Speaker 1 (00:00):
Then with Mark Cisco, but also tomorrow you and Tom
Kendra have the call in Division three, Zealand West taking
on Detroit Martin Luther King by the way, the Bulldogs
taking on Power Orchid Lake Saint Mary's tonight, and then
we'll be back here myself and Bucks you know tomorrow night,
same time slot here on ninety six won the game
Division one kickoff Hudsonville. What a year for the Eagles
(00:20):
and head coach Brent Sandy. Okay, red outright champs, but
they'll take on a very tough and very good Detroit
cast Tech team.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I think the three great matchups, I really do.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I think we have a great game here with Orchard Lake,
Saint Mary's and Byron Center. And I think both those
matchups you talked about tomorrow are boy. I think they're
pick'em type games, games where little things.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Are gonna make the difference.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
It should come right down to the fourth quarter, which
has not been the case in the first three state
championship games.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Today for a field, Yeah, we'll recap with Villas with
you in just a second, but also just a reminder
that Zealand West game will be over on one oh seven.

but excited to bring you all the coverage again brought

(01:04):
take us through the rundown here on the evens today,
starting with Division eight at nine thirty this morning, and
then we had Division four in Division six, and you're right,
I mean there were some routes in those early games.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
They certainly have been.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Beal City beat Riverview Gabriel Roshard in the morning game
in Division eight forty three fourteen, third title for the
Aggies they win won every fifteen years, ninety four oh
nine and now twenty twenty four. In Division four, Goodrich
got up thirty five nothing beat Niles thirty five six.
They held the Vikings just ninety six yards total offense.
First football title in school history for the Martians in
the game that just wrapped up the All Katholic bull
(01:39):
lumin Christie Waxing, Lansing Catholic fifty six to eighteen. Kadell
Williams former CMU commit twenty seven carries State finals record
three hundred and fourteen rushing yards and five touchdowns make
it fourteen state titles for Lumen Christie. That is now
the most in state history, as they had passed Farmington
Neils Harrison, who they were tied with at thirteen.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
How about their head coach to her broke, it just
keeps going.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Forty fifth season as head coach there of the Titans,
four hundred and twenty victories now in his career and twelve.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
State titles for him, which still puts him one behind
John Harrington. So you wonder if Phil come back and
try to get that.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Well, if you're wondering about our J and H Family
storees pregame show and coming on a little later than
we thought at six thirty one, happens here when you
have a quadruple headers, a lot of times games get
backed up and then that late game gets delayed.

Vandelot Home Improvement Keys to the contest here. Division two
(03:19):
matchup Byron Center Bulldogs committed twelve and one first ever
trip to the high school football finals, taking out the
eglits of Orchid Lake Saint Mary's at ten and three.
Their head coach Jermaine Gonzalez could spin it back in
the day quarterback for the Eglants and went on to
a great career at the University of Michigan. Now just
in his third season as the head coach over at ALSM.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Yeah, he's a little bit of a different head coach,
right than legendary head coach George Port.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
They love to.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Pound the football between the tackles and they'll they'll play
in space here now with what they have and it's
a little bit of a different scheme, but it's been
super effective this year. They played in a really good
schedule in the Catholic League, as evidence by their three
league losses. But here they are at Ford Field. So
this won't be your older brothers Orchard Lake. Saint Mary's
team are your father's. But I think it's gonna be
(04:03):
a good football game.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
They've got a lot of talent.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
We know that because college recruiters have been all over
these guests. They got a trio going to Michigan State.
Maybe a fourth guy when you talk about Antonio Johnson
on that offensive line.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
But I know you really like their running back as well.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, I love number five Darren Jones Junior Now He's
not one of those highly recruited D one guys, but
we're talking about a high school football game here, and
this is a guy that really runs the football effectively
behind that offensive line, and I think that Orchard Lake
Saint mary one of their keys to victory tonight, Brett.
They're gonna need to find some balance though, right, because
we expect to see Axel Newell, but we'll also expect
(04:38):
to see some Japen Gonzales that quarterback as well, and
they're gonna need to throw it as well as running
because their offensive line is really good and they can
certainly run it behind there, but I think they need
some balance.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
And the other side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
For Saint Mary's, they're gonna have to stop Landing Toungate
in that Byron Center run game.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Right.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
If the Bulldogs can get behind their offensive line and
control clock, that's gonna be tough for Orchard Lake Saint Mary's.
So that's my keys on that side for Byron Center.
I mean, they got to get landon Tungky going right.
I mean, their whole offense is designed for him to
run the football, but they are so balanced, like they're
not just going to go back there and run the football.
They will do bulls, but Landon Tungky's got to have
a big game. He brought him here. They need him
to carry him to the title. And defensively, they've got
(05:14):
to stop Darren Jones Junior if they can. If they're
not able to get Orchard Lake Saint Mary into second
and long, the third and long situations, it'd be a
tough night for the Orange Black.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
You look at Byron Center, Landon Tungate though. I keep
telling people he's not a one man show, and you
said it correctly.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
He's the guy to lead him here.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
This guy was playing varsity football as a freshman, took
his first snaps. I was there for Steell Central High
School back in the day and now a senior. I mean,
the numbers are just incredible when you look at it.
Seventeen eighty four yards passing twenty three touchdowns, did have
two I and T's last week had those three big
ones of the first loss to Mona Shores but just
six on the season, and then fourteen hundred and seven
(05:50):
yards rushing coming in twenty five touchdowns, six of those
coming last week against the Trojans.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
If you watch Byron Center, you know when they need yards,
it's going to be Landon Tungky right like Saint Mary's
as well coached. They know it too, but it's not
that simple. You know what player are they gonna run,
what direction are they gonna do, what scheme will they use?
Speaker 2 (06:08):
We know four is gonna have in his hands when
it matters most.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
And the one thing that Mark Cisco said in that
interview and told me off the year, and you know
this would be true when you covered them, they're finally.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
They feel as healthy as they've been.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Luke Laska is back in the lineup and he's contributing
like you'd expect Luke to do.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
These are multi year varsity players.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Campaign only a sophomore with his brother Kellen Paynter didn't
even play last year. He's a Division one baseball recruit
going to the University of Nevada. He wanted to play
in his senior season, and he's the guy that kind
of keeps them loose, according to Mark Cisco, because he's
got that type of personality. But he plays all over
the field, linebacker, tight end, h back, whatever.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
You need him to do.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Yeah, the pain brothers are outstanding. I mean they are
a huge huge factor and why Byron centers here. But
one thing Coach Cisco said in the coach's corner is
playing some other guys early in the year was a
big factor really helped us. I mean, look at them
on a shorts game in the playoffs, right, I mean
that was twenty three twenty three and the fourth order.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Will Lake had a huge game that day.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
First touchdown catch, he had a huge catch on the
on the touchdown drive that put him ahead after Morner
shorts and tied it. Then he gets the game clinching interception.
Remember Alex Walbin had gone out of that game with
an injury. Lake fills in makes the big play. So
it is a team effort for Byron Center. It's the
only way to win a state champ. How about Isaac
Lee to you don't forget about him. Senior hasn't committed yet,
but he is big on special teams. I'm gonna enjoy
(07:22):
watching him to counter Bryson Williams, who's kind of the
do it all guy for Ward to Lake, Saint.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Mary's No, I totally, I totally agree.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
This is definitely an Isaac Lee type of game, right
because he's going to be looking across the ball at
a Michigan State command and Isaac Lee believes he's.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
A Division one player. I believe he's a Divisional one player.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
He's got a chance to prove it tonight against a
really good opponent.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Forty nine catches coming in seven hundred and eighty four
yards on the season, eleven touchdowns for mister Lee number three.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
Listen for that name tonight.
Speaker 1 (07:50):

This is the drive to Ford Field presented by vander
Lawn Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Here on ninety six y one, the game bred Piket
along with.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Jason Nutting back here at Ford Field Byron Center has
won to toss. They defer Jade to the second half,
so they will start on defense, kicking the football away
to Orchard like Saint Mary's. Let's take a look at
tonight's supporting you starting laps. First of all, for the
Eaglets on offense, they are led by their quarterback number ten,
Axel Newell, this senior. Then you mentioned Darren Jones junior
one thousand yard rush coming in at running back fullback
(10:02):
when they use him, Number eight Chad Willis and their
flanker on one side, number six Lorenzo Barber. But the
guy to watch headed to Michigan State next year. One
of a trio on this team, Number four split in
Bryce and Williams big time numbers. He's six two, two
seventeen coming in nine touchdown catches for over five hundred
and seventy yards on the season. Then, upfront, they've got
(10:24):
quite an offensive line to deal with, including a very
talented tight end, a basketball star as well, but going
to Michigan State for football. Jaden Savory number thirty one
goes about six to five can leap out of the
building and then up front Kinnis Paul Is the left tackle.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Right tackle is Maleik Zowada.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Then you've got Antonio Johnson the right guard, Abram marcial
Is the left guard the center.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Number fifty seven is Greg Smith.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Set to kick it away for the Bulldogs high end,
over end, short kick taking at the twenty one trying.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
To go to the middle field and look out, Penley
flag comes out.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
He's gonna be swarmed under. Didn't get to the twenty.
He'll get him forward progress to the nineteen. The Bulldog
is doing a great job on the kick return team
and that'll send the defense out.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
We'll see what the penalties about.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
For Mark Sisko, we mentioned twelve and one finished second
the ok green Demona Shores, but very stout defensively, it's
going to be a personal foul blind side block against
orts of Lake Saint Mary, so that'll back him up.
But defensively, I really like the front four. J Matt
Orange has come out of nowhere. Number thirty four one
defensive end, Nolan Stubblefield on the other side. Then Chris Brown,
(11:30):
a returning player from last year. Aiden Van dam is
your nose guard. Very good linebacking corps led by number
two Luke Laska the senior along with Kellen Payne and
then Eli Farroll. All this kid does is pick off passes.
He had another interception in the semi final last Saturday.
You got Brainbridge, this strong safety back there.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Then Alex Waman is in the lineup.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Good to see him back along with Landon Conrad and
Isaac Lee. And that secondary as you alluded to, will
be tested. First down in ten out of the shotgun
left side, some run room and he's gotten across the
fifteen out to the twenty yard line. They went a
little wildcat that time as they ran with Darren Jones
and that's enough for a first down.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
We often see wildcat from Orchards Lake Saint Mary with
Javin Gonzales in the game, but at that time it
was Newel in there and they snap it to Jones
and a nice job. They pull the right guard. Little
power play and a big game on first down.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Axel Newell is back in their traditional quarterback handoff, jet
sweep going right side across the twenty out to about
the twenty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Good push for extra yardage out.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
To the twenty seven before he is stopped there on
to Curry, Dreys and Williams. We talked about they will
get him the football in space in different ways that time.
The jet sweep from left to right. Good for six
second and four coming up with the eaglets.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Yeah, you look at this formation for Byron Center, it's
really a four to four. I mean, Eli Farrow and
Tate Bainbridge might be listed in safeties, but they're really
up there at the line of scrimmage ready to defend
the run.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Handoff.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Then up the middle Darren Jones again, big hole of
the left side. He's across the thirty five, got a
first down and more out to the thirty nine yard line.
Big hole that time over the left side. That offensive
line getting to push for the Eaglets here on the
opening drive.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Yeah, first three plays, it's the Orchid Lake Saint Mary
offensive line that's winning.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
I agree with you.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Byron Center's defensive line is really good. But three plays
in and it's the big guys up front for the
Red and Black that have been getting it done.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Offset to the right, they go two running backs that way,
jet sweep and they're just out manning them over the
right edge across the forty five out to the midfield stripe.
He's got another first down that time on the kyrie
for Orchard Lake Saint.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Mary's was Lorenzo Barber.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
And they're going tempo here, they're going quickly. This is
what we didn't see from the old Orchard Lake Saint
Mary with George Port. They're going quickly. They're running inside,
they're running outside. Nice mix here early.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
On offset left and they're gonna run that way.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Nice job defensively coming up for a stop at the
forty eight yard line for Byron Center.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
That was Tate Bainbridge.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
The strong safeties you mentioned playing up close to the
line of scrimmage gets them for a two yard stop
that time.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
That's run plays and Byron Center wins first down here.
Get him off schedule, get him behind the chains. Big
spot here at second down.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
In twelve, Johnson was leading that play we mentioned getting
looks from Michigan State, Penn State still undecided. But he
goes three to oh seven on the weight scale. Handoff.
Now the cutback. Nice job by Byron Center, positive honors.
But just across the midfield drive to the forty nine
game of three after they lost to Bryce and Williams
on the Kerry Forge a Lake, Saint Mary's sets up
(14:27):
a third and nine. Now, let's see if Byron Center
can get off the field.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Jay, Yeah, big spot third and nine here plus forty
nine for Saint Mary's. Might be thinking two plays, but
Cameron Millness, not listed as the starter of number forty four,
is an h back for Saint Mary's. Out of the
game now in an obvious passing situation.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
But don't be fooled.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
The Eaglets still run power football, and that's what they've
been doing on this first drive.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Taking a lot of time here signaling in Axel Newell's
got the play. Now they'll go off on the side
like you can hear the orange of black faithful below
us here.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
At Ford Field on the Lion's side of the field.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
And now a timeout. I think it'll be called by
Jermaine Gonzales. Didn't like to set there big third down
and nine early in this football game. And now the
Eaglet's gonna take it time out. We'll keep it right
here remind you our starting lineups tonight being brought to
you by Sporting You Ran Your success Since twenty twelve,
we have.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
What you need to look your best.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Check out their gear at inventory online and Sporting the

com now again depending on your cable system, we want

used to be Ballely Sports Detroit Extra, So if you

for me, I'm an Exfinity subscriber, so I'm not able
(15:39):
to get this like Pistons and Red Wings games unless
I pay an extra fee. That's where we're glad to
bring you absolutely free on the radio and on the
stream at nine to six to one the Game dot
Com This game in Hudsonville tomorrow night and then one
oh seven MUS dot Com with Jay and Tom Kendrew's
in the house here tonight taking in all the action
working for the MHSA on one oh seven MUS. It
(16:00):
was tomorrow noon three game twelve thirty kick for that
Division three state final with Zeland West and Detroit Mart
luting King. That game, by the way, will be on
Fans Sports Dual Network, the regular channel. Third down and nine,
after the timeout, dwell watch a throw got time across
the middle incomplete, might have got deflected, but there was
a defender that jumped in front of Savor.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
They were looking for the big tight end.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
He was open at the forty incomplete, and so Byron
Senter going to force upon here.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Well, they went five wide, empty set. They ran four
guys deep in savory underneath. He was open.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
They just couldn't connect. Fortunate for the bulldog. Let's see
on the replay. We've got the JumboTron. Here was tip
by Alaska. Nice play. He was on the outside lined
up over the tight end that time kind of checked
him off the line of scrimmage. And then Luke Alaska
making a nice play. Fourth down and nine and the
Eaglets in punt formation, and a.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Nice job by the secondary Byron Center because nobody was
opened deep. Will Lake did start at corner on that
drive instead of Alex Wabbin.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Snap kind of floats back there.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
The kick is away, beautiful spiral, doesn't turn over, fair
catch called for. It deflected off of somebody and now
they're picking up. It's a live ball and credit Kellen
Payne across the twenty on the return heads up football
and they're gonna mark him out to the twenty four
yard line.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
I'm honestly surprised there's not a flag for kick catching
it for itsance, not right in high school, because the
ball hit the Saint Mary's helmet.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Here it is we're seeing on the replay.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Isaac Lee was trying to catch it, it hits the
Saint Mary's helmet. Yeah, so good job at Kellen Payne,
because the worst thing that can happen is the ball
will come back to where it hit the Saint Mary's player.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
You got nothing to lose by picking up and running it.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
And I think the officials are having that very conversation
Jay as they sort this out.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
It was kind of weird thing that happened. But you're right.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
I mean, if fair catch was called for by Isaac
Lee clearly and he came up to make it, and
then there was a player coming down here to see.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
The football there. Yeah, so they're gonna get the benefit
even more than the return from Kellen Payne because they'll
take that penalty. Now, does this go from the end
of Kellen Payn's Runner, Will it go this?
Speaker 1 (18:00):
No, I think it's from the spot. Let's see what
right here is where it was? It was at the
nineteen nineteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
There it is, we see it. It's one of the
things we love about the high school football finals.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
We get the review on the TV coverage as well
as the jumbo trump with all the fans here and
so now it's gonna be out to the thirty five
yard line. So that was a fifteen yard penalty, just shy.
The thirty five, first and ten Bulldogs go on offense
for the first time tonight, led by number four, their
senior quarterback, Landon Tunggate. We told you the numbers, but
(18:29):
a good offensive lineup front. He's got talented, skilled players
around him. Faked Alaska wants to run underneath Tonggate. Tough
running out to the thirty nine yard line before he's
pushed back, and he gotta keep number four healthy. He's
taken some licks. He's a tough kid. Gain a four
that time on the ground on the design quarterback keeper
second and six coming up for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
That offensive line for Byron Center is not huge, but
they're really good. Ben Kitchen that time to five eleven
two hundred and twenty pounds. Right guard pulled to lead
Tonggate there, get him through maybe four and then tongue gate.
He is so tough to bring down. I mean he's
taken two and three and four defenders with him for
an extra yard or two.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Isaac Lee is in the slot left.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
They go slot that way to the white side of
the field, just inside the right hash out of the
pistol formation. Tong Gate handoff from left to right.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
That's campaign breaks a tackle and he cuts.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Back in the forty five forty forty five footy campaign
down of.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
The twenty five yard line.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
The super sophomore number twenty two, getting the chance to
play with his older brother, comes up with a big run.
They are on the Bulldogs now first in ten from
the eaglits twenty five.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Incredible vision from the sophomore. It's a buck sweep and
this play is designed to go outside. He saw it
so well he cut it up field right off of
right tackle and got.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
A huge game.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Then the change said first and ten, Jaya, let you
catch up handoff campaign and speaking to tempo, Mark Cisco
wants to go quickly here over the right side down
to the twenty three yard line. Game of two second
down and eights and Campaign is not listed as a starter,
but he will get a lot of curious and I
actually he is tonight, but normally is Luke Laska in
(20:01):
there also Kellen Paint his brother will rotate it at
full back when they want to go heavy set Campaign
to the left now of tongue Gate, slot left that way,
fake to him, tongue Gate.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Back to pass as time sets his feet across him.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Oh, he took his eyes off and trying to look
ahead to where he wanted to run.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
He was opened.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Tate Bainbridge would love to have that back. That was
at the fifteen yard line. Would have been enough for
a first down and he had running room in front
of him.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Yeah, that might have been a touchdown. It certainly would
have been a first in goal. But just heard the
footsteps a little bit looked up, feel a little too quick.
Good ball there from tongue Gate.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
I like to play action though, when he was open
testing that Eglitz secondary third and eight now Byron Center
from the twenty three yard line of the Eagles on
the right hash they go slot left, fake to Pain.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Rollingter's left, lookouts and pressure. They want to throw back.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Campaign's got it, tries to make a man miss does
but then help comes over. He's gonna be short of
the first down dropped at the twenty yard line. Nice
job over there defensively to really stop that play, and
he needed some help with Christopher Coats, the secondary man
for the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
I like that play.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
I have not seen that play out of Byron Center.
It's a bootleg to the left and Toungugate stops and
throws all the way back on a screen to pain.
But that time the defensive lineman had to rush. Tongue
Gate had to throw it a little bit low, and
that made the difference.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Offense stays out there. Fourth to five.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
They got a good kicker and Dawson Hillard trips to
the left. One one receiver right.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
I try to make a statement here early if you can.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Out of the pistol formation, lookout, pressure, tung Gate got
a tuck and run.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
He's got to run room. It's on the fifteen. Got
a first down down, it's on the ten of the
nine yard line.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
That's number four at his best first in goal Byron Center,
Landon Tungugate does it.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
With his feet. He's just so good. That's a pass play.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
He sees the pressure coming from his left his blind side,
steps up in the pocket and finds the hole.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
There's just no way to defend that.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
And they're taking time off the clock, which is part
of the strategy as well, long sustained drive.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
We're approaching the halfway point, six minutes.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
And change left the go opening quarter, no score, but
Byron Center knocking on the door first in goal from
the eaglet's nine slot. Left one receiver or running back
to the right is Campaign.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
He gets the handoff on the counteraction.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Not much running from that time as the defensive wall
closes up front for Orchard Lake.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Saint Mary's on the stop that time.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Trajan Gibson was in there along with big number eight
Chad Willis.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Well, you talk about taking time off the clock, Remember
just a couple of plays ago, we were talking about
Byron Center's tempo going quick, and I love the.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Way the Bulldogs do that.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
You know, they'll pick their spots where they want to
go quickly off that huge run from Campaign to goal
a little quickly. Now they're in a spot where you're
right they can work on the clock a little bit here,
a chance to punch one in.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
It takes some time.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
No gain on that one's second and goal for the nine.
Two backs to backfield, one each side for tongueate out
of the pistol formation. Now looks over to coach Cisco,
they'll change the play. Paying to his right got an
extra like tight end in the backfield to his left hand.
Off that Kellen Payne. Kellen Payne touchdown Byron Center. You
(23:04):
gotta look closer at the numbers twenty two and thirty two,
and that time it was Kellen Payne, the right half
back in there takes it in for the touchdown from
nine yards out.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
BC strikes first well and they both have that burst.
I mean that burst. He saw paint, saw that opening,
got by the guy in the backfield and he was making.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
A b line for the ga. It was actually Campaign
who was on the other side.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Look at lead blocking the younger brother for his older
brother and a nice kickout block inside the five and
Kellen Payne, the senior takes it in from nine yards out.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Cam.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
That's what jumps out to me watching Campaign. He's an
excellent blocker and he did it right there to lead
the score for his brother.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Extra point up coming, snap is a go and hold
us down. Kick is up and it is by the.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Freshman Parker Wiggins in there with the extra point for
Byron Center. So five twelve left to go on the
opening quarter of this Division two state championship game. Score
BC seven or to Lake Saint Mary's nothing. We'll come
back with more from ford Field after this on ninety.

While we saw that opening drive, Borcher Lake Saint Mary's
three first downs and you're thinking, whoa, the Byron Center
defense steps up, makes this stop and then drives down
and scores. This team's so vetteran. They just don't get rattled.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Hillard with a kickoff again, high short kickball, pop loose
and Byron Center thought they got it, but the official
right on the spot on the near sideline said he
was down on the return.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Remember that can be reviewed.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
That's right, because you're on TV here at the MHSA
finals and we'll see we're getting a good look at
it here. They're trying to rip the football to get
very close. I think his knee was down though. Trying
to rip it away. Was Chase Swartz for Byron Center
on the kickoff team.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Well, that's two good plays on kickoff by sports. You
need to tackle on the first one.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
They're gonna review it though, they'll take a look at
it and see now they say it's all right.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Knee was down. I think it's a pretty good call.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
Here we go first and ten after this play, jail
recap that Bulldogs scoring drive so impressive after the initial
stop as you mentioned first down in ten, Newell wanted
to throw it right, tried to come back to the
left and good job on the penetration on the backside
as coming up with the stop that time just got
enough for the jersey to drop him right. There was
(27:05):
number seventy eight and Van dam five two hundred and
fifty pounds junior. Give McCain of three second and seven
with that short kick orch of Lake Saint Maury starting
with some pretty good fuel position, They've got it at
their own forty one.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Now that Byron Center touchdown drive eight place, sixty five
yards took three minutes, three seven seconds off the clock
and it ends on a nine yard touchdown run by
Kellen Payne.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Newell going for the home run ball. A little bit
of push off there, Isaac Lee, I agree, was looking
for it. No call looking up top for Chad Willis Well,
that should have been a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
I mean that hit Willis right in the hands after
he cleared the space with Isaac Lee.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
Watch what Isaac Lee was talking about, though, he gets
away with a little show up here.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
As the ball's coming right there.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
You could see it Isaac Lee saying, wait a minute,
I'm up in the air there.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Look at trying to make him play and he's pushing
off Bulldog's fortunate because that did hit willis right. I
think he actually Lee got a piece of it. Two
Do you see that he at least distracted him and
made a harder.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Lookout pressure on the backside, avoiding as Newell comes near
side scrambling.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Up the near sideline. He's got a first.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Down across the midfield stripe in a bulldog territory at
the forty seven yard line. Nice job there by Axel Newell,
as pressure was coming flushed out of the pocket, but
he found some green on the backside.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
That's a difference maker for the Eaglitz if Axel Newle
can do that because he doesn't have near the mobility
his sophomore counterpart, his backup, Jabon Gonzalez has in that time.
Nolan's Doublefield, who's outstanding, flushed him in that pocket.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
He stepped up and he didn't just avoid a sack.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
He end up getting a first down and I didn't
expect that out of ten in white, really nice play
by Newell.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
Lineman lost his helmet there.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Fortue Lakes Sireways has to come out for a play
first down in ten, eaglits on the move from the
Byron center. Forty seven out like Baul pop louis now
kicked out of there, and Bryson Williams picks it up
and he gets positive yardage inside the forty five to
the forty three. They're gonna get four yards out of that.
That could have been a nightmare of situation for it
to Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
And this this is what we'll see out of Saint Mary's.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
They want to get the ball to four. The Michigan
State commit Bryson Newell. He's their leading receiver coming in
with thirty nine receptions. They'll hand it to him. We've
already seen him handed to him on the jet. He
was lined up as the iback that time, and I
think they were going to hand it to him. He
ended up rolling to him and he still found a
way to get four yards.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Reg Smith, the center was the big fellow lost his helmet,
had to come out for a play back in there.
Now second down and six handoff right side, nice cutback
Darren Jones, still on his feet, running hard.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
He's got a first down.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Inside the thirty five to the thirty four yard line.
Impressive like they were on that first drive or to
Lake Saint Mary's, and obviously Byron Center is gonna have
to commit some more hats up in the box.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
Well, they've gone full house here, power t football those
last two plays. That was just an off tackle, looking
a little bit like we'll see from Zealand West tomorrow.
But we see a little personnel change here. Saint Mary's
going to go back to gun. I believe in a
couple of wideouts.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Richard Goik, one of the guys you like can really
rush the football, was in there on that last play
in the full house handoff. Now Williams going wide from
left right. Good job of the Byron Center defense to
stop him. And it was Kellen Payne one of the
first guys there the linebacker to sniff it out to
get forward progress to the thirty one.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
So they'll give him three second and seven.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
That's the third time we've seen him run the jet
sweep to the wide side of the field. The second
time with Bryson Williams. So Byron Center's got to do
a better job. Set in the edge held him to
three on that one, but I think they can get
up field a little bit more on that on that
white side.
Speaker 1 (30:28):

Flust out of the pocket again to his left side,
but he's got running room and a lead blocker, then
slides down safely short of the first down marker at
the twenty six again pressure coming from his backside he
(30:53):
felt at that time, and then ran to his left
and had a lead blocker and Savory there the tight end.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
And then they're gonna go to the heavy personnel here
and they're gonna go back to full house on this
third down and two. We'll see if Byron Center can counter.
We know their safeties. They talked about Bainbridge and Faro.
They play up close to the line of scrimmage and
they have eight in the box.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
So Williams and Goike back in their handoff Jones lead block.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Nice job, got the first down, powering.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
His way, keeping those legs moving inside the twenty, churning
it out down to the seventeen yard line.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Yeah, that's just powerhouse right at your football.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Impressive for Fortune Lake Saint Mary's find that big offensive line.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
Yeah, it's full house backfield, just off tackle, excellent push
that time. You got two guys blocking in terms of
running backs to lead the way. There, got the guard
pull from the left and boy, they're just pushing that
Byron center defense backwards.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
They've got like a wishbone set with linebackers with Laska,
they're Bryce and Williams left side cuts back and almost
broke it inside the ten, close to another first down
at the seven yard line.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
Boy Orchid Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
After that opening drive, they had to punt, not messing
around here down seven to nothing, trying to come right
back to answer the score by the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Yeah, that time they just got their big fellow, their
heavily recruited offensive lineman Antonio Johnson.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
They got him leading the way. And then another big game.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
First to go from the seven, Darren Jones with two
lead blockers over the left side, pushing their.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Way in touchdown Orchard Lake Saint Mary's. They take it in.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
And it was Goike the full but I'm sorry Darren
Jones following Goike and Bryce and Williams the lead block
that time.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Yeah, that's just old school power football.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
That's just full house backfield, run it off tackle five
straight plays that excuse me, five to the last six plays.
They did that with the Newell quarterback scramble mixed in
there Byron Sentator's got to go back, look at the
iPads here, figure something out because they didn't have an
answer for that old school smash mouse football from the Eaglets.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Seven yard touchdown run. Fine, Darren Jones Junior. We talked
about him in the pregame show. Over a thousand yards
rushing extra point upcoming onto kicking away fortune Lake Saint Mary's.
Beckett Keefer five, nine hundred and fifty pound freshman. We've
got freshman kickers battling here. They're gonna review that play
to make sure he got in the end zone.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Look like he did.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
And I tell you what, They've got some hosses up front,
but big number seventy seven, the left guard is Abraham
Marcial and look at him just push two would be
defenders for Byron center into the end zone on top
of Jones, and like you mentioned, also leading the way
was Antonio Johnson, the other guard.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
You know, they had some shuffling on that offensive line,
did Saint Mary's because their big left tackle, fifty five
John Klarcik hasn't been playing here these last few weeks,
and we saw that time sixty Molik Zawida.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
I thought he did a nice job.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
He's a little bit undersized in their offensive line, but
does a nice job. And you can do that when
you want to pull your guard. Saint Mary's loves to
pull their guards, and those guys don't need to be big,
they need to be athletic. That's what Antonio Johnson. He's
big and athletic, so he's the whole backage and then
the wide at that time, not big, but excellent at
pulling and leading the way.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
In that off tackle play.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
You talked about J two playing in the Catholic League,
and then you might mix it another school from Ohio
like they did Toledo Central Cathoic wind up playing a
Muskegon Mona shorsmack of a football game.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
They're three losses. I mean, Warren deala Sal we.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Know very well with Dan Rohan head coach there.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Even though it wasn't the typical pilot's year, is still
a very good year for them, and Warren Dela Sale
beat them thirty eight to twenty eight. Detroit Catholic Central
beat him by five twenty seven twenty two. These were
earlier in the season and then they lost seven to
six to Toledo Central Catholic. But you look at him
in the playoffs. Most impressive was last week. I mean
Birmingham Groves unbeaten a lot of talent on that team
(34:39):
and they lose in overtime? Did Groves to orch of
Lake Saint Mary's give niague? That's credit twenty eight twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
You know, it's funny how these things work out. Obviously,
the Catholic League is unbelievable and so you're gonna be
battle tested and that's a big reason why Orchid Lake
Saint Mary's is here in my opinion. But they lost
the game to Dan running Dela Sal in the regular season.
There was a potential they could have played again last
week in the semi finals beats De la Salle a
regional final. You know, Groves have been ranked number one
all season long. They have Doas Sanders, the son of
(35:06):
Barry Sanders, who's going to Toledo, outstanding runner, and Saint
Mary's knocked him off last week. You know, sometimes it falls,
the bracket falls, right, they didn't. But I don't know
if facing Groves is better than facing Dela sal But
sometimes it's better to play a team that doesn't know
you so well, as we've seen with Hudsonville. Once they
got that okay red Gauntlet, they've done really well.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
And for Saint Mary's, they played Groves. Those teams haven't
played much Orchard Lake.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Saint Mary's, they said, now officially is a touchdown extra
point upcoming All boys school. By the way, the Catholic
Prep League fun to watch them when they get into
the tournament, especially in basketball. The Bresidents CETA, their student
sections makes some noise all game long.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
The left foot of the freshman after the snap.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Is go and hold his down, kick is up and
it is good knocking it through. Beckett Keefer, the five
nine hundred and fifty pound freshmen for the Eaglets.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
So we're time light.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
It's seven with one twelve left to go in the
opening quarter. We'll step aside with the time out of

a lot of people excited about that Michigan State with

four set for today, four more coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
We're toied at seven apiece, but just over a minute
left in the opening quarter.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
I was gonna say it's early, but we might have
our best game of the day. After three blowouts to
start the day. That Orchard Lake Saint Mary scoring drive
nine plays sixty two yards, took three minutes and fifty
four seconds off the clock, and Darren Jones ends it
with a seven yard touchdown runner Looking at the stats
in this game, three passing yards combined between the two teams,
everything on the ground, one hundred and three rushing yards
(38:12):
for Orchard Lake Saint Mary. They threw that incomplete pass
deep on the first play, then eight straight rushes to
score Byron Center with sixty five rushing yards.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Of course, there's one possession so far.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Billy Harden to Brow to kick it off, So both
teams using different kickoffs. Specialist is high short kick killing
Paynfield around the twenty five just nice job of going
north and south gets it across the thirty and up
field to the thirty five yard line. They'll mark him
down there. So both teams want to give up a
little field position. They just don't want the big play.
(38:42):
And certainly there's some home run hitters, as we talked
about with Williamson Fortune Lake Saint Mary's on the other side,
Isaac Lee for Byron Center.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
While if you're paid any attention to Byron Center.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
Last week, Isaac Lee had two huge punt returns that
set up short fields for Landon Tounguay touchdown runs. We
can see the Eagles have no interest in letting three
get the ball on special teams.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
First down and ten, they'll motion a man head off
Luke Laska from the wing back position from left to right,
cuts it up field positive yondage to the thirty seven
yard line, and mark him down there after a gain
of two. Defensively on the stop was number nine Chase
Arnold for the Eaglets. So second down in eight, maybe
(39:21):
one more play here and that'll probably end the core last.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
I've been such an outstanding player for Byron Center for
four years, playing in his last high school game here.
Obviously a big part of their defense at linebacker. But
the dude can block, and they give them the ball
a decent amount, dude, and he earns it.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Motion him from left to right, two backs in the
backfield handoff campaign spins out of a tackle, fights his
way forward to the forty yard line. Great effort by
the sophomore number twenty two. Campaign gate of three will
set up third and five. We mentioned host Jepson physical
therapy bringing to our halftime show. If they want people

five cut up from Byron Center from their own forty
yard line. Week come back, the teams will switch ends
(40:20):
of the field and switch sides, but after one quarter
playing this Division two State championship game, it's Byron Center
seven or to Lake Saint Mary seven back with more

Their drive to ford Field is on with the MHSAA
High School Football Flow presented by Benderlin Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Right here on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
Welcome back to ford Field, everyone in Jay. This is
a big third down and five, and I wanted to
highlight the offensive line and our sporting US starting lineups
up front for the Bulldogs. They've got to start to
try to win some battles against the big defense in front.
We're talking about Jackson Boby, the left tackle, espen Batdorf,
the right tackle, right guard Ben Kitchen, left guard Caden Krause,
and then center Billy Butler and their counterparts on the
(42:31):
other side on the defensive line got pushed around that
last drive.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
They certainly did. They certainly did.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
Orsha like Saint Mary said, we're gonna run it and
we're gonna score, and that's what they did. So here
we go third and five brat this is landon Tungate Territory.
I think everybody in here knows it.
Speaker 4 (42:44):
One back in the backfield. Now motion a man across.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
That's Bainbridge and that's Laska, and they'll give it back
to him on the little toss right side. Try to
get a block and just stop short. Bainbridge was the
lead blocker that time. They'll give them to the forty
four or just shive. But it's gonna be third and
a long yard. Come up up fourth in a long
yard for BC.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
I think Marc Cisco thought what I thought, and then
everybody thought it was gonna be Tonguate. So you try
to you try to get them. Hey, you're fourth and one.
I will be floored if this is not Landon Tunguate
carrying football.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Well, first of all, you try to draw them off sides,
right and now Mark Cisco is gonna talk things over
time out of the field.
Speaker 2 (43:21):
We'll keep it right here.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
I think you have to go for it in this
situation on your own forty four seven to seven, what
would you do?
Speaker 2 (43:28):
I would go for it here.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
I try to draw them off sides, but tell the guys, hey,
if they're not coming, obviously we're gonna state your ground.
We're gonna run the play. But try to go on too,
because obviously you get a free five. It's a bonus.
But the way the orchar Lake Saint Mary's has gotten
the push up front, this is gonna come down to
a possessions game, and you.
Speaker 4 (43:48):
Got to keep standing in front of them.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
I agree with you, right, I mean, just from what
we've seen, they got to change things up defensively. They're
gonna have to bring some more guys into the box
to try to slow them down. But as you know,
and you've talked about it before, you got jab and
Gonzalez who can come in. We haven't seen him yet.
And Newell obviously he can throw the football. They've got
some talented wide receivers. So it's gonna be a cat
and mouse game. I love it so far what we're
seeing with both coaching staffs.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
Yeah, I'm interesting what Marc Cisco's saying to his guys here,
because I agree with you. Maybe go on to here,
but you have to have a play called run it
because you just used absolutely so you're not gonna use
another one here. You have to actually have a play called,
and I.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Think you will.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
I'm just saying that i'd have my offensive line hold
the water, see if you can get him to jump right,
because they're gonna be antsy.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
It's fourth and one.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
They're trying to get off the ball, hold the water
and obviously if you jump then you gotta put the.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
Ball, then you would for sure pot right. So you're
gonna get both pain brothers in there. I think that's
an easy answer because they're both so good at blocking.
They can also carry it. I mean, you could give
it to either one of them in the situation.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
But interesting, Kellen is the tight end. Yeah, they move
him over. They've got Laska that way is the wing
back to the right side. Fourth a little more than
the yard. Look at Orchard Lake, Saint Mary's crowding that
line of scrimmage. Mo over Alaska handoff campaign wide.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Got the first time of more campaign. It's on the forty,
it's on the thirty twenty five forty. They're not gonna
catch him. Campaign the sophomore what an answer. Takes it
to the house fifty six yards for the score.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
It's brilliant. It's absolutely brilliant by Mark Cisco. You have
Kellen payin at right tight end, and you Alaska as
the age behind him. You bring Laska in motion to
the left. You already have campaign to the left of
tongue Gay. It looks like it's gonna be tongue a
run left because it's so heavy, and you just.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
Run the counteraction with Cam. He runs behind his big
brother and he had an absolute monster I I want
a kickout blocked by Kellen Payne.
Speaker 1 (45:37):
We just saw it there on the replay to give
his younger brother the edge. They compliment each other. I
told I call it bringing the pain, and they certainly
have one. A one to two punch for Byron Center.
Here's the extra point attempt by the freshman. Snap is
a go and hold his down on the turf and
it got blocked by arch of Lake Saint Mary's. They
didn't get it up quickly enough off the turf that
(45:59):
time on the extra point attempt by Parker Wiggins, and
so the score will remain thirteen to seven in favor
of Byron Center. But eleven twenty one left to go
here first half won an answer by the Bulldogs fifty
six yards to the house on the ground. The sophomore
campaign to counterpart is Kellen Payne brother senior, who had
(46:19):
the first rushing touchdown for Byron Center.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
Time out of the field.
Speaker 1 (46:22):
We'll step aside as well as you're listening to Championship Weekend,

Speaker 5 (47:02):
This is the Drive to Ford Field, presented by vender
Lahn Home Improvement here on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
We'll recap that bulldog scoring drive, but Jawnson Hilliard getting
the right football out there. Teams can switch according to
if they're on offense or not. You want to get
his own Byron Center edition of the football to kick
this one away. Hill You're doing the kickoff, dude, he's
the freshman just kind of blocked moments ago Parker Wiggins though,
kicking the extra points.
Speaker 4 (47:32):
We'll see what happens if they attempt a field goal here.
Speaker 1 (47:34):
But with eleven to twenty one left to go, Bulldog's
answer get all they go with the on side squipt
kickball is loose and I think the second man for
Fortune Lake Saint Mary's hopped on it at the forty
five yard line.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
How about Mark Cisco and his staff. They're pulling out
all the tricks here.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
At Ford Field. I'm really surprised at that one. They
just pulled the on side kick. I don't think anybody
was expecting that. But heads up played by Saint Mary's
because their first man on the scene was unable to
recover it, but the second guy got it.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
It stayed low. Yeah, he'll you did a nice job
of selling it to it. Looked like the way he
approached he was gonna kick it deep. But Orchid Lake
Saint Mary's give him credit. They recover it there After
this play, we'll recap that Bulldog scoring drive to answer
again for BC. Gotta stay ahead of orch of Lake
Saint Mary's so explosive on the eaglets man in motion
wets Williams cut back hand off makes a man miss
(48:24):
nice hesitation the whole boy, is he tough to bring
down good speed to loosen this inside the BC forty
rambling down to the thirty eight yard line. That's gonna
be a first down in more for Orchard Lake. Saint
Mary's again on the ground.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
Jay, Yeah, they're not gonna throw the football, not until
Byron Center proves they can stop him. And right now
that offensive line is just getting a push, big hole
that time for Newell over left tackle. Another big game
that Byron Center scoring drive four plays sixty five yards,
took one minute, forty six seconds. It was capped by
the campaign fifty six yard touchdown run a fourth and
(48:58):
one extra point block at thirteen to seven.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Gate of eighteen of that carried by Williams. Now In
the counteraction, penalty flag comes out Byron Center doing a
better job that time.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
This is gonna be a penalty on Archer Lakes saying
marrying a legal shift.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
That was Lorenzo Barber on the counteraction.
Speaker 3 (49:13):
If bart Center did a better job that time, they
set the edge over there.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
I think that was Bainbridge.
Speaker 1 (49:22):
Hey, legal shift they're gonna ask Mark Cisco what he
wants to do here. By the way, that bulldog scoring
drive being brought to you by MKD Funerals, every story,
every moment, every day since nineteen thirty seven through four generations,
every day taking care of family and traditions. That is
(49:43):
our friends and MKD Funerals with eight locations to serve you.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
Mark Cisco is over on the sideline talking to his
offense and they had to go get him to tell
the official whether or not they wanted.
Speaker 2 (49:52):
To take the penalty.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
But yeah, better to be first in fifteen, then second
and nine, because now you push you back to the
forty two as opposed to the thirty six.
Speaker 1 (50:00):
Thirteen seven Byron Center got the extra point blocked bulldogs
leading over to Lake Saint Mary's. But here come the
eglist right back after that illegal shift. First in fifteen,
as Jay mentioned, from the forty two yard line, five
Din Lohman for Byron Center hand off working the right side.
That time they go back to Darren Jones Junior or
had the touchdown for the Eaglitz and he gets to
(50:22):
the forty yard line stopped there by BC.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
They'll give him a couple second and thirteen third tackle
of the game for Luke Laska.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
Nice job that time reading that play, coming over right guard,
got in the hole, made the play.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
I think they're setting them up though.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
I know what you're saying about the you know, running
the football until Byron Center stops him. But now with
the down and distance, with that penalty, it's a great
time to take a shot here. Don't be surprised, George
to Lake Saint Mary's. I we got Isaac Lee one
of them. With Bryce and Nuwell here in the boundary,
Rice and Williams by himself to the right slot left,
they're gonna swing it out that way in the flats.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
Darren Jones, Oh guy had him and then spun off him.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
Great job by Darren Jones Junior to fight for extra
yard and just whipped the Tata around his waist inside
the thirty five down to the thirty two yard line.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
I tell you what I'm like you, partner. I'm becoming
a fan of Darren Jones Junior.
Speaker 3 (51:15):
He's tough, and that's the speed and space stuff we
talk about with Orchard Lake Saint Mary. Just get it
out to Jones on the perimeter and I'll tell you
what Byron center is a really good tackling team, but
they haven't seen the guys with this kind of size
and speed like Darren Jones, and he got away from him.
Speaker 4 (51:29):
I think that was Luke Lascal during the flats, trying
to bring him down.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
Big third down here, handoff left side, Bryson Williams not
gonna get there. Lots of black Jersey stack him up
with the thirty after a game of two needed five,
So fourth down and three coming up.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
For Orchard Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
Yeah, excellent job by the Byrons center defense that time.
They weren't gonna get fooled by that off tackle play
that's been so effective for Saint Mary's. But now it's
fourth to three, obvious situation for the Eaglets to go
for it. They're gonna stay in this heavy personnel. Looks
like we'll see full house backfield too tight.
Speaker 1 (52:01):
How good is Williams though, when you look at him
six two two seventeen with that type of looseness in speed, Yeah,
that's why he's god to Michigan State. Fourth and three
full house backfews you mentioned double ten end set. Newell
under center takes a snap hand off right side.
Speaker 2 (52:14):
And they stack him up. Byron Center's gonna get the
ball back.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
Darren Jones Junior nowhere to run at the thirty and
listen to this trow belowis fired up for the defense
coming up with the play.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
You mentioned it, Senior Luke Laska.
Speaker 3 (52:29):
Well, we talked about how they had Byron Center had
to do something defensively because they were getting gashed by
this power football off tackle.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
And they've done it.
Speaker 3 (52:37):
That's consecutive plays here on third and fourth down, Kellen
Payne took on the blocker. He was the first one
to get there, and then Alaska was there to clean
him up.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
And those two have been doing it all year for BC.
You know who else set the edge there was thirty four.
You see him at the bottom of the pile. Bad Orange.
Big play there for Byron Center getting the stop first
and ten They got it back at their own thirty up,
thirteen to seven, eight to fifteen left to go. First half,
Lee by himself split out wide, left man in motion. Alaska,
they fake it to him. Tonguet across the middle going
(53:07):
down to the turf. Nice job by the curl petter
and making the catch. Campaign the sophomore I'll tell you
what what a first half Number twenty two is playing.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
Well, that's that's really good play by toung Gate and
Pain because toung Gate threw him open because the linebacker
that time, Fresquez was coming in and if Tungay had
led him, he had to let him right into the linebacker.
So he threw it behind him in an excellent catch
by Campaign.
Speaker 1 (53:31):
Carter rickets in the ball game, the senior on second
and short, split wide right, now, lean motion from left
to right, and they'll fake the hand off to him Campaign.
They'll run left side wide around the left dead and
he's got the first down out to the forty five
yard line.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
I love that concept. We see that so much in
today's football. You give the motion right. The home of
the Detroit Lions is where we're at. Nobody motions more
than the Lions. The defense has to They absolutely have
to think about the fact that Isaac Lee could have
got that ball on that jet sweep, but instead you
run it up underneath him and we're gonna find the
ball way to get the battle three in.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
This game, Will Lake now split wide right, keeping on
him Number eighteen. He's come up with some big catches
this year game to five. On that last carry by
Campaign now left side Kellen Pain, he's gonna be hitting
the backfield and dropped at the forty.
Speaker 4 (54:17):
Three yard line.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
There defensively was number twenty six for to Lake Saint Mary's.
That's Jaden Denham defensive back coming up. I like how
they're mixing up to its not all Land and Tongate
who normally carries the heavy load.
Speaker 2 (54:32):
There they lose a yard.
Speaker 1 (54:33):
But the deception of, like you said, using him as
a decoy a lot of these situations.
Speaker 3 (54:38):
Well that's the thing. I mean, the game plan has
to be we're gonna run Pain. We're gonna run Pain,
We're gonna run Alaska. Because Landon Tungu Gates only had
two carries and one of them was a called pass.
They've only actually called one play for Tongue Gate to
carry it.
Speaker 2 (54:50):
Two backs in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (54:51):
They go with an h back to the right side
the wide side of the field, double handoff Ava Alla
Ralph Munger with Rockford, Alaska and Alaska that time for
a short game back to the original line of scrimmage.
They went Campaign to the right, then Alaska back left,
but Orchill Lake Saint Mary's has seen that on film. Yeah,
they stop him at the forty five.
Speaker 3 (55:11):
That's a staple for Byron Center of the Marcisco offense
to double hand off the counter, if you will. But
Kyrie Williams five to eleven, two hundred and fifty pounds
junior at his three technique, he was right there to
make that play.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
And now Byron Center in a tough spot here third
and nine.
Speaker 1 (55:25):
They're gonna take out campaign in Alaska. They're going with
a wide receiving corps. Bainbridge is in there, will Lake
is in there, and then by himself Isaac Lee to
the near side. They go slot to the far side.
And now moving up front and I think get an
early start. Was Jackson Bovia on the count. So third
and nine is now going to be third and fourteen.
Let's go to our Rapid Radio's scoreboard from earlier in
(55:48):
the day. In Division EH beals City, congratulations of them
state champs over Reverview. Gabriel was shard forty three to fourteen.
In Division four the twelve thirty kickoff game, it was
good Rich knocking off Niles thirty five to six, Course
nine putting up sixty plus knocked out South Christian last
week in the semi finals, and then right before our
game of Division six, how about Jackson loom and Christie.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
Really looking good.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
Cadell Williams, running back who was going to Central Michigan
now has opened up his recruitment with the coaching change.
Speaker 4 (56:14):
But fifty six to eighteen over Lansing Catholic.
Speaker 1 (56:17):
Here we got a good one though, thirteen seven Byron
Center Orchid Lake Saint Mary's third and long for the
Bulldogs hand off up the middle, Kellen Paide breaking tackles
and not across the forty five when we stopped well
short of the first down marker, but a safe run
there out to the forty seven. And I think Mark
Cisco and the Bulldog's gonna play little field position game here.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
Yeah, that's what that play call screamed did draw. I'm
third and fourteen, try to get five maybe six. Now
you're fourth and seven, but you're close to midfield. If
you can execute punt right here, you have a chance
to back up Orchard Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 1 (56:47):
Let that clock wine two under five minutes left to
go first half, will have the Bulldogs punted away here
Luke Alaska and the punt team out, he's back inside
his own thirty five late man dropping back deep for
Orchi of Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
That's Dj White to Michigan State linebacker commit. Oh.
Speaker 1 (57:05):
Now, they snap it to Tongueatehore trying to throw it,
and Mark Cisco was saying, was there a penalty?
Speaker 2 (57:13):
It's incomplete.
Speaker 1 (57:15):
They had tongu Gate in there as the upman to block.
They snapped it direct to him and he tried to
throw it out in the flats, almost got it picked off.
But what was Mark Cisco talking about and almost picking
that one off that time for Orchard Lake Saint Mary's
was Christopher Coates, but it was it was.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
It was it picked off. It ruled incomplete.
Speaker 3 (57:39):
It was fourth down, so it actually been better for
Byron Center had been intercepted. But boy, we're not even
a halftime yet. We've already seen an on side kick
and a fake punt from Byron Center. I'm a little surprised,
to be honest with you, Brett.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
I'm surprised on that one.
Speaker 1 (57:53):
Uh, just because with what you've done already, you're thinking
maybe Orchid Lake Saint Mary's and it looked like they
left their defense out there. They did like they were
expecting something with the guy dropping back late. That's usually
the case. I would have played a little more field position,
and the reason I would have is because your defense
gotta stop. And I think they've made a nice adjustment.
We've seen them cram some more linebackers in the box.
(58:14):
Now I'm waiting for the.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
Jermaine Gonzales chess match counter.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
Move to that where well, they open it up a
little more of this drive. I know if they don't
have to, they won't, but I would take a shot
here if I'm more to Lake Saint Mary's just to
get their one met them back right now, everything is
in favor of Byron Center in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (58:31):
Well that it took the one shot on two drives
to go their touchdown driving the first play. It didn't connect,
but it was inches away from being a touchdown, so
I agree with you. I'm interested to see if the
Eagles can can throw it downfield here.
Speaker 1 (58:42):
I mean they're gonna start this drive at the Byron
Center forty seven yard line, first and ten after the
fake punt was no good by the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
I know which Lake Saint mary I mean, they're super talented.
There is no question of that they're an outstanding team,
But sometimes it feels like when you're on site kicking
and you're going for a fake punt, you feel like
you're the underdog.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
Maybe Yron Center feels like they're the underdog.
Speaker 3 (59:02):
But I would say the first nineteen minutes of this
game proved that Byron Center can can play with orcherd
Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
They had the lead.
Speaker 1 (59:10):

down and ten handoff Darren Jones, and I tell you what.
His offensive line got to push about three yards down
the field before he was even touched inside the Bulldog
(59:43):
forty five to the forty two yard line.
Speaker 2 (59:46):
Date of five second and five coming up for the Eaglets.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
There's lots of ways to run power football, right. That
was shotgun one back, but it was double tight end
with an h so you got lots of guys up
there to block.
Speaker 2 (59:57):
And that's just what Archer Lake Saint Mary's doing.
Speaker 1 (59:59):
Bryson Williams motion jet sweep, trying to get to the edge,
got running home, got a first down inside the forties.
He put his foot in the ground, gets to the
thirty six yard line. That'll move the chains first in ten.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
Eaglets whether getting into pattern here.
Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
Saint Mary's getting pat of the run inside they run
out and says this is kind of what they were
doing on that first drive where they ended up stowing out.
But now they're getting back to it a little. As
they've gone away from the full house backfield. They get
inside with Jones Junior, then they get outside with Bryson Williams.
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
We'll see what they go to here after they move
the chains.
Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
Nice skate of six maybe seven there first down and
ten or to Lake Saintbury's thirteen to seven Byron Center.
If you're just tuning in, Bulldogs have played a whale
of a first half, three forty and ticking left to
go in this first half, but the Eaglets are driving
once again. After Byron Center misfired on a fake punt
attempt handoff, Darren Jones left side dancing in the box
(01:00:51):
and finds a crease inside the thirty nice pickup on
first down of eight.
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
Is he's down to the.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Twenty seven yard line, And maybe we're kind of answering
our own question that you were talking about with Mark
Cisco going for the fake punt on side kick.
Speaker 4 (01:01:05):
You see his defense getting mulled up front a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
Yeah, they're just getting Saint Berry's just getting a big
push behind that line and that time more yards after
contact from Darren Jones. You know, I'm telling you, this
guy's a good football player.
Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
Five and white, five down linemen for BC.
Speaker 1 (01:01:18):
They'll motion him in and coming from the backside that time,
and able to get Darren Jones junior, but he still
got a first down to the twenty five yard line
that time. Was Eli Farrow five and a senior.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
They brought Pharaoh on the weak side blitz that time,
and they ran away from him. Pararell's still able to
chase him down from behind. It not before he got
a first.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Down now you're a guy right here, number three with
the care offf carry over the.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
Right side inside the twenty to the nineteen.
Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
That's QUICKI seeing they're just getting four and five before
they're getting to a defender. So while certainly maybe they
outside passes there, the deep passes there, there's just no
need to go for it because they're getting what they
want running inside.
Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
Now they're pickup of six second and four Byron center
again with those five down linemen, two linebackers, the old
fifty two set handoff. Now that's Barber inside the fifteen,
still on his feet and fighting his way down to
the twelve yard line. Move the chains first and ten
orch ofd Lake Saint Mary's that counteraction.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
Then they come back with a power inside.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
It's really good stuff from the Orch of Lake Saint
Mary coaching staff because you're running the jet motion.
Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
It looks like a jet sweet. But all that was
Brett was off tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:02:26):
I mean they're running off tackle from the wide receiver
on the outside because they're getting such a big push
up front.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
Cameron Minds as the h back in there too. That's
just leading right in that hole.
Speaker 13 (01:02:35):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:02:36):
Darren Jones trying to bounce.
Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
Outside, great tackle. That time, that's Bainbridge far side defensive
end for a short gain. Byron Center needs some more
plays like that. He'll stop them at the twelve for
no pickups. Second down in ten for orch of Lake
Saint Mary's. That time Bainbridge put his hand on the ground.
He becomes the defensive end on that side. Matt Orange
(01:02:58):
was standing up on the wide side. Bainbridge just takes
on millness and makes the play. Excellent job. Now William's
going wide dancing inside the five, makes a man mistouchdown
Orchard Lake Saint Mary's number four, Bryson Williams, and that's
why he's headed to Michigan.
Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
State next to your folks.
Speaker 1 (01:03:16):
The Eaglets back on the scoreboard to tie up at
thirteen apiece with one twenty four left.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
To go here the first half, isn't that funny? The
more things change, the more they stayed the same. George
Port is no longer the head coach at Orchard Lake
Saint Mary. Would you believe me if I told you
the Eagles have one hundred and sixty yards rushing and
eight passing yards in this first half eighth they've thrown three.
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
Times twelve yard touchdown run there by Williams freshman trying
to tack on the extra point the left foot or
just got it in Lee came diving in late, but
it's up and it is good and again that's Keith
for the freshman to now give Orchard Lake Saint Mary's
the lead.
Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
So one twenty four left to go first half.
Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
Our score Orchard Lake Saint Mary's fourteen Byron Center thirteen
back with more from ford Field after this on ninety
six to one, The game to drive.

Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Buck'll be with me tomorrow night for the Division one
state championship game. Hudsonville taking out the power that is
and their school is just down the road Detroit Cast Tech.
I passed it by Comerica Park coming in. We'll look
forward to that six point thirty with the pre game
covered seven o'clock kickoff, and then Jay and Tom Kendra
Who's house tonight. We'll have the game tomorrow Zealand West Detroit,
Martin Luther King. That's a noon pre game over on
(01:06:06):
one oh seven mus the Moose with a twelve thirty kick.
I want to invite you to stay with us at halftime,
scores and more from college football and what happened earlier
today in day one of Championship Weekend with the high
school football finals at Ford Field in the different even
numbered divisions. We had eight, four and six before ours
here in Division too tonight. But I had a chance
to talk to athletic director David Coole, and they've got
(01:06:27):
something cool coming up on Tuesday nights with their matchup
with Grandfisch Christopher girls and boys basketball, where they're going
to honor a couple of Kent County sheriffs who responded
in an unbelievable story to a student athlete who went
down at the Division one state tennis tournament South Christian
was hosting back in October, and stay with us and David,
we'll tell you about what happened with that situation. Glad
(01:06:50):
to report the student athlete's fine from Ann Arbors skyline,
but also what they're going to do on Tuesday night
to honor those two Kent County sheriffs.
Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
Yeah, that's super cool. Excited to hear that halftime.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
So interesting situation here for Byron center ball in their
own nineteen yard line, two timeouts, minute nineteen to go
the half, they get the ball to start the second half.
This is very similar to Week eight when they hosted Muskegan.
They were backed up late in the half, did not
appear to be trying to score. It was kind of
just run some plays, maybe get to the half, and
then they got some yards. They ended up driving down
and kicking a field goal. It ended up being the
(01:07:22):
difference in the game. So I think these first one
or two plays are gonna be huge here to see
what Marccisco tries to do.
Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
They kicked it deep and Connor Neil in the sophomore
speech to number thirty six on the return, got it
out to the nineteen, just shot the twenty first down
to ten. There landon Toungate fakes the handoff and hit
and drop for no gain.
Speaker 4 (01:07:39):
Big shot that time.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
And guess who was in there, big number nine Fortunate
Lake Saint Mary's Chase Rdol. We've called his number a
lot tonight, six foot two, fifteen only a sophomore defensive end.
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
That's quarterback power there, and that's I think what we
expected to see more of from Byron Center tonight. But
that's just the second called run for Landon Tungate in
the game and that time no gain and we see
know hurry Byron Center's in the huddle of the clock
is running. They have two timeouts. They're gonna get the
ball to start the second half. Looks like they're just
gonna try to take this to the locker room.
Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
Yeah, they're running the plays in, taking all the time
they can. Forty seconds of ticking left to go. Second
down and ten tongue gate out of the short shotgun formation.
Two wide receivers too is right, one to his left,
and again the quarterback keeper of the left side, and
short gain just across the twenty shy the twenty one
before they stack them up there. So third down and
(01:08:29):
long and you're right, they're just gonna let this run down.
But orche Lake Saint mary Is going to take the
time out here to stop the clock, hoping to get
it back.
Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
They want to try to get it back right.
Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
Yeah, it's third and eight now after another one yard
gained from tongue gate, and so if you're Byron Center,
you're running again here. Make Archie Lake Saint Mary's his
last time out and then put it away, or do
you put it in the air, try to get it
first down.
Speaker 1 (01:08:52):
I'm wondering if you don't, maybe try to. I mean,
we've seen them be right aggressive with their call play.
Do you try to do Isaac Lee on a one
on one situation?
Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
You iso him a little down and.
Speaker 1 (01:09:03):
Out pattern trying to get the first down, maybe breaks
a tackle and he takes it to the house. We're
in Dan Campbell's house. I know he approved of the
fake punt. You gonna throw the ball here? I think
you gotta throw the ball, I really do, because here's
the thing, Orchid Lake Saint Mary's. If they get it back,
I guarantee it. I know we haven't seen it because
they haven't had to do it. They're taking a shot
and it's because they can and the clock situation would
(01:09:23):
not have any timeouts I agree.
Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
I think we'll see a high percentage. Look here, something
to Alaska, maybe something to one of the pain brothers.
Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
See if you can't move the sticks.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):
Tonguet's an extremely accurate passer, and I think he's.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Better when he's mobile and when he's rolling out throwing
the football.
Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
Sure, and he always like we saw him the touchdown
driving by that big run.
Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
On fourth down, so trips to the left. One receiver
right is lead single coverage over there. There is safety
to that side, but three wide receivers to the near side.
Third down and long tongue Gate looks that way like
he's gonna throw it in, just gonna quarterback keep it
and stuck at the line of scrimmage. Great job by
Orchard Lake Saint Mary's coming up with the stop that
(01:10:05):
time was the linebacker Ryan Fresquez.
Speaker 2 (01:10:08):
I think I think they're spying Tongue Gay.
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
Fresquez is his job is out let four, get out
of there, right and he's doing an.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Excellent job of it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
Right now, I mean, Presquez has owned that fat series.
Speaker 1 (01:10:18):
So now fourth down orchil Lake Saint Mary's, like you said,
Jay calls their final time out twenty four seconds left,
fourteen to thirteen orch of Lake Saint Mary's by one
final seconds here before halftime stayed with us for the
whole Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show scores in more with
the Rapid Radio Scoreboard with on Joe errant I mentioned
(01:10:38):
that interview coming up with David Cool I.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
Can tell you that last archer of Lake Saint mary
scoring drive eight plays forty seven yards took three minutes
and ten seconds cap with the Bryson Williams twelve year touchdown.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
Rug I will say this, it feels like the chips
are against you if you're Byron Center. But if you
ask Mark Cisco and you said, hey, twenty four seconds left,
it's a one point game.
Speaker 2 (01:11:00):
You're just trying to get in the locker room. You
would take it every time.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
Yeah, and you're gonna get the ball to start the
second half, so you can regroup here, but you're gonna
have to find a way punt the football. I don't
think there'll be a fake here on their own twenty
Punt the football. You get two plays, maybe three, get
the locker room, regroup, get the football, start the second half,
and you're good to go.
Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
Punt team comes out with Luke Laska. I gotta be
careful for a turn here. I would kick this one
by the way out of bounds. I don't care what
the distance is. Kick it out of bounds. Don't let
them get a return here in space.
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
I get where you're coming from, but you're gonna have
to get it at least twenty thirty yards otherwise you
got one player.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Oh absolutely, but I'm saying I would kick it to
my bench. I don't care if it's like short of
the midfield stripe. Alaska, good snap, gets it off, knuckleball,
end over and kick hits the midfield stripe.
Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
Great job ooh almost touched by.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
It or to Lake Saint Mary's player and then down
great role inside the thirty five to the thirty four
yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
What a pump by Alaska. Incredible pump.
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
But I've never understood that Byron Center grabs it the
second it stops rolling. There's thirteen seconds left trying to
get to the half. You make the official stop the clock.
Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
Yeah, yep, I tell you what I thought you were
gonna say. Why was an Orchard Lake Saint Mary's player
even near that ball? Well, he was within a yard
of touching that ball.
Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
One thing that I've noticed in all my years around
high school football is hidden yardage. You have to catch
the punt. I would do everything I could to catch
the punt. That thing rolled twenty five yards after it
hit the ground.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
Oh no, what happened here? Two guys go down. They
tied their shoelaces tied up. Seriously, do you see what
I'm saying? Rice and Williams went down, and then one
of his teammates went down. I'm like, oh man, he
didn't just break the huddle and hurt himself.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
Did they get the old shoes tied together? Trick on
the sideline? I don't know. Teammates get up. I don't
know what it was. But two guys went down and
then their teammates had to separate them.
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
Well that's the old bark like a dog trick in basketball.
Right you're just look over here? Here comes Ola, say Mary,
I want to try to do something.
Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
The good news is everyone's okay. Yeah, Mark Cisco didn't
like this good time out. I like that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Yeah, they were trying to they were, I'm not I'm
so sure that wasn't intentional. Yeah, like they were just
trying to distract, distracted Yeah, it was crazy. I've never
seen that. I haven't either. And was it Antonio Johnson, Yes,
it was. It was Antonio Johnson, who's an offensive lineman,
and Bryce and Williams and they came out and they
(01:13:17):
went down together, and at first I literally thought Bryce
and Williams was hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:13:24):
And what was strange? Yeah, because nobody got up. No,
it was like they were connected and they couldn't separate.
They had to have somebody come off the bench.
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
Wow, you're right back. I wouldn't be surprised if that
was by design.
Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
I like that distracted by Mark Cisco. Yeah, that was
just that was weird for us to see. We needed
a time out. Yeah, but we're not taking one first
down in ten. You know what they showed. They showed
full house backfield, so let's see if they changed that.
Speaker 1 (01:13:51):
No, they're coming out full house backfield, Darren Jones Junior
and there.
Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
So do you think they throw out of this or
they just hoping.
Speaker 4 (01:13:58):
To Bryce and Williams.
Speaker 2 (01:13:59):
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
Unbalanced line to the left side. They're gonna run that
way with Williams just a power left side. He's inside
or outside the forty pushed his way to the forty
one Byron Center was trying.
Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
To strip that football and Nolan's Doublefield was not trying
to get Bryce to wims of the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
He was just trying to pull the football out. And
now they're gonna be content to go to locker room.
I'm surprised, Jake, what a strange final thirteen second that was.
I mean I would have taken a shot, I think,
Orchie Lake Saint Mary's. What do you have to lose?
I mean, you had all the momentum. Are we sure
George Porter isn't over there polling strengths somewhere. I don't know,
but both teams are headed to the locker room here
at Ford Field. That we've got a heck of a
football game.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
So after one half of play here in this Division
two state championship game, it's Orchill Lake Saint Mary's fourteen
Byron Center thirteen stay is the host Jepson Physical Therapy
halftime show coming up next right here on your home
for High School Sports ninety six to one.
Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
The game.
Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
You as a radio station is we tell the athletic
directors if you've got a story to tell, or a
theme night or whatever with us, we'd love to tell
everyone about it so people can be a part of
it if they choose to. And this is something that
needs to have attention around it because we know everything
when you go back to even Wes Leonard and I
remember living that as a broadcaster and actually the reaction
(01:15:15):
of the Fenvale community after that happened. And David Cool
has an interesting story that he wants to share with
us and how South Christian is going to celebrate that
coming up with their basketball matchup with Brand Chris Christian
for both the boys and girls this Tuesday night. David,
thank you so much for the time. I know it's
busy Thanksgiving weekend, but this goes back to something that
happened on your campus in October with the state tennis
(01:15:39):
tournament for boys in Division one.
Speaker 14 (01:15:41):
Yeah, yep, hey, thanks for having me, Brett. I appreciate
getting the word out on this, but yeah, it was.
Speaker 13 (01:15:46):
We were hosting the Division one state tennis finals on Friday,
Actober eighteen.
Speaker 14 (01:15:51):
So a bit while ago, but again.
Speaker 13 (01:15:53):
So just hosting it. But we got a frantic phone
call and frantic people.
Speaker 14 (01:16:00):
Nearby that we're trying to get into our school.
Speaker 13 (01:16:02):
Building and we were all wondering what was going on. Uh,
And it turned out that a sixteen year old male
who was playing in the state tennis finals from inn
Arver Skyline had collapsed right at the end of his
match and just just went down and nobody knew what
was going on. So it was a very very scary
situation and one that it was, you know, just a
kind of a rental situation for us, So we didn't
(01:16:24):
have a trainer out there for us per se, but
there are many people out there that responded to it,
including a team doctor from Inarburs Skyline, and they also
had a team opgu I M that was on hand,
and all of those people reacted to the situation and uh,
you know, combined to save this young man's life. But
(01:16:45):
the one of the coolest parts for us was we
have we have a police station that's about four hundred
yards away from our campus and they were summoned with
the nine to one one call. That happened right away too,
and they ended up coming within three minutes from their
station to bring the AED and get right on right
on our first court there at South Christian and they
(01:17:07):
shocked the young man, you know, on five.
Speaker 14 (01:17:10):
Level instructions, got a brand new ae d time.
Speaker 13 (01:17:12):
I was ever used, which is pretty crazy too, and
brought the man back to brought the young man back
to life and it was just an awesome experience after that.
Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
That's Deputy Eric Windsor and Deputy Jeff Whalen from the
Kent County Sheriff's Office. And it's right there on eighty
four Street on the corner with Kalamazoo Avenue, so right
around the corner, as David mentioned, and they as deservedly
so got recognition in a letter from Sergeant Tim Potts
for their outstanding exemple.
Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
Were working job to save this young man's life.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
And now you guys are going to bring it full
circle because it was right there on your campus and
honor them in front of the South Christian community at
this basketball game on Tuesday night.
Speaker 14 (01:17:49):
Yeah, all of us, all of us involved, and you know,
even I wasn't even on campus because I was while
watching our.
Speaker 13 (01:17:55):
Boys tennis team play and out on the east side
of the state, which was funny too, but all of
us involved, like it was, you know, the right thing
to do, just trying to figure out what to do,
like how to hunter the two deputies and the others.
That's that's in the save this young man's life, and
we felt like, you know, a big crowd will probably
be on hand on Tuesday night when we host Growing
Up a Christian and Boys Andrels varsity basketball, so we're
(01:18:15):
really excited for that. I got in touch with with
the deputies that just kind of shared our passion for
getting the story out there, and they felt really, you know,
really blessed to be able to be able to do
that too, So they're going to be on hand, which
is going to be great. We're also going to have
some of the other you know, first responders on hand too,
just to make sure everybody knows how much this was
appreciated it and obviously the young man's family, who doesn't
(01:18:37):
want to you know, be involved too much, that might
provide a statement for us, which would be cool too.
And he's doing well, so we're really excited about that.
We're going to bring him out at halftime of the
boys game and read read a nice little letter and
kind of describe the situation like you did so nicely
that everybody involved, but I'm not sure you know everybody
who's heard this, uh, And just like you said, get
the word out on how important you know, having an
(01:18:59):
ad near, having CPR game, getting right on these things
that the emergency action plan was filed perfectly, and I
think it's really important to.
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Get those words out love to have everyone go out
and support.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
I'm going to try to get out there myself on
Tuesday night Sailor Gymnasium girls varsity game at six o'clock
with growing up as Christian a big rival and then
seven point thirty approximate tip for the boys game. And
can they get their tickets early, David or do you
recommend game of the door? And I just say that
because I know without all of this happening, this rivalry
game is a big one.
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
Anyways.
Speaker 13 (01:19:27):
Yeah, yeah, no, I would just say come to the door,
come early. You know, we fit twenty three hundred people,
but I would say come early and we'll do everything
we can to get everybody in there. But we're not
going to pre sell tickets or anything like that, but
we look forward to seeing as many people that can
make it just you know, not only watch great basketball
and opening nights for both of our schools and there's
two great communities, but more importantly, honor the work of
(01:19:49):
the first responders and just continue to keep this conversation
going on how to survive.
Speaker 1 (01:19:53):
Life Saving night at South Christian this Tuesday night with
girls and boys varsity basketball. Their athletic director David Cool
joined us during halftime. David, thank you so much and
enjoy the rest of your holiday week and we appreciate
you sharing the story with us.

All right, and thank you, betting you too.

I'm Joe Errett. We are at halftime of our Division
two State championship between Byron Center and Orchard Lake Saint Mary's,
the Bulldogs in their first ever state championship appearance. They
trail at the half fourteen to thirteen. But let's take
a look at the action that happened earlier today. The
morning got started off in Division eight where Bill City
defeated Riverview Gabriel Richard forty three to fourteen. In Division four,
(01:22:33):
Good rich is your Division four state championships with a
thirty five to six win over Niles, and just before
our current game in Division six, Jackson Luman Christie all
over Lancy Catholic fifty six to eighteen for your Division
six state championship. Let's take a look at action tomorrow.
Starting off Bright and early at four field nine thirty
and Division seven Monroe Saint Mary's Catholic Central versus Millington
(01:22:55):
at twelve thirty. You'll hear it on one oh seven
m us The Moves. Zealand West comes in at twelve one.
They'll face Detroit Martin Luther King. In Division five, Frankenmuth
versus Pontiac Notre Dame Prep. That will be a good one.
We saw Pontiac Notre Dame Prep earlier in the year
versus Ryan Rapids Catholic Central. And finally rounding out the
entire weekend, in Division one, Hudsonville Eagles come in at
(01:23:15):
twelve to one. They'll see Detroit Cast Tech for the
Division one State championship game. That'll be at seven o'clock
six point thirty approximately. Will begin the coverage right here
on nine to six to one the game. Let's take
a look at the action that's happened this weekend and
also coming up forward in the NFL. Yesterday, on Turkey Day,
the Lions ended a seven year drought and winning On Thanksgiving,
they beat the Bears twenty three to twenty. The Bears have,
(01:23:37):
in essence, have now fired head coach Matt EBERFLUS following
that timeout disaster at the end of the loss last
night to the Lions. Earlier today, on Black Friday NFL Special,
Kansas City Chiefs become the first NFL team to punch
its playoff ticket with a nineteen to seven win over
Las Vegas, and in typical Chiefs fashion, they found a
way to win. As Las Vegas was driving for the
(01:23:58):
game winning field goal a time tempt, they fumbled inside
the Kansas City thirty five to.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
End the game.
Speaker 15 (01:24:04):
In the NHL earlier today, you heard it right here
on nine to six to one the game. The Red
Wings fell to the New Jersey Devils five to four.
In the AHL. Currently on Wood Radio AM thirteen hundred
and one oh six nine FM, the Grand Rapids Griffins
are facing the Milwaukee Admirals. Second period almost coming to
a closed. Milwaukee Leeds the Griffins one to nothing, live
at the Van And Arena. In college football is this weekend.
(01:24:27):
Number four Grand Valley State is set to host number
five Herding in the Division two second round playoff. Kickoff
is set for one pm. Herding, though claimed a seven
to six victory over Grand Valley last year. To remember
in the Super Reregional three that was en route to
the twenty twenty four title in dominating fashion. Now GVSU
claimed win last week twenty four to seven over fourteen Indianapolis,
(01:24:48):
while the Bisons defeated Pittsburgh State forty eight two three.
Michigan is in action versus Ohio State, unranked, although hopes
to play spoiler against number two Ohio State in the
latest installment of one of college football's traditions, steep Robberies.
The Buckeyes, though, are a three touchdown favorite to clinch
of birth in the Big Ten title. You can hear
(01:25:10):
that one live at the Horseshoe at eleven am, the
pregame noon the kickoff on WHAT Radio AM thirteen hundred
and one oh six nine f M. Also in the
Big Ten, Michigan State needs a win against Rutgers tomorrow
in East Lansing to become Bowl eligible for the first
time in three years. Coverage will begin for that one
at two o'clock three to thirty. They will kick that
(01:25:31):
one off on Big one oh one three. Currently right
here in our Division two state title game at the
half Byron Center, trails Orchard Lake Saint Mary's fourteen to thirteen.
When we come back, we will head back out live
to Ford Field. We'll preview the second half and have
all the action right here. On nine six won the game.
Speaker 16 (01:25:58):
Could this vintage store be any right?
Speaker 17 (01:26:01):

Speaker 2 (01:26:10):

Their drive to ford Field is all on with the
MHSAA High School Football Playoffs presented by Benderlin Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (01:27:05):
Right here on ninety six to one, the game back
here live, heart of the Motor City home.
Speaker 1 (01:27:13):
We are Detroit Lions and home of the MHSA High
School Football Finals. We're talking ford Field and what it
do is that we have final game of day one,
the even number divisions played today tomorrow, the odd number
divisions Zealand West Division three still alive from the West
Michigan area, and of course Hudsonville the nightcap tomorrow night
in Division one against Detroit Castech. But here on the
(01:27:33):
whole Jepson Physical Therapy halftime show thanks to Joe Errant
with the rapid radio scoreboard. All kinds of action coming
up tomorrow with all of our stations as well. But
we got a heck of a football game. Fourteen to
thirteen or to Lake Saint Mary's Leads over Byron Center.
Speaker 4 (01:27:46):
If you're just tuning in.
Speaker 1 (01:27:47):
It was seven to seven after one and then fourteen
thirteen here at the half. The only difference Jay amissed
extra point.
Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
It was blocked on the freshman kicker Parker Wiggins, trying
to put it through in that second touchdown for Byron Center. Yeah,
heck of a first half. I'll tell you what we've broke.
Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
We seem to have broken through after three blowouts here
at Ford Field.
Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
This is a way of a football game.
Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
It's an evenly matched game, only differences of the special
team's play, and I think those last twenty four minutes
gonna be wildly entertaining.
Speaker 1 (01:28:15):
Let's take it through the MKD Feuder Holmes first half
scoring summary of how we got to fourteen thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:28:21):
Jay Bulldogs struck first Kellen Payne nine yard touchdown run
with five twelve to play in the opening quarter Parker Wiggins.
The extra point at was seven nothing. Saint Mary's answered
back on a Darren Jones seven yard touchdown row with
a minute twelve left in the first quarter. We were
tied at seven after one. Then on fourth and one
from their own forty four camp paign over the right
side fifty six yards for a Byron Center touchdown. The
(01:28:43):
extra point blocked Byron Center a thirteen to seven lead
thirty nine seconds into the second quarter. And then with
just a minute twenty four to play before the half,
Bryson Williams a twelve yard touchdown run for Itchard Lake
Saint Mary's Beckett Kiefer with the extra point that brought
us to fourteen to thirteen at the break.
Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
All right, there is her first half scoring summary. It's
brought to you by MKD Funeral Homes since nineteen thirty
seven through four generations. That respected family tradition continues at

to serve you Their newest one there on Riley Street
in downtown Jamestown serving the Jamestown in Hudsonville area. Of course,
the Eagles all fired up, just like the Bulldogs were.
I passed the school as they were getting ready to
caravan down with the teams to Ford Field first time
ever in school history. We saw Mark Cisco saying, Hey,
you know what, this is the first time we've been here.
I'm going for it. He rolled the dice a few
(01:29:41):
times in that first half. Let's go back to you,
Jay with our second half.
Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
Keys to the contest here, and what about locker room adjustments.
Speaker 3 (01:29:48):
Well, for Byron Center Orchlake, Saint Mary's ran for one
hundred and seventy nine yards in that first half. That's
a ton You certainly have to be better there. But
I think it'll depend really what happens in this first
possession of the second half. If Byron Center can go
down and score and play back from ahead, I don't
think you have to change that much. But the problem
becomes now in the second half. If you're behind, you
(01:30:10):
cannot allow five and six and seven yards of play
on the ground. So we'll see how it goes. The
Bullog's got to do a little more defensively, And if
you're Saint Mary's, you've been okay on defense, but you're
gonna have to continue to stay.
Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
With tongue gate.
Speaker 3 (01:30:25):
You've done a really good job limiting Land and toungate. Sure,
the Payne brothers have gotten theirs, but I think if
you're Jermagan Zales, you're okay with out that's played out
played out.
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
You have to keep the leasha on four.
Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
I think, if I'm Mark Cisco and the defensive sound
of football to your point, if they don't score here,
I think you've gotta start sending more people up. And
I know they already have a lot of guys in
the box. But I don't want Darren Jones to beat me.
I've already seen that in the first half. I don't
want Bryce and Williams to beat me that big offensive line.
Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
I want Axel Newell to beat me with his arm.
Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
I'm with you, you're gonna have to make ten to it.
But right now, Sat Marria's just a nice good job
running inside with Jones and outside with Williams.
Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
Sir Vandalon hom Improvement Keys to the Second Half brought
to you by Vandalon Homan Improvement.
Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
Don't forget the location in.
Speaker 1 (01:31:07):
Trafford City as well as right there off Chicago Drive
in Huntsville.
Speaker 4 (01:31:11):
You know they're fired up for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (01:31:12):
With eighty years in the business, Vandalon Home Improvement offering
top notch contractor services to customers in West Michigan or
to Lake Saint Mary's, kicks it away, taking on the
fly at the fifteen, coming near side, looking for a
lane and then swarmed under and dropped at the twenty
six yard line. On the return of that time again
it was the sophomore Connor Neelan first down in ten
(01:31:35):
as landon Tonguate leads that offense out. Let's set you
supporting you offensive starters for this second half up front,
Jackson Bovia and Espen Batdor for your tackles. Cayden Kraus
and Ben Kitchen your guards. Billy Butler the center, Tate Bainbridge.
They'll use as a wide receiver or a tight end.
When he rotates out, you'll see Will Lake in there
as they go with a three wide receiver step to
(01:31:56):
the right side. On first and ten, Isaac Lee by
himself left in the backfield, played fake fire and the
curl route dropped at the thirty ballpop loose, but I
think he was down.
Speaker 2 (01:32:08):
He was is on the catch that time. Actually in
there as an extra wide receiver was Carter Ricketts and
he was lit up at the thirty one. After a
game of five.
Speaker 3 (01:32:18):
Well though, Saint Mary's safety's are really good, and that
time Kareem Pruitt just came right downhill and got Ricketts,
who kind of caught the ball and turned.
Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
Around and boom, he was down but five yards. You'll
take that at your Byron Center. Campaign to the backfield.
The sophomore had that big fifty six yard touchdown run
the second score four byer cent of the emotion. Him
now out in the flats and they go with Isaac Lee,
ballpop loose. I don't think he ever had it incomplete.
Good call, so he turned to run. He had Campaign
(01:32:47):
out there. It looked like they was setting up maybe
an option hitching trailer. You see that with Pain swinging
out wide that time behind Lee.
Speaker 3 (01:32:54):
Yeah, it was strange because you had the trips formation
of the wide left and you sent Pain in motion
out there, so you had four guys in a bunch
formation head to thirty yard line and he threw it
to Lee who was in the middle of that. I
think they were gonna go option here. I'm not sure
because Pain came runnings. We're watching the replay on our
Fanuel Sports monitor. He was running to the outside and
(01:33:15):
that's the second time we've seen a Byron Center receiver
look and start running before they had the football.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
These lights are bright. You know this is a big
deal playing here.
Speaker 1 (01:33:22):
Isaac Lee, one of their speechsters trying to get him
in space. Now they motion paint out again and penalty
flag comes out a legal procedure. Someone moved up front
for Byron Center. So third and five now will become
third and ten. Not a good start for the Bulldogs here,
fourteen thirteen out of score, just underway, third quarter, Division
(01:33:44):
two state championship on the line. And to Jay's point,
when you talk about playing on this big stage, you're
playing against a perennial playoff power nor to Lake Saint
Mary's Jermaine Gonzalez, formier player who knows all about playing
for the Eaglitz.
Speaker 2 (01:33:58):
But when you look at their numbers, eight MHSA state titles,
six more state runner up finishes. Beyond that, Yeah, it's interesting, right.
Speaker 3 (01:34:07):
I mean, Jamaican Dalas has played here, he'd been an
assistant coacher. He's never been a head coach here. None
of these guys, I mean, it's been to eight years
in sorts Lake Saint Mary's benders. None of these Egland
players have actually played in the state championship game. But
the program has been here. Byron Centers is now.
Speaker 1 (01:34:22):
Mark Cisco now having to burn a time out. We'll
keep it right, here. Yeah, I was surprised by that
Jay when we were going through and prepping for the
game today. That had been since back in twenty sixteen,
the last time watch of the Lake Saint Mary's has
been in a state championship game. I mean, it blows
me away because they were always certainly in the mix
and changing different divisions. But here's what I think is
(01:34:44):
most impressive about the Eaglitz this year and the talent
they have and how they turned it around. This was
a three and six football team. Now, granted they're playing
in the Catholic League, they played a tough schedule, but
three and six football team a year ago, so they've
already improved with seven wins from last year year.
Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
It's been impressive and they're more talented team than they been.
I mean we were used to seeing a lot of talent.
They're putting guys in the NFL, certainly a lot of
guys at the D one level over the years with
George Poort, if you think about how often they played
Okay conference schools here in the state championship game in
South Christian, Coopersville, Grand Rapids, Christian, you called all those
games East Grand Rapids three times Moskegon three times, so
(01:35:22):
we see this often and now here they are playing Yrons.
And how about that five overtime spectacular with Peter Sturzmoll
back of the day, third.
Speaker 4 (01:35:29):
Down and ten showing blitz.
Speaker 1 (01:35:31):
Now they back out of it, look out pressure the
backside tongue.
Speaker 2 (01:35:33):
It doesn't see it.
Speaker 1 (01:35:34):
Bob Pops looses his head picked up in the fifteen
inside the ten, rambling down inside.
Speaker 2 (01:35:39):
The five and almost lost it to the two yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:35:43):
Orchard Lake Saint Mary's coming up with a big play
and Landon Tonguate never saw from the backside on the.
Speaker 2 (01:35:49):
Thumble recovery, and the return that time was big. Number ninety.
That's Kyrie Williams, the five eleven, two hundred and fifty
pounds junior.
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
Well, I'll tell you what a guy who's played a
real good football game tonight. Fortune Lake Saint Mary's. Ryan Harrington,
the outside linebacker, came on the backside and Landon Tungate
never saw him.
Speaker 2 (01:36:08):
He was trying to throw it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
Harrington got it out of there, and boy, that's just
about as tough as a start as you could ask for.
Speaker 2 (01:36:15):
Out of Byron Center. They got to football.
Speaker 3 (01:36:17):
They not only do they not get a first down,
but now they give it to the Eaglets on the
three yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
Yeah, they say he was down with the knee and
Cayden Krause saved the touchdown. Good hustle the offensive lineman
for Byron center, first and goal from the three, Newell
under center, straight t formation handoff. Williams picking his way
in touchdown Orchard.
Speaker 2 (01:36:36):
Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 1 (01:36:37):
They couldn't find him behind that big offensive line, Antonio
Johnson leading the way, and the Eaglits.
Speaker 2 (01:36:43):
Now add to their lead twenty to thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:36:47):
Well, believe it or not, Bryson Williams is going to
Michigan State to play wide receiver, but he's been a
running back tonight. Ten carries, eighty seven yards and two touchdowns,
and Williams is really good, there's no debating. But this
offensive line has dominated this football game to this point,
and they've just gone up two scores for the first time.
It's this extra point is through. That'll be fourteen one answer.
Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
His second rushing touchdown of the night.
Speaker 1 (01:37:13):
Extra point is on its way and good by the
freshman Kiefer.
Speaker 2 (01:37:21):
And so now with ten fifty five left to.
Speaker 1 (01:37:25):
Go third quarter, our score Reads, Orchard Lake, Saint Mary's
twenty one Byron Center thirteen TV time out.
Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
Of the Field. We'll step us on as well as
you're listening to MHSA.

Help stop the spread of inti Asian racism by visiting
iHeartRadio dot com slash Fight the Bias, brought to you
by Love Has No Labels, the Ad Council and iHeartRadio. Well, Jason,
as we welcome and went back. We were talking about
how important this first drive would be. Nightmares start to
the second half re Mark Cisco and the Bulldogs. Not
(01:38:54):
only do you not drive down and hopefully score and
then you know, try to get the lead back at
someone meta back, but blind side Land and Tungate never
saw it. Took a hit ballpop loose or to Lake
Mary's recovers it returns it down to the three yard line.
They punch it in with Bryce Williams tack on the
extra point and now down eight twenty one.
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
To thirteen early in the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
Well, you know, turnovers are always going to play a
huge role in every football game. We hadn't had one
in the first half in Boom. It takes less than
a minute to get one in the second half, and
it goes the way of Orchard Lake, Saint Mary's and
now the Bulldogs find themselves I misspoke earlier they're down
one score because they're down eight twenty one to thirteen.
So there's still plenty of time in this football game.
(01:39:36):
Still got to get gets football here, move it a
little bit, get yourself right back in it.
Speaker 1 (01:39:42):
Eagletz, not a deep kick, take it on the fly
at the fourteen, cross to twenty twenty five and out
to the twenty eight yard line on the return. On
the stop that time for to Lake Saint Mary's was
Chris debt Tour, six foot one seventy four in a
senior kneeling on the return of the sophomore for Byron center.
(01:40:04):
So he's gotten a lot of work on the kick
return team. So first down in ten BC working from
their own twenty seven yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:40:11):
But we'll see what the Bulldog's the lect to do here.
You know, they ran for one hundred and thirty yards
in that first half. They ran the ball really effectively.
They throw the ball two of their three plays on
that first possession, one complete for five yards. The other
one was a sack fumball.
Speaker 1 (01:40:24):
Tong gate fires hit the Laska hit and ball yard
loose incomplete. Big shot that time.
Speaker 3 (01:40:31):
Yeah, that's the other ten of that safety, Kamari Patterson.
I mean those guys are just coming downhill, flying and
breaking it up. Excellent play by Patterson.
Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
Yeah you can see him. He started about eleven yards off.
Speaker 1 (01:40:41):
Read that one completely and then Alaska as the ball
was coming in jarred it loose. Incomplete second down and
ten Byron Center.
Speaker 2 (01:40:49):
Might need to stretch the field a little bit here.
Speaker 3 (01:40:50):
I mean, those safeties are just sitting on those underneath
routs and you gotta throw the ball up to Isaac Lee.
Speaker 1 (01:40:54):
And they did play action to campaign that time out
of the backfield to set the lineback. But like you said,
those safeties can hit you playing downhill. One wide receiver
each way. They've got a wing back set to the
far side, tongue gate now hand off stretching it right
side and on the carry was campaign make that Kellen
(01:41:16):
Pain out to the thirty yard line, pick up a
three second make that third and seven.
Speaker 3 (01:41:22):
After the incompletion, you out that Orchard Lake Saint Mary's
scoring drive one play, three yards, three seconds wasn't much of.
Speaker 1 (01:41:33):
A drive, certainly wasn't third down and seven here. Isaac
Lee has been quiet in this one. Credit the secondary
defensive coverage fort of Lake Saint Mary split wide ride.
Here comes the pressure of the blitz. Look out tong
Gate trying to avoid it. Does buy some time relling
to his right. Now, gonna try and tuck it and
run and nothing doing. Got some yardage but not enough
(01:41:54):
for a first down.
Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
Knocked out at the thirty one yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:41:57):
Well that's the difference, right, and we've seen land In Tung.
It's amazing what he can do. The blitz came, he
looked dead to rights. He gets out of it, keeps
the play alive. But the best he could do there
was get back to the line scrimmage because Archer Lake
Saint Mary's just so good with their pursuit. Again, that
was the big fellow number ninety Kyrie Williams has had
a big game running all the way over the sideline
to make that play. You know, during the regular season,
(01:42:19):
once Tongue gets out of that, it's gonna be a
big play for Byron center.
Speaker 2 (01:42:22):
Chase Arnold over there as well.
Speaker 1 (01:42:23):
Defensively, So fourth down and seven, they say no gain,
They'll have to punt it away. Luke Alaska back deep
inside his own twenty at the sixteen snap is a
good one, gets it away knuckleball line drive kick. This
one is returnable, though, Field at the thirty five makes
a man miss bounce on the outside and maybe just
one tackle away from taking that one to the house.
He's across the forty tripped up of the forty one
(01:42:46):
yard line. Chad Willis on the return for surely Saint
Mary's lots of athletss with lots of speed. We talked
about that with Mark Cisco and our Montel Construction coaches
corner in the pre game. And now the Byron Center
defense gonna have to come up with a turnover a
big play here. It's a big drive for this Bulldogs
defense trying to get a stop.
Speaker 3 (01:43:07):
Well, now, if you're the Eglis, you you just keep
running it right up the middle because you've done so
well with Byras Center down a They're gonna have to
find a way to make a stop here.
Speaker 1 (01:43:14):
Yeah, two backs left side and they just keep running.
Bryson Williams with that lead with those two backs out
of the backfield on the jet sweep, he fights out
of a tackle at the forty five, then run on
a bounce at the forty seven yard line. But as
you say that's a chunk of five. Second and five
coming up for the Eaglets.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
Yeah, Bryson Williams.
Speaker 1 (01:43:32):
At time, they continue to mix it up outside inside,
that tend to go outside.
Speaker 2 (01:43:36):
And that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:43:36):
You don't know if Williams is gonna come up off
tackle here, but instead he took it outside.
Speaker 1 (01:43:40):
Williams in the slot left. Let's see if orts Lake
Saint Mary's maybe takes a shot here. Second and five,
they got two backs in the backfield offset to the
left of Newell. Make that an h back now offset
right and the iback is behind you, and now they shift.
They'll send Savory the tight end over to the left side.
(01:44:01):
Direct snap this time to the running back. That's Jones
and Jones being pulled by his offensive lineman Ford, which
is legal. Across the midfield tripe that was Johnson to
the forty nine yard line. Looked like he was dead
to rights after a couple ended up gaining four. It's
pulling legal. I thought you could push, you couldn't pull. Well,
you just did right there if you watched.
Speaker 3 (01:44:20):
No, I agree, I agree that's what he did. I
thought I thought the rule was you can push. I
don't know, maybe I have it wrong these days with
everything you got, the tuish push and everything.
Speaker 2 (01:44:30):
I've seen everything, and everything seems to be rugby style,
but it works.
Speaker 4 (01:44:36):
Gain a four there, third and one.
Speaker 2 (01:44:38):
Boy, if there was a play Byron center, Needa, it's
right here.
Speaker 1 (01:44:41):
Got a chance, try to set the chains against him,
handoff and.
Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
I don't know. Excellent job that time.
Speaker 1 (01:44:51):
Darren Jones Junior. Let's see with a spot though. The
far side official gave him a pretty good spot.
Speaker 3 (01:44:56):
Nolan stubblefield boy crashing down hard from defensive end. Saint
Mary's gonna go for this.
Speaker 2 (01:45:01):
The near side official did market short though I think yeah,
he needed to forty eight though I think it's fourth and.
Speaker 3 (01:45:08):
Yeah, inches foot you can see it short, Yeah, definitely short.
Speaker 1 (01:45:13):
Great job by the Byron center defense. Antonio Johnson I
think had to come out of the game there. He
lost his helmet. We've seen some offensive linemen for the Eaglets.
I mean, that's a big guy you want in there
on a fourth and short.
Speaker 3 (01:45:26):
Gonna say that's a guy that you definitely want out
there on fourth in inches here. This is I'm sure
gonna be a quarterback sneak obviously, orcher Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
Gonna go for it there in the plus almost forty
eight here.
Speaker 1 (01:45:38):
While they're bringing out the change, which is one of
my favorite plays that you don't see enough of in football.
They're there for a reason and this is close enough
where bring the chains out. Let's see how close it is.
And it's inches short, so fourth in inches coming up,
Forts of Lake Saint Mary's. This third quarter, by the way,
being brought to you by Kids Food Basket, our official
nonprofit for the LMCU high school football Game of the
(01:46:00):
Week and this regular season. Every touchdown score during our
Lake Short Game of the Week and our game of
the Week here on nine six won the game. Fifty
dollars was donated per touchdown by LMCU to nourish local
kids to reach their full potential. And I'm happy to
say after the season was complete, for the nine weeks
of the regular season, one hundred and twenty eight total
touchdowns Jay, and that was sixty four hundred dollars raise.
Speaker 2 (01:46:24):
Thank you so much to LMCU and Kids Food Basket.
Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
Here we go, everyone on their feet making some noise
at Ford Field.
Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
Fourth and inches, No.
Speaker 1 (01:46:32):
One over the center neel hands off Williams and he
was grabbed behind a lone of scrimmage, but surged forward.
He's got the first down and more just shy of
the forty five yard line, give him the forty six.
Nice pickup of three first in ten eaglets.
Speaker 3 (01:46:46):
Well, this is what makes Bryson Williams such an incredible prospect.
I mean, the dude's big and he's athletic, but he
is constantly getting yards.
Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
I mean he was hit in the backfield.
Speaker 3 (01:46:55):
I mean Byron Center had him short of the first down,
and he goes two full yards after contact. I get
that first down basically on his own.
Speaker 2 (01:47:03):
Here's Barber and again that jet sweep action from right
to left that we've seen Williams run, they also do
it with Barber and coming up off the bottom of
the pile. Big number seventy for Byron Center. That defensive front, that's.
Speaker 1 (01:47:17):
Aiden van Dam and also I think it was doublefield
on the backside for a gain of three.
Speaker 3 (01:47:23):
I mean, you talk about adjustments. Jackson Bovey is playing
defensive tackle and we don't see that much. Now we're
trying to get a push up front, so they're putting
one of their bigger, stronger guys.
Speaker 1 (01:47:31):
Out there, you're not playing for tomorrow. There's no other games,
at least for Byron Center. We've got games tomorrow. But
second down and seven twenty one to thirteen, which to
Lake Saint Mary's leaves all the Bulldogs Eglis with the
football driving again Byron Center trying to get a stop.
Eaglitts have it at they're forty three left side. Nice
(01:47:53):
job stacking them up. Short game that time.
Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
Goike on the carry and he's short of the forty
at the forty one, So give them to a big.
Speaker 1 (01:48:03):
Third and five coming up here. The one thing for
Byron Center that's in favor is they don't mind this
style if they can get a stop, because it's taking
a lot of time. They want to keep it a
short game as far as one possession right.
Speaker 2 (01:48:16):
Yeah, And you don't want.
Speaker 3 (01:48:17):
To linked in this game out well if you're Byron Center,
but if you're behind, you kind of do. But but
uh Orge, Lake sy Mary's wrots to love to run
left right all day. They've been running left, run and left,
run and left, and that's they did that time out
of the wildcat. Byron Center's making plays over there on
that side of the football.
Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
So now they got a big spot, Lorenzo Barber by
himself to the wide side of the field.
Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
Do they take a shot here? Single coverage, two backs
in the backfield to the left. Now the motion BARBERA,
this one's gonna be whistled. That penalty flag comes out.
Took a lot of time to the line of scrimmage. Oh man,
that is a big penalty delay of game against Orchard
Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (01:48:53):
We'll move them back. So now third and five becomes
third and ten.
Speaker 3 (01:48:58):
And now it's how much how how? How good do
you really feel about that running game? Because you're in
four down territory as long as you don't, you know,
lose yards.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
Here william split wide left, keep an eye on him.
Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
Yeah, I'd almost run it here, find Mary's and try
to get in a fourth and management.
Speaker 2 (01:49:14):
Will they're in the gun.
Speaker 1 (01:49:14):
Will they run it to the wide side with that
jet sweep? They've got him set to the far side.
All missed him.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
They missed him, and that ball is batted down the
line of scripts.
Speaker 1 (01:49:25):
They tried to go on the flats and Bryson Williams
all early for practice. There was nobody anywhere near him,
and he is frustrated.
Speaker 2 (01:49:33):
You can see it. And Byron Center totally sold.
Speaker 1 (01:49:37):
To the short side of the field for the passing
the flats, which that's what they were doing. But oh man,
when Newell watches this on film and it got batted down,
who got was it? Doublefield? Let's see who got a
hand on Mainbridge? Oh, you're right, doublefield, doublefield right there?
And also over there was Bovia, So fourth and ten
(01:49:58):
orchill late Saint Mary's gonna have to send them punt
team out and old man to the egletsmiths. That one
that might have been the break that Byron Center needed.
There Isaac Lee back deep inside his own fifteen to
feel the punt bulldog faithful below us making some noise,
And now we have another delay a game. And you
(01:50:21):
might say, well, that gives him more room to punt,
and they do have a good punter, but still you
don't see that in high school football too often.
Speaker 3 (01:50:27):
But two the Layer games, they went from the plus
forty one back to their own forty nine yard line.
And we'll see if Isaac can get a chance here,
that'd be a way to spark this team right now.
Speaker 1 (01:50:37):
Absolutely, remember he had over one hundred yards on punt returns,
four of them combined last week.
Speaker 2 (01:50:44):
Fair catch called for and made after the kick by
Bran inside the twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:50:49):
They'll spot it at the seventeen, but BC gets the
stop they needed. They'll get it back first in ten six,
twenty nine left to go and what's been an interesting
tied all the way through twenty one thirteen. Torch of
Lake Saint Mary's leads it here in the third, but
BC needing to stop, got it and as Jay alluded
(01:51:10):
to you, this is just a one score game. You
get that two point conversion on the blocked extra point
that you had earlier, you're back to tide if you're
the Bulldogs. See if Byron center and get those quick
passes out to the edge here because those over the
middle ones have been tough to come by. Two backs
to the backfield, handoff coming near side and Kellen Payne
off the lead block of his younger brother Cam couldn't
(01:51:31):
get it outside. Great job defensively by Orcherd Lake Saint
Mary's on the stop that time to well Williams Junior,
the defensive lineman six foot two fifteen a senior. That's
the other thing that Orcherd Lake Saint Mary's does a
ton of is. They rotate a lot of people in
on that roster.
Speaker 3 (01:51:46):
They do, and they're quick and you can see Byron
Center wants to get to the edges here because they
just haven't been.
Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
Able to do it between the tackles. And even there
it's only three.
Speaker 1 (01:51:55):
Chase Swartz split wide to the right handoff nice cutback. Campaign,
He's our number one as far as making something happen.
Speaker 2 (01:52:01):
He's got a.
Speaker 1 (01:52:02):
First down, explosive out across the thirty to the thirty five.
Nice run that time, first in ten Bulldogs well tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:52:11):
Campaign is their number one guy for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:52:13):
That cut back, I mean his ability to cut on
a dime is outstanding.
Speaker 3 (01:52:17):
And that was a spark for sure. I had to
have a first down there. And now you're out to
the thirty five.
Speaker 4 (01:52:22):
First in ten, number twenty two having a big night.
Speaker 1 (01:52:25):
Remember I had that fifty six yard touchdown run in
the second quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:52:30):
The second score up on.
Speaker 1 (01:52:32):
The board for BC slot right Lee in the slot
to the right man in motion Alaska. Now they go
with the reverse coming near side Isaac Lee, but orche
Lake say Marris smells it out, face mask, they're gonna
bail him out as he was stopped for a loss
back at the thirty one. Great job by Isaac Lee
being shifty.
Speaker 3 (01:52:53):
Well that's a couple breaks now for Byron Center first St.
Mary's missus Bryce and Williams and the deep ball here.
They're gonna lose four yards on that play, but they
grabbed the face mask and they're gonna be fifteen yard penal.
Speaker 1 (01:53:04):
I think it was number twenty two Christopher Coates personal file.
You hear it.
Speaker 2 (01:53:12):
That's a fifteen yard penalty.
Speaker 1 (01:53:14):
And here's the thing, Jay, they marked that from the
line of scrimmage, so it's not even the five yards
that he lost. I mean, you really get like a
twenty yard game because of it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:23):
You do, and you get it all the way up
to midfield. I like getting the ball Isaicac Lee. We
haven't seen him get much of a touch. They try
to throw it to him on the last drive and
it went incomplete. You gotta find a way to get
leads a playmaker, get him the football. They try to
do it on the reverse there.
Speaker 1 (01:53:35):
He's on the short side, near side here, hand off
pain and pain fighting for extra yachnage, dragging it would
be tackler down inside to the eagletz forty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
Give him five second and five come up with the bulldog.
Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
I really like the way campaign runs with the football.
I know his older brother, Kellen's going to play baseball
at Nevada. I don't know what kind of baseball player
Cam is, but man, if that kid wants to play
college football, I agree, he's gonna have an opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
And with his size and he's just getting bigger.
Speaker 1 (01:54:04):
I've watched him living in the Byron Center community last
couple of years. I mean as a freshman he certainly
was developed, but he's gotten even bigger this year with
the weight program they have there with bulldog powers, tongue
gate over the right side, stacked up for no gain
at the forty five boy, they you're right, have spied
number four well, and number thirty five has been wherever
(01:54:24):
he is, and that's Fresquez.
Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
Yeah, I mean Landon Tungate's gonna see him in his
sleep tonight, no question, He'll probably be on the bus
ride home with him. But I tell you this, we
have not seen this this year. Nobody has been able
to handle the tongue gate run like Orger Lake Saint
Mary's has done tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
Swartzwind to the right third and five from he gets
forty five four down line and play action.
Speaker 2 (01:54:44):
Tongue Gate under pressure.
Speaker 1 (01:54:45):
Steps up and he's not gonna have time to try
to look down field and throw it.
Speaker 2 (01:54:50):
Too many white shirts around him.
Speaker 1 (01:54:51):
I think the last guy getting home that time was
Ryan Harrington. You talked about him, but they had pressure
early as tongue Gate was dropping.
Speaker 2 (01:55:00):
They're relentless. I mean Saint Mary's is relentless.
Speaker 3 (01:55:02):
Trajan Gibson has Tungay in the backfield, Tungate does what
he does, he got out of it, and then boom,
there's Harrington to get him right when he gets out
of him. This is an impressive effort from this Saint
Mary's defense.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
And how about it was Kamarai Patterson.
Speaker 1 (01:55:15):
They went man de man coverage and the safety was
up there as one of the guys to.
Speaker 4 (01:55:19):
Get tungued as well.
Speaker 1 (01:55:20):
So fourth and eight, even though it's from the orche
of Lake Saint Mary's forty eight punt team on from
Mark Cisco and the Bulldogs, especially after that defensive stop,
they want to make them drive the field and take
some time if they can last get a punt it away,
this one angling to the right, not a great kick,
and oh he gets a favorable bounce, hits it. The
thirty one rolls inside the twenty five, still rolling to
(01:55:43):
the far side line and down at the twenty two
by the Bulldog's punt team.
Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
So you play field position a little bit and you
back them up to the twenty two. But boy, it's
danger time because you're getting to the end of the
third quarter. Here you struggle to stop Saint Mary's run.
You cannot fall behind. You know, another score here. You
got to keep this within one possession.
Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
I tell you what.
Speaker 1 (01:56:04):
To your point, the Orchard Lake Saint Mary's defense, I
think has been the most impressive nothing against the offensive
line of that running game for the Eaglets.
Speaker 4 (01:56:12):
But they have turned it up a notch, and you
mentioned it.
Speaker 1 (01:56:16):
No one has done this to Land and Tongate and
Byron center offensively all year, but they've done it successfully.
Whether it's been the safety's coming up hard, whether it's
been the middle linebacker that we talked about in Fresquez
with spying him and having the speed to stay with Tonggate.
Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
The only guy that's really had a big night is campaign.
Speaker 3 (01:56:33):
I was gonna say, Really, the two big plays from
campaign have been Byron Center's offense. The forty five yard
run on the first drive that set up the first touchdown,
and then the fifty six yards are on fourth and
one that went for a score that made it thirteen
to seven. But outside of that, it's been pretty tough
sledding for this Byron Center offense as a whole. You know,
campaign on the game has impressive numbers thanks to those
runs eight carries, one under and twenty two yards, but
(01:56:55):
outside of that they have twenty seven yards rushing on
sixteen carries.
Speaker 2 (01:57:00):
Senior Laden Punch Alaska Ton Gate Lee.
Speaker 1 (01:57:06):
A lot of these guys had been playing on the
varsity level for BC for three seasons at least, some
even four, and with two point fifty three left to
go to the third quarter, they were in a dogfight
twenty one to thirteen. Just had to punt the football
back to Orchard Lake Saint Mary's who again had that
short field. Remember not this last possession, but the possession
(01:57:28):
before because of the hit on Tonguegate but he was
dropping back to pass and it jarred the ball loose
and then recovered by Big number ninety Kyrie Williams taking
it down to the three yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:57:39):
So here we go first.
Speaker 1 (01:57:40):
Intent yet to really open it up as far as
their aerial attack. Knew although he missed last time, Bryce
and Williams on a big fourth down first in ten
direct snap Darren Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:57:50):
Good job of the defense Byron center, he saw that
all the way. I'm sorry that was Nolan's doublefield. I apologize.
Doublefield's played a wheel of a game.
Speaker 3 (01:57:59):
Time I've seen Byron center stublefields. I mean you remember
two years ago as a sophomore, he was the starting center. Yeah,
but there's another three year varsity player, Darren Jones. Only
a gight of won there.
Speaker 1 (01:58:08):
That's what they need down in distance, so big for
the Bulldogs. From the left ash one run receiver to
the left, one to the right is Bryce and Williams.
Will they take a strike Axel Newell in the backfield
they have as the h back in there at number.
Speaker 2 (01:58:21):
Forty four, they moved to the left side.
Speaker 4 (01:58:23):
That's Cameron Mins hand off.
Speaker 1 (01:58:28):
Jones, big hole up the middle across the thirty explodes
still on his feet across the thirty five and he's
got first down territory and more out to the forty
three yard line. Big run at that time for Darren
Jones Junior. And how about the hole right over center
up the middle.
Speaker 2 (01:58:44):
Yeah, that's right right on the left side of the center.
Speaker 3 (01:58:46):
That's they love running the left and Jones had a
big hot Byron Centers tackling the football. They cannot get
it out of the arms of Jones.
Speaker 4 (01:58:52):
Play action, now throw it into the flats.
Speaker 2 (01:58:54):
Ooh, dangerous play looking for Savory the tight end.
Speaker 1 (01:58:58):
And guess who Yeah, mister and her exception of himself.
Pharaoh almost had another one.
Speaker 3 (01:59:02):
I'm really surprised by that play. Call I don't understand
up eight by Bio orchid Lake. Saint Mary's had no
problem running it wouldn't just stay to the ground here,
because that's the thing that can happen. Boy, that was
almost intercepted by Pharaoh, and that could have been that
could have got Byron center right back.
Speaker 1 (01:59:16):
In this Mandon Conrad playing safety center field back there
as well. If they try to go deep. He's a
good one in that secondary for Mark Cisco and the Bulldogs.
One fifty two left to go to third clock stops
with the incompletion second down and ten orchid Lake Saint
Mary's working with their own forty three up eight twenty
one to thirteen two backs in the backfield, handoff Darren
(01:59:37):
Jones Junior, still on his street, breaks into the three
inside the forty one man to beat and run on
the bounds.
Speaker 2 (01:59:44):
As wrestling amount. I think was Conray had the safety,
but not before he's well into bulldog territory inside the
thirty down of the twenty six yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:59:53):
Rather run and left again, run and left and Byron
center defense has been out there a long time orch
Lakes Saint Mary well over seventeen minutes in time of
possession of this game, and I started to lean on.
Speaker 2 (02:00:03):
Him a little bit.
Speaker 1 (02:00:04):
First down in ten from the left hash play action.
Newell wants to open things up. Pentley flag comes out,
got his man Barber inside the fifteen inside the five
touchdown Forchill Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (02:00:16):
But hold the phone. There is a penalty flag.
Speaker 3 (02:00:19):
This will be holding on Saint Mary. So this will
come back again. I'm surprised they're throwing it at that time.
We went for a score, but it's not going.
Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
To stand out, I tell you what, though. There's some
open pockets in that secondary. Barbara caught it and turned
and ran up field, and.
Speaker 1 (02:00:32):
It was no one really near him. It's gonna be
holding on the offensive line, Fortune Lake Saint Mary's and
I think it was the player who was trying to
block double field.
Speaker 3 (02:00:47):
Yeah, we were seeing it on the replay. There was
Antonio and Antonio John Johnson, Yeah, trying to block Aiden
Van dam Van Damn had a nice spin move that time,
and Johnson just grabbed on to him.
Speaker 4 (02:00:57):
But Barbara did a nice job of that.
Speaker 2 (02:00:58):
Crow route went deep behind the linebackers and then there
was a big gap between the linebackers and the safeties.
Speaker 3 (02:01:04):
Yeah, it didn't count, but boy Byron Center really on
their heels now after giving up that one. We'll see
if they come right back to the ground.
Speaker 2 (02:01:09):
Darren Jones Junior Oh hit in the backfield but spins
out of it and Positive Gardage almost broke free inside
the thirty five to the thirty three yard LI like,
he is fun to watch, And I agree with your partner.
You were all over him in the pre game.
Speaker 1 (02:01:22):
Say this guy doesn't get enough credit with all the
other stars they have. Darren Jones Junior has been a
star of the state championship game.
Speaker 3 (02:01:28):
Well, we just have not seen Byron Center miss this
many tackles, and Darren Jones Junior is a big reason
why he runs hard. He's not as big as either
the Pain brothers, who also run incredibly hard.
Speaker 2 (02:01:38):
But boy, I'll tell you what number five is tough
to bring.
Speaker 1 (02:01:40):
Down Van dam the NOSEGD had a shot at him
in the backfield, couldn't bring him down.
Speaker 4 (02:01:45):
Second down in twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:01:46):
Oh, almost dangerous play again trying to swing in the
right flats to Darren Jones Junior, and that was deflected
and incomplete.
Speaker 2 (02:01:55):
So now it's third down in twenty. Well, it's just
a bubble trying to run the bubble screen.
Speaker 3 (02:01:59):
The offense lineman let the defenders through and then come
out to get in front of eight. But it was
dangerous because you keep having Farro get upfield there and
kind of gets in the passing lane and makes it
tough to connect.
Speaker 1 (02:02:11):
They're going with more of a nickel package here for
Byron Center as they bring out band Damn that time
on third and twenty. They get third and seventeen, they
say on the board here from the Byron Center thirty
three yard line, Newell out of the shotgun pressure from
the inside double Field and he's got to throw it away.
Speaker 2 (02:02:31):
Fourth down and long coming up for it. To Lake
Saint Mary's credit, the Byron Center defense getting pressure that time,
forced him out of the pocket.
Speaker 3 (02:02:39):
And they didn't even bring up Blitze. That's what they
do in passing situations. They've done this all year. Kellen
Paint at defensive tackle. I have yet to find an
offensive lineman they can block Kellen Payne.
Speaker 1 (02:02:49):
He did it again, but look who it was though,
number fifty year right. He drew two blockers trying to
block him. But that freed up s Doublefield, who has
been getting pressure and getting into the secondary or get
into the back field for to Lake Saint Mary's offense
days out there, fourth and seventeen from the Byron Center
thirty three yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:03:07):
Really that gray area that bu Gino talks about. Back
to pass, Newell cross the middle field touchdown, dropped it
in the basket.
Speaker 1 (02:03:15):
Beautiful catch at the five yard line instride.
Speaker 2 (02:03:18):
But what a throw by Newle to Angelo Chapman. I
thought it was a screen pass. Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:03:24):
All of the Byron Center defensive linemen got free and
Axel Newell just hit Angelo Chapman right up the seam
wide open. Kelly Payne has unblocked right up the middle.
Speaker 2 (02:03:36):
He hit him as he threw it and he just
dropped it in the bucket right there. What a pass
by Newell and what a catch.
Speaker 1 (02:03:44):
It was an easy one instride by Chapman, but with
a man in his face like you mentioned. Wow, Kellen
Payne was right there and hit him right after he
released the football. Extra point is up and good and
that's Beckett keep for tacking on one more and what
a shocker. At the end of the third quarter or
(02:04:06):
forty three seconds left to go to third the lead
has now grown to twenty eight to thirteen and four
favor of Rsue Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (02:04:13):
We'll step aside here at Ford Field to come back

Their drive to Ford Field is on with the MHSAA
High School Football Playoffs presented by Benderlin Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (02:05:30):
Right here on ninety six one the game.
Speaker 1 (02:05:36):
Billy Hard Debraun kicking it off is short, high end
over end kick taking on the fly by one of
the up men, and that was number thirty six that time.
Connor Kneelin as he does a nice job getting up
field across the thirty so to the thirty three yard
line is where this Byron Center drive will start.
Speaker 2 (02:05:57):
But boy, what a backbreaker.
Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
Twenty eight to thirteen our score on that last scoring
drive by.
Speaker 2 (02:06:02):
The Eaglitz Jay.
Speaker 3 (02:06:04):
Yeah, that Orchid Lake Saint Mary's scoring drive. I'll get
there eventually. Stay with me.
Speaker 1 (02:06:14):
First down and Ted, we'll get it. After this play
Land and ton Gate one back each way. Isaac Lee
split wine of the right, wants to go to Lee
rolling to his right now, I'm gonna tuck it and run.
Nice cutback spin out of a tackle. A great job
by Landon tong Gate, maybe his best run of the nineties.
He's across the forty out just shy the forty two
yard line for a gain of eight second and two
(02:06:35):
of This is a must score drive here for BC.
Speaker 2 (02:06:38):
That might be, by the way, the final play this
third quarter.
Speaker 3 (02:06:41):
That Orcher Lake Saint Mary's scoring drive eight plays, seventy
eight yards.
Speaker 2 (02:06:46):
It took two minutes and.
Speaker 3 (02:06:48):
Ten seconds off the clock, and it was capped off
with the touchdown pass from Alex Newell to Angelo Chapman.
Speaker 1 (02:06:56):
Tongue going near side, breaks free inside the forty god
inside the thirty five.
Speaker 2 (02:07:01):
They just outmanned them to the near side.
Speaker 1 (02:07:03):
They saw something with a quick snap or to Lake
Saint Mary's defense wasn't ready and he's inside the thirty
down of the twenty seven yard line. A little momentum
for BC to end the third quarter. What a run
by Land and Tongate. So thirty six minutes in the books,
we'll come back with the final twelve. He're at Ford Field,
but Byron Center back in business. Here they twile at
(02:07:26):
twenty eight to thirteen after three as you're listed to
Championship Weekend live from Ford Field here on ninety six
to one the game.
Speaker 2 (02:07:34):

This is the Drive to Ford Field presented by vander
Lahn Home Improvement.
Speaker 2 (02:09:06):
Here on ninety six to one the game.
Speaker 4 (02:09:12):
Repickina Jason Nutt filling in for Bunk Gino.
Speaker 1 (02:09:14):
Back here high above the plane surface at Ford Fields
will welcome you back.
Speaker 2 (02:09:18):
Final twelve minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
Gonna be a doozy here twenty eight to thirteen Byron Center,
down two scores.
Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
But that thirty two yard.
Speaker 1 (02:09:26):
Run to end the third quarter by landon Tongate and
you saw it on the replay j there, they just
outmanned it.
Speaker 2 (02:09:32):
But what a block by Luke Alaska.
Speaker 3 (02:09:34):
Yeah, what they did was they ran Tonggate left, and
so they gave mister spy Ryan Fresquez a little farther
to get to Tounguate and they blocked down with Luke
Alaska the h back and that freed up Tongate for
the big game. How about that the last two plays
forty yards for Land and Tungate after he'd been bottled
up the entire game to that point.
Speaker 1 (02:09:52):
Yeah, and we'll keep an eye on if they kind
of counter that spine that we've seen from Fresquez by
bringing different blockers from different angles maybe on a play
like that, to try to free him up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:10:02):
Because, like you said so.
Speaker 1 (02:10:04):
Well, Jane, we both called games with Byron Center this year.
I mean, just look at his numbers that I went
through in the pregame. Seventeen hundred and eighty four yards
passing twenty three touchdowns, fourteen hundred and seven yards rushing
twenty five touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (02:10:15):
I realize he's playing.
Speaker 1 (02:10:16):
A very good defense and a lot of great talent
for morch of Lake Saint Mary's on the other side tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:10:22):
But impressive what they've done. But now maybe Byron Center
has found something.
Speaker 1 (02:10:26):
First in ten they have it from the twenty seven
yard line orchill Lake Saint Mary's, they'll motion de Man
fake it to him. Tongugate running left side, has a
crease on his feet inside the twenty five, spins on.
Speaker 2 (02:10:36):
A tackle the twenty, still fighting inside the fifteen.
Speaker 1 (02:10:39):
He's got a first down down to the fourteen yard line.
What a run of thirteen more for number four Land
and Tonguegate.
Speaker 3 (02:10:47):
I'll tell you what, I don't know if Byron Center's
gonna win this game, But They are not gonna go
down without clawing and scrapping and giving everything they have
Landed Tounggate just refused to go down. That's an incredible
run all the way down to the fourteen yard and
it feels some momentum.
Speaker 1 (02:11:01):
Now, yeah, I was just gonna say, isn't this the
way it's been though for Byron Center? Their will to
win the senior leadership, the plane together.
Speaker 2 (02:11:09):
It's not just a Land and Tonguay team.
Speaker 1 (02:11:11):
He's certainly been a key part of it, but so
many different guys, like a Campaign stepping up tonight, first
down in ten speaking of that on Q handoff, campaign.
Speaker 2 (02:11:19):
Cuts back, fights his way down of the ten yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:11:22):
I love the fight of the bulldogs and that was
Kellen Payne. Those two guys are gonna screw me up
for the rest of the season twenty two and thirty two.
And you said it. I mean they're built very similar
and they run similar. They run so hard, just like
Lann Tuge runs. They're tough to bring down and right
now they're running.
Speaker 3 (02:11:39):
Through arm tackles and Saint Mary's had to get around
his ankles to finally drag him down.
Speaker 2 (02:11:43):
But now before he got five.
Speaker 1 (02:11:44):
Yards Kellen Payne strong run there, second and five, they
can get a first down inside the four big hole.
Speaker 2 (02:11:51):
Land a tong Guy touchdown, takes it in from ten
yards out, just found a crease on a nice cut
back to the left side over that off defensive line
and BC.
Speaker 1 (02:12:02):
As we talked about back in business, do you go
for two here? Jays twenty eight to nineteen?
Speaker 3 (02:12:07):
I would kick it. I would stay within one score
here if I can. When I really like in this situation,
if you have a fake extra point because he kind
of lulled his sleep, but it looks like the offense
is gonna stay out there. They're gonna try to get
within seven. But a great run by Tongu Gate running
left that time.
Speaker 2 (02:12:22):
He started right. Yeah, it kind of showed pass right
a little quarterback drawing that one.
Speaker 3 (02:12:26):
I don't know how much Saint Mary's was buying it.
But an excellent job of blocking up front from that
bulldog offensive line.
Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
And now they're bringing in the wide receiver. Corps Lake
is coming in also checking into Swartz. You can stay
with a hot hand here there right, it's either gonna
be Cam or Tongue Gate. I would think out of
the pistol formation, tongue Gate went back to the left
of him.
Speaker 2 (02:12:49):
I'm gonna fire to the right.
Speaker 1 (02:12:50):
Side Isaac Lean hit and drop short of the touchdown
area at the two yard line. Well played that time
by which of Lake Saint Mary is defensively, they sniffed
that one out. They had two guys over there and
your guy again that you talked about safety coming up
strong Wis Patterson.
Speaker 2 (02:13:06):
Yeah, those safeties are really good.
Speaker 3 (02:13:08):
And this is why I like kicking the extra point there,
because you stay within one score. I guess if you
look at it from the other side, though, now you
know ten forty five left, you know you need two scores.
That changes the game a little bit, right Like orche
Lake Samury's gonna play a little more conservative because it's
gonna be tough to score two more times in Byron
Center because they might have a possession and a half
left in this game, kind of depending on what happens.
Speaker 2 (02:13:28):
I know he got an extra point block.
Speaker 1 (02:13:30):
But they do have two good kickers that we need
to point out. Parker Wiggins, the freshman who's been doing
the extra points, but Dawson Hillard, who's been their main
kicker most of the year, not just on kickoffs, but
on extra points and field goals. Has a good foot
as well, so keep that in mind if they need
to work a field goal in there. As now, Byron
(02:13:52):
Center hands team out for to Lake Saint Mary's. They
got Bryce and Williams, but he's way up at the
twenty five yard line as their deep man. They're thinking
on side kick here, lots of time to play though
ten forty five. I think if I'm Byron Center, I
kick it away from Bryce and Williams and see if
you can't get someone flying down there with a loose ball.
Remember that's a live ball, and a kickoff Byron Center
(02:14:14):
was off sides and a pedalty flag coming out. That's
exactly what they were gonna do. By the way, just
try to kick it to one of the coffin corners.
Make Williams go get it.
Speaker 2 (02:14:24):
Well, I gotta do it five yards back. They're a
little anxious to try to get down there.
Speaker 1 (02:14:29):
Guy, Yeah they were so Williams. Could you hear the
pedalty call? So defensive encroachment on the kicking team. They'll
back them up and as Jay said, retee it just
to recap twenty eight to nineteen now or to Lake
Saint Mary's over Byron Center, ten forty five left to
go in regulation after the Land and Tonguegate ten yard
(02:14:50):
touchdown run to cap off that last scoring drive for
the Bulldogs with a huge contingency of orange and black
here below us last one out, shut the lights off
and Byron Center for this one first time they've ever
been here in school history, folks, and going toe to
toe with a playoff giant orch to Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (02:15:13):
That one more of a squibkit going back to field.
Speaker 1 (02:15:15):
That nice job on a fly was one of the
upman fortun Lake Saint Mary's feel that the thirty then
got up the field across the thirty five to the
thirty seven yard line. Nice job on the return that
time for Saint Mary's was Bryce Jadzik. That was kind
of a weird play though he was running backwards. You
don't see that too often and fielding it off of
(02:15:35):
the hop and.
Speaker 3 (02:15:36):
He did a nice job and still getting a feeling.
You start from the thirty seven, so that's not bad deal.
Position that Byron Center scoring drive five plays sixty seven yards,
minute and fifty seconds off the clock and its cap
by the Land and tungate ten yard touchdown run.
Speaker 1 (02:15:51):
Axel Newell stays in there at quarterback. Surprise, we haven't
seen Javin Gonzalez at all.
Speaker 2 (02:16:00):
Surprised. First down and Bryson.
Speaker 1 (02:16:02):
Williams now breaking free to the near side as they
had him again to the backfield. Oh, great open field
tackle by Isaac Lee. He got a first down across
the midfield. Strife to the bulldog forty nine give him fourteen.
But again you've touched on something that has been a
big aspect of this game for those who aren't able
to see it live. Byron Centers had some running backs
(02:16:23):
bottle up Fort Lakes Marys but have.
Speaker 3 (02:16:25):
Been able to finish off the tackle and watching some
of the Archie Lakes Sat Mary games this year, certainly
they hand the ball to Bryson Williams a little bit
on the jet, but nothing like this. I mean, he's
got thirteen carries in this game.
Speaker 4 (02:16:38):
Yeah, handoff now, big hole.
Speaker 1 (02:16:40):
Darren Jones right over center down and signed the forty five,
crashing down to the forty four yard line. Bainbridge had
a chance last time to get him.
Speaker 3 (02:16:51):
Darren Jones at one hundred and eighteen yards rushing in
this game, Bryson Williams just five away from one hundred himself,
and they gonna have two guys over. In fact, bryceon
Williams is over one hundred yard mark after that carry,
so they already have two runners over one hundred yards
in this game.
Speaker 1 (02:17:04):
Aiden rings on the tackle, big number seventy seven up
front for BC second and five, working from the BC
forty four yard line. Whether this would be a backbreaker
for the Bulldogs they give up a score here, works
so hard to get back within nine nine twenty five
and ticking left to go or to Lake Saint Maury
is happy just to drain this clock as much as
they can. Handoff Jones left side, big hold inside the
(02:17:27):
thirty five, touch back of the thirty inside the twenty
and finally bringing him down once again, Isaac Lee saving
a touchdown, but not before number five rambling down to
the fifteen yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:17:39):
Yeah, it's just that least side of the offensive line
virture to Lake Saint Mary's, you know, I mean, Abram
Marstiel's over there, fifty five. John Kolarcik is playing and
playing well, and I mean they're just blowing guys off
the ball, and Jones is fast. I mean when he's
in the open field, he is tough.
Speaker 1 (02:17:54):
That offensive line right around three hundred pounds on that
left side. Handoff, now, Goikey and look at him push forward,
trying to get extra outite to the eleven game of
four on that left side. Rings over there defensively Kellen
Faine as well, and I think you're starting to see
a little fatigued by this PC defense as well.
Speaker 4 (02:18:12):
Those big heavies are leaning on you.
Speaker 3 (02:18:14):
They've moved Chris Brown Junior out to defensive end. He
usually plays the three techniques, so he got Rings and
Fan Dam in there. And now we see Jackson Bovia
come in as well to play up front.
Speaker 2 (02:18:25):
As Rings comes out.
Speaker 1 (02:18:29):
One back in the backfield, Goik behind Newel gonna get
the handoff. Big hole inside the ten bites his way
down near that first style marker at the five.
Speaker 3 (02:18:39):
Yeah, a rare run right that time with Goik. They
went over right guard. They've been running left all day long.
But they're a nice hole again in a first and
goal situation for Saint Mary Biros.
Speaker 2 (02:18:49):
There's gonna make play here.
Speaker 3 (02:18:50):
If they don't find a way to keep on the
end zone, you know it's gonna be too tough.
Speaker 1 (02:18:54):
Darren Jones Junior gets a breathere. You haven't got like Goiki.
You can bring in and get a carry like that
with his speed and power. And now Jones back in there,
trying to finish things off. First and goal just outside
the five. Newell takes a snap from center head off
Jones looking for a hole in that time, ran into
a wall of black. Good job, Laska was in there,
(02:19:17):
Jackson Bovie and.
Speaker 2 (02:19:18):
There as well. Normally doesn't play defense like you mentioned.
And there's a good job winning first down.
Speaker 3 (02:19:23):
But it's a goal to go situation, so second and
goal from the four goal line stand is needed or
even a turnover urch Lake Saint Mary's is not turned
the ball over in this game.
Speaker 1 (02:19:33):
Look at the heavy package they're bringing it now, extra
lineman in the backfield, by the way, our wing Tsey
fan of the game coming up, You can set to
redouls now in six one, six, four, five, four, thirty
seven seventy six. Two more offensive linemen just in the
backfield over the right side. You think they're gonna run
that way? Wildcat during Jones Junior powers his way in
from five yards out touchdown or to Lake Saint Mary's
(02:19:59):
and that might be the exclamation point.
Speaker 2 (02:20:01):
Thirty four to nineteen.
Speaker 1 (02:20:03):
Now the extra point up coming was seven oh four
left to go here in the contest.
Speaker 3 (02:20:07):
Yeah, you know, big number ninety Kyrie Williams has played
such a good game on defense. They bring him in
as the H back there and they just run behind him,
and you got Cameron Milness over there as an H
back and just a whole bunch of big bodies and
you just get in there.
Speaker 2 (02:20:23):
David Jones a direct snap and pound one.
Speaker 1 (02:20:26):
In extra point up and good. He's been perfect on
the night. So thirty five nineteen or to Lake Saint
Mary's leads it now by sixteen with seven oh four
left to go here at Ford Field, we'll take time out.
With the time out of the field, come back with Morris.

Speaker 2 (02:22:16):
Let's do this right now.
Speaker 1 (02:22:17):
We'll take caller ten to our studios, Joe Aeron standing
by six one six four five four thirty seven seventy six.
That's caller ten right now, six one six four five
four thirty seven seventy six. If you're the correct call
to Joe and you haven't won it all this football season,
you're gonna be our wing Doozy.
Speaker 2 (02:22:34):
Fan of the game.
Speaker 1 (02:22:35):
Will announce that coming up in our post game coverage
from Ford Field, Caller ten right now six one, six,
four to five, four thirty seven seventy six to score
that twenty five dollars gift card Best Wings in the
Midwest with Wing Doozy or to Lake Saint Mary's after
the touchdown kicks it away low line driving kick taking
(02:22:55):
by was that Kellen Payne. I think they moved up
and he's across the thirty five to the thirty eight
yard line before they n pile so first and ten
Byron Center twelve and one. The Bulldog's coming in up
against it after that last score, and let's take a
look at that orchard. Lake Saint Mary's scoring drive once
(02:23:16):
again capped off by number five. Darren Jones, who's having a.
Speaker 2 (02:23:19):
Night, Yeah, Darren Jones. Big game.
Speaker 3 (02:23:21):
Seven plays sixty three yards, three minutes, thirty three seconds
off the clock, and it was capped off by the
Darren Jones four yard touchdown run. Jones in this game
nineteen carries one hundred and fifty two yards two.
Speaker 1 (02:23:33):
Scores, landing tongue gaining company back to work. First down
and ten. The senior rolling to his right, looking looking
nowhere to go, avoids one tackler, then gets thrown forward
across the forty to forty one yard line. Now the
stop was Chase Arnold. We've called his name quite a
bit tonight. Two men areroute that time.
Speaker 3 (02:23:52):
They're trying to get it to Isaac Lee, who's well
covered bound there by a guy we haven't called much tonight,
rece Hurst, the outstanding junior corner number zero for Saint
Mary's hung Gate, does well to avoid a sack and
then breaks the tackle. Didn't make turn it into a
gain of four, But time of the essence at this point.
Speaker 1 (02:24:06):
Perst was in there on that two point stop on
the tackle of Isaac Lee. On that last scoring drive
by Byron Center, second down and seven fire out to
Lee who goes down low to make the catch good
at the forty five in front of the coverage that
time with Christopher Coats.
Speaker 3 (02:24:21):
Yeah, same Area's gonna let that happen. If you have
four yards and keep the clock running, they're gonna.
Speaker 2 (02:24:25):
Let you do that.
Speaker 1 (02:24:27):
Third and three coming up Byron Center from their own
forty five down thirty five nineteen Tonguay back to pass, now,
gonna tuck it in, run, got the first down, cuts back,
got the running room inside the forty inside the thirty
five down inside the orch of Lake Saint Mary's thirty
that twenty eight yard line. Boy number four has been
fun to watch for four years for Byron Center. Big
(02:24:48):
game for Landon Tongate. How about the blocking two by
the offensive line.
Speaker 2 (02:24:51):
Hit a hole right in the middle and then a
nice cupback here.
Speaker 3 (02:24:55):
Yeah, tongu Gate's just so good in the past plays.
And then deciding to run.
Speaker 2 (02:24:59):
That's what he did.
Speaker 1 (02:25:00):
Tong Gate swings it out in the flats, and that
one's gonna be for a loss. It was complete on
the catch that time four Byron Center was landing Conrad,
but stopped behind the last.
Speaker 2 (02:25:11):
Scribbage for a loss of two.
Speaker 1 (02:25:12):
At the thirty Stay with us for the Discount Door
postgame show brought to you by Discount Door and Ground
Rapids after this one is done, providing services and installation
since nineteen ninety. Right there in Westernvery Drive, lookout tongue
Gate under duress and it's too many white Jerseys. Couple
were trying to take his head off and finally finished
off that time by Ortrall Lake Saint Mary's number thirty eight,
(02:25:34):
make thirty six.
Speaker 3 (02:25:37):
That's Darryl Williams Junior. Yeah, I mean Byron Center down
two scores. I mean George Lakes and Mary's just pitting
their ears back and they're they're coming after him. Tuggate's
gonna make the fifth or sixth guy make the play,
but he's leaning and falling forward when he finally gets
hit brought to the ground. But now you're sitting in
a third and seventeen right, and you just used your
(02:25:58):
second time out.
Speaker 1 (02:26:00):
Mark Cisco talking it over the offense. Five oh six
left to go? Want to preview the action coming up tomorrow?
Do forget Jason and Tom Kendro will be on the
call on one oh seven. Mus the Moose John Stilito
as Scott Zealand West back here again in the high
school football finals. Great team led by their quarterback Tray
Slow Talk, and I tell you they're gonna go up
against a very good Detroit.
Speaker 4 (02:26:21):
Martin Luther King team.
Speaker 1 (02:26:23):
And that will be noon with the pre game coverage
twelve thirty kickoff that will be on the normal fan
duel Sports network channel known as Valley Sports Detroit before
tonight's game on the Plus. And then of course tomorrow night,
Buck Gino will join me here at Ford Field for
the Division one State championship game Hudsonville, and talk about
up against it. I know the Eagles are the okare
(02:26:43):
red chances, but troitcast Deck might be as good as
a team we have in the state of Misigan, regardless
of the division.
Speaker 3 (02:26:47):
Well, we saw cast Tech League one at Rockford. Rockford
won that game, but you can know cas Tech has
certainly gotten a lot better since week one.
Speaker 2 (02:26:56):
Hust will have their hands fy. I think that's a
really good matchup. Yep.
Speaker 1 (02:26:58):
But like Byron Center had to be playing their best
football right now. They ended Toungugate rolling to his left,
look out pressure on the backside, gonna throw on the run,
got his man Isaac Lee makes the first man missed
and dance out of bounds inside the twenty five to
the twenty four yard line. So a good job of
making this manageable. After it was third and long, they're
looking at a fourth and six coming up after the
(02:27:22):
connection finally from Tongu Gate to Lee.
Speaker 3 (02:27:24):
But another good job in Saint Mary's getting pressure like
Byron Center rolled the pocket to the left that time,
and he gets steal getting pressure on Tonguate. He had
to keep it alive just to finally get it off,
and then Lee had to come back for it. Thus
just a twelve yard game and setting up fourth down
and six certainly more manageable. But if Tongue it had
a little more time, they could have potentially gotten first down.
Speaker 2 (02:27:44):
There four fifty eight left to go on this one.
Speaker 1 (02:27:46):
Clock stopped because he went out of bounce fourth and six,
and now now Byron Center wants to take another time out.
We'll keep it right here and remind you in our
Discount Door postgame show brought to you by our friends
at Discount Door.
Speaker 2 (02:28:03):
Family owned an operator for more than thirty years. By
the way, I mentioned located on West River. Job.
Speaker 1 (02:28:07):
When it comes to protecting your home or business. Discount
Door is the broad supplier you can trust. Jay will

will announce and our JDH Family Stores highlight of the game.
(02:28:29):
And boy did we have some highlights. If you're just
tuning in and you're going back, I mean, just look
at the campaign.
Speaker 4 (02:28:35):
Fifty six yard touchdown run. How impressive that was.
Speaker 1 (02:28:38):
Some big plays for Orchard Lake Saint Mary's too, But
Bryce and Williams with a couple of touchdown runs.
Speaker 2 (02:28:44):
Darren Jones now with a couple of touchdown runs. Yea
d Angelo Chapman touchdown reception.
Speaker 1 (02:28:49):
Yeah down, that was big, huge, and you made a
great point off the air. Jay, we were talking about
that that you're gonna look at his numbers and say, well,
he didn't really have a great performance. But Axel Newell
under pressure threw the one before that out of bounds
and then they still had a chance to play. It
didn't force anything, or it might have been a turnover.
And then comes up with a drop in the basket
(02:29:10):
with Kellen Payne right in his face on fourth down,
and that was the backbreaker really in this game.
Speaker 3 (02:29:15):
I thought that was two huge plays by Axel Nowell.
You can see why he has a Toledo offer, you know,
six foot four pocket passer, but he was pressured on
third down, remember it was third and what twelve and
he gets out of the pocket, throws it away, so
you live to see another down, and you go for
it on fourth down, and he gets Kellen Payne right
in his face like in no time and delivers a
perfect pass to wide open Angela Chapman. I thought those
(02:29:35):
are two huge plays in this game to take this
from twenty one to nineteen, excuse me, twenty one thirteen
to twenty eight thirteen and really set Saint Mary's up
here now for a chance to win the game.
Speaker 1 (02:29:45):
So fourth down and six after the timeout, let's see
what Mark Cisco and Byron Center dial up here down
sixteen thirty five to nineteen Georgia Lake, Saint Mary's trying
to go for state championship, number nine in high school football.
Jermaine Gonzaleze be his first as a head coach for
the Elitz.
Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
Obviously a tremendous quarterback, went on to play at the
University of Michigan.
Speaker 4 (02:30:06):
Just down the road Alaska.
Speaker 1 (02:30:09):
Out of the pistol excuse me, a tongueate out of
the pistol formation, throws across the middle, going to his
knees and making the catch for the first down at
the eleven yard line. Great catch that was Will Lake
number eighteen, first and ten Byron Center.
Speaker 3 (02:30:23):
Just a little mesh there. Chase Schwartz goes out, Will
Lake comes inside. Lake's wide open and Tongueate able to
find him and they get get the first down by
about two yards.
Speaker 1 (02:30:31):
Four Wilde receivers to the right, one to the left.
Let's see if they attack Isaac Lee theer by himself.
That's where they want to go with the fate pattern
over the top end, just too far out of bounds,
trying to haul it in at the three yard line.
Good coverage that time. And I tell you what number
twenty two Christopher Coach has played a whale of the
game Fort Lake. Sam Mury's you talk about their secondary
their secondary has been outstanding to.
Speaker 2 (02:30:51):
Their secondary is really good.
Speaker 3 (02:30:53):
And Ryan Harrington got through on the blitz and was
right in tongu Gate's face and forced him to throw that,
I think a little sooner than he wanted, and Toungay
just kind of threw it high on purpose to live
and see another down.
Speaker 2 (02:31:04):
Three wide receivers to the right.
Speaker 1 (02:31:05):
They will keep Cam Payne in the backfield to the
right of Tonguegate. Isaac Lee, by himself left, takes his
snapper into his right, fires tough outpattern incomplete, unable to
make the catch of the eleven yard line. Was Lake
Rapid Radio scoreboard update brought to you by a friends
with Rappid Radios from earlier to day. In Division eight,
to start the day here at ford Field Build City
(02:31:26):
winning the state title over review Gable was shared forty
three to fourteen. In Division four, was good Rich the
Martians thirty five to six. They get it done over
Niles and Division six right before our game. Boy, what
a performance it was by Kendall Williams, Jackson Lum and
Christie fifty six to eighteen over Lansing Catholic.
Speaker 3 (02:31:45):
Yeah, they were scored early and often in that game.
They had two touchdowns in less than five minutes. I
didnt even get the ball to start the game.
Speaker 4 (02:31:50):
Swinging out to Kellen playing in the fat flats.
Speaker 1 (02:31:53):
He makes the first man miss and then down to
the ten yard line before he's dropped there on the
tackle with Chase Arnold for orch of Lake.
Speaker 2 (02:32:01):
Saint Mary's good job of avoiding the tackle of Kamari Patterson.
Speaker 3 (02:32:05):
Yeah, pain, Pain's good when Saint Mary's just pursues the
football so well. But even when he makes a man miss,
there's only another yard or two there for him.
Speaker 2 (02:32:12):
Fourth and four, gonna go for it.
Speaker 1 (02:32:14):
Tongueate under pressure, throws across him, he'll knocked away defensively,
and guess who Patterson again knocking it away at the
five yard line. Turnover on downs and the Eaglet's starting
to celebrate on the far sideline once again.
Speaker 3 (02:32:27):
Tongue Gate under pressure, and he knew on fourth down
he had to get rid of it and he had
to try to give his guy a chance. But Prewett
just right there on Kellen Payne was able to deflect
it away as Luke Jackson the linebackers kind of rotated
in there for the Eglos was able to provide the
pressure on the blitz.
Speaker 1 (02:32:45):
Yeah, he had to release it off his back foot
a little behind pain and that allowed the defender who
was in close coverage Patterson and knock it away. So
orch of Lake Saint Mary's four to oh three left
to go before they can celebrate a state championship three
and six a year ago. And with the win here,
Tonight an eleven win season, Jay an eight win turnarounds
(02:33:08):
into the ballgame now for the first time, Tonight is
jabbing Gonzalez.
Speaker 3 (02:33:13):
Yeah, he's the future, right because Axel Newell is graduating,
so jab it will be the guy for the next
two years. And Saint Mary's got some really good seniors,
but they've also got some good young players as well,
so I don't expect that they'll have too much of
a drop off next year. But this has been an
impressive performance.
Speaker 1 (02:33:31):
Legal procedure against which Lake Saint Mary's a big hole
for Jones on the handoff of the left side.
Speaker 4 (02:33:36):
Will Lake just can't bring him down. Look at him.
Speaker 1 (02:33:38):
They're trying to strip the football and finally they rustle
him down with three black jerseys around him across the
fifteen out to the eighteen yard line. Will Lake was
definitely trying to strip the football there.
Speaker 3 (02:33:51):
You know, it's kind of a new era in the
Catholic League, right, all those years of Tom Mack and
Alfrakasa and George Porrett, they've all moved on. Now you've
got justice to Santana's first year to try cat essentially
always state semifinals and d one. You got Aaron Marshall
came over to Brother Rice after he won the state
championships South Philly on te last year. I hear their
younger classes are absolutely loaded. And now you got Jermaigan
dollas year winning a state championship in year number three.
Speaker 2 (02:34:12):
And our own guy Dan Rohan.
Speaker 1 (02:34:14):
Of course it's only been a few years at Warren
de Lasal, but what a job he's done there five years.
Second down in short Jones breaks the tackle still on
his feet across the thirty and finally whipped down on
the tackle.
Speaker 2 (02:34:26):
That time was landing Conrad for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 1 (02:34:29):
Otherwise he was off to the races, maybe to score
his third touchdown of the night.
Speaker 3 (02:34:34):
Well Byron centers out of timeouts and we're going under
three minutes to play in this game. So Saint Mary's
isn't huddling. They're to the line. But of course they're gonna.
Speaker 2 (02:34:41):
They're rotating other players in though.
Speaker 3 (02:34:43):
Well they're not gonna snap it. They're gonna run the
play clock for sure.

What a field there in Sat Graves, the athletic director
at Cornerstone is put together and how many different schools
from across West Mischig and beyond.
Speaker 2 (02:35:17):
Boys and girls program is going to be a part
of that.
Speaker 1 (02:35:20):
Excited to announce Jason Hutton will be doing some games
with me along with Buck Chino.
Speaker 3 (02:35:26):
Yeah, looking forward to basketball seat it's alredy underway. Boys
have already played a week Byron Center.
Speaker 1 (02:35:31):
Got a nice victory over Covenant Christian the other night
before Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (02:35:35):
It's so weird.
Speaker 1 (02:35:36):
First down to ten oh, almost spinning out of a tackle,
and he would add some green grass in front of him.
Speaker 2 (02:35:41):
Isaac Lee made the tackle.
Speaker 3 (02:35:42):
Of course they didn't the basketball team didn't have Isaac Lee,
but right, he's gonna help them this year.
Speaker 1 (02:35:48):
Richard goike on the carry for three second and seven. Yeah,
that was what was amazing is Pirate Center and there
wrestling team obviously missing some guys as well. As that
season gets underway. Most of the schools though, will play
starting this week. You'll see Tuesday Night with a full
loaded schedule. We talked about South Christian hosting Granfft's Christian.
Always fun for that rivalry, but a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (02:36:10):
With Life Saving Night with what happened with the Kent
County Sheriff's Department and those two officers responded helping save
a student athlete's life that was participating in the Division
one tennis championship. Is Goikey gets the first down, runs
out of bounds across the forty out to the forty
(02:36:31):
five yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:36:32):
A nice run by Dick goik But boy, you don't
want to go out of bounds up sixteen.
Speaker 2 (02:36:36):
I'd like to keep the clock riding. But he did
get the first down.
Speaker 1 (02:36:39):
One fifty two left to go on this one thirty
five nineteen or till Lake Saint Mary's in front. Last
time they were here is twenty sixteen, and they're making
it pay this time. And how about the different talent
have goik now breaks a tackle inside the forty, inside
the thirty town the sideline. Ooh, big hit, knocked out
of bounds inside the Bulldog twenty yard line, and they'll
(02:37:00):
spot him.
Speaker 2 (02:37:00):
At the eighteen.
Speaker 3 (02:37:03):
Yeah, I mean, it's just the story of the game.
Orcherd Lake Saint Mary's is now almost of four hundred
yards rushing in this game. That run will put them
over three ninety. They've just run it that well. Their
offensive line deserves all the credit. I mean, they've just
been moving people out of the way.
Speaker 2 (02:37:21):
Will Lake saved the touchdown there.
Speaker 1 (02:37:22):
Isaac Lee missed him around the ankles near the line
of scrimmage. And that's the other thing you talked about
that we just haven't seen all year, besides you know,
bottling up Landing Toungate. This defense for Byron Center giving
up this amount.
Speaker 2 (02:37:33):
Of rushing yardage and again they're facing a huge offensive
line from Morch of Lake Saint Mary's as Goiki wrapped
up and dropped for no gain.
Speaker 3 (02:37:42):
I feel like the two biggest plays of this game,
right It's fourteen thirteen at the half, Byron Center gets
it to start the third quarter, they get third down,
tong Gate rolls out in Harrington hits them fumble, Saint
Mary's goes to the three, and then that fourth down
TD pass yep, that made it twenty eight nineteen or
excuse me, twenty eight thirteen. I just felt like that's
kind of where this game right.
Speaker 1 (02:38:00):
There, especially when you're expecting Byron Center probably to get
the ball back. I mean, the chances of making that
play percentage wise, let alone it went for a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (02:38:08):
Yeah, I mean that's the kind of a fourteen point swing.
It's kind of the difference in this game.
Speaker 4 (02:38:11):
But credit Axel Neewall. I mean he just dropped to
the bucket.
Speaker 1 (02:38:14):
Is Guiki now kind of tripped as he got the
handoff from Gonzalez.
Speaker 4 (02:38:18):
He'll lose yatage to the nineteen.
Speaker 1 (02:38:20):
They'll have to run one more play and then the
celebration is on for the Eglits of Orchard Lake. Saint
Mary's High School football State championship number nine for oilsm
and for Mark Cisco and the Bulldogs. I know you'd
like to cap it off with the Disney finish and
winning a state championship, But I tell you what, being
(02:38:41):
so close to this group live in this community, they
uplifted this community and I know Bulldog pride is shining
through right now, especially for the senior class. As they
take the snap, Gonzalez goes to a knee and that'll
do it. At the time, we'll run out here. Thirty
five nine nineteen Orchard Lake Saint Mary's wins it over
(02:39:02):
Byron Center. Congratulations Jermaine Gonzales his first state championship as
a head coach for his alma mater.
Speaker 3 (02:39:09):
Yeah, impressive. They were so impressive in the playoffs, no
question about it. They're a worthy champion. I'll tell you
what this will hurt for Byron Center, right, I mean,
this means so much to these kids and this coaching staff,
and they poured everything they had into it and their
run should not be forgotten and will not be forgotten
anytime too. And this was an unbelievable Byron Center team,
so good, they played complimentary football. They made an amazing
(02:39:33):
run that almost every team in the State would have
killed to be here today, and they did it. They
come up a little short to a really, really good opponent,
but boy, it was a lot of fun following this
Byron Center team all the way to Fort Field.
Speaker 4 (02:39:44):
He took the program to the next level. They really did.
Speaker 1 (02:39:47):
And you know, and talking to Mark Sisko this week,
he said they were great coaches ahead of me, and
I just kind of wanted to sustain what they were
doing and maybe take it to the next.
Speaker 2 (02:39:55):
Level, and certainly they did that.
Speaker 1 (02:39:58):
This edition of Byron Center Football is the end of
the year at twelve and two, losing in the state
championship game thirty five to nineteen, and with the win
orch of Lake Saint.
Speaker 2 (02:40:06):
Mary's not only a state championship.
Speaker 1 (02:40:08):
But they will finish the year at eleven and three
and obviously playing their best football of the season. Lots

Speaker 1 (02:44:50):
Everyone through the MKDU Funeral Homes scoring summery this one
the final again thirty five nineteen in favor of Orchard
Lake Saint Mary's.
Speaker 3 (02:44:58):
Byron Center gets on the board first and nine yard
touchdown run from Kellen Payne with five twelve to play
in the first quarter. Extra point from Parker Wiggins made
it seven and nothing. Saint Mary's countered with a Darren
Jones seven yard touchdown run with a minute and twelve
left in the first quarter. Extra point from Beckett keeper
tied the game at seven. Bulldogs go back in front
on a campaign fifty six yard touchdown run on fourth
(02:45:20):
and one with eleven twenty one to play in the
second quarter, but the extra point is blocked Byron Center.
Leads thirteen to seven. Then came a twelve minute stretch
where Achard Lake Saint Mary's outscores Byron Center twenty one
nothing and made all the difference in the game. With
a minute twenty four to play in the second quarter,
Bryson Williams a twelve yard touchdown run. The Keefer kick
made it fourteen to thirteen. Then, just one minute into
(02:45:42):
the third quarter, after a fumble recovery, returned to the
three yard line. Bryson Williams a three yard touchdown run
extra point from Keefer, it was twenty one to thirteen,
and then, with just forty three seconds to play in
the third quarter, on fourth down, Axel Newell connects with
Angelo Chapman on a thirty three yard touchdown pass. Extra
point from Keefer made it twenty eight thirteen. Landontungate did
(02:46:02):
score from ten yards out with ten forty five to
play in the game. Two point conversion pass to Isaac
Lee no good, and it's twenty eight nineteen. And then
Darren Jones one final time punches it in from four
yards out with seven Zho four to play in the game.
Keefer's extra point makes it Orchard Lake Saint Mary's thirty
five Byrons Center nineteen.

final here tonight Orch of Lake Saint Mariys gets it
done over Byron Center, and let's start as we hand
(02:51:19):
out some awards.
Speaker 2 (02:51:20):
Will also play back.
Speaker 1 (02:51:21):
For your highlight of the game, and certainly there are
a few of those on both sides. Before we set
the schedule for tomorrow, we've got two games coming away tomorrow,
Zealand West in Division three and also Hudsonville in Division one,
still alive from the West Michigan area. And Jay, let's
start with our uptown cheapskate offensive player of the game. Boy,
there was some playmakers and we highlighted those in the
pregame show going into this one for Morch of Lake
(02:51:41):
Saint Mary's. But I thought there was one running back
in particular, and they used a couple of them, Bryce
and Williams so they can move around anywhere. Headed off
to Michigan State next year. That really stood out, and
you highlighted him saying this guy doesn't get enough credit.
Speaker 2 (02:51:53):
We're gonna give him some credit right now tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:51:55):
Yeah, Darren Jones Junior, I don't know if he's gonna
play Division one football next year like Bryson wille Is.
But you want to win a high school football game,
you want to have number five on your team, and
Saint Mary's did, and they did twenty one carries, one
hundred and eighty one yards, two touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (02:52:09):
I thought he was really good. Probably could give the
Player of the.
Speaker 3 (02:52:11):
Game to any of those offensive linemen as well, who
also played well. But we're gonna go with Darren Jones
one hundred and eighty one yards rushing or choud Lake.
Saint Mary's ran for three hundred and ninety seven yards tonight.
Three hundred ninety seven of their four to thirty eight
was on the ground, and they got it up to
three ninety nine. If that thirty eight yard goiky run
there and then went back two yards and kneel down
on the final play.
Speaker 2 (02:52:30):
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 1 (02:52:31):
And you know what, Bryson Williams was as good as well,
two rushing touchdowns. But I want to go back to
what you just said and highlight this offensive line.
Speaker 2 (02:52:38):
Now, these are just the starters, and as.
Speaker 1 (02:52:40):
Jay alluded to, they roteated another guy in and listen
to the size Kennis Paul. Then you've got Abram Marcial,
Greg Smith, Antonio Johnson, Maleik Zowetta, and then Jaden Savory
was the tight end. Now, when you look at some
of these guys as far as their size, Greg Smith
five ten and one, I don't think so, so you
(02:53:05):
list him that way. I think more like two eighty.
But you look at some of the other guys. Antonio
Johnson goes three oh six. And then did you realize
the guy that you talked about, did they bring in
John Kohlerchick six six three.
Speaker 2 (02:53:18):
Thirty a junior, He wasn't a starter, mountain of a man.
Speaker 3 (02:53:21):
They didn't list him as a starter. He's one of
their top offensive line who's kind of been in and
out of the lineup. He played a lot tonight. And yeah,
six six three thirty. That's not even including Antonio Johnson,
who's over three hundred pounds in his offers from West Virginia,
Penn State, Michigan State, Illinois. So they're really good up there,
and they they proved it tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:53:36):
Kennis Paul six three to eighty. I don't think there's
a guy on Byron Center's team that's two eighty.
Speaker 1 (02:53:41):
Yeah, so impressive tonight, But obviously you know what size is.
One thing athleticism is one thing in speed, but you
got to put it all together. And that's the thing
that Orchid Lake Saint Mary's has done through this playoff run.
Let's not forget some of the teams that they beat,
including number one rank Birmingham Groves in overtime to.
Speaker 3 (02:53:57):
Get him went to overtime, and that's been I mean
Byron Center my opinion, his battle tests. When you played
the ski game Bona Shores, Forests North, they played some
really good teams in the Okay Green that played East
Can't would but orderly Saint Mary coming to that Catholic
ly they lost three times. I mean they got better
playing the likes of DLA Sound, Detroit Central and Toledo
Central Catholics.
Speaker 2 (02:54:14):
So it pays off.
Speaker 4 (02:54:16):
Congratulations.
Speaker 2 (02:54:17):
Always nice to see a senior too, as we see
a lot of seniors on both sides. Hugs.
Speaker 1 (02:54:20):
They realized this might be the final game of their
football career unless they're going on to play college. But
Darren Jones, the senior are Uptown Cheapskate. Player of the game.
Brought to you by Uptown Chiefs Skate with locations in Granville,
kent Wood, and Holland to serve you, Plus, you can
become an Uptown Insider get monthly deals at Uptown cheapskate

Speaker 2 (02:54:41):
Of the game. I think this guy just made big plays.
Speaker 1 (02:54:43):
Listen to the stat line, Ryan Harrington six ' four
to two O five and the bad news for everyone
else the Catholic League he's back next year as a
junior linebacker. Five tackles, but so productive with those tackles,
two sacks, three tackles for loss, and he was the
guy who hit land in to didn't see him coming
on the blitz and jarred the ball loose. That set
up that orche Lake Saint Mary's touchdown and obviously the
(02:55:06):
stop to start the second half.
Speaker 3 (02:55:07):
Yeah, that was the huge play to force the fumble
to go up eight points after the short field. But
he had, on top of the five tackles and three
tackles for lost in two sacks, plenty more quarterback pressures. Right,
he was in toung gates face a lot tonight in
the second half when Byron Center was forced to throw
the football.
Speaker 1 (02:55:22):
It's brought to you by our friends at Montel Construction.
Remember it's never too early to schedule that free estimate
as far as your next sixterior project with my home team,
Montel Construction dot com is where you can do it.
And that leads us finally to our J and HS
Family Stores highlight of the game. We saved the best
for last fourth down and long offense days out there
(02:55:42):
because they had the football at the Byron Center thirty
three and you need to make a play, Well, how
about your quarterback? And Axel Newell came through the senior
with this offense days out there fourth and seventeen from
the Byron Center thirty three yard line. Really that gray
area the buck Gino talks about.
Speaker 2 (02:56:00):
Back to pass Newell across the middle field, touchdown, dropped
it in at the basket, beautiful catch at the five
yard line instride, but want to throw by Newle to
Angelo Chapman.
Speaker 1 (02:56:13):
There It is your J and H Family Stores highlight
of the game. And you and I both agreed that
was really kind of the exclamation point, the backbreaker, the
stake in the heart if you want to for orcher
Lake Saint Mary's against Byron Center because Byron Center, get
to stop there.
Speaker 2 (02:56:25):
They still have life.
Speaker 3 (02:56:25):
Yeah, they have some momentum right down just Aid and
Callen Payne got through right away and have forced Newel
to throw it quickly and man, there he was open
and the ball was rant of the money.
Speaker 1 (02:56:36):
There's our jan H Family Stores Highlight of the Game,
brought to you by jan H Family Stores now with
sixty plus locations across Michigan to serve you jan H
Family Stores stomping on the way to your next game
or on your way home. Before we wrap things up,
want to thank John Ross, Mark Yule and everything everyone
here at the MHSA, Jeff Kimberly for their help with
our broadcast tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:56:54):
They'll help us tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (02:56:56):
And before I highlight our games tomorrow, Joe we're at
fantastic job this season and he'll do one more game
for us coming up tomorrow night with that Hudsonville matchup
that will highlight in a second. But I just want
to say Jay, thank you for stepping in for Buck
Gino and a great job. Also, you did play by
play for us this year as a Lake Shore Game
of the Week, but just to show why you're the
book and so versatile. Great job working with Bob Sack
(02:57:17):
who filled in for me last week. I want to
say thank you, Bob. I know he's listening tonight. Hopefully
the paint job turned out good, Bob, But you guys
did a phenomenal job this year and we were happy
to bring it on our areas, whether it was TKG
or ninety six to one, the game with Calvin Football.
Speaker 3 (02:57:31):
Yeah, I've had a lot of fun to spend a
great football season, to get back into doing radio, which
of course was my first love many years ago before
the TV days, and you know, doing the games with
Tom on Friday nights in the Micekegon area. I mean,
that's just been such a blast and we've had so
much fun. We got one more game tomorrow with Zeland.
Weast here at twelve thirty against Martners the King and
doing the games with Bob and Calvin, and it's given
me an opportunity to go back and forth and doing
(02:57:52):
play by play and doing some analyst work and well,
I just love it all.
Speaker 2 (02:57:55):
I can't get enough.
Speaker 1 (02:57:55):
All right, Well, thank you, partner, I appreciate it. Buck
Gino will join me tomorrow, and let's highlight that schedule.
So Buck and I well of the Hudsonville game, taking
on of course Detroit Cast Tech. That'll be six thirty
approximate with the Janus Family STOREES pregame show seven o'clock
kickoff right here on ninety six to one the game,
but earlier tomorrow in the afternoon noon pregame twelve thirty
with the kickoff with the Division three State championing game.
(02:58:18):
We're gonna feature that one over on one oh seven
m Us the Moose with Jason and Tom Kendra on
the call, and a tough one for Zealand West.
Speaker 2 (02:58:24):
They'll take on Detroit Martin Luther King.
Speaker 3 (02:58:26):
Yeah, bartl Luther King is really You talked about how
Hudsonville Byron Center playing their best in this time, yere,
I would think you would say the same thing about King.
They've just kind of walked through the playoffs to this point.
But I'll tell you this Zealand West team is really good.
I don't think many people gave him a chance to
beat de Witt last week, and all they did was
hold the Panthers to about a third what they have forage,
hold them down to just twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:58:44):
I'm telling you that the Zealand West defense is fast,
it's good. It'll be tested tomorrow and again that'll be
on one oh seven m us the Moose tomorrow afternoon
or one oh seven point nine FM on your radio dial.
Speaker 2 (02:58:55):
Well, that's gonna do it for us for night number one.
Speaker 1 (02:58:58):
