Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the B ninety three Morning show. I'm Ali Max,
and I saw this, and this is a company called
Rent the Chicken.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
What it is.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
This was not founded in order to alleviate the current
situation with eggs and the prices and the Avian flu
and how you know we're dealing with that at the
grocery store right now. This company was actually founded in
twenty thirteen. And I saw this, and I was like,
what an idea. Rent the Chicken is letting people rent chickens,
feed and a coop so that you can get your

(00:32):
own eggs at home without the long term commitment of
buying your own chickens.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Outright, let's site Netflix with chickens, like subscribe to the Chicken.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah, it gets you eggs kind of. I mean you
got to do the work because you're renting the coop.
You're renting the chickens comes with feed and stuff, so
like you got to do the work. It's not like
you're just going to your local farm to buy this stuff.
Like this is if you want this on your own property,
which I have had a couple friends talk about, Like
I think this spring, I'm gonna get my own chickens.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
I thought people just said that like as like, uh,
I didn't think people really did it.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
I think people are really doing it.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Okay, are you gonna get a chicken?

Speaker 1 (01:13):
I mean no, because I where I'm zoned in my
in Grand Rapids, I don't think I can have them.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Oh I didn't know there was I know there was
no chicken zones. I thought you could just as long
as you have like a fenced in backyard.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yeah, if you're thinking about this, you got to make
sure that you're like it's it's okayed for like your
zone or whatever. But I thought I was like, there
is this like rent the chicken. This is this company
founded in twenty thirteen. Are they doing this in West Michigan. Oh,
they're doing it all over Michigan.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Of course.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
They have Grand Rapids, They've got Lancing, They've got Southwest
Michigan like by the Indiana border.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
They have Detroit, they have ann Arbor. And there are
two different places where you can get like chickens and
Grand Rapids Homestead Heather and Mike and also Hatch the
Chicken and and like rental packages start at four hundred
and ninety five dollars and with that you get delivery
and set up and also pick up. Of the contents,

(02:10):
you get two chicken egg laying hens, one standard chicken coop,
one water dish, one food dish, one hundred pounds of
chicken feed, and a quick guide for taking care of
your rent the chickens.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Chickens, I don't know. I've complained to my neighbors a
couple of times because his dog's uh he cleans up
his dog poop and leaves it out on the side
of his house. Yeah, So I feel like if I
got a chicken and it was making all this noise
and it would probably be a mess, I feel like
it would be way worse to that little bit of
dog poop that he leaves at the side of his house.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
These chicken coops are cute. They're pretty small because you know,
you're only getting two chickens with this, Okay, but like,
this is a thing that is actually happening. I would
be curious to know if anyone has read from Rent
the Chicken or the two like homestead Heather and Mic
or Hatch the Chicken.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, is it work? Is it worth it? Because to
me that sounds like a lot of work. Like again,
I barely like shoveling my driveway. I don't know that
I want to take care of a chicken, but I
do like eggs, yeah, and I do want to save
money on eggs.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
And they say that this could produce anywhere from eight
to fourteen eggs per week.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
This is happening here in Michigan.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Now, I don't know. It doesn't look like these chicken
coops are like insulated at all, so I don't know
how this works in the winter. This says rentals are
available April through October or May through November. So maybe
you got to return the stuff before the winter.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Oh that was my next quat do I So I
have to give the chicken back?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah, because you're renting it.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Okay, it's both.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
It's two chickens and you're just renting them, so they're
not yours to keep.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I would want to eat the chicken? What? Yeah? Why not?

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Because they're egg laying chickens. They're for eggs.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Oh that you can't eat those chickens.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
I mean you you're a free person, you can no
but I mean whatever you want. But you're renting them,
so they're not yours to own.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Okay, Okay, I just want to I don't know. I've
never rented a chicken before. I need to know what
what I'm what I'm getting into.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Good morning, be naughty three.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Who's this?

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Where are you from? Moran? This is Jeff from Holland.
What's up, Jeff? We were talking about You were talking
about the egg.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Price daughter, Earl's Meats and Holland to eighty nine a
dozen no limits.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Oh wow, that's a good shout. Thank you, Jeff. You
bet you have a great day. You too. Bye.
