Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for Chilicothie High School basketball action on the
Home of the Cabs fourteen ninety wb e X powered
by Where Funeral Home, a Dina Health System and Heller
Funeral Home, Hell and.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Welcome to Miami Trace High School. I'm Shane Holmes alongside
Greg Facom. When you were listening to ChIL Cofee Boys
basketball here on WBX fourteen ninety on your AM side,
ninety two point seven on the FM side, and of
course worldwide on the ihearted Greg. I know we had
to split up the other night to get some some
coverage around the area. Appreciate all the flexibility, all the help.

(00:40):
There's certainly good to be back with you. I know
you and I have been really high on the on
the progression of this chilicothe boys team here and that
kind of paid off the other night as they finally
got to put the home uniforms on and play in
front of what was just an incredible atmosphere. They are
to get to enjoy that one diamond. They're right back
on the road. Certainly a tough tests here tonight with
Miami Tree and Miami Trace four and zero. And you

(01:02):
know we talked a lot about and I saw coach
spar at the comments and you on the scoreboard. They finished.
You know, they weren't able to finish a couple of
games they were leading. So tonight it's on the road,
undefeated Miami Trace. Some mismatches probably for the Calves coming up.
We'll talk about that. So this will be a tough one,
but I think they've continued to grow through those first

(01:23):
four or five of those first five games, and hopefully
we'll pay off. It'll be a tough one tonight, but
I think they can play with this Miami Trace. There's
certainly as athletic as the Panthers are. I think. Well,
let's talk about that mindset a little bit. You go
back a year ago in the fac play, Miami Trace
winds the outright tight on at nine and one and
then Courthouse at eight and two. That Hills Row team
the other night has a lot back. They were six

(01:44):
and four, Jackson five and five, Chila Coffee all the
way down too, and a so chilic coffee already also
a one and oh start. That's got to feel good
for the Calves and Coach Beard to build a little
momentum there. You kind of mindset from last year to
this year, wouldn't you say that half to kind of
give them a little boost the confidence. Yeah, so, I mean,
and I think they had some confidence. I think winning

(02:05):
that game the other night had to help their confidences,
as we said, to finish a game. But you know,
Cox played last year as a freshman. Him and played
last year as a freshman. One played, you know, of
course as a junior, a little bit of experience. Stone
King played as a sophomore. All these guys are back,
but no other seniors other than one. You says them,
but we will talk about that. Dania's not available. So

(02:28):
on the one hand, you say, hey, ChIL Cudn's got
almost everybody back a team that was two and eight
in conference play. But already any of those kids are
our seniors, so they're still growing. Well, let's talk about
tonight's opponent a little bit. They come in at four
and oh and they beat Uniote in the non league
Western Brown Logan ELM and then they started FAC play
one one and oh as well with the win over Jackson.

(02:49):
They're led by their outstanding post present and Adam Guthrie,
the six seven junior we talked so much in football
and Oho went through the injury, worked his way back,
got cleared with about a week or two left in
the preseason, and he's been obviously a big presence on
the middle, averaging up around twenty points a game. But
they're they're far more than him. They're a really athletic
bunch around the perimeter. People will listen to us in football,

(03:12):
will recognize names like Robinette and Failures and Baker and
so forth. They even got a freshman point guard in
the Bauers kids. So what kind of challenge do you feel?
Like Guthrie and then the athletic supporting cast is going
to present Youlcot the year tonight. Well, well, you know
it'll come back to bite me and I don't want
to do an announcer's curse. But they're perimeter people are
gone from last year. So I say that, and probably

(03:35):
they'll shoot nine now the first ten threes and make him.
But most of the perimeter people did not play last year.
Silures did play, but he's more of a slicer, you know,
a type of offensive player. So you know, I think
they'll try to drive audition. I think it comes down
to who's going to guard Guthrie. He's six foot seven
systems not playing tonight, not dressed, So how are you

(03:56):
going to handle that? Will Pat play man de man? Well,
they try to do something to help out on Guthrie,
but I think it comes down tonight. I would make
them beat me from outside and make them back to
haunt because most of these kids are starting. Did not
really they played some, but again I don't they weren't
their outside shooters from last year that they had, So

(04:17):
we'll see and looking at their schedule and again make
them back to bite me. Jackson struggling a little bit,
Logan helmets struggled in New yearly going. So some of
their wins when you when you look at it, I'm
not sure who they played, but they are four and
oh and we know they're athletic. So I think the
key is how in the world we're going to match
up with the six seven kid inside. You know, maybe

(04:37):
he gets twenty five, so if we can hold the
rest of them down. Well, you look at the Chilkati
side and you think about how we were talking about
getting the defense to create some easy offensive opportunities. And
I thought when Chilo Cootti grabbed control of the game
in the third early fourth quarter, the other night, it
was it was a little bit of just that. It
was great effort on the offensive lass, but it was
also some defense poking the ball way obviously highlighted by

(05:01):
Cox and the two hand dunk on the other end.
They got the crowd into it, but they really did.
And then a big star in my notes too, I
believe unofficially they were eight of nine from the free
throw line in the fourth quarter. So those are some
of the details you were talking about earlier in the
year that you wanted to see become a little bit
more consistent, and they did, and that helped them finish
out the other night. Yeah. The other thing, and Shane's

(05:21):
been around the game a long time. Something else. I
don't know how Padd'll play it. They had a fresh
from guard point guard. Looks like he handles the ball
really well. I would assume we'll try to pressure him.
And the other thing is Guthrie. Now he's lost some weight,
but he's an offensive lineman, and maybe we'll try to
push the tempo up and beat him down the floor.
That matchup these system's not in there where you know

(05:42):
it's going to be Hamming or somebody else matched up
with them. So there's some intriguing things there. If it's
a slowdown game and they pounded inside Miami Trace, if
we can get out and becomes a ninety foot game, Psilicopy.
Well to that point, Miami Trace averaging right around sixty
points a game, but they do it very efficiently, only
giving up forty four points. On the defensive end, you're

(06:03):
beating by people by almost sixteen points a game in
this four oh start. The Chilicothee side, they come in
scoring fifty four nights, giving up fifty one point two,
and so they're on the plus side even though they're
under five hundred dear overall. But again, that fifty one
points a game defensively, that's pretty impressive when you consider
who Chili Coothie is played to this point. Agree they
have and so we'll see tonight. There you've you've talked

(06:27):
a lot about it. You were telling me about the
other night. Uh, the fine guard for Hillsboro Shave Davis
and Jan Miller and the job he did on the
young man who's probably going to be an Ohio player
from Warren Starts with Mattelman. Uh, he did a great
even though he got points late. So one's able to
It starts with one putting pressure. And you've seen this too.

(06:49):
If you can't match up with a guy six seven inside,
you don't want him to throw it insight. So what
do you have to do? You hat a pressure of
the point, pressure of the ball. I think that comes
down to one putting some pressure on their guard and
not getting in confe trouble. And actually we can't afford
to get int a whole lot of control. I agree
with that. And then the last question I had four
year in the pre game before we take our first

(07:10):
time out. You know, Miami Trace is a team led
by coach Ben Ackley, who just got US two hundred
to win here a couple of weeks back. So congratulations
to him. He's done his tremendous job here Miami Trace.
You know, but they talked about how, you know, they
would like to play a little bit more. Man haven't
been real good at any one defense, so what they've
ended up doing is changing their defenses. You'll see them
play a little three to two, a little two three,

(07:30):
kind of almost a twenty three match, almost looks like
a one to three one at times. What kind of
challenge you think Chilicoffie will face and facing. They haven't
really faced a ton of zone this year, so that
could be a big challenge. Looks like in past years
and again with some of these kids. Although they're like
I said, they're very athletic, and you got Guthrie now,
uh I think they'll try to trap out of the
zone and they'll try to trap the basketball. You've got Guthrie.

(07:54):
If you're trappman can stand under the bucket. Somebody breaks away,
he's there. But uh I think one other challenges is
to not turn it over. And if Mima Trace is
in a zone they tried, you got to recognize where
they're going to trap. That'll be a key tonight to
stay in your offense not get out of control because
of trapping it. Well, certainly it should be a lot
of fun. Stay with us here. We're going to take
a quick time out. We'll be back the starting line.

Welcome back Miami Trace High School. Shane Holmes, Greg Big,
I'm with you here on fourteen ninety WBX from the
AMSID ninety two seven FM and of course worldwide on
the iHeart Radio. And appreciate everybody being with us as
it should be. In for a really good one A
pair of one and Ozero teams here in the FAC,
Chilicothe makes the road trip over here to take on

(10:10):
good offending FAC champs in Miami Trace. Looking at the
starting lineup tonight. First for your Chilicothe Cavaliers, Coach Beard
will run his normal senior point guard one Miller out
to run the show tonight. He's joined in the back
court by six three sophomore Caden Cox as well as
six to two junior Cooper stone King been at the

(10:32):
forwards and uh they'll have a big, big challenge tonight
banging around with Guthrie and so forth. As we talked
about in the opening segment, he got six to four
sophomore Andrew Hammond and six to three senior Cam Badger
for the Panthers. Uh. Then the back court, freshman point
guard Gage Bowers, I chance to see him quite a
few times, does a nice job running the show. He's

(10:53):
joined in the back court there by a very athletic
six to one sophomore Julian Baker forwards, a pair of
six three Sky Sowers and Trey Robinette, and then of
course in the middle the big six seven junior Adam Guthrie.
But again, if you're just tuning in, UH, Daniel Sisson,

(11:14):
who normally starts in the pivot, gives you that buddy
six y three maybe, but certainly out of the football
field strength inside, and he's not available, not available to
the team for a while, so it'll take somebody else.
You's going to have to step up and help out.
With the death, Cox and Sowers will jump it up,
Miami Trace will control the tip and the Panthers will
have the first possession of the evening. Slowers comes off

(11:36):
the high ball screen layup. No good out comes Miller
of Chili Coathy with the rebound, he kicks across court
to Cooper stone King. He'll also back out to Miller
and again as we expected, Miami Tracey in his zone
and Chilikafie will back it back out and show some patients.
Coach Beard allers out what he wants. They swing it
side to side, playing a little catch with Miller, stone

(11:57):
King and Cox. Now with Cox left pointer, he'll try
a three ball, no good. He follows his own shot
and gets it back, pitches it behind him to Cooper
stone Can. He throws it out standing passed down load
of Cam Badger who lays it in chili coffee on
the board. First two nothing, we're just forty five seconds.
Then good offensive rebound, nice look by Cock. Freshman point

(12:19):
guard Gage Bowers bringing up against von Miller. Panthers will
swing it all the way to left wing. Sires came
open on the stream and got bumped a little bit.
They end up thrown it away out comes stone King
on the turnover. He goes in then lay up too short,
followed up a Badger and I believe Badger got that
one as well, Cam Badger and nice effort on the
offensive lass four nothing in chili contain but he's Guthrie

(12:45):
is a little bit of a release five in the back.
Now he gets the way to Baker, who slices down
the middle and lays it in just way too easy.
Julian Baker gets the panthers on the board. Touch Chila
Cothie's lead the board too well. He got lost on
a pick and Baker able us to ahead an unkod
that's the layup. Miami Tray is really big in the zone.
Presents quite a challenge here and Chilicothy throws it away.

(13:07):
How comes Miami Trace. It's if it looks like Sallure's
all the way down the middle. He catches and lays
it in. That's that's off the turn over. That light
ball turn over side at Ford. Yeah what Sky stillers.
He just beats the cash down the floor. Now it's
ham and left cornerback out Stone King he stopped fakes

(13:27):
penetrate and kick. Miller will try a three from the
right wing. No good. Cox keeps it alive with a
tip and I think that's gonna end up that hustle's
and end up winning the calves another possession. Probably gonna
have a lot of three point attempts. You're your face
in the zone and stuff to go inside with Guthrie,
and we've had a couple of good looks at trees
and they're not bad shots. Just didn't fall out time,

(13:49):
throw it all the way out top to one Miller
were just two minutes in. Tied it forth west side
of stone King, stone King and the miller will play
a little pass and catch. Now it's Hammon in the
right corner, back outside Miller, left side stone King again,
not making the zone move too much here, just wanting
to spill it out and see how far out they

(14:09):
can pull it right now to look Cothie, okay, with
a little bit of patience, Co's in the left corner
like out Stone King. You've got Badger working the middle
of the zone. Really a four out, one end opportunity
for Chillicothe. Now it's Hamming in the right corner. Thought
about the three again, Chili Coofi is still very patient.
Now they get it inside to Bidger. Nice job, really

(14:32):
good pass and catch. Good fundamentals there and Bager working
away from the ball. Able to find a thing. Your
champion got all six of them, Jesse. He does. Back
on the other end. Now Silary's out top guarded by
hamm and comes off a ball screen from Guthrie. Now
he hands it off to the Bowers right sight at sours.

(14:53):
Baker in the high post goes against stone King. He
has bullies his way in and lays it in. Julian
Baker shows off full of that app What a sysm
we were highlighting in the pregame, Drake, and that's how
he did a running back running over people back the
other way Andrew Hammond. Let's one fly from the left wing.
That three ball is good. Chilicothe right back on top.

(15:14):
Nine to six. We're about four to twenty five left
first quarter. Chilicothee leads it by three. That comes to
Miami Trace. It's powers out top the ball pressure of Miller.
That's going to be a big factor for Chilicothie's defense
in that match up to night. Miami Trace turns it over,
but badrid is it right back now Miami Trady's gonna
have a three ball in the corner, so our's no good.

(15:37):
He follows his own shot and gets it back. Now
he spins into the middle shot up, no good one
more time. Guys Owers just stays with it. His third
opportunity was the charm that bucket cuts to Chilicothee lead
the one at nine to eight. Well that was a turnover.
Cam hadd it, but he got caught. We could have
been a turnover and a big lead turned into a
bucket from Miami Traces, said Sawier's soot at three, I

(16:00):
still got to go in Coach Beard asking for the patients,
and again Cox, Miller, stone King and him and out
around Top really just passing the ball around, trying to
move the defense. They're they're encouraging Badger to continue to
work in the middle because he's had some success finding
some holes. Now Cox turns around to the other end.
Coach Beard will call out a little set, I think

(16:24):
a double low post, two guys down low on the zone,
Miller over on the right side. Now back up Top
stone King, Stone King's gonna let a three fly. No
good fight for the loose Paul rebound. Badger comes out
with it, and I think he was fouled. Really good
effort breag from Badger here in the early going. Cam's
just what is Cam maybe six to maybe six to

(16:47):
one a head. He's blisted six three. I don't know
if I go with that or not yet, but he
plays he dus taller than he iss agree, So he's
able to jump. He's got a quick, quick leap, and
he's really tough around the boards. Chili Coffey is going
to get an obi under to be one miller to
throw it in. It's a one four low set for
ChIL Coffee. Goes far left corner to Stone King again

(17:09):
Chili Coffee and they're blue away uniforms tonight Miami Trace
and the home white. We're calling this action for you
with Chili Coofee moving our right to left, with Miami
Trace coming back left to right. We're also up just
like coach Biard if you can hear him, huh huh again,
good patience, Stone getting into the middle of the Cox
who's in the middle. Now they're trying to get Cox
a little bit of a touch. He goes up strong

(17:30):
against Guthrie. No call out comes Miami Trace with the
with the b loose ball, and then in the back
court they're going to get Cox on the reach in
because that was Robinette bringing it up. It's going to
be his first that time. We got the ball of
Cox in the middle of that zone, but he he
was double team. You put in Guthrie at six sixty

(17:51):
sixty seven and It was just tough for Cox to
get his shot off with the big man Bowers out top,
and again he in the games I've seen, he's handled
it most, but I think out of respect to Miller's
ball pressure, they've been going to some of their other goalers.
This time at Sours his shot up no good. Guph
three gets his first touch by an offensive rebound and
he puts it back in. Miami Trace up ten to nine.

(18:13):
Now we have two minutes to play in the first quarter.
We had the help side on Siger stops him from
shooting the layup, so I left Guthrie all alone for
the offensive rebound. Miller the badger in the high post.
He tips it right back out to Miller in stone
King now out top stone King, left side. Hammond back
out top stone King. He thought about a three. Now

(18:34):
it's Hammon left side shot. Fake gets into the middle,
good penetration, knocked away by Bowers, out comes to Miami Trace.
Bowers to the other end, keeps his balance and lays
it in. Jae Bowers his first two points of the night.
Miami Trace now up twelve to nine. One thirty five
left first quarter. Six oh run for Miami Trace all
three layups, one on a breakaway after a turnover or

(18:56):
offensive rebound. So now it's right side stone King Soil
Cothy trying to push him out a little bit, but
Miami Trade stand pretty disciplined, staying in. Now Stone King
will penetrate in the middle. He'll go right corner to
Cox all the way back out top Miller left side
of him, and again Coach Beard asking for the patients.

(19:18):
Badger from the left corner. Three ball comes up short off.
It's a rebound by Cox. Cox loses it with some
contact and Miami Trace is going to take possession. Let's
see if they want to take the last shot of
the quarter. As we come under a minute of plood,
good offensive rebound, but Cox had a knocked away. Ours
out Top plays a little two man with gut three

(19:39):
and they throw it away on the roll. Out comes
Stone King of Chili Coothee. Now back to Miller with
forty seconds ago, maybe if Phila Cothie's turned to maybe
hold for one each team with three turnovers, So thirty
three seconds in counting twelve nine, Miami Trace looks like
Chili Cothy's going to try to hold for one up side,

(20:00):
well Hammon will go ahead and want a three fly
and he got it. So off of a little bit
of a quick hitter there. They screened the zone and
Hammon with the hot hand here knocks it down. Tied
its twelve, fifteen seconds to go again. Sooers is going
to take a lot of the point guard duty here
tonight against Hammer sours hard drive down the middle, kicks
it out right side. It's Baker for three and his

(20:22):
three balls. Julian Baker with a big first quarter. He
has seven points and Miami trace as the quarter comes
in as it leads it fifteen to twelve. You're listening
to the Chilicothee Boys basketball on WBX fourteen ninety The expert.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
Up as Chilicothe back on the road here to face
the Panthers of Obviously, both Chilicte and Miami Trac center
at one to zero at first quarter. Very competitive back
and forth. Drake Miami Trace least the fifteen twelve Yeah,
both teams we see him with three turnovers. Miami Trace
is shooting sixty four percent from the floor one to
two from the three point line, and Chilicothy's shooting almost

(21:59):
forty six percent. They've taken six three in the game
and hit two of them, most by Ammon zone offense.
Back on the first possession, stone King with a left
side three, No good. Andrew Hammond on the offensive glass
puts it back. Hammon now with eight cuts to Miami
trace lead to fifteen fourteen. We're just thirty seconds into
the second quarter. Backhams sours high ball string from Guthrie

(22:23):
out top. Baker now inside to Guthrie, who I gather's
about three Chilicothie defenders and Kade Whittaker, who just checks
into the game, dives in underneath. Bit a pass from
Guthrie for the layout. Yeah, guth we got it down low.
We double team triple team and did a great job
turned around and jumping off to the wide open layo.

(22:43):
Nice pass by Guthrie. Seven smart player, absolutely very patient. Yeah,
seventeen fourteen. Miami trades Chilicothee back, trying to solve this zone.
Stone King way out top swings a past left side.
Miller will try a three ball and he got it.
Van Miller's first points of the night is a three
ball that ties us up at seventeen. So conty three threes.

(23:07):
Now in the ball game against the Sun. A little
running jump here from Silicoffie in the back court. Now
Miami tracing the scrimmage area. Guthrie has it high guarded
by Badger. He'll go left corner to Whitaker out top.
Baker now down load to Guthrie, and I think we've
got a foul on the catch. Badger got caught behind
him a little bit, got caught up for the hole.

(23:28):
Probably a good break there because it's going to be
a lay up for Guthrie. It turned out to be.
You're right, it's a good foul because Guthrie had a
left finned the smaller badger on his back and he
just spun and he was going to have an easy
lay up with camp out him before he shot it.
Obie under from Miami Trace. Baker looking for someone's gonna
throw it all the way out top sours now high

(23:48):
post to Guthrie. Guthrie dumps it download a Baker and
he lays it in again. When Guthrie catches it in
the middle, he's gaining so many eyeballs that other guys
are away from the ball, becoming wide open for lay
up opportunities. Miami TRACE's is on fire, but they're shooting
a lot of layups. Nineteen seventeen, Miami Trace, six minutes

(24:09):
until halftime, Chilicothe Stone king out top. He goes right
side Hamming back out Miller again, Miami Trace not coming
out of the zone. Jel cotis showing some patience, just
as I say that stone King on the on the
penetration and kick and he throws it out of BAM's
turnover back to Miami Trade. Fourth turnover East. She had

(24:32):
three turnovers the first quarter. That's the first year of
the second quarter. But gives Miami Trace to chance to
extend the lead. Here Sours out Top guarded by Cocks.
Now it's left side Bowers. He swings it over to Baker.
Solour's now on the cut, catches, spins shot up off
the glass and good sky. Sours has six in the
first half. Here spends Miami TRACE's lead back to Forth

(24:54):
twenty one to seventeen. When he's athletic as well, he
was a group. Now I know why it's such a
good wide receiver where moves like that, no question. Hamm
and out Top thought about the three. Now goes left
side Miller. He'll try another three, and he got it
again Jan Miller back to back triples and again that's
a young This zone is something they're really going to

(25:14):
have to do is knock down the open three, and
they've been able to do that. Twenty one twenty Miami
trays Miman Tray shooting layups, Cap shooting threes, high ball
screen from gu three. It's Whitaker all the way and
I think he had some happy feet there of the
at the rim and then got called for the travel.
So the turnover has some substitutions here. Miami Trace has

(25:37):
Armstrong into the game, and then it looks like Robinette
will return. Sires did go out of the game. So
one of the Panthers left side, Hammon out top stone King.
They're still using Cox and the middle Hammon's going to
try a left side three all the way in and
out Cox. They're working hard on the offensive. Glass came

(26:00):
Cox with his first points in the night. Chili Coffee
back in front twenty two twenty one, a little run
and jump opportunity with some ball pressure, Chili Coffee causing
some trouble. Now it's Baker into the front court. He's
gonna give way to sours. Cox still trying to pressure
the ball, skips it all the way across. Armstrong just
into the game. Thought about the three. Now it's Faker

(26:21):
in the right corner, he'll try a three again and
he knocks it down big. First half from Julian Baker,
just like that. Miami trace back in front twenty four
to twenty two. Badger and him and play a little
back and forth. Now it's Van Miller in the right
corner and Van Miller's found the hot hand. That's his
third triple of the second quarter. Chili Coaffie back in

(26:41):
front twenty five, twenty four, four minutes then still halftime.
That comes Miami trace Guphrie down low just basically barrels over.
Badger misses the shot, gets it back and lays it in.
Miami trace back in front by one. Twenty six, twenty five.

(27:02):
Miller out top high post, Cox out the stone king
down the badge or got a cot in the middle.
Tried tomost throw it like an alley hooped type thing
and just came up short. Now back turns it back
over to Miami. Trays Armstrong out top, pressured by Cox.
Cox gets a tip of that ball is going to

(27:22):
go into the chilicothee event. Cox was the last to
touch it to Miami. Tracey will Key possession. Now Miami
Chase is gonna get Tiger's back and He's a big
part of their offense. The guy had surprised me as
Julian Baker great running back. I don't remember him playing
basketball last year. Leave down outside just a sophomore of
what you had said, he play played JV Yes, Baker

(27:45):
downloaded Guthrie. He swings it all the way opposent quarter
to sours and I think stone King with a good
box house is gonna draw a foul on. I think
it was Baker that comes over the back there. I
thought maybe Guthrie a little too unselfish, that I had
great position and the willing passer kicked at opposite corner
for the three. Give stone King a lot of credit

(28:06):
on the box out. Guthrie had a short baseline jumper
about six feet and gave it up for three side
hamm and once Cox in the in the high post
there now but not there, back out the stone chain
swing it back. This time they do get at the
Cox at the elbow, he'll turn and shoot. I like that.
And that was in and out.

Speaker 4 (28:23):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Play Carte Liggan into the game for silicoffee as well.
Miami trace on the rebound, they'll bring it back the
other way. Miami Trace twenty six twenty five out in
front two forty two to halftime, right side Vowers, all
the way down the Guthrie and he just lays it
in way too easy, Adam Guthrie. Now with six twenty
eight to twenty five, Miami Traces lead back to three.

(28:45):
Carte Leggings got matched up that time. Give them Badger
or Drake and Carte just got out matched by the
big by Guthrie. Stone King out top, goes right side
him and he'll try another deep three. No good, That
ball is gonna come off untouched, all the way out
of bound, and so again Miami Trace will get it back.
Now here's where the but the Cavaliers not being deep,

(29:07):
not with that without sism Ligan a freshman in and
now Hitchens has come in, and you got some real mismatches.
Hitchens and Licoln haven't played a lot of varsity minutes.
You got to put him in and give him the break.
You're you're right. Cock's on the ball. Pressure here. Now
it's over to Boers, guarded by Miller, Armstrong, back out Bowers.
They'll penetrate. Miller cuts them off. Back outside Armstrong, He's

(29:30):
guarded by Hitchins good ball pressure here for Chilo Coothie.
On this possession, Guthrie gets it in the high post
guarded by Ligan. He drops steps, good help for Miller
knocks it away, but Guthrie retains possession and lays it in.
Pretty good job of digging in the post. There they
knock the ball away. Chilicothie unable to win the loose
ball that layup puts Miami trades backed up five thirty

(29:51):
twenty five one left in the first half. Hitch and
swings it all the way across the stone King and
stone King did a great job there of avoiding the
turnover Greg by meeting the pass. He ends up drawing
the files. He doesn't step to that ball. It's going
to be a way up on the other end. Yeah,
Coach b probably gonna get Hitchins and legging out. Those

(30:12):
two young men. Just try to get in and give you,
give you a minute or two. Great, Carty said, man
Guthrie's a big guy. He sure is. Kirk Ta was
he was posting up beating on Cartes. Now they swing
it all the way left corner to Cayden Cox. His

(30:32):
three point shot blocked by Guthrie out of bounds, so
one nineteen left first half, Miami Trace leads at thirty
twenty five. You know, we like to stay within field.
Be great to get back with him two or three
if we can get one here. How about this left side?
Ham and why not again? Ju look Cofee really shooting
the three ball and coach Beard all that makes gonna
take a time out. It's going to be a short one.

(30:53):
Let's stay here, Greg and tell you Miami Trace thirty
twenty eight. You're right, Miami Trace seems to be getting
a little bit easier when they get it, you know,
round the rim. But ChIL COTHI the three ball here?
Uh see one, two, three, four or five? Six sticks
out of thirteen from the three point line. Von Miller
I think has three of them and Hammon has the
other three. Correct, Yeah, so it's out of the sticks

(31:14):
out of thirteen from the three point line has kept
them in the game. Miami Trace has made one, two, three, four, five,
six seven. They've made eight of their last nine shots
by eight of their last ten because they missed the
three pointer in the corner, but eight of their last
nine because they all didn't layups inside other than the
one that they hit. Outside that Baker hit. Otherwise it's

(31:36):
just been pounded inside and Guthrie on layups. When I
think what people to understand that Guthrie, it's far more
than just the eight points he has. It's the attention
he draws, it's the it's his willing miss to pass
and so forth. And here they're using to break some pressure.
He throws it down the silars. He throws a cross court.
Bowers will try three. No good, great job by Badger
on the block out and he rebounds and pushes it

(31:58):
out the other way. He throws it all the way down.
Too strong for cocks. Not a bad idea, just the
Foro execution of the past, and they end up thrown
it away. It was there under manager within two and
a the old twenty twenty hindsight that I'm shouldn't have
pushed it, But you're right they had a chance. It's
still a little bit higher. The hours pushed it hard
against stone King, Stone King, with good ball pressure out

(32:22):
top right side by ours down low. Guthrie won on
one good footwork. I tied Biger got a piece of
the shot and that ball, Oh they're gonna call a
loose ball foul. I think on Schila coffee. I think
they got badger there again. Coach Beard is gonna have
to go at Biger's second. He's got to get back
to the bench here. This will be interesting. That's the

(32:44):
young man, the big guy coming in for the Cabs.
NOA netter six six sophomore Guthrie out wasting body about
three hundred pounds right corner. Robinette back in the bowers now.
He tried to get it back to Robin that had
about threw it away, but got it back and he
got called for travel again. Great ball pressure. Guthrie had
position now low, but because of the great ball pressure,

(33:06):
Chilicothie able to calls the turnover. Miami trace leads at
thirty twenty eight. We're under thirty seconds remaining in the
first half. One shot, saying against his own unless they're
going to go man to man one Miller walks it
across the timeline and greg I thinks you're right. They're
eighteen seventeen in counting. Chillakothy going to try to take
the final shot of the half. Let's take your time
and a little bit of pressure, but it's still on

(33:28):
his own. Calling for the ball screen from better Miller
comes off now. Miller tried to throw it to the
opposite corner and ended up throwing it away, just not
on the same page there. So at five point six seconds,
Miami Trace now is going to get a chance to
add to this two point lead. Was a bad turnover,
just not good time and score execution from the Cats,

(33:51):
you can get you can give up a foul here.
They won't send him to the line. Bowers pushes it
all the way up the right side, gives way to
Armstrong's shot take. I don't think he got it all's
I think Miami Trace is gonna Miami Trace is gonna
get one there. I don't think on the shot fake

(34:11):
that he got that all. But nonetheless, the only opinion
that it matters is the two hands from the official
that went up in the air. So at the buzzer,
Luke Armstrong knocks down the three ball and Miami Trace
leads at thirty three twenty eight. As we've now arrived
at halftime, you're listening to Joel Cosey Boys basketball on WDX.

Welcome back to Miami Trace High School, Shane Holmes, Drake
Bigham here with you on fourteen ninety WBX on the
AM side, ninety two point seven FM and worldwide on
the High Heart. And you know, Greg, I guess there's
two things before we get the sub numbers. Time and
becomes such an important thing in situational basketball. I thought

(38:04):
the Calves got a tough break there on the call,
but what makes that possible is Cholic Coffee not executing
their time in score and even allowing Miami Trace to
come back. Nonetheless, that's by it is what it is,
and thirty three twenty eight Chila Coffee certainly going toe
to toe here with Miami Trace, and this is certainly
a game they can get right back in here. In
the third quarter, I was thinking the same thing. Took

(38:24):
the words out of my mouth. Yet they've played well.
Caps has done a great job, but you're down two points,
they're in a zone, you've got the final shot, and
you throw a thirty foot skip pass and throw it away,
and hey, if it's a perfect pass, we hit a three,
we take the lead. But it was it's a it
could have been. It was a four or five point

(38:45):
turnaround in the final seconds because they yeah, they threw
in a three, and I'm like you, I don't think
it was before the buzzer. But the Caps should have
taken the last shot. If you miss it, you're down two.
Instead they're down five. But generally speaking, the Caves did
a great job shooting. Cavs shot almost forty four percent.
So what they survived on which you brought up several

(39:05):
times and very astutely pointed out to the people listening
in the Calves lived with the three ball. They were
six out of thirteen. Miller hit three him and hit
three six out of thirteen from the three point line.
Kepu in the game on the other side, Miami Trace. Overall,
I have them shooting sixty eight percent from the two
point range. They've only missed one of their last nine

(39:27):
and one of their last ten shots. They're nine of
their last ten. They think back they hit the Baker
hit the one from three point range, but otherwise they
all been layups, are in the paint, and it's because
that advantage of the six to seven kid inside. They've
shot the ball extremely well, and they wound up with
that last three of being three out of six from
the three point line. And we'll see. But man, a

(39:48):
two point lee would have felt better than down by five.
I agree, it is what you said. It is what
it is. Let's take a look at some individual scoring. First,
for Chilicti. Great mentioned Van Miller there with three three
point field goals. He has nine, Caden Cox with two,
Andrew Hammond had a hot hand. He had three threes
and an offensive footback for eleven. He leads Chilicothee and

(40:14):
scoring here at the half with those eleven points. Cam
Badger with six haied that up. That's the twenty eighth
that Chilicothee has here at the half. Over on the
Miami Trace side, Julian Baker leads the way with twelve points.
He had two to three pointers from the right wing.
Adam Guthrie the big post player with eight sky Sowers

(40:36):
was six two for Whittaker, three for Armstrong there at
the buzzer, and two for Bowers. And again, as I
look at those, I don't think the eight points explain
just what Guthrie means to this game. His presence in
the middle drawing a lot of health defenders a lot
of the outside looks coming from that. I also thought
it was interesting you could tell in the Miami Trace

(40:57):
scotting report I've seen the freshman and guard Gage Bauers
handling the ball most of the year so far. I
think with the scouting report of Jan Miller and his
ball pressure, Miamy Trace has been able to utilize some
of their athletic size with sours and Robinett at sixty three,
even Guthrie at sixty seven, pulling them out to break pressure.
That'll be something interesting to see if Chilicothe can continue

(41:20):
to wear on them. So I do think Chili Coothie
applied some ball pressure. How many turnovers did you say there?
I had Pilkathy had six turnovers Miami and Trace had
him with five. So and again it's such a slow
tempo game, that's still quite a few. But you're right.
I give coach Acklie he does a good job. Coach
Acklie coached the girls for a good while here with
some success, and now with the boys program for several years.

(41:41):
But you're right. What he's done is he doesn't want
the freshmen going against one miller bringing the ball up,
so he brings Sire's out, one of his wing players
matched up against Andrew Hammond. Both of them are probably
about six two sixty three, but Saiyer's has good quickness
and you get a better matchup than any used gus.
Or you're bringing him out because you just throwed up
high to him. You know I could take it away,

(42:01):
So actly did a nice jump knowing Shila Comson's going
to apply the pressure and like you said, they've moved
people around and had some of the other people doing
a lot of the ball handling. Not having one miller
guard the freshman with the basketball. Good choice by them. Well,
and I've joked with some Chilicothee fans the other night,
you know, we were saying, I promise Chili Coffee really

(42:23):
does have home games this year on their schedule, you know,
back on the road to night Friday night, they'll they'll
make the trip back over this way to Washington Courthouse
and then over the after the new year there they
go up to Hillary Davidson. They do get a home
game on January seventh with Western Brown, but then when
fac plays, they're right back to McLean. So what that
means is they're going through a lot of growing pains

(42:44):
here on the road. But you look at that schedule,
like ten of the last thirteen going to be there
back in the the friendly confines there of your own
home gym there in Chillicothe. And I've based on the
other night, that's going to be a great thing for
the Calves. So, well, another quick break, let's get let's
get a quick time out here. We got about a
minute thirty five before the second half, and we'll come

(43:04):
back and give you some third quarter action. You're listening

Welcome back to Miami Trace High School, Shane Colmes and
Great Bigham. As we're coming up on the start of
the third quarter, Coach Beard's gonna bun him out there
just the way he started him with Miller, stone King,
Badger Hammon, and Cox. Miami Trace still in their huddle,
but it appears to me they'll also have their five
starters out there with gu three, Baker, Fowerstours and Robinette.

(44:40):
Miami Trace up five. That's that's their biggest lead, right Shanah,
It right there in that three days. As we said,
they kind of threw it in. It's a right, it's
a buzzer. But but they get the basketball up by five.
Here we go Panthers basketball to start the second half.
Right side. It's the Baker. He tries to throw it
into Got three and it's picked off by him and

(45:01):
out comes stone King the other way in his way
up attempt his block out of bounds by Sowers, but
ChIL Coffee will have an obi underneath opportunity to cut
into the spypoint. Miami Trace lead into the corner. Hammon
downloaded Badger Bager against Guthrie. He'll walk it back out now,

(45:23):
will face him up he'll try a three ball, no good.
That's long rebound Bowers of Miami Trace. Now Bower's holding
it out top, guarded by Miller, a little bit of
an extended on his own. Look here from Chilicothe. We
haven't seen much of this this year. Three ball from Sours,

(45:44):
no good, staved by Guthrie. I'll come. Stone King gives
way to Miller. Now downloaded and drew him and then
ChIL Cothy just a little sloppy and transition. Fortunately Miami
Trace did touch that. Laugh. I think Chila Cothy is
going to keep possession. We got a break there, bad pass,
but Miman Trace Syer's touched the last, so Cas will

(46:04):
have it under their own bucket down by fine Millard
m Bail throws it all the way out top the cocks.
Now it's a hard drive from stone King and he
throws it away. Guthrie picks it off there, gives way
to Bowers and he'll walk it up. Coach Ackley calls
out a set. Guthrie out to play high ball string

(46:25):
with Bowers, gives it the Baker. Now back to Bowers.
They'll hand it back to Baker. They're trying to get
Guthrie in the high post. Chilicothie doing a pretty good
job of taking it away so far left side. It's
sours skip pass all the way across right wing Baker.
Now Bowers out top. Flowers will drive into the middle.
His penetration will kick left side. Slowers will a pretty

(46:47):
good look. No good from three, but Bowers runs down
the rebank. Now it's Robinette from the left wing and
at three, ball falls and at the second possession for
Miami Trace for results in a three point bill goal.
Thirty six, twenty eight. Miami trades Miller penetration. It's Badger
in the right corner, thought about a three, drives hard

(47:09):
to the baseline and draws the contact, and he's going
to go to the free throw line and shoot a pair.
This will be our first found shots tonight. I believe
nobody's shot a free throw in the first half.

Speaker 6 (47:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
Thirty six twenty eight, six oh six third quarter, Cam
Badger at the free throw line for Chilcythe first free
throw rims all the way around and comes off no good.
Cam will get a second. That ball did everything but
go in second free throw that's short, no good rebound.

(47:48):
The Baker of Miami Trace so empty opportunity for Chilicothee
there and Miami trades with a chance to push this
thing to double figures. Here thirty six twenty eight lead
in the ball Stowers looking to hand it off the
Boers again Miller. I don't think Miller ever touched it. Yeah,
off his hip. That's going to be over and back.
So Miami Trace turns it over again. Good ball pressure,

(48:11):
and that's what we talked about at be half. The
ball pressure overall has been pretty good for Chilpip. Miller
walks it across the timeline ball screen with Hamm and
now Hamm and will look to Flair and Guthrie jumps
the pass and knocks it away. Out comes Bowers, Bowers
right side Baker. No good Guthrie on the put back,

(48:32):
and I think we have a foul, but it should
be on the floor. I don't think Guphrie got that
shot back up. I think it's going to be a foul,
but it should be Miami Trace underneath. Yes, they're going
to call the compact on the floor. Baker to inbound
out over the top, Robinette upside sours now back to

(48:53):
a flare screen that Robinette he drives hard to the
base line, takes it all the way under with the
reverse lay of Trey Robinette, his first basket of the night,
the very athletic move on the baseline. Miami Trace leads
it by ten thirty eight twenty eight. All of a sudden, Yeah,
have a couple of turnovers and two miss free through
sore down by double figures. Stone King out top goes

(49:15):
right side to him and now download of cocks. He
spins the medal draws and double try to hit Badger.
Now now he does get it down to Badger and
Badger goes up locked by Sour's a lot of contact
at the rim, so Miami Trace throws it away back
come the stone King, and stone King throws it into
the wall. Mimi Trace is going to get it back.

(49:38):
ChIL Cofee's just a little bit out of rhythm here
hat several open court opportunities and again Coach Beard just
trying to get him to slow down. Noah Netter returns
the lineup for Chilicifie replacing stone King. Thirty eight twenty eight.
Miami Trace leads four forty two third quarter sours off

(50:00):
a ball stream from Guthrie. Now out Top Robinette. Jill
post feed into Guthrie slashing to the rim as Baker.
Guthrie hits him, but Baker misses the layup. Outcomes Chili
Coothy's good rebound by Netter Badger up the right side,
gives way to Cox. Cox with a good look at
three right in front of his own bench. Too strong
rebuild Miami Trees, Jelic Cothie still looking for its first

(50:24):
points in the second half. They trail by ten thirty
eight to twenty eight. Baker left side Robinette. Now it's
Baker on the slash, blocked there by Cox. They and Netter,
I think they both got a piece of it. Out
Comes Cox, He'll look to push, gets all the way
in the middle, kicks it left side. Badger will try
a three, no good, good hustle from Ham and knocks

(50:46):
the loose. Cox comes up with a loose ball, and
I think we're gonna have a loose ball foul on
Miami Trees. Getting Jilli Cothy with some decent looks here
in the second half, just unable to get in some
rhythm in the open court. Well. They were six out
of the third team, and we talked to about him eleven,
but the three in the first half. But they are
oh for three here in this half from the free

(51:07):
point line. Fortunately, Miami Trace has committed four turnovers here
in the quarter. Ligan returns to the Chilicoti lineup, replacing
Badger in bound past the cocks. Miller chases it into
a handoff. Now Miller gets into the middle his pull
up jumper good nice paying time are for jan Miller

(51:27):
gets strong moves thirty eight thirty for m and Trace
Lee Date. That's the first two points in the second
half and came after the four minute mark. Bowers up
against the ball pressure of Miller. Ligan with the running jump,
takes it away, knocks it away, but he loses it.
Back comes Bowers of Miami trays Our top Sours, pressured

(51:53):
by Liggan. Sours goes right side, hands it off the
whittaker a top baker. Alex Guthrie out top on the
right point. A little flex action here for Miami Trace
at Sours into the middle with to spend no good
good box out Noah Netter, thank you's going to draw
the foul on. Adam Guthrie. Some good minutes here off

(52:13):
the bench from Noah Netter. One good thing for the Cavs.
We've got to time out, so we'll see the foot
fall here. It's going to be a full time out.
We'll take a break as well. Calves are down by eight.
You're listening to Caves Basketball in the Home of the

Speaker 2 (53:01):
Back in Miami, Trace, I'm Greg Bigham, Shane Combs are
play by play guy and Dabs on the road fight
the whole first st half. They fell behind by ten,
they're back within eight, and he said, we've tabs have
gotten some open look opportunities, just haven't been able to finish.
They were stuff inside with the big guys. But we've
just made a couple of bad decisions, but still only

(53:23):
down eight. Despite all that, Miami trace gets you in
between a little bit with their links. I mean, how
much do you take the three? How much do you attack?
You feel like you're attacking in the size, And again,
that's just kind of part of their identity. We talked
about that in the pregame. You know, they come in,
they're only they're only allowing forty four points a game,
and they're pretty much on pace to do that here tonight. Well,
you know, we talked Guthrie protecting in there with six seven,

(53:44):
whoever he is. But you just hit the nail on
the head. They're long, they're they just got links to
their defense to get their hands on a lot of basketball.
Out of the time out Chilicothee basketball t hamming out top,
goes left side Miller, Millers drives hard to the paint,
drops it off to Noah Netter and from behind, Bowers
is going to get a piece of him because he

(54:05):
goes up for the layup. Nice job by Miller getting
to the middle. Noah Netter is going to go to
the free throw line. Batbeard talking to just before the
gaming is. Oh, we're going to have to use Netter some,
but you know there could be a silver lining to that,
and net Or missed the style shot and the fact
that Netter's going to get a little more varsity experience

(54:27):
with al Ganiasism being on the team for a while.
Netder'll get a second one here. Chilicothie, Oh for three
here from the free throw line. Second half, now, oh
for fours. That one's too strong rebound Guthrie and Miami tray.
So some opportunities there at the free throw line. Chilicothe
let's let's get away. Armstrong cross the timeline guarded by
cocks trying to get at the bowers. It's Miller, but

(54:50):
again it's Guthrie who comes out such a good release
valve against the pressure. Chilicothie was some good advantage at
the guard positions, but some of the athletic front line
able to help the guards for Miami Trays Alix Armstrong
left side three, No good good box out there from
Hammon gives way to Liggan. They're gonna look the push
carte into the middle, goes to kick it out. The

(55:13):
cock that's picked off by Baker out the Soours Spours
behind the back dribble. Now they'll pull it back out.
Spowers in the middle. Give the Guthrie Guthrie one on
one in the post against Nedder drops Steph jump up
Adam Guthrie good his first basket of the second half.
He has ten in the game. Miami Trace lead back

(55:35):
to ten, forty to thirty. Back comes Miller. Miller. Shot
was changed a little bit, but able to get it
off the ligging back out. Miller now download one and
netter there and he just throws it away just a
little bit out in front of him. Turnover back to
Miami Trade. Seamy Cavs said, six turnovers in the first

(55:55):
time they've had six turnovers here in the third quarter.
I've heard him, and they've had to put a couple
of young guys in here. But you can't afford six
turnovers when you're on the road against the team like
Miami Trace. In one quarter, Armstrong brings it up for
Miami Trace. Guarded by Cocks right side. It's Byers. Now,
download of Guthrie. Guthrie nice patience here drops a bounce

(56:20):
pass to cutting Sours and Badra knocked it off of
him and Chilicothee calls a turnover one twenty third quarter,
Miami Trace leads it forty to thirty. That's five turnovers
to Miami Trace in the third quarter or so. Some
teams have turned it over quite a bit here in
the period. I come to Chilictee, gets the three two

(56:41):
zone and they just throw it right in the hands
of Baker. So again a little bit of a sloppy
third quarter here for Chilicothee offensively sours penetrate left side.
It's Fowers, he penetrates in kicks at corner Armstrong, he'll
take a mid range jumper, no good rebound badger at Chilicothee.
Cam will book the push, throws it up to Miller.

(57:01):
Miller upright side of Ham and go go back out
the Miller and Caves will reset beast night is Cox
looks like Miami Trace has matched up on this possession.
Cox takes advantage of that and gets it all the
way to the rim and he lays it in. Nice job,
Cayden Cox. He has four on the night. Cuts to

(57:21):
Miami Trace lead to eight at forty thirty two with
thirty one point eight seconds. Got a time out here,
and I think it's a short one, so we'll stay
right here. You know, with everything that's kind of gone
wrong in the last four or five minutes of basketball,
Chilikoki's still in an eight point basketball game. Yeah, I mean,
let's see, they were thirteen, they're oer for three from

(57:45):
the free point line. They've had six turnovers and oh
for four from the free oh for four from the
foul line, all that in the third quarter, and then
we're still down eight. Yeah, the missed up. It has
been pretty good. I would get you. I would think, though,
you say, I think Miami tasel and wait for a
final shot. They're up eight had they have the basketball,
so the Calves will put some pressure. But if your

(58:05):
Miami trace much like the Calves should have done at
the end of the half. But they want the last shot,
and the Calves aren't going to come out of full
car pressure. Still thirty one seconds left till the buzzers
at the end of the third quarter, Bill walt Guthrie
up and use him as a release. Now Netder will
come up and try to give the ball pressure, got
three handles, it breaks the ten second count. Now give

(58:26):
his way to Armstrong Cox with all pressure there gives
it off the Baker coach Beard wanting just a little
bit more ball, pressure out up into the line on
the denial again. Guthrie uses himself as a release. Bout
ten seconds He'll go one on one against Netter. He
gets all the way to the rim, shot up, No good,
badger with the rebound. Three seconds and I'm not sure

(58:49):
they're aware of it, and they don't get a shot off.
And we've come to the end of the third quarter.
We've played three here in Miami, Trace the Panthers leave
the calves forty to thirty two. You're listening to Chilicoffee
Boys basketball in WBX.

Speaker 3 (59:02):
For over fifty years, the Heller family has been here
to help families in our area remember the life of
a loved one, share that loved one's legacy, and the
heel is to go through the grieving process. The Heller
family continues to remember Sharon Hill with the area's largest,
most modern facility on site crematory, and most importantly, with
their carrying and dedicated professionals. Each individual's life is unique,

(59:23):
and selecting how their funeral home ensures their tribute will
be just as unique. How her funeral home helping families,
remember share and heal.

Speaker 2 (59:34):
Welcome back to Miami Trace High School, Chilicope. Within eight
forty thirty two, Miami Trace out in front and great.
Not a lot of offense on either side there just
seven points for the Panthers, four points for the Calves.
But again that that halftime advantage grows a little bit,
and with the tempo the way it is, if you

(59:55):
certainly don't want to let this thing get back to
double digits here early in the fourth quarter. Know and
you know Miami Strace shot sixty eight percent of the
first half. In the third quarter they shot twenty three percent,
so it did slow down. Kavalier's only got you said
that Kabaliers only shot the ball six times in that
entire quarter. And again the seven turnovers in the quarter

(01:00:17):
hurt the Cavs. Well, it's been a pretty good defensive
effort for the Caves here considering who they're playing offensively.
They really got to find something here in the fourth quarter.
They get the ball to start the fourth quarter, Stone
King out top goes to hamm and now was swinging
all the way around the Cox Cox left side badger
inside the ham and his shot up is good, much

(01:00:37):
needed basket there Andrew Hammond now with thirteen on the
night they cut the lead to six. At forty to thirty,
Robinette push it up the left side, guarded by Badger.
Now it's over to Baker hamm and trying to give
some ball pressure. ChIL Coffee really trying to apply some
pressure now inside gush regarded by Netter. He bullies his
way all the way to the rim and lays it in.

(01:00:58):
Adam Guthrie. Just too strong when you play behind there.
Forty two thirty four Miami trace lead back to eight
Altol stone King left side. Cox Cox drives hard to
the rim and lays it in. Outstanding drive and score
Caden Cox lead back to six. Chilicothe in need of

(01:01:20):
a stop. Robinette up the left side, goes down low Guthrie.
He wraps up nedder to the rim shot no good
rebound him and Badger pushes it ahead the Cox Cox
all the way into the paint. Now kicks it back
ray side. Stone King had a great look at it,
unable to knock it down. Bowers of Miami trace out

(01:01:41):
with the rebound. Really good look for Chilicothe there Forty
two thirty six that goes down. They get back within three,
Robinette Hard on the drive and and Guthrie on the
ball screen. There do we have a moving scream? You
know they're going to call Badger for fighting through the screw.

(01:02:02):
Liggan's going to return for Phila Cothe with that foul
on Badger. And remember now in your matchup, because Cam
picked up his fowl, you got freshman Carte ligging, and
you got sophomore and Nolan Netter in the lineup. So
tough matchups. So I think Coach's gonna try to get
von Miller back in the game as soon as you can.
All nighte deeal side out of bounds. They wanted to

(01:02:23):
go into Guthrie and Cox jumps up and gets deflection.
Miami tradit team's possession now down low Disguthrie in the middle,
coast better fighting for a position. They swing at left corner.
Bowers thought about the three turns it down. Now it's
Guthrie at the right elbow. He drives, he spins to
the middle, lays up left hand, no good rebound. Netter

(01:02:44):
at Chila Cofee out the Cox. Chilicothee able to cut
into the six point lead. Here with the bucket. Cox
spins in the middle, draws two, gets through contact, shot
up and I thought we were gonna have an n one,
but the nearby official here are going to call it
on the floor. So no basket forty two thirty six,
Miami Trace five forty eight remaining in the game, Silicafee

(01:03:06):
with an ob under Miller turns the lineup for him
and stone King will trigger Man from the baseline. Ob
Cox from the oppositink corner had a good look at three.

Speaker 8 (01:03:17):
No good.

Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
How comes Miami Trace with a two on one opportunity
Baker in the open court and he lays that in well,
but Noah Netter is going to go up, and I
think it'd be called for goaltending that ball is well
up in the in the cylinder there, So give Baker.
Give Baker the layoup she knows a long time. Calves
are down six. We have several possessions, a couple of
good look at threes. Cox got inside one, so a

(01:03:41):
couple of looks there when we could have cut it
to floor. And now it's back to an eight point
advantage for the Fencers. Because Drake says forty four to
thirty six. Silicothee back here in his own offense, legging
on the right side, pressure there and Bowers takes it away.
Bowers into the open court, gives way to robin At
and laise it in Trey. Robinette off of the steal

(01:04:03):
and assist from Bowers lead back to ten. At forty
six thirty six inside Cox, Cox against Guthrie takes him
right out the big man and draws the foul, maybe
sires from behind. You got the foul, you're right, but
you're right. Guthrie was there also, and you're gonna have
to get I know, Coach Biers, you're trying to give

(01:04:24):
the guys a break and get a breath. But it's
really not fair for Cartelegan as a freshman out on
the point him of the basketball. I mean, one of
the best athletes we've seen come along and at a
nice job by Noah in there. These guys are picking
up valuable minutes, but stuff when you're some of your

(01:04:45):
early versity minutes come at Miami Chaca. I agree against
the guys. Six seven men another mystery for Coxs made
the first miss the second forty six thirty seven, five
minutes to play in the game. Back comes Robinette, I'll
top hours. You know, Miami Trace wants their big man
to touch it. Here they go Baker right side. They

(01:05:05):
do throw it into the post to Guthrie. He pitches
it back to Bowers. Bowers drives, then pulls it back out.
Now Baker downloaded Guthrie. Guthrie starts to spind move. One
Miller comes and helps Badger, and I think they're gonna
call Miller on the grab underneath. You know, I wonder
if halftime or even here in the third quarter, you're
coach Acli, you can go to Guthrie and say, Son,

(01:05:27):
you're a great player. Don't be don't be so uns.
You need to be more selfish. Right right, You're right,
they're gonna get They're gonna give him active shooting on that.
I thought one Miller on the reach him first free
throw no good. And again I think that's Miami TRACE's
first free throw. Cabs are only one out of six
in the foul line. I'm shoot him well. Second free

(01:05:50):
throw also no good. But Chilicothe unable to rebound the
basketball and knock it out of bounds, and Miami Trace
after you get a gift of two miss free throws.
They can't re bound the ball. Miami Trace gets it back.
This little thing, Shane, little possessions here and there, difference
between Dean down nine and maybe being within about two Bowers.
Then Bound drops a bounce pass there to Baker and

(01:06:13):
the help had to come over and on the offensive rebound.
Gou three offensive rebound and puts it back in forty
eight thirty seven, Miami TRACE's biggest lead of the night
thirty seconds. So we'll stay here with you and Greg.
You're right, I want to go back to the six
point advantage. I know a stone King and Cox both
had good looks at the three. Cox had what we

(01:06:35):
thought was going to be an old passioned three opportunity,
but they called it on the floor. Certainly had an
opportunity on those two or three possessions. And then, just
like all good teams, Miami Trace takes advantage when you
don't capitalize. They're gun right back at you. Here we
are down eleven again. Yeah, forty two to thirty six,
and you're right, all of a sudden, you're down. You're
down eleven with almost just a little over four minutes

(01:06:55):
to go into the basketball game. I mean, Cabs has
done a better job. They had a horrible third quarter
with turnovers. They've slowed that down a little bit, but
they've just not been able to find the range and
give Miami Tracey credit. Miller and Hammlon were the guys
knocking down the threes in the first sass, and they
haven't given you one of those guys. A lot of

(01:07:16):
good looks there. Chilicothy bought of the time out Miller
across the timeline. Chilicothy's gont have to go at a
little bit of pace here right side stone King, down
and down in the corner to Hammond, Ham and back
out to Miller. Swings it over to stone King. Against
this zone. The problem is the time starts to work
against you. If you take too long. Knocked out of bounds,

(01:07:40):
it'll be Chilicothe basketball right in front of their own bench.
Badgrill inbound again, Miami Trace stretched out in the big
two three zone with Guthrie right in the middle, Ham
and left side for three no good rebound Bowers. Chilicothy
tries the pressure in the back court left side, it's Robinette.

(01:08:03):
Robinette left baseline. Now pulls it back out, swings it
clear across court to sours again the size of Miami
trace just unbelievable. The sixth three to sixty three Sours
slashing to the goal, no good, pretty good inside position
there from Chila Coste. I think I got Robinette over
the top, so it's going to be a foul, just
the thirteenth foul, so no shooting opportunity. ChIL Cothee will

(01:08:27):
get the ball back, oh Runner four minutes down by eleven,
so well, one of these guys can knock down a
three here. Stone King thought about it on the right wing.
Now out top to him and back stone King on
the right side against Sours with that big six to
three length there, keeps making it tough for them to
get a good look. Now stone King will let one

(01:08:47):
fly from the right side. It's short offensive rebound cam Badger,
he puts it back in lead back to single digits
forty eight to thirty nine, three twenty eighth to play
Robinette against the trap, drops up bound, let's past the Sours.
Good box out there, Guthrie to the floor. They let
everything play on no call either way. You got one

(01:09:09):
Miller down on Guthrie and al Badrick gets back to
there and Guthrie just spends with an easy pivot and
lays it in. Adam Guthrie really starting to impact it
here in the second half. When you need it and
it's down, you go to Guphrie. He's pulled two every time.
Fifty thirty nine Miami Trace in the front. Pilicathe trying

(01:09:31):
to solve this zone and again the Lynx has him
out and Baker with a near stell and again pretty
good job of Miller stepping to the pass and that
contact draws the file. Liggan's going to return to the
line up here. It's stone King. We'll get my little

(01:09:51):
time out. Miami Trace leads at fifty thirty nine, two
fifty remaining in the game. Stay with us here, Shane
Holin and Drake Bigham. You're listening to Chilicoffee Boys basketball
on WBX.

Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
Welcome back to Miami Trace High School, Shane Holmes and
Greg big. I mean, it's just been a frustrating night
here for Chilicothee Cavaliers. And you know, Greg, you look
at the third quarter offense and it's kind of come
over to the fourth quarter. Just not much showing for Chilicoffee.
Three things have happened to the CAFs during the second half.
Number one, a three point line. They were six out
of thirteen second half, theyre zero for seven. They have

(01:10:54):
six turnovers in the first half. They've had eight, almost
all those in the third quarter and the third five.
Mister Guthrie, they when they've needed it, guys six seven. Uh,
he's an offensive you want offensive tackle probably, and they
just when he gets down under on the low block,
you can't stop him. And they whenever they needed a bucket,
Trace goes to Guthrie. That's when the other point is

(01:11:16):
out of the time out. Chili Cootie with the basketball
down eleven two forty two in counting they got to
go here a little bit left side. It's Miller. He
thought about a three, but again that length of the
zone extending out making it tough to give a look.
How it's Badger right side, swings it all the way
to left side. Ham It'll try a three. He got it,
so so a big time shot there. Andrew Hammond gets

(01:11:37):
to lead back to eight. ChIL Coffee still has time,
but they got to go right now with some defensive pressure.
Miller and Cox trying to trap Bowers in front of
the Miami Trace bench and Miami Trace throws it away.
So again that pressure needing a turnover, and they get one.
Two thirteen to go. Chili Cothe put the basketball back
down just eight. Miller across the timeline right side, Badger

(01:12:00):
out top hamm and Hammon's had the hot hand the night.
If they can get him free now, Badger will try
a three from the right side, and he got it.
Ham Badger, so Andrew Hammond the possession before Cam Badger
this time dials it up from long distance and all
of a sudden, great Juli Coffee within five fifty forty five,
two minutes to play. Who did Coach Pier called that

(01:12:22):
time out. I believe after the mat on the make.
So they made two threes in a row, and that's
my right for the fat lady just say so that's
not going to happen. So Calves give them credit. Two
big threes and all of a sudden they're right back
in and down five, and we still got over two
minutes to play. Where I'll give the Calves their biggest
start to night is the defensive effort. You know, it's

(01:12:42):
so easy when you go through these droughts on the
offensive end to quit on it. Their defense is not
like you said, Guthrie's talent is talent, but they have
competed hard on the defensive end. That time they get
the turnover, they come back and knock it down. And
here we are just a two possession game, fifty forty five.
So now, strategy, why you come out of the huddle,
Chilicothi's gonna, I'm sure apply some sort of full court pressure.

(01:13:05):
If you're Miami Trace. Let's see what they've used again.
They've used Guphrie a couple of times in the full
court to kind of relieve the pressure. You know, the
Caps will come out and yeah, and you you said
that earlier. Yeah, I mean Gusphrie's not how many points
of Guthries he passed twenty. Let's see he had eight
in the first half and then it goes ten, twelve,
fourteen to sixteen. But he's also provided a lot of assists.

(01:13:28):
Agree you said he's helped brings the ball because it's
a good matchup. Although now he's guarded by him in
full court man and they take Bowers long, Chillicothe loses
him and on the shot fake Ligan hurdled him and
Ligan cleared him. Bowers lays it in, so fifty two
forty five, and again we've got a thirty second time out,

(01:13:50):
so again we might as well stay here again. But
on the shore one that time they just got beat
off a little inbound where they went over the time.
All four guys up, they set affect through the ball
along the Carte remember Carte running the football. He jumped
over the defender and they didn't tackle him. Yeah, just
said the same thing in basketball. He jumping flow over
the top of the guy shooting the ball, but he
jumps a high didn't even boull him. Well, that's what

(01:14:12):
I was going to say. When Bowers shot pay. How
many times you see that where you you're afraid someone's
going to get hurt over the top. He literally hurdled
him and Bowers let him fly by and laid it in.
So not what Chilicoffee needed, but certainly one of the
more athletic things I've ever watched on the basketball court,
for sure. Coach I actually called that time out. I
think he wants to talk about defensively, going to put

(01:14:34):
some pressure on the didn't want to step back, maybe
give up another three. Got in the cocks here, one
fifty in counting chili coffee down seven, hand off to Hammon.
Yeah they are men. The man comes west side Badger.
That's one of the first times all night they've been
out of the zone. Hammon pops out. He's going to
try a three. No good rebound by Bowers and in

(01:14:54):
the freshman point guard does a really good job on
the defensive glass. He's trapped there. Gives way to Guthrie.
Guphree up the baker. Now up to Robinette. He drops
the bounce past the sours, nice the Sailors, and he
lays it in Night Night right. The ball movement. Great
job breaking the press. Miamis Trace fifty four forty five,
Miami Trace on top one seventeen. Badger down the middle,

(01:15:17):
kicks it out right side of him, and now Hammon
into the mid range jumper shot up. No good, Badger
competing hard for the loose ball. It's gonna get knocked
out of bounds by Miami trades. Certainly can't doubt cam
Badger's effort on the basketball court. He each compete's hard,
said he plays two inches to three or four inches.
Following he is over down five hour, back down by

(01:15:39):
nine four. Un ANSWER's got to get it in, throw
it away. Badger tries to get it in, throws it away.
I'll come sailors over left side Baker and now Chilicothie's
probably gonna have to foul Guphrie's got it out top
now without the slurs. We's gonna play keep away fours
down in the right corner out top to Guphree out
out the silure, and I think we're gonna have a file.

(01:16:02):
And that's only going to be the third team files.
It's gonna take two more of those to even get
Miami Trace to the line under a minute to play.
Stone King's gonna come back in Carte coming out, so
fifty one point nine. Again, Hulkathi just got three team files,
so they can they can be really really aggressive because

(01:16:24):
they're not the file anyway. But you might knock the
ball loose anymore in today's game, you don't know what
they'll call. What they want you as well, be real aggressive.
And now Chilkati yelling foul from the bench. They and
they do call it out time. That's the fourth file.
Next file is gonna send Miami trace to the line
to shoot two and they've only y're owed for two

(01:16:45):
Guthrie and miss both attempts. They've only shot two free throws.
Calves have only shot six and they're only one out
of six and the foul line. So he's a team
burning it up to Troviy tonight. That's right, they haven't
shot a lot. Robinette's gonna throw it in from the sideline.
Is it all the way into the post to guth three.
But Guthrie, with the time and score, chooses not to
go one on one and they'll throw up back out

(01:17:06):
and play some keep away And now Van Miller is
going to give a foul, and it looks like Sky
Salars will go to the line. Sky has eleven points
on the evening for Miami Trace, and he'll go to
the free throw line. Try to add to that. Been
a pretty balanced attack for Miami Trace. Guthrie and double

(01:17:26):
figure Siwars and double figures. He makes the first you
also have Baker and double figures. Make sure you stay
with us on the post game. We'll have these totals
for you. It's gonna take a full time out. We'll
take a break with them. Thirty six point nine Chilicoffee
trails by ten. Stay with us. You're listening to Chilicothee
Boys basketball in WBX.

Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
Welcome back to Miami Trace High School. It's been a
tough night for the Calves. They've continued to fight hard,
just offensively. Just had a tough third quarter to get
the ball to go in and got a little swappy
with it and as a result find themselves down fifty
five forty five. As we come out of the time out,
Sky Sours of Miami Trace will have one free throw remaining.

(01:18:40):
Teams breaks the huddle now and we'll talk about a
post games Shameldy. Calves are so both free so good,
so close in ways, you know, into these games. Meller
pushes it up for the Calves. They'll drive hard. Hill

(01:19:00):
gets to the middle and he's going to draw a
foul and he's going to go to the free throw line.
So clock stops at twenty eight point nine, fifty six
to forty five Miami Trace. One Miller have a couple
of free throws to try to push the lead back
under tenth. Bowers found coach act I'm not too happy
with him, and he had good defense, but he tried.

(01:19:20):
When he blocked the shot, he swung down and picked
up the foul and one's gonna make second foul shot
for the cavstut Miller makes the first gets another here
second shot up also good trim to lead the nine
fifty six forty seven Miami Trace and belnd to. Guthrie
goes across court to Baker Robin Att in the middle.

(01:19:44):
Now out the Boers. Miami Trace just going to play
keep away. Looks like Chilicothie is not going to file
seventeen seconds. I think Chili Cootie's just going to get him.
Let it run out. Guthrie holds it out by the
logo here near center court in ten nine eight, and
that's just going to ca on it down here and
the Miami Trace Panthers are going to move to two
and O and fac play while Chilicothee drops the one

(01:20:06):
and one. That's the Bazzer. Mimi Trace wins at fifty
six forty seven. Shane holds drag bighem. Stay with us
here on WBX. We'll be back with a Chilicothee Boys
basketball post game.

Welcome back, Shane Combs and Grake Big. I'm here Miami
Trace High School, where the calves come up on the
wrong side of a fifty six forty seven final. Take
you back through the game here a little bit. First quarter,
very competitive back and forth battle. Miami Trace led it
after one fifteen to twelve, and then in the second

(01:23:37):
quarter it was going to be a Miami Trace two
point advantage in Chilicothe had an opportunity to hold for
the last shot, maybe tie go in front. Nonetheless, only
be down two and they end up time and score
wise going a little early and they throw it away
and as a result on the other end, I thought
it was a tough call for the Calves, but nonetheless
they kind of did it to themselves. Looked like the

(01:23:58):
shot of Luke Armstrong was a little after the horn,
but nonetheless got counted for the three pointer. Miami Trace
led at thirty three twenty eight a halftime. The third quarter,
Chilicothy really struggled to come out and find some of
that same rhythm in the second half. Gregil highlight that
for you in his stats here in just a second.
But it just seemed like again the defensive effort was there.

(01:24:20):
They had a great defensive quarter, only giving up seven
Miami Trace points, but unfortunately could only score four themselves.
So Miami Trace extended the lead, but that was out too.
That was what five at halftime, and it was up
to eight by the end of the third quarter at
forty thirty two. Then in the fourth quarter, Chillicothe had
three straight possessions where they had cut the lead to six,

(01:24:43):
had great looks. I thought those were some of the
times they did execute some of the things they wanted,
just couldn't get the ball to go in. And then that,
like you like you'd assume with a defending champion Miami,
Trace capitalizes on those particular possessions. They pushed the lead
back to double digits. They go on to win fifty
six forty seven. So, Greg, I know we highlighted it
throughout the evening pretty accurately. I feel like, I'm sure

(01:25:05):
the numbers will tell some of the things, give us
some things to jump out each there. Well, number one
and I could have missed a shot or two, but
I had Chilicothe with eighteen peel Goald attempts from two
point range, and they had twenty three attempts from the
three point range. So I thought that, and you know,
Trace played his own. They had a lot of good looks.

(01:25:27):
It wasn't like we were thrown up threes. It was
part of the way. I thought, you're every day then
there's huge no, and it was. It was a part
of the It happened to be a part of the
way the game played out. I'm not getting on the
cast was shooting, but they were six or thirteen to
three point to first half. In the second half, they
were only two of ten in the second half, so
they didn't shoot the three quite as well.

Speaker 6 (01:25:47):
Overall.

Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
For the Cavaliers, I had them shooting forty one and
a half percent. They were seventeen to forty one. And
I had am made of twenty three from the three
point line thirty four percent on a horror and I
had the other key stats jumped down at you unofficially
at chilla Conthy with fifteen turnovers a lot there in
the third quarter. That hurts him a little bit. Miami

(01:26:09):
Trace winds up shooting over fifty percent on the night.
But when you're shooting a lot of layups inside with
mister Guthrie, I was a big part of it. They're
able to push it inside. He's not going to miss
too many from down under with his hype. But I
had them Miami trace twenty five or forty seven, just
over fifty percent at fifty three percent. Miami Trace three
out of ten from the three point line thirty percent.
So the Calves did outscore them by fifteen from the

(01:26:32):
three point line and I had Miami Trace eleven turnovers
to Chila Cothy's fifteen, So foul line not a real
big factor tonight a little bit for Chilla Cothy, Calves
wound up three of eight from the foul line. They're
going to have to do better than that. And Miami
Trace just went to the foul line four times May
two out of four. Well, let's look at some individual scoring.
We'll start on the winning side there Miami Trace. Adam

(01:26:55):
Guthrie their their six seven junior post player. He and
Julian Baker, the six to one sophomore both had sixteen
points to lead the way for Miami Trace. Then after that,
also in double figure sky Sours Siliers with thirteen two
for Bowers, three for Armstrong, two for Whittaker, and four

(01:27:15):
for Robinette. I would highlight I thought Gage Bowers played
far better than the two points. I thought he did
a good job as a freshman handling the ball. I
thought he defensive rebounded really well for Miami Trace as well.
Going over on the Chillicotie side, just four Cavaliers get
to the scoring column here this evening. Jan Miller with
thirteen Andrew Hammond had a team high sixteen. Actually the

(01:27:37):
game high there tied was as I said, with Baker
and Guthrie, he had sixteen. Thought he shot the ball
real well. Tonight, Cam Badger without standing effort down Low
had eleven. Cayden Cox didn't get a lot of shots
Tonight did score seven, and then the very talent of
Cooper stone King was shut out tonight. I thought that
was a big stat you know. I thought the length
of the zone made it tough for him to find

(01:27:57):
some spots on the line. So you add all that
up and it's up forty seven. I'm not sure if
we're going to get a chance to talk to coach
Beard or not. Why don't we take one more break,
Greg and then we'll see how it goes. If we
come back and talk to them, that'd be awesome. If not,
then we'll come back and wrap it up. But stay

Welcome back Here fourteen ninety WVX on the amside, ninety
two point seven FM, and worldwide on iHeart. The Chilicothee
Cavaliers fight hard tonight to come up short fifty six
forty seven Miami Trace wins it. The Panthers stay perfect.
They improved to five and oh overall two and oh
in the FAC and they will be back in action

(01:29:41):
Friday night as McLean will come calling in another FAC
battle for Chilicoffee. They dropped the two and four overall
one and one in FAC play. They'll come back on
the road this over this way on Friday night, Washington Courthouse.
So you know, Greg, I mean, it's it's been a
continued working progress, a lot of pause us for Chill
coylethe obviously tonight not what they wanted, kind of give

(01:30:04):
us closing thought here as we get out of here tonight,
great effort, never let up, a great job on that.
I think one of the things tonight that you know,
the matchup with you know, Captain Obvious. The matchup with
goutthree was tough, whether it was Badger trying to guard
him or later on that Are coming in as a
young sophomore to try to guard him and for a

(01:30:25):
while Carte Liggan. That was a tough matchup. But I
thought one of the things tonight and it'll be interesting
to see over the Christmas break in the next FAC
game coming up with Courthouse is with Daniel Sism out
until sometime in January, he's no longer on the team
right now. And as much as you first thought it was, oh,

(01:30:45):
you know, that's your big guy inside, but I think
the effect it had tonight, Shane, I think you'll agree
with me is the rotation, because it knocks a guy
off your rotation, and it forced the when the Cavs
had to make a substitution. You're talking about carte leg
and playing as a freshman, and then you're also talking
about Nola Netta as a young kid that's really not

(01:31:06):
grown into his body yet, who's very tall, but it's
very slender, and those guys had to, you know, you
got to bring them in to get some rotation because
otherwise you're playing five guys, whether they get tired of,
whether there's foul trouble, and that rotation for the Cavaliers,
I think is almost going to hurt them more than
not having Sism for a while. And I thought that

(01:31:27):
was a key tonight. Netdter and Lincoln are going to
get better too, very talented young men. But I also
think when you put those in and they've never hardly
played varsity and you put them in and they're going
up against Miami Trace and a guy like Guthrie and
their experience. I thought that rotation and going forward, that
rotation of losing sism and you're kind of down to

(01:31:50):
seven guys, that was huge tonight and I we'll see
how it plays out. If the Calves are able and practiced,
they're going to have to develop some more depth and
those guys are going to have to come on faster
than I think Coach Piared wanted him to. I think
that's a great point, and I do. I think sometimes
in the substitution pattern that that's very, very difficult. So
if we set the stage for Friday Cavalier fans here

(01:32:10):
on wb X, Clay and Tony, we'll make the trip
over here to Washington Courthouse to get Chila Coffee on
the air, because I'll be needed back closer to Chila Coffee.
On the WKKJ side, I'll be with Loop Hostage when
Zane Trace visits Juniota for what should be an outstanding
SBC match up, and then as always I'll make the
trip over to the station. I'll join Vanessa and Sydney

(01:32:31):
on the accurate Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing scoreboard show there
later on Friday night. Well, Greg, good to have you back.
I always enjoyed doing this with you. I'm sure we'll
be together plenty more down the road. Look forward to it.
I appreciate Vanessa back in the station the night, giving us,
giving us the great effort, and again Chila Cothie just
comes up short. So for Vanessa and for Greg, I'm

(01:32:51):
Shane Colmes final score for the final time, Chila Coffee
