The Moose Whitehall is the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division
champion for a third straight year. But the Vikings have
been pointing towards this moment the playoffs for a very
long time. They built up the schedule, they played tough teams.
They wanted to be ready for a run in the
state tournament. They have some serious injuries to overcome. We'll
get into that throughout the broadcast, but most notably Parker
(00:50):
Mount who's been out since before the Week four matchup
with Montague, and then most recently Ryan Goodrich. They're two
inside linebackers for Stals Eastern, the home team. The Locks
have had a nice they were just a point shy
of winning the Okay White title. They've got some seniors,
some real a really good senior class that will lead
the way in what they hope will be the drive
to Ford Field. This is the Lasco Services pregame show.

Services pregame show and earlier this week Tom Kender had
a chance to talk to Whitehall head coach Tony Sigmund
as his Vikings get set to play this playoff game tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
We are back here in the coach's corner with a
Whitehall coach Tony Sigmund, in preparation for this week's Lake
Shore Game of the Week, Whitehall making the trip over
to Forest Hills, Eastern and Tony. This year, you enter
the postseason at six and three, a little different than
the past years. The three teams you lost to have
a combined record at twenty six and one. They're all
(02:40):
ranked in the top three in the state. So tell me,
has playing those games made you a better team?
Speaker 4 (02:47):
I think so. I think that's really helped us in
our conference play.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
It's really kind of allowed us to, in my opinion,
stay grounded and stay focused. I think where our kids
are mentally right now is actually, even though we came
off of a big loss, actually in a really place
as far as making sure that we have their undervite
attention and really understanding on the important of doing the
little things right. And I'm I'm pretty happy with where
(03:10):
our kids practiced at yesterday, and I'm hoping for a
great practice today.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
All Right, another thing I've noticed with your team. Now,
every team nine game regular season is going to have
some injuries, but it seems like you guys have really
been hit hard this year. Maybe you could speak to
that a little bit. I know you've had injuries to
your two senior linebackers and leaders, Parker Mott and Ryan Goodrich. Obviously,
injuries affect a team tactically, but I would think also
(03:37):
emotionally when you lose guys like that, Maybe how has
that affected your team?
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Well, I think it's affected us in a couple of
different ways.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
You know.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Obviously, the production that we've gotten out of those kids
over the course of two years has been huge, you know,
So that part is kind of one area to address.
The other part of it is is that they're both
team captains this year for us, So that's been a
challenge in its own right. And saying that though, this
(04:05):
group of kids have done a wonderful job overcoming diversity
with that type of roster turnover, because I know that
when we had a lot of injuries back in twenty
nineteen and we just really didn't have the roster size
and makeup to go ahead and overcome those those injuries
and we ended up being three and six.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
So this year we were able to overcome those.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Injuries and win our conference, and I thought we did
a wonderful job in terms of where we were in
our conference last year this year, and I think also too,
that really speaks to the volume and quality and the
character of our team and as our kids, because we
are in the playoffs. This makes the tenth year now
for us in twelve years, and with all the adversity
(04:49):
that our kids had to go through with injuries and
that kind of stuff, they've just really done a wonderful
job keeping a levelhead and staying focused, really having the
next man up approach, and I've really been This is
probably one of the proudest moments that I've had as
far as in terms of team because of how they've
been able to adapt and overcome.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I wanted to talk a little bit about your senior
quarterback Cam Thompson. Kind of a once in a generation
type kid at a school like Whitehall, six ' five,
good enough to be planning to play both basketball and
football at Western Michigan. I think I've always thought of
Cam as a basketball player who was dabbling in football,
(05:30):
But wow, his development in football. Tell me about that
development and how would you describe his quarterback style.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
Well, I think number one in terms of production, he's
really been able to pick up where Kyle left off
from last year. And I think that that's a big
thing because you know, the big question mark was how
are you going to replace a kid like that? Right Well,
you know, we have the luxury right now this year
that we replaced a kid with that type of production
and a college football player and a team captain with
a Division one football player.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
So that's how we ended up replacing Kyle.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
And you know, Cam has just done a wonderful job
for us all year long at the quarterback position. But
we knew, like because Kyle was going to graduate, you know,
we we knew that was going to happen, and so
we had to have a plan in place.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
So, you know, for for Cam, we've been kind of
working on.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
This over the course of two or three years and
really kind of starting to you know, have him lean
into that as well. But you know, when it comes
to Cam, you know, he is a very talented athlete
and you know he makes in a lot of ways,
he makes the hard look easy. Is probably the best
way to describe, you know, his style of play and
(06:39):
what he's able to do.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
He usually has, you know, comparatively speaking.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
He usually has a different gear than most kids, and
I think that that's what is so alluring about him
as a Division one athlete, and specifically when it comes
to football. We went ahead and we've done some you know,
combines throughout the course of the year with him, and
he consistently is one of the tallest kids there but
also one of the most athletic kids in space. So
(07:04):
you know, he's proven that time in and time out,
and I know his future looks really really bright for
him at Western and you know, we're hoping that he
can have a you know, a great postseason with us
at Whitehall.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
This is Tom Kender again in the coaches corner with
Whitehall coach Tony Sigmund and Tony, you guys won the
West Michigan Conference Lakes Division per fixt six and zero.
You had your three losses in the non conference. Looking
closer at those losses, you gave up a lot of
points in those games. This week, you have another offensive
juggernaut and Forrest Hill's Eastern what unique challenges does their
(07:41):
offense present? To you and what does your defense have
to do to keep them in check.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Well, I think what we have to do, number one
is establish the line of scrimmage and everything that they're
doing right now in terms of their run game and
their run heavy team. Is there really wanting to attack
off tackle on the perimeter pretty defensively, so we really
have to be sound on that. I think it starts
out with guys like our defensive lineman like Jack Ambrose
(08:07):
and Corday Anderson stepping up and having big games for us,
and then also too, Brock morning Star is going to
have to have a big game for us as well,
allowing our safeties to come up when they's defined clearly
as run. But Forrestills, Eastern also does a really nice
job in the past.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Game to where they can't be greedy.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
They've just got to let the game come to them
in terms of our safeties.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
The other part of it is, too, is they run a.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
Little bit of RPO stuff, so you know that does
put some of our perimeter defensive players and run pass conflict.
So being able to really balance that out and manage it.
I really think it starts from the inside out for
us on the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
All right, My final question for you this is more
of a I guess the psychological question. Maybe we mentioned
in the past two years, you rolled into the postseason
nine to zero, and I guess with a big target
on your chest. This year a little different story. I
think you're coming into the playoffs a little under the radar,
certainly an underdog this week on the road. Is that
something you can use to your advantage from a psychological standpoint?
Speaker 5 (09:09):
You know, we talked a little bit about that, you know,
comparison from last the last couple of years to this
year in terms of coming into the playoffs, and I
think that one of the biggest areas of concern is focus.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
You know, what are your kids focused on? And you know,
for our kids right now.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
I think with the way the season has unfolded, the
teams that we've played, we've really kind of got to
a place right now where, hey, let's just learn some
lessons from the year before, and there's only one game
we have to focus on.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
You know, if we try to get too far ahead
in the future.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
You're you're just too You're just playing too many good
teams at this point in the season.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
So every game in of itself is a season.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
And I think that our kids have done a really
nice job, you know, buying into that concept. And then
the other part of it is too is you know,
our kids, an know, their pride is challenged a little
bit last week, and they want to go out and
they want to show everyone that they are.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
A good football team.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
And what better place to do it than playing another
good one?
Speaker 6 (10:12):
All right, Well, good luck Friday night.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
The Coaches Corner Interview brought to you every week by
Factory Surplus Sales located in Monague, where you can get

away from kickoff here at Hawks Stadium six and three,
White Hall at seven and two, Forest Hills Eastern. Will
take a break, we'll come back with the keys to
tonight's contest and the kickoff. You're listening to the MCU
Lake Shore Game of the Week on one of seven
(10:37):
mus the Moose. This is the Drive to Ford Field
presented by Vanderlin Home Improvement. Here on one oh seven
m Us the Moose, Jason Hutton and Tom Kendra at
Forest Hills Eastern with the Hawks at seven and two
taking on Whitehall at six and three and Tom Kendra.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Let's take a look at tonight's keys to the contest.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Well, I would say, first of all, for Whitehall, Jason,
you know, unlike the last two years, they don't come
in with high expectations into the playoffs. They come in
in an underdog role. I think that's gonna benefit them.
But as far as keys to the game go for Whitehall,
I'm looking at their juniors that need to step up.
We talked about the injuries season ending injuries to Parker
(11:15):
Mott and to Ryan Goodrich. I'm looking at Corday Anderson
six four two twenty kind of an athletic freak tight end,
defensive end. I'm looking for him to step up and
play a big role and also a Hunter Osbourne. If that,
if those juniors can step in and fill the void
from those fallen seniors, I think Whitehall has a really
(11:36):
good shot.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, my key for Whitehall is very similar to years.
But I'm looking right at number twelve. Right, he's your
best player, he's your best athlete, he's the quarterback. Cam
Thompson's gonna have to do it tonight for Whitehall without
your top two running back, or excuse me, without your
top two inside linebackers, Camp Thompson, also the team's leading
tackler at safety, without your starting running back Gavin Craner
is gonna give it a go tonight. He look good
and warm ups, but playing with a bad knee as well.
(11:57):
So you're gonna have to have Number twelve kind of
carry you tonight. If white Hall is going to emerge victorious,
how about for the Hawks?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
And I would say for the Hawks, you know, their
offense has been really good. I'm just concerned about their defense.
I think the key to the game for them is
gonna be defense. You look at the last four games,
the Hawks have given up a lot of points and
the challenge they have with the Cam Thompson is on
the edge. You know he'll be rolling out. He's a
lot like Carson VISs. You don't know is he gonna run,
(12:23):
is he gonna pass? And then he changes it maybe
a couple of times as he looks down the field.
So I'm looking at those guys on the edge outside
linebackers Nolan Hostetler, Connor Helminsky, the safeties Jackson Arnold, Max Berrick.
They got to make good decisions or you know if
they come up and bite, you know, they could get
beat on a big play. So really, I think the
defense is key for Fag, for me, for.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
For Stills Eastern, I think they get up to a
fast start. Here.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
You're on the home field. It's the playoff game. Last
week they get out twenty one to nothing on Reese Puffer. Sure,
the final score thirty five twenty eight, but the Rockets
scored two touchdowns in a final seven minutes, including one
with forty seconds to go. For Stills, Easter needs to
get out play from ahead in this game, control their
style of play. The Hawks won the toss. They defer
to the second half. Excuse me, Whitehall won the toss.
(13:08):
Defer to the second half. So the Vikings are going
to kick it deep. Whitehall in their all white uniforms,
white pants, white jerseys with red trim, the white helmet
with the red Viking on it, Forest seals. Eastern in
the home all blacks, black pants, black jerseys with the
crimson trim. They have black helmets with the crimson hawk
feathers on it.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Whitehall kicking it deep.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Number forty five jud Musk kicks it deep and foresteels
Eastern will take it Jackson Arnold from his own eleven
yard line. He's back out to about the thirty yard
line and Forest Hills Eastern will get the football to
start the game.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Head coach Joe Schwander.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
In his sixth season leading the Hawks thirty six and
twenty three as the head coach of Forest Feels easterners
the head coach for Belding for seven seasons before that,
played his high school football at Rockford for Ralph Munger
and then had an excellent career of both Tri State
and Hope College. He's still in the Hope College top
ten for career total off that's just two years as
a quarterback for the Flying Dutchman.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
Yeah, it's very impressive.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
And you know, looking at this Forest Hills Eastern offense,
I think they're going to try to run it right
up the middle, you know, Whitehall without those two linebackers
good Rich and Parker Mott, They're gonna see if they
can handle them between the tackles.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
And on first down, it's an empty set. It is
Jackson Arnold at quarterback for the Hawks. We did not
see Brendan Thompson in warm ups and he is not
on the field for the first play. We have seen
Arnold run a decent amount of wildcat this year, and
that's what it is here. Arnold running over the right
Side's got a big game. He's out to the forty
and he's got a first down before he's finally hit
and stood up in there, still moving the pile forward,
(14:38):
still moving it forward, almost to midfield. Another nine yards
after it looked like that play was over, Jackson Arnold
goes for twenty on first down.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a play go
on for that long after it looked like it had
been stopped. But that's a very interesting development. No, Brendan Thompson,
it doesn't look like in this game he's a Division
one baseball comit a tremendous quarterback. It looks like they're
gonna be going with Jackson Arnold here tonight.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Well, we remember Jackson played a lot of quarterback last year,
rotated with Mark Feuer this senior, and on second down,
Arnold's gonna hand it to Max Ferrick running over the
right side. Ferrick into Whitehall territory down to the forty six.
That's a gain of five and that'll put the senior
Max Ferrick over one thousand yards for the season.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
He came into this contest with nine hundred and ninety
seven guard.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Will also see his younger brother, Drew, a sophomore, a
little bit in the backfield, and we'll see him at
inside linebacker as well.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Again, they ran to the right side behind a Simonson,
the big guard over there, and Brayden Serba, and that
time cam Thompson had to come up from his safety
position to make the tackle. And that's something that Tony
Sigmann doesn't want to see. He doesn't want Campden Thompson
to have to make all the tackles. Whitehall's got to
do a better job up front.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Thompson came into the game fifty tackles on the season,
tie for the team leader with Ryan Goodrich. But we
have not seen Goodrich since Week seven when he injured
his knee. It's Luttington and here's Arnold over the left
tackle this time, and he's going to be about a
yard shy as he falls forward down close to the
forty two, maybe the forty three. Call it third and
short here coming up for the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Yeah, that time cole Aessa Beggers, another safety coming up
to make the stop for Whitehall. But now at least
the Vikings here, they've got him in a third down situation,
probably four down territory. I noticed from the stats you
know Forsteals Eastern, and they don't like to punt very much.
I only saw five punts the whole season against a
decent schedule.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
If you like to go for it.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
They got a little Dan Campbell and we're under ten
minutes opening quarter, no score, and on third and short,
Ferret gets the call over the right side. He's got
a first down as he gets to the forty yard line.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
A game of three.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Let's check the rest of that Forestals Eastern offense you
talked about. The senior Braden Cerba and the senior A
Simonson at right tackle and right guard. Senior Nathaniel Nowiki
is the center, number fifty six, Senior Brandon Ford is
the left guard, number sixty eight, and sophomore Max Langdon
and number seventy seven is the last tackle. We have
Jackson Arnold quarterback and Max Ferrick the senior number twenty five,
(17:05):
who's already.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Had a couple carries.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
The wide receivers are number two Caius Peters, a senior
mohawk are gonna.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Go spread out wide to the left.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Nolan Hostetler is in the game at a tight end
for the Hawks and Arnold is in the shotgun mohawk
in motion. They fake to him on the jet and
Arnold's gonna run over the left sie. He's got a
first down more inside the thirty. He steps around to
tackle to twenty five. He's inside the twenty and all
the way down to the fourteen yard line, twenty six
yards for Jackson Arnold and another four sos eastern first
(17:37):
down while the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Right now, Jay, they're doing a good job with that
guy in motion, taking a lot of defenders with him,
and Jackson Arnold just keeping it himself, running through a
nice hole on the left side of the line. A
very impressive drive that are already down inside the red zone.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
And that's one thing we'll have to watch if there
is no Brendan Thompson, which we haven't seen him so
far tonight. They were a balance team with BT at
quarterback Jackson last year. A lot of running the football
we saw with the Hawks a season ago in Brenda
Thompson was not playing football, and they give is to
Max Fairk over the left side and this time he'll
get hit after a short game down to about the
eleven yard line, so the Viking defense doing a better
(18:16):
job there.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
It'll set up second down.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Yeah, I'm sure Forrest Stills Eastern would love to just
do nothing more than keep it on the ground.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
And so far, so good for them.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
They they've been they might have been their shortest run there,
just a three yard run by Farrek Whitehall. Let's see
if they maybe adjust to the change at quarterback, maybe
put more guys up in the box and sort of
dare the Hawks to throw the ball.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Well Forsta's Eastern with Brenda Thomson a quarterback, very multiple
they'll go, you know, wid a lot of wide receivers.
Also see multiple tight end sets, multiple running back sets.
And here on second down, it's Arnold in the gun
and he's gonna hand it off to Ferrik running right.
And this time he's hitting the drop in the backfield
court a Anderson from his defensive end spot. That's going
to be a loss and set up third down and
(19:01):
long for Forest Hills Eastern.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
And this is what Joe Schwander wants to stay out of.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
Yeah. Great play that time by Corday Anderson.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
The junior defensive end six four to two twenty Jason,
when I was talking to Tony Sigmund, he said, when
college coaches talked to him, the two guys they want
to talk about Camden Thompson and Corday Anderson. Just a junior,
definitely a college football prospect.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Seven minutes, twenty five seconds to play, opening quarter. This
is the first possession of the game. Forest Hills Eastern
is driven to the white Hall thirteen yard line, but
they faced third down and night Drew Ferrett goes in motion.
Arnold fakes to give He's gonna run it over right tackle.
He's down inside the five and very close to a
first down, and I believe he'll have it.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
They'll give him the first down eleven yards to the.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Two in its first and goal for Forest Hills Eastern
while the Hawks control on the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Jason, that time, Whitehall knew they were gonna run the ball,
and they ran it right at him and Jackson Arnold
was able to pick up the first down on a
third and long situation. Now Whitehall really in a tough
spot here, first and goal from what is it the
two yard line?
Speaker 2 (20:05):
First and goal from the two. This would be the
ninth play of the drive. All eight plays so far
been on the ground. Four carries from Jackson Arnold who's
playing quarterback, and four carries from the senior running back,
Max Ferrick. On first and goal, it's going to be
Arnold and he's going to be hit by Brock morning Star.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
No gain on the play. Excellent job by this senior
for Whitehall.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Well, good job that time, Brock morning Star. He's one
of those wrestlers here on the Whitehall football team. Whitehall
with a great wrestling program. Some of their standout players
are wrestlers. Morning Star. He wasn't a guy that Tony
Sigmann mentioned. Really has to step up today. With the
starting linebackers out a great hit that time.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Connor Nash, Jack Ambrose, Caden Boyer, and Cordy Anderson make
up the defensive line for Whitehall. Their linebackers or Gavin Kraner,
Nate Betts in Brock morning Star, the corners Blake English
and Hunter Osbourne. The safeties Cole Essebaggers and Cam Thompson.
The second down in goal, Arnold will be in an
(21:05):
empty set this time. He's got Peters and Mohawks split
wide to the left. Peter's coming in emotion, but we're
gonna get a time out called by Joe Schwander and
Forest Hills Eastern for five minutes and fifty seconds to
play in this opening quarter. And Tom, what do you
think Whitehall is talking about here? I'm sure they were
expecting to see Brandon Thompson at quarterbacks. So you come
out here with Jackson Arnold a lot of ground game.
(21:25):
What kind of adjustments does white Hall need to make here?
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Well, that's what I'm wondering here. You know, they got
Tony Sigmund. He was an old linebacker for Dewett. He's
a defensive minded guy. Kyle Stratton is a great defensive coordinator.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
I gotta believe.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
They're looking at things right now and saying, hey, you know,
without Brendan Thompson playing, we got to sell out and
stop the run. Right now, the offensive line of Forest
Hills Eastern is having its way. I think what they're
talking about here is, hey, we got to move more
guys into the box. If they beat us with a
big pass play, so be it. But we can't let
(22:01):
them run on us the way they have.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
So Forest Hills Eastern started to drive at its own
twenty nine yard line. They've driven all the way down
to the three yard line, where it is second down
in goal. As we are set to resume play after
the timeout. Five minutes fifty seconds to play in this
opening quarter. Division four Region one District one semi final
winner this one will get either Luddington or Big Rapids
(22:25):
in the district final next week.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Arnold with Shabbaz and Ferrik flanking.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
I mean he gives it to Ferrik running over the
right side, and Ferrik is close to the goal line.
No signal from the official, they'll say he's down inside
the one yard line.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
It'll be third down in goal.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
A much better job that time by the Whitehall left
side of the defensive line.
Speaker 6 (22:46):
Forest Hills Eastern.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
They tried to run again behind those big seniors on
the right side. Whitehall appeared to be ready for it.
And now, hey, they've got him down.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
To a third down.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
I'm sure they're just gonna try to get some kind
of penetration shoot through, maybe hit someone in the backfield
if they guessed correctly.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
So it is third down in goal.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
The ball is inside the one yard line, and I
would say, well inside, I mean the nose of the
football just inches shy of the goal line, and we'll
see the heavy package here Arnold with Shabbaz and Ferrick,
and it's gonna be Arnold runner up the.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Middle and he's hit.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
I don't think he got it.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
He did not get in the end zone. It is
going to be fourth down in goal. They'll spot him
right inside the one yard line.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Jason, that was Gavin Kraner there, the outside linebacker. Didn't
play last week at Portland.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
He's an All state.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Wrestler fifty four and oh last year he had a
huge hit there. He lost to half a yard there. Jay,
it's four fourth and almost a full yard.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Not having Craner, not having Parker Bott, not having Brian Goodrich.
You saw that last week against Portland really struggled to
stop the run.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
So getting Cranner back in there is a big help.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
For white huge play here, fourth and goal from the
one and a chance for Whitehall to really catch the momentum.
Four minutes, twelve seconds to play in the first quarter,
Forest Hills Eastern with Arnold in the shotgun, an empty set.
He's gonna run right, He's hit and pushing and Ashal
and he's gonna be in touchdown Jackson Arnold. It looked
as if he was stopped, but the Forest Hills Eastern
(24:21):
players were able to push him into the end zone,
which of course is legal. You can push, you cannot pull.
And Forest Hills Eastern is on the board first.
Speaker 6 (24:28):
That's exactly what happened, Jason. He was hit that time.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Hunter Osbourne, the junior, came up, made a big hit
on him and initially he was stopped short, but you're right,
second effort got him into the end zone. Give Whitehall
credit for a nice goal line stand. Give Forest Hills
Eastern credit for the second effort there for the touchdown, and.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Jackson Arnold after running that one in for a score, well,
now snap it. Drew Ferrick is the holder and Suit
will attempt the extra point. That is good from number seventeen.
Charlie Suit and our score fortals Eastern seven, Whitehall nothing.
Four minutes three seconds to play, opening quarter.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
This is the drive to.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Ford Field presented by Vanderlin Home Improvement. Here on one
oh seven m us the moose. We'll be right back
with a.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Kickoff that for stals Eastern scoring. Drive goes twelve plays.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Seventy one yards takes seven minutes and fifty seven seconds
off the clock. Twelve running plays, seven of them by
Jackson Arnold, who is playing quarterback tonight. The extra point
by Charlie Swett makes it Forestals Eastern seven, Whitehall nothing,
and the Vikings going to get the football here for
the first time. Jason Hutton and Tom Kendra at Hawk Stadium.
It's a Division one, Division four, Region one District one semifinal.
(25:48):
Suit kicks it deep and it will come down to
Hunter Osbourne and his own five yard line. He's running
left to the twenty and he's tripped up there right
at the twenty yard line. Nice tackle by Tyson Hunting.
So here comes White Haul. They're gonna have to answer
after that long scoring drive by the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Yeah, let's see what can Thompson and company can do
here again. Whitehall's attack starts and ends with number twelve
six ' five one ninety. For those who don't know,
he's a Western Michigan University commit for basketball and football.
So he's just a rare kind of a generational athlete
to come through a school like Whitehall. And he's like
(26:26):
a Carson VISs look alike.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
On first down, though fake to give to Osborne. Now,
Thompson's gonna roll left. Thompson's gonna run it. He's got
a first down across the thirty and I'll stop it
going to bounds at about the thirty three yard line.
But a thirteen yard game for Thompson on first down
of the Vikings kit a new set of downs.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Yeah, you see right there, he dropped back. Thompson did
to throw the ball. Nobody open, No problem, he scrambles,
he's got He's very fast for his size and holds
the ball just out there in one hand, comfortably.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
Just an easy thirteen yard run there.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
So on first and ten from the thirty four, they're
gonna give it to Osborne running right on the Jets sweep,
Osborne gonna be hit and dropped right at the line
of scrimmage. No game for Hunter Osborne. Excellent job out
there by Max Ferrick sot a second a long.
Speaker 6 (27:14):
Yeah, that time. The Hawks strung that out very well.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Osborne looked like he probably should have cut up a
little bit sooner and might have been able to get
a little something out of that.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
Instead, they strung it out for no gain.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Ferrik to leading the second leading tackler for the Hawks.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Second down, Thompson gonna pass throwing right and it's complete
to Cordy Anderson. He's got a first down out near
midfield and an excellent timing throw that time from Cam
Thompson to Corday Anderson and the Vikings move the sticks.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
Yeah, Corday Anderson.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
We've talked about him a couple times already tonight, Jay,
but he's just a he's a nightmare match headache really,
six four two twenty plays that sort of that wide
out sometimes plays a tight end position, but he's with
that kind of size.
Speaker 6 (28:00):
He's just hard to handle.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
The spot it at the forty seven it's again of thirteen.
On first down, Thompson hand off to Craner. Craner into
force sALS eastern territory and he's gonna fall down at
about the forty eight yard line. Give Craner five yards
on first down. Let's check the Viking offense. Senior seventy
two counter nations the left tackle, senior fifty two, Jack Ambrose,
the left guard, seventy five, Junior Jamison Jeffrey the center,
(28:23):
seventy seven Junior Jacob Alger the right guard, and senior
number seventy Peyton Austen Fort is the right tackle. Thompson
is joined by Gavin Craner in the backfield. Second and
five on the Forestals eastern forty eight, and they give
his mere excuse me, that's Nate Betts running left and
he's hit and dropped in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
That'll be a lost.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Drew Ferrick, the sophomore and younger brother of Max Ferrick,
makes the play. It'll set up third down finish the
white Hall offense. The receivers are ten junior Cordy Anderson
and two cole Ssenbaggers, a junior. The slot receivers are
one junior Hunter Osbourne in five senior Blake English third
down and five here Tom for the Vikings and the
Forests eastern forty eight.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
Yeah, big play here. Let's see. Let's see if they
go with a quarterback scramble perhaps and.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
They're gonna run Gavin Craner of a right tack. He's
got a first down in more he's inside the forest
Seals eastern forty to about the.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Thirty nine yard line.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Give Cranner nine yards and the third first down for
Whitehall on this their first possession of the game, trailing
Forestals Eastern seven to nothing as we are at two
minutes now to play in the opening quarter.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Wow, a nice quick hitting run play there through the
right side of the line. Jacob Elger Peyton of support
over there with a nice hole for Craner. Nice little
comeback drive here for the Vikings first down.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
And they give is gonna be Cranterer get big hope
the middle.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Craner to the twenty five crater inside the twenty finds
contact all the way down to the ten yard line.
But it's twenty nine yards for Gavin Craner, who's running
well here on this first drive.
Speaker 6 (29:52):
Yeah, we wondered about him, Jay.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
He didn't play last week over in Portland, but he's
averaging almost ten yards of carry. He doesn't have great speed,
but like we said, he is a tough kid.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
He's a state.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Champion wrestler fifty four and all last year at one
hundred and seventy five pounds Division three state champ.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
So on first and goal on to ten, they're gonna
stay with it. Craner over left tackle down to the
five yard line. He falls ford maybe to the four
tackle made by Connor Helminsky, the sophomore outside linebacker for
the Hawks. Let's look at that Forest Hills Eastern defense,
which has senior number sixty five Dylan Langdon at the nose.
The ends are senior number fifty Adam Deneu and senior
(30:32):
number sixty eight Brandon Ford. The outside linebackers Helminski along
with Nolan Hostetler. The inside linebackers are sophomore in twenty
four Drew Ferrick and senior number twenty two Noah Bartley's
second and goal for Whitehall and this time it's Thompson
running the option to the right.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Now he pitches it late and the balls on.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
The ground still on the ground, and I believe Forest
Hills Eastern has it at the thirty yard line. They
were trying to get it to number one Hunter Osbourne.
It was a late pitch from Thompson Osborne to handle
it and Forest Hills Eastern falls on.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
It at the three yard line.
Speaker 6 (31:05):
What a devastating turnover there, Jay Whitehall. It answered back.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
They drove the length of the field and that time
a late pitch there. That's the danger when you run
that option. A late pitch there from Cam Thompson. Osbourne
just couldn't quite handle it, and then it was loose
on the carpet for a long time and the fight
and the Hawks end up coming up with it. So
a huge turn of events here. We talked about turnovers.
(31:32):
The first big one goes to the hosts.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Well, that's the danger when you run the option, and
we had seen the motion that would lead to option
where the slot receiver comes in motion behind Thompson. But
all those plays had Ben Kraaner off tackle had been
very effective, and that time Thompson pulled it and ran
the option and the balls on the turf of Forest
Hills Eastern has it. So fifty five seconds to play
in the opening quarter, Hawks up seven, and Arnold's gonna
run on first noub but he's.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Hit and dropped.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Nice play that time by seventy eight Kayden Boyer, and
that might have been a loss of two all the
way back to the one yard line.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Wow, that time Boyer broke through, he almost got him
in the end zone. They're a inside the one yard line.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
We're down to thirty seconds to play in this opening quarter.
Forts Eastern may not have to snap it there a
Arnold playcocks here at Hawk Stadium, the play clock could
be kept on the field. Jackson Arnold ran all the
way over to the sideline to get the play. He
is just now getting to the huddle with seventeen seconds
to play in this opening quarter Forcetals, Eastern leads to
white Hall seven and nothing. The Hawks drove seventy one
(32:36):
yards and twelve plays in their opening possession of one
yard Jackson Arnal touchdown run. Whitehall drove to the forts
Eastern four but fumbled and now with four seconds to
play in the quarter, Arnold in the shotgun and they
will snap it. Arnold gonna thrill quickly to kayas Peters complete,
but he's hit and drop right at the one yard
line to end the quarter. Excellent play that time by
(32:57):
Blake English the corner and that will bring us to
the end of the first quarter with our score for
Steals Eastern seven, Whitehall nothing. This is the drive to
Ford Field presented by Vanderlin's Home Improvement. We'll be back
with the second quarter right after this on one oh
seven mus the Moose, Jason Hutting and Tom Kendra back
(33:18):
at Forest Hills Eastern with the OLMSU Lake Shore Game
of the Week four Steals Eastern seven, Whitehall nothing. We're
set to resume play As we start the second quarter,
the Hawks are backed up third down and twelve from
their own two yard line. Jackson Arnold playing quarterback. No
Brendan Thompson the normal quarterback for steals Eastern tonight. So
(33:38):
third and twelve a definitely passing situation. Arnold with a
pump fake. He's in the end zone. He's got time.
Now he's gonna roll it right, He's hit and he
stays on his feet, throws it at the last minute,
nearly intercepted by Hunter Osborne, but it's incompleted fourth down.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Wow, what a series there for the white Hall defense, Jason.
They tried one run, nothing doing and a couple of
peas is great coverage that time he had Jackson Arnold
had nowhere to go with the ball, and now there
have no choice but to punt here from their own
two yard line. This is a U sets up very
(34:13):
well for Whitehall, especially with cam Thompson deep.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Well, not only that, but so you're punting from the two,
so you don't have your full yardage that you would
normally have on a punt. Plus Brendan Thompson is your
punter and you do not have him. So now it
looks like it's gonna be Arnold in the deep shotgun
to maybe punt is Thompson was back at single safety's
kind of running up here. The snap was to the left.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Arnold gets it blocked. It has blocked the balls in
the end zone.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Arnold picks it up. Now he's gonna throw it. It
is gonna be caught. Complete to twenty two. Noah Bartley
across the thirty to the thirty five?
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Is that legal? Tom?
Speaker 2 (34:46):
I've never seen that before. The punt blocked, he picked
it up and threw it. There are no flags. There
is a white hell player down in the end zone,
but I've never seen that before.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
I thought if you blocked a punt that it was.
I don't think you can pick it up and throw it.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
You can pick it up and run with it, for sure,
but I do not think you can throw it.
Speaker 6 (35:05):
Well, maybe if you can run it, why couldn't you
throw it.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
The officials are huddled at this at the Forest Seals
eastern seventeen yard line and talking about this.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
What a head's up play by Jackson Arnold though, grabbing
the ball and completing a pass down the field.
Speaker 6 (35:21):
This is good.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
This is gonna be a very interesting and important decision
in this game, Jason.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Three of the five officials were talking about it. Now
they're bringing in one of the other others to talk
about this. I don't see too much animation from the
white Hall sideline here they are gonna call it good.
It is a completion from Jackson Arnold to Noah Bartley,
and it's gonna be a gain of twenty eight yard.
It's gonna be a gain of thirty four yards all
(35:48):
the way out to the thirty six yard line, and
it's gonna set Forest Fills Eastern up with a football
first down and ten.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
Jason, that is two huge breaks for the Hawks. The
first one was the fumble. The fumble pitch for Whitehall,
and there after blocking the punt, they pick up the
punt and complete a pass.
Speaker 6 (36:14):
That is uh.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
I wish we had a referee like they do in
the NFL that we could go ask about this.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
But let's get Mike Pereira on the line.
Speaker 6 (36:22):
Yes, exactly, That's who I was trying to think of.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
Well, I'll tell you what if that doesn't end up
being our mister Be's pancake House play of the game,
I'll be shocked all my years I've never seen that before.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
The punt was blocked. The punter, who's also.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
The quarterback, Jackson, picked it up and threw it complete
to Noah Bartley.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Now it's Arnold running on first down.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
He's over the forty, spins his way, still on his
feet to the forty two and all the way out
to the forty four yard line before he finally brought
down by Cam Thompson.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
But it's eight.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Yards for Arnold at first down.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Yeah, I tell you what, Jackson Arnold is playing the
heck of a game. Jason stepping in for Brendon Thompson,
who's not in the lineup tonight at quarter back. I'm
still trying to get over that last play again, Whitehall.
They block the punt in the end zone, so you're thinking,
are they gonna fall on it for a touchdown or
recover it right down near the goal line. Instead, Arnold
(37:13):
picks it up and completes a pass. So it's been
a little bit of a crazy game already.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Second and two from the forty four yard line, four
Sills Eastern leading the game seven to nothing. We have
ten forty five to play in the second quarter. Arnold
gonna run over left tackle, bounces it outside the midfield,
stops and cuts back and he's into Whitehall territory. Hit
about the forty five yard line. Hunter Osbourne with the tackle,
but it's another eleven yards for Jackson Arnlold. Right now,
Whitehall doesn't have an answer for twenty in black.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Yeah, I think Whitehall is a little shell shocked right
now to still be trailing seven to nothing in this
game with a couple of great opportunities, one scoring opportunity
and a blocked pun in the end zone and you
look up and you still have zero points. That's a
kind of a tough pill to swallow. But given all
of that, they really need to get a stop here, Jay,
(38:03):
get the ball back.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Clock runs at ten point fifteen to play in the
second quarter, the scrimmage from the white Hall forty five
yard line.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
First down and ten.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Now, Ferrik is next to Arnold and the gun Kyus
Peters will go in motion from the left side of
the formation. They'll hand it to Ferk running over the
right side. He'll get a yard maybe two. Nice play
that time by Ian Hanson, the senior who is able
to run him down after a minimal game.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Yeah, you're right, Ian, Hanson kind of rotating in on
the defensive line for Whitehall, made a good job from
behind the play there to hold him to just a
two yard gain. This is you gotta believe four down
territory for Forrest Chills Eastern and I look for Whitehall
to be very aggressive, move some more guys up, try
(38:49):
to shut down Jackson.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Arnold Cole, a Sebaggers who normally plays safety, has walked up.
He's playing inside linebacker next to Nate bats and the
give is going to be Arnold's gonna keep it this
time on second down running it's got a first down
in more inside the thirty five down to the thirty
three yard line, ten more yards for Jackson.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
And at this point, Tom, I don't know why if
you're Joe Schwander you do anything but just let him
run with it because he's been so effective and white
Hall hasn't.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
Been able to stop him.
Speaker 3 (39:14):
That's right, and they're doing a good job again with
that guy in motion, that jet sweep motion on almost
every one of those runs. You have to respect that
guy in motion if you're the Whitehall defense, because one
of these times he's gonna give it to him. And
if you don't have someone out there, he's gonna have
a big play. So they're and they're doing a good
job and then going they're going right, going left, and yeah,
(39:36):
they really haven't needed to throw the ball tonight.
Speaker 6 (39:39):
They've been so effective.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
So eight minutes forty seven seconds to play, second quarter,
Forestiells Eastern leads White Hall seven and nothing. The Hawks
have the ball their second possession of the game, first
and ten on the Viking thirty three. And we're gonna
get a time out here called by forest Hill's Eastern.
That'll be their second used here in this first half.
Leaving them with one gives us that's a chance to
remind you that our keys to the contest, which we
did right before kickoff, as well as the entire drive
(40:05):
to ford Field, is presented by Vanderlin Home Improvement with
eighty years in the business. Vanderlin Home Improvement offers top
notch contractor services to customers in West Michigan. Called six one,
six sixty six nine eleven eleven for more details or
visit Vanderlins dot com. Tom Kendricks, should we do a
rapid radio scoreboard update? I got Montague three nowego nothing
after one quarter.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Yeah, we have a few other scores same score. Byron
Center three Northview zero, Mona shores up early on Traverse
City West six to nothing. It's Unity Christian fourteen Hamilton six.
And the only other score I see here is West
Catholic thirteen oak Ridge zero.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Don't forget that Byron Center Northview game is on our
sister station ninety six point one. The game Brett Bikedo
and Brett Bakita and Buck Gino are at Wadell Field.

Rapid Radios dot com first and ten for for sALS
eatern thereday is Jackson Arnold got a hole over left
guard and he loses the football as he's hit still
down and now Drew Ferrick picking it up at the
eighteen yard line and the software will take it the
rest of the way into the end zone for the score.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
A late flag.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
This will be after the touchdown and when it's your night,
I guess it's just your night. All the bounce is
going the way of the Crimson in black and for
Sales Eastern extends to a two score lead.
Speaker 6 (41:35):
No question about that. When it rains, it poors right now.
Speaker 3 (41:38):
For Whitehall that time, that's exactly what they needed to happen.
A big hit from the secondary. The ball pops loose
and right into the arms of Max Ferrick and he
runs it in for a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
But so to recap that drive, for Sils East face
with fourth and twelve at its own two, has its
punt blocked in the end zone when Jacksonville picked it
up and found Noah Bartley in a thirty four yard
completion on one of the wildest plays you'll ever see
in football. And then on the scoring play, Arnold runs
(42:16):
fifteen yards, gets hit, fumbles the football, and then Drew
Ferrek picks it up and takes it to the final
seventeen yards into the end zone. The penalty flag was
an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Fortivis Eastern. It looks like
that penalty will be enforced on the kickoff. So with
eight minutes and thirty seconds to play in the second
quarter for Sils Eastern, we'll line up for an extra
(42:37):
point to try to go up fourteen to nothing.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
Wow, it's got to be I'm looking over at the
Whitehall sidelines. Vikings have got to be demoralized. That's a well.
First of all, the fumble that was their own fault,
that was their own doing. But really those last two
plays were just dumb luck going against Whitehall. You gotta
(43:01):
play through it. Who knows, maybe the breaks will even
out here the rest of the way.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
So Charlie Suit made his first point after a touchdown
in the first quarter. We'll attempt to go two for
two here out of the hold of Drew Ferrick and
the snap of Jackson Arnold good pass from center. The
hold is down to the kick is up and it
is through, and our new score is Forest Stills Eastern fourteen,
Whitehall nothing.
Speaker 1 (43:25):
Eight thirty to play before the half.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
This is the drive to Ford Field, presented by Vanderlin's
Home Improvement on one oh seven mus the Moose and
we'll be right back. Forest Seals Eastern fourteen, Whitehall nothing.
Drew Ferrick recovered a fumble from his own team and
ran it in for a score. This on the same
drive where for Steels Eastern punted out of its own
(43:48):
end zone, had it blocked, but picked it up and
threw it for a thirty four yard game. Tom Kender,
I don't even know what to make of that last drive.
It's the strangest drive I'll probably ever see.
Speaker 6 (43:55):
That's right, and it challenged us in many ways.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
They're both seeing what they were doing and the ruling
by officials, Like on that play, if you're a statistician,
how do you rule that you?
Speaker 6 (44:08):
Yeah, I just don't know.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
But is it a fumble return for a touchdown or
is it a carry a rush?
Speaker 6 (44:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
I know Whitehall trails fourteen to nothing, and boy, if
there's any fairness in the world, it seems like they'd
be able to cash in a drive here cut it
to a one score game by the half.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Legend Simonson kicks a deep Cam Thompson was all the
way up to his thirty two to receive it.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
He's running back to midfield.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
He's still on his feet at the Forest Seals Eastern
forty six yard line. Excellent return by Cam Thompson and
the Vikings needed to spark. They'll start on the plus
side of the field here trailing fourteen to nothing.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
As it is a nice kickoff return. Whitehall will start
on the Forest Shills eastern side of the fifty.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
So it's the second possession of the game for Whitehall.
In their first position, they drove to the Hawk's four
yard line but lost the bottle of fumble on an
option running to the right. They'll go back to Nate
bats running over right guard and he pushes his way
for a couple down to about the forty three yard line.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
Yeah, plenty of time left in the half here, over
over eight minutes to play, and uh so Whitehall doesn't
have to be in any kind of hurry here. They
would love Tony Sigmann would love to have a long
drive here, use some clock and get into the end zone,
making a one score game at the half.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
So the ball spot of the forty three make it
second down in seven. Bets is next to Thompson and
the gun. They're gonna hand it to Bets and he's
hitting dropped, hit and drop by Nolan Hostetler, the senior
outside linebacker. It's a loss of three back to the
original line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
Yeah, that time, Hostetler wasn't fooled. The senior six one
two twenty. He's got forty tackles coming into the game,
including four sacks. He's an outstanding senior player.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
Why now Whitehall set up on third down and ten.
They are on the side of the field, so you
would think down fourteen to nothing, they'd have two plays
to get these ten yards. But a certain passing situation
for Thompson, who's in the gun and he has time.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
Now he steps up in.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
The pocket, gets out of a grasp of Adam Dene
in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
Thompson's still on his feety fall.
Speaker 2 (46:13):
He dropped the football and he falls on it back
in his own thirty five yard line. He got hit
again after there are no flags down Forest Hills Easterns.
Noah Bartley comes up with the football.
Speaker 3 (46:26):
I don't Oh, it's a late hit there on Thompson.
No flag though, I'm surprised we didn't see a flag there,
but I guess, you know, you never know whether he's
down or not. But that time, yeah, he just lost
the ball as he was scrambling.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
That's a loss of sixteen It's fourth down and twenty
six for Whitehall, now back on their own thirty eight
yard line, and Thompson's gonna have to punt. So you
don't expect to lose sixteen certainly not a situation where
he'd go for it here, but down two scores, you're
gonna put your defense back out there. Thompson a high
kick comes down to Arnold his own thirty Arnold back
(47:04):
out close to the forty down at about the thirty
nine yard line before Cody Manzo makes the tackle, and
the Hawks will get it back here with six eighteen
to go before the half.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
Big possession, now.
Speaker 6 (47:14):
Oh, no question about it.
Speaker 1 (47:16):
You know.
Speaker 6 (47:18):
Whitehall's gonna look back.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
At this half and shake their head just trying to
figure out what the heck is going on here. But
the one thing that we can say, Jason, fourteen to
nothing is manageable. They go into halftime, they get the
ball to start the second half. That's manageable. I don't
think twenty one to nothing is manageable. So this drive
right here, Whitehall has to get a stop.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
By the way, that last force is easter scoring drive
as wild as it was. Nine plays ninety six yards
took four minutes, twenty five seconds and it's cap by
the Ferrick rush for seventeen yards.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
I don't know, fumble recovery.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
Max Ferreck gets the ball on first down, he's over midfield,
he's still on his feet into Whitehall's territory, pushing the
pile all the way down to the forty five yard line.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
It's fifteen yards on first down.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
And that's at least a third time tonight, including the
first touchdown, where we've seen Forrest Hills Eastern stop and
then continue to move the pile forward.
Speaker 3 (48:11):
Yeah, I'm just very impressed with Max Farrick, just like
he came into this game nine and ninety seven yards
on the season, well over one thousand now and just
that second effort, Whitehall is just having trouble getting him
to the turf.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
So it's first down to ten on the white holl
forty five Forests Eastern with the ball up fourteen to nothing,
Arnold's gonna keep it running over the left side and
he's got about six inside the forty yard line before
Nate Betts makes the tackle. Clock running at five thirty
four to play in the second quarter.
Speaker 3 (48:43):
Yeah, again, they're just a forest fills Eastern, so good
up front on the line and Joe Shwander doing a
good job mixing it up, running left one, running right
inside using that jet suitet motion to keep the defense honest.
They're a tough team to stop, even without their senior
quarterback Brendan Thompson playing tonight.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
So second down at four and the thirty nine foresteals
Eastern in absolutely no hurry. They'll work the play clock
here inside of five minutes to play before the half.
Shabaz and Ferrick next number to Arnold and Arnold fumbles
it in Brock morning Star there to fall on it
for Whitehall.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
The Vikings will get it back.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
A big break for Whitehall as Forestills Eastern had trouble
at the mesh point.
Speaker 1 (49:27):
There Vikings get it back.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Wow, that's the first mistake, the first turnover tonight for
forest Hills Eastern, and boy, it couldn't have come at
a better time for Whitehall. They were just starting to
feel sorry for themselves. Hey what about us? When are
we going to get a break? And that was really
an unforced air or there by the Hawks. And let's
see if Whitehall can now take advantage.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
And good field position again. They have it on their
own forty six yards.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
Of course, they started the last drive on the Hawks
forty six yard line but went three and out, and
they're gonna run the Jets sweep to Hunter Osborne running.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
Left hill Loo.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
He was a yard stopped at about the forty five
yard line, Drew Ferrick in on the stop and that
jet sweep has not worked for Whitehall to night.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
No, that's the second time that they've tried that with Osborne,
and he just keeps getting strung out further and further.
And that's just not the formal on that play on
the jet sweep. If you see anything at all, you've
got to turn it up and take what you can get.
The defense wants you to keep running horizontally, not vertically.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
So on second down the give is going to be
over the left side and into Forestills Eastern territory. At
that time it was Gavin Craaner out to the forty
eight yard line, seven yard game. It will be set
up third down for the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (50:40):
You're right, Jay Whitehall has been much better on those
straight ahead runs between the tackles.
Speaker 6 (50:45):
Really they don't.
Speaker 3 (50:47):
They don't have the speed on the edges that Forest
Hills Eastern does. Surprisingly, they've been better between the tackles tonight.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
So it's third down and four from the Forests Eastern
forty eight and the give is going to be the
Craner left. He's got a stiff arm, stays on his
feet and he fumbled it. The ball is losing it
is picked up by Max Ferrick and the Hawks have
it back. In a crazy game of hot potato, nobody
can hold onto the football, and it's consecutive fumble recoveries,
(51:16):
one for Whitehaull and now one for Forest Hills Eastern.
As Craner was trying to stay on his feet to
get that first down, he lost it and Forest Hills
Eastern gets it back.
Speaker 3 (51:24):
Yeah, Gavin Crater's beside himself there. He was just working
hard trying to get to that first down Steak, and
the ball got pried loose and you had another another
mistake for Whitehall. Now in this situation, Jay, we're less
than four minutes to go in the half. They're forty
three yards away from the end zone.
Speaker 2 (51:49):
First and ten, and we'll see Jordan Schabbaz run out
of the field late for the Hawks.
Speaker 1 (51:54):
He'll be split out on armor.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
He excuse me, he'll flank on Arnold's right Kias Peters
in motion and they give it.
Speaker 1 (52:00):
Gonna be to Shabaz running.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
Off left tackle, hit and dropped Cordy Anderson was able
to finish him off.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
Good job that time.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
By cole Asabaggers, who got the initial hit on him,
allowing Anderson to come make the play.
Speaker 3 (52:16):
Yeah, let's see if this Whitehall defense can can get
that stop. We talked about sort of the same situation
we were just in the team's traded fumbles and now
it's back to the Whitehall defense again to try to
keep the Vikings in the game.
Speaker 6 (52:31):
Again.
Speaker 3 (52:31):
It's been a crazy first half. Well, I'm sure we'll
try to recap it at halftime, but White Halls still
in the game, down fourteen to nothing.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
David Mohawk Caius Peters split out to the wide side
right and Arnold's gonna run left. He's inside the fort
He's spinning his way down to the thirty five yard line.
That's ninety yards for Jackson Arnold on second down, I'll
bring up third down.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
In short, I've been real impressed with Jackson Arnold stepping
into the stuff arding quarterback role. He has been running
hard him and Max Barrick have been a great one
to two punch and.
Speaker 2 (53:05):
If you could believe that, there's more bad news for
Whitehall already down their top two linebackers in Parker Mott
and Ryan Goodrich. Cole Assebaggers, who's been filling in admirably
at one of those linebacker spots, is still down on
the ground at the white Hall forty one yard line
being attended to by the Whitehall training staff. I mean,
you can't really afford to lose anybody for the Vikings,
(53:26):
but especially not an inside linebacker.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
No, it's been a crazy season for Whitehall injury wise.
They've had a couple of players quit the team, which
is not something that normally happens, at least in the
twelve years Tony Sigmund has been the head coach. And
then just the injuries down the stretch taking their toll.
And then to add all of that, a couple of
(53:51):
the wildest plays I've seen in my life both go
against Whitehall. It's just it just has not been let's say,
a good stretch here for the Vikings. We're hoping cole
Losa Baggers will be able to get up here. But
right now, you know, he's still down on the ground.
Not looking good.
Speaker 1 (54:12):
All right, we're gonna take a break.
Speaker 2 (54:13):
This is the Drive to Ford Field presented by Vanderlin's
Home Improvement on one oh seven m us the most
we'll be right back. Forty two seconds to play until
the half. Forest Hills Eastern leading white Hall fourteen to nothing.
And this does not look good. Cole Sebaggers is up
on his feet and he is limping off, but the
(54:34):
trainers are helping. I mean he's not putting a ton
of weight on the left leg. Whitehall already down several
inside linebackers.
Speaker 1 (54:44):
Forest Hills Eastern has a fourteen to.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
Nothing lead, and they have the football third down and
two on the fort and excuse me on the white
Hall thirty five yard line. Jason and Tom Kendra on
the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week. Winner of
this Division four Region one District one semifinal game, We'll
move on to play the winner of Luddington and Big
Rapids and next weekend's district final. Just got words that
that game is tied at seven in the second quarter.
(55:20):
Looks like Hunter Peterson at junior is going to step
in the game at linebacker for the Vikings and Arnold's
gonna run left, but he's hit in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
Hit and dropped.
Speaker 2 (55:27):
He lost a couple and that was Peterson who makes
the tackle. Welcome to the game. But they say he
got enough for a first down. Must have just barely
got it.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
Yeah, again, a little bit of second effort that time.
It's a you know, Jackson Arnold and Max Ferrick, these
two primary runners we've seen tonight for the Hawks. They
don't go down on first contact. They keep going and
the you know, the yards after contact. They've had a
lot of it tonight.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
So first down at ten of the thirty two power
formation this time for Ceosas are gonna run Max Ferrick
out to the right. Cam Thompson hits him and they're
gonna drop him after a minimal gain. Also in on
the play was number three Nate Bets. But a nice
job of pursuit by that Whitehall defense is the Hawks
were trying to get outside.
Speaker 3 (56:14):
Yeah, now the clocket it becomes a factor. Jay ticking
down to a minute and forty seconds to go and
they're still thirty two yards from the end zone. You
gotta believe they got to think about airing one out here.
Before too long.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
Well, we'll see the personnel changes a little bit. As
Shabbaz and Drew Ferrick check out of the game, Mohawk
and Peters are back in. So on second down and ten,
it's more of the spread formation. Hastetler will be one
tight end on the right side, Ferrick Max and Noah
Bartley on the right. Bartley goes in motion and we're
(56:51):
gonna have a procedure penalty. Here is Peter's in the slot.
Took off and he'll back it up to second down
in fifteen. So if you're just joining us, no Brendon TOMPs.
Tonight for Forestals Eastern it's been Jackson Arnold who's gone
the distance at quarterback for the Hawks. They leave it
fourteen to nothing, mostly on the legs of number twenty
Jackson Arnold, but also some insane lock.
Speaker 1 (57:11):
On the way the football has bounced tonight.
Speaker 6 (57:13):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 3 (57:15):
And here you see and Forrest's Easterns on it almost
exclusively on the ground with Brendan Thompson not playing. But
here third and long or second and long, the clock
chicken down. It looks like they have a passing play
set to go here, so.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
They mark off the five yard penalty back to the
thirty seven yard line. It will make it second down
and fifteen for the Hawks, who send mohawk out why
to the left. Peters is in the slot to the left,
same formation as the second and ten play with Bartley
in motion. Is an h back on the left hand side,
and now they'll fake the give on the jet to
(57:52):
Max Ferrick.
Speaker 1 (57:53):
Arnold will run it back.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Got the five yard back on the penalty. Maybe another,
but it will be three down a long as we go.
Under a minute to play in the second quarter.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
Yeah, the clock still ticking away. Joe Schwander not using
what does he have? Three or just one time out left?
Speaker 2 (58:10):
One time out left for four steals eastern. They are
thirty two yards away from the end zone. They are
still running Arnold all the way to the sideline to
get a play and then back to the huddle. Thirty
one seconds now to play that. But it is third
down and nine here for the Hawks. They need the
twenty three yard line to move the chains.
Speaker 6 (58:27):
While they are just letting that clock tick away.
Speaker 2 (58:30):
Twenty one seconds to play Arnold in the shotgun with
Ferrik to his left, Arnold's gonna pass pump fake now
he's looking deep going and it's gonna be intercepted. Cam
Thompson with a pick of the nine bought Johnson back
to the twenty. Now Thompson is gonna cut across the
field to the thirty. Cam Thompson to midfield. Cam Thompson
with one man to beat it to thirty five. Cam
Thompson's gonna bring it all the way back, get all
(58:52):
the way no flags on the field. It's a ninety
one yard interception return for Thompson and Whitehall is back
in the game. That is the final play of the
first half.
Speaker 6 (59:07):
Oh my, Jason Hutton.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
After everything we've seen in this half, every play that
could have gone against Whitehall went against Whitehall, and all
in one play Camden Thompson gets almost all of it
back a ninety one yard interception return to make this
a one score game at the half.
Speaker 6 (59:27):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (59:28):
So White Holl's gonna attempt the extra point. Ryan Goodrich,
the outstanding inside linebacker who was lost for the season
in Week seven, is the long snapper, so they've had
to go with number fifty one Doug verber moos for Burke.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
Most excuse me, white.
Speaker 2 (59:45):
Hell's gonna call a time out here to talk over
this extra point, Tony said, we want to talk about
but back to Goodrich.
Speaker 1 (59:49):
So Goodrich is the long snapper.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
He's been out since Week seven with the torn acl
Verburt Most number fifty one at Junior has filled in
at long st Cam Thompson is the holder and the
kicker is going to be forty five jud Musk, just
a freshman who has not been the extra point kicker
off season. In fact, White House use three different guys
before Musk who's doing the job here. But Tom white
(01:00:14):
is gonna get the football to start the second half.
These extra points if this game stays close, do become vital.
And they've got new players both at place kicker and
long snapper.
Speaker 6 (01:00:23):
That's right, and it almost leads you to think, geez,
should they.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
Just go for two on these and have a better chance.
But it looks like they are gonna kick here.
Speaker 6 (01:00:31):
But you made a good point.
Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
All the momentum that was all in Forrest Hills Easterns
Department has just shifted and the Whitehall's gonna go into
the half just one score down and getting the ball.
Speaker 6 (01:00:44):
So what a turn of events.
Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
The ninety one yard interception return for a touchdown by
Cam Thompson was the final play of the first half.
Now we're ready to go with the extra point. The
snap is good, Thompson gets it down and must gets
it up.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
And it's right through the uprights. No problem at all.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
That will make our score for Stills Eastern fourteen and
Whitehall seven.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
It is halftime.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Stay tuned for the preferred automotive halftime show. But coming
up right after this break, we're gonna hear from this

Do you remember the last time Rockford missed the MHSAA
football Playoffs? The Rams have played in every postseason since
missing in nineteen ninety four. They qualify for a twenty
(01:01:50):
ninth straight time this year, the longest streak in history.
The pairings were set on Sunday in two hundred and
fifty six teams, an eleven player and thirty two more
and eight player found out who they would have to
beat to earn a spot in the second round. Now,
besides Rockford, a couple of other teams extended long streaks.
Crystal Falls Forest Park qualified for a twenty seventh straight time,
(01:02:12):
Jackson Luman Christie for a twenty sixth straight time, and
Macomb Dakota for a twenty third straight time. Muskegan, who
had the fifth longest streak going, failed to make the
playoffs this year, so not only is their streak over,
but that means Division two will have a new champion
this year, as the Big Reds were the defending champs.
There's going to be a new champion Division one this
(01:02:32):
year as well. Last year's champ Southfield A and T
did not qualify for the playoffs and won't be back
to defend its title. Division seven is going to see
a new champion as well. Last year's champ, Jackson Luman Christie,
is now in Division six. Everyone else who won a
title last year is back in the same division this year,
eager to hoist the trophy a second straight time. To

to nothing with a second extra point and now the
final play the first half, White Hell got on the

Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
You know that game at West Catholic, the Falcons jumped
out to a thirteen to nothing lead. Looked like they
were just gonna run away from Oakridge, but the Eagles
are fighting back.
Speaker 6 (01:07:53):
Latest score we have there is West Catholic.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Nineteen Oakridge fourteen, So the Eagles putting up a good
fight there. Game of a lot of interest to Whitehall
and Forest Hills. Eastern is up at Big Rapids and
that's another great game. Luddington having a very good game
so far. That fourteen to fourteen is the last score
in that game. Of course, the winner of that game
(01:08:15):
will play the winner of this game. Mona Shores fourteen,
Traverse City West zero over on our ninety six point
one game of the week, Byron Center has a ten
to three lead over Northview. It's New Wago six, Montague three,
and North Muskegan trying to make another run after making
it to the semi finals last year.
Speaker 6 (01:08:36):
They're all over Ever twenty to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
I got a couple other D five scores to go
along with your West Cavi Gogrig score gram as Callock
Central leading Hopkins fourteen to nothing at the half, and
Belding all over Sagan of Swan Valley thirty to nothing
at Roudness Field.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
Let's take a look at some of.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
The first half statistics from our game with for Stills
Eastern leading Whitehall tonight fourteen to seven. The Hawks with
one hundred in ninety eight yards to total offense to
just fifty seven for Whitehall. One hundred and sixty three
of those are on the ground. For Forestals Eastern white
Hall with forty four rushing yards individually. The Vikings have
been led by Gavin Kraaner five carries forty one yards,
(01:09:15):
Nate Betts four carries for five yards. Thompson's one for
one through the air for thirteen yards that passed complete
to courd A.
Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
Anderson for the Hawks, Jackson Arnold.
Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
Filling in a quarterback tonight, as we have not seen
Brendon Thompson on the field or even on the sideline
for the Hawks, their normal starting quarterback. Arnold sixteen carries
one hundred three yards and a touchdown. Max Ferrick nine
carries forty one yards. For Forestales Eastern. Arnold through the
air two for four for thirty five yards and the
interception which was returned for a touchdown. Noel Bartley has
(01:09:46):
a thirty four yard reception that of course coming after
the blocked punt where Arnold also the punter picked it
up and completed to Bartley. Maybe most impressively, somehow Forsts
Eastern didn't have any ineligible receivers downfield on that block punt.
Kayus Peters has the other Forest Hills Eastern reception for
a fourteen to seven game. At the halftime, Cander we
(01:10:09):
take a look at that that was just a wild half,
especially that second Forest Hills Eastern drive where after the
way Hew fumble they were backed up to their own
three ended up having to punt on fourth down from
their two, the punt is blocked, Arnold picks it up
and throws thirty four yards for completion, and then later
in the drive, Forestalls Eastern fumbles, but the Drew Ferrick,
(01:10:31):
the h back, was able to pick up the fumble
and run it in for the Hawks for a fourteen
nothing lead. But everything changes on that last play with
the Cam Thompson interception ret.
Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
Well that's right, everything had, Every single thing had gone
Forest Hills Eastern's way until the last play, and that
last play almost nullified everything else that happened before it.
But I'm still wondering, you know about that blocked punt.
Speaker 6 (01:10:54):
You know, we've seen it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
How many times in football when a punt is blocked,
someone scoops up the and runs with it.
Speaker 6 (01:11:00):
That's no big deal.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
I can't remember a time I've ever seen after a
blocked punt someone picks up the ball and passes it
down the field.
Speaker 6 (01:11:10):
Apparently it's legal.
Speaker 3 (01:11:12):
I mean, we didn't see a whole lot of arguing
out of the Whitehall coaching staff, so maybe they don't
know the rule either. But whatever, it worked out great
for the Hawks, who looked like they were going to
go into the half with a huge advantage. You know,
kind of I thought poor clock management there at the
end for the Hawks, you know, kind of letting the
clock the tick tick tick away. I thought they might
(01:11:34):
try to, you know, maybe do something, get into field
gold range for Charlie suit. But instead, you know, with
a with a guy like Cam Thompson, you know, you think, oh,
we'll throw it down there.
Speaker 6 (01:11:45):
If they intercept it, no big deal.
Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
But with a guy like Cam Thompson, he's a threat
anytime he gets the ball out in the open, and
he showed it their ninety one yard interception return to
completely flip this game around.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
After what we saw in the first twenty four minutes.
I don't even have a clue as to what's gonna
unfold here in the second half, but I can't wait
to find out. This has been the preferred automotive halftime show.
We'll step aside on the drive to Ford Field presented
by Vanderlin's Home Improvement. When we come back, we look
at some keys to the second half and have the
second half kickoff. This is the MCU Lake Shore Game
of the Week on one O seven mus the most
(01:12:22):
gander back at Forest Hills Eastern High School we're getting
ready to start the second half. Hawks lead the Vikings
fourteen to seven in this Division four, Region one, District
one semifinal game. Tom Cander, how about some keys to
the second half starting with the Vikings.
Speaker 6 (01:12:35):
Well, I think the Vikings they went in with the momentum.
They got to be feeling good.
Speaker 3 (01:12:39):
I could just hear Tony Sigmund at halftime telling his team,
we're gonna win this game after everything went against us,
and we still have a shot at.
Speaker 6 (01:12:47):
You kidding me.
Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
So, I think they did a good job Gavin crane
A running the ball between the tackles. I think they
need to continue to do that to keep the defense
honest and that will open up opportunities for Cam Thompson.
So I think they did a good job running it
with cran Er. I think they need to stick with that,
keep the ball away from Forest Hills Eastern and have
(01:13:10):
a chance to come back and win.
Speaker 2 (01:13:12):
I think white Whitehall's gotta, you know, Key Stratt, and
they got to they got to stuff to box here,
and they got to keep forces Eason for running between
the tackles with Jackson Arnold because right now he is
just gashing them. However, Whitehall has been able to make
some plays in the red zone to stay alive.
Speaker 1 (01:13:25):
How about for the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
Yeah again, you know, for the first time, right at
the end of the half, we saw the effect of
not having their senior quarterback Brendon Thompson. I mean, up
until then, Jackson Arnold had been outstanding.
Speaker 6 (01:13:38):
They're gonna have to mix in a few pass.
Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
Plays because, like you said, I think Whitehall is really
gonna stack the box, dare him to throw it. Forrest
Hills Eastern has to be able to do it at
least a little bit to win this game.
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
I think the Hawk's gotta contain cam Thompson right, keep
him in the pocket, don't let him get outside the pocket,
make plays.
Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
That's where he's the most dangerous.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
So Whitehlll's gonna get the football to start the second half,
Blake English and Cam Thompson back at their own five
yard line, and this will be kicked away from the
Vikings and it will go into the end zone for
a touchback.
Speaker 6 (01:14:08):
Oh Raterly, Blake.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
English looked like he was gonna let it go out
of bounds. It certainly appeared like it was gonna go
out of bounds. But like almost every other bounce tonight.
It took the path of the fur Seals Eastern Hawks,
but it did eventually end up in the zone for
a touchback.
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
Wouldn't that have been something that just fitting with the
way this game has been If that ball would have
rolled dead at the one yard line, have four Shills
Eastern jump on it right there at first and goal
from the one. Thankfully for Whitehall, it just rolled into
the end zone for a touchback and they'll start at
the twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Well, here comes a pretty important drive for Whitehall. They
had it all of two times in the first half
time Kendra check that three. They fumbled twice and they
had one punt. So on first down, Thompson gonna keep
gonna hand it to Craner. Craner goes for a couple
over right guard. Look like Noah Bartley made that play
(01:15:02):
for the Hawks.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
It'll be second down.
Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
It's a good thing Bartley did too, because there was
some running room there. Another nice hole in the middle
of the line there generated by the right side of
that Whitehall line Jacob Elger and Peyton austen Fort. But
a good play by the by Bartley prevented a big run.
Speaker 1 (01:15:21):
On second down. They'll go back to Craner overright tackle.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
He's over the twenty five and he dropped it about
the twenty seven yard line. Connor Hominsky makes the Tackle'll
be third short Hawks.
Speaker 6 (01:15:33):
Yeah again, I think they.
Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
Tony Sigmund and their staff they saw at halftime that
they were having success running Craner, and some first two
plays of the second half are Craner runs. But now
it brings up a huge play third and four here Whitehall.
Speaker 6 (01:15:47):
Needs to pick this up.
Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
English goes in motion, but they're gonna stay with Craner.
He puts his head down and he did not get there.
He's about a yard shy. It'll be fourth down and one.
Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
Drew Ferrick with the tack.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
Wow, they tried to go to the well one more time.
Let's see what Tony Sigmund does here.
Speaker 6 (01:16:06):
Trailing by seven on the road. Remember Cam Thompson, the
senior quarterback, is also the punter. He can easily step
back and punt this where.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
They're gonna send twins to the left side morning stars
on h back to the right, hard count for Thompson
who's in a standard shotgun with Cranner next to him.
On fourth down and one from their own twenty nine
yard line. Jackson Arnold, the safety, runs up to the
line of scrimmage. Now he retreats and they're gonna go Cranterer.
He's got a first down. More Craner to the forty.
He's in the open field at midfield, Gavin Craner at
(01:16:36):
the forty five and finally drop near the forty yard
line by Garrett Johns, but not before.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
He gets thirty yards in a first down.
Speaker 3 (01:16:44):
What a gutsy call there by Tony sigmund I think
it looked like he was just gonna try to draw
him off sides and then have Thompson step back and
punt it away. But no, they just said they go
for it. Their confidence in his players, and Gavin, in
his fourth straight carry to start the second half, picks
up the first down and more and now Whitehall is
(01:17:06):
on the move.
Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
Ten minutes four seconds to play third quarter, clock running
Blake English in motion on first and ten, and they're
gonna run the option his way. Thompson with he's gonna
keep it, puts his head down and gets maybe a yard.
Nice job that time by Adam Deneue.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
It'll be second and long.
Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
That's the first time they've run the option Jason since
they had that fumble down at the goal line, and
you just get nervous every time you see you know,
Cam Thompson's dangerous, but he carries the ball out there
in one arm a lot of times and you worry
about that. But that time he was able to tuck
it in and get at least something out of it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Second down and nine from the forests eastern forty one,
and they're gonna go back to Craner, Craner down to
the forty but only a yard. It'll be third down
and long for the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (01:17:53):
Well, you gotta believe Jason if Tony Sigmun's gonna go
for it at.
Speaker 6 (01:17:58):
Basically his own thirty yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
That now that the White House on the other side
of the fifty, that this is four down territory. But
I would expect to see I'd like to see him
get Thompson involved here, maybe on a designed quarterback draw
here might be a good call.
Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
Aiden Mendoza, the junior is checked in the game at
wide receiver. He split out wide side of the left
and they're going to pass to Corday Anderson. He has
it inside the thirty down to the twenty nine yard
line a game of eleven looked very similar to the
play that Thompson and Anderson hooked up on in the
first drive.
Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
You're right, Jason, I was just gonna say that it
was the same Play's was the only completion I believe,
wasn't that only pass he threw? And it was the
exact same pass again, that little out route right by
the White holl sideline, and it worked again first down.
Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
So same formation here, trips to the left with Osborne,
English and Mendoza, and it's gonna be Thompson in the
quarterback power.
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
He's inside the twenty. He still on his feet at
the ten camp.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
Thompson into the end zone and the Vikings are an
extra point away from.
Speaker 1 (01:18:58):
Tying this game.
Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
After twenty nine yard touchdown run from senior quarterback Camden Thompson.
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
That's the play I was waiting for, Jason. They kept
giving it to Craner, giving it to Craner, giving it
to Craner.
Speaker 6 (01:19:10):
In that time, faked it to Craner.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Thompson pulls it in himself and dashes up the middle.
I mean, you see his athletic ability at six ' five,
but his burst up the middle and being able to
break tackles a beautiful They set that play up and
Cam Thompson delivered it, and we're an extra point away
from a tie game.
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
And extra point is good from Judd Musk the Freshman,
and we are tied FORSTLLS Eastern fourteen Whitehall fourteen eight
to twenty seven to play in the third quarter. This
is the Drive to Ford Field, presented by Vanderlin's Home
Improvement on one oh seven m Us the Moss.
Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
We'll be right back with a kick off.
Speaker 2 (01:19:56):
Did not forget that The archive of tonight's broadcast be

So after the Cam Thompson twenty nine aer touchdown run,
Whitehalls tied the game, and they're kicking it deep.
Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
The freshman musk tease it up.
Speaker 2 (01:20:42):
And Arnold and Ferrett go back at their own ten
yard line and here a high short kick that abounts
to twenty one. Arnold will take it on a hop
at the seventeen with the head of steam across the thirty,
now to the forty and finally dragged down at the
forty two yard line. But excellent field position for the
Hawks as they get the ball for the first time
in this third quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
Time come.
Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
Yeah, I just got looking at the rapid radio scoreboard.
How about the North Muskegan Norseman. I think they came
out ready to play tonight Jay in Division seven forty
nine to nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:21:11):
They lead.
Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
Ever that's listed still is a second quarter score, but wow,
the norse just maybe taking out a little aggression on Ever.
They weren't at their their best last week against oak Ridge,
but maybe it woke them up.
Speaker 6 (01:21:26):
But the Norseman rolling so far tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
Interesting when the MHSA web page was first updated, is
that's Saturday at one for that game?
Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
Of course? That ends up being Friday at seven.
Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
I think second down in ten, excellent job by Gavin Kraaner.
Speaker 6 (01:21:40):
Wow, and I'm looking over at that white Hall sideline.
Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
Look at Kyle Stratton, the a veteran defensive coordinator. Of course,
his son, I'm sorry, Keith Stratton, the defensive coordinator.
Speaker 6 (01:21:50):
His son is Kyle Stratton.
Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
I'd let coast.
Speaker 3 (01:21:53):
Yeah, that was the great quarterback here, but Keith is
fired up right now.
Speaker 6 (01:21:58):
Whitehall.
Speaker 3 (01:21:59):
You think how they were to be in hot of
this game, it was almost twenty one to nothing. Things
have completely turned here.
Speaker 2 (01:22:05):
Second down and ten, Arnold will be in an empty backfield.
He sends Noah Bartley in motion from the right age
to the left and here comes Max Ferrick. They'll fake
it's a fairic now Arnold running, but he's.
Speaker 1 (01:22:15):
Hitt and dropped to the backfield. Another loss. It's Craner
again and it's gonna set up third and eleven.
Speaker 6 (01:22:20):
Wow, what we're seeing here, Jay Whitehall doing a much
better job, not allowing Arnold to get to bounce it
off tackle like that. They have people there turning him,
turning him in, and.
Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
Then the rest of the Vikings are coming and cleaning
him up and now this is.
Speaker 6 (01:22:36):
Just where Whitehall wants at third and long.
Speaker 3 (01:22:39):
The Hawks have not shown the ability to throw the
ball without Brendan Thompson, so now they're putting them in
a situation they don't want to be in a passing situation.
Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
Well, Arnold was able to run and run effectively that
entire first half.
Speaker 1 (01:22:53):
You could see.
Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
It's been an emphasis for the Vikings to contain him
in so far too. Carries negative one yard here in
this third court, and they're gonna give the ball this
time to Ferrik and the jet motion.
Speaker 1 (01:23:03):
But we have an illegal procedure.
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
The play has stopped, and now it's going to be
third and sixteen for the Hawks.
Speaker 6 (01:23:11):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:23:13):
Again, you see the momentum in high school football, Jason.
You know, it's funny how everything was going the Hawk's
way in the first half and ever since that interception
return right at the end of the first half for Whitehall,
things have completely switched around.
Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
So the five yard penalty moves it back to the
Forest Sills eastern thirty seven yard line. They need the
white Hall forty seven for a first down. Third and sixteen.
Clock is running six minutes forty seconds to play third quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:23:42):
We are tied.
Speaker 2 (01:23:43):
Whitehall fourteen, forestals Eastern fourteen. Arnold in the gun on
third down, and they're gonna hand it off to Max
Ferrick running right. He's got very very little maybe a yard.
It's fourth and very long. Brock morning Star, and many
others in the bottom of that pile.
Speaker 6 (01:23:59):
Yeah, great job over there.
Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Ian Hanson has played a great game tonight, number seventy
one for Whitehall, you know, filling in for other injured
players on that defensive line. But uh yeah, gang tackling.
Nate Betts was in on that stop. Now, now what
do you do? Fourth and fifteen?
Speaker 1 (01:24:15):
You punt?
Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
They've got upon it from their own thirty eight yard line.
Whitehall is not buying it. They're gonna be in a
safe defense.
Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
Thompson's at midfield at double safety with Hunter Osborne. Now
Thompson starts to back up a little bit, Jackson. Arnold's
gonna come out of huddle and he's in a normal
shotgun formation with Ferrick on his right. But I do
believe this is gonna be a punt. Arnold stands up
and looks over to the sideline to get the call
(01:24:43):
from Joe Schwander, and now four steals. Eastern's gonna take
a time out, so we'll take it with him. We'll
come back with the fourth down play. Right after this,
you're listening to the Drive to Ford Field presented by
Vanderlin's Home Improvement on one O seven mus the Moos
in Forest Hill's Eastern fourteen Jason and Tom Kender on
(01:25:04):
the LMCU Lake Shore Game of the Week. Fourth down
and fifteen for the Hawks. Arnold takes the snap and
he is gonna punt it, and he's gonna kick it
away from Thompson. It'll bounce it to twenty five and
goes sideways and out of bounds at about the twenty
one yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:25:20):
So forty yard punts, no return.
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Pretty nice punt that time by Arnold, who is the
long snapper, the punter tonight, he's also the quarterback. He's
doing it all for Forestalls Eastern here, but he's get
it back here with all the momentum, it seems Tom.
Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
Yeah, And maybe the best thing Arnold did on that
punt was punted it away from Cam Thompson, because I
was just thinking, you know, punning it to Thompson is
not a good idea, especially the way he's been playing
here tonight. So Arnold angled that punt away from Thompson
and prevented any kind of return. But you're right, Whitehall
(01:25:55):
all the momentum here fourteen straight points looking to add
to it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
So they'll spot it at the white Hall twenty. Want
to make it a forty one yard punt from Arnold
and Campson's gonna keep it on first down, and he
does a pretty good job just to get a couple
out to about the twenty five yard line. All kinds
of problems in the backfield, and now Thompson gets thrown
down well out of bounds and that's gonna be fifteen
more yards and that's gonna be a first down for Whitehall.
Speaker 6 (01:26:19):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:26:20):
Yeah, that time to Thompson, you know, just he dances
along the sidelines and.
Speaker 6 (01:26:24):
Just just stepped out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
You could see where the the hawk defender wanted to
just throw him to the ground, but you've got to
show restraint there.
Speaker 6 (01:26:33):
That was an easy flag for the rough to throw.
Speaker 1 (01:26:38):
So they'll mark this off.
Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
He went out of bounds at twenty five, it would
have been a gain of four, but with the fifteen yards,
they'll mark it off to the forty yard line, it'll
be first and ten Whitehall and at this point for
SoSE Eastern's got to find something to stop this white
Hall momentum.
Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
The Hawks had a fourteen nothing lead.
Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
On the last play of the second quarter, Cam Thompson
intercepts the pass return it ninety one yards for a score.
Then Whitehall gets the opening kick off of the second half,
drives down the field and scores in a twenty nine
Hoar Thompson run, and then they force the three.
Speaker 1 (01:27:08):
And out and they've got it back.
Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
Well, one of the big surprises series. There have been
virtually no passing in this game.
Speaker 1 (01:27:15):
And then first down, Thompson running the option to the right,
keeps it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
Now he turns it back to the left, Thompson into
Forest Hills Eastern territory at the forty and Thompson will
go out of bounds at the thirty five yard and
we have a flag down. This will probably go against
the Vikings. It's a twenty five yard run for Thompson
if it stands.
Speaker 1 (01:27:33):
But I do believe it'll be coming back.
Speaker 3 (01:27:36):
Yeah, it looks like they're gonna get a block in
the back down the field against Whitehall. But like I
was talking about, I think we expected Forest Hills Eastern
to shut down the run a little better than they
have kind of force Whitehall to throw it. You know,
Whitehall hasn't had to throw it much at all. They've
been using Craner and then using Thompson running the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:28:00):
So they'll call holding.
Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
It'll be from the spot of the follow which was
at the Forestals Eastern forty three, so they move it
back to the forty seven. It will be first down
and three for the Vikings on their own forty seven
yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:28:13):
Yeah, so that's a case where, yeah, you get the
holding call, but it was still a pretty good play
still like a like a seven yard run because the
hold was well down the field.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
When you look at this Forestals Eastern lineup, they've got
Dylan Langdon at nose tackle and Adam Deneue at defensive end.
Ace Simonson, their senior all returning stater, is normally their
other defensive end. He has not played much defense tonight.
He's been bothered with an ankle injury most of the season.
So we see Jordan Shabbaz, the sophomore when mostly plays
(01:28:47):
inside linebackers, lined up on that defensive line, and Whitehall
is gonna run Haunter Osborne on the jet, which didn't
work in the first half. This time it'll get him four.
He will cross midfield and get a first down for
Whitehall before he's pushed back.
Speaker 6 (01:29:00):
Yeah, that time Hunter Osborne turned it upfield. You know,
on its first two.
Speaker 3 (01:29:06):
Week plays like that, he just kept running horizontally. That
time Osborne turned it up got the first down, and
Whitehall's on the other side of the fifty.
Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
So getting back to the defensive line situation for the Hawks,
I have not noticed a Simonson play any defense. He
is playing his right guard spot on offense, but I
haven't seen him out there on defense. So here in
the second half, Shabbaz, who's an outstanding sophomore, can really
run as a running back at the bright future here
with the Hawks, has been playing defensive end, and now
these last couple of plays he switched to the nose
and Langdon has moved out to the defensive end. So
(01:29:39):
it is first down and ten for Whitehall from the
four steels eastern forty eight yard line. After the five
yard run from Osborne, Thompson's in the gun and we're
going to get a time out. Whitehall is going to
take a time out here with four twenty eight to
play in.
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
The third quarter and Tom.
Speaker 2 (01:29:54):
We talked about this a little bit last week in
Week nine about how the tournament is run in the
state of Michigan, and there are a lot of people
that think the tournament should be seated more than just
the district tournament, and the MICHIGANIG School Coaches Association President
Andrew Prattley, who's the head coach at Saint Joe, tweeted
this week that he feels like the idea.
Speaker 1 (01:30:14):
Of seating in the regional should get some more momentum.
Speaker 2 (01:30:17):
The mhsa's Executive Council would need to approve that they
have not done that at that point.
Speaker 1 (01:30:23):
But let's just take a look at what the region
would look like. Let's take this region.
Speaker 2 (01:30:26):
For instance, Unity Christian would be the one and playing
Hamilton eight.
Speaker 1 (01:30:30):
That matchup is happening tonight. The two seed would be
Big Rapids.
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
They would be hosting wedding to that matchup is happening tonight.
That Forest Dilzis would be the three and they would
play Holland Christian and Whitehall would be the four and
they would play South Christian. We'd be sitting at Whitehall
right now calling the Whitehall South Christian game.
Speaker 1 (01:30:45):
So very little difference is here.
Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
More than anything, it would impact like a Monague who
instead of going thirty two miles tonight's playing Awago, had
to go two hundred and eight miles to play Alman.
I want to get your thoughts on that in a minute,
but we're ready to resume play.
Speaker 1 (01:30:57):
First.
Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
In ten to forty eight, Thompson's going to hand it
to Craner up the middle, bounces off a tackle and
gets about three to the forty five yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:31:06):
Now this kind of game, you know, this is Gavin
Craner time. He's again he's not a fast kid, but
he's just so tough, a state champion wrestler, and I
expect to see a lot more of Gavin Kraner here.
Now Whitehall doesn't have to be in a hurry anymore.
They've tied up the game and they've got the ball.
They want to use as much clock as they can here.
Speaker 2 (01:31:28):
Interesting, Wow, the little Forest Hills Eastern Meds and they've
got morning Stars and h back and they've got Bets
and Craner both in the backfield next to Thompson. They'll
hand it to Craner who runs behind Bets and he
gets five down to the forty yard line before Dylan
Langdon makes the tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:31:43):
But it'll be third and short now for Whitehall. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:31:45):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:31:46):
Jason by Tony Sigman throwing a different look at this
Forest Hills Eastern defense. Probably something they didn't see on film,
you know, with a couple of two running backs back
there with Thompson and maybe you seeing that other back
as a blocking back leading the way.
Speaker 1 (01:32:03):
Same formation this time.
Speaker 2 (01:32:04):
Morning starts the h on the left and Thompson's gonna
keep it running left. He's able to turn the corner
at the forty He's got a first down inside the
thirty five and down at the thirty three yard line
before Jordan Shabaz makes the tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:32:15):
But Thompson's got a white hole first down.
Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
You saw the speed that time of Cam Thompson because
that play was was well read there by. I believe
it was number thirty two, thirty three, Oh yeah, yeah,
number thirty three Hostetler, he had the edge on him there,
but the speed of Thompson, he was able to burst
around the left edge just enough to get that first down.
Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
So the chain's moving the clock runs for under three
minutes to play in the third quarter. We got a
tie football game. White hol on the move, trying to
change at Thompson back to pass. Now he's gonna step up,
rolling to the right, and now he's gonna run Thompson
to the thirty and he'll be hit and knocked out
a bounds at about the twenty eight yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
But it's a six yard gain on first down.
Speaker 3 (01:32:57):
Wow, we're starting to see Cam Thompson at his very best.
Jay you saw there drop back to throw it a
huge rush here, but with a guy like him, that
doesn't matter, because he's able to take off and run
for a nice six almost seven yard gain out of nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
And now we'll see Bets and Mendoza check out of
the game. Excuse me, Mendoza into the game. Bets and
Morning Star checkout of the game. So it's back to
four wide, English and Osborne in the slots. Anderson and
Mendoza are the wide receivers, and Craner stands next to Thompson,
who's in the gun. I'm second down in three from
the twenty eight and they're gonna run Craner up the middle.
(01:33:33):
He's got a first down inside the twenty five to
about the twenty four yard line tackle made by Brandon Ford.
But it'll be a Whitehall first down right now.
Speaker 3 (01:33:43):
Whitehall doing a nice job mixing up their running plays.
Still almost all running plays, but they're using Craner, they're
using Thompson, maybe a Hunter Osbourne a little bit here
and there.
Speaker 6 (01:33:54):
But how about the line play so far for Whitehall.
Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
Connor Nash, Jack Ambrose, Jamison, Jeffrey Jacob Elger and Peyton
Ossa Fort doing a nice job up front.
Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
Minute forty nine to play in the third quarter. They're
gonna stick with Craner on the ground. He's gonna be
down close to the fifteen yard line. Another nine yards
for Craner on first down, and white All is just
getting behind that senior laiden offensive line and they're moving
the football.
Speaker 3 (01:34:17):
Yeah, you see the momentum. They're feeling it right now.
They're saying, hey, we're starting to push these guys around
a little bit up front. There's no need to do anything,
I don't think right now. Gavin Craner and Cam Thompson
back and forth all the way into the end zone.
Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
So go back to Morning Star as an ah and
they've got Bets and Cranner next to Thompson and they're
gonna give it.
Speaker 1 (01:34:39):
No, it's a play action and the pass.
Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
Is complete to morning Star, who dives and he's gonna
be out of bounds, just.
Speaker 1 (01:34:46):
Shy of the one yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
Excellent play, a fake from Thompson who went right on
the boot leg and hit morning Star and it's gonna
be first and goal inside the one.
Speaker 3 (01:34:55):
Right after I say, they don't need to do anything
but give it to those two. A great play call,
great play action pass, and a very safe pass to
morning Star. I thought he was in. I thought he'd
do oven hit the pile on. Isn't that a touchdown?
Speaker 1 (01:35:08):
It was the Farney sideline, so they ruled out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (01:35:10):
At the one minute eight to play third quarter, Thompson
keeps it on the option to the right, pitches it
to Bets and Bets is going to be in for
the touchdown. Nate Bets in the one yard touchdown run
and Whitehall takes the lead for the first time tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:35:26):
Wow, what a gutsy play call there by Tony Siegmund.
After Whitehall fumbled on that same play, that same option
pitch play in the first half, right down at the
goal line. They go back to it and even with
all the injuries, Nate Betts, he's a guy who's had
to step in for injured players, takes the option pitch
from Cam Thompson, dives into the end zone for the score.
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
One minute two seconds to play in the third quarter,
jud Muskin for the extra point and the kick is
off the left, upright and in it is good. Muscus
three for three on extra points and Whitehall has extended
lead now to twenty one fourteen over Forest Hills Eastern
with one minute and two seconds to play in the
third quarter. Recapping that Viking drive, eleven plays, seventy nine yards,
(01:36:14):
it takes four minutes and twenty eight seconds, and it's
cap with the Nate Bets one yard touchdown run on
the option to the right. So, Tom, can I get
your thoughts on seating the regional Do you think that's
something that you'd like.
Speaker 1 (01:36:26):
And isn't realistic to see it happen.
Speaker 6 (01:36:28):
I think it's very realistic to happen.
Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
Really, the thing, the biggest benefit to me is these
teams that are always stuck in the same four team
district with one of a state powerhouse. I think of
like Zealand East, they always have to play Zealand West
either in the first or second round.
Speaker 6 (01:36:47):
At least if they go to.
Speaker 3 (01:36:48):
This format, they wouldn't necessarily have to see them year
after year after year. That's the aspect of it I
like the most.
Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
You and I are considering a district final in Division
two next week if Mona Shores gets there against the
Byron Center and Northview winner that if you see the region,
there would be Mona Shores the one against the eight
ports Northern.
Speaker 1 (01:37:06):
Byron Center would be playing Traverse City West tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:37:08):
Northview would have a home game, which I think is
the big argument here at undefeated season playing Lancing Everett
and Portan CenTra will be playing Madawan, and we would
not potentially see Byron Center against excuse me, Mona Shores
against either Byron Center or Northview until the regional finals.
So Musk kicks it off. It's a high short kick
Forest Hills Eastern up. Man takes it number eighty four Michaelman,
(01:37:29):
excuse me, Manel Connors and he brings it back across
the thirty to about the thirty three yards.
Speaker 6 (01:37:36):
So Jason.
Speaker 3 (01:37:36):
In this game, we saw a fourteen to nothing lead
for Forest Hills Eastern. Then the ninety one yard interception
return on the last play of the first half completely
turn things around. Whitehall with two long scoring drives there
in the third quarter twenty one to fourteen lead the Hawks.
They need to answer here, and they need to answer
(01:37:57):
in a hurry. We're almost into the fourth quarter and
so far in this half their offense is stalled out.
Speaker 2 (01:38:03):
This will be just the second time this quarter the
for Salsasions had the football kind of reversal the first
half where the Hawks dominated time of possession, but for
Stals Eastern went three and out on its opening possession
of this third quarter. But they have it first and
ten on their own thirty two yard line and they're
gonna run Max.
Speaker 1 (01:38:17):
Ferrick to the right.
Speaker 2 (01:38:19):
Bets the first to hit him and he'll eventually get
four out to the thirty six.
Speaker 3 (01:38:23):
Another great job by the Whitehall front there. You really
got a what a heroic effort really for this Whitehall
team has banged up as they are, and Cole lots
of baggers went out there in the second quarter.
Speaker 6 (01:38:38):
I don't think we've seen him back in the game.
Speaker 3 (01:38:39):
He wasn't putting any weight on that leg, but just
a lot of different people stepping up, and yeah, right
now they really have seized control already.
Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
Down Parker Mott and Ryan Goodrich the inside linebacker position.
Cole assbaggers left in the second quarter. Tell you what
Hunter Peterson stepped into.
Speaker 1 (01:38:58):
Done a nice job.
Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
And here's Arnold running on second He's got a first
down to the forty five and he's out close to
midfield before Blake English makes the tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:39:06):
But it's gonna be a gain of fourteen for the quarterback.
Speaker 6 (01:39:09):
Oh, a good hard run there by Jackson Arnold.
Speaker 1 (01:39:11):
He is a tough kid.
Speaker 6 (01:39:12):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 3 (01:39:13):
He may not be their regular starting quarterback, but outside
of that one bad pass to Thompson, he has played
a great game here tonight. And you saw in that
run he's he's determined to lead his team back.
Speaker 2 (01:39:25):
And that is the final play of the third quarter,
twelve minutes left. Whitehall leads four seals Eastern twenty one
to fourteen. On the drive to Ford Field, presented by
Vanderlin's Homan Provemount one oh seven mus the Moose.
Speaker 1 (01:39:37):
We'll be back with the fourth quarter right after this.
Speaker 2 (01:39:47):
Jason and Tom Kendrick back at Hawk Stadium, white Hall
leading Ford steals Eastern twenty one to fourteen. As we
start the fourth quarter, Jackson Arnold fakes the jet and
he's gonna run started to the right, now to the left.
Speaker 1 (01:39:57):
He's gonna get five.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
Yards down to about the forty five Before Cam did
Thompson makes the tackle, it'll be second down.
Speaker 1 (01:40:04):
For the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
Yeah, great play by Thompson turning that run in and
then also not only turning him in but also making
the tackle. We've talked a lot about Cam Thompson, the
six to five quarterback for Whitehall. He's also a heck
of a defensive player at safety fifty tackles coming into
this game, and he's played a great game on that
(01:40:24):
side of the ball, obviously with a ninety one yard
interception return.
Speaker 2 (01:40:28):
So I'll move it to the forty five second and
five and Arnold's going to hand it to Ferrick over
left tackle. He falls forward to about the forty two.
Need the forty for a first down, so to be
third down. As Gavin Kraaner was.
Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
In there, we talked about this being kind of a
musk drive here for the Hawks. They giving up three
straight scores. They need to get them some momentum back
and try to tie up this game. Right now, they
have a third and short, but I think it's without
doubt four down territory.
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
Well, I think it's Jackson Arnold territory. Third and two,
ten minutes, fifty seconds to play.
Speaker 1 (01:41:02):
The game.
Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
Hawk's trail by seven, and it's Arnold running right steps
out of a tackle in the backfield. He's gonna get
a first down. Maybe now they say the ball is out,
the officials are gonna rule him down.
Speaker 1 (01:41:13):
The officials will rule him down.
Speaker 2 (01:41:14):
Hunter Peterson made the tackle for Whitehall right at the sticks.
We'll have to see where they spot this, but I
do believe he got enough and he.
Speaker 1 (01:41:22):
Did donald down.
Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
Yeah that time Whitehall, you know, the defense reaching in
for the ball, tearing at it.
Speaker 6 (01:41:35):
The ball came out. But I think that was a
good call. I think he was.
Speaker 3 (01:41:38):
He was down, picked up the first down, and Forest
Hills Eastern recontinues their drive here.
Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
So first and ten on the forty Anderson, excuse me,
Arnold in the empty backfield.
Speaker 1 (01:41:55):
He's gonna run hard.
Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
He's got about six or seven down to about the
thirty two yards line.
Speaker 1 (01:42:01):
Nice came on first down for the Hawks.
Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
Yeah, big collision out there, Brock Morning Star. He was
one of the guys who Tony Sigman said he's got
to step up. And he has the senior five ten
one ninety linebacker. You know when they were when they
run that power power sweep with with Jackson Arnold. There
are some big collisions on almost every one of those runs.
Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
So the spot of the thirty two second down in
two for Arnold, who's gonna hand it? Jordan Schabaz running left,
He's got a first down, he's inside.
Speaker 1 (01:42:32):
The twenty seven yard line. Everybody camp was not.
Speaker 3 (01:42:40):
Guess who again, Cam Thompson, they're coming up and filling
and a big hit. But right now we're seeing the
Hawks offensive line. We've talked about the Whitehall offensive line
taking control. Now it's the the Hawks offensive line really
getting good push on this white Hall front.
Speaker 2 (01:42:59):
Seven first and ten. Hawks ball rests on the white
Hall twenty seven yard line. Clock runs nine minutes, twenty
four seconds to play in regulation. White Hall leads twenty
one to fourteen. Here's Arnold running up the middle. He's
inside the twenty. He's close to a first down at
about the eighteen yard line. Now we get a late
flag coming in and Cam Thompson appears to be pleading
(01:43:21):
his case to the line judge. The result of the
play was a nine yard.
Speaker 1 (01:43:29):
Gain for Arnold.
Speaker 3 (01:43:33):
Yeah, it looks like it's gonna go against the Vikings here,
although there is a discussion going on here between the
two officials.
Speaker 2 (01:43:40):
Whitehall is backing up from the eighteen yard line where
the official is standing with the football.
Speaker 1 (01:43:46):
We're waiting the call from the white hat.
Speaker 4 (01:43:50):
I have a dread balls on the defense.
Speaker 1 (01:43:55):
We're gonna go half your test.
Speaker 2 (01:43:58):
First town, so let them move it to the nine
first in goal for Forest Hills Eastern. The Hawks nine
yards away from a big decision whether to kick an
extra point and tight or maybe Joe Schwander would entertain
the thought of going for two and trying to take
a lead here is there is.
Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Only nine minutes left in regulation.
Speaker 6 (01:44:20):
Yeah, be risky.
Speaker 3 (01:44:22):
Just a few games ago against West Catholic after with
a two point lead, they went for two, didn't get
it and they came back to bite him Wes Catholick
winning with a field goal.
Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
Arnold running right on first now, but he's hitting dropped
right at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (01:44:35):
Blake English makes the tackle to be second down.
Speaker 3 (01:44:39):
Wow, great job by English. Guess what he is. He's
another one of those wrestlers. He's a little guy. He's
only six foot one sixty five that time, great form
tackle there on Jackson Arnold.
Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
So no gain on the play for Stills Eastern, as
they have the whole game, taking their time running to
the sideline to get a play, then getting back into
the huddle. Eight minutes twenty five seconds to play, fourth quarter,
Whitehall clean to a seven point lead. Second goal for
Steals Eastern from the nine, Peters to the left, Mohawk
split out to the right, Arnold gonna run left, Arnold
(01:45:15):
hit and lost the yard. Hunter Osborne was in there,
so it was Brock morning Star. It'll be third down
Hunter Peterson. How about Hunter Peterson had to come in
emergency duty with Hunter with Cole Asmagers getting hurt.
Speaker 1 (01:45:30):
I think he's played really well.
Speaker 6 (01:45:31):
Yeah, that was a great play that time.
Speaker 3 (01:45:33):
He read it from the beginning, came down, just took
Arnold out right at the knees.
Speaker 6 (01:45:37):
Just a perfect tackle. One yard loss, two yard loss maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:45:42):
There, Yeah, the spot of the ten. It's third and
goal from the ten for Forest Hills Eastern. Seven minutes
forty seconds to play in the ballgame, white Hall leading
twenty one to fourteen. Schabaz and Ferrik flank Arnold. They're
gonna give it to Shabaz in the sweep to the left.
He turns the corner at the five and Thompson and
Engl we'll force him out of bounds at about the four.
Speaker 1 (01:46:03):
It'll be fourth down in goal.
Speaker 3 (01:46:05):
Well, at that time he was able to turn the corner.
Thompson had to come up and make the hit. But
this brings up a huge play in the game. Fourth
and goal from the four. I would think they would
go for it. I mean, they could kick a field goal,
but I think they're in this type of game. Joe
Shwander is gonna go for try to tie this thing up.
Speaker 2 (01:46:25):
But Forrest his eastern on his first possession of the game,
was able to convert fourth and goal from the one.
Whitehall was this close to a goal line stand. Here
another chance, fourth and goal for the Hawks from the four.
Whitehall with its backs to the goal line, leading by
seven to late in this contest, and Arnold's gonna roll right.
Arnold's gonna dive and he is. It looks like they're
(01:46:47):
gonna call him down in. He's in a light signal
from the official. It's a touchdown for Jackson Arnold. And
now it looks like Suit is gonna come out to
attempt an extra point.
Speaker 1 (01:46:58):
Charlie Suit seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:47:00):
The placekicker is on the field and Forest Seals Eastern
will try to tie this thing up with six forty.
Speaker 1 (01:47:04):
Four to play.
Speaker 3 (01:47:05):
On that play, Arnold went right. I think it was
a good call. He got into the end zone. But
it was all Arnold that time because Whitehall stuffed it up.
It looked like they were going to stop him initially,
but great second effort gets him into the end zone.
Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
The extra point from Suit is up and good and
we are tied. Whitehall twenty one, Forest Hills Eastern twenty one,
six minutes forty four seconds to go in the fourth
quarter and Tom Kendra, after a season of not many
close games in the elm Sieue Lake Shore Game of
the Week, this is shaping up to be our best
of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:47:40):
What more can you ask for? It's winter go home time. Yeah,
this is great. This is a been really a fantastic game.
Early on, it looked like Forest Seals Eastern was getting
all the breaks. Some wild plays fourteen to nothing, and
then Whitehall twenty one straight points, keyed by the ninety
one yard interception returned by Cam Tom But Forest Hills
(01:48:02):
Eastern great football team. They come back with a huge
drive and yeah, you're right, twenty one twenty one midway
through the fourth quarter, and this is good stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
That Forest Hills Eastern scoring drive started with a minute
and two seconds to go in the third quarter at
the Hawk's own thirty two yard line. They go eleven
plays in sixty eight yards in six minutes and eighteen seconds.
Jackson Arnold with the four yard touchdown run on fourth
and goal, his second touchdown run of the game, both
coming on fourth down plays inside the five yard line.
(01:48:34):
The extra point from Charlie Suit, and we are tied
Whitehall twenty one, Forestials Eastern twenty one, six minutes, forty
four seconds to go game and Suit is set to
kick it deep to Thompson and Hunter Ospoort.
Speaker 6 (01:48:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:48:49):
How about the kickers tonight, both the three for three
on extra points, including the freshman for Whitehall, jud Musk,
you know, being kind of forced into duty, and you
mentioned the different situations with a different snapper, and so
that's obviously key in a game this close.
Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
Both teams are on their backup Wong snappers suits kickoff
is high end over end, and Osbournet gonna take it
at his own.
Speaker 1 (01:49:18):
Eleven yard line. Started on the right, he's gonna turn
to the left.
Speaker 2 (01:49:21):
He gets to the thirty and knock down at about
the thirty one yard line, and that's where Cam Thompson
and company will go to work. And I see fifty
five in black, Ace Thompson coming out on excuse me,
Ace Simonson coming out onto the field to play defensive
line here for the Hawks on the most important possession
of the season so far. Game tied to twenty one
(01:49:44):
in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:49:45):
Just over six minutes to play, and Simonson's job inside
it's going to be to stop Gavin Kraner, who's had
great success running between the tackles, and let's see if
Simonson's able to slow him down at all.
Speaker 2 (01:50:00):
And Crner both in the backfield, and the give will
go to Craner, the second man running outside of the left.
He breaks a couple tackles, he gets out close to
the forty yard line. That looked like it might be
a loss, and Craner turns it into a seven yard game.
Speaker 3 (01:50:13):
That is just huge effort there by Craner, because look
at Jason how huge it is. If you have second
and three, that just everything sets up well for the offense.
Where if they were able to stop him there, maybe
for like a one yard game second and nine, that's
a whole different situation.
Speaker 1 (01:50:31):
Tell you what, Gavin Craner's played a heck of a game.
He's hardly left the field.
Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
This is a guy who hasn't played much the last
two games, dealing with an injury. And here's bets on
second and short hit and drop right at the sticks.
I believe he'll have enough for the first down.
Speaker 1 (01:50:47):
Drew Ferrick makes the sex.
Speaker 3 (01:50:50):
I don't think with that spot, that spot's gonna leave
him just a little bit short one.
Speaker 2 (01:51:01):
So they spotted with the forty one, which is only
a gain of one. So now it is third down
and one. Corday Anderson split out wide to the left,
morning Star is on h back on the right side.
Speaker 1 (01:51:13):
Of the formation. They're gonna run to Thompson with the
quarterback power up the middle.
Speaker 2 (01:51:15):
First down and more a midfield Thompson's side says the
tackle with the forty five, he's inside the forty all
the way to the thirty six yard line, and now
a late flag comes down. Tyson hunting excuse me, Conrajilminsky
makes the touchdown saving tackle. As it stands, it's a
twenty three yard gain, but we'll check the marker.
Speaker 3 (01:51:37):
Wow, what a great run by again, Camden Thompson. I
told you he's a Carson VISs look alike, and he
is putting on a show tonight. But it looks like
they're facing the direction like this is gonna go against Whitehall.
Speaker 2 (01:51:51):
The flag sits at the forestills eastern forty two yard line,
about seventeen yards from the original line of scrimmage, about
six yards behind where Thompson was tackled. The officials are
chatting about it, and we'll get a call here eventually
from our head official. But you're right, this looks like
it's going to go against the Vikings. See if it
ends up as a first down blind side block often
(01:52:18):
fifteen yards because it's part of the file. Were playing
first down, So a blind side block is going to
move it back to the forty two.
Speaker 1 (01:52:27):
That should be good for a first down. Let's see
where they spot this.
Speaker 2 (01:52:32):
Yeah, they are going to move the sticks, So they'll
spot it at the forty two which was the yacht,
which was the line of the game.
Speaker 6 (01:52:40):
Not sure what the chain gang is doing here? Why
why did they?
Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
So they'll spot about the forty two yard line and
they'll wind the clock. Five minutes, sixteen seconds to play
in the game. It is first in ten for Whitehall.
Speaker 6 (01:52:58):
It's like we're gonna have an officials time out.
Speaker 2 (01:53:04):
Tom. I enjoyed your article in the local sports journal
today talking about home field advantage. Did you know that
in LMCU Lake Shore Games of the week this year,
the home team is seven and two. I did not
know that Oak Ridge Week one and Mona Shore's Week five.
Outside of that, it was all home teams winning Forestills Eastern.
Speaker 1 (01:53:21):
Hoping to keep that trend going, but we're tied.
Speaker 3 (01:53:24):
Yeah, Well, let's hope for Whitehall's sake that they're able
to snap that and prove my point in that column,
which home field advantage is overrated.
Speaker 6 (01:53:33):
We kind of talked about that.
Speaker 3 (01:53:34):
Earlier in the year. You and Brett Pakeita kind of
go at it with that topic.
Speaker 2 (01:53:37):
I'm not a believer in home field advantage in high school,
but our LMCU Lake Shore games of the week prove otherwise.
Speaker 1 (01:53:44):
And on first down the give is to Craner running left.
Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
Craner into four stills Eastern territory and spilled down at
the forty six yard line. But it's a twelve yard
game before Arnold makes the tackle.
Speaker 1 (01:53:54):
Whitehall on the move now into Hawk territory.
Speaker 3 (01:53:56):
You mentioned Craner. He's playing his heart out tonight. That's
another thing Tony Sigmund told me last week. They got
beat at Portland forty nine to seven. He said he
had a long talk with his team. They didn't want
to go out in that manner. They wanted to show
themselves for the team they are, and they are really
showing it here tonight and really gutty effort.
Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
Thompson has Bets and Craner in the backfield with him.
They'll go to Craner this time over left tackle. Cranner
inside the forty five to about the forty four.
Speaker 1 (01:54:29):
Ace.
Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
Thompson makes the tackle. Excuse me, a Simonson. After a
three yard game.
Speaker 3 (01:54:36):
Whitehall now in good shape in terms of the clock.
Twenty one to twenty one game here coming up on
four minutes to go. But Whitehall with the ball in
forest Hill's eastern territory. They're content to keep using a
lot of this clock.
Speaker 2 (01:54:54):
Second dount and seven and it's gonna be Thompson running right.
He's in trouble in the backfield and he's gonna be
hit and Connor Helminsky the first to get there. Max
Langdon was in and we do have a penalty flag down.
Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
We'll check that is or maybe it's a it's a
yellow towel.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
It is not a penalty flag. It was a yellow
towel from a Forest's eastern player.
Speaker 6 (01:55:17):
That shouldn't be allowed yellow towels.
Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
That's just a favorable spot that time for Thompson, who
I didn't think got back to the line of scrimmage,
but they give him the lion of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (01:55:27):
It'll be third down and seven.
Speaker 6 (01:55:29):
Obviously a huge play here, likely four down territory, I
would think, unless they are able to get absolutely nothing
on this play.
Speaker 2 (01:55:40):
Clock winding three twelve to play in the game. Third
down for Whitehall and they're gonna give it to Craner.
He's inside the four, he's down to the forty yard line.
It's a three yard game. It's gonna set up fourth
and four. Clock continues to run with three minutes to go.
Speaker 3 (01:55:56):
Wow, this is a tough decision here, Jason Hutton, because
there's less than three minutes to play. You're at the
hot forty yard line. You got Cam Thompson is your quarterback.
He can also drop back and punt.
Speaker 1 (01:56:10):
I don't know, Wow, Thomas is not a tough decision.
Speaker 2 (01:56:13):
You're gonna go for it, and you're gonna put it
in the hands of number twelve. I mean, there's just
nothing else you can do here. Give the ball to
Cam Thompson to let him do what he does. Morning
Stars at h on the left, Hamilton, excuse me, Whitehall
lined up to.
Speaker 1 (01:56:25):
Go for it, and they're gonna play action.
Speaker 2 (01:56:27):
Thompson started to roll right now, he turns back and
rolls left.
Speaker 1 (01:56:31):
Thompson's gonna stop at the forties dives he got it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:39):
They will give him the first down. They mark him
at the thirty five. He needed the thirty six. And
that's just twelve doing twelve stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:56:48):
You said it, twelve doing twelve stuff because there was
there was nothing there. It was well defended, nowhere to
throw the ball, reversed his field and it was all
Camden Thompson.
Speaker 1 (01:56:58):
We're gonna have a time out here.
Speaker 2 (01:57:00):
I think Forestalls Eastern's going to take one to stop
the clock with two thirteen to go. So Whitehall, excuse me,
it's an injury time out. There's a Forestles Eastern player down.
It's a thirty one yard line. I want to keep
it right here and I want to talk about this.
And you look at Thompson on that play. Tom he
started a role right, it wasn't there. He stopped and
rolled left. He was still well behind the line. Scrimmage
could have thrown downfield.
Speaker 1 (01:57:20):
But you could just see him, see you could see
his vision at work.
Speaker 2 (01:57:24):
He cut up field and he hit that speedburst and
he got the yard that he needed.
Speaker 1 (01:57:29):
Incredible play, I thought by Thompson.
Speaker 3 (01:57:31):
Oh and that was all, you know, just a senior
wanting to do it for his team, just the way
he always has in basketball and football. But you know,
we wondered when Kyle Stratton left. You know, he was
a three year starter quarterback here for Whitehall. You know,
would Thompson be able to step into that role. And he's,
as the year is worn on, gotten better and better
(01:57:53):
at it. And now you know he's playing with so
much confidence. On a fourth down play like that, he
just nose has a nose for the first down yardage
and he got it by just half a yard.
Speaker 1 (01:58:05):
You talked about Carson VISs.
Speaker 2 (01:58:06):
Thompson plays a lot like carsonvis and the comparisons go
well beyond they're playing quarterback. But this is South Christian
Sailors leading Holland Christian tonight fourteen to nothing. They had
a thirty minute delay at halftime because the lights at FALCONSTATEIU.
Speaker 1 (01:58:18):
South Christian doesn't have.
Speaker 2 (01:58:19):
Their own field. They play at East Getwood. The lights
went out, so we had that. Remember at Hackley Stadium
in week five, That's right. So they're just underway in
the second half, they're fourteen nothing South Christian.
Speaker 1 (01:58:29):
What else you got?
Speaker 6 (01:58:30):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:58:30):
Just looking here? Mona Shores twenty one to nothing. And
how about Byron Center. That game was three to three.
It's now Byron Center thirty one, Northview three. So it
looks like we're gonna have that Mona Shores Byron Center
rematch in the district final next week. Big Rapids twenty
Luddington fourteen. A great game at Noego. Noego leads Montague
(01:58:52):
last score fourteen to nothing. In the North, the Skeigan
forty nine to nothing over evert and let me see
what else here? West Catholic twenty five fourteen over oak Ridge.
Speaker 2 (01:59:04):
Score it updates presented by Rapid Radios. Go to rapid
Radios dot com to learn more. That's Rapid Radios dot Com.
On first down, Whitehall runs it up the middle for
a couple Gavin Craner to the thirty three yard line.
The injured Forest Seals Eastern player was senior outside linebacker
Nolan Hostetler, who walked off the field under his own power.
(01:59:26):
He's now being treated on the Forest Seals Eastern sideline.
Senior number eight Nixon Bosma has replaced him at outside linebacker.
Second down for Whitehall, Thom's gonna run up the middle.
He's inside the thirty reaching for the twenty six. I
think he's gonna be just shy of a first down.
We have ninety seconds left in regulation.
Speaker 3 (01:59:43):
Yeah, Whitehall, you know a freshman kicker, jud Musk. He's
been great on extra points, but right now this is
a long field goal.
Speaker 6 (01:59:51):
They got a long way to go here.
Speaker 3 (01:59:54):
Obviously they got to pick up the first down, but
they got to start thinking of how they're gonna get.
Speaker 6 (01:59:59):
Final pull here or else we're going into overtime.
Speaker 2 (02:00:02):
Both teams still have two timeouts remaining. The give is
to Bets running ready, he's got a first down of more.
He's inside the twenty to the sixteen yard line. The
senior Nate Bets gets ten yards. Whitehall moves the chains.
One minute five seconds to play in regulation, they are
at the sixteen yard line and they still have two timeouts.
Speaker 3 (02:00:19):
Yeah, I'm not sure if jud must range here. You know,
right now we're looking at about a thirty three yard
field goal. I think they'd like to get ten more
yards here.
Speaker 2 (02:00:28):
Thompson and the gun. On first down, he's gonna give
it to Bets running right. Bets cuts it up and
he gets a yard maybe two, but the clock will
continue in Whitehall will have to spend a time out
to stop it.
Speaker 1 (02:00:37):
Here with just forty seven seconds left.
Speaker 6 (02:00:40):
That's their first time out, Jay, is that correct?
Speaker 1 (02:00:43):
It's their second. They'll get one remaining.
Speaker 2 (02:00:45):
They'll have one remaining, so forty seven seconds to go,
they're gonna spot them at the fourteen yard line. Tom,
let's talk about this second down at eight forty seven
seconds in one timeout, so you canna use the sidelines here.
You can use is your one time out. I'm not
sure you want a freshman trying a thirty two yard
field goal. I don't think that's in the cards at
(02:01:06):
this point. You're gonna need to be inside the ten,
I think before we get to talking about that. But again,
I think you can go back and get to give
Cam Thompson a chance to make a play here.
Speaker 3 (02:01:14):
Yeah, I just think this is Cam Thompson time. I mean,
he's done it all year long in crucial situations and
here here they are. You know, but they're at the
fourteen yard line. So you say they need to be
inside the ten, so you can run Thompson here, you know,
fake it to Craner. You can run Thompson up the middle,
even if he doesn't get in the end zone. I
(02:01:34):
think if he gets inside the ten, you can run
another play, use your final timeout, and I think you
try for that field goal to win the game. Maybe
you even try to center the ball here a little bit.
We'll see what We'll see what Tony Sigmann calls.
Speaker 1 (02:01:50):
So we're set to resume.
Speaker 2 (02:01:51):
Corday Anderson split to the right, Blake English to the left,
Betts and Craner flank Thompson to the backfield morning Stars
the H on the right, and then gave his go
to Craner right up the middle, and he's down to
about the eleven. Maybe white Hell's gonna have to go
quickly here. Noah Bartley made the tackle. It's third down
and five. The clock is running at thirty four seconds
(02:02:12):
to play in regulation.
Speaker 1 (02:02:13):
No huddle for Whitehall.
Speaker 2 (02:02:14):
They go to the line, same formation with Bets and
Craner next to Thompson. Morning Star the H back on
the left. Thompson fakes the handoff. Now he wants to run.
He's rolling to the right. Thompson to the outside of
the ten, stops and goes out of bounds at about
the eight. It's fourth down, fifteen seconds left, and it's
(02:02:35):
fourth down at the eight. It'd be about a twenty
five twenty six yard field goal. The ball is on
the right hash and you have a freshman kicker.
Speaker 6 (02:02:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:02:44):
I just think you got to try the field goal here.
I think it's not that much farther than an extra point.
He's been jud Muskus three for three on extra points
in this game. And of course Tony Sigmund knows better
than I do. It's like he is good, go for it.
Speaker 1 (02:03:00):
Here, he's gonna go with his senior Cam Thompson.
Speaker 2 (02:03:03):
Here. It's fourth and two at most, probably three plays
left in regulation. White House still has the time out.
Fourth and two in the eighth game, tied at twenty one, Craner's.
Speaker 1 (02:03:12):
Got a first down at the five craters into the
end zone, touchdown, White Hole with eleven seconds to play.
Speaker 2 (02:03:19):
We didn't know if Gavin Craner was even gonna play,
and now he's put his team ahead with eleven seconds left.
Speaker 3 (02:03:24):
Well, look at the celebration on the white Hall sidelines.
What a I think everyone in the stadium was expecting
Cam Thompson to do something with the ball that time. Instead,
it's Gavin Kraner, the All state wrestler, running to the
left side behind Big Jack Ambrose, the left guard, Connor Nash,
the left tackle over there, a nice surge and then
(02:03:49):
Gavin Craner does the rest.
Speaker 1 (02:03:51):
What was that?
Speaker 6 (02:03:51):
A seven yard touchdown run?
Speaker 2 (02:03:53):
Eight yard touchdo run for Craner. Now an extra point from.
Speaker 1 (02:03:56):
Musk Thompson with the hole to kick his up and
it is good. Our score.
Speaker 2 (02:04:02):
Whitehall twenty eight, Forest Hills Eastern twenty one, eleven seconds
to play, in the game, boy, and you can't help
but think about the tough losses Forest Feels Easterns had
last few years. I was here last year in the
district final when they lost to South Christian twenty two
to fourteen, a late drive from the Sailors. How about
(02:04:22):
just three weeks ago in this field when they lose
a heartbreaker in the last play to West Catholic in
the OK White Conference championship game. And now they're facing
a seven point deficit with eleven seconds to go.
Speaker 3 (02:04:33):
Yeah, and this might this is gonna be the biggest
if it holds here, the biggest heartbreaker of all, especially
with the way they had this game fourteen to nothing
and then really it looked like they were gonna maybe
put the game away on that final drive of the
second quarter, only to have a Cam Thompson ninety one
yard interception return completely turn this thing around. But wow,
(02:04:56):
what a football game we've had here. I believe you
got to be looking. That's some kind of squib kick
here to prevent a big return.
Speaker 2 (02:05:02):
Well, I wanted to ask you that you know Scott
Van Pelt affectionately named it the pitchy Pitchy Woo woo.
Speaker 1 (02:05:08):
If I'm Forstall's Eastern.
Speaker 2 (02:05:09):
I'm gonna try to score on this kick return, because
what are your chances of getting the football and going
eighty yards in one play when you're just not a
passing team without Brendon Thompson.
Speaker 3 (02:05:19):
Yeah, so you're you're thinking it's gonna be the band
is on the field, the band on the field type
play here, which might be their best chance of scoring
at this point.
Speaker 2 (02:05:28):
Now, Forces Eastern does love to run the starbursts, and
they have all four back deep here. But I agree,
I don't think this will be a deep kick.
Speaker 1 (02:05:34):
In fact, Cam Thompson's gonna kick it off.
Speaker 2 (02:05:36):
This isn't even Judd Musk the freshman, So I can't
see this thing going very deep because Forestalls Eastern loves
to run that starburst deep and it's Thompson with the squib,
and we're gonna have an off sides on Whitehall, so
they're gonna to back up five yards and do it again.
Speaker 3 (02:05:51):
You know what was Cam Thompson was trying to do there,
kick it straight ahead.
Speaker 6 (02:05:54):
And recover it himself.
Speaker 3 (02:05:55):
It's exactly, and he was almost in a position to
do that because he's done everything else tonight that would
have been a fitting ending to this game.
Speaker 2 (02:06:06):
So they'll back them up five yards and now Thompson
will have to kick it again from the thirty five
yard line. The four back deep for Eastern Jackson Arnold,
Max Ferrick, David Mohawk and Jordan Shabbasz.
Speaker 1 (02:06:18):
They can all run really fast.
Speaker 2 (02:06:23):
But I think there's gonna be some kind of pitching
going on here and for Stals, Eatern's just going to
try to make a play on this kick return. Of course,
you can always do it on a quick out or
you know you can do it, you can do it
on a play from the line scrimmage as well. Eleven
seconds to play, Whitehall twenty eight for Stals Eastern twenty one.
Cam Thompson is kicking off for the Vikings. My guess
(02:06:44):
is he'll drive the team back to the White Lake
area tonight after the game as well. Thompson this time
with a high short kick taking it to forty one
by Eastern and dropped it to forty six. So eight
seconds to play, maybe maybe two plays for Eastern here
(02:07:05):
twenty one Whitehall by seven.
Speaker 6 (02:07:08):
Yeah. Now the strategy for.
Speaker 3 (02:07:12):
Keith Stratton's defense here is a I'm just thinking about
the Bears game can't help, but think about the Washington
Commanders and the Bears.
Speaker 6 (02:07:22):
You don't want to let anyone get behind you at
any time.
Speaker 3 (02:07:25):
But I like Whitehall's chances having a guy like six
' five Cam Thompson back deep.
Speaker 2 (02:07:30):
No Brendan Thompson tonight for for steals Eastern. He could
throw the ball this far. I mean, he's got an
absolute cannon, but I don't think Jackson Arnold can throw
it this far.
Speaker 1 (02:07:37):
This is gonna be some kind of hooking ladder.
Speaker 2 (02:07:40):
The ball's gonna be pitched here, Drew Ferrik in motion,
Arnold's gonna roll left six seconds.
Speaker 1 (02:07:46):
Arnold's gonna throw short.
Speaker 2 (02:07:47):
Complete to Mohawk, who goes out of bounds at the
forty one yard line.
Speaker 1 (02:07:52):
So it's an eleven yard game. And there'll be one
more play that.
Speaker 2 (02:07:55):
Takes six seconds, so two seconds to play force Seels.
Speaker 1 (02:07:59):
Eastern still has few timeouts.
Speaker 2 (02:08:00):
Whitehall has won the balls at the Viking forty one
and Joe Schwander's gonna call time out here.
Speaker 3 (02:08:08):
That was a very good play Jason by the Hawks,
A good job, a quick out getting eleven yards. Yeah,
it's a big difference here at the forty one yard line.
I gotta believe, you know, with a little momentum stepping
into it, he could get that ball into or at
least near the end zone.
Speaker 2 (02:08:27):
I still think their best chance he is a hooking
ladder or some kind of some kind of gadget play.
Brendan Thompson has not played tonight. We haven't even seen
him on the sidelines. The normal starting quarterback for the Hawks,
the future Cal State Bakersfield baseball player with a huge arm, Jackson.
(02:08:47):
Arnold's gone the distance at quarterback. Arnold's an outstanding senior
who's ran the football very well.
Speaker 1 (02:08:52):
Tonight saw him play a lot of quarterback last year.
Speaker 2 (02:08:56):
Brendon Thompson didn't play football a year ago after starting
at quarterback for the Hawks two years ago as sophomore.
Speaker 3 (02:09:02):
Yeah, that was the matchup we talked about going into
this game, the quarterback matchup, Thompson versus Thompson. Jackson Arnold
has played great in Brendan Thompson's absence, But that's been
an aspect of the game that the Hawks didn't have
that passing game.
Speaker 1 (02:09:19):
Two seconds to play. Here we go, final play of
the game.
Speaker 2 (02:09:23):
Four wide receivers trips to the wide side right Arnold's
in an empty set, Whitehall will only rush three. Arnold's
gonna throw it as far as he can. It's a
high wobbler, well short and cam Thompson intercepts it. Cam Thompson,
why nots Number twelve for Whitehall has just sent for
SILS Eastern home and the Vikings will march on to
(02:09:46):
the district final on the back of an incredible performance
from Number twelve. Whitehall beats for SILS Eastern tonight twenty
eight to twenty one the final in an incredible football game.
Speaker 3 (02:09:56):
Jason, I'm gonna call that the biggest win in Tony
Sigmund's 's here at Whitehall, just given everything that this
team overcame losing their two senior captains in Ryan Goodrich
and Parker Mott, and then playing last week without Gavin Craner.
They played tonight without Abram Stout and all the bad
(02:10:16):
breaks that went against him in that first half to
fight through it, and how about Cam Thompson and Gavin Craner,
two seniors coming up huge tonight twenty eight to twenty one,
A huge come from behind win for Whitehall.
Speaker 2 (02:10:33):
What a game, absolutely incredible. Whitehall wins it twenty eight
twenty one. Stay tuned, we got the Shaefer Schwartz PLCs
game show coming up right after this. This is the
Drive to Ford Field presented by Vanderlin's Home Improvement on
one to seven, mus the Moose, Jason and Tom Kendrick
back at Hawk Stadium where we just witnessed an incredible
(02:10:55):
state tournament game. Whitehall defeats Forrest's Eastern twenty eight twenty
one and this is the Shae for Schwartz peeld see
postgame show. If you've been injured in an auto lacks
to make sure you have David Schaeffer on your side.
David Schaeffer born and raised in Miskegon County and proud
to be a supporter of high school football. Let's take
a look at the final drive summary Forstles Eastern gets
on the board first, seven point fifty seven to play
(02:11:16):
first quarter. Excuse me four oh three to play first quarter?
Jackson Arnold a one yard touchdown run on fourth and
goal seven and nothing. They added to the lead when
Drew Ferrick recovered his older brother Max Ferrick's fumble and
runs seventeen yards into the en zone with eight and
a half to play in the second quarter, Forstles Eastern
led fourteen to nothing, but on the final play of
the first half, Cam Thompson intercepted the Forests Eastern pass
(02:11:36):
when he turned it ninety one yards for a touchdown
to take our halftime score fourteen to seven. The Vikings
got the football to start the second half, and with
eight twenty seven to play in the third quarter, Thompson
scores on a twenty nine yard touchdown run to tie
the game at fourteen. They'd go ahead twenty one to
fourteen on an eight bets one yard touchdown run one
o two left in the third Jackson Arnold would retie
the game with six forty four left in regulation on
a four yard touchdown run a fourth and goal, and
(02:11:58):
Whitehall wins it on a Gavin Craner eight yard touchdown
run on fourth and two to make our final score
twenty eight to twenty one. The final scoring summary brought

Speaker 3 (02:12:32):
Well Whitehall had a lot of great long scoring drives.
Just very impressed with the way the offensive line played tonight,
the way Gavin Craner played, but especially you KNOWL cam
Thompson orchestrating everything. But in a game like this, it's
got to be the game winning drive. Right there at
the end, after Forest Hills Eastern had come back and
went sixty eight yards to tie it at twenty one.
(02:12:55):
Midway through the fourth quarter, Whitehall gets the ball back
and I don't have the number of plays, probably that
over there as well, but eleven plays, eleven plays, and
how many yards did they go there?
Speaker 1 (02:13:08):
They went sixty eight yards.
Speaker 3 (02:13:09):
Eleven plays, sixty eight yards mostly on the ground. We
remember that huge fourth down conversion that cam Thompson came
up with, scrambling just getting it by half a yard.
But then it came down to fourth down, fourth and
goal from the eight. You know, they could have kicked
the field goal, but instead they go with the Gavin Kraner.
(02:13:30):
Everyone was looking at Cam Thompson. Instead, Tony Sickman goes
with the other senior, Gavin Craner, right up the middle
through the left side. Great blocking by Jack Ambrose, Connor, Nash, Jamison,
Jeffrey and Craner eight yards into the end zone with
eleven seconds to go.
Speaker 6 (02:13:47):
That's got to be our drive of the game, Jay,
without question.

to two hundred and sixty eight.
Speaker 1 (02:14:07):
The Vikings rush for two seventy five.
Speaker 2 (02:14:09):
The Hawks had two hundred and twenty two yards on
the ground individually in this game. Gavin Craner the huge
game twenty two carries one hundred and thirty nine yards
and a touchdown. Cam Thompson fourteen carries one hundred and
fourteen yards and a touchdown. Thompson perfect through the air
three for three for thirty nine yards. Cordy Anderson caught
two passes for twenty four. Brock morning Star caught one
(02:14:30):
for fifteen for the Hawks. Jackson Arnold go in the
distance at quarterback in place of Brendon Thompson, who did
not play tonight. Arnold twenty six carries one hundred and
forty three yards two touchdowns. Max Ferrick twelve carries forty
nine yards. Arnold three for six through the air for
forty six yards through two interceptions. Noel Bartley with a
thirty four yard reception on the after the block punt.
(02:14:52):
David Mohawk won catch for eleven and Kayas Peters one
catch for one yards. Still to come on the Schaeffer

We'll check the rapid radio scoreboard update.
Speaker 2 (02:15:34):
In just a moment, but first Tom kendra Our Bluewater
Kebin try and design player of the game.
Speaker 3 (02:15:39):
Well, I'm sure if you talk to Tony Sigmund, he's
gonna have all sorts of candidates for this, because I
was just looking at the number of seniors that came
up and played great games tonight for Whitehall. I'm looking
at Nate Bets, Gavin Kraner, Blake English, how about number
seventy one Ian Hanson, A great game on the defensive line.
You could just go on and on Morning Star, but
(02:16:02):
really it comes down to number twelve, six ' five
Cam Thompson just a difference maker. I mean you look
at his offensive stats fourteen rushes, one hundred and fourteen yards,
and he also perfect through the air three of three.
Didn't throw it much, but when he needed to he
completed them three of three for.
Speaker 6 (02:16:21):
Thirty nine yards.
Speaker 3 (02:16:22):
But then he also throws in really the game that
the play that turned this whole game around. Right at
the end of the first half, Whitehall down fourteen to nothing.
Cam Thompson on the final play of the half picks
it off, goes ninety one yards to completely turn this
game around and put it all together. You gotta name
(02:16:43):
cam Thompson Ara Blue Water Cabinet, Try and Design player
of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:16:47):
Let's hear how that interception returned for touchdown sounded twenty
one seconds to play. Arnold in the shotgun with Ferrik
to his left, Arnold's gonna pass pump fake.
Speaker 1 (02:16:55):
Now he's looking deep going and it's gonna be intercepted.
Speaker 2 (02:16:58):
Cam Thompson with a pick of the nine brought Johnson
back to the twenty. Now Thompson is going to cut
across the field to the thirty. Cam Thompson to midfield.
Cam Thompson was one man to beat it to thirty five.
Cam Thompson's gonna bring it all the way back, all
the way no flags on the field.
Speaker 1 (02:17:15):
It's a ninety one yard.
Speaker 2 (02:17:17):
Interception return for Camden Thompson and Whitehall is back in
the game.
Speaker 1 (02:17:24):
That is the final play of the first half.
Speaker 2 (02:17:27):
Oh Night Bluewater Cabinetry and Design, the Lakeshores trusted kitchen
and bath provider is proud to be a supporter of
high school football. And if that's not the play of
the game, Tom Kendrid, then what is.
Speaker 3 (02:17:38):
Well, it was just such a unique play and this
is actually a was a great thing for Forest Hills Eastern.
That happened right at the beginning of a second quarter.
This was after a great defensive stand by Whitehall forcing
the Hawks to punt from their own end.
Speaker 6 (02:17:55):
Zone and a great rush.
Speaker 3 (02:17:57):
Whitehall actually blocked the punt in the end zone and
we're looking trying to see if Whitehall can recover it
for a touchdown. Instead, Jackson Arnold picks up the ball
and throws it down the field, completing a pass I
can't remember about thirty yards down the field, and instead
of a Whitehall touchdown, it's a first down for Forrest
(02:18:21):
Hills Eastern. I just thought it was so unique. I've
never seen that at any level of football. So for me,
the uniqueness of it will make that our Mister Bees
Pancake House Play of the Game.
Speaker 2 (02:18:32):
Mister Bee's Pancake House is celebrating fifty years of serving
the Miskegon area. I could go for some mister Bees
pancakes right about now. All right, Tom, how about one
more look at the rapid radio score it update.
Speaker 3 (02:18:45):
Yeah, and it looks like we don't have a final
score from that game, but it looks like Whitehall is
going to be going up to Big Rapids based on
the last score we had it was twenty eight to
twenty one Big Rapids over Luddington.
Speaker 6 (02:18:58):
Mona Shores.
Speaker 3 (02:18:58):
The defense has been so impressive, just shutting down Traverse
City West twenty eight to nothing in that game. Last
score we had was Byron Center thirty eight to seventeen.
So it looks like we're gonna see a rematch Jay
and it will likely be our game of the week
Byron Center at Mona Shores, a good effort by oak Ridge,
but West Catholic pulls away thirty two to fourteen the
(02:19:20):
final There another good back and forth game, but it
looks like Nwago is gonna hold off Montague. Thirty seventeen
was the last score. Not much of a game at
North Muskegan fifty six to seven over evert a couple
of interesting scores. Granville beats Rockford twenty four to fourteen.
Turns the table on the Rams after the regular season loss,
(02:19:42):
and it was a great It's still a great game
going on with Hudsonville and he's kent what last score
we had was Hudsonville. Why appoint twenty three to twenty two.
Speaker 1 (02:19:52):
I'll tell you what we know. The White Hell's going
to Lunnington.
Speaker 2 (02:19:54):
Lennington did beat Big Rapids night twenty eight twenty one
in the final, so the Vikings will play in the
district championship game.
Speaker 6 (02:20:01):
So Big Rapids beat Luddington.
Speaker 1 (02:20:05):
At Big Rapids.
Speaker 2 (02:20:09):
Next week, and we know we're going to Sailor Stadium
Mona Shores and Byron Center. It's the rematch from week four.
It was an unbelievable game in Week four at Sailor Stadium,
Mona Shors wins by two extra points. I expect something
similar next week when we're there.
Speaker 3 (02:20:21):
Oh, there are two teams that are playing great football.
I mean north View a great team thirty eight seventeen.
And how about the defense of Mona Shors. To me,
that's the biggest improvement in the Mona Shors football program.
Speaker 6 (02:20:33):
They used to have to outscore people.
Speaker 3 (02:20:35):
Now they've got David check in a great defense, they
can shut teams down.
Speaker 6 (02:20:39):
I think that's going to be a classic.
Speaker 3 (02:20:40):
We didn't have great games in the regular season, but
we're off to a great start.
Speaker 6 (02:20:44):
Here in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (02:20:45):
Maybe that's what we were doing. We were just saving
it up for the playoffs. Great job tonight, Tom. Special
thanks to host athletic director here at for SOS Eastern,
Robert Hull, for taking great care of us. Special thanks
