said Bot deep three,
No off the front rim. Look at Bowman come flying in,
goes back up. Nobody's fouled from behind by Colin Lott.
Good work by the e K transfer Jaydon Bowman for BC.
Relentless that time, and just a frustration file, I think
by Colin Lott because he got beat on the offensive rebound.
Speaker 5 (01:05:48):
Bowman is again the heavy contact.
Speaker 4 (01:05:50):
You can see holding his hip a little bit there,
but you're right, a lot just comes over the top
and knows that's the only shot he's gonna have of
stopping him.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
What a luxury when and you see this a lot
of signs like a lock for the South Christian You
could actually get bigger with guys coming off the bench.
And that's what happens with Bowman when he comes in
for Conrade.
Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
Well and it's completely changed the dynamic for Catholic Central. Offensively,
we know they want to get into a half court set,
but when they can't get it underneath the free throw line.
It's a real tough gig to run that, and so
far they haven't been able to solve the Byrons there defense.
Speaker 5 (01:06:24):
Once Bowman came in and added the extra length on
the wing.
Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
I want to bring up a point. You touched on
Buck after this second free throw as Bowman missed the
second I was just about to say the difference Byron
Center making their free throws Catholic Central not when you
look at just a nine point game. He thought about
it and then you We didn't have to say it.
You just thought about it. Boy. They've made a lot
of free throw and they miss it. Thirty eight, twenty nine.
Look at that Bowman defending up top under two and
(01:06:49):
a half. Oh a throwaway by McCoy stepping steel by Lee.
He's got number three, had two hands at the bot
left side and Bot goes up at his foul. It's
gonna be Larthridge files starting to mount for Catholic Central.
Good job of the breakout by PC. This third quarter
being brought to you by Kids' Food Basket are official
nonprofit for the LMCU High School Basketball.
Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
Game of the Week and the largest lead I believe
of the game for Byron Center at nine right now,
Kathleic Sanrel has been able to keep it close up
until the last couple of possessions, but a couple of
empty ones and now the fouls starting. Like you said
to Mount giving Byron Center a good free throw shooting team,
more opportunities at the stripe, and that's not something that
you want to do.
Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
Bond hit the first and before we get the second,
it will be a thirty second time out. We'll keep
it right here and remind you that LMCU is helping
Kids' Food Basket across West Michigan by generously donating fifty
dollars the kids Food Basket for every made free during
our LMCU High School basketball Game of the Week broadcast
to nourish local kids to reach their full potential. Now
(01:07:49):
we don't have a final count yet, still got the
fourth quarter to be played, but I'm saying we're probably
approaching double digits made. Remember it's combined for both teams.
We had six team on Friday night. By the way,
big win for Rockford who won again against East Grand
Rapids earlier today, but they beat Catholic Central. I thought
a pretty good Catholic Central team seventy three forty seven,
(01:08:12):
led by this basketball candidate and a wide pitch who
had a lot of those threes, by the way, but
she had twenty five that night.
Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
Yeah, and being an East Grand rapid squad that kind
of in a transition year, and they've changed some things
around the schedule.
Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
So originally as to beg Rockford and was Catholic, but
they change it.
Speaker 4 (01:08:28):
And for Rockford, you know, a couple of big wins
here at the showcase, but maybe the Rams one of
the best teams obviously in the state, regardless of the class.
So it doesn't matter who they're bringing in here, it's
gonna be a rough ride for that team.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
Tell you what, Rockfords loaded both sides, the Boys winning
earlier before this game over Romona Shores sixty nine forty eight.
Really took it to the Sailors in the second half and.
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
The short the Sailors not you know, they're a good
competitive team, and Rockford just took it to him.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Second free field by the way, after the timeout, good
Bye Bond. So it's an eleven point events, like Buck mentioned,
the biggest of the night so far for Byron Center
forty twenty nine. Watchins left wing with Carol on him
deciding whether he wants to drive or not.
Speaker 5 (01:09:09):
So look at you.
Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
I am and Carrol all the way out ToIP bowing
down load a hankle, nice finish gathered himself. But MANI
ankle for Catholic Central and that's what they need to
do with Carrol out of the middle. D three hits.
Another one that was in the Byron Center student section.
Oh Man now with steel dribbled off his foot. Here
comes bomb back the other way. Nice bounced past ahead
(01:09:31):
to Bowman goes up. Oh challenge at the top by Watchets.
But they're gonna say got a piece of the arm.
Speaker 4 (01:09:36):
Yeah, it looked like he got the ball first and
then after that got the arm. That's a tough one.
But the turnover by Catholic Central got a little bit
too quick trying to get that offense set up. Not
a great possession there, dribbled off the foot and then
they go right down the floor and pick up another foul.
Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
Tommy Chander Noah, by the way, the junior for Catholic
Centralist first appearance here in the all game in for
the Cougars, Bowman had the free throw line kind of
as a side spin as it goes up there, and
that one did rattle to his favor and drop. As
Conrad comes back in the game, Kurl will sit down.
Second one coming up for Jayden and a good bowman
(01:10:19):
coming off the bench.
Speaker 5 (01:10:21):
You know, you look, he's not gonna be shooting a
ton of free throws.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
There. I think his role's even gonna get bigger as
he gets more familiar with his team. That's just it, right.
Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
He said he's a transfer, so it's gotta get familiar
with everybody. And boy, what a weapon to bring right
off the bench as you're six man, he's.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Out top now a little half court trapped by bco
shot block from behind Mott. But they're to gather it
up and put it back up and save the day
for Capoint Central was Jack bow that's a.
Speaker 4 (01:10:46):
Big bucket too, because they were looking at going down
more than fifteen points going into the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
Bow And doesn't get that pick.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
Me up Bowman got both free throws, by the way
on the other end for Byron Center. So it's forty
five thirty three after that at basket by Bowen Bot
now coming off the screen against Jander Noah wheeling and
dealing gets the right elbow. No look past to Conrad
down low in traffic, leaves him for Bowman lost it
right to hink Oh, he can't finish. Bowman on the
offense in glass can't corral it. And now body's hitting
(01:11:15):
the deck. Where have a jump ball situation? Possessionarro are
gonna go with the Cougars.
Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
Well, Conrie had having a little bit of a rough
game offensively, just struggling there. But Man just great passing,
but I think maybe one too many and three passes
that traveled four feet in the paint, and go try
to Regainsich. Somebody's gotta go up and joot the ball,
and instead it ends up with the turnover. But again
up by twelve there Byron center playing great defense in.
Speaker 5 (01:11:40):
This quarter and they've really opened it up.
Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
Final thirty seconds up my a dozen now forty five
thirty three when Kins dribbles to the front court and
they go small here for this last possession, Carol comes out,
Bowman off a switch garden Watkins. Now, let's see if
Braylin tries to take him high screen by Hinkel, nothing there,
Larthrich back in to Watkins coming over flying to Bowman
(01:12:02):
just took his head off that time.
Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
Yeah, got a little aggressive trying to come for the
block and got everything but the ball, unfortunately hopefully Watkins.
Yeah Watkins, Okay, Yeah he got he got hit pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
BB Watkins to the charity stride for a couple nine
point four seconds.
Speaker 4 (01:12:22):
Left and Bowman that's his responsibility down Will is really
the five in this set. So he gets caught a
little bit out of position and comes over, tries the
makeup for it, commits the foul first free throw.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
Good job by BB to shake it off. By the way,
coming up in the fourth quarter, fans set to redials.
Now we've got a wing doozy fan of the game
could score twenty five dollars gift guard perfect for the
Bowl season. Six one, six, four five four thirty seven
seventy six is that number. I'll give you the cue
to call once we get into the fourth. But six one, six,
four five, fourth thirty seven seventy six. Watkins missed the
second Isaac Lee quickly down final few seconds, Spins lost
(01:12:56):
a handle and now Janda Noa's gotta let him fly
for out. Had a good looking trajectory on it, but
just a little bit short. And that's the way the
third quarter will land so Byron Center extends there lead
out from halftime to eleven after three forty five thirty
four were Catholic Central. We'll come back with the final
eight minutes from maul Arena after this on ninety six
(01:13:18):
to one. The game.

know he's in the holiday spirit. Hope you are as well.
From all of us to all of you, Happy holidays,
Be safe out there and all buck Gino, you've had
this Christmas theme? What does buck Gino want for Christmas? Boy?
I mean do we have enough time?
Speaker 26 (01:14:08):
Uh?
Speaker 18 (01:14:08):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
Really?
Speaker 5 (01:14:09):
I mean truth?
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Beside some hockey victories.
Speaker 4 (01:14:11):
Yeah, I would, I would, I would really like well,
if not not only for them, but also the Red Wings, Yes,
are are struggling and they could use some some holidays year.
Uh boy, it's been a rough go for the Red
Wings lately, and the Griffin's doing well. But boy, the
red Wings are struggling. But no, really, what I want
(01:14:32):
for everybody not just be for everybody for Christmas. Just
have a great time with your family and enjoy the
time and really just don't take it for granted. It's
that time of year where you know, people get together
and just cherish those moments.
Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Here we go, final eight minutes in this one, Cash
is Moottan BC will start with the basketball again movie
right to left and radio. Now, Hankle's been kind of
quiet after that good opening quarter. I remember easing the
leading scorer, coming to eighteen points per game, but other
guys have stepped up. That's of the greatness of this
Byron Center team is the depth, with a guy like
a Cash's bond who is well over her scoring average
(01:15:08):
at ten points per game coming in. Conrad dribbles down
the lane, hangs in the left hand, camp finish in traffic.
Larthin's with the rebound. Now White's a game with the
reach in foul. Speaking of hockey, maybe you want some
GLI Hockey tickets for Christmas, great Christmas gift for the
hockey fan in your family, and you can get them
vandaned Lorena dot com. I mean, look at the team's
(01:15:29):
number one Michigan State, number six Western Michigan in the
field this year Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan proud to
be the media sponsor over it once again is ninety
six to one. The game happens to twenty ninth and
thirtieth next Sunday and Monday at Vanandelreta gets your tickets
Bandalerena dot Com. As a shot by Watkins trickled around
(01:15:49):
and off the rim, battle for the rebound, last touched
by the Cougars. Full core pressure. Now for GRCC Chris Pearl.
They got to force some journalvers try to get some
easy baskets.
Speaker 4 (01:16:00):
Well, they gotta be careful though, because they get the
pressing out there with the guys that can pass the
ball like Carroll doesn't take much and all of a
sudden there's an easy backdoor chance.
Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
They camp Carroll a couple of three sixty spins because
the players he's wanted to hand off to him and
guarded so well. Now dumps off to Hankle. On Hankle
gets a little tear drop on the baseline from six feet.
Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
Well, he kind of just like a walking screen because
he was able to walk the ball dribbling, and.
Speaker 5 (01:16:25):
All of a sudden he's on the basement and finds Hinkle.
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
Now knock away from behind Hankle and Conrad comes up
with the steel. Here comes BC on the attack again.
Biggest lead of the night right now, forty seven thirty four.
Danger time for GRCC.
Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
Well, they've got to now, they got to press a
little bit. They're guarding much farther out top than they
have been fought.
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
With a little half book that went way too strong
rebound Hinkle, and I think Coach Rodriguez is like, where
did that come from?
Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
The reaction by Coach Rodriguez was pressed.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
He just waiting.
Speaker 5 (01:16:55):
He just kind of shrugs like, I don't know what
that is.
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
Down fall left handed half hook, no good by bowing boy.
That was a good look for CC though. Just couldn't
buy the bucket. Yeah, and that's kind of been the
theme all night for CC. Three throws haven't been falling,
and even the easy ones for them gotta convert when
you're playing a good team like Byron Center. Gotta put
pressure on them. They just have them be able to
do it tonight. Oh, nice ball movement to Hankle in
(01:17:19):
the corner for three, right in front of the bench,
and the Bulldogs barking. They love that one. That's classic
BC basketball, right. The tough one on the wing too,
I mean right in the corner, just buries it. We'll
take our correct caller here at the minutes, Oh Larthridge
went up, lots of contact, got it stripped. Here comes
bond BoNT in transition four on free to call the
(01:17:41):
alley slam. That might be your t X Family Stores
highlight of the game. Pretty basketball there. That's gonna force
a CC time out.
Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
If it's not in the play of the game, I
don't know what's going to be because they always still
got five minutes left.
Speaker 5 (01:17:56):
I mean, unless knocks one down from fifty feet out.
I mean, I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:18:01):
Carol just going up there, a beautiful lob to Carol
in full play and then he just almost brings the
hoop down.
Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
Wow, what a great play, and that leads us to
a full time out. But here's what we're gonna do.
We'll keep it right here and we'll do our wing
goosey fan of the game. So caller six right now
to Joe Erin back in the studios standing by at
six one six four five four thirty seven seventy six. Now,
if you wonder the football season, you're eligible. He only
wins once per season. So Steve Carlson the other night's
(01:18:32):
from Grand Rapids was our winner on Friday night. He
can't win the rest of the basketball season. But caller
six six one six, four five four thirty seven seventy
six will announce the winner. And where you're listening from
tonight's coming up in our postgame show, brought to you
by Discount Door. But good luck caller six again, six
one six, four five four thirty seven seventy six. Well
(01:18:52):
buck Gino. Agressive runout here in the third quarter and
early in the fourth for Byron Center, showing why they
are one of the top teams in the area.
Speaker 4 (01:19:02):
Well in the third quarter, able to defensively stifle the
Catholic central offense when Bowman came in.
Speaker 5 (01:19:08):
Really, I mean they'd gotten out to a good lead.
They were only up at three at the break, but
then they pushed it to eleven.
Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
They handed up to twelve or thirteen at sometimes, but
Canthic Central was able to fight it down a couple
of times, but just couldn't hold them off. And now
Byrons had are really opening up the floodgates here in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
Little half court trapped by Jill Rodriguez and the Bulldogs
coming out of the time out fifty two thirty four.
Now they go man to man half court pressure defense
Conrad against Larthrich. Say, Larthrich dribble trim right side, gets
to the baseline of Nathan basket, try to dump it out,
no one home rebound, hankle, hankle down the left side,
hangs the air, puts it up an ind Wow, good
(01:19:50):
body control that time by key and ankle.
Speaker 4 (01:19:53):
No, we're not there yet, but I mean it's pretty
close to the end here for Cathoic Central owned by
twenty with four and a half to go. Then Byron said,
are really starting to flex those muscles offensively.
Speaker 17 (01:20:05):
What was it?
Speaker 2 (01:20:06):
Dash dash Rudolph? Oh at three point larth Ridge and
he got hit on the hand as it released it
by Bond. So a chance at a four point play.
Speaker 5 (01:20:16):
Well.
Speaker 4 (01:20:18):
Right there and cash his bot a little bit of
coal in the stocking because he reaches in there on
a three point attempt and larth Ridge, I mean he's
shooting from twenty three ft. Mean he's shooting from the
college arc and so back getting a little over inxious
there and just what we thought it was over Marthrids
completes the.
Speaker 5 (01:20:36):
Four point play.
Speaker 2 (01:20:37):
Yeah, a rare four point play. Is now a lot
will come in checking out I Manti Hinkle. Yeah. By
the way, Buck Chio, just to give a little preview.
And this is actually counted as part of the CU
Holiday Hoops Tournament here, but it's kind of a separate
game with the two programs. Rockford and DC will meet
January seventh on the boys side here. How good is
that gonna be? Man, it'ld be a great game. White
(01:21:00):
up to Carol Oh trying to lob it again, that
one just too far away from the rim, couldn't bring
it home and rebound now cleared out of there by
bowing after a loose ball, and Whiteers had the right idea.
Speaker 5 (01:21:10):
I just didn't get the lob close enough to the
basket down low lot.
Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
Nice finish win to gather himself, got control of the
basketball before he went up in a nice.
Speaker 5 (01:21:19):
Finish off the window and a quick six nothing run
by cc.
Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
Here fifty four to forty hank a little hesitation to
free himself at all, silky smooth is the south fall.
I like the seniors.
Speaker 5 (01:21:31):
The defenders shorts are still at the freether wide.
Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
I mean, just a great move by Hankle. He's not
big in stature, but he's getting the looks from the
likes of aquinas in some other area schools. Is now
McCoy with the land Joe Rodriguez not.
Speaker 4 (01:21:44):
Happy, no, and another easy bucket underneath that one was McCoy.
Speaker 2 (01:21:50):
Just too easy for Catholic Central full time outs. We'll
step aside as well. Buck three forty five left to
go on this one Byron Center fifty six Catholic Central
forty two back with more as you're listening to it
live on ninety six to one. The game Red pickitta
here from my home team, Montel Construction, and guess one
ball is here. I know football season, right, but it's
(01:22:10):
also the perfect time to start. Joe. I'll try to
get Jill Rodriguez for a quick interview right after the game,
and then we'll do our two segments. Okay, it's free
in the future, Colmnte segments and six.
Speaker 5 (01:22:24):
Nine safety could remember, well, we don't do it, defensive
player do it?
Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
Especially? Yes?
Speaker 26 (01:22:30):
I do?
Speaker 5 (01:22:30):
Oh you do?
Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
Okay, let me know if you have a nomination. Uh yeah.
Bret Pikett along with Gino back your court sign at
Cornerstone University's mull Arena. Happy holidays everyone, and three forty
(01:22:51):
five left to go on this one featuring the Boys
match up with Byron Center Grads, catholict Ceterral. It's been
a good one throughout, but Byron Center year pulling away
to try to get their sixth victory of the year.
Speaker 4 (01:23:03):
Well, Catholic Central not going away quietly. Eight to two
run after they thought they were gonna be done.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
Lead a Hinkle around and oh halfway down and popped out, rebound, cleared,
fine bowing bounce pass outlet, here's Bob wat kids in
the front court. Now facts out, spins away from Hinkle,
hands off to Larthridge. Now off top, They'll reset to McCoy.
That's what you're talking about with a deliberate half court set, Bucks,
you know all night long.
Speaker 5 (01:23:29):
No, they've got to go a little faster. With three
minutes to go, now.
Speaker 2 (01:23:32):
McCoy just lost a handle, dug out of there by Hinkle.
Good job to White Shirts.
Speaker 5 (01:23:35):
Yeah, unforced airs really for Catholic Central.
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Kind of a killer tonight, Bonds bounce pass over, Henckel
sets the buppies for three. No battle for the rebound.
Larthridge up high to rip it down now, Larthridge old
boy and good sportsmanship there. Hinkle was just trying to
slide by him and they both went to the same direction.
Larthridge will go to the charity stripe.
Speaker 4 (01:24:00):
Well, I think we talked about, you know, Byron Center
having you know, both teams kind of trying to congeal
Ethic Central and their new coach with a lot of
young players and Byron Center having a long football season.
A couple of those players now joined the team in
Bowman the transfer. But you know that's the thing with
coach Rodriguez, always coaching. And now darth Berry's a triple
(01:24:23):
I tell.
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
You he's got that part of his game. He's a
nice player to gain. He can shoot over a lot
of defenders with his size at six to six.
Speaker 5 (01:24:29):
And it was a twenty point game all of a
sudden out down to eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
That's why Joe Rodriguez not happy with Larthrich almost got
a knock away steal from behind. They gotta get him
for a reach in foul.
Speaker 4 (01:24:40):
That's why coach Rodriguez took the time out because he
saw what was happening. But momentum clearly with the Cougars
now in these last couple of minutes is they've narrowed
the gap to eleven and they're still trying to get
into anything. I mean, if they can get a couple
more buckets here, they might have to extend the game
with some foul.
Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
Freshman Carter Bergen checking in for cap eccentral in for
Colin Lott. Two thirty and ticking left to go on
this one. Not done yet. Fifty six to forty five.
BoNT around McCoy with the dribble, gets in the paint,
kickout left wing, Lee way off the mark, rebound Watkins.
Watkins wants to run brings in the paid nice three
sixties fingles up shot block from eye by Bond. Now
(01:25:19):
Cam Carroll with the outlet after the rebound up ahead
and the Hanko puts it up an head.
Speaker 5 (01:25:23):
That's a great job by Hankling, a great pass by Carroll.
Man that big guy can really distribute the basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:25:30):
It's tough. Really impressed him first time I've seen him
upflosting personal obviously since early last year. As he comes over,
tries to get the block, but they're gonna have a
whistle before that Larthridge going up. That'll be on Bond.
I tell you what though, Buck, And we've kind of
seen this two years ago. It was a more dominant
(01:25:52):
girl signed. As far as the great teams in West Michigan,
there's still gonna be some good girls teams, but like
last year, I think, boy, the boys field is really
deep again this year.
Speaker 4 (01:26:00):
Yeah, a lot of individuals and there's not And you
look at the girls side, obviously Rockford clearly the best
team in the area, if not maybe the state.
Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
I'm very dominant.
Speaker 4 (01:26:10):
But in the boys side, like you said, yes, Rockford
very strong, but I mean there's a very very balanced
and deep as you said, boys side, any team and
any night can really come out in surprise.
Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
Oh Unity, Christian Grand Rats, Christian South, Christian Northview. These
guys were watching out right here Rockford. You mentioned Rockford
beating Northfield, that Calvin invite.
Speaker 4 (01:26:30):
And I know Catholic Central's kind of strong with here,
But I like what they've done tonight, Carroll.
Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
With a two handed flush. They just turn over the
top and Catholic Central got too far extended out easy
one for the big fella again from BoNT Watkins wants
to answer with a three. No lorth Ridge though, oh
Pie with the offensive put back off the window. Now
they're gonna pressure still eleven point games sixty to forty
nine and now Watkins with a cheapiet.
Speaker 4 (01:26:55):
But well, the thing is you want to get the pressure,
but also you're trying to top the clock.
Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
And stend the game.
Speaker 5 (01:27:01):
So not too disappointed in that result.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
One twenty six left to go on this one sixty
to forty nine. Not the bonushit is Byron Center after
one by Watchett even one more cash just bought in
the backcourt. That's the other thing about Byron said, they
got a lot of people that can handle the basketball
against pressure. If you try to bring it on him
like this guy Isaac Lee, and you got Hinkles, who
is right.
Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
With no shot clock, Catholic Central's gonna have to find
a way to get the ball or.
Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
No, look past whits just goes up.
Speaker 26 (01:27:33):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:27:33):
But Carol with the rebound flush for two. It just
looks at his buddies in this dude section. Three big
dunks in this fourth quarter alone for Cam Carroll step
back jumper, McCoy no bought with the rebound and Joe
Rodriguez say, let's just calm it down a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:27:50):
Voice Cody Perl telling his guys, we don't need to
foul here. I'm gonna minute thirteen down.
Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
Just play good defense battle four twenty eight seconds as
Buck mentioned, no shot clock, no look past to Carroll
up and under puts it in. Cam Carroll ated his
totals tell you his teammates are setting them up well,
especially number five cash was bond sixty four forty nine.
(01:28:18):
McCoy step back three from the top, short flat rebound,
Carroll up ahead to Isaac Lee and I think Isaac
Lee up is gonna call off the dogs here. Don't
need to score anymore. Whitchers final thirteen seconds will throw
it back out and Byron Center gonna ice their sixth
victory of the year in a pressive one sixty four
forty nine. They get it done over Catholic.
Speaker 4 (01:28:39):
Central well and again the final score is will be
a little bit misleeding.
Speaker 5 (01:28:43):
A great effort by Catholic Central. They were down by
twenty one point in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
They fought it all the way back almost a single digits,
but Byron Center put their foot on the games just
a little bit more and was able to get it
out with a victory here. But impressive performance by both teams.
That Catholic Jentrew put up a really good fight. But
Byron Town, you can tell how talented and deep they are.
Money will they get it all clicking Brett, They're going
to be very tough in the Okay Conference.
Speaker 2 (01:29:10):
Well, and we're gonna try and get Joe Rodriguez here
before he heads to the locker room to get some
thoughts from him on this one. Sixty four forty nine
the final as Byron Center gets it done over ground
affets Catholic Central and we'll have the discount door post
game show coming up in a matter of minutes. See
(01:29:32):
if we can get Joe real quick. Joe Rodriguez joined
US Court signed coach Happy holidays, first and foremost, congratulations
and really impressive. First time I've seen you this year
with the Bulldogs fast break. I know you guys worked
in that lot and You've got some great athletes to
lead the way. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:29:49):
Absolutely, you know, we know this one is gonna be
a challenge.
Speaker 27 (01:29:52):
Coming off a big win Saturday, quick turnaround, we didn't
really prepare for this game, you know, and gave him
Sunday off, giving them their legs, you know, more important
than getting him in the gym and trying to you know,
talk to him a little bit.
Speaker 9 (01:30:04):
But you know, we got the players that can do
that there. They got a lot of high IQ players.
Speaker 27 (01:30:08):
We show them a little bit of film, we show them,
we talk a little bit about what we see and
they go out and adjust.
Speaker 9 (01:30:12):
So I'll part of him.
Speaker 2 (01:30:13):
Tonight, Coach.
Speaker 4 (01:30:14):
One that justin I saw you guys made when you
brought Bowman in the game went big. That really helped
your defense because you're able to stem camp attempt out
past the key and they were just not able to
get the ball inside because you do. They wanted to
splow the game down, run the half court offense. But
I feel like that lineup was probably your best defensive
flying up all the game.
Speaker 26 (01:30:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 27 (01:30:30):
Absolutely, you know, it's something kind of intentional that we
like to do. Right, Conrad starts for us and kind.
Speaker 9 (01:30:37):
Of he's a net.
Speaker 27 (01:30:38):
He's gonna try to wear out another guy. And then
we bring in Bowman. He's got fresh legs and he's
got energy. That's the beauty of this team. We got
guys that they know their role and they come in,
they're ready when the numbers called, and U you know.
Speaker 9 (01:30:50):
Hopefully we can change to stay locked in in those
roles and keep growing.
Speaker 2 (01:30:54):
A lot of guys I like in your squad obviously,
you know loo Isaac and he's just getting his legs
underneath him and he took some time off. Cash spons
a great player like Kinkle, But I'm so impressed with
Cam Carroll and his all around game. Can you talk
about his development? And he's a good passing big man,
just does all little things and you saw at the
end his teammates appreciate that for him.
Speaker 9 (01:31:14):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean, uh, you know, not taking anything
away from Camp. Cam's a heck of a talent.
Speaker 27 (01:31:20):
But you know, we we had guys that really are
making each other better out there right now, you know,
and that goes both ways. Cam's making our guards better
and our guards are making Cam better. You saw that
at the end, you know, having the vision, having the
ability to get away from pressure and find them when
we need them. It's a it's a it's a great
pressure release when you have a six to nine guy down.
Speaker 9 (01:31:38):
There to make up make a place for you.
Speaker 27 (01:31:40):
So yeah, no, he's he was really great tonight, played
two really good games last couple of days.
Speaker 9 (01:31:45):
So you know, hopefully we can keep it wrolling.
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
We know your team wants to celebrate with you. We'll
let you go. Thank you so much, Joe appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (01:31:51):
Merry Christmas. Co Mary Christmas.
Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
Joe Rodriguez joined us from Byron Center. Is they get
the victory? Buck Gino impressive in that second half the night,
sixty four to forty nine.
Speaker 4 (01:31:59):
The final coach Rodriguez said, it's not one player doing everything.
Speaker 5 (01:32:03):
It's everybody making each other better.
Speaker 4 (01:32:05):
And I love to hear that because that's what you
have to be able to do, not only in basketball,
it's in sports in general, but especially.
Speaker 5 (01:32:13):
In high school.
Speaker 4 (01:32:14):
When you have kids playing football or soccer or anything else,
it's out. They're playing basketball a year and they get
to play with each other year round.
Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
I mean, they get to good.
Speaker 4 (01:32:22):
They show up around a week before Thanksgiving and all
of a sudden, there's games in a couple of weeks right,
So it's very good for him to say that because
now they're good, they're just starting to job.
Speaker 5 (01:32:33):
I mean, that's not the finished product.
Speaker 4 (01:32:35):
If he's if they're that impressive now, I can't wait
to see what they look like February and March, because boy,
that's a really talented team from top to bottom.
Speaker 2 (01:32:44):
And Joe Rodriguez talking with his team right now before
they break for the holidays. But as he mentioned, they
played Saturday game right back here, so did Catholic Central
and Mona Shores and so tough turnaround. I like the fact,
like you said too, because it hasn't happened always for
Viron Center other teams like South Christian Cathic Central. We talk,
but well, take little time off you want to whatever.
This Byron Center Roun to ford Field was different, and
(01:33:05):
he knew guys like Isaac Lee, Landon cond let them
kind of get their legs back, let them get healthy,
just because of the rating that they take in football.
It's a different game, and you've seen the finished product.
Now those guys are excited, fired up, and Landon Conrad
and obviously Isaac Lee big contributors tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
Well, and that's just it I mean, you need those
guys on a night in a night out basis.
Speaker 4 (01:33:25):
But if you look at Isaac Lee's schedule, right, and
he starts football practice in August, doesn't get done until
November thirty, and there's already basketball games going on during
that time, and then he goes right into basketball.
Speaker 5 (01:33:37):
Of course, like you said, he missed the Granville game,
but man, I mean.
Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
He's been going NonStop probably since the summer, and so
you've got to give him some time.
Speaker 5 (01:33:45):
And that's what they're able to do. But they're able
to do that.
Speaker 4 (01:33:48):
The luxury of that is because they have guys like
Bowman on the bench, and they have whitchers, they have
guys like that that they don't have to play a
tight rotation.
Speaker 5 (01:33:57):
They could go eight to nine deep and feel very
comfortable and playing a lot of good teams.
Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
Discount or postgame show coming up. We'll take you to
the individual scoring summery and this one brought to you
by MKD Funeral Homes and also our Jenny's Family Stores,

of I'mona Shoes sixty nine to forty eight, and then
our featured game tonight was Byron Center over Grandappa's Catholic
Central by a final sixty four forty nine. Let's take
it through the MKD Funeral Holmes final scoring. So I
mean this one, I'll break it down team wise by quarter.
(01:38:18):
So it was Byron Center by just four after one,
seventeen to thirteen. Then it was a three point game,
so Catholic Central won the second quarter at a half
twenty eight twenty five. Things opened up in the third
quarter for the Bulldogs with that running game. They led
by eleven after three forty five thirty four, and then
closed things out again with a fifteen point victory sixty
four forty nine.
Speaker 4 (01:38:37):
Leading scorers for the Cougars of Catholic Central's A. Larthridge
with eighteen and Jordan McCoy with ten. The only double
figure scorers for the men in Blue and white for
Byron Center came to Carroll with eighteen the leading scorer,
and then we had Ken Hinkel with fourteen and Cash
has BoNT with about with thirteen for the Bulldog So
(01:38:58):
three double figure scorers for the Bulldogs. But man, I
would also say, we're gonna talk about a little bit
later in the second segment, But man, I don't know
how many assists they had, but it was a lot
the good passing, good team basketball, getting a lot of
open looks especially close to the basket, but also outdep
just really good ball movement created a lot of points
for Myron Sata tonight.

it's time now for our uptown cheapskate offensive player of
the game. And with the honor of doing that, my
partner tonight, Santahana all Buck Gino.
Speaker 4 (01:43:16):
Well, when you got eighteen points, eight boards and probably
unofficially nine or ten assists, probably gonna be the offensive
player of the game.
Speaker 5 (01:43:24):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (01:43:24):
So it's just as easy as in football, we read
the stats and we say, Camden Carro, come on down,
you gonna be our uptown cheapskate offensive player of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
And he was impressive tonight. I mean, six ' nine
going to Bowling Green State, but he showed me some
other things besides just being tall. Obviously getting rebounds, but
I mean blockashot you expect him to score on the post.
I mean he did a lot of great things, as
you mentioned with those numbers. I mean the passing was
probably the most impressive part for me.
Speaker 4 (01:43:49):
Brad BigMan, who can distribute the basketball, who understands the
game and sees the four all ninety four feet and
it really just really a big bonus when you have
somebody that can do that, because you know defenses are
gonna collapse, you know they're gonna be concentrating the big,
tall guy.
Speaker 2 (01:44:07):
But boy, he just was able to pass the ball
so and also moved.
Speaker 4 (01:44:10):
I mean we're gonna talk about in our Play of
the game, but I mean just moved around the ford
and was able to get to sponsor. His guards were
able to get him to basketball in open space, and
he's able to get easy buckets.
Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
So just a really complete player. I was very impressed
with Cam Carroll tonight. Well I don't know what size
he is, but he's gonna do some shopping on now.
Speaker 4 (01:44:28):
Well, yeah, we're gonna have to fight some tall or
add some length to some sleeves.
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
Here he gets to score twenty five dollars gift card
to our friends at Uptown Chief Skates with locations in Granville,
kent Win and Holland. So Cam some extra shopping near
the Christmas season. Uptown Cheapskate they buy what you loved yesterday,
sell what you want today, clean out your closet and
or and cash for your clothes. U plus you can
be coming uptown inside or it's simple and get monthy deals.
Just go to uptown cheapskate dot com to sign up. Well,
(01:44:54):
we're gonna go with one of his teammates too from
the football gridiron switching over. But boy, you could see
this with his steals, his athletic ability to go up.
He makes some great catches as a wide receiver. Well,
he also can block some shots as well. And Isaac
Lee is going to be number two, the senior guard,
Tonight's Montel Construction Defensive Player of the game.
Speaker 5 (01:45:15):
What do you have?
Speaker 2 (01:45:15):
A few steals?
Speaker 4 (01:45:16):
He had like five rebounds, Yeah, three steals, five rebounds,
at least a couple of blocks that we know of.
Speaker 5 (01:45:22):
So Isaac Lee did a great job on the other
end of the four.
Speaker 4 (01:45:26):
Wasn't his night offensively, maybe that he would have liked
to had, But boy just made up for it on
the defensive end and did it well.
Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
And he's Tonight's Montel Construction Defensive Player of the game,
the senior number three, Isaac Lee from Byron Center. Well,
before we wrap things, pop out that J and H's
Family Stores highlight. It was a good one. It was
the excamation point of this win for Byron Center, win
number six on the season for them. We'll let you
take a listen as the big fella got set up,

went up, lots of contact, got it stripped. Here comes

Cadillac on the boys side, coming up Thursday night, January second.
Approximate pregame show start six forty five year on ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:46:47):
Six to one, the game with a seven o'clock tip.
It's gonna be an intriguing matchup. Obviously Cadillac has a
couple of good players. Coopersville for that good team last year.
Obviously graduation kind of took some things away, but we'll
see what they have in store. I think that's gonna
be a really good match between two teams that are
kind of under the radar right now and again part
of this this big showcase, so you know they're gonna
(01:47:09):
be good and hopefully Heys have a good game well now.
Speaker 2 (01:47:12):
