Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay Conference matchup. We have here in Division two two
teams and programs that are familiar with each other the
last few years spending it together in the OK White
division before the realignment, and what historic season it's been
for Ryan Oshnock and the Wildcats coming into play tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Well, you look at this team, Brett and very experienced,
very deep, senior laden and this is kind of the
pinnacle of what coach Oshchnack has been trying to build
towards a nine to zero perfect season. He probably if
you ask anybody, you know outside of the locker room
nine to zero for Northview, you know they probably wouldn't
have believed you. But boy, they were impressive in the

(00:36):
OK Black and then Byron Center and the OK Green.
All they did was lose to Mona Shores by two points.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
We were at that game and.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
The Sailors salute and we saw both those teams do
battle in a very tight race in the OK Green.
But man, Byron Center feeling like they are ready for
a long run in Division two.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
But boy, they're so loaded.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
They've got Mona Shors on the other side of the
district and so many good teams in Division two. So
this is going to be a great matchup between two teams.
Northew has never won a playoff game in their school history.
They've been to the playoffs four times and byronsidered clearly
you know they've got some playoff wins under their belt.
But last year getting to the regional final against East Lansing.
They're hoping to get that far or farther under coach Cisco,

(01:19):
and a lot of people thought this year was to
be kind of a transition because they had some pretty
good seniors, but boy Landon Tungate Isaac Lee the dynamic
duo of the Bulldogs, both seniors both playing their last
year of high school football of Ben superb and I
think there's gonna be a lot of chess match going
on between coach Cisco to get his best players out

(01:40):
and also with Northview to get their best players out
like Wilson Europe and three year starter at arm and Irving.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
So, speaking of star players, keep an eye at number
four Landon tung Gate. What a year he's had now
a senior leading Mark Cisco's Bulldogs a byron center thirteen
and forty three yards passing, coming in eighteen touchdowns. But
he's a threat running the football almost a thousand yards
rushing at nine to twelve to be exact, coming in
another fourteen touchdowns, and but you know we did the

(02:06):
game at Mota Shores, they lose a heartbreaker fourteen to twelve,
three interceptions by tong Gate. He's only had one fumble,
carry the football as much as he has all season long,
hasn't had another interception the entire season. So you know
he wants to clean things up and he's going to
have to do so against a pretty good Northview defense.
Ryan asnotch coming in. The Wildcats not only have an

(02:26):
uphill battle, never won a playoff game in their history,
as you mentioned, but when you look at the matchups
with Byron Center of the ok White, Byron Center owned them.
They didn't play in the COVID year because that was
in Week three, but the other three meetings all went
the way of Byron Center, and they scored at least
forty points in every one of those victories.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, I think for Northew, the key is going to
be Obviously defensively, we saw what offensive weapons they have,
but they're going to have to stop this strong Byron
Center attack. Last week playing against Morris of Illinois. They
had a strong first half, kind of held off a
late charge by Morris to come out on top of
they scored forty eight points in that game, Brat and
really outside of the monent of Shore's game when he

(03:04):
had a top defense in Mona.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Shores kind of lock them up.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
They've scored a lot of points in a lot of games,
and so it's gonna be on coach Oshnak and his
staff to try to diagnose that and keep this a
low scoring affair. I don't think North you can get
into a shootout with the Bulldogs. They're gonna have to
try to muck it up, keep this game around seventeen, fourteen,
twenty one, seventeen, something like that if they want to
have their best chance to win. And like you said, Brett,

(03:28):
just in the last three meetings between these two teams,
it's been a pretty wide margin. Coach Oshnak is trying
to reverse that trend.

Center head coach Mark Cisco, coach. It seems like it's

(12:30):
been a long time since we've talked to you, but
congratulations eight and one. You guys finished off the regular
season and you did it against another out of state
of opponent, Morris Illinois forty eight to twenty eight at home.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
What's it like playing these out of state schools?

Speaker 19 (12:43):
Coach unnerving a little bit just because you don't have it.
You know, you don't have a relative feeling about.

Speaker 20 (12:49):
What they're like.

Speaker 19 (12:50):
You know, how are they really going to play? You
just kind of go off what you see on film,
and what you see in film sometimes is hard. It's
hard to tell because you don't know opponents, you don't
know film quality, et cetera, et cetera. But if you
do enough searching, you know, we do have the Internet now,
so you do enough searching, you know you're going to
have your hands full. And that's really a proud area
of proud football, area of proud program. And you can

(13:11):
see it just looking at their sidelines on film of
how involved their kids are in the game and so
on and Soillfluth and they just play so hard.

Speaker 21 (13:19):
Well, it was also your bike cancer night nine and
twenty sixteen you started this up, and just tell us
about what that means to the Byron Center community and
just kind of how it's grown since you started this
thing nine years ago.

Speaker 19 (13:30):
Yeah, So we started that in twenty sixteen. We were
able to do it the last home game of that season,
which was cool because it was really a championship game,
de facto championship game with unity Christian and we had
you know, it was our first attempt at it, my
wife and I and seemed to go well, and that
was our only event really for the first couple of years,
and then since then we've it's kind of grown into

(13:51):
a multi sport event. We've done bike cancer games for
basketball and then for volleyball and soccer, and we've done
them for We've did a bike cancer track meet, we
do them for hockey, and it's just an awareness thing,
you know, for our community. Our community has changed from
a you know, a rather rural, coach knit community to
a fairly transient suburban community and sometimes you know, in

(14:12):
those older rural communities, those types of things are always
taking care of and when you have people that come
in and out that don't really know other people, sometimes
it's a little tough. It's a little tough to share that.
And so we were just trying to build a little
community around people that are really, you know, going through
some tough times.

Speaker 21 (14:28):
Byron Center football coach Mark Cisco joining us any Montel
construction coaches corner coach Nor Few this week, but let's
just talk. You spend you know, three weeks before the season,
then you got nine weeks season. I mean, really, you
spend all year round getting ready for this stuff, but
here we are, Well, this is what you do it for,
right the playoffs? How has this team evolved and how
ready do you think it is now to embark on
the postseason.

Speaker 19 (14:47):
Oh, that's a great question. You know, evolving is finding
places to plug people in. You know, you usually have
your seniors back you kind of know what they can
do for you. We were lucky to have some kids
that are multiple your starters for us. That helps, and
those kids have really been involved in helping getting younger
kids up to speed so to speak. The injuries we

(15:08):
had early in the season really probably accelerated that back
because now we had not those younger kids who are
trying to find roles had to play significant roles. And
so we've had we've been able to play a lot
of kids and get ready to do that. And then
in all reality, when you when we got to Game
seven against four Sills Northern with them and Miskegan and
Morris sitting there, you wanted to make sure you could

(15:29):
get that six win as soon as possible, So you
weren't trying to make sure you could get six or
five to get in and so I feel like, you know,
people say it's like we've been playing playoff games since
whatever week, but I feel like our guys have done that,
and it's really hard to do that three weeks to throw.
It's hard for professional athletes to do that league in
a row, much less high school kids time to finish

(15:49):
off first quarter academically and have all the other things
going on. And so from that standpoint, I've really been
impressed how our kids have handled. Really it's not pressure situations,
but just the requirement of being focused for that many
weeks in a row.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Land and Tongue Gates been amazing.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Your senior quarterback up on varsity at one point as
a freshman.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
You know, he can throw the football, he can run
the football.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Isaac Lee.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
We've talked about.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
I wanted to spend a minute here, coach and talk
about just what you said. Some of those other guys
that maybe don't always get the headlines but have been
tremendous for you. And I'm just looking at guys as
I roll down and scroll and look at your defense,
like a land In Conrad a Kellen Payne in that
Modus Shorts game that we covered, having to carry the
football for you and carry the lotus walls play defense

(16:38):
because Luke Alaska is out. I mean, the list kind
of goes on and on for you. Oh, Eli Farrell
is another one with two picks sixes the other night
against Forest Hill's Northern.

Speaker 19 (16:45):
Sure, we've been blessed to a lot of those guys
like that, you know, in Land and Conrad's case, he
was about one hundred and fifty pounds, you know, sophomore
safety that was we thought could be pretty good, and
all of a sudden he just grew, you know, on
hem helly ways one hundred and ninety pounds and he's
a grown man out there basically, and he's gotten a
lot better football. And he had a really good season

(17:06):
last year and he's continued his upward trend. In terms
of Kellen, you know, he didn't play last year. He's
getting ready, you know, trying to figure out, you know.

Speaker 22 (17:12):
What he could do with baseball.

Speaker 19 (17:14):
But he's he's that guy like he plays tight end
for us. He's played wing back, he's played running back,
he's punted, he's played d line, he's played linebacker. And
so to have a kid come back after a year
off and not really playing varsity football. He played a
little bit for US as a sophomore at the end
of the season. But and to be able to do
all those things and to do it in a manner
that you know, it's it's for the team. You know.

(17:36):
The guys love him. He's hilarious.

Speaker 22 (17:37):
The coaches, you know, we.

Speaker 19 (17:39):
Enjoy being around him. He's just a fun guy to
be around it. And but he knows what's going on,
and when he doesn't, he'll call and you know, asks
you to you know, hey, I need to know this
for tomorrow or whatever. And then with Eli, like he's
the smallest guy on the field right he's five to six,
he's one hundred and fifty pounds fifty five pounds. He
might be our best tackler. He played. We brought him

(18:00):
up as a sophomore for the playoffs. We played him
on our kickoff team. He did a great job there.
And he again just in terms of learning his role
in the game, He's figured out his position and he
really jumped a couple of balls there in the Forstfield
Northern game and made big plays for US.

Speaker 21 (18:15):
Brat talked about Land and Toungate and Isaac Lee and
how much varsity football they played for you, but also
guys like Luke Alaska and Counter Bovia. I mean, you
have a lot of guys that have played excuse me,
Jackson Bovia, you guys, you're a lot of guys that
have played a lot of football for you and in
a lot of playoff games. How much does how much
more does that make you feel good about this team
now as you get ready for a playoff game?

Speaker 9 (18:35):
Well?

Speaker 19 (18:35):
Sure, I mean you know the same. You know Luke
spinn and he's a four year varsity player for US.
You know, he returned kicks for US as a freshman.
He's played a number of positions, so it just kind
of makes fun of him like this is like your
fortieth varsity game and you did that?

Speaker 3 (18:49):
Really?

Speaker 19 (18:49):
Come on, man? And you know Landon played for US
a bit as a freshman and then he was an
All conference safety as a sophomore. Land and Tongaate was
you know, Isaac Lee got hurt as a freshman, otherwise
he probably would have some varsity experience as a freshman.
And you know, Jacks and Bobia played for US as
a freshman. So when you have guys that have been
around a lot of games. When you get in tight situations,

(19:11):
they just don't panic. And that's the biggest difference. There's
there's not a word that get said and they just
kind of go about their business. They know if they
can keep things close, they have a chance. And that
mentality really really just you know, is excuted and throughout
the team all of a sudden, because hey, if that
guy's been here for four years and he's not worried,
then why should I be worried. Let's go play. And

(19:32):
I think that's the biggest thing with that. I mean
you can probably talk to Shane Prefield about that last
year with his running backs. I mean, there had to
be one hundred and sixty high school games between those
four kids, and so that that really makes things. He's
the head coach for sure.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
Coach breakdown for us. I love talking to you about
this when you're you know, dissecting a team Ryan Oschnoch
and know you have a lot of respect for him
and his coaching staff in NORTHIEW nine and zero coming in.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
What do you see in the Wildcats?

Speaker 19 (19:57):
Uh, they're pretty good, right. I mean, you don't win
my games. You don't win nine games on accident. You
got to have a lot of things. A lot of
kids do a lot of good stuff for you in
a lot of different style of games, and they've won
in every style of game possible. The Irving kid is
we thought it was really good last year as a
quarterback and he's done. You know, he's done a really
good job at quarterback. He throws the ball well, he
can run the ball. You know, he's the number one

(20:18):
sprinter and the track team.

Speaker 22 (20:19):
You know, the Scenario kid.

Speaker 19 (20:21):
He was a good player for him last year and
now he's filling roles all over the field, which he
did last year. People didn't know that, but you could
see that. And now he's just continued to improve his
body and improve his play. And then really they're in
you know, the Gang kid at running back, who was
a really good baseball player for them. He's been a
nice fit. But the biggest change I think for them
is they've been really good in their offensive and defensive lines.

(20:44):
They've done a really really nice job up there just
getting guys in the right place, you know, finding guys
that can do certain things, and then just really disciplined.
You know, they do a lot of stuff formationally, which
means that you have good leaders because they can. They
can handle that situation. Young guys don't that very well.
And they can move the ball offensively, and they've also

(21:04):
won in defensive battle too, So he's really put together
a nice team. You know. He's always got things, new
things for his opponents every week. And then the special teams,
they just challenge you at crazy because of the punts
and that's different extra points setups and the different kickoffs.
So they got the full bag coming at you. You
bet you better be ready to go it.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
Give me a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Week one, Hard to Believe, a matchup nine to zero
versus eight and one. Waddale Field is going to be

six one the game. Game of the Week six thirty

This is the LMCU high school football Game of the Week.

Speaker 4 (23:48):
On ninety six one, the game.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
Welcome out Live to Wadale bielded Yrn Center. We're just
fitted away from kickoff. Let's kick into my partner right now.
But Gino for tonight's Mandalano improvement Keys to the contest.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
We'll start with Northview playing against Byron Center. We've had
on the Christian their safeties had to get downhill and
they had to help in the run game.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
They will not be able.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
To do that with the receivers that Byron Center has,
So how are they gonna get that run support in
the front seven. They really have to make sure they
stay tight in that front seven. For Byron Center, they
have to get out too fast start, but they also
also have to not have the turnovers. They only had
the one game where they had the turnovers and guess what,
they lost that one. So they can continue that trend

(24:38):
of not having a lot of turnovers.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
They're gonna win this football game.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
But like I said, Northview coming on the defensive side,
they have not played a team like this all season.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
It's gonna be very interesting matchup for both teams. Looking
forward to with the old Okay White class between the
Wildcats of Northview coming at nine and now outright champs
in the new Okay Black Division and the Byron Center
bull Longs at eight and one. We talked about the
coaching matchup, both teams doing a fantastic job and their
coaching staff's tremendous led by Mark Cisco for the Bulldogs

(25:09):
and Ryan Oschnack in his fourth season overritten North Few
set to kick it away Dawson Hillard four Byron Center.
They're all familiar home black uniforms with the orange numbers
the white trim. They've got the black caps with the
orange bulldog on the side, nor Few and the all
white uniforms with the red numbers and the red caps
of the white and on the side as well. Taking
it to the fourteen gant to the outside twenty twenty

(25:32):
five thirty lookout, he's off to the race. He's gotta
beat the kicker. He's got blockers in front, and he's
into Bulldog territory. Great return by the speedster and a
heck of a baseball player for the North Few Wildcats
to the thirty eight yard line on the return that
nine number one, and we saw him of the first
play from scrimmage as there is a Wildcat down in

(25:53):
that Holland Christian matchup. Take it to the house sixty
three yards. He's got a lot of speed in the
junior Jalen gans Yeah, and he was the one that
is down. I think what happened is he just got
the wind act out of him because as they pushed
him down, I think he landed on top of the
Byrons center player or maybe the ball looks like he's
walking around under his own power.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
But man Gant rips off a huge return to get
this game started. I give props to Hillard. He didn't
make the tackle, but what he did is he was
able to get Gant to shift and slow down to
get around him.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
That left the pursuit led by first to ten Wildcats.
They work for the right hash. We'll give you the
sporty you starting laps with them on offense after this
little reverse flee flick or they want to throw it
over the top A J. Johnson look at for his
man incomplete at the ten. They were trying to connect
it up that time to Jake Johnson on the little

(26:45):
reverse pass from AJ Johnson on first and ten incomplete
coverage over there by Isaac Lee for Byron Senate. Let's
set the offense for you left tack when he said
captains a big fellow number sixty four Andre Johnson right
side Braden Taylor. That you got Tyler Duby the right guard,
left guard Carson Gan. This kid is a player only
a junior, but he's been up on varsity, played every

(27:06):
game since he's a freshman year. Center is Lincoln Chalmers.
Arman Irving is the quarterback three year varsity starter for
Ryan Osh Knock. Now play action going up top for
aight j Johnson and too far incomplete at the ten
yard line. Again, good comfage over there for Byron Center.
They're gonna test this secondary Eli Farrow where there's two
pick sixes against four steels Northern on the coverage that

(27:27):
time for BC.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Well, you can see the script here, Northe like you said,
testing that secondary a couple passes, including one trick play
off the first snap from scrimmage. But Byron Center equal
to the task and now brings up third and long,
so probably gonna go two plays here to get the
ten yards bread so they go with a medium play here,
Gonna go for it on fourth down as well.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Will Senior is back there as a running back member.
He was banged up with the Catholic Central game, only
played on defense till they needed him at the second
half on offense ended up with three rushing touchdowns that
win over Holland Christian and Weak Gate. He'll get the
football here on third and ten, left side, gotta crase
inside the thirty five. He'll be short of the first
down at the thirty one. Nice pickup of seven. So

(28:10):
fourth in short for norfew in bulldog territory. Let's see
what coach Aschnock decides to do here. Are gonna keep
the offense in and this is your famous gray zone area.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
Buck you yeah, I mean you're not gonna punt. The
football doesn't help you. They're not gonna kick a fifty
yard field goal. So I like to play call there
on third down, especially after two times up top. Run
the football up the middle, and I'll give yourself fourth
and short.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Easton Hannanan in there in the backfield, an extra running
back in. They go out of the kind of power
eye formation, left side handoff, trying to turn the corner,
and he's gonna be short of the first down inside
the third of they stopping at the twenty nine. Boy,
they went kind of student body left. Great job by
the BC defense to cut him down. Turnover on downs

(28:51):
and now Bulldogs will get their first crack on offense
led by their senior captain and starter, and Landon Toung
get the rent.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
They handed it as the lead block there but Byron
Center got good penetration. Push senior out to the numbers,
and then the Bulldogs do a great job of stretching
the field, getting him out to the sideline and cutting
him down before he can get the first down.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Big stop by the Bulldogs. There after the big return
by Jalen Gant that one goes for not yeah yards
short first in ten Bulldogs take over from their own
twenty nine tong gate number four thrown for over thirteen
hundred yards rush over nine hundred yards coming into the contest.
He's got two wide receivers. As movement up front did
look right on the snap Byron Center gonna be called

(29:32):
for illegal procedure with a false start. I'm gonna give
us a chance to go through the starters. Now at
running back, you're gonna see Luke Laska in there, but
getting the start as a sophomore campaign. We did not
see him when we covered against Mona Shores get a carry.
But I tell you what, this is a talented kid.
He can fly is the younger brother of Kellen Payne,
who we did see in that game, kind of doing
double duty playing linebackers normal position and running back because

(29:54):
Luke Laska was still out first in fifteen backs him
up at their own twenty four, just underway, no score,
first offensive possession for the Bulldogs. Fake on the jet sweep,
tongue Gate runs underneath, and nice job of that push
of the offensive line is he's across the thirty out
to the thirty two yard line. Pick up of three
it will be second. I'm sorry, pickup of ege it'll

(30:16):
be second and seven coming up because of the five
yards with the penalty. The other thing about Byron Center
is this offensive line has really come together this year,
obviously to give tongue Gates some time and open up
some holes as the defensive line shifts for Northview. So
moving up front and handing it, I think if you
were to just jumped back, they might have not got

(30:37):
the penley flag. But he was kind of like, oh
I did something. He stopped as he went over. All
you need is to break that invisible line in high
school football, you don't need to make contact. That's automatic five.
So nice job of the long cunt there by tongue
Gate and Byron Center picks up five and that'll move
it out to the thirty seven yard line.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
Well, they got the five yards on the opening play,
and then they gave it right back there with hndon
and jumpings and now third and short.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
It certainly is gonna change the play. Isaac Lee, the
senior talented wide receiver split wide left by himself ten
touchdowns coming into action tonight, handoff from left to right,
lowering the shoulder and fighting for extray yardage. That's campaign
out to the forty. He's got the first down. He's
a bruiser and again big body, but he's got speed

(31:21):
to turn on the jets. We get to the outside.
Just needed to pick up about three and a half
there did to move the chains first in ten. Clock
continues to whind as we approach ten minutes left to
go open. He courted no score between Northview and Byron Center.
Bulldogs on the move for the first time offensively tonight. Yeah, Pain,
we saw him in the Mona Shore his game. I
expect to see a lot of him tonight as well.

(31:43):
Play action. Tongue Gate wants to go to the air
under some pressure, now reverses field back to his left
by some time wide open the flats, got his man
across the forty five, up the sideline, and he's got
the first down out of bounds at the forty six
yard line. On the catch that time was Chase Swartz
number nine four Byron Center, first in ten Bulldogs.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Well, it's a great job there by Toungate to escape
pressure and then bail out handing and comes right up
the middle not touched, then flushes him out to the left,
and then.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Schwartz is just standing there all alone.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
A great job by Toungate to recognize that and get
the first down.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
In in Northfield territory at the forty six though motion
man that's Alaska from left to right hand off lead
blocker is Alaska trying to turn the corner, gets his
shoulders low. That's Campaign inside the forty and he's down
to the north viewd thirty six yard line close to
another first down. Good job again on the edge with
blocking and up front, you got Kayden Krause, the senior,

(32:44):
Jason Wayne Right, a sophomore that offensive line for Mark Cisco,
Billy Butler the junior Ben Kitchen the senior and then
Jackson Bovia Towned junior as well at tackle. One wide
receiver to the right. They go wing backstack left Laska,
two backs in the backfield. On the short tongue gate
hand off. Pain spins out of a tackle, still fighting

(33:05):
for extra yacht. It's inside the twenty five. He's got
another bulldog first down down to the twenty three yard
line of heavy dose the number twenty two. But again
a good job of blocking up from by that offensive
line against this North Few defense.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
And then Pain, like I said, we saw him in
the mowning shore. His game good yards after contact, and
I thought he ran extremely hard against the Sailors, and
it was kind of surprised that they went away from
a little bit in that second half. But a good
runner in that way that time, just keeps his moving
legs forward and keeps good first.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Down, same play to Pain left to right until they
stop it right today twenty two. Better job of the
Northview defense there for a game of just one balpop loose.
Hennon In was in there one of the lead linebackers
for Northfiew to make the stop. Tonight's starting lineup's brought
to you by sporting you branding your success. That's twenty twelve.
We have what you need to look your best. Check

(33:56):
out their gear at inventory online. It's SPORTINGTHELETTERU dot com
Isaac Lee wide right, one wide receiver wide left. They
work for the right hash paint of the backfield to
the right of tongu gate out of the pistol formation
now designed quarterback keeper right side inside the twenty got
a creased between the center and right guard, and strong
kid is landing tongue gate. He was up on Foresty

(34:18):
a little bit as a freshman, and he's down to
the seventeen yard line. It's gonna be third in short
coming up for BC.

Speaker 27 (34:25):
Well.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
That one is just a deep draw without the handoff.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
His snamp at the tong gate and the pistol goes
over between the center and the right guard picks up
good chunkyarriage makes it a third and four here get
it to a managible distance after north you came up
with a stop Tate Bainbridge.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
They can split out wide Alex Wabb and the like
to use as well. Tongue gate now design quarterback keeper
left side to get the first down and more inside
the ten wrapped up around his helmet and corraled down
on the tackle. That time for Norview, Danny Roebock, the
senior defensive pack might have saved a touchdown there as

(35:03):
he's down inside the ten first in goal Bulldogs from
the north View eight.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Well, good push we were seeing early from the Bulldogs
up front, and like I mentioned in the Holland Christian game,
we had guys getting downhill from the defensive secondary. We
can't really afford to do that with the receivers that
Byron center has. You have to respect the passing game,
especially deep over the middle. And so now the seats
he's are kind of locked in.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
And as a movement looks like the right tackle nearside
tackle getting up out of his stands. So fall start
will back up Byron center, Carter Ricketts in there, and
a wide slot left Lee. The slotman is now Bovia
gonna check in. Also checking in as well, Will Lake,
senior wide receiver. They'll rotate a lot of different wide

(35:45):
receivers in for coach Cisco and for Northview up front,
we talked about that defensive line. Will Davis Keandra Johnson,
one of the Johnson brothers, also Carson Gin lone two
way starter at least he was a couple weeks ago
when we had him against Holland Christians. So a lot
of depth for this Northview team trying to rotate players
in and not have him go both ways. First in goal,

(36:08):
after being backed up to the thirteen yard line, double handoff,
Luke Alaska has it from Kellen Payne, who's in there
now in the backfield. Little counteraction from right to left
on the double hand off to the ten yard line
for Alaska. Good to see Luke back in there. They
really missed his leadership. And this is a kid who
was returning punts and kicks for Marxisko. We talked about

(36:29):
in the interview when he was a freshman. You look
at the varsity experience. Lee was hurt as a freshman,
but obviously he would have played did as a sophomore.
But you had Luke Alaska, you had Landon Tongue. All
those guys getting varsity experience as freshmen.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
Lasted out coming off and so they're gonna tape him
up on the left hand there and boy, just an
ever present person in the varsity ranks as Luke Laska.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
Second goal for the ten tongue Gate wants to throw now,
buy some time, throws it out. Did he double catch it? No,
he didn't keep his feet in bounds on the nearest
sideline in the end zone. That was big Kellen pain incomplete,
but good job by tong Gate as he was gonna
first pass it, then tucked it to run, wasn't there,
pulled back out good senior experience, and then rolling to

(37:15):
his right, had pain but couldn't make the fingertip catch. Incomplete.
Stops the clock with five p fifty five left to
go on a fast moving first quarter. No score on
this Division two District semi final between Byron Center and Norview.
But the Bulldogs in the red zone, third and goal
from the ten. Two wide receivers each way, keep an
eye number three of them motion him now from right

(37:36):
to left, and former trips that way. Tongue Gate looking
that way, looking looking nowhere to go. Now I'm gonna
pull it down, starts left, comes back to the right,
makes a man miss at the fifteen. I'm just gonna
see what he can get inside the ten and gona
be driven out of bounds, upended at the eight yard line.
Good hard tackle that time by North View's Brady Becker,
the senior defensive back. Remember Becker had an I int

(37:58):
in that victory over holand Christian that we covered.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Yeah, Becker, and again the strong safety play getting Downhill
in the running game that time it was the design pass.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
Good pressure there.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
They're trying to get Isaac Lee on the underneath route Brett,
but that passing lane just wasn't there in tongate. Couldn't
lob it over there. Didn't want to risk an interception,
and so he goes to the other side of the
field and a great job by Becker to track him down.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
It'll force a field goal attempt. Dawson Hillard on to
try the twenty five out attempt from the fifteen. They'll
spot it down from the right hash for the right
footed kicker snaps go and hold his down. Kick is
on the way, plenty of leg and right through the uprights.
Hillard has the twenty five yard field goal. So Byron

(38:41):
Center puts the first points in the board three to
nothing in our score with five oh seven left to
go in the first you're listening to Drive to Ford
Field presented by Vandalen Holmanprouben Live on this Friday Night
you're on ninety six to one the game. Brett Pikete
of ninety six to won the game. Here and knowing
who to trust when it comes to your next fencing project,
whether a commercial or your own home, can be overwhelming.

(39:01):
I recommend Matt Fortuna and Joever Gowie and their great
team at straight Line Fence. They offer free residential and
commercial quotes, and these guys when it comes to customer service,
deliver on timing and quality. Straight Line Fence is locally
owned and very competitively priced. But beyond the quality and
the price of the product, it's the personal touch that
makes Straight Line Fence the champion of fencing companies. See

(39:23):
for yourself at straight Line Fences dot comport with Wielgal
Hillard now kicking it inside the ten to the nine,
going wide side and not finding anywhere to run and
finally just run out of real estate, stopped at the
twenty yard line. On the return of that time for

(39:45):
Northview was Tyson Logan, the senior wide receiver. Great job
by the Byron center kickoff team to get down there
and cover and now that defense will go back to work.
So both offenses kind of going to the air a
little bit on their opening Tribes northview, of course, benefiting
from the Gant kickoff return of forty plus to set
him up in bulldog territory. Start their drive, but Byron

(40:08):
center Stiffen's up turnover on downs three nothing They lead
it with five minutes exactly left to go. With the
opening quarter, second offense in possession for Armaud Irving and
the Wildcats offense handoff left side Senora stiff Arms won
defender and he's across the twenty five running room close
to the first down Margaret at the twenty nine yard line.
Finally Farroh there the strong safety to bring him down

(40:30):
and we saw a lot of that in the second
half to put Holland Christian away in that winning week eight.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
I mean, Wilson are just impressive, not only with his
feed but the power. A good runner between the tackles,
and he is not afraid of contact as you saw
there lowering the shoulder getting a couple extra yards.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Hard runners at Wilsonior aj Johnson keeping on that junior
the slot right dad played college football on Acron handoff
senior a boyd. He ran into a wall of black
as they stiffen and stop right near the first down
marker at the thirty This Byron Center defense really swarms
to the football. Kellen Payne one of the first guys
there defensively for Byron Center, along with big number fifty nine.

(41:11):
That's Chris Brown, junior boy.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
The offensive lineman there got stalemated. Great job, great push
by the defensive line and they stopped him up. But
senior just need to get a yard and that's what
he got.

Speaker 1 (41:27):
We'll set this Byron Center defense. It was so good
of the opening possession after this play, first down in
ten Gan't handoff penalty flag flies cuts back into thirty,
puts a foot in the ground and so quick across
the thirty five out to the thirty seven yard line.
The penalty flying throne by the head referee in the backfield.
So they'll hold the phone on this one. Let's sort

(41:47):
it out offense, and there you go. A legal shift
by the Wildcat's gonna nullify that play and back them up.
Let's set the starters defensively. They have a good defensive line.
They'll rotate a few to guys in there, but Nolan's
doublefield the senior big number fifty on that defensive line
along with Aiden Van Damn. We mentioned Chris Brown, junior

(42:08):
and Aiden Rings the junior number seventy seven getting in
there tonight linebacking corps led by number two Luke Laska
back in there in the middle and Kellen Payne Ganton motion.
They fake it to him Irving left side and he's
out to the thirty before Alaska wraps him up and
drops him, so he gets the penalty yardage back gain No.
Five Number two moved Alaska. It's gonna be second and

(42:30):
ten coming up for the Wildcats three twelve and ticking
left to go three to nothing in our score Byron
Center of twenty five yard field goal recap that scoring
drive when we get a chance here in a minute
for the Bulldogs in their opening possession and driving it
through was their kicker, the junior Dawson Hillard. So second
down and ten. You know the amazing thing about that

(42:52):
win over Holland Christy, we were surprised. We heard all
about A. J. Johnson coming in. I think he only
had like one catch in that game. Irving now rolling
to his right look out under some pressure, making a
man miss buying some time and almost picked off. He
floated that one to Johnson on the far sideline and
Isaac Lee doesn't need more than a step to close quickly,
and he almost picked that one off, but did knock

(43:12):
it away.

Speaker 2 (43:14):
Boy, And that's a dangerous play there because, like you said,
Isaac Lee doesn't need much of an opportunity and throwing
that ball across the field from the fire hash to
the fireside from tire the near hash of the fireside,
that's a long throw, especially with the big hashes in
high school football, and Lee was able to get that
closing speed and knock it down.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
Strong safety Eli Faraoh, we'll talk about him in a minute,
along with Tate Bainbridge. This secondary has a lot of interceptions.
Irving back to pass stets fires got his man for
a first down cross the forty to the forty three
yard line of norfew that'll move the chains. First in
tent on the catch that time was Tyson Logan who

(43:54):
just had that kickoff return. Nice job by Irvin dropped back,
stayed in the pocket, set his feet, delivered a nice
ball and going down to make the catch that time
is Logan to help his quarterback. But I want to
go back to that Byron Sutter defense through nine games,
Buck twelve interceptions as a group. That's impressive.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
Yeah, and you know, kudos to North View because they
need to pass and to be successful against Byron Center,
and they're not scared to do it. But as you
can tell, that's why they need to pass, because Jalen
Gant is swarmed under on that play.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
Yeah, four black jerseys around him. That defensive line just
doing a great job of holding the line and then
allowing the linebackers like last get pain to clean it.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
Up well, and that's the name of the game for
Byron Center. Their defensive line does a great job gap control,
winning the linebackers that they have the talent in that
linebacking corps to clean up what they've been able to
steer towards the linebackers. And there we see it right there,
to those black jerseys where linebackers filling the gap, wing.

Speaker 1 (44:55):
Back right side handoff kan't the loan setback next to
Irvin and nowhere to go maybe yard to the forty three.
That's it before he swarmed under again. Good job defensively
for Byron Center and making the stop that time was
number fifty. We've talked about him.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
Doublefield surprised as they've gone with Gant in between the tackles.
We saw him right against Alan Christian getting to the
outside and that's where he really made his Hay Senior tends.

Speaker 1 (45:20):
To be the guy that they run between the tackles.
That time.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
They change it up a little bit with Gan a
couple of times over right guard and then left guard
and just doesn't get anywhere.

Speaker 1 (45:29):
And now brings up third and long under a minute
to play an ticky first quarter three nothing Byron center,
big third nine here for Northview from their own forty three.
So and you're on the ballgame, but in a slot
tight left. They'll motion him down left to right, fake
the jet sweep. Here comes to pressure. They set up
a screen. Now he's just gonna throw it away. Great
pressure by Byron Center. Irvin didn't even have time. It
came from both ends, got squeezed in the middle. Fourth

(45:52):
and nine coming up for Northview. And by the way,
the Drive to Ford Field presented again this year by
vandal On Home Improvement with eighty years to this. Fandalion
Hopmprovement offers top notch contractor services to customers in West
Michigan called six one sixty six, six nine to eleven
eleven for more details, or visit vandal Lines double A
on lines dot com. With fourth and nine of their
own territory, outcomes the punk team for Ryan Oshnock in Northfield.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
Well, it's a big stop there for Byron Center getting
the field goal and then not letting north you get
a lot of momentum offensively getting the ball back here
to end the first quarter and see if they can
can't get some more points on the board.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Irving to kick it away and he does wobbly spiral
Lowlin driving kick hits at the thirty. Isaac Lee always
dangerous back there has to let this one just roll
inside the fifteen favorable wildcat roll all the way down
just inside the twelve yard line of Byron Center. So
good John by Irving as a punter flipped in the
field for norfew and now Byron Center will get just

(46:48):
their second offensive possession of the game. With twenty nine
seconds left to go in this opening quarter. They lead
at three to nothing.

Speaker 2 (46:56):
Boy, and this is if you're Northview, with the way
the offense has kind of been stymied in these two drives,
you gotta feel like three to nothing right now is
a win. And this is going to be a big
drive here starting and going into the second quarterbred because
if Byron Center can get a touchdown, that ten point
lead with the way the Northview offense has gone, feels

(47:16):
like a lot bigger than it really is.

Speaker 1 (47:18):
Carter A hearn of the ball game from Mark Cisco,
and he is the wing back left side. Tong Gate
was slot right. Lee in that slot now is shift
by the defensive line for Norview trying to draw a penalty.
And they did well what they're doing, but they're stemming late.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
And does that mean for the folks in the audience,
is the defensive line is lined up, they're usually an
even front, which is head up on the offensive lineman,
and they're stemming or shifting late to an odd front
or in gaps, and then Byron Center has to either
check out of that or they have to go ahead
with the play in that time. I think what happened
is Tounguate try to check out of it, and somebody

(47:52):
heard the cadence and now it was go time.

Speaker 1 (47:55):
And you don't see a lot of defensive lines of
the high school level do that, so it does throw
you off by design for the offensive line first and
fifteen after the penalty. Twenty eight seconds left to go.
Opening quarter. Now Tonguate directing traffic, moves his back over
from right to left, gonna hand off jet sweep cutting
back campaign out to the ten yard line. They'll stop
him there on the play date of three. It'll be

(48:20):
second and long coming up, and that might be the
final play. This opening quarter being brought to you by

You're listening to on ninety six to one the game,
so the teams have switched sides.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
We've switched ends of the field and al Byron center
working from the south end zone right to left, and
Narrato down working north and on second and twelve, Land
and Tongue calling his own number over the right side.
Good job of the northfield defense for a short gain.
They give him just across the fifteen to the sixteen
down line of the Bulldogs. So third and a long
six coming up for BC.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
Well, they won a little hitch or a smoke rout
to the far side of the field towards us and
didn't happen, so then he had to pull it down.
I think north he's done a great job bread of
disguising things and making Land and Tongate see a couple
of ghosts there, because he has pulled the ball down
a couple of times when it looked like guys might
be open.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
Third and six, Tonguate takes a snap long to his left.
He's got the home run ball, but it's not there now,
trying to air it out for Isaac Lee, the secondary man,
and he had him and overthrew him at the midfield stripe.
Good job by the northfield defense. Fourth and long and
Byron Center gonna have to punt it deep in their
own territory. He had the first man clear it out

(51:08):
and then he had Isaac Lee going up the sideline
secondary and it was there. He had him by a
couple of steps, but Tongan and I'm able to connect
to his senior wide receiver and so Luke Alaska will
punt it away for BC boy. That would have been
a big play at Lee now late coming back out
for the punt team. If we get a chance, We'll
have the rapid radio scoreboard updates some scores from around

(51:31):
the area with other playoff faction tonight in all the
different divisions. Joe Arrett, our executive producer and studio host
double duty tonight back in our ninety six won the
game studios along with Cole Benia. So two men back
deep for Northfield Laska to kick it away from his
own five yard line endoveren line drive. Kick hits the
BC forty and great territory to start this drive for Northfields,

(51:55):
they say that goes out of bounds on the far
sideline of the Wildcats forty eight yard line, So not
a bad kick, but not a great kick and Byron
center defensively gonna ask their defense for the second time
tonight to try to stop this Northview offense, but working
from their side of the fifty.

Speaker 2 (52:13):
Well and Byron center, clearly hoping that they could get
some throws down field. It hasn't materialized yet. North You're
doing a pretty good job, not only in the defensive
second area, but they've also gotten some pressure on Tonggate
and now getting a short field here for the offense.

Speaker 1 (52:29):
Maybe that's what they need to get. Rolling play action
first in ten Irvy rolling to us right now, gonna
tuck and run. No, it's home. And finally the defensive
backs turned and realized he was going upfield. He's got
some speed inside the thority and knocked out of bounds
at the twenty three yard line of BC. Armand Irvey.
Number eleven played his freshman year a Grand Rapids Christian,

(52:52):
then came over was an instant starter his sophomore year,
three year varsity player at quarterback for Ryan Oschnack, and
we talked about how important it would be for him
to play well tonight. So we talked about Landon Toungate.

Speaker 2 (53:03):
In his long varsity ten year arman Irving has the
same timeline, knows what's going on, great pull down there
handoff Gan't got some speed over the left side, increase
inside the twenty down to the eighteen yard line, give
him five second and five upcoming just underway.

Speaker 1 (53:19):
Second quarter, three to nothing BC over North View. The
winner will get in the district final. The matchup tonight
between the number one and four set in this district
and that is Mona Shores and TC West.

Speaker 2 (53:31):
Fever City West, one of those teams that we see
a lot of in D two. Remember saw them against
Caledonia in that freak blizzard a couple of years ago
in the regional final and they Josh Burnham who went
end up going to Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (53:44):
Logan Tyson now with a slot to AJ Johnson and
incomplete a penalty fly gonna come out Byron Center faithful
don't like it. But the problem was there was contact
and he never solved the football.

Speaker 2 (53:58):
Well, he didn't see the football. What he made the
contact right about that he turned around was not playing
the ball. He'd played the man and the contact comes before.
It's a pretty clear cut rule. If you make contact, yeah,
you usually can get away with it if you're facing
the ball making a play.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
But at that time, unfortunately for the Bulldogs.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
The defensive back turns all the way around on Johnson
and really just tries to go up and create a
jump ball situation, but makes a lot of contact there.
It's a tough one, but I think they get it
right because of just the way that it happened. And
that's a big play for Northview now getting first in goal.

Speaker 1 (54:32):
And the problem is your defensive back and you don't
see it. The wide receivers usually trying to work back
to the football like A. J. Johnson was, So there's
contact yep, and Eli Farrow gets called for pass interference
handoffs seen you're on left side crashing down to about
the seven yard line. That stood up there Alaska defensive
light and now someone falling down that happens. It's football

(54:55):
in the secondary there for Byron center coming in late
react to it. So second and goal from the seven.

Speaker 2 (55:02):
Every time somebody falls a people, somebody's gonna react. But
I think they just were getting out of the pile.
And good job by the officials there. Just let everybody
know that nothing there, and it's it's a playoff game, Brett.

Speaker 1 (55:15):
They don't want to throw a flag if they don't.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
Have to either, and so letting things go here and
now it's gonna be tough going for Northview.

Speaker 1 (55:23):
Caan't right side. They you send Euras the blocking back,
kind of an h back if you will, wing back
and ran that way. Gan't inside the five. Follow that
offensive line doing a nice job down of the three
yard line. Third and goal coming up. Rapid radio scoreboard update.
Rockford ought to a quick seven nothing to start over Grandville.
We've seen that playoff matchup before and their District one

(55:44):
semi final up at Rockford. Also, you already Christian out
quick fifteen to six over Hamilton in that Division four matchup.

Speaker 2 (55:51):
This will be interesting here, Brett. They've got third down
and it looks like goal from the three. They'll probably
take a time out here to talk about it. Be
interesting because if they don't get it, Brett, do you
go for it or do you try to just tie
the game with Sanchez. Right now, they're just hoping they
get it on third down and they're going to talk
about it on the sideline.

Speaker 1 (56:08):
Yeah, Ryan, I's not going to take all the time
off the clock. Eight point thirty left to go, first half,
third in goal coming up for Northview from the Byron
center three yard line time out of the field. We'll
step aside as well Byron Center three North Fie enough
but the wildcats knocking on the door, we come back.
You're right ninety six y one thick eight.

Speaker 28 (56:29):
I used to dread it dressing up, that is that
was always in so much pain anytime I had to
wear dress shoes. Hey, it's justin Barklay for the Good
Feed Store. No matter when I have to put the
dress shoes on a big event, maybe I'm going to
the State of the Union or church, I've gotta wear
some good looking shoes. I used to struggle. I tried Pills, Potions,

(56:51):
drug store shoe cushions, but nothing really seemed to work
or last until I walked into the Good Feed Store.
They have three hundred different styles and sizes of supports.

Speaker 4 (56:59):
I tried a few.

Speaker 28 (57:00):
Found the custom fit that I could feel immediately when
I slipped them on. They helped me, and you should
stop in and see if they can help you too.
Not only look good wherever you go, but you can
feel good too. The best part not in pain anymore.
That's a pretty big deal. Thanks to the Good Feet
Store in Grand Rapids on twenty eighth Street, Ride in
front of costco or in portage on Westige in front
of Cole's. Come in and experience the good feed feeling

(57:21):
for yourself, comfort, energy, performance and pain relief at the
good feet store.

Speaker 1 (57:28):
I formation play action, want to his ride, throws back
at Boston low and behind as a tender receiver. He
was double covered there. I think that was sen Eura,
Yeah it was.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
They actually had senior lineup as a tight end on
the left side or wing back.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
They had handed him at the full back position. Get
at the.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
Tailback, run a little play action. But that's a good
job there by Byron Center. Good coverage by them, and
they were not able to get the pass completed.

Speaker 1 (57:56):
It was actually the far tight end Jack van Poy
and they right across number eight. Yeah that's six and eight.
Well yep, it's the same. Now to field goal attempt,
irving on to hold it, snaps go and hold us down.
Kick is up and it is good. Remember here was
the hero and there went over Catholic Central. That's senior
Oscar Sanchez tying things up at three a piece with

(58:17):
eight twenty three left to go. So a pair of
field goals in this one. We'll take a time out,
We'll come back with more. As you're listening to the

You're listening to Game Night on ninety six one.

Speaker 1 (59:04):
The game REDI Kita buck Gino back to Wadio Field
and look out, Carter Ahearn has broken free. Are on
the right side up the sidelined into wildcat territory. That
kickoff return? What a return that time by number five

(59:26):
for BC's inside the northview forty down to the thirty
five yard line. Well you never forget about the third
phase when it comes playoff time. Buck Gino and that
special teams. We've had a couple of nice kickoff returns tonight,
one each way, and both of them going northward with
the wind. Maybe that's it. Maybe they just have to
go with the wind a little bit. But that when Aharn.

Speaker 2 (59:47):
Breaks into the second level, great job there up front blocking.

Speaker 1 (59:51):
We've got a.

Speaker 2 (59:53):
Man down for Byron Senta didn't get the number, but
I think it's a cramp because it looks like when
his teammates tried to stretch him out and then relieved
by the trainers.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
I think we're all set there, should.

Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Be good, but boy, that's a big, big momentum shift
there for Byron Center. Not only did they keep Northview
out of the end zone after that short field forcing
a field goal, but then they were able to flip
it and get great field position to start this drive
both offenses, though Brett struggling a little bit early, but
you want to tip the cap to the defensive.

Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
Coach Ashak and his staff obviously got in the library
and did some research in Coach Cisco and his staff
also doing a great job, and this is what we
thought might be some offensive fires quickly turning into a
defensive struggle.

Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
Absolutely. Trent Schwartz, by the way, is the injured Byron
center play on the trainer's table. But it looks like
just have to work out a cramp on this cool night.
First down to ten Ton Gate, turning the corner and
tight ropes his way down the sideline on the far
sideline in front of Northview and he's inside the thirty
down to the twenty seven yard line, maybe the twenty
eight as well. They'll spot him, but nice job, didn't

(01:00:57):
look like he had a lot to the short corner
there and turn the corner with his speed and they
will spot him at the twenty eight for a nice
gain of seven second in three. Clock continues to want
us we approach eight minutes left to go, actually stop
because he went out of bounds there on the far
sideline slot left one back set to the left of
Tongue Gate. Now hand off to the h back, try

(01:01:18):
to turn the corner, and great job by the Northview
defense that looked like he was gonna get the edge
and then closing it down in a hurry for a
short gain. That's Brady Becker we've called his name already
once tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Well Guessner out there too at the quarterback spot. And
one name that we have not mentioned for Byron Center
a whole lot as far as catching the football, Isaac Lean.
That's because on the other side, Julian Charity has been
match up against him all night.

Speaker 1 (01:01:45):
Will bombback on the corner, try to go from right
to left to get the edge third and short. They'll
mark him at the twenty six. He needs to get
inside the twenty five on this handoff left side. He's
got it, big campaign. Push the pile wave of light
to the twenty one. Nice gate of five moves the
chains first and ten, I tay you. Twenty two is

(01:02:08):
a low. They've got some sophomores that can contribute from
Mark Cisco on this varsity for Byron Center, and both
teams use a lot of different weapons.

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Tonight already in this first half, Yeah, I mean Northview
empty and the Amo clip right away with that reverse pass.
So a lot of things that we didn't see, at
least didn't see a lot of during the regular season.
We got moving up front again that late stemming Brett
really has Byron Center offensive lion for a loop because
Northhew is doing it almost every snap and they've gotten

(01:02:38):
a couple of times. They're just moving latterly. They're not
trying to draw anybody outside. They're just moving laterally, and
Byron Center has gone for it a couple of times
and cost themselves yardage.

Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
Now back them up five back to the twenty six
yard line of Northview first in fifteen tode to three
apiece Bulldogs on the move again slot right. They work
from the left. Hash can't the low man of the
backfield to the right of tongue Gate on the pistol
formation playfake to him, swings it out right side dangerous.
Lee comes back to it though, now trying to use
his speed to get to the outside. Steve farming inside

(01:03:09):
the twenty and positive yardage all the way down to
about the eighteen yard line. But I tell you what
if he doesn't come back to that. That defensive secondary
man for Norfew was having his sights on it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Julie and Charity saw that it was getting bigger by
the second as he was getting towards there.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
And then Isaac Lee doing.

Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
A great job, like you said, working back to the
football and then had open space because Charity gambles on
that one and doesn't have any support, and Isaac Lee
turns it to the outside, uses his great speed and
picks up eight there on first and fifteen. So a
really nice play. It kind of discombibulated up front. There
was some early start. I didn't know if it was
a false start, and maybe somebody jumped offside and kind

(01:03:49):
of threw the timing off there.

Speaker 1 (01:03:50):
But they're able to get the playoff second and six.
After the game that time pitching catch Tongue Gate to Lee,
tong Gate, looky nowhere to throw? Got some time now
dancing around trying to get some more time and gonna
be wrapped up for a loss back at the twenty
yard line. Great job defensively by Norfew. He just ran
out of time with the pressure on the edge, and

(01:04:12):
with that loss in the sack, it's gonna be third
and nine now coming up for BC. Boy, you touched
on a buck Cheno. The defenses have kind of risen
to the occasion to hear on both sides of this
three three ball.

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Games, especially downfield when Tongu Gate looking for windows to
throw the football in and either he's hesitant or Norfew
is doing a heck of a job of getting in
the passing lianes that he wants to go to because
he's got guys running downfield and you think he might
be able to fread one in there, but he just

(01:04:43):
hasn't pulled the trigger quite yet and it's cost him
a couple of times.

Speaker 1 (01:04:46):
And now we're gonna have a time out here. I
think coach Oshmak took the time out now. I'm gonna
say Mark Cisco. By the way, Ben Duffy, the outside linebacker,
was the one who finally controlled the edge and kept
tongue Gate from getting positive. Yachders there stopping for a
loss to force this third and nine time out of
the field. We'll keep it right here. Five twenty three
left to go. First half. Stay with Ushult Jepson Physical

(01:05:07):
Therapy halftime show coming up. Tonight's players have worked hard
to get their bodies ready for competition. In Hult Jepson
Physical Therapy wants you to stay in the game no
matter what level of activity you desire. They get patients
in within twenty four to forty eight hours. Huld Jepson
Physical Therapy restoring body, reviving spirit well. The drive to
Ford Field being brought to you by Vandalid Home Improvement.
Look at this crowd here tonight. They are just lined

(01:05:30):
up all the way around the fencing. All the seats
are taking on both sides. That's what I love about
playoff football because you get high school football fans from
maybe other communities, their team didn't make the playoffs whatever,
and they not to see a good football.

Speaker 2 (01:05:41):
Yeah, and they don't have the band, so they got
a little extra seating to fill up.

Speaker 1 (01:05:45):
But they did it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
And more so, great turn up by both teams. And hey,
they're getting the heck of a ball game right now.
I was gonna say three to three, here we go.

Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
Big third and nine from the North viear twenty for
Byron Center Northfield showing blitz. They pick it up. Tongue
Gates got time throwing for the end, got a man
out there and is it intercepted? No, couldn't hang on incomplete.
He was playing center field back there, and I'm surprised
he didn't pick it off. The defensive back for Northview

(01:06:12):
tender receiver that time. Tongue Gate kind of threw that
one up. Was Chase Schwartz for BC. Yeah, and back
there defensively for Northview. I think that was Guessner that
got his hands on it. It was knocked it away,
and great job there by Schwartz.

Speaker 2 (01:06:27):
They played a little defense getting back there because Guessner
looked like he was gonna pick that off, but Schwartz
just gets his hand in there and is able to
knock it down. And now it's gonna be fourth down
and n I'm.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
Gonna go for it here.

Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
And I like that call because it's a pretty long
field goal. Wind has cal him down, but still I
think you gotta.

Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
Go for it here. Colin Gester was our Hotel Construction
defensive player of the game in that big winning Week
eight over Holland Christian. Now Ryan Oshnock wants to counter
with a timeout, so time out of the field. We'll
step aside as well. Five to sixteen left to go
first half, we're tied to three between Byron Center and Northview.
You are the Drive to Ford Field presented by Bandalot
Home Improvement on ninety six to one the game.

hot Rod Harley Davidson, Downtown Muskegan. When responsible for tax, title.

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
And License, Martino, while we have a moment coming back,
let's go to the Rapid Radios scoreboards. So it's Rockford
seven to three over Grahamville now in the first half
that Division one matchup. Also Hudsonville six to three over

(01:07:56):
East Kentwood, sixteen zip Zealand West and the bird Bull
playoff edition over Zealand East. And here a big fourth
down and nine BC after the timeout three wide receivers
laft two to the right, empty backfield, tong Gate takes
a snap going Towys left, turns, fires and in and
out of the hands of Isaac Lee. Would have been
enough for a first down at the five. He makes

(01:08:17):
that catch nine times out of ten, but knocked away
and give credit norfew on the covers at time with
Danny Roeboch. Well, they run just a two man route.

Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
But what they do is they run the inside receiver
I think that was Swartz up the seam and then
they try to get the safety to come over on Lee.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
They got what they wanted there.

Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
But Bret, I will tell you one thing, this is
probably the coldest night we've had of the year. Yeah,
and so guys are just not used to having those
frosty fingers, and that time, I think that's why Isaac
Lee happened. Not only that good coverage there, but also
I think he was hearing a little bit of footsteps
and maybe thought the contact was coming. End up dropping
the football north he gets it on the turnover.

Speaker 1 (01:08:57):
On downs, you got a defense getting to stop your
first hit. Arman Irving fakes the jet sweep, butters some pressure,
breaks a tackle. Look out from the backside. He's just
gonna throw this one into the bulldog bench incomplete. That's
a veteran move by the senior quarterback. Stops the clock
with five over three left to go. Timeout situation is
this norfew with one Byron center with two well Byron center.

Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
If they can get the ball back one of My
favorite things the two for the two possession because they
kicked off to Northew. So if they can get the
ball back here, they'll have roughly four minutes and change
if that's what happens. If they can get away with
a punch on this series, and they'll have two timeouts
to get down the field and they'll also get the
ball to start the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
Logan Tyson and aj Johnson form a slot right. They
work from the left, Hash armand Irving handoff to Gants
over the right side and he gets one yard and
that's about it before he is shoved back. Boy, that
Byron Center defense has been tough tonight. Luke Laska coming
up off the bottom of the pile. Also Stubble Field

(01:09:59):
in there defensively.

Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
And again, brat you just we're not used to seeing
Gants run as much between the tackle as we saw
the lot with seniora against Holland Christian. We're just not
seeing Wilsonior carry the ball nearly as much. Do you
maybe think that he's still a little bit dinged up.

Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
In physical game physical team at Byron Center, right, you.

Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
Got to kind of play the numbers game and see
if you can save for the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
Third nine RBN back to pass. That's fires penalty, flag flies,
god is man complete, that's the tight end across the
forty out to the forty two yard line. But hold
the phone on the catch that time, was Van Preyan, Well, hold.

Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
The phone and call the holding because that's probably what
it's going to be. You'll usually throw it right in
the middle at the center and oh it was offside
or no, that's probably going to be a hold or
maybe illegal hands of the face. That's probably the only
thing that I could think of that they would call.
But it looks like Northview has resigned itself to its
fate and has taken.

Speaker 1 (01:10:54):
The first Okay, yep, might be a hands to the face.

Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
Yeah, I don't know if that's a definite rule in
high school versus college and pro maybe just fall under
the generic personal foul. But either way, that's a big
one to take play. Because they had a first down,
it's gonna.

Speaker 1 (01:11:11):
Be half the distance to the goal normally be fifteen,
gonna be ten yards because they were at the twenty,
Van Proyn was way over the forty yard line. Well,
and Kellen Payne reacted, so I'm sure he was the
guy that whatever happened, it was to him because he
was all over saying it was Norview that committed the foul.
Third and nineteen now backed up to their own ten
yard line. For this Wildcats offense tied it three with

(01:11:33):
Byron sentat As we roll under four minutes and ticking
left to go first half, they moved man over from
left to right, Irving rolling that way. Look out, and
he's gonna go down a way of a black led
by Kellen Payne gets the sack back of the five
yard line. I'll tell you what if he didn't go
down or since that coming, there were two guys from
his backside that were gonna lay a lick on him.

Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
And I think that's a great play there, buyerving, knowing
the backside pressure is near, he ducks under it instead
of taking the full on hit and perhaps losing the football,
just ducks underneath and kind of slides to a stop there, Brett.
But like you said, that's just not a lot going
on there. They spin them out to the right again
and Byron center knows that they want to throw the football,

(01:12:17):
so they have their ears pinned back and get good
pressure and able to knock Irving down.

Speaker 1 (01:12:22):
Great job of the BC defense trying to set up
field position. Irvan's gonna have to punt from the back
of his own end zone. Not much pressure gets it away. Oh,
great spiraling kick, Isaac Lee gonna make the fair catch
at about the forty eight yard line of Norfew. So
good field position for Byron Center, but great punt by
Irving to get them out of dire straits there and

(01:12:43):
again Byron Center comes up with a nice answer defensively.
Still tied at three, three to zero, two left to go.
First half. What a ballgame. But you know, when we
saw the matchups, we thought this could happen. We're like,
oh man seventeen and one the combined records for an
opening round playoff game. That's the one we're gonna be at,
and certainly at Waddelle Field. The entire crowd and it's
a big one. Folks. Enjoin this one tonight. Let's see

(01:13:06):
if Byron send it like you said with the two
for after getting the stop, can take advantage here before
the half.

Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
Well, I mean, both teams have had pretty good field
position a couple of times, and still only three is
on the scoreboard.

Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
Five down Lemon for northfiew. Tongu Gate rolling to his right,
throws on the run, nice catch, going down to get
it and making it at the thirty yard line for
a first down and more. And that's Lake the wide
receiver for a gain of eighteen first in ten Bulldogs.

Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
Lake just runs a deep in route, gets good leverage
and nor if you're playing soft o at the top
to make sure they don't go deep, Lake cuts underneath
there and a good throw there by a ton Gate
good confident throw tet a downfield and pick up some
nicey yard.

Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
To first down to ten slot left. Tongue Gate rolling
that way, looking to throw again, throws on the run,
don Low Isaac Lad. Does he make the catch? No,
they say that skipped on the turf incomplete, great story.
Senior number eighteen wide receiver from Marc Cisco starts opposite
Isaac Lee. He's got twelve catches, second most coming in.
Obviously Lee is the big target, but one hundred and

(01:14:10):
twenty win yards and a couple of touchdown grabs to
ten on the opposite side for number three. That one
they'll unable to hook up Tongugate to Lee, so second
and ten stops the clock with two thirty left to
go here first half.

Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
Well, also, I'll be careful you don't leave too much
time on the clock. So barn Sara's gonna have to
be a little bit cagy here and try to get
that clock on the way down if they want to
get into the locker.

Speaker 1 (01:14:33):
Room with elite. Tonggate sends a man of motion, gonna
hand off that way, turning the quarter inside the thirty
and then closed down quickly. That's Alaska. They're defensively to
make the play for Northview. Gessner was over there. Also
number four, I tell you Brady Becker has played a
whale of a first half.

Speaker 27 (01:14:51):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
I talked about the defensive backs doing extremely good in
run support for Northview, and they have not disappointed here tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
Either get down till.

Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
Early and often Robock and Becker, and Becker coming all
the way from the safety spot.

Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
Good job too.

Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
By guessing they stretched that play Outlaska wanted to turn
it up field, just couldn't get the edge and Becker makes.

Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
The tackle Kellen Payn in the backfield. They fake the
hand off the am stas in the block tongu Gate
play fake going over the top, gun him in out
there touchdown Byron Center and it's Will Lake, his third
touchdown catch of the season. Boy, a nice pump fake
by Ton Gate and he was wide open in the
corner on the far side for the first touchdown of

(01:15:32):
the night for Byron Center.

Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Well, one of the few times that we've seen in
error in the defensive backfield for north View. The pump
fake freezes the backfield and then Lake just keeps running.
The route gets.

Speaker 1 (01:15:44):
Behind and there was just not enough time for the
safety to get over and tong Gate throws an absolute
bullet right and stride to Lake trying to make it
a seven point lead. Now is Dawson hillard snap is
a good one, hold us down, kick us up, plenty
of leg and it is good for number ten And
with one forty seven left to go here first half,

(01:16:04):
our first touchdown of the night. As Byron Center goes
over the top. They leaded ten to three over North View.
Welcome back to more as you're listening to the Drive
to Ford Field presented by Vandalin Home Improvement Live on
this Friday night here on ninety six to one the
game Catch the ninety six one the game Drive to
Ford Field presented by Vandaline Home Improvement as we followed

(01:16:24):
the West Michigan area teams in the MHSA High School
football playoffs. Three wide receivers to his left, the white
of the field too right, Hesitate staff, the staff big
hole cuts back of the ten.

Speaker 11 (01:16:34):
Ins on the five touchdown. Carson fists aren't.

Speaker 1 (01:16:37):
Coverage is also being brought to you by Lake Michigan
Credit Union, Kids Food Basket, Montel Construction, Trinity Hell, Jane
H Family Stores, Rapid Radios, Post, jeffs in Physical Therapy,
and Meyer.

Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Every hit, every play. This is came Knights on ninety
six to one the.

Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
Game, landing Tong Gains and Bellows Senior Will Lake over
the top twenty seven yards for the touchdown, connection Tech
on the extra point and it's ten to three now
Byron Center with the lead again, now fumbling the kickoff
return inside his tent, look at us to dance around
and finally dropped at the nine yard line. Nowhere to

(01:17:19):
go for Tyson Logan. And once he dropped the kickoff
kind of broke down his coverage. He just had to
try to get what he could. They're gonna give him
the ten yard line first and ten Wildcats there but
again one forty one left to go in only one
time out, not much time here for Ryan asknocking this
Wildcats offense.

Speaker 2 (01:17:37):
That's tough for Logan Tyson to dropping the football and
then you're hoping that maybe they could get down the
field and get some points on the board before halftime.
But now with over ninety yards ago because the fumble
by Tyson on the kick return, it's gonna be much harder,
especially with only one time outret.

Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Ten three Byron Center over Northview Wildcats with a football
irving back in the shotgun handoff gan'tide. Nice job by
Gant and had some blockers over that left tackle cross
the fifteen nol Markham shive the sixteen yard line, and
we invite you to stay with us as time out
Byron Center right here. We'll let you know Holst Jepson

(01:18:14):
Physical Therapy halftime show coming up, scores and more with
Cole and with Joe Aeron back in our studios in
downtown Grand Rapids. Plus, you're gonna hear a sponsors spotlight
interview with LMCU Vice President of Community Relations Matt Cook
recapping year three with our Touchdowns for Kids campaign. You
won't believe the number and the number of touchdowns. Fifty
dollars donation by LMCU for every touchdown during the regular

(01:18:37):
season for our Game of the Week coverage and also
the Lake Shore Game of the Week. By the way,
how about that one. Stay tuned for an update there
Whitehall in Division four at Forstill's Eastern our Lake Shore
Game of the Week with our other crew Jason Nutt
and Tom Kendra over at the home of the Hawks. Yeah,
a big matchup. That's a tough district too.

Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
I mean Big Rapids and Luddington the one four game
in that one and Luddington the pretty impressive season as well,
but Big Rapids at eight and one being the number
one seed, but so tightly packed. I mean you look
at the playoff point differential. I think it's a span
of like two points between the top three seeds. So
very competitive district.

Speaker 1 (01:19:14):
Second down and five and Irvin keeping it on the ground.
Gatt left side maybe got back to a lot of scrimmage.
We'll see as Mark Cisco now going to burn his
last time out, he's saying, hey, there's still time of
that clock. And the way my defense is playing well, it's.

Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
Also a defensive play because Now, what you're doing, Brett
with calling the timeouts is you're forcing north View if
they don't get the good yardage on second down there,
third down, they have to decide do they want to
try to get downfield and get some points and throw
a pass that could stop the clock if they don't
complete it or be run the football and if they
don't get it, then basically resign themselves to having a

(01:19:54):
touchdown deficit at the half.

Speaker 1 (01:19:55):
Plus I would love to have Isaac Lee get a
touch it by Mark Cisco on a slid return. Yeah,
and you know what he could do. He's dangerous. Wherever
he touches the football, he's taking it. Pick six is
back and a.

Speaker 2 (01:20:04):
Short field we've seen. I mean, that's the one odd
thing about today, Brett. You look at the field position.
You think, man, it's ten to three and these guys
are starting in each other's territory multiple times. But the
defensive efforts by both teams have been outstanding. In north
View finally gets burned by that short field in the
last drive for Byron Center.

Speaker 1 (01:20:23):
Boy, look at the safety's kind of uptight for Byron
Center on third and five handoff. Can't left side not
gonna get there. Good job by the BC defense. Isaac
Lee was there defensively to stop him short of the twenty.
At the nineteen, he'll be fourth in one. Boy, it
might not even be one. I mean that ball is
close to the twenty. Wow, we're gonna do a quick

(01:20:45):
kick here. Remember Armaan Irving is their punter.

Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
I think what they probably do here Brett with the
one time out is yeah, he's gonna take it down.
Maybe take it down and then call a timeout.

Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
He doesn't want to give him any time left. They
doesn't have to. No, boy, too, great coaches Ryan Osnach
and Mark Cisco and their staffs do a great child
love to watch the chess match going on in this
one ten to three hours score Byron Center over unbeaten
nor Few nine to all the Wildcats coming in. Last
time that happened folks nineteen seventy and now this time

(01:21:15):
out we'll take a quick time out. Don't forget the
halftime show coming up. So forty seconds left to go
first half. Welcome back to Wadhill Field after this on
ninety six to one.

Score and more coming up back of the studios of
Downtown ground Rappids with Joe Erni Colbany have Bret Pakita
along with Buck Gino. Final forty seconds left to go
first half, fourth and one for Northew and now they
drop back into punt formation after the timeout, Irving back
in his own five.

Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
I have that big spread punt formation two bretton not traditional,
so gotta be careful if your Byron center.

Speaker 1 (01:22:25):
I snapped rolling to his right Australian style with the
rugby kick and hits at the forty eight Byron center,
just clearing away favorable wildcat bounce. Good job by Armount
Irving inside the thirty five and that thing will roll
dead at the thirty three yard line. Plus it takes
time off the clock, so twenty eight seconds left for
Mark Cisco and the Byron Center offense up ten to three.

(01:22:47):
He'll talk with his senior quarterback landon toungate.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
And that's a great punt there by Irving to flip
the field and then Australian rules punting style. Man, it's
so effective when you do it, they're way like they
did it.

Speaker 1 (01:23:00):
But it's dangerous. It's dangerous for.

Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
Sure, but it also for the punk coverage team. It
also puts you in a little bit of conflict because
you know Irving's got the speed and right if you're
not paying attention, you know, I have enough guys out
there you can turn it up field. But that's a
great job there by Irving get the ball, kick it
that side winder motion, get the ball rolling the other
way and really did a great job of like I said, flipping.

Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
The field first down in ten five wide receivers empty set.
You know they work on a two minute trail and
just a quick fire out on the down and out
to Will Lake across the thirty five, makes the catch
and steps out of bounce that thirty seven. It could
serve time, no timeouts, rim any twenty five seconds left
and if you're Byron Center, obviously you want the touchdown.
But best hope is maybe you try to get it

(01:23:42):
in field goal range.

Speaker 2 (01:23:43):
Yeah, well, if you're gonna try to get it down there,
you're gonna have to take it more than five yards
of clips, and so you're gonna have to go downfield.

Speaker 1 (01:23:50):
Here, two wide receivers left, three to the right, safety
help both ways, Tom Gate looking looking got time, good
job by the offensive line, and now just gonna throw
it away.

Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
Well, that's drop a rush three and Senior kind of
I don't want to say half hearted, but very loosely
spying ton Gate if he takes off there. I mean,
Senior was the only guy that was in the vicinity
of throwing it. And there was just seven white jerseys
down there covering three Byron center defender receivers and they're
all running deep rout spread, trying to get that ball,

(01:24:20):
like you said, in the field goal range, but just
nowhere for tong Gate to throw, and now here with
eighteen seconds. Gotta be careful here on third and long
that you don't get caught and trying to make something
happen again.

Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
Just gotta be good with the football. Keyword here is trust,
right with your seniors, Trust with your senior quarterback, because
you could just take an ee and say, hey, we'll
go on to locker room up ten three ton Gate
back to pass, got time looking looking fires across the middlefield,
got his man could be at the forty trying to
get out of bounds, and he does with ten seconds
left on the crossing routes. Nice job on the catch

(01:24:56):
that time for Byron center landing Conrad another veteran senior.

Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Well they run deep crosses there and Conrad again with
rushing three north if he's gonna give tongu Gate a
lot of time and Conria just cuts underneath, gets leverage
and good throw there by tongu Gate. And now if
you're Byron centered, now you've got to get to the sideliner.
It's got to be a first down. Because they don't
have any way to stop the clock. They spot him
out to forty two.

Speaker 1 (01:25:22):
They go five wide receivers set here from the left,
hash three to the right, two to the left. Tong
Gate by himself, out of pistol formation, takes a snap.
Clock is ticket look out and he's gonna be hit
and hit hard. Someone misster block and Senora said, welcome
Landing Tonggates to the turf eared waddle Field. Oh boy,
that was a big hit and that is the way

(01:25:45):
the first half will end well and that could have
jarred the ball. I a great point there.

Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
I was just gonna say, he I mean, we have
that PSA with Alexandelone about getting hit by a truck.
That's about as close you're gonna get in high school
and you're a hitting you and Tongugate just never saw him.
It wasn't from the blind side, but just looking down field.
And they bring senior on a little delayed blex loop
them around and that's a great job by the defensive

(01:26:12):
coordinator from few good call there be a little bit
aggressive and as the first half, I mean, hey, I'm
telling you what the half they had offensively to get
out ten to three, They've got to be relatively pleased
that it's not more.

Speaker 1 (01:26:24):
What a football game. Division two District semi want Week
one on the Playoffs from the Drive to Ford Field
presented by vandal On Home Improvement and after one half
of play here at Waddale Field, our score Byron Center
ten nordfew three will send it back to the studios
for the whole s Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show with
our own Joe and Aaron. After this on ninety six

This is the LMCU High School Football Game of the
Week on ninety six y one.

Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
The game on this edition of our sponsor spotlights that
we'd like to do throughout the high school sports season.
We're going to start with our title sponsor. They have
been our presenting sponsor for years now and we've teamed
up with them the last three years for a program

(01:29:19):
called Touchdowns for Kids to benefit Kids Food Basket, and
we just wrapped up another season, year number three, and
I'm happy to announce as we bring in Matt Cook,
vice president of Community Relations at Lake Michigan Credit Union,
are total one hundred and twenty eight total touchdowns between
our Game of the Week on ninety six won the
game and the Lake Shore Game of the Week on

(01:29:40):
one oh seven. M Us the Moose Times that by
a fifty dollars donation from LMCU for every touchdown and
we went Matt over the six thousand mark. Sixty four
hundred dollars this football season.

Speaker 20 (01:29:51):
What an amazing opportunity to have impact. I love seeing
from an athletic performance standpoint, those touchdowns and what an
amazing number of touchdow the number of weeks that we had,
you know, eight ten touchdowns. You know, it was fun
to follow along. But really the most important thing is
that six four hundred dollars of impact that's going to
go support Kids' Food Basket and their mission of providing,

(01:30:13):
you know, the access to food for those kids that
need it.

Speaker 1 (01:30:15):
And I also want to say thank you to your
staff and the branch managers and the branch staff, because
wherever we went, there were tables out there, the folks
from Kids' Food Basket as well, people decorating bags so
many different ways, and that was kind of our theme
this year for people to get involved with the cause
didn't have to be necessarily a monetary donation. And so
thank you to your staff for doing a great job

(01:30:36):
this season, of course.

Speaker 20 (01:30:38):
And thanks to Kids Food Basket for joining us at
a lot of those sites, and really to the schools
for hosting us. So many times we'd reach out and
ask can we staff a table? And I think it's
the work that Kids Food Basket does in those administrators
and athletic directors recognizing the important need for continued awareness
and support for a.

Speaker 22 (01:30:56):
Cause like Kids Food Basket, you know.

Speaker 20 (01:30:58):
But again it's those team members here at MCU in
at Kids Food Basket that we're out there engaging. But
really all you fans that you joined us at those games,
you know, to be able to give back to the
mission of Kids Food Basket, and whether it was just
decorating a bag or making a donation or signing up
to volunteer as well, we love that and they have
really enjoyed the partnership and being able to support such
great costs and.

Speaker 1 (01:31:18):
High school basketball fans stay tuned because we're going to
do it again in December with Baskets for Kids. We'll
give you all the details courtesy of our friends at
Lake Michigan Credit Union. Well tis the season right now
is well and I want to invite people to go
to LMCU dot org. You can also stop buy any
local branch of West Michigan there are a ton of them,
or even through your school counselors at the high school level.
For high school seniors out there, it is the time

(01:31:40):
again for the Hunt Scholarship Program, and Matt tell us
a little bit about it in what the essay question
or questions that they're going to attack this year for
those essays.

Speaker 20 (01:31:50):
Yeah, well, we're really excited to launch another year of
our Hut Scholarship program. It's an honor of our founder,
who was a GRPs teacher, and so we award twenty
two thousand dollars scholarships and any high school senior that's
listening or if you have a high school senior in
your life can apply for this. And so we just
have a single FA prompt, which this year is what

(01:32:11):
sort of legacy do you want to leave? What might
that look like? And how will you live your life
to make that legacy or reality? And really excited again,
any senior can apply. They just have to answer that question.
It's not based on anything else. It's purely that SA
prompt and it's an opportunity for us to be able
to find out what those high school seniors legacies are,
but more importantly be able to support their journey into

(01:32:33):
higher education. And we know that the cost of higher
ed continues to rise, and so this is one small
way that we can help support that educational journey forhigh
school seniors.

Speaker 4 (01:32:43):
Don't have to be a member.

Speaker 1 (01:32:44):

Matt Cook is our guest vice president Community Relations for

We couldn't do it without them. Lake Michigan Credit Union. Matt,

(01:33:04):
thank you again so much.

Speaker 20 (01:33:06):
Of course, thank you Brett for all you're doing to
support ISOO Athletics, and good luck to all the teams
going to ford Field.

Devonport Panthers. They take on Saginaw Valley State this weekend.
Let's check in on this week's do you Football Report?

Speaker 1 (01:41:14):
All right, let's dive in another DU football report. Another
victory for the Panthers. They get it done on the road.
They are road warriors this year nineteen to fourteen over Gleac.
Newcomer Roosevelt University and coach Sparkan ecwitt Is joined us
once again. Coach, this one was a nail by on
the second half, but I know you're very proud of
your defense.

Speaker 4 (01:41:31):
It's really coming on right now.

Speaker 22 (01:41:33):
Well, they're all nail buyers, and man, I tell you what,
one of the best defense efforts that I've been associated
with my coaching career. We need every bit of it.
This team's you know, starting to play really well, especially
on that side of the ball.

Speaker 1 (01:41:45):
And I tell you what special teams as well. I mean,
how about the rocket again, full.

Speaker 22 (01:41:49):
Team effort once again, you know with Collins, you know,
running that thing back, you know, after came out of halftime,
and at two weeks in a row, now that we've
come out of that locker room, you know, playing with
our hair on five. Man, I feel good about where
we're at right now, especially at this time. We went into
a big game next.

Speaker 1 (01:42:04):
Week, so a kickoff return to start the second half,
and then you get the shutout in the second half
by your defense. So at six and two, five road
wins for your club, you go back on the road again.

Speaker 4 (01:42:15):
So you like your chances.

Speaker 1 (01:42:17):
But you know what you face in Saginaw Valley State,
a very good football team, and that was a great
game a year ago at your place.

Speaker 22 (01:42:23):
You know what the last couple of years, you know
that game has been one of the games that you
know you would have to win in order to have
a shot at the playoffs, and you know, we're deeming
it as an elimination game. You know, the team that
wins this football game gets to move on and have
a shot at also a GLIAC title and a shot
at getting in the national tournament. So we're pretty excited
about it. We're peaking at the right time. We're starting
to get a few more guys healthy back and man,

(01:42:43):
we want to be able to cut our best foot forward.

Speaker 1 (01:42:45):
Best of luck, Coach Bill Panthers.

Game halftime in Division two high school football Game of
the Week tonight Byron Center up a touchdown over North
for you ten to seven. We'll recap that first half
and breve you that second half. We'll head back to
wadel Field. Let's join Brettikita and buck Gino.

Speaker 1 (01:43:37):
All right, I guess the theme of the night is
tight games here, especially with rematches in week one. I
know how you feel about rematches, buck Gino. This wol
not a rematch, but certainly two teams that are familiar
with each other because they used to be the old
Okay White Division before realignment this year set them different paths,
and ten to three, Byron Center leads over Northview. At
the break, let's take you through our first half scoring

(01:43:58):
Summery in this one. It's brought to you by MKD
Funeral Homes said. Buckett was three after one, then Byron
Center with a loan touchdown of this game to make
it ten to three here going to the second half, well,
what we.

Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
Did not expect was a defensive struggle, but that's what
we've gotten. I wanted to tip my cap not only
to the players, but the coaches. I mean, the game
planning has been superb on both sides. We were talking
about it off air during the break and just a
lot of different looks from Northview. I was very impressed
with what they were able to do against a team
like Byron Center and a senior experienced quarterback like Landon Toungate.

(01:44:32):
But on the flip side, you also have a three
year starter in Armand Irving at Northview, and Mark Cisco's
team defensively has been very impressive holding them especially on
short fields. Right We've had a lot of short fields
in this game and just not able to cash in
until that first Byron Center touchdown.

Speaker 1 (01:44:50):
So a lot of opportunity for these offenses, but again
the defensive.

Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
Have risen to the occasion a Vandawan keys of the
contest for the second half with Byron Center. I really
feel Brett, they've got to get that running game going
to open up the passing a little bit more. I
feel like Landon Tungate has struggled and it's not him.
I mean, like I said, the defensive effort has been
great from Northview, disguising coverages, changing blitz looks, and they've
just been very confusing to Byron Center. And I think

(01:45:18):
if they get that run game going, get going downhill
with Payne and Alaska, they can open up some opportunities
and get those safeties to come in and creep in
and not be so able to cover the deep passes
and the deep outs that they're trying to get Isaac Leon.
For north View, the key for them is really I
think they've got to get some explosives here.

Speaker 1 (01:45:36):
They just haven't had a lot of explosives.

Speaker 2 (01:45:38):
The arm and Irving run for twenty five yards, they
were able to get that into a field goal, but
after that it's really been very little in the way
of explosive plays. Northfield's got to find a way to
get somebody in the open field and turn the field
that way and get some momentum for their offense.

Speaker 1 (01:45:54):
All right, there's your randal On Home Improvement Keys to
the contest, brought to you by randal On Home Improvement.
As we make those lives locker room second half adjustments.
With eighty years in the business, Bandelte Home Improvement offers
top notch contract or services to customers in West Michigan.
And don't forget the location up in Travers City, Jake
Johnson to kick it away, nor if you'll move left
to right in this third quarter on your dial, two

(01:46:15):
men back deep, including Carter Ahern for Byron Center and
Mark Cisco. We mentioned they won the toss and defer
to the second half up ten to three. Squipkicked by Johnson,
take them by one of the upman at the twenty
five across the thirty thirty five and BC will start
with great field position to start this drive out to
the thirty eight yard line and on the return that

(01:46:37):
time for Byron center and the upper level. As we
talked about one of the up guys that normally blocks,
that's Mason Sarver, the senior, well schooled, they're on special teams. Hey,
just get the ball fits kicked to you and get
up bield Well Johnson. We saw him at how Christian game.
Same thing.

Speaker 2 (01:46:52):
He's kind of the squib or short kick guy and
that time does exactly what he's asked. Squibs it make
sure they don't get a big return. But still, like
you said, Brett, nice field position to start the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:47:02):
Last getting motion from right to left, ton Gate out
of the pistil formation, handoff left side. Look got that's
Kellen Paid the senior inside the forty cuts back of
the thirty five and he shows his power and speed
on first in ten. We were talking about his younger
brother Cam who started the game the sophomore. But that's
thirty two Kellen Pain the senior inside the twenty eight

(01:47:22):
yard line to the twenty seven of the Wildcats. How
about that on first and ten.

Speaker 2 (01:47:28):
I mean I was thinking they might start to run
and get four or five a carry, but I mean
they pick up thirty five on first down there and
Kellen Payne just around the left end. Great blocking, good
down blocks by the receivers opened up that lane and
there's almost nobody in support.

Speaker 1 (01:47:43):
First down in ten out of the short shotgun Ton
gat inside the fifteen to ten and almost broke free.
He was head of the end zone, folks down to
the five yard line. Great job by that offensive line.
Huge creases in this first half of those first two
and second half. In this first two plays.

Speaker 2 (01:48:01):
I mean just right up the middle and you said
it just blowing open a hole in that north view
front seven and tong Gate just turns on the Jets
almost gets to Peydr but they're down inside the ten
first and goal.

Speaker 1 (01:48:14):
Now both paints are in there. They've got Kellen and
a tight end left cam in the backfield set to
the left of Tongue Gate. They'll motion Laska. They're just
gonna go power football that way. Tong Gate try to
dive to the goal line, He'll be stopped just short
at the one opening drive out of the locker room.
Impressive here, just bulldog running power football by Mark Cisco

(01:48:36):
and BC second and goal from the one, up ten
to three, This would be impressive. To try to make
it a two score game.

Speaker 2 (01:48:46):
Well, would force Northview, especially with the momentum coming out
of the locker room.

Speaker 1 (01:48:50):
But they'd almost have to.

Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
They feel like they'd have to answer very quickly with
the way their offense has been able to move down
the field or not.

Speaker 1 (01:48:57):
Tongue Gate gonna dive over the top touchdown Byron Center
right over center from the pistol formation, lambdon Tongate takes
it in it with ten sixteen left to go here
third quarter, Byron Center's opened up its lead now to
sixteen to three.

Speaker 2 (01:49:14):
Boy just right down the field Brett sparked by that
pain thirty five yard at the reime. Toutt that's a
great drive opening series for Byron Center, right down.

Speaker 1 (01:49:24):
The field and into the end zone. Dawson Hillard on
to try to tack on the extra point four PC
and make it a fourteen point advantage. Snap is a
good one, hold is down, plenty of time, kick is
up and it is good. So right out of the
locker room, not taking much time at all, Byron Center
puts another seven up on the board. It with ten

(01:49:46):
sixteen left to go into third quarter, it's Byron Center seventeen,
Northview three back with more from Waddale Field after this
on ninety six to one the game Brett Pikete of
ninety six to one the game here and knowing who
to trust when it comes to your next fencing project,
whether commercial or your own home, can be overwhelming. I
recommend Matt Fortuna and Joever Gowie and their great team

(01:50:07):
at straight Line Fence. They offer free residential and commercial quotes,
and these guys, when it comes to customer service, deliver
on timing and quality. Straight Line Fence is locally owned
and very competitively priced. But beyond the quality and the
price of the product, it's the personal touch that makes
Straight Line Fence the champion of fencing companies. See for
yourself at straight Line fences dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:50:27):
This is the LMCU High School football Game of the Week.

Speaker 4 (01:50:31):
On ninety six to one, the game.

Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
High end over end kick taking at the five, coming
to the far side turn of the corner, he's got
a nice edge block with penalty flight comes out of
the twenty five on the return of that time for
Northview was Tyson Logan. But this one thrown either an
illegal block in the back or a hold, and there
it is.

Speaker 2 (01:50:58):
I mean it's pretty It was pretty obvious from up here,
and the referee or the official that threw the flag
was looking at it even closer. So unfortunate for Northview
there Logan. Tyson did a great job of getting to
the fire side and thought he was gonna have another
big return by the block in the back and nails
that one short and now they'll start inside there on
twenty a rare poor fuel positions start for Northview.

Speaker 1 (01:51:21):
We'll recap that Bulldog scoring drive here in a moment
after this play. Fifteenth rushing touchdown of the season for
number four senior quarterback Landon Toungate needs just eighty eight
yards in this contest to go over the thousand yard
rushing mark for the season and well on his way,
but that one just a one yard over the top
dive into the endzelle and now Armount irving and the

(01:51:43):
Wildcats offense have to get it going down two scores,
shifting by Byron Cent up front play fake going over
the top Irving A J. Johnson oh off his fingertips
and incomplete pretty good tight coverage that time and right
there defensively for Byron Center. The coverage was Eli Farrell.

Speaker 2 (01:52:01):
Well, that was the first play that they tried from scrimmage.
Of course it was a little bit of a trick play,
but they went up top the first play from scrimmage
in the opening possession that they had in the first half,
and they tried again here you know dice though Irving
tried and drop in the bucket, but just great coverage
there on Johnson. Not a poorly thrown ball, but just
wonderful coverage. And now Byron Center is starting to move

(01:52:24):
some guys around and try to confuse Northview offensively.

Speaker 1 (01:52:28):
See if they continue that trend. Senior defensive back Alex
Wabbin out there wide on Logan. They go slot right
with AJ Johnson to the right of Irving from the
left hash handoff can't but able to really get a
lot of running room and stacked up again short game
to the twenty, give them a yard and a half
third and long coming up with the Wildcaps, and let's
recap that Byron Center scoring drive. Impressive. They started with

(01:52:51):
the football in the second half, coming out of the
locker room buck.

Speaker 2 (01:52:54):
Four plays a minute and forty four off the clock,
sixty two yards, all four of them run. Plays off
by a one yard touchdown run by Landon Toungate hillardacks
ePAT in the seventeen to three in favor.

Speaker 1 (01:53:07):
Of the Bulldogs. Third and long here for Northview, and
that's that's where the deep first down pass hurts you.
If you don't come up with it and you don't
get much on second, it really puts you behind the eighth.
Two wide receivers stacked in a line left side. Irvin
throwing right side, and that on an air and throw
didn't set his back feet. The back foot, I should say,
looking for Jake Johnson, the basketball player in compleate, right

(01:53:30):
in front of the Byron Center bench. And so the
Bulldogs get a three in out fourth and long and
Northview's got to kick it away. Kind of rushes that
one there. He had it open a Jenson.

Speaker 2 (01:53:39):
If he runs the out route and they throw the
timing correctly, he probably picks up the first down. But Irving,
as you said, Brent rushes to throw, throws it high,
doesn't step through, just kind of slings it off the
back foot a little bit and it sails on him
and now they'll have to punt the football back to
Byron center. So a tough one now because Northew's defense
is going to have to come.

Speaker 1 (01:54:00):
I'm big Van under some pressure gets it away. It's
the knuckleball and Isaac Lee trying to make the fair
catch win off his shoulder pads and he did hop
on the ball. Was Lucy muffed it at the forty six,
but number three did hop on it and save the day.
I wonder if he lost that one a little bit
and the lights kind of looking up. Well, the winds

(01:54:20):
died down, so we don't have that problem. It was
a knuckleball, but you said, Brett, it's not.

Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
It's kind of an end over end knuckleball there, and
that's tough. But he also doesn't want to let it
hit and lose a bunch of yardage. So it's a
tough one for those point returners back there on those
knuckleball Australian rules kicks. But I think he does the
right thing there, and he's lucky because he does muffet,
but he's able to recover and still gives Byron Center
a nice field position.

Speaker 1 (01:54:44):
And this is the danger though, and that Byron Center
has done so well this year. That's why they're eight
and one, folks, is when they smell blood in the
water is watch out for deep plays here and they
can do it. First down and ten. I know it
was all ground last time, but double handoff coming at
other way. Luke Laska nice cut as he got the
handoff from Campaign and he's across the midfield stripe the

(01:55:05):
big orange bulldog here at wad Ale Field to the
forty nine yard line. Effective for six yards second and short.
And what you're seeing now is the offensive line also
getting some chunk plays, getting some nice blocks up front.

Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
Well, they tried to go with the throwing the football
and being that as a feature, but it just was
not working. And as I mentioned to our keys of
the game, they just got to get back to that
ground attack. They can really go to work on that
front seven and suck the safeties down in.

Speaker 1 (01:55:29):
Kellen Payne was gonna be the lead blocker to the left,
but then Toungay realized the defense shifted that way, tried
to go back to his right. Nothing doing stopped right there.
Good job by the Northfield defense and the first guy
there was the backside linebacker Ben Duffy, the senior number eighteen.
No gain for Tongu Gates. That's up third and four
as we roll under eight minutes and ticking left to
go here third quarter, Byron Centers tacked on one more

(01:55:53):
here in the second half. They lead it by fourteen
seventeen to three over Northfield. Winner gets the winner of
Zealand West Tomskegan More with Shores tonight being played over
at Sailor Stadium. I'm sorry Traverse City, West Zealand West
Plain at their own stadium that they share was el
at East and they they got their hands for you
don't need to put them up in the visiom third

(01:56:16):
and ford, a penalty flag comes down, be third and
four for long yeah, before the snap, So that'll back
up Byron Center. You know, I will say this too,
for Byron Center typically very disciplined. We didn't have We
had them one time this year in the morning shorts game.
Didn't have a lot of penalties. They've had quite a
few pre stamp penalties.

Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
Tonight, Brett, and I think, you know, knowing Mark and
what he prides himself on, that's got to be driving
him absolutely up the wall right now because those are
unforced ares. That's not effort, that's just paying attention to details,
so you know, win or lose. He's going to be
talking about that in film review because they just can't
have that kind of stuff, especially when they've got the momentum.

Speaker 1 (01:56:54):
They're up two scores, got a short field, just can't
have it back themselves up to their own forty six
third and nine, Tongu gates lot left his two senior
wide receivers, throwing down of the run, got his man
Will Lake complete inside the north view forty held on
and got a foot down at the thirty six yard line.
Beautiful throw. And I love Tonguate when he rolls to
his right or left for all your young quarterbacks out there,

(01:57:15):
squares his shoulders, throws a nice football with the momentum
of him running with the weight behind him and doing
a nice job. Delivers a bullet that went perfect timing
to Will Lake for the down and out and get
the first out.

Speaker 2 (01:57:28):
Of They just have him drifts ever so slightly to
the left to give him a passing lane and then
Lake with the Lake across out route, gets the leverage
on the defensive back and just a wonderful ball by
tong Gate.

Speaker 1 (01:57:40):
There two backs in the back for your one each side.
This time the senior kin of Pain, big Hole cuts
back in the thirty still on speeding inside the twenty.
It's on the fifteen to ten five touchdown, killing Pain
from thirty six yards out. There's the blood in the
water we talked about. Byron Center now makes a three
score game with just over seven minutes left to go
in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:57:59):
Well you can after the first drive Byron Center getting
down to brass tacks and just running the football, power football,
and this time after a pass putting Kellen Payne getting
the ball running between the tackles and really, like I said,
going to work on that front seven of North US defense.

Speaker 1 (01:58:17):
Thirty six yards extra point upcoming on the run by
senior Kellen Payne, who really is kind of the Swiss
jack Knife, as Mark Cisco describes him. He'll play h back,
he'll play tight end, he'll play linebacker, and he'll run
the football as Hiller tacks on the extra point to
make it now twenty four to three Byron center, seven

(01:58:39):
to fifteen left to go into third. You're listening to
round one of the Drive to Ford Field presented by
Vandalott Home Improvement live on this Friday night here on

Speaker 4 (01:59:10):

Speaker 1 (01:59:11):
Doing it in honor of a student or school and
get a shout out during the game. Let's rally for
a future which all kids can get the good food
needed to reach their full potential.

Speaker 9 (01:59:23):
Back inside the nine six won the game, studios, let's
take a quick look at the rapid Radio scoreboard.

Speaker 10 (01:59:28):
We have an upset alert.

Speaker 9 (01:59:29):
We mentioned Grandville was up ten to seven at the half. Well,
the Bulldogs scored in a three yard pass from Ethan
newweb Bill to take Terry. They've extended the lead. The
Bulldogs of Grandville lead Rockford seventeen to seven, four forty
four to go in the third guys.

Speaker 1 (01:59:45):
Joe Errits is Elma mout of the Grandville Bulldogs trying
to knock off Rockford extend their lead. And I tell
you Eatan Newville the quarterback. They're one of the things
that we loved about the for Grandville. Remember they let
it half well we did them as the game of
the week against Rockford the regular season is he could
throw the football. They're not afraid to throw it. Buck
out of their different formations. They got a big tight
end and also the backs out of the backfield.

Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
Yeah, and I like Newville. He threw the football pretty well.
Sidinski one of his primary receivers. But you know that
t formation. I thought he did the.

Speaker 1 (02:00:14):
Ball, Oh ball pop loose. Irving just kind of rode
his the hip of his back and it popped loose
right into the hands of stubble Field, who comes up
with a fumble recovery and Byron Center now has it
first in tent inside the Northview twenty.

Speaker 2 (02:00:33):
As you mentioned, Bratt just armin irving, just a little
mesh play and they he just loses the handle and
went right into the Byron center defender's arms.

Speaker 1 (02:00:45):
I mean, he was just Johnny on the spot. He
just happened to be there.

Speaker 2 (02:00:48):
But that ball goes right to a Byron Center defender
and man goes.

Speaker 1 (02:00:53):
From bad to worse for the Wildcats. Want to correct myself,
Eli Farrell coming up to the bumble recovery stubblefield in
the area as well, but faral with the thumber recovery
and now Byron Center back to work pick hole pain
inside the five touchdown again calling Payne from twenty yards out.
There is a penalty flag hold on throw near the

(02:01:13):
line of scrimmage. I think they're gonna get a hold.
This one's coming back against Byron Center.

Speaker 2 (02:01:18):
Like I said the last time, when the umpire throws
it right in the middle of the line, there's probably
not gonna be a defensive penalty.

Speaker 1 (02:01:24):
That's exact see what happened.

Speaker 2 (02:01:26):
But boy, if you're Northview just reeling after I mean
two straight touchdown drives by Ron Center and then you
turn the ball over and then you give up a
big play which was going to be a touchdown until
it was called back. I mean, luckily for Northview that
stems the tide, but still can tell Brad very much
on their heels.

Speaker 1 (02:01:47):
Well, I tell you what Byron Center with back to
back home games before this one tonight really clicking with
that win held on against Muskegan. Then last year or
last week I could say with the Morris out of
Illinois state rank team down there, it got interesting after
they had the big lead and then kind of cruised

(02:02:09):
in the late quarter to win easily by double digits.
As Kellen Paine now trying to bounce it outside Senora
with the stop going down number for a short gain
at the twenty five second and fourteen remember after the
penalty coming up six p forty and ticking left to
going to third. But Byron Center after the fumble recovery

(02:02:30):
trying to cash in more here.

Speaker 2 (02:02:35):
Well, I mean between the tackles for Byron Center has
been where they've been able to cash in and that
time they run pain around the end. A good job
by Northview pursued. They do very well stretching the field
sideline the sideline, it's been between the tackles that they've
had to have trouble.

Speaker 1 (02:02:51):
With two wide receivers to the right, also a wing
back Alaska as Tonga wants to roll that way. SAT's
got a man open, wide open. Isaac Lee touched down
twenty five yards Tonguegate to leave four to three. Tack
on six more and Byron Center having a big third
quarter offensively as they push that lead out to thirty

(02:03:13):
to three.

Speaker 2 (02:03:14):
Buck Well, if there's one guy that you don't want
to lose track of in the Byron Center jersey, it's
number three Isaac Lee. And somehow, some way he gets
into the defensive backfield unaccompanied, and Tongugate just rolls a
little bit to the right, waits for sets his feet
and plans for one right on the hands of Isaac Lee,
who's had this.

Speaker 1 (02:03:34):
He's kind of struggled tonight. Brett had a couple of drops.

Speaker 2 (02:03:37):
But uh boy, I mean, you're not gonna drop it
when you're that alone.

Speaker 1 (02:03:41):
And that's a big play for the Bulldog till your
tax on one more was six oh six left to
go into third. Three touchdowns in this quarter put up
and unanswered by Byron Center. They leaded thirty one to
three over north View. As you're listed Division two District

Speaker 1 (02:04:44):
As we go for this second half, Repikita Buck Gino
Welki back to Wadhill Field here in Byron Center. Joe
will pop in with Rapid Radio scoreboard updates. As the
return now coming near side and knocked out of bounds
near the thirty yard line. Brady Becker on the return
for the Wildcats, spot them right at the thirty. We

(02:05:27):
If that's Rapid Radios dot com. Grandvill's increased their lead
over Rockford. We'll check in when we get a chance
with Joorrant or the next stoppitch handoff Senior a big
hole on the left side Lawyers's shoulder, and he's got
a first out, crashing out across the forty to the
forty two yard line. And but you know you talked
about that we didn't maybe see enough of that in
the first half, but now maybe like they did in

(02:05:48):
that Holland Christie game of the second half just kind
of went to Senior a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:05:52):
Well in that game they were not down thirty one
to three. I mean, you got to get him out
of the bullpen a little bit earlier.

Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
Unfortunately, handoff again, he runs hard number six over the
right side and they'll up end him. Just shy the
forty seven at the forty six game of four second
and six. How impressed are you though, with Byron center
in this third quarter? And they have that spurt ability
if you will, three touchdowns to really open this up.
It was a ten to three game if you're just

(02:06:19):
tuning in at.

Speaker 2 (02:06:19):
The half, and they took the first drive of the
second half, went right down the field, running the football
effectively and powerfully, getting the ball back in a short
field doing the same thing, and then the turnover.

Speaker 1 (02:06:31):
Really I think the clincher for Neurthview. Jake Johnson wide
left by himself seeing you're a right over center with
a big hole into bulldog's territory. He's got another first
down inside the forties, got some speed to the thirty eight,
move the chains first and ten.

Speaker 2 (02:06:48):
And again, Brett, I mean, we're never gonna sit here
in second guess, but I mean, Wilson, you're a clearly
the better back of the two tonight. And Jalen Gant
had his troubles between the tackles, and like I said,
we talked about him being dinged up for the Holland
Christian game. They're trying to limit his steps. Maybe the
same thing again here, but gotta go. Now with the deficit,
you kind of empty the whole shooting match.

Speaker 1 (02:07:10):
He was our player of the game, remember offensively in
that brought to you by Uptown Chiefs Kate and just
ran so hard as campaign. Now gonna check in for
his older brother Kellen at linebacker. Gain of five on
that last run by Senora, second and five inside the
BC thirty five to thirty three. Now they go wide
Senora left side, trying to turn up squares, the shoulders

(02:07:30):
lowers the boom inside the thirties, close to that first
down marker four eleven, anticking left to go to the thirties,
got the first down. Buck, they'll move the chains by
about the length of the football first and ten Wildcats.

Speaker 2 (02:07:43):
Oh, this is kind of what you felt like North
you would have to do to be successful. Unfortunately, now
down four scores. Is it too little too late? We'll
find out.

Speaker 1 (02:07:54):
Irving Now back to pass out of the shotgun. Beautiful
throwing ball and almost stepping in front of Wobin to
catch that in the end zone was Tyson Logan. I
think he's as surprised as we are. He didn't come
up with it because he did a nice job, but
cutting in front of Woban, who was watching the ball
but not necessarily saw the move by Logan the defender
move inside of him.

Speaker 2 (02:08:15):
Yeah, I mean Wobman was probably the best one to
catch that bright but the Logan Tyson just maneuvers underneath
and almost picks it away and gets a touchdown instead.

Speaker 1 (02:08:24):
It just ends up looking like great defense by Tyson.
I formation old throwback here. Jake Johnson wide right, irving
pop pass up the middle, hits the tight end still
on his feet inside the ten, and finally ripped down
first in goal the nine yard line. I tell you
he's been effective with that tonight. That's Jack van Proy,
another one of their basketball players, playing tight end number

(02:08:45):
eight on the left side, first and goal from the nine.
Van preyen tight end left tight end stack to the
right as well. I formation from under center handoff seniora
left side A little hurry up mode now obviously for
northfet you down to the five. Second in goal is
three to twenty seven and ticking left to go. Third quarter.
Being brought to you by Kids Food Basket, our official

(02:09:07):
nonprofit for the LMCU High School football Game of the Week,
nourishing local kids to reach their full potential. We got
a big number to share with you for our kids
Touchdown for Kids campaign. Handoff Senior stacked up that time.
Better job by the Byron Center defense right at the five,
no game, third and goal coming up, and how about
this book, Gino. We wrapped up the regular season last week,

(02:09:30):
Week nine in our final number of touchdowns between our
Game of the Week and Lake Shore Game of the
Week for nine straight weeks, one hundred and twenty eight touchdowns.
That's sixty four hundred dollars donated by LMCU to help
out Kids Food Basket. We can't thank them enough and
hopefully had a chance to hear from Matt Cook as
part of our halftime show. Third and goal from the

(02:09:52):
five down thirty one to three Wildcats, tight trips to
the left side from the left hash they mean aj
Johnson in motion rolling right, option to throw it. He's
gonna try and run it and knocked out a bounce
a J. Johnson inside the two and about the one
and a half they had Van Preyen back in the

(02:10:13):
backside of the end zone kind of dragging across the
field as an option to throw it to.

Speaker 2 (02:10:17):
Yeah, that was pretty much a halfback option. From the
get go, and they didn't really disguise it too much.
But Johnson I thought maybe would have pulled it if
he pulled it down earlier there instead of running laterally
to the sideline right. He kind of just ran himself
out of space there and didn't have enough time to
cut it up field, because I think the defender was
able to use the sideline as that twelfth defender.

Speaker 1 (02:10:38):
Power I formation Senora from fourth and goal from the two.
As he in boy, it certainly looked like it touchdown,
nor few delayed call I thought he got it initially
BC thought they had him stopped. But number six will
Senora with a touchdown run right over center of the

(02:10:58):
right guard them two yards out. Makes it now a
thirty one to nine game extra point up coming by Sanchez,
who does have a field on this one now trying
to teck on the extra point here, still plenty of time.
One fifty seven left to go into third movement up

(02:11:19):
frump and they didn't say he jumped off side, so
the play goes on, kick us up and it is
good by Sanchez. So one fifty seventh left to going
court number three here at wade All Field, tach on
seven for Northfield and our score reads Byron Center thirty
one nor few ten. You're listening to the Drive to
Ford Field presented by Vandelano Improvement here on ninety six

J In the nine six one the game studios with
a rapid radio scoreboard, Grandville has extended their lead on
a seventy three yard run by Tank Terry. Granville leads
Rockford twenty four to seven. That's in the fourth quarter, guys,
we have scoring in the Division III. Forest Hill Central
has frandly gotten on the board. They lead these Grand
Rapids seven to nothing. And in our Lake Shore Game
of the Week start of the fourth quarter, Whitehall has

(02:12:39):
now come back. They leave fors Hills Eastern twenty one
to fourteen.

Speaker 1 (02:12:44):
All right, it's gonna be an interesting mini scoreboard show
coming out as part of our post game show coverage
from Wade Field. We'll go back to the studio to
wrap up our coverage tonight Joe Aaron and Colvin he
as they did all season long, we'll take you through

little bit slower than the normal pace with all the

Stay with us. By the way, our Wing Doozy fan
of the game coming up in the fourth quarter as well,
twenty five dollars gift card to Wing Doozy just down
the road here for Byron Center fans, listen for the
Q to call me the correct caller. First down and
ten tongue game with a man in motion left right,
gonna run that way and he's stacked up after a
short gain at the thirty three on the tackle defensively

(02:13:27):
for Northview is Danny Robock.

Speaker 2 (02:13:30):
Yeah, Roebock and coming up from that safety spot and
he can lower the boom and you know, this is
what Byron's hair is going to want to do. They're
gonna want to start to go to work on the clock.
So they're gonna go a little bit slower here, but
probably a lot of running the football as we've seen
here in the second half and really tried to go
work on that clock with a twenty one point lead.

Speaker 1 (02:13:52):
But Northview is not gonna go away.

Speaker 2 (02:13:53):
We know that they play with a lot of pride,
and so Byron Sare does have to be careful with
the football, make sure they don't let nor few back
in this one.

Speaker 1 (02:14:02):
Second down in nine after game of just one on
the quarterback keeper by Tong Gay. This time I'm gonna
head off the pain. Why not. He's been the go
to guy the third quarter breaking a tackle. Look at
how strong is at about two fifteen two twenty flows
his way out across the forty to the forty one
yard line. Great story here in Kellen Payne. Obviously a
football family, but he's an outstanding baseball player. Didn't play

(02:14:24):
last year put gino and he's played so many different
positions for Markxisco. We want to focus on baseball, but boy,
what a nice addition to their roster this year as
a senior.

Speaker 2 (02:14:32):
Well it helps him too, because not only are they
of force running the football, but Luke Alaska dinged up
in the early part of the season. He's usually been
the power guy for the Bulldogs, but now the Pain Brothers.

Speaker 1 (02:14:44):
That's a great name, by the Pain Brothers.

Speaker 2 (02:14:46):
I couldn't, but I mean, that's such a great addition
for them because Laska being dinged up. They stepped in
right where he left off. Tong Kay quarterback keeper.

Speaker 1 (02:14:54):
On third and one, He's got the first down and
more across the forty five out near the midfield stripe though.
Mark him the BC side at the forty nine and
that will probably be the final play of the third quarter.
First in ten to move the chains as Buck matched
up thirty one to ten. Byron Center just wants to
shorten this game and that'll do it as we reach

(02:15:14):
triple zeros and the third, so we head to the fourth.
Our score this Division two semi final Byron Center thirty
one Northview ten back with more here at BC after
this on ninety six to one Thicke eight.

Speaker 1 (02:16:33):
The game first down in ten to start the fourth quarter.
As we switch ends to the field in side hand
off to campaign the sophomore. On the counteraction from right
to left, he takes into Northview territory, dropped in the
forty eight after a gain of three second and seven,
and who wants the wing's best wings in West Michigan

(02:16:54):
with wing dooozy. If you've won before this season, you're
not eligible, but we're going to take caller number five.
I'll give you a number after this play. That's caller
five to our studios. And again, if you won before,
you're not eligible this season. Twenty five dollars gift card
to join some wings this weekend. On a second down
and seven, ton Gate right side finds a little hole,
he gets skinny and inside the forty five to the

(02:17:15):
forty two yard line. He's about a yard short of
that first down marker. A nice pick up there by
ton Gate sets up third and one. Caller five right
now to six one six four five four thirty seven
seventy six. Cole Benia is standing by in the studios.
That's caller five six one six four five four thirty
seven seventy six. Good luck will announce our wing Doosey

(02:17:36):
fan of the game coming up in our post game
show once we are done here with triple zeros. In
this one, it was ten to three at the break
and now an offensive explosion Byron Center leads it thirty
one to ten. It was thirty one to three until
that last touchdown by Norfew offense and so moving up

(02:17:57):
front well as a penalty flag.

Speaker 2 (02:18:00):
Do you want to know what I think Coachisco is
gonna talk about tomorrow when they review film. It's probably
gonna be our gay guy as we go on what number?
Because I mean that's gotta be what Brett the fourth Yeah,
the fifth false start that they've had, soh Coach Cisco
is not gonna be too pleased about that, But I
will say this, I mean he's gonna be very happy
about their performance in the second half because they have

(02:18:23):
really exerted some dominant play up front and run the
football very well compared to the first half where they
were not able to get untracked.

Speaker 1 (02:18:32):
Hand off from left to right, cutting up campaign. The
sophomore off to the race is twenty fifty ten five touchdown.
He saw his senior brother do what he said, I
can do it too. Campaign takes it from forty two
yards out and the Bulldogs extend their lead to thirty
seven to ten.

Speaker 2 (02:18:50):
That'll make him forget about the false start. That's a
great job there. And they run a little counteraction there
with Campaign. They roll it over, Cam cuts around counter
to the right side and this the linebacker leaves the
gap and then he gets sealed off and Campaign. I
don't know if the brothers race, he might be able
to beat Kellen. Yeah, but boy just takes off there

(02:19:11):
and goes right up the scene for the touchdown.

Speaker 1 (02:19:14):
Extra point up coming on the way. It is up
and it is good. So when ten eleven left to
go on this one Byron Center strikes pay dirt again.
The sophomore Campaign forty two yards on the ground, tack
on the extra point and they now lead it over
Norfview thirty eight to ten. We'll step aside with the

(02:19:34):

We see all of you, hey, high school football fans,
if maybe you're leaving a game and you want to
check out some action. Whitehall has gone in front. Now
from the last report from Joe Aaron, things are getting
interested with that Lake Shore game of the week at

(02:20:29):
Forestill's Eastern in Division four and now Pedley fly gonna
come out? Is the Northfew retort man just kind of
gave himself up and went down. He was surrounded by
bulldogs in the sixteen yard line and then there was
some contact. Pedley flag comes out. But go over to
one oh seven point nine wmus the Moose, Jason Hutt
and Tom Kender with a call. There sounds like they're
gonna have a tight finish in that one, and we

(02:20:52):
both thought Buck that that would be a really good
came and how many good quarterbacks can Forestill's Eastern see
as far as the playoffs, right, remember Carson Fiss last
year and now they get camp Thompson this year.

Speaker 2 (02:21:03):
And not only to say that, but even in the
regular season Grady Augustin, right, and you know Jackson who
put for Unity. I mean they see quality quarterback play
a lot. And so Camden Thompson we saw him a
week one and we came away with thinking, well, he
hasn't played quarterback.

Speaker 1 (02:21:22):
Sure, Plus it was Unity Christian we didn't know.

Speaker 2 (02:21:24):
Right, and they're playing probably one of the better teams
in the state that we did not know at the time.
And Camden Thompson has rounded into form. Now they are
a little bit banged up, but who's not at this
time of year. But he's kind of rounded into form.
Four The Vikings, but boy Fort Soill's Eastern, they knew
they were going to have a struggle in that district.
It was gonna be tough either way, and they're in

(02:21:46):
for a big one there at Hawk Stadium.

Speaker 1 (02:21:48):
First down at ten after they mark off fifteen hourd
personal file penalty with a late hit. I guess is
the call now going up top? Wobbin knocks it away.
They were looking for. They've gone quite a bit to
number fourteen tonight with that matchup Tyson Logan. But the
secondary for Byron Center for the most part is hands
of the bell. We did have farroh with the interference
in the end zone, but it dide a nice job

(02:22:08):
against quality wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (02:22:09):
And they've been trying to go to Logan Tyson who's
been working against Wobbin and Robbin's done a great job.

Speaker 1 (02:22:15):
It's been pretty good coverage.

Speaker 2 (02:22:17):
Even though Tyson has almost come up with a couple
of balls, they really haven't gone to Johnson through the
air very much.

Speaker 1 (02:22:23):
Only a couple times in.

Speaker 2 (02:22:24):
The second or excuse me, the first half, and none
here in the second half that I can remember.

Speaker 1 (02:22:28):
Second down and ten handoff left side, see you're a
big hole, cuts back and close to the first town
marker across the forty out to the forty one gate
of nine, sets up third and short nine clockett twos
to wind nine forty six and ticking left to go. Well,
I mean that's great.

Speaker 2 (02:22:45):
You know Wilson, youra o, I said, maybe you dialed
it up a little bit earlier, but now down thirty
eight to ten, I mean, it's it's gonna be there
for him because if I'm Byron Center. I let them
run the football and takes that time.

Speaker 1 (02:22:57):
Off the clock. Why do reminder stay with us for
a discount Door Poe Scape show. Once we're done here
at Wadale Field, Third and shorts, Senora take that back.
It was Senora on the lead block that time in
there is an h back and we've seen that before.

Speaker 2 (02:23:12):
It was handed in there. Yeah, you know when he
comes into the game. Yeah, most likely between the tackles.
They did try that play action though down on the
goal line. That work, But usually when Easton comes in,
it's gonna be a run play and it's gonna be
power and that's exactly what happened there.

Speaker 1 (02:23:28):
He is a smart kid, by the way. We'll tell
you more at Easton handed in three point eight student
ap classes. I think it took me all four years
to get to three point in first out in ten
Armoud Irvin play action wants to air it out of
the sideline, almost intercepted. They were looking on the streak
for a j Johnson and Alex Waben came flying in
and almost had it, had it in his hands, but

(02:23:50):
couldn't come down with it.

Speaker 2 (02:23:51):
I mean, I don't want to ruin the Montel Construction.
Defensive player of the game, Brett, But I mean, I'm
telling you right now, we've had seven on our lips
a lot and it's all been good. Robin almost picks
that one off there, just coming underneath. Great read there
sees Rubing going down the sideline and underthrows it a
little bit. But that's a great break on the ball
by Robbin. Just couldn't bring it down. One wide receiver

(02:24:12):
each way, tight end stack to the right.

Speaker 1 (02:24:14):
They're gonna run that way, Sinora Senora across the forty five.
Luke Laska hops on for a ride to the forty
seven yard line. Will send You're a tough kid, strong
game of five there sets up third and five.

Speaker 2 (02:24:28):
We've seen a lot of deep shots on first down
Brett from Northview, and that has to be the game
plan that they came up with, because you know, they
were thinking that Byron Center would be selling out on
the run. But now with the score of the way
it is, they will gladly give that up and off.

Speaker 1 (02:24:43):
Siniora runs into a wall, bounces outside, keeps the feet moving.
Kellen Payne tries to corral him, but I think he
fights his way up the sideline on the far side,
across the midfield stripe and close to that first down
marker at the BC forty eight. Not sure where they
did they give him to Yeah, they're gonna give to
it forty seven.

Speaker 2 (02:25:00):
Well, they're gonna measure to your enjoyment, because you know,
that's probably your favorite part of the game is when
they actually measure they get the Chain Gang involved.

Speaker 1 (02:25:08):
Well, to me, it just makes sense because that's why
they're out there, right. If guys are volunteer, they're in.
They don't get paid anything. At least let them move
a little bit there. Now, they're gonna give them a
first down I think they do. They have a problem
with the change they do. Well, they had to get
out of the way because Luke Lasko has.

Speaker 2 (02:25:25):
Come in with ill intentions, and so the Chain Gang
abandoned ship, and I don't think they knew exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:25:32):
Where, and you know what they said, you know it's
close enough, first down, first and ten. They'll wind the
clock as we approach eight minutes left to go on
this one thirty eight to ten Byron sent over North
You play action irving deep drop sets now flushed out
of the pocket, gonna run it inside the forty five stays.
This lowers the shoulder and close to the first down

(02:25:52):
mark again inside the forty dives down to about the
thirty seven yard line. They'll give them the first down.
Did stay in bounds and the clock will stop momentarily.
Now they'll wind it as they said the chains mentioned
the Discount Door postgame show brought to you by our
friends Discount Door and Grand Rapids providing services and installation
since nineteen ninety. Stick Around will announce a Uptown Chiefskate

(02:26:15):
Offensive Player of the Game, Montel Construction Defensive Player of
the game. First down in ten handoff, Oh Senora never
had a chance fighting off the block that time and
doing a great job defensively was big number seventy and
that's Aiden van Dam.

Speaker 2 (02:26:31):
I mean he just took his blocker for a ride
and got it into the backfield and dragging down seniorra
one of the few times we're gonna see will Senira
get hit behind the line of scrimmage and go down great.

Speaker 1 (02:26:48):
At all game, I know there's been a wall there.

Speaker 2 (02:26:50):
I mean the seniors had a couple of big runs,
but it's been tough sweating for.

Speaker 1 (02:26:54):
The Wildcat loss of three On that one, Signora and
Senora hit again trying to get positive yardage and dropped
maybe to the thirty nine. Kellen Payne got am around
the ankles and dropped him the linebacker. As we wind
under seven minutes left to go. Well, but gino, we'll
find out and announce on Monday morning on Wood Radio's
Morning Show, where we're gonna be also ninety six one

(02:27:14):
the game. Obviously some upset specials might change our initial
plans a little bit, but we'll be somewhere for district
final action next week. On the Drive to Ford Field,
presented by a vandal On home Improvement.

Speaker 2 (02:27:26):
Well, some teams that we know are uphold on.

Speaker 1 (02:27:30):
It's gonna be very interesting. Lookout Irving under some pressure
and going down hard in the backfield as Van Preyen
makes the catch that he's dropped at the thirty and
oh boy, holding his right shoulder, you hope he's all right.
He came flying in high and then went down on
the turf for BC. That was Stubblefield number fifty, Nolan Stubblefield.

(02:27:53):
I tell you what, if Irvin didn't duck, he was
coming high.

Speaker 2 (02:27:58):
In Stubblefield kind of fortunate there that he didn't get
a piece of the face man, because I mean nothing bad.

Speaker 1 (02:28:04):
He wasn't trying to grab.

Speaker 2 (02:28:05):
He just irving ducked under and all of a sudden
Stubblefield's reaching where his chest was, and now his head's there.

Speaker 1 (02:28:11):
Short of the first time mark though fourth and three,
since you're over the left side close to it, I
think he's got it with that second effort he does
inside the twenty seven by the length of the football,
that'll move the chains first in ten nor few. Well,
for all the highlights and this one and all the
highlights of all the playoff action, don't forget. We've got

(02:28:31):
tomorrow and then one final Saturday Fox seventeen Blitz moving
to Saturday morning from nine to nine thirty. I'll be
in there with the crew, Remy and tom tomorrow morning,
nine to nine thirty for all the highlights in week
one of the playoff action. They keeping on the ground
on first down and ten on to carry that time
for the first time. Tonight, Orlando Fasquez the senior and

(02:28:56):
he powers his way down to the twenty two yard
out of BC.

Speaker 2 (02:28:59):
I mean, senior has been pretty hard, you know, Gint
has been running the ball, so kind of getting into
that deep bench now slot.

Speaker 1 (02:29:07):
Right one receiver left, Irving back to pass, looking looking
rolling to his right, now gonna tuck in and run.
Got a nice seal block, put his foot in the ground,
cuts back to his left inside the twenty. He's got
a first down down of the sixteen yard line. Give
the Wildcats credits still playing hard out there offensively and
again some of these guys seniors, maybe playing in their

(02:29:29):
last football game of their high school career. A nice
job though on the decision that time about the quarterback
armunt Irving.

Speaker 2 (02:29:35):
A lot of defenders, big soft zone there by Byron
Sara just not allowed a room to throw the football
first and ten.

Speaker 1 (02:29:42):
Irving runs to the wide side of the field to
his left inside the fifteen down to the eleven yard line.
Give him five second and five they could pick up
a first down inside the BC seven. Running out of time, though,
is norfew after this impressive second half, especially that third quarter.

(02:30:02):
To open things up, BC lead hit thirty eight to
ten from the middle of the field, Irving handoff senior
up back in their running back plowed his way inside
the five, spins out of a tackle, dives to the end.
So touchdown from eleven yards out his second rushing touch
to the night, and you love the effort by the
senior Will Sendor. That was an impressive run. Buck Chino

(02:30:27):
just gives you everything he's got and we saw that
with those three rushing touchdowns in that game against Holland
Christian we covered two weeks ago Byron Center.

Speaker 2 (02:30:38):
More than accommodating, they'll let Northview take a lot of
time off the clock to get that seven points.

Speaker 1 (02:30:45):
Extra point umping good by Sanchez. He's been perfect on
the night and was four oh seven left to go
on this one. Our score now reads Byron Center thirty
eight Northfew seventeen time out of the field. So we'll
step uside as well. You're listening to the dry I'm

(02:33:29):

Speaker 2 (02:33:31):
Could be could be a long afternoon for football fans tomorrow.
Indiana nine Indiana the story of the year. I think
in college football nine and zero Indiana Hoosiers, if you
said that at the August, you would have been committed.

Speaker 1 (02:33:47):
First down and ten handoff, left side, keeping on the ground. Obviously,
Fyron center with that lead, and I'll throw him back
after he got out. Four progress to the thirty seven campaign,
the sophomore second down and eight. We'll see if Norfew
tries to stop the clock here. The two we'll keep

(02:34:09):
it right here and tell you our full slate of coverage.
Four is still Central, by the way, is now final
over East Grand Rapids even to nothing. So that's two
straight games they played last week as well, the East
Grand Rapids could not score against the Rangers.

Speaker 2 (02:34:23):
I mean, we saw the Rangers in Week four against
South Christian. Now we didn't know South Christian at that
time would kind of go into a tail spin, but boy,
that Ranger defense was so impressive against Carts and Biss
and the Sailors.

Speaker 1 (02:34:40):
And they are very, very tough.

Speaker 2 (02:34:41):
I mean, you look at the teams they lost to
Right Unity Christian Zealand West one combined loss between those
two teams and the Rangers, man, they really really hang
their hat on defense. Dave fourteeno his first year, doing
a fantastic job replacing the retired Tim Rodgers and and boy,
I mean that's you talk about a team that has

(02:35:03):
risen to the occasion with all the talent that they lost.
You know, people were kind of thinking, what are we
gonna have here? Well, the Rangers have just not missed
the beat and done very well in two straight shutouts
for FHC.

Speaker 1 (02:35:15):
Second eight from their thirty six Jets sweep near side
trying to turn the corner bomb back across the forty
five and he's got the first down out to the
forty eight yard line. Little Jet sweep that time, and
it was will bombback this sophomore. We mentioned they've got
a few sprinkled in like campaign as well, good athletes
to kind of supplement the juniors and seniors on this squad.

(02:35:37):
First down at ten Mark Cisco always does a nice
job that. I mean, just look at the seniors this year.
Isaac Lee landed Tonggate, I mean Alaska.

Speaker 2 (02:35:45):
I mean Coacisco never afraid to put kids in regardless
of what class train if they can get the job done.

Speaker 1 (02:35:51):
Fake to bomback tong Gate though, nice job reversing field
inside the forty makes a man miss. Now comes near
side still on his feet, got blockers in front, inside
the twenty down, inside the fifteen to the thirteen yard line.
What a run by landing Tong gains and inside the
red zone. Now after the senior quarterback makes a few

(02:36:11):
men missed first out in ten BC. Let's go back
to Joe Art now in the studio. Upset watch here
in other playoff actually area, What do you got for us? Joe?

Speaker 9 (02:36:20):
Yeah, we already mentioned Granville Leeds Rockford. But I don't
know how much time is up, but it is late
in the fourth quarter. Kaufin hit Murphy on a fifty
seven yard touchdown pass. East Caentwood is just taking the
lead on Hudsonville twenty three to twenty two.

Speaker 1 (02:36:33):
Guys, Wow, how about that both the favorites as far
as seeding could go down to that Division one district
we call it the Okay Red Tournament. Is now East
Kentwood has taken a late lead on Hudsonville. The outright
Oka red champs paint over the left side inside the
ten down to the eight yard line. Give him five
second and five o'clock continues to wind. So we're thinking

(02:36:56):
bucks Sheeta Like most people, Hudsonville Rockford rematch could be
real right for next week, could be East Kentwood Granville.

Speaker 2 (02:37:03):
Well, we haven't covered Hudsonville, Nouri's Kentwood, so we might
be able to go over there anyway. But man, if
you looked at that bracket, I mean you just looked
at it. Rockford and hudson to both home teams possibly
losing their first round games.

Speaker 1 (02:37:18):
I mean, that's just wild stuff. But that best off football.
Rockford took a party he's kept last week and week
absolutely second and five BC. Knock on the door again
for the north few eight. Yeah, Schwartz wide right and
now penalty flags come out again. Okay, I will say
it now because you've said it already. Yes, Coach Cisco

(02:37:40):
is gonna address this coming up with practice tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:37:42):
Correction, he's lucky that they're up twenty one because he
would have had his hair pulled out already.

Speaker 1 (02:37:48):
Thirty eight to seventeen. Move them back five second and
ten as the clock will wind minute fifteen ticking left
to go. We mentioned the discount door post game show
stayed with us. We'll hand out some war shorts Uptown
Chiefs Kate offensive player of the game of this one,
Montel Construction Defensive Player of the game. Plus we'll play
back our j H Family Stores. Highlight of the game
is now Land and Tongue gonna get a nice ovation

(02:38:11):
from the crowd coming out.

Speaker 2 (02:38:12):
Officially, I think they saw him run down the field
and make all those their like please fall down with
God a game next pleak.

Speaker 1 (02:38:19):
Backup quarterback in there and inside the ten that calls
his own number down to the nine yard lines. Whitchers.
I think at Easton White Chers, the junior air apparent
next year is Isaac Lee coming back in thirty eight
to seventeen our score fire and center trying to approve
to nine to one of the season. For Norfew, it'll

(02:38:41):
be their first loss of the season and still trying
to get over that playoff stigma of trying to get
their first win in the playoffs in school history.

Speaker 2 (02:38:48):
Well, I mean their first nine to oh campaign since
nineteen seventy, their first playoff person in twenty eighteen. Coach
Ash still clearly has them moving in the right direction.
Playing a very good team in Byron Center. A lot
to be looking forward to if you're a Northview Wildcat,
and unfortunately they lose tonight, but boy, just a great
season for them, and man.

Speaker 1 (02:39:09):
There's a lot of memories.

Speaker 2 (02:39:10):
Of course, it's gonna sting losing this game, but man,
a good season for Northview and now Byron Center. We'll
wind this one down and move on against Mona Shores
in that big rematch in round two.

Speaker 1 (02:39:23):
Yeah, White Chers just keeping it himself to the seven
and that'll do it. They don't have to snap it again.
They'll line up on the fifty as Byron Center and
Northview in this Division two District semi final. It was
a tight one of the first half, but all Byron Center,
especially in that third quarter as they win it tonight
by a final score of thirty eight to seven over
unbeaten Northview. Plenty upcoming including scores and more. Once we're

in this one, let's break it down by quarter team wise,

(02:43:13):
and it's what we expected coming out of the gate.
Three to nothing, A twenty five yard field goal was
even that opening quarter, Byron Center leading it after twelve,
and then a touchdown by BC, but before that a
field goal to tie things up by Norfview. So ten
three bulldogs heading into the locker room. I don't know
what Mark Cisco said in that third quarter, but they
came out and three unanswered touchdowns at one point, then

(02:43:37):
Norfew got a touchdown, made it thirty one to ten
Byron Center. Off to the races. They tack on one
more so doas Northfew in the final twelve minutes and
thirty eight to seventeen Byron Center would a win, improves
to nine and one on the season.

Speaker 2 (02:43:51):
It didn't think it would be ten to three at halftime,
knowing what these offenses are capable of. But the defenses
came to play in the first half. But then Byron
Center a huge run in that third quarter. Three touchdowns
in the span of five minutes and fifty four seconds,
including a turnover deep in their own end for north View,
really just kind of put the game away for the Bulldogs.

(02:44:13):
After that, it would catch up time for the wildcast
and they just couldn't keep their head above water giving
up those three touchdowns. And like you said, Brett, thirty
eight to seventeen, it was all over but the shouting
after those three touchdowns for Byron Center.

Speaker 1 (02:44:26):
And so now they move on to play Mona Shores
in that.

Speaker 2 (02:44:28):
Ok Green rematch that we were witnessed to in Week three,
and man, that should be another dandy game as well.
But hats off to north View nine and one. They
end their season. Terrific job by coach Ryan Oshnock. They
just played a very good Byron Center team, didn't have
some of the breaks go their way. But man, an

(02:44:49):
impressive season for Northview and I don't think we've heard
the last of them. But Byron Center gets to move on.
So congraduations to Marancisco and the Bulldogs as they advance.

Speaker 1 (02:44:58):
And what was impressive when you look at the individual
kind of scoring summary as far as the touchdowns is
how many different running backs, how many different weapons on display,
especially in that third quarter for Byron Center offensive, well.

Speaker 2 (02:45:09):
They had five touchdowns, each scored by somebody different. Yeah, now,
tong Gate did have his hand in a couple, two passing,
one rushing but still two different receivers for those touchdowns.
The Pain Brothers Kellen and Cam both with a touchdown run.
So I mean they've got it done with all fastest
and that's what you need to do in the playoffs.

the NHSA we'll play for you as well to get
you caught up on what happened. Of course, the cross
country finals are going to be at MIS this weekend,
so more on that. And also the boys' soccer finals

(02:50:56):
are gonna be coming up tomorrow all at Grand Ledge
High School and we've got three area teams At ten am,
Western Michigan Christian the Warriors will play in the Division
four state championship game. Congratch them. Forest Hill Northern, your
huskies much you know his kids go to Forest Hill's
Northern are gonna be playing in the Division two final
and then Byron Center for the first time ever in

(02:51:17):
their boys soccer program history, are gonna be playing in
the state championship game and that'll be the six o'clock
game in Division one.

Speaker 2 (02:51:24):
Yeah, great soccer, I mean a big win for the Huskies.
I'm gonna pump their tires a little bit over granted
as Christian nine to eight and Pounty kicks. Exciting semi
final at Forest Hill Central. And congratulations to the Huskies.
Congratulations to all the local teams including the WFC Warriors
and the Bulldogs going in Division one. And boy, that's
a great thing for Western Michigan to see all of

(02:51:46):
those teams supporting each other and also is really representing
this side of the state well.

Speaker 1 (02:51:52):
And good luck to all of those teams tomorrow. Yeah.
Busy weekend by the way for our host athletic director
who did a great job with his crew to night
Brady Lake. He's got us here to night TV broadcast
as well. All the TV stations were out of here
live with the hits in the five and six o'clock news.
This was the game everyone was focusing on. And then
off to grant Ledge High School to take care of
the boys soccer team tomorrow. Off, best of luck, hopefully

(02:52:12):
they can bring home a state championship. All right, buck
Chino speaking a hand on awards, Let's do it ourselves
as we go with the Uptown Chiepskate Offensive Player of
the game.

Speaker 2 (02:52:21):
First, well, there was a lot to choose from five
different touchdown scorers, but really the story of the second
half was running the football for Byron Center. We knew
we had they had to get the back to that
and number thirty two, Kellen Payne was the first guy
that they sat in there to start that dey loge
of rushing yards. But kept with Kellen Payne, you know,

(02:52:43):
did a great job running the football, especially that first
drive they got on the opening kickoff that ended up
getting capped off by tongu Gate. Payton ripped off a
couple runs there, but then I was able to get
his own later.

Speaker 1 (02:52:55):
In the game.

Speaker 2 (02:52:56):
But Kellen Payne is a strong game overall, both offensively
and offensively, but we're going to focus on his offensive
rushing ability as he wins our Uptown Cheapskate Player offensively
of the Game.

Speaker 1 (02:53:06):
And Mark Cisco couldn't talk enough about them where he
talked to him this week in the Coach's Corner interview
and saying he didn't play last year he wanted to
focus on baseball. He's a really good baseball player. Wanted
to play his senior year. Of course, his younger brother
now part of the mix as a sophomore, but up
on varsity kind of doing the five quarter thing. And
great to see him in so many different roles. Like

(02:53:26):
I said, we saw him as a running back up
like who is this guy? They even know him starting
linebacker against Mota Shores, but was in there because of
the Luke Alaska injury. Then they found something, they said,
they use him at h back, They used him at
tight end, which we saw tonight. So fitting to be
our Uptown Cheapskate player of the game, Senior number thirty
two Kellen Payne for Byron Center tonight and for his
efforts he scored a twenty five dollars gift. Conny. Do

(02:53:47):
some shopping on us Kellen at Uptown Chiefskate with locations.
Probably your closest is Granville or right down the road
Kentwood or even along the Lake Shore holland Uptown Chiefskate.

clean out your closet during can for your clothes. Plus
you can become an Uptown insider. Get monthly deals yourself
at uptown cheapskate dot com. And for the Montel Construction

(02:54:07):
Defensive Player of the Game tonight, we're gonna stay on
the Bulldogs side of the ball, and we talked about
their secondary twelve interceptions as a unit coming in they'd
have to play well tonight. Norfew came out firing shots
over the top. But how about number seven. I know
you liked his play tonight, the senior defensive back Alex
Wobin make it some knockaways in that secondary.

Speaker 2 (02:54:28):
I mean he probably could have had a couple of interceptions,
just wasn't able to hold on.

Speaker 1 (02:54:31):
But number seven, they tested him.

Speaker 2 (02:54:33):
They were going at him yep all night with Logan Tyson,
and Alex was up to the task.

Speaker 1 (02:54:39):
Great coverage.

Speaker 2 (02:54:41):
A couple of times he was able to knock the
football away, almost had an interception in the end zone,
had another one that he very nearly picked off later
in the game. But just a fantastic job of locking
down that deep passing game down the sideline that Northview.

Speaker 1 (02:54:54):
Wanted to try.

Speaker 2 (02:54:56):
And for that he is our Montel Construction Defensive Player
of the Game.

Speaker 1 (02:55:00):
Always nice to honor a couple of players for the
Bulldogs that are seniors, you know, their final home game.
Maybe we'll see what happens if Mona Shores wins, obviously
the number one see the district, they'd have to go
there again like they did during the regular season at
Salo Stadium. But we'll have to wait and see all
those scores coming up with Joe Arrant and also Colbania.
But Alex Waba our Montel Construction defensive Player of the Game,

(02:55:22):
brought to you by Montel Construction. Still time to get
those exterior projects done, especially with this weather right go
to Montel Construction dot com for more details. That's Montel
Construction dot com, or to set up your free in
home estimate. All right, let's put things in the books.
And before we say so long, we got to play
a highlight for you. We had a lot of them,
especially in that third quarter for Byron Center. Here's tonight's

(02:55:43):
jd H's Family Stores highlight of the game featuring number
thirty two Senior Kellen Payne. Two backs in the back
of your one each side. This time the senior Kellen
Payne big hole cuts back in the thirty still and
it's feeding inside the twenty. It's on the fifteen to
ten five touchdown Kellen Payne from thirty six yards. There's
the blood in the water we talked about. Byron Center
now makes it a three score game with just over

(02:56:05):
seven minutes left to go in the third quarter. And folks,
that went from a ten to three halftime score to
thirty one to ten after three. And Kellen Payne wasn't
the only one running the football for Byron Center that
third quarterback.

Speaker 2 (02:56:18):
No little brother Cam had a forty seven yard touchdown
run and in between those two a ton Gate to
Lee twenty five yard touchdown pass and also a in
and Tonggate run. But yeah, that big run in the
third quarter, three touchdowns and five minutes in fifty four
seconds really just kind of sucked the ship of Northview

(02:56:39):
and got Byron Center at the momentum they needed to
advance and looked for a rematch against Mona Shores next week.

Speaker 1 (02:56:45):
Sorry. Jn H Family Stores Highlight of the game brought
to you by J and H Family Stores. Now with

upset will find out. But as we wrap things up
from Waddell Field, here with our discount door postgame show
our final score tonight Byron Center, thirty eight Norfew seventeen
for our host, Athletic Director Brady Lake. For Joe and

(02:57:30):
Cole back in the studio, and Buck Gino my color
analyst to my right. My name is Brett Pakeita. Hope
you enjoyed our broadcast and we'll see you next Friday
