Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oak Ridge. You know Carrie Harger, he was a lineman,
played line at oak Ridge, played at Hope College. And
they're they're big and strong, and they like to just
run the ball between the tackles. Aaron James was a
quarterback at Muskegan High School and they like to throw
it around. So it's very much contrasting styles coming into
the game.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
So Babbitt will be in the shotgun. He's got Corey
McCain in the backfield with him, Emilio vill Real in motion,
and we have a whistle and we're gonna get another
penalty here before this play gets started. It's gonna be
a legal procedure against the Cardinals that to back them
up and make it first in fifteen, take a look
at the starting lineups for Orchard View at left tackle,
(00:44):
Carter Van Dam left guard, Justin Sweitzer starting at center,
number seventy two, Gavin de Sorry, Gavin Dempsey's at right guard,
kind of Devrezes at center, and freshman Lawrence Spencer at
right tackle. So at first and fifteen play action, Babbitt
in the pocket wants to go deep and just overthrows
his receiver looking for freshman or sorry, sorry, sophomore Tomorrow Wright.
(01:06):
Alec Moore had the coverage for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, he actually had a step on more and he
had time to throw it, and he obviously throws a
very nice ball. What was that It was about a
thirty five yard pass just over the just let him
a little too much. But as a result of that,
that brings up second and long.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
You're gonna get a lot of man coverage because Oakridge,
no doubt's going to be trying to stop that run.
This time a short pass, Babbitt gets it out to right,
he's hauled down by Alec Moore after an eight yard
game out to the twenty three and that'll make a
third and seven. Big play here for ov They need
to try to stay on the field.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yes, this would be a third and long situation. If
they're able to convert, that would really be a confidence
boost for him. If they got a punt right back
to Oakridge which took twenty seconds to score, they could
be in trouble.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
The receivers for Orchard View tomorrow Wright and Emilio villar Real,
along with Chris Theeely and Kamari Reese in the spread formation,
Corey McCain is the running back, and of course Peyton
Babbitt is to quarterback. Third down and seven on their
own twenty three. Oakridge stays in an even front defensive
fourth three, and they give us the McCain right up
the middle and he has hit and dropped. Looked like
(02:12):
sixty seven. Max handled was the first one in there,
and it's gonna be fourth down for ov.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, he handled was in there. But also the junior linebacker,
Jordan Guerro McGrady, he a huge hit in the hole.
If he didn't hit him, I think there was some
room there. But a big play by Guero McGrady, the
junior linebacker. And now Olbi's gonna have to punt it away.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Curtis Scott will come in to punt it away for
the Cardinals back deep to receive at his own forty
six yard line. Is senior Alec Moore. Ten minutes, seven
seconds to play in the opening quarter, Oakridge eight, Orchard View. Nothing.
We've got another whistle and penalty flag before the snap,
and another procedure penalty coming up against the Cardinals. This
(02:57):
will back him up another five and now they'll kick
on fourth and twelve at their own eighteen yard line.
Great night for football time. You know, Week one last
year was marred by humidity, heat, and then thunderstorms that
pushed a lot of games to a second night. But
tonight temperatures in the upper seventies, not too much humidity,
partly cloudy Sky's a great night.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Is great and it's dead calm too, so it's a
great night to throw the football. The weather is right
for OV, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Quarterback Peyton Babbitt's the long snapper, Curtis Scott now stands
at his own six yard line to kick it away,
gets his foot into it. It's a wobbly kick to
the near sideline. It's gonna go out of bounds, and
Orokridge is gonna get really good field position. Looking Toad
on their eight to nothing lead, We're gonna step aside
with a quick break. This is the LMCU Lake Shore
(03:44):
Game of the Week on one oh seven m us
the Moose. We're back on the MCU Lake Shore Game
of the Week on one seven MUS the Moose. Oakridge
leading eight nothing on first and ten at the OV
(04:04):
thirty five. After the punt, Bryce Bisson ran two yards
and on second and eight Houston throws the out complete
to Alec Moore, but he has wrapped up and dropped
at about the twenty seven yard line, about two yard
shy of a first down. The ball did come out
with the officials say he was down. It's gonna be
third and short for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Well, Logan Houston, they're completing his first pass. They got
some height on this oak Ridge team. Jason, he's six four,
one fifty five junior. But I'm looking at the height
they have up front. The two tackles for Oakridge Evan
how about Evan jos six seven two eighty six and
Brett Kroll six six three to ozho one. These are
some big boys up front for Oakridge.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Nice play on first down by sophomore linebacker Corey McCain
for Orchard View on the first down play, but on
third and two, the handoff goes to Bryson Stevenson, he's
got a first down in more he's all the way
down to the twenty yard line, seven yard game and
Oakridge moves to Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
So far Oakridge dominating the line of scrimmage, no question
about that. The other starters up front for Oakridge or
Gabe Sturgeon at one guard and Max Hannold at the
other guard. Dylan Cunningham is the center. Those five are
having their way right now with.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Ov Bryce Bisson behind Houston in the pistol and the
give This time, we'll go to Jordan Daily around the
left side. He's gonna go for about four down to
the sixteen yard line before number two Tomori Wright, another sophomore,
makes the tackle for Ov. You know, Tom different offense
for Oakridge, Reese to seeing them running the spreader wing
te They're in a little bit of a double wing
(05:35):
here pistol.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Yeah, Nate Dana checked, the long time offensive coordinator he
stepped aside after last year. David Huck, a former star
player for Oakridge, has moved up from the JV ranks
and now calling the plays. Yeah, you're right, a little
different look that a double wing type look. But so far,
so good.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
They give is to Bisson on second down and five
and he falls forward very close to a first down.
In fact, I think you'll have it at the ten
yard line, and all wait to get the official call
from the men in stripes. Seven minutes forty seven seconds
to play in the opening quarter, Oakridge leading eight to
nothing and knocking on the door again first and goal
(06:14):
for the Eagles on the OV ten yard line. Bisson
once again behind Houston in the pistol. Daily on the
wing right, fake the give to Bisson. Now give it
to Bryson Stevenson around the right side. He turns the corner,
hit at the two, dives no signal from the official.
He is very close. They're gonna rule him out just
(06:35):
inside the one yard line, and we've got a penalty
flag down as well. If it stands, it's a nine
yard gain for Bryson Stevenson and to be second and
goal from inside the one.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
It looks like it might be coming back. It's like
it could be against oak Ridge. But what a nice combination.
Oak Ridge has the speed guy Bryson Stevenson six two
one ninety and then the power guy Bryce Bisson just
five seven point eight, a real good kind combination in
the backfield for Oakridge.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
So it is a holding call on oak Ridge, which
will back them up and they'll replay first down. It'll
be first and goal now and a chance here for
the OV defense. Cardinals certainly need them to come up
with the play here. Already eight nothing Oakridge. Jordan Daily
returned the opening kickoff seventy five yards to the fifteen
yard line and Bryson Stevenson scored on the first play
(07:25):
from scrimmage and then scored on a two point conversion
to give the Eagles an eight to nothing leads. So
first end goal ball placed at the fourteen yard line
after a spot foul and to give this time is
a Jordan Daily, big hole in the left side. He's
inside the five and down to about the three yard
line before Demari Wright made the tackle. But it's going
to be second goal for Oakridge now in the three
(07:46):
yard line.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Oakridge is running these off tackle plays Jay and just
enormous holes up front. I mean there was nobody within
five yards when he approached the line of scrimmage on
that run. Ov has got to do a better job
at the point of attack or it's going to be
a long night.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Six minutes forty three seconds to play, opening quarter, Oakridge
leading eight nothing. They have it second and goal on
the three diston behind Houston and the pistol. We have
another whistle and an illegal procedure call against Oakridge, going
to back them up five yards and put it into
the yard line. You know, we see this a lot
time week one. It's new for everybody. A lot of penalties.
We've seen that so far tonight.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Yes we have. And again, you know, everyone talks about
how OV has the brand new system in which is
true with Aaron James coming over from Mona Shres. But yeah,
Oakridge new offensive coordinator and David Hawk and a new system,
and they've made a few mistakes here down in the
red zone right now. That's the only thing stopping Oakridge
is themselves.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
So ball placed at the eight yard line after the
mark off of the penalty, second down and goal for
the Eagles, and they give is to Jordan Daily over
the left side. Make the man miss, can't make a
second man miss, but he gets four. He's inside the
five and down to the four yard line. It'll be
third down, end goal. Look like Corey McCain able to
make the stop for the Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Yeah, brings up, brings up a big play here. Obviously
early in this game. I'm assuming it's four down territory
here for oak Ridge the way they've been moving the ball.
But what do we have a third and goal from
the three. OV would love to get a stop here
and give themselves some life.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
We've certainly seen. Eduardo Aldretti, the junior kicker exchange shooting
from Mexico, can certainly kick it, but coach Harger wants
to punch it in and then gives the Stevenson over
the right hand side. He dives for the goal line
and he is in. Bryson Stevenson with the four yard
touchdown run and the Eagles add to their lead. With
five minutes and forty five seconds to play in the
(09:42):
opening quarter. It's fourteen to nothing. Visitors extra point pending
in Stevenson. The senior has two scores already.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah, he's been very impressive. He's got great size. Bryson
Stevenson has got speed, but he's also six two one
ninety so he is a load. And uh, you know
he didn't even play in the scrimmage. You mentioned he
had a hip injury, but he looks very good so far.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Extra point from Aldretti is no good. It's wide right,
and our score remains Oakridge fourteen Orchard View nothing. Five
forty five to go, opening quarter. We'll step aside for
a quick break. This is the Lake Michigan Credit Union
Lake Shore Game of the Week on one oh seven
m us The Moose Oakridge fourteen orchard View nothing just
(10:29):
over the halfway point of the first quarter. Jason Hutton
along with Tom Kendra and Tom Not a great start
for Aaron James in his first game as a head
coach and the OV Cardinals. What do they have to
do to right the ship here as they get the
ball back, Well.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
They have to get a couple of first downs, because
that's they've had the you know, we've played what over
six minutes here, They've only had the ball for maybe
less than a minute. It's been an Oakridge just controlling
the action. They have to find a way to possess
the ball, keep it away from this Oakridge offense.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Aldretti kicks it deep, will be taken by Demurry right
at his own seven yard line, and he's got a
hole tomorrow right into the open field at midfield tomorrow
right to the thirty and dragged down by Alec Morise.
He gets to the Oakridge twenty six. And that's the
spark the Cardinals needed, Sophomore Tomori right with the big
kick return.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Yeah, how about a big return to spark the team
and get this OV crowd on their feet a little
bit here, I'm telling you there's a lot of athletes
on this ov team. They're young, and they're raw. They
haven't played this offense before, but they have a lot
of raw potential and tomorrow right just showed it there
with that burst up the middle on the Kickoff's take
(11:38):
a look.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
At some scores from around the area. Rockford leading cast
Tech seven and nothing, Reese Puffer and Reese Puffer forstil
Central no score. At the end of one quarterback skiing
Catholic Central fellon a nailbier to new Lowthrop thirty to
twenty nine, first and ten from the twenty five yard line.
Babbitt gonna fake the give and keep it on the option,
but nowhere to go. Presston six eats them up, drops
(11:59):
him for a two yard loss back to the twenty
seven yard line. All scoreboard updates provided by Rapid Radios

four o V at their own twenty seven yard line.
Under five minutes now to play opening quarter, Oakridge leading
fourteen to nothing. Babbitt in the shotgun, wants to pass,
rolls left and dumps it off complete to Thiey Deely's
(12:40):
got a first down in morning steps out of bounds
just inside the ten yard line, will be first in
gold Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Wow, beautiful play there, uh Peyton Babbitt rolling to his left.
Just a quick little dump off pass and you know,
that's what I've always liked about Matt Kozak and Aaron
James at Mona Shores. The passing game doesn't have to
be twenty yards down the field. That was about a
five yard pass but turned into a big play by
theey and ov Is knocking on the door.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Ends up being a twenty yard game first and goal
from the seven clock stop. Four to forty five to play,
opening quarter, Cardinals looking to get on the board for
the first time. McCain, the lone running back on the
hip of Babbitt and Babbitt fakes the give, keeps it
himself once again. Preston six, the outstanding junior makes the
tackle for a loss, and I have to tell you
(13:26):
time he stood out to me at the scrimmage. Oakridge's
defense was outstanding, and six, along with Zach Cribbins the safety, we're,
in my opinion, the two best players.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Okay, well, so far tonight he is a Preston six
is playing an outstanding game. Yeah he got it, got
him in the backfield there. Well, maybe right at the
line of scrimmage, but obviously this is critical here down
fourteen to nothing. Ov got the big kickoff return. They've
got a cash in here.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Yeah, we'll call it no gain. They'll spot it at
the seven. So second down, end goal, four minutes, seven
seconds to play, opening quarter, orchard U looking to cut
into the fourteen to nothing Oakridge League trips to the
right for Babbitt, who's got McCain on his right hip.
Babbitt fakes the give, gonna keep it himself. Stevenson trips
him up as he dives inside the five to about
(14:12):
the three yard line. So big play here, third and
goal now on the three.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
You saw on that play, Jason. The athletic ability of
Peyton Babbitt, I mean, there was a lot of Oakridge
defenders there. He made a couple guys mess looked like
it was gonna be like no gain almost, but he
was able to get positive yardage there again. Babbitt good
looking junior six' one. He can run, he can throw.
Let's see if he can get into the end zone here.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
So it'll be third down and goal on the three.
Babbitt's got McCain behind him now he moves him to
his left side. Billar Rial goes in motion. The play
action and the pass is incomplete. Babbitt was trying to find.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
I think that was Feeley.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
He was trying to find Daniel Cooper, who had checked
into the game at wide out, but he couldn't come
up with it. So it'll be fourth down and goal
from the three. And we saw Curtis Scott Orchard use
kicker nailing field goals and warm ups from beyond forty yards.
But you know you can only get so many chances
inside the five. I think I think Aaron James is
gonna go for it.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Here, especially down fourteen to nothing. I feel like they
need to get seven out of this.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Offense stays on the field, fourth and goal to three,
play action and the pass they run the same play
and it's incomplete Alex call late flag, but a flag
is thrown in for what we think will be past
interference and we'll set up a first in goal for OV.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
You know what, I think that was a great call.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Jay.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
There was a lot of contact there. When when they're
trying to run that slant play and you're holding them
that you've got to throw the flag. It was a
late flag, but I think it was a good call.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
So a new set of downs for orchard View after
the interference call. It'll only be in a one yard
penalty as the ball goes to the two yard line,
but first end goal from the two. Three minutes five
seconds to play, opening quarter. Curtis Scott has checked in
as an h back and we're gonna have a time
out here on the field. OV wants to talk it over,
we'll step aside. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game
(16:14):
of the Week on one oh seven m us The
Moves Kendra back at Cardinals Stadium, Oakridge, leading orchard View
fourteen to nothing in the Lake Michigan Credit Union Lake
Shore Game of the Week to kick off the twenty
twenty four season. So the penalty on the Okreage defense
was not a first down. It is fourth down in
(16:35):
goal for Oakridge. Now with the ball on the two
yard line, Babbitt has McCain in the backfield and he's
got Billy Real in motion. He fakes the pitch to
Billy Real. He throws on the rollout and the pass
is going to be intercepted by Alec Moore in the
end zone and the Oakreage defense makes a huge play.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Wow, that was a Babbitt rolling out to his left.
I thought maybe he had a chance to run it
in there. Jay, there was some room, but he tried
to force a pass. I said in the game one
of the keys to the game coming in was the
decision making of Babbitt, I think, and that might have
been a bad decision. I think he should have tried
to run that one in. Instead, it's intercepted and Ov
(17:15):
after that great kickoff return. They squander the opportunity and
Oakridge has the ball back.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Well, my first key to victory tonight was special teams
and Oakridge had a big kick return. They turned it
into seven eight. Ov had a big kick return. They
don't get any points out of it. If you're into
silver linings, this is the first time Oakridge will have
to start with the football on their own side of
the field if you're the Cardinal defense. First in ten
eagles on their own twenty yard line. Houston in the
pistol and look like they were trying to run a counter.
(17:42):
But Houston's just gonna keep it here and does a
good job to get back to the line of scrimmage.
In fact, they'll gain six yards. Look like a busted
play there. Tom Demari Wright able to make the tackle
for ov but Houston turned nothing into something.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Yeah, it sure was a busted play there. Someone went
in the wrong direction. But even then, I mean, that's
how dominant oak Ridge's offense has been so far. Even
on a completely busted play, Zach Houston is still able
to scramble and make six yards out of it.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Getting worried that Coopersville is leading out Seagos seven to
nothing at the end of the first core of the
Broncos celebrating one hundred years of football all season long
and going big with it tonight. Well, coming back all
former players out to the quick start. Second down and
four for Oakridge, and they gave us to Stevenson around
the right side. He's got a first down in more,
Barrel's his way across the thirty five out to the
thirty nine yard line before Van Matthews brings him down.
(18:32):
But the Eagles will move the chains.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Yeah. I just can't get over Jay how much bigger
Bryson Stevenson is than he was a year ago six
two one ninety. He looks like a man out there
this year. He's been the workhorse so far. I expected
a little bit more out of Bryce Bisson, the big
fullback type, but so far Stevenson has been outstanding.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
I'm super impressed with this Okrage offensive line. I know
they were against really good teams, bigger schools in the scrimmage,
but they struggled. They are dominating the football night and
is wy Okrich is in command of this game. One
fifty to play opening quarter on first and ten to
give is going to be to Jaden daily Daily around
the left side out to about the forty three yard line.
Give them four on first down.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Yeah. Again, they're running the the basic type stuff of
their offense. They haven't tried to do anything fancy at all,
but there you don't need to, you know, when you're
getting that kind of push on the offensive line. They're
just able to keep it simple and so far, so good.
I'm looking here at the OV sidelines. One of their
big guys, that's Justin Sweitzer. He's one of their senior
leaders up front. He's laying down there working on him,
(19:37):
so hopefully he's able to get back in the game
for OV.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Looks like they'll spot it at the forty four yard line,
so give Daily five yards on that first down play.
So second and five on the forty four Houston play
action wants to throw, rolling to his right and looking
for Braden Daniels, but the pass falls incomplete. That's Braden Peterson.
Excuse me, it'll be third down for Oakridge.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Yeah, a well designed play. He had Peterson open there
across the middle, but he just threw that pass a
little bit too low. I mean, it could have been caught,
but he needs to get that pass up higher where
Peterson could have caught that and kept running with it.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
So third down and five. Interesting with the play selection.
You're dominating the line of scrimmage if you're Oakridge and
they decide to go to the air, But you want
to be balanced, right, You're gonna want to throw the football,
so they do it there, But now they're forced with
third and five.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Yeah, absolutely, but again it was he had him. He
just needs to execute that pass.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Third and five and the forty four and the give
is gonna go to Zach Cribbens, who's checked in the
game of the backfield, but he has stopped. Nice play
that time by number fifty Thomas Klein. It'll be fourth
down for Oakridge on their own forty seven yard line.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Well, here we go, Jay, another huge fourth down play.
OV just had a fourth down play right at the
goal line and they have threw through an interception. Now
I'm sure Oakridge is gonna go for it here at
the forty seven yard line in their own forty seven
yard line. But another huge fourth down play. Let's see
if OV can come up with their first big defensive
(21:07):
play of this game.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
We will call it fourth down in two. There is
twenty one seconds to play in the opening quarter. Oakridge
leads the game fourteen to nothing. They have it fourth
and two on their own forty seven yard line. Cribbins
goes in motion and stops. Now they give is to
Disson right up the middle. He's got a first down
and more into OV territory. Breaks the tackle inside the
forty five and down to the forty three yard line.
(21:32):
Look like number fifteen Kobe Span made the tackle, but
Oakridge moves the chains and they'll have it first and
ten into ov territory. When the play resumes in the
second quarter. After won our score Oakridge fourteen orchard View nothing,
we'll step aside for a quick timeout. This is the
LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on one oh
seven m us the Moose stay tuned for the preferred
(22:00):
automotive halftime show. Tom and Ile recap the scoring. We'll
have some stats, and we'll hear from John Ardur who's
at our Lake Shore spotlight game tonight. Big rivalry battle
for the Ores, Spring Lake and Fruitport. But we got
twelve minutes to go before we get there. Oakridge leading
this one, fourteen to nothing after one quarter on the
(22:22):
road at rival orchard View, looking to make a thirteen
straight wins against their rival. The last time the Cardinals
won this matchup was two thousand and six. Aaron James
coming in his first year's head coach, got a lot
of excitement around the program and certainly a long way
to go here, Tom, but oakredge was a really good
first quarter.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Yeah, Oakridge looking really good so far. I'm looking on
this rapid radio scoreboard update here that game spring Lake
twenty Fruitport nothing having their way there. And then how
about Don Fellows at Kennela Hills in the second quarter
Kenela Hills ten Forest Hills, Northern nothing. So it's a
little bit of a surprise in that one. North Muskegan
(23:02):
up seven to nothing over Plama Westphalia. And so yeah,
I'm just looking through some other games here. Looked like
a heartbreaker though from Muskegan. Catholic Central leading that game
late twenty nine to twenty two, but then apparently new
Low through scores gets the two point conversion thirty twenty
nine loss for MCC on the road.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Yeah, the Hornets with a para two point conversion of
the second half and that being the difference. I'm first down.
Oakridge gives it to Jayden Dally around the left side
and he's gonna get inside the forty to about the
thirty seven yard line, give him six. Tyler Sandefer makes
the tackle for the Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Yeah, you mentioned that one pass that Oakridge through fell incomplete.
At this point, I don't expect them to put it
in the air here at all. They're really dominating between
Bryce and Stevenson and Bryce Bisson and then with the
big guys up front, OV needs to do something to
try to slow down this oak machine.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Well, junior Brett Kroll there right tackle, started last year
as a sophomore. They got Gabe Sturgeon, a current sophomore
playing right guard, but Max handled up there Dylan Cunningham
and the give on second down is to Zach Cribins
and he's going nowhere, hit and dropped at the line
of scrimmage. Connor Devrees from his defensive tackle spot able
to drop him. It'll bring up third down and five.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Yeah, that's what they need to do is get that
penetration that Davries got there and get these these running
backs before they get going. And uh because for a
while there they were picking up you know, three four
yards before they were even being hit. So a good
job that time by Connor Dvrees, the big junior.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Loss of a yard on that play. So it'll bring
up third down and five for Oakridge. Ball spot at
the OV thirty eight and the give is gonna go
to Stevenson over the right side. He's got a first down,
he's inside the thirty breaks to tackle at the twenty five.
Bryson Stevenson is gone thirty eight yards to the end
zone and Oakridge adds on to its lead. Now up
three scores with ten thirty three to play before the half.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Yeah again that time just just a base play in
that offense, the off tackle run and uh running around
that right side of the line and a nice job.
It looked like ov had chances to tackle him, some
poor tackling, and once he got in the open he
was gone thirty eight yards. Jay, that's three touchdowns already
for Bryson Stevenson fifteen yards, four yards and that one
(25:24):
a thirty eight yarder.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
You know, the big question for oakradge of many, was
how are you gonna replace Trevor Jones who was so
good for four years for the Eagles and Bryson Stevenson
doing it so far here Aldretti able to drill the
extra point, making the score Okrage twenty one orchard View
and nothing ten thirty three to play second quarter, will
step aside. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of
the Week. I won oh seven mus the Moose. We're
(25:54):
back in the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week.
I won O seven mus the Moose Jason Hutting along
with Tom Ks and it's been all Oakrage for the
first thirteen minutes and twenty seven seconds. Eagles on the
road leading rival orchard View twenty one to nothing, all
three touchdowns coming on the legs of senior Bryce and
Stevenson Aldretti kicks it deep and into the end zone.
(26:14):
That'll be a touchback. Orchard View will start first and
ten on their own twenty and searching for answers.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Yeah, so OV had that great opportunity after the big
kickoff return, they're down their fourth and goal from the
two yard line, unable to get it in. You know,
you look back. Could that have changed the momentum of
this game? Very much so? But now they're really in
a hole here, down three scores and obviously need to
need to break through the and get on the scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
A couple of rapid radios scoreboard updates. Rockford has taken
a seventeen nothing lead on cast Tech after an interception
return for touchdown and over on in ninety six to
one the game with Brett Pakita and Buck Gino unit
Christian leading Whitehall eight to seven in the second quarter.
Excellent game there. First and ten OV from their own twenty.
They're gonna run option rights. Babbitt pitches to villar Real,
(27:01):
he'll be dropped at the line of scrimmage. Zach Cribbins
comes up to make the play from his safety spot.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Yeah, you talked about the defense of Oakridge. Tim Parker,
veteran defensive coordinator. You know what a challenge for him
coming into this game, having to get ready for a
team that he's never really seen before, not really sure
what the offense is gonna be. But he's got a
lot of talented kids. Zach Cribbins's definitely one of them.
Came up there and held him to basically no game.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Well, we saw that first play from scrimmage for OV
where they took a shot deep man coverage and we're
not able to hit it. If you're Oakridge and Tim Parker,
you're gonna do that. You're gonna stop the run, You're
gonna play the line of scrimmage and take your chances
one on one, and it's been working so far. Second
and ten from the twenty, Babbitt with McCain next to him,
He's gonna roll left and throw against his body. The
pass will be incomplete. He was looking for Fey Max
(27:51):
Hannold putting the pressure on. It's gonna be third down
and ten for Ov.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Yeah, very impressed so far with this Oakridge defense. You
like on that play there was really nobody, nobody opened downfield,
great coverage and so he just had to resort to
a little dump off pass. Unable to complete it, and
here we go again, Jay, Third and long and another
desperate situation.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
It feels like for Ov just looking for answers. If
you're in James. At this point, their best play has
been the kick return Al Dretti's kicked to him in
the endzone, the one he didn't got returned all the
way to the twenty six yard line. So third and ten,
Babbitt straight back to pass with time, throwing for Feeley,
(28:33):
complete but dropped immediately. Bryson Stevenson not just a touchdown maker,
making plays in defense as well. It's a two yard game.
He'll be fourth and long and Ov left to punt.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Yeah, just a great defensive play. How about Bryson Stevens
and he's got three touchdowns and what a coverage there,
big hit what look like it could have been, you know,
a decent game. It's just a two yard game. And
just like that, OB's got to give the ball right
back to Oakridge.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
So Curtis Scott will come into punt standing in his
own ten yard line.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
ALC.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Moore will go back to receive for the Eagles. Clock
stop now with nine minutes, two seconds to play in
the second quarter.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
It's like something against OV emotion or lining up off
sides maybe.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
So the market back five yards, spot the ball at
the seventeen yard line. It'll be fourth and thirteen. Scott
will back up five yards and now he'll stand at
his own five. Meanwhile, more weights at midfield. That's another
storyline of this game is field position. Oakridge has started
at the OV fifteen, the OV thirty five, their own twenty,
and now they're going to start somewhere probably least near midfield.
(29:40):
Good kick from Scott to the far sideline that bounces
at the fifteen. The little roll into Oakridge territory and
die at the forty three yard line. But a thirty
six yard putt with no return, and that's a positive
for OV. Oakridge will now start first and ten on
their own forty three yard line in here, a must
stop if your orchard view right.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Tom, Absolutely, they haven't been able to do it all night,
and so they have to start somewhere, and this would
be the place to do it. You know. We're talking
about that Oakridge tradition. And in terms of playoff appearances
in the Lake Shore area, Oakridge has been in the
playoffs thirty four times. That's tied for the most along
the Lake Shore with who do you think they're tied with?
(30:18):
Here in the Muskegan area, Miskegan now actually Miskegan Catholic
Central both thirty four playoff burst Oakridge four state titles
nineteen ninety actually three state titles nineteen ninety seven, two
thousand and five, and two thousand and eight.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Those, of course, all Jack Sugar's coach teams thirty two
years at the Helm of Oakridge from nineteen seventy nine
to twenty ten before his former player and assistant coach
Kerrie Harger took over. Two coaches the last forty six
seasons for Oakridge in football, pretty impressive first and ten
of their own forty four. Houston and the Pistoli's got
Bissing behind him and Oakridge is gonna call it time
(30:55):
out here as the play clock was running down. We're
gonna step aside. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game
of the week. On one oh seven m us the Moose,
Oakridge leading go to Review forty nine to play second quarter.
A couple more updates on the Rapid Radio's scoreboard update
Forstalls Eastern leading Montague twenty to nothing. Unity Christian has
(31:16):
scored again and extended its lead over Whitehall to fifteen
to seven, and Reese Puffer's kicked a field goal. The
Rockets lead for Still Central defending state champs three to nothing,
three thirty to play until the half. On first down,
the pitch is going to go to Zach Cribbins to
the short side right, and Cribbins has got a first down.
He's going to be into ov territory inside the forty five.
(31:37):
Looks like they'll spot it at the forty three. That'll
be a fourteen US thirteen yard game in a first down.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Again, just great blocking up front there. Zach Cribbins is
able to get ahead of steam going before anyone hit him.
First down run and the sticks keep moving. Oakridge keeps
possessing the football and uh, that's been the story of
this game so far.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
So Bryson Stevens is getting break right now, Cribbins is
in his spot, Jaden Daly and Bryce bisson elso in
the backfield. This time it'll be Daily running laugh Daily
inside the forty close to the twenty eight yard line.
Tyler Sandefer makes another tackle for the Cardinals that to
bring up second down and five.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Yeah, and again we mentioned how Oakridge has not had
to go fire into their playbook. They've just been able
to do the basic stuff because they're able to handle
ov upfront. And that time they ran to the right side,
Gage Sturgeon and the guard on that side, Brett Kroll
at the tackle spot. Another big gain on first down, six.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Yards, seven minutes, fifty three seconds to play until the
half second and five for Oakridge on the OV thirty
eight yard line. The pitch goes to Stevenson, who's back
in the game. He's got a first down. He's inside
the thirty, steps through a tackle and gets dragged down
at the twenty five yard line. But it's another twelve
or thirteen yards for Stevenson and Oakridge moves the chains.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
We talked about the contrast between these teams and Oakridge
is all about stability. Orchard View through the years, they've
had some outstanding years. There was a ten year stretch there, Jay,
between ninety five and two thousand and five, orchard View
was the best team on the lake shore and people say, oh,
obviously other than Muskegan or Muskegan Catholic. No, they were
the best team on the lake shore. But they've had
(33:18):
their ups and downs. Aaron James hoping to bring them
back in the right direction. A tough start so far.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
First and ten of the twenty five. They'll give it
to Stevenson running right again. He's inside the twenty and
close to the fifteen yard line, very close to another
first down. We'll see where they spot. It looks like
they're gonna give him nine and a half. Might be
second down in half a yard. But Stevenson getting big
chunks on the ground for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Yeah. Again. Over there, that's Evan Josa. He's a senior
six seven two eighty six and he's being recruited big time.
You know they can run that way, they run the
other way. I mentioned Brett Kroll even bigger and then
he's an it shorter six six, but he's three hundred
and one pounds, so second down in less.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Than a yard, you could do pretty much whatever you
want here. If you're Dave Huck and they're gonna give
it to Bisson, who's gonna run right tackle. He's got
a first down close to the ten yard line. Ball
is out, no whistle. Curtis Scott's got it and running
the other way for OV. Looks like the officials are
gonna say it was a fumble recovered by Orchard View
and that's a huge break for the Cardinals, who will
(34:22):
get it back.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Wow, that was exactly what the doctor ordered for OV.
You know, I was about to say they need something
like that to happen, and uh, yeah, Bryce Bisson, don't
I didn't see how. I didn't see the ball come out.
I don't know if someone punched that ball out. But uh,
all of a sudden, Orchard View has an opportunity. You know,
if they were able to get a score here ja
before the half, it's still a football game.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Well, huge play because Oakres was marching. They were gonna
be first and goal there on the ten. But the
ball is coughed up. Curtis Scott makes the recovery returns
it to the thirty yard line and OV will have
the ball six thirty seven to play second quarter, first
and ten on their own thirty. McCaine is in the
back behind Babbitt. Babbitt, the junior quarterback, looks a little confused.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
I've got missing a player out there.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
He's got his arms extended and now OV is gonna
have to take a time out. We'll take it with him.
This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the weekend
one o seven m us the Moose, do not forget

is going beyond the hospital walls. And on first and ten,
Peyton Babbitt wanted to throw, but he's flushed out and sacked.
(35:47):
Looks like Braden Peterson gonna get it. That's gonna be
a fifteen yard loss, all the way back to the
fifteen yard line. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Actually, actually Jay was Evan Josa who was out there
who got him. He is six seven, but he showed
some I thought Peyton Babbitt just thought he could outrun
this guy, and he Evan Joseph got that big met
out there on him and grabbed hold of him and
just threw him to the ground. And that's a huge loss.
It's not up on the scoreboard, but that's about a
(36:15):
sixteen yard loss. So it's second and twenty six.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Well, this is why college coaches like Evan Josh. You're
six seven, you're two eighty five, and you can move
like he can move. He's got him drilling and there
he deflects the pass. On second down. Joseah got his
hands up, deflected the Peyton babbit pass and it's gonna
be third in long for O V. Joseph making his
presence felt.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
Oh, no question about it. I mean he is, he's athletic.
I remember his his sister was a pitcher for the
Oakridge softball team. His dad, Mark Joseph, great guy and
a big supporter of Oakridge athletics. But yeah, it'll be
interesting to see where both him and Brett Kroll. You know,
Kroll's just a junior. He's six six ' three oh one.
(36:56):
It'll be interesting to see where both of those guys
end up.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
So we're down twenty five for OV from their own
fifteen yard line, and now we're gonna have a whistle
and a procedure penalty, so it's gonna be third down
and even longer, five minutes forty seconds to play before
the half.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Yeah, again, it's just it's tough. I mean, Aaron Jones,
Aaron James is a very confident guy. You know, he
thought they had a real good chance in this game.
But you know, it's tough to go from one system
to a whole different system in one year, and we're
seeing that play out here tonight, especially against it's a
tradition rich team like oak Ridge. But it doesn't get
(37:36):
easier Jay for for OV. They got to play Whitehall
next week and then they have Montague Manistee and Muskegan
Catholic Central.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
So on third down, the pass is going to be
complete to Cooper to the right side. He gets it
back over the twenty to about the twenty three, but
still some seventeen yards short of a first down and
it's gonna be fourth down and long and OV he's
gonna have to kick again.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Yeah, And at this point, you look at the situation
here Jay twenty one to nothing, Oakridge, with the lead
five and a half minutes to go before halftime. Ovi's
just got to be thinking right now, do not let
him score it again, because if they're able to keep
them out of the end zone twenty one nothing is bad,
but it's not insurmountable. They get this thing up to
twenty eight to nothing and this game could be pretty
(38:23):
much over.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
So Curtis Scott's back into punt. Alec Moore will go
back to receive it for the Eagles, single safety standing
in his own forty two yard line. Good pass from center,
and Scott gets off a nice kick up the middle
of the field. It'll land at the Oakridge forty three
and be touched there and the Eagles will go to
(38:45):
work with five minutes and twenty three seconds to play
before the half. Stay tuned to our postgame show, Tom's
gonna pick the Blue Water Cabinet Tree Player of the Game. Certainly,
Bryson Stevenson looked like an early favorite. Evan Jos's making
a run at it still a long way to go.
Bluewater Cabmetry and Design, the Lakeshore's trusted kitchen and bath provider,
(39:07):
is proud to be a supporter of high school football
First and ten Oakridge from their own forty three yard
line five minutes twenty three seconds to go in the
second quarter. Both teams probably viewing this as a pretty
important possession.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
I would think so, especially for Orchard View. I mean,
they obviously need to keep them out of the end zone.
Last time they forced a fumble. Let's see what happens here.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
I'm first down. The give is to Jayden Daily over
the left side. He's gonna get about seven to midfield.
And this is kind of a lot of what we've
seen tonight. Five six, seven, eight yards for Oakridge at
a time running the ball off tackle.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Yeah, and it's just the push of the offensive line.
I mean, you keep saying the same thing over and
over again. But these running backs, whether it be Jaden Daily,
Bryce and Stevenson, Zach Cribbins, Bryce Bisson, whoever it is,
they're running three or four yards before they're hit and
that's just not gonna get it done. But again, Oakridge
is just so big and strong up front. Very impressive
(40:03):
with them. They look like they could have a team
that could, you know, potentially challenge Whitehall here in the
WMC Lakes Division.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
So second down and two, ball spotted right at midfield.
Daily's in motion and they're gonna run the belly, place
Stevenson up the middle inside the forty five. Put the
ball on the ground. The ball is loose. No signal
from the officials yet. Bryce and Stevenson had a first
down and more they're gonna say Oakridge fell on it.
So the Eagles look like Stevenson got back on it.
(40:35):
It'll be first down in ten.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Wow. Almost another big break there for OV. That ball
came out, but this time after the fumble on the
last possession which OV recovered. This time Oakridge gets back
on it. Time ticking away here, getting close to four
minutes to go before halftime. Again, I got to reiterate
Jay for Orchard View. They have got to keep Oakridge
(40:57):
out of the end zone here down as bad enough
for as one too many.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Clock running with four minutes to play in the second quarter,
first in tent, Eagles on the Cardinals forty three yard
line and the give is gonna go right up the
middle to Guerrero McGrady, the backup to Bison, and he's
gonna go for thirteen yards down to the thirty yard line.
Jordan Guerrero McGrady, who's seen an inside linebacker, but for
the first time tonight in the backfield and he got
(41:24):
the ball and he got a first down.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
Wow, this is oak Ridge. They've got a lot of
guys who can run the football. You know, we were
talking about Trevor Jones last year. He was almost like
a one man show at times. But tonight oak Ridge,
they're showing off a lot of running backs. Well.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Another thing we're seeing and I think you have the
luxury to do this if you're carry Harker because you
have a three score lead. Is we talked off the air.
Both teams have eight guys going both ways, so you
worry about guys getting tired on a hot night early
in the season, and he's been able to rotate some
guys that are playing both ways and kind of give
some guys some break. We've seen Stevenson get out. Now
we see Bisson get out. He's starting get outside linebacker
(41:59):
as well as full back. So that's working well. I
think for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
Oh, I agree, And that's just part of being a
veteran coach. I mean, it's just always a very well
coached team at Oakridge. They know how to use their
personnel to their advantage. We talked a little bit in
the pregame show, but coming into the season, Oakridge was
rocked a little bit. You know, they two of their
best players they thought were coming back, Evan Miller, the quarterback,
(42:25):
Michael Wamba, two way starter, great athlete. They decided they're
going to focus on baseball. But you know what does
Oakridge do? No panic? They figured out Logan Hutts. Houston
hasn't had to do much tonight, but he's done. He's
done a nice job, the junior quarterback six ' four,
basically just distributing the ball. But they they've turned to
(42:46):
their other weapons. And you know, I look at this team.
Obviously great line play, but that depth in the backfield.
Better skilled kids than I thought they were going to have,
So very impressed so far with Oakridge.
Speaker 2 (42:59):
Not cunning fifth quarter kids. Okridge only has about twenty
five varsity players. Now they've got nine or ten up
from the JV team here tonight. They're dressing in the
mid thirties. There goes Gera McGrady right up the middle.
As play resumes on first and ten, he'll go for
six yards down to the twenty four yard line. Oakridge,
by the way, winning the junior varsity game last night.
So the Eagles start one to zero, but Guerra McGrady
(43:21):
was a second consecutive carry, and it'll be second and
four o'clock is running, three and a half to play
before the half.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
Of course, this is the third year of the of
the new Luck West Michigan Conference. The bigger schools up
in the Lakes Division, these are two of them, and
then the smaller schools in the WMC Rivers Division.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
AMP. We're gonna give it to Stevenson this time. The
Eagles give it to Stevenson around the right hand side.
He's got a first down, spins his way inside the
twenty and drags a tackler inside the ten down to
about the nine yard line. Fifteen more yards for Bryson
Stevenson and it'll be first in goal Oakridge on the
nine yard line with three twelve to play before the half.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Another good piece of run there by Stevenson on that
sweet play around the right side. He got turned in
and usually usually when you get turned in on that
sweet play, you know that means you're gonna be tackled quickly.
But he got another about ten yards after turning in.
And now here here's oak Ridge again, back in the
red zone, back inside the ten yard line.
Speaker 2 (44:19):
Do you think new offensive coordinator Dave Huck's going to
go right back to the well here with number two?
He's got the first three touchdowns?
Speaker 1 (44:25):
Yeah, can you make it three? Maybe he'll share the
wealth here, let's see what happened.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
Stevenson's on the left wing. It's Guerrero McGrady in the
backfield and Jayden Daly in motion. That gives Guarrea McGrady
right up the middle. He's inside the five and close
to the three yard line. Damari Wright made the tackle
for the Cardinals. It'll be second downing goal.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
Yeah, Guero McGrady, he's the guy who had the big
hit there early on in this game on a on
a key third down play, stopping the ov ball carrier.
But he's a he looks good at that, A quick
hitting play offensively as well.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Just a junior Orchard view out of time out, it's
Oakridge in no hurry here with the ball on the
three yard line and the clock running two minutes five
seconds to play before the half, they just now break
the huddle under two minutes to go as Houston is
in the pistol and the give is to Jaden Daily.
J Daly's gonna carry it into the end zone for
(45:19):
a three yard score over left tackle and Oakridge extends
to a four touchdown lead.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
Wow, Oakridge just having their way. You know, I'm wondering
here are these are these backs really this good? Or
is it just that offensive line is so dominant? I
think it's a little bit of both. That time, you know,
ov they thought they made a good hit on the guy,
which they did, but it was three yards down the
field and he was already in the end zone when
(45:45):
they hit him.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
Well, if you want me to answer the question, I
would say the offensive line has just been dominant for
Oakridge tonight, paving the way for this big ground attack.
Aldretti with the extra point up and good make it
Oakridge twenty eight orchard View nothing, minute fifty four to
go to the half. This is the Lake Shore LMCU
lake Shore Game of the Week. I won O seven
m us to move s overright back. We got a
(46:12):
rapid radio scoreboard update cast text on the board. Technicians
still trailing Rockford seventeen to seven. Nowego leading Kent City
thirteen to six. UNI Christian has extended its lead over
white Hall to twenty two to seven. For Sols Eastern
over Montague thirty four to nothing, and for Soil Central
(46:32):
has taken the lead on Reese Puffer now seven to three.
Coopersville leading out Sego at the half twenty one to nothing.
Here at Cardinals Stadium, it's all Oakridge Eagles leading rival
Orchard View twenty eight to nothing, one minute fifty four
seconds to play until the half. The Eagles getting set
to kick it deep in ov gonna get the ball back.
They've really struggled on offense tonight. But to me, I'm
(46:54):
crediting that Oakridge defense. I was high in them coming
into this game, and they've lived up to the billing.
Speaker 1 (46:58):
Oh they really have. I'm impressed. You know, we've talked
a lot about the offensive line of oak Ridge, and
rightfully so with what they're doing. But Oakridge is a
lot more athletic than I thought they were gonna be.
I mean that defensive secondary when orchard View has completed
a pass, I mean they've been hit right away. I've
been impressed with the athletic ability of Oakridge really neutralizing
(47:23):
what I thought was gonna be Ov's biggest advantage. And
that's the thing that the nature of this OV team.
I mean, they're gonna struggle at times, but they do
have the athletes.
Speaker 2 (47:33):
You know.
Speaker 1 (47:33):
I don't know if they're gonna come back in a
game like this one, but they do have the type
of team that can come back, maybe not against a
quality opponent like Oakridge.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
It looks like Oakridge is going to call a time
out here before the kickoff their second of the half.
Orchard View is out of timeouts one minute fifty four
seconds to play before the half. Bryson Stevenson had a
pair of first quarter touchdown runs as the Eagles led
at fourteen to nothing after twelve minutes. He added a
third touchdown run early in the second quarter to make
it twenty one to nothing, and then Jaden Daily, the
(48:07):
junior running back, has just scored from three yards out.
Extra point from Eduardo Aldretti has made it twenty eight
to nothing. Oakridge, who has dominated this ground game on
the ground.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
Yeah. I mentioned earlier j that WMC Lakes Division that
both of these teams are part of. These are the
only two Division five teams in the WMC Lakes. There's
three Division four teams Luddington, Fremont, and Whitehall. Whitehall is
actually Division five, opting up to play at Division four.
Oak Ridge and ov Or Division five, and then Montague
and Manistee are both Division six teams, so it's kind
(48:46):
of interesting. Then you go down in the Rivers Heart
and Mason County Central or Division six, Shelby, Ravana, North
Muskegan Division seven, and Haspiria and Holton Division eight. So
I think a really good move when they divide it
up this league. I think it's a much more Both
of the leagues are more competitive now.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
Aldretti kicks it off and Damori Wright takes it at
his own five yard line. He breaks the tackle at
the eighteen, gets across the twenty to the twenty four
yard line. So ov will start first in ten there
with a minute and forty seven seconds to go before
the half. And if you're Aaron James and the Cardinals,
you've got to try to get something going, something positive
here to take into the locker room. Even if it's
not points, first down, big play, they need something go
(49:24):
their way.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
Yeah, and you know this offense is a it's not
really a ball control type offense. It's a big play
type offense. And so they haven't. When the big plays
aren't happening, you end up having a lot of three
and outs, which is what's happened so far. Right here,
they need to first of all, keep the ball away
and if they're fortunate able to break a player or something,
maybe they could get on the scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
So first and ten, Babbitt sends three receivers to the
wide side left. He's gonna look to the right and
find Daniel Cooper complete on a short pass and Cooper
able to drag a tackler all the way across the
thirty five out to the thirty seven. That'll be twelve
yards first down for the five to eight junior receiver
and a nice job by Ov.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Boy. They haven't had many first downs. I think that
might be there, maybe their second first down of the
game for Ov. But a nice play there by Cooper.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
And they'll go quickly and right back to the same play.
Babbitt to Cooper and he's gonna go out of bounds.
It to forty four the official rule. He was tackled
in bounds, so the clock will continue to run. Orchard
View is out of timeouts, they'll have second down and
three on their own forty four yard line, clock running
at a minute and sixteen to play. The Cardinals will
go quickly to the line of scrimmage as number fifty three,
(50:35):
Conter Devrees is over the ball for OV. Babbitt and
the pistol with McCain now moving to his left right
split wide left Villa Reale in motion, play action on
the handuff to Villa Real. Babbitt gonna go deep looking
for Cooper again, and Jaden Daly had the coverage. They
were locked up down there no flag. It'll be third
(50:55):
down for OV. But the clock does stop and Babbitt
looks a little shaken up back then after he got
hit when he threw it.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
Yeah, he hung in there. There was pressure on him.
They were on him quickly. He didn't have enough time
to really as much as he wanted to allow Cooper
to get open him. Maybe a little bit more. But yeah,
hopefully he's okay. He's kind of shaking that throwing arm,
that right arm, We certainly hope Peyton Babbitt, the junior,
(51:22):
is okay because he's basically the heart and soul of
this OV offense.
Speaker 2 (51:26):
So third down and three, Babbitt in the shotgun with
McCain on his right. He's got time to throw drop
straight back, looking deep, looking for tomorrow. Right, it has
caught inside the twenty five and at the twenty yard line.
Great throw and catch from Peyton Babbitt to sophomore Demory
Wright and a huge play for OV with forty nine
seconds to go before the half.
Speaker 1 (51:46):
You are absolutely right. Jay Aleck Moore had great coverage
there on oak Ridge, but it was a well thrown
ball by Babbitt, but great concentration to come down with
that catch. And yeah, that's this offense. It's quick strike.
Can they get it in.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
Thirty seven yards to the nineteen? Now a quick pass
to villaryal and the right. He's inside the ten, inside
the five. We got a penalty flag as he gets
forced out of bounds at about the three, so we'll
check the marker. But OV could have first and goal
in the four depending on the penalty.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
Yeah, I think it was an illegal block. They are
out in the open.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Yeah, they call holding on OV, and so that's going
to back up the Cardinals with no timeouts and forty
one seconds to play before the half.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
Yeah, but we're seeing at least we're seeing some signs
of life here Jay from this OV attack. I mean,
we saw this, you know, I saw it when I
went out on Monday to see their practice. They have
athletes out there. They passed the eye test. But again,
it's just a very experienced team in oak Ridge, sort
of like a very polished team against a upstart team
(52:48):
here for OV. But this would be huge for the
Cardinals if they were able to get a score here
before half.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
So they moved back to the twenty yard line. It'll
be first down and twenty and the quick past villar Reale,
he's inside the ten and tripped up as he gets
to the eight yard line. That'll be a first down.
It was first in eleven after the flag, and we're
gonna have a time out here for an injured player.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
Ooh, that's one of the big boys for Gridge.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
That is that Krall. Absolutely, it is.
Speaker 1 (53:17):
Brett Kroll, a junior six six, three to oh one.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
So it's a thirteen yard game down to the eight
yard line. On the pass from Babbitt to villar Real.
It is first in goal orchard View with thirty three
seconds to play until the half. Oakridge leads the game
twenty eight to nothing. But this is the most life
we've seen out of the OV offense tonight. They were
inside the five yard line one other time, but that
was thanks to a long kick return. Here they've been
(53:43):
able to move the football from deep in their own
territory now set up with a first down and goal.
And I like this tempo. I realize it's because you
don't have any timeouts and you're late in the quarter,
and I'm sure Oakridge is in a certain defense due
to this, but this quicker tempo is worv.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Yeah, and it seems to just sparked them, and like
you said that, you can see the pep in their
step a little bit. But think about this here. Granted
it's twenty eight to nothing, but if Ov's able to
come in and score here, remember they received the kickoff
in the second half, so you know you could go
into the half if it's twenty eight seven, say hey,
we just scored right there and we're getting the ball.
So this is huge right here for Richard View.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
Say tuned for the Preferred Automotive halftime show. Preferred Automotive

seven hundred vehicles available. Preferred has the vehicle to fit
any budget. Preferred is driving our community. Coming up on
the halftime show, we'll have an out of town scoreboard.
(54:42):
We'll take a look at some first half stats, recap,
scoring summary, and take a look to the second half. Plus.
We hope to check in with our Lakeshore Spotlight reporter
John Ardur, who's at the spring Lake fruit Port game tonight.
I'm the Bayou at Grabinsky Field. Croll able to get
(55:02):
to his feet and he'll walk off under his own power.
When play resumes. Orchard View is first in goal in
the eight yard line. There are thirty three seconds to
play until the half.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Well, that's great to see Brett Kroll walking off the field.
You know, it didn't look good when he first went down.
Looked like maybe a serious type of leg injury. But
from the looks of things, he should be able to
get back in this game.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
Babbitt in the shotgun. He's got McCain on his right
and he's gonna roll right McCain with time and he's
gonna throw it out of bounds. Smart play throwing that
one away. I live to see another down. It'll be
second end goal for ov still twenty three seconds to
play before the half and the clock stops.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
Absolutely a smart play there by Peyton Babbitt. Why not,
you know, really the clock. You got three more downs
from here to try to get it in, and so
if it's not there, don't force it in. Why throw
an interception? So I'm that was one of my keys
to the game, is the decision making a babbit. He
made a good one there, just to throw it away.
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Number six Joseph Wright is checked in the game of
wide receiver for the Cardinals, the five eight hundred and
thirty seven pounds Junior Will being the slot on the right.
Babbitt is in the shotgun, takes the snap past time,
pump fakes. Now he's gonna roll right and he's gonna run.
Eddy breaks the tackle and reaches for the pylon, and
they're gonna say he didn't get there.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
Oh, I don't know about that. I thought he got
that pilon.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
The football definitely hit the pilon, but Win where his
feet out of bounds? They're gonna rule him out at
the two. They stopped the clock as he went out
of bounds, so thirteen seconds to go, it'll be third
down and goal for Orchard View.
Speaker 1 (56:43):
They were down here once and didn't get in Now
they absolutely need to get in here.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Two plays and build a half. Thirteen seconds to go.
Babbit keeps he's in trouble. He breaks the tackle, he
tries to turn the corner, and they're gonna say he's
down and the football is loose. There's a beam bag.
It's recovered by Oakreadge in the end zone. It will
be a touchback. And it's oh wow, it's gone from
(57:09):
bad to worse for Orchard View. There's second trip inside
the five yard line, a turnover on downs, and now
they lose a fumble and Oakredge is gonna be able
to get to the half with a big lead.
Speaker 1 (57:19):
Wow, that is a It was a great play by
Babbitt to it looked like he was gonna get us
tackled for a loss. He managed to weez it his
way towards the goal line. I wasn't able to see
what happened, but somehow the ball came loose right at
the goal line. And Oakridge pounces on it and they're
gonna go into the half twenty eight to nothing. But
(57:40):
if you think about it, Jason, it could be twenty
eight to fourteen.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
Well, an opportunistic defense by oakredge twice they've come up
with a stop inside the five yard line and they're
gonna go to the half of a twenty eight to
nothing lead. Houston under center just takes the knee and
that'll do it for the first twenty four minute. It's
Oakridge twenty eight orchard View nothing. Stay tuned for the
Preferred Automotive halftime show. This is the LMCU Lake Shore

The Moose. I'm the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the

Jason Hutton along with Tom Kendra and this is the
(58:28):
preferred Automotive halftime show. We've got a scoring recap, stats
and radio Rapid Radio scoreboard coming up, but first we
want to check in with our guy, John Arder. He
is our lake Shore Spotlight Game of the Week reporter
this season, and John is out joining us live from
Grabrinsky Field, where Springlake is taking on rival Fruitport. John,
(58:51):
what do you got.
Speaker 3 (58:51):
For us recording Springlake High School? This is game reporter
John Arder with a Lake four spotlight game halftime report. Yes,
here's tonight. The story is spring Lake twenty six and
screw Park nothing. Here's a summary of what's happened so
far in today's game. It's spent all spring Lake here.
In the first half, the Lakers took the opening kick
(59:12):
and rose fifty six yards forty score at the eighteen
mark for the first quarter, Senior running back Alex Beato
went around right side for a thirty four yard touchdown. Then,
on the two wing kickoff.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
First play, Fruport fumbled and it was recovered by Kelly
Tager at the six fifty six Martin.
Speaker 3 (59:31):
Quarterback ring Greamer.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
Grimmer scored on two to one yard touchdown runs.
Speaker 3 (59:35):
The first one in the first quarter was five to
eleven mins, and the step one in the second quarter
with nine twenty four.
Speaker 4 (59:41):
The then running back Daryl Lawrence pennis the shoring in
the second quarter with a three yard cutdown with forty
seconds left in the hatch. The Laker offense has not
been top one fourth great scoring drive as Spring Lakers.
Speaker 3 (59:55):
Last Pot one ninety eight versus only twenty yards score
full quarter again before.
Speaker 4 (01:00:01):
Spring six blopboard nothing high School.
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
This is one seventh n US game recorder, John R.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
We're gonna call a week one audible. We'll work work
the kinks out with John Ardor. This is the preferred
automotive halftime show where Oakridge leads orchard View twenty eight
to nothing in the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the
Week on one oh seven m U s the Moose.
And let's take a look at some of the first
half stats with Tim Kender.
Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
Yeah, so this is our mk D Funeral Homes first
half scoring summary.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
I guess we'll go with that.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
First of all, Oakridge again leading this game over orchard
View twenty eight to nothing. Two touchdowns in the first quarter,
two touchdowns in the second quarter. It started off Bryson
Stevenson after a big kickoff return by Jordan Daily to
open the game. First play from scrimmage, Bryson Stevenson fifteen
yard run, the two point conversion. Brice and Stevenson ran
(01:00:57):
that in. It was eight to nothing Oakridge and then
Oakridge getting the ball back again Bryson Stevenson, this time
from three yards out and the extra point failed. At
the end of the first quarter, it was fourteen to
nothing Oakridge, and then in the second quarter more from
the Eagles again a well oiled machine so far. Tonight
Bryce and Stevenson the senior running back thirty eight yard run.
(01:01:20):
This time Eduardo Eldretti nailed the extra point twenty one nothing.
And then with one fifty eight remaining in the first half,
it was someone other than Bryson Stephensondayson. This time it
was Jayden Daniels four yard run and again Eldretti with
the extra point twenty eight to nothing. Ov then showed
(01:01:41):
some signs of life, drove all the way down to
the field end of the field, but then Peyton Babbitt
a fumble right on the goal line and Oakridge recovers,
and that's the way the first half ended. Again the
MKD Funeral Homes scoring summary twenty eight to nothing Oakridge
at the break.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):

dot com now with eight locations in West Michigan to

Speaker 1 (01:02:25):
Yes, and looking at these stats. First of all, we
got to thank Jim Smith. He's taken over from Mark
Collin Beck as the statman for Oakridge football and an
assist from his son Jim Smith. James Smith the third
and he ran the stats up to us, so thank
you to them. But the one stat that jumps out
at me right away is the rushing yardage in this game.
(01:02:48):
Oakridge thirty rushes for two hundred and twenty four yards,
Meanwhile orchard View eight rushes for negative three yards. So
if that doesn't say something about who's winning it the
line of scrimmage, I don't know what stat would. OVI
actually has the edge in passing yards one hundred and
ten yards to just six passing yards for Oakridge, but
(01:03:11):
of course Oakridge hasn't had to throw it at all.
In terms of individuals, it is Bryson Stevenson again, the
senior six ten rushes, one and twenty five yards three touchdowns.
Jaden Daily has eight rushes for thirty three yards. Uh uh, Jordan,
(01:03:33):
let me see here, got just first names that we're
going with here, But then Bryce Abisson four rushes for
eighteen yards. Logan Houston we mentioned the junior six '
four quarterback for Oakridge getting his first start. He's only
through two passes, hasn't had to throw it. Completed one
of two passes for six yards to Alec Moore was
(01:03:56):
on the receiving end of that, and again for Orchard View.
Almost nothing to mention in the rushing category, negative three
yards rushing. The shining star so far has been Peyton Babbitt,
the junior quarterback. He's eight for fifteen through the air
with one interception. He's got one hundred and ten yards.
Leading receivers, let's see here, Tomari Wright two catches for
(01:04:23):
forty four yards, Daniel Cooper three catches for thirty two yards.
It looks like his first names here, Chris Thiely two
catches for twelve yards, and Emilio Villario had one catch
for twelve yards. Defensively, it's a I'm trying to find
(01:04:44):
these names. Jaden Day is the leading tackler for Oakridge
with four stops, and meanwhile for Orchard View Van Matthews
seven tackles from his linebacker position. But looking a little
further into some of these things, time of possession, you know,
almost fifteen minutes for Oakridge, just nine minutes for ov
(01:05:05):
so they're really possessing the ball, keeping it away. And
again the total yardage two hundred and thirty yards per Oakridge,
just one hundred and seven for Richard View.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):

We'll step aside on this Preferred Automotive halftime show, come
back with a look at some other scores from around
the area and some keys to the second half. This
is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on
one oh seven m us the Moose Oakridge twenty eight
orchard View nothing. Jason Along with Tom Kendra. This is
the preferred Automotive halftime show, and we're going to take
(01:06:00):
a look at some other scores presented by Rapid Radios
with Tom.
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
Yeah, there's some interesting scores here, Jay that I'm looking at.
Of course, we heard from John Ard there twenty six
to nothing. That was the last score we had spring
Lake all over Fruitport in the battle to buy you There.
Here's an interesting one over at Grand Blank where it's
the same site where New Loathroup pulled out a thirty
to twenty nine win over Mskegan Catholic. That was a
(01:06:24):
four o'clock game. But right after that Grand Blank and
Mona Shores they're in a good game in the second
quarter Grand Blank seven, Mona Shoors six. So kind of
an interesting one there. Forest Hills Central they've scored again, Jay,
they lead Reese buff from fourteen to three. And Unity
Christian rolling right now twenty nine to seven over Whitehall,
(01:06:45):
also rolling Forest Hills Eastern. You know, we're a lot
of buzz about them coming into this year. It looks
a legit so far. Thirty four to nothing over Montague.
It's like a good one in Palomo. The last score
I have here North Muskegan seven, Palama Westphalia zero, and
then a couple others in the Small school division. Newego nineteen,
(01:07:08):
Kent City six, Ralph Munger looking to get his second
season at Newego off to a good start, and then
Grant at home all over Kellogg'sville thirty to eight. I
want to mention you know, there's most of the games
are being played here tonight with Labor Day weekend coming up,
but three games on the schedule Lakes Or schedule for tomorrow,
including a huge game at Hackley Stadium Zealand West. A
(01:07:31):
lot of buzz about them this year. This is now
a non conference game, Zeeland West coming in to take
on the defending Division two state champion Muskegan Big Reds,
So that should be a good one. A couple other
games Grand Haven, you know, a lot of talk about
them being much improved this year. They're opening at Stevensville
Lake Shore, and then the Ravanna Bulldogs making the trip
(01:07:53):
to Beal City, a team that's been in the playoffs
more than any other team in the state of Michigan.
Ravan at beal City. That's the final of our three
area games tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
One more game from tonight. I want to throw in
there from Carlson Mungers Stadium, Rockford leading cast Tech twenty
three to seven. Interesting. You know last year Miskegan Rockford
played Week one. We all thought it was the Battle
of the Titans. It was gonna be a great game
in Rockford led twenty seven to nothing. They've just been
so good early in the season and we're seeing that
again tonight with a big lead over a highly highly
thought of cast Tech with lots and lots of d
(01:08:26):
one town here at Cardinal Stadium. It's Oakridge at twenty
eight orchard View Nothing. This is the preferred Automotive halftime show.
We're going to take a quick break. We'll come back
with some keys to the second half right after this.
You are listening to the Lake Michigan Credit Union Lake
Shore Game of the Week on one oh seven m
us The Moose, Oakridge twenty eight Orchard View Nothing. In
(01:08:49):
the Lake Michigan Credit Union Lake Shore Game of the
Week on one oh seven point nine m us The Moose.
Jason Heaton along with Tom Kendra and Tom Oakridge going
to kick off off to Orchard You to start the
second half. What are some keys here? In the second half,
especially if the cards were down big.
Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
Well, orchard View first and foremost, when you get a chance,
take it. I mean, they've had two chances to score.
I mean, it's bad enough when you can't stop the
other team, but then when you're also doing them a
favor by not punching the ball in. They were down
at the two yard line through an interception, and then
right at the end of the half there they ran
all the way to the goal line, fumbled at the
(01:09:26):
goal line and no score there either. So I mean
the first key for Orchard View again, when they get
a chance, they have to punch it in. And then
then when you look at oak Ridge in terms of
the keys, the only thing that stopped them in the
first half was themselves, whether it was fumbles or penalties.
So I'm sure Carrie Harger just says, hey, let's just
do our thing. Hold on to the ball and you know,
(01:09:49):
stay away from the penalties, and you know, we'll just
run this game out.
Speaker 2 (01:09:52):
Six possessions in the first half for the Eagles, four touchdowns.
The last position was one play where they took a
kne of the half and then the fumble was on
the ov ten yard line, so pretty efficient for the
Eagles minus that one fumble, and they're gonna kick off
to start this second half. Twelve minutes around the clocket
is twenty eight to nothing. Oak Ridge. The Eagles another
(01:10:16):
big game next week, they'll go two Montague. So Oakridge
starts the season with three straight away games. OV has
three straight home games. They've got defending Lake's Division champion
Whitehall coming here next Friday night.
Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
Yeah, it doesn't get much easier for OV because we mentioned,
you know, Montague. They're having their problems today tonight at
Forest Chills Eastern, but they should be much improved. That'll
be another tough game, and then Manistee and Muskegan Catholic Central,
So yeah, it's tough. You know, Aaron James in his
first year, you know, I got to go back to
Matt Kozak in his first year at Mona Shores one
in eight. So Rome wasn't built in a day and
(01:10:52):
you can't turn around to a high school football program
in a year usually, and.
Speaker 2 (01:10:55):
It's only been two quarters, so still time here to
turn things around tonight if your Orchard View, but it's
gonna have to start with a good possession here as
they get the football. Emilio Villarrial is back deep to
return this kick. Eduardo Aldretti is gonna kick it deep
(01:11:16):
for the Eagles. He's already had a couple of touchbacks tonight,
showing a very strong leg. The one he didn't get
a touchback was the one that OV was able to
return to the Oakridge twenty six yard line. This will
not be a touchback. Billar Rial, though went to a
Niba couldn't handle it. Now he picks it up his
own ten yard line and he's gonna be dropped by
Guerrero McGrady at about the fifteen. So OV will start
(01:11:37):
eighty five yards away from their first points of the night.
Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
Yeah, another, just like the first half got off to
a rough start, a little shaky beginning there here. But
you know, even though Orchard View didn't score on that
last possession, they we saw glimmers of what their offense
could be. Let's see if it continues here on this
first possession here of the second half, if they were
able to score and keep that positive. Let him going.
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
So first and ten from the fifteen yard line. We
saw Brett Kroll leave the game late in the second
quarter with an injury. Number fifty four, Gage Sturgeon, who
starts at guard now taking over for him on the
defensive line. Babbitt on the option keeps it gets about
to Bryson Stevenson crashing down to make the play for
the Eagles. It'd be second and eight.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Yeah, nice job, good decision there by Peyton Babbitt. He
saw some daylight there and he was able to squirt through.
But all of those holes are closing quickly. This Elkridge
defense very athletic under the direction of Tim Parker, well coached.
Always in position.
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
Second and eight, ball in the seventeen yard line, babbit
in the shotgun. We haven't seen much of McCain tonight.
Play action to McCain and a quick flip out in
the flat to villar Real. He's over the twenty, close
to the twenty two yard line, gonna bring up third
down in short nov has been effective with those short,
quick passes.
Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
You know, I can't tell you what a great play
that was by Bryson Stevenson out in the flat, because
against an inferior opponent, that's the kind of play. You
break that tackle, that could be a seventy yard run.
But Oakridge is just not letting them turn those short
completions into big games.
Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
Bryce the Stephens is playing that hybrid safety linebacker role
for the Eagles and doing an outstanding job. Babbitt on
the slamp for Cooper pass incomplete, Alec Moore supplying the defense.
It's gonna be fourth down for OV. They're on their
own twenty two yard line and it looks like they
are gonna punt.
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
Wow, And that's exactly what they didn't want to have happen.
They needed to haul in that ball and move the
move the sticks because now they're gonna give the ball
right back to Oakridge. I didn't mention. I wanted to
mention who's helping out. Aaron James, his brother Holsey James
is one of the assistants for OV along with Billy Shanks,
a veteran line coach is over helping him out. And
(01:13:51):
Justin Duson is the other varsity coach over at OV
this year.
Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
So Curtis Scott into punt, Aleck Moore going back to
the Eagles his own forty three yard line. Good pass
from center and not a great kick. It'll go out
of bounds definitely in Orchard View territory. We'll see where
they market. But Oakridge is going to start for the
fourth time in this game on the OV side of
the field. They're gonna say it went out of bounds.
(01:14:17):
It's the thirty eight yard line. And now Oakridge, I
would guess Tom, they're going to run the football here
and try to extend this lead.
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
Yeah, and then they could end up in running Clockville
here if they're able to knock this one. Knock this
one in here. But yeah, Curtis Scott, we saw him
before the game kicking. He was doing a great job
kicking field goals, but he's been struggled so far. Punting
the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
On first down, the give is to Stevenson. Stevenson's through
the line of scrimmage at the twenty Stevenson to the
tenant into the end zone. The first played from scrimmage
in the first quarter of Bryson Stevens ten touchdown run.
The first play from scrimmage in the third quarter for
the Eagles, a Bryson Stevenson touchdown run thirty eight yards
to the high his fourth of the game, and we
are an extra point away from a running clock.
Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
Wow. That was another. His last touchdown run was thirty
eight yards he had another thirty eight yarder. But uh,
just like the first half nightmare start that Oakridge Daily
had the big kickoff return to start the second half
or the first half followed by a Stevenson run and
here you know, a three and out for ov first
(01:15:25):
play Bryson Stevenson another score.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Logan Houston in the whole or the extra point and
Aldretti booms it through. That'll make it thirty five to
nothing Oakridge or over orchard View. We'll step aside. This
is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on
one oh seven point nine m US The Moates. Stay
(01:15:51):
tuned after the game for the Shaeffer Schwartz PLC postgame show.
If you've been injured in an auto accident, make sure
you have David Shaeffer and your side. David Schaeffer born
and raised in Miskegon County and proud to be a
supporter of high school football. Oakridge kicking off after the
Stevenson's fourth touchdown run, Demari Right takes it at his
own three. He's back out across the twenty and about
(01:16:14):
the twenty four yard line. Orchard View will go first
and ten, trailing thirty five to nothing. The running clock
is in effect, so the clock will only stop for
an injury, a timeout, and change of possession.
Speaker 1 (01:16:32):
I believe so. Yes, you know, coming into this game day,
the biggest surprise to me. I just thought OV was
gonna have a real big advantage in the team speed,
the athleticism. But it seems like Oakridge has matched them
in that area, and then then obviously with their edge
up front. You put those two things together and you've
got a thirty five to nothing Oakridge.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
Lead number sixty. Dylan cunning In, who's the starting center,
has checked in at a defensive line for oak Bridge.
Babbitt out of the shotgun, he sends theey in motion,
fakes the jet sweep. Babbit keeps said. He's across the
thirty and fighting hard for a first down. I'll be
forced out of bounds at about the thirty six yard line. Well,
(01:17:16):
but further downfield, Corey McCain is shaking up on the
near side forty seven yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
He's a two way starter for a OV running back
and linebacker.
Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
So the clock will stop. The running clock will stop
here with nine to fifty seven to play, third quarter,
Oakridge thirty five Orchard View nothing. The Eagles are three
for four on extra points from exchange student Eduardo Aldretti.
They went for two on their opening touchdown after an
(01:17:52):
offsides penalty, moved the ball to the one yard line
and Stevenson ran in for an eight to nothing lead.
Missed the extra point after Steven's the second touchdown run,
and have been three for three on the last three
to get us to thirty five to nothing. Hopefully Kree
McCain's gonna be okay Orchard Vie is gonna have the
ball first and ten on their own thirty five yard
line after a ten yard gain from Peyton Babbitt, so
(01:18:14):
they move the chains. Still see a lot of starters
out there for both teams. Were still very early in
this third quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:18:22):
Mcaint be an intended to yeah, I was just gonna mention.
We talked about ov what they have coming up oak Ridge.
They're going there'll be at Montague next week, which will
be an interesting matchup. Monague again having trouble. They did
get on the board, but they trail Forest Till's Eastern
thirty four to seven, and then another trip to Manistee
(01:18:43):
before they finally come home. Luddington Fremont Whitehall three straight
home games. But then we're scheduled to do oak Ridge
again when they play at Belding, your alma mater, and
so that should be something in week seven.
Speaker 2 (01:18:56):
Belding trailing I on you right now fourteen to six
in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:18:59):
The wind up the season against rival Ravanna, and then
at North Muskegan, that could be an interesting one.
Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
Quarterback power Peyton Babby right up the middle, but he
has met by Preston six as well as Jordan Guerrero McGrady.
Give him maybe a yard, but it's gonna be second
and long.
Speaker 1 (01:19:17):
Yeah, let's see if Orchard View. Obviously at this point
they want to get on the board. You don't want
to have an opening game where you have put up
the bagel there on the scoreboard. So I think it's
important for them to get into the end zone here
and avoid a shutout.
Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
With Corey McCain out number twenty four, Van Matthews has
checked in at running back for the Cardinals. He's a
five to ten, one hundred and eighty pounds senior who
starts at middle linebacker on defense second down and nine
for Babbitt, he's in the gun with Matthews on his
right straight back to pass with time looking deep for
Demori right and the pass will fall incomplete. More good
(01:19:56):
defense by Alec Moore stting up third and long.
Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
Yep again, I'm kind of like a broken record, but
the athleticism of the defensive backs and running backs for
oak Ridge has been very impressive. That was sort of
the the story on Oakridge coming into the season. They're
gonna be good upfront, but there are a lot of
question marks everywhere else. But I've been very impressed with
their skill kids. And again looking at Whitehall, you know
(01:20:24):
they're obviously struggling at unity. Christian just you know, quickly
looking at things in that WMC lakes oak Ridge and Whitehall,
those could be the two teams.
Speaker 2 (01:20:35):
Third and nine. Babbitt with the playfake, gonna throw on
the wheel route, caught for a first down, Emilio Villarreal
hauled it in and he's into Oakridge territory at the
forty six. Nice little play there to move the sticks.
Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
You're right, Jay, A nice little play and a nice
little throw there by Peyton Babbitt. I mean, this team's
gonna get better and better as the year goes on,
no question about it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
And we got a whistle. Oakridge trainers are on the field.
I'm not sure what's happening.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
I know there's a AB player down here on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (01:21:15):
Three appears to be three Oakridge trainers coming across the field,
maybe to help work on Corey McCain. McCain was the
player who was down on the field and being tended
two moments ago when the game was stopped. That's very strange, Tom,
all my years, I've never seen that game stop for
the trainers across the field. First intent orchard View on
the Oakridge forty six yard line. Babbitt with a quick
(01:21:36):
throw incomplete. Daniel Cooper couldn't come up with it. It'll
be second to ten.
Speaker 1 (01:21:40):
Well, that's ah. That play right there is almost a
microcosm of the night for orchard View. A beautiful just
a strong throw on a rope out there, Peyton Babbitt
right into the hands of Daniel Cooper, glances off his hands. Incomplete.
Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Clock's running thirty five point Oakridge lead, so the clock
did not stop in the incomplete pass. It's second down
and ten. There's seven minutes, nine seconds to play. Third quarter.
Babbitt pump fakes, wants to go deep. He's got Tomorrow
right out there, but Zach Cribbins, coming over from a
safety spot, breaks it up and incomplete.
Speaker 1 (01:22:16):
Wow. Yeah, he was open there briefly. If Babbitt could
have got the ball to him a little bit sooner,
but by the time he got rid of it, Zach
Cribbins closed on it well, made a great play knocking
it away.
Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
So it'll be third down and ten for Orchard View,
six minutes forty seconds to play. Third quarter. Eagles have
been impressive on both sides of the football. Their offensive
line is dominated the line of scrimmage when they have it,
and their defense has been good at all three levels.
Now Babbitt to throw in third and ten, rolling right
passes incomplete. He was trying to get it out there
to Villa Reale, but he was chased and couldn't quite
(01:22:53):
hook up with him. And it'll be fourth down in ten.
But I got to imagine on the plus side of
the field down thirty five, they'll go for him.
Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
Yeah, we shall see here. You want to try to score,
you also don't want the scoreboard to get too lopsided.
Let's see what Let's see he was right here, looks
like Jason Hutton is correct here They're gonna go for it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
It won't happen often this year. But fourth and ten
from the oakreage forty six or to review keeps the
offense on the field and they start out with three
wide receivers to the far side, but Villa Real comes
in motion to the slot on the left. Van Matthews
still in there at running back next to Peyton Babbitt.
Theli in motion Babbit back to pass looking for Villa
(01:23:35):
Reale and incomplete. Alec Moore once again there to defend
for Oakridge and the Eagles will get the football back
with five and a half to play in the third core.
Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
Yeah, it looks I got Peyton babbit a little bit
of frustration they're heading off the field, but U yeah,
this is a good team. That was, like you said,
a great play out in the open field to knock
that one loose. Yeah, I'm impressed with the technology they here,
Jay for Orchard View. You know, Peyton Babbitt comes off
the field, he goes right and sits on the bench
(01:24:06):
there where they have a big screen TV where he
can uh and then Aaron James usually comes over there
and joins him a minute later where they can just
review each play.
Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
Starters still out there for Oakrich Houston hands it off
to Jaden Daily. Daily dances around a couple tacklers, turns
the corner, he's inside the thirty five and dragged down
near the thirty. Van Matthews might have saved a touchdown,
but it's thirteen yards in a first down for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (01:24:30):
Again. The offensive line just continuing to dominate. We talked
about the size, but let me let me read it
off to you here. Left tackle Evan Jose to eighty six,
left guard Max Handel two seventy three, the center Dylan
Cunningham little guy to twenty nine, Gabe Sturgeon the right
guard two thirty one, and then Brett Kroll the right
tackle three to zero one. So you add all that together,
(01:24:52):
that's averaging about two hundred and sixty pounds a man.
That's pretty good at Division five.
Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
So we'll check it. It's the forty one yard line
and it's first and ten. Bryce Bisson right up the
middle gets a yard. Good to see number sixty five.
Brett Kroll back in there. He left the game in
the second quarter shaking up a little bit, but he
is back out there at his left tackle position. He
has not returned to the defensive side of the football
where he started the game as well, but back out
there at tackle, and that's good to see for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
Yeah, that time, Kobe Span the junior linebacker, made that
stop for OV one of the only times this whole
game where you know they've stopped to Oakridge right at
the line of scrimmage. It's almost everything has been at
least a four or five yard gain for Oakridge.
Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Gavin Dempsey, number seventy two, five eleven, three hundred pounds
for Orchard View. He's played this whole game at right guard.
Now he's in the defensive line as well, doing a
yeoman's work for the Cardinals. Second down to nine on
the forty and they give us to daily running left daily.
Inside the thirty five, he's close to a first down
at about the thirty two. He might be a yard
a short. And now Bryson Stevenson is hopping around a
(01:25:59):
little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
Yeah. I don't know if he felt like a cramp
coming on or something, but he appears to be okay.
Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
So market is the thirty two, it'll be third down
and one for the Eagles. As number seven, Parker Williamson,
a five to nine and forty two pounds junior, has
checked in the game at wide receiver. Of course, we've
seen a lot of Alec More at that position tonight,
But as this game wears on late in the third
(01:26:29):
quarter here we'll see Kerry Harger and company get some
other guys into the game. So third down and one,
Bisson is behind Houston in the pistol daily on the
right wing, and they give his to Bison right up
the middle. He's got a first down, and he's got more.
He's inside the twenty five and all the way down
to about the twenty one yard line, So eleven more
yards for Bryce Bisson. And if there's one play that
(01:26:50):
hasn't been as effective for Oakrich tonight, it's that right
in the middle, right over the guard play with Bison.
At that time it was effective.
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
Yeah, and that's surprising too. You know, I thought that
was gonna be one of their bread and butter plays.
It's been that off tackle play where they've just been
you know, washing out that whole side of the line.
And the other thing that I wanted to mention, how
about the center play. We don't talk enough about them
with the pistol. But Dylan Cunningham's done a great job
and so has the center for uh Connor Devrees for.
Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
Ov there's Jade Dally over left tackle. He's got about
four close to the seventeen yard line. It'll be second
down for oak Ridge, down to a minute forty five
to play in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:27:31):
You know, you have very few problems with those exchanges
between center and quarterback because normally the first week of
the season you're seeing high ones, ones that roll on
the ground, so you know, you don't hear about the
center unless they mess up usually. But hey, I want
to give him a little love. Dylan Cunningham for oak Ridge,
Connor Derees for OV.
Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
Say tuned after the game, we'll name our Beton Chevrolet
Cadillac Drive of the Game Betan Chevrolet Cadillac GMC buck
in Muskegan. The GM Giant visit both sides of Henry
Street today. On second down, the give to for Oakridge
is to Bissen. This time he's tackled for a loss
back at the twenty yard line. He's gonna bring up
third down and long.
Speaker 1 (01:28:14):
Yeah, broken play that time. I think someone went the
wrong way and that was Justin Sweitzer who came in
jumped on his back and uh Ov, let's see third
and long here, four down territory at the twenty yard line.
But let's see if Ov can finally get a stop
down in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
Third down and nine, Bryson Stevenson in motion. He's gonna
get the pitch from Houston. He's got a first down,
he's inside the ten, spins inside the five, and into
the end zone. Five rushing touchdowns for Bryson Stevenson, who
scores from twenty yards out with twenty seven seconds to
play in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:28:55):
Well, Jay, you mentioned just a minute ago that I'll
be we'll be picking our player of the game, and
it's gonna be hard to go in any other direction
besides number two for oak Ridge. Not only running the
ball obviously, with five touchdowns now on the game, he's
also played a heck of a game from his defensive
back spot as well. So well, you know, I could
(01:29:17):
go in another direction, but it's looked every all signs
are pointing towards mister Stevenson, Bryce.
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
And Stevenson's having a night. It's the first game of
his senior year, and Eduardo Aldretti drills the extra point,
make it Oakridge forty two orchard View nothing. We're gonna
step aside. This is the LMCU lake Shore Game of
the Week. On one oh seven m us the Moose
(01:29:45):
orchard View nothing. Edward Aldretti kicks it off to Damari Wright,
who takes it at his own seven yard line right,
cuts it back at the twenty five and drop there.
Orchard View will take over what will be the final
play the third quarter due to the running clock. Our
score after three quarters Oakridge forty two, orchard View nothing.
(01:30:07):
We'll come back with the final twelve minutes. This is
the Lake Shore Game of the Week, presented by Lake
Michigan Credit Union. On one oh seven point nine m
us the Moose after thirty six minutes of play. Our
score in the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week
(01:30:28):
on one oh seven m us the Moose is Oakridge
forty two, orchard View nothing. Jason Hutton, along with Tom Kendra,
that offensive line for the Eagles has paved the way
and Bryson Stevenson's had a night with five rushing touchdowns. Tom.
It's getting an update on some other scores in the area.
Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
Yeah looking at Mona Shores has has scored just before
the half, fourteen to seven. They lead Grand Blank. A
good game over there at Grand Blank at halftime, spring
Lake all over Fruitport forty to nothing. It's Forest Hill
Central twenty one, Reese Buffer ten and a Unity Christian
just absolutely rolling at Home forty three to fourteen over Whitehall.
(01:31:08):
That was That's our game of the week on ninety
six point one Brett Pakita and Buck Gino Ford Stills
Eastern thirty four, Montague seven. It's Hopkins twenty seven Fremont
twenty and the good game at Hopkins. Still no change
in that big one at Palamo Westphalia last report North
Muskegan seven, Palamo zero, Shelby. We a lot to talk
(01:31:32):
about them being much improved in that WMC rivers looking
good so far thirty nine to fourteen over White Cloud,
Newego twenty seven, eighteen over Kent City and finally Grant
thirty eight Kellogg's Bill eight.
Speaker 2 (01:31:46):
Coopersville leading out Sego thirty four to nothing. Peyton. Bbbitt's
pass on first down is incompleted, It'll be second and
ten for OV. Scoreboard updates are provided by Rapid Radios
all season longer. Game reporters are aided by the instantaneous
communication provided by Rapid Radios. Rapid Rates provide a push

and unlimited range. Great for families, emergencies, kids, and businesses.
(01:32:08):
Go to rapid Radios dot com to learn more. That's
rapid Radios dot com second and ten for ov there
on their own twenty five yard line clock running inside
eleven and a half minutes to play in the game.
Babbitt gonna give it up the middle. No, he faked
it and he ran it himself. Babbitt's got a big game.
To the forty babbit to midfield babbit to the thirty
(01:32:30):
Peyton Babbit seventy five yards no flags in orchard View
has their first points of the season.
Speaker 1 (01:32:38):
Wow, And how about Peyton babbit with the speed when
he got into the open there along the home sidelines
seventy five yards. You know, as bad as things have been,
he's shown flashes of brilliance and that was one of
them right there at six one point eight. I didn't
know he had that kind of foot speed, but he
ran away from the secondary and good to see getting
(01:33:00):
on the board, and you might.
Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
Say, well, it's forty two to nothing in the fourth quarter.
Did it happen against the second string defense? Certainly not
every Okredge defensive starter was still in the game, but
there were several Oakridge starters still out there, so it's
not like he did it against a complete second team.
Speaker 1 (01:33:15):
Well exactly, I still see Bryce and Stevenson, I still
see a Zach Cribbins, so.
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
Evan Joses out there, Alec Moore.
Speaker 1 (01:33:23):
And like I said, he's been close a few times
and then that time he was able to break it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:28):
So Ov's gonna line up to go for two, but
it looks like they don't have the personnel they want.
Speaker 1 (01:33:34):
So again the confusion of a first year program is
showing itself. They're gonna have to follow time out.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
The articular leg and then now coach Aaron James will
signal for the timeout, so orchard View will take it
eleven tend to play in the fourth quarterble wait in
a two point conversion. Oakridge leading Orchard View forty two
to six. We'll step aside. This is the LMCU Lake
Shore Game of the Week on one oh seven m
US numbers. We're back in the Lake short game of
(01:34:07):
the week. Orchard View's two point attempt is no good
and our score will remain Oakridge forty two orchard View six.
Running clock will remain in effect. Had the Cardinals been
able convert that two point conversion, we would have lost
the running clock.
Speaker 1 (01:34:22):
Oh hey, so we're happy for that right.
Speaker 2 (01:34:24):
Eleven minutes ten seconds to play in the game. Clock
has currently stopped because of the score. So orchard View
will kick off oakredg will get it back. All Eagles tonight.
It started with the opening kickoff return by Jaden Daily.
He brought it back to the orchard View fifteen yard
line and Bryson Stevenson scored on the first play from scrimmage,
the first of the seniors' five rushing touchdowns on the night.
(01:34:51):
And it's set the tone for this game, Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:34:53):
No question about it. And Oakridge, you know, we talked
about him coming in upfront, but I've just been impressed
with their full team. They the way they've done everything
offensively and defensively. The one thing we haven't seen they
haven't had to do. They haven't had to throw the ball.
So you know, there were questions coming in about Logan Houston,
their junior quarterback getting his first varsity start. He's six four,
(01:35:15):
one fifty five, so great height. But all he's had
to do is turn and hand it off. And so
I guess, you know, we'll have to see maybe in
future games. Probably next week against Whitehall, they're gonna have
to throw the ball. I guess we'll probably have to
wait until next week to see, you know, how Logan
Houston is doing throwing it.
Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Okredg will get it back here. Forty two to six
is their lead. You have to wonder. I'm sure hands
team would be out there. Okrege might be thinking about
Orchard View with an on side's kick, Curtis Scott's teeing
it up at his own forty yard line, although it
does not look like a hands team for Oakridge. A
lot of numbers in the fifties, sixties, and seventies on
that front line. But Bryce Bison is right there in
(01:35:58):
the middle, and Curtis Scott kicks it deep. Jayden Daly
is gonna take it at his own twelve yard line,
goes up the middle, across the thirty and down at
about the thirty two yard line, and that's where Oakwred
would go to work. Clock running inside eleven minutes to
play in the game.
Speaker 1 (01:36:18):
Yeah, let's see now, I think we're gonna probably see
a lot more subs coming in. Although you know, these
teams don't have a lot of kids on the sidelines.
It's not like they have a whole second string they
can put in. It's probably just be working in some
other players here.
Speaker 2 (01:36:34):
That's true. Okridge is up maybe around thirty because of
the fifth quarter kids. I'm sure he'll get a chance here.
But Orchard View only dressing about twenty one guys here tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:36:44):
Yeah, but Orchard View, you know, they have about the
same number of kids on their JV. There were years
they didn't have a JV. A couple of years ago,
they didn't even have a varsity team. So the numbers
are good at OV, but they just need some time
to learn this new system.
Speaker 2 (01:36:58):
Logan Houston's still in a quarterback and he's got Jordan
Guerrero McGrady in the backfield along with him and Bryce
and Stevenson's still in there, Jayden Daily on the right wing.
Okadreli milking the play clock here. We're inside ten minutes
to go in the game. Houston'll take the snap and
hand it to Stevenson running right, Stevenson out close to
(01:37:20):
the forty yard line, They'll give him the thirty nine.
It's a game of six, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:37:26):
Again, that's just more of the same, that off tackle run.
And every time they've run that play, they've they've gotten
at least four or five yards on it. That ov
has just been unable to find a way to shut
that off. And you got to give credit to those
big offensive tackles for Oakridge, Evan Josa and Brett Kroll
(01:37:46):
just leading the way on those sweeps.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
This is the West Michine Conference Lakes Division opener. No
other schools in the division have a conference game tonight.
Everybody else is in non league. This is the opener
for both schools. Oakridge looking to start its conference slate
at one and oh nine oh eight to play in
the game, Houston will give to Jaden Daily. Daily breaks
the tackling. He's got a first down, breaks a second
(01:38:11):
tackles into Orchard View territory, and he'll finally be ushered
out of bounds inside the forty five at about the
forty one yard line. Spawn made the tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:38:24):
Just a nifty piece of running there by Jaden Daily
We've talked a lot about Bryson Stevenson, but you know,
Jaden Daily has been impressive. Bryce Bisson has been good.
Jordan Guerro McGrady, he came in for a little while
and I thought had a very good first step. So
Oakridge definitely has some weapons in addition to their big line, Quinny.
Speaker 2 (01:38:46):
When youred gained for jad and Daily and getting back
to that West Michigan Conference Lakes Division seven teams in
Division TOM, so every week somebody's going to have a
non conference game. The schedule's not linear, especially when you
have the one divisional game here on opening night between
Oakridge and Orchard View, but nice to have the rivalry
where belongs, rivalries going week one and week nine if
(01:39:08):
you can get them there. And that's what we have tonight.
Stevenson running right, hitting the backfield, breaks a couple of tackles,
going to make it a positive gain as he gets
down to about the thirty seven at about a three
yard gain, but he had a break a tackle in
the backfield and another the line of scrimmage to make
that happen.
Speaker 1 (01:39:23):
Yeah, again, this great rivalry. Hall Road just less than
four miles between these two schools. Just straight down Hall
Road here. One thing that I find interesting Jay in
this is for years, orchard View was always the bigger
school than oak Ridge, but that's changed now. Oakridge is
bigger five hundred and forty one kids compared to five
twenty eight for orchard View, but they're both definitely solidly
(01:39:47):
Division five schools.
Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
We have an injury time out as Oakridge Eagle linebacker
Van Matthews is slow to get up, so both teams
have gone to their sidelines. Here with seven minutes and
fifty seconds to play in the fourth quarter, stay tuned
for the postgame show. We're gonna name the Mister Bees
Pancake House play of the game. Mister Bee's Pancake House
(01:40:10):
is celebrating fifty years serving the Muskegan area. Lots of
options for the play of the game, Tom.
Speaker 1 (01:40:18):
Yes, I will be We'll be hashing that out here
over the last seven minutes and fifty seconds. And we
can also let people know we're we're gonna be at
a pretty big game next week as well.
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
Jay, Muskegan at Rockford. Of course, it was Week one
last year. Rockford wins twenty seven to seven. Big Reds
start zero and two bounce back to win twelve in
a row Winter State Championship. We'll see what the Big
Reds do tomorrow night at home against the Old West.
Right now, Rockford handling cast Tech thirty to thirteen at home.
(01:40:50):
Cade Freezing just had an interception of return for a touchdown.
So Rockford's defense, coordinated by Randy Vanderveen has scored twice
tonight against cast Tech, and we know how good Noskeigans
defense is coordinated by Shane Fairfield. Should be a way
a of a game next.
Speaker 1 (01:41:05):
Yeah, it should be. I think there's something to be said,
especially with Muskegan's kids, that that revenge factor for them.
I know it was real humiliating for them in that
home opener to get handled the way they did. I
think they've been looking forward to this game. I think
they'll be focused for it, but first they they got
(01:41:26):
to get past Zeeland West and that's going to be
no easy thing to do, especially with a Zealand West team.
Is a lot of players coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:41:35):
Shout out to Brian Paulson for sending me the updates
in the Rockford cast Tech game. He, along with many
of my coworkers attending that Rockford cast Tech team game
along with probably about ten or eleven thousand other folks
that wanted to see that one night.
Speaker 1 (01:41:49):
That's right, Shores have scored again. They lead twenty one
to seven over Grand Blank.
Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
Play resumes here as Matthew is able to walk off
to the sidelines. It'll be second down in seven for
Oakridge on the ov thirty seven yard line. Running clock
has us at seven thirty one to play in the ballgame.
That's all that stands between the Eagles and a one
n oh start to the season. As we see number
twenty Jaden Mueller, a sophomore check in the game of
(01:42:16):
the backfield, as well as number thirty one Tremaine Stevenson.
It's Mueller that gets to carry over the right side
and he goes for about five yards. It'll bring up
the third down and two. Logan Houston still the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:42:30):
Jaden Mueller one hundred and twenty five pound running back.
That's a that's one of the smaller ones I've seen
at the varsity level, but he got some speed there.
Had a nice game.
Speaker 2 (01:42:41):
I know Zach Cribbins was taking some snaps at quarterback
for Oakridge at the scrimmage, but Cale Douglas the sophomore,
the fifth quarter kid for Oakridge. I'm guessing would be
the next quarterback we see. But right now, Logan Houston
still in the game. Number seventy one. Carter Juiceila, the six,
three hundred and eighty six pound junior, is in at
(01:43:02):
left tackle for the Eagles. It is third down and
two in the thirty two six and a half minutes
to go in the game, and this time to give
over the left side goes to number nineteen, another sophomore,
Jojo White five seven, one hundred and fifty nine pounds.
He has tackled and dropped in the backfield. Three are lost.
Nice and play by Jaden Rose, the sophomore for Orchard View.
(01:43:22):
It'll set up fourth down for Oakridge.
Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
Yeah, nice play there by Jaden Ross and also Ty Smith.
Number twelve was also went on the stop a couple
of sophomores. I'm just looking at this OV roster. They
are super young. Jason Hutton and you know that's another thing.
Not only is it the first year of a new system,
but these guys are young. I mean, this is going
to be especially if Peyton Babbitt continues to develop, orchard
(01:43:47):
View could be a real team. To watch next year.
Speaker 2 (01:43:49):
While three of their four captains are juniors. When you
talk about quarterback Peyton Babbitt and then offensive lineman Thomas
Klein and Connor Deverries, all juniors. Are very young football
team and certainly with a new coaching staff year one,
game one, certainly a lot of progress to be made.
Mueller gets the carry on fourth down, he'll be tackled
and dropped before he even gets back to the line
(01:44:10):
of scrimmage. Justin Sweitzer broke through to make the play
and ov will take over on downs at their own
thirty eight yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Hey, well, that's something they got to stop there. We
talked about the youth of of Orchard View. Justin Sweitzer
is one of the seniors five ten, two fifteen. Nice
play there by him. They're upfront, they have some they
have some veterans, but it's got a lot of these
skill kids that they have are freshmen and sophomores.
Speaker 2 (01:44:37):
Well, Van Matthews is back in there at running back
for the Cardinals. He was shaking up just a few
minutes ago. Haven't seen Corey McCain since he left. In
the third quarter, and on first down, Pabitt goes with
a quick pass to Damary Wright knocked out of bounds
at the forty five yard line. You can see some
potential here. Like as you've talked about, Babbitt has certainly
shown flashes tomorrow. Wright is looks like a really good player.
(01:45:01):
They've got some guys here, just gonna take some time
to develop this for OV.
Speaker 1 (01:45:04):
Oh yeah, sure you know. And like I said, that
kind of play right there. They what they're looking to
do is just get the ball quickly out to these
guys in space. But oak Ridge has done such a
good job tackling in the open field against lesser opponents,
they're gonna break some of those for big plays.
Speaker 2 (01:45:20):
So it's a six year game out to the forty five.
It'll be second down in the game. Is the Matthews
over left tackle. He broke one, but not the second.
Preston six makes the tackle just short of the stick,
so it'll be third down and short for OV.
Speaker 1 (01:45:34):
Yeah. Preston six, that's the name we've been saying all
night long, from the very beginning, and he made a
good play there. It looks like he might be checking out.
His work might be done for the night here with
less than four minutes to go.
Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
Wow, pretty good work by Preston, the junior who saw
a lot of our city action last year as a sophomore.
On third and short, Babbitt with the quick throw to
tomorrow right that is caught right. It's got a first
down into Oakridge territory at the forty seven tackle made
by Jojo White for the Eagles. We also see number
seventy five Mitchell Johnson, another sophomore in there for Oakridge,
as well as number thirteen Brad Humphrey, a senior in
(01:46:08):
at linebacker. Twenty one for the Eagles. Aiden Russak out
there first and ten Ov on the okrege forty seven
Babbitt straight back to pass look like a screen as
three defensive lineman broke through. Babbitt keeps the play alive
and now runs left and he's gonna gain about five.
He's inside the forty five to about the forty two
yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
Yeah, nice open field tackle there, But there by Cale Douglass,
the sawiebacker or defensive back, was able to bring a
Babbitt down in the open field and prevent a really
big game.
Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
We're inside of three minutes to trying to go quickly here.
But now Babbitt's got to look to the sidelines to
get the play. Two minutes forty eight seconds to go.
Babbitt straight back to pass, wants to go deep looking
for Villa. Reality's got him but incomplete. Couldn't quite haul
it in at the ten yard line and it'll be.
Speaker 1 (01:47:01):
I got a scoring update here on the rapid radio scoreboard.
All night long. North Muskegan's been leading that game at
Palomo seven to nothing. But latest report, Palamo on the
board and a two point conversion. So in the fourth
quarter it's Palama Westvalia eight, North Muskegan seven.
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
Great game out there in Ionia County. Two thirteen to
play in the game now, clock running over. Orchard View
has the football at the Oakridge forty three yard line.
Babbitt in the shotgun with Van Matthews to his right.
Theeley goes in motion. They fake the give to Thelly
on the jet bait. Babbitt runs up the middle. He's
got a first down. He's down to about the thirty
(01:47:41):
yard line before Cale Douglas makes the tackle. But it's
thirteen yards and a first down for orchard View.
Speaker 1 (01:47:51):
Let's see about the only drama left here. Jay is
ken olv score again. Here. There's a less than two
minutes to go, but I'm sure they're going to try
to Peyton babbittt has a running touchdown of seventy five yards. See,
maybe you'll try to get one through the air.
Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
First down, quick pass out to Villarrealit it is incomplete.
Don't forget to check out the Trinity Health High School

and Woodradio dot Com. It's powered by Trinity Health improving
our communities by going beyond our hospital walls. We will
be able to hear the call of this game on
the Trinity Health High School Football page starting tomorrow. I'm
gonna throw on second down. He's got it complete to
Demori right right inside the twenty five to about the
(01:48:51):
twenty two. He's gonna be about a yard shy of
a first down. It'll bring up third and short. We
have forty seconds to go. With a running clock, we
might have two more plays. Orchard View twenty two yards
away from the en zone, Babbitt straight back to pass.
He's gonna go to the end zone looking for.
Speaker 1 (01:49:06):
Tomorrow right incomplete inference.
Speaker 2 (01:49:09):
Yeah, flag, yep. The defensive back for Oakridge wasn't playing
the football. I gotta get your head turned around. So
the clock does stop on a penalty flag with twenty
three seconds to go.
Speaker 1 (01:49:22):
Yeah, that was that was pretty clearly like you say,
pass interference. He wasn't playing the ball. He was just
pushing and holding on to the receiver. So Orchard Wu's
gonna get another chance to again get on the scoreboard again.
They were shut out until early in the fourth quarter
a seventy five yard run by Peyton Babbitt, and although
in the first half they did have two great chances
(01:49:44):
to score, couldn't cash in on either of them.
Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
Well, and that's huge in this game, right, It's twenty
nothing at the half and Orchard View had the ball
inside the five twice and got zero points out of it.
I mean, if you're talking about twenty eight fourteen game
at the half, I think it's a little bit different ballgame,
that's right.
Speaker 1 (01:49:58):
It could have been a cold been much more interesting,
that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:50:02):
So first down and ten balling the thirteen yard line
of Babbitt gonna pass looking to the end zone and
it's gonna be intercepted, but we have a flag. There
is a flag in the end zone. The pass was
intercepted by Parker Williamson. But I believe we're gonna get
another pass interference called oak Ridge and we are and
so orcharbu is gonna get another offensive play?
Speaker 1 (01:50:21):
All right? Well, that uh that interception there, that was
Parker Williamson. You said who made that interception? It was, Yeah,
that's gonna be uh. Is it a nice play for him?
He'll remember it forever. But statistically it's gonna be taken
off the board by the UH pass interference call and
UH get at least one more play on.
Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
The rapid radio scoreboard. Leading Montague forty two to seven
at the end of the third quarter, fifteen seconds left
in our game here and Babbitt's gonna roll right from
the seven passes deflected and incomplete. Was trying to get
it out there to fee on the running clock. That's
gonna be the final play of the game. The final
(01:51:02):
seconds will tick off.
Speaker 1 (01:51:06):
There's one second left on the clock. I don't know
why there it is the will.
Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
Score Oakridge forty two orchard View six. We'll come back
with the Schaeffer Schwartz PLC postgame show after this. You
are listening to the LMCU Lake seven m Us the Mouse.
(01:51:36):
This is the Schaefer Schwartz PLC postgame show. If you've
been injured in an auto accident, make sure you have
David she side. David Shaffer born and raised them Skiing
County and proud to be a supporter of high school football.
Our final score Oakridge forty two orchard View six. Impressive
performance tonight from the Eagles time.
Speaker 1 (01:51:55):
Kendra, Oh, no question about it. Right from the very
start of this game, from that opening kick off return
from Jaden Daily right to the end of the game
when they again prevented orchard View from getting into the
end zone. Three times orchard View got inside the red
zone inside the ten yard line, and all three they
were turned away. So you know, Oakridge offensively, the offensive
(01:52:18):
line dominated, and defensively, I was equally asked with their
athletic ability whole field. So yeah, this oak Ridge team,
I'm they made a statement tonight and I think they're
gonna be in the running for that division title.
Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
Let's take a look at our Drive of the Game,
presented by Beton Chevrolet Cadillac GMC buck in Miskegan, the
GM Giant visit both sides of Henry Street today. Tom,
what do you got for the Beton Chevrolet Cadillac GMC
Drive of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:52:48):
Well, we certainly had a lot to choose from on
the Oakridge. The thing six touchdown drives. A lot of
them were real quick, like one play type drives. I
guess the closest thing maybe they had to a real
long scoring drive was their fourth touchdown drive of the game.
That was the one that made it twenty eight to
nothing at halftime. On this one, they took over at
(01:53:09):
the twenty yard line. Nine plays, eighty yards all on
the ground, and it was finally capped by who else
but Bryson Stevenson, the senior workhorse running back for oak Ridge,
went thirty eight yards for the score. The extra point
was was good bye Eduardo well Aldretti and yeah, with
(01:53:34):
four twenty eight left in the half, that drive made
it twenty eight to nothing. We're gonna make that our
Drive of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:53:42):
Drive of the Game presented by Bett and Chevrolet Cadillac
gmc buick in Miskegan. All right, let's take a look
at some of the final numbers from tonight's contest and
a forty two to six hGe win over Orchard View.
Speaker 1 (01:53:53):
Oh yeah, it looks like I'm getting my stats mixed
up here between the oh, here we go. This is
the you know, the you look at the total yardage
on the game, it actually ended up being not as
lapsided as you would think. Oakridge three hundred and fifty
three total yards OV two hundred and fifty nine, So
they actually, you know, OV did move the ball at times,
(01:54:15):
just unable to punch it into the end zone. But
the rushing yards forty four rushes for Oakridge three hundred
and forty seven yards OV seventeen rushes for one oh six.
The only thing, the mystery we still don't know is
Logan Houston, the junior quarterback. We don't know if he
can throw the ball or not, because he only threw
two passes all game long, one of two for six yards,
(01:54:39):
so you know, he's six four can he throw it?
And we'll probably find out next week. Whitehall, I'm sure
might force him to the air a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:54:48):
This is the Shaefer Schwartz PLC postgame show. We're hi
come back with more, including our player of the game
and our play of the game. You were listening to
the MCU Lake Shore Game of the weekend one oh
seven mus the Moose. We're back on the Schaefer Schwartz
PLC postgame Show where oak Ridge dominates Orchard viewed tonight
(01:55:10):
forty two to six the final behind five rushing touchdowns
from senior Bryson Stevenson. So we kind of taking the
drama out of it a little bit, Tom Kendra, But
our Blue Water Cabinet Tree and Design Player of the.
Speaker 1 (01:55:23):
Game is is number two, the senior for Oakridge, Bryson
Stevenson six two one ninety. Really both sides of the ball,
Jason Hutton. We talked about offensively fourteen carries, one hundred
and ninety four yards, an average of fourteen yards of carry,
five touchdowns, but then he was equally impressive defensively, just
(01:55:43):
only credited four tackles here, but he was part of
that secondary that didn't let this the athletes of OV
do much of anything. So uh yeah, Bryson Stevenson very impressive.
Both sides of the ball will make him the Bluewater Cabinet,
Tree and Design Player of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:56:00):
Blue Water Cabinetry and Design, the Lakeshore's trusted kitchen and
bath provider, is proud to be a supporter of high
school football. Oakridge over Orchard View tonight forty two to six,
the final time now for the mister Bees Pancake House
play of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:56:16):
All right, and there's a you know, many candidates obviously
on the oak Ridge side. But the longest touchdown score
of the night came early in the fourth quarter there
and it came from OV. They're a very talented, very
impressive junior quarterback, Peyton Babbitt, breaking through on the right
through the right side of the line, right along the
home sideline seventy five yards for the only score of
(01:56:38):
the night for OV and Peyton Babbitt there on the
night he ended up actually with some pretty decent numbers.
Let me take a look here if I can find
where they ran off to. Here they are Peyton Babbitt
twelve carries for one hundred yards, so he hit the
one hundred yard mark and passing twelve of twenty eight
for one hundred and fifty three yards. But that run
(01:57:00):
seventy five yards. We'll make that our Mister Bees Pancake
House Play of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:57:03):
Mister Bees Pancake House Play the game. Mister Bees Pancake
House is celebrating fifty years of serving the Muskegon area.
A couple more scores that we have finals coming in
now from around the area. Forest Hill's Eastern defeats Montague
tonight forty eight to seven. The final forest Hill Central
twenty one to ten over Reese Puffer. Our Lake Shore
(01:57:23):
Spotlight Game of the Week Spring Lake takes down rival
Fruitport forty to seven. The final score. Last update we
had in the fourth quarter, pemo Asphelia was leading North
Muskegan eight to seven, and last we had heard Mona
Shores was leading Grand Blanc fourteen to seven.
Speaker 1 (01:57:39):
Yeah, and they have twenty eight to fourteen. Actually, Mona
Shores is leading Grand Blanc.
Speaker 2 (01:57:44):
Plenty of more scores coming up on the High School
Scoreboard Show with Rick Burkey. He is standing by in
the studios. But it's been fun Week one of the
high school football season. And in our LMCU Lake Shore
Game of the Week, Oakrige takes down Orchard View tonight
five of forty two to six. Next week, Tom, we
(01:58:06):
go to Carlson Munger Stadium. Rockford's gonna be rocking as
Muskegon comes to town.
Speaker 1 (01:58:11):
Yeah, they took care of cast Tech this week. Robert
looks like a machine. But Muskegan's gonna be out for revenge.
And we'll see what Muskean's able to do tomorrow. But
I'm excited for that one. That's two of the powerhouse
programs in West Michigan and we'll be there.
Speaker 2 (01:58:27):
As we wrap it up tonight. We want to thank
our host athletic Director, mister Leroy Hackley here at orchard View,
one of the absolute best. Always a pleasure to see
mister Hackley when you come out to orchard View taking
care of everybody. Also special thanks to Aaron James, the
head coach at orchard View, for his cooperation helping us
out getting ready for this game tonight, as well as
oak Ridge head coach Carrie Harger as his Eagles make
(01:58:50):
it thirteen straight wins over the rival Cardinals. That's going
to do it tonight from orchard View. Special thanks to
Brian Thomas back in the studio for Brian Rick Burkey
and my partner Tom Kendra. This is Jason Hutton reminding
you the final score Oakridge forty two, orchard View six
