Speaker 1 (00:06):
Spring Lake visits Threes Puffer in Week three of the
high school football season, and it's the Lake Shore game
of the week. Here on one oh seven, m us
the Moose. I'm Jason Hutting alongside Tom Kendra.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Tom. Where were you in nineteen ninety four?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Well, Jason, I think I was probably still trying to
get over the excitement of that Reese Puffer state championship
in nineteen ninety two. While nineteen ninety four, those were
the days of Mike Holmes at Muskegan Catholic Central, Jeck
Sugars at Oakridge, and Dusty Fairfield at Ravanna.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
They won a state title that year.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
And I was at Belding High Schooler Earth Sickler was
leading the then Redskins to two state championships, including in
nineteen ninety four. I was the backup quarterback on the
freshman team that season. We look at this matchup, We've
got spring Lake coming in one to one and the
Rockets of Reese Puffer are and two. When we look
at the visitors from spring Lake, they fall last week
(00:56):
at Redness Field two Belding forty seven to twenty two.
At some turnoversues in the first half, fell behind big.
But we know for them to get back on track,
it all starts with their ability to run the football.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Absolutely, that's something that they hang their hat on. Cody
Mallory running that flexbone offense, and you know he's got
a experienced senior quarterback in Reed Grimmer, but he wants
to establish the run and then use that play action
pass with Grimmer.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
So that's going to be something to watch here.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Can they move the ball on the ground like they
did against fruit Port and really weren't able to do
consistently last week at Belding.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
As for the home standing Rockets, still looking for the
first win on the young season. They've played two very
good teams Forest Hills Central defending state champion Week one,
Caledonia here at Rocket Stadium last week they're row and two.
They played two very good defenses, but they have to
get that offense going to have success tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
You're absolutely right. The defense has been outstanding. The offense
is stuck in the mud, so to speak. I'm just
noticing here, Jason, we got some Reese Puffer royalty. Dan
Beckman was up here, Paul Sambida and the new basketball
coach J R. Wallace just walked by in the hallway.
So maybe all these great Rockets will be a good
(02:09):
luck for the team because they're owing to two tough
games to start the season against Forest Hills Central and
then Caledonia. But you know, you look at the games
that ree Buffer still has to play Jay, They still
have to play Miskeig and Mona Shores Byron Center. Those
are all tough games. Forest Hill's Eastern is on the schedule.
So there, I think we're gonna see a desperate Rocket
team tonight. They're gonna throw everything they have at spring
(02:32):
Lake to try to get in the wind column.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Divisional play starts in the OK Conference next week. Reece
Puffer will be here at home to open it while
spring Lake goes to West Catholic. This is the Lasco
Services pregame show Lasco Services Plumbing, drain, HVAC experts at
your service. Lasco has unsurpassed customer service since nineteen ninety nine.
(02:56):
The right team to handle residential or commercial plumbing and
HVAC needs call two three, one, six, seven, four, eleven
seventy six to request a same day appointment in the
Miscegan area. Still to come on the Lasco Services pregame show.
We're gonna check the keys to the contest starting lineups,
and when we come back, we'll take a look around
the Lake Short some other key games happening tonight. This
is the LMCU Lake Short game of the week on
(03:17):
one oh seven m us the Moves. The date was
October fourteenth, nineteen ninety four. Reese Buffer beats Spring Lake
forty two to nothing in a seaway conference game. The
Lakers and Rockets haven't played since, but that changes in
just about twenty minutes. Jason Hutton and Tom Kendra live
(03:39):
at Rocket Stadium in Rocket City and Tom this is
just one of many games going on throughout the area tonight.
Over on ninety six one the game Bret Pikita, Buck
Gino have Granville at Rockford and the ok Red opener.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Of course, Bulldogs come.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
In oh and two but a very very good winless
team and the Rams come in two and oh winners
of thirty four executive regular season games. The Mi Skeigon
Big Reds do not have a game tonight. Struggling to
fill out the schedule with two extra non league showdowns
to fill out, couldn't do it for Week three, so
they'll be off until they host for Stills Northern next
week for homecoming, and they're ok green opener Mona Shores
(04:14):
another trip to the east side of the state. The
Sailors have already gone to Graham Blancin one and River
Rougion one. Tonight they're at two and oh Flint Hammity
in Flint West. Ottawa was at Grand Haven to kick
offf OK red play and Zealand West at Whitehall non
conference game. John Hard is there for us. That's our
Lake Shore Spotlight game. We'll see Whitehall next week when
(04:36):
they take on rival Montagum.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
I'm really excited about that matchup next week, especially after
Montague with a huge win last week over oak Ridge.
That really got my attention. I was really impressed with
oak Ridge and that opener we saw at orchard View.
I thought, you know, they're really big upfront. They got
a couple of nice running backs and Bryson Stevenson and
Bryce Bisson.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
I was impressed.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
And to have Mona you be able to match them
physically and get that win. I look at Montague to
be able to win tonight of orchard View. There'll be
two and one going into that huge battle for the
Bell next week at Whitehall. It's been a while since
they've beaten Whitehall. Could this be the year they do it?
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
The other West Michigan Conference Lakes Division battles tonight. Oakridge
is at Man of Stee and Luddington is at Freemont.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
But what about the Rivers Division?
Speaker 1 (05:25):
And we think two time defending champion North Muskegan is
the team to beat, but still very early.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
North Miskegan at home and I take on this too.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Spartans of Mason County Central, Shelby's at Heart and Hissperia's at.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
White cumb Yeah, Mason County Central is always one of
those teams that you figure one of these years they're
going to break through and have Maybe it's this year.
David Smith the coach there, he's a former player and
coach at Ravanna. He's now up at Mason County Central.
But the Bulldogs that's a team that I am watching.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Ravanna.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
They're really big upfront this year. They got a nice
win last week over Heart. You know, Heart was the
surprise team in that league last year. But Ravanna could
be the team that challenges North Mskegan. I think Rabana's
got the size. North Muskegan has the athletes. I think
those two teams that's going to be the battle for
that division.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Justin egos team is two and oh.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
They got a four feit win over Holton in the
game that was scheduled to be played tonight, So the
Bulldogs go to two and oh. In West Michigan Conference,
Rivers Division play two and one. Overall other games going
on tonight the Battle for m thirty seven. One of
my favorite games of the year. Time Grant at in Awago,
big rivalry there. Throw the records out. The Lions are
two and oh, Grant's one to one, Kent City at
(06:34):
one on one goes to Lakeview, the Wildcats rowe and two,
and then Miskegan Catholic Central is at home. Tonight's take
on Benton Harbor. Somebody will get their first win of
the season. This is the Lasco Services pregame show still
to come. Tom goes one on one with Spring Lake
Head coach Cody Mallory and we have Tonight's Keys to
the Contest.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
That's when the pregame show returns.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
After this on the Lake Shore Game of the Week
brought to you by LMCU one oh seven us the Moose,
Spring Lake and said's take on Reese Puffer in the
LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week. Here on one
oh seven m us the Moose, the Lakers, one and
one on the young season the Rockets, Oh and to
(07:16):
this the third non conference battle for each team before
they head into Okay Conference Divisional play starting next Friday night.
For Cody Mallory and his spring Lake team, they're trying
to bounce back from their first loss of the season
last week. Earlier this week, Tom Kendrick had a chance
to talk with head coach Cody Mallory.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
You were here with the third year of Spring Lake
coach Cody Mallory here in the coaches Corner as a
preview for our Lake Shore High School game of the
Week Spring Lake at Reese Puffer, a non conference game.
And Coach, I think it's safe to say you've had
an up and down start this year, obviously two very
different opponents. Big win over Fruitport and then kind of
a lopsided loss at Belding. What was the difference in
(07:56):
your team do you think between week one and week two?
Speaker 5 (07:59):
I think that's it was a if it could go wrong.
It did early in the building game. They came out
much improved.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
From their week one week one performance.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
You know, they've got a great coaching staff and they
had a great plan, and we've made a couple of
big mistakes very early in the game and it was
just difficult to recover from that point.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Okay, now you're known as kind of a guru of
the flexbone offense. You could probably talk about it for hours.
I've seen some of your youtubes, but just quickly tell
us briefly about the offense that you run and why
you think it's a good fit here at Spring Lake.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (08:36):
Well, first, guru is a strong word.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
I just I just like the offense and been running
for a little bit.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
You know.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
The big the big thing with with what we do
and why we like it is because you know.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
The flexbone is is it's flexible based on the talent
that you have, and so you know, we're not relying
on having to have big offensive lineman year in year out,
or a quarterback that can throw it really well year
in year out. It's really a an offense that is
team first. You know, we never really know who's going
to have a big night just based on how the
defense decides to play us. And you know, I think
(09:09):
it's it's very good at all levels, and so it
helps us develop tell talent as they come up through
the program and we're able to really hone in on that,
you know, much like you see with a lot of
the power tee teams, they start running it early and
then by the time they get up to the Varsita level,
they're running it really well.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Now a lot of people are going to be seeing you,
maybe hearing you for the first time this week at
Reese Puffer. Who are some of the offensive leaders of
this team.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Yeah, you know, I really like the three guys that
we've got coming back on the offensive line. Carson Heinez center,
he's a three year starter for US, Tag Kelly at tackle,
and Ethan Listman also tackle. Those three guys really really
get a lot.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
Of stuff done for US.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
Rie Grimmer, the quarterback he's been starting first for the
past three years, runs the offense really well and also
throws it well, so you know, it really opens up
some things for us.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
We threw for almost two hundred yards the other week.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
The week before, you know, we didn't throw much and
so we don't really get to expose his level of
talent every week, but you know he's he's a great one.
And then you know receiver Landon O'Donnell, a junior, he's
also our backup quarterback, is really solid player. And our
a backs Gabe Trask and Alex Backa and then Daryl Lawrence,
(10:22):
a fullback. I mean, all those guys are you know,
any night, you know, one of those guys is gonna
have a good night. And so, just like I said earlier,
it's just depending on how the defense decides to play us, all.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Right, And then talking about the defensive side of the ball,
you guys obviously gave.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
Up too many points last week.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
What do you guys need to do defensively against breeze
puffer to come away with the win?
Speaker 6 (10:42):
Well, not turn the ball over deep in our own end.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
I mean we did that three times the other night
and and really did nothing to help our defense in
that regard. You know, for us, you know, we just
need to make sure that we're good on our key reads.
You got to make sure that we played the perimeter. Well,
They've got some guys that that can run and move
in space.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
We just need to make sure we don't get allow
them to get loose.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
You know, I really like what we've been getting out
of our two linebackers, owning Oliver Smee's the twin brothers.
They starred for us there last year and they've just
picked up where they left off. And Alex back in
the defensive secondary has been doing a great job for
us too. You know, all those guys they just need
to you know, hone back in. This is a different
style of offense than we saw last week and a
little bit more in the tradition that we you know,
(11:26):
we're kind of suited to defend.
Speaker 7 (11:29):
All right, this is Tom Kender.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
We're in the coaches corner here with Cody Mallory in
his third year here at spring Lake, had some great
success up in Cadillac, played in the Division four state
championship game back in twenty twenty. I'm just curious about
how this game came about. We're excited about it. It's
an old seaway conference matchup getting these two schools back together,
but I give you credit for scheduling it a bigger
school against rhes Buffer.
Speaker 7 (11:51):
I'm just wondering how how this game came about.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
Well, you know, with all the transition in the leagues
and everything. I was.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
I was pretty excited that we got put into a
sixteen league because then it allows us to do stuff
like this and get creative in our in our non
conference scheduling.
Speaker 6 (12:07):
And you know, they had an opening, We had an opening.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
And I thought, you know, we need to you know,
play up and get pressed a little bit, and you know,
just we just Cody and I got together and we
just made it happen.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
And so just really excited that, uh, we're able to
get it done.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
Great.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
And then finally, coach, what are one or two main
keys do you think for your team coming into this
week to try to get your second win of the season.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
We just have to play clean football, you know, make
sure that we have good ball security, that we're not
turning it over deep in our own end defensively. Just
need to make sure that we're on point with our
alignment and our keys and and just let it roll.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
All right.
Speaker 7 (12:46):
Thank you, coach, good luck Friday night.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
I thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Each and every week, the Coaches Corner Interview with Tom
Kendra is presented presented by Factory Surplus Sales. Factory Surplus
is located in Montague where you can get brand name
clothing at a budget price. And we'll be up in
factory surf plus sales territory next Friday night when Montague.
Actually the game's in Whitehall, but it's still very close.
(13:13):
Whitehall host Montague in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Lakes.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Division rivalry game.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
We're about nine minutes away from kickoff here in Rocket City,
Reese Puffer hosting Spring Lake. We'll have plenty more coming
up on the Lasco Services pregame show, including tonight's Keys
to Victory. Right after this time out, you were listening
to the Lake Shore Game of the Week on LMC
on one oh seven m us.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
They move.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Every year from nineteen sixty five to nineteen ninety four,
Spring Lake and Reese Puffer locked horns and high school
football as part of the Seaway Conference, the Rockets coming
out victorious in eighteen of those, the Lakers ten, of course,
two unforgettable ties in the nineteen sixties. Jason, along with
Tom Kendras, renew this rivalry thirty years later. Tom, let's
(14:03):
look at our Vanderlawn Home Improvement keys to the Game
tonight for each team.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Let's start with the visitors from Springlake.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Well, I think for spring Lake, you know, I'm looking
at their senior quarterback, three year starter, Reed Grimmer.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
I think he's a real key to this game. You know,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
I don't think spring Lake's gonna be able just to
line up and run it down the throat of Reeze Poffer.
I think Reeze Puffer is too good, too big to
do that. I think in order for spring Lake to
move the ball, they're gonna have to throw it. And
we know that Reed Grimmer has a strong arm. He's
a three year starter, and he can do it. I
think the key to the game for spring Lake will
be his performance.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
We were just talking during the break.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
It's a basically a pretty calm night out here, great temperature,
you know, obviously no rain.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
It's a great night to throw the ball.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
I think for spring Lake to win, Reed Grimmer is
gonna have to throw it and throw it.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Well, I agree with that. They're gonna have to have
some balance.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Always key in these type of football games, and for me,
it's turnovers. I mean, that's gonna be a turnover a
key for each team. But spring Lake wins the turnover
battle in Week one against Fruitport. They win the football
game going away last week, they lose the turnover battle
and they lose the game to Building. Spring Lake has
got to win the turnover battle tonight to come out
victorious against Reese Puffer. And that will be easy because
(15:16):
Reez Puffer has been very good on defense through two weeks.
But spring Lake's gonna have to force some turnovers when
they're on defense as well. For Reese Puffer's cod Cator's
crew looks for it's first win and this young season,
what's key to the victory tonight time.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
I'm watching the guys in the tre trenches Jason for.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Ree Puffer tonight.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
They've had two real tough, physical games against Forest Hill
Central in Caledonia, but they have two losses. But what
did they gain out of those games games? I think
they learned how to be tough and how to play tough.
I think they have a little edge up front overall tonight,
and I think they need to use that and grind out.
I'm talking three three yards and a cloud of dust
(15:57):
kind of thing we mentioned earlier. These are two of
the seems like two of the remaining teams in our
area that play on grass fields. I think Cody Cateror
is going to be looking for an old fashioned, grinded
out kind of game with Mason Dark junior quarterback, keeping
the ball on runs Bryce Muskevin, the sophomore Speeds are
running the ball. So I think the key for Reese
(16:18):
Puffer is going to be in the trenches, specifically that
offensive line. We got the center Nathan Dollaway that guards
Javon Plummer and Noah Sapone, and the tackles Cooper keon
In and Ben Adams. Those are the guys I'm watching for.
I think that's a real key for the Rockets.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Ben Adams are right tackle, a returning All Conference performer
for Reese Puffer. Last year in The Okay Green we
talked about the thirty years these two schools spent together
in the Seaway Conference, the Lakers winning seven conference titles
over that span, the most recent coming in nineteen eighty three.
For the Rockets, they won seventeen conference titles in the
(16:55):
Seaway Conference. They were the kings of that conference back
in its day, but nineteen ninety seven, the last year
of the Seaway Conference, the last time that Reeese Puffer
has won a conference title in football, So it's been
twenty seven years. Of course, this is not a conference
game anymore tonight. It's a non league battle, as each
team is in a separate division in the Okay Conference
(17:17):
and they will begin division play next week, with spring
Lake going to West Catholic to open Okay White play.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Reez Puffer will stay home.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
It's part of a four game homestand this game two
of four game homestand is Grand Rapids Union comes to
Rocket Stadium. We are counting down to kickoff on the
Lasco Services pregame show. This is the LMCU Lake Shore
Game of the Week on one oh seven. M us
the Moose and we'll be right back with more after this.
(17:47):
Jason Utting and Tom Kendra back at Rocket Stadium. Spring
Lake and Reese Puffer getting set to do battle in
week three of the high school football season. The Lakers
one and one on the season and the Rockets oh
and two. Tom, We're just moments from our national anthem.
The Lakers are going to be dressed in all white
with their silver helmets, red numbers. Spring Lake in the
(18:08):
all greens with white helmets, white numbers on the all
green jerseys. As the Rockets take the field, much to
the light of the home crowd here at ree s Buffer.
You look at Mason dark the junior quarterback for Reeese Buffer,
dual threat, right, I mean he can do it running
and throwing. What do we want to see from him tonight?
If Ree Scuffer's gonna have a good night.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Well, he needs to take care of the ball.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Three interceptions last week against Caledonia really killers in that game.
He's got to avoid the turnovers. But you know, it's
an interesting matchup. A couple things that struck me. It's
a battle of the coaching Cody's you know, Cody cater
for Reese Puffer, Cody Mallory for spring Lake. Both young coaches.
They're both in their third year, and they're both desperate
(18:51):
for wins because, like I said, mentioned a little bit earlier,
some tough league games ahead. So this is I think
this is going to be a great game because they
both see it as a must win in their own way.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
I agree, should be a fun game here tonight. Thirty
years in the making, this non divisional battle in the
Okay Conference between spring Lake and Reese Pufferrie Grimmer, the
starting quarterback for spring Lake, a three year varsity player,
started for the Lakers two years ago in Cody Mallory's first
season as head coach as a sophomore. Then last year
(19:26):
helped lead the Lakers to the playoffs before they lost
that game to Big Rapids. Or of course, he suffered
a broken leg in the middle of that game. So
we're just moments away from kickoff here, let's listen in
to our national anthem here at Rocket Stadium.
Speaker 8 (19:41):
And everyone that is able, please face the south end
of our stadium, standing in attention, placing your hand over
your heart as our band proudly performs our national.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
Anthem the.
Speaker 9 (20:03):
Nation.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
I maybe he's a gentleman out of your mind. He's run,
especially on a.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
Spring League guest.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Breeze Pluffer has won the toss tonight and deferred their
choice to the second half. So Spring Lake is going
to get the football to start this game. Senior fullback
Darryl Lawrence fourteen carries ninety yards and a touchdown in
last week's game against Belding. He ran for one hundred
and thirty four and two scores in the Week one
win against rival fruit Board. Alex Baca and Gabe Trask,
(21:47):
our senior a bax as coach Mallory calls them in
their flex bone offense. The offensive line for the Lakers
consists of Tag Kelly at left tackle. The number of
the senior wears number fifty, Jacob Trost, sophomore where's number
seventy five as the left guard. Carson Hine, a senior
wearing number fifty two, will be the spring Lake center.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
He's committed to the Grand Valley State.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Brady Hill number seventy two, will be the right guard,
and Ethan Lissman, a senior number seventy one, will be
the right tackle for the Lakers. The Reese puffer on
defense will go with Nathan Dollaway, the big senior number
seventy eight at nose tackle. Javon Plummer number fifty two,
and Noah Suppone number seventy excuse me, and Ben Adams
number seventy seven will be the defensive ends. The inside
(22:28):
linebackers are Sage Seacrest number ten a senior and junior
number twenty two Cal Millis. They're outside linebackers will be
Elliott Schneider number twenty eight a junior and Sam Hilling
number six. Their corners are Marvin Moore at junior wears
number twelve and freshman number twenty three Cole Piper. The
safeties will be senior number two Ethan Muskovin and Sean Haley,
who will wear number eleven, number ten Owen Ritz. Some
(22:51):
of the junior kicker is going to kick it away
for the Rockets, as Batca number forty as well as
Chase Segar wait back at their own ten yard line.
As we're ready to get week three of high school
football season underway, Tom.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Temper, Yeah, I'm excited for this one.
Speaker 8 (23:07):
Jay.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
You gotta love it here natural grass. We were talking
in September. The field looks great, a little bit beat up,
but I still love a nice game on the grass. Here,
perfect conditions, and here we go.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
The boot is in the air and it will bounce
and go oh nearly out of bounds, and spring Lake
was able to fall in at to twenty five. So
that is where the Lakers will go to work. Heads
up play by Landon O'Donnell. It did appear like it
was gonna bounce out of bounds, but it didn't. O'Donnell
able to fall in, so spring Like will go to work.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
You're right if he doesn't fall on it. Right there,
Reez Puffer could have swooped in and done it. It
was the ball just stayed right in bounds, barely heads
up play by O'Donnell, and now spring Lake can get
started here on offense.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
So we'll see that flexbone offense for the Lakers as
Lawrence lines up behind Reed Grimmer who will be under center.
Segar is in it wide receiver and is split to
the wide side left.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Back.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
It goes in motion, but the Lakers are gonna check
with the sideline and Cody Mally is gonna call into
play after seeing the way the Reepuffer defense lines up
in their three to four base defense and give a
go to Lawrence over right tackle. He has stood up
and going nowhere. Looked like Sam Hillen was the first
to get there for the Rockets, and it's gonna bring
up a second down and long situation.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
That's one thing that has been a certain for Reese Puffer.
Their defense through the first two games has been very,
very good. It's the offense which is holding it back.
And you saw right there a great job by that
left side of the defensive line. Nowhere for the running
back to go.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
So we're just thirty seconds in, no score, here. Second
down and nine for the Lakers bond their own twenty
six yard line after a one yard gain from Lawrence
so Donald has split to the wide side right as
Segar stays in the game is short side left. It's
Trask in motion this time, but once again they're gonna
give it to Lawrence over the right side.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
This time he gets maybe two, but it's gonna be
third and long.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
Wow that time.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Cal millis the little undersize number twenty two, the linebacker
for Reese. Puffer knifed in and got him after just
a two yard gain. But this respuffer defense, you look
at it. Nathan Dollaway in the middle there, number seventy eight.
He's a big boy. Jay takes up a lot of space.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
In the middle. Plugged it up that time.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
While Delaway goes both ways.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
He's the starting center on offense, we'll see junior number
sixty six Gus poolhosts Seagal check in it nose tackle
here in this passing situation, third and seven for the
twenty eight Trask in motion, Grimmer straight back to throw
with time good, Baldo o' donald complete for a first down.
Sean Haley able to make the tackle, but not before
nine yards and the Lakers moved the chains out to
(25:45):
the thirty seven yard line and a big third down
conversion early for spring Lake to give their offense and confidence.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
No question about it there.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
And how about reed Grimmer completing his first pass, just
an easy little flip flip pass out there to land
An O'donnald, the backup quarterback. But I think that was
a really big play. They didn't want to go three
and out and have to give the ball right away
to ree Puffer. They got a fresh set of downs,
so this time.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Trask will be in motion as Bacca is split out
into the slot to the left. But we've got a
whistle and some early movement laying on the looks like
Reez Puffer was off side, so that I'll move it
out over the forty out to the forty two yard line.
Bring up first and five.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
You know, Reece Puffer has to be disciplined, Jason. On
this flexbone offense, there's a lot of standing up and
moving around and the guys in motion, they have to
be disciplined and not jump like they did that time.
Making it first in five. What a great situation here
for the Lakers. So first in five of the forty
two once again, and they'll give his gonna be on
(26:51):
the option to the right. It's Trask and he has
hit and dropped number two too. Ethan Muskvin made the
tackle to.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Run.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
They faked to dive that time to Lawrence and ran
the option right, but Reese Puffer all over it.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Yes, that was a classic triple option play. Actually well
executed by the spring Lake offense, but great positional defense
there by the Ree Puffer Rockets. Paul Sambida helping out
with the defense this year. Ethan Muskovin was in perfect
position and just a one yard game there.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Musket a senior who wears number two, will also play
slot receiver on offense when the Rockets get the football.
But right now, ball control for spring Lake. They've had
it for the first three minutes of this game. They
moved it out to the forty three yard line, their
own forty three. It's second down in four back in motion.
The give us to Lawrence right up the middle. Javon
Plumber took him down before he could get back to
line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
But we have a penalty flag. It's either going to
be in a legal formation.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Looks like it'll be an a legal formation called against
spring Lake and they're going to have given the five
yards back unless can cod Cater decline it.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Yeah, I would think you would have the option to decline.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I year, so instead of third and five, it'll be
second and nine as the Rockets will accept the penalty.
Welling back to the thirty seven, make it second and ten.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Well. I said in my Keys to the Game, Jason
that upfront was gonna be one of the keys for
Reese Puffer, and so far in the first three minutes
of this game, Reeze Puffer dominating on the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
And we've seen just the one pass from spring Lake.
It was complete, a nine yard completion from Reee Grimmer
to Landon O'Donnell. And on second down, Grimmer was back
to pass the javan Plumber came through the line and
takes down Grimmer for a sack back inside the twenty
five yard line.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
It'll be third and very long for Springlake.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Wow, that's back to back big plays by Javon Plumber.
The last play he just stuffed the run for a
one yard loss. And on that play, I don't know
nobody blocked him. It looked like he just ran right
up the middle and he did pretty good athletic ability.
Grimmer could not get away from him, and Javon Plumber,
the senior defensive tackle, makes the game's first big play.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
There make it third and a mile for spring Lake.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
The spot it at the twenty five time. What play
call do you have for third and twenty two.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Let's see how far Reed Grimmer can throw the ball.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Seegar has split out to the wide side right, Lawrence
behind Grimmer, who's under center.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Badka in motion and gets the pitch on the triple option.
Running left.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
He gets out of a tackle from Millis, but not
out of margin. More It'll be a game of a
yard and fourth and twenty.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
One and a certain punning situation for the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Great defensive series there for spring Lake that time Millis
with Cal Millis with a great play. It looks like
he's kind of stepping up to fill that role that
Cayden Bulldock played last year. If you remember, one of
the great seniors, Reees Puffery had a great senior class,
lost so much talent and they're looking to fill it.
Cale Millis is doing it on the defensive side of
(30:03):
the ball.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
So in a puffer spring Lake is senior Hayden roll
back deep are Ethan Muskvin and Marvin Moore waiting at
their own thirty five yard line. But it's a short
punt at all. Bounce just into Reese Puffer territory and
take a laker role to the forty one yard line,
and that's where the Rockets will go to work. With
seven to eleven to play first quarter, we'll see Mason
Dark and his offensive unit for the first time tonight.
(30:27):
Dark the junior quarterback who started on varsity last year
as a sophomore at Montague. Sophomore Bryce Muskvin starts in
the backfield. The wide receivers our senior Luke Johnson, who
returned to kick for a touchdown last week against Caledonia,
Senior Ethan Muskvin at slot, and sophomore Connor McManus number seven.
The offensive line is Cooper Cahonan at left tackle, Ben
(30:49):
Adams at right tackle, Noah Sappone is left guard, Javon
Plummer right guard, and Nathan Dollaway at center. Sh Seacrest
starts at tight end for Reeve Puffer. Will actually see
number five Luke Johnson lined up tight here on this
first down play from the forty one yard line. Marvin
Moore on the field, goes in motion, gets to carry
around the right side, cuts him back at the forty
(31:10):
five and stays on his feet close to midfield.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Nice hard run by Marvin Moore. Look like number thirty.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Charlie Recor came up from his safety spot to make
the tackle for spring Lake. Brady Hill starts at nose
tackle number seventy two. Ethan Listenman number seventy one, and
Tag Kelly number fifty are the ends. The inside linebackers
are the twin brothers, Oliver Smeeths number twenty six and
Owen Smeeths number twenty seven. The outside linebackers are Caleb
Ortis number twenty three and Gabe Trast number two. On
(31:38):
second and three, the give will go to Bryce mus
given right up the middle. He's very close to a
first down and they're gonna give it to him. Give
him two yards to the forty eight yard line, and
Reese Buffer will move the chains. The secondary for the
Lakers is number ten, Chase Seagart corner number three, Hayden
Roll at corner, Caleb excuse me, Charlie Recor at safety
number thirty and Alex backup at safety number nine.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
On that first play, Jay Marvin Moore, he's a had
great basketball player for this Reese Buffer team of junior.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
They got him the ball in motion.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
He got a big gain and then they come back
to that power play up the middle to Muskvin. On
that last play, it looked like there was a hole
out to the right side Ben Adams there creating some space.
Muskevin went inside, but he did get enough to get
the first down.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
So Seacrest is in an h back here, Marvin Moore
is in at slot receiver in place of Ethan Muskevin,
and the gift goes to Bryce Muskevin running to the
left lust going in a little bit of a hole
down to the forty before Oliver Smize makes the tackle
give him six yards to.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
The forty one.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Yeah, nice job there by again the offensive line, that
was the left side of the line. They did the
trap play running over there behind Khonin and Noah's oppone
on the left side. But a nice game so far.
Reees Puffer looks like they're in rhythm. On offense, Jay.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Number sixty two, Ethan Marshall is checked into the game
at defensive end for the Lakers. It'll be second down
and three for the Rockets. Ball just outside the Laker
forty yard line. Fake the give to Ethan Muskavin and
then give it to Bryce Muskevin and he has.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Dropped in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Gabe Trass came in from his outside linebacker spot drops
him three yard loss.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
It'll be third down.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Looked like a little bit of confusion there. Maybe on
that play he barely got that handoff to Muskevin on
that play. But now an interesting position here third and four,
but they're on the spring Lake side of the field.
I could see this might be Mason Dark's first pass
of the night.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Jay credic Cator loves to mix up formations a lot
of eleven personnel last week against Caledonia.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Here he's going four wide, no tight end, and the
pass is gonna be to.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Marvin Moore out to the left side and more is
gonna be able to reach for a first down and
get it down to about the thirty six yard line
and the Rockets.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Will move the chains.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Yeah, Marvin Moore again, I mentioned him earlier. He's a
heck of an athlete. Last year they had a couple
of basketball players playing wide out. If you remember Jackson
Whitaker and Travis Ambrose and this year Marvin Moore. No
for a basketball player playing a key role as a
wide out.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Seacrest back in there on first down and we give
us the morning the jet sweep and he's hitting dropped
in the backfield. He will lose two or maybe three,
look like twenty three. Caleb Ortiz made that play for
the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
Yeah, I was a.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
I love these Smeeze brothers, Oliver and Owen the linebacker
duo for Spring Like these are tough kids. I know
Cody Mallory loves him as well. That time great pursuit
And that time it was Owen who met more in
the backfield.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Kilboardt He's not even on the field for the Lakers
right now. My apologies on that. It was SMEs who
made the play. Here's muskivin. Bryce must give it right
at the middle inside the thirty down to the twenty
nine yard line. That's gonna be about three yard shy
of a first down bring up thirty three for the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
While early impression, Jay rhes Puffer is bigger upfront than
spring Lake is and they're saying, we're gonna run right
at you until you can stop us.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
And so far, Reese Puffer's winning that battle.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Third and three and the give is gonna go to
Bryce must have been up the mill. He's got a
first down to More inside the twenty five, spinning his
way to the twenty two yard line.
Speaker 8 (35:10):
Number twenty must have been barrels over the right side,
brought down by number sixty two Marshall. That played good
for another Rocket first down.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Didn't see a lot of number six Landon O'Donnell on
defense last week for the Lakers, but he's been out
there at that outside linebacker position instead of Ortiz, who
we saw quite a bit for spring Lake. Here first
and ten Reese Puffer. We go inside three minutes to
play first quarter, they'll scrimmage from the Lakers twenty.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Two yard line.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Dark straight back to pass with time now, rolls out
to the left, gonna tuck it in run. He's inside
the twenty side, steps at tackler and hit and dropped
at the fifteen. Recoorp came up to make the play
and will help Dark to his feet. But it's a
seven yard game on first down for the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
That's just such a great weapon to have when you
got a dual threat quarterback like Mason Dark. It was
obviously a pass play, but when he was a flush
out of the pocket a little bit to the left,
there was nobody there. It was just an easy seven
yard run there. And I'm always up the opinion that
when a quarterback when it's there, you might as well
take it.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
And that's what exactly what Mason Dark did right there.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
Elliott Snyder checks into the game for Reez Puffers. Marvin
Moore will come out clock running two minutes ten seconds
to play.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Opening quarter.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
We are scoreless spring Lake at Reese Puffer, the Lakers
punting on their opening possession. The Rockets running their tenth
play of their opening drive. Here, second down in three
at the spring Lake sixteen yard line. We've got a
bunch formation to the right, Seacrest in motion and the
give is to Bryce. Must have been rund the last
Night's got a first down on more. Bryce must have
been at the five and dropped at about the two
(36:43):
yard line. But it's first in goal Reeese Puffer after fourteen.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
More from the sophomore.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Wow, another great play call by Cody Cator He's a
third year coach here at Puffer and he definitely calls
the plays.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Got all head coaches do that.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
These are two head coaches that like to call the
play and right now Cody Cater mixing it up very well.
That was a run around left hand to Muskavi in
nice speed there, turned the corner, almost got into the
end zone.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
Bryce Poffer knocking on the door.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
I was a bet, man, I bet they're gonna go
right back to Muskvin here on first and goal to too.
Just run behind that big offensive line that's sent such
a good job leading the way on this entire drive.
And the give is to Muskuvin right up the middle
into the pile and I'm not sure if he's got there.
No signal from the officials at the touchdown. Bryce musk
In into the end zone from two yards out and
the home Rockets draw first blood with one minute and
(37:34):
ten seconds to play in the opening corner.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Yeah, very impressive drive there. Almost actually it was exclusively
on the ground that time. And that's what I thought
coming into this game. One of the keys, Cody Cater,
he thought they had an edge on the line, and
so far they definitely do. It was the big offensive
line leading the way and Bryce Muskovin, the sophomore running
back doing most of the work.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
So into attempt.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
The extra point for the Rockets is number forty three
oh and Ritzma Mason dark the holder and the kick
is blocked. Chase Segar got in there to block it,
and our score will remain Reese Puffer six, Spring Lake Nothing.
Recap that scoring drive. Eleven plays, all runs for the Rockets.
(38:22):
Who goes fifty eight yards in six minutes and one
second and it ends on a two yard Bryce Muskevin
touchdown run to put the Rockets in front two to
nothing with a minute ten seconds to go in the
opening quarter. Pretty much how you would have scripted it
if you're Cody cater here. His defense got a stop,
his offense came out, they dominate the winer scrimmage, that
(38:42):
go down the field and they take the lead.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Yeah, this is exactly what they wanted to do. Like
you said, they got that stop. The defense was very impressive.
That really hasn't been a surprise this year. They've been
good all year, but that was the best probably drive
they've had all year. Very looked very good and took
it down the field. Now spring Lake. They're stunned a
little bit. They need to come up with an answer.
(39:05):
You know, I'm looking out here, Jay, it's pretty cool.
These two great student sections, you know, I love it.
I'm looking spring Lake. They're sandwiched in out and over
there at that end they're going to tip the bleachers
over and then Rehyes Popper also with a nice student
section right in front of us.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
The Ritzma kickoff will go out of bounds at the
spring Lake thirteen yard lines. The Lakers are gonna get
the football at their own thirty five yard line that
Bryce must give in touchdown run is another fifty dollars
donated by LMCU to Kids Food Basket. Kids Food Baskets
are official nonprofit for the LMCU high school football Games
of the Week in this regular season. Every touchdown scored
(39:39):
during our games of the Week, the LMCU will generously
donate fifty dollars Kids Food Basket to nourish local kids
to reach their full potential. Spring Lake had a first
down on their first possession, but then a sack by
Javon Plumber and ended all hopes of that drive for
(40:00):
the Lakers, who had to punt. Now drive number two
is gonna start with a timeout from Cody Mallory, who
wants to talk this over.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
We'll step aside.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
This is the LMCU lake Shore Game of the Week
on one oh seven m us the moves Jason and
Tom Kendra back on the lake Shore Game of the Week.
Reese Buffer leading spring Lake six to nothing just over
a minute ago opening quarter. The Lakers have the ball
for the second time tonight. They start from their own
thirty five yard line, first and ten and Lawrence is
(40:31):
behind Grimmer. Grimmer under center for the Lakers, Trask in motion.
They're gonna run option to the right. Pitches to Trask
barely got it to him as Sam Hillen was there
to escort.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Him to the ground for a two yard loss.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Very very dangerous pitch there, like grim like that. Reese
Buffer could just as well that pitch as the spring
Lake back. So very lucky. I mean it was a
two yard loss, but spring Lake is lucky it wasn't
a turnover.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
So just as the Rockets have dominated the line of
scrimmage on offense, there doing so on defense as well.
The Lakers' best play in that first possession was a
nine yard pass completion from Grimmer to landon O'Donnell.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
We'll see what they dial up here.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
On second and twelve of their own thirty three Trask
in motion, Grimmer's back to pass with time looking deep
for o'donald, but the pass is overthrown and incomplete at
the Reese Puffer forty yard line.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Great coverage that time by the secondary for spring Reeese Puffer.
Speaker 4 (41:29):
That was a Cole Piper back there on the coverage.
Double coverage.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
You know, that was one of the problems last week
for Reese Puffer Jay against Caledonia. Big pass plays last week.
Caledonia had four or five pass plays over thirty yards
and that was a real point emphasis that time. Great
downfield coverage by the Rocket secondary.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
Just think about this a year ago this time, Cole
Piper was playing eighth grade football, just a freshman, starting
his third straight game at corner for the Rockets. Excellent
coverage at that time. Third down and twelve, we have
twenty four seconds to play open and quarter a. Reese
Puffer leads spring Lake six to nothing. Trask in motion.
They'll fake the pitch to him now, Grimmer gonna roll
to his left, being chased, Gonna throw it up deep
(42:12):
looking for Smeez who dives and can't get it at
the Reese Puffer twenty two yard line. Oliver Smeeez the
intended receiver. It's incomplete and fourth.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Down for spring Lake.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
That was incomplete Jay, But wow, talk about some arm strength.
How far do you think he threw that ball fifty
yards in the air and just led just a little
bit too far for a diving Smeeze.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
But the result is they're gonna.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Have to kick it away fifty yards in the air
and he was rolling to his left and throwing back
across his body. Ben Adams is applying the pressure for
Reese Buffer deep rockets and Hayden Roll is back to
punt for spring Lake. More and Ethan Muskevin back deep
to receive it their own thirty five. Good kick, good spy,
high spiral kick from Roll. More will let it bounce
(42:56):
at his own thirty one. It takes a big time
Laker Roll inside the twenty all way down to the
fifteen yard line. Fifty two yard punt from Hayden Roll
with no return. And that is the end of our
first quarter with the score Reesepuffer six, spring Lake zero.
This is LMCU Lake Shore Game of the week at
one oh seven. M us the Moose.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
We'll be right back. Tantelon home Improvement with eighty years

goes to Bryce Musk coming over the left hand side,
breaks a couple tackles across the thirty Brice Musk has
been across the thirty five, finally knocked out of bounds
(43:42):
that the forty yard line, and the sophomore goes for twenty.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Five on first down.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
Well, great job again by the left side of that
offensive line and Muscovin He's impressive. Jay just a sophomore,
great speed, great vision there turning the corner, big big
gain on first down.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Will be checking out other scores from around the area.

(44:22):
a whistle and a penalty.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Here.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
Looks like it's going to back up the rockets, Tom
if you want to give us some Rapid radio scoreboard update.
Speaker 3 (44:32):
Sure we got grand Haven striking first. In that game,
they lead West outa a seven to nothing. It's Montague
fourteen Orchard View nothing. In our spotlight game of the week.
Here on the Lake Shore Zealand West six, Whitehall nothing.
The skeek and Catholic Central looking to get in the
win column. They're all over Betton Harbor twenty one to nothing.
And how's this for a surprise score? East Kentwood thirteen,
(44:55):
Caledonia nothing.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Look out for those Falcons.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
I had a tough one last week against Byron Center,
but looking to bounce back to night in a big
rivalry game against Caledonia. So after the illegal substitution penalty
of the back them up five Reese Buffer at first
and fifteen of their own thirty five. Dark play Action
wants to throw now rolling right, being traced by Trask.
There's a flag down as the pass is caught by
the sophomore Connor McManus.
Speaker 6 (45:18):
Complete.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
He's inside the spring lake forty five down to the
forty three. We'll have to check the flag though. It's
in the area of offensive holding all Holy and that
is the call holding on the Rockets their second consecutive penalty,
and after a twenty five yard run on first down
from their own fifteen, Reese Buffer is going backwards on
penalties on two straight plays. They're going to have first
(45:40):
and twenty five now backed up to their own twenty
five yard line.
Speaker 3 (45:43):
Ye wipes out a beautiful pass from Ethan Dark to
another sophomore, Connor McManus. You know this is a young
Reese Puffer team. Jason Hutton. You know every year they lose,
Every team loses players. But look at the losses that
Cody Cator has to replace, Brody Johnson and the running
back Travis Ambrose, the six to eight tight end Jackson Whitaker,
(46:04):
Cayden Bulldock, Bryce Ross Brooks, Johnson, just a lot of
kids they've had to replace, and they're doing it with
some very young players.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
On first and twenty five, Dark fakes the handoff to
Bryce Muskevin throws it out quickly.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
To More in the left flat.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
Moore round the defender More cuts it back the midfield
More all the way down to the spring Lake forty.
But we have another penalty flag at the thirty eight
yard line. There are flags on the field two flags down.
There's also one at the thirty two and we've got
holding called on Reefs Puffer at three straight penalties on
the rockets and continue to go backwards.
Speaker 3 (46:39):
Well, but what a move by Marvin Moore right in
front of the Reese Puffer bench. There were two spring
Lake defenders that looked like they had him dead to rights,
and I don't know how he was able to sneak
by him along the sidelines. They didn't push him out
of bounds. Spring Lake they're looking a little tentative to
me tonight. I don't know what the issue is, but
right now the flags are really hurting Rees Buffer.
Speaker 1 (47:01):
Where you talked about Moore's abilities on the basketball court
last year as a sophomore, had a really nice season,
really showing the elusiveness here tonight in Game three of
the twenty twenty four IIGH Schol football season. He's played
a lot of snaps early here as he comes off
the field. Now as they'll go with Seacrest as a
tight end in three wide receivers Johnson McManus and Ethan
(47:21):
MUSKVN Bryce Muskevin lined up next to Mason dark So
it's back to the twenty five first and twenty five again.
The bubble screen to Ethan Muskovin is incomplete, in and
out of his hands and it'll be second down.
Speaker 3 (47:33):
That's one of the trademark plays in this Cody Cody
Cator offense is that little U called a slip screen.
I don't know what you would call it, but Ethan
Muskovin there, that pass was a little bit high.
Speaker 4 (47:44):
It hit him in the.
Speaker 3 (47:45):
Face mask, but he's got to make that catch, and
the idea is to hit him in stride and keep
moving up the field.
Speaker 4 (47:51):
He could have had a nice game there, but.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
Now it's second and long, so that will go as
the first official pass attempt respuffer here second down and
the pass is going to be complete to Luke Johnson
here on the left side. He's across the thirty out
to the thirty three yard line, got about eight. It'll
be third down in long Johnson with a seventy two
yard kick return last week and the lost of Caledonia
(48:14):
forty Rockets only.
Speaker 3 (48:15):
Plats seventeen Rocket Here we go third and long Jay
rees Puffer already heading this game six to nothing. Obviously
spring Lake. They need to get off the field here.
They can't give up a big pass play. They need
to get the ball back, try to even this game
up or take the lead.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
Clock running nine to forty two to play.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
Second quarter Reesepuffer with a six to nothing lead over
spring Lake, and before the third and seventeen play can
get off the ground, we have another penalty flag. This
will be called off sides on spring Lake and then'll
get the Rockets five more and bring up third and
twelve now.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
From the forty three.
Speaker 3 (48:47):
Makes it a little more manageable there just to jumping
off side. There are no real reason, especially with third
and that long. But now instead of third and seventeen
it's third and twelve. Might be able to run a
pull of different pass plays here.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
So on third and twelve, the fake to throw the
left come back to the right to Ethan musk have
been on the quick hitter. He's across the forty two,
about the forty two. Charlie recor makes the tackle, but
it's gonna be eight yard shy of a first down,
So fourth and eight for the Reese puffer and they're
gonna have to punt.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
Yeah, what a big hit that time by Charlie recor
He's a junior safety. He's made a couple of big
hits tonight, and that was a great one because Muskvin
he caught that ball on the run, but Recorps was
ready for it. A big hit there, and thanks to him,
they're gonna get the ball back.
Speaker 1 (49:39):
So into punp for the Rockets is number twenty Bryce
Muskovi in the sophomore back at single safety to return
it for the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
How often do you see this?
Speaker 1 (49:48):
An inside linebacker Oliver Smeeth stands packing his own twenty
one yard line.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Muskevin gets the kick away.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
It's a high spiraling kick that's gonna go bounce inside
the twenties.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
He's picks it up at his own twelve yard line.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
He brings it back across the twenty five to the
thirty finally knocked down at about the thirty one yard line.
But a forty six yard punt by Bryce Muskevin and
Smeees with a nineteen yard return, the Lakers will get
the ball back.
Speaker 4 (50:14):
You know, you asked the question.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
You don't usually see a big linebacker like that as
the punt returner. But now I see why Cody Mallory
puts Smeez back there. He's smart, he's sure handed. He
knows when to field the ball and when to get
out of the way. That time, he made a great
choice by fielding that punt and instead of you know,
being way down by the ten yard line, he was
able to return it to the thirty yard line.
Speaker 4 (50:38):
Decent field position.
Speaker 1 (50:41):
Spring Lake desperate to get something going on offense. They
punted on each of their first two possessions. They trailed
the game to respuffer six to nothing. We have eight
twenty four to play in the second quarter, fast moving game.
O'donnald is split to the right, logan straight split to
the left, and the give is going to go to
Lawrence over the left side. He's out close to the
(51:01):
thirty five yard line. Give him about four yards on
first down.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
Yeah, that time he ran into his own player gave
Traft there in the hole, or he might have got
even more there, but a good positive play there on
first downs for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
Cal Mill has number twenty two, the inside linebacker for
Reese Puffer. He really stood out to me on film
this week from the first two games. You mentioned Cayden Bouldeck,
one of those great seniors that Reeve Puffer lost last year.
He was so good for two years inside linebacker for
Reese Puffer. But millis playing well. Here's the other one.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Sage Seacrest on.
Speaker 1 (51:36):
Second down, gonna get Grimmer right at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
I really like those inside linebackers for the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
You're right, and Cody Cator loves them as well. They're
just aggressive. They're not big, they're undersize, but they love
to play and they love to hit. And you know
that time Grimmer, he doesn't have a lot of foot speed,
you know, and in the in the middle there they
were able to swarm him. Sage Seacrest leading the way,
and now we got another third down for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (52:03):
They were able to convert their initial third down of
the game on a nine yard complete pass from Grimmer
to O'Donnell.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
But they have failed on their last two third, third
and six.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
Back in motion, Grimmer straight back to pass looking for
and completing it to Bacca over the forty right at
the first down sticks and I believe he's got it,
Alex Bacca on a good pass.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
From Reed Grimmer. They're gonna move the chains into forty two.
Speaker 3 (52:27):
Yeah, that was a very difficult pass to complete there.
It's almost like a side arm throw from Reed Grimmer
to bat Cup, but he's just weaved it in there.
Speaker 4 (52:37):
He was well covered and a nice.
Speaker 3 (52:41):
Completion there to keep the drive alive again, spring Lake,
they would love to get on the board here before halftime.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
Say tuned to the preferred automotive halftime show. We'll look
at some scores from around the area with a rapid
radio scoreboard update. We'll recap the first half and on
first down, they're gonna give it to Lawrence on the
left side.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
There's just nowhere to go in the middle of that defense.
That time. It was sixty six.
Speaker 1 (53:03):
Gus Dujos Siegel who makes the tackle maybe two yards
for Lawrence that time.
Speaker 4 (53:10):
Yeah, and Gus has fired up after that play.
Speaker 3 (53:12):
He's a I'm noticing that Rees Puffer really rotating in
their defensive lineman. You know, we forget it's kind of
nice and cool up here with the breeze, but it's
hot down there on the field.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
These are some big boys.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
I think that's a very smart move by Reese Puffer
rotating guys in trying to give him a little bit
of a break.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Eighty one degrees at kickoff tonight, some twenty degrees warmer
than it was a week ago when we played Week
two high school football season, and very little breeze. Second
and seven for the Lakers on their own forty five,
and they're gonna go Lawrence over left tackle.
Speaker 4 (53:44):
This time.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
He's out to about the forty nine yard line. It's
gonna bring up third down in shorts for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
Nice a little push that time on the left side
of the offensive line by tack Kelly and Jacob.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
Trus Yeah, good job.
Speaker 3 (53:55):
That's kind of the one of the bread and butter
plays of this uh flexbone offense that Cody Mallory runs.
They you know, that power playoff tackle, and that's really
one of the few times they've gotten a nice gain
on it. Now I look at it here, the ball
is right about at midfield. J it's third and three.
I think it's four down territory. If they don't get
(54:16):
it here, I wouldn't expect them to go for it
on fourth down.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
Cody Mallory is hoping he doesn't have to make that decision.
O'Donnell has split out to the wide side, right, stray
to the left. Third and three on the forty Trask
on the wing, left back on the wing right back
at in motion and they're gonna run option right. They're
gonna pitch it to Trask. He's got a first down
in more than the forty five down to the forty
(54:40):
four yard line, seven yards for Gabe.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
Trask moved the chains for the Lakers into Repuffer territory.
Speaker 3 (54:46):
Nice job selling that fake there to the Lawrence the
up back. I thought he had the ball, so did
the Respuffer defense, but instead Reed Grimmer pulled it and
ran that option. Nice pitch play to Trask was a
able to turn the corner. But you know, it's a
tough sledding for this spring Lake offense. I mean, this
Reese Puffer defense is really good. They're in position, they
(55:09):
hit hard, and nothing's easy.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
We're gonna see Oliver sm Smeeths check into the game
now for the Lakers, who'll be on the wing to
the left at a running back position. Lawrence is right
behind Grimmer who's under center. First and ten of the
forty four and they give is the Lawrence right of
the middle. HEA's get a hole, Lawrence to the thirty
five all the way down to the thirty one yard line.
Speaker 2 (55:30):
Luke Johnson saved the touchdown, but it's fifteen yards in
the first down.
Speaker 4 (55:35):
That's what they've been wanting to do spring Lake.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
They finally caught Reese Puffer on that quick trap play
up the middle. You know, I mentioned the size of
Reese Puffer, but you know, maybe they're not as quick
on the defensive line.
Speaker 4 (55:47):
Just that quick hitter to Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (55:49):
Carson Hine, the three year starter at center, Jacob Trousse
the left guard, making just enough room for Lawrence. He's
very quick and all of a sudden, spring Lake is
on the move.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
They'll spot at the thirty one yard line. First and ten.
Speaker 4 (56:05):
For the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
Grimmer checks the sideline with coach Mallory to get a
play here. It's got straight split out to the left
and O'donald to the right.
Speaker 2 (56:13):
Back in motion.
Speaker 1 (56:14):
The pitch goes to Smeethe who spins out of a
tackle on the backfield, got maybe a yard to the
thirty yard line. Javon Plumber the first to greet him
for the rocket defense. He got another flag on the
field on the carry.
Speaker 4 (56:27):
It's like it's in the neighborhood of a holding.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
It's like we've got a little shake up on the
offensive line for spring Lake. Dean Court the junior number
fifty one is in at left tackle instead of Tag Kelly,
and number sixty two Ethan Marshall's in at right guard,
and Brady Hill has slid the center. Carson Hine is
not out there right now for the Lakers, and the
penalty is against spring Lake. They're going to back them
up five yards back to the thirty six a replay
(56:53):
first down, So with three minutes and thirteen seconds to
go in the opening quarter, it'll be first in fifteen
for spring Lake, who's currently in the middle of their
most promising drive of the evening.
Speaker 3 (57:04):
Yeah, I'm not sure if that those are injuries or
if they're just trying to shake things up a little
on the offensive line, try to get something going a
little bit after the first two.
Speaker 4 (57:11):
Drives went nowhere.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
Two fifty three. Now in the second quarter, Grim gonna
run the option left.
Speaker 1 (57:19):
He pitches it to back back around the thirty five
and out of bounds at about the thirty yard line.
He'll get the penalty yardiers back plus one pushed out
of bounds over there by Marvin Moore.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
Yeah, that time Batco was able to get the edge
turn the corner a little bit, but I'm impressed with
the speed of the respuffer defense that time. Sean Haley
was given chase, but he was able to turn the
corner a little bit. Pretty evenly a match game. From
what I can see, it's gonna I think it's gonna
come down to execution and which team can avoid the
(57:53):
penalties and avoid the turnovers.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
Two minutes forty four seconds to play before the half.
Second down to nine for the Akers. Ball on the
thirty yard line. Back it starts in motion. Now retreats
and the pitches the trask on the option steps out
of a tackle on the backfield, gets inside the thirty
to about the twenty seven yard line.
Speaker 2 (58:11):
Cal Millis makes the tackle for the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Yeah, that time, Ethan Muskvin had penetration. He wasn't able
to get the ball carrier to the ground, but he
slowed down the play enough so that the rest of
his teammates could come and gang tackle him. And now
here we are third and six, but now you know,
trailing six to nothing, the ball in the twenty seven
yard line. This is now definitely four down territory for
the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
Just over two minutes to play before the half. Clock
is running at two oh five spring Lake. With the
tenth play upcoming of this drive that started on their
own thirty one yard line.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
It is third down and six.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
They need to twenty one for a first down, and
we're gonna have another whistle. I don't see a flag,
but the officials are stopping the clock. Timeout spring Lake.
Cody Mallory takes the time out minute fifty two to
play before the half. This is the LMCU Lake short
game of the week. On one oh seven m us
the Moose will be right back. We're just a minute
(59:13):
and fifty two seconds away from the preferred automotive halftime show.
We'll check some scores from around the area, recap the
first half, and look for look ahead to the second
half of this one. It's been a good ball game
so far Reese Puffer leading spring Lake six to nothing.
We have one minute fifty two seconds to play until halftime.
Jason Hutton along with Tom Kendra on the Lake Short
game of the week. Spring Lake with the football, third
(59:36):
down and six on the Reesepuffer twenty seven yard line,
and the gave is gonna go to Lawrence up the
middle inside the twenty five, close to the twenty three.
Speaker 2 (59:48):
He'll be short of the first down.
Speaker 1 (59:50):
Noah Sapone makes the tackle, but it's gonna be fourth
down in two.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Yeah, great play by the center of that Reese Puffer defense.
And yeah, fourth and short here, it's a huge play
in this game. Spring Lake down six to nothing, fourth
and three. Let's see what they have in the playbook
on this huge play.
Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
O'donald is split right, Trascoes in motion. But now Grimmer
is going to look to the sidelines and get the
play call from Cody Mallory. Logan Stray is split to
the left, and it's gonna be a quarterback secret out
the middle of the Grimmer. He's got the first down,
he's inside the twenty yard line. Move the chains. Now
the clock becomes a factor. It'll be first intense Spring
(01:00:34):
Lake at the twenty yard line, one minute five seconds
to play before the half, and spring Lake has just
one time out remaining time.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
Yeah, what an interesting play call there, Jason Hutton. You
know Read Grimmer, he's not that power guy that you think,
you know is gonna keep it very often, but he
must have saw something there right up the middle. They
went with the keeper play, and he just buried himself
right behind the big center and guard and got just enough.
Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
With the first down clock.
Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Running four eight seconds to play before the half, spring
Lake with it first and twenty and the reepuffer twenty
yard line and the pitch goes to Trask around the
right side. In a smart play call there as Trash
is able to get out of bounds close to the
fifteen yard line, but it stops the clock with thirty
nine seconds to play before the half.
Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
Yeah, you would think, you know, with just one time
out remaining and you know Reed Grimmer can throw it,
you would think this would be an opportunity to throw
the football. I know Cody Mallory loves to run it,
that's it's in his DNA, but you would think if
they were gonna do it, this would be the time.
So and especially with Reese buffers, the problems they've had
and in the past weeks defending the pass. It looks like,
(01:01:39):
you know, that would be what I would be worried
about if I was the respuffer defenses through the air
right now.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
So they say he goes out at the sixteen four
yards for Trash on first down, second down and six Trash.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Goes in motion.
Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
They run option left to back back, able to get
around Hilling in the backfield, but.
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
Not around Cale Millis.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
It'll be a loss back to the twenty eight yard
line and spring Lake's gonna have to spend their final
time out, although the clock continues to run. With twenty
four seconds to go and it's third and ten for
spring Lake, well, they're not gonna use it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
They're gonna try to get up to the line, but
valuable seconds are ticking off here Jay.
Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
Third and ten, fifteen seconds to go, Grimmer's straight back
to pass. With time he's going to the end zone
looking for o'donald. At the ball's overthrown. Marvin Moore with
the coverage, it'll be fourth down and ten for spring
Lake and they're gonna have eight seconds left before the half.
Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
Wow, he had him open that time Landon O'Donnell.
Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
He just led him a little too much and threw
it a little bit too far outside there. And so
now here they are, fourth and ten, the twenty yard line,
eight seconds to go. You know, can they make a
thirty eight yard field goal?
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
I don't know. It's probably what they're talking about here
at this time out.
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Well, let's go back to that second down play, second
and six and the sixteen. This is the one that's
kind of thwarted this spring Lake drive. Trying to run
option to the wide side left. Sam Hillen came up
for his outside lampbacker spot. He really made the play.
I fight he didn't make the tackle, but he forced
back to have to go farther wider outside and Mills
with the pursuit, came in and made the play. It
was a great play by the Rocket defense. And it's
(01:03:14):
foot spring Lake in a really tough spot now.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
And this respuffer defense I think is better than the
Cody Mallory thinks maybe. I think that's their play, that
option play, and every time they've run it, this respuffer
defense has been there.
Speaker 4 (01:03:29):
Including that last time.
Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
So so now here we are, I don't think they're
going to try a field goal from this long. I'm
expecting a pass into the end zone here, you know,
to try to get a score here.
Speaker 4 (01:03:41):
Right at the end of the half, no field goal.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
Unit, Lakers offense stays on the field fourth and ten
on the twenty yard line, Spring Lake out of timeouts,
bunch formation back. It goes in motion, Grimmer straight back
to pass being chased by Plumber and Adams.
Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Now he's gonna throw for the end zone.
Speaker 1 (01:03:57):
For Stray who caught it, but I believe he's out
of Incredible play by Logan straight to come up with
that pass, but out of bounds, and the Lakers will
turn this over on downs. The Reese Puffer defense holds
and that is the final play of the first half.
Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
Big stop from the Rockets. We will get the ball
that starts the second half.
Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
Yeah, nice job.
Speaker 3 (01:04:17):
Like I said, they've been hurt through the air the
first two weeks, but so far the past defense has
been great, including right there. They pitch a shutout in
the first half. Six nothing Rockets.
Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
So stay tuned for the preferred Automotive halftime show. We'll
recap the first half, take a look at some scores
from around the area, and preview the final twenty four
minutes of this one.
Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
At the half.
Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
Our score Reese Puffer six, Spring Lake zero. We got
a good one in the LMCU Lake Shore Game of
the Week one oh seven mus the Moose. Here on
the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week Jason along

by Preferred Automotive Dealerships with five locations are along the
lake Shore and over seven hundred vehicles available. Preferred has
the vehicle to fit any budget. Preferred is driving our
community well. The way this game started, it looked like
it might be a Rockets route. They forced a punt
on spring Lake's opening possession and then took the ball
(01:05:23):
eleven plays, fifty eight yards and six minutes in one seconds,
Sophomore Bryce Muskavin with a two yard touchdown run extra
point blocked.
Speaker 2 (01:05:33):
It was six to nothing.
Speaker 1 (01:05:34):
All eleven plays of that opening drive for the Rockets
were on the ground. And then spring Lake got the
football back Goes three and out punted it back to
Reese Puffer and we thought, uh oh, maybe we're not
in for the close game, we thought, but the Laker
defense stepped up, they got a stop. They took the
ball from their own thirty one yard line and went
fifteen plays and took the final eight minutes and twenty
(01:05:57):
four seconds off the clock, but could not score. On
fourth and ten from the twenty reed, Grimmer's pass was
caught by Logan Stray, the junior wide receiver, but he
was out of bounds in the back of the end
zone on the final play of the first half. So
the Lakers, who possessed the football for over fourteen minutes
(01:06:22):
of that first half, Reeze Puffer had it for less
than ten. But it's the Rockets who enjoy a six
point lead at the half. Reese Puffer six, spring Lake nothing.
We'll step aside, We'll come back. We'll look at a

first half. I wasn't sure we were going to be
in for this kind of a ballgame after the way
Rhys Puffer started that game with the stop and then
marching right down and score.
Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
But the Lakers have came fighting back.
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
Yeah, it's been a great defensive game if you like
hard hitting and if you like defense, this has certainly
been the place to be. One of the fastest first
halfs I've ever been a part of. Very little passing
at all in the and you know the stats bear
that out. Not a whole lot of offense to talk about,
but a very close, competitive game, that's for sure. It's
(01:07:53):
gonna come down. I think the halftime adjustments, whoever makes
the better ones ends up winning well.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
Spring Lake had the football for over fourteen minutes of
that first half, but no points on the scoreboard six
nothing re s Puffer. Let's get a look at some
of those first half statistics.
Speaker 3 (01:08:07):
Yeah, In terms of a total yardage so far Reese
Puffer eighty six total yards compared to forty nine for
spring Lake. First downs are equal nine first downs for
both teams. You look at the rushing though, and that's
where Rees Puffer is really dominated. Eleven rushes for seventy
nine yards. The leading rusher by far is the sophomore
(01:08:27):
Bryce Muskevin eight carries for sixty seven yards. Meanwhile, spring
Lake eighteen rushes for just thirty three yards, less than
two yards per carry. On the rush, Darryl Lawrence eight
rushes for twenty six yards, and then Gave Trask with
five carries for thirteen yards. The quarterbacks, both of them
(01:08:50):
have thrown the balls six times, Mason dark for Reese
Buffer three of six for seventeen yards and Reed Grimmer
for spring Lake.
Speaker 4 (01:08:58):
Two of six for sixteen yards.
Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
So again, the total yardage eighty six for Reese Popper
forty nine for spring Lake. Defensively, Cale Millis for Reese
Popper as three tackles. Sage Seacrest and Wyatt Smith both
have two stops, and then defensively for spring Lake. The
Smee's brothers, Oliver and Owen, the two linebackers, both with
three tackles to lead the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
That was not a first half for the faint of heart.
The offenses were struggling, but the defenses playing at a
high level. And we have a six to nothing ballgame.
Ree Puffer leading spring Lake in our MCU Lakes, our
game of the week. This is the preferred automotive halftime show.
Will step aside, We'll come back. We'll take a look
at a rapid radios scoreboard update. One oh seven mus
the movie Jason not along with Tom Kendra back on
(01:09:48):
the Lake Shore Game of the Week. Reese Puffer leading
spring Lake six to nothing in time for a rapid
radio scoreboard update with Tom.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
All Right, we got quite a few scores here around
the area. Holland West Outawa seven, Grand Haven seven.
Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
Tight battle there.
Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
It's a Lowell twenty one to or Excise Coopersville twenty
one to seven over Lowell.
Speaker 4 (01:10:07):
In the Pink Arrow game.
Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
Oak Ridge looking for a little revenge after a loss
last year. They lead at Manistee twenty one to eight.
It's Montagu twenty eight Orchard view eight MANI you're looking
to get their second straight win heading into that showdown
next week at Whitehall. So far Whitehall really struggling with
a really good Zeeland West team thirty eight to nothing,
Zeeland West putting it on Whitehall so far. Tonight it's
(01:10:32):
a Hart and Shelby, another great rivalry there six to six.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
In that game.
Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
Muskegan Catholic taking out a little bit of frustration on
Benton Harbor tonight thirty five to nothing. And then some
scorers in the Grand Rapids area, some surprising ones here. Jay,
East Kent would twenty seven Caledonia nothing. At the last
report East Kent would really have in their way in
that game. And how about the game of the week
on ninety six point one. Rockford jumped out to a
(01:10:59):
ten to nothing lead that game, Jay, but Grandville zero
and two coming back. Grandville has come back in the
now lead Rockford twelve to ten. A great game up
at Carlson Munger Stadium, Unity Christian. This is a surprising
score twenty eight to seven over Forest Hills Eastern. Highly
touted Forest Hills Eastern team Unity Christian and Craig Tibby
(01:11:21):
leading them twenty eight to seven so far and West
Catholic twenty four, South Christian fourteen. South Christian had the
lead early in that game, but West Catholic has come
roaring back. And probably the most surprising score of the
night is Grand Rapids Catholic Central. They're losing to Pontiac
Notre Dame thirty four to nothing. So really some surprising
(01:11:43):
games there on that rapid radio scoreboard show.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
Definitely some surprising scores. I'm gonna disagree with you, Tom,
Catholic Central and Prep is surprising. I think that Caledonia
East Kentwood scores the biggest surprise to me. For East
catwould just to be dominating Caledonia. You know, we saw
would get beat. They were down thirty six to nothing
at the half last week and that lost to Byron Center.
Caled Unions look good through two weeks. They have one
(01:12:06):
of the best quarterbacks in the state and Brody Betzer.
And for Caledonia to have zero on the board right now,
you know former defensive coordinator here at Reez Puffer, Alex
Smith doing a heck of a job through that first
half slowing down that caled On the offense.
Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
Yeah, he certainly is.
Speaker 3 (01:12:19):
That's one of those scores you wonder about because sometimes
I remember we've we've talked about scores in games before,
only to find out later that it was reversed on
the on the list that we're looking at. So but
as far as I know that's accurate, East Kent would
under you know, Tyrone Spencer, first year coach, that would
be a marquee win for him if that is, if
that holds up.
Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
Well, let's take a look at the keys of the
second half in this game. Reece Puffer is going to
get the football. They lead spring Lake sixth, and I
think it's been a defensive game. We talked about keys
at the top. From what you've seen in the first
twenty four minutes time, what does each team need to
do here?
Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Because this game very much still in the balance.
Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
For me, for spring Lake, it's the same key that
it was before the game, and that's they got to
use their court grimmer.
Speaker 4 (01:13:01):
I mean, two completions is not enough.
Speaker 3 (01:13:04):
This Reeese Puffer defense is just ganging up to stop
that flex bone. They're well coached, They're in position on
every play on that flex bone. I think the only
hope for spring Lake. I'll be honest with you, Jay
I think the only hope for them is to go
to the air and to move the ball that way,
because just trying to line up and pound it, they're
averaging less than two yards of carry so far. So
(01:13:26):
I think the big key for spring Lake is not
being afraid to throw the football to try to win
this game. And then and then for Reese Puffer, you know,
they're getting the ball here to start the second half.
They lead this game six to nothing. I think Cody
Cater's just telling them, Hey, the only only people stopping
us so far. Hey, Gary Mass, there one of the
old broadcasters on MUS stepping in to say hello, a
(01:13:51):
former He doesn't Gary doesn't like to be called old,
so yeah, he's not old. He's the former play by
play guy for WMUS saying hello. But really, you know,
when you look at it, Jay Ree Puffer's offense stopped
itself with those penalties.
Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
That's another thing I forgot to mention in the stats.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
There were no turnovers in the first half, but Ree
Puffer really hurt themselves with penalties. I think if they
were able to play clean and score on this first drive,
I think that's really important.
Speaker 4 (01:14:17):
If they score on this first drive, that might be
enough to pull out the win.
Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
But the turnovers is key.
Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
I said that was my key at the beginning of
this game, and I think with this game at six nothing,
there's gonna be probably a turnover here in this second half,
and whoever can create it, I think is gonna have
the best chance to win this football game. The Rockets
are gonna get the football to start the second half.
Sophomore Bryce Muskevin and junior Marvin Moore are back deep
to receive for Reese Puffer number seven. Logan Stray is
(01:14:46):
gonna kick it deep for the Lakers. This is gonna
be the first time we've seen the Lakers kickoff unit
tonight straight kicking from his own forty eight yard line,
and it's gonna be a high endover and kick that's
gonna go to More in his own ten more running
all the way to the left side, got a wall
of blockers is around the twenty, More at the thirty
more close to.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
The forty yard line before he's finally pushed out.
Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
Of bounds by Owen Smeeze and another penalty flag back
at the nineteen yard line, and once again, a promising
Reese Puffer play is going to be brought back and
they're going to start deep in their own territory.
Speaker 4 (01:15:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
Jay, that was one of the stats that I wasn't
able to pick up on the iPad that I was looking.
Speaker 4 (01:15:27):
At for the Reese Puffer stat crew.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
I didn't see the number of penalties, but that's got
to be what seven or eight already against Reeese Puffer.
Speaker 4 (01:15:34):
And you know that's a costly one there.
Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
Marvin Moore, he brought it out almost to the fifty
yard line on that return, but by the time this
penalty has marched off, that's going to be a thirty
plus yard penalty against Reees Puffer.
Speaker 1 (01:15:46):
And that's not the first time that Marvin Moore has
made a really nice play that's going to be nullified
by a penalty. But I'll tell you what, I love
what I'm seeing out at number twelve, the junior. I mean,
he's a serious playmaker for Reez Puffer and certainly somebody
that's going to make some noise here if the Rockets
are going to be competitive when they get into this
very difficult Okay Green schedule.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Yeah, so many of these skill players for Reese Puffer
are underclassmen. Mason dark the junior, Bryce Muskavin just a sophomore,
Marvin Moore a junior. Connor McManus is a sophomore. So yeah,
they got a lot of talented young players here. I mean,
you never like to say it's a rebuilding year, but
it's kind of a rebuilding year here at Reez Puffer.
Speaker 4 (01:16:23):
But the future is bright.
Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
That penalty'll cost them thirty yards. Instead of starting on
their own forty, the Rockets start first and ten on
their own ten and for the first time tonight, we
see the quarterback power play, a play that Reeve Puffer
has random Mason Dark pretty well through the first two
weeks of the season, but there is no gain this time.
Logan stra makes the Tackle'll be second down and ten.
Speaker 4 (01:16:43):
Yeah, not much power on that quarterback power play.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
That was again these two linebackers, the Smeez Boys, Oliver
and Olen. Those guys are tough in the middle of
the It's tough to run up the middle against this
spring late team. Ree Puffer's had better success running off
tackle or around the end.
Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
Caleb Teas is now in the game at outside linebacker
for the Lakers, who up front have Ethan Lissman, Brady Hill,
and Jacob Trousse. Still no Tech Kelly, still no Carson
Hine for the Lakers. Second and ten, Dark wants to throw.
He's got lots of time now he's gonna tuck it
and run. He gets out of an Ortez tackle at
the eight, takes out to about the fourteen yard line,
but it'll be third down for the Rockets that time.
Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
Reese Puffer was looking to throw the ball down the field.
Good coverage by spring Lake. Nobody was open and Mason
Dark just had to tuck it and run and get
what he could. He was able to get about four
or five yards there. But now, what a huge play.
This is very early in the second half, but at
their own fifteen yard line. If they don't pick this up,
(01:17:42):
they're gonna have to punt it and spring Lake should
get great field positions. So huge play, a.
Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
Huge opportunity for the Lakers to get off the field here.
After their offense had the ball and marched all the
way down to the red zone late in that second quarter,
we're unable to score. If the Laker defense could get
off the field right now, that'd be huge for spring
Lakes chances. The give goes to Bryce Muskin around the
left side anymore, Bryce must give into the thirty and
out to the thirty five yard line or Tease saved
the tackle, but Muskevin goes for twenty in the Rockets.
Speaker 2 (01:18:09):
Move the chains.
Speaker 3 (01:18:09):
Did you see the bursts there through the hole there
by Bryce Muskvin. I was looking to see Moy's he
gonna have enough there to get the first down, and
all of a sudden, he just turned down the burners
and he turned what looked like it was gonna be
a short gain into a nice what ten to fifteen
yard run?
Speaker 1 (01:18:26):
They'll spot it at to thirty six first and ten
rhes Puffer. They got a bunch formation to the wide
side right, Bryce Muskoven gonna run behind it up to
the forty Bryce musket In a mid fielding into Laker
territory down to the forty seven yard line, another burst
and another seventeen yards before he's brought down.
Speaker 3 (01:18:45):
You know I mentioned a minute ago they're not having
much luck running between the tackles, and I think Cody
Cator noticed the same thing.
Speaker 4 (01:18:52):
On that third.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
Downplay, they ran Muskivin around left end big game, And
on that first down play, they run Bryce muskive in
a round on the right end. Big game, so they're
having a lot of success running off the edges.
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
Give him nineteen yards, they'll spot it down at the
spring Lake forty five yard line. Rockets lead six nothing,
nine minutes, nineteen seconds to play. Third quarter dark with
the quick pass out to Ethan Muskavin, who's got it
and drags a couple of spring Lake tacklers inside the
forty yard lines about the thirty nine. So a nice
pickup of six for Reese Puffer on first down.
Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
Yeah, nice job.
Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
The Muskovin brothers are were calling their name quite a
bit tonight. Their dad, Dave Muskavin, he's the head of
the youth football out here at Reez Puffer. So they're
a big family here in ree Puffer Football and they're having.
Speaker 4 (01:19:40):
A great night so far. Tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:19:42):
We continue to see Cody Cater change formations. Two tight
ends now, Eli Schneider and Stage Seacrest in Luke Johnson
and McManus at a bunch to the top of the
screen and the give is to Bryce McManus. We got
a whistle before the snap. We got a fall start
on Reeese Puffer and it'll back them up five and
make it second and nine.
Speaker 3 (01:19:59):
Yeah, these penalties have got to be driving Cody Cater
and his coaching staff crazy because it seems like every
time they're.
Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
One tight end eleven personnel. Look here with Seacrest as
a tight end or h back, Bryce Muskovin in the
backfield with Dark, Luke Johnson split to the short side left,
Ethan Muscovin, and Connor McManus on the wide side right.
Eight minutes, fifteen seconds to play. Third quarter, Dark with
time throwing complete.
Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
To Luke Johnson.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
He's inside the thirty five, Johnson inside the thirty and
it's a Reese puffer first down.
Speaker 4 (01:20:33):
That time what do they call it? The yak yards
after catch.
Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
Great job, just a short quick pass there to Lucas
Johnson and then he he avoided a tackle. I don't
know how he was able to do that, but once
he did, darted up the field for the first down.
Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
That's the second time we've seen them run that stop
route just five yards and stopped to Luke Johnson.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
It's been successful both times.
Speaker 1 (01:20:55):
Spot him at the twenty eight yard line first and
ten rockets on the move. Here's we all in the
third quarter and they give us to Bryce musk beIN.
He's got a hole around the right side. Muskvin cuts
it back at the twenty Muskaven all the way down
to the ten yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
Another first down.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
For ree Puffer, who continues to march it behind that
big senior offensive line.
Speaker 3 (01:21:13):
Wow, we're sort of seeing a star being born here
in the sophomore Bryce Muskvin, a track star for Don Kattner,
longtime coach at Reese Buffer. But you know last year
it was Brody Johnson. He was the workhorse for this
Reese Buffer offense. And we were all wondering who's gonna
take the place of Brody Johnson. I think we found
our answer, Jay, It's the sophomore Bryce Muskevin. He's got
(01:21:36):
his rockets inside the ten yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:21:39):
It is first and goal Balmart just inside the ten
yard line. Seven minutes, ten seconds to play third quarter.
Ree Buffer leads the game six to nothing, but they're
threatening to extend.
Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
It to his two score lead.
Speaker 1 (01:21:50):
We got Sam hill In checking into the game in
the backfield. Now Bryce Muskeven gets a blow and that's
the power formation. They're just gonna run dark behind all
those blockers. He's inside the five yard line, close to
the three it'll be second down a goal.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
You know, we've mentioned a lot of penalties for ree Puffer.
Part of that, you know, again, a lot of new
new faces, new players, and Cody likes to run a
very complicated offense. You've mentioned all the different formations that
they're running. It does confuse the defense, but sometimes it
confuses the offense. And I think, you know, that might
explain the penalties we've seen. But in spite of it,
(01:22:24):
Reez Puffer is knocking on the door hill.
Speaker 2 (01:22:26):
And checks out.
Speaker 1 (01:22:27):
It will be two tights though Schneider on the left,
Seacrest on the right, McManus and Johnson and the bunch
to the right. Muskevin goes in motion out of the backfield.
Dark's gonna run quarterback draw. He's in trouble. Ortis got
up in the backfield at the seven yard line. Excellent
play by Caleb Ortez and it'll be third and goal.
Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
That was a great play by our tees.
Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Wow, was he back there quickly and he didn't let
Mason Dark get going and now brings up a third
in goal. And let's see what Cody Cator can come
up with here, whether he decides to go to the
air or he sticks to Muskevin on the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
Well, we did see.
Speaker 1 (01:23:03):
Junior kicker Owen Ritzema kick a field goal in week
one at Forest Hills Central, so we know the Rockets
can't do that if they need to, but they're hoping
to punch it in here. They mark them at the
sixth third and goal. Ethan Muskovin is back in. He's
in the slot to the right. Mcmanuson Johnson split out
and the GiB goes right up the middle to Bryce
Muskevin who's down to about the two yard line. But
(01:23:24):
it will be fourth and goal now and a huge
play up coming with five twenty five to play in
the third.
Speaker 3 (01:23:29):
Wow, no doubt about it is this is a gigantic
play in this game. We saw spring Lake have a
chance to score right at the end of the first half.
The fourth down pass goes incomplete. Now we have Reese
Puffer with a chance to take a two score lead. Boy,
if spring Lake could dig in here Jay and stop him,
that would be a huge play in this game.
Speaker 1 (01:23:48):
Well, in the Lakers game last week at Belding, Belding
got the ball to start the second half and converted
three fourth downs on the way to a touchdown in
the opening possession of the third quarter of spring Lake
trying to come up dig deep here and get a
big fourth down. Stop clock running at four fifty to
play third quarter, Dark has helling in the backfield with him.
Speaker 2 (01:24:06):
He's gonna run behind him over the right side and
no signal yet.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
Touchdown Mason Dark two yard touchdown run and the Rockets
extend to a two score lead with four forty four
to play in the third.
Speaker 3 (01:24:17):
Wow, it was hard to see over there. He ran
around the right side. He didn't get it by much.
I'll tell you that he dove in the spring Lake
defenders were arguing it. Oliver Smiz didn't think he made it,
but the official with a quick call for the touchdown.
I think Mason Dark, you know, just to his tenacity,
his nose for the end zone. He just dove for
(01:24:40):
it and got it just barely. Boy, every yard is
tough in this game.
Speaker 1 (01:24:44):
Jay so Ritzma into attempt to point after his first
one was blocked in the opening quarter. Good pass from center,
Dark gets it down. Rithma's kick is up and it
is good and our new score is Reese Puffer thirteen
and spring Lake nothing, four to forty four to play
in the third quarter. We'll step aside. This is the
(01:25:05):
LMCU Lake Shore Game of the week. On one oh seven,
mus the moves.
Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
They get back at his own twelve yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
He bounces off a tackler at the twenty five, gets
it across the thirty to about the thirty two yard line,
and that's where the Lakers will.
Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
Go to work with four to thirty six to go
in the third quarter. In tom it's been a while
since we've seen Reed Grimmer in company.
Speaker 1 (01:25:28):
They had that drive late in the second quarter, but
Rhys Puffer just took the opening drive of the third quarter.
Eleven plays, seven minutes, sixteen seconds. They go ninety yards
and finish it off with a Mason Dark touchdown run.
Extra point from Ritzuma makes it thirteen to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Rockets.
Speaker 3 (01:25:46):
Yeah, what that was just what Cody Cator wanted. And
now it's time for this Spring Lake offense to wake up.
They need to get on the board here, make this
a ballgame.
Speaker 1 (01:25:56):
And they're gonna give it to Lawrence on first down,
he's over the thirty five and they'll spot him there
gain of about three.
Speaker 2 (01:26:02):
It'll bring up second down.
Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
That touchdown run by Mason Dark is another fifty dollars
donated to Kids Food Basket by LMCU. Kids Food Basket
is our official nonprofit for the MCU High School Football
Game of the Week in this regular season, every touchdown
scored during our games of the Week, LLMCU will generously
donate fifty dollars Kids Food Basket to nurish local kids
to reach their full potential. So that's one hundred dollars
we've had in this game already. Bryce musk in with
(01:26:25):
a touchdown run in the first half, Mason Dark just
a moment ago. Go to the nine six won the
game or one of seven MS web pages and you
can donate as well, and well we'll give you a
shout out, leave a name, a team, a player, and
we'd be happy to do that either on the LMCU
High School Football pregame show or one of our games
of the week. On second down, Reed Grimmer wants to
(01:26:47):
throw and was in trouble. He throws the ball out
of bounds incomplete. It'll bring up third and long for
the Lakers with three fifty three to go in the third.
Speaker 3 (01:26:55):
That was a broken play of some kind there, Jay,
I think some either Reed Grimmer went the wrong way
or the receiver went the wrong way, because I've never
seen something quite like that. He rolled out to the
left and he threw it towards the sidelines and there
was nobody there. So here we are third and long
again for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (01:27:13):
So the last thing you can do if your spring
Lake is give the ball back to Reese Puffer. Your
defense was just on the field for over seven minutes.
You're down thirteen. You've got to find a way to
convert here and stay on the field. Back in motion,
Grimmer back to pass and looking for back on the
wheel route. It is incomplete, and it's a punting situation
for spring Lake. I don't think they have much of
a choice here, tom.
Speaker 3 (01:27:34):
No, they really don't. At their own thirty five yard line. Yeah,
they're gonna have to kick it away. But this, you know,
we talked coming in that Reese Puffer. The first two games,
their defense was impressive. It's really impressive. You know, I
didn't know they lost their defensive coordinator, Alex Smith, you
know he left in the offseason. Also, a couple other
defensive coaches are not back this year, Jerry Brown, Jeff Yuganski.
(01:27:58):
But they're doing a great jeb on that side of
the ball. Spring Lake so far hasn't been able to
do anything.
Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
Roll into punt More and Musk have ben Ethan Muskvan
back deep. It'll be Ethan musk Ben taking it back
in his own nineteen yard line back across the thirty chase.
Segar will usher amount of bounds at about the thirty
one yard line. But the Rockets offense with Mason Dark
coming back onto the field. Chance to really put this
game away onus really now falls in the spring Lake
(01:28:25):
defense to give the Lakers a chance.
Speaker 3 (01:28:28):
That's right, then, I like to you know, Ethan muskovin
there on the punt return, he just got the ball
and just ran straight ahead and got as many yards
as he could, got about eight or nine yards on
that return. But you know that's what you want out
of your punt returner. So many times they're dancing around
losing yardage. That time he he just took what he
could get fielded it cleanly. And now, yeah, this drive
(01:28:49):
right here, Reese Puffer. If they score, they can put
the game away. If spring Lake can get a stop,
they have a chance to get back into it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:55):
They'll say Ethan Muskvin got to the thirty two yard line.
It's first in ten. Dark gonna run it up the
middle on first down and he's got about five nine
up the middle. Looks like Landon O'Donnell made the tackle
for spring Lake.
Speaker 3 (01:29:12):
You know, one of the big differences in this game
is just the the push of the line. I mean
every play, Reese Buffer's backs have a little bit of
room to do something, where it seems like spring Lake
Their backs don't have much room to do anything. It's
just that I think Reese Puffer's just a little bit
better in the trenches. I think that's been the difference
so far.
Speaker 1 (01:29:31):
Check that it's nine not to six that made the tackle.
Alex Backa came up from his safety spot. He got
up holding his shoulder a little bit, but he'll stay
in the game. Back an important player for the Lakers,
both at safety and in his wing back spot in
the flex bone.
Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
Second down, Dark wants to pass going deep.
Speaker 1 (01:29:44):
For Luke Johnson, who's open. Johnson's got up to thirty five.
Luke Johnson inside the twenty. Luke Johnson into the end
zone sixty two yards and Rockets.
Speaker 2 (01:29:53):
Citi's on fire. The Rockets extended to a three score leads.
Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
What a beautiful pass there from Mason Dyer. You know
what I liked about that Jay, He didn't try to
fire it in there and show off his arm.
Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
What great touch on that pass.
Speaker 3 (01:30:07):
He just lofted it perfectly to Lucas Johnson who was
wide open over the middle. He didn't overthrow him, he
just loft at it right in there. Lucas Johnson comes
right under it, grabs it, and takes it the rest
of the way. Great play call there. Springlake ganged up
to stop the run. Reese Puffer nails them with a
big pass play.
Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
I went Ritzma into a tempt the extra point.
Speaker 1 (01:30:29):
We have two minutes forty three seconds to play in
the third quarter of the home team's taking complete control.
Speaker 2 (01:30:35):
Of this game. Dark gets it down. Rizama's kick is
up and it is through.
Speaker 4 (01:30:40):
It is no good.
Speaker 1 (01:30:41):
They'll say wide left, so our score will remain. Reese
Puffer nineteen, spring Lake zero. And that's another fifty dollars
for Kids Food Basket MCU donating this season fifty dollars
for every touchdown in our nine to six to one
games of the week, So three touchdowns in this one.
One hundred and fifty more dollars going to Kids Food
(01:31:04):
Basket to help nourish local kids and reach their full.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
Potential once again.
Speaker 1 (01:31:09):
Go to one oh seven mus dot com nine to
six one the game dot com. You can donate as
well and we'll give you a shout out. Leave a team,
leave a name either Bretbakita or I, or we'll hit
it on the high School Football Previews show on Thursday
nights from six to seven.
Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
The Kids Food Basket.
Speaker 1 (01:31:31):
Is our official nonprofit this season of the high school
games of the Week, we'd like to think Brian Thomas
back in our one oh seven m us to Studio
studios doing a great job on the ones and Tuesday night.
Brian always coming through for us on these Friday night
high school football games. Reece Puff are gonna kick it
deep here leading nineteen to nothing. Seaguard back to take
(01:31:53):
it at his own ten yard line. Seaguard up the
near side over the twenty and he's gonna be hitting
dropped right there Elliet which Schneider makes the tackle and
the Lakers will go to work eighty nine yards from
their first points of the night.
Speaker 4 (01:32:07):
Yeah, now they're really in a hole.
Speaker 3 (01:32:08):
Jay, You know, it's a six to nothing at the half,
and then a big opening drive for Reese Poffer made
it thirteen to nothing. But then the big pass play,
the first real big play of this game, and now
it's a nineteen to nothing hole and it's getting to
be desperation time for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (01:32:28):
Well, let's see the Lakers will do what you've been
asking them to do, and that's let Reed Grimmer throw
the football. I mean, this is a flex bone option
team that wants to run it, and they haven't thrown
it much tonight. Here they go Lawrence, right up the
middle of Lawrence, able to get about four out to
about the twenty five yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:32:47):
Sorry about that.
Speaker 3 (01:32:47):
And we mentioned earlier that big student section across the
way from us for spring Lake packed in there on
that north end of the stands. They haven't had much
to cheer about. They're I give them credit for being
here there. It looks like they're having fun. But what's
been the biggest play for spring Lake? About a nine
yard game?
Speaker 1 (01:33:05):
Maybe they had that long, methodical drive at the end
of the second quarter where they couldn't cash in second down.
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
Grimmer back to pass, looking deep.
Speaker 1 (01:33:15):
He's looking for stray and the ball is going to
be just a little bit underthrown incomplete Marvin Moore running
stride for stride with Logan straight, it'll be third and
long for spring Lake.
Speaker 3 (01:33:25):
Yeah, you're right about this spring Lake offense. It's really
not It's a it's a run based offense, no question
about it. But you know, I think if they want
to have a chance to compete in some of their
big games coming, you know, they still have to play
West Catholic that'll be next week.
Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
They have Forest Hills Eastern down the road.
Speaker 3 (01:33:43):
Uh, they're gonna have to be able to throw the
ball because they're just not good enough to just line
up and pound it at people.
Speaker 4 (01:33:49):
Especially they're really good teams.
Speaker 3 (01:33:51):
So I think that's gonna be the key to their
season is whether Grimmer can you know, find his footing
in the passing game.
Speaker 1 (01:33:58):
Playing without Carson Hine and Tag Kelly on that front
line tonight makes things even more difficult. Last week against
Belling and they were able to find some luck going unbalanced.
Thought maybe we'd see that a little bit here in
the second half, but have it to this point and
the pitch this time goes to Oliver Smeeze around the
left side. Sneeze is out close to a first down,
looks like you'll have it. As they get him at
the thirty one yard line. Cal Millis made the tackle,
(01:34:19):
but a huge third down conversion for spring Lake. They
could not afford to go three and out there.
Speaker 3 (01:34:23):
Yeah, obviously they did the main thing they had to
do there, which was keep possession of the ball.
Speaker 4 (01:34:29):
But you know that's one thing. But the other thing
is now the clock is not their friend.
Speaker 3 (01:34:34):
We're ticking down just a little over a minute left
here in the third quarter and they're down three scores.
Speaker 2 (01:34:40):
So on first down, they're gonna go Lawrence right back
up the middle.
Speaker 1 (01:34:43):
He's got a couple looks like he's got about the
thirty four yard line. Cal Millis in there to make
a plage of plumber getting them off the pile. Second
down and eight now for the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
Yeah, you know, this is the time of the night
where we start thinking about who are we gonna name,
you know, as ara player of the game. And you know,
Cale Millis, they're doing a heck of a job at
linebacker for this Rocket defense.
Speaker 1 (01:35:08):
Remember, really been a team effort by Reese Buffer here
on defense, Lawrence gets to carry on second down, he's
up to about the thirty nine yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:35:16):
Give him five. It'll be third down and three, and.
Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
The Lakers continue this methodical approach on offense down three
scores now just forty seconds to play before the end
of the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:35:30):
That's our Blue Water Cabinet Treat and Design player of
the game. We also have our Mister B's Pancake House
play of the game in that big touchdown pass to
Lucas Johnson that looks like the leading candidate right now.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
On third down the ground option, laf Grimmer keeps it
and he's close to a first down.
Speaker 2 (01:35:46):
Looks like they're gonna give it to him.
Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
Wow, great spot there.
Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
Sean Haley came up from his safety spot to make
the tackle, but they'll give him four yards and a
consecutive first downs for spring Lake. Which is going to
be the last play of the third court or so.
After thirty six minutes. Our score Reese Puffer nineteen spring
Lake zero. Tom and I will be back with the
final twelve minutes after this. This is the LMCU Lake
Shore Game of the Week. On one oh seven m
(01:36:11):
us the Moose, We're back for the fourth quarter in
the LMCU Lake Short Game of the Week, Reese Puffer
leading spring Lake nineteen to nothing. Lakers have the ball
first in ten of their own forty three yard line.
Grimmer back to pass. He's got all kinds of time.
He wants to go deep. Marvin Moore was able to
break it up. Multiple flags down. He was trying to
(01:36:32):
throw to Landon O'Donnell. It's incomplete, but we'll check the penalty.
Speaker 3 (01:36:37):
Yeah, they're gonna get the Rockets for pass interference that
time in a good call.
Speaker 4 (01:36:41):
No need to grab the receiver there.
Speaker 3 (01:36:43):
He was double covered, but they definitely grabbed the receiver
when the ball was in the air. Easy call for
the official, and that's gonna give the Lakers a first
down and move them into Reese Puffer territory.
Speaker 1 (01:36:57):
Well, just eleven minutes fifty five seconds to play in
this game and down three scores, Springlake is gonna have
to score on this drive to have any kind of
chance in this game. And now they are first and
ten on the Respuffer forty two yard line and they
have opened it up a little and started to throw Tom.
But that pass interference call has been their most positive
play on a pass situation here in the second half.
Speaker 3 (01:37:17):
Yeah, I'm just impressed with the Puffer defense. They're in
the right place on every play. I think that's the
result of getting burned so much last week. They're really
look sharp tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:37:27):
And they're gonna run option to the right Trass because
they able to get around Hilling in the backfield and
gain something there. He's down to about the forty yard line,
So it's a two yard gain. Marvin Moore cal millis
over there. But pretty nice play by Trass and get
something out of that.
Speaker 3 (01:37:41):
Yeah, you're right, and you mentioned it a couple of
times in the first half. Sam Hill in there for
Reese Buffer. Even though he didn't make the tackle there,
he forced Trass to go bowl way out in the
backfield and that allowed the rest of Reese Spuffer's defense
to catch up and make him play and stop him
to just a two yard gain.
Speaker 1 (01:38:01):
So, second and eight on the forty clock, running eleven
sixteen to play in the game, Reese Buffer leading spring
Lake nineteen to nothing. Smee's in motion, s Pat Grimmer
back to pass. He's got a complete O'Donnell. He's inside
the thirty and out to about the twenty seven yard line.
I guess that's Alex Beaca six. It's nine instead of six.
(01:38:23):
So moving down to the twenty seven, first and ten
spring Lake.
Speaker 3 (01:38:26):
All right, so the Lakers showing a little bit of
life here. Jay down nineteen to nothing. But obviously they
need to score. They need to score quickly. But for
them just to get into the end zone the way
things have been going tonight would be huge.
Speaker 1 (01:38:39):
They drove down to the twenty yard line inside the
twenty yard line of their last drive of the second quarter,
but on fourth and ten had an incomplete pass to
end the half. Here's an option to the left back
has got a room inside the twenty down to.
Speaker 2 (01:38:50):
About the nineteen yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:38:51):
A nice pickup of eight on first down for Alex Baca,
Who's just been a warrior out there for spring Lake tonight.
He's been on the field almost every play here. He's
asked going to come out carrying the ball, catching the ball,
making tackles on defense.
Speaker 3 (01:39:06):
You're right, he's on one of the senior leaders for
this spring Lake team, and this is a huge game
for them. They started out one and oh you know,
they big win over Fruitport. Didn't look good last week
their offense hasn't looked good tonight, but they're looking to
get on the board.
Speaker 1 (01:39:20):
Here, second to two from the nineteen yard line, Grimmer
back to pass. He's got time, rolling right, throwing for
the end zone, looking for O'Donnell. It's over his head
and incomplete, and it'll be third down, but third and
very short.
Speaker 3 (01:39:34):
Yeah, that time, O'Donnell was well covered down the field,
but Grimmer extended the play by rolling out to the right,
and O'Donnell was able to get open in the end zone.
Speaker 4 (01:39:43):
And then Grimmer just overthrew him. He had him, but
he just a little bit over his head.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
That's like sort of a fail, a missed opportunity there
for spring Lake.
Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
So spring Lake needs to get inside. I had the
eighteen yard line for a first down. They'll scrimmage from
just inside the nineteen and Grimm are gonna go right
at the middle of the quarterback sneak. He's got a
first down. Looks like he's close to the fifteen. They
will move the chains here. Nine to fifty five to
play in the game, spring Lake gets a new set
of downs.
Speaker 3 (01:40:17):
All right again, spring Lake. The clock is just tick
tick ticking away, you know, that's a.
Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
It's sort of a secondary concern.
Speaker 3 (01:40:25):
I guess you would say at this point their remain
focus is to try to get in the end zone.
But they all they need to score, not just once,
they need to score three times.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
Nine minutes, thirty five seconds to play. Reese Buffer leads
spring Lake nineteen. Nothing to give us to Lawrence right
at the middle on first down. He's got two maybe
three the spot at about the thirteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:40:46):
Cow Millis made another play for the Rockets. It'll be
second down.
Speaker 4 (01:40:50):
Yeah again Millis. We're just saying his name over and
over again.
Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
Another one of these underclassmen for the Rockets having a
great game.
Speaker 4 (01:41:04):
It'll be the.
Speaker 2 (01:41:05):
Thirteenth play of this drive for spring Lake.
Speaker 1 (01:41:08):
That's taking nearly six minutes off the clock, but the
Lakers don't want to be taking time off the clock.
Down three scores to pitch is to Oliver Smeeze over
the right side. He's got a first down, he's inside
the five. It'll be first in golden Smeeze has done
a nice shot, running hard here, coming in as a spit.
Speaker 2 (01:41:22):
Uh give back a little time.
Speaker 3 (01:41:25):
Yeah, I agree that, But the Smeeze boys, they're they're short,
but they are they can move and they got great
football instincts. And all of a sudden spring Lake here
what we're at the forty yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:41:39):
Lawrence behind Grimmer. He gets to carry right up the middle. Oh, Daryl,
Lawrence didn't get much. In fact, he might have lost
the yard. Looks like Javon Plumber was in the middle
of that for the Rockets second down in goal.
Speaker 3 (01:41:49):
Yeah, Plumber, the defensive tackle for Reese Buffer all over
him the minute he got the ball.
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
Uh, he greeted him there right in the hole. This
a Javon Plumber.
Speaker 3 (01:41:59):
Nathan all the way, Noah Sapone, Ben Adams, Yeah, Ben
Adams is front line for Reeze Puffer.
Speaker 4 (01:42:05):
Really played well all night.
Speaker 1 (01:42:07):
Well, that's one thing we can talk about time is
we have a timeout on the field here. Reeve Buffer
is gonna call time out to reset their defense and
second and goal from the five. We talk about how
young Reeese Puffer is at these skill positions. But their
offensive line all seniors. Their defensive line same guys. Yes,
you know they'll miss those guys. Those guys have been
huge tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:42:26):
Yeah, And that's that's one of the challenges in high
school football, you know, trying to get it all on
the same page. You know, you want to have a
year where you have sort of like last year for
Reez Puffer, they had seniors all over the field, had
a great year. You know, this year they got young
players all over the field. But that's gonna be the
challenge maybe moving forward next year is replacing all those linemen.
But I've just been real impressed with Reez Puffer. I
(01:42:48):
guess that's one of the things. When you play tough teams,
you play the Forest Hill Central, you play Caledonia, you
get better, I mean you get better, and then you
play maybe a team quite up to that caliber, and
you can have a game like they're having here tonight,
nineteen to nothing lead here in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:43:06):
Well, this is their second game of a four game
homestand they'll have Grand Rapids Union coming to town next week.
I'm sorry, it's a three game homes and of Grandma's
Union coming into town next week to open. Okay greenplay
before they go two Forces Northern in two weeks. So
on second goal from the five grimmer under center, he's
gonna get up and look to the sideline here for
a play change Oliver Smeethe is on the wing to
(01:43:29):
the left, Gabe Trask right, Lawrence directly behind Grimmer who's
under center.
Speaker 2 (01:43:34):
He's going to pitch it to Smeeeze running right.
Speaker 1 (01:43:35):
Smeez is gonna be into the end zone five yards
for Oliver Smieths. Spring Lake on the board for the
first time tonight as the Lakers cut into that Reese
Puffer lead.
Speaker 3 (01:43:45):
Wow, nice job that time by the right side of
the offensive line. Just dominating on that play Ethan Lissman.
It's the tackle over there on the right side along
with Brady Hill at guard. That was just very easy
there for Smeeze right in five yard run for the touchdown.
Speaker 4 (01:44:03):
Spring Lake is on the board and looks like they're
gonna kick the extra point here.
Speaker 1 (01:44:06):
I would go for two because eight and eight would
get you within a field goal, but they are gonna
tip the extra point Logan stray in to do so.
The kick is up and it is good. So our
new score is Ree Puffer nineteen spring Lake seven, eight
minutes and seven seconds to play in the ballgame. Will
step aside. This is the LMCU Lake Shore Game of
the Week. On one oh seven, mus Boost Trey is
(01:44:30):
gonna squib it on side, but Reez Puffer was ready
for it.
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
Rockets fall on it. M C McLaurin right there to
do it.
Speaker 1 (01:44:40):
For the Rockets, and Reez Puffer gets the ball back.
Nineteen to seven is our score. The Lakers just went
seventy nine yards on fifteen plays, took six minutes thirty
six seconds off the clock. Oliver Smeeth's five yard touchdown
run to get the Lakers on the board for the
first time tonight. And that's another fifty dollars donated by
LMCU to Kids Food Basket and two hundred dollars that
(01:45:02):
will be donated from tonight's game. So now Tom the
Rocket's going to go to work on the clock here,
still up two scores with just eight oh seven to play.
Speaker 3 (01:45:09):
Good news for spring Lake as he scored a touchdown.
The bad news it took him more than half a
quarter to do it.
Speaker 1 (01:45:14):
So Bryce Muskeven on first down, running right, he's got
at least four he's inside the forty five, close to
the forty four yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:45:22):
Number nine, give him six yards on first down.
Speaker 3 (01:45:26):
Yeah again, nice job. There is the spring Lake. It's
like they know what Reez Puffer is gonna do. They
still can't stop it now. That was just a simple,
simple power play to the right and a good surge by.
Speaker 4 (01:45:37):
The offensive line. Quick six yard game.
Speaker 1 (01:45:41):
Colin Aarons has checked in on the defensive line at
one defensive end for the Lakers, who appear to be
playing short handed with no Carson Hine and no Tag Kelly.
Give his Bryce Muskeve it over the right side again.
He's inside the forty. He's got a first down to
the thirty seven. And I tell you a lot of
candidates for the Player of the Game tonight, but Bryce
muskive And has got to be inder some consideration.
Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
He said, played really well as a sophomore.
Speaker 3 (01:46:03):
Oh yeah, I think, no question. He'd be the probably
the top offensive choice. Mason Dark's played very well. But
the and then on defense, you know, we've said Cale Millis,
and how about the big guy up front, We've said
his name, Javon Plumber.
Speaker 4 (01:46:17):
So you're right, Reeese Puffer. A lot of candidates for
Player of the Game.
Speaker 2 (01:46:21):
Stay tuned.
Speaker 1 (01:46:21):
In the postgame show, we will name our Bluewater Cabinetry
Designed Player of the Game. Bluewater Cabinetry and Design. The Lakeshorts,
trusted kitchen and bath provider, proud to be a supporter
of high school football. First and ten from the thirty seven,
it's Bryce Muskevin right up the middle. He's got at
least six close to seven is He's down near the
thirty yard line.
Speaker 6 (01:46:38):
Tackle by number seventy six.
Speaker 1 (01:46:44):
Ryan Grimm made the stop for the Lakers. But it's
second and short and the clock continues to run. Now
inside seven minutes to play. At six point forty left
in the game, Reese Buffer with a twelve point lead
and very happy to just run the play clock down
at each play and continue run the footba.
Speaker 4 (01:47:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:47:00):
One of the things we mentioned early in the game
is how warm it is out there tonight. We thought
someone might get worn down. Right now, it looks like
this Spring Lake defense starting to wear down.
Speaker 1 (01:47:09):
Here two tight ends Sage Cheat Crest in motion, Elliot
Snyder and there as well. They're gonna run behind both
of them. Muscoven's got a first down in more but
we have a flag coming in. Muscoven fighting his way
down close to the eighteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
But this one's going to come back.
Speaker 1 (01:47:22):
And this has been the biggest area of concern for rees,
Popford and I who's played pretty well, but in another
holding call and it's going to back them up and
stop the clock at six oh nine.
Speaker 3 (01:47:31):
You're right, we don't have the tally here of the
total number of penalties, but I'm guessing somewhere in the
ballpark of twelve or even a Baker's dozen at this point,
and that's certainly something that Cody cater is going to
have to address. But they haven't turned the ball over
at all, but just way too many penalties.
Speaker 1 (01:47:52):
Neither team has turned the ball over tonight, we'll see
the tight ends check out and more receivers come in
more and eat musk have in return. So it'll be
four wide here for Mason Dark on second down in
thirteen at the Spring Lake thirty as sophomore Bryce Muskvin
to his left trips to the wide side, left.
Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
Johnson the lone receiver to the right.
Speaker 1 (01:48:14):
He's gonna look for Johnson on this op route, but
throwing a little high and incomplete good coverage there by
Jack Nash, the sophomore for the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (01:48:24):
Yes, I noticed the Mason Dark. His throws have been
a little high throughout the night. The receivers have done
a good job going up and getting them that time
a little bit too high. It's incomplete. But more importantly
for spring Lake, it stops the clock. With just under
six minutes left in this game, trailing by twelve, they're
(01:48:44):
desperate to get the ball back Jay.
Speaker 1 (01:48:45):
Two new corners out there for spring Lake, not only
Jack Nash, but Reed Grimmer has checked in. He's the
corner on the wide side at the top of the formation.
Seacrest goes in motion dark back to pass.
Speaker 2 (01:48:57):
He's gonna go deeper.
Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
Johnson ball gonna be overthrown and incomplete. And now it's
fourth down, and I would assume respufferable punt here. They
are on the plus side of the field at the
spring Lake forty. But it is fourth and thirteen. You
have a two score lead. You can play a little
field position here. Your defense been good.
Speaker 2 (01:49:12):
All night long.
Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
Yeah, kind of interesting play call. I thought they're from
Cody Cater When they're trying to chew up the clock.
Seems like they would have had an opportunity to do that. Instead,
they take a shot down the field to Lucas Johnson,
well covered by spring Lake, and it looks like they're
gonna go for it.
Speaker 1 (01:49:28):
Here, they're gonna line up to go for My guess
is that Dark's gonna draw back in punt or they're
gonna try to draw him off sides. Yeah, Dark's gonna
drop back and now he's gonna punt. Spring Lake is
gonna sense smeeze back at the last minute. But this
is gonna bounce inside the fifteen. A great punt inside
the five. It'll be down at about the three yard line,
Mason Dark. A great kick there, and now Spring like
(01:49:52):
could be ninety seven yards away from crawling closer.
Speaker 3 (01:49:56):
You know, after a great kick like that, it makes
you wonder that might move to Arc a little bit
closer to our blue Water cabinet tree player of the game.
He's doing a little bit of everything here, So that'll
be a tough decision we have to make here. But
right now for spring Lake again, there's another good news
bad news situation here, Jason Hutting.
Speaker 4 (01:50:15):
The good news they got the ball back.
Speaker 3 (01:50:17):
The bad news is they're ninety eight yards away from
the end zone and they really haven't had any big
plays tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:50:24):
They're gonna have to have one here.
Speaker 1 (01:50:27):
Well, they took six minutes in thirty six seconds and
their last drive to score and go seventy nine yards.
Now they're ninety eight yards away. They certainly don't have
six thirty six. There's only five thirty one left in
the game and the Lakers need two scores, so they're
gonna have to find a way to make some big plays.
Eighty eight Alex Albarado, another senior, has checked in on
that defensive line for the Rockets. Res Buffer's been very
(01:50:49):
good on the offensive and defensive lines tonight. They've rotated
guys in there as well. Javon Plumber is a guy
that's done on both sides. We saw Dalton Ridoso, another
senior number fifty five, played at guard for him in
the last offensive possession. You know this coaching staff for Respuffer,
they're trying to rotate some guys in here because they've
got a lot of guys bowing both ways. They've done
it Masterfleet. Tonight, first intent for spring Lake on their
(01:51:10):
own four yard line and the pitch goes to the right,
it's gonna be Batca and he's got a yard maybe
to look like cal Millis over there to make the
play for the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (01:51:23):
Yeah again cal Millis and Schneider, I mean again, this
Reese Puffer defense there. They've been in the right place
all game long, and I've been saying all night, when
are we gonna see Reed Grimmer air the ball out?
Speaker 4 (01:51:36):
They have to hear, don't they jay? Second time?
Speaker 1 (01:51:38):
They're gonna run out of time second and in their
own five or hundred five minutes to go, they're down twelve,
and Grimmer will throw it, throws it quickly, complete complete
to number six, landed o'donnald. He's got a first down
to the fifteen. It'll be a ten yard game. Clock
will stop momentarily as they move the chains, but it's
gonna start up again quickly. Spring Lake still does have
all three of their timeouts.
Speaker 4 (01:51:59):
Nice completion.
Speaker 3 (01:52:00):
Let's see if they maybe fake that, try to get
something further down the field here.
Speaker 4 (01:52:05):
Now that they're out of their own end zone, spring Lake.
Speaker 1 (01:52:07):
Going quickly, and they're gonna run the full back dive
right up the middle. No, it's Grimmer a cupet and
Grimmer's got a first down. He's over the twenty five
out to the twenty six yard line. Number three senior
Marquise Longmire checked in and the secondary and made that tackle.
Also in there for the Rockets is number four, Marie Davis,
another senior. But that's eleven yards and a first down
for Grimmer.
Speaker 3 (01:52:26):
Ye had great open field tackle there by Marquise Longmire
kind of somersaulted reed Grimmer, who if he could have
broken that tackle, he had a lot of green space there.
Speaker 1 (01:52:34):
Spring Lake going quickly with four to sixteen to go.
Grimmer back to pass, looking deep, trying to get it
to Chase Sieaguard who laid out it almost made an
incredible catch at the Reese buffer thirty five, but he
just could not survive the ground. What an athletic play
by Chase Seaguard, But it's incomplete.
Speaker 4 (01:52:51):
What would you say there? Jay close? But no cigar?
Oh sorry, very well played, well, thank you, But hey,
what a great by that kid laying out.
Speaker 1 (01:53:02):
Oh so the clock stops the incomplete pass. Four minutes,
eleven seconds to go. Spring Lake's got it, second to
ten of their own twenty seven yard line. They need
two scores down twelve at nineteen to seven. Grimmer under center,
He's got badcun motion. He's throwing for backcu It's incomplete,
(01:53:22):
out of bounds to be third down.
Speaker 3 (01:53:24):
Yeah, on that one, he was trying to hook up
with him on that little wheel route kind of. I
think Grimmer thought that he was gonna keep going down
the field and so he led him.
Speaker 4 (01:53:34):
A little bit and Batca had other ideas and it
sailed incomplete.
Speaker 1 (01:53:40):
Yeah, that wheel route such an effective play in football.
But Spring Lakes tried a couple of times tonight and
they just haven't been able to get a go. In
credit that Rockets defense, I mean, they've been really solid tonight.
Third and ten for spring Lake, four h six to
play in the game, Lakers down twelve at nineteen to seven.
Grimmer straight back to pass with time looking over the
middle for Baka. He has hit by Ethansvin and we
will get a pass interference call. He was looking for
(01:54:03):
Gabe Trask at about the forty four yard line, but
this will be pass interference on Reeese Puffer.
Speaker 4 (01:54:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:54:09):
That time, you know they say both the defensive back
and the receiver they both have a shot at the ball,
but not when you had when you go in front
of the receiver and cut off his route to the ball.
Speaker 4 (01:54:20):
And that's exactly what happened there.
Speaker 3 (01:54:22):
Muskevin just a little too quick, hit the receiver right
as the ball was coming and I think that was
a good pass interference call.
Speaker 1 (01:54:29):
You know, Tom, A point you've made a couple of
times tonight is how spring Lake hasn't had any big
plays on offense. They haveing any explosive plays, and that's
been Ree Puffer's achilles heel through these first two weeks
is giving up big plays, and they've done a great
job not letting that happen.
Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
Tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:54:44):
You had great adjustments by the defensive staff and the
defensive players for Reese Buffer.
Speaker 1 (01:54:48):
So on first and ten from the forty two, Grim
are gonna pass, He's being chased by Adams, gets away.
Now he's gonna run it, and he slips down near
midfield and finally hit down at about midfield, so he
gets eight. But the clock is running under four minutes
to go, three forty six left.
Speaker 2 (01:55:03):
Spring Lake's got to go in a hurry. They still
have all of their timeouts.
Speaker 3 (01:55:06):
Yeah, it's only second down and two. But the bigger
problem now for the Lakers is that clock down about
three and a half minutes to play and you're down
twelve points needing two scores. That this clock is their
biggest opponent in addition to the Rockets.
Speaker 1 (01:55:20):
Right now, second and two and midfield, Trasco's in motion,
gets the pitch. He's got a first down and more
Trusk is gone, Truss to the thirty, gave trust to
the ten five and is gonna be dragged down at
the two yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
Marvin Moore save the tackle. But that's the big play
spring Lake's been looking for.
Speaker 4 (01:55:36):
Yeah, no question about it. How about is that a.
Speaker 3 (01:55:41):
I'm trying Oh yeah, Gabe Trask, I'm sorry, I was
trying to looking.
Speaker 4 (01:55:44):
For his first name there on the roster. But great job.
Speaker 3 (01:55:46):
They're finding a little seam out on the right edge
right in front of the spring Lake bench all the
way down to what the one yard line here forty
yard Lake could cut it, cut it to four five
point game if they're.
Speaker 4 (01:55:58):
Able to score.
Speaker 1 (01:55:58):
And here comes Oliver Smeeth's check a wing back, but
it's gonna be a quarterback sneak right up the middle
with Grimmer. They say he did not get in, So
that's a valuable time gonna be lost here for spring Lake.
Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
It's gonna be second and goal from inside the one.
Speaker 1 (01:56:12):
The clock is running at two fifty five to play
in the game, spring Lake down twelve points, threatening to
draw closer, But they're losing time here. Two forty four
and ticking to go in the game, nineteen seven res
Puffer with the lead.
Speaker 3 (01:56:28):
Yeah, they're losing valuable time here. There's getting close to
two and a half minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:56:35):
Grimmer is under center with Lawrence behind him. Long snap count.
Grimmer gonna sneak again. This time he's in for the score,
in for the touchdown, and spring Lake draws to within
six with two twenty five to go in the game.
Red Grimmer one yard touchdown run, extra point pending.
Speaker 4 (01:56:53):
Wow, nice job there by spring Lake.
Speaker 3 (01:56:55):
They they opened it up, soften the defense maybe a
little bit by throwing the ball, and I think that's
a key for them moving forward this season when they
throw it. That backed up Respuffer a little bit and
gave just enough room for Gabe Trast to make that
big run all the way down to the one yard
line and then Grimmer there with the one yard plunge.
We got ourselves a little excitement here coming to the
(01:57:17):
finish day, straight in for.
Speaker 1 (01:57:19):
The point after it is up and it is good
and our score now is Reese Puff for nineteen spring
Lake fourteen. With two minutes and twenty five seconds to
play in the game in time. Now, this goes back
to the decision to kick extra points here. Had spring
Lake tried for and converted two point conversions here in
this fourth quarter, they'd be within three now. Instead they're
within five. So with two twenty five to go, they
(01:57:40):
need to get the football back and score a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (01:57:43):
Yeah, you're right, that's a Cody Mallory could certainly be
questioned for that. Right now, they're more worried about this
onside kick. They tried an onside kick after the last touchdown.
It wasn't a very good attempt. It really didn't bounce
up in the air or do any of the things
you want an onside.
Speaker 4 (01:57:59):
Kick to do. It just went right to the Reez
Puffer defender who jumped on it.
Speaker 3 (01:58:05):
So let's see if they're able to execute a better
onside kick. It looks like they might be going in
the opposite direction this time.
Speaker 2 (01:58:12):
It felt like the last one was more of a surprise.
Speaker 1 (01:58:15):
There was still what nine minutes left in the game,
and they didn't necessarily overload a side here. I think
everybody in the building knows this is going to be
an on side kick from Logan Stray puts his foot
into it.
Speaker 2 (01:58:28):
It is bouncing and it did not go ten yards,
but Ree Puffer falls on it anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:58:31):
Luke Johnson at the forty eight yard line, so the
Rockets get the football with two twenty five to go
in a five point lead. Spring Lake does have all
of their timeouts remaining on l That Reed Grimmer one
yard touchdown run is another fifty dollars for Kids' Food Basket.
Kids Food Basket is our official nonprofit for the MSCU

so they can reach their full potential.
Speaker 2 (01:59:09):

Dot com one oh seven mus dot com and donate
any amount will help. One dollar, two dollars, five dollars,
whatever you can give is very appreciated, and there's a
place you can leave a shout out and we will
do that for you on the radio. That touchdown drive
for spring Lake went ninety six yards ten plays, took
(01:59:32):
three minutes, six seconds off the clock, Reed Grimmer one
yard touchdown run, extra point from Logan Stray makes it
nineteen fourteen. Puffer's got the ball now first and ten
in the spring Lake forty eight yard line. In the
give over the right side to Bryce Musk been huge hole.
Bryce Musk cove into the thirty. Bryce muscome into the twenty.
Bryce muskavin into the end zone and that will just
(01:59:53):
about do it.
Speaker 2 (01:59:54):
The sophomore putting this one on ice with two fifteen
to play.
Speaker 3 (01:59:59):
Wow, you talk about a tire defenses out there right now.
We had this was a defensive struggle. Jay six nothing
at halftime, we didn't have a lot of money going
to kids' food basket, and all of a sudden, I
think the defense is just wore down in this heat
and after spring late got it back to within a
five point game. The sophomore Bryce muskm and just a
(02:00:20):
simple off tackle run to the right, turns the corner,
breaks the tackle by the sideline into the end zone
and that will just about do it. O.
Speaker 1 (02:00:30):
When Ritzma won for three on extra points tonight, into
try to make it two for four, high snap, but
Dark gets it down.
Speaker 2 (02:00:37):
Rizma's kick is.
Speaker 1 (02:00:38):
Up and it is good and that makes the score
Reese Puffer twenty six, spring Lake fourteen.
Speaker 2 (02:00:45):
Two minutes and fifteen seconds.
Speaker 1 (02:00:47):
To play in this game, and now Tom the Lakers
are gonna need a bit of a miracle. They're gonna
have to get the ball back. Score twice here in
the final two to fifteen.
Speaker 3 (02:00:56):
Yeah, wow, that was a spring Lake and they got
within striking distance. That didn't take long, did it? One
play and Reese Puffer takes back control of this game
a twelve point lead. They do have to kick it
back off to spring Lake, and yeah, this has just
been crazy. We saw almost no scoring at all, just
(02:01:18):
one touchdown in the whole first half. And then here
in the last five minutes, well actually four minutes of
this game, we've seen twenty one points.
Speaker 1 (02:01:30):
We have a rapid radio scoreboard update. West Catholic leads
at South Christian thirty one to twenty eight after three quarters.
Our game here going really fast, a lot of games
around the area. Just now getting to the fourth quarter.
We have two fifteen to play in this one, and
ritzm is gonna kick it deep, kicking it deep to
Batka who waits for it at his own eleven yard line.
He drops it and picks it back up now running
to the right, but it'll be hit by Cal Millison
(02:01:53):
dropped at the sixteen yard line. That Reese Puffer scoring
drive one play forty eight yards took ten seconds. Bryce
Muskvin forty eight yard touchdown run and another fifty dollars
to kids' food basket. That's three hundred dollars tonight, donated
by LMCU to help nourish the kids to reach their
(02:02:15):
full potential.
Speaker 3 (02:02:16):
Crazy game, but Brett Pakita has up at Rockford. Rockford
had a ten to nothing lead. Grandville comes back and
scores the next twelve points.
Speaker 4 (02:02:23):
They lead twelve to ten.
Speaker 3 (02:02:25):
Rockford has scored twenty points in a row. Rockford leads
Grandville thirty to twelve.
Speaker 2 (02:02:31):
On first down, Grimmer, rolling left, wants to throw. He's
got time.
Speaker 1 (02:02:34):
Throws back up across his body, complete the landin O'Donnell
across the thirty yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:02:38):
That'll be a spring Lake first down number six.
Speaker 3 (02:02:41):
Nice arm strength there by reed Grimmer rolling to his right,
throwing back across his body, just throw throws a diamond
there right across the middle of the field.
Speaker 4 (02:02:51):
Yeah, I just for the life of me, I just I.
Speaker 3 (02:02:52):
Don't understand why they don't throw the ball more with
a great senior quarterback like Reed Grimmer.
Speaker 1 (02:02:58):
Smee's in there in motion and ten again, Grimm are
gonna roll left and throwing deep looking for Batka in
the pass will be incomplete at the Reese Puffer thirty
yard line. So the clock does stop one minute forty
seconds to play. The Lakers do have all three timeouts,
but they trail by twelve twenty six to fourteen.
Speaker 3 (02:03:18):
Yeah, at least we're seeing a Reed Grimmer throwing the
ball down the field. He's got a great arm.
Speaker 7 (02:03:22):
That time.
Speaker 3 (02:03:23):
He just let lead Batka just a little bit too
much and it falls incomplete. But you know, it stops
the clock, and that's the important thing here. Trailing by
twelve points.
Speaker 2 (02:03:35):
Second and ten, Grimmer under center, and we gotta whistle.
Clock is gonna stop.
Speaker 1 (02:03:40):
Hudson Roberts, a junior defensive lineman in there for the
Rockets up front, as is Jabon Plummer, who's been up
there all night doing yeoman's work for Reese Buffer. We've
got to fall start here, so it's gonna back them
up five. It'll be second and fifteen. Yeah, second and
(02:04:01):
fifteen ball in the twenty six yard line.
Speaker 4 (02:04:05):
Good game at a Grand Haven tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:04:08):
In the third quarter, West Otawa leads Grand Haven fourteen
to thirteen. Montague has extended their lead forty one to
fourteen over Orchard View.
Speaker 1 (02:04:17):
Spring Like a go to West Catholic next week, rest
Puff will be right back. You to play granted a junior.
Both teams opening divisional play in the Oka Conference. Grimmer
throwing deep looking for Chase Seaguard and there wre five
Grease Puffer defenders are surrounding him.
Speaker 2 (02:04:30):
Ball falls harmlessly and complete.
Speaker 4 (02:04:32):
Yeah, you've heard of a double coverage or even triple coverage.
What do you call that?
Speaker 3 (02:04:36):
Quintuple quintuplet coverage? He was blanketed, He was blanketed. It
was that was almost six really there, You could have
said there were six defenders surrounding him on that play.
Speaker 1 (02:04:50):
The Rockets certainly in a prevent type defense with lots
of defensive backs and gonna be expecting pass here. Third
down and fifteen for spring Lake. Ninety seconds left, Lakers
down two scores. Smeeze in motion, Grimmer back to pass
three man rush, so he's got lots of time. Grimmer
(02:05:12):
will set and throw from his own twenty two looking
for Oliver Smeethe who catches the ball. But was he
in bounds at the respuff for forty two?
Speaker 2 (02:05:18):
Well, they said he was, They said he was. They'll
spot it at the forty three thirty one yards and
spring Lake moves the chains and they hang on.
Speaker 4 (02:05:27):
Wow, great coverage down the field. Nobody opened there.
Speaker 3 (02:05:31):
Somehow, somehow Smeeze was able to come down with that
ball and come down with it in bounds.
Speaker 4 (02:05:36):
Give him credit.
Speaker 1 (02:05:38):
So first intent from the forty three Grimmer again back
to pass with time, rolling to his right.
Speaker 2 (02:05:46):
No pressure at all he has all day here.
Speaker 1 (02:05:48):
Now he's gonna roll all the way back to the
left respuff for dropping eight and coverage. Grimmer gonna throw
to the end zone and incomplete. Nice play by Ethan
Muskevin to break it up. Oliver Sneeze was the ended
receiver in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
Yeah, that was absolutely great coverage there in the end zone.
He arrived right when the ball arrived. A clean defensive
play that time. Grimmer, it looked like he was over
the line of scrimmage when he threw that ball. No
flag on it, but it goes incomplete A Reese.
Speaker 1 (02:06:18):
Buffer continues to rotate defensive lineman, but they just have
the front three rushing dropping eight into coverage. So we
see number sixty six Gus Pujos Siegel, the junior who's
played really well tonight, getting a lot of rotation, a
lot of snaps on rotation for the Rockets. It will
be second down to ten for spring Lake. One minute
five seconds to play. The ball is on the forty
(02:06:39):
three yard line of the Rockets. Grimmer under center, He's
got Trask in motion straight back to pass. He slips
and Javon Plumber's got him at midfield. That's the second
sack of the game for Javon Plumber, and Springlake will
use their first time out with fifty seven seconds to
play in the ball game and they're faced with third
and long.
Speaker 3 (02:06:59):
That's a game that's a name we've said many times tonight.
Javon Plumber, number fifty two, the senior defensive tackle play
in a whale level football game for the Rockets.
Speaker 1 (02:07:10):
I do not envu tonight, TK, Bryce Muskevin Javon Plumber.
There's lots of great options for our blue Water cabinetry
and design.
Speaker 4 (02:07:20):
Play of the game.
Speaker 1 (02:07:21):
We'll have that coming up on the postgame show, we'll
also have the drive of the game, which is brought
to us by Bet and Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC in Muskegan.
Will check the Rapid Radio's scoreboard and more. Don't forget

Seventeen for spring Lake ball is at midfield. There are
fifty seven seconds to play in the game. If the
(02:08:06):
Lakers have any help here, they're gonna have to convert
the first down and probably score real quick. Grimmer rolling
right wants to throw and he's gonna go to bounds.
Sage seacrests force him out of bounds. It's the loss
of three, maybe four back to the forty six. It'll
be fourth down and twenty one coming up for spring
Lake a little bit later tonight, we'll have our game
of the Week archives at the Trinity Health High School
(02:08:29):
Football page and you can listen back to every second
of this action as well as Brett Pakitta and Buck Gino,
who have a great game going on at Rockford with
the Rams leading Granville thirty to twelve at last check.
Speaker 2 (02:08:40):
That'll be available there as well. All right, here's the.
Speaker 1 (02:08:44):
Game, fourth and twenty one for spring Lake on their
own forty six fifty seconds to play. Grimm are gonna throw.
He's rolling left, being chased by Seacrest. Now he's gonna
stop and roll back to the right. Javon Plumber's gonna
get him. Javon Plummer brings him down at the twenty
six yard line, his third sack of the game, and
(02:09:05):
the Rockets are gonna win it for the first time.
Speaker 2 (02:09:08):
At twenty twenty four. They're thirty nine seconds away with
a twenty six to fourteen lead.
Speaker 3 (02:09:13):
Wow, looking, how excited that Javon Plummer is. You gotta
love a defensive lineman getting a little glory. They don't
get a whole lot of it, but Javon Plummer clinches
the game with the sack you know for Reed Grimmer there.
It's kind of hard to complete a pass when there's
eight defensive backs, which is what Reez Buffer was playing
with there. Just nobody opened down the field and uh
(02:09:35):
Reez Puffer's gonna win this game. A very impressive win
for the Rockets. Jay I thought their defense set the
tone for the game. I thought they want it up
front and Bryce Muskavin, you know, when the defense got
a little bit tired, he was like the energizer bunny.
He just kept going and going and going, and that
final forty eight yard touchdown run put it away.
Speaker 1 (02:09:58):
Springlake does have two timeouts, but down to twelve points,
Dark's just gonna take a knee. Cody Mallory will not
take a time out and that's gonna allow.
Speaker 2 (02:10:07):
The clock to run out.
Speaker 1 (02:10:08):
On Week three of the high school football season, and
Reeze Puffer will climb into the win column, improving to
one and two in the season. Spring Lake will fall
to one and two on the season, and both teams
will go their respective ways into the Okay Conference Divisional play.
The Rockets off to the ok Green where they will
host Grand Rapids Union.
Speaker 2 (02:10:28):
The Lakers off to the ok White where they will play.
Speaker 1 (02:10:30):
At West Catholic our final score Tonight Reeze Puffer twenty
six Spring Lake fourteen.
Speaker 2 (02:10:37):
Stay tuned.
Speaker 1 (02:10:40):
For the Schaefer Schwartz PLC postgame show coming up right
after this on the LMCU Lake Short Game of the
Week one oh seven m.
Speaker 2 (02:10:48):
Us the Moose.
Speaker 1 (02:10:52):
Reeze Puffer twenty six Spring Lake fourteen. It's a final
from Rockets City, the home team with their first win
of the twenty twenty four season. This is the Shaeffer
Schwartz PLC postgame show. If you have been injured in
an auto accident, make sure you have David Schaeffer on
your side. David Schaeffer born and raised in Muskegon County
(02:11:15):
and proud to be a supporter of high school football.
Let's take a look at the scoring summary from tonight's game.
It was the home standing Rockets that got on the
board first. With one minute ten seconds to play in
the first quarter, Bryce Muskavin a two yard touchdown run
for the sophomore.
Speaker 2 (02:11:34):
Extra point was blocked. It was six to nothing.
Speaker 1 (02:11:37):
We would stay that way until four minutes and forty
four seconds to play in the third quarter, when Reese
Buffer quarterback Junior Mason Dark had a two yard touchdown
run The extra point from Owen Ritzma made it thirteen
to nothing. Puffer then with two forty three to play
in the third quarter, Luke Johnson caught a sixty two
yard touchdown pass from Dark. The extra point was wide
(02:12:00):
left our score Reese Puffer nineteen and spring Lake nothing.
Speaker 2 (02:12:04):
And then the Lakers came alive.
Speaker 1 (02:12:05):
With eight oh seven to play in the game, Oliver
Smeeze the junior with a five yard touchdown run. Extra
point from Logan Stray made the score nineteen to seven,
and then with two twenty five to go, Reed Grimmer
a one yard touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:12:19):
Run for a nineteen fourteen game.
Speaker 1 (02:12:23):
Lakers crawled within five, but then after Reese Puffer recovered
an on side kick, the sophomore Bryce Muskeavin goes forty
eight yards to put this game away. Owen Rizmas extra
point made it twenty six to fourteen with two to
fifteen to play in the game, and that is our
final score.
Speaker 2 (02:12:39):
Tom kendra I.
Speaker 1 (02:12:40):
Thought Rees Puffer was really impressive defensively. We talked about
the first two weeks they struggled with the big play.
They had been good defensively the first two weeks but
couldn't stop the big play tonight really just the one
big play there in the fourth quarter with the run
to the one yard line that set up the Grimmer
TD to make it nineteen fourteen.
Speaker 2 (02:12:54):
But outside of that, they were really good.
Speaker 4 (02:12:55):
Yeah. I thought their defense was in position all game long.
Speaker 3 (02:12:59):
You know that stopping that option can be a challenge,
So you have to stop the dive back, then you
have to pay attention to the quarterback on the keeper,
then you have to cover the pitch man. And I
just thought the assignment football they were always in the
right place. They've got a lot of speed on that defense,
and they covered the field really well.
Speaker 4 (02:13:15):
They shut down spring Late for three and a half quarters.
Once spring Light finally got it going, it was too little,
too late.
Speaker 1 (02:13:23):

This is the Schaefer Schwartz PLC postgame show and we
need to pick a drive of the game, Tom Cat
or what do you have for us?
Speaker 4 (02:14:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:14:01):
Well, the drive I thought that really set the tone
was that first drive of the second half for Reese Puffer.
I mean, after a penalty on the kickoff return. Remember
Marvin Moore had a nice kickoff return about up to
the fifty yard line, but one of those many penalties
that Reeese Puffer had brought him back to the ten
yard line.
Speaker 4 (02:14:20):
And at that point it was just a six to
nothing lead.
Speaker 3 (02:14:24):
You thought they were pinned back while spring Lake might
get the ball and be able to tie or take
the lead in the game. Instead, Reeese Puffer goes ninety
yards and eleven plays almost exclusively on the ground, and
then it was Mason Dirk, the junior quarterback, takes it
in from two yards out. That drive chewed up seven
minutes and sixteen seconds.
Speaker 4 (02:14:44):
It took up most of that third quarter.
Speaker 3 (02:14:47):
The extra point was good and by Ritzima was good,
and so that drive, all of a sudden, it's thirteen
to nothing with just four forty four left in the
third quarter. So we will make that our bet and
Chevrolet Cadillac GMC Buick Drive of the Game.
Speaker 1 (02:15:03):
Drive the Game brought to you by Betting, GMC, Chevrolet,
Cadillac Buick and m Mischigan the GM Giant visit both
sides of Henry Street today.
Speaker 2 (02:15:12):
Plenty more to come.
Speaker 1 (02:15:13):
On the postgame show, we'll take a look at a
Rapid Rivers scoreboard update. We'll name our play of the
game and our Player of the game. This is the
LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week on one oh
seven m us the Moves. He's Buffer twenty six Spring
Lake fourteen.
Speaker 2 (02:15:31):
Our final score tonight from Rocket City.
Speaker 1 (02:15:34):
This is the Shaefer Schwartz PLC postgame Show. Let's take
a look at tonight's final stats with Tom.
Speaker 4 (02:15:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:15:41):
Well, the stats for the game rees Buffer doing most
of their work on the ground. They finished with three
hundred and sixteen total yards to two forty for spring Lake,
So the edge there for the Rockets. Bryce Muskovin the
sophomore doing most of the work, seventeen carries, one hundred
and eighty eight yards and two touchdowns. You know we
(02:16:02):
were talking about who was going to replace Brody Johnson
this year. I think we got our answer tonight. Jay
Bryce muskovin great speed. I mean he runs hard, but
when he gets the edge, he can turn it on
the after burners.
Speaker 4 (02:16:14):
Did that a few times tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:16:16):
So a big night for Bryce muskovin Lucas Johnson eighty
six receiving yards, including the big sixty two yard pass
play in the third quarter from.
Speaker 4 (02:16:26):
Mason Drake Mason Mason Dark. Yeah, sorry about that.
Speaker 3 (02:16:32):
Mason Dark finished six of eleven passing for ninety one yards.
Defensively for the Rockets, Wyatt Smith with seven tackles and
Cal Millis with six stops. Javon Plumber had three sacks
for the Rockets, and then for spring Lake they reed.
Grimmer didn't throw the ball a whole lot until the
(02:16:53):
fourth quarter. Then he threw it a lot. He finished
six of twenty one passing for one hundred and two yards.
Speaker 4 (02:17:01):
On the ground. The leading ball carrier ended up being
Gabe Trask. He had that big run in the fourth quarter.
He had eight carries for sixty five yards. Oliver Smeeths
was the leading receiver with thirty one receiving yards. Oliver
Smeez was also the leading tackler for spring Lake with
five stops.
Speaker 2 (02:17:20):
All right's time for the play of the game.
Speaker 1 (02:17:22):
Brought to you by Blue Water Cabinetry and designed the
Lake Shore's trusted kitchen and bath provider, Proud to be
a supporter of high school football. Tom, very difficult decision.
Who are we going with tonight?
Speaker 5 (02:17:33):
Well?
Speaker 3 (02:17:33):
Yeah, for the play of the game, it was we
didn't have a whole lot of are we looking at the.
Speaker 4 (02:17:38):
Player of the game or the play of the game?
Speaker 2 (02:17:40):
Player of the game.
Speaker 4 (02:17:41):
Oh, this is the player of the game.
Speaker 3 (02:17:42):
Okay, yeah, and in this one, you know, obviously defensively,
Reese Popper had some great candidates to choose. From Cale Millis,
we were saying his name over and over again. The
linebacker for Reese Popper did a great job. And then
how about Javon Plummer, the senior defensive tackle. Three sacks
in the game, including the game ending sack Marvin Moore.
(02:18:03):
That was another guy who had a great game on
both sides of the ball. But I think the breakout
performance was from the sophomore Bryce Muskovin. Again, seventeen carries,
one hundred and eighty eight yards, two touchdowns over ten
yards of carry. So Bryce Muskovin will win our Player
of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:18:23):
Honor hard Dog you Muscovo was great. I thought Plumber
was great too.
Speaker 1 (02:18:26):
A lot of candidates stuff were playing really well in
their first win in twenty twenty four, twenty six fourteen
over Spring Lake. Stay tuned, we still have the name
our Mister Beast Pancake House play of the game, and
we'll look at some very surprising and interesting scores and
the Rapid Radios scoreboard report as well. This is the
Schaeffer Schwartz PLC postgame Show. We'll be right back on
(02:18:48):
one oh seven m Us the Moose in like fourteen
the final score on the LMCU Lake Short Game of
the Week here one of seven and mus the Moos.
This is the Shaefer Schwartz PLC postgame Show and in
his time to announce our play of the game, brought
to us by mister P's Pancake House TK.
Speaker 3 (02:19:11):
Yeah, back to rees Buffer again. They did most of
their damage on the ground. They were running it to
Bryce Muskevin left, Bryce Muskevin right, and then it just
set up the big pass play from Mason Diark. This
was late in the third quarter. Reees Buffer was leading
at that time thirteen to nothing and a beautiful lofted
(02:19:32):
pass over the middle from Mason Dark sixty two yards
to Lucas Johnson.
Speaker 4 (02:19:37):
He had the big kickoff return last week. Tonight he
gets the Mister.
Speaker 3 (02:19:42):
Bee's Pancake House play of the game, a sixty two
yard touchdown reception from Mason Dark and that pretty much
put the game away for the Rockets.
Speaker 1 (02:19:51):
Mister Bee's Pancake House play of the game. Mister Bee's
Pancake House is celebrating fifty years serving the Muskegon area.
Time for a look at the out of town scoreboard
Rapid Radios out of town Scoreboard. Mona Shors gets a
big win tonight over flint Hammity forty nine to twelve
the final. Oak Ridge knocks off Man of Stee forty
(02:20:14):
nine to twenty two, Whitehall trailing Zealand West fifty four
to twenty nine at last check. Montague up big on
Orchard View Grabas Calock Central falls to Pontiac Notre Dame
Prep Tonite forty two to nothing the final and at
halftime we talked about how spring Lake or excuse me,
East Centwood was leading Caledonia thirty four to nothing.
Speaker 2 (02:20:35):
Last check. Caledonia had crawled it within six at thirty
four to twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (02:20:43):
That just goes to show the quick strike ability of
Brody Bets. Are there in that Caledonia offense. There's no
quit there. How about Mona Shores though, that's the game
that gets my attention. You know, they've been out of
the loop because they've traveled across the state three weeks
in a row.
Speaker 4 (02:20:56):
Now they come home. Talk about two big back to
back games.
Speaker 3 (02:21:00):
They're at home next Friday, Sailors salute against Byron Center.
That's a blockbuster game. That'll be the ninety six point
one game of the week, and then the following week
will be there at Hackley Stadium for that epic showdown
Mona Shores at Muskegan. So the Sailors looking really good.
We'll know a lot about them after the next two weeks.
Speaker 1 (02:21:22):
So we're gonna take a break, come back one final time,
wrap things up here from Rockets Stadium once again our
final score rees Puff for twenty six Spring Lake fourteen.
Speaker 2 (02:21:30):
This is the LMCU Lake Short game of the week
and won a seven n the rest. We're back on the.
Speaker 1 (02:21:39):
Shaefer Schwartz PLC postgame show one final time from Rockett Stadium.
Reese Puffer knocks off Spring Lake tonight in our LMCU
Lake Short Game of the Week twenty six to fourteen,
the final Jason Hutton alongside Tom Kendra Tom.
Speaker 2 (02:21:51):
Next week we're going up to White Lake.
Speaker 1 (02:21:53):
We got the rivalry, the battle for the bell, Whitehall
monug you can throw the records out.
Speaker 2 (02:21:57):
I mean, this is really one of those games.
Speaker 1 (02:21:59):
Whitehall looks like they're gonna come up short tonight against
the Inland West Montague fifty five to fourteen win over
Richard View. So the U will be two and one,
two and oh in West Michigan Conference Lakes Division play.
Whitehall will be one and two, but one and o
in Lakes Division play. Who knows what's all going to
happen between now and the end of the season, but
this very well may decide a lot in terms of
that conference race.
Speaker 3 (02:22:19):
No question about it. And I think Montague is licking
their chops. They've been thinking that this could be the
year they finally win the bell back. And you know,
going in at two and one, it's deceiving to look
at Whitehall. You say, oh, they're one and two, they
must not be very good. I don't think so. I
think they're a good football team. They've played a tough schedule.
You look at who they lost to, Unity Christian. With
(02:22:41):
that win over for Stills Eastern tonight, they might be
really for real this year. And then Zealand West arguably
one of the top two or three teams in the
whole area. So don't be thrown off by this one
and two record by Whitehall. They're very good. I still
think they're a little bit of a favorite. But Montague
really motivated to try to win that game.
Speaker 1 (02:23:00):
Get the bell back, ok, greatge a big winnver Man
of Stee tonight, Lettington with a win at Fremont. So
a lot to be determined still in the West Michigan
Conference Lakes Division, but certainly.
Speaker 2 (02:23:10):
The bell always a big deal and will go a
long way.
Speaker 1 (02:23:13):
Towards determining what happens in that conference game in in
that division. Tom great job tonight. Really enjoyed. It had
a lot of fun. My first ever game here at
Reese Puffer. Beautiful facility in the natural grass field, beautiful
night for football, excellent crowd on hand in the home
standing Rockets get to win twenty six to fourteens like
to give a special shout out to Rockets Athletic director
(02:23:33):
Cliff Sandy for his hospitality tonight. Also to both of
the Codies, Cody Mallory, the head coach at spring Lake
and Cody Cator, the head coach at Reese Puffer. Special
thanks to John Ard tonight at our spotlight game of
the Week between Zealand West and Whitehall. We'll hear from
him coming up on the High School Scoreboard Show with
Rick Burkie momentarily, Brian Thomas doing a great job back
(02:23:56):
at the mus Studios as always, and Rick Burke, who
will hear from shortly on the High School Scoreboard Show
for Tom Candor, I'm Jason Hutton once again. The final
score Reee Puffer twenty six, Spring Lake fourteen.
Speaker 2 (02:24:07):
Good Night,
