Oak Ridge. You know Carrie Harger, he was a lineman,
played line at oak Ridge, played at Hope College. And
they're they're big and strong, and they like to just
run the ball between the tackles. Aaron James was a
quarterback at Muskegan High School and they like to throw
it around. So it's very much contrasting styles coming into

So Babbitt will be in the shotgun. He's got Corey
McCain in the backfield with him, Emilio vill Real in motion,
and we have a whistle and we're gonna get another

Carter Van Dam left guard, Justin Sweitzer starting at center,

in the pocket wants to go deep and just overthrows

Yeah, he actually had a step on more and he
had time to throw it, and he obviously throws a
very nice ball. What was that It was about a
thirty five yard pass just over the just let him
a little too much. But as a result of that,
that brings up second and long.

You're gonna get a lot of man coverage because Oakridge,
no doubt's going to be trying to stop that run.
This time a short pass, Babbitt gets it out to right,
he's hauled down by Alec Moore after an eight yard

to try to stay on the field.

Yes, this would be a third and long situation. If
they're able to convert, that would really be a confidence
boost for him. If they got a punt right back
to Oakridge which took twenty seconds to score, they could
be in trouble.

The receivers for Orchard View tomorrow Wright and Emilio villar Real,
along with Chris Theeely and Kamari Reese in the spread formation,
Corey McCain is the running back, and of course Peyton
Babbitt is to quarterback. Third down and seven on their

fourth three, and they give us the McCain right up
the middle and he has hit and dropped. Looked like

So far Oakridge dominating the line of scrimmage, no question
about that. The other starters up front for Oakridge or
Gabe Sturgeon at one guard and Max Hannold at the

Yeah, Nate Dana checked, the long time offensive coordinator he
stepped aside after last year. David Huck, a former star
player for Oakridge, has moved up from the JV ranks
and now calling the plays. Yeah, you're right, a little

It looks like it might be coming back. It's like
it could be against oak Ridge. But what a nice combination.
Oak Ridge has the speed guy Bryson Stevenson six two
one ninety and then the power guy Bryce Bisson just
five seven point eight, a real good kind combination in
the backfield for Oakridge.

So it is a holding call on oak Ridge, which
will back them up and they'll replay first down. It'll
be first and goal now and a chance here for
the OV defense. Cardinals certainly need them to come up

Oakridge is running these off tackle plays Jay and just
enormous holes up front. I mean there was nobody within
five yards when he approached the line of scrimmage on
that run. Ov has got to do a better job
at the point of attack or it's going to be

Yes we have. And again, you know, everyone talks about
how OV has the brand new system in which is
true with Aaron James coming over from Mona Shres. But yeah,
Oakridge new offensive coordinator and David Hawk and a new system,
and they've made a few mistakes here down in the
red zone right now. That's the only thing stopping Oakridge
is themselves.

the action. They have to find a way to possess

You saw on that play, Jason. The athletic ability of
Peyton Babbitt, I mean, there was a lot of Oakridge
defenders there. He made a couple guys mess looked like

was able to get positive yardage there again. Babbitt good
looking junior six' one. He can run, he can throw.
Let's see if he can get into the end zone here.

I thought maybe he had a chance to run it
in there. Jay, there was some room, but he tried
to force a pass. I said in the game one
of the keys to the game coming in was the
decision making of Babbitt, I think, and that might have
been a bad decision. I think he should have tried
to run that one in. Instead, it's intercepted and Ov

Oakridge has the ball back.

Well, my first key to victory tonight was special teams
and Oakridge had a big kick return. They turned it
into seven eight. Ov had a big kick return. They
don't get any points out of it. If you're into
silver linings, this is the first time Oakridge will have
to start with the football on their own side of
the field if you're the Cardinal defense. First in ten
eagles on their own twenty yard line. Houston in the
pistol and look like they were trying to run a counter.

But Houston's just gonna keep it here and does a
good job to get back to the line of scrimmage.
In fact, they'll gain six yards. Look like a busted
play there. Tom Demari Wright able to make the tackle
for ov but Houston turned nothing into something.

Yeah, it sure was a busted play there. Someone went
in the wrong direction. But even then, I mean, that's
how dominant oak Ridge's offense has been so far. Even
on a completely busted play, Zach Houston is still able
to scramble and make six yards out of it.

Getting worried that Coopersville is leading out Seagos seven to
nothing at the end of the first core of the
Broncos celebrating one hundred years of football all season long
and going big with it tonight. Well, coming back all

Yeah. I just can't get over Jay how much bigger
Bryson Stevenson is than he was a year ago six
two one ninety. He looks like a man out there
this year. He's been the workhorse so far. I expected
a little bit more out of Bryce Bisson, the big
fullback type, but so far Stevenson has been outstanding.

I'm super impressed with this Okrage offensive line. I know
they were against really good teams, bigger schools in the scrimmage,
but they struggled. They are dominating the football night and
is wy Okrich is in command of this game. One

the left side out to about the forty three yard line.

Yeah. Again, they're running the the basic type stuff of
their offense. They haven't tried to do anything fancy at all,
but there you don't need to, you know, when you're
getting that kind of push on the offensive line. They're
just able to keep it simple and so far, so good.
I'm looking here at the OV sidelines. One of their
big guys, that's Justin Sweitzer. He's one of their senior
leaders up front. He's laying down there working on him,

so hopefully he's able to get back in the game
for OV.

So second and five on the forty four Houston play
action wants to throw, rolling to his right and looking
for Braden Daniels, but the pass falls incomplete. That's Braden Peterson.

Yeah, a well designed play. He had Peterson open there
across the middle, but he just threw that pass a
little bit too low. I mean, it could have been caught,
but he needs to get that pass up higher where
Peterson could have caught that and kept running with it.

You're dominating the line of scrimmage if you're Oakridge and
they decide to go to the air, But you want
to be balanced, right, You're gonna want to throw the football,
so they do it there, But now they're forced with

Yeah, absolutely, but again it was he had him. He
just needs to execute that pass.

is gonna go to Zach Cribbens, who's checked in the
game of the backfield, but he has stopped. Nice play

goal line and they have threw through an interception. Now
I'm sure Oakridge is gonna go for it here at

of excitement around the program and certainly a long way

At this point, I don't expect them to put it
in the air here at all. They're really dominating between
Bryce and Stevenson and Bryce Bisson and then with the
big guys up front, OV needs to do something to
try to slow down this oak machine.

Well, junior Brett Kroll there right tackle, started last year
as a sophomore. They got Gabe Sturgeon, a current sophomore
playing right guard, but Max handled up there Dylan Cunningham
and the give on second down is to Zach Cribins
and he's going nowhere, hit and dropped at the line
of scrimmage. Connor Devrees from his defensive tackle spot able
to drop him. It'll bring up third down and five.

Yeah, that's what they need to do is get that
penetration that Davries got there and get these these running
backs before they get going. And uh because for a
while there they were picking up you know, three four

that could, you know, potentially challenge Whitehall here in the
WMC Lakes Division.

luxury to do this if you're carry Harker because you

Both teams have eight guys going both ways, so you
worry about guys getting tired on a hot night early
in the season, and he's been able to rotate some
guys that are playing both ways and kind of give
some guys some break. We've seen Stevenson get out. Now
we see Bisson get out. He's starting get outside linebacker

as well as full back. So that's working well. I
think for the Eagles.

Oh, I agree, And that's just part of being a
veteran coach. I mean, it's just always a very well
coached team at Oakridge. They know how to use their
personnel to their advantage. We talked a little bit in
the pregame show, but coming into the season, Oakridge was
rocked a little bit. You know, they two of their
best players they thought were coming back, Evan Miller, the quarterback,

Michael Wamba, two way starter, great athlete. They decided they're
going to focus on baseball. But you know what does
Oakridge do? No panic? They figured out Logan Hutts. Houston
hasn't had to do much tonight, but he's done. He's
done a nice job, the junior quarterback six ' four,
basically just distributing the ball. But they they've turned to

their other weapons. And you know, I look at this team.
Obviously great line play, but that depth in the backfield.
Better skilled kids than I thought they were going to have,
So very impressed so far with Oakridge.

been impressed with the athletic ability of Oakridge really neutralizing

Aldretti kicks it off and Damori Wright takes it at
his own five yard line. He breaks the tackle at
the eighteen, gets across the twenty to the twenty four
yard line. So ov will start first in ten there
with a minute and forty seven seconds to go before
the half. And if you're Aaron James and the Cardinals,
you've got to try to get something going, something positive
here to take into the locker room. Even if it's
not points, first down, big play, they need something go

their way.

Yeah, and you know this offense is a it's not
really a ball control type offense. It's a big play
type offense. And so they haven't. When the big plays
aren't happening, you end up having a lot of three
and outs, which is what's happened so far. Right here,
they need to first of all, keep the ball away
and if they're fortunate able to break a player or something,
maybe they could get on the scoreboard.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
So first and ten, Babbitt sends three receivers to the
wide side left. He's gonna look to the right and
find Daniel Cooper complete on a short pass and Cooper
able to drag a tackler all the way across the
thirty five out to the thirty seven. That'll be twelve

and a nice job by Ov.

And I like this tempo. I realize it's because you
don't have any timeouts and you're late in the quarter,
and I'm sure Oakridge is in a certain defense due
to this, but this quicker tempo is worv.

Yeah, and it seems to just sparked them, and like
you said that, you can see the pep in their
step a little bit. But think about this here. Granted
it's twenty eight to nothing, but if Ov's able to
come in and score here, remember they received the kickoff
in the second half, so you know you could go
into the half if it's twenty eight seven, say hey,
we just scored right there and we're getting the ball.
So this is huge right here for Richard View.

second half. What are some keys here? In the second half,
especially if the cards were down big.

Well, orchard View first and foremost, when you get a chance,
take it. I mean, they've had two chances to score.
I mean, it's bad enough when you can't stop the
other team, but then when you're also doing them a
favor by not punching the ball in. They were down
at the two yard line through an interception, and then
right at the end of the half there they ran
all the way to the goal line, fumbled at the

(01:09:26):
goal line and no score there either. So I mean
the first key for Orchard View again, when they get
a chance, they have to punch it in. And then
then when you look at oak Ridge in terms of
the keys, the only thing that stopped them in the
first half was themselves, whether it was fumbles or penalties.
So I'm sure Carrie Harger just says, hey, let's just
do our thing. Hold on to the ball and you know,

(01:09:49):
stay away from the penalties, and you know, we'll just
run this game out.

Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Six possessions in the first half for the Eagles, four touchdowns.
The last position was one play where they took a
kne of the half and then the fumble was on
the ov ten yard line, so pretty efficient for the
Eagles minus that one fumble, and they're gonna kick off

you know, Montague. They're having their problems today tonight at
Forest Chills Eastern, but they should be much improved. That'll

first year, you know, I got to go back to
Matt Kozak in his first year at Mona Shores one
in eight. So Rome wasn't built in a day and

It's only been two quarters, so still time here to
turn things around tonight if your Orchard View, but it's
gonna have to start with a good possession here as
they get the football. Emilio Villarrial is back deep to
return this kick. Eduardo Aldretti is gonna kick it deep

for the Eagles. He's already had a couple of touchbacks tonight,
showing a very strong leg. The one he didn't get
a touchback was the one that OV was able to
return to the Oakridge twenty six yard line. This will
not be a touchback. Billar Rial, though went to a
Niba couldn't handle it. Now he picks it up his
own ten yard line and he's gonna be dropped by
Guerrero McGrady at about the fifteen. So OV will start

eighty five yards away from their first points of the night.

Yeah, another, just like the first half got off to
a rough start, a little shaky beginning there here. But
you know, even though Orchard View didn't score on that
last possession, they we saw glimmers of what their offense
could be. Let's see if it continues here on this
first possession here of the second half, if they were
able to score and keep that positive. Let him going.

Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
So first and ten from the fifteen yard line. We
saw Brett Kroll leave the game late in the second
quarter with an injury. Number fifty four, Gage Sturgeon, who
starts at guard now taking over for him on the
defensive line. Babbitt on the option keeps it gets about
to Bryson Stevenson crashing down to make the play for
the Eagles. It'd be second and eight.

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Yeah, nice job, good decision there by Peyton Babbitt. He
saw some daylight there and he was able to squirt through.
But all of those holes are closing quickly. This Elkridge
defense very athletic under the direction of Tim Parker, well coached.

in the shotgun. We haven't seen much of McCain tonight.
Play action to McCain and a quick flip out in
the flat to villar Real. He's over the twenty, close

quick passes.

You know, I can't tell you what a great play
that was by Bryson Stevenson out in the flat, because
against an inferior opponent, that's the kind of play. You
break that tackle, that could be a seventy yard run.
But Oakridge is just not letting them turn those short
completions into big games.

Bryce the Stephens is playing that hybrid safety linebacker role
for the Eagles and doing an outstanding job. Babbitt on
the slamp for Cooper pass incomplete, Alec Moore supplying the defense.
It's gonna be fourth down for OV. They're on their
own twenty two yard line and it looks like they
are gonna punt.

Wow, And that's exactly what they didn't want to have happen.
They needed to haul in that ball and move the
move the sticks because now they're gonna give the ball
right back to Oakridge. I didn't mention. I wanted to
mention who's helping out. Aaron James, his brother Holsey James
is one of the assistants for OV along with Billy Shanks,
a veteran line coach is over helping him out. And

Justin Duson is the other varsity coach over at OV

So Curtis Scott into punt, Aleck Moore going back to
the Eagles his own forty three yard line. Good pass
from center and not a great kick. It'll go out

they market. But Oakridge is going to start for the

the field. They're gonna say it went out of bounds.

have the one divisional game here on opening night between

where belongs, rivalries going week one and week nine if

While three of their four captains are juniors. When you

potential here. Like as you've talked about, Babbitt has certainly
