Speaker 1 (00:56):
And good Friday if you never won, and welcome live
to wildcast Um on the campus of Whalen Union High School,
where tonight on a girls edition of the LMCU High
School Basketball Game of the Week, we feature division rivalry
between two of the top three teams, and the OK
gold Sophia Prinz and the ten and two Sailors of
South Christian square off for the first time this season

(01:17):
with Harmony Laker and the seven and three Wildcats of Whalen.
John Ill because our executive producer extraordinaire tonight will be
replaced by joining as we go through the broadcast along
with Jasonutt. My name is Brett Pagetta and Jay always
a great rivalry when these two get together on the
girls side. Let's quickly on this abbreviate a JH Family
Stores pregame show. Take a look at the keys tonight's contest.

(01:37):
It's gonna be fun as far as temple up and down,
and these teams like to shoot the three.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Well, and they also have played some great games against
one another. They're just kind of carrying on this tradition
and we expect another classic South Christian Whale game tonight.
So let's start with the visiting Sailors. They need to
play tough. I had a chance to talk to you
head coach Erica Brown before the game, and she said, Yo,
this is gonna be a tough game. We're gonna have
to get gritty to win this game. So they gotta play
top and they're gonna mix it up right like. South

(02:02):
Christian's considerably smaller than Whalen, as are most of the
Wildcats opponents. We're gonna see South Brenna press. We'll see
him run three quarter court. We'll see him run man,
We'll see him run zone. They got to use their
speed athleticism against the bigger Whalen team. And for the Wildcats,
they need to take care of the basketball right. Turnovers
always seem to be such a large part of these games.
They have got to take it away more than they

(02:23):
give it away. And then they need to look at
Sophia Prinz and Lizzie Waldeys, the top two scorers for
South Christian. They have got to contain those two South
Christian players if Whaleen's gonna have a win tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
All right, there you go, our Vandalon home Improvement keys
to the contest with a one and only Jase Nutt,
with eighty years in the business. Vandalian Home Improvement offers
top notch contract with services to customers in West Michigan
called six one six sixty six nine eleven eleven for
more details or visit Vanderlins dot com. Early tip for
the girls. A doubleheader for the varsity tonight. South Christian
boys who played last night tough loss to Northfield on

(02:53):
the road, will take on Whalen here a little bit
later on. We will not bring you that broadcast though,
but interesting to know Whalen girls did not play this week,
where South Christian did beat Northfield just last night. So
you went up, there's some heavy legs and that one
Jake Well.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Whalen hasn't played for eight days. They have played since
last Thursday. South Christian coming off and easy, went at
home against Northview just last night.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
South Christian wins the tap. Meredith Helmets is sophomore in
the starting lineup with the basketball swings around left side
so Fia Friends is their leading scorer. Back to Helms
dribble penetration amongst the trees kicks back out waldheis for
three short battle for the rebound one by bree not
down lowing the post again with the size, we'll set
up the starting last for Whalen after this possession brought

(03:35):
to you by Sporting you as South Christian resets just
underway Helmas after the pick and roll can't find not
and now thrown out of bounds deflected, Whalen will get
the hands up. They create a lot of steals to
get into the transition game and obviously forced turnovers against
their opponent. This wee we'll stay with South Christian ornath

(03:55):
their own basket to our left. Helmas swings right side.
Woldtheist is one of the leading scorers as well. She
can really shoot the three along with her younger sisters,
A pair of sisters Friendses and Woldheist's keep an eye
on tonight. Now Harmony Laker almost a step in steel,
couldn't keep her balance on the nearest sideline, stepped out
of bounds and to go back to South Christian. So
it's Lizzie Woldheist, a junior. Then bring out the senior

(04:18):
Sophia Prinz at junior, Meredith Helmets a sophomore, and Lily Knits,
another senior. For head coach Erica Brown to start the game,
and Whaling yet to go on offense.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Jay while they're in this matchup zone, they're in his
own defense with man principles twice nearly had to steal
their length will be effective here.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Speaking of size, Meredith Helms really coming on. She had
fourteen of their win last night in Northview, thus getting
the starting nine. Drible penetration through the trees puts it
up an end for the first basket of the game.
Now Helmus on the front of that two to two
to one full court pressure knocks it away. Going the
other way, Sophia Prince with the left hand couldn't finish rebound. Whaling.
Here come the Wildcats across the timeline for the first

(04:54):
time tonight, knocked out of bounds as they trapped on
the near side, and holl They're going to say South
Christian basketball.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
And Marissa Ainsworth can't believe it. She's standing there ready
to inbound. And I think the officials are gonna get
together and talk about this here.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
I think they are because I think they missed it.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
You talk about Meredith Helmets, who had that bucket to
start the game, right sophomore came up last year as
a freshman and was really a contributor. She's been coming
off the bench for South Christian. I talked to errikre
Brown before the game, so we're gonna start Mereith Helmets tonight.
You can see both of these teams moving their offensive
for me or they excuse me, their starting lineups a
little bit. As we have Lauren Baltima, the six to
three sophomore also starting from Whale. This is a big

(05:28):
game these two teams.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Knowing Caromby Laker got bumped from the backside, no call
they play on, couldn't control the pass on the inbounds
Wes Hudson saying, how does she double over that time
as she's coming to the ball. Good defense on the
knockaway Lily knits two three extended matchups on to the
half court for Whaley. You talked about their defensive pressure.
Now Sophia Prinz cutting down lane, can't finish on the

(05:51):
left side of the basket, and now rebound battled for
They're gonna have a push against South Christian way a
little get it back. Marissa Ainsworth getting the start tonight.
Guard number one, a sophomore long with Laney Wolf the
junior than Lauren Baltimore. You talked about her size six
' three is sophomore, big number twenty, Addie Sikorski junior starter.
Then the only senior is starting for West Hudson, Harmony Laker,

(06:12):
and she'll be playing at Centerville, Ohio Division two program
next year. Wonderful players. Laker as the user in the
middle to attack and now is step in steal that
time trying to throw it ahead. Nice job defensively bring
not coming up with the steel. Here comes friends over
to Helmus just inside the three point line. Hier can
shot no rebound cleared out of there by Boltzmak. And
here comes Harmony Laker on the attack up the right side,

(06:34):
trying to drive baseline but cut off now throwing away
Ainsworth hitting the deck though the Lakers, I should say
the Wildcats and Harmony Laker dig it out triple try
no good by Ainsworth in the right corner, long carem.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
They'll run down by Whalon south Chirst. You are gonna
settle in a mand a man here. They've been trapping
Ainsworth the first couple of times down it's been effective.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
They just shit left wing Harmony Laker trying to feed
the post at time and a foul coming over the
top with Sophia Prince are gonna get here with a
hold two nothing out of scores South Christian five twenty
five left to go on the opening quarter. Glad to
have you long of this early girls edition. On a
Friday night from Whaling.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Harmony Laker wage just fifteen a game headed to D
two Cedarville just outside of Dayton, Ohio.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Oh, beautiful bounce pass on the inbounds South Christian went
man and paid for it as it was Lany Wolf
that time to a cutting Addie Sikorski. Sikorski one of
their leading scores with the Wildcats coming in along with Laker.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, Sikorski's outstanding and the sign of a well coached
team right baseline out of bounds. They ran it to
perfection that time.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
They get it to the top of the key, knits,
turns and fires, couldn't get it to go long rebound
run down with the Wildcats. Here's Harmony Laker on the
attack step through little euro step that time, and as
she went up, she's so good at drawing contact with
her size. She gets to the charity stripe and that's
where she can make you pay the two games last year.
We were here at Whaling for this game as our

(07:56):
LMCU Game of the Week, traveling for this broadcast, and
it was an nail bier, but Whalen pulled it out
JAY fifty one forty four back on February twentieth. Laker
not as impressive as she was. She went thirty plus
in the first meeting when they wanted South Christian seventy
two to fifty six. But this is how good this
rivalry is. Whalan wins both regular season matchups, but then

(08:16):
South Christian got the revenge in the districts semi final.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
And I liked this early adjustment from Whalen going to Harmony.
Laker with the ball in her hands right Mersa Ainsworth
is the point guard. She's a good one, but south'spent
trapping her with effect with the affecting Whalen's offense, So
they go Laker with the ball. She puts them right
on the deck, gets to the free throw line. Harmony
splits the pairs.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
The first one popped out three to two down the lane,
unable to finish that time. Just in the ballgame for
South Christian, Abbey Prince the freshman.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, Prince doesn't start, but play starter minutes first went
off the bench, got a good look there, just didn't
get it to go.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
And she's a little taller than her sister already as
a freshman, playing more in the post, and she's gonna
guard the sophomore boltimately trying to lob it in, knocked
away by Avy Prince. Meredith Helmes coming up head up,
kicks it back out left side, unable to gather it
was Lizzie waldeye. She was ready to fire out to
Abby Pranz. They swing it right side to her older sister,
Sophia South Christian's still young when you look at their hoster,

(09:11):
even though they got a ton of talent with both
juniors starting as sophomores last year. Now Helms dribble penetration,
tried to kick it to the left in a reaching foul.
Gonna be called against Whalen. Let's see what's on. They're
gonna get number four, Lady Wolf.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
The junior both teams very young. Whalen starts just one senior.
Of course, it is their best player. In harmony, laker
I liked the high low for the Wildcats down on
the other end of the floor of that time South's
gonna front Baltimo at sixty three, and they did a
good job denying.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Nice job on the inbounds, Abby Prince got a good
look underneath the basket. Great feed by Charlotte Markcott. Excuse
me by Cameron Boonster just checked in the line of
four Erica Brown and South Christian, but they aren't able
to convert. Now Laker gets it blocked that time on
the side from Boonstraw on the runout South Christian up ahead,
Sophia Prianz lays it up.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
And in Cammy Boonstra, normally a starter coming off the bench,
adapting to her new role bringing energy, big time block
against Laker and the great outlet passed the prin.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Both teams have pretty good depth. I would say South
Christian a little more talent with the youngsters. And now
a travel gonna be called shuffle the feet before she
put it down Sikorski. We'll go back the other way
four to three, South Christian by one. After that last bucket,
buy Prians with three forty left to go on the
opening quarter, which is being brought to you tonight. Find
Jane h Family's doors with now sixty plus locations across
Michigan to serve you. Janey's Family Store is stopping on

(10:21):
the way to your next game or on your way home.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
We see Boonstra coming off South Christian's bench and becoming
a spark pluck. Here comes Izzy Johnson, the senior for Whalen.
She's been outstanding as the sixth player for the Wildcats
all year. We'll see if she can make an impact here.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Early Sophia Franz to Abbey Prinz, the younger sister out
top and now take away by Whalen. We've talked about
their turnovers so good and now trying to steal it back,
and she does is Meredith Helmus. Helmus lays it up
and in has hitting the deck that time was Laney
Wolf And as good as Whaland is with their defensive pressure,
how about South Christian as well? And they just keep

(10:55):
the two to two to one full court pressure attacking Whalen.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Yeah, and Helmas and Sophia Prince are really good on
the ball defenders and they've been excellent taking the ball
away from Whaling here Early, I'd go back to Laker
bringing it up to court Harmony Laker if I was Whaling.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Sophomore Met Meredith Helmets. They're leading score with four of
the six four the Steilers to start, they try to
go inside out of the right block and a reach
in and file against South Christian. That's only their fourth
team foul on the board. With two forty six left
to go on.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
The first we see South mixing it up. Now they're
in a zone. They started in man. They show the
three quarter core pressure. That's what they're gonna try to
do against the size of Whaling. It has been effective early.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Lily knits back in for Erica Brown checking out a
Sophia Prince to get a breather. Whaling didan bounds any
throwing basket having trouble close to a five second call.
Just got it in. They throw it in the far
corner left side. Now left wing on the way, three
ball up and good lady Wolf the junior knocking it
down eight, six to six our score.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Big shot from Wolf. Excellent job against the zone. If
you're gonna make threes, lot Wolf for the big time
hit there.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Right wing with the basketball man and man pressure defense.
Switching it up is Whalen now and on the right
side it's Boon Struss swings at right corner trible penetration,
try to spin under defender and losing the handle his
knits that time. But last touch by Sikorski, you got
a hand in there to knock it away. It'll remain
with the Sailors too. Are left. Two to fifteen left

(12:24):
to go in the opening corner. We've got a time
out South Christian. It is a full timeout, so we'll
step aside as well. Two fifteen left to go. On
the first back and forth we go South Christian six,
Whalen six. You're listening to the NMCU High School Basketball

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Traffic Keita Jays nutting back here, Wildcats Gymnasium in whaling
off the inbounds Boonstraue gotten in wide open with prins
from the right corner, could knock down the three too
strong rebound. Here come the Wildcats as we go under
two minutes left to go, opening quarter Ton at six apiece.
Losing the handle of that time was Ainsworth. He's had
a tough night. Here comes Helmas helm Us with a
steal four on two kicks out right side, letting it fly.

(14:10):
Waldeys no, but she was fouled and the guilty party
for whalen just coming at that last stoppage is he
Johnson the senior guard. We'll pick up her first and
we'll send Waldheiss, who's looking for her first points of
the night. She had seventeen excuse me, fifteen last night
against Norfew and the big win at the free throw

(14:31):
line to get her going.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
We talked in the pre earth at the beginning of
the game about how Whalen's concentration on Sophia Prince and
Lizzie Waltheis Neither I have scored so far in this
first quarter, but you can see the desperation trying to
get a hand up on Waldheus because she can really
shoot the three. That time they were late and committed the.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Foul seventy four forty two went over the Wildcats. Within
the division, Waltheis has missed the first two. Third nuch
coming in I would say right now plane last night
South Christian looks more on pace and tempo and doing
what they want to do. Looks a little rusty with
that layoff.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Yeah, it'd be interesting to see how that continues throughout
the game. But South Christian certainly has a lot of energy.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Third one of charm for Lizzie Woldheist, so she gets
one of three seven to six South Kristian leads in
by one two two one full court pressure with Helmes
and Abbey prints out top with some length. Now they
try to throw over the top and knocked away, but
it'll stay with Whaling to our right trying to feed
ahead to Ray Stalard and just checked in was Marissa Ainsworth.

(15:28):
And now Lady Wolf will get a breather from Wes
Hudson in for her. Dcy Schaeffer. The junior guard.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Shaffers started quite a bit for Whalen this year. Coming
off the bench here tonight.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Erica Brown gonna counter her as checking out as Lily
Nits Now Harmony Laker trying to fire at three off
the front of the ram from the right corner up ahead.
Now good luck Helmes to Sophia Brands. No one back
for the Wildcats South Christian makes him pay nine six sailors.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Yeah, no, no excuse there for Whale and they need
to rotate defensively, get someone back. Prince just beats everybody
down court and got an easy one tonight.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Study lamps being brought you by supporting you, branding your
success since twenty twelve. As the ball knocked out of bounds,
it'll stay with the Wildcats to our right.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
That one hit the official and stayed inbounds quite a
bit longer than any player expecting nobody even went for it. Well,
it bouts three more times and finally went out of bounds.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Sporting you has what you need to look your best
check out there. You're an inventor round line at Sporting
letter youu dot com. And now an illegal screen going
to be called against Whalen trying to get their leading
scorer Harmony Laker going so South Christian will get it back.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Yeah, turnovers, we talked about turnovers, and the Wildcats are
struggling right now, turning it over a lot still early
and only down three late in the first quarter. But
they need a value the basketball a little bit more
here going forward.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Well, we talked about Jay last done of the LMCU
basketball blitz on ninety six to one the game. How
important this game is for the winner to stay in
the race because Wes Cathock right now, a top unbeaten
division play has beaten both these teams in the first
goal round, which, by the way, this is the end
of the first goal round in the Okay Gold They'll
go through again and those second meetings will be big,

(17:01):
but West Cathley handling both Whaling and South Christian by
double digits, so the winner here tonight will stay a
game back.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Both teams returning four starters from this matchup last year
in the district, the game that South Christian won after
Whalen won both regular seasons. So both teams young last year,
both teams.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Still young this year. Now. A trap and a deflection
and steal by Sophia Prances. He brought it into the
front court filed from behind. Forty six seconds left to
go on this opening quarter, which is being brought to
you by a straight Line fence fencing company, Grand Rapids

nine are visit Straight Line Fences dot com Rett pikeet

Christian would lead and the basketball on the road, kicking
the corner over the double team, no in and out
tough when it looked good on the way that time
for Lily Knits from three Harmony, Laker back the other way,
look at that cross over the right hand and finishes

(18:00):
with a scoop shot up.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
And in excellent job by Laker, showing our ability to
do it all. Put it on the floor, go get it,
get to the basket and finish. And then Whalen turns
them over.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Yeah. Both these teams are good with the pressure all
over full ninety four feet and they can score in bunches.
And after this steal by Shafer and out, Laker with
the runner down the lane gets it to go off
the window.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
It's that quick, right, We're talking about how Whalen struggling,
how they're down and boom four in a row and
they have the lead.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Sophia prints now a bit, the buzzer split the two
on top of the two three matchups on extended, then
hit the runner for the free throw line off the
window went good in one an opening quarter after eight
minutes of play here in Whalen, our scores South Christian eleven,
Whalon Wildcats ten, and will be back with second quarter
action after this on ninety six to one.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Juela Livecans coming in seventy three three and one Okay
gold Place South Christian at ten and two after their
win last night over North through four to one of
the ok Golden Start the second quarter of the drive
right side all the way to the rack. Marissa Ainsworth
puts it up off the window, and back and forth
we go with lead changes whaling back in front by one,
twelve to eleven.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, I remember Marissa Ainsworth just a tenth grader. Sometimes
you forget that she has the ball in her hands.
A ton does a really nice job, gets all the
way to the bucket. Was the starter last year as
a freshman for West Hudson.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
In for South Christian Natalie woldheis for the first time
tonight the freshman triple try from the right wing. No goodbye, Nitz,
he said, a couple of good looks, unable to knock
it down and don't forget every three pointer may during
our Game of the Week broadcast fifty dollars donated from LMCU.
It's a kids food basket part of our Baskets for
Kids campaign and year three. So far through five games
in the regular season of ten, we've raised twenty seven

(20:41):
hundred dollars with made three pointers as a wild run
of that time by Ainsworth. Too much size there for
South Christian, battle for the rebound and now a kick
and it's gonna go against the wildcast excuse me against
South Christians, so Whalen will get it back.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
I'm way up here, but that didn't appear to be
an intentional kick from where I'm sitting, which the only
reason was it's violation if it's intentional, But the efficient
right on top of it gave it to Whalen. I
think it was gonna be Whaling's ball a bounds anyway.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Harmedy Lakers set to trigger the mbounds, gets it in
but challenged to ends with the left corner now down
low Laker double team kickout. Good luck, She's a good
passer for her size and Landy Wolf can't down up
the three rebound cleared by South Christian's Abbey Brand.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
That was the right play, I mean three South Christian
defenders around Laker when she got the ball, She's got
to kick to an open teammate and the wide up
at shot just didn't go in. But the right play
by Ham Harmony Laker.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Sophia Prance now gets it to a cunnye Lily knits.
Maybe an extra pass unneeded, try to get it to
Abby Prince knocked away and they say off of Prince's hands,
out of bounds. Good job by whalan Getting back to
the story, that I was talking about Whaling with their
size the average almost thirteen offensive rebounds per game, but
fifteen steals per game, and they forced with their presser

(21:54):
twenty five turnovers. But I would say in that opening quarter,
South Christian did a good job of turning over the
Wildcats laker up ahead against the pressure, spin tribble between
two bers and want to finish that time by Addie Sikorski,
the junior.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yeah, Sikorski's outstanding in it, six foot tall. That was
an incredibly agile move. Spin to the basket. That's how
you beat the press. Excellent job by Whaling that time.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Now down low, Abby Prince, the freshman, kicks it out
to her older sister, Sofia, dribbling down the left side
with his strong hand and split the defense of reaching
fil gonna be called I get you.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Gotta respect Sophia Prin's ability to shoot the three, but boy,
she's deadly going last.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Yeah, you can't come flying out.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
If you're gonna If you're gonna try to close out
like that, you got it. At least force her right.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Nit's gonna come out. The senior in for her is
fellow senior Cameron Boonstra. Remember Booster coming off the bench,
but as you mentioned the opening quarter, giving him some
good energy, gets into Abby Prince in the left corner
of the imbound. Now here's Meredith Helmes down the lane.
No one picks her up and she attacks and puts
it up an end.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Such a smart play by the sophomore that time the
gamble by Whale. Defensively, she didn't settle for a jump shot.
She put it on the floor and got all the
way to the basket. Excellent play by Meredith Helmes.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
I've watched her since she was a youngster. She actually
plays on my daughter's soccer team for club soccer, and
she's just got an unbelievable vision to her as far
as and decision making, like you said, point on high
basketball like you, high soccer like you when she plays,
and she's kind of that distributor but not afraid to
take her own when it's there.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Yeah, you can't coach that, right, I mean, that's just
sort of born, You're born with it. Helmets outstanding IQ.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Makes it a one point game. She's off to a
great startup believe six to help lead the way for
South Christian for Helmets getting the start ten nights from
Mead coach Erica Brown. Deflection. Now South Christian going a
little matchup zone, and it was Dacy Schaeffer trying to
get it out to the right wing to flat it out.
Is he Johnson on the imp bounce throws it out

(23:53):
front between the circle series of Landy Wolf, Sophia Prins
pressure in her, Meredith helmets out on top of that
two three matchup zone as well, and now Helma's got
a hand out it deflected trying to get out of
the wing. South Christian had at momentarily now stolen back. Boy,
this is protective basketball, gritty defensive effort. Is now, Oh,
they're gonna get Abbey Prians trying to knock it away

(24:14):
over the top against Izzie Johnson. Officials have been right
on top of it. They've called it pretty tight. And
this is a tough game to call because of the
defensive pressure and aggressive of both these teams. As Harmony
Laker a short breather back in at the five twenty
seven mark, wailing up by one fourteen thirteen Laker now

(24:36):
and she got pushed that time. That's two quick fouls
on the freshman Abbey Friends, who's just looking over to
Erica Brown saying what did I do? But a little
bit too aggressive with a bump in the back as
Harmony Laker was coming to the basketball in the inbounds.
That's her second team second of this quarter. On the imbounds,
Harmony Laker Joe penetration kick left side, thinking about the three,

(24:58):
but didn't take it. Was Wolf's skip back over right
side Charity Laker. Yes, the Laker sisters trying to counter
the sister of South Christian Nice jump down low, they
go high low Harmony Laker that time to sid Coorseki
and puts it up an inn.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Welly, Addie, Sikorski has been excellent in the second quarter.
She started the game but didn't get the ball in
the first quarter. Just keep beating Sikorski right now, she's
deadly down.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
There down low right block kicking opposite Abbey Prince. Airball
on the three on the feed that time from Bree
not and now not who got the rebound, draws the
reach in foul.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Excellent Joy by not wailing in that zone, right. You
know it's tougher to find a body on the midshot,
especially in an airball. Tough to rebound. Not right there
to get it and get the Sailors another possession.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
So Abby Prince with those two files, gonna check out
back in is Lily knits the senior for South Christian
sixteen thirteen Whaling buying three. As we roll under five
minutes left to go your first half. Sofia friends on
the baseline kicks at top of the key. Now they
tried to go high loa to counter for South Christian,
knocked away by the quick hands of Whaling, and here
come the Wildcats back on the attack. Is Laker brings

(26:02):
across the timeline, comes off the screen, right side, pull
back for three off the front of the ram, rattles
out battle for the rebound won by Sikorski and another
possession for Whalen. We talked about the offensive rebounds with
their size. Oh a bullet pass for Laker. Sikorski couldn't
handle it. It was out of bounds. It'll be South
Christian basketball. That one unforced good look by Laker, they
just couldn't convert.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Yeah, but I like how active Sikorski is down there,
able to get the offensive rebound, get the ball back outs.
On the other end, Whalen doing a good job defensively
right now on Sophia Prinz and Lizzie waldheis.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Oh, nice flash to the right elbow and knocking it
down this South paw of that time Cameron boons to
the senior. She just flashed nice pass for the right
corner and she was opened for the fifteen footer.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Big time by Boonstra coming off the bench tonight. Played
really well so far early and with Whaling overplaying those
two leading scores for South, they need somebody to step up.
Boocher's been doing it.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
The bigs coming up to help against the pressure for Whaling,
against the full court pressure of South Christian. Kick opposite
Laker three ball way off the mark that time by
Charity Laker or younger sister. Rebound cleared by South Christian
up to Helmes Helmas cross cord past the Sophia Prinz.
Their point guard brings it down, tries to go up,
knocked away a little contact, but they let them play

(27:15):
on with Sikorski and the Sailors will retain possession as
Lizzie woldheist checking in, checking out will be lily Nits.
And again keep an eye on this, and you wonder
if the rotation a little bit quicker because they played
just last night for Erica Brown. Trying to keep fresh
legs out there.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
And the good part about it is Hou's got a
lot of third deep team. They've got a lot of
players that can help, and they're using them all here
playing back.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
To back helmets on the inbounds, trying to set up Wold.
Heis in the left corner, still can't dial in the
three ball here from Whaling Tonight off the front rim
rebound Wildcats Harmony Laker with a euro step through No
keeps it alive. The sophomore puts it up an in
or just check back in Lauren boltzmut.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Well that time the ball bounced the Wildcat's way and
the six to three sophomore was able to be in
the right spot at the right time and get that
one to go.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Nice feed in the middle Sophia Friends unable to knock
down that fifteen footer was Cameron Boonstra rebound Whaling won
and done for South Christian Laker off the high screen.
Nothing there off the screen from Baltimore to the top
as she's on the head of the Wildcat here dribbling
right side down the lane, scoop shot Laker, yes to
the foul. So creative that time. Instead of going high,

(28:26):
she went around the defender underneath her and gotta go
with a soft touch off the window and was fouled.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Yeah, Lakers, just a tough guard. They listed at five
to eleven. I think she's all of that, maybe closer
to six foot, but really can play the one. I
mean she can handle, she can drive, she can absorb
contact and still score like she did that time. Just
a really tough matchup.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
I'm gonna give her dad some credit here, just like
her dad uses her body real well. Lance Laker played
at Grand Valley State. He's kind of got that thick
body to him, but he's got the handle. He could
shoot the three, good vision, good passer, and obviously she's
the spark plug and the senior leader to get him
going and converts the free throw. Big three point play.
Now it's a six point lead for the Wildcats.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, biggest lead for either team at this point in
South Christian Here. He needs to buckle down in this
last two forty of the quarter. They don't want to
find themselves slipping any further behind me.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Before the break, Wildcats extending out to two to three
matchups on and now oh a silly reaching found the
back court committed by Izzy Johnson. After they got the deflection,
South Christian had to go back and get it. Two
thirty eight left to go. Stay with us at halftime
for the host Jempson Physical Therapy halftime show. We'll have
a rapid radio scoreboard, let you know what's going on,
including the big matchup of the Big ten tonight, Top

(29:37):
twenty five is Michigan down app per due coming up
on wood radio. Helmus feeding the post on the left side.
Now the double team coming over and we have a
reach and fower, just a deflection out of bounds as
they fed the post at time South Christian to knits.
They're gonna say, just knocked out of bound South Christian
and there's the impound. Sophia Prinz beats her defender and

(29:58):
the little runner I like that part of her game
from twelve knocks it down on the baseline.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Yeah, Prince can do it all three levels. She can
shoot the three, hasn't got a look yet tonight. She
can hit the mid range and she can get all
the way to the rim as well. And that time
it was the little runner from twelve feet That got
it done.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
He almost got the deflection of the back court with
the pressure, couldn't get the steal. Laker brings in the
front court. Now bodies hit the deck as the ball
is down low on the floor, wide open for three
unable to knock it down. Iszzie Johnson from the right
wing rebound South Christian up ahead, Sophia Prian's beautiful feed
up and in off the rebound. And how about the
past that time by Cameron Boonstra.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Sofia Prince wears number twelve. She might want to change
it to thirty two. She looks a little like Karl
malonaut there somehow. She's always farther down the court than
anybody else and getting these easy ones.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
And that's going to force a time out as it's
a two point game with one fifty four left to
go here in the first half. Twenty one, nineteen, whaled
hope you're enjoying it this early edition on the girls
side of the LMCU High School Basketball Game of the Week.
Britt the ket along with Jason Nutt and Joe Arritt,
now in the controls executive producer at in Studio, host
coming up at halftime. Joe'll take you through all this

(31:02):
stuff courtesy of Rapid Radios and also what's coming up tomorrow.
Michigan State gonna be in action at Rutgers over on
Big one to one point three FM. We mentioned number
twenty one Michigan at number eleven Perdue. How about the
boiler Makers midweek got beat at home, snapping their home
winning streak by Ohio States. So you know they're gonna
be out for blood in a big game for Michigan
if they could win on the road in West Lafayette,

(31:24):
having to be an eight o'clock tip locally tvise on
Fox seventeen at seven to thirty, pre game Onwood Radio.
That's all coming up in more with the Rappid Radios scoreboard.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
Through the half, pretty had one of the longest home
winning streaks in the country. Did that just get snapped?

Speaker 1 (31:39):
Yeah, Ohio State? Yeah, midweek the buck guys and they
were down sixteen in that game and came back here
final two minutes of the first half twenty one nineteen
Wayland over South Christian beat the pressure the big gal
Baltimoa kicks it right side in harmony Laker dribble It
offer foot and out of bounds. Good defense by South Christian.

(32:01):
I think Lakers should have taken the three there after
the kickout. It's a good job by the extra pass
by Boltzma and.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
A good good job by Cammy Bootscher defensively. I mean
le As I mentioned, Laker is a tough guard, and
she was physical with her that time and forced the turnover.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Here's Helmus left wing dribbling gets to the top, all
beautiful backside as Cameron Boonstraw I tell you, she is
deadly right at the free throw line against that two
three matchup zone that time, finding her teammate on the
backside and Lily Nitz.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Listen, we gotta play thirty two minutes to decide to
win her and a player of the game. But right
now South Christian's best player has been Cammy Boonstra.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Deep three Harmony Laker out near the top of the
Wildcat twenty four to twenty one. That's what the senior
can do. Not afraid to take the big shots.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
That's huge. You know, both teams have struggled tonight from
deep and that was a big one for a Laker
as she stops a six zero Sailor.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Run Sophia Brand's out top between the rings, bounce pass
left wing to Helmus A can't stated that extended two
three matchup zone whaling right side to answer Lizzie waldheyes
for fifty dollars for kids food basket with our baskets
for kids could to see of LMCU.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Yeah, and that was big times. There's a tough foul
out Sophia prins eighty five feet from the basket. But
that was a big time from Lizzie. Because Lizzie's a player.
South Christian looks too to score right and Whalen's paying
her some extra attention so that maybe that one will
get her going right there.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Sofia Prince picking up that file, that's her second wise
by Erica Brown to get her out before the half.
Don't want her pick up her third final thirty seven
seconds of the first half.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
So Fia Prince rarely comes out when the team's up
thirty and the fourth arter is about it. She's always
on the floor for South Christians, so they gotta get
through this last thirty seconds here without her.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
Here's the freshman Charity Laker running the point. She throws
it away. She thought her player was cutting out against
the Matchupsode of South Christian stated, and she just threw
it into the crowd. So now Whalen going to counter charity,
gonna come out only a freshman, she's going to be
a good one. And coming in is Kaylee Loune, junior
guard for Whaleen. She'll be on the top of that

(33:59):
two to three zone along with Lanny Wolf. Here's Meredith
Helmets running the point. Meredith kicks right side Whalehouse waldheis
left side, firing for three. That's way off the mark,
but the rebound by South Christian was there. Natalie woldheis
Lily NT's trying to finish, couldn't in amongst the trees.
Now Laker with a step in from five seconds left,

(34:22):
and that's the way the half is gonna end. Harmony
I think had a little more time than she thought,
just trying to get it up on the glass, but
it was shorts And after one half of play, we're
right where we started, twenty four a piece South Christian
and Whalen looking forward to the second half.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Jay, Yeah, I don't think we're surprised. Where else would
we be. I mean these teams are very evenly matched.
Whaling a little taller, South Christian a little faster, and
each has used what they can do to their advantage.
At this point, it's been closed, whaling up by six.
At one point South came storming right back. Each team's
leading scorer hits a big three there late in the quarter,
and you know we got sixteen minutes left to decide

(35:01):
this thing.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Twenty four to twenty four South, Kristen and Whalen on

Brought to you by MKDE Funeral Homes with Jason.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
Nutt, Sophia Prinz led South Christian with ten points, but
of course she picked up two fouls sat the final
thirty eight seconds of the first half. Meredith Helmets, to
sophomore who got to start tonight, has six points. Lizzie Waldheights,
the team's leading scorer, has four. She had a big
three there in the final ninety seconds of the half.
Lily Nitz has two and Cammy Boonstra has two. For Whalen,
they are led by their leading scorer. How many Laker

(39:05):
averages fifteen games. She got eleven in the first half
to lead all scores, and Eddie Sikorski. They're six foot
one inch junior six points. Lady Wolf had three, Marissa Ainsworth,
a sophomore point guard, with two, and Lauren Baltimore, the
six y three sophomore, also with two.

the locker room. Brought to you by Vandalon holmemprovement. We'll
start with South Christian.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Yeah, the Sailors. I think they need to keep Sophia
prints on the floor. You gotta watch her files. Two
You're okay, sixteen minutes to play and continue to run
the ball through the high post. I would expect we
see more Cammy Boonstra in that spot for Whalen. They
need to take care of the basketball. If I'm Wes Hudson,
I'm gonna have thirty three my best player, Harmony Laker Again,

(40:00):
that South Christian Press having the ball end.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
All right, there you go. Vandali on home Improvement second

(40:23):
game of the Week. We were snowed out this past
Tuesday with Northview and South Christian. And by the way,
if you missed that score, it was Norview getting the win.
In that one. Congratulations fifty seven to fifty five to
the wildcast.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
What a game. I was able to watch it, and
I'll tell you what Cam Ryan's with thirty one. He
was outstanding in that game. Brady Swartz didn't have his
best game, but then hits the game when he shot
in the final seconds through at Carson Biss standing down
there under behind the Whale bench right now, thirty eight points.
Last night a new career. He hit thirty eight of
South Christian's fifty five. He was unconscious he hit a
three to tie it with eight seconds to go.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
How crazy we were supposed to it Tuesday night. We
were all set to do it Wednesday night, even with
our staff postponed, and then last night we had red
Wings hockey. Couldn't do it, but a great game and
South Christian Boys were playing the Whaling Boys in the
second night, second game of this Friday night doubleheader coming
up after this one, way a little start with the
basketball to start the second half, moving right to left
on your radio. Down we'll reset your supporting you second

(41:20):
half starting lineups for both South Christian and the Wildcats.
Lady Wolf to inbounds gets you to harmony Laker. Also
in there is Addie Sikorski, Marissa Ainsworth and Baltimove got
the start tonight, the six to three sophomore in their
home white with the gray numbers and the green trim.
Harmony Laker dribbles right side off a high screen. Nothing there,

(41:41):
good defense by South Christian going man to man, kick
out top wide open with a look for three. Unable
to knock it down that time was Ainsworth. Wildcats get
the offensive rebound though dig it back out. Laker will
fire three right in front of the bench. No off
the back heel long carum and ooh, I thought she
might have saved it. They say she stepped on the line,
did Ainsworth. It's gonna be South Christian basketball either way.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
It was going right to Cammy Boucher was gonna be
South Christian boss. So a couple of looks at three
that time for whaling against the tough South Christian manner man,
both a little deep and both a little off.

Speaker 1 (42:11):
Lizzie waldheis she had to go going that time. The
three from the corner hits the side of the backboard.
Rebound Harmony Laker, So it's Lizzie woldheist Sophia Prince starting
the second half. Meredith Helms who got the start tonight
as a dubal penetration by Laker and tie ball situation.
Great job by Cameron Boonstraw getting the second half start

(42:32):
along with Lily Nitz.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
Who else Kammy Butcher has two points. But come on,
if you're watching the game, she's doing a little bit
of everything for South right now. Excellent defensive play that
time because Laker tough when she puts ball in the deck.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Don't want to scored yet in the first minute of
play here at this third quarter, and now losing it
off her leg out of bounds was knits for South
christ in the corner. Now we're gonna have a conference
of the officials. We had this earlier where they changed
the call. See if the official closer to it saw
it off of whaland.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Does not appear the usually way, have that conversation they
changed it. I honestly thought it was the right call.
I thought Harmony Laker did a really good job and
she was able to deflect the ball off of Nitz's leg.
I thought it was the right call. They did not
change it.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
Little full court pressure like we saw two two one
for South Christian to bother Whalan They get Harmony Laker
right at the free throw, I should say at the
mid court line open she turns in fires in an
extra pass. Sikorski tried to feed Boltimore down low, couldn't
hang on to the pass as they beat the pressure
over the top and it's a turnover in favor of

(43:41):
South Christian. Now kicking opposite against the Whalen pressure looking
for three too strong on it on the triple try,
was nits in the left corner long carem on the
rebound and unable to get it as she stepped down
the sideline with Sikorski for whaling.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Well, so of Coursky did a great job going to
get that long care but her foot slip. She went
to plant and the foot just slid all the way
out of violence.

Speaker 1 (44:02):
Tough break, Sofia prins out top whaling Man demand pressure defense.
Now mixing it up as you said they would do
all night, long and long with South Christian Harmony Laker
stepping into the passing lane as Prince tried to get
it to woldheist in the right corner knocks it away.
Sailors to trigger on the near sideline. Still yet for
anyone to score. This third quarter tied at twenty four.

(44:23):
We played over a minute and a half in this
third quarter. Sofia Prince offset right, hands off to Meredith
Helmus Helmets over the top. Nice screen that time by
boonstri couln't for yourself back to Prince. Good look at
a three from the right wing. No flying in for
the rebound and trying to put it up all one
motion was nits. Left it short, Wildcats dig it out,
Harmony Laker pushes ahead in the right corner. Ainsworth dribble,

(44:46):
drive on the baseline and offer legging out of bounds.
Could knock away that time by Meredith Helmets.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
I like what Whalen's doing. Oh interesting, I thought that
South Christian knocked that out of bounce. How could that be?

Speaker 1 (44:57):
They said it knocked off of Ainsworth's leg as she
went baseline triple try good look at it beating The
pressure of that time was nits. And I tell you what.
South Christian's had some good looks from three, which is
a part of their game. Unable to knock them down
consistently here tonight, and.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
Neither team has been able to get one to go
through the hoop here in the second half is they've
had kind of some bad luck on some good looks.

Speaker 1 (45:16):
Harmedy Laker being bothered defensively by Nits, who's doing a
great job. Now they switch on her as she kicks
in the right corner and having all kinds of trouble
handling the basketball. That time is Ainsworth in the corner.

Speaker 2 (45:28):
By that time, they called Helmets for the overplay. They
called her for a foul. I Gray agree with you.
I thought it was gonna be another whaling time.

Speaker 1 (45:34):
I did too. Ainsworth is just having trouble hanging on
to her when she dribbles it, losing it. But you're right, Meredith,
Helmet picks up the personal you got.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
Remember she's a sophomore. And also she's kind of getting
her the ball in the corner, which is a really
tough spot to beat.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
Oh look at the lobs of Corski. Oh good look,
no off the back iron. South Christian just kind of
fell asleep that time of the inbounds.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
Yeah, nobody, good shots, Nobody get them to go. Nothing's
going in. Somebody get the lid off the bucket down there.

Speaker 1 (46:00):
Sophia Franz brings in the front court. Now throws over
the top left side to helmets, back to Prince. They
feed the high post. No one's there, turn around jumper
unable to knock it down from about twelve feet was
Cameron Boonster. She hit one of those earlier, and I
tell you what if they can get her consistently to
do what she did, square up and knock it down.
It's been open all night long.

Speaker 2 (46:19):
It has been. That was another good shot that didn't
go in. That's been happening on both ends here in
the second half. But I like what Whalan's doing in
their zone landing Wolf at the head of that zone.
She is overplaying Prince's left. You've got to make Prince go.

Speaker 1 (46:31):
Right full court pressure and a Wildcat player fell down
at the timeline a late whistle on that as South
Christian had to steal. Erica Brown can't believe it. She's like,
we had a four on one, but they're saying, that's
why you got this steal is hitting the deck was
laany Wolf, And they're gonna call a push on the backside.
Who are they gonna call it on? It's gonna be

(46:52):
Cameron Boonstra and that's her second So foul trouble starting
to build a little bit for South Christian.

Speaker 2 (46:58):
Lay With these new rules of resetting the bowels after
each quarter, you don't see a lot of bonus, but
both teams have been very close to it in every
quarter so far.

Speaker 1 (47:05):
Harmony Laker misses the runner, wailing coaching staff thought there
was a foul. She was hit on the risk, no call, helmets, penetrates,
kicks out, good look. Lizzie woldece for three for the
right wing. Finally the cover is off for South Christian.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Well, you knew somebody was gonna make a shot in
this half and Lizzie Wolde heist is maybe the best
shooter out there, certainly in the conversation of it, and
she got a really good look and she did not
miss it.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
And what happens when you hit on the offensive end
pick up the defense. They almost got the steal there
waldheis knocking on a bounds, unable to save it. Was
her teammate just checking in. That's Abbey Prince and now
the runner by Laker getting a good look from six.
Good box out that time by the freshman. Abbey Prince.
She'll bring it up herself. Kicks right side to Helmes,
the sophomore helmets on the dribble penetration kickout and Sophia

(47:50):
Prince getting a look. Can't do it as it's off
the front of the rim and on the box out
at that time with Sikorski, they're gonna get Abby Prince
over the back.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
That's her third and the third on the team in
this quarter. Were still four to twenty three to play,
so only one more foul to give in this quarter
for the Sailors. But Whaling right now they got to
get a shot to go in a hoop.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
Ohing Harmony Laker just I think she fell asleep, wasn't
expected to pass back from Ainsworth against the pressure, and
it went off her leg out of bounds. Unforced turnover,
uncharacteristic of whealand as now check it in, Boltzimog will
come out as Izy Johnson the senior card. Whaling going

(48:33):
a little smaller here. Four seventeen left to go and
we've had just one bucket combined in this second half,
and it was a three by woldtheiss now dribbling to
find herself free, knocking it down from the free throw line.
She loves that little jumpers Cameron boonstro.

Speaker 2 (48:47):
Well that time she didn't get it at the high post.
She got it closer to the wing. Two dribbles to
her spot and drilled it.

Speaker 1 (48:53):
Now traveling shuffling her feet was Harmony Laker against the pressure.
South Christian fans were calling it out and they get
to travel, so South Christian forced another turnover. W they're
pressure and that's going to force a Wes Hudson time
out to kind of settle his club down three poin
fifty nine left to go on the third and it's
a thirty second time out. We'll keep it right here.

(49:14):
To remind you, this third quarter is being brought to
you by Kids Food Basket, our official nonprofit for the
LMCU High School basketball Game of the Week again this
year for the third season, baskets for kids every three
point or May during our Game of the Week broadcast
boys or girls total for both teams fifty dollars for
each of them, courtesy of NFCO donation to Kids Food Basket,

(49:35):
nourishing local kids to reach their full POTENSI.

Speaker 2 (49:38):
Well, let's take a look at some scores going on
around here. Catholic Central Forces Northern Girls two really good teams.
Catholic Central gets it done in the ok White fifty
three to forty. That'll put the Cougars alone in first place.
And how about right here in the Oka goals unbeaten
West Catholic got their hands for right now to Wyoming.
It's fifty four to forty seven. Late in the third
quarter of Wolding was just within four a minute ago.

Speaker 1 (49:58):
Little scoreboard watching here, okay, goal, which we both think
is the deepest division when it comes to girls basketball,
help us with a drive down the left side. Couldn't
quite finish with the left hand. Little contact there now,
bodies hit the deck going for the rebound. And who's
it gonna be? It was Sikorski down there, tied up
with Wold. Heisa Happy Prince was in the area. Remember

(50:19):
she's playing with three still out there for Erica Brown
twenty seven to twenty four. And they're gonna say tie
ball possessionaire in favor of Whaling's.

Speaker 2 (50:29):
All right, Whaling's down five, right, they're over four minutes
without a point. I'm gonna get the ball to Addie Sikorski.
I'm gonna try to get it to her in the
painted area in this possession. But they can't even get
it across.

Speaker 1 (50:37):
That court now with steel. So for your prince, oh,
she couldn't finish Homedy Laker with a long pass out
after the rebound and unable to take advantage of it.
Was is he Johnson? Because South Christian was late coming back,
Laker fakes the three, gets it to Johnson left side.

Speaker 2 (50:52):
That was the perfect chance to get it to Sikorski.

Speaker 1 (50:55):
Is he Johnson now on the drive and as she
went up, looked like a cleaned Cameron Booster. Couldn't believe
they're gonna call it where they hit across the arm
though might have got a little bit with the body
underneath too.

Speaker 2 (51:07):
Yeah, had to have been with the body look pretty
good up top.

Speaker 1 (51:10):
Twenty nine to twenty four our score. I think the
biggest lead for Whaling in this game was six. This
is the biggest lead for South Christian in five.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
Well, if you go back to that six point lead,
it was twenty one to fifteen. It's a fourteen to
three South Christian run. If we go all the way
back to middle of the second quarter and they're Whaling
finally ends the scoring street instead on a field goal
in this quarter?

Speaker 1 (51:29):
Is he Johnson? Nothing a nylon on the free throw.
Harmony Laker gonna get a few seconds of a breather
on the bench, as Whaling is gonna get Ray Stallard,
the junior in Sikorski will check out with three twenty
four left to go one the third, one more coming
up for Izzy Johnson. Charity Laker back in the lineup
for West Hudson and the Wildcats knocking it down. Nice

(51:52):
job by Asy Johnson. You're right, that's the only two
points so far this third quarter, twenty nine, twenty six
one possession game in favorite South Christian. They've got the
best go with three twenty and ticking in the third
Meredith Helmets and now and extended trapping defense in the
half court by Whalen Helmets, dribble penetration, the top bounce
pass over to Sophia Prianz, extra pass to the quarter
air ball on the three attempt by Lily Nits rebound

(52:13):
cleared out of there by Styler. Up ahead Lady Wolf
out of Charity Laker brings it across the timeline herself
does the freshman hands off to the sophomore young group
out there for Wes Hudson. Marissa EANs, we're a strong
move in the left hand. No, but is fouled and
who's it gonna be. I think they're gonna get Lily
Knits for South Christian. And that is the fifth team

(52:38):
foul to zero this quarter against Whalen.

Speaker 2 (52:41):
Yeah, it's interesting, Harmony Lakers played the entire game. She
is out right now, she's not in foul trouble.

Speaker 1 (52:47):
I think, just trying to give her a little breather
if they can.

Speaker 2 (52:50):
You're right though, that's it. Where are you going offensively
right now? If you're whaling? And Marissa aans Worth give
her credit. She went and put her head down with
right to the bucket. She got free throws out and
how big is that?

Speaker 1 (52:59):
The Wildcats knocking down their free throws when they're getting
these opportunities. In the third quarter, brattles the second one home,
so Eansworth gets them both and it's a one point game.
They've cutting this lead without their leading scorer in the.

Speaker 2 (53:10):
Game, and they still don't have a field goal on
the corner. But they're down just.

Speaker 1 (53:13):
One nice speed in the middle. That's Breed not and
now Erica Brown I think wants to settle her club
down as she's seen her lead a back rate to
one two forty three left to go third quarter, full
time out, So we'll step aside as well. South Christian
twenty nine Waalimb twenty eight on this girl's edition of
the LMSU High School Basketball Game of the Week on

(53:34):
ninety six to one.

Speaker 13 (53:35):
The game, Hey Grand Rapids, are you ready for back

Speaker 1 (53:50):

Speaker 13 (53:51):

Grandville and Holland hit the bugs with drifted looks this
year at Uptown Chiefs game.

Speaker 12 (54:10):
In the nine to six won the game Studios jointing
with a rapid radio scoreboard on the girls side in
the third quarter aland down, leading Coopersville thirty five two
twenty six, and Rockford is now final day all over
West out of one reversal of numbers, Rockford.

Speaker 14 (54:24):
Defeated West out of seventy one two seventeen.

Speaker 1 (54:27):
It's head back to Bret Pachita and Jason hu.

Speaker 8 (54:31):
Harb Tea up.

Speaker 2 (54:32):
Twenty six points.

Speaker 1 (54:32):
Last I was just gonna say, had a big win,
only give up nine points to Byron's center the other
night in the victory. Folks, get out and watch the
Rams if you can. They're that good as far as
girls basketball in West Michigan one of the top teams
in the states regardless of the division.

Speaker 2 (54:50):
Wait, how they get CNA wolfback after.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
The time out? South christ who the one point lead?
Good one here twenty nine, twenty eight, two thirty and
Tickeul left to go in to the third quarter. Sophia
Pitts dribbles around a defender, gets runner No off the
back heel, but she will draw the contact. Is he
Johnson just couldn't get in front of her? And I
tell you what, friends, is what you want in a
point guard. Not only is it tougher because she's left handed,
you're not used to that as far as defending, But

(55:13):
she does a great job with her angles of how
she sets up the defender and just finds a way
to get around him and get to the basket and
draw that contact.

Speaker 2 (55:21):
Well, she's left handed and she wears number twelve. She
just kind of reminds you a little bit of your
former partner.

Speaker 1 (55:28):
Wow, he's probably listening to that Drew Knight sell, that's
high praise, so Fio. Though unlike Drew missed her first
free sale, he didn't miss many free throws. Got the
second Hill, did the gritty Junior thirty twenty eight. The
lead is too Whylan trying to beat the pressure. Harmony

(55:48):
Laker back in at the time out, gets in the
front core kicks over her younger sister. Charity couldn't dial
up the three too strong out the backgrod boy, that
looked good, but Jarney stays with it and from her
knees got the kick but was fouled while she was
on the ground with an offensive rebound.

Speaker 2 (56:03):
I can hear my dad thirty years ago. Follow your shot, yep,
that's what That's what Charity did right there. She just
went and got her own rebound and now she's gonna
get free throws because bonus.

Speaker 1 (56:13):
Boy, how big have the free throws spent in the
final situation? Though for Whaling in his third quarter.

Speaker 2 (56:18):
Well that in the defense because while they haven't made
a field goal, they have only allowed six points to
South Christian. This could have gotten away from Whaling. Have
they not played well on the other end of the court.
As well.

Speaker 1 (56:29):
Tough shooting night for the freshman. How many freshmen and
younger sisters in this game with the two rosters combined. Charity,
the younger sister of Harmony the senior second free throw,
got it though, stayed with it good composure to make
it a one point game again. Thirty twenty nine two
and change left to go here third quarter, Yeah, Witalent
picking up full court pressure.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
You see Ainsworth overplaying friends on the left here. Gotta
make her go right and that's what she's trying to do.
Prince can't go right, but she's just so much better
going left.

Speaker 1 (56:57):
Hey, if you play for the Hudson family, you better
be able to pressure ninety four defensively. You gotta get
after him and right now. Good battle going on with
Ainsworth and Prance. Now while top of the basketball between
the circles is lillly. Knitch gives it back to friends
running the wildcat head and.

Speaker 2 (57:12):
Boiling and the man and man as they continue to
the chess match. They played a lot of his own tonight.

Speaker 1 (57:16):
Gold heis nice job getting bothered by Charity Laker defensevely
now here comes to trap with Harmony in the corner.
Own you got the hands and nice job deflecting off
of Lily Nitch who didn't see her coming from the backside.
That's that wildcat pressure defense we've been talking about.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
Oh wow, they're gonna give Erica Brown a time out.
West Hudson's gonna lose his mind.

Speaker 1 (57:38):
Wow, so is his dad, Mike, who's on his stand.

Speaker 2 (57:42):
I can't. I don't know if I've seen that.

Speaker 1 (57:45):
Well, here was the situation, and we don't know because
we were watching the corner. The official that was right
in front of both coaches came over and said she
got a time out, which obviously we weren't watching because
in the far corner nearest to us. So it's actually
a good piece of officiating because again we couldn't see it.
I know that Wes Hudson probably had a view of it,

(58:06):
but he was probably watching what we were, which was
on the opposite side of the court.

Speaker 2 (58:10):
Yeah, there are those that would argue that the coach
maybe should be allowed to bail out.

Speaker 1 (58:14):
Yeah, there's in that situation.

Speaker 2 (58:15):
But the bottom line is, across basketball levels, that is
the way the rules stated, and right.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
There is big because it saves South Christian possession. Is
he Johnson's confused, but she doesn't realize that there was
no deflection. The timeout came first.

Speaker 2 (58:34):
Nobody knows what's going on, and all the Whalen players
are trying to take it out.

Speaker 1 (58:36):
I think Whaleen was trying to steal possessionaire that's all right.
Now it's full court pressure. No one's back for Whalen.
Now South Christian's going this out. You're right, my bad.
At first I was well because I saw is see
Johnson take off, and I'm like, wait to brock, Yeah, exactly,
Glad you're with me, partner one twenty six and Tike
you left to go this. We do know it's been
tooth and nail, a great game all the way through.

(58:58):
It as a one point game. Meredith helm strivers down
the lane, strong finish, Yes, said one got bumped his shoe,
one up and how about the sophomore Meredith Helms trying
to convert a three point play here for South Christian.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
Remember she was really good in that first quarter and
then kind of had heard much from her, but that
was a huge play that time. Put it on the deck,
get all the way to the room, get the finish
and a free.

Speaker 1 (59:20):
Throw, getting the start tonight she had fourteen last night.
They win for Northew was talking Erica Brown as they
were coming in off the bus here at Whalen. She
knows that I have a connection with Meredith going back
aways and said, hey, Meredith had a great game last
night and they had a lot of production with a
lot of different people. Harmony Laker. Now can't get it

(59:43):
to go. Helmas did miss the free throw, couldn't convert
the three point play, and now the Wildcats on the
attack down three thirty two twenty nine, final minute of
the third quarter. Ainsworth rippling off a high screen from
Stallard get to the Johnson Johnson wild Runner almost dropped
rebound Helms as it popped out. Helmus with her head up,
full head of steam down the lane all the way,

(01:00:04):
finishes with the right hand. Meredith Helmas coming on here
late in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
Excellent job by Helmus going coast to coast and nobody
stopped her and she just kept going until she got
to two and Whaling got two shots that time. And
they still can't get a field goal in this quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
Harmony Laker with an answerteep three rack up another fifty
dollars for kids food Basket it's thirty four to thirty two.

Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
Well there you go. I just shoot the twenty five
footer and finally Whaling with their first field goal of
the quarter in the final thirty seconds of the third
and they're down.

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
Just a dude trying to answer waldheist with a three
no too strong rebound, Shorty Laker. Final eleven seconds of
the third quarter, they get it to Ainsworth across the
timeline down the right side. Ainsworth to the rack and
we're gonna have a whistle and a foul. Double dribble, Oh,
double dribble against Ainsworth working against Helms.

Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
You like the attack, and this is what we've seen
from Whaling. They are attacking and maybe taking some wild shots. Call,
but they're trying to get free throw because they're in
the bonus here and I like their aggressiveness. But boy,
another turnover.

Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
Five point two seconds left to go into the third quarter,
got to go the full length of the floor, but
they have time. South Christian by two, and what has
been a whale of a ball game of this Okay
gold showdout Charity Laker checking out back in for the
final five seconds. Of course, here's Helmus across the timeline
Helmus gotta look at the clock, fires it at the buzzer,

(01:01:27):
No on the turnaround jumper from the free throw line,
and that's the way the flory of the third quarter ends.
After twenty four minutes of basketball here from Wildcats Jim
Nazu and Whalen Our score South Christian thirty four. Whalen
thirty two will come back with the final eight minutes
after this, as you're listening to the LMCU High School
basketball Game of the Week here on ninety six to
one the game.

(01:03:06):
Us now in the dribble penetration kicking out left side
that was so effective in the third quarter. Or she
would take this shot friends, now get it to her
younger sister Abbey trying to dribble around Harmony Laker and
knocked her away from behind. Here come the Wildcats back
down just two. Laker top of the key fires for three. Yes,
nothing but nylon and she's finding a group now Harmony Laker.

Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
Seventeen for Harmony Laker, back to back threes and just
like that, Whyland goes from no field goals in the
second half and a five point deficit to a one
point lead.

Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
Unbelievable this game, how tight it's been now trying to
feat Lizzie woldtheis was helmeus from the right wing triple
team and bodies hit the deck. A good sportsmanship by
Harmony Laker helping both her teammate Lady Wolf who went
down and Lizzie woldheis from South Christian. It will be
whistled against Wolf per second teams first of this quarter.
Remember they reset at the quarterbreak. As far as the

(01:03:58):
bonus situation, five fouls and then you're in the bonus
in a quarter. Left side triple try no good by
the South Palm Cameron Boonstro off the feed from Helmus.
It's a little bit too strong rebound whaling. Wildcat's definitely
good on the rebounding edge, especially on the offensive side.
Feet down low Sikorski and we have a whistle and

(01:04:20):
she didn't get it cleanly. And who are they gonna get?

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Abby Prince? They called Boonstra.

Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
I think it was Boonstra.

Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
You're looking rough, Bratt, Yeah, I thought it was Abby Prince.

Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
Well, Boonster was looking around like is it me? And
Erica Brown can't believe it. She's gonna have to make
a change to so boostraw Mark that down Jay six
fifty one left to go in the game, comes out
with their fourth personal and back in as the senior
Lily Knits. Now they feed it the laker. South Christian
just kind of fall asleep on the inbounds, saving it
from going out of bounds. That time was to landing
Wolf for whaling, but right to South Christian here comes

(01:04:53):
nich tries to kick it out to helms deflect out
of bounds, and well, I tell you what, you better
not pass the ball weak or far in this game
on either side because the defense has been that good.

Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Now that's been the case all game long. Is any
sort of weak pass is gonna be intercepted or reflected.
And there's been a lot of turnovers in this game.
But I thought Lillly Nits did a really nice job
down there, because it looked like Laker was gonna have
an easy one, but she was able to get just
enough of it to make Laker have to shoot it
off balance.

Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
Abby Prince got hit on the pridge of her nose.
She's gonna have to come out for a little bit
shaken up. And in for her is Natalie Woldheiss, fellow
freshman for South Christian. Out top Sophia Prince. They try
to hedge her and two Wildcats go down, but the
file is going to be against Ainsworth and say on
a grab against Sofia friends trying to fight through that screen.

(01:05:42):
Thirty five thirty four, Wildcats by one. This is what
it's been, folks. South Christian by one, eleven to ten
after the first quarter, tied to twenty four at the break,
and then thirty four to thirty two. South Christian by
two after three and now violce by South Christian on
the inbounds unforced turnover gives it back to Whaling.

Speaker 2 (01:06:05):
Yeah, Helmus just she didn't realize where she was and
she stepped on the half court line, which is a
violation over and back and Whale gets an extra possession.

Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
They get it into Sikorski in the front court, hands
off to Ainsworth, high screen by Stallard and down the lane.
No one picked her up. She missed it, followed by Sikorski. No,
but she's filed on the backside.

Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
My goodness, what a tough night. These both of these
teams are much better putting the ball in the hole,
and they've shown tonight because that time Ainswerth did a
great job of getting a round her defender, getting all
the way to the bucket, it couldn't finish in the
Sikorski looked like she had an easy one and she
couldn't get it to go.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
She will go to the free throw line for a couple.
It's been kind to Whala to get back of this
game of the second half, and they've been knocking down
their free throws to their credit. Addie Sikorski, that junior
gets the first Lily knits picking up her second personal
two files apiece. By the way, in this fourth quarter,
just underway six eighteen left to go in regulation. One
more come up for Sikorski, this fourth quarter being brought

(01:06:59):
to by Wing due name the best chicken wings in
West Michigan three plus years running. As Sikorski gets the
friendly role in drops and nails in both.

Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
Eight for Addie her first two here in the second half,
and all of a sudden it's an eight to ozho
Whalen run and the Cats are up three.

Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
You talked about that South Christian run and now like
you said, Whalen countering thirty seven thirty four Lizzie waldheis
freeze herself with a drible drive down the lane. No,
that one doesn't go from point blank Grange and now
is fouled another one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
I mean, Lizzie, these are really good players that are
having really good seasons. Good shot from Lizzie Wallace and
it just doesn't go in. But she stayed with it
and she'll get two free throws.

Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
Yeah, was now when she got the rebounds, when she
got the rebound, then was going back up fouled in
the act of shooting. And by the way, that is
going to be the third on Ray Stallard for Whalen.
Thirteen fouls. Well in, boy, I tell you what a
tough shooting night for normally one of their better shooters,
especially from behind the arc. I think she's thirty seven
percent Lizzie waldheis misses the first free throw.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Yeah, Whalen using the free throw line to kind of
crawl back into it when they couldn't score. South Christian
need to make some hay it's free thrown as well.

Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
Lizzie settles down and hits the second two point game
thirty seven to thirty five, and here comes the two
to two to one full court pressure Harmony Laker on
the backside this time gotta get across the time light
they do Sikorski but got it script Sophia Prince now
up ahead, lays it up and in credit hurt for
the steal and a good pass I had that time
by Lily Knits.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Yeah, excellent job by Nits. It looked like Sikorski was
gonna get through that double team, but Knit's just able
to get enough of it to deflect it away. And
Sophia Prince is so good at running out and getting
those easy ones.

Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
Wes Hudson, afraid of a ten second violation, just got
the time out there. It will be a full time out,
so we'll take it as well. Five thirty five left
to go on this one, we're tied at thirty seven.
Apiece South Christian and Whalen and a girls edition of
the LMCU High School Basketball Game of the Week here
run ninety six to one the game.

Speaker 3 (01:08:56):

Is a big Natalie Wollheist three. The Freshman us South
Christen to regain the lead for the Sailors forty to
thirty seven and now both teams have turned it over
with traveling calls, so South Christian gets it back on
the attack. Movie left right any ready now wide open?
Look as they swing it around unable to knock it
down from the top was Cameron Bootster again battle for
the rebound? Is he Johnson and what we have.

Speaker 8 (01:13:24):

Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
We apologize with our technical difficulties. Hopefully we got everything
square away and two point fifty four left to go
in this one because we were off as we were
asking for the wing doozy fan of the game. I
will throw it out there again, so caller eight to
our studio lines six, one, six, four, five, four, thirty seven,
seventy six. As the free throw rounded out, no good

(01:17:19):
by Lily Knits rebound Whalen.

Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
Yeah, some prints had to come out, so go a throwaway.
Sofia Prince scored and got fouled, but she cramped up
and they are still tending her on the sideline. So
at eighty two, over eighty two percent for the free
throw line. She was unable to shoot that free.

Speaker 1 (01:17:34):
Throw and unable to knock it down. Four was Lily
Knits now on the back court, help us with a
basketball game caller eight six, one six, four five four
thirty seven seventy six, good luck and we'll announce our
wing doozy fan of the game coming up in our
post game show.

Speaker 2 (01:17:48):
Whalen's got five team fouls, so Sal's gonna shoot the
rest of the game. And right now, down two possessions
is whaling with two and a half to go.

Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
Helm us over to Wald heighs, spakes the three, then
steps back as she made the defender flying by knock
it down. It's been a tough shooting nut, as you
mentioned for her, especially now Harmony Laker back the other
way lost the handle and tipped out of bounds. It's
gonna be off of South Christian. They say, last touch
by Lily Knit, so it'll stay to our left. Boy,
what a ball game here, two eighteen left, going regulation

(01:18:17):
back and forth, We've gone with lead changes galore forty
three thirty nine. Right now South Christian leads it by four,
but Wildcats with the basketball Chody Laker gets it in
to Sikorski, hands off to Ainsworth. Ainsworth work against Helmets,
turns the corner right side, puts it up off the window.
Went good. What a move by Marissa Ainsworth.

Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
Yeah, Marissa Ainsworth, boy, she likes to put her head
down and go and she's really strong going to the
bucket and they need it. That was big time for Whalen.

Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
Helm's dribble penetration back the other way leaves in the
corner and the drive of the baseline, leaving it shortless.
Lily knits bothered. I think by the size of bolts.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
Yeah, that's that size of whale boltimate sixty three is
an imposing figure in there, and it's just not able
to get it go. Now Whalen's got it down just
two inside toomuch and it's a go big trip here
for the wildcat.

Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
Here's Ainsworth over the top of a big boltzimouth screen
and now trying to feed it to her teammate as
she cut down the lane. Knocked out of bounds. Good
defense by South Christian, But I like that little pick
and roll game with Boltimore Ainsworth.

Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
Only the third team foul on South Christian, so they
still have one to give Whalettle inbound.

Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
Oh, I thought they said it was knocked out about
You're right though, Meredith Helmets picking up her second one
thirty eight left to go on this one two point game,
forty three forty.

Speaker 2 (01:19:28):
One South Christian everything we could hope for, oh Man Ainsworth.

Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
They throw it out top between the rings. She's watched
by Boonstraw goes down the right side. No, Boonstra didn't foul.
Good job of keeping verticality and the rebound cleared out.
My Walde heights up ahead to Boonstra left wing, extra
passover Sophia Prim's back of the game for three. No
short up the front rim Meredith Helmets with a big
offensive rebound and coach ERICHA. Brown realized this a big

(01:19:54):
possession and to take a time out to thirty second
time out. Jane, we'll keep it right here.

Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Yeah, yeah, boy. Both teams playing hard right now. And
I thought Prince was gonna put the dagger in right there,
could have put him up five fresh off the bench.
Couldn't get it to go. But how about Helmets with
the offensive rebound. Both teams have attacked the offensive last
well here, so if Erica Brown. Remember the last time
they called time outs, they drew up the plan and
they ended up getting the freshman Natalie Waldeys with the
Big three to give South Christian the league. To this

(01:20:21):
point they have not relinquished. Be interesting to see what
Erica Brown's gonna drop here. I gotta imagine they're gonna
go back to Bootster at that high post and see
if they can't find a cutting Prince or Waldeys for
a three.

Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
Here's the Jason the Book cutting stat of the day
this series last ten meetings five and five. Who's gonna
break the tie in this one tonight one?

Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
How about that? Wes Hudson is ninety two and ninety
two as the head coach at Whalend, so he's either
gonna go one up or one down on that.

Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
If you missed it earlier, Wyoming to West Catholic Battley
top four teams were going head to head tonight. South
Christian and Whalen both stay at four to one division plays,
so this is big trying to they up with Wes
Catholic on the inbounds. They try to get into the
walheist knocked away by Charity Laker.

Speaker 2 (01:21:04):
It really is huge I mean, you know they're gonna
play again in February. We know they're probably gonna play
again in the district. But the loser of this game
is gonna go two games behind West Callo because the
Falcons did beat Wyoming sixty eight to fifty two. So
the winner stays within shouting distance.

Speaker 1 (01:21:17):
Booster trying to get the inbounds and did to Abby Prince,
a freshman, but she was stripped as she went up,
Abby checking into the last stoppage.

Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
I'll tell you what, Lauren Boltzman of the sophomore who
got her I think her first start tonight or one
of her first starts, has really stepped up, played well.

Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
Ainsworth around Sophia Prince is gonna defend her. No, but
on the rebound of temp file, so she went back up.
How big is the sophomore Lauren boltzma been.

Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
Yeah, she's been outstanding and now she's gonna go back
to the free throw line. Chance to tie this up
if she can make both. But just so active, you know,
I mean, it's one thing to be tall, but she
is active and playing really well to night.

Speaker 1 (01:21:53):
Six to three sophomore, lots of potential, don't forget to
stay with us once we're done here for the discount
to or post games. It's brought to you by Discount
Door and Grand Rapids providing services and installation since nineteen ninety.
Lauren Boltzman at the free throw line, which has been good.
And I Jinkster for whaling in the second half to
stay in this game. Remember when they couldn't get a
field goal to save themselves and they were knocking down

(01:22:16):
free throws Galore Boltimore too strong on the first off
the back iron, second one on the way, good looking
stroke around it out and what do we have lane
violation against the Wildcats and they'll give it back to
South Kristin anyways, why.

Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
Too big business misses that time in South with sixty
seconds to play, gets it back up to and boy,
I'm just gonna have to take care of the basketball
here right, can't turn it over. It's gonna come down
to who doesn't make the big mistake. Here down the stretch,
look for a trap.

Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
Here here comes Harmony Laker full court pressure man demand
Sophia Prince does over the top to Boonstra now left side.
Helmus swings at left corner. Waldheis playing a little keep away.
Remember no shock lock back out to Prince Prinz bodied
up by a Laker.

Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
If you're whaling you don't have to foul here. I'd
play another twenty seconds in defense at this.

Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
Point, Meredith Helmus. Nice job crossing turnover.

Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
Yeah, Helma's definitely traveled.

Speaker 11 (01:23:07):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
I think they gotta foul. They gotta file before she
went down on the deck with the basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
Oh wow, I did not see that.

Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
So it's gonna be against Boltsma trying to get in
your way as she went around Laker, and then it
was attacking like she's done all night, the sophomore Meredith Helmas.
And now some big free throws here, by the way
for Baltimo, that's her first mentioned. South Christian has been
in the bonus. Thirty seven point five seconds left. This
could make it a three point game on the way

(01:23:36):
rattles and pops out. Second one upcoming, So it's gonna
remain either way a one possession game.

Speaker 2 (01:23:43):
And even if she makes it in your up three,
Whalen does not need to shoot a three here. You
tack the basket, try to get two length in the game.
Certainly plenty of time left for thirty seven seconds.

Speaker 1 (01:23:54):
They're gonna get Boltsma out and go with some more
perimeter shooting. I think in ball Hendley with Izzy Johnson,
the senior coming in second one for Helmus, the sophomore
spins the ball on the way around it out again.
It was halfway down and popped out. Two point game.
Harmony Laker with a rebound cross the timeline watch by
Sophia Prince and yeah, they're gonna get friends. It's a
little bit too hands in and aggressive with the block

(01:24:17):
trying to guard Harmony Laker, and that's what Harmony wants.

Speaker 2 (01:24:21):
Remember, Prints had two fouls in the first half at
or just her third for the game now, so she
had not committed one at all in the second half
before there. But now what you want if you're the Sailors,
you don't want to give Laker a chance here to
tie this up without time coming off the clock.

Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
No, she wants to get the Charney strap and as
I say that, off the front of the rim and
pops out. Okay, thirty point seven seconds left.

Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
If you're wailing here, make her master, you're gonna press.
I don't think you need to foul until they cross
half court, hiway, I would make South Christian cross half court.

Speaker 1 (01:24:48):
Don't get the fowl here, Harmony gets a second and
now Waylan watched the steal and they get it. Ainsworth
knocked in off of Sofia Prims on the inbounds one
point game. The Wildcats haven't been back and now Wes
Hudson wants to talk things over with this offensive possession.
What a ballgame here tonight, twenty eight point nine seconds
left to go. Time out of the floor. Will step

(01:25:09):
aside as well. South Christian forty three, Whalen forty two.

twenty five dollars gift card go to see a wing doozy.

Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
All right, So, if you're Wes Hudson and Whalen, you're
gonna draw something up here, right, I know it. Everybody
thinks it's gonna be Harmony Laker. Right, she's your best player,
she's your D two bound headed to Cedarville. I would
love to see something here to Sikorski in the post.
I just I think she's been under utilizing this game.
I think she's super talented. And if they collapse, then
kick it out to Harmony Laker.

Speaker 1 (01:26:27):
Is he Johnson Dan bounds. They're counting, got a hurry,
they're laking in now. Sikorski flashes the left block double
team forces up no left it short, good defense by
Walt Heis, and now they have the rebound strown away,
kickout Laker for three two strong off the back yard
long care of Helmus has it and now trying to
driple out of traffic and she hits the deck in
his found.

Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
Wow, they're a flurry boy. I don't think it was
drawn up to go to Sikorski inside, but that's what
they ended up with. A really good shot. I loved it.
It was just a little bit short. They were able
to run down the rebound. How about Laney wolf Is
just kind of leaving it all out there, got it
out to Laker, who I thought rushed it a little bit.
They still had over twenty seconds, didn't get the shot
to go. And you talk about being physical and tough.

(01:27:10):
Helmus and these sailors they got They're getting hit out there,
and they're they're staying upright.

Speaker 1 (01:27:15):
Redemption here for the sophomore. She missed the last two,
but they both look good on the way. First one
rattles off the front of the rim. No good, it's
still a one point game. Forty three forty two South
Christian with fifteen point seven seconds left. What a front
and an edition of the girls LMCU High School Basketball
Game of the Week. Second free through on the way

(01:27:38):
for the sophomore rattles at home up the front of
the rim, makes it a two point game. Harmony Laker,
out of inbounds, throws it into Eansworth right in front
of the South Christian bench. They get it back to Laker. Laker,
now dribbling up the right side, beats her defender soft
touch up the window, no rebound, Meredith Helms trying.

Speaker 8 (01:27:57):
To hang on to it.

Speaker 1 (01:27:58):
Four seconds Wildcats had the whole They finally do it
two point six seconds left. Meredith Helmas took a shot
to her jaw. She's trying to walk this one off.

Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Well, Laker got free and she got a little caught
in between pulling up and getting all the way to
the rim, and she let it go on her runner.
It was a little bit strong and Whalen was going
after the board. But an excellent job by Meredith Helmets
of going and getting that ball. And now there's only
two point six seconds ago, So even if she doesn't
make either, it's still gonna be pretty tough for whale

(01:28:30):
In to score in the final two seconds.

Speaker 1 (01:28:31):
Who's gonna be Tonight's uptown cheapskate Offensive Player of the Game.
Our Montel Construction defensive player of the game. Plus we'll
play back for you our j D's Family Stores highlight
of the game. That's all coming up in the discount
door postgame show once we go. Finally here, Charity Laker
gonna come in now. That was the fifth foul on
the sophomore Marissa Ainsworth, who had to commit it. They
had a foul a time. Was this ticking away with

(01:28:53):
two point six seconds left, Meredith Helmas will try to
ice this one, and.

Speaker 2 (01:28:58):
You could maybe say it was a mistake. I thought
was I was doing a good job of trying to
take the ball away and eventually they commit the foul,
because so often you just see teams just go up
and push to give the foul, like if you're gonna file,
at least maybe try to get a steal. I thought
they did a good job.

Speaker 1 (01:29:11):
Too strong on the first. This is a big one
because this would make it a three point game. Remember
Lakers got a limited range second one for Helmus on
the way, nothing of a nylon for the sophomore as
South Christian was off the lane. What have they got?
He waved off the free throw. That we have a violation.

(01:29:37):
It would only be against Helmas, right she was only
one on the line.

Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
Yeah, you can't cross the free throw before the ball
is in the cylinder. I didn't see it, but they
are taking the free throw away at any rate. It's
still you'd rather be South Christian here, Whaleen's got to
go to the link to the court down to see
You almost have to have Harmony Laker inbound this right?
Who else can throw it that far?

Speaker 1 (01:30:02):
You want to run?

Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
Try to run a Christian layner against Kentucky play right?
Do you have Thomas Hill, Grant.

Speaker 1 (01:30:09):
Hill right right? Yeah, I agree with you, she's got
the strongest. I was trying to watch and figure out
what the call was. Are they saying that someone encroached
in the area because I didn't see Meredith Helms her
feet even move as far as going over the charity stride,
I didn't, And there was no one you saw. There
was no one on the lane for South christ and
they were all back, obviously trying to take away the

(01:30:31):
outlet pass on a miss.

Speaker 2 (01:30:32):
So they say someone came inside the three point line.

Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
Yeah, that's that's the only thing I could figure out.
I think that's why Erica Brown was trying to figure
out what the violation was there, so nonetheless wave off
the free throw that was made by Meredith Helms. It's
still a two point game, Jay, with two point six
seconds left, so you've got to throw this aways and
then who if.

Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
You are or you have Harmony Laker to take a
half court shot.

Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
Yeah, which looks like Izzie Johnson is going to be
their im bouncer.

Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
And if you're South Christian, you put two people on
Harmony Laker, right, somebody else has gotta beat you here.

Speaker 1 (01:31:05):
Harmony Laker is way down towards the end line, but
I think she's gonna try to loop around, let's see,
looking for a screen and now gets it in Harmony
Laker one gonna fire from half court. There is no
off the window and South Christian prevails on the road,
won to finish forty four forty two over Whalen. They

(01:31:25):
got a decent look, Jay, considering only two point six
seconds left, I.

Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
Would say that's about as good a look as they
could have possibly got there. I mean, excellent a job
by Harmony Laker because two point six seconds she had
time for two dribbles. That's what she took. She caught
the ball, two dribbles, got wide open a step inside
the three point line and just let it go. But
how about this game, I mean great game, really hard
fought battle, and South Christian was really tough down the stretch.
They did not make many free throws, they didn't make

(01:31:51):
a whole lot of shots, but they went after the rebounds.
They played tough defensively, and they forced turnovers and ultimately
that's why they're gonna walk out here to eleven and
two on the season for Erica Brown.

Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
On back to back nights wins in Division over Norfew
and then on the road here tonight in Whalen forty
four forty two year Finals, still in the race with
West Cothink, will they'll face one more time. Falcons did
win over Wyoming, so they're still unbeaten in Okay Goalplay
and one of the top teams along with Rockford in
West Michigan. But what a win for Erica Brown and

(01:32:23):
the Sailors of South Christian as they improved to five
and one in Okay Goal Division play. Whalen will drop
just their fourth loss overall on the season to four
and two Now in the Okay Goal Well, we've got
a lot to take you through into discount door. Postgame
show stay with us, but once again our final score
here tonight on the girls side, it was South Christian

(01:32:45):
hanging out over Whaling forty four forty two. As you're

or investigators. They're very secretive. They don't want attention. They
almost want their crimes to go unnofice. But the idea
of committing a crime and then calling up the police
and bgging about it, that's a whole other level of terror.

Speaker 11 (01:34:04):
A man who wore a medieval style executioners hood, who.

Speaker 25 (01:34:07):
Has baffled the police and baffled the media.

Speaker 21 (01:34:10):
He seems to crave publicity.

Speaker 10 (01:34:12):
He sent letters and cryptograms to newspapers and the police.

a whale of a ballgame here in Whalan tonight on
the girls side with the LMCU Game of the Week.
And let's take you through the final numbers team wise
and individually in this one with our MKD Funeral Homes
final game scoring summary. So you like tight ballgames, Jason Hutton,

(01:36:46):
how about this South Christian after one over Whaland eleven
to ten. Then it was Whalen outscoring South Christian that
second quarter, fourteen to thirteen. We're deadlocked at twenty four
a piece through the first half. Then it was South
Christian and a tight win in the third quarter. Remember
Whalen had trouble scoring, had to do it from the
charity strike due to the final situation, ten to eight.

(01:37:06):
The Sailors win the third quarter. They're up two going
to the final minutes thirty four to thirty two, and
we knew we were in for a barn burner then
and then down the stretch they go even steven ten
a piece in the fourth quarter as South Christian hangs
on to win by two. Here Tonight forty four forty
two Yeah, it was kind of what we expected.

Speaker 2 (01:37:24):
I mean, very evenly matched teams. They have been for
what the last four years, and it was everything like
that tonight. I mean Whalen had a six point lead
in the first half. I think South's biggest lead was
five in the second half of thirty four to twenty nine,
and it came right down to the end, and you know,
Whalen had a shot to win it at the buzzer
from just inside a half court, but South Christian walks

(01:37:45):
out of here with a two point victory.

Speaker 1 (01:37:47):
So there's our team summary. Let's take everyone through the
individual scoring in this one. It will start with the
Wildcats of Whaling.

Speaker 2 (01:37:52):
Yeah. So Whalen was led by a Harmony Laker who
had a game high eighteen points in this one. Addie Sikorski,
the junior center, had eight, Sophomore point guard Marissa Ainsworth
had six. Sophomore six y three center Lauren Boltzima with
four three points tonight for Laney Wolf, two points for
Izzy Johnson off the bench, and Charity Laker, the freshman

(01:38:14):
had a free throw for forty two points for Whale
and South Christian was led by junior point guard Sophia
Prince fifteen points in this game. She had ten of
those in the first half. Sophomore Meredith Helmus was next
with eleven. Senior Lizziewald. Junior Lizziewald Heights had nine four
points tonight from senior Cammy boonstraup three points from the

(01:38:35):
freshman Natalie Wld. Heights might have been the biggest three
points of the game because with about four and a
half minutes to go in the game tied at thirty seven,
she hit the corner three gave South Christian a lead
it would not relinquish, and then Lilly Knits the senior
with two points for the Sailors for their forty four.

Speaker 1 (01:38:49):
There's your final scoring summary tonight. Individually, It's brought to
you by MKD Funeral Homes through four generations that respected

Welcome back on Final Time to Wild Catch Jim Dazim
here at Whalan Union High School, the Uptown Chief Skater
I should say the discount door post game show, we'renna
announce her Uptown chiefs Gate Offensive player of the game.
If you're just tuning in, what a brillion finished South
Christ on the Girls side wins it overwhelming this okay
goal division showdown by too forty four forty two. Well, Jay,

(01:43:20):
I'll start with the offensive honors. Uptown cheapskate player of
the game.

Speaker 8 (01:43:25):
Who do you like?

Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
Well, this is a little difficult decision. Was not necessarily
an aesthetically pleasing offensive game with eighty six total points.
But Sophia Prince fifteen to lead the Sailors. I thought
she did a really good job of leading this team,
getting them set up and then on the break after
the cause turnovers, getting out and getting some easy buckets.
So I'm going so Fia Prince, the junior point guard

(01:43:46):
for South Christian.

Speaker 1 (01:43:47):
Yeah, she's one of their leading scorers along with Lizzie
Woldheist Waldthheist at twelve points per game, so bea friends
at eleven points per game. But I would agree with you,
you know, one of those junior leaders. They don't have
a lot of seniors on this team. But as the
point guard crunch time with a game like this, you've
got to be able to kind of cool your team
down and make big plays, and she certainly did that.

(01:44:07):
Sophia Prince, the junior point guard, the lefty for South
Chistya Tonight's Uptown Chiefskate Offensive player. The game brought to
you by Uptown Chiefskate with locations of Grandville, Kentwood, and Holland.

(01:44:27):
Sofia Brandt's gonna go shopping on us. She'll get a
twenty five dollars gift card to go to any one
of the three locations. And for the Montel Construction Defensive
Player of the Game, I'm gonna go with sophomore Meredith
Helmas gets the start tonight response. I thought she did
a lot of big things down the stretch, and boy
she could attack against the pressure some key rebounds. I

(01:44:49):
know it didn't go her way with those final free throws,
but Meredith Helmos all the way around. How many deflections
do you think she had her knockaways tonight? You on
the front of that press, well, yeah, lots of deflection.

Speaker 2 (01:44:58):
She was really good guarding the ball out front against
the whaling guards and a lot of time that was
Harmony Laker six steals in this game, Helmus really played
well and I think she definitely earned that defensive player
game ward.

Speaker 1 (01:45:10):
So going with the sophomore number fourteen for South Christian
Meredith Helmets Tonight's Montel Construction Defensive Player of the game.
With fifteen years the business in five thousand plus projects completed,
Montel Construction is one of the best reputations in West Michigan.

and they can be your home team in two thoy
twenty five. Well, speaking of Meredith Helmas, she also had
some offensive highlights tonights and one of those we caught
with our J and H Family Stores highlight of the
game glad you're with me, partner one twenty six and
ticking left to go this we do know it's been
tooth and nail, a great game all the way through.
It's a one point game. Meredith Helmets drives down the

(01:45:54):
lane strung finish. Yes, they had one got bumped this
she went up and how about this Meredith Helmets trying
to convert a three point play? Here for South Christian
Glad you're with me Partner one twenty six And there
it was our jan Ah Family Stores highlight of the
game with Meredith Helmets and and one brought to you
by jan H Family Stores are now sixty plus locations

(01:46:15):
across Michigan to serve you. J and H Family Stores
stop being on the way to your next game or

Just like the football season, Trinity Health Michigan is proud
to bring you our high school basketball page at Woodradio
dot com at nine to six to one the Game
dot Com. There you can find our game of the
week's schedules. We just updated our February scheduling a little

(01:46:36):
change from February fourteenth to the eleventh. Boy, we are
looking forward to that Rockford and Hudsonville the Boys rematch
out of Tuesday night.

Speaker 2 (01:46:43):
Well, if it's half as good as the first time around,
it's gonna be outstanding, right, I mean a great game
back and forth at rock for a couple of weeks
ago with the Eli Wolf winning in right now, the
Rams hold on to a one game lead over Hudsonville
in the stands. But I'll tell you what that Okay,
we're out on the boys side anybody like West Ottawa
Ranviller at the bottom of those standings, but those teams
can beat pretty much anybody. East Kent wins Dangerous, Grand

(01:47:05):
Havens really good. So we'll see where we are when
we get to February eleventh, but they're outstanding Hudsonville Rockford
And then.

Speaker 1 (01:47:10):
Tuesday, February twenty fifth, we had our schedule but to
be announced. How about this one to end the girls
regular season that week West Catholic who won again tonight
of Wyoming who was right through in the mix, and
the ok Gold only one loss on the season. They're
gonna take on the big Reds of Muskigo. We saw
them at Rockford without their two star guards. We're hoping
at that point, maybe getting ready for the tournament, they

(01:47:32):
could have at least one of them, if not both
back West Cathack Muskegan should be a tarn good one.

Speaker 2 (01:47:37):
Well yeah, if CC Bonner and Mariah Sane are playing,
that's one of the best matchups in the state, no question.
But even without those two Muskegans not that bad. We
saw them lose to Rockford, but listen, Rockford's just on
another level, right tou Skegan without those two great players
beat Mona Shors last Friday night. The moon SHOT's pretty solid,
so Miskegan's good without them. With them, they're real good,

(01:47:57):
so that'd be interesting. February twenty five.

Speaker 1 (01:47:59):
So for our game of the week's schedule, also our
game podcast like the broadcast tonight or our MCU basketball
Blitz which comes to you every Thursday six to seven.
On ninety six to one the game, we talk girls

Well as we wrap things up on this Friday evening

(01:48:43):
boys game coming up in the area between South Kristin
and Whalen should be a good one. And then next
Tuesday night for our next LMCU Game of the Week
Boys edition, Unity Christian hosting Byron Center. Buck Geno will
be on the call with me and Jay. I know
you're looking forward to that one.

Speaker 2 (01:48:57):
That's a great matchup, such a good match have Unique Christian.
It's just rolling right now. Twelve and won their only
losses to Hudsonville. But boy, since Byron Center has kind
of gotten past football season, got their whole team together,
they've been just really good. Their only loss as a
complete team was to Rockford in overtime, so that should
be fantastic on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (01:49:13):
I want to thank our host athletic director tonight putting
us up with the crows nest here, hooking us up
with the ethernet connection. Everything was ad Adam Volk here
at Whalen High School. Thank you so much, Adam, and
for both head coaches tonight helping us with our prep

second season with South Christian Special Thanks as well always
Joe Errants with everything going on. We had a kickup

(01:49:36):
there in the second half, but Joe calmly handled everything
as our executive producer as he always does and our
instudio host. Great work tonight, Joe. He'll get the podcast up.
