Ursul Ellis, we'll talk about the horses, the people, and
the history of the thoroughbred industry, the way a secretary of.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
That wins the light.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Two and a half lights now live from Kentucky's Bluegrass region.
Here's Ursul.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Good morning, and we're lyve in the thor Bed Training
Center here on the Parish Lexington Road. Beautiful, beautiful day.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Dunning sunrise, sunrise, day morning was the whole sky. It
was his orange pink. It's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
John Nichols in his back. He paid. He went to
deal more to see all the Breeders' cup out there.
Lost a lot of money, but he bums some money
to fly home.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
I was able to scrape up a little bit and
they got me home. But it was a big time
out there. The crowds were great. The weather was perfect. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
What was like the temperature seventies or something?

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Yeah, it was it was, uh say, high forties in
the morning and and you know, go to the backside
and then by a race time it was in the sixties.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Oh, that is perfect.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
It was perfect. Yeah, no no rain and it was
just just right. And the racing, the racing was great,
and so it was. It was excellent.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Yeah, we watched for you you know there I am
you know, I don't know. Ten feet from the TV Squinton.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
The only white haired guy we could find out there.
That was Bafford.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
There there you go. You should have next to it.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
He's trying. He's tried to copy me. He wants to
look like me.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Yeah, that's that's well. Who doesn't, Oh yeah he can't can't.
Who'd been blaming?

Speaker 1 (04:50):
All right, that's great, that is great. So what when
did you get out there like Thursday or so.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
I got out there right Thursday, Wednesday night.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
And you know, the wonderful people at the Third Bread
Aftercare Alliance, Stacy clark Uh and her team just do
a great job and they're the ones that really make
the arrangements for myself. And when Michael can go with,
Michael goes and there's always a couple of races that

(05:22):
are for the benefit of Third Bread Aftercare, and Stacy's
very good to make sure that Old Friends is represented there.
And we've even had you know, we've had Old Friends
steak races, the Silver Charm Stakes down in Florida and
then and then a race last year at Pimlico where

(05:44):
if you win it then you you automatically you get
a free free home at Old Friends when you retire.
Automatic acceptance.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Well, you just got a horse that clified.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
We did, Yes, we did.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
Just just this week, we've had four or five horses
come in and I can't remember that, you know, Big
Brown has come in, but I can't remember if I've
been on the show since then, but I know Michael has.
So I mean, that's the It's an interesting thing, you
know when people say what new horses do you have
out there? Immediately? Yeah, well I heard Big Brown was there,

(06:21):
but we had in addition to Big Brown, it's like
the other end of the spectrum, we had Cosmic One
come in. Now you might say, well, who's Cosmic one.
Cosmic One was Zada's first full Oh yeah, yeah, And
so I mean Cosmic found a winter circle that hadn't

(06:42):
and and highly unlikely that he will. He raced, he
raised five times and I think you know, the four
of us here in the room could all run faster
than but but he is the funnest horse, and he
ended up being a really accomplished jumper. Oh yeah, so
he's he's he's got a lot that he can be

(07:03):
proud of. But you know, and and Holbrick Moss was
really has been a really good friend to old friends
over the years, and she wanted to be sure that
when the time came, the Cosmic One came to the
came to old friends, and so he was. He came
in I don't know, a couple of weeks ago, and

(07:24):
he's kind of taken over. I mean, he's got a
prime paddock space on the tour and he's just he
just loves people's great. Yeah, he's he's our guy. But
the point of all that is that there's you know,
there's the high and low. I mean there's that's not
to say that Cosmic wants low, but there's a story

(07:47):
behind every horse that comes to old friends, and sometimes
it's the story of Big Brown. You know, you know,
had eight starts, seven wins, Tucky Derby and the Preakness,
and you know, uh was one of those almost triple
Crown winners. And our good friend Andy Cohen, who's just
the best, was the leader of the ownership group and

(08:10):
he's just a superb human being, and he wanted to
make sure Big Brown in his golden years got all
the adoration that he that he deserved, and he really
hasn't received. You know, when you look at the achievements
of horses that are in the Hall of Fame and
then you compare that to Big Brown, he said, why

(08:31):
isn't that horse in the Hall of Fame?

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Yeah, you know, he got hurting the bill.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Might Yeah, they scratched him or he ran, but he didn't. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, he came out of the gate. Yeah I believed,
And they pulled him up right in front of the
stands and what's that boy's name was riding him? Got
up and held his leg up. Oh, yes, kid that
later on committed suicide.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Really yeah, Oh gosh, I didn't know that it was
a terrific rider.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
You had much prob't my kid this hormo? He was
his jockey song?

Speaker 2 (09:08):
No, no, no, no, I forget the kid's name now,
huh she was, Well, maybe I'm mixing him up with
somebody else, but I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
I know that because it's in my painting. But I'm
not sure that's Big Brown. I know what you're talking.
I picked his picked yeah, his leg up. Yeah, somebody
somebody call in and to remind me. But I know
what you're talking about, but I'm not I don't think
it was Big Brown.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Okay, huh, good man, I thought it was. He never
raised after the bellm did he? No? Well, I'm going
to stand on my bad memory.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
I'm talking about. Yeah, what they I will never never
bet against you. I will never. But you know, and
you know you mentioned getting horses that uh you know
have have end in the they win when they're in
that that that type thing. Noble drama has now arrived

(10:06):
at at old friends and he won the Silver Charm
stake at Tampa Bay.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Oh, that he gets that designation an old friend for life.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
And so the phone call came in. It's you know,
we're ready, old man, and you said, and but that's
you know that horse Noble Drama won eight hundred and
seventy six thousand dollars. Uh, you know, an accomplished horse.
Then we had who else, we we had mission mission

(10:38):
in in Passable came in and New York really successful
in the New York sire and he was the fun
thing about him was that he was fold across the
street at miss lines so he went farm.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Oh is that right? Yeah, well he really did.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Come on you get flatland although she brid him, but
he's not standing therevid.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
Oh that would be when the time comes, that would yeah,
that would be nice.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
You know, all that horse did was cross the road.
How about that?

Speaker 4 (11:08):
That's it exactly, It's real. It went around the world
to get you know, half half a block from where
it started. But we so we've you know that we've
got new horses coming in. The liney came in. Who
was Maggie Moss's horse one one point two million Greatest
Stakes winner arrived so so we've had you know, the

(11:32):
lineup continues to grow, and we've got just some just interesting,
interesting horses. But you know, when you look at the
lifetime earnings, you know, you get you know, several million
for Big Brown and you know, one point two million
for the liney in eight hundred thousand for this one
and that, and then you get to Cosmic one. It's

(11:53):
zero zero. But Cosmic one may be the one that
that lights up the room more than anybody.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah, that's just.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
Kind of that's the that's the fun of old friends.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Maybe he knows how lucky he is to be there.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Well, you know, that's I was thinking about that. When
they get there, they get so much attention. It's not
like they're turned out in the back forty somewhere with
a bunch of other horses. They get all that adoration
for crying out while they love it. That's just super duper.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
And they you're right, and they do love it, and
and they're and yes they are spoiled and spoiled rotten good.
But that's the whole plan. Yeah, you know, they they
work for us for a long time. Now we work
for them.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yeah, about who do you think is the oldest you've got.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Had krawan Uh it is thirty two. Wow, and hanging
in there, hanging in there. Yeah, he's in the barn
more than not now. But still I was visiting the
other day and still you know, still got the brightness
in his eyes. Yeah, you know. And then silver charming

(13:06):
touch golder right there right there behind him.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
How old they're thirty So they're going to be thirty
one and that person is going to be thirty three.

Speaker 6 (13:15):
R Wow.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
John Henry at the horse Park was thirty three. He
was just too honre to.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
Die, you know.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
He was just funny, just went and went.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
And well, that was a day. I'll never forget his
his funeral. We had you know, the governor, two governors
there and the former governor Collins came in and wow,
and you know Ron McNally and Chris McCarron and I don't.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Know who Bubba Snowden.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's great.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Bubba had him twice and yeah, and should I made money.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
On them both? Absolutely? That was well. There was probably
four or five hundred people out there for that.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Now. Is he buried at the horse.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Buried out there?

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Good?

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Uh, they've got a nice you know, that that whole
haul of champions has got a nice memorial you know,
Alix Sheeba's yeah, you know, I'm I'm gonna be careful
about who I'm forgetting, but but they there's it's a
nice memorial garden. In addition to the horses that live there.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, that's great. How many got out there? Wonder that?

Speaker 4 (14:25):
Well, the Stallion Barn has room for five there, so
that there's always at least five out there. And of
course the older friends. Michael's backyard, yes, has well over
ninety horses that are that have their tombstones that are
buried there. And then the more prominent cemetery at the front,

(14:47):
you know has you know, Charismatic and William blem and Unreal.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
I know you look at the names and going, good ness,
you know, that's just astonishing.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Well, since I've gotten back from California, when I was
out there, I was reminded that that we still the
word is, we're still gonna get silky Sullivan's.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Oh that's wonderful.

Speaker 7 (15:11):
And he took he's taking his time, and which is
the way he does. He'll tell me he'll finish strong.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yeah, well wait for that finish now, where will he
go in the one.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
He'll go right there by the gift shop house there, yeah,
in the in the front, and we'll have a you know,
a memorial thing for him too. What a great story
that'll be too.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Oh well, and you've got those setting up all those
video things. What a video he was. Yeah, I mean
he did so much for uh TV ratings because everybody
watched to see and then they'd had two cameras, one
on the field and one on Silky Sullivant. Oh that

(15:52):
was fun.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Yeah, that was fifty I think it was fifty fifty eight,
you know. But he won't be the he won't be
the oldest horse in the cemetery nor has been reinterreterred there.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yeah, and that was.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
The horse that beat citation, right Ursul's.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Yeah, I beat him four times.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
Yeah, which was nobody else did that?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Oh no, because that was the citation was past his
peak he had he didn't raise it for you know,
citation didn't there and then and uh and then they
brought him back because the connections wanted him to be
the first millionaire and so he was, you know, not

(16:35):
nearly the same horse as he was.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
That's right, I remember that now. But I've forgotten that
he was out his for the four year old campaign.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
He didn't go, did not raise. Yeah, yeah, and he
never was never a shame after that.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Somebody had that on television or something three or four
days ago about nor you know, and of course I
watched because I prayed at tension, because you stood one.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Season here in Kentucky who he did then went back
to California. I think he didn't make it.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
It's good now, well, that's really good that.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
You would have thought that when we first how long
has Michael been coming on this show?

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Now? How since he got here?

Speaker 4 (17:21):
Twenty years?

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Twenty years?

Speaker 1 (17:23):
He came in someone who we.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Had him over because we heard there was somebody interested
in you know, after care stuff like that. We had
him on and he came in.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Bill bandon door brought him in because we knew Bill.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Okay, God God bless you for that.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, anyway, he started coming on the show. Yeah, and
then how many years later we had to call him
up and see if he could take those two old
horses mine. Now I had reach, but Ursa wasn't getting
around anymore.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Now exactly, they're fine, that's see. And I go out
every Sunday, you know, here we are, they come over
and feed me, feed me. You know.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
Well yesterday, every Friday morning we have the farm crew
all gathers for a meeting and said, you know, what's
what do we let's all get on the same page.
And and topic number three was we got to make
sure we get we get the shed built.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Oh yeah, well he's looking old. Yeah, all of a
sudden he had a great summer. Yeah, but this is fault.
And then I talked to Marissa and he's got some
cushings now, so you know, that's that's what happened in
Huh's that's what I mean. I mean, he's really done

(18:43):
well for you know, and Marissa looks after him. Boy,
she doesn't miss a trick.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
She Oh. And you know we have these reports tells
how everybody's doing. And you know you just mentioned Bill,
he's a manager of one of our farms. Antonio was
another one that Marissa that really taking care too at
the Ashton Grove operation and in our new place at Hillcrest,
and boy, she just runs she can run down in

(19:08):
detail how every one of those horses, yeah, are doing.
And they're quirky, you know, their quirkiness and who likes
Sue and and that's a big part of this thing
that I didn't have an appreciation for it. So I
got there are the roommates, so the paddock mates and
who gets along and who doesn't.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, well we took come for sixteen years together together,
you know.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
Well that was an easy one.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
It was interesting when when we were making the deal
to get Big Brown from New York to here. Yeah,
and I talked to the manager up there and my goodness,
you know, we're on the phone for forty five minutes
talking about all the Now Big Brown he didn't like this,
and he doesn't care for this, and he should never
have this and that and the big, the big rule.

(20:00):
The first commandment was that that Big Brown and Bellamy
Road do not like each other and have not for
a long time. And Bellamy Road was right there in
the paddock number one. Yeah, And they said, well, that's
not going to do because it's just the sight of
Bellamy Road sets Big Brown. And so we had to

(20:24):
we had to rearrange the entire deal. And to this day,
right as we speak, and I hope he's not listening
that that he doesn't know that Bellamy Road is there.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Oh yeah, that's that. I wonder why he hates them.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
Well, stallions, I think stallions on the same farm and
big browns in alpha.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
And oh yeah, well let me what how old are they?

Speaker 4 (20:56):
How old is folding the five? Uh so nineteen.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Amazing? I just that's real interesting. They remember so much
more than anybody gives them credit for.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
Oh, you're absolutely right, and you know that they have
great memories. And on the farm they know who the
treat givers are, you know. And we have some that
can be biers but won't bite. Michael's got you know,
Michael's he doesn't get bit very often because he's you know,

(21:31):
he's captain treat you know. Yeah, and what was the
other day? He has figured out the sweet spot where
I'll have another likes to be scratched on his back
and that is really funny because you know, I'll have
another is another stallion acting horse? Yeah, but then when

(21:52):
you scratch him in the right spot there, he turns
his head up and yeah, grins and.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah, puts his lip up and he does yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
Yeah, it becomes a big baby.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Oh I love it. It's just so how long did
the tours take now? For crying out loud an.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Hour and a half. We'll get your money's worth get
your money. As a matter of fact, we're going to
be meeting uh in a week where we're gonna be
planning on expanding the tours. We were just sold out
this summer and so but we're gonna need some and
I'm sending the word out we're gonna need volunteers.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Now they start up at the office, Yes, and they
go down and they go around. Now do they go
to the barn Ebratt Crombie Center.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Yes, the Josephine Abercrombie Center. And it's it's like halfway
during the tour, it's oh, is that what that is?
And so you see the see the video there that
shows the stretch runs of and we're gonna have to
update because we don't have Big Brown in there. But
the stretch runs of our high profile are Derby winners.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Whoa.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
And it's exciting because it's just good to remind people
these are sweet, fun old horses now, but they were
the highest toned athletes in the world.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Sure not that long ago.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
And so when you're feeding the care to this horse,
you need to remember that this horse won in front
of one hundred and fifty thousand people and the first
Saturday in May, and that you.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
Know, Yeah, they're real heroes, the real.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
Toast of the toast of the world. And speaking of that,
I better before I go on too much farther This
week at Old Friends visiting Michael was the Great Joey Bocan,
the proprietor and owner of the Washington Saratoga.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Yes, I knew, I knew that name.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
We sent, we send the message out across the world
and all the ships could sea that the birthplace of
Old Friends was the porch at the Washington End. And
the Catholics have the Vatican, and the Jewish people have
the Whaling Wall, the Muslims have the Mecca. Old Friends
has the porch at Washington Saratoga. And our great friend

(24:12):
Joe Bogan was a part of that.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Yeah, he's been on the show, he's been in here
a couple of times. He's a nice guy.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
Oh absolutely, Yeah, I got a great guy. And he's
got a great family. His sister Patricia uh looked after
me when I was up there recently. And it's it's
just the breakfast at the Washington End during Saratoga is
kind of magical. Everybody comes down and you know, they're
all excited about what's going to happen that day. And

(24:39):
then of course the cocktail hour at nights, where everybody
comes and is displeased about how much money lost.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
They cry at trying hour.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
But it's just it's just a wonderful atmosphere.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
Well, I've got a question behind ever CRUMBI Center, whatever
it is up the hill, kind of do the tours
go up there behind there? Now?

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Yes, the most recent rearrangement has, for example, touch Gold
is just beyond there.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Yeah, I'm trying to think, who now do you walk
or do you.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
If you can walk, you walk? But we have I'm
pleased we juiced up our golf cart that we've got
a lot of nice six seater golf carts. Oh, if
you're if walking is a little hard for you, and
the best thing to do is let us know in advance, right,
and we can even have if it's you know that
more of an elderly group, we can have two golf

(25:36):
carts out there.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
I'm wonderful Now when you go around there and come down,
I've always wondered when I drive by, if you head
down toward the Interstate. Is that paved so you can
drive down there yet or not? Are you gravel It's graveled,
so you can go down there.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
I can you go down there? You know? We we
have a mayor paddock which is six or seven mayors
back back there, and there's you know, some good horses
there too. And yeah, and you can take one of
the tours we offer is every Horse on the Farm
tour and that's like it, that's more than that's two
and a half hours.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
But but Laura Battles is amazing and she can do
what I'm not even sure Michael could do, and that's
give you a tour and point out in every paddock,
every horse and tell the story.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
It's an amazing thing. And and she does that tour
once every couple of weeks or so, and it's it's
booked up.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
I bet you. Yeah, Wow, that is That is right,
because I was thinking, surely you just didn't go up
and around. You go everywhere exactly.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
And each tour guide is different, which I like, Yeah,
everybody's got a different personality and they have the tour
guides have their favorites and and they'll they'll spend more
time on this one than that one, and they all
and I think that's kind of the magic of it.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Yeah, that is so good. I can't believe it's evolved
into that.

Speaker 7 (27:08):
Wow, what do you think they'll feta and it was
going to be horse of you, wouldn't you think so?

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah, we bet you early on. Yeah, uh yeah, I
would think she would be horse at.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
You, I would think. So that's everybody was talking about
that that and and I think that was kind of
the consensus. There was a lot of happiness that Sierra
Leone kind of is kind of revived, you know.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
Yeah, you know if he'd been one of those always
coming and they ever got there.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
Yeah, he finally got there and got the right.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Wow. What was the most exciting race?

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Well, I think that the U Juvenile with with when
Baffert had the two horses in and the one that
one was was not the favorite, right, and so that
owner group and there were a thousand of them I've
never seen take. It was funny to watch the security
people at the at the Winter Circle. They were up,

(28:09):
they were all upset. Yeah, just as soon as somebody
came in and they thought that was it, then a
whole six more would would.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Come Oh, that's just a test.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
That's such a great thing for racing.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Yes, I think so too.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
My where I was hanging out the you know, the
credentials allowed me to go to the owners and trainers
and closure on the track, you know, which is where
they go. Yeah, and you never saw such an assortment
of people that were owners.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
You could tell the ones that had been owners for
you know, their families had been owners for years, you
could tell them. And then you could tell the ones
that were brand new owners. Yes, and they were just
giddy and excited and had their families with them, and
it was you know, it's just a good thing for racing.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
Yeah, they've got another one out now. I think most
of it sold. It's a baffort that they're selling. And
I think it went pretty claric because I think I
saw the other day there's like two or three or
five more or less.

Speaker 4 (29:11):
Yeah, with my racehorse group.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's just it's super We have two.
One of them is in training to be a jumper.
So that one didn't do so good. We had an
end of mischief and what was he? What's the other one?
The one broke his maiden straight maiden one thirty two thousand,

(29:34):
but I don't know. I hadn't done all that good
since you know, you never know. Huh.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
He's one sense he has that he was by the
Belmont Steaks when stood here next door.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
I can't it's a name. One of those names doesn't stick.
But he's very famous and he's a big deal. But
what we did, and I think this is fun if
you're looking for a present, unusual Christmas present. See, we
bought two, one for Patrick and one for Esther. Oh okay,
so they send the stuff to us and we forward it.

(30:09):
You know. So the one that's a jumper and all
that jazz, he's somewhere near us, and I always thought
that would be fun. They come home, you want to
go over and see your horse. So Patrick was funny.
There was a thirty two thousand dollars perse and on
that the one that did well his first time out.

(30:31):
And Patrick said, what what do you think I get?
I said, probably three dollars and twenty cents. He said, well,
I want my three dollars. So that but what a
don't you think that's a cool idea for a Christmas present?

Speaker 4 (30:47):
I think that's a brilliant idea.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
I think it's creates fans, creates fans and you ain't
gonna find anything more unusual than that. And I think
it's just too cool.

Speaker 4 (30:59):
Uh helped accentuate that whole problem.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
Yeah, yeah, oh guy, we were we.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Were at the at the at Pemlical for.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
All that, I think.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
So, yeah, there was an army of people came into
that winter.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
So she had a Belmont.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Winner too, and one of them is going to one
of them is gonna stand at gains Way and she
will get six hundred bucks. Oh, she will get six
hundreds pay off on that. Who is it.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
Rights and everything?

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Yeah, yeah, there the money on the thing. Yeah, it's fun.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
I would I wouldn't count on it, but you know.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
I wouldn't from my retirement that one movie he would
have depended on. But it's just wonderful. I don't know
who came up with that idea. I think it was
somebody that's been thrift because that was where the first
started out and that's where we bought ours. And I
mean it's for real, it's sec you know. Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:05):
That was part of the difficulty was getting it. The
legitimacy of it. Yeah, sut up and all the protections
for people, and I am hopeful that we can have
an arrangement, you know, a partnership with him at Old
Friends because we had you know, twenty and thirty thousand
tourists every year and people get enamored with this world,

(32:30):
and it asked, well how can I get involved? Well,
that's an excellent way to get involved. Yeah, you know,
it's a good way.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Now. Michael did that several several years ago. He would
sell shares and we still do that. Oh it's still
one hundred bucks.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Yes, you can buy shares and silver.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Charm and yeah, we had a couple of way back
plan I don't remember remember we did that. So how
would you do it? Now?

Speaker 4 (32:58):
Go to our website, Old Friends Equine dot org. Yeah,
and there's a thing you click on. It says the
sponsorship of or ownership of a horse.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
That's a good idea, So you can.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
Investment is doubtful, Yeah right, it is a it's a
charitable you'll get the tax right off in that, but
you get a wonderful certificate that says that you are
you're looking after whoever you want to look after.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
Yeah, oh that's so nice. I think that's super duper well,
what have you got coming up now? But the breeders'
cups over.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
Oh, they'll be exciting things for you know next year.
I was hitting at you know, we're going to expand
our tours. But you know, one little one thing that's
that's fun. There's an increasing amount of people who really
like our merchandise, you know, with our mark on it.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Yeah, that's nice.

Speaker 4 (33:58):
Your shirt you've got a blue and a quarter zip
with the old Friend's logo. Yeah, and that's and so
we're gonna be doing more and more with with that.
But our friends at Ashton Grove, the wonderful retirement community
in Georgetown, they're actually on Friday, this upcoming Friday, at
one thirty they're bringing there. We're gonna have like a

(34:21):
gift market, like anybody can. It's gonna like move our
gift shop there, and so the folks that live there, yes,
can come and purchase some things Christmas presents.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
That's what I was thinking.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
Yeah, and and but then anybody can come to that.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Oh that's a good one.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
Yeah, So we're gonna we're gonna So that's at one
thirty at Ashton Grove, which is such a beautiful facility.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
How do you get there, you go on across from Krogers.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
It's across from kroger is the best way to way
to say it in Georgetown.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Yeah, across the bypass.

Speaker 4 (34:53):
Yeah, you're coming in from Lexington. It's easy. It's you
just drive in like you're coming in and you take
the first big left turn and then take another left
and you're at Ashton Grove. Yeah, and that's where I think.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
I think there's a sign now that I think of it,
there is, Yes, there is where to turn in, like yeah,
on the backpass.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Do huh it does not face on.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
The right kind of Well, you have to wine's in there,
so you don't really you see the sign, but you
don't really see those.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
Yeah, you have to drive in.

Speaker 4 (35:27):
Yeah, we're just building they have and all the cottages
and our beautiful horse farm there.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
Yeah, that's wonderful. I just I see it all the
time when we go to Kroger's.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
You know, my man tells me I've got to go
to work.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Well, thank you for coming in.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
And that was fun, always fun and always it's always
good to see you. And I'll say I'll go back
out and say hello to Tubby and Major for you wonderful.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
You say hello to Tubby and Major. Major had an
aged a bit, but you know he's thirty.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
Well, both of them look good today because it's just beautiful.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
Yeah, what's good to see you. Thanks for coming in
as always.

Speaker 2 (36:11):

We have a great friend with all sorts of connections
to own friends and her u. We call her Texas Terry.
She lives in Fort Worth and we hear from her.
She knows her stuff. I just got to know. The
jockey was Chris Antley. The horse that pulled up in

(40:05):
the Belmont was charismatic. All right, she knows her stuff. Now,
I got to tell you about her. She's wonderful. She
Monday is.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Can't the road boat?

Speaker 4 (40:17):
Yeah? Big, go ahead, Okay.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Anyway, Monday. She's a veteran and in her retirement what
she does is voluntarily she drives horse whatever it is,
dogs and cats all over Texas and Oklahoma and all
around there from one you know, yes, finding them homes

(40:47):
and a lot of times if a dog has stayed
at a certain place and nobody is interested, they'll move
it to a different shelter. And she does that all
the time. And we met her at old Friends and
that's that connection. That was fun. And we hear from

(41:07):
her all the time. She's a great friend. She sends
Betsy's stuff on her birthday. She's got a yellow rosen
Texas and a girl and all this wonderful stuff. So anyway,
Monday is Veteran's Day. Yeah, and so what do you get?

(41:29):
Congratulations and you got to come home. That's how to
do it. But anyway, they're going to have a big parade.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
Now I love this part.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
Huh oh. Look, go on, you can go, you can go.
You go to Fort Work anyway, she said, their Veterans
Day parade and Fort Worths on Monday. She's in charge.
She's just so pleased with this. In charge of all
equine entry every year, and this year it includes the

(42:04):
first cavalry horse detachment from Fort Hood. Now isn't that cool?
I think that's that's really neat her being a veteran
and everything. And now anyway, I just congratulations. I think
they picked a winner. So talk to you soon. Hopefully
she's going to try to come up in the spring. Yeah,

(42:27):
it's great, great Texas terry.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
All right. Well, they were in two graded stakes for
two year olds last Sunday, Woodbine and Ashwood stood staying
inside the winners of both of them. The Grade three
Mazarine stakes was won by something about Something in a

twenty leading sires of twenty twenty four. No other stood

of course Uncle mob in twenty twenty four or fourteen
States Winderings. He had another States winner yesterday. Anyway, he
sided to those were Grade one. His most recent stakes
winner was but Friday last night, of which I'm going
to give the winner that few minutes in here anyway

You know every sales halter out there came from Quilling,
I'm telling you. And they have so many. You got
a horse, crazy young girl, get them a bracelet and nameplate.
That kind of stuff's fun. It's beautiful in that store, huh.

(46:06):
Can't you know? Besides all the horse stuff, they have
lots of fun gifts and great stuff. So check them out.
You can either go online or you can go downtown
to the store. It's Quilling q U I L l
I N dot com in Paris ninety eight seven, which

(46:26):
is most of Paris nine eight seven oh two one five.

Speaker 3 (46:32):
All right, now back to Horsetails with ursul Ellis.

Speaker 2 (46:39):
Okay, well, let's see what are some of the stakes.
Wress has been run today and aqueductally running of red
Smith Steaks. It's a grade three. Red Smith was a
very prominent and newspaper man, sports writer, sports writer.

Speaker 1 (47:03):
Did he do other sports or mostly race?

Speaker 2 (47:05):
He did everything baseball, football, you know. And he was
a great friend of Joe Palmer as a matter of Yeah.
And he wrote a column and I want to read
later on. I don't have time to read it this morning.
I don't think. Well, I probably could. Should I go

(47:27):
on and just do that?

Speaker 3 (47:28):
Now?

Speaker 4 (47:29):
Do it? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (47:32):
Okay, this was written, well, this is pretty good. It's
got some bad language in it, but ah no, it's
called a very pious story. At the Derby Walter Height,
a well fed Arthur from Washington told it this way.
There was this horse player and he can't win a bit.

(47:53):
He's got patches in his pants from the way odds
on favorites run up the alley when he's backing them,
and the slump goes on until he's utterly desperate. He's
ready to listen to any advice from a friend. And
the advice was, no one, you don't have any love,
You don't live right, No buck got to do any good.
The way you live why you don't even go to church,

(48:14):
Why don't you get yourself straightened out and try to
be a decent citizen and just see if things don't
get a little better for you. Now that the guy
had never exactly liked to bother heaven with his troubles,
isn't even sure whether the horse racing is up there,
and would understand his difficulties. But he's reached the state

(48:37):
where steps simply had to be taken. So the next day,
being Sunday, he goes to church and sits attentively through
the whole service, joins in to him singing and says
amen at the right times, and puts his buck on
a collection plate. All that night he lies awake waiting
for a sign that things are going to get better.
Nothing happens. Next day he gets up and go to

(49:00):
the track, but this time he doesn't even buy a
racing form or scratch sheet or Jack's green card or anything,
just gets his program and sits in the stand, studying
the field for the first race, waiting for a sign.
No one comes, so he passes up the race. He
waits for the second race and concentrates on the names
of the horses for that one, and again there's no inspiration,

(49:24):
so again he doesn't bet. Then when he's looking at
him over for the third something seems to tell him
to bet on a horse number four. Lord, I'll do it,
he says. He goes down and puts up his last
fifty dollars and he'll ever be able to bar on
number four to win. Then he goes back to his
seat and waits until the horses come out into the track.

(49:46):
Number four is a little fractions in the parade, and
the guy says, Lord, please quiet him down, don't let
him get himself hurt. The horse settles down immediately and
walks calmly into the starting game. Thank you, lord, says
the guy. Now, please get him off clean. He doesn't
even have to break on top, but get him away
safe without getting slammed or anything.

Speaker 4 (50:08):
Please.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
The gate opens open, and number four is off well,
close up in fifth place and saving ground to the
first term. There he begins to move up a trifle
on the rail and for an instid it says, though
he might be in close quarters, let him through, Lord,
The guy says, please make them horses open up just
a little bit, and the horse's head moves out just

(50:32):
enough to let number four through safely. Thank you, lord,
says the guy. But let's not have no more trouble
like that, and the boy take him outside sure enough.
As they go down the backstretch, the jockey steers number
four outside. Where's lee in four? You're going to the
far turn. When the guy gets agitated. Don't let that

(50:52):
boy use that up that horse, he says, let this kid,
don't let this kid get panicked. Lord, tell him to
rake the horse a while. The rider down and takes
a couple of wraps on the horse and keeps him
running kind just cooking on the outside around the turn,
wheeling into the stretch. Number four still then forth, Now Lord,
the guy says, now we move, Tell that kid to

(51:13):
go to the stick. And the boy outs with his
bat and his ted Adkins said, he really scrounded the horse.
Number four lages ears back and gets to running. He's
up to third. He closes his gap ahead, and now
he's leaped on the second horse, and now he's had
his throat latched, and now he's past him. He's moving
on the leader, and everything behind him is good and cooked.

(51:34):
He closed his ground stride by stride, with the boy
working on him for all his worth. And the kid
up front putting his horse in the drive. Please Lord,
the guy says, let him get out in front. Give
me one call on top of an end. Anyway, That

(51:56):
was Red Smith. Where are we? Anyway?

Speaker 4 (52:00):
Lived a lot longer than Joe died.

Speaker 2 (52:04):
You weren't that. Joe was forty nine when he died. Yeah,
and he wrote a h old bed Army members.

Speaker 4 (52:13):
Wonderful?

Speaker 2 (52:14):
Was wonderful? Yeah? Vote yeah the next morning. Yeah, you know, yeah.

Speaker 1 (52:21):
They don't have anybody like that anymore. Nobody liked that.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
Yeah, Okay, I've got to do Spencery Farmer, Citizen Bull,
one of the great one breeders, cut jubil and Grade
one American Pharaoh states at Santa Neiso's by any minichief
from his odds on to be crowned Champion two year
old Colt of the Year, A six hundred and seventy
five thousand war the graduate of Keenan September sales. He's
already earned over me in three hundred thousand. Congratulations to

(52:47):
his breeders Robert and Lawana Lowe. In the midstip of
rank number one on the North American Stylist. He did
sure to do it at six years in the row,
he's led. Now let me call your attention to another
stay over spendful of farms to tracking the notice of breeders,
and that's Jackie's Warrior. His first cop weanings sold for
two fifty two hundred and fifteen thousand, two hundred and

(53:09):
ten thousand, two hundred thousand, two hundred thousand of the
phaseI tipped and sale. Stunning. Individuals then considered that he
was the nation's third ranked freshman sire. Freshman covering sire
in twenty twenty three won twenty three mayors in fol
to him so for an average of over one hundred
and ninety one thousand dollars. Jakis Warrior compiled a brilliant
racing career. He won Grade one stakes at two that

(53:33):
was a Champagne and the hopeful. He won Grade one
stakes again at a three to zero and was voted Championsprinter.
He added two more Grade one stakes at four and
compiled earnings of two million, nine hundred and fifty nine thousand,
one hundred and sixty four dollars. They're having breeders inspection
of their stallions. Over spend three fireman during the sale

(53:54):
one to three every day one to three. So go
take a look at Jackie's Warrior and the new days.
There's some new ones over there. Maybe you could see
forty Arabia line and Kingsbarns and the nation's leading sire
of two year old winners?

Speaker 6 (54:08):
Is there?

Speaker 2 (54:08):
Two year old winners? And that's Facomo who's got I
think it's thirty one. They went in so fast they
can't keep up with him anyway. For more details, called
is Brian and Mark or Daniel at eight five nine,
two nine four years your thirty and the website is
Spencerfarm dot com.

Speaker 1 (54:25):
All right, let me say a few words about ever
good friend, good guy. He'll Parker, He'll Parker's with Lexhorsefarms
dot com. He all is a two parter. He is
a certified realtor. He knows all the zoning laws and

(54:45):
all the ins and outs of all that. I mean,
he death knows it front to back. And uh, what
makes him really unique and special about all this stuff?
He is a has tons of experience in the horse business.
He's a license horse trainer in eleven States. Years of

(55:09):
experience with all kind of any kind of horse that
wears a flat saddle. I don't know that he's ever
barrel raised, but I'm sure he could if he wanted to.
But anyway, he really knows both sides. So if you're
looking for a horse farm, either from scratch, like you

(55:33):
buy a cattle farm and fix it, or you're buying
one that's been there or whatever you're doing, he's your
guy because he understands both parts of it. He knows
where you can build, how you can build, what about utilities,
what about roads, what about barns and everything? He knows
the right questions because what you're gonna do with a

(55:56):
horse has everything to do with where you're going to
put a barn, where you're gonna put a fence and
a road, and on and on and on. He's been there,
he's done that, He's solved all those problems before. So
I mean, it's just it's just there. You are. You
want to do it, You want to do it right.

(56:16):
You don't want to put that kind of money in
something where you have to wean somebody three quarters of
a mile, you know, to get them field wings. You
have to understand all this stuff. You've had to be
in there, done that, and that's Hill Parker period. Yeah,
he's just terrific.

Speaker 4 (56:37):
And if you go to.

Speaker 1 (56:40):
Lexhorsefarms dot com you can website website, Yeah, and you can.
They've got pictures, they've got new properties, you know, and
they pretty much cover central Kentucky, you know, Madison County,
and Bourbon's got wood Ford general. He knows his way around.

(57:03):
So anyway, highly recommend it. Really super guy.

Speaker 2 (57:07):
That's a Hill and Reagan Parker lovely people, nice people.
You won't run across anybody nicer than they are. Yeah,
we're working the harder for you.

Speaker 1 (57:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (57:18):
They really have been good friends to us and have
helped us in the past, and yeah, I recommend them
for everything. Then. Anyway, their website is Alex horse Farms
dot com and it's a good one. And Hill Parker's
cell phone is eighty five nine of course six year

(57:40):
oh eight eight zo three nine. Great people.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
Great people.

Speaker 3 (57:47):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and ursul ellis okay.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
That the red Smith station today. Let me him say
something about that, because I've got it right in front
of him. I was going to do that before, but anyway,
it was it's a Grade two three hundred do dollars
steaks up at Aqueduct and goes off with three forty
eastern center time. It's got a field of nine in there.

(58:18):
Curbstone is on the rail. Integration is number two, Pioneering Spirit,
it's number three. He's my American Faarah, very nice horse,
good stud horse over at Triple Grand winner of course
over at Ashwardston City Man is number four. Limited liability

(58:40):
at Hambo and Irish Bread don't masterpiece folding chili in
on outside rebel red fold in Great Britain and anyway,
that's that's the Red Smith. Good morning, James, James, James
Scully just came in. He took off last week. The

(59:01):
vote full time to the breeders. Got let me get
Spencer Eddris stood by the way. Did I do the
dre already?

Speaker 6 (59:10):
I did not?

Speaker 2 (59:10):
No, it's top of the hour, Hi, Betsy, who top
of the hour?

Speaker 1 (59:15):
Smith's that huh huh.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
Let me do this and then we're going to get
James on. I got a question for him right off,
right up front. Well stunner win in November two of
the one hundred and fifty thousand tempt at Stix out
of Belmont at the Big Ad to you, old Philipp
Gervin Gervin stands over to Drew Studd and she was
a green second and her first start up at Saratogum,

(59:39):
but she won her second by six and a quarter
links at Belmont at the Big Eight, and then the
tempt at Stakes one night by three and a half
links laid all the way and both of them. Stunner
is the nineteenth twenty twenty four stakes winning bread by
Burton C. Jones founder edrews Stood and the nation's leading
breeder of twenty twenty four stakes winners, the raised in
leading in all North America. She is also one of

(01:00:02):
thirteen steaks winners twenty steak saucers by Gervin, siring his
first two cops of the likes of Grade one winner
Phaser who earned six hundred and seventy two thousand, Grade
two winner Damon's Mouth winner of six hundred and seventy
seven thousand, Grade one winner No Dwarf Vader a Winter
of three Steaks second and the Grade one Acorn and

(01:00:23):
Triple Stakes winner and Trade Grade one plays close the
game Sugar earned almost six hundred thousand. Then I thought
this was in her devious name. One ass Tory Steaks
Gervin from the famed Stormcat. Sirilime won the Grade one
Haskell Invitations Grade to Louisiana Derby and the Grade two
Rision Star. He earned a million six hundred and twenty

(01:00:43):
four thousand. His dame is Catch the Moon by Malibu
Moon Cats. The Moon produced four steaks winners, all four
graded stakes winners, two of them millionaires. It's a great family.
For more on the stands over Edrizard called Shannon A.
Kyle eight five, nine eighty seven, three seventy two seventy
twkes to good a website which is drew stood dot com.

(01:01:04):
And now we're hit with us. Mister James Scunny from
blood Stuff Research Information Services, how are you dreams.

Speaker 6 (01:01:10):
I'm doing good. Yeah, you were just talking about Gervin
and a stunner. That's one of the three recent stakes
winning two year old phillies for Bret Cox. Of course
he had Immersive who won the Spinaway, the AlSi Bidies
and the Breeders Cup Juvenile Phillies, and she'll be champion.
But he also has good cheer, won the Recks of
the Riches on the opening weekend at Churchill and be

(01:01:32):
pointing for the Golden Rod. And he's got Stunner. Stunner
ran first time out on the day before the Traverse
since she ran into Senza Parole, who was an absolute
monster and unfortunately got hurt before the frazette and sidelined.
But she would have been the horse to beat in
the juvenile Phillies. But after running second to Stunner, it's

(01:01:53):
the favorite then, I mean, after running second to Senza
Parole as the favorite on her came back, Broker made
him by like six lens and then won that great
three tempted by three and a half. So she's a
real promising two year old Philly. And yeah, the Breeders
Cup was last weekend. Along with Immersive. We had Citizen
Bull when the Breeders Cup Juvenile for Baffort, Well, yeah,

(01:02:17):
he sure was. Of course, the race complexion changed when
East Avenue blew the break from the rail because he
would have shown speed, but he still got to give
Citizen Bull a lot of credit. Just was the fact
with that other horse not breaking, the pace was pretty
modern and he controlled it and they sort of ran
one two the whole way, but it was a fast race,
so and his only loss came when they took him

(01:02:39):
pretty far off the pace. I don't think his other
three wins have come wire to wire, but I don't
think he has to be on the lead. He's not
like this true like Speedball, but he wants to be prominent,
and he's very promising moving for Bread the run all
day and a very nice winner Citizen Bowl. The other
two turf races late Victoria one of Coolmore's best one

(01:03:02):
on or They had three other turf races Friday and
Henry Matiz and then on Saturday in the Classic. I
thought that was a great race. Sierra Leone really put
it all together. He ran straight. You know, I thought
that being drawn inside unless you had speed was a
potential negative on both the main in routes not sprints,

(01:03:25):
and both the turf and the dirt. And you know,
horse like forever young, I didn't think he had the
best of trips on the rail. Sierra Leones in post
eleven he went widest of all the entire way, but
never had a straw in his path and ran a
huge race and race of his career. And it really
boats well because one takeaway from the Breeders' Cup is

(01:03:47):
looks like all fourteen winners plus fierceness. You ran second,
and others are all coming back next year, going to
have Sierra Leone and Fierceness, two really good older handicapped horses,
and then you're gonna have other ones out there like
mind Frame and Mystic Dan are coming back and others
as well, and then uh, Torpedo Anna as well. I mean,

(01:04:10):
Pete said after her distaff win, and believe me, she
had a real long season and she looked awesome and
one easy, but Oliver remain rivals scratched out of that race.
I mean that race lost the dare manner, idiomatic and
an awesome result. And those were the three other Yeah,
they would have all been the second, third and four.

Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
She got a shot, a good shot of being horses.

Speaker 6 (01:04:31):
Oh, she's an absolute lock because there's just not an alternative.
You know, there's gonna be some there's always these like traditionalists,
the small sub sect of them that are like Phillies
have to be males to be horse of the year.
But uh, and generally I'll agree with that if you
have a viable alternative. But to me, here Leone's gonna

(01:04:54):
eke out three year old champ over like Fierceness and
even Dornick. You know, I know dorn Gloss his last race,
but you know he wins the Belmont and Haskell, you know,
you're looking at it. And Sierra Leone, Fierceness and Dornick
all have three Grade one wins and the only one
that won a classic race was Dornick, you know, but

(01:05:16):
winn in a Breeders' Cup Classic that was the biggest
race of all and the big decider for Sierra Leone
for champion three year old. So even Chad Brown, they
asked him in the press conference about Horse of the
Year and he was like, I don't see how you
don't give it to Torpede, And I mean she won
all year long, and she ran incredible in her loan
defeat and she out finished Sierra Leone and the Travers

(01:05:39):
he was third and she was second and by a
wide margin. So yeah, it's gonna be her and she
deserves it. And then she's going to come back next year.
I mean, Pete said, you know, right now he's looking
at just running against billies, but I would think there's
going to be an opportunity to take on males if
she comes back strong next year, soby should be pretty excited.

(01:06:00):
And then just turn into this weekend. You're town red Smith.
They got that red Smith at Aqueduct. I do like
masterpiece making a title defense. He comes off a real
good third in the John Henry got another turf sprint
at Aqueduct. They haven't had a rain up there, so
they're turf. You know, they're full bore on it. Yeah,

(01:06:21):
they've had like no rain in New York. They could
have like started the Saratoga Meet on like October first
and run the entire meet on turf. That's been their weather.
And it's been like here, except they didn't get that
rain this week that we got even but they haven't
been close to being off the turf in New York
and in like six weeks and they're gonna run these

(01:06:44):
turf stakes today. I also want to mention before I
mentioned Churchill, they've got uh well, first off, let me
just throw in a little plug for brisnet brisnet dot com,
botz Dock Research Information Services. It's your for all handicapping information.
We have tip sheets analysis. I thought the workout reports

(01:07:06):
that we have available Andy Herrington's for California and Bruno
for around the country were great for the Raiders Cup,
but we have past performances, data files, free international pps,
and much much more. Go to bristnet dot com for
your handicapping information. And today at Woodbine, I just want

(01:07:30):
to mention Woodbine, there's they're meats winding down. They've got
a bunch of horses there that don't go south for
the winner. And uh so they their their their fields
are packed at this time of year.

Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
Oh gotcha.

Speaker 6 (01:07:42):
It's good to if you like playing, you know, competitive racist.
Take a look at Woodbine and they got three consecutive
great at stakes today, all on the capetta. All of
them got big fields. You got the grade three Maple Leaf,
the Grade three uh bezer Barian that there Averian and
uh and grade two Autumn. And I mentioned a horse

(01:08:06):
in the first one, the maple lead for a seven
number two Millie Girl is eight to one on the
morning line. I like her and Rage seven and Woodbine
number two. And then at Churchill today we got a
pair of states led by the river City Grade three
on turf. I give Shugman Gahees horse Battle of Normandy
the edge in there. Pretty good race though. Also the

(01:08:31):
other steak is the what Dreams Supreme for Phillies and Uh,
I like Mystic Pleasure. She's gonna be the favorite maybe,
but she's going really good for Rudolph for sex, so.

Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
Yeah pleasure, Okay, yeah, good Man number five, number.

Speaker 6 (01:08:50):
Five, So yeah, it's a little bit of a highlight,
you know. Brad Cox, I mean, gosh, he's won so
many maiden races, two year old maiden races loaded with.

Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
Two year olds.

Speaker 6 (01:09:02):
He had a not this time cold debut last Friday
called Disco Tom It's them for a long so he
went off favored. He won by like three plus lens
and he's got a Judgmont homebread in today's race five
at Churchill might be worth paying attention to. Final gambit, Uh,
he's by not this time, he's red hot, and the
dam was a winner on turf for multiple races on

(01:09:25):
turf and is a sister to a Group one winning
French horse announced, so really classy turf family. And like
I said, this not this time at Brad costa two
year olds on fire right now, So you may want
to pay attention to the five and race five today
and I mean we'll see if he's legitimate or not.

Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Wow. Let me ask you a couple of questions. One
what'd you think of City of Troy.

Speaker 6 (01:09:51):
Oh, I decided, you know, he wasn't ready for it.
You know, I think being drawn in post three didn't
help him because he sort of like wants to be
tactical Ford and when he broke like a step slow,
he was just done. He was like way back in
the field and he didn't like to kick back, and
he was pretty much kick Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
It's right.

Speaker 6 (01:10:08):
He had been forwardly placed in those races, but it
were real slow paced, long distance turf races, and he
needed to be able to work out a trip. And
to me, he needed to be way outside. And I
know that might have looked like it might have been
a negative form, but he needed to like the very
but I would have even if he had been drawn outside,
I don't think he would have been able to keep

(01:10:29):
up with the speed that was on in that race.
One thing I'll say was really interesting. I thought Arthur's
ride with flash of the front and I thought he
sort of tried, but Mixed Tow was quicker than him,
who was coming off a pace at wire to wire
went in the Pacific Classic. But Dermo satigatke. I don't
think anybody saw him flashing forward. He pushed it hard,

(01:10:51):
and he really pushed that mixed dow and uh they
went twenty two and change, forty four and change and
one eight and those are you know, you had fierceness
chasing now that pace and second and now at least
he wasn't going head to head, so he looked like
he was pretty comfortable doing it. But you got to
give him credit for running pretty big. I mean, I

(01:11:14):
thought the top of the stretch early on was gonna
win by five lents and he went by went to
a half. So I thought it was a pretty big
effort by the runner up. And I thought Forever Young
didn't get the best of it inside, and when they
finally got him outside, he immediately made up like five
lents on the top two. Would have been interesting to
see if he had been outside the whole race, because
I thought he ran really well too. Yeah, so all

(01:11:35):
three of them, yeah, all three. Yeah, he's only lost
now twice in the Derby and and the Breeders' Cup
Classic and he was Yeah, he was third in both.
Uh so he but the it was pretty good for
the Derby that the top three finishish in the Classic.
Role in the Kentucky Derby. In fact, they were the
top three built horses in the race. You know, Fiercens,

(01:11:57):
Sierra Leone and Forever Young the three big stars in
a sense coming into this year's Derby. Uh and and
they acquitted themselves really well, quitted the race really well.
It was a good race this year, and it's a
good group of horses, and it's pretty exciting to see
him all coming back. It's so good for horse race.

(01:12:18):
And you come out of those breeders' cups sometimes and
you got a whole bunch of horses retiring. And even
that full Serrana who looked good winning the dirt mile,
he's coming back to race next year straight no chaser
Luzy Gelding so the sprint winner, but he's gonna be
you know, he's he's doing great off of these back
to back wins, so he's gonna be a factor in

(01:12:39):
his division. And more than Looks and Johannes and even
Carl Spackler, the top three American horses in the mile,
they're all coming back, so gonna have some good uh.
That's something to look forward to next year in terms
of the horses coming back from the breeders Cup. I
thought it was a really good great Breeders Cup, and

(01:13:01):
I think del Mar did a great job. I thought
it was better than last year at Santa Anita. I
think it's better at del Mar at Santa Anita, even
though I love Santa Anita. And it'll be back there
at del Mar next year, and they have an announced
where it'll be in twenty twenty six, but let's hope
it's that Belmont or Keenlan are somewhere outside of California

(01:13:22):
at Churchill, Yeah, or Churchill. Churchill is definitely going to
be in the mix. You know, they're one of these.
I think, you know, Churchill may now want to host
the Breeders Cup two often, but every once in a while.
I think they definitely want to do it. And they've
had this Bob Bafford issue where he's been suspended and
they weren't going to let him come and train horses.

(01:13:43):
So it's all done. You know, Citizen Bull and Gaming,
who ran one two for Bafford and the Breeders Cup
Juvenile will both be aiming for Churchill downs.

Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
And you know, i'd look for Bafford maybe.

Speaker 6 (01:13:55):
Even to ship in a horse that's meet and run
them just to get it over with, you know, probably
come with the horse and shaddle him in the paddock. Yeah,
you know, and just be on the grounds and get
it over with. You know, why why make why make
your debut on Derby week? I mean, just go ahead
and get it over with. And he could run. I mean,
you know, we know he's got enough two year olds.

(01:14:17):
He they got these two year old stakes at the
end of the meet. He could ship one in for
one of those.

Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
Okay, did you get your Derby winner out of the
Breeders Cup for next year?

Speaker 6 (01:14:28):
No, I mean not yet. It's it would be way
too premature because, like I said, that pace was a
little bit false during that dude, that other horse not breaking.
I really like Citizen Bull moving forward. You know, he's
by indo mischief. He sorted a couple of Derby winners
and got a lot going for him. But you know,
I was a real big fan of Bill Mont's horse Sovereignty,

(01:14:50):
who won the streets since and there's still some horses
out there that may have just be maiden winners or
not even run yet. So I'm keeping in a pretty
open mind at this point.

Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
So now, do you think most of these sources will
ship to Florida for winter.

Speaker 6 (01:15:08):
No, I mean not, I mean a bunch of them perhaps,
but some of them will go to Fairgrounds and go
and oaklonn.

Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
Oh yeah, well that's what I mean. Ships south.

Speaker 6 (01:15:19):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean I don't you know.
They they might get some time off, but they'd probably
go to a farm down south or somewhere just the
time off, you know, good a few weeks like Thorpita,
and I would expect them to turn her out for
a few weeks and then they'll get her back out.

Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
I wish she'd turn her ound here.

Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
She stayed at Saratoga, didn't she did?

Speaker 6 (01:15:43):
She had her ass work there and then shipped in
on like Monday. Yeah, and she was a little rank
on her first appearance on the track, but then the
second day she really relaxed and was calm and looked
like herself.

Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
That's work they were talking. Did you read about that?
I think so she had all the work at Saratoga
and McPeek came back to the boy that was good,
and then the rider says that was great. I was

(01:16:15):
rooting for her. Goes Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:16:16):
I like Kenny, Yeah, yeah, he had been over thirty
seven in the Breeders' Cup. He'd had some seconds and thirds,
but yeah, it was I'm sure it was a big
relief to get her home and that's the big favorite
and get that monkey office.

Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
Back and went into Derby and the Oaks in one
year or so.

Speaker 4 (01:16:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 6 (01:16:35):
I mean, you know, yell only join like Ben Jones,
you know.

Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
Yeah, that's fun.

Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
Well, that's good, that's great.

Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
So what's coming up in the coming weeks much?

Speaker 6 (01:16:51):
Well, I mean, you know, we've still got fall racing.
Racing never stops, but you know, we're sort of gearing
up for the Thanksgiving Day. That's got some really big
stakes at del Mar and Churchill and Aqueduct used to
run their big weekend on Thanksgiving, but now they've actually
pushed it back to the first week the weekend after
that in early December, and that's when they'll run the

(01:17:12):
Cigar Miles Rent. Turfoy's got a lot of momentum and
the purses have gone up and the rain since gotten
a lot better there. So yeah, you have a lot
of horses that are Kentucky and elsewhere, I mean horses
from wood By and can go to turf Way and
just compete over the Winter's.

Speaker 1 (01:17:30):
Good to know that. I'm always kind of at a
lot of what's next.

Speaker 6 (01:17:35):
Yeah, and you know, you only good horses that were
at Prescott Downs and other circuits like that, they'll go
to Turfay. But you're gonna get a whole bunch of
horses from Cox and Asthmas and and Maker. Yeah, I
mean and and uh, you know you look at some
of the people. You get a lot of barn shipping
in Jonathan Thomas now based there and other trainers. They're

(01:17:59):
they're they're the purses are good and and there's been
you know, like Idiomatic she prepped it terrif away before
she became champion last year. So there's you can there's
will be some good horses running there.

Speaker 1 (01:18:10):
Now. Now, when did they do the voting for Horse
of the Year and then they award that somewhere around Christmas?
Is everything?

Speaker 6 (01:18:20):
They they uh, they that voting will will end like
around the you know, like January first or second. So
because they got those stakes a day after Christmas, so
they might send out the ballot the week before that.
Some people just grab it, fill it all in, but

(01:18:41):
they tell you on the ballot, hey there's still some
racing coming up, so if you want to wait, the
deadlines not till a week.

Speaker 4 (01:18:48):
After that or something.

Speaker 6 (01:18:50):
And then after that they announced the three finalists and uh,
and then they announced the winners in February around February.

Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
Are we finished with Belmont at the big A?

Speaker 6 (01:19:05):
Yeah, well it's it's it's aqueduct meeting now. Yeah, that's fine,
and they're still running there. But yeah, it's the aqueduct
at aquad Okay, good. Yeah, it's no longer b a Q,
it's just a qe A good aqu.

Speaker 1 (01:19:23):
Sorry, that's good. I got I don't know, tired of
looking at Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:19:28):
And then but it'll be back, don't worry. It'll be
back next the spring when they start the Belmont meet
in May or whatever, because they're gonna have to run
in at an aqueduct again. The Belmont is going to
be at Saratoga and then Belmont is and then they'll
probably have belmonted aqueduct in the fall and they're going
to open it in twenty twenty six. Who wow, it's

(01:19:52):
all in your construction right now.

Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
Yeah. Yeah. So did you enjoy your day?

Speaker 6 (01:19:58):
Yeah? I mean I had some. I didn't I was
a little upset with my betting strategy because really my strong,
my best opinions were in the second half of the card.
Like I had to get picks for all the races,
and you know, I picked Moira and straight no Chaser
on top, and I had full Serrano in the top
three and really liked him, and then Rebels Romance was

(01:20:19):
my second pick and I was using him prominently, So
I really the last four races, I was all over him.
But you know, I missed Sierra Leone and the Classic
and I had that soul of of an angel who
went off, you know, twenty to one, and I'd betterr
and hit that exact day with Society. But I had
some doubles and pick threes, and when I missed those,

(01:20:42):
I didn't have that ter sprint winner. It just I
backed off everything.

Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
You know.

Speaker 6 (01:20:47):
I really liked the East Avenue on Friday, and after
what happened when he stumbled out of the gate, I
bet more on the juvenile turf and I wanted to
and I was key in the outside horses and didn't
hit it, and so I was like a little bit
like I should have you know, I just I was,
you know, I mean it happened. Sometimes you get ahead
of yourself, and but you know, knowing I've been good

(01:21:09):
enough of these breeders' cups that you know I'm better
off just backing off and kidding them next time. But
I did leave some cash. I felt like I could
have hit some of those like last races better than
I did. I mean, I definitely bet straight no Chaser
and and but I didn't play Moira, even though I
picked there, I just didn't play the race. And then

(01:21:30):
I I had more than Looks and Johannes and the
exact because I was boxed in the Americans. I mean,
I was totally against the internationals. I didn't think they
were that strong. I thought European racing was way down
this year. And I was really bummed at the two
europe Rama two l and uh Diego Velasquez scratched because

(01:21:52):
I was taking them on and I was convinced one
of those three was gonna win and I so I
was playing. I was keen them all and I cashed
in the miles. I didn't have a bad day, but
I did lose money a little bit because I was
sort of like keying in on some multi race plays
that I missed.

Speaker 1 (01:22:12):
Yeah, how'd you do? Res?

Speaker 4 (01:22:13):
I had to go back to work, go back to work.

Speaker 2 (01:22:17):
Yeah, I have to go back to work.

Speaker 6 (01:22:20):
Yeah me and men.

Speaker 1 (01:22:25):
Well thanks for coming in.

Speaker 6 (01:22:28):
Yeah yeah, thanks.

Speaker 4 (01:22:30):
Ah.

Speaker 6 (01:22:30):
It's fun talking racing, and y'all joy the rest of
your weekend. It's gonna be a nice day to day
before that rink comes in tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:22:37):
Yeah that's okay, we need it now. Is Churchill running
on Sunday? Yeah, Saturday and Sunday Day.

Speaker 6 (01:22:48):
Yeah, there's no more night rates, and so they're running
through Thanksgiving weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:22:52):
Okay, okay, I just I get it all confused. So
I'm glad to hear that because I enjoy watching it.

Speaker 6 (01:23:00):
Oh yeah, super super Yeah. They got a lot of
main races this, I mean, they got good maiden races
at this time. And like I said, I mean these
horses are more and more lightly raced every year in
the spring, so you gotta you definitely got to keep
an open mind that there could be a really good
horse just like running up. Yeah, any of these drafts

(01:23:22):
in a maiden race, so good.

Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
Well what are you doing rest weekend?

Speaker 6 (01:23:28):
I gotta work a little bit today, but I'm definitely
relaxing it was a real busy week last week. Yes, exactly,
all right, I'll take care of Always a pleasure. See
you next week hopefully, all right, yes, definitely.

Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
All right, go cap, Thanks James.

Speaker 1 (01:23:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
Well on covid Sevy. The great three Auto mistakes was
one by Watchtower three Old Philly from the first Club
by Demaish at three hundred and ten thousand dollars, a
graduate of Tino Je April t watched one of a
maiden specially Tampa Bay followed that with the scored golf
Stream and rental mile of one thirty four to one
to take the Grade three Autumn miss that was the

(01:24:06):
first starting the stakes race. She's one of five stakes
horses from the first crop by the marshe Leire. Besides Watchtower,
his Deseca has placed in group stakes in France, w
money Man, second in stakes and golf Stream, Blue Creek Stakes,
place at Belmont, at the Big A, and at Law
and the Illustrator was second and one hundred town Nuller,

(01:24:28):
Texas Mount. He was the leading first Cup Grass sire
last year. Now de marshe Leire won his first three starts,
including Greatest Stakes in New York. He's by Dubowie one
of the all time great sires in Europe. The winner
of the Great Saturday was Rebels Romance by Dubwowie and

(01:24:49):
that was Dubawi's fifth Breeders' Cup winner De Marsay Milires Damn.
He is by s Sadder as well, and she's a
half sister to two ch It's a fantastic and he
stands over Cleveland Farm for a five thousand stands of
nurses go sews at the five nine nine, eight, seven,
two three three. Oh take it a good website which

(01:25:09):
is Cleveranfarm dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
Alrighty, talk about another bunch of fine people in Bourbon
County and Tarice Hope Well Company, Hope Well Insurance Agency.
We've been with him well nor thirty something years, I
guess just about. Yeah. And just as police couldn't ask
for anything better.

Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
You'll have.

Speaker 4 (01:25:36):
Yeah, I know your bar barn.

Speaker 1 (01:25:40):
A tree that went into the house. They took care
all that good stuff. Yeah yeah, and I mean not
a bunch of fussing either. They just come out. Well
for the tree that went in the house. I just
sent him a picture and there it was that tree
smack up of games house.

Speaker 4 (01:25:59):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
Well, it was great, we got to fix, got it
taken care of, and there you are. So we've just
been more than satisfied. So what's interesting to me, and
I mention it every week, is they're an independent insurance agency.
They are not tied to some mega company that's worldwide

(01:26:21):
where you have to punch buttons when you call. All
you do is call them. Of course it's nine eighty
seven two three four seven. But they answer the phone,
they say Hope Well Company, and you say, hi, is
Ted there? You know, that's how they take care of you.
I mean, it's wonderful. So not only do they not

(01:26:44):
work for an insurance company to work for you, what
they've done is they've picked out a really select group
of financially sound, reputable companies, so they know that the
companies they've got they can depend on, and they shop

(01:27:05):
around in those companies to pick out what's best for you,
and they'll give you and no obligation review and comparison
of your present insurance. I mean, it's terrific. Hope Well Company,
it was, it's been business since nineteen fifty five. It's
a full service agency. So I'll give you the phone

(01:27:26):
number again. It's a local number nine eighty seven, which
is most of Paris nine eight seven two three four
seven two three four seven are better yet, Just stop
by the offices A twenty and Main Street walk in,
say hello. They're super nice people and they'll do a
great job for you.

Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
Wwtfam Georgetown Lex WTF Those available everywhere with the iHeartRadio
app now number one for podcasting.

Speaker 3 (01:27:58):
Now back horse tails with Ursua Ellis.

Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
They we're trying to see if we can get a
hold of doctor wall Ridges down in Mississippi state, but
haven't been able to get through to him yet. Oh okay,
I want if he's up here, he said, somebody coming
up this direction.

Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
It's that right, I don't remember.

Speaker 2 (01:28:19):
I know he Well, we've got plenty to do here,
so yeah, anyway, we got it. You got him, got it?
Oh good about the time you answered your damn phone?
Oh well, how are you doing?

Speaker 8 (01:28:44):
They're supposed to rein here. Hopefully it won't scare of
the horses so bad they run through the fence. That
we haven't had rain here in forever.

Speaker 1 (01:28:53):
That's funny.

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
They could get scared and run through the fence.

Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
We're getting rain today if noon at Tara too. The
same part we too.

Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
Yeah, but what's going on down.

Speaker 8 (01:29:07):
Well, No, we've been pretty calm. It's kind of the
usual stuff that And I don't know if I've talked
about this, but he may have been following some of
the stories young quarter horse racing out west. There's been
I think it's up to twenty five horses now that
have come up positive for equal infectious and emia virus,

(01:29:29):
the disease we test for with the Coggins test. And
at least they think you investigating that outbreak that it
was you know, unintentionally spread but spread by maybe using
the same syringe and needle between horses or oh yeah,

(01:29:50):
I guess potentially blood open and you know in those
horses or other than saying it was your unintentioned spread
by not the usual means, which will be big insect.
So they EA a virus equali affectious anemia virus. It's
in the same family as the AIDS virus, and you know,

(01:30:12):
the AIDS virus takes a long time to kind of
pop up and it takes a horse at least forty
five days to become positive on it. Coggin's death. But
the problem with that virus is you'll get no vaccine,
and that virus can insert itself into the DNA of
the bone marrow and things like that, and it'll just

(01:30:33):
all of a sudden mutate. And when it mutates, it's
like the horse has been exposed to a new strain
and so they don't have immunity about it. And then
they get sick again and they can spread the disease.
But most horses that are infected, they don't really show
any signs if they get sick initially, and then that
virus becomes a carrier or a solid asymptomatic carrier where

(01:30:55):
they're not showing signs. But anytime they get stressed or
you know, maybe a tree to steroid something of that
that affects their immune system, they can become symptomatic. It's
out New Mexico. I want to say, Arizona, Texas. One
of the horses died and then when they went. It's

(01:31:20):
what they'll do is when they get a positive. You know,
if you do a CAUGA set. I've had two come
up positive in my career. Is if you get a positive,
then you know the state That's office and the Department
Agriculture step in and all that. You know, they'll go
back where that horse came from and test all those

(01:31:40):
horses on that premise, you know, wherever the horse came from,
and then they may even go back from that to
try to trace where it came from. And I think
that's why they're you know, they at least on what
they released on this outbreak, is that they do think
it's some type of blood contamination. However it happened that's

(01:32:01):
cause this to occur, and yeah, there's no treatment for it.
And so if a horse comes up positive, the only
choices you have are to put the horse down, which
almost all the time it's what happens, or that you know,
they have to go to slaughter back why he had
horse slaughter. Or they can go into quarantine, which is
a really strict quarantine they got from what I remember

(01:32:24):
on it. You gotta have like house windows, screen on
the stalls and the horse has to be in all
the time and that sort of thing. Or they can
go to a government research facility because so they have
to have some positive horses to make their reagents to
build produce Coggan's tests or run the Cogan's test. So there,
you know, there's not any real great options for them

(01:32:47):
and you know it's a huge risk to other horses.
It's a you know, overall, at least the last numbers
I saw, those numbers always lag a few years, but
you know it's about a one in twenty thousand chance
that you know, any horse against Cogan's tests is going
to be positive. But you know, the it's a you know,

(01:33:09):
either fatal disease or a lifelong disease that the horse
becomes infected and they're huge danger to other horses.

Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
Wow, that's scary.

Speaker 8 (01:33:20):
Well it is, you know, because it's wanted too. You
think those horses are racing, so they were co mingled
with other horses. And you know, the way it's spread
in nature is it has to be a large insect.
So the only insects that spread it are going to
be horseflies and deer flies. And if you look at

(01:33:41):
their mouth parts, they're you know, they you know, when
you get bit by a horse flyer deer fly hurts
because their mouthparts are literally like scissors, and so you know,
they bite and it's painful. See my horse is going
to try to flick that fly off off of itself
and then and those flies they've studied how they feed
and they prefer to go back on that horse they
just did. You know, they're swishing the tail and all

(01:34:03):
they're gonna go to another horse. And they're big enough
they can carry enough blood to transmit enough virus to
affect another horse. So mosquitoes can't transmit it because you know,
they're small and their bite's not painful, so they're gonna
when they get a blood meal, they're gonna finish up
on whatever they start with because it's not painful, So
mosquitoes can't spread it. But it's it's a you know,

(01:34:25):
it's a scary virus. It's because it's able to you know,
insert itself in the body and you know, hide until
it changes and then it's just like they're exposed again.
So you know, Coggan's tests are important. I know we
kind of you don't really think about it because we're
so used to them, but you know, there is a
reason why it's important to get that yearly Coggan's test.

Speaker 1 (01:34:48):
Well, wow, it's right, carry all right, When are you
coming up?

Speaker 8 (01:34:56):
I hope, I hope, I hope maybe in about two weeks.
I've got I go off hospital duty of Monday.

Speaker 9 (01:35:05):
Dofter White's coming back on and I've got like eight
book chapters I have to write for a textbook, and
of course they're late, but I can and I can comble.
I started working on them already. If I could maybe
send a couple of those off and have them work
on those for a while, I can get away and

(01:35:26):
make it up there towards the end of not this week,
but next week maybe, because I'd really like to come
up and see everybody.

Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
Okay, group was posted and we were looking forward to
seeing you again.

Speaker 4 (01:35:42):

considered that it was the nation's third rank freshman, covering
Sire twenty three when marriage and fold to him sold
for an areas of one hundred and ninety one thousand.

(01:45:53):
Jakie's Warriorm compiled a brill in a racing career. He

And there's some new stands over there, a whole bunch
of them. But you know, for instance, the fourte is there,

(01:46:38):
in the Arabian line, Kings Barnes is there, and of
course there's always and you really need to look at Wacomo.
He's an leading sire these first copp of two year olds.
He's got I think thirty three two year old winners.
He leads the nation as a freshman styl list Becoma
b e k o m at part.

Speaker 4 (01:47:00):
They have the price for.

Speaker 2 (01:47:01):
Him, what he stands for, No, I don't. I don't
know what he's going to stand for it. He's got
I think four stakes for us too, terrific shore that's
I remember one week I was trying to write a
commercial farm for Spensury Farm, and I had to rewrite

(01:47:22):
it four times every time every time how many one
he wants out another one? Yeah? Well, anyway, why don't
you call Dales or Brian and Mark or Daniel over
at Spencery Farm eight five nine two nine four zero
zero three or zero. Don't forget there's uh the sale
out there, you know, from one to two three daily.
So go take a look at, take a look at

they'll just give him a call at eight five nine
two nine four zero thirty. Take a look at the
website which is Spencery Farm dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
Alrighty, talk about sally Vans down to the years, many
of the greatest runners ever to step on a racetrack
walk into a Sally Van to win the Derby and
Triple Crown Breeders Cup. So think about that the next
time you ship your horse. You know, I saw Justify

(01:48:14):
I get off a Sally Van one of the Triple
Crown races. And the deal is if they're good enough
for Justify, they're good enough forever whatever you got in
your barn. And that's the truth. It's it's really a
two prong thing. They have great drivers who are experienced horsemen. Okay,

(01:48:37):
that's part of it. And the other part is their
vans are wonderful, and you know what tells a lot.
They're as clean and neat and good looking as you
can get. They're proud of their they're they're proud of
their equipment. It's great. Folks at Sally Vans wouldn't have
it any other way. And that's why, for oh decades,

(01:49:01):
Sally Van's the safest way to the winter circle. Give
them a call. They're a local number two five five nine,
four oh six. And now listen to the website. It's
Sally horse Vans dot com. Sally horse Vans dot com.
Enjoy the ride.

Speaker 3 (01:49:21):
Now back to horse Tams with ursul Ellis.

Speaker 2 (01:49:25):
You know that it's good enough for Sally's. You know,
it's good enough for It's good enough for Joseph I,
it's good enough for Yeah. What was that song? Remember?
What's good for General Motors is good for the USA?

Speaker 1 (01:49:38):
Yeah? Well, I mean really, you know you're gonna run
some up at the river.

Speaker 2 (01:49:46):
Amazing, what musical is that? From?

Speaker 6 (01:49:49):
What that song?

Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
What's good for General feeling?

Speaker 1 (01:49:54):
It was the one about the hell Bolly?

Speaker 2 (01:49:57):
Yeah, I believe it was. He little Lebnar, Yeah, little Lebnar,
I believe I I believe that's right.

Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
Yeah. Now, you know, ninety percent of the people listened
to us have no idea what that was. That was
a funny play musical, oh I know.

Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
And not only that, there was another show on at
the same time on the radio called it Jot Them Down.
So if you run by the store it was supposed
to take place down at Arkansas, if you run by
the store on a roast caven and ironwork spikers, Nana

(01:50:34):
jrot him down that too. It was named after.

Speaker 1 (01:50:36):
Yeah, we have a video or two of the original
Jot Them Down. You know. I like the story you
tell about whoever it was sitting in there and somebody
pulled up for gas, the only one of the dollars
worth Well.

Speaker 2 (01:50:53):
If at least did you know gas was cheap at
that time, about fifteen dollars again, that was google what
he was sitting. He would sit back behind that warm
moon and stove one warm mornings too, and look around.
You know, somebody put them some gas out here, and
he said, he asked him how much you want? If

(01:51:14):
they said a gallon or something like that, you know,
you know, he'd tell them this, that's too my just
go on less and get it. It was getting up
for he wouldn't get up. His best one though, was
they were taking in what do you review? What the

(01:51:38):
products that they have? Well, you know, to whether the reorder.
Oh I can't come up with a term right now.

Speaker 1 (01:51:45):
But if he ran out of something? Yeah, but what
when you take inventory?

Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
Inventory? That's the word I kept wanting to think about laboratories. Anyway,
they were taking the inventory and right across this one,
Google said, hell, don't order that stuff said we can't
keep it in stock. Oh all right. Well we're here

(01:52:17):
at the Third Bird Center and had some nice winners
from here just recently in the Third Bird seven Adam
Mia had one that horseshoe in Annapolis.

Speaker 1 (01:52:32):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
Paula Lobo who saddles a whole lot of winners, he
had one in Churchill Down that was on the sixth.
The same day John Ennis saddle one up at Churchill
and that same day it was on the sixth. Paula
Lobo had another one, but this one was at the
Horseshoe in Annapolis. And then they see John Ennis had

(01:52:58):
a winner on the seventh and uh at Churchill Downs
and Cavro Karramory had one at Horseshoe in an Effis
on the seventh. So anyway, pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:53:13):
Other reasons, place to train, tracks always in great shape.
They'll get it ready for the rain.

Speaker 2 (01:53:19):
Other reason, winners you know them, Michael and Ewing and
Ray and Ands and Edward O Karamoy and and you
know these people have been settling a lot of races.
Good traitors out here.

Speaker 1 (01:53:35):
Good trainers at a good facility. That's that's had the
good horse.

Speaker 2 (01:53:41):
And there you are and it is a good facility.

Speaker 10 (01:53:44):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
Two ways about that.

Speaker 1 (01:53:45):
Yeah, it's like three prongs. You've got to have a
good horse, good trainer, good place to train, and.

Speaker 2 (01:53:51):
These tracks and that's really great tracks out there. They
know what they're doing.

Speaker 1 (01:53:56):
I sure do.

Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
That's of course. It's John Panographs and he manages this place,
you know. But he takes care of the tracks, not
only here, but he takes care of matic Keenan.

Speaker 1 (01:54:06):
Yes, he does.

Speaker 6 (01:54:08):
That's great.

Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
That's three. They got the grass track and the dirt
track and the training track out there. That's three tracks.
We've got uh two tracks here, a mile track and
a five ages a mile. Yeah, and then they've got
a grass gallop out here. That's beautiful.

Speaker 1 (01:54:27):
Yeah, that's great. And the fences are in great shape.
There's nothing, you know, yeah, scary about any of it.

Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
And those new barns over there are absolutely great.

Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
Are nice. Yeah, there's Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
I don't know what the situation is on stalls. It
might be hard, especially with Turfway coming up. Yeah, but
maybe maybe that might help some of these people might
move up to Turfway or South you know. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:55:00):
Yeah, it's it's a moving time if you're looking for stalts.

Speaker 2 (01:55:04):

call over there eighty five nine two nine three, eighteen
fifty three and talk to him about it. Yeah, good guy,
